How the Buyer Score Works
Penalizes recalls, owner complaints, injuries, and deaths reported to NHTSA. A year with zero recalls and few complaints scores near 100.
A vehicle that has already absorbed 4–6 years of depreciation sits in the value sweet spot — enough off original MSRP without excessive wear.
Combined 0–100 score. 75+ is a strong buy. 58–74 is good. Below 44 suggests poor reliability or poor value for the price.
