VIN Check Engine
Multi-source vehicle intelligence, AI-enhanced and continuously refined
What is VIN Check Engine?
VIN Check Engine is a free, no-registration-required vehicle intelligence platform. We go far beyond a basic VIN decoder — combining government safety data, auction records, AI analysis, and live web intelligence to give you the most complete picture of any vehicle's history.
How It Works
We decode your VIN against the NHTSA vPIC database and immediately retrieve safety recalls, owner complaints, and crash test ratings from official U.S. government APIs.
In the background, our proprietary scrapers search auction archives, public web databases, and specialized automotive sources to identify past sales records, salvage history, and any publicly available mentions of the vehicle.
Our AI layer analyzes the aggregated data to enrich the report — identifying patterns, flagging risk signals, summarizing auction history, and cross-referencing web mentions to surface insights that aren't visible from any single data source.
Every new lookup refines the data. We track each VIN across time so returning users see updated auction records, newly discovered web references, and improved AI analysis as our data grows.
Data Sources

An offline database containing historical vehicle sale details and transaction records
Transparency & Limitations
VIN Check Engine does not currently provide title history, odometer readings, or insurance claim records. Our auction data is sourced from publicly available sale listings — it may not capture every private transaction.
The AI Risk Score feature is currently in development and will be released in a future update. For a paid comprehensive report including title history and reported accidents, we recommend services like Carfax or AutoCheck as a complement to our intelligence.
Every feature on VIN Check Engine is free with no registration required. We believe vehicle history data should be accessible to everyone — whether you're buying a used car, running an auction report, or checking your own vehicle's public record.
