Critical Deferred Risk
Critical deferred failure risk — 5 safety-critical or high-cost components are past their service interval. Without immediate attention, repair costs will compound significantly.
No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~156,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
EST. OVERDUECriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 10 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Timing Chain Tensioner immediately — already past the 120,000 mi / 10 yr interval
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
EST. OVERDUECriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 8 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Water Pump immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 8 yr interval
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighDifferential / Transfer Case Fluid
Service interval: 4 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Differential / Transfer Case Fluid immediately — already past the 50,000 mi / 4 yr interval
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
EST. OVERDUEModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Service interval: 8 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Spark Plugs (iridium/platinum) immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 8 yr interval
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
EST. OVERDUEModerateFuel Injectors
Service interval: 10 yr · Vehicle age: 13 yr · Past due by age
Service Fuel Injectors immediately — already past the 120,000 mi / 10 yr interval
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

SummaryVolvo is recalling certain model year 2013 S80 and XC70 vehicles. A software error within the Central Electronic Module (CEM) will result in the "TPMS Service Required" message appearing after approximately 15 minutes of accumulated driving over 25 mph. The error will prevent the Tire Pressure Monitoring System from warning the driver that a tire needs air. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."
Read full details...
ConsequenceA malfunctioning TPMS cannot warn a driver that a tire is underinflated. Underinflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to a blowout and possible crash.

My drivers side door latch will no longer open from the inside or the outside. I have to climb across to the passenger side and go out the opposite door. I am reporting this because this vehicle is part of the volvo "P3" platform which includes the S60, and they had a huge recall to replace all the door latch mechanisms for this exact reason.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLVO S80. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIATOR ANTI-TAMPERING DEVICE WAS FAULTY, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED. THE READING INDICATED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE "ANTI-TAMPER SWITCH FOR RADIATOR." THE DEALER (VOLVO CARS ANNAPOLIS, 333 BUSCHS FRONTAGE RD, ANNAPOLIS, MD 21409, (410) 349-8800) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE SAME THING AS THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. *TT*JB

ODI #11139601ENGINE

ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON IN MY VOLVO. I WENT TO AN AUTO SHOP AND THE SCAN READ "FAULTY RADIATOR ANTI-TAMPER DEVICE." I THEN RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT VOLVO HAD A RECALL (TJ27910) THE 2013 S80 WAS EFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND MY CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY NOT ON THE RECALL LIST EVEN THOUGH I HAD THE SAME ISSUE. VOLVO WOULD NOT HONOR THE RECALL AND STATED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR RE-SCANNED AND THE SOFTWARE ISSUE WOULD BE RESET AT MY COST. ACCORDING TO VOLVO EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAS THE ISSUE AS THE SAME MODELS WITH THE RECALL SINCE MY VIN DOESN'T MATCH UP I AM LIABLE FOR THE COST. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, AND THE VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE THAT VOLVO MADE AN ERROR BY NOT INCLUDING MY CAR. I AM HOPING YOU CAN ASSIST IN ENCOURAGING VOLVO TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THANK YOU.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 VOLVO S80. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON DRIVING OVER UNLEVELLED GROUND, THE VEHICLE SWAYED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS WHERE VARIOUS REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED BUT A PERMANENT REPAIR WAS UNABLE TO BE PROVIDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ODI #10508326STRUCTURE2 INJURIES

THE CHROME FOIL DECORATION ON THE STEERING WHEEL TRIM IS DELAMINATING, CAUSING A SHARP EDGE WHERE THE FOIL HAS PULLED AWAY FROM THE PLASTIC SUBSTRATE. THIS IS HAPPENING AT THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, WHERE THE HANDS COME IN CONTACT WITH IT. IN THE COURSE OF DRIVING THE CAR AND TURNING THE WHEEL, THE SHARP EDGE HAS CUT MY HANDS AND THOSE OF MY WIFE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM AND THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND OUR VEHICLE IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. *TR
