VERIFYCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Typical interval: 120,000 mi / 10 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify timing chain tensioner service history with the seller
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
VERIFYCriticalWater Pump
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 8 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify water pump service history with the seller
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
VERIFYHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Typical interval: 60,000 mi / 5 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify transmission fluid / service service history with the seller
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
VERIFYHighCoolant Flush
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 5 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify coolant flush service history with the seller
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
VERIFYModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 8 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify spark plugs (iridium/platinum) service history with the seller
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
VERIFYModerateFuel Injectors
Typical interval: 120,000 mi / 10 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify fuel injectors service history with the seller
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the rear passenger-side wheel began to detach from the control arm, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Despite the failure, the contact was able to pull over to the highway shoulder. Upon inspection, the contact observed that the rear passenger-side tire was resting at a 45-degree angle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was discovered that the rear control arm was severely corroded. The mechanic then informed the contact that an unknown TSB was related to the failure, and the contact was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall or warranty coverage on the vehicle. The contact was provided a case number and was referred to the dealer, who determined that the entire rear subframe needed to be replaced. The dealer had given the contact's mechanic an estimate for the repair. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the mechanic's possession. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

ODI #11719446FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

There is a strong smell of gas on the driver side after I have been driving. Other innfinity QX80 owners reported online with the same model, that this is in fact a recall issue for this make and model, and year. However when i call Infinity, they say they cant find anything on my car. it is not?? however your website clearly lists it as a problem for this particular car?? what do i do next.

ODI #11676569POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, the vehicle lost power, the engine revved abnormally, and the transmission failed to shift as intended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

I have come to notice that when I put gas in my 2015 Infiniti (V8 engine vehicles only), QX80 vehicles. The fuel pressure sensors may not have been sufficiently tightened during production. As a result, the fuel pressure sensor may loosen with vehicle usage and cause a fuel leak.

ODI #11567144FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I have been noticing intermittent gasoline smell outside of vehicle. It has been smelling stronger and more often so I decided to inspect it for the second. I removed the carpet and fuel pump cover and discovered the fuel pump is leaking gas. Now I cannot drive vehicle due to gasoline leaking every time the ignition is on. It is a serious safety and fire hazard. I have not contacted the dealer because it is not under warranty.

ODI #11551999POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The most glaring safety issue caused by below is the SUV will try to move forward on its own while stopped and the brakes pressed that can potentially cause a fender bender. Infiniti/Nissan 5.6L engines have a history of failed or failing viscous cooling fan clutches. This goes back over a decade based on the TSG released by NISMO. When the viscous fan begins to fail, the most glaring symptom is that ECM will compensate by revving up the engine RPM...specially with the AC on. This can cause the RPM to go from around 500 to 1000 RPM during an RPM surge. The surge is enough to move the SUV forward at a stop unless the brake is firmly pressed. On hot weather days, this risk is frequent and significant at a top. This viscous fan issue also puts signficant load on the engine and causes significant power loss to the drive train. This issue does not cause any type of "check engine" light since it is strictly a mechanical failure of the mechanism containing the fluids in the viscous assembly.

ODI #11534561AIR BAGS

The airbag system in my recently purchased (4 months ago)QX80 Infiniti 2015 is malfunctioning/failed. It is available for inspection upon request. The warning light came on within 2 months of my purchase. I took it to the dealerships for repair, was told “this is unusual for this age car & mileage” stating it was the driver curtain airbag module which I paid a large amount to have replaced. When I received the car back, the warning light was no longer on. A month & a half later, the warning light returned. Took it back to the same dealership where I am now told that when it was repaired prior it was merely a guess as to the problem & that now a different part of the system needs replacing (airbag diag system) “in hopes of this being the issue” There is also an accompanying hefty price for this repair. But I was also told (at this juncture) that if this part replacement did not take care of the problem, the next step would be to replace the airbag wiring harness which would cost $7,500.00 (total for all these “repairs” would be above $12,500) If they believe they had repaired the problem with the first repair, why do they not start there? Is/was my driver’s side airbag system working after the first repair or not or was the warning system just reset? I’m concerned that if they only can “believe” they have fixed the problem, how can I be assured that the system IS REPAIRED & will work in case of an accident? Did the system actually “work” with the first repair only to stop working or then oddly another component stop working a month & a half later? I was not able to be assured that even if the harness (most expensive repair of the 3) is replaced that this would actually take care of the problem either. I was told this is the “next step” in the Infiniti step decision tree. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I have looked for recall info but have not found any recalls. I am wanting to know if this problem/issue has been reported before on this make/model/year vehicle. Thank you

ODI #11504438AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS

2015-2019 model year Nissan and Infiniti vehicles suffer from an on-board computer algorithm defect that can cause the side curtain airbag to spontaneously deploy.

ODI #11465106FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked at the residence, he attempted to start the vehicle and the vehicle failed to start. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact waited for a while before attempting to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with a defective fuel pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

ODI #11464589AIR BAGS

Airbag light started flashing continuously while driving home on an 8 hour road trip on the interstate. I brought the car to the dealership once returning home, and they stated that they found a code for the left hand curtain air bag module assembly. Then proceeded to tell me that the driver side curtain airbag module assembly needs to be replaced, and if the light continues to flash then the wire harness will need to be replaced as well. This is a serious safety issue. If my vehicle would have been in an accident my airbags may not have deployed. There may be a defect in the side curtain airbags with this vehicle. I know that there is a lawsuit in Utah due to nissan and infiniti vehicles made between the years 2015-2019 due to driver side curtain airbags spontaneously deploying while driving in a normal and safe manner. This leads me to believe that something is faulty concerning the side curtain airbags in these vehicles. My SUV was purchased new, and has always been serviced at the dealership. I have also never had an accident.

ODI #11444574ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I purchased a 2015 Infiniti QX80 on March 31, 2021. Since the purchase, I have only driven it approximately 6,000 miles and the check engine light has already come on. I took it to the dealership and they stated that both Catalytic Converters need to be replaced. This vehicle is only 6 years old; it should not need both Catalytic Converters replaced. Upon research, I discovered that there was a recall on 11/28/2014 for certain 2014-2015 Infiniti Q80 vehicles. My vehicle was not part of this recall, however, I know it should have been because I believe this is the reason for the Catalytic Converter failures on my car. FIRST I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT I LOVE MY VEHICLE, HOWEVER IT HAS AN ISSUE WITH STARTING THE ENGINE OCCASSIONALY. IN THE BEGINNING I WAS BLAMING IT ON THE BATTERY, I HAD THAT CHECKED SEVERAL TIME AND ALL SEEMED TO BE OK? AFTER SEVERAL TIMES OF THIS HAPPENING I DECIDED I WAS LOSING CONFIDENCE IN THE TESTING AND I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY. THAT SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR 10 MONTHS, WHEN IT STARTED AGAIN AND HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE. I HAD A FRIEND JUMP START ME AND I DROVE STAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND BATTERY FROM. IT WAS AGAIN TESTED AND NOTHING SHOWED? I LEFT IT OVER THE WEEKED AND IT WAS CHECKED AND TESTED AGAIN ON MONDAY I PICKED IT UP AFTER WORK AND THEY HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG, THEREFORE I TOOK IT HOME. THIS WAS JULY 27TH AND THIS PAST FRIDAY SEPT.20TH IT HAPPENED AGAIN? I HAD ANOTHER JUMP START DROVE HOME, AS THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT OPEN. WHEN I GOT TO MY HOUSE I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND TRIED TO START IT AND IT FIRED RIGHT BACK UP? I'M JUST HOPING THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT CAN GIVE ME A HINT AT WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY THOUGHTS. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHEN THE VECHICLE IS IN AN STATIONARY OFF POSITION.

AS SOON AS I RELEASE THE BRAKES THE RPM JUMPS TO 1100 RPM AND THE VEHICLE TAKES OFF ON IT'S ON. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THEY CAN'T HELP ME, MY FIRST EXPERIENCE I ALMOST REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THIS AN ISSUE THAT NEEDS ADDRESSED. NEXT DAY (ON A TRIP) THE AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AGAIN. RETURNED THE VECHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THREE DAYS AND WAS TOLD SOME PARTS WERE REPLACED. TWO DAYS LATER AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN. RETURNED TO THE DEALER (THIRD TIME) THEY COULD NOT FIND DETAIL OF FAULT EVEN THOUGH THE LIGHT WAS OBVIOUSLY FLASHING. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT INFINITY AND GET TECHNICAL HELP BUT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE. AFTER THREE DAYS I AGAIN CALLED AND THEY SAID THEY WERE STILL WAIYING FOR A CALL BACK BUT TO BRING THE VECHICLE IN. THIS WAS ON AUGUST 13 2015 IT IS NOW AUGUST 19 AND MY VECILE IS STILL AT THE SHOP.

I WAS A PASSENGER IN MY INFINITI QX80 GOING ABOUT 25 +/- . THERE WERE 3 BEEPS AND THE CAR SUDDENLY BREAKED ON ITS OWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I LOOKED UP TO FIND NOTHING IN FRONT OF US. THE DRIVER SAID THE CAR BREAKED SUDDENLY ON ITS OWN! HER FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDDLE AND WHEN SHE REACTED BY GOING FOR THE BREAK IT WAS ALREADY TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR THIS EMERGENCY COLLISION FEATURE TO GO OFF. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONE CLOSE ENOUGH BEHIND US TO REAREND US, ALTHOUGH I'M CERTAIN THE DRIVER WONDERED WHY WE SLAMMED ON OUR BREAKS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THANKFULLY WE HAD ALREADY GOT OFF OF I80 WHERE OUR SPEEDS RANGED UP TO 70 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY HAS THE CAR AND CLAIMS THEY CAN NOT FIND ANY ISSUES, I'M FEARFUL OF GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL AND TAKING ANY CHANCES OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN. THE GENERAL MANAGER ASKED IF IT WERE RAINING HARD WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED.....THIS MAKES ME EVEN LESS CONFIDENT IN THIS SAFETY FEATURE. THE OTHER SUGGESTION WAS AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD. IF THE FEB IS ET OFF BY RAIN OR A SMALL OBJECT IN THE ROAD THAT IS NOT VISIBLE TO THE EYE, THAT IS NOT A SAFETY FEATURE,
