I was driving along a 40 mile an hour road and there was a fork in the road and a car in the opposite lane waiting to turn onto that fork to the right and the car just slammed on the brakes and I was injured very badly. My neck back and hips are hurt very bad.

Sunroof exploded I was driving at high speed on a highway. sounded like a gun fired. glass must have flown back towards other cars. Noise was terrifying and I slowed to gain my composure before pulling to the side of the highway and calling the police. Car is currently at a local dealership. My initial thought was that something like a rock hit the sunroof, but on my own inspection it appears the explosion was outward. there is no evidence of something falling on it. no scratches on the inside roof cover which was closed at the time. No makes on the roof rack or scratches on the car roof. There was no warning of any kind from the vehicle that it might occur. after doing some research I discovered that there have been many cases of exploding sunroofs on Hyundai cars. Dealership is under the assumption that a rock hit the roof, but are not willing to give me a report of an examination into what might have caused it. They disregarded my conclusion that it exploded outward.

ODI #11740955VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCECRASH1 INJURY

On XXX, my vehicle unexpectedly activated its automatic braking system while driving, resulting in a rear-end collision. My infant daughter was in the vehicle at the time. While we were fortunate to avoid catastrophic injuries, the incident placed both of us in significant danger and could easily have resulted in a much more serious outcome. The other driver may also have sustained injuries as a result of the collision. The vehicle sustained approximately $20,000 in damage. Since the accident, I have learned of Hyundai’s recall involving this braking system. Given the circumstances, I am deeply concerned that the condition addressed by the recall contributed to the collision. What is particularly troubling is that this was not the first time I raised concerns regarding the vehicle’s braking behavior. On February 23, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., I spoke with my dealership, North Bay Hyundai in [XXX] regarding unexpected braking behavior that I was experiencing with the vehicle. My concerns were not escalated, and I was not advised that a potential safety issue might exist. Several months later, I was involved in a collision involving the same system that is now subject to recall. I am also deeply concerned by the manner in which this recall was communicated. I received only a text message regarding a defect involving a critical vehicle safety system. Given the potential consequences of unexpected braking events, I do not believe the seriousness of this issue was adequately conveyed to affected customers. ODI #11740688SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCECRASH

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection? The forward collision avoidance (FCA) system malfunctioned. The front camera system appears to have triggered unintended hard braking beyond normal driver input. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was safety put at risk? While approaching a vehicle in front of me, I was gradually slowing down and applying the brakes normally. Without warning, the vehicle suddenly applied significantly stronger braking than intended. This abrupt and excessive braking caused the vehicle behind me to collide with my car, creating a dangerous situation and increasing the risk of injury. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? UNKNOWN. The issue has not been reproduced since the accident, and it has not yet been confirmed by a dealer. However, the incident is consistent with Hyundai Recall NHTSA Campaign Number 26V316000, which describes unexpected and premature activation of the forward collision avoidance system. Has the vehicle been inspected? The vehicle has been inspected by insurance representatives following the accident. It has not yet been inspected by Hyundai or a dealership specifically for this recall-related issue. Were there any warning signs before the failure? There were no warning lights, alerts, or messages prior to the sudden braking event. The braking intervention occurred without advance notice. Additional description of incident: At the time of the incident, I was approaching a vehicle ahead and applying the brakes gradually under normal driving conditions. The vehicle then suddenly applied much stronger braking than expected, consistent with automatic emergency braking intervention. This abrupt deceleration caused the vehicle behind me to rear-end my car. This behavior matches the defect described in Hyundai Recall 26V316000, where the forward collision avoidance system may activate unexpectedly and apply excessive braking.

ODI #11740756POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

My vehicle has an ongoing safety‑critical defect involving the braking system, powertrain, and ADAS logic. I have not driven the vehicle since 04/27/2026; all diagnostic trouble codes were recorded while the vehicle was in the dealership’s possession. On 05/05/2026, the vehicle stored multiple DTCs, including C164286, P071300, P076800, U060FF1, U060F29, and U061386. On 05/13/2026, P071300, P076800, U060FF1, U060F29, and U061386 were recorded again, showing repeated powertrain, communication, and control‑system faults while the vehicle remained with the dealer. On 05/22/2026, two additional safety‑related DTCs (P107600 and C272146) were first recorded, and both were last reported again on 05/27/2026, still while the vehicle was in dealer custody. These DTCs now show as Historical because the vehicle has not been operated since the last fault was recorded. Their Historical status only means the system has not run a new check — it does not mean the defect is repaired. The vehicle has also exhibited brake‑logic abnormalities, including a persistent Brake‑ON signal at highway speeds, which violates Brake‑Throttle Override safety logic and affects ADAS functions. The powertrain shows signs of torque converter instability, mechanical drag, abnormal slip, and heat buildup documented across these dates. Two OTA updates were performed during periods of instability, but neither corrected the defect. The dealership has not provided documentation confirming the safety issues were resolved. Because the braking logic, powertrain behavior, and repeated DTC activity remain unexplained and unresolved, I do not believe the vehicle is safe to operate.

MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD, INCLUDING SRS , TCS, ABS , ALL LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. SYSTEMS DON'T WORK, SUCH AS LANE DEPARTURE, COLLISION AVOIDANCE & ABS DON'T WORK. SPOKE W/ KOEPPEL HYUNDAI, MENTIONED THE ISSUE, BUT WAS TOLD THAT THAT ISN'T PART OF THE RECALL, THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT ADRESS THE ISSUE. IT'S FRUSTRATING , DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION IF ANY ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN DUE TO AN ISSUE THAT THE DEALER IS REFUSING THE ADRESS.

ODI #11740310VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Doesn't slow down properly when I step off from gas pedal and try to stop at traffic light/stop signs and before making turns. It barely reduces average 2 mph for whole block. Lets say when I step off from the gas pedal at 25 mph, the car reduce the speed to about 23 mph when it's so close to light/stop signs and right before making turns. It seems like there is no 1st gear, just 2nd gear is the lowest. Always I have to brake harsh before light/stop sign/ making turns. I've been driving for 45 years in NYC but I can't get used to this dangerously weird driving situation while driving the 2025 Hyundai Tucson. I have driven the 2023 Hyundai Tuscon before as well but I have not had this issue until now with the 2025 model.

ODI #11740016FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCECRASH

ODI #11740034FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

During the winter, my car would activate the forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking while I was driving when there were no other vehicles in front of me or even around me. It happened several times over a few day timespan, at the time I thought it was because I had gotten a car wash when it was colder weather and maybe the water had affected the system but now I see that there is a recall for this same issue.

ODI #11739938STRUCTURE

The underbody shield is held up partially by plastic nuts that get loose casing the shield to rattle at speed over 60mpg. I read multiple reports from other owners on reddit. Tightening these plastic nuts help ressolve the rattle temporarly, but the nuts are flimsy and keep spinning. You can't really tighten them well. A good remedy from Hyundai would be to replace these flimsy plastic nuts with metal ones that stay tightened and secure the underbody shield in place. Dealer wasn't helpful and wanted to charge $200 just to look at it

ODI #11739761SEAT BELTS

The rear seat belt is stuck. The vehicle was only 3 months old when it was noticed. Originally, I thought the constant beeping about the rear seat belts was due to this error, but it is 2 separate issues.

ODI #11739615EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Before I owned this car, I used to get so frustrated whenever I was driving behind this type of vehicle because the rear blinkers are mounted so incredibly low in the bottom bumper that you can't see what the driver is doing. Now that I actually own a Hyundai Tucson, I feel completely responsible for the drivers behind me. Because I know how low my blinkers and reverse lights are, I have to turn them on way before I actually turn, and I'm always worried someone will hit me when I'm in reverse. On top of that, my friends who drive behind me constantly tell me how bad it is and how hard it is to see my signals because of how low they sit.

ODI #11739244FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The forward collision automatic braking happens randomly and for no reason causing immediate and complete stops in the middle of traffic. It whips the head forward as if a crash had occurred and causes drivers to the rear to have to suddenly brake to avoid collision. Ive had it occur multiple times since purchase with the most recent being this morning in the middle of a roundabout. I know I can disable the system but 1) that's also a safety risk and 2) it turns back on every time I start the car which is unacceptable. Ive asked the dealership about it and was told that it cannot be disabled. I already have the sensitivity turned down as much as possible and it still is happening. This issue makes an otherwise wonderful vehicle almost uunrivaled. When this happens there's no warning before the sudden braking. It also will randomly just slow speed down for no reason and with no way for the driver to stop it. Something needs to be done. Fix the system and make available a way to disable it without it auto turning back on. Im fed up.

ODI #11739419LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Forward collision assist is dangerous. It engages when not necessary and has almost caused several wrecks by slamming on the brakes. There needs to be a way to permanently disable and not have to pick through a series of menus every time. Also, lately I feel like I’m fighting the lane keep assist when I’m on the highway, and it tries to move when not necessary.

3 incidents of same braking component. Once while exiting a parking lot, the car slams breaks so hard while accelerating that car slams to hard stop with no warning. Once while driving through an intersection brakes engaged for no reason. Once after stopping at Red light, then when moving with traffic, car stops so hard with no warning that we were almost rear ended and seat belt left marks and bottom of car seemed to hit the ground. These violent automatic breaking events are scary because for no reason or cause and no warning the car suddenly hard brakes. Fear of being rear ended or car flipping from such sudden and hard breaking. This incident has not been inspected although the car is current on all maintenance and has been recently in to car dealer for oil change.

ODI #11738371ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

On 5/14/2026, while driving southbound on I-95 with my pregnant wife and young daughter, my 2025 Hyundai Tucson (approx. 7,500 miles, purchased new 10/2025) experienced multiple critical safety failures. Two days prior, the heads-up display (HUD) intermittently failed to activate. On 5/14, traveling at 65-70 mph near [XXX] , the brakes auto-applied without driver input. Simultaneously, the instrument cluster and HUD went completely black, eliminating all speed and vehicle status information. This recurred intermittently. Near [XXX] , the brakes auto-applied with full force, locking all four tires and bringing the vehicle from approx. 70 mph to a complete stop on the active interstate. Two trailing vehicles spun out and left the travel lane to avoid rear-ending us. A multi-car pileup was narrowly avoided. The vehicle was taken to Pearson Hyundai in Midlothian, VA. They diagnosed and replaced a faulty wiring harness. Immediately after the repair, driving northbound on I-95 back to [XXX] (5/16), the lane keep assist/lane departure system began pulling the steering wheel into the adjacent lane without driver input, repeatedly and unpredictably at highway speed. The dealer repair did not resolve the all defects. Within a three days this vehicle exhibited: (1) total instrument cluster/HUD failure, (2) uncommanded emergency braking at 70 mph causing two other vehicles to take evasive action (3) uncommanded steering input into an adjacent lane. These failures created immediate risk of serious injury or death. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There have been two instances now within about 4 months where my 2025 Hyundai Tucson's emergency braking/anti forward collision system has engaged completely unnecessarily, slamming on my brakes and almost causing the car behind me to hit me. In both cases there wasn't a car in front of me within at least 100 feet. In both cases I was going probably 30-40 miles per hour.

ODI #11736725FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The FCA engages in situations that are not dangerous. There is a slamming of the breaks which causes items in the car to fly off the seat and nearly cause the cars behind me to rear end the car. This is a dangerous situation and has happened about 6 times since we purchased the car less than six months ago. There is not a way to permanently disable this supposed safety feature.

ODI #11736762FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE1 INJURY

The forward emergency braking system on this vehicle is a hazard not a safety feature. I have almost been rear ended 3 times because of it and have had my neck and back hurt from the quick sudden stop! I was not even at risk of getting into an accident! Vehicle is 2025 Hyundai Tuscon purchased 12/31/2025. On April 18th, as I was backing into my garage i noticed that I could not see through the right side end window. On closer look I noticed that the glass was shattered without any spots of particle hit or point of impact. I stopped and took pictures, took the vehicle to Potamkin Hyundai and the service guy also took pictures. I went back on April 21 to see the service manager who also took pictures and advised me to give them some time to review. After about 1 week, I got the message that the request for replacement under Manufacturer Warranty had been declined and that I would have to replace this on my own.

ODI #11736385SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Automatic braking system brakes for no reason when I am not near any cars traveling at high speed or even when I am already at a complete stop or moving very slowly but not anywhere near hitting the car in front of me. This has happened multiple times since I leased this car in July 2025 and it seems to be getting worse. I had a 45 min drive home today and it happened about 7 times all for no reason. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It slams on the brakes unnecessarily and the cars behind me almost rear end me. This has happened on residential roads and highways. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I just called to take it in. They seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? not yet but I am taking it in asap Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NONE

The cars speedometer screen and radio screen go black and sometimes flicker on and off. This makes it impossible to see the speed. Also the car stalls sometimes when this happens in traffic. The autonomous braking applies the brakes even when there is a large distance from other cars and objects to the point where it has almost caused me to get into an accident on numerous occasions. The driver attention alert comes on and off over and over again even though I’m fully focused on driving and well aware of what is going on and this sometimes happens in a sequence where all of the warning lights illuminate on dash. Sometimes all of the warning lights display on cluster after it goes black and then car says to shift to park when display goes back on causing safety concerns for me in traffic. In addition my sunroof glass is making a loud noise like it’s going to crack.

I was on the freeway about 2 minutes and the car flashed a red warning then slammed on the brakes and I flew forward. No cruise control and no buttons hit or anything automatic. Another time,  I was merging to freeway on ramp (with 2 lanes merging and going to freeway). I was on the left right lane towards the on ramp and another car came speeding next to me on other the on ramp right lane. All of a sudden, my Tucson says emergency braking for about 1 to 3 seconds. slamps the brakes. I am not sure if the other speeding car made a sensor think I was going to merge into him,or him into me, or the sensors didn't detect the lane markings. It's my daily route to this ramp and it has not occurred in the past. These emergency braking incident has happened several times (4-5 times in a month) to me, usually during a highway drive similar to those above. I have to turn off the forward collsion to stop this happening and it comes back on everytime when the car starts from a off.

ODI #11734841SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

On at least three occasions, the forward collision system incorrectly determined there was an imminent collision when a car or truck was simply coming over into my lane. The Tucscon locked the brakes, bringing the car to a full stop in the middle of high-traffic roads even while the car in front was pulling away. I was unable to give the car gas to continue driving forward. On two occasions this was on an interstate, going from almost 70 mph to stop when there was no car or obstacle in front of the car. It created a very dangerous risk of being rear-ended. The car did display the message "Collision Warning" on the instrument panel, emit an audible alarm, and shook the steering wheel.

Had an issue with driver assist radar when in complete control. Until you’re not! Brakes lock up skidding tires and causing seat belts to lock up. It happens so suddenly it scares you to the point of heart attack. This has happened: merely backing out of driveway, when accelerating in your lane with car in turn lane beside you turning right. And most recently on FL Turnpike while in stopped/slowed traffic due to emergency vehicles trying to get to scene of Naples wildfire. When I accelerated as traffic resumed at slow speed the car locks up brakes, squalling tires and slewing sideways. It startled me so much my heart was racing and I didn’t know if the car was still running or not. There was an 18 wheeler coming up behind and I was frozen not knowing what to do next. I don’t know if sensitivity can be adjusted or what it needs but my heart can’t take many more of these incidents. I will report to dealer as well. I know there is a Reddit thread about these same issues that my daughter found on researching this issue.

I have about 13,500 miles on my 2025 Tucson Hyundai. The screen with the speedometer and HUD constantly turns on and off so you have no idea what speed you're going, if you need fuel and several other readings. It has been repaired once. Took it back to the dealer a second time, they said there was no issue. It is still doing it, and I am making an appointment to return it to the dealer again for service. I drive on a very busy interstate daily to and from work. I feel this is a safety issue. I googled the problem and many accounts of this happening to other owners can be found with the same issue. I think Hyundai needs to issue a recall and make sure their engineering department finds the source of this and corrects the problem before someone is in an accident or just stranded on some highway.

The display on the dashboard that includes the speedometer and other information goes completely blank. So does the heads-up display on the windshield. This could occur at the same time or individually. It may last only a few seconds or for several minutes. This has happened since I bought the car about 1.5 years ago. I've had it to the dealership and they have noted the problem but have not been able to fix it. I know that Genesis, which is part of Hyundai has had recalls about this problem, but so far Hyundai has not. Since it involves a loss of the speedometer, I think that it is a safety problem and should be addressed. It happens almost every time that I drive the car.

I forgot to mention that with my two accidents while slowing down for traffic or a turn, that phantom braking happens almost every day now (it happened about 7 times in 4 minutes while I was on the highway, that's not exageration) Curves on the highway with a car diagonal to you in the center lane while you're passing, weird light reflection, falling snow, dust in a construction zone, anything. I can't drive with it on as it alerts to nothing. It's very scary to drive with it on, so now I have a useless safety feature that is really more like a death trap in the right circumstances, which will come.... Someone will be doing 70 on the highway, and their Hyundai Tucson will slam it's brakes on full tilt and it will cause injury and/or death. It's only a matter of time.

After the oncoming traffic had cleared, I proceeded to make a left turn onto [XXX] . My Hyundai Tucson slammed on the brakes just as I entered the oncoming lane. The FCA was OFF. I was able to hit the gas and start moving forward again before any oncoming traffic got to this intersetion. There was no warning before the brakes were applied. Note, the FCA safety function was absolutely positively turned off. We have gotten into the habit of turning it off to avoid these unintended, unexpected sudden complete stops. Now I'm concerned the FCA system has more problems than just being overly senstive or malfunctioning causing numerous sudden braking issues. Just after I drove my entire car to the left of the parked car, my Hyundai Tucson slammed on the breaks. There were no cars coming toward me in the oncoming through-lane. There were no cars in front of me or coming toward me in the perpendicular through-lane. The FCA was OFF. On two occasions, the automatic emergency braking system engaged potentially causing an accident. The first occurred at an intersection where I was attempting to turn left from a stop. The system would not allow me to proceed until the bus attempting an opposite left turn left the intersection. The weather was clear and sunny. The second occurred while on a freeway onramp. There were no vehicles in front or to my side. The AEB detected a phantom threat and immediately braked to a stop. The car behind me was barely able to avoid rear ending my vehicle. My passenger was a witness to this jarring event. The weather was clear and sunny. Both incidents occurred with an odometer reading of <3500 miles. My local Hyundai dealer has attempted to recreate the phantom breaking, but were not able to recreate the circumstances and therefore not know what system required repair/replacement. Subject: 2025 Hyundai Tucson - Persistent Phantom Braking Issue I am reporting a severe safety defect regarding the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system on my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced five separate "Phantom Braking" incidents where the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) engaged abruptly without any obstacles in the path. In the most recent incident, the vehicle suddenly braked from 30 mph to 20 mph] while driving on a highway. There were no cars or objects in front of me. This unpredictable behavior is extremely dangerous as it almost caused a rear-end collision with trailing vehicles. I believe this is a systemic software or sensor defect that misinterprets shadows or road signs as hazards. I request a formal investigation into this safety risk.

My wife was driving our Hyundai Tucson on the city street at about 35 mph. She signaled left to get into a turning lane. The turning lane has two lanes and is very long. She got into the turning lane and the traffic in front of her stopped. The car's collision avoidance system activated and slammed on the brakes even though the vehicle was not very close to the cars in front of her. As a result, a vehicle behind her rear ended her causing over $9,000 in damage. This car has done this before on the highway and city street. The collision sensitivity setting was on normal and had been since we got the car and until the accident. I had also been driving the car when the collision avoidance activated. The problem with this car is that it only knows to slam on the brakes and results in getting rear ended. It does not gradually apply the brakes even when the car in front is not very close and locking up the brakes is not necessary and is actually unsafe as shown when my wife was in a rear collision accident. This is a major safety problem and needs to be looked into.

I was driving on the highway in heavy traffic going about 65 mph. An unusual symbol appeared on the dash in red that I don't know what It was or what it meant but I thought it must be something serious. Then a warning came up saying for me to take a break. Then a different warning came up saying that I should take control of the car immediately, it was about to brake. The car immediately began to brake. Fortunately I was in the right hand lane of the three-lane highway and I was able to pull into the breakdown lane. I can't even imagine what would have happened if I was in the middle or far left lane. I was not unobservant and both of my hands were on the steering wheel when this happened. Once the vehicle stopped, the symbol on the dash disappeared and the brakes released. I was able to resume driving. Although there was no accident, injury or fire, and no police report needed, this does not discount the seriousness of this event. This could have been life-threatening if I had been in a different lane or had panicked, causing a multi car pileup in the heavy traffic. Serious enough that I feel the need to get rid of this car.

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (Automatic Emergency Braking) system is set to “Late,” yet the vehicle still applies braking unnecessarily. This behavior did not occur previously and has started happening repeatedly within the past four days. Subject: Safety Concern – Excessive Automatic Braking (2025 Hyundai Tucson) I am reporting a safety concern regarding the automatic braking system (Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist) in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle frequently applies sudden and aggressive braking in situations where there is no immediate collision risk. This occurs during normal driving and low-speed parking scenarios, including when passing nearby objects, backing out of parking spaces, or maneuvering in tight areas. The braking is abrupt enough to create a potential safety hazard, including: - Risk of being rear-ended due to unexpected deceleration - Disruption of normal traffic flow - Reduced driver confidence and control This behavior appears overly sensitive and does not align with actual collision risk in many cases. I have attempted to adjust the system settings (including warning timing), but the issue persists. Additionally, the system resets upon restarting the vehicle, preventing a consistent mitigation of the problem. I am requesting: - A review of this system behavior as a potential safety defect - A software update or calibration option to reduce braking aggressiveness - The ability to permanently adjust or disable this feature Please advise on next steps and whether this issue is known or under review. Automatic braking engages when there is no actual hazard present and brings vehicle to a full stop. This causes a serious whiplash hazard to me and my passengers as our heads are thrown forward unnecessarily. It also significantly increases the risk of being rear ended by the vehicle behind me. This has happened on several occasions. Today it occurred because the car hit a small bump in the road while doing less than 10 mph. This issue occurred last month as well but dealership claims no DTCs were found. I am noticing that the forward collision warning comes on without any cars or objects in front periodically since the purchase of my car. The light will remain on for a few seconds and disappear. The automatic brake system seems to be causing issues as well which I believe causes the car to shut off completely mid-drive. Once the car shuts off the panel lights turn on to include the engine light, but then after a few seconds I able to change gears back to park in order to turn car back on and continue driving. This has happened now several times since last month. However, I have had issues with my brand new vehicle since I purchased it last year. My car remained in the dealership for 3 months last year due to an engine, ac and power train issues. Since taking possession of the vehicle, I have experienced two incidents involving the automatic emergency braking system activating unexpectedly, despite no obstacle or hazard being present. During one of these incidents, the vehicle braked abruptly and forcefully enough to cause an injury to my wrist. On March 7, 2026, I brought the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, where it was confirmed that there is an issue with the front right camera, which appears to be affecting the forward collision and automatic braking system. In addition, the vehicle required premature brake pad replacement due to persistent squeaking. Experiencing brake component issues on a brand-new vehicle raises further concerns about the integrity and reliability of the braking system. Brakes are a critical safety component, and premature wear or abnormal behavior so early in the vehicle’s life undermines confidence in the system designed to protect drivers and surrounding traffic. There were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms prior to the failure. The first instance occurred within 30-days of taking possession of the vehicle. The second two months later.

I was never at risk of hitting the wall. The breaks were applied after I was into the right hand turn. Most unusual, as I had the FCA (Forward Collision Avoidance) system turned OFF and I confirmed this by observing the symbol on my dashboard that indicated the FCA was off as soon as the breaks were applied. Had the vehicle behind me not been able to stop in time, there would have been an accident, and because the brakes were locked by the computer, I could not have done anything to prevent it. After the second incident (on 2-15-2026), I looked through the vehicle setup information and found it is possible to disable the "forward safety" feature to prevent additional incidents, however, that setting can only be changed then the vehicle is stationary, and it automatically turns back on every time you start the vehicle.

The brake assist feature engaged when a second car cut a corner in front of me in Peoria AZ. The brakes engaged, and while waiting for the auto brake to release, a third care came up very fast behind me. I hit the gas in fear of being rear-ended. Apparently, in fear I simultaneously pulled on the steering column and the steering column pulled out beyond its normal range. The telescoping adjustment feature no longer works. The steering wheel is locked in a downward and elongated position. I took it to the local AZ Hyundai dealer for warranty repair and they said it was due to the Kirkland Hyundai dealerships failure to install a pin that locks the steering column in place after installing a lo-jack system. The column is not covered by warranty. There were no warning signs except the dangerous auto braking system, that caused a series of failures in the vehicle. This is the 4th time this braking system has almost caused a rear-end crash. The AZ Larry Miller Hyundai dealership suggested I contact the Kirkland Hyundai dealership in WA for damages. Damages to replace the steering column and replace the missing pin lock are nearly 3000.00 There are no pictures as the steering column has been reassembled but is bent and needs to be replaced.

The automatic braking that happens when the car sensor thinks you are too close to another car is dangerous. This has happened to me three different times when there were cars in front of me turning right. There was plenty of room and the car was turning so I was following, and it not only slams on the brake and makes you stop, but then it takes it a minute to reset before you can move again which then can slow traffic. I was almost rear ended two of these times. It is unsafe. You can manually turn it off, but you have to re set it every time you get in the car. I have seen many complaints about this occurring and causing people whiplash as well due to the sudden stopping on Hyundai sites.

The horn on my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited failed without warning in mid January 2026 and no longer functions. This creates a serious safety risk because I was unable to warn another driver while they were merging into my lane on the highway. Without a functioning horn, I cannot alert other drivers to avoid potential collisions. The vehicle was inspected by Balise Hyundai in Springfield, MA, on January 23, 2026, and the dealership confirmed the horn requires replacement. However, they cannot cannot order the replacement part because it is unavailable, possibly due to a redesign or manufacturer change. Hyundai Consumer Affairs has acknowledged the defect and confirmed there is no timeline for repair. NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Report I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect involving the rear seatbelt in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited. The vehicle currently has approximately 6,000 miles, and this issue has created an extremely dangerous situation for passengers. While traveling out of town, the rear passenger seatbelt suddenly jammed and would not retract or release properly. The belt became completely stuck and unusable. Three adults attempted to safely unjam the seatbelt, but it would not retract or function as designed. Because the restraint system failed, the rear seating position became unsafe and unusable. We were forced to arrange alternate transportation for our passenger because it was not safe or legal for them to ride without a functioning seatbelt. This failure represents a major safety concern. A seatbelt is a critical safety component that should never lock up or become permanently jammed under normal use, especially on a nearly new vehicle with very low mileage. The inability to secure a passenger created a hazardous situation and could have resulted in serious injury if an accident had occurred. I am contacting Hyundai Customer Affairs today to formally report this safety issue. I will also be taking the vehicle to the dealership for inspection and repair, as I do not feel it is safe to drive the vehicle until the defective seatbelt is properly repaired and confirmed safe. Given that seatbelt failures directly impact occupant safety, I believe this issue requires immediate investigation. A restraint system that becomes stuck and cannot be used is unacceptable and poses a significant risk to drivers and passengers. I am requesting that NHTSA review this defect, investigate potential manufacturing or design problems, and determine whether other vehicles may be affected.

ODI #11714678SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The forward collision avoidance system in this generation of Hyundai tucsons is dangerously flawed. We previously had a 2020 and no issues, but this one slams the brakes at the drop of a hat and has nearly caused several accidents as there is no good reason for the intervention (ample space to leading vehicle) and it brakes so hard that cars behind typically need to veer to avoid rear end collision. This is not a one-off event or linked to particular driver/driving style - both adult owners of this vehicle have experienced this on multiple unrelated occasions. All sensitivity setting have been set to minimum and the only way to drive with peace of mind is to completely disable the system - but here is where the next massive design flaw is: the system automatically reenables at each re-ignition; there is not permanent override, which is EXTREMELY dangerous. It is not practical to manually disable the system on each drive because you need to navigate multiple system menus to adjust the setting. Google and user forums confirm this collision avoidance system is a widely experienced and complained about safety issue for Hyundai and it should be investigated. People will likely get killed due to this “safety feature”. Ideally Hyundai should push a recalibration for those who want this feature AND enable a permanent override option in the system settings for those who don’t.

During normal winter operation with the heater in use, the center console area becomes excessively hot. I have measured surface temperatures exceeding approximately 130°F using an infrared thermometer. The affected area includes interior touch surfaces, cup holders, and a factory-installed wireless phone charging pad. The heat appears to originate from HVAC ducting routed through the center console to supply the rear seat vents. Closing the rear vents does not reduce the console temperature, indicating heat transfer through the ducting rather than airflow. The condition is most severe after a warm-soak cycle (driving to operating temperature, briefly parking, then driving again). When a phone is placed in the intended storage or wireless charging area, the device overheats and triggers thermal protection warnings. The console surfaces also become hot enough to present a potential burn risk with prolonged skin contact. These temperatures exceed recommended ambient conditions for consumer electronics and lithium-ion batteries in a normal-use interior storage and charging location. The issue was reported to a Hyundai dealership. The service department stated the heat was caused by the rear HVAC duct and considered the condition “normal.” No repair, insulation review, or corrective action was offered, and no specific temperature measurements were provided in writing. Hyundai Consumer Affairs directed me to return to the same service department, despite the concern remaining unresolved. This condition occurs during normal vehicle operation and represents a potential interior thermal safety concern.

Hard braking first occurred on a major highway with no prior notice that this would happen in close call accidents. The cars traffic had to veer away from me in order to avoid hitting me. Another highway (95) incident was a 18 wheel semi that had to move to the shoulder and could have easily totaled my car and me. I then researched this and found I could delay the action be setting the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist mode to "Late". This helped in giving notice for some time, however the hard braking occurred again on a regular two lane small highway as I switched lanes, saw a car stopping suddenly and the brakes locked up. (This is the latest incident as dated below). There was no "Late" warning, the brakes just locked up. Being in fear of my and my families life I did further research and found that I could disable "brake assist" and only get warnings - which is what should be the default - BUT, this must be done each time I start the car. If my wife drives and forgets to do this each time I now fear for her life!!! This is not a simple matter. It is unconscionable and horrible this type of control over basic transportation is allowed to exist. This must be addressed and corrected! Issue Type: Intermittent Electronic System Failure / Critical Safety Hazard Description of Incident: A severe safety-related incident occurred while driving at night on 12/29/2025, at approximately 5:48 pm. Under fully dark winter conditions in MA, while the vehicle was in motion with the headlights set to AUTO, the following events occurred: Total System Blackout: All interior and exterior lighting systems suddenly failed simultaneously, including the digital instrument cluster, infotainment display, and backlighting for all illuminated buttons and controls. The complete failure of exterior lighting and interior displays resulted in an immediate loss of forward visibility and access to critical driving information. Duration: The blackout lasted approximately two seconds before the system appeared to reboot. Recurrence: Approximately ten seconds after the first incident, the same total blackout occurred again under identical conditions. Vehicle Status: The engine remained running throughout the incidents; however, the simultaneous loss of lighting and instrumentation created an extremely high-risk driving situation. This incident constitutes a critical safety failure. The vehicle had experienced repeated electrical system failures prior to this incident, and was previously presented to the dealer on 8/7/2025 for diagnosis and repair. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the malfunction and failed to take appropriate corrective action to address these issues: 07/13/2025: The Auto Stop function became inactive, and the vehicle failed to accelerate properly after stopping at traffic lights, creating a hazardous driving condition. 07/14/2025: The phone failed to connect to the vehicle’s infotainment system. 07/17/2025: While reversing in a parking lot, the Parking Collision Warning system failed to detect a moving vehicle behind the car. No audible or visual warning was issued, rendering the safety feature ineffective in preventing a potential collision.

The automatic brake system triggers when there is no obstacle. It has caused the car to stop suddenly in the middle of the road and almost become rear ended several times. We took it to the Hyundai service center and they said they’ve had complaints of this before but checked the system and don’t see any issues.

This vehicle has had numerous problems since I leased it. To summarize, at times the vehicle randomly shifts out of the ECO mode, usually into the SNOW mode. The engine has also raced, hesitated, bucked, rattled and vibrated when trying to change gears. Sometimes, these actions are subtle and sometimes they are borderline violent. This happens more frequently when the engine is cold. Additionally, the AEB system has activated a number of times while in stop and go traffic, even though the vehicle in front was moving forward. On at least 3 of these occasions, i barely avoided being rear-ended by the vehicle following me. The final issue that I have noticed is a problem with the odometer. It has appeared to work normally most of the time, but I have noticed times where I didn't think the odometer accurately reflected the distance I had traveled. I was able to synch the odometer with the trip odometer on a local road that I was quite familiar with. The trip odometer registered 1.8 miles while the odometer only registered 1 mile traveled. All of these issues happened multiple times and are intermittent. I have had the vehicle to Hyundai dealers on 5 occasions, and they claim to have not been able to duplicate any of the problems that I have been consistently logging in to a "diary" that represents a list of when I have noticed these issues. I have been in constant contact with Hyundai, but they promised to send out a factory rep, then reneged, instead relying on the local service techs. Said techs had the vehicle for nearly 2 weeks, but only drove it for 16 miles (until I called AFTER a determination was made and they hurriedly drove it an additional 22 miles to give the appearance of a more complete exam), using less than a quarter tank of gas. To me, this wasn't a thorough exam and appeared to be a cover-up to avoid having to buy back the vehicle. Note: these problems have occurred on multiple occasions, therefore the date below is the lease date.

-The center display screen system failed. The screen intermittently glitches, strobes, freezes or goes completely black while the vehicle is in operation. This screen controls GPS/Navigation, backup camera display, vehicle settings and warning alerts. The vehicle and system are available for inspection upon request. -The failure creates a significant safety risk. When the screen blacks out or strobes, I lose access to navigation, backup camera visibility, vehicle alerts and system controls. The strobing/glitching is distracting and unsafe while driving, and the loss of display during driving and parking maneuvers increases the risk of collision or injury to myself, passengers, pedestrians and other vehicles. -Yes, the vehicle has been brought to an authorized Hyundai dealership 5 separate times for the same issue. This dealership has attempted repairs, replacements, and troubleshooting of the screen system but the problem continues to occur. -Yes. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by authorized Hyundai dealership service departments acting on behalf of the manufacturer. Hyundai corporate has also been contacted regarding the unresolved defect. -The primary symptom is sudden screen malfunction without warning, including flickering, strobing, freezing or complete black out. There are no consistent warning lamps prior to failure. The issue first appeared in August 2025 and has continued intermittently since that time. No collision, accident, injury or property damage has occurred as a result of this malfunction.

Approximate date 10/7/2025. Driving 20mph clear daylight sunny conditions in right lane, another vehicle in left lane put on right blinker to merge in front of me into my lane. The merging vehicle was 3 car lengths ahead and had plenty of space to merge. Merging vehicle was only half way into right lane when without touching the brakes and no warning alarm the wheels locked up completely, skidding to a complete stop, almost got rear ended. 2 days later on 10/9/2025 same weather conditions while driving on highway the traffic was stop and go,speed 40mph. A vehicle ahead of me applied their brakes,no imminent threat, I placed my foot on brake pedal as a precaution, then brakes locked up so I pumped brakes thinking what else could I do? This did nothing, brakes remained locked until vehicle stopped. Almost got rear ended again. I can’t remember if any audible alarm or dash warning. (2) Brand new SUV consistently 1.5 - 3 hrs to warm up. I explained to Hyundai this is NOT a software issue rather an HVAC air exchange issue. (3) The gas gauge consistently underestimates the remaining fuel available by 50% in cold weather - an issue that between Bemidji, MN and Baudette, MN (102 miles/1hr 45min) there are few gas stations. On 11/11/2025 I took the SUV to first Bloomington Hyundai - they said it is working as designed. Then 11/20/2025 to Morries Hyundai said they are aware of a similar situation with the EON. I am reporting a serious safety and reliability concern with my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. At only about 2,000 miles, I was informed by the Hyundai dealership that the transmission has already failed and needs to be replaced. This vehicle is essentially brand new and should not be experiencing a major powertrain failure so early in its lifespan. The transmission issue has caused significant concern regarding the safety of the vehicle. Sudden failure of a major drivetrain component creates an increased risk of loss of power, unpredictable drivability, and unsafe operation in traffic. This is especially concerning because this vehicle was already given to me as a replacement for a previous Hyundai Tucson that qualified under my state’s lemon law. A transmission failure at such a low mileage indicates a possible manufacturing defect or a systemic quality issue that could affect other consumers. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter to determine if this is part of a broader problem in the 2025 Hyundai Tucson model line. This situation is unacceptable for a vehicle this new, and it raises serious concerns about long term safety and reliability. I am seeking further review and action so that other consumers are not placed in similar unsafe situations.

Bought car end of April brand new. June 25 brought in, console display went blank. Tried to start my car 11/10 and it would not recognize the key. Had to have it towed to dealership. Car battery was not dead, fob could start car, open doors, etc, but the car shut off as soon as you tried to start the car inside. Originally told fob problem. Nope. The told security control. Nope. Now being told it’s the BDC, basically the “control brain” of the car. Part is back ordered and my car is sitting parked at the dealership. It’s useless. Did some research and found that the BDC is becoming more and more common with a lot of people that have this car. It’s only 7 months old. The Forward Attention Warning system performs erratically, frequently disabling the adaptive cruise control without warning. Even when it does emit a warning, which again, is erractic, the warning is barely audible. When conditions, such as grooved pavement or loud cabin noises, such as when a window or moonroof is open, the warning is completely in-audible. Similarly, the warning message displayed is not readable within the 0.5 - 1.0 sec (best estimate) that it is shown, as it is several lines of text - a distraction in itself. The disabling occurred during times when this ADAS feature is most value, cruising at highway speeds in heavier traffic - a time when automatic speed control and braking, along with maintaining a clear distance, are all invaluable to driver safety.

In October 2025, the center display screen in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid began shutting off repeatedly while the vehicle was in motion. The screen controls essential functions including speed information, navigation, backup camera, safety alerts, and hybrid system data. When it shuts off, all of these features become unavailable without warning. The failure is intermittent and continues to reoccur. The component involved is the center display/infotainment system and may affect related radar and safety-system warnings. The dealer stated they duplicated the issue and reported that it was repaired, but the same display failure occurred again afterward while I was driving. The vehicle is currently with the dealer and is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others is put at risk because when the screen shuts off, I lose access to critical vehicle information. This has happened at highway speeds, including one instance where the display shut off approximately eight times within 20 minutes. In addition, the radar warning system has activated when no nearby vehicles were present, creating distraction and uncertainty. The problem has been reproduced by the dealership, documented by me on video, and reported to the manufacturer. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times by an authorized Hyundai service center and reviewed by the manufacturer’s customer service department. There have been no police or insurance inspections because the defect has not resulted in a crash, though the safety risk is significant. Warning symptoms include intermittent radar system alerts appearing without surrounding traffic. These symptoms began in October 2025 and have continued even after dealer repairs. The display failure persists and the vehicle remains unsafe to operate. P.S. I cannot upload video evidence as the website would not allow me and I have to start over.

The FAWS Forward Assistance Warning System incorrectly identifies a "sleepy driver" and turns off Adaptive Cruise Control. FAWS has a dozen triggers that will cause this system to incorrectly alert the driver that his eyes aren't looking at the road and it turns off ACC. The FAWS has a turn off switch but it does not turn it off. So, without this safety feature of Adaptive Cruise Control, the driver just gets constant alerts to stay alert. While driving at speed in heavy traffic, I quickly merged from the right lane to the left lane to avoid an obstacle. My vehicle and the new vehicle in front of me (in the left lane) were traveling at approximately the same speed, although there was an admittedly small (one half car length) distance between us. My forward collision assist inaccurately identified this new vehicle in front of me as a sudden danger that I was going to hit. It immediately applied full braking power and played the forward collision alert sound. This aggressive and unexpected stop spilled and broke items in my car as they slid, roughly strained me against my seat belt, and caused the vehicle behind me to aggressively brake. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided, only due to the fast reaction of the driver behind me. This aggressive and dangerous forward assist and emergency braking can only be temporarily disabled for one drive, and resets every time the vehicle is turned on. I have not had my vehicle inspected for this issue, but communities on the internet have confirmed that this is a common problem.

We had an incident where I took my eyes off the road to check the warning "Consider Taking a Break" light and bell came on, at that moment a large wild bird flew towards my windshield. The bird would have hit my windshield if it wasn't for my passenger yelling to stop. We had another incident where my spouse took her eyes off the road to check the "Consider Taking a Break" light came on when she was approaching a cross walk with a pedestrian in it. The problem has not been duplicated by the dealer. They may assume all of us are poor drivers because they suggested changing sun glasses, keep hands at 10 & 2, don't block the camera, sit straight up in driver seat, etc. I told the dealership and Hyundai America that I was willing to have this dangerous feature an option that I could turn off or totally removed. They said they can't do it because it's a safety feature.

Many 2025 Hyundai Tucson owners have reported significant issues with the driver attention warning feature, particularly when using cruise control and wearing sunglasses, leading to safety concerns and frustration. Common Complaints Constant Alerts: Many drivers have experienced the driver attention warning activating unnecessarily, especially while using cruise control. Users report that the system beeps and prompts them to keep their eyes on the road, even when they are attentive and looking straight ahead. This has led to frustration, with some considering disabling the feature entirely. 2 Sunglasses Interference: A recurring issue is that the driver attention warning system struggles to detect the driver's eyes when sunglasses are worn. This has caused the system to issue warnings and disable cruise control, which can be particularly dangerous in heavy traffic situations. Drivers have noted that even moderately tinted sunglasses can trigger these alerts, making it difficult to use the vehicle comfortably. 2 Safety Concerns: Some users have reported alarming incidents where the driver attention warning system caused abrupt braking, leading to near-collisions. For instance, one driver described a situation where the system suddenly applied the brakes while driving between vehicles, creating a hazardous situation. This has raised serious safety concerns among owners, particularly regarding the system's reliability and responsiveness. 1 Lack of Support from Hyundai: Many drivers have expressed dissatisfaction with Hyundai's response to these issues. Complaints about the driver attention warning feature have been met with minimal support, and some users feel that their concerns are not being adequately addressed by the manufacturer. 2 3 Sources Summary of Issues Overall, the driver attention warning feature in the 2025 Hyundai Tucson has been a source of frustration and concern for many owners. The contact stated that while driving 55 MPH, the contact attempted to switch lanes, and the Forward Collision Avoidance feature intermittently activated, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. The contact started to experience neck pain from the consistency of the failure, but did not seek medical attention. The failure had occurred on several different occasions. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was performing as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she was concerned that the brakes would sustain damage over time due to the constant failures. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that if the contact permanently disabled the Forward Collision Avoidance feature, the warranty would be affected. The failure mileage was approximately 8.

My instrument cluster goes off/on intermittently causing a safety issue (I'm unable to see how fast I'm driving etc). The problem has happened to me everyday for the last 1.5 weeks, however the dealer has had the car for a week now and claims they can't replicate the issue to get the code to order the part (I have filed a complaint with Hyundai). I want to go on record as this is not a recall with hyundai yet, but I am aware it is a well known problem with 2025 Hyundai Tucson's according to a North America Facebook page I belong to where we discuss various topics (positive and negative) regarding our cars.

I left my vehicle with the dealer for a month of this time and I got my vehicle back , it had grey seats instead of black. This feature is unable to be turned off in the settings z it has continuously distracted my driving and made it more unsafe while driving at highway speeds. There is a camera mounted on the steering column that is "supposed" to be a safety feature to tell you when you are not paying attention to the road. It gives you a picture of a coffee cup and says "consider taking a break" along with repetitive beeping. Unfortunately, if you wear sunglasses (mine are prescription), a hat, are too short or too tall it can go off repeatedly. It is extremely distracting and causes you to take your eyes off the road to see what's going on. On a 350 mile trip that I make often, it has gone off for a solid hour every 4 minutes! It averages about 30-40 times in that 5 1/2 hour trip. It also mutes anything that is playing through the infotainment system including directions. I have asked the dealer who says there is nothing they can do and it is a known problem. Hyundai says it is functioning as designed. I have also filed a report with Hyundai. A safety feature that causes distractions is not a safety feature! Also, the emergency braking has almost caused me to get rear ended on a number of occasions. I have been in the process of slowing down or braking when the emergency system kicks in and almost throws me through the windshield. In my 2024 Tuscon, Hyundai has connected their cruise control to their driver assistance function. This system includes a camera on the steering column that watches the drivers eyes. If for any reason, they cannot see your eyes they will shutdown cruise control without warning. This can be caused by simply wearing sun glasses. So this forces the customer to choose between two safety features. Cruise control which we all know has signifcant safety implications reducing stress fatique, etc. and bypass all the driver assistance systems. There are people who are putting black tape over the camera and disabling DAS so they can use their cruise control due to the inability to wear sun glasses when heading west (obviously even within a curve, so it shuts down unexectedly in the curve). Surely that is not an acceptable solution. Hyundai should add an option to ignore the eye checks while using the cruise control but so far they have totally ignored it. You can google for "Hyundai cruise control sunglasses" and will see a lot of complaints and people disabling safety features. Obviously there is no specific event, this is happening all the time in the US.

The following problems began 5 months ago, 8 months after purchase with about 4770 mileage and current mileage of about 7623: Multiple occurrences of Check Engine light coming on, sometimes setting DTC code, but often not setting code. Multiple occurrences of Crash Warning light coming on; It may have set a code or codes, but usually not. I think neither dealer was able to reproduce these 2 intermittent problems. Engine light, so far, has not occurred since it was traced to faulty connectors. As far as I know, the Crash Warning light has not come on since the dealer reduced front camera sensitivity. Also, for the past 5 months there has been intermittent, engine miss, skipping or cut-out. As of this writing it still occurs while driving and will lurch or buck if it happens under acceleration This is not frequent, but it happens erratically and it may happen only once or a few times in one day or several days between. This has not set a DTC code as far as I know; I think the following may be related to the skipping. Once, while coming to a stop, the engine stopped or almost stopped; it bucked when it happened, but continued to run. All warning lights came on for a second or two, then went off, except 3 warning lights and the warning triangle. Although the engine was running, the tachometer and speedometer read Zero. The engine bucked as I slowly drove into a parking lot, then I restarted the engine; it seemed ok, then. About 3 weeks later, while driving at slow speed, just as I took my foot off the brake and was about to accelerate, the engine quit. When the engine quit, the audible Crash Alarm went off with a message saying the engine was not running, press the start button. I started the engine, it did not have normal power. I stopped, restarted the engine and it seemed ok. I have been to the dealer several times because of these problems; dealer is still troubleshooting the last incident. This could cause an accident, especially if it occurs at a higher speed.

2025 Hyundai Tucson SEL Convenience The car is equipped with FAW Forward Attention Warning System which is supposed to give a warning if the driver's focus is diverted from looking at the road. The problem is that while driving in what Hyundai calls HDA (Highway Driving Assist) which activates when the car is placed in adaptive cruise control (cruise control that keeps the vehicle at a set speed and distance from the cars ahead) and lane driving assist (driving assist to keep the vehicle centered in the lane) the car issues far too many false warnings telling the driver to "keep your eyes on the road". While in HDA, the car monitors the driver's eyes and head position using a driver facing camera, part of the FAW (Forward Attention Warning system) or DDMS (Direct Driver Monitoring System) to assure the driver is focused on the road ahead. However, in the 2025 Hyundai, this system is so flawed that the car is practically undrivable in the HDA mode with cruise control and lane driving assist engaged issuing too many false warnings, that the driver is not focusing on the road. The multiple warnings, in some cases every few seconds, is extremely distracting taking the driver's attention away from safely controlling the vehicle. The system which is intended to make the vehicle safer is instead such a distraction it makes the car unsafe due to the constant false warnings requiring driver attention to address them and away from safely operating the vehicle.

ODI #11684252EXTERIOR LIGHTING,STRUCTURECRASH

On 08/31/2025, I was involved in an accident while driving my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. While attempting to change lanes at highway speed, the driver behind me failed to see my turn signal and collided with my vehicle. I believe the cause was the unusually low placement of the rear bumper-mounted turn signals, which creates a direct visibility flaw. The Tucson’s turn signals are mounted low on the rear bumper instead of at eye level within the taillight assembly. This design makes them especially difficult to see in two critical conditions: Bright Sunlight: The low-mounted signals are easily washed out in daytime conditions, reducing visibility to following drivers. Low Light/Traffic Conditions: At night or in heavy traffic, larger vehicles and brake light glare further obscure the signals. In my case, the driver behind me could not see my intent to switch lanes, and despite my efforts to avoid a collision, the lack of visible signaling directly led to a frontal driver’s side impact. This design presents an ongoing highway safety hazard: Poor Visibility: Low placement reduces signal recognition in both bright and low light. Accident Risk: My collision demonstrates the real-world consequences of this flaw. Durability Concerns: Bumper-level placement exposes wiring to water, debris, and road wear, raising the risk of malfunction. Although the accident resulted in minor damage, the potential for severe outcomes at highway speeds is significant. I respectfully request NHTSA to investigate this design flaw and evaluate whether corrective action (recall, retrofit, or advisory) is warranted. UNKNOWN if Hyundai is currently addressing this issue, but concerns about rear blinker visibility have been widely reported among Tucson owners and auto safety forums.

The coffee break warning has zero rhyme or reason and will go off 10+ times in a trip even though I am not distracted and use my turn signal changing lanes. Dealer states there is no way to turn this off. Dashboard randomly flashes and goes dark along with all lighting in and outside the vehicle. Dealer was unable to duplicate the problem and returned the car with no fix. Drove the car in the rain for the first time and dashboard came up with a ton of errors and crash detection turned off. The message “Consider taking a coffee break” will pop up just 15 minutes into a trip. This message beeps prior to flashing on the screen which causes us to take our eyes off the road to determine what is beeping and continues to “alert” us often during our travels. Hyundai has not provided a way for this warning to be deactivated. Hyundai has way too many messages beeping and appearing on the screen that causes distractions and has not provided a way to turn them off. As for the speed control, my ophthalmologist suggested I wear dark sunglasses due to issues I have in bright sunlight. The speed control will actually turn off if I wear dark sunglasses because the onboard camera cannot see my eyes. Also, the speed control will turn off if I’m making a turn and my arm gets in the way of the camera. This is extremely dangerous that the speed control just stops. We also will get beeps and a message on the screen if the camera cannot see our eyes, even when we are looking straight ahead. Again, this causes us to see what is beeping and what the message says. This is a distraction that causes us to take our eyes off the road. Terrible design.

On two occasions, the dash lights kept blacking out, along with the Heads Up Display. On my way to the dealer for a maintenance appointment, all of the emergency lights came on and would not go away. After parking at the dealer service center, I told my service rep what happened, and when she restarted the vehicle, the lights were still on. I was immediately given a loaner. After making the repair, the mechanic asked to keep the vehicle to drive for a few days to make sure the problem didn't come back. I know these problems can reappear, even after they are fixed. I don't want to drive the car if the safety lights are all illuminated, but I also don't want to be stuck someplace without transportation.

On Friday, [XXX], around [XXX] PM while traveling home my dashboard lights on the instruments panel and windshield pop up display were out, then back on, then out again, and then back on. On Saturday, [XXX], I traveled to another area about an hour away and all was fine, but on the way home it went out at least 12 times. Sometimes the dashboard light would come back up but not the pop-up display. When these go out I can not see my speed or any alerts that may possibly come up. The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the instrument cluster went black; however, the radio was still playing. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and occurred while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that occasionally the failure lasted for 20 minutes before the instrument cluster returned to normal function. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the coaxial cable needed to be adjusted. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the instrument cluster wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Subject: Ongoing Electrical and Safety Issues with 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited Complaint Description: I am reporting a recurring and serious safety issue with my 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited. I am the original owner and purchased the vehicle brand new, directly off the truck. It has now been to the dealership four separate times for the same persistent “Check User Authentication” electrical issue. Most recently, the driver display screen went completely blank while driving and flashed a green “No Signal” warning. This made it impossible to see speed, warning indicators, fuel level, or other critical driving information. Losing all visibility of this data while in motion is extremely dangerous and creates a serious safety risk. The dealership first said it was caused by loose coax cables from the factory, but the problem continues. I also experienced a sudden, complete electrical failure while driving. The instrument cluster and infotainment shut off, speakers went dead, and all charging ports lost power. The Head-Up Display (HUD) also failed during this same event. Restarting the car temporarily restored function, but the failure happened randomly and without explanation. The air conditioning system now loses power and restarts while driving. The dealership has had the vehicle for over a month with no resolution. Hyundai corporate is involved with multiple case numbers, but no permanent fix has been found. The most alarming event was when every major dash warning light came on at once: ABS, Power Steering, Traction Control, Stability Control, AFS, EPB, and Battery. These lights stayed on even after shutting off the vehicle and fully drained the battery. These repeated failures pose a serious threat to driver and passenger safety. I request that NHTSA investigate these issues, as they may affect more 2025 Tucson models.

The forward attention warning system uses a camera on the steering column. It goes off constantly while wearing my required glasses. Hyundai nor the dealership will turn off the sensor. There are over 10,000 complaints for this issue and Hyundai will not correct the issue. The system will automatically adjust the speed and brake in the vehicle without the driver. I almost had a wreck yesterday when it shut the car down when the camera couldn’t see my eyeballs while wearing my glasses. Something needs to be done. I’m thinking of filing a lawsuit against Hyundai as a class action. Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thank you

I leased a brand new 2025 Hyundai Tucson on March 15, 2025, with fewer than 10 miles on the odometer. Shortly after driving an additional 10 miles, the vehicle’s screen malfunctioned, displaying burn-in and becoming non-functional. This issue significantly affects safety, as it renders the backup camera unusable during operation. The vehicle was first brought in for service on March 17, 2025, but the issue was not resolved. Subsequent service attempts were made on March 20, April 9, and most recently on April 11, 2025. As of today, the problem remains unresolved. The vehicle has been in the service center for approximately 15 days since the date of purchase. In addition to the defective screen, the vehicle failed to start on one occasion, leaving me stranded alone in a parking lot, stuck in accessory mode with the brake locked. The car has also exhibited alignment issues, consistently pulling to the left while driving, which has required two alignments since the purchase date.

Regarding the forward collision warning. This system I feel is honestly scaring me and I am now turning it off whenever I start the car I was driving one day and a car abruptly stopped in front of me for a quick second but started rolling again rather quickly. I was slowing down, I saw the car stopping and before I could even react the car slammed on the breaks and completely locked the wheels up and I came sliding to a stop. It almost caused me to be rear ended which I am glad did not happen but again very close. I am also worried it may detect oncoming traffic and slam on the brakes I don’t like feeling that I’m not in control of the vehicle. This system in particular needs either disabled or looked over again

I am filing a complaint regarding a serious safety malfunction in my 2025 Hyundai Tucson’s forward collision sensor, which caused an accident. I have owned this vehicle for only two weeks, and I believe this issue poses a risk to myself and other drivers. On February 25, 2025, while driving, the car in front of me stopped and made a U-turn. There was no imminent risk of collision, yet my Tucson’s forward collision sensor erroneously activated and engaged the automatic braking system. This caused my vehicle to come to an abrupt stop, resulting in a rear-end collision. I have documented the incident, including photographs, a police report, and insurance documentation, which I can provide upon request. This malfunction is extremely concerning, as a feature designed to prevent accidents instead directly caused one. If this issue exists in other Hyundai Tucson vehicles, it presents a severe hazard for drivers. I urge NHTSA to investigate this as a potential safety defect, determine if other similar complaints exist, and assess whether Hyundai needs to issue a recall or software fix. I also need guidance on whether there are any known remedies or if I should take my vehicle to the dealership for inspection. This issue must be addressed before it leads to more accidents. Please let me know if further information is needed.

If the car behind me was unable to swerve in time i would have been rear-ended. by the time the engine started the car behind me was in line with my back seat. no amount of gas saving is worth being immobilized essentially in a emergency situation. - forward collision avoidance is way too sensitive, in the same trip as above a car hit their brakes approximately 6 car lengths in front of me to turn into a parking lot. the car in front of me did slam on their brakes to make the turn. As i took my foot off the gas to slow down the "safety feature" activated, applied my brakes and almost caused the car behind me to rear end me. i was going roughly 45 mph and the car behind me was roughly 2 car lengths behind me when the "safety feature" activated. the sensitivity of this system is way too high and will wind up causing more accidents then it prevents

ODI #11629341FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

I could not find an exact category check above, but this does sort of relate to cruise control. The Driver Attention Warning cannot be disabled even though there is an option to disable it. Turning it off has no affect. This is a warning that basically tells you to keep your eyes on the road. Sunglasses and regular eyeglasses can often cause it to create a warning. The system will then turn off cruise control if it's being used. According to several owners, this is common on newer model Hyundais and Hyundai either chooses not to or simply cannot fix this. My wife has notified Hyundai and is awaiting a response.

ODI #11627220VISIBILITY/WIPER

We purchased a brand new 2025 Hyundai Tucson from Earnhardt Hyundai North Scottsdale on October 26, 2024. We brought the car home and while it was parked facing the afternoon sun, we noticed that the entire windshield was speckled with thousands or more spots that greatly reduced the visibility. It was difficult to see through the windshield. We also noticed the same defect on the other windows, however, not as bad. We contacted the dealership and subsequently brought it into their service center for inspection. They confirmed the visibility defect and ordered a new factory replacement windshield and installed it. The replacement windshield, while not perfectly clear of spots, was acceptable for safe driving. The original windshield had such poor visibility in certain conditions that it would be hard to see anything, which would be hazardous while driving. We took possession of the car after the windshield replacement was completed but still feel that the spots on the other windows are a manufacturing defect but do not necessarily create a hazard. Along with employees of Earnhardt dealership, we looked at other brand new 2025 Hyundai vehicles of varying makes and models and observed the same windshield defect in many of the cars we looked at on their sales lot. This does not appear to be an isolated incident, but the dealership said that we were the first customers to bring it to their attention. We feel that knowing there are other cars on the road with diminished visibility that means drivers of those vehicles may not even be aware until conditions prevent them from seeing the road and their surroundings.

The blue line shows 247 total NHTSA complaints filed over 3 years, with the worst year being 2026 (126 complaints, including 13 crash reports).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 10/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

Notably, despite 247 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.

Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2025, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
