Owners of the 2010 ACURA RDX report safety systems issues more than most other systems. Complaints concentrated in one area often signal a systemic weakness worth a targeted pre-purchase inspection.
Owners of the 2010 ACURA RDX report engine/powertrain issues more than most other systems. Complaints concentrated in one area often signal a systemic weakness worth a targeted pre-purchase inspection.
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

I PURCHASED A 2010 ACURA RDX FROM CAR ZONE, LOCATED AT 18690 VAN BUREN BLVD I RIVERSIDE, CA. BEFORE THE PURCHASE, I ADDRESSED THE TIRE PRESSURE AIR LIGHT AND THE UNSTEADINESS OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS ALSO A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE IN WHICH THE DEALER DID NOT FIX. I TOOK THE CAR TO METRO ACURA IN MONTCLAIR, CA FOR THE RECALL ON AUGUST 5TH. I DROVE 3 BLOCKS AND THE AIR BAG SAFETY LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO METRO ACURA ON AUGUST 9TH AND THEY STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL. I FILED A CASE WITH ACURA , #09780205 ON AUGUST 12TH. AT THIS POINT, NO ONE WANTS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE AIR BAG MAINTENANCE. THIS SHOULD NOT BECOME MY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE AIR BAG RECALL SHOULD'VE BEEN ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER BEFORE THE PURCHASE. ACURA CORPORATE AND METRO ARE POINTING THE FINGER AT EACH OTHER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE WHOM RIDES IN THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. AT THIS POINT, I JUST WANT IT FIX BEFORE IT BECOMES A LIABILITY. PLEASE ADVISE, WHO SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RESOLUTION? THANKS

TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN MARCH 2016, THE DEALER INFORMED ME THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE END OF THE SUMMER 2016.

WAS SITTING AT A TOP LIGHT AND CAR HIT ME FROM BEHIND. MY SEAT BELT DIDN'T STOP ME AND HIT MY HEAD AND ARM ON THE STEERING WHEEL. IT DID STOP THE PASSENGER. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH ACURA AND THEY SAID THE SEAT BELT WORKED AS DESIGNED. I AM 5'10 SO I DO NOT SIT CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. IF THE SEAT BELT WOULD HAVE STOPPED ME, I WOULD HAVE NOT SLAMMED MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND GOTTEN A HEAD INJURY. *TR

I JUST WALKED AWAY FROM BUYING A 2010 OR 11 ACURA RDX, AND MAY DO THE SAME W/ OTHER NEW CARS. IN THIS NEW MODEL, MY NECK WAS PUSHED FORWARD SO FAR, THAT I GOT A TERRIBLE HEADACHE AND NECK PAIN W/IN A 20 MIN TEST OF THIS CAR. IF THEY ARE ALL LIKE THIS, I'LL KEEP MY OLD CAR. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE ADJUSTMENTS DEPENDING ON SIZE AND HEIGHT. TOO BAD, I REALLY LIKE THE AUTO. SOME THINGS ARE JUST GOING OVER THE TOP. *TR
WE PURCHASES A 2010 ACURA RDX. MY WIFE NOTED THE FUEL INDICATOR STATED SHE HAD 20 MILES LEFT BEFORE EMPTY. BEFORE SHE COULD EXIT FOR GAS (WITHIN 5 MILES THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF GAS). SHE WAS ON A FREEWAY IN A VERY DANGEROUS AREA AT RUSH HOUR. THE POLICE BROUGHT IN BACK UP AND SET FLARES, THEN ORDERED THE CAR TO BE TOWED DUE TO THE DANGER TO MY WIFE AND THE OFFICERS RESPONDING. WE ALERTED OUR SALESMAN AT ACURA. HE STATED THIS WAS THE 4TH COMPLAINT HE PERSONALLY RECEIVED ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF GAS DUE TO A FAULTY CALIBRATION ON THE FUEL INDICATOR. I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO RESULT IN INJURIES IF NOT DEATHS. IN MY OPINION, A WARNING LETTER SHOULD BE ISSUED BY ACURA. *TR
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 22 total NHTSA complaints filed over 6 years, with the worst year being 2016 (8 complaints).
The amber reliability line averaged 99/100 across the vehicle's life — relatively stable, with the lowest point of 91/100 in 2011.
The red dashed lines mark recall issuance — the first recall came 6 years after owners began filing complaints, a lag that indicates the manufacturer was slow to formally acknowledge these problems.
Red dots on the amber line flag 2011, a year when complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
Legal & Regulatory Actions
Known class action lawsuits, settlements, and manufacturer extended warranty programs
5-Year Total Cost of Ownership
Estimated based on EPA fuel data, risk-adjusted maintenance, and depreciation
