I live 5 hours from the closest Volvo dealership so I called to see if they could send me the the air bag that has been recalled. The airbag is very easy to be replaced in less then 10 minutes. Because of this it is absolutely absurd for me to travel for ten hours to get something done that I can do myself in 10 minutes. They said I can buy the airbag and they could send it. But this being a recall is'nt it their responsibility to fix it in any way possible. I just feel like this is wrong that they are doing this and am addressing it in this compliant.

The local dealer is Maple Hill in Kalamazoo. I started a chat with Volvo and the suggestion was to try another dealer. If the part is not available I fail to see how that will help.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED AND WAS RETURNED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 280,582.

THE FACTORY INSPECTED THE CAR AND HELD IT TEN DAYS. THE SERVICE MAN CALLED ME AND STATED THE FACTORY WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS REPLACING MY TRANSMISSION. I WAS ABLE TO PICK UP MY CAR ON MAY 22 AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN CORRECTED. SINCE THEN, THE ENGINE HAS SHUT DOWN ON THREE OCCASIONS, EACH TIME ON THE FREEWAY. I REPORTED THIS TO VOLVO CUSTOMER SERVICE ON MAY 26TH. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE FREEWAY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AGAIN AND I NARROWLY AVERTING A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I HAD TO HAVE THE WHEEL BEARING REPLACED ON MY OLD MAZDA 323 WHEN IT HAD ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT SO I KNOW IT IS A BIG DEAL. MANUFACTURER'S TERM FOR THIS PROBLEM IS "SHIFT FLAIR" IN WHICH ENGINE RPM INCREASES DURING A SHIFT MAKING THE CAR FEEL LIKE IT HAS TEMPORARILY LOST DRIVE OR THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. IN MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE PROBLEM, THE ENGINE RPM WOULD SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE FOR A FEW SECONDS AND DURING THAT PERIOD THE CAR WOULD LOSE POWER. THE BRACKET IS MADE OF PLASTIC. I REPLACED IT MYSELF WITH A STEEL BRACKET. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY,BUT I DID NOT WANT THE SAME BRACKET INSTALLED . ALSO THIS DEALER HAS REFUSED TO DO WARRANTY WORK ON MY CAR BEFORE.
