The electronic steering lock (ESL) system on my 2014 Mercedes-Benz C250 failed without warning, leaving the vehicle completely unable to start. When attempting to start the vehicle, the key would insert but the vehicle would not crank or start, and the steering lock malfunction prevented normal operation of the vehicle. The vehicle became stranded and inoperable. This failure created a safety risk because the vehicle could not be moved and left me stranded unexpectedly. If this failure were to occur in an unsafe area or emergency situation, it could place the driver and passengers at risk. After researching the issue, I found numerous reports online from other owners of similar Mercedes-Benz C-Class models experiencing the same ESL/EIS failure. This appears to be a common issue affecting these vehicles. At this time, the problem has not yet been repaired. UNKNOWN if the manufacturer has inspected the vehicle. No warning lights or prior symptoms appeared before the failure. The malfunction happened suddenly and without warning.

I was coming off the freeway on 9/25/25, and when I pressed on the breaks they completely locked up and would not break at all. The car turned off, no warning lights nothing, and I continued to hit the break and the car would not stop, then all of a sudden it came to a stop almost colliding within inches of hitting the Semi-Truck in front of me. This is the second time in one year that this has happened to me, I have had the car checked out the first time last year immediately, and even paid to diagnose it, nothing, I had the brakes and rotors replaced last June of 2024 when this happened. Since then the car has only been in the dealership to get the car Fully checked out mutltiple times within 2024, 2025 and repaired by Mercedes dealership. On 9/25/25 this happened to me and it was a traumatic experiance when I pressed the break and the break got super hard and in a Locked position and would not come to a stop, there was no warning lights, no engine lights, nothing. (increased braking effort, and potentially I was inches of collision risk. I had the car towed to the nearest shop and was told this is a collapsed break booster Vacuum pump, and possibly the hose and lines and possibly further problems but they would need to replace the Vacuum pump first. After I looked to see if there was a recall on the vacuum pumps in that model on google and it says the following; Google- 2014 Mercedes c250 recall on Vacuum pump A-Premium Vacuum Pump Compatible With Select Mercedes ...Yes, there was a recall on certain Mercedes-Benz vehicles, including some 2014 C250 models, related to a defective brake booster vacuum hose. Leaving my home from my driveway and driving about 15 feet I heard a loud pop from my backseat area and noticed my Headrest on drivers side deployed without any reason. The airbag right/left malfunction light showed on my dash saying service required. Mercedes benz Dealership said they never heard of this. The dealership Removed old headrest and replaced with a new one , reset malfunction light and a fuse. Price was enormous.

My Mercedes Benz 2014 W204 C250 initially had a noise during startup. The startup noise became louder and now my car does not start. Also, the check engine light indicate a cam shaft position sensor error. Looking online it appears that my problem is exactly like the problem described in a NHTSA report on 2012-2015 W204 and W172 vehicles(C250 and SLK250) equipped with the M271 engine. The ESL has failed and it has happened in a lot of these cars.i was unable to move my steering wheel.
The left rear subframe separated from the main frame causing the car to pull to the left when braking. I had an episode where I was stopping for a traffic light and the car started fishtailing and I almost lost control of the car. Following this episode, I took the car to a mechanic who advised me that the car was unsafe to drive. My mechanic also told me that he has repaired a number of these vehicle with the same problem, and that Mercedes Benz has extended their warranty from 4 years 50,000 miles to 20 years unlimited mileage. They did the extension after someone filed a class action suit in Georgia about the problem. The vehicle is presently at a Mercedes dealer awaiting the new subframe.
To Whom It May Concern, I am seeking assistance regarding my 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-300, VIN [XXX] . I repurchased this vehicle from the London Nissan Dealership on [XXX]. It currently has about 120,000 miles, and I have driven an additional 15,000 miles in the past two years. Less than three months after purchase, I took the car to a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Knoxville, TN, for repairs on May 16th. Now, my vehicle is at James Motor Company in Lexington, KY, where they diagnosed a faulty steering column that needs replacement at a cost of $1,630.00. I have already taken this car to the dealership twice for issues in under two years. The problems began when the vehicle wouldn’t start one morning; the steering column was locked despite a fully charged battery. This failure could have led to a serious accident, especially since I drive frequently for work and school. There were no warning signs prior to this incident. The dealership has confirmed the steering column issue and can provide inspection upon request. I also have a list of parts needed for the repair available. A known issue by many mB owners related to Steering Wheel Lock or ESL system. Car will not start due to a known defect related to a part installed inside the steering wheel preventing owners from starting car safely and to get to destination safely.
It's the ESL ELECTRIC STEERING LOCK THIS PART IS KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE AND IS POSTED ONLINE TO FIX AND ALSO BYPASS IT. I AM NOT A MECHANIC SO I AM TOLD PART ALONE IS $570 AT MERCEDES THEY HAVE TO PROGRAM IT. THIS PART IS KNOW TO BREAK AND ONLY THEY CAN REPROGRAM IT. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFTY ISSUE. THE CAR RTDOES NOT START BECAUSE OF IT AND IT LOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL IN PLACE. THE CODE FOR IT ON CAR IS A25464 code on car. This is a known problem and it makes the car undrivable. I don't have files but had car toed 2 times. I will have recept after it's fixed

Rotted rear sub frame due to poor design retaining water
I purchased my vehicle from the Mercedes Benz Dealership and received a recall letter in the mail stating that driver side deployment may occur. After receiving notice I brought the car to the dealership to get the recall repaired. I've been driving around with a false sense of security believing that this issue was repaired. However, recently, while I was driving the driver side airbag unexpectedly and abruptly deployed and injured me. This is a major safety concern and car owners should be notified and made aware that the issue can still occur after the recall was repaired. I contacted Mercedes Benz and they did not issue any additional notices to inform customers of possible recall issue reoccurring due to manufacturer defects even after the repair was made. Additionally, I believe the driver side Takata airbag/inflators may have also been defective because of the injuries I incurred from the forceful explosive eruption of the airbag. In rare instances, if the steering column module is exposed to an electrostatic discharge, and if the steering column module clock spring is broken (due to wear), this could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver airbag. An inadvertent driver airbag deployment may cause a risk of injury to the driver and might increase the risk of a potential crash. A broken clock spring will illuminate the SRS warning light as well as display a warning message in the instrument cluster. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Dealer will install a sufficient ground to the steering column, and a protective ring to the steering column module.
Driving on [XXX] to Atlanta GA my car would not automatically shift and began to vibrate badly. I was almost hit by other vehicles as I pulled off the highway to check car out. Car was vibrating badly in idle and when I resumed my trip back home the car would not accelerate properly and caused tremendous stress and danger. Figured out that car would not shift automatically and I was forced to shift the car manually. Car would sputter and vibrate badly and would only slightly less vibrate to where I could drive it home in gear D5 and would less vibrate at 75+ mph very dangerous, and would lose power and shake violently going up highway hills. I prayed all the way home and barely made it shaken. I called my Mercedes Benz Dealer from the highway and immediately scheduled appointment on 8/15/24. I was driving on the highway my car sort of hesitated for a brief second then continued on as if nothing about one mile later my car began to slow down while I was in traffic so asap I pulled over at this point I could only go about 40 miles per hour which was very terrifying at that time it came a complete stop. After restarting the car 3-4 times it stayed running I continue home which was about 12 miles from my current location. For the next few days I did not go any where. I then had an appointment to have the 80,000 mile maintenance I mentioned the problem I was then told I need a throttle body replacement costing more than $2000 that I can not afford. At that time I started researching my own problem. My relative who works on 18 wheel truck for a living, . that perhaps it just may need cleaning rather than replacement . Also per my research this happens quite often with this model it also stated that Mercedes C250 was the worst Mercedes of that year many many owners have had this problem. The yellow ESP light come on saying it is off also my hold brake no longer works. It work at my prior dealer appointment it while going to appointment afterwards it did not work since over 9 years seldom used I wasn't concerned thus that is the message that appears when car fails Mercedes wants me to pay I believe $2000 problem not needed
I bought my 2014 C250 back in 2017 with 17K miles and currently has 58,570 miles. The issue is with fast acceleration from a stop or slow moving. When trying to accelerate to merge with traffic after a few seconds the vehicle goes into limp mode and the check engine light comes on. In limp mode I am only able to accelerate very slowly and this is a major concern for my safety. This has been and ongoing issue over the past few years and I have learned to reset it temporarily (around 10 times) with a YouTube fix. I recently found out that there was a recall for the high pressure fuels pump on some C250 models but mine was never included. I also found out that the recall time limit has expired. Please investigate and expand the recall along with the time limit so my vehicle will be included.
While I was driving my car the driver side airbag abruptly deployed. The airbag inadvertently deployed; the car did not crash into anything to cause the airbag to deploy. When the airbag erupted it caused injury to my head, face, hand, arm and wrist. I believe the airbag is defective because I have lacerations on my face possibly due to sharp objects ejecting from the airbag and the impact as well as excessive smoke and fumes emitted after the fact. I believe there might be a manufacturing defect in the airbag because it seemed as if it exploded with excessive force causing harm to myself as well as inadvertent eruption. There have been some recalls issued on the motor vehicle and I did take the vehicle to the Mercedes car dealership to get all of the recalls repaired, however this incident occurred after the repairs were made at the dealership.
The driver's side interior door handle became disengaged as I was trying to open the door so I was momentarily trapped inside. If I had been in a situation where I had been in an accident and needed to get out quickly, or the car had been on fire, or I was stalled on the train tracks, this could have been a serious incident. When I googled this, it sounds like this is a very common occurrence in Mercedes. There was no warning that this was going to occur - everything seemed secure before this happened. I have taken it to a service center for a very expensive repair as they have to remove the door panel, replace/reattach the part and put the door panel back.
took car in for oil change and was informed that car should not be driven because rear subframe had rotted thru and rear link was completly unattached and hitting gas tank. havent had a response from 2 dealerships this car is unstable and hitting the brakes requires a lot of attention to keep on road

The passenger airbag was replaced under the Takata recall. Recently the airbag indicator light came on for the driver airbag. We have been notified by the dealership that this airbag needs replaced. They provided an estimate of $2,652.29. We reached out to Mercedes due to this being a safety issue and also due to the fact that the passenger airbag was replaced under a recall. They are unwilling to assist. It is illogical that just the passenger airbag is faulty in the recall but that the driver's airbag is fine as they came from the same manufacturer and installed when the vehicle was built. We are concerned about either deploying on its own or if it will deploy in an accident.

No warnings for this issue, i was only able to notice it because when it rains now if not under cover that part of the car will allow water to leak into the vehicles inside There was a recall campain in which the number is 2021070010 and it included 2014-2020 mercedes C class which my vehicle matches said description but when i have tried to get this issue resolved but my vehicles vin number was not apart of this recall as it shows across multiple sources

Rear sub frame rusting through
The intake manifold blew on my car while it was off overnight and I took it to the Mercedes dealership to have it fix and the next day I got it back after it was repaired the same problem happened again when I went to unlock my car I heard a bang and smoke coming from the engine
I prchased used with no visible damage to the windshield. In the inclement weather for no apparent reason my windshield began to crack as I was driving the vehicle. I pulled over as soon as I could. The crack stoped and I called the Mercedes Benz manufacture to no avail. I decided to research to see if this is common and the article says, "that the 2014 Mercedes Benz" windshields are known to crack in extrem cold and hot conditions. The windshield has continued to spider and crack in different direction. I feel threathened at this point and featful for my life that this will implode in my face while driving. I did in good faith reach out to someone.
The ignition switch is causing the steering column to lock and it has been reported a lot at different dealerships that I have called.
The driver's side door handle broke impossible to open door from inside if there was an accident. I have been told that this is a common problem with my car, and that it cost 1600.00 to replace repair at the dealer. This is such a common problem that there are after market kits to repair the broken handle for 20.00, but including labor the repair is $500.00.
I was driving my vehicle when the transmission started shifting erratically. The shifts were not smooth but hard and the car was shuddering. Yes the vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others were at risk due to the erratic behavior of the vehicle and how it affected my ability to focus on driving safely. Yes my vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer and the problem has been reproduced by my local Mercedes Benz dealer. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. After a few weeks of driving I saw a “low coolant” warning appear, this turned out to indicate that the radiator had leaked coolant into the transmission which damaged the internal transmission components and torque converter.
Mercedes has a convenience easy enter/exit feature that lifts the steering and slides the driver's seat back for easy exit and restores the seat and steering when the driver sits down and places the key in the ignition. The safety issue is the steering often gets locked in the up position and doesn't lower, making it unsafe to drive the car. This is happened 5 times since I bought the car. I had to drive home with the steering wheel locked above the dashboard. The car has been towed to the dealership 4 times under warranty and now I have to get it towed myself. There are approximately 54000 miles on the car.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where the service technician advised the brake lines to the rear tries were rusted and had to be replaced . The vehicle was repaired at a estimated cost of $2,900. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. we were advised that the car is a hazard to drive until repaired. I was in an accident that caused my car to be a total loss. I was hit near the front left side, close to the driver's door. The airbag did not deploy despite the hard impact. I am currently having to go to therapy due to impact. My right lower arm was bruised from the impact, and I was in a lot of pain due to the bruising caused. I am assuming the bruising came from the hit to the steering wheel. I was never notified of an airbag recall.
Car would just shut down intermittently, sometimes sudden death. No crank no start. Been stranded at night alone with my child in the car and at times, unsafe areas. Electronic Ignition Switch is faulty and MB has had my car for 1 month to date. Quoted me a repair cost of $2,787. Said the EIS is on back order with no ETA, and they currently have 5 others with exact problem, ignition switch. So many people have reported this problem for years with the C300. I'm a single mom, it's been a nightmare.
Rear left sub frame is found to be broken due to corrosion and rust. Right side is near to be broken. Driving under such condition is very dangerous.

Completely rotted & rusted sub-frame. Caused braking/stability/steering issues and was completely undriveable. Cost $2300 to fix, another $1000 for car rental as well as lost time at work. There have also been many reports of this problem with other drivers of the same model of vehicle. NO warning lamps or messages whatsoever, only knew the level of damage once I brought it into auto shop.

Car has approximately 60,000. miles. Upon it's state inspection Mercedes Benz service center indicated rear subframe is rusted. Service advisory says it is okay now, but will need to be replaced. Searching Mercedes forums, I've noted this is a n oft reported issue. Many do not realize there is an issue until it breaks and car pulls to one side at rear upon braking. Others have experienced rusted brake lines at the same area as the subframe issue. Others have noted damage to the gas tank from suspension parts banging the fuel tank after it breaks. I realize this is a 8 year old vehicle. But the vehicle shows zero signs of rust on the undercarriage except for the subframe. Sure seems like a manufacturer's defect that should be recalled by Mercedes. Because of safety concerns, I now have to decide to repair or trade the car because of safety concerns. But the rusted subframe zaps the value I thought I had in the vehicle for a trade. What is the protocol for manufacturer's to issue safety recalls. Sure seems like this one qualifies.
Malfunction of rear subframe and control arms due to rust causing the subframe to crack. When breaking the rear wheels swerved almost causing a collision on the highway. My mechanic inspected the car and deemed it unsafe for driving as this can cause injury or death to me and others. The car is currently being repaired. This problem is being ignored by MBUSA, however MB in Europe acknowledges the faulty metal and will repair at no cost. There were no warning lamps or messages that made me aware that the subframe is rusted and cracked.
On December 14, 2022 at approximately 3:45 pm in rush hour traffic in the high speed lane on i-75 in Bradenton, Fl, the 2014 Mercedes C250 I was driving lost total engine power, traveling from 80mph to 0 in seconds. I had just enough time because of the momentum of the speed I was traveling at to maneuver the car into the breakdown lane adjacent to a median construction site. Had I been traveling in the middle lane there would have been insufficient time to change lanes in heavy, fast traveling traffic and get to a breakdown lane. In other words, we could have been killed. There was no check engine light nor warning lights of any kind. The engine was quiet and there was no engine rattling noise or shuddering prior to the incident during over 7 hours of travel from Marietta, Georgia into Florida. The car had been purchased from a used car dealer in Marietta two days before and had passed the Georgia emissions test on 11/18/22. We had the car towed to a Mercedes Benz dealership 20 miles away in Sarasota. On 12/16/22 Mercedes mechanics deemed the catastrophic engine failure to be due to a broken timing chain (this was confirmed in a conversation12/21 with Mercedes Sarasota Service Manager Jim Foulkrod) and that there was no compression in the engine. Among the codes which came up during Mercedes multi-point inspection was 036562, exhaust cam signal and 34164. Mercedes’ estimate to fix the car was $24,222.13. We declined to move forward with engine repairs. Mercedes was threatening to charge storage fees so the car was donated to the charity, Veteran Car Donations, Heroes on the Water which towed the car on 12/20/22. The car remains with the charity awaiting title transfer information.
Interior driver door handle not operating. I brought the car to the mechanic and he states this is a common problem and the whole door panel has to be replace for 1000.00. I went home and researched repairs on this and this is a very common issue with mercedes and many mechanics including the one I went to doesn't understand why this is not a recall. This a very serious safety issue. I have to lower the window to get out of my car. If I have to get out quickly it is impossible. If the window stops working I cannot get out of the car. This safety issue affects me and my passengers if I have to get out of my car quick such an accident or fire. The quality is so poor on these plastic parts of the handle and removing the door panel is complicated because it not meant to be removed and taken apart. I am a nurse that was traveling in Nevada when this occurred.

I received a notice several years ago for the airbag to be replaced due to a recall. Mercedes-Benz has not been able to remedy this issue for years. I have called for several years, but the Mercedes dealer near me continues to state that the airbag part is not available. I called Mercedes hotline (877-496-3691) a month ago to report the issue. No one answered so I left a voicemail. I received no contact from them. I called last week 3 times in a row and finally someone answered. I opened a claim with them for the escalation team. They said I would receive a response in 48 hours. I received no response.
With no prior warning indicator on braking issues with my 2014 C250, I travelled from Ormond Beach FL to Savannah GA, on I-95 with one stop in Kingsland GA. I still had no warning indicator on breaking issues as I took the off-ramp to Savannah. A failure occurred with the braking system as I exited I-95, with no vehicle warning indicator shown before or after I came to a stop. I had to exert maximum pressure on the brake to stop, requiring an expansion clear length of off-ramp to do so. An elderly, weaker person or even my wife wouldn’t have had the strength to stop over the distance I stopped it in. Luckily there was no vehicles stopping in front of me, otherwise I would have hit them at high speed. At Savannah Mercedes they found a Faulty Vacuum Pump, & like me were perplexed that no prior warning indicator showed up on my vehicle. This issue has obviously caused me great concern & indicates an inherent dangerous & life-threatening condition with my, & I assume other 2014 C-250’s, if not other years and models. If this dangerous failure had occurred on I-95 as traffic slowed to a stop, I would have run into the vehicle in front of me & my wife & could have been killed. More menacingly, it would most probably have been reported that I wasn’t paying attention & it was my fault rather that a catastrophic dangerous manufacturer failure with my vehicle. It sadly seems to me that this scenario may actually have happened with some MB vehicles and the driver/s are not around to say.
During an oil change (11/9/2022), my technician found rust on the rear subframe. He stated that this is a known safety problem caused by defective materials during manufacturing. He stated that Mercedes is aware of this problem but has not issued a recall as of this date. I checked the online Mercedes forums and the problem is very common with the C-class W204 models. The car has been running fine and I received no warnings other than what my mechanic told me. I want to know when Mercedes is going to issue a recall to get this fixed before it's too late.
I bought the car from a used car dealer and 4 days later I was going 70 miles a hour down a highway and the studs broke on my right rear tire and the tire fell off.
I purchased my car one year ago from a Mercedes dealership - 8/31/2021. I brought it in for service at the same dealership a week ago and they told me the rear subframe rusted from the inside out and it FAILED inspection. The parts are $5,100 and not available until some time in Q1 2023. There is no way a car rusts from the INSIDE OUT in one year. I have another vehicle in the same driveway, same everything and there is no rust anywhere. We have had all of our cars at least 10 years. This was a "new" car for us. MBUSA said they could do nothing because I own the car and didn't get financing from them. My dealership so far is not helpful. My service guy (he has been for 10 years) says this is common?? My client (a different car manufacturer) says it is not and it is terrible. I don't know why it rusted but this is a defect in the car because we didn't flood it. It's dangerous.

Rear subframe of vehicle is starting to become rotted/rusted out and may fall apart at any time. My Mother has the same body style car as me (2011 c300) & she was recently driving at around 60mph and all of the sudden, went to step on the brakes and the car swerved across the highway uncontrollably. She took it to a mechanic who said the car is not drivable and showed me how badly the subframe was destroyed. This is due to a Mercedes Benz manufacturing issue where they tried cost cutting which turned out very poor quality materials for this very important assembly. My car only has ~55,000 miles and is just about 8 years of age. This issue should never happen for a vehicle with such low miles and such a short life, especially from a prominent and distinguished automotive company. This is a Huge Safety Concern, and I am Scared that this subframe will fail without warning and at a high speed, which can likely cause me to be involved in a major accident where people are killed or seriously injured. I would even consider getting rid of this car, which would be unfortunate since it is gorgeous and seems almost brand new, although I cannot afford to sell this & buy another car at this time. I have researched online about this problem, and turns out, it is Very Common with this body style c300 ('08 - '14). There are hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals within the USA who are having this exact same issue with as little as 60,000 miles. Most are happening around the 90,000 mile mark however. They primarily mention in many online forums how scared they were when it happened and how lucky they are it didn’t cause a major accident…yet. It is astonishing how this subframe was not recalled by now and how Mercedes USA has not taken responsibility for this. This issue needs to be addressed and recalled Immediately before people are killed or seriously injured, and before more of these parts break. Failed component: The subframe on my Mercedes C300 broke on one side and was almost broken on the other. It would be available for inspection as it is sitting in the Mercedes dealer bone yard waiting on the part to be shipped from Germany around September 17th. It also ruined my back tires & now I have to replace them too. I understand that in the UK the Mercedes dealers are fixing this problem free of charge but there seems to be no recalls! Safety: I was entering the freeway on a rainy afternoon. My car was fishtailing very badly. At first I thought is was the highway itself as we had not had rain for quite some time. I tried to accelerate 4 or 5 times with the same fishtailing. I pulled off the busy freeway onto the shoulder & sat for a few minutes to collect my thoughts as I didn't know what was wrong. Then I drove very slowing to the next exit & a few more miles home. I drove very slowly a few miles the next morning to the Mercedes dealership. Inspected: The Mercedes dealer told me the subframe was broken and the car was not drivable! Couldn't find the part in the US so ordered from Germany with at least more than a month to wait. Warnings: There were absolutely no warning lights what so ever! Additional: The dealership did not have any loaner cars. I went for 5 days without a car to drive. I finally purchased another vehicle as I depend on it to do my job. It is going to cost over $4,400 to fix.
INSIDE HANDLE DOOR left broke 2019 and right broke 8/10/2022, Senior people is hard to open a broken door and if an accident will happen they can not came out of the car. We took the car to Mercedes Benz dealer and they want to charge to fix it. We took to independent mechanic the 1st time on 2019 and they charge us like $1,000. The Cam Shaft and the boost pressure need to be replaced immediately. I took my car to a Mercedes Benz dealership in Long Island, NY for a regular oil change (nothing was wrong with my car when it went in for the oil change). When they gave me back my car I literally got 1 and half blocks from the dealership and my car was jerking violently and the check engine light came on and has not gone off since that day. I took the car right back to the dealership and of course they are saying they did nothing to make this happen and are refusing to cover the repairs for the Cam Shaft and boost pressure to make my car run correctly again. This is a dangerous car to drive now because due to this same problem the car has random issues accelerating and has put me in dangerous situations while driving on the highway and on the street. The interesting part is Mercedes Benz knows that this is a serious issue with this car because I was told that by the people that work at the dealership that Mercedes is covering the full repairs for what my car is going through but they are only doing it for people who's cars are under 120,000 miles. My car is at 133,000 miles and they are refusing to cover the repairs for me. My complaint number with Mercedes Benz customer service is 2-29420067413. They are not being helpful because they told me that every Mercedes dealership in the United States is independently owned besides the one in Manhattan NY. They are telling me that even though they are the manufacturer each dealership makes their own decisions. This is absolutely absurd and my car is dangerous to drive at this point. They want $5,000 and counting from me to repair my car for something that they messed up on and that they know is a known issue. Please help me get this resolved. Thank You

My 2014 Mercedes C300 4matic currently has a rusted through rear subframe. I know this has been reported to your Bureau numerous times by various people. This affects all 2008-2014 C Class and E Class Mercedes (as I used to work for a Mercedes dealer). Mercedes is trying to avoid liability at the sheer cost and man hours required to replace these parts. This is a MAJOR safety hazard, and has caused numerous drivers to lose control of their vehicle when they do in fact break off at one of the weld joints. The car is 8 years old with approximately 90k miles. This is a STRUCTURAL part of the car, and should never have to be replaced. Subaru dealt with suspension recalls on their vehicles, and I believe Mercedes should be reliable as well. Thousands of these cars are a ticking time bombs on the road. This issue was confirmed by my personal mechanic, and he stated this will not pass the next inspection (luckily I have 6 months left).
Parked the car, did something, came back and car did not start. Key in, no crank, no start, no steering. No lights on the dash, no gear shifting, can’t roll the windows up. All out of nowhere. Think it’s a problem with the Electronic Steering Lock.
While parked and locked the cars trunk will randomly open on its own. It has happened at home, work, other parking lots. I will check and make sure it’s closed and I will come bs k to the trunk open.
My Mercedes started smoking from within the cabin. I traced it down to the speaker in the car. I contacted the Mercedes dealership and told them that my speaker was burning and smoking. The service advisor knew exactly the problem and said that the factory amplifier went bad and is causing an electrical issue in the car. He had seen this before. However, Mercedes is not considering a safety issue nor doing a recall. However, I was told I should not drive the car and have it towed. So, if my car can catch fire while driving from a faulty amplifier, that would be a safety issue. I was told this would be an out of pocket expense.
This car has 63,792 miles on it and has been continuously garaged and well cared for. All maintenance has been done timely and by Mercedes-Benz of Tysons Corner (Virginia) since it was purchased there on 01/08/14. All required maintenance was completed as advised and the car was covered under a 7 year 75,000 mile warranty. At the recent regularly scheduled yearly maintenance service completed on 12/28/21 we were advised that the that the "rear sub-frame is beginning to rust through and has a hole on the right rear (RR) and the recommendation was the "replacement of rear sub-frame soon" at an estimated cost of $4,242.40. This car has never been in an accident. In speaking to the MB service representative about this issue, I was advised that this problem has happened to several C300's from the period 2009-2014 and that Mercedes Benz was not accepting any responsibility for the issue in the US but had issued recalls in other countries. He said Mercedes maintains that it is a "wear and tear" issue. This car has not been abused and has been well maintained. This is not an area of the country where you would expect to see this type of corrosion unless the part was defective in some manner. In researching the problem on the internet, several people write about experiencing a failure of this part although the cars were older than ours and had more mileage on them. It appears to be a safety issue should the part rust through as it could puncture the gas tank or cause the rear wheels to buckle or cause a loss of control of the auto from the auto fishtailing. I have never seen this happen to a car before and I am 75 years old and have owned a number of automobiles over the years.

The wheel is not tilting up or down. It's stuck I. Top. It will just go out and in but stuck in the top position. This is a safety issue especially with airbags. The problem have been reported to dealers . It's a defective system

Additionally, while using the left turn signal there was an abnormal clicking noise detected. The check left turn signal, driver’s side low beam, running lights and driver’s side parking light message was displayed. Additionally, while driving at night on another occasion, the passenger’s side headlight became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the gasket had deteriorated, and moisture was in the headlamps. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000. The VIN was not available.
I was trying to merge onto a freeway from a complete stop and because this freeway has an extremely short on-ramp, you need to get up to a high speed in very little time. As such, I put my car in Sport driving mode and accelerated very hard from a complete stop. The car accelerated as normal for a few seconds (I reached approximately 40 to 50 MPH), then I felt the car lag and felt a loss of power. The car was in limp mode and I couldn’t accelerate even though I was pressing the gas pedal all the way to the floor. A few seconds after this occurred, I notice that the check engine light turned on. I was able to maintain a speed around 50 MPH and got off the freeway. I took my car to both the Mercedes dealership and an independent mechanic and both diagnosed a failure of the high pressure fuel pump. I also tried to see if this will happen again and after hard acceleration in regular driving mode, the exact same issues occurred. I have read that there are issues with the high pressure fuel pump with my car model and I ask that you guys please investigate thoroughly to see if a recall would be necessary. Losing power while accelerating is extremely dangerous and a huge safety hazard for all drivers on the road. I could have easily been rear ended by another driver since I couldn’t accelerate to a faster speed. I have not yet replaced the high pressure fuel pump but plan to do so in the next few days. Attached is the diagnostic invoice from the Mercedes dealership. As stated on the invoice, please note that my car only has 43,000 miles, which makes the high pressure fuel pump failure very surprising.

As a result, excessive force was applied to the brake pedal in order to slow down the vehicle. Due to the failure, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the barrier wall and the metal fence. No air bags were deployed. The contact's daughter sustained a fractured nose, lip laceration, and other unknown facial injuries due to the driver hitting the steering wheel during the impact. The current vehicle I have, is suppose to have a back up camera as part of being the basic standard for a 2014 C- class mercedes Benz. Ive asked the place I bought he car from and also Ed hicks imports, who also legally sells mercedes Benz in Corpus Christi, to install one, especially because according to the vin reports I bought, it was initially on the vehicle. I was even willing to pay them to install a factory made original MB backup camera that should’ve been there in the first place but they tell me to go buy an aftermarket! After further research, it turns out mercedes Benz makes all their cars with backup cameras or the PARKTRONIC option which is added sensors !!! Before my car was even brought over to the USA in 2014! Yes, all of these issues have been confirmed by another dealer, which is auto nation here!!!! Besides that, Ed hicks imports supposedly fixed two factory recalls with my car, where one was if the airbag on the passenger front side goes off, it would kill or harm, myself, and any occupants in the vehicle due to the metal fragments that would also burst and pierce, or exit through our bodies. However, my airbag notification comes on every time someone is in the front passenger seat as a warning, as well as my own driver side airbag that just started coming up when I turn on my vehicle. The steering is not fully mounted straight either, so it’s causing me a ton of gas to get to the closest places in town, as well as having me turn the wheel twice as much as I normally would need to on a car with a steering wheel properly mounted, which makes the time for me to finally turn my vehicle at any given time to turn a lot slower than other drivers around me. The last thing is the body of my vehicle not be big properly aligned, I did not know the car had been in ANY accidents, and recently discovered it’s been in 7 !!!so it makes sense why the whole chassis resembles a Chopshop car All of these parts of my vehicle are available for inspection

On 5/15/2021, I was driving in Phoenix, AZ at about 35-40mph and heard a large bang. Was not sure what happened. Struck nothing. It was dark. The next morning I came out and noticed that the glass panel in front of my panoramic sun roof had completely shattered with a long horizontal fissure. I went to the nearest dealership and was told he has seen this happen before. I asked if it was safe to drive 4.5hrs back to my home city, Las Vegas. He said yes. When I got back I called my MB service representative, described what happened and he said there is a recall coming up 5/21/2021 for that problem. I looked it up online and it is for 2015 C-Class forward. However, my 2014 MB AMG C63 coupe is the exact same model as the 2015 MB AMG C63 coupe. So I’m questioning why my vehicle is not included?
MY VEHICLE LOSSES POWER AND CAR MOVED INTO (LIMP MODE) DURING THE ACCELERATION PROCESS FOR PASSING, MERGING ONTO FREEWAY, COMING OUT OF A CORNER AND ACCELERATING. UPON DEALER DIAGNOSIS P0002 COMES UP AS HPFP AS THE CAUSE, AND I WAS NOTIFIED AS THIS BEING A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 1.8L MOTOR IN MY VEHICLE. ALONG WITH TIMING CHAIN, AND TENSIONER. I WAS TOLD THESE ISSUES WHILE DRIVING ARE DIRECTLY RELATED TO CAUSES ACCIDENTS.
WHILE DRIVING ON 95 HIGHWAY TAKING AN EXIT ( MAKING A RIGHT TURN ROUNDABOUT) THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME PREVENTING ME FROM CONTINUING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE EXIT CAUSING ME TO ALMOST CRASH INTO THE METAL RAILINGS; BECAUSE MY WHEELS NOW WHERE LOCKED IN A POSITION THAT WOULD FORCE ME TO CRASH INTO THE RAILINGS HAD I NOT STOPPED. I STOPPED AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART FOR THE STEERING WHEEL AND SYSTEM TO RESET AND UNLOCK. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AROUND 2018 OR 2019. I NOTIFIED MERCEDES OF WHAT HAPPENED AND I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF A RECALL ON THE STEERING. I HAD THE RECALL CHECKED ON MY VEHICLE AND THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED. IT IS A DEALER ONLY PART AND COSTS $960 PLUS $300 FOR INSTALLATION. THE COST OF THIS GLASS PANEL IS EXTREMELY HIGH. BOTH TIMES THIS GLASS PANEL SHATTERED, NOTHING HIT IT. TAKATA RECALL..THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ISSUED SINCE 2017 FOR THE DRIVER AIRBAG BUT REMEDY HAS BEEN DONE..THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING..

TAKETA RECALL. I RECEIVED A LETTER ON MARCH, 2019 FROM MERCEDES BENZ, USA TO NOTIFY ME OF THIS RECALL. ON 4/24/19, I CALLED THE CORAL GABLES MERCEDES DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE NOT IN AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVE. AT HTTPS://WWW.MBUSA.COM/MERCEDES/RECALL, THE STATUS INDICATES THAT THE PARTS ARE STILL NOT IN. SINCE THIS IS A DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, HOW CAN IT TAKE MONTHS FOR THE PARTS TO BE AVAILABLE AND FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED?
THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. DASH BOARD DISPLAYS LEFT AIRBAG MALFUNCTION, HORN NO LONGER WORKS, DISPLAY CAN NOT BE CLEARED. STEERING MAKE LOTS OF OF CLICKING SOUND WHEN TURNED ON EITHER DIRECTION. TOOK THE CAR TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE INITIAL RESPONSE WAS THAT THE STEERING MODULE FAILED AND MY ASSESSMENT WAS IT IS PROBABLY DUE TO RECALL NO GROUND WIRE RECALL NUMBER 17V627000.. UPON FURTHER INQUIRY THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING MODULE BROKE AND CAME APART. I SUSPECT THIS EITHER DUE TO DEFECTIVE STEERING MODULE OR RECALL # 17V252000 STEERING BOLT. I HAD COMMUNICATED THIS ISSUE TO MBUSA VIA EMAILS AND SEVERAL PHONE CALLS. THEY STILL HAVEN'T AGREED TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. AFTER SEVERAL CALLS TO THE DEALER, THEY FINALLY SHARED THE PICTURE OF THE STEERING MODULE AS YOU CAN SEE IT ATTACHED. OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 MERCEDES-BENZ C350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15-30 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNAWARE OF HOW HIS FOOT ENDED UP UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN INVOLVED IN A FOUR VEHICLE COLLISION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALONG WITH HIS WIFE WHO WAS IN THE CAR AT THE TIME, SHE WAS INJURED ALONG WITH ONE OTHER OCCUPANT OF ONE OF THE OTHER VEHICLES. IT WAS UNKNOWN WHERE THE WIFE WAS SEATED. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS SOUGHT SEVERAL DAYS AFTER THE COLLISION BY THE CONTACT AND HIS SPOUSE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING LOT. AAA WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE DATA FROM THE VEHICLE DATA RECORDER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A COMPREHENSIVE REPORT COULD BE ATTAINED BY EQUIPMENT THAT ONLY THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER POSSESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSTIC CHECK OR INSPECTION PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,366. *JS
IN JUNE OF 2018 WE HAD TO HAVE CAM SHAFT WORK DONE ON OUR CAR WHICH WAS SLIGHTLY OVER THE MANUFACTURE WARRANTY. THIS TOOK TWO TRIPS TO THE SHOP AND ABOUT $10,000 IN REPAIRS BECAUSE THE ONE SIDE FAILED THEN WITHIN A FEW WEEKS THE OTHER SIDE FAILED. I HAVE READ ON THE WEB MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND IT BEGINS RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY GOES OUT. NOW THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TIMING CHAIN WHICH I READ SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED WHEN THE CAM SHAFT WORK WAS DONE. ALL THESE ISSUES WITH THE SAME MODEL AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. MERCEDES TOLD US IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE C250 AND IT WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO BE DONE AGAIN AFTER ANOTHER 50,000 MILES. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IF THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WHY THEY HAVE NOT CORRECTED IT. IT COSTS ABOUT $5000 EACH TIME!
CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON THE COURTNEY CAMPBELL CAUSEWAY HIGHWAY, ON A STRAIGHTAWAY, THAT CONNECTS CLEARWATER TO TAMPA, FLORIDA. SUDDENLY THE (CLOSED) SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED, CAUSING A VERY LOUD NOISE AND SHATTERED GLASS TO FALL DOWN INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. MY WIFE, WHO WAS DRIVING MANAGED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. GIVEN THE CAR'S SPEED AND SURROUNDING TRAFFIC (MORNING RUSH HOUR) IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THAT THE SUNROOF EXPLOSION DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND ARRIVED ON SCENE. NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED, AS THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT AND NO INJURY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO MERCEDES BENZ OF TAMPA BAY. THEY TOOK PICTURES AND GAVE US A LOANER CAR AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD MAKE A DETERMINATION AS TO WHO WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 5/1/2019 AT ROUGHLY 7:45 AM. IT WAS NOT UNTIL FRIDAY, 5/3/2019 THAT WE HEARD FROM THE SERVICE CONSULTANT, INDICATING THAT THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEREFORE THE REPAIR WAS OUR RESPONSIBILITY. IT TOOK THE DEALERSHIP OVER 2.5 DAYS TO MAKE THAT DETERMINATION ... SEEMS LIKE THAT DETERMINATION COULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN ABOUT 5 MINUTES. COULD IT BE THAT MERCEDES BENZ USA WAS INVOLVED IN EVALUATING THE RESULTING LIABILITY IF THEY WERE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY? GIVEN THAT THERE WAS NO IDENTIFIABLE CAUSE FOR THE EXPLODING SUNROOF, IT IS EVIDENT TO ME THAT IT'S A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, AND YET MERCEDES BENZ ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY. A COST TO REPAIR/REPLACE THE SUNROOF GLASS WAS PROVIDED VERBALLY (OVER $1,700.00). THIS SPONTANEOUS EXPLOSION OF A SUNROOF IS APPARENTLY SOMETHING THAT HAS OCCURRED IN THE PAST WITH MERCEDES BENZ, AS WELL AS OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS. THIS COULD HAVE A CATASTROPHIC OUTCOME ... ANY TIME IT HAPPENS.

MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO CLICK WHEN I TURNED IT, DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT. I WAS RECENTLY PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND MY STEERING WHEEL MADE A LOUD POP AND GOT STUCK, THEN A LOUD CRACK AGAIN AND STARTED TO WORK. IT STILL CLICKS AND NOW MY PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON PERMANENTLY. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN OXNARD AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE 175 TO CHECK ABOUT THE AIRBAGS EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL. THEY ALSO SAID THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS NEEDED TO MY STEERING WHEEL. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL DRIVING THIS CAR. THE HORN DOESN'T WORK AND NEITHER DO ANY OF THE BUTTONS ON MY STEERING WHEEL.

THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. FLAMES APPROXIMATELY SEVEN FEET HIGH POURED OUT FROM THE HOOD AND ENGULFED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. I WAS STOPPED IN FRONT OF MY GARAGE (WAITING FOR THE DOOR TO GO UP). WHEN I LIGHTLY PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO PULL IN, THE ENGINE ROARED AND THE CAR SUDDENLY LEAPED FORWARD AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED, GOING THRU MY DETACHED GARAGE WALL. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK AND I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO STOP. I HAVE PULLED INTO THIS GARAGE THOUSANDS OF TIMES AND KNEW THIS WAS THE CAR. SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES COULD NOT STOP THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS ACCELERATING TOO QUICKLY. HITTING THE BRICK FACADE OF THE CONDOMINIUM, BEYOND THE DETACHED GARAGE WAS THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE CAR. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, WHICH I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD HAVE BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT. EVEN THOUGH I ONLY TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET, THE CAR ACCELERATED SO QUICKLY, IT TOTALED THE CAR. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL AS OF NOVEMBER 2017, FOR A STEERING COLUMN ISSUE, WHICH INCLUDES IMPROPERLY GROUNDED COMPONENTS AND THE STEERING COLUMN CLOCK SPRING BEING BROKEN ISSUE RELATED TO THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE TIRED SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP STILL DOES NOT HAVE THE PART. PER THE DEALERSHIP AND MERCEDES, I WAS ADVICED I WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER WHEN IT WAS AVAILABLE. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED AND HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT SINCE THIS IS THE THIRD RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. I BELIEVE IT HAD TO BE SOMETHING WITH EITHER THE ACCELERATOR AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGING. IT WAS ALMOST LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL QUICKED IN. SINCE IT IS UNDER RECALL FOR THE STEERING WHEEL RELATED ISSUE, I DON'T KNOW IF IT AFFECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN.

I HAD 2 SPIRAL METACARPAL FRACTURES IN MY LEFT HAND FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL THAT REQUIRED SURGICAL PLACEMENT OF TWO PLATES AND 12 SCREWS, AND MY KNEES HIT THE DASH BOARD, MY RIGHT HIP BRUISED FROM SEATBELT,I SPRAINED NECK AND BACK AND PARTIALLY TORN LEFT ROTATOR CUFF. ALL OF THE OTHER DRIVERS AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND SHE WALKED AWAY FROM THE ACCIDENT. NOT ONE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.I WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM VIA AMBULANCE FROM THE SCENE. MY LEFT PANT LEG WAS CUT BY PARAMEDICS TO SEE MY KNEE THAT HAD OBVIOUS BRUISING AND SWELLING. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER NEVER PROVIDED ONE. I LOOKED UP ON-LINE REGARDING THE RECALL AND DISCOVERED MY CAR IS AFFECTED. I HAD SCHEDULED SERVICES AT THE DENVER MERCEDES DEALERSHIP ON 12/28/17 AND TOOK IN THE DOCUMENTATION I HAD RECEIVED/DISCOVERED ON-LINE AND ASKED MY SERVICE REP ABOUT IT. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE INSISTED MY CAR WAS NOT RECALLED. SHE WAS RUDE AND JUST KEPT SAYING IT WAS NOT RECALLED. BTW, THIS HAPPENED OCTOBER 25, 2017. THE DROP DOWN BELOW WOULD ONLY LET ME ENTER OCTOBER 24 OR BEFORE.
I WAS DRIVING ON GLADES ROAD, BOCA RATON, FL. I HEARD A LOUD NOISE, SAW SMOKE AND LOST MY POWER STEERING. I MANAGED TO PULL INTO TOWN CENTER MALL, GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND SAW THAT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. THE BOCA RATON POLICE CAME, #5 FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MERCEDES OF DELRAY.
STATIONARY VEHICLE'S DOOR LATCH STOPPED WORKING WHILE TRYING TO EXIT THE CAR. THE LATCH IS LOOSELY MOVING AROUND WITH NO CONNECTION TO THE DOOR LOCK WHATSOEVER.
I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, GOT OFF ONTO A SIDE ROAD AND WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT WHILE BRAKING: MY CAR COMPLETELY DIED (WHILE IN DRIVE). THE MOTOR SHUT OFF, THE ELECTRICAL DASH SYSTEM LIGHTS ALL WENT OFF AND THE HAZARD TRIANGLE SYSTEM CAME ON (WITH THE SYMBOL OF AN EXCLAMATION MARK(!) INSIDE THE TRIANGLE). AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE AND A HALF, I PUT IT IN PARK, AND IT RESTARTED. SCARY! I HAD A FULL TANK OF GAS.
WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR INTAKE IS COVERED WITH SNOW OR ICE IT WILL NOT ALLOW OUTSIDE AIR INTO THE HVAC SYSTEM. THIS CAUSES THE FRONT WINDOW DEFROSTER TO NOT BE ABLE TO BLOW AIR ON THE WINDSHIELD TO CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW ON BEHALF OF MERCEDES BENZ. IF HOT WATER IS POURED OVER THE OUTSIDE AIR INTAKE SCREEN THE BLOWER WILL OPERATE PROPERLY, BLOWING HOT AIR TO DEFROST THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. ONLY HAPPENS IF THE CAR IS OUTSIDE WITH SNOW OR ICE BUILDUP TO BLOCK AIRFLOW INTO THE HVAC SYSTEM. DEFROSTER WILL WORK PROPERLY IF NO SNOW OR ICE IS COVERING THE AREA.
THOUGH I APPEAR TO HAVE MANAGED ONLY MINIMAL INJURY IN THE RANDOM MALFUNCTIONING DEPLOYMENT OF MY STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG WITHOUT BEING INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR COLLISION, I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY MY CAR'S AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY WHILE I WAS DRIVING 50, 60 OR 70 MPH. I WAS ACTUALLY PARKED WHEN THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. KEYS WERE IN THE IGNITION AS WELL. EVEN IF THE CAR IS REPAIRED, IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN AND EVEN LEAD TO FATALITIES OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND OTHER ADJACENT VEHICLES' PASSENGERS ON THE ROAD. MY WIFE PERSONALLY DOESN'T WANT TO RIDE IN THAT CAR KNOWING THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I DID A LITTLE INVESTIGATING AND I FOUND THAT MERCEDES-BENZ HAS A RECENT HISTORY OF THESE ISSUES. IT SEEM AS THOUGHT THE SMOKEY SMELL IS COMING FROM THE INSIDE BUT AFTER OPENING THE DRIVERSIDE DOOR THE BURNING SMELL IS COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. ON YESTERDAY, MONDAY, FOUR DAYS SINCE I FIRST SMELL OF SMOKE, WHICH IS CONSISTENT NOW AND LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC WHO SAID RUNNING OVER A PLASTIC BAG IS THE POSSIBLE PROBLEM. SOUNDED LOGICAL UNTIL A FEW HOURS LATER AFTER A 25 MILE HIGHWAY RUN AT 70+MPH THE CAR WAS SHAKING AND STUGGLING TO STAY ON. THE SMOKEY SMELL WAS ELEVATED AND THE POWERTRAIN LIGHT WAS ON. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY AND THE TRUNK WAS OPENED WHEN THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE WINDOW WAS NOT STRUCK. THIS OCCURRED AFTER A 200 MILE HIGHWAY TRIP WITH NO ISSUES. OBVIOUSLY, IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFICULT SITUATION.
RANDOM ENGINE STALL INVOLVING TURBO AND INTERCOOLER: WE PURCHASED THIS 2014 C250 WITH ROUGHLY 8,000 MILES FROM NEARBY MB DEALER. WE HAVE ENJOYED THE CAR IMMENSELY, EXCEPTION THIS VERY SERIOUS "DEFECT" WITH THE ENGINE. OBSERVED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THIS PROBLEM IS VERY SERIOUS AND COULD LEAD TO POTENTIAL COLLISION WHILE PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE, BECAUSE THE ENGINE "STALLS" UNDER INTENSE ACCELERATION RANDOMLY, LEAVING ONLY ONE CYLINDER WORKING. WITH THIS ONE REMAINING CYLINDER, THE CAR CAN BARELY BE OPERATED, SHAKING ETC., BUT CAN BE MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD IF POSSIBLE IN TRAFFIC, SHUT OFF, AND RE-STARTED WITHOUT ANY AFTER-AFFECTS. WE TOOK TO THE DEALER TWICE, AND BOTH TIMES THE MB DEALER ADMITS THERE IS A VERY REAL PROBLEM WITH, ALLEGEDLY, THE "INTERCOOLER," AND THAT "ALL C250 ENGINES HAVE THIS SAME POTENTIAL PROBLEM," AND FURTHERMORE, MERCEDES DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A SOLUTION OR FIX, BUT IS WORKING ON IT. NOTE: IT'S BEEN SIX MONTHS SINCE I REPORTED MY INITIAL PROBLEM AND HAD IT RECORDED (FILED AT THE DEALER). THE CAR COMPUTER DOES INDICATE THE PROBLEM EXISTS, AND RECORDS EACH INCIDENT. PROBLEM: MB DOES NOT HAVE A SOLUTION CURRENTLY. THIS SAME SCENARIO HAS OCCURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT, AND WHILE MOTOR WAS NOT EVEN HEAVILY STRESSED AS THE INITIAL INCIDENT.

I HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT ONCE SO FAR AND WHEN I LET MY BROTHER USE THE CAR HE WAS ALMOST HIT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN BECAUSE OF THE RANDOM POWER LOSS. I HAVE CONTACTED MBUSA AND SPOKE WITH SOMEONE NAMED JUAN. I CONTINUED TO CALL HIM ANS TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER EVERYTIME IT HAPPENED EXPRESSING MY CONCERNS ABIUT THE CAR AS WELL AS SAFETY. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TRAFFIC LIGHT POLE. THE CONTACT SUFFERED LACERATIONS TO THE HEAD, MUSCLE DAMAGE TO THE LEGS, AND A FRACTURE ON THE EYE SOCKET. THE CONTACT RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON I-10 EASTBOUND AT APPROXIMATELY MILE MARKER 180 TO 182, WHEN I MADE A LANE CHANGE TO LET A FASTER MOVING VEHICLE PASS ME. I WENT FROM THE LEFT TO RIGHT LANE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 70 OR 75 MPH, (SPEED LIMIT ON I-10 IS 75 MPH). UPON ENTERING THE RIGHT LANE I SAW A TRACTOR TRAILER BRAKE LIGHTS, AND I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKE IN MY C 250, AND IT CAUSED THE CAR WHEELS TO LOCKED UP, WHICH ALSO CAUSED THE CAR TO SKID, AND SWERVE THE BACK END. THE C 250 DID SLOW DOWN SOME, BUT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER THE C 250 IMPACTED THE REAR BUMPER OF THE TRAILER ATTACHED ON THE TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK. THE C 250 SLIDE APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET, THERE WERE TIRE TRACKS ON THE PAVEMENT, WHICH SHOWS THE TIRES LOCKED UP. THE REAR ENDED OF THE CAR ALSO SWERVED, AND IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE THE C 250 WAS SLOWING DOWN, ONCE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THERE WAS ALSO SOME SKIPPING OF THE TIRES. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT WAS LATE, AND CAUSED ME TO IMPACT THE WINDSHIELD WITH MY HEAD. THERE IS ALSO A HOLE IN THE AIRBAG THAT IS BIGGER THEN A SILVER DOLLAR, WHICH SHOWS SIGN OF TEARING AND FRAYING. THE SEAT-BELT DETACHED AT IMPACT WHICH FORCED ME FORWARD AND DIDN'T RESTRAIN ME FROM ME HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL AND WINDSHIELD. *TR
DRIVING ON A FOUR-LANE STREET (TWO LANES ON EACH SIDE) WITH MY TWO KIDS. THE 2014 C250 HAD A MALFUNCTION WITH THE ELECTRIC STEERING: AUTOMATICALLY JERKING THE CAR TO THE RIGHT. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND HIT THE CURB. IT FELT LIKE WE WENT AIRBORNE. I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT TO TRY TO STABILIZE THE CAR, QUICKLY REALIZING THERE WAS TRUCK TO THE LEFT I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING THE TRUCK. THIS CAUSED ME TO HIT THE CURB AGAIN. IT ALL HAPPENED SO FAST IT WAS HARD TO STABILIZE THE CAR. MERCEDES-BENZ (EXPRESSED AS MBUSA) HAD MY CAR FOR OVER A MONTH. IN THEIR INCIDENT QUESTIONNAIRE THEY ASKED TO GRANT PERMISSION TO IMAGE THE DATA CONTAINED IN THE VEHICLE'S EVENT DATA RECORDER (EDR). I SENT THE QUESTIONNAIRE TO MY INSURANCE, AND WE DIDN'T NOT GRANT MBUSA PERMISSION AS THE LESSEE. MBUSA BROKE THE LAW AND WENT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND IMAGED THE DATA. THAN CAME BACK AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE DAMAGE, AS THE EDR STATED THAT I HIT THE CURB. MBUSA EXPRESSED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THEIR MALFUNCTION. I ASKED FOR A COPY OF THE RECORDED CONVERSATION AND I WANT THE REPORT. IT WAS EXPRESSED BY MBUSA THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GET A COURT SUBPOENA FOR THEM TO GIVE ME THE INFORMATION. I CALLED A ATTORNEY AND THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW; AND IS ALL TACTICS/STRATEGIES ON MBUSA PART TO NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THEY WOULD BY LAW HAVE TO REPORT IT TO NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA). ALL I WANTED WAS TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE, AND FOR MBUSA TO TAKE THE CAR BACK AS IT WAS AROUND 3 MONTHS OLD WHEN THE ACCIDENT ACCUSED.
