The contact informed the dealer that the sunroof had not been used in 10 years. In addition, the contact informed the dealer of an issue while attempting to close the sunroof ten years ago. The vehicle was not inspected, and the dealer declined the recall repair. The contact was informed that if the recall repair was performed and the sunroof fractured, the vehicle owner would be responsible for the repair. The contact was unsure if the previous sunroof issue was with the vehicle or a previous vehicle that the contact had owned. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to an alternate dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable.

My car displayed all of the issues listed below for the Electrical system recall. The fuel gague went "blank", other gagues acting irradical, the check engine light stay on, etc. My car make and model fall under this recall but have been excluded. I had to pay out of pocket $4678.50 to replace the entire fuel tank due to this and the Manufacture (Mercedes Benz) is refusing to reimburse me. (1) THE FUEL GAUGE READINGS MAY BE INCORRECT; (2) A STUCK FUEL-LEVEL SENSOR MAY NOT BE DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER; (3) THE OBD SYSTEM MAY CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE INCORRECTLY; AND, (4) THE SPEEDOMETER MAY BE OUT OF TOLERANCE. IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE ELECTRICAL FUEL PUMP MAY NOT RECEIVE A CRASH SIGNAL THAT IS REQUIRED FOR THE FUEL PUMP TO DISCONNECT AND PREVENT FUTURE FUEL DELIVERY AS DESIGNED.

2008 MercedesE350 (W211) Driver’s seat heater, ~11:48am Location: Lidl Parking Lot, 2017 St. Joseph’s Dr., Bowie/Upper Marlboro, MD While I was sitting in the driver’s seat with my back fully against it, the seat heater burned through the leather on the left side of the seat. The cabin immediately filled with smoke. The burning stopped only after I turned off the seat‑heater button. I was inside the vehicle during the failure, and the situation created a direct fire hazard; the seat could have ignited, and I could have caught fire. I don’t know if the passenger seat heater is also affected, so passengers cannot safely use their seat warmer. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms pre failure. Evidence Available: Video/photo of the aftermath (burned seat left‑side damage), the vehicle and damaged seat are available for inspection. Smoke in video/photo. Has the Problem Been Reproduced or Confirmed?: I’ve not attempted to reproduce the problem for safety reasons, and it has not yet been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, publicly available information shows Mercedes previously settled a $54 million class action for the same seat‑heater defect in model years prior to 2008. My 2008 model was not included despite experiencing the same dangerous failure. Mercedes is aware this is a known issue.Has the Vehicle Been Inspected?: A dealership inspection at Mercedes‑Benz of Alexandria scheduled 12/23/23 at 11:00 a.m. Warning Lamps or Prior Symptoms: None. Safety Risk Summary: This defect created immediate danger to my safety. The heater burned through the seat while I was sitting in it, filling cabin with smoke and creating a risk of burn injury and the possibility that I could have caught fire. The defect may also endanger passengers if both seats are affected. Broader Concern: Prevent others from experiencing defect, causing serious injury/vehicle fire. The trunk safety release inside the trunk will not open the trunk. It is an electrical switch and not a cable pull release. If you get in the trunk and the battery is low, you cannot get out. There is not a passage between the rear seat and the trunk. There is not a manual release for the trunk. The only way to get inside is cutting through the trunk lid or deck.

The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the VIN was not included in the recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

This is a PZEV vehicle. When the car is filled over 3/4th of the way, the driver's side near the back tire starts to leak the fuel. There was no warning lights, just the smell and the leaks. It's obvious why this is a safety hazard. This was not inspected by anyone other than myself as it was quite obvious after removing the back seat and accessing the sending unit location. This started after I resolved a fuel pump issue (back in March, resolved this month) Mercedes refused to handle ($3k) and noticed on or around 9/24/24.

I managed to contact AAA and had the vehicle towed to my home because it around 6pm and auto repair shops were closed. I filled the vehicle up with gas and it started smelling very strong of gas for the next two weeks and I discovered gas underneath the driver's rear seat... I cleaned up the gas but continued to smell strong fuel Vapors and I'm just below three quarters of a tank the 15-year warranty is over. The Mercedes dealer says that they can't do anything for free and I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be rectified before someone dies in an explosion... no warning lights showed up but it is a common problem on the E-Class due to a cracked fuel filter housing module.

My car has smelled like gas for the past few years. Also it has not past inspection for the past 2 years. Mercedes said it was due to a defective intake manifold. Paid to replace the intake manifold and Mercedes said 2 new codes appeared. Now the gas tank, fuel pumps, brackets and hoses need to be replaced at a cost of of over 3500. The fuel pumps were replaced in 2014. Not sure why I continue to have problems with fuel pumps and now gas tank. Was informed this year after replacing the intake manifold that there was an extended warranty that concluded December 2022. I think Mercedes should resolve this as other vehicles had this same safety issue.

Very strong gas smell both inside and outside of the car with check engine light on. This happened in May of 2022. Could not park the car inside the garage. Contacted MBUSA, they said there is an extended warranty for this vehicle for this problem, advised me to take it to Mercedes dealer. I took the car to the dealer. They checked it out and said it is not covered under the extended warranty because it has passed the mileage ceiling for PZEV which I do not know what PZEV is. I checked The NHTSA website, it says 15 years unlimited miles. I had no other choice but to fix the car at the dealer and pay for the cost. A few months later MBUSA sent me a letter telling me although it has passed the mileage I might be eligible for a refund and wanted me to file a claim at the dealership. I did and after over two months the dealer again told me it is not covered. I paid about $1100 for the repair and told MBUSA that the dealer does not honor what the MBUSA letter says. Now even MBUSA does not honor what they wrote me in their own letter. They say if my car was non PZEV it would have been covered? How was it my fault to have a PZEV vehicle? Why did Mercedes had PZEV and non PZEV? How is it the customer fault. Both vehicles have the same issue but why one is covered and the other is not? Please you be the judge.

The vehicle will intermittently go into limp mode with a max speed of 45mph. At a stop vehicle will not accelerate FWD unless transmission is put into park and the vehicle turned off and then re-started. Professional diagnosis suggests the transmission needs to be replaced and this is common for cars with 100k miles or more. Only a Mercedes Authorized Technician with a real time connection to a Mercedes Server can properly perform this task. This is a sub par design that creates a safety hazard. The repair procedure coupled with the frequency of this serious failure makes this vehicle a Lemon. Mercedes Benz Is Totally Responsible.

In the fall of 2021 the car started to received errors related to the ABS control unit that failed preventing 1) antilock braking, control of ESP (limiting poor handling), and cruise control. At the time of the failure, the car only had 31,552 miles and was properly maintained. MB has extended a warranty for several models and years...but even though my 2008 E-Class is not included in the warranty extension, several models (thru 2012) had their warranty extended for 25 years. I have not been able to get a answer why the E-Class after 2006 was excluded. The symptoms and parts diagnosed match the warranty 100%.

I drove a short distance and started to smell burning, and saw some smoke in the cabin. I immediately pulled over and shut down the car. I called my husband and when he arrived we discovered that my driver's seat back had burned through from the seat heater. I HAVE A 2008 MERCEDES E350 PZEV MODEL AND THE ISSUE I CAME ACROSS IS A MAJOR ONE. THESE MODELS IN PARTICULAR HAVE A BIG REPUTATION ON FAILING FUEL PUMPS, AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE ON THE PZEV VERSIONS IT CAN NOT BE FIXED UNLESS THE WHOLE FUEL TANKED IS SWAPPED WITH A NEW ONE. THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GAS TANK AND ITS SEALED JUST SO THERE'S NO WAY OF FIXING THE ISSUE, ON THE OTHER HAND THE NON-PZEV MODELS HAVE A REPLACEABLE PUMP WHICH REDUCES THE WORK AND MONEY TO FIX THE ISSUE. MERCEDES HAS AN APPLIED EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY FOR THE MODEL W211 WHICH COVERS THIS ISSUE UNTIL 15YEARS / UNLIMITED MILES FOR NON-PZEV MODELS AND 15YEARS / 150K MILES FOR PZEV MODELS. I SEE THIS VERY WRONG BECAUSE THE PZEV MODELS ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE TO FIX AND MANY PEOPLE ARE OVER THE 150K MILE MARK. THIS TERM SHOULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THE PZEV MODELS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR $3,200 BUT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IT IS OVER THAN $3,500. I AM REQUESTING MERCEDES TO HELP ME ON THIS SITUATION AS THESE CARS ARE WELL KNOW TO FAIL IN THAT DEPARTMENT. AS IT STANDS THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, IT RELEASES LOTS OF RAW GAS SMELL AND SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT START. THIS MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AS IT IS THE SAME ISSUE THAT MANY MB OWNERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PZEV MODEL TO A NON PZEV MODEL (ONLY IN THE SENSE OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH IS NOT IN ISSUE). THE COST IS OVER $3,000 TO FIX WHAT IS REALLY A DEFECTIVE AND UNSAFE PRODUCT. THE PART WHICH IS LEAKING FUEL IS A "LEFT SIDE FUEL LEVEL SENDER ASSEMBLY". THIS IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE GAS TANK. BASED UPON THE 9/4/14 EXTENDED WARRANTY LETTER FROM MB, THE NHTSA WAS SATISFIED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM. BUT WHAT MB WAS ABLE TO DO WAS TO LIMIT THE APPLICABILITY OF THE 9/4/14 EXTENDED WARRANTY TO ONLY NON-PZSEV VEHICLES WHICH I AM SURE ELIMINATED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES FROM THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. MOREOVER, THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE VEHICLE IS A PSEV VEHICLE (OTHER THAN WHAT MB HAS INTERNALLY). THE 9/4/14 EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD APPLY TO ALL E350 VEHICLES MODEL YEAR 2003-2009. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO EXCLUDE A VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS ALLEGEDLY A PZEV VEHICLE. IT IS THE SAME FUEL LEAK/ODOR ISSUE. DEALERSHIP WILL NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY AND THE CORPORATE OFFICE HAS DENIED WARRANTY COVERAGE. PLEASE REOPEN YOUR INVESTIGATION AND GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. FROM 2003 ' 2006 MERCEDES WAS INSTALLING 16 AND 17 INCH DIAMETER WHEELS ON THEIR E-CLASS MODELS. THESE TWO SIZES WOULD GIVE YOU A TIRE WITH A TALLER SIDEWALL FROM 3 TO 4 INCHES. BUT ON THE NEWER E-CLASS VEHICLES, MERCEDES STARTED TO USE AN 18' STAGGERED TIRE AND WHEEL COMBINATION. WHEN YOU INCREASE THE DIAMETER OF A WHEEL, THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE WILL DECREASE.THE 18 INCH WHEEL & TIRE COMBO NOW GIVES YOU A SIDEWALL OF 2 TO 3 INCHES. THE SIDEWALL OF A TIRE IS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE EDGE OF THE TIRE WHERE IT MEETS THE WHEEL AND WHERE THE TIRE SITS ON THE GROUND THE SIDE SUPPORTS THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS MEANS YOU HAVE LESS CUSHION BETWEEN THE WHEEL AND THE ROAD.
