While driving on the highway, my vehicle unexpectedly caught fire due to no fault of my own. Upon investigation, it appears the fire originated from a short in the rear window defroster wiring, which led to significant damage in the right rear C-pillar area, headliner, rear window, and rear deck. This event was not only hazardous to my physical safety but also deeply traumatic on a personal level. As someone who suffered severe burns as a child, experiencing a fire while operating a vehicle triggered a powerful emotional response. The trauma of the incident has had a profound impact on my mental health and sense of safety. I have always trusted BMW for its engineering excellence and commitment to safety, which makes this situation even more disheartening because they refuse to fix my vehicle.

On 12/03/2024, while traveling at approximately 35mph, the "top off coolant" light came on. After traveling for approximately 10 more minutes, in route to get coolant, a warning message came on the screen advising to drive cautiously to prevent engine scorching. The vehicle then began to slightly lose power while traveling on a busy road. The vehicle was then shut down and towed to BMW dealership. During the tow, it was discovered that coolant was leaking from the center area of the engine block. The manufacturers dealership service rep advised that the technicians discovered that the oil filter housing needed to be replaced. They also found that the coolant pump also needed to be replaced. The rep advised that the coolant seal on the oil filter housing had worn down and caused the coolant leak. He also advised that the coolant pump needed to be replaced, as it was also leaking. It was later discovered because the valve that the pressure propelled, hot coolant flows through in the oil filter housing is made of plastic, it often wears down and coolant leaks out heavily. The water pump is also effected by the part manufacturing issue. In addition to receiving a $4,270.42 invoice for repairs today, we just recently purchased the $199.00 BMW Vehicle Check Service from the dealership on 9/23/2024. At that time, we were advised there were no issues with the vehicle. We have sense learned that there have been multiple recalls on various BMW models for this exact same issue. However, the VIN on my vehicle has not yet been identified for recall. Had this issue gone on for mere moments more, the engine could have caught fire, and or, a catastrophic crash could have ensued, effecting any driver on the road.

Letters were sent out I. January of 2022. My 2018 bmw 320si has not been included in this recall for some odd reason. When car shuts off a warning message appears on screen. One message states “transmission not in park.” Or “drivetrain malfunction”. This began to happen on November 2022. I have taken my vehicle to two dealers. Multiple codes came on right after I had gotten my thermostat and my water pump fixed. However it ended up being that there was more leaks throughout the rest of the car. The car has currently cost me $3400 to fix and it’s still not fixed because nobody can figure out where the actual leak is coming from. The electrical call system malfunctions. I’ve done extensive research and actually confirmed with Garret today at A&L BMW that there is a problem in the manufacturing of the shark fin. The gasket that BMW uses does not hole up and the sealant does not keep water from leaking into the fin. Every time it rains/snows or the vehicle is wet the system malfunctions. Currently it only has the ability to affect me if I were in a wreck and won’t notify emergency services. This has the ability to shut down all electrical functions in my car and has been a common issue in BMW dating back as far as 2015. I called them in April to have it looked at, but I didn’t understand the problem and it had ceased. But since the weather has now began to be more frequently wet, this problem has become more persistent. Now they won’t cover because the final warranty expired in December of 2023. This should be recalled because it is a manufacturing issue.

At around 65k miles multiple plastic engine coolant connectors and hoses crack and fail. 5 locations at the same time! Coolant pump leaks. I went to an independent repair shop for a second opinion and repairs for $2,400 so far. Cheaper than the BMW service department. There was a recall done 2 years ago for 1 hose I believe. The entire cooling system should be recalled. We could be stranded somewhere in a bad situation and the engine could be destroyed if overheated. Awful and bad design.

My oil filter housing failed at about 53,000 miles. While driving to work I got a low coolant warning and pulled over to see coolant dumping out of my car. The low coolant warning only comes on when the expansion tank is almost completely empty which can lead to oil and coolant mixing and overheating which will lead to premature engine damage without any early warning signs. I’ve read through forums and everyone on there has their oil filter housing fail at the same time, (around 50-60k miles). This is a huge issue in the community and BMW wants to charge almost 3,500 to replace it with their “revised part”. The housing has been revised 3 times now and so the manufacturer should replace these failed designs with the new revised ones. There’s already been a recall on the B48 engine for the plastic cooling line that leads into the head of the engine and it looks like the oil filter housing is the next biggest common failure. I tried to upload a screenshot from the service center at BMW with the quote and failure but it’s not working on my mobile.

The radiator failed due to rocks flying through the grill and smashing the radiator causing coolant to flow out of the radiator which could cause deadly issues if a car has no coolant while operating. Bmw knows this is an issue and refuses to warranty/recall the parts. They know its an issue because after 12/17 every 340i came with a rock guard to protect the radiator but every car before that was just left to be victim of a potentially deadly situation including mine (manufactured 10/17). Bmw refuses to acknowledge the problem but the addition of the rock guard to cars after 12/17 should be enough evidence to show they knew it was an issue. Now all 2016-2018 m sport f30 chassis built before 12/7 are susceptible to this deadly situation and bmw refuses to cover for any damages even though they know it's a serious issue and they won't even cover the rock guard

In my instance, I was on cruise control at 61 mph (in a 55 zone, where traffic was also moving in the 60's). Although my car had no indication of overheating ever or at the time of the incident. The picture I took from the error also shows the temperature of my car which is normal. See picture. MY 2015 BMW HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS IN RALPH'S PARKING LOT IN BEVERLY HILLS ABOUT TO PULL OUT WHEN SUDDENLY MY BMW ACCELERATED, AND I NEARLY KILLED TWO PEOPLE. WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE BMW REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. SOMETHING WAS CALIBRATED TO HIGH.
ODI #11298636UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
CAR MAKING A EXPLOSIVE, CRANKING MECHANICAL NOISE UPON UNLOCKING THE CAR BEFORE YOU EVEN OPEN THE DOOR. THERE SEEMS TO BE A FUEL PUMP MAKING NOISE FROM INSIDE A GAS TANK. BMW AUTHORIZED DEALERS ACKNOWLEDGED THE NOISE IS ASSOCIATED WITH A "HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP" AND REFER TO THIS AS "NORMAL" I BELIEVE THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM IN THIS CAR AND OTHER SIMILAR MODELS ARE THE RESULT OF DEFECTIVE COMPONENT(S) AND/OR A RESULT OF A FLAWED ENGINEERING. THIS NOISE HOWEVER CONTINUES ON WITH A HUMMING/BUZZING SOUNDS FOR SEVERAL MINUTES WHICH ALSO EFFECTS THE CAR'S OVERALL PERFORMANCE WHICH SEEMS TO BE CAUSING THE CAR TO PERFORM AT A DIMINISHED LEVEL OVERALL WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT AFFECT VEHICLE'S OVERALL SAFETY COMPONENTS SUCH AS BRAKES AND OTHER CONTROL APPARATUS. AT TIMES, UPON UNLOCKING THE CAR, IT FEELS AND VERY WELL SOUNDS LIKE THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE?! AND THIS BY ITSELF CAUSING A GRAVE CONCERN AND I FEEL THAT IT MUST BE INVESTIGATED, ESPECIALLY THAT BMW HAS BEEN RELUCTANT/UNABLE TO REPAIR DESPITE REPEATED 8 ATTEMPTS WITH CAR BEING IN SERVICE FOR OVER 30 DAYS. THIS CAR IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. ALL REPAIR ORDERS HAVE BEEN DONE AT BMW AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. ALL REPAIR ORDER DOCUMENTS AS WELL AS A SHORT 15 SECONDS VIDEO CLIP ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.

ODI #11256481FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A STREET. ENGINE STALLED. CAR WOULDN'T START. TOWED TO BMW DEALERSHIP. CATASTROPHIC HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE AT APPROXIMATELY 7400 MILES. METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. INJECTORS, FUEL LINES, FUEL PUMP, AND FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
ODI #11233062ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
THIS CAR DOESN'T HAVE A WAY FOR DRIVERS TO PUT THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL IF THE ELECTRICAL PANEL AND THE ENGINE IS DEAD. I WAS IN THE FLOODED AREA IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND FELT SCARED WHEN BIG TRUCKS PASSED ME SIDE BY SIDE. EVEN THE SHERIFF WHO HELPED ME COULDN'T FIND IT IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. I HAVE A 12 MONTHS OLD GRANDSON AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR.
ODI #11124293VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
WAS ON A ROAD TRIP, DROVE 600 MILES PREVIOUS DAY. NEXT DAY EVENING, PIRELLI RUN FLAT TIRE BLOWS OUT ON A FREEWAY. I HAD JUST PASSED THE TOLL PLAZA AND WAS ACCELERATING TO MERGE WITH THE TRAFFIC. RUN FLAT REINFORCED SIDEWALLS SHOULD'VE ALLOWED THE TIRES TO BE USABLE EVEN AT 0 PSI BUT I EXPERIENCED SEVERE VIBRATION COMING THROUGH THE CHASSIS, CAR PULLING TO THE LEFT AND EMITTING A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE THAT FELT TERRIBLE AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. DESPITE APPEARING FINE AT FIRST GLANCE, THE TIRE WAS ACTUALLY SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE INNER SIDEWALL HAD A LARGE GASH. THE CAR WAS FINALLY TOWED TO A BMW SERVICE STATION AND THE ONLY OPTION WAS TO REPLACE THE TIRE. IN THE MEANTIME, THE BMW IDRIVE INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY SAID I COULD SAFELY DRIVE 50 MPH FOR 50 MILES.

I WAS ON THE CAPITAL BELTWAY OUTSIDE WASHINGTON DC GOING ABOUT 60 MPH AND MY SUNROOF SUDDENLY SHATTERED. IT WAS EXTREMELY SCARY BECAUSE IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT GOING OFF. IT WAS A VERY HOT DAY, LOW 90S. LUCKILY I HAD JUST CLOSED THE SUN VISOR SO THE GLASS DID NOT POUR DOWN ON ME OR MY PASSENGERS. WHEN WE PULLED OVER, WE FOUND A LARGE HOLE IN THE FRONT PANEL OF THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF AND SHATTERED GLASS SITTING ON THE FABRIC SUN VISOR.THE REMAINING GLASS WAS CRACKLED. I JUST GOT THIS CAR, BRAND NEW, 2 WEEKS AGO AND I KNOW IT HAD BEEN IN A HAIL STORM AND HAD DENTS THAT HAD TO BE REPAIRED JUST BEFORE I LEASED IT. I'M SUSPICIOUS THAT HE HAIL STORM MAY HAVE DAMAGED THE SUNROOF GLASS AS WELL.
