Lemon law eligibility depends on state law, number of repair attempts, and days out of service. Consult an attorney for actual eligibility.
The same components appear in both official NHTSA recalls and owner-filed complaints — a double-confirmed failure signal.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
One failed component has created stress on connected systems. Repair costs compound quickly — a $500 fix can become $3,000+ if cascade damage is ignored.
NHTSA VIN-specific recall lookup returned no data for this VIN. The 2 recalls below are model-wide and may or may not apply to this exact vehicle depending on production date. Verify at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

⚠ Complaint rate is accelerating — issue may be getting worse
This has happened 3 other times. It just stalls out when stopped. Not to do its SMART thing but it clunks-like and turns completely off. Its a bit scarey. And now heat issues just like the last 2 summers. It has issues!
On April 7, 2026, the vehicle experienced a 'quiet fade out' stall while in motion, resulting in a total loss of motive power. The dealership (DCH Kia of Temecula) confirmed cylinder scoring and referenced Techline Case 26022952. This failure is identical to the conditions described in the NHTSA Campaign 25V-099. The dealership is currently refusing to classify the repair as a Campaign Repair, which would include the mandated Lifetime Engine Warratny, and is instead attempting to process it as a discretionary 'Goodwill' repair to avoid federal safety requirements.
Vehicle: 2021 Kia Seltos VIN: [XXX] Mileage: 71,728 Recall: NHTSA 25V-099 / Kia SC336 (piston oil rings) – Subsequent Repair Action SC336YZ On [XXX], while driving at highway speeds during a trip from Everett to Bellingham WA, the vehicle suddenly lost power, the check-engine light came on, and it set DTCs P132700 (Piston Noise Detection) and P017100 (System Too Lean – Bank 1). The engine was documented 3 quarts low on oil. This is the exact failure mode described in the recall: defective piston oil rings causing oil consumption, engine damage, and loss of motive power. The nearest dealer (Smith Kia of Bellingham) performed only an oil change and cleared the codes, then declared the car “good to go.” The vehicle was then driven 20 miles to Rairdon Kia of Burlington, WA (the original selling Certified Pre-Owned dealer), where it is now located. Rairdon Kia states they cannot perform the full engine long-block replacement under SRA SC336YZ because the codes are no longer active. Kia USA Customer Care (Case #[XXX]) called today and stated they are “taking the side of Smith Kia”. They suggested getting another dealer’s opinion. We are now being told we must drive the vehicle until the code re-triggers. My wife refuses to do so. She is extremely upset and afraid of getting stuck on the side of the road or causing an accident due to sudden loss of power at highway speeds — exactly what happened on [XXX]. This situation is now causing significant stress and disruption in our personal life. This is a federally mandated safety recall that was supposedly completed before our CPO purchase ([XXX]) with no disclosure. The temporary oil change and code clear did not fix the underlying defect. We request that NHTSA require Kia to immediately authorize the full engine replacement at Rairdon Kia based on the documented history, without requiring us to drive an unsafe vehicle. I have a Kia Seltos 2021 AWD EX 24,700 mi. that was recalled and new engine put in on April 12th 2025 to fix grinding noise that occurred 4 times the end of March starting on the 17th 2025. On Dec. 12th 2025 Grinding noise started again. Couldn't find anything wrong and told them to try harder. Said needed software update back to what it was before engine put in. My problem: I don't have the 5 year extended warranty that I thought I had. Never got papers about warranty of new engine which I don't think it is. No papers saying if they ever checked to see if parts affected by grinding had shown wear. Neither dealer where it was serviced had done this to my knowledge and won't give written proof. I never had a copy of any of the paper work I signed in front of me the 3 ½ hours in office. He would go over and tell me to initial or sign. Then didn't want to give me a paper copy but put on zip drive. I insisted on paper and about a ½ hour late he came with 28 pages of mostly size 6 font. I just wanted out. They have known this car has had issues since the day I bought it. I have called customer service dealer and corporate. According to paperwork Im not allowed to ask for a jury trial, go to arbitration or join a class action suit nor get reimbursed for repairs caused by defects. I went to Sr. vs. Crime and they tried to call to get paperwork and they didn't return calls. What options do I have left as the ods of needing repairs seem obvious. My car is worth nothing - bad reputation, and I don't feel safe driving it.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost automotive power with the check engine and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic and then towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and retrieved DTC: B001400 and P00A0. The contact was informed that the piston flap and cylinder #1 had failed, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,803.
On April 4th 2025 I received a letter concerning NHTSA Recall 25V099 and was asked to have dealership run diagnostics. On April 30th dealership says "YES" engine needs to be replaced. Two days later dealership calls me and says new software has arrived and they need to run diagnostics for recall again, this time on May 16th 2025 car passes. NOW, almost one year later and after warranty has expired, the car has a DTC P1327 which is noted in the recall letter and the car will NOT start. Had it towed to nearest dealer and they say since the original dealer "Passed" the recall, I have to pay to get car looked at again. It is obvious to me their original diagnosis missed something and now I just want my vehicle back, but it won't run because of the P1327 DTC and of course the dealership where car is now says since I did not buy it there, nothing they can do? KIA service is TERRIBLE.
Excessive oil consumption Engine damage or failure Ticking noise from the engine Loss of power when driving Rough idle, shaking the car is not able to be used, for safe.
While driving engine shut off and car will not start. Garage states engine is seized up. It is same engine that Kia recalled
The engine seems to be failing/affected. The vehicle is currently available for inspection at Huffines Kia in [XXX] where it has been since Saturday, March 14, 2026 and they have yet to perform the SC336 Safety Recall while trying to charge a diagnostic fee for a multipoint inspection that I did not ask for. The vehicle would not start which now I know is due to total oil consumption, which appears to be a precursor to the recall. Having a vehicle that can catastrophically fail or stall without warning due to defective piston rings creates extreme risk of a crash or fire while my family is inside. The service department at Huffines Kia Mckinney confirmed to Kia Corporate on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 that the vehicle was completely depleted of oil. However, they have not officially confirmed the recall failure because they have not done the recall test. They told corporate that they haven't done the recall because I did not have oil in my car. They have had my car since Saturday, but have not topped it off with oil since it has been there for several business days. I have also opened a formal case with Kia Corporate (Case #XXX) due to the dealer not providing the free safety remedy required by law. There was no oil pressure warning light prior to the failure, however, when trying to start my car and it wouldn't start, the oil and engine light came on. A tow truck came to tow to the dealer. The tow driver was able to start my car using a jumper box. The dealership says my car ran fine and no oil or engine light was on. However, if they ran my car knowing it was depleted of oil, they have potentially further damaged my engine. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, there was white smoke coming from the engine, before the engine caught on fire. After the failure, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to pull over safely. The fire was extinguished independently. There were no reported injuries. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was scorched and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I made a turn onto a highway. I got up to 45 mph after my turn and my car stalled. It felt like a was reared ended, my car came to just about a complete stop. It then began to shake and would not accelerate past 5mph to get me over to the side of the road. The check engine light came on. On 2/28/2026 my engine came on, I took it to Kia and they replaced my spark plugs, I got my vehicle back on 3/10/2026. At the beginning on 2026, Kia had my car for over a month for the same engine issues but said nothing is wrong with the vehicle. Back in December 2024 I had this exact issue of the car jolting and stalling. Kia said it was the transmission. I paid to have that replaced but it seems the vehicle is still having all of the same issues. My life was put at risk driving this 2021 Kia Seltos. I am very lucky that the cars around me were paying attention and did not crash into my car that came to a complete stop with vehicles going 65 around me. Others lives could have been at risk had they crashed into my car. My car is once again back at Kia, with the engine light on again.
Engine stalled at stoplight. Was able to restart and pulled into closest parking lot where it began idling hard. Check Engine light turned on. Checked oil and it was bone dry (no signs of oil leak/burning beforehand). After adding about a quart of oil, while in park I revved the engine slowly, but it would stall out if it went over 3000 rpms and idle even harder. My basic code reader popped for P0014 and P0017 (crankshaft/camshaft position). Had to have it towed to the local dealer for safety. 75,400 miles on it and my VIN has not been part of recalls. Requesting an investigation to include more VINs as these issues point to a prior recall resulting in engine replacement.
I am filing a complaint regarding my 2021 Kia Seltos 2.0L. While driving, the engine made a continuous rattling noise, and the check engine light illuminated with code P0017 (Camshaft/Crankshaft Correlation). Upon inspection, I discovered the engine oil level was extremely low. After adding oil, the rattling stopped, but the P0017 code remains. I contacted my dealership, which refused to perform any recall or warranty inspection. I also contacted Kia Consumer Affairs, and my goodwill claim was closed with no follow-up. I am concerned this issue is related to a known engine defect affecting 2021 Seltos 2.0L engines, specifically problems with piston rings and excessive oil consumption, which can lead to engine damage, stalling, or timing errors. I request that NHTSA record this complaint, investigate whether my vehicle is affected by a defect, and ensure Kia provides proper inspection and repair coverage. This is a potential safety and engine reliability concern.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle started to lose motive power. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to stop the vehicle, and the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that there was an open recall for the engine and to take the vehicle to a dealer. The contact was informed of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, and the contact was informed that the engine had seized, and it was unknown if the recall was related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the contact that the engine would not be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000.
My 2021 Kia Seltos (manufactured April 2020, ~94,000 miles) has the 2.0L Nu MPI engine affected by a known piston oil ring defect. Symptoms include piston noise, excessive oil consumption, rough idle, reduced power, and codes: P1327 (PNSS-detected knock), P0304 (cyl 4 misfire), P0017 (crank/cam correlation error). These indicate progressive cylinder wall scoring from improperly heat-treated rings, risking seizure or fire. Service history shows: • SC209 (Safety Recall 21V-259) inspection in Jul 2021. • SC209A (PNSS software update) in Feb 2022—explains why P1327 now triggers. • Other campaigns: anti-theft (CS2309/CS2312), AWD ECU (SC242/SC297), ECM logic (SA463). The defect progressed despite early recall work; dealers deny full engine replacement, citing prior completion or shifting coverage. SC209 has no mileage limit—progressive damage qualifies for re-inspection (vibration test, bore scope, compression) and free long block replacement if confirmed. You’ve faced loaner return demands before 2-week period, goodwill denials, and inconsistent coverage. The issue aligns with NHTSA concerns (e.g., AQ25001 on similar recall effectiveness).
On [XXX], check engine light came on with P1327 (PNSS piston noise detection). History includes SC209 recall in 2021 (inspection passed, PNSS software added Feb 2022). Now at 94,000 miles with misfire P0304 on cyl 4 and timing correlation P0017—dealer refuses full engine replacement under recall. Service dealer insisted it would be safe to drive 300 miles to Billings, MT from my home base location. Got 5 miles down the road to be left stranded to walk back with no service on a 13 degree day. [XXX] Kia Seltos engine stalled and then stopped running. Driver attempted to turn engine over with no success. [XXX] The 2021 Seltos was towed to Kia in Jacksonville Nc. Kia Jacksonville stated engine seized, performed a compression test of cylinders with failure. cylinder 1 had a 135 psi, cylinder 3 had a 105 psi. It was stated that cylinder 1 and 3 had excessive scoring on the walls. Prior recall fixes included SC209 on Jul 19, 2021 with a dealer code of NC072. Recall SC209A was issued on 4/13/2021 per a car fax report. Recall for Sc209A was issued before the Sc209 recall fix. SC209A was not fixed on Jul19,2021. In February 2026 SC209A was updated after the engine stalled, had cylinder scoring and inadequate compression in cylinders. Owner of the 2021 Kia Seltos paid $1304,91 after a goodwill assist was authorized by the General or Regional Manager of Kia Jacksonville NC. Service Manager stated that Engine does not qualify for a replacement under the recall for not meeting the workflow criteria issued by Kia. The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH up a slight hill, the vehicle shuddered significantly and failed to accelerate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light then started flashing. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to Hamlin Automotive on several occasions. The mechanic replaced 4 spark plugs, oil piston rings, and the camshaft; however, the failure persisted. The mechanic advised the contact that the failure might be related to the fuel injectors. Additionally, the mechanic had informed the contact that the vehicle might be experiencing excessive oil consumption. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for recall repair; however, the contact was informed that no issue was found upon inspection of the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the check engine warning light started flashing. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired due to the cost. The contact related the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Shuddered into limp mode at a stop sign. Has a sever shudder that throws it into limp mode, loses ability to drive in reverse and then loses ability to drive at all. Has issues shifting gears while driving causing the engine to rev itself while driving. Vehicle has left me stranded on multiple occasions. Has nearly 75,000 miles and I've put just over 4,000 of those on it since acquiring it at the end of October/Beginning of November.
I had my car to a reliable mechanic who informed me of open recalls on my vehicle. The next morning, while I was driving, the engine started making a noise and I called a local Kia dealership. I was making arrangements to bring the car in for them to look at when the car stalled, and I got to the side of the road. While I was looking up the number to call for a tow service, a driver passed me and informed me there was a fire under my engine. Within five minutes, the entire car was engulfed in flames. I was very lucky. Someone told me and I was able to get out.
My engine was replaced April 9. 2025 because of piston issues. I had taken it in a few weeks prior for terrible grinding noise, shaking, and slowing down. They didn't find anything wrong. It happened for a short time twice after and didn't take in as sporadic and would stop. Then it happened again for longer time. I had it towed to Kia again. During time in shop, I received a recall letter. Shop kept saying it would be done next day. After a few days I called and they said they were putting in an engine. I Picked it up and then two weeks before Christmas It started grinding sound and shaking etc. It was towed into Kia I bought from as my Kia roadside had expired a few days before. They ran diagnostic test and said they found nothing. I told they to try harder. Ran another test and supposedly according to some bulletin they upgraded some software back to what it was before engine replaced and the problem should be fixed. Only drove car 1 mile according to service papers I have. I have a 5 year old car with 24,000-25,000 mi. on and I am afraid to drive it. So far it has only happened when driving 45 mph or less. I will not drive it on turnpike or interstate. I want this recorded someplace so it is on the record for other with this issue.
My 2021 Kia Seltos has experienced repeat internal engine damage related to oil consumption. An intake camshaft previously failed and was replaced by Kia. The vehicle has now suffered a second camshaft failure (exhaust cam) with dealer documentation of oil starvation. Prior recall SC336 was addressed only with a software update and no mechanical engine inspection. Despite documented oil starvation and repeat internal damage, Kia and the dealer have refused recall reassessment or engineering (Techline) review and are treating this as an out-of-warranty cam failure. The vehicle experienced timing issues and near-total oil loss prior to scheduled service, creating risk of sudden loss of power while driving. I am requesting investigation of recall adequacy and engine defect.
My Seltos had a recall in 2021 (recall number SC209) because the piston oil rings were not property heated which can result in engine damage. The problem was supposedly repaired in 2021, yet in 2026 at 50,000 miles I am having piston notice problems and the engine light is constantly lit. The car has stalled on several occasions. I am being told that my vehicle with only 50,000 miles needs a brand new engine block and transmission. The recall was a safety recall to prevent the engine from stalling, risk of a crash and increased risk of fire. Although the issues with my vehicle are clearly as a result of the piston issue which were supposed to have been fixed they obviously were not and I am now experiencing all issues of the recall and bad engine. Kia of Round Rock is refusing to make this repair correctly and are asking me to pay for the new engine and transmission because they say it is out of warranty. That being said, had the recall problem been correctly resolved in 2021 I would not be having these same problems will fall directly in line with the issues resulting in the recall.
On 01/04/26, my vehicle’s Check Engine light came on and the engine was shaking. The next day, my mechanic diagnosed a P0301 code (cylinder #1 misfire), found signs of burning oil and cylinder damage in all cylinders, and noted the car had burned over 2 quarts of oil since the last oil change. He suspected faulty oil rings (previously recalled) and advised immediate dealer repair, warning of possible engine failure or fire hazard. The car had only 42K miles and should have been under warranty, but the dealer refused service because the code was cleared and said the warranty expired 4 months earlier. They claimed recall work was completed in June 2021 and would only help if the check engine light returned. Despite research showing codes are stored in the engine control system, the dealer insisted there was “no way to see the code.” After 10 days, the light didn’t return, so I picked up the car and continued driving, noticing a burning oil smell. On 02/02/26, I returned to the dealer, who offered only an Oil Consumption Test, stating it’s acceptable for the vehicle to burn 1.3 quarts per 1,000 miles—though the car’s oil capacity is just 4.2 quarts. The service advisor suggested I contact Kia USA, which I did on 2/06/26. Kia USA sent a repair order to the dealer, who claimed to be “working on the diagnosis.” Kia USA requested two more business days to follow up. GPS tracking shows the vehicle hasn’t moved except for parking since it was brought in.
Dealer has denied to look into recall claiming that it is part of a warranty extension when it is a safety recall due to the issues I am experiencing. The car began to stall not even a year into me owning the vehicle. I had barely had the car for 4 months, not even enough time for my first oil change and my car stalled on me in a parking lot as I was driving. It shut off. It has done this multiple tomes randomly since. Then one day after work my car wouldnt start at all and when we eventually got it started, it would then stall every 15 feet that id be able to drive it. The entire car just shuts off every time. All of my lights were still working, but the engine itself would shut off.
I am reporting a failure of the remedy for NHTSA Recall 25V099 (Kia Recall SC336). My 2021 Kia Seltos with the 2.0L Nu MPI engine is exhibiting severe engine knocking and high oil consumption. Despite providing video evidence of the knock to Archer Kia (Houston, TX), the dealership refuses to acknowledge the defect or perform the required borescope inspection. This defect is a documented fire and stall risk. I am being denied a loaner vehicle despite having a medically fragile child who requires this vehicle for surgery and doctor appointments. The dealership is utilizing 'oil consumption tests' as a delay tactic to avoid performing the recall-mandated engine replacement. This vehicle is unsafe to operate.
The Kia was traveling approximately 45 - 50 mph and struck another vehicle that had pulled out from a stop sign. I had my hand on the horn and the airbags did not deploy on impact.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), but the failure occurred. While the contact's wife was stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. While the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle lunged forward and then stalled. The contact's wife was able to coast to the side of the road. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that there was no oil in the engine, causing the exhaust pin to be sheared off the exhaust camshaft. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that when the vehicle was serviced in August of 2025, the engine was inspected; however, the recall repair was not performed. There were no oil stains found on the ground, and there was no warning light illuminated, indicating that the oil level was low. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and refused to perform the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
The car makes a jumping/jerking movement & at times, something that seems like a misfire happens. All lights go on and the car will do that jerking issue & become un drivable. This happened to me on the road and I was afraid for my safety as I couldn’t get my car to a safe place immediately. Brought it to my mechanic and he gave me forms of a recall regarding 2021 Kia Seltos which is what I have.
We bought this 2021 Kia used and within a year the engine blew. There was a defect in the motor. It had just passed the warranty mileage.
My vehicle is included in NHTSA Recall 25V099 / Kia SC336 for defective piston oil rings. The vehicle has experienced stalling, loss of power, knocking noises, and oil consumption. The engine behavior is unsafe and consistent with recall-related engine damage. Kia closed my case based on a dealer’s subjective noise judgment, but no mechanical engine testing (oil consumption, compression, or cylinder inspection) was performed. The recall remains incomplete and the vehicle continues to present a stalling and fire risk.
When driving the car for a prolonged amount of time at a higher speed, the emissions from the motor back up into to the cabin once the car is stopped.
I See recalls on transmissions but i don't see one on mine and it is having the same problems as the other Seltos not sure way it's not on a recall list
Piston oil ring recall update complete in July 20 25. A month later key fob battery dies. Replaced key fob battery every other month since recall. September 20 25 had brakes and rotors changed at dealership since then anti-slip alert has triggered twice on dry roads. Light comes on then immediately goes off. Remote car starter stopped working in December. Dealership had no resolution for key fob issues and has not been able to replicate anti-slip issue. Dealership currently has vehicle to attempt to replicate issue and to look into the remote car starter issue. This is unsafe because the car automatically shutters and feels uncontrolled slip comes on also causes issues when key fob consistently dies every other month and get alert, letting me know that the key fob has died. And while the remote car starter is not a safety issue, it is all tied in with the electrical issues that are happening. The issues started after the recall was added to my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the engine started making an abnormal loud knocking sound. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The contact stated that the failure worsened while attempting to drive the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine), which included the VIN. The dealer informed the contact that a claim could not be submitted to the manufacturer for the engine replacement approval because the contact did not have oil change receipts. The contact stated that the residence had previously caught on fire, and the contact no longer had the receipts. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was informed that the case could be escalated to an unknown department. The contact had a follow up call with the manufacturer, but no further assistance had been provided. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
. Over consumption of oil causing engine failure
I have a KIA Seltos 2021 2.0L, Odom 90288, the engine has failed. I was driving when the engine failed and refused to turn over, start. I was on my way to work at approximately [XXX] when in the middle of a left hand turn at the intersection of [XXX] and [XXX] the engine failed, car shout off which left me in the middle of the street (it was still dark outside, and I was stranded in the middle of the street). Prior to this engine failure I received an email directly from KIA stating that there was a recall on my engine and the car needed to be serviced, however I was unable to make my scheduled appointment because the engine failed, prior to. I recently took my car into Bayside KIA of Waldorf however they are refusing to cover the car and the repairs in correlations to the engine recall. Prior to have the car diagnosed by Bayside KIA the car was inspected by JJ Auto Service of Waldorf, who confirmed that the engine failure may be in correlation to the open recalls on my 2021 Seltos. Three days prior to the engine going out the check engine light came on, and I heard knocking under the engine which is the leading reason I scheduled the service inspection with KIA. I believe my engine failed in correlation to recall #21 V259000 (KIA Recall #SC209). INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
my sensor does not work and does not detect the gas in tank car wont start or turn on
Can smell gas fumes in and around car. Afraid to drive. Took to dealer. Fuel pump and associated gaskets fittings needed to be replaced. Not cover under 10 yr, 100K warranty even though the vehicle only has 83K miles. Just to right.
This 2021 Kia Seltos car’s engine has randomly seized up 4 times over the last year causing very serious safety concern. Fortunately, these 4 seize-ups happened when the powerless Seltos car could be safely directed to the shoulder of the road while driving in slower paced traffic. Each time this occurred, our 2021 Kia Seltos had to be towed; towed twice to a mechanic shop and twice to directly to the dealer. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as the vehicle using excessive oil resulting in the vehicle safety sensors shutting the engine down. However, in those instances when we towed the vehicle to the dealer, the dealership always obfuscated and gave us the impression that they were not taking our safety concerns seriously. They never adequately addressed our concerns and often conducted some minor repairs seemingly to placate us to get us down the road. None of their minor repairs worked or solved the problem. In each instance after their repair the problem repeated. We expressed our extreme frustration and concern for our life safety. We communicated to them that this vehicle’s engine has proven unsafe and that has randomly seize-up several times We have researched the 2021 Seltos and found that these Kia models have many serious recalls for multiple items including the problem that we have experiences with excess oil usage. It is our experience that our KIA dealership will not adequately address our concerns and will not take necessary measures to adequately address our very serious safety issues. We believe that our 2021 Seltos is a "Lemmon" and needs to be replaced, or at least its engine replaced. We hope this complaint results in serious action and that I'm not writing again indicating that this 2021 Seltos “Lemmon" vehicle has again seized up and has resulted in a life-threatening safety issue.
THE CAR WAS MAKING A GRINDING SOUND, VIBRATES, SLOWS DOWN. GRINDING SOUND IS LIKE GRINDING GEARS OR A SNOWPLOW SCRAPING PAVEMENT. THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED IN APRIL BECAUSE OF RECALL. I ONLY HAVE 23765 MILES ON IT BUT ORIGINAL 5 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED ON 12/09/2025. THE SAME NOISE STARTED AGAIN ON 12/10/2025 AND IT WAS TOWED TO DEALER I BOUGHT FROM ON 12/10/25. The master warning light came on 12/10/25 incident and some text. There was traffic so unable to read it and light went off.
Car had 59,522 miles when I purchased it (now has 64,320), and after driving 1,500 miles, it began hot-idle stall with oil light indicator lit. Restarted and drove OK, but when slowing, it kept stalling. This also happened on the roads when slowing for a light or for traffic, posing a risk to myself and others. After 6-7 times and doing some research, this problem exactly matches the symptoms in Kia’s TSB ENG222 Rev 6. I had it towed to a KIA service center due to the concern that it can throw a bearing during stall (as well as be unsafe). Dealer performed combustion chamber cleaning and replaced the PCV valve ($1,000!). They asked me to keep a close eye on oil consumption. Over the next less-than-1,000 miles of driving, engine consumed 3 quarts, well in excess of Kia’s expectation of no more than 1 quart per 1,000 miles. The dealer contacted Kia’s technical assistance for help and was denied an engine replacement due to me being the second owner, out of power train warranty and just purchasing the vehicle, as well as indicating that the engine had previously been “fixed” pursuant to the TSB; however, clearly it is not fixed. I now unfortunately know that this problem is associated with the poor design of the engine and up to 20% of the owners who have had the problem “fixed” continue to have the same problem recur. The engine has barely more than 60,000 miles on it and was maintained, according to CarFax, rather flawlessly by the previous (and only other) owner. There is no way that properly built and appropriately maintained engine should fail with less than 60,000 miles on it unless there is something inherently wrong with the design or build of the engine. It also seems like a huge copout on Kia’s part to not honor their 100,000 mile, 10 year powertrain warranty simply because the car transferred owners (once), especially with the history of known appropriate servicing AND that the car’s engine has already failed the repair directed by TSB ENG222 Rev 6.
I took my car to the dealership for the recall fix on its engine where they put the noise sensors in. I told them my car was burning oil and my car check engine light came on so I took it back in. Just before going in the light went off, but the code was for a misfire in cylinder 2. They did could not recreate the misfire and sealed my engine and told me to bring it back in 1000 miles. During this time the check engine light came on and went off again for the same code. When I brought it back at 1000 miles they could not recreate the misfire and said my car burned 0.77 quarts of oil in 1000 miles and in order for the engine to be bad that it needed to burn 1.0 quarts in that timeframe. They resealed the engine and I am to bring it back again in 1000 miles. A car should burn next to nothing for oil in 1000 miles. So my engine could burn out almost all its oil before a regular oil change and burn up the engine unless I keep adding oil. I am betting the cylinder misfire is because of oil fouling the plug. I could be on the highway and my motor could stall or blowup from lack of oil. Their recall fix is a joke and saying a regular gas enginecan burn up to 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles is ridiculous. This and every car with this engine problem should have the engine properly repaired or replaced
I am writing regarding my vehicle, a 2021 Kia Seltos LX - VIN Number [XXX] , which is subject to a recall NHTSA #25V099, Manufacturer Recall Number SC336. I was informed of the recall April 2025 and have since experienced engine stalling while driving on the highway with my young children with me, abnormal engine noise, complete oil loss and eventually complete engine failure. Unfortunately, this defect caused my vehicle to become unsafe and completely inoperable for the last 8 weeks. Kia said "We have completed the SC336 Piston Oil Ring recall, and your vehicle did pass. This means that the failure of the engine is not covered within the scope of that recall. This vehicle also does not have Kia warranty coverage active now due to age and miles. At this stage, Metro Kia does not have any further recourse for warranty coverage." My kia was stalling on the highway, complete oil loss where it was bone dry which led to engine failure. How did the vehicle "PASS" when EVERYTHING from the description of the recall is EXACTLY what happened to me? This is absolutely wild that Kia is refusing to do anything about this vehicle. It is a 2021, with 65,000 miles on it. The repairs are over 13K and I am being told I would get nothing for the car if I traded it in because it is worth nothing. Because of this situation, I have experienced a complete loss of transportation and have been relying on other methods of transportation and emptying my bank account for numerous towing visits to and from the dealership. Kia has not fixed the recall and instead quoted me over $13,000 to repair the car. I have enclosed copies of relevant documents, including the recall notice, service records, and any related correspondence. I messaged the BBB and attached Kia's response to that, as well as an email with the service advisor at Kia. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My 2021 Kia Seltos is experiencing engine problems that match the piston-ring defect involved in Kia Recall SC336. I first took the vehicle to the dealership in August 2025 for excessive oil consumption and engine knocking. The dealer documented the engine was 1 quart low and stated the oil was “most likely being used internally getting past the piston rings.” However, they only performed the software update from SC336 and did not perform any internal engine inspection. Since that visit, the condition has significantly worsened. The vehicle is now consuming more oil than before, the knocking/ticking noises have become louder and more frequent, and fuel economy has declined. I am adding oil between changes to keep the engine from running dangerously low. There are no external leaks, so the oil is being burned internally, which is consistent with piston-ring failure. These symptoms are identical to other Seltos vehicles already included in the recall, yet my VIN is not currently part of it. The progression of engine noise and oil consumption raises serious safety concerns, including potential engine failure, loss of power, or stalling while driving. The dealer acknowledges the internal oil use but refuses further diagnostic work without direction from Kia. I am reporting this because the defect is worsening and poses a safety risk, and the vehicle appears to have the same failure pattern as recalled engines.
DEATH TRAP! Point blank~Engine will STILL Jerk, Skip, Not Do Anything Or even Shut Off Without Warning!!! The Driver's Screen will still Flash and go out but only once in a while now. Dealership didn't understand that. They told me Radio was Fine Now. I told them Screen Directly in Front of Driver's with Speedometer on it. IT'S HARD TO FIND GOOD HELP. EVEN HARDER, to FIND a SAFE RELIABLE VEHICLE that YOUR KIDS CAN BE IN!!! % RUST {definitely} up under Near the License Plate Bracket. ALSO, the Windshield WIPERS STOP WORKING WHENEVER THEY CHOOSE!!! The Best part is, the Dealership CAN'T DO ANYTHING about ANY OF THIS. Why? Pretty much because KIA REDID the TEST so that ALL the Vehicles PASS Now. It makes it LOOK like the Engines are OK, when in Reality they are . I bought this Vehicle 12-30-24 with 44,068 miles on it. My Daughter and I thought we were going to Die in it on 4-26-25. We didn't even have it a full 4 months Before We Found Out WE HAVE A LEMON from KIA. There were 3,310 Miles put on it. Come on... I was told there was No Way to NOTE My Account at the Dealership for the Different Times {Everytime} this NEGLIGENT STUFF Kept and Still Does Happening. That's OK. I just Hope and Pray for KIA's sake, that Nothing Ever Seriously Happens to Anyone because of How THIS 2021 KIA SELTOS VEHICLE Operates DEFECTIVELY in So MANY DIFFERENT WAYS that ARE SAFETY HAZARDS. IF they were Smart, they would REPLACE ALL OF THEM with a Brand New Vehicle to AVOID A POSSIBLE SERIOUS FATALITY. I only say this because that's what WE experienced more than once. We fear this Daily. We ended up with this Vehicle after our Honda CRV-EXL was Totaled by Someone running a Red Light. It was the OTHER PERSON'S FAULT, but after paying off car... Kia was all in could afford. I had NO Choice but to get this KIA. Being a Single Mom on Low Social Security Disability Income, I did what I had to do! I have to have a GOOD RELIABLE AWD VEHICLE to get to Doctors Appointments. THIS ISN'T ONE.
My 2021 Kia Seltos with the 1.6L turbo engine is burning an excessive amount of oil — about one quart every 800–1000 miles — and is showing blue smoke from the exhaust. A certified technician indicated that the likely cause is faulty piston rings, which is a known issue on this engine and has led to engine replacements in other Kia vehicles. The vehicle was purchased as a Certified Pre-Owned Kia, and I have maintained it properly. Despite this, Kia and the dealership and the certified preowned warranty company have denied warranty coverage, calling it "oil consumption," even though the oil loss is clearly excessive and mechanical in nature. This defect poses a potential safety hazard, as engine failure or oil-related fires could occur if the engine runs low on oil while driving. There are many similar reports online from 2021 Kia Seltos owners experiencing the same problem. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and require Kia to address these engine defects, as they appear to be widespread and potentially dangerous.
Recall was initiated for my 2021 Kia Seltos for potential defective engine piston rings which could lead to increased oil consumption and lead to damage/fire to engine compartment. My vehicle has been burning through oil to the point i have to add it weekly to keep it from running out before next scheduled oil changes. Two separate local mechanics confirmed this is highly indicative of bad piston rings and should definitely be covered for repair/replacement by Kia dealer under recall. I took car in for recall assessment, they stated they performed an oil consumption test and engine knocking test to which they deemed it passed. I spoke with lead mechanic explaining that the car is burning through oil so quickly it would be completely empty by next scheduled oil changes if i wasnt continuously adding it - to which they replied they were aware and to "just keep adding oil". I stated this didnt seem right as it we know it is burning up oil at an alarming rate inside engine and was told unless it is pretty much spewing oil on the floor in front of us, it will pass the consumption test and you just have to continue adding oil. The piston rings would not even be checked unless you "failed the oil consumption test first". This is very concerning to drive now since there are reports of this issue leading to engine fires.
I bought this vehicle brand new in 2021. I noticed at the beginning that when I accelerated that the car would delay in acceleration. This would happen sporadically. Now it is happening all the time and has almost caused me to get into several accidents because of the delay in acceleration. This is a major safety risk. I've had the car inspected at Kia Dealers and they just say yeah, we hear that a lot with this model but there is no recall. There are no warning lamps or messages.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that unknown warning lights were intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the contact was informed that there was less than one-quarter of oil in the engine. The contact stated that an oil change was performed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for further services. The contact was advised that the vehicle should not consume 3.5 quarts of oil within 5,000 miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not inspected. The dealer was informed that the vehicle was consuming 3.5 quarts of oil within 5,000 miles. The contact was informed that it was not an issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was informed about NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an oil change. After leaving the mechanic, the vehicle started smoking, and the engine seized in traffic. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who determined that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that there were no oil change records for the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was traveling at approximately 50mph straight through an intersection. The opposing car made a left turn directly in front of me and I T-boned the other vehicle (gray Kia Optima). There was sufficient front end damage that my car was totaled. The airbags on my vehicle failed to deploy.
After being stopped while driving when the car turns off, when re-starting sometimes the car will turn off, I have to put my car into park in the middle of the street to restart the engine. Other times, it will start alerting me to "push the start button" as if my car isn't on already. This causes me to come to a complete stop in the middle of the intersections and puts me at risk.
Was driving about 25 30 miles an hour coming to a stop and it stalled out all break power and everything cut out managed to get the car stopped and started again but looking it up not on nation recall list but it’s giving me the same problems on the recall list have replaced the battery starter they said flywheel and alternator are okey I haven’t made but one payment on the vehicle also chef oil and all that currently fine
The engine (62K miles on it) on this vehicle is consuming oil very fast. We took this in several times to no avail but we finally received documentation from Kia stating the issue, we took it in for tests and the Kia Dealership has confirmed it needs a new engine. However Kia is denying the new motor due to missing one oil change document. This was done by my daughter's boyfriend and was done. However, they did not keep the receipt BUT we did have documentation on all other oil changes. This issue with the motor is NOT an issue of a receipt but due to Kia's poor manufacturing. It has improperly heated treated piston oil rings. Regardless of one miss receipt, this should be covered. There is also an audit with the NHSA for the issue.
I just bought the car in July used from Honda there rates on extended warranty for the car at the time were outrageous but since buying it it’s been stalling hard starting throwing engine codes after a month and throwing all the power train warning that we’re a part of the recall with it doing that even giving me all the driving assist warnings I don’t currently have a good picture of what’s going on or video but I’ve replaced the starter and battery an it didn’t fix the issue Honda is saying take it to Kia and Kia is saying take it to Honda and I’m not getting any answers with that either I just know from people I’ve talked to that’s had the car t a point said there’s was recalled and it fixed those issues with one of them mines just also not on that list
We received the NHTSA recall # 25VO99 letter from KIA America Corporate Headquarters, dated April 4, 2025. We called the service department at the local Kia dealership, and were told "Don't bring it in, hold off, they were not doing this at this time, KIA is doing it a different way." It seemed odd at the time, since we were following KIA's recall instructions: "In the interest of the safety of your passengers, as well as your own safety, contact your local KIA dealer to arrange for the recall to be performed." In early September, we had stopped driving the car and had it towed to the same service department because we heard a ticking noise in engine, and stalled out - no lights on the dashboard ever came on indicating an engine problem. The service center, at the Kia dealership, said that the noise had nothing to do with NHTSA Recall #25VO99 even though it is identical to the safety recall's indicators. Instead of honoring the recall they said we needed a new long block. We were told by the service center Kia had them do a borescope inspection across cylinders 1 through 4, we were told cylinder 3 was "really bad". They asked for our maintenance records and we were told that we voided our warranty by late oil changes along the way. We have brought the car to the same Kia dealership for all service when we moved here four years ago. To be clear the engine had plenty of oil in it when it started stalling out, and making noise. Kia is contending that the engine blew because the oil might have been dirty. They have given us no proof of this or no proof that the safety recall does not apply. This car was not even 5 years old and under the 60,000 miles. We still had 5 payments on our car loan with Kia. We were charged $6,679.15 for a new longblock engine. Kia took no responsibility for the faulty engine.
The auto stop start function of this car is very unsafe. It sometimes does not start back immediately and rolls back. It’s just very unsafe.
There is a defect in the passenger seat belt buckles, its extremely hard to get it to fasten and it doesn't properly lock, you have to consistently put the buckle in to get it to lock and sometimes it may just unbuckle without touching it.
Traveling WB on SR100 approximately 60mph after picking up dinner in [XXX] , Before reaching the turn for 302, a deer jumped from the southbound side of the road to the northbound side of the road. When it jumped, the right side of the deer impacted the front of my vehicle which in turn ripped the vehicles hood up from locked down position and slammed it into the windshield. I saw the deers midsection from under the raised hood as the impact happened. I immediately put on my hazards and began to decelerate and pull off the road. I dont understand how my airbags didnt deploy with the damage that was incurred from the deer. In that instant, the side and front collision warning indicators never alerted and the airbags never deployed. The vehicle is being towed to Classic Colision in Daytona Beach FL from Roger's Towing in Bunnell FL Had this been a vehicle impacting another vehicle, my mother and I would not be here as the recalled repaired airbags did not deploy upon impact. We have a 2021 Kia Seltos. It was purchased 09/2023 as a certified pre-owned vehicle. Purchased from Putnam Chrysler Doge Jeep Kia in Putnam CT. It started using oil, about a quart a week. No oil spill on garage floor. Received notice of recall. We took it to the dealer for the recall in May of 2025. We were told it passed their inspection and the recall was entered as completed. Oil continued to run out. My wife could hear valves clicking and she new the oil was low. All this information was conveyed to the dealer and they had us bring it back in 6/2/2025. At that time an oil consumption test was performed. Die was added to the oil and was told to drive 1000 miles. Returned to dealer on 06/27/2025. Was told the test result showed no oil consumption. On [XXX] we were driving to market. The check engine light came on. I pulled over and checked oil. It was empty. Returned vehicle to dealer. Now they said the head was bad and the engine needed to be rebuilt. Called Kia customer service and was told that they would not replace the engine and my extended warranty would cover the cost to replace the head. This is my wife's car and I do not think it will be safe to drive. My email address is [XXX] . [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On [XXX], while driving my 2021 Kia Seltos (VIN: [XXX] ) on the highway at approximately 70 MPH, the engine suddenly revved slightly higher and then completely shut off without warning. This caused a loss of power, making the vehicle difficult to control and nearly resulting in a significant accident with surrounding traffic. Fortunately, I was able to coast and pull over to the shoulder safely, avoiding a collision. No warning lights illuminated prior to the incident, and there were no other noticeable symptoms beforehand. The vehicle was towed to Classic Kia in Texarkana, TX, where technicians diagnosed engine seizure with no oil present—a clear symptom of excessive oil consumption and cylinder wall damage linked to faulty piston oil rings. During a call with Kia on September 16, 2025, they confirmed two prior recall repairs in 2021 and 2022: one for Recall SC209 (NHTSA 21V-259, addressing piston oil rings in 2021 Seltos with 2.0L Nu MPI engines) and another related repair not directly tied to SC209 but addressing similar engine issues. These repairs failed to prevent the defect, as evidenced by the seizure. This matches the piston ring defect in SC209 and the expanded Recall SC336 (NHTSA 25V-099, covering 2021–2023 Seltos), which can cause seizure and fire risk. NHTSA’s 2025 audit of Kia’s engine recalls notes ineffective fixes, with owner complaints of post-repair failures. This incident posed a severe safety hazard, as engine seizure at highway speeds risks crashes, injuries, or fatalities. I urge NHTSA to investigate this as part of the audit and compel Kia to provide a permanent remedy, such as engine replacement or vehicle buyback under warranty/lemon laws. We bought a 2021 Kia Seltos new from Spitzer Kia Cleveland (June 2020) and kept up with regular maintenance. The vehicle is subject to two NHTSA recalls for defective piston oil rings (21V259000 in 2021 and 25V099000 in 2025; Kia SC209 & SC336). Component/system: piston oil rings and related engine parts. Vehicle is at Spitzer Kia and available for inspection. Timeline: [XXX] – Check engine light illuminated (solid). Dipstick dry. Dealer said likely recall issue. [XXX] – Vehicle brought to dealer. Staff first acknowledged probable piston-ring issue and possible engine replacement. Later same day they switched to an “oil consumption test” requiring us to drive 1,000 miles—possibly three rounds (3,000 miles total)—before they will even consider replacing the engine. We must top off oil ourselves during this time. Safety risk: Driving thousands of miles in a recalled vehicle with known oil-consumption defect could cause engine seizure, stall, loss of power, or fire, endangering us and others. Inspection/confirmation: Dealer inspected the vehicle 9/12/25. Manufacturer (Kia America) also contacted and gave same response. Warning lamps/symptoms: Check engine light appeared [XXX]; low oil level, no external leaks noted. We do not feel it is safe to comply with the driving tests. Dealer threatened to tow our car if we did not pick it up. We have complete service records, recall notices, and correspondence available. My car has stop many times in highway running 55mph or 30 mph. It will completely stop my car has almost 15000 miles a 2021 kia seltos. I turned in my car to the kia dealershop to get check and they diagnosed a lot for so many things and have me pay to replaced the car’s battery. I had my 3year olf child when that happened The dealer just pushed it that it was the battery but its not. My car has only 15000 miles. they also ordered a pad crash main even whwn there was no accident happened. It is a critical safety of my component. For a very low milage car that has so many problem i think this is not good. The engine will stop when i pressed the brake and automatically refresed all warnings will show mainly engine light. it wont turn on when i pressed the button. It happen many times
Was driving home and vehicle started to sputter shut off. There were no warning lights or messages. Took to the dealership, who was aware that there is history of this with Kia, but my VIN was not included in recalls.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled but restarted. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the Inspection Station for a yearly inspection, which confirmed an upcoming recall, and was unable to be repaired. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received the notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and requested the oil change records. The contact was able to provide records for a year. The manufacturer declined the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
In January my husband was driving the Kia and it broke down. We took it to the mechanic and they said it was completely out of oil. Spent $5,000 on getting it fixed in a couple weeks later find out there's a recall. Took the Kia to the dealership in Ocala. They and told us there was nothing wrong with it and that they fixed it. It also makes noises when you turn the car on. to this day we still have to put oil in it almost every day. And it still makes a weird farting noise when you turn it on. I even asked mechanic in Ocala if it made that noise. He looked at me like a was stupid haha. And then I asked him what would happen if we still had to keep putting oil in it. He said we shouldn't have to.
The contact's daughter owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and it was acknowledged that the failure was a known issue. The dealer recommended that the vehicle no longer be driven and remain with the dealer for additional diagnostic tests. The vehicle remained with the dealer unrepaired. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); which was linked to the failure. The contact stated that several attempts were made to reach the dealer and the manufacturer about the recall repair; however, an update on the repair was not yet provided. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was 33,621.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle decelerated. A dealer was contacted. The failure had occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (ENGINE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to cover half of the repair in January, but recently only offered to cover twenty percent of the repair cost. The failure mileage was 65,000.
My car just stopped working while driving on the road. It wouldn’t crank up/ the engine wasn’t operating and the car wouldn’t accelerate. It’s been over a year since my car hasn’t been working. I took it to the dealer and they said the engine wasn’t consuming the oil or something of that sort. No lights came on before it’s like it just went out. It has been inoperable ever since. This was June 2024.
In April of this year I took my 2021 Kia seltos to Ourisman Kia of Fairfax (10601 US-50 Fairfax, VA 22030 United States). I took it there to get the piston oil ring recall taken care of, or at least looked at. They said it could take a couple of days so I left my car there. They had my car perked in a lot about a mile away from the dealership for a week or so and on April 19th they called me and stated that I could come pick up my car because it did not pass the recall. They stated that the recall was not available at this moment due to how many engines were back ordered. They stated it would take 3-6 months to get the engine in and do the actual recall. 4 months pass with no word from the dealership at all, so I call them Thursday August 14th at 11:21am, and I was told by Marko that my car had passed the recall and that I no longer needed the recall done. He then told me that the engine had never been ordered. My car sat in a lot for a week, untouched. I get told I need a new engine. Then I’m told I no longer need a new engine. I’m terrified of what could happen to my car, myself, and my passengers if my engine were to catch fire like the recall says it could. The fact that I was told my car needed a new engine and then without retesting my car that dealership says that I don’t need the engine anymore is beyond unprofessional and sketchy.
I took my car in last Wednesday to have the recall remedy done I was told my engine was fine my car sat up after that until Monday when I turned it on the check engine light came on and I was told after checking that cylinder 2 was misfiring and apparently my car was in fact not okay. My car went in on Monday and has been sitting in “being inspected “ status since yesterday. I have called and texted multiple times and can not receive and answer as to what is going on nor did they give me a loaner so I have been with out a car for 4 days now. The service department does not answer nor return my calls and just keep routing me to scheduling who apparently can’t tell when what’s going on either.
Kia replaced a recalled part on my vehicle related to the engine — specifically tied to the known piston oil ring defect. Before this recall repair, my vehicle was running ok with a couple time the car had completely shut off while Driving. This was back in 2023 and 2024 and was told to just add oil by the service dept. Immediately after the recall service was performed like drove it off the lot and place was already closed, the engine light came on and will not shut off, I also noticed a strange engine noise and the car leaches and can not go past 55mph. I advised the Kia dealership, and they informed me that it has nothing to do with the recall fix they did even though i did not have these issues before bringing it in and e to look it and said they would charge me over $100 to diagnose and then it would all be out of my pocket. The recall letter explicitly stated that if these symptoms were present — including excessive oil consumption or engine stalling which i have both and have been told in the past and documented to just keep adding oil in between oil changes — Kia would replace the engine at no cost to the customer. I even called kia and explained this to them to no avail and no help. Despite this, Kia is now refusing to uphold that promise and is not replacing the engine, even though the vehicle now displays all the symptoms outlined in their own recall documentation. This is both a serious safety concern and a failure by Kia to comply with recall obligations. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and could potentially cause a serious accident due to unexpected engine shutdowns at speed. I am requesting an immediate investigation into Kia’s handling of this recall and their failure to fulfill the engine replacement they promised in writing as part of the recall terms.
I pulled off the main road into the Walmart parking lot. When I did, the vehicle shut off, no power and steering was very hard. I was able to steer into a space and safely park. Vehicle was towed to Victory Kia in Victoria. Service dept said there was no oil at at all in the vehicle. Vehicle was recently taken in for the Kia engine recall about 3 months ago. Was told I needed an software update and oil change to remedy the problem. I got a full synthetic oil change. The vehicle burned all the oil off. No low oil or oil warning light ever came on. Now, Kia wants me to pay for another oil change and diagnostic and drive the vehicle for 1000 miles to see the outcome. Which, if/when the motor dies out again, then I'll be stranded again, hopefully not on a freeway this time. It's crazy I have to be a guinea pig for Kia to see if when the car dies out again, hopefully it don't catch fire this time when all the oil burns out like it did last time
On June 5, 2025, Kia replaced a recalled part on my vehicle related to the engine — specifically tied to the known piston oil ring defect. Before this recall repair, my vehicle was running smoothly with no issues. Immediately after the recall service was performed, the vehicle began shutting off while I was driving, and I also noticed a strange engine noise. I returned to the Kia dealership, and they informed me that the engine is now consuming oil — a known symptom directly linked to the same recall issue involving oil ring failure. The recall letter explicitly stated that if these symptoms were present — including excessive oil consumption or engine stalling — Kia would replace the engine at no cost to the customer.
Odometer Fraud. The contact stated that the used car dealer had provided a 2021 Kia Seltos loaner vehicle to the contact while the contact's vehicle was being serviced. The contact stated that the loaner vehicle was returned to the used car dealer for service with an odometer reading of 111,000 miles; however, after the loaner vehicle was returned to the contact, the odometer reading was 69,014. The VIN was not available.
The engine on my 2021 Kia Seltos failed due to a jumped timing chain shortly after having the piston rings replaced under recall SC209. The vehicle is at a Kia dealership and available for inspection. On July 14, 2025, I contacted Kia Consumer Affairs to follow up on a GoodWill request I sent on June 25th, 2025 and KIA verbally stated the engine had been approved for replacement. When I followed up on July 21 due to lack of communication, I was told the approval no longer appeared in the system. Since then, I have received no return calls, voicemails, or emails despite explicitly requesting that a supervisor contact me directly. I was also promised a 48-hour follow-up, which never happened. This failure occurred at approximately 110,000 miles, well before a modern engine should suffer a critical mechanical breakdown. The dealership confirmed the timing chain was the cause and that the prior piston ring recall repair did not resolve the issue. The failure was sudden and puts safety at risk—if this had occurred at highway speeds, it could have caused total loss of power while driving. I rely on this vehicle as a single mother and have no alternative transportation. There were no warning lamps or dashboard alerts before the engine failed. Performance issues were present, but no early system diagnostics caught the problem. Kia’s inconsistent communication, lack of follow-through, and refusal to take responsibility after their own recall repair failed is unacceptable. I am filing this complaint to document the failure of the recall to prevent engine malfunction and the ongoing safety risk associated with this engine design.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the RPM fluctuated erratically before the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 42,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the dealer refused to perform the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled while stopped at a traffic light or stop sign. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that on another occasion, while starting the vehicle, the vehicle vibrated abnormally, and while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and an oil change was performed. The mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with camshaft failure, which caused engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the warranty was not covered because the vehicle had not received the oil change at a KIA dealer, and that the oil used was of poor quality. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Oil pressure light illuminated, extreme engine knocking, failed acceleration power and engine stalling while driving. Towed to dealership. Was told the vehicle "passed" the oil piston ring recall test and refusal of Kia to replace engine.
In late 2024 at 45,000 miles I noticed my 2021 Kia Seltos burning oil due to an extremely low amount oil being removed during an oil change. Who knows how long it was going on. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was told an oil consumption test needed to be done. The test showed after driving 2,134 miles, the car was down 1.2 quarts of oil. That should be unheard of in a 3 year old car with low mileage. I was told it is within an acceptable amount and I should keep doing consumption tests. After month of time waiting and hours spent doing multiple consumption tests, they still will not acknowledge the clear issue with my vehicle. I then discovered there is a Kia Seltos recall which my vehicle has all the symptoms of. They performed a sc336 procedure for this recall and you guessed it, I was told nothing is wrong. Here I am a year, and a half later giving up. I now just fill the oil myself every few weeks while I wait to see what else is going to go wrong. This is TERRIBLE business practice.
KIA AMERICA, INC. IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2021-2023 SELTOS AND SOUL VEHICLES. THE PISTON OIL RINGS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED INCORRECTLY, WHICH CAN RESULT IN ENGINE DAMAGE. Safety Risk ENGINE DAMAGE CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE STALL OR FIRE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH OR INJURY. After i was told about my recall i took my car to the Vineland new jersey Kia dealer. The look at my car and find 6 more recall. After I took mt car the dealer didn’t not fix my recall. Turn off my sign on my dash board told me to drive it. The next day my car engine stop working. I bring in my paper work with my oil change. Now don’t want to fixed my engine or replace me with whole new car.

The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the oil warning light illuminated. The contact pulled into a gas station and inspected the vehicle. The contact stated that during the inspection, the dip stick was dry, and the contact added 1 1/2 quart of oil to the engine. The contact stated that after driving 150 miles, 1 1/12 quart of oil needed to be added to the vehicle each time. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to parts not being available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Awd coupler which impacting steering and the car shuts off while driving , all the issues accured after recall work was done .Updated the software and the car started to have problems.
Vehicle having issues with A/C. Engine light comes on and gives code P0070 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit "A". Replaced A/C sensor and issue persists. Took to local mechanic who determined it was a circuit in the control module. Repairs should be covered under manufacture warranty. Car is currently at local Kia dealership for inspection. Dealership stated they might not cover, even though it is under warranty.

I have been trying to have my 2021 Kia Seltos serviced to complete the Safety Recall # 25V099. This is for the Piston-ring Noise Sensing System and oil ring check. I have had the vehicle at the dealer twice without it being completed. This is in regards to Jim Shorkey Kia Wexford, 10785 Perry Hwy, Wexford PA 15090. 724-741-1197. Prior to receiving the recall notice I asked the service rep at the local dealer who said that "Consumption of one quart of oil every 1000 miles is normal." The car had probably 20K miles on it, it now has 30K. Shortly after I received the recall notice from Kia (dated April 4, 2025) I called Shorkey Kia to schedule the recall service. It was scheduled for May 7, 2025. I dropped the car off the evening before (5/6/2025). Later in the day of May 7 I realized that I had a voicemail from Shorkey Kia from two days earlier, on May 5, stating that the appointment was cancelled due to the recall process being halted. The process was to take two days, one day for the car to sit and the service the second day. I was told that they needed to figure out a quicker resolution so that the service performed was not as extensive. I picked the car up that evening and was further told by the service rep that too many engines were failing. I called Kia Customer Service who confirmed that the process was on hold. On 5/20/2025 I received a call from Kia Customer Care advising that the recall process has been fixed and that I should call to reschedule the service. They provided a Case # of [XXX] I called and made an appointment for May 29, 2025. I dropped the car off the evening before at around 6:30PM (May 28, 2025). It was a cool, rainy evening. The next afternoon I received a call from Shorkey Kia Service advising that they, yet again, could not perform the recall service. I was told that the coolant temperature was reading 82 degrees so it couldn't be tested. I picked the car up and haven't heard from them since. The car prior to the locked engine it ran well without any problems. While driving the car all of a sudden it began to stall. The car began to make a really loud clanking noise before the engine locked up. Due to the circumstances a mobile mechanic was called out to the location to assess the situation. The mobile mechanic completed the diagnostic with a car reader to which it displayed code P0011 code. To ensure it wasn't the car's battery the battery was replaced with a new one thinking that would remedy the situation of the car not starting. However, once this was completed the car wouldn't start again. Per the mobile mechanic conclusion, he stated that the engine was locked up. The car was towed to KIA Sunrise - Sunrise, FL on February 15, 2025. I inform them of the problem that the engine was locked. They stated that they would perform a diagnostic for an authorization fee of $250.00 to which I agreed for KIA Sunrise to do the diagnostic on the car. Based on their conclusion they attested that the engine was locked up as I had informed them. I mentioned that there was a recall on the engine of KIA Soltos 2021 due to engine failure at that point they stated that KIA Corp office had yet to send them notification of the recall relating to the engine failure. They stated for me to wait till April 2025 when the recall for the engine failure would have been received by them from Corp to which I did however, by then I was informed that they now wanted an additional $500 for a diagnostic. KIA Sunrise, stated that due to the engine being locked up they wouldn't look into it until $500.00 was paid however, they refused to take into consideration the $250.00 that was already not long ago, which based on the communication that was had they stated that was the authorization amount for them to do a full diagnostic knowing that the engine was locked up. However, at a later time they wanted more money to do a diagnostic on an engine that was still locked up.
Rick Case Kia Coral Springs, FL refused to do an engine recall since it wasn’t a profit to them and refused to do the service on the recall since they said they are independently owned and don’t have to follow main Kia
The contact owned a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving at slow speeds and approaching a stop sign, the engine seized. The contact was unable to coast to the side of the road and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the dealer refused to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to the residence. A mobile mechanic arrived at the residence and diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was repossessed. After some investigation, the contact related the failed to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised contact that there would be an email from the manufacturer. The contact stated that the manufacturer had reached out via email; however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
Issue started to occur around 40,000 miles, when excellerating from a stop to about 30mph and when turning vehicle will feel as if it’s grinding or clunking in the front power train area. As miles increase on vehicle issue seems to happen more frequent.
Complaint about KIA Safety Recall 25V099 I'm writing to let you know my concern about the safety recall I got for my Kia Seltos 2021. I received this letter on April 14th• and I took it to the dealership as soon as I could, to Federico KIA, at 1911 East Edwardsville Rd, Wood River, IL, 62095. I dropped off my car on April 17th and I was given a rental car the next April 18th and told that my car needed a new engine. Federico Kia kept the car for almost a month with no ETA for a new engine, according to what I was told by the Dealership by call. Then all the sudden on May 12th I get a call saying that my car was ready, I go to pick it up the next day, and no information was given to me about what was done to the car, after I signed the paperwork. Then I found that no change of engine was done and that only they did a "RETEST" and passed. I took the car and felt different vibrations and sounds coming from the car. I call them after it, and they said that all it was done according to Kia instructions. On May 14th I called Kia's Customer Care Center phone number and told them about it. They instruct that the situation was strange, and they agreed with my concern of "Why would they keep a car for a month saying that a new engine was required, and now all of the sudden the car was good, and that I had the right to go to a new dealership and ask for a new test" On May 19th I went to Lou Fusz Kia, at1025 N Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132. I was about to drop off my car, they agreed to take it, until they saw in their system that I already did the test for the recall, I explained to them my situation, but their answer was "we are going to get the same results from the test and also there's going to be charge from until, since you already had one". I don't have any light popping up on my dash for now, but I don't like the noise coming from the engine, but Kia seems to not care about it. Also, I feel very unsecure now, after they had my car for a month, saying that an engine replacement was needed, and now by new test, it wasn't necessary anymore. This is the only reliable method of transportation that I have. And I don't like how Kia is handling this big problem. A malfunction from the piston oil ring can cause a big damage and even can result in a life-threatening injury.
The contact owned a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while his son was having the vehicle service, he was informed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The contact was unaware of any warning lights being illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact traded the vehicle. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised contact that he would be getting an email from the manufacturer’ however, the contact was still awaiting the email notification. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
Kia issued a recall for defective piston oil rings. The recall was performed on my 2021 Kia Seltos and showed that I needed an engine replacement. The day that the dealership tested my car Kia suspended the recall stating the test was inaccurate. When the recall test was reissued my car passed and was denied for a new engine. An oil consumption test was performed on my car and the results were that my Seltos goes through 2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. Kia will not do anything because I do not have records of 1 oil change that was done at my home. The recall stated the car is at risk for a fire hazard because oil could be seeping places it is not supposed to be. The car will also shut off while being driven if the oil gets below 2 quarts low.
My vehicle is currently in the shop at the local Kia dealership. Over the past week my vehicle has randomly stalled several times. The engine sounded like it was sputtering, and just not accelerating properly. The car would stall at low speeds while turning corners or pulling into a parking spot. I do not have the diagnosis as of yet but believe my vehicle should be considered one of the recalled engines due to its date manufactured and the current issues that are occurring. Noticed stalling at speeds 45mph or less. It's very frustrating with a vehicle having 82,000 miles on it. All mandatory maintenance has been done at correct intervals and now this. It needs to be reported.
Got to engine light error codes: P030100 and P030000. Happened 3 times: 1st time had loss of power and engine light flashed, could not accelerate, and vehicle shuttered. Took to world kia north San Antonio. They cleared the code. It ran fine for a while and same problem occurred. Took back to world Kia north. They had it quiet few weeks, finally got it back, they said they took it on a 60 mile road test no problems so gave it back. I drove it maybe less 2 hours after getting it back and the same problem happened loss power would not accelerate and engine light flashed but did not come on. Called Kia right when happened and brought it right back world Kia North and the service manager said to keep it running so they can see what going on, and they finally noticed the same thing. So it been at dealership since then.about month has past and it not been repaired yet. It been serviced every 5000 miles and been taken care of since I owned it! I have looked up how lot people with the S/X models have had same problems and many recalls on seltos and souls due to same problems. I’m a 100 disabled vet and having a vehicle get me to the hospital reg important. I was given a loaner car which was great so wanted to share this.

Related to the SC336 recall. My 2021 Kia seltos. I brought it in to the dealership before the recall. After the vehicle stalled on me. They did an oil consumption test on it and burns .5 quarts every 1000 miles still covered under warranty. Failed the piston ring noise test and now it’s passed the 2nd time they tried it. Still don’t have a rental car or my car. No leaks and burns oil I believe even more. Oil changes done on it routinely. Now they say it’s good to drive after they installed software. How does software prevent oil consumption?
My 2021 Kia Seltos has an active safety recall related to the engine (Recall #SC336). The dealership (Darling's Kia, Formerly Van Syckle Kia in Bangor, ME) scheduled a repair but canceled it due to needing a "software update." I was told there is no timeline for completion and that no loaner or alternative vehicle would be provided. I am concerned for my safety and transportation, as the recall affects piston oil rings that can cause engine damage, stalling, or fire. Kia consumer affairs acknowledged the delay but provided no resolution or support. This recall has been open for months and is still unresolved.
My car originally qualified for an engine replacement through the recall because it failed the test they performed. The engine is on recall and I have had a rental for close to 3 weeks. Today Kia called me and said due to changes in the inspection process and criteria for the recall my car no longer qualifies for the engine replacement and I need to return my rental and pick up my car. I refuse to put my family in an unsafe car because Kia figured out a way to get out of replacing the engine.

I took my car in April 16 for the piston oil engine recall. The Kia dealership said it need to sit for 24 hrs before test. The next day they said it failed. Then, the dealership said I need to replace all the hoses because it won’t adhere properly to the new engine . I receive a notification that my case was open for a new engine. May 9th, the dealership reached out saying they were still waiting for parts. Two hours later they said it needed to retest. Four hours later it passed and it’s ready for pick up. I never got the new engine even though it failed prior to Kia halting the recall. I am concerned for my safety.
Purchased kia in 2021- Car was taken in on April 24 for a recall. I was originally told the recall would take 2 weeks if it failed now South Hills Kia along with Kia can tell me anything. We are 2 weeks in the car I need to drive my elderly mother to her dr appointments with and not one person can tell me when I can get my car back or even a loner. My car has less then 33,000 miles -this is just wrong on Kia’s part and South Hills Kia for not supplying a car as they keep my with ZERO end in sight. Thank you
While driving the car stalls, lags and makes rumble sounds. It will stall and go down in revolutions from 3/4 down to 2 or even 1. It does this whether I am actively driving in the highway going 60 miles an hour or pulling of from a red light / stop sign. Is anyone else having this problem? Is very scary and nerve racking when in the highway going at 60 miles an hr and it just stalls and lags and takes a minutes to pick up speed

Kia North Austin service representative by the name of Christina informed me that the recall on this vehicle was postponed until further notice by mail. Word for word what she said. When I asked about more information the human representative repeated exactly the same thing back to me and said she couldn't schedule anything further.
I have had this car for about two years. A year ago I was having issues with the car stalling, and the check engine light. I took the car in and it was "fixed". I have to get oil changes very frequently, and still have to top up my oil in between changes. I made my appointment for this current recall. While waiting for the recall, my check engine light came on. My car displays all of the symptoms of the issues in the recall. I took my car in for the appointment on April 28th. They told me they would update me the following day after the testing. Kia called to inform me that the next day that the recall is on "halt" and they have no further information. My car has been sitting at the dealership since 4/28 with no further information. They have not called to update again, I've had to call them. They also have not checked into the check engine light. My car is under warranty so I don't understand how they haven't checked into that regardless of the recall. When asked about a loaner car they state they don't have any, and provide no assistance with getting one.

The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the manufacturer had put a hold on the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. After receiving the recall letter I immediately scheduled the inspection. After waiting for 2 weeks I arrived for my appointment and was sent home. The service manager seemed to have little information for me other than to say that KIA was reevaluating their inspection procedure. A couple days later I called the KIA support line and was told that the new inspection procedure had been established and that I should call my dealer to reschedule the inspection. I called the next day and the dealer told me again that all inspections are still on hold and seemed surprised that someone from corporate would have told me otherwise. I called KIA customer support back again that same day but got no answers. Others are reporting this same issue on various online forums. The feedback they are getting from their dealerships is that a large number of inspections have been failing and that KIA has decided to revise their inspection procedure so that more of them pass without requiring engine replacement. I'm not understanding why KIA has made a bad situation worse by leaving their customers in limbo concerning this major engine malfunction. It should have been a simple matter of scheduling the inspection, making any necessary repairs and sending their customers on their way. KIA has handled this matter very poorly.

Kia released safety recall letters on 4/4/25 (SC336). I requested the recall service from my local dealership immediately and was scheduled for 5/19/25, then called back to inform me that Kia has paused the recall without any estimate of when it can be remedied. I called Kia customer care and was told not to drive the vehicle if I was concerned, with no guarantee to cover a rental car if I needed it, and that my solution was to either be without a vehicle or continue to drive it with the risk of "loss of drive power and/or fire, increasing the risk of crash and injury." This is completely unacceptable.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH. The contact stated that the check engine and battery warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and turned off, and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechani,c where it was diagnosed that there was a hole in the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact believed that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
I received recall notice on April 4 or 5 and called my dealer and first appointment was April 28. I was told would be there for 2 days but system down so called me back on 30 telling failed the test and would need new engine which would be covered under warranty but could not tell when would get the engine and had no loaner cars available. My only had 19,000 + miles and had all maintenance done and had no problem whatsoever with it or any indication of any problem
Regarding: Manufacturer Recall NumberSC336 NHTSA Recall Number25V099 Car: 2021 Kia Seltos EX - I had an appointment to repair this recall with Kia for 5/6 which they cancelled on 4/30. The Service Dept told me they weren't moving forward with correcting this recall, even though it is still listed as active. - I called Kia Customer Service on 4/30 and they confirmed 1)this is still an active recall and 2)there was new communication being sent to service centers on either 4/30 or 5/1 and to reschedule on 5/1. - On 5/1 I called to make an appointment and was told I could not. I called Kia Customer Service and was told that the information from the prior day was wrong. Kia confirms this is an active recall but they are not currently correcting it. They cannot tell me when they may be able to, but more importantly they did not have a way for the customer to find out if they are correcting except to call everyday and ask. They don't know if they will call, email, send a letter to advise about the delay and next steps. - The safety risk increases the chance of fire or accident. I understand there may be issues on how to fix, but all I was asking is either a timeframe or for Kia to advise when I can get this fixed and they would not provide either. I just want to know when the car that I paid for will be safe to drive again. - I did leave a message with a supervisor at Kia Customer Service as that was my only option and was told I could get an answer in 48 hours. I have not received that answer.

Dealership called me to inform me they could not complete my recall due to a memo sent by the manufacturer today. I was told to pick up my vehicle despite the incomplete recall with its safety risks. I called the manufacturer to get further information as I was not comfortable picking up my vehicle and driving it if according to the recall campaign “ ENGINE DAMAGE CAN CAUSE A VEHICLE STALL OR FIRE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH OR INJURY.” Manufacturer and dealership spoke on the phone; manufacturer told me to just pick up my vehicle until the dealerships can resume completing the recall in the future. I inquired about safety risks and the manufacturer told me “it’s most likely okay”. Safety concerns I brought up were dismissed.
I received a recall letter for my Kia 2021 Seltos EX 2.0 dated 4-4-25 for piston oil ring and engine inspection. I checked my car in with a local Kia dealership on Thursday the 24th. Approximately, thirty hours later I received a call it passed inspection. On Friday I picked my car up and did my normal Friday laundry and went home. I’m talking about for the laundromat and my home maybe a total of three miles, if that, within the dealership. The car ran perfect as usual. On [XXX] I drove 15 miles to shop and dine out. On the way back my check engine light came on (solid) and the power was extremely poor and reduced. Didn’t think I was going to make it. I had planned on doing another stop before getting home, but had to pass and try to make it. My car ran perfect before this inspection and I did not want this inspection for fear something would go wrong, but felt I had no choice. So, I’m waiting to hear Kia say the inspection had nothing to do with your check engine issues. I understand Kia started its investigation in February 2025. I’m wondering if some of these investigations were done remotely by Kia? Strange during February I experienced a couple of glitches going on with my car while I was driving. First, the car did not recognize my seat belt was fastened in the driver seat. The fastened your seat belt icon flashed and that annoying ding noise went on for the duration of my drive, approximately thirty minutes or so until I got home. After it sat overnight it seemed to reset itself. Then, during this same month, I was taking care of my normal morning errands as usual. My start engine light flashed while driving, and that annoying ding noise again. The power reduced like my car was going to cut off getting through a green light. That straightened out immediately and there were no more issues with my car. Until this recent inspection. Do anyone know if Kia remotely inspected cars for the piston oil ring issue? Strange how after these glitches I received the recall letter. I’m just coming to learn about this current recall through the letter I received and further research. I want to know what are the immediate options besides dealing with technicians that probably don’t know what the [XXX] they are doing in the first place. I don’t trust Kia to be honest with the inspections or repairs at this point. Is there any other professionals with knowledge about this recall issue outside of Kia that can investigate and repair this issue without any of us paying for this? It’s time for options for outside opinions, inspections and repairs regarding this serious matter, other wise, we can expect this long, drawn out [XXX] nightmares to never end, as I have read the comments of others that have received their fair share of pure [XXX]. I am aware of [XXX] class action lawsuit against Kia regarding this recall, and for those that are similarly situated, and against Kia’s unprofessional and incomplete inspections and their failed repairs, and they supposedly knew of these defects, but sold these defected vehicles anyway. I’m 15 months into purchasing and enjoying my car until this failed and incomplete inspection, that may have caused some real damages now. Now my car is parked and out service again until the dealership opens on Monday. Purchased my Seltos with under 25,000 miles and now I’m at 33,000. I’m only a couple of days into this mess and want to know my real options to get this behind me right away. I have zero patience for this [XXX]. I don’t see these inspections and repairs getting any better. I have contacted a law firm for the lemon law regulations and waiting for a response. Would drive my car and the check engine light would come on and the car would basically lose power and could barely move it to safety!!! Called and wouldn’t be able to get in for a couple months. Happened again, got to the side of a road. Meantime, get the recall on the piston oil rings; determined the engine lights are related to this recall. Car into the Dealership and it failed inspections. Determined damage and new engine is ordered. NO ETA on new engine; just drive my car as is! What assurance is there my car won’t stall, crash or have a fire all while waiting for a new engine. Lost all faith in Kia with parts incorrectly manufactured. I feel this is jeopardizing the safety of myself and other KIA Seltos drivers and basically anyone around me if there is an issue/crash.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving, the contact noticed an abnormal burning odor coming from the engine. The contact checked the oil and found that the engine was low on oil. In addition, the contact stated there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil and the piston rings had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the last time the vehicle was at the dealer, a document was signed stating that the vehicle had passed the oil consumption test. The contact stated that the document was signed under duress because the dealer would not return the vehicle unless the document was signed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V099000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The vehicle in question has been experiencing multiple ongoing mechanical issues, including engine stalling, frequent brake replacements, frequent oil changes, a camshaft issue, and intermittent horn functionality. These issues have raised serious safety concerns. Despite multiple repairs and maintenance attempts at the dealership, the problems persist, affecting both my safety and confidence in the vehicle. I have incurred substantial costs for repairs and rental cars while trying to address the issues. However, the problems remain unresolved, and I am not receiving adequate support. I contacted the corporate office for assistance, but the representative dismissed my concerns and stated I would need to provide maintenance receipts, even though the dealership had already confirmed they were unnecessary. This response was unhelpful and failed to address my safety concerns. Additionally, the service manager at the dealership has not offered satisfactory solutions or alternatives to resolve the ongoing issues. As a result, I am no longer comfortable continuing with the vehicle. Due to my financial situation and outstanding loan balance, I am requesting a goodwill replacement vehicle or a reasonable alternative that will allow me to maintain my current car payment without a substantial down payment or negatively impacting my credit. A replacement vehicle, ideally of the same make and model or comparable, would help me meet my financial obligations while addressing the unresolved safety and reliability concerns.
Received a letter from KIA Headquarters stating a recall for piston oil rings and possibly engine failure. Inspection and software updates would take 1-2 hours, if replacing engine 8 or more hours. I made my appointment for today, arrived at Jone KIA in Bel Air, MD and am told that the letter is incorrect and I need to either leave my vehicle with them or reschedule. How many of the letters went out to owners and then we are told differently!
I bought my ‘21 Kia Seltos in 2021. Within the first months it would stall when going uphill and in parking lots. I had a few mechanics look and they could not find any issues. So, I kept driving it. I drive 12 miles one way for work my wife drives it 1 mile both ways for work. Now [XXX] 47k miles it stalled out 2x the 2nd time it stalled it started to fill with fumes and smoke with my [XXX] - and [XXX] in the car. My kids and I have had a cough ever since. I called roadside; they first thought was the battery. So, the first guy tried to jump the battery, and nothing happened then he said he smelled something electrical burning. But could not locate. Then he said they will send a tow. Roadside then sent another guy to jump the battery. he smelled the same thing, but he found the source and said that the airbag sensors were burning. So, he disconnected the battery and called the tow. The car was towed at midnight to Grand Kia in Northglenn where the service rep was working on my car called me that day to tell me that the engine had seized, and he would submit a warranty claim to have it covered. I provided all service records to him including oil purchase receipts. A week later he calls and tells me they denied the warranty due to “lack of maintenance”. So, I call Kia customer care and speak with A lady who tells me it was denied due to “aftermarket parts” which there were none. She said once that flag was removed, she can escalate this case to a case Manager. Then I call Grand Kia back and talk to the service rep who says that flag is not there. Then I call back Kia and a different lady tells me the case was escalated and to expect a call and an email from the case manager. I call 4/10/2025 and am being told there is not an escalation on the case. I get transferred to a supervisor line and after waiting on hold I had to leave a voicemail, still no returned call. All this while there is a safety recall out that causes my exact issue and the engine needs replaced. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine system appears to be malfunctioning. Specifically, there are signs of a potential head gasket failure, valve cover gasket leak, or internal engine damage due to oil leakage and excessive white smoke from the exhaust. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The white smoke obstructs rear visibility, which poses a danger to other drivers. The unpredictable engine revving in idle or park also raises concern for unintended acceleration or engine failure, which could cause a crash, especially in congested or residential areas. In addition, the oil leak poses a fire risk and environmental hazard. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the symptoms have been observed and documented consistently. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has not been formally inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time, but I am open to having it evaluated by any relevant party as needed. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lights initially. The symptoms began with mild engine revving at idle and a burning oil smell. The white smoke and oil leakage became noticeable shortly after. The issues have progressively worsened over time and now the check engine light is on.
Driving my car which has been fine no lights on dash, oil changes done regularly, and no odd sounds or leaks. I got onto the highway and lost all power so I immediately pulled off and turned off my engine. I got out and looked under my car to see all my oil pouring out of my car, had to get my car towed back to my place and had my mechanic come and just take a peek at it. He said it seems as if a piston broke and shot a rod through my engine. So I looked up my car to see the recall. I called the dealership and two different mechanics at the same dealership told me that they wouldn’t even look at my car unless I could show them proof of oil changes. I explained to them that I’ve done my regular oil changes and I’m not calling about a warranty. I’m calling about the recall and I was yet again informed that they wouldn’t even look at my car without those. I explained to both of them that I called corporate and corporate told me I did not need oil change receipts because this is a manufacturer issue not a consumer issue so I then called the dealership back and the mechanic told me that I was lying I did not talk to corporate and that he still won’t be looking at my car And pretty much told me and nicer words looks like you’re out of a car. This was about a month almost maybe a month and a half ago of going without my car.

I saw the recall on my car for the engine on this website. I brought it to McFarland Kia, where they told me this recall does not exist for my vehicle. I asked more than once and they told me there is nothing they can do, but I feel at danger if the engine in my car were to potentially catch fire.
My car was checked for a recall regarding the vehicle burning oil and the piston rings. The fix for it was a new engine. When my car was checked for the recall, it was determined to be unaffected by the issue mentioned. However, I got an oil change approx. 1.5 months ago and at this point I have had to add oil to the car on two different occasions since due to the oil burning so quickly. The oil is also very, very dark. This indicates that the oil is burning significantly regardless of the recall status. I find myself checking the oil weekly due to the worry that it will be empty. The recommended mileage in between oil changes for my car is 7,500. I have not been able to wait that long since obtaining the car 2 years ago.
I brought my vehicle to the dealership due to serious safety concerns, including the engine randomly shutting off while driving, sudden unintended acceleration, unresponsiveness when pressing the gas, difficulty turning the key to start the engine, loud noises while running, and the engine, battery, and oil lights coming on. This is the second time I’ve brought the vehicle to the Kia dealership for the same issue. The first time, I was told the transmission had been replaced and the problem was resolved. However, the same issue resumed shortly after I got the car back. I called the dealership that day but they were already closed, so I dropped the vehicle off the next morning when they opened. At drop-off, I was told no repairs could begin until the recall was “officially” announced, but that they would look into the issue and keep me updated. Unfortunately, I never received any updates and had to reach out myself multiple times. This morning, I was told the sensor lights showing were “old codes” and that everything seemed fine. They said they’d take the car for a test drive and that I’d have it back by the end of the day. No one called me back. I followed up around 4:30–5:00 PM and was told the service department had closed, but the notes said that after the test drive, more codes appeared and the vehicle would require additional work. When I first dropped the car off, I was told I’d have it back the next morning, and if not, I’d be provided with a rental. Neither happened. When I expressed that I didn’t feel safe driving the car—even if the test drive went well—especially after a mechanic told me he wasn’t sure how to fix the current recall, I was dismissed. As I was saying, “Okay, just call me after the test drive so I can come by and check it out,” Greg hung up on me mid-sentence. This entire experience has been frustrating and concerning given the nature of the issue.

The vehicle was then taken to a dealer and diagnostic test was pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact, that due to maintenance service records inconsistency and maintenance service not performed at the dealer, the vehicle would not be repaired under the recall. The contact was informed there was no oil in the engine and an oil change was performed. The dealer informed the contact that an assessment by the engineers on the cause of the failure was not yet provided. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Decrease of power when pushing on gas peddle, a smell of burnt oil coming through vent. And since risk is very high on this engine component of possibly setting fire to car, and or ceasing thay may cause a crash. I would not like my wife to drive this vehicle knowing it could be a neglegent hazard that could cause injury or bodily harm to owner or other drivers near the vehicle. Very unsafe dont want to play russian roulette with my life or the life of others. There is already a remedy set forth by the company so why now is there none?

On Monday Jan 13 when I was merging onto the interstate the car lost power and started smoking; I almost lost control of the car. I steered the car to the side of the interstate and I had it towed to Brakes Plus (where it had just had an oil change on Jan 6) at my expense for an immediate diagnostic, where they found that there is evidence of oil passing into the combustion chamber through the piston rings that caused engine failure. I asked the dealership repeatedly through email for an inspection report and an explanation as to why the engine failed.

I was driving down the highway going 65mph when my car would not accelerate any more in the middle of the highway where the speed limit is 65. At one point I could not get it to go above 30mph. I pulled off to the side and when I tried driving off again my car would not accelerate. Towed to Kia, they did a software update thinking it was fixed. Picked my car up and drove 10 miles before it broke down on me again. Towed to a second Kia dealership, new transmission was put in. Picked it up 4 days ago, and it is stalling, and jolting when accelerating and the check engine light is on. It is at the 3rd Kia dealership, where I was just told I may need ANOTHER transmission replacement. I asked about the engine recall after getting an email from Kelly Blue Book about it. Kia said they did not know how to fix the recall yet and there was nothing they could do about it right now. I have been without my car for almost 2 months, and this is the 3rd Kia dealership trying to fix the issue at hand and not getting anywhere.
Kia has been serviced like clock work since drove off showroom floor. Nothing but trouble since hit 10k miles. It uses oil. I am having to put at least 1/2 quart between oil changes. The engine knocks and pings like it's no oil or thin oil. No oil leaks visible. I should not be having to add oil let alone the sounds the engine makes.
The car constantly thumps or bangs. Since 15,000 miles. I have had Kia dealer investigate but nothing. The suspension is horrible.
I own a kia seltos 2021 with 2.0 engine wich is 4 cylinders, but my vehicle from las 70k miles is been burning oil to the point that I have to keep checking oil level every 1000miles otherwise my engine is turns super hot and burn oil when I try filling up also make a loud sound on the exhaust and smell like burning oil.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
Transmission failed at 37k miles..noticed when the car was sluggish. Open the hood and the coolant reservoir was black. Kia replaced transmission but thinking about trading it in
My car has an issue holding oil. I have had to put quarts of oil in often and it makes my engine knock. It also makes my car lose power while I am driving. I know this is a common issue with these make and models.
Horn stopped working. This puts me and passengers at a safety risk as I am unable to alert other drivers and/or pedestrians to potential dangers that could result in reducing the chance of a crash. I am also unable to use the horn to ensure proper security of my car. As the horn also works for my alarm systems to indicate the vehicles locked status. I also cannot utilize the horn as an emergency warning when the panic button is pressed on a key fob. The problem was inspected and determined at my local shop. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. The horn stopped working on Jan 29, 2025
The Seltos started losing power driving on interstate, started smoking and then lost all power and would not start. We had the car towed to Brakes plus where we had an oil change as of recent, they confirmed it was piston ring failure and the engine was done for. The car has just over 28,000 miles on it. Kia dealership and warranty is avoiding to state that it was indeed the piston rings failing. They simply said it needs a new engine and are demanding maintenance records and receipts. My veteran father has performed most of my oil changes, he was a military mechanic and ASE certified mechanic for over 20 years. Since I didn’t personally purchase the oil used, I don’t have the hard copy receipts they are demanding. Kia refuses to acknowledge that the engine failure is that of the same issue with many other 2021 Seltos that had piston ring issues during manufacturing.
When the auto engine start/stop button is on and I’m stopped at a light, the infotainment system will constantly restart as will the engine once I let go of the brakes. It usually happens when it is cold outside. This is a safety issue bc a lot of the time I am using the navigation and since the infotainment system just restarted I am waiting for the navigation to reboot and I am now driving without knowing where I am going. It doesn’t seem to happen when I turn off the auto engine start/stop button. Sometimes, I’ll be in an intersection, and the engine will restart bc the infotainment system restarted. Last time I almost got into an accident bc I was trying to accelerate but the car hesitated bc it restarted the engine and radio. There seems like there is a sudden loss of power. The dealer supposedly updated the software for the infotainment system but it did not correct the issue. There is no warning lamps or messages when this occurs
While driving at low speeds, the vehicle would stall, no engine lights or warnings would appear on the dashboard. After turning it off and back on, it would run but stall again shortly later. An unfamiliar foul odor appeared from the dipstick as I checked the oil. Car only has 60k miles on it. Engine is throwing codes for cylinder 1, cylinder 2 and crankshaft.
My 2021 Kia seltos has a flashing engine light and when put on a code reader it indicates a misfire/ piston. This has been going for two weeks . My engine is a 2.0 and the recall for this vehicle has the same incident as mine. The engine keeps shutting off
Came to a stop at an intersection on a busy highway, went to accelerate and turn left when the transmission locked without warning. Vehicle would not shift into gear.
Transmission unreliable. While crossing a 4 lane highway the engine revved but would not engage.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard an audible pinging sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an oil change was performed. The contact was informed that the oil level was low; however, there was no indication of an oil leak. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. In addition, the contact stated that the oil consumption was unusually high and again there was no indication of an oil leak. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving 65-70 MPH on the highway, the engine was revving but the vehicle failed to respond as needed before shutting down. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, opened a case, but provided no additional assistance. The contact called the SAG Office and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
I was at a stop light and when the light turned green the car i took my foot off the brake and placed it on the gas pedal, but the car wouldn't move. Almost like it shut down. I had to restart it to make it go. It ran but not the same.
Hello, I received the anti theft software update on my Kia last year part of the nationwide recall. Today, I had to use my steel key to open the car door and when I did, it started ringing the alarm. The car was unable to start without pressing the open button in my key fob. I had to replace the key fob battery in order for me to get into my car and drive it. I have a steel key, not push to start.
Engine oil burning to quickly. Have replaced two quarts between oil changes.
The Engine. No? The engine blew up at night in the middle of a busy highway. Leaving the vehicle powerless and overheating. Yes. No, there was no immediate indication of an issue until it occurred.
The check engine light turned on and my 2021 Kia Seltos stalled as I exited the highway. With seconds, my vehicle turned off, and I was unable to restart it for a bit.
This happens everyday while I’m driving. The vehicle hesitates and grinds when you try to accelerate and prevents you from going forward. It pulls the car back in yanking motion. Which is extremely dangerous.
Two times in the last week, my engine shut off/stalled while driving in traffic. The check engine, battery and oil lights came on because the key was still turned. I had no other warning, I just couldn’t accelerate and had to coast to safety. Both times I was able to safely pull over and turn the key to restart the car and get home. I am currently at 63k miles and just got an oil change. My last oil change was in March 2024 at 58k miles.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle briefly jerked before returning to normal functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was diagnosed with transmission failure and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact also stated that the transmission had been replaced 5 times; however, the failure had not been resolved. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 19,000.
I’m not really sure what the problem was. I feel like the car may have lost power and I lost function of the car / brakes. I’m assuming it’s either an engine or electrical. Warning lights came on. Prior to losing function, the vehicle felt like it was sorta puttering. I’d give it the gas and there was a delayed, and then jerk forward. There’s a vibration sound that happens when I go around 15-30 miles an hour. Not sure if it’s related. It’s being looked at on June 24. I had to turn off the car and restart to gain control.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle started shuddering. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing to replace a piston ring in a cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was told the engine needed to be repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,927.
The engine stalls and or dies when breaks are applied. Yes, it was confirmed by dealer. Engine light came on. Has been in shop. Car only has 97,000 miles. They are refusing to honor extended warranty even though other Kia Seltos engines have the exact same problem that are under recall. These are engine sensor problems ... they have nothing to do with "oil changes" that they claim were made late (One)
My car is burning through oil.
You are driving with all windows up in Florida with the temperature outside from 70's to 90's Degrees with AC on cold and running and suddenly car displays the temperature outside -39 Degrees and the car starts blowing very hot air that fogs all windows within seconds and daughter is unable to see. Car has been taken to Kia of Leesburg, FL more than 5 times. Dealer has changed the temperature sensor and checked the wiring, but the vehicle is still doing the same. Daughter almost had 3 major accidents because of this with 3 year old in the car. Need NHTSA to investigate this and push KIA of America for resolution. Has happened multiple times and we have it on video.
The car initially had electrical and engine issues since may of 2022. The engine would fail mid drive and the car would turn of in the middle of driving and would lock up until engine would restart on its own. It stayed at the dealership for repairs until march of 2023. After many modifications and alterations and several new engines and transmission changes they returned the car to me on march of 2023 assuring me it was fixed and there would be no issues. Several weeks later while driving on the highway, the engine turned off mid drive, I lost control of the car entirely. Brakes wouldn’t brake. Car crashed into highway median. And upon impact none of the airbags deployed. The car continuously put myself and passengers at risk at the beginning of its failing. The car of April 2023 severely injured me. I was the only passenger at the times thankfully. Since the airbag never deployed my face, chest, ribs, arm, and neck were severely injured. It’s been almost a year and im still physically affected by the crash.
See attached document for complaint
The contact's daughter owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that his daughter was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that his daughter was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated during the failure. The contact stated that his daughter drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine piston oil rings had failed and damaged the engine. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine). The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,736.
My Transmission Temp light goes on when I am in slow traffic going on an uphill road. I need to pull over and let it cool down, This has happen in Mountains in Colorado , So it is cold outside. Both times i need to get a tow due to the fact there are no places to pull over on single lane road. it takes approx. 1 hour to cool down and i can only drive 100 yards before light comes back on. I have brought to Dealership twice in last several months and they tell me there is nothing they can do about it. This is a Major safety hazard.
Car cannot operate in reverse. Error code P060194. Forward gears are questionable.
Car is burning oil to the point the engine light comes on between oil changes. This is the second engine they have put in this car and still doing it. They did engine oil consumption test and say it's not burning over a quart every 1000 miles. I've never in my life had a car burn oil like this. They said Kia won't do anything about it.
After about a hour and a half of driving the car began to surge between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM. This has happen and few times but the last time the transmission lost high gear. The car had to be towed to the dealerships. The dealership is stating there is nothing wrong. I feel this is a safety issue.
The vehicle was sputtering and then shut off and would not start. I called KIA and had it towed to Dealership. They called several days later stating there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Then several weeks later getting on the turnpike it sputter and shut off. I was able to get it started again and repeated the same sputter and shutting off an additonal 2 times on the turnpike. I was able to get the vehicle home to my drive way. The tow truck came and could not get it to start. He towed it back to the dealership. This time they replaced the fuel injector. The mechanic advised KIA that this issued caused scoring on the cylinders. KIA authorized replacing the fuel injector. KIA claimed scoring on the cylinders is normal. You don't have to be a mechanic to know this is. not normal and over time will lead to engine failure. KIA will not replace the engine. My case # is 15929784
My wife went to work 11/23/23 and the car died in the intersection, she would have been going 5 to 10 mph, the engine light came on. She was able to start it and return home. I made the appointment at Bob Lanpheres Beaverton Kia and the inspected the issue. It is reported to me that, “Boroscoped cylinders and found vertical scoring on the cylinders. Performed compression test and all cylinders are under spec” They replaced the engine, The total costs was 6486.65$. My research has shown me that a recall was issued for Seltos engines from this year and after talking to Kia and online my engine is not qualified for engine reimbursement because the manufacturer date was beyond the range of the recall. I feel this is wrong as the description from the repair shop and recall notice are identical and that the recall should be expanded. This page will not let me upload photos, I have a copy of the dealers findings.
esta quemando aceite de motor muy rapido y antes de tiempo. mientras se utiliza esta lento y cuando sube cuestas muy pesado tiene que hacer mucha fuerza.
Car stalled when at complete stop (at lights or stop signs) The auto restart feature seems to fail. Then it progressed to stuttering while driving and unable to drive above certain speeds (more than 40 mph). Service engine light on. Code by dealer P0017.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 78-80 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact stated depressed the accelerator pedal to the floorboard however, the vehicle failed to respond. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine threw a rod through the oil pan, which drained the oil, and caused the engine to seize. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced under warranty; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 49,281.
Engine began knocking and would stall on turns. Check oil light briefly flashed. No oil visible on dipstick about 2000 miles after oil change. Placed 4 quarts at home and was full. Stalling and knocking resolved. Brought to dealer and they said nothing wrong. Changed oil and did 1000 mile return to dealer to check oil consumption rate. The oil was about a quart or less low and they said this was normal, nothing to do. After 2000 miles oil level again checked and no oil visible on dipstick. Took photos of oil level each of these times. Called dealer and they towed it in. They confirmed that it is burning excessive oil and said it’s several quarts low. They say that they will now try to perhaps “soak” the engine? They have to check with Kia for approval. Not sure what this means. It is now with the dealer and we have no car to drive. They are not sure how long they will have it and have no loaner. We are obviously concerned about the safety of this engine/car which has just over 30000 miles and is running out of oil prior to recommended oil changes and was stalling intermittently when this was first discovered. Obviously concerned that engine will seize and be ruined at some point in essentially a brand new vehicle. The dealer (Preston Kia) denied any issue initially. I have read about ring issues in seltos engines requiring engine replacement. It seems that a similar problem is occurring here and I hope that Kia will do the right thing and repair/replace the faulty parts/engine. There are many similar complaints on line.
While driving I noticed my Seltos felt like it was shifting hard. I then attempted to put it in reverse. There was NO reverse. I had to get bystanders to push me off the road. This is a safety risk because there were no warning signs that reverse would fail to engage. Kia states there is no recall, but several of same instances were found in forums. My car is scheduled at dealership next week. No rental, no recall, no warranty. I will have to pay out of pocket for something that has been known to fail. Supposedly an actuator of some sort. This repair will be costly and I feel it is a manufacturer responsibility. This is not normal wear and tear item. I bought this used, it was practically new. Now I know why someone traded it in. Kia should disclose their warranty limitations when they advertise. The 10 year, 100,000 mile is not a true representation.
My 2021 Kia Seltos EX is eating oil.......... 1/2 quart a week at least and I have read online that it can lead to the engine overheating, stalling, etc. So far my car is not listed on the piston recall or any other recall, but how can Kia state it can go 7,000 miles between oil changes when it only holds 4 1/2 quarts of oil and goes through it so fast? I change my oil every 3,500 miles because of it but am still afraid of something bad happening to my car.
2021 Kia Seltos possibly already had the recall work done in Florida before purchasing it used with only 18000 miles. It has stalled, once dying completely. Trouble gaining acceleration. Losing oil. Multiple oil consumption testing visits to dealership of 1000 miles each to continue showing Kia it loses over 1 quart per period. Now the glow relay engine and misfire engine codes are pulling which indicates engine damage after dealership has just last week replaced new spark plugs and oil change. It has been rough idle and ticking - knocking sound the entire time, which they denied the morning after purchase.
bought as certified pre-owned from a very large dealership in Clearwater. Driving off the lot there was a bad wobble and shake from corner to corner of vehichle. Took in day 2 of ownership to dealer to have them reinspect it and they let me drive away home too come back the next day after service manager started the car was completely safe to drive because there was no loaner car for me the day they promised me one ..five days in service and not hearing a word from the service department I stopped in and asked about my car. to have the tech say it ended needing and entire front CV axle and bearing because the bearing and axle had a lot of play in it! I've emailed multiple times and no one yet has called or emailed me back! bought on 9/02/2023 serviced 09/03/2023 to 09/15/2023 .. . then on the ride home it still feels like there is a wobble from somewhere in the front of the car
I've owned this car since it was new. I've been disappointed with the transmission. At low speeds, it will hesitate and shudder. This is especially true if I'm making a turn. This has been a consistent problem. Secondly, twice my transmission has overheated. The first time we were in a Halloween event during the Pandemic 2020. It was a drive-through event that was stop-and-go. The warning light came on with the gauge showing one bar over the limit. As luck would have it, the traffic started to move towards the end and it lowered the bar to just under the overheating bar. The second time this happened it was much more serious. I had four people in the car. We had just left a restaurant and were heading towards the freeway. Unfortunately, we got stuck on a hill in Hollywood Bowl traffic. We were stuck there long enough that my car shut down on the hill. We were blocking traffic and my wife got out to direct traffic around us. I tried to put the car in neutral and coast towards an open curbside parking space. It wouldn't budge. We spent what felt like an eternity blocking traffic. It was probably 4-5 minutes where we were unable to start or roll backward.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the engine seized. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the crankshaft had cracked, causing oil to leak from the vehicle. Additionally, there was an unknown sensor that was faulty. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 9,800.
My vehicle appeared to restart itself (dashboard lights turned off and immediately turned back on as if the car had been started up) as I was a approaching a red stop light toward the end of a 1 hour/60 mile commute. This is the 3rd time since I've had my vehicle (purchased in October of 2020) that I've had an event like this occur while driving. Currently waiting service appointment, 2 weeks away 1st incident, within the 1st 6 months of ownership, cant remember the exact date: Vehicle appeared to restart as I turned left at a green light. 2nd incident: Vehicle appeared to restart itself whilst driving on highway (thankfully no traffic/other cars on the road at this time, but I was doing 70+mph at the time). Shortly after this incident, I called the local dealer to setup a service appointment about this issue. Service was unable to to replicate issue. They looked for whatever codes that might lead them to the source of the problem, but none found. Was told to monitor bring vehicle back in if it happened again. It's seems to look like some sort of electrical/computer glitch that causes the car to do this. It happens inconsistently (different driving conditons) and infrequently, but is a major safety issue.
My kia engine light came on during a drive and the vehicle would not shift gears (it would stay stuck on 1st). I manage to park and realize that it was not shifting to reverse either. I check the temperature and it was 4 lines below the middle which is normal. My car has proper maintenance and just came out of the 30,000 miles maintenance and is less than 3 years old.
The engine is knocking very lauding and the car is using lots of oil but isn’t leaking oil anywhere. The car shuts off at random times when the knocking of the engine is very loud. Sounds similar to the other recalls regarding the same year seltos that have had a engine recall
3 Teenagers were able to break a window, enter the car, Start the car without use of a key, and drive the vehicle. Rear Windows breaking do not trigger anti-theft alarm. Car is able to be started with out use of the key. Car is able to be driven with out use of a key. Was able to catch the incident of film and it took only 5 minutes for it to be stolen.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while attempting to drive away from a stop light at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was slow to accelerate. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. No warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure; however, the mechanic became aware oil on top of the engine block. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS SHOUT OFF ON ME 4 TIMES EITHER WHILE STOPPED AT THE LIGHT/ STOP SIGN . APPROACHING A LIGHT AND OR STOP SIGN WHILE SLOWING TO STOP. IT APPEARS TO BE THAT PART OF THE SYSTEM THAT SHUTS DOWN OR OFF THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO CONSERVE GAS IS MALFUNCTIONING THIS CLEARLY BECOMES A SAFETY RISK DEPENDING ON WHERE THE CAR IS POSITIONED AT THE TIME OF THE SHUT DOWN, SLOWING TO MAKE TURN OR STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. AT THIS TIME I WILL BE REPORTING THIS ISSUE TO THE DESALERSHIP, THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY ANYONE AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT HERE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS ACTIVATED PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF. At the time I did not think to copy the dates, times , mph or mileage of the vehicle but the information on the screen instructed me to put the vehicle in park to restart. this a very scary situation in traffic .
My 2021 Kia Seltos S was not a part of the original recall on Seltos & Soul vehicles. My check engine light came on and now my car has been at the dealership for 3 weeks waiting for a new engine. The front collision will randomly activate when there are NO other cars around. It applies the brakes when you are driving at speed on the highway. Luckily no cars were behind me. My seat belt has also malfunctioned. I connect it and the warning light keeps beeping & flashing even after I try repeating the process. This KIA is a keyed Kia. And although Kia has recently created an Anti-theft software update, that comes about 14 months too late. My car was stolen in Jan 2022. This morning I hear that Kia is having exploding air bag issues. Don't know which models are affected yet, but it would not surprise me if my car is included. I do not feel safe driving this car with all of the safety issues I have.
5/18/23 My car shut off with the stop/go feature and would not turn back on. Was able to start once I removed the key and tried again after a few minutes. This again happened to me once I got to a gas station resulting in the same issue today 5/19/23
My car was stolen 4 times due to KIA not installing an immobilizer into my car. My Window was broken all 4 times to get to the car and never did my car alarm sound during this time.
When driving the vehicle the motor will randomly shut off. This is a safety hazard and has been happening more and more. I thought it was supposed to do this but only when stopped. It now is doing it while driving and I have almost been rear ended 3 times now. The car is not drivable.
Two issues with my vehicle: 1. When driving and stopped at a red light, the stop/start technology will engage, turning off my engine. Upon the light turning green again, my foot comes off the brake to hit the acceleration but the entire dashboard/electrical system restarts like the car has just been turned on. It has done this mid-driving (foot on the acceleration) as well; killing the entire electrical system. No warning lights or messages appear. 2. When driving longer distances (20+ miles), sometimes the vehicle engine will not turn off. I drove a distance of about 20 miles; got to the destination, parked the car and hit the start/stop button to turn off the engine. The entire interior electrical/dash was off but when I hopped out of the vehicle, the engine was still running. I have to re-enter the vehicle and turn it back on and off just to get the engine to turn off. No warning lights or signals appear. The dealership won't fix my issues; says they can't recreate the problems but I do have video evidence that the problems exist. It has happened periodically since I purchased my vehicle, a 2021 Seltos SX, in March of 2020.
A deer was hit at 60mph with frontal impact. The collision warning did not alarm, however after the collision, the light was illuminated. The airbags did not deploy. The front end damage was estimated at nearly $11,000 but no airbags deployed with this high rate of speed and impact.
Car has a serious rod knock since 7000 miles. They say nothing is wrong. Plus the engine burns a qt of oil every 600-800 miles.
Bought vehicle new. At 30,000 miles, oil change came up off the stick. KIA did oil consumption test. Said it was within industry standard. Just had another oil change at 36,000 miles. Off the stick again.
RECALL INFO: 21V-259 recall for inconsistent heat treating process for piston oil rings. The dates for use of the recalled piston rings Nov 20,1019 -Oct 15, 2020. My Seltos was in production at the time the damaged oil rings were used. I took my Seltos in for the repair, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT repaired. A vibration test was done and a program update was installed to detect vibration. The vehicle still has the recalled damaged oil rings. Received a recall notice for Piston Oil Ring in summer of 2021. I took the car on July 20, 2021 for recall (21V-259). Kia's number for this recall is SC209. Piston Ring Inspection performed; Vibration scan completed. No parts replaced. During one of my oil changes in October 12, 2022, oil change shop had noticed sludge build up and recommend that I receive their engine cleaning service, so I did and thought it was strange as the mileage was at 41,250 and my last oil change on 6/20/2022 the mileage was at 37,723. In November of 2022, the vehicle began stalling at stop lights - no service lights present before or after the car stalled. I called the dealership immediately, they could not look at it until November 2, 2022. Report came back as unable to verify customer concern. BUT the paperwork shows another update regarding the oil piston ring. On January 30, 2023, the car stalled again 3 times on my way to work and then stalled for a final time and would not start. None of the Kia dealerships that I have contacted (including where I purchased the car from) are willing to do anything about this. The car is not drivable and I'm still making payments on a car I can't use. Kia REFUSES to provide me with the tech-line paperwork that determined that my car was not covered under warranty. I've been advised to hire an attorney.
A Unknown component has failed with the vehicles fuel system. The service center at the Kia Dealership was unable to clear the associated Check engine light after numerous attempts. This is the Third time I tuned in for this same reason. The First time they attempted to resolve by replacing O2 sensor. After a Few weeks the Check engine light returned. Then I was told it was my Spark plugs. After one trip from dealership to home the check engine light appeared again. I returned to service center and it has been there for over a Month. Kia corporate scheduled a Tech to come and Assist with the problem. I am deeply concerned that my safety may be at risk for a Faulty fuel system that may fail while I’m in route to work. I work for the Utility 74 miles away from home and I am an Essential worker to the great city of New York. I support the Transmission cable systems reliability and respond to emergency directly with this Vehicle. I am requesting assurances that I will not be the first of many in a future realized safety recall. The Company has had Many most recently with these kind of fuel system failures if my memory serves me right.
Our 2021 Kia Seltos with 19K miles, stopped running at 55 mph. The engine also started producing a slight knocking noise. The dealer asked for maintenance records for proof of oil changes. We provide them, but we have been getting the run around from both dealer and Kia Corporate, each telling us that the other has denied our claim and and now have been denied a repair once again after 8 phone calls.. There were no warnings, light or over temp indicated on the dashboard. The engine actually still runs. They have told us that the oil was low and that there was sludge in the valve cover. This engine apparently consumed 4.5 qrts of oil in 4K miles. The warranty oil change for this engine is 7500 miles of which we complied with as indicated by the invoices we submitted. There is known and documented problem with oil consumption with this engine. Please advise...Thnk you [XXX] and [XXX]. [XXX]. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Engine is consuming or burning oil. 2.0l. Left me stranded on the road.
I HAD MY OIL CHANGED ON 1/31/23; FULL SERVICE WHICH INCLUDED THE OIL FILTER. ON 2/7/23 I TOOK MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AND I WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT THE OIL WAS LEAKING (SEE ATTACHED LINK) FOR VIDEO https://59366-3.iserviceauto.com/bb86c72ec423e6b2cf9b4cb7be840d0c071f0280 WHICH WAS RECEIVED FROM LAFONTAINTE TOYOTA HYUNDAI KIA SUZUKI SCION. IF I HAD NOT TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR THE TIRE ROTATION I WOULD NOT HAVE KNOWN THE OIL WAS LEAKING AND ENGINE DAMAGE WOULD HAVE RESULTED. NOW I AM GOING TO PANIC EVERY TIME MY OIL IS CHANGED. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE OTHERS EXPERIENCE THIS CATASTROPHE. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS AND IS NOT A RARE OCCURRENCE.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the sunroof shuttered without impact. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,268.
The engine started to misfire which caused sever shaking of the car. This resulted in the car being difficult to drive and inconsistent engine power. The car was inspected by a Kia dealer and it recognized the codes upon scanning of the misfire. The Kia dealer moved spark plugs between cylinders and said it was fixed.
Two weeks after the car was repaired for a misfiring enginer, the car started misfiring again, luckily this time prior to starting to drive on public roads. Car was towed back to dealer and they replaced spark plugs; picked car up from this fix today.
Re: 11501726 Following up from Friday January 13, 2023 After submitting my first statement, on Saturday January 14, 2023 I went to get an oil change and documents of oil change history. I was advised to go directly to Luther Kia Inver Grove Heights immediately after my oil change appointment was finished. In the entrance of the Kia Luther lot my engine failed and locked up. Gravity allowed my car to coast into the first open parking spot within that lot. Monday January 16, 2023 Kia Luther confirmed the engine will need to be replaced. I was advised to call Kia customer care.
While entering a roundabout, the throttle was released and brakes applied. Auto start/ stop light came on. Loud grinding occurred and all light notifications came up on the dashboard. Resulting in the car completely stalling. After putting the car in park it struggled to restart. Once it did, with more loud grinding, the oil was checked by a technician. The oil was almost completely gone. No leaks were present. After replacement of the filter and new oil added, the grinding and whining noises are consistent from the start time, running time till it is shut off.
Excessive oil consumption. Oil level is below the dipstick before 3000 miles since last oil change. This issue can lead to engine seizure and vehicle stopping ing traffic. This issue has been identified and recalled in Canada but not yet in the United States.
1. October 2022 started noticing when stopped for 15+ sec. electrical dash/and screen completely restart when transmission would come back on from being in off position. Happened also while releasing seat belt. 2. Horn would malfunction and go to voice command when pressed or not work at all. Very intermittent. 3. Gears not shifting smoothly, car is jolty, not accelerating well, and getting a slight grinding feeling, running rough, missing shifts or not shifting until it revs high. *no warning indicators have illuminated. My dealer suggested doing an "software update" which did not correct the problem and they are unresponsive otherwise. I have had vehicle in 3 times and each time they just weren't prepared or had no plan to remedy. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer and I have also take a video of the issue. It is available for inspection. Safety is a concern considering the electrical issue plus the seat belt and horn. Unsure if the electrical system is reliable during a crash and if my safety belt and airbags are effected.
The contact’s girlfriend owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started to stall while idling. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine was consuming an abnormal amount of engine oil. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to have the vehicle towed to the dealer, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
ON 11/26/22 I was driving down the road my Kia Seltos showed error messages on the dashboard saying ERROR and then Power Train off, the car then shut off at 55 mph and smoke filled my cabin, I got the car pulled over and called the fire department, there was no flames just smoke and smelled like electrical. It was then after 2 weeks taken to a dealership where they inspected the car and stated the fire was in the engine and the engine needs to be replaced. After doing research on this car and the issue there were at least 4 other complaints filed with KIA AMERICA about this issue
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that the low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after every 1000-miles of driving, she had to add 1 quart of engine oil to the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an oil consumption test was performed. The contact was informed that the piston rings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
2021 Kia Seltos ~50,000 miles. My horn doesn't work. I live in Tampa, so definitely need a horn. Also my infotainment center is trash. It works perfect about 30% of the time. The other 70%. Oh well where do I start? It will completely freeze, the screen turns black, when I get a call in, oh boy that's a showdown. It'll freeze, then I have to grab my phone, and answer it. Can't even use the BT (Bluetooth) in the car, I've used both Android Auto, and Carplay. It doesn't matter it's still terrible. It's unresponsive to touch about 90% of the time. Absolute trash. I've only had this car for a few months (I'm the second owner), and I can see why that last owners got rid of it. I've had nothing but issues out of this car. If I wasnt screwed by the dealership and payed 20k more than it was worth, I would have done traded the stupid thing in. I'm honestly thinking about trading it in to a Tesla, and just transfer all the negative equity over. Yea it'll cost an arm and a leg, but atleast I'd have something I'd like.
My car door flew open while I was driving. Car did not recognize that my door was open. The locking mechanism on the driver side of the vehicle seems to have given out. Cannot close driver side door.
Motor stalled while driving down the road almost causing an accident with my son and wouldn’t run again on my brand new Kia Seltos right under 37,000 miles. Towed the car to the dealership & they said the motor was blown they insist it’s my fault because I can’t provide a receipt for an oil change in a 10month period. I purchased brand new with and extended premium KIA warranty and they won’t do anything, sorry we can’t help you. They say all they can do is replace the motor while charging me $7,600. The motor never had lights flashing with oil pressure, overheating or any alerts it just died while driving down the road.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle would stall upon depression of the accelerator pedal as the battery, oil, and check engine warning light illuminated. The contact shifted the vehicle into park(P) and restarted the vehicle and the vehicle drove as needed. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed but no failure was found. The contact also stated that the horn intermittently failed to operate as needed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.
My kia model is excluded from the piston ring recall but is exhibiting similar engine problems. The engine stutters nearly stalls and smells of oil frequently.
transmission overheats in stop and go traffic as well as daily driving
My kia seltos 2021 is 47k miles and all ready have a issues whit a misfire on piston at position 4 this is the 2.0 L version and I call the dealership for see what is the problem because I notice that when is time for oil change it comes only with 4 quarters of dirty oil. And also when star the vehicle in the morning for go to work, it make a strange sound. I hope is nothing bad but kia needs to fix this problem with the engines.
Today 9/7/2022 I was driving down a hill going about 55mph, when all of a sudden the car started jerking all of the warning lights on the dashboard came on (ABS, ACC, AEB, BSW, FCW, LDW, and the LKA). So essentially all the cool features. The vehicle then popped up a warning decrease speed immediately. Ever since then the car is like in a limp mode thing where it will not allow me to drive over 35mph. It continually jerks, and shakes. It stutters. Absolutely ridiculous. I haven't even had this car long enough to make the first payment. It feels like the back wheels lock up while driving, I'm not sure if they are but it feels like it. If I weren't in debt 40k on a car that's worth about half that (yes the dealership screwed me over). The guy I purchased from (mind you this is at a kia dealership) he is no help he refuses to answer me. I even called the main store to get ahold of him, and he refuses to talk. The service department refuses to help. I will NEVER buy another kia. This is my first and definitely last. At this point I honestly don't even know where to take it to get it fixed because they're the only kia dealership within about 100mi.
I was driving the car at a speed of approximate 30 mph. As I was slowing down for a traffic light, the car jerked backwards. The car braking system engaged without me touching the brake. When I took the car in for service, I was told they could not duplicate the issue. I took the car in after receiving the recall. I was assured all was well with the car, though I was having issues with the car stalling out at traffic lights. I took the car in for service and was told by the manager that they could not duplicate the problem. I became so frustrated with the car that I insisted the manager get in my car and drive it with me until the problem presented itself again. He did and the car stalled out on him 2x. They kept my car for two weeks and called me to tell me that the car had no oil in it. I told them I got a recent oil change at another KIA dealership, so the issue was not my responsibility. No check engine light or oil light ever came on to notify me of any issue. KIA kept my car for over 2 weeks. They installed a Camshaft, Exhaust, Tensioner, RTV Gasket, and engine bracket, retimed the engine, replaced the hydraulic tensioner and resealed the timing cover. I continue having problems with the car. It sputters, stalls at traffic lights and sometimes when shifting gears. I have not been able to resolve the issues with the car even after involving a senior administrator, Ariston Crane, in their consumer affairs department.
CAR IS BURNING OIL AT AN UNUSAL RATE. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO KIA DEALER AND THEY KEEP DOING WHAT KIA TELLS THEM TO. EVERY TIME IS IS 1-2 AUARTS LOW JUST AFTER 1000K MILES. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 38K MILES ON IT AND HAD UNDER 36K WHEN STARTED TAKING IT TO THE KIA DEALER TO GET INVESTIGATED. THEY HAVE DONE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST; THEY HAVE DONE INTAKE CLEANER SERVICE AND IT IS STILL BURNING OIL. NOW, THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THEY ARE CONTACTING KIA TO SEE WHAT IS NEXT STEP. THE CAR IS ONLY 1 YEAR OLD WITH 38K MILES.
I changed the oil of my Kia Seltos EX (not turbo) at 14,750 miles and was alarmed to discover it was 1.5 quarts low. I proceeded to check the oil level every few weeks. Here are the results: 16,307: Needed to add 1 quart 17,100: Needed to add 3/4 quart 18,632: Needed to add 3/4 quart 19,348: Down 3/4 quart - I changed the oil Kia states that burning 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles is 'normal,' and thus has no plan to address the issue. This was never the case with the Hondas and Toyotas we have owned. At that rate you would run out of oil between service intervals and the engine would seize. I have read of several such cases on this site. I am recording this oil burning issue here to warn others of this unusual oil burn rate. You need to check your oil regularly and top it off between oil changes. I am also recording this here since my Seltos is not included in the current recall, but it is clearly having similar issues. The NTSA needs to expand this recall and get to the bottom of this issue. Kia needs to address this unacceptable oil burning issue in their engines.
The vehicle when stoped at a red light or even a stop sign and you go to accelerate it putters out and we have to turn the vehicle off and then back on again before we can move. This has been happing multiple times in the past few weeks. This is the vehicle my wife uses for work and to haul our children in. To make things worse the engine last night looked like it was smoking when she got home. So I opened the hood and checked the oil level and realized there is no oil. I replaced the oil and drove it to work today to see if anything happens only once did it stall out and made a crazy clicking high scratching noise. But when I arrived at work I checked the oil level and again no oil. I called Kia and was informed it’s not listed on the recall and the earliest they can get me in is 8/18. Okay all good but this is dangerous to drive and the oil is disappearing it could catch fire. All I got was it not on the recall list. I don’t care about that I care about blowing up on the highway!! It’s only got 25k miles. So now I have to call around and see who can get me in asap before this vehicle breaks down and I’m really screwed.
When I start up my seltos after not driving it for hours the engine sputters to the point it almost dies. When I put it in reverse it will either stall or start bucking. And when in drive the transmission will get stuck in a specific gear until I manually shift it.
As I pulled into a busy road my car did not accelerate to speed. It got to approximately 20 mph and would not go any faster. The traffic I was pulling into was traveling at high rates of speed. There is a recall on this vehicle stating the same problem. I am being told my engine type is not listed. They are blaming lack of oil changes and low oil. There were no warning lights stating low oil. The car is equipped with such warnings.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, an object fell from a vehicle ahead. The contact stated that while attempting to switch lanes, the Blind Spot Detection system returned the vehicle back into the lane and the vehicle struck the object causing damage to the front mid-section of the skid plate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission and fuel injectors had failed three times since owning the vehicle. Both parts were repaired twice under warranty; however, the contact was recently informed that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.
On our way to New York from Indiana when every light on the dash came on. The rpms shot up and down. Was able to coast off the highway IN Corsica IN. Car was towed to nearest kia dealership in Butler PA. The transmission went out on my car that has roughly 7100 miles on it. Dealership has ordered the transmission for replacement.
When driving long distance, (over 5 hours) all of the emergency lights and collision warnings appear on the dashboard. The traction control begins to activate on its own. In dry, good conditions with no rain, I believe it’s the drivers side front wheel that’s engaging traction control while at high speeds of 60-70 miles per hour. The vehicle was dropped off at the dealership and they attempted to replicate the issues but could not, they mentioned that another customer had the same issue, we left it with the dealership for about a week. Our safety was at risk due to the fact that the brakes are engaging sporadically at high speeds.
Transmission fails at 25,000 miles I have no reverse, Transmission failed at highway speed almost lost control of the vehicle. Had no acceleration temporarily when I slowed down, transmission came back into drive but engine was sputtering. When I got home I realized I had no reverse. It’s a 2022 kia seltos SX all wheel drive 1.6 liter turbo model
Engine Failure - Oil consumption - Piston issues - Scorched Engine At 24K miles noticed knocking from engine - called dealership took it in. Died in the parking lot of dealership. - Service tech said engine was super low on oil - but I was 500 miles away from oil change. Dealer started a consumption required by KIA - Had to drive vehicle in 1000 mile increments and bring it back each time. (Risking it dying on the road each time and risking my safety) 1st trip back oil 1 quart low - refilled and started 2nd round 2nd trip back oil 1 1/2 quarts low - kept car - cleaned pistons 3rd trip - almost did not make it back at 800 miles started acting up but dealer had no loaner cars and KIA said I would have to rent one and they may reimburse me. Get car into dealership - low again and this time they took the next step and engine was scorched. No warning lights ever went off the car just started making loud knocking noises and performance decreased. Now awaiting a new engine. Not only does a safety recall need to be issued for all KIA's (as this is evidently a known problem if you research) KIA needs to be required to re-evaluate their process of confirming the issue - 3 times they put my life at risk of the car stopping while driving. Unfortunately all of the paperwork from the dealer is the car which is in the shop awaiting the new engine on back order. Jones KIA - BelAir Maryland will have all service records.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the transmission began to rev uncontrollably as the steering wheel started shaking without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle began to hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal and stalled without warning. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to a gas station and called the dealer to have the vehicle towed. Once the vehicle was towed to the dealer, the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The dealer and the contact notified the manufacturer of the failure but the manufacturer offer no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 4,700.
Let's start off with the minor stuff 1st my passenger seatbelt does not work secondly my hands free my hands free connection on my radio disconnect automatically on its own and won't let me reconnect it I bought a connected about a new phone thinking that was a problem it's not it's the car lastly lastly I Was driven down the road lost all power to my car it was all the oil in it I refilled the oil while stopping her again this time with no brakes could have caused a serious accident I took it to Kia for repairs the engine has failed
2021 KIA SELTOS S - ISSUES 1. The engine was stalled in the road without notice. When I started the engine again, it is vibrating and shaking (05-04-2022) 2. Engine has strange knocking sounds. Car has struggle to move when pressing the pedal accelerator (05-05-2022). 3. Loss power on engine, brake was not working. Car run very slow 4. Engine light is blinking while driving from work to home. When I arrived home, car is not started (Laguardia Airport New York to Home in Hazlet NJ - 53miles) - (05-05-2022) 5. Car has only 19000miles. 6. Please note, the car has a recall on the piston ring that is not done. Vehicle Owner / Driver: [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I drove my car less than a mile when the check engine light illuminated on the dashboard and issues with accelerating the vehicle started. The rpm needle moved when I pushed the gas but the car itself did not. Once the car was turned off it started but would not move or rev when the gas was pushed in any gear shift P, R, N, or drive. My car had just hit 17,880 miles when this issue occurred. This would have been a greater safety issue had I been on the road with other cars, there was no warning, or issues in the days previously with my 2021 KIA SELTOS. I’ve personally only driven it for about 8,000 miles as it was just recently purchased from a Hyundai-Kia dealership. The car was towed to Kia Service center and has been serviced for 32 days and counting. The manufacturer and dealership service center initially took majority of the time for diagnosis which included completing an oil change which was due, performing a technical service bulletin, and then a transmission tear down. About a week ago they ordered a clutch actuator. I was advised just recently this did not fix the issue so they’re now discussing a transmission replacement.
Seatbelt fastened and while driving seat belt light will start flashing and beeping. Sometimes unfastening and refastening turns it off, other times it keeps flashing/beeping. Does not happen every time I am driving
The contact leased a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while his son was driving in traffic, he heard an abnormal banging noise and noticed smoke emerging from the engine compartment. The driver was able to pull off the road and exit the vehicle. The vehicle spontaneously caught fire and was engulfed in flames. The fire department was on the scene to extinguish the fire. The driver did not sustain any injuries. There were no police reports filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent lot. The contact called the local dealer but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000. VIN was not available. The contact stated the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number 21V259000 (Engine).
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the horn was inoperable and inaudible. The contact indicated that the failure was discovered while driving on the freeway when a commercial vehicle drove into the contact’s lane and the contact was unable to alert the driver. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.
My 2021 Kia Seltos lost pick up pulling out of parking lot at work. Limped it to a parking lot and had it towed to Kia. Spoke to service guy at Kia dealership today. He claims that my oil was low and dirty and needs to be changed every 4000 miles (manual says 7500). I told him this and he said thats only if I use full synthetic...says it on the sticker in window and receipt. Full synthetic was used. They will change the oil but they feel its an engine issue and since the shop that did my oil change did something wrong (according to them), it wont be covered by warranty. This is a 2021 with about 11000 miles. Oil change was done about 4500 miles ago. He claims that my warranty would not cover this due to low oil. Oh and not one warning light came on. NO OIL LIGHT, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I was reading about a recall that I never got a recall letter on because according to VIN # my car isn't included regarding improperly heat treated piston oil rings that causes engine damage and excessive oil consumption. Sounds like exactly what is going on with my car. I certainly cant afford a new engine out of pocket and don't believe I did anything that my warranty should be voided over. I need help!
This car was recalled for issues with oil piston rings receiving incorrect "coating" when made. Our car passed inspection to verify the recall issue didn't exist however the car was two quarts of oil LOW. After going through Kia's required oil consumption testing (no oil on ground by the way), we await Kia's decision on a full engine replacement on our 2021 car. Before bringing the car in it stalled unexpectedly in various scenarios, on freeway, going up hills, parking, and coming to a stop. Also the engine was making major noises, clicking, sounds like a diesel, and screeching noises when stopping. The safety issue of stopping was explained by service manager as due to lack of oil.
Car was put into park and the car kept moving, turned car off to stop This has happened 2 times.
I was coming to a stop sign and I started hearing a knocking sound. My car flashed the check engine sign and then shut off with the battery and engine oil light flashing. It smelled like something was burning. I started drifting back so I had to pull the parking brake, put on my hazards and turn off my car. I tried to start it 2x without it turning over. On the third try, the car started and the lights on the dash resolved except the engine malfunction. I was unable to accelerate above 45 MPH on a busy highway and it eventually stalled out again for a second time in the middle of a highway. I was almost rear-ended twice. Same lights came on- engine oil, battery and check engine light. I turned it off and turned it back on- it reluctantly started and was shuttering the whole time. I was able to get it into a parking lot before calling KIA road side assistance. I had it towed to the nearest dealership who was supposed to look at it the next day, Di d not hear anything back until the 3rd day when I called. I was informed that they would not be able to look at it until the following week. I was able to get it towed to the dealership closest to home, where I purchased the vehicle. They looked at it and informed my that there was no oil in the engine and the the engine would need to be repaired. I never had an oil light come on until the vehicle stalled out. They are saying that because there was no oil in it, I was not keeping up with the maintenance and that it voids the warranty. So now I have to come up with $10,200 to replace the engine block. My car only had 25,516 miles on it and had 3 oil changes prior to it shutting down. The last oil change, I was informed that my car was using more oil than it should but that this was not cause for concern. I am beyond frustrated. I have been a loyal kia customer for years and am disheartened for being accused of not caring for my vehicle, despite having provided receipts from oil changes and no am without a car.
For the second time in the past month the car would not start. Appears to be due to a dead battery however the dealership has been unable to locate a problem. Looking online and it appears to be a issue that Kia is aware of but not owning up to. This is my wife's car and should she get stranded her personal safety could be at risk. The dealership did admit that there could be something like an electrical component that stays on and is causing the drain but they said it could take a long time to find it or they might never find it. The car has only 8700 miles on it. We recently saw a recall on other kias that are catching fire. Could this be a similar component that is draining our car battery?
The contact leased a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, the vehicle stalled with the engine oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that with each failure, the oil level was low before the next scheduled oil changed. When the first failure occurred, the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and oil was added. After the second failure, the dealer informed that contact that oil was discovered on the spark plugs and that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced however, the failure occurred for a third time. After the third failure the contact took the vehicle to Gary Lang Kia (1121 State Route 31, Building 3, McHenry, IL 60050) and he was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact made multiple attempts to reach the manufacturer but had yet to be receive a response. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the last dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000. The VIN was not available.
My 2021 Kia Seltos shut off while I was driving it. This happened once in July 2021, I was at a stop sign and I attributed it to not driving it in a while and the extreme summer heat. But on January 31st, I had turned my car on, I let it “warm up” and then I started to drive. To my surprise, as I was driving my car shut off. It first felt like the gas pedal was hardly working then the car began to slow down and I had no control over the acceleration or breaks. Then, the check engine light, battery light, and oil light all appeared on my dashboard and the car came to a complete stop. And all functions on the car were not functioning. Fortunately, no other cars were around and I wasn’t injured. I was able to restart my car and drive back to a driveway with the engine sounding louder than normal and the only the check engine light on. From there, Kia towed my car to the dealership, ran a diagnostic check on the engine, checked the sparks plugs, drove it 25 miles. Since the problem didn’t occur while they had it, I have been informed “nothing is wrong with my car”. I called Kia customer service and was informed that despite the similar claims on this website, no recall or issue had been formally filed for kia to take care of. I questioned what the next steps would be and as of now I am left to continue to drive a car that shut off on me.
I pulled up to a busy intersection which had a stoplight that had just turned red. As I was waiting there, all of a sudden my car just died. The engine stopped and no electrical was working either. There were no warning lights or messages at all. I tried to start it, but to no avail. The cars shifter was also locked in the drive position. I turned the hazard lights on as I was trying to figure out what was going on. My safety and the safety of my children, who were in the car at the time, was put at risk as drivers behind me were growing impatient as light turned green and I couldn’t move. There were no warning lights that went on prior to the car failing, or after i got the car started again. On about my fifth try of trying to start it, the car slowly started up again and I was able to pull into a nearby parking lot.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while stopped, the fuel-saving system would turn off the engine however, whenever the brake pedal was released, the engine failed to immediately restart. The contact then had to turn off and restart the vehicle. The failure had occurred on multiple occasions. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
Along with hundreds of others who have had their KIAS stolen, my 2021 Kia Seltos S was stolen on January 11th at approximately 3:30 p.m. from a busy Walgreens parking lot in Milwaukee Wisconsin. In under 5 minutes of being in the store, the back passenger small window was smashed and the car was accessed. My two kids backpacks and school laptops and my son's cell phone were in the vehicle as well when it was stolen.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Altos. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic several times, he was informed that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact also stated that the vehicle was making abnormal rattling sounds while driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine). The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the piston-ring noise sensing software would be installed. The contact declined the installation of the software and advised the dealer that the piston rings or the engine should be replaced instead. The recall repair was not completed. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Safety System Failure. MY CAR WAS STOLEN TODAY. Even with a Club on the steering wheel. it was gone in minutes. Why do thieves look for Kia's? Because they know they can steal them fast. Shame on you for not putting better practices in place to help prevent this, or deter them at least or slow down the process at minimal. My car is a 2021 with less than 5000 mi on it. How am I going to replace this with the money I will need down and the deductible if I need repaired? you should be held somewhtat repsonsible for your lack of theft precautions put in place.
Im on my 2nd kia and im so over it. I have a 2021 kia seltos and i took it in for the recall and my scheduled maintenance for july 9th 2021, I scheduled my app a week out and i had been noticing my engine running strange off and on for awhile but its a new car so i thought i was being paranoid until i saw the recall. Then the day before my appointment the check engine light comes on. I checked the oil and it didnt even register on the stick, had my dad also check it to confirm! He added 2 quarts to it just to get me to the next day. Take it in and tell them my light has come on now and that its been running rough. When they call they say nothing, pick up my car they tell me nothing! The notes say the piston oil ring was performed? What was performed? It passed the recall test? What are they looking for? Why was my check engine light on?! And then i read in the notes that the oil was dirty and 3/4 of a quart below fill mark. It also says .i have a maintenance package on a new car..i take it in when im supposed to and only to kia. It also said cel is not on at this time and ran fault code "p0011- intake timing over advanced" stored as history and that they cleared dtc reset adaptive values and further diag will bbe required if dtc returns..no one seems concerened why i have a code stored in history or why the light was on one day and off another. It still sounds terrible most of the time and the oil level is magically decreasing and no signs of a leak took it in 10/6/21 and they say they check it out and that nothing is wrong and send me on my way. 12/6/21 go in for oil change multi point inspectionand winterization and they tell me they also need to check a recall...all good again. 12/30/21 driving my car and my check engine light starts flashing while im driving about 55. Its at the shop now! Im beyond stressed and heated over this. I have 2 toddlers i drive around in this car. I need it to be SAFE and RELIABLE! Im paying way to much for this car to be dealing with
The entire electrical system (display, gauges, exterior lights, etc.) resets while driving. This may be a one off or may happen several times in a few minutes. The engine never stops running, which is good as this happened in the interstate. In the dark, this could be dangerous as the headlights and taillights go out for a moment. I am not aware if this is easily replicated or if this poses issues to other systems.
The car shut off completely while driving without warning. The car was restarted and the check engine light turned on.
The car sometimes will be locked in park and unable to move. Sometimes the dashboard lights up with all error lights and auto shuts the car off in the middle of driving. Sometimes on the highway, the speed notifier goest to 0mph when I am going atleast 65-70mph.
July 2021, While my son and daughter were driving the car engine shut off, the brakes, the gas pedal and steering wheel locked. The vehicle was on a slight incline and rolled backwards. My son quickly pulled the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle from going into the vehicle behind him. The vehicle was restarted and all the problems were gone. We brought the vehicle to the dealer. They checked and found nothing wrong and could not recreate the problem. At the same time the dealer performed the recall 21V259 (letter dated 6/11/2021) which was rectified by performing an engine vibration inspection which passed. At that time we also reported a ticking sound coming from the engine which the dealer stated is a normal noise from the injectors. A NY state inspection was also performed and passed.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE REQUIRING TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. After approximately 17,700 miles the engine surged and the check engine light illuminated. After the vehicle was stopped, the transmission would no go into reverse. Vehicle was towed to Kia dealer service department, Diagnosis was transmission failure requiring complete transmission replacement.
I took my car 4 times to the dealer telling them it shut off. N they refused to do more work on the car due to they could not recreate the incident. Means they went ahead and put me in danger.
My car Cutts off while driving especially when I’m Turning happening more frequently now it’s shuts off all dash lights come on and I have to put it back in park and start it up agian
Brand new car on Dec 2020. Second time with a transmission problem. Was repaired at 6500 miles in June of this year. Dealer replaced it with a re-manufactured one. At 9300 miles I was driving in cruise control at about 70 miles per hour for a couple hours and while going up a long hill the transmission started slipping again and rpms went from 2000 to 4000 while it was trying to shift. The car began to shudder just like back it june so I knew the transmission was going. I slowed down and pulled off highway as the transmission continued to slip and had no power to go above 20 mph. I saw a parking lot up the hill to pull over at to be more safe off the highway and the rpms went up to 6000 and barely moved car then it caught and lurched the car forward and I almost hit the sign in the parking lot. I waited over 3 hours for a tow truck and after car cooled it did move enough to get it near the tow truck to be pulled up on the flatbed. This car needs a beefier transmission or some kind of cooler or warning light to prevent accidents. When is it a lemon and due for recall??
The engine shut off while driving.
My car was stolen. No alarm sounded when window broken in front-passenger side. Car was locked and alarm set. It has come to my attention through various news outlets and via class-action lawsuit filed in Milwaukee, WI that there is a security flaw in Kia’s vehicles dating 2011-present.
21V-259 recall for inconsistent heat treating process for piston oil rings. The vehicle stalls out, runs rough and continues to worsen. The first engine start up is the worst for engine noise and running rough. I expressed my concerns to the dealership, a vibration test with program software uploaded isn't a repair. Asked when will then piston rings be replaced? They stated they didn't know of that any such repair and my car is repaired. Yet it still stalls, continues to runs rough and worsening, oil check has grit feelin it. So I guess I wait till the engine stalls causing a wreck or the vehicle ignites into flames. I'm scared to drive the car and financially stuck with it because no one is willing to do anything more than what's been done. This is not fair and shouldn't be an acceptable outcome for a safety recall, as the issue of safety has not been addressed.
My locked Kia Seltos was stolen from my driveway while I was home. No alarm went off despite a broken window. This is a major problem with Kia/hyundai vehicles in Milwaukee where thieves are plugging in USB devices that start the car. Kia knows about the issue (look up news reports in Milwaukee) but is doing nothing to solve it. No recall! Now I have no car and Kia won’t compensate me at all.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V259000 (Engine). The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where the vehicle was inspected. The contact was informed that the vehicle was okay to drive. The contact stated on 9/26/2021 while starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The dealer informed the contact not to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was unable to reach a representative with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 7,350.
The seatbelt holder clip on the back seat backrest does not retain seat bely when backrest is folded down so the seat belt gets caught in the backrest latch when returning backrest to upright. This causes damage to seatbelt which could compromise it during an accident.
My vehicle was stolen by the Milwaukee KiA Boyz. Found damaged and will take up to 3 months to get parts due to number of KIAs being stolen. My car was taken at 915 am in my employee parking lot which is an assisted living and memory care community. We have kids scoping our parking lot and targeting cars. This has become a bigger issue than just a car being stolen. This is a personal safety issue as well as a community safety and risk issue
on June 21st I took my car to be inspected for a recall on the engine. I was told it would take 1-2 hours, it took a total of 6. When I picked up the car not one person explained to me what was done, if my car passed the inspection or if work was done. On July 11th my car stalled on a main street with my child in the car. The oil light, check-engine light and battery light all turned on. On July 13th I took my car back to Kia where they had it for 5 hours. They told me the car had zero oil in it and accused me of not getting frequent routine oil changes, although I have taken my vehicle for every single one, except for the one needed in about 700 miles. Instead of performing the oil change, they topped off the oil and stated I needed to drive it for another 1000 miles so they can examine it again and do that a total of 3 times. They admitted what my car is experiencing is signs of the recall, but they can not just request that I receive an engine replacement. When I mentioned the risk of the car catching on fire and my concerns, the service associate replied, "That is not likely to happen", as if that is supposed to make me feel better. My vehicle does not drive well and honestly, it is terrifying to drive, but it is my only car. Since leaving the dealer on the 13th, my car has a hard time making it to 40 MPH and the RPM sometimes goes to 6 while slowly trying to get to 40 MPH. It has stalled again and sounds very loud while running. My gas also gets used extremely fast, a tank used to last me about 2 weeks and now sometimes it barely lasts a week. I have reached out to Kia customer service multiple times, but I do not get a response.
I purchased the vehicle in March 2021. Within a week I heard a tapping or vibrating noise from rear seat. Most recently while driving less than 10 mph over a speed bump or moving in line at a gas station I hear a grinding crunching kind of sound from the front of the vehicle. While driving on the interstate there's a weird vibration feeling on the gas pedal.
Extreme design flaw, and security subpar security measures on this vehicle. My car was stolen last night because Kia's have been easy to steal. These design flaws are posing significant safety measures. Not to mention inconvenience to myself and others who have to deal with contacting insurance, getting a rental, and or finding a new car. This needs to be fixed asap. Vehicle theft for Kia and Hyundai have been up over 2500% since this time last year! Recall your cars and fix it!!!! Because of this I will never lease another Kia again.
Spontaneously Burst into flames. Was completely destroyed. I’ll have to send pics if car tomorrow when I can get into the impound.
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was driving very rough and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that there was no oil was present in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced, and the failure was remedied. The contact later received a recall notification for the failure that had occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000.
Driving on a busy 4 lane highway where everyone was going over 70mph. Car began to shudder in the transmission and lost most of its power. Rpms went up to 3 or 4 thousand when stepping on gas to pull out out fast traffic and wouldn't go above 35 mph. Had to slowly pull out of traffic with hazards on at 30mph with cars flying by in both sides. Finally got to breakdown lane after a mile and tried to use sport shift mode to try other gears. Car wouldn't go above 30 mph and rpms went up to 4000. Luckily there was a rest area 500 feet off the highway. Pulled in there to look at transmission oil dipstick but couldn't find it. Spent over 2 hours trying to get Kia roadside assistance towed to a LOCAL Kia dealer but none had loaners to give so had to use my AAA to tow it to my dealer where I bought it. Hopefully I will get reimbursed for the tow I had to pay for. Still waiting for my service department to fix it. They tried to drive it and confirmed the transmission is gone. The car ONLY has 6500 MILES ON IT!!!!!! No warning light came on to know problems were present. Very dangerous.... Kia needs to have a transmission oil cooler or a warning light installed so this can't happen again!!!!
The contact owns a 2021 Kia Seltos. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21V259000 (engine) however when attempting to schedule the recall repair appointment with the local dealer they were not attempting to schedule the repair appointment in a timely manner. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The local dealer and the manufacturer were made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
I’m making a complaint because a Driver hit the front side of my vehicle on the drivers side, and gave me all there information. No police was called because the damage to my vehicle wasn’t bad. So the driver knew it was their fault and gave there information. When it was time to call there insurance company, the driver of the other vehicle change their story and said that my car hit there vehicle and now the insurance company is saying that they are not allowable for the damages. They also noted that since there were no witnesses and no cameras or police report, then it’s just “he” says “she” says kind of issue. If this driver knew it wasn’t their fault then why did they give all their private information to a total stranger if they didn’t cause the accident.
While driving on the local street prior to entering the freeway, the vehicle completely stalled without any notice. Attempted to step on the brake pedal, however, there was no response. Had to use the emergency brake to stop to a safe spot. Had I been driving on the freeway, the end result would have resulted in possibly a fatal crash. While the vehicle stalled, I noticed 3 light indicators were lit: Charging System Warning Light, Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light, Malfunction (Engine Malfunction) Indicator Lamp. Keep in mind, all maintenance and services were up to date including oil change, which had been performed at KIA dealership service. The gears were then changed from "drive" to "park" and attempted to restart the engine. Engine turned back on without any light indicators on the dashboard and assumed that it might have been a minor electrical issue. Attempted to drive back onto the road and then the engine completely stalled again, however, this time the brake pedals responded. Not to mention, there were consistent rumbling sounds coming from the engine after the initial engine stall. Called KIA's roadside services for tow services and after 6 hours, the car was towed to a local KIA dealership to Valley-Hi KIA located in Victorville, CA. Received a call today from the dealership (June 4th, 2021) this morning and was informed that there was no oil in the vehicle and was charged $44.99 for the oil fill. Was told that there was no evidence of oil leakage and was advised to drive the vehicle 75 miles back home to take to a local KIA dealership to run an "Oil Consumption Test." Texted "Stacey Keen" at the dealership the article regarding this recall for 2021 KIA Seltos for a defect in the Piston Oil Ring and asked to speak to the service manager. Current status: Did not receive any text or call back from the dealership and was told that I will receive another update this upcoming Monday to see if the vehicle will have oil left in the vehicle.
Driving on highway, water truck lost its load. 2 thousand gallon water tank slammed into side of Kia Side airbag did not deploy

THE CAR IS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR PARK. IT TAKES RELEASING THE SHIFT LOCK TO MAKE IT GET INTO REVERSE OR NEUTRAL AND A VERY SPECIFIC SEQUENCE TO ACCIDENTALLY GET IT INTO PARK. AFTER TRYING TO PARALLEL PARK INTO A SPOT, THE CAR BECAME STUCK IN REVERSE AND COULD NOT BE MANEUVERED. IT WAS ONLY ABLE TO ROLL DOWNHILL IN NEUTRAL OR REVERSE WITH POWER, BOTH OF WHICH WOULD HAVE LED TO A COLLISION. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON THE CITY STREET AND BLOCKED TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY PROBLEMATIC DURING THE SNOW STORM. I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK FROM THE DEALER 3 DAYS PRIOR FROM A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT AND SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM IN THE SAME VEIN.
THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR IS DISTORTED. I DROVE IT HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER HAVING THE DEALER REPLACE THE MIRROR BEFORE WE LEFT THE LOT (WE NOTICED IT WHEN BEFORE DROVE OFF THE LOT) THEN JUST DROVE AND IT WAS STILL WARPED. I WAS SCARED TO SWITCH LANES. THE DISTORTION HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS BOTH STATIONARY AND IN MOTION, ON HIGHWAY AND ON THE STREETS.
THE FIRST TIME I TOOK MY CAR OUT A ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND CHIPPED IT. BEFORE I COULD MAKE IT HOME THE CHIP HAD CRACKED MY WINDSHIELD AND SPREAD TO BEYOND REPAIR. THE CAR HAS UNDER 100 MILES ON IT AND ALREADY NEEDS A NEW WINDSHIELD. VEHICLE WAS MOVING APPROX. 65 MPH ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY.
MY KIA SELTOS HAS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH ONLY A LITTLE OVER 6,000 MILES. IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH WON'T BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AT LEAST FEBRUARY 11TH
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. ON A ROAD WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AT 55 MPH SUDDENLY AND CAUSED DISRUPTION IN THE TRAFFIC UNTIL I COULD CRUISE TO THE SHOULDER IN NEUTRAL. IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION WHERE MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS WERE NARROWLY AVOIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE TRANSMISSION WAS IDENTIFIED TO HAVE A BROKEN TRANSMISSION WITH 3000 MILES ON IT.
NO MATTER WHAT SPEED, CAR WILL RANDOMLY JERK FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, FEELING LIKE DEATH WOBBLE. AT HIGHER SPEEDS MORE THAN 45MPH THE CAR WILL VIOLENTLY JERK FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, FEELING OUT OF CONTROL. KIA DEALERSHIP ON CENTRAL AVE IN ALBANY NY USA NOTIFIED, SAID THE ALIGNMENT WAS OFF AND PASS REAR CAMBER BOLT IS BENT. STATED THEY DID AN ALIGNMENT FOR THE FRONT TWO AND THE LEFT REAR BUT NOT THE RIGHT REAR, PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED.
AT 5,800 MILES, MY SELTOS SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING WHILE IN MOTION. RPMS SHOT UP TO 7 AND 8, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 35 MPH. THE ENGINE WAS GRINDING. I GOT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION IN THE COUNTRY SO ONE HAS BEEN ORDERED.
THIS VEHICLE HAS A HUGE FLAW. THE DESIGN ANGLE OF THE WIND SHIELD PICKS UP A GLARE FROM THE DASH WHICH COVERS THE ENTIRE VIEWING ANGLE FROM CENTER WIND SHIELD TO THE RIGHT. ONLY REALLY VISIBLE WHEN THE SUN IS OUT. KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS ADMITTED VIA EMAIL AND CASE STATEMENT THAT IT IS A DESIGN ISSUE AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE. PHOTO SHOWS DASH GLARE. ANYTHING THAT IS PLACED ON THE DASH IS REFLECTED ON THE WINDOW SHIELD.
GOING ON A SLIGHT INCLINE MY ENGINE FELT LIKE IT WAS SURGING SLIGHTLY AND AFTER 5 MIN THE ENGINE WAS REALLY SURGING AND THE NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD MAX OUT AT 65. AND THEN AFTER 10 MIN NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR THERE WOULD BE ABOUT A 5 SECOND DELAY IN THE RPMS. WHICH WOULD GO FROM 1 TO 8 MAX. AND IT FINALLY DIED ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION BLEW ON IT AND TO GET A NEW ONE THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT FROM KOREA. I WILL BE WITHOUT A CAR FOR ALMOST 2 FULL MONTHS.
THERE IS A CONSTANT RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR AREA. IT SOUNDS AT BOTHS LOW AND HIGH SPEED. NOT SURE IF IS FROM THE SUSPENSION OR SOMETHING INSIDE THE TRUNK AREA. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 600 MILES.
IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE TOO HOT WARNING CAME ON. EVENTUALLY GOT INTO THE RED ZONE, HAD TO PULL OVER AND KEEP FOOT ON BRAKE TO DISENGAGED DUAL CLUTCH SYSTEM TO HELP DISSIPATE HEAT. EVENTUALLY WENT BACK DOWN TO NORMAL RANGE OF TEMPERATURE. DEALER STATED FOUND NO ARTICLES OR RESOURCES FOR THIS ISSUE.
CAR HAS 3000 MILES,CAR HAD BEEN SURGING WHEN ACCELERATING, IT REVVED UP WHEN IN DRIVE, WOULDN'T GO AS I WAS EXITING OFF OF INTERSTATE. WAS TOWED TO DEALER, THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, SENT ME HOME. I MADE IT 47 MILES WHEN IT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND STOPPED GOING. WAS TOWED BACK TO DEALER, WHERE IT HAS BEEN FOR OVER 2 WEEKS. THEY ARE PUTTING IN A NEW TRANSMISSION.
VEHICLE WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS, UNTIL ONE TIME IT DID NOT SWITCH FROM AUTOMATIC OFF AT STOPLIGHT BACK INTO GEAR. HAD TO TURN CAR OFF/ON TO GET IT INTO GEAR. LATER ON THE HIGHWAY AT ~60MPH, AS IT WAS TRYING TO DOWNSHIFT TO GO UP A HILL, IT FAILED TO ENGAGE A GEAR. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD TO COAST INTO SHOULDER TO AWAIT IT BEING TOWED. DEALERSHIP SAID IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION, WAS BAD FROM FACTORY - CAR HAS ~2K MILES ON IT. TECHNICIAN SAID IT'S NOT THE FIRST HE'S SEEN LIKE THIS.
HVAC BLOWER WOULD NOT BLOW. DEALER FOUND MELTED RELAYS. ONE WEEK AFTER REPLACING THE ENTIRE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS I STARTED TO GET A BURNT ELECTRICAL SMELL THROUGH THE VENTS. I LOOKED IN THE ENGINE FUSE BOX AND THERE WERE MELTED RELAYS AGAIN.
VEHICLE WILL NOT PROPERLY SHIFT GEARS AND WILL STALL RANDOMLY AT TRAFFIC STOPS.
I BELIEVE KIA IS MANUFACTURING / OR SOURCING VERY BAD QUALITY WINDSHIELD FOR THEIR VEHICLES. I WAS DRIVING MY KIA SELTOS AT 55 MPH ON A CITY ROAD WHEN A SMALL CHIP HIT MY SCREEN WHICH DIDN'T EVEN CREATE ANY STRIKING SOUND AND THE NEXT SECOND I KNOW MY WINDSCREEN DEVELOPED THIS HUGE CRACK. MY CAR WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 DAYS OLD. RIGHT AFTER THAT I TOLD MY DEALERSHIP AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS VERY COLD. THEY EVEN DIDN'T TAKE ANY PICTURES TO CONSULT KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THEY SAID IT WAS AN OUTSIDE INFLUENCE AND THEY WON'T CONSIDER TO COVER IT UNDER ANY WARRANTY. THEN I WENT ON VARIOUS CAR FORUMS TO FIND OUT THAT KIA TELLURIDE BUYERS HAVE FREQUENTLY COMPLAINED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE COMPANY REPLACED IT FOR THEM CALLING IT A "GOOD WILL GESTURE". I ALSO REACHED OUT TO VARIOUS OTHER KIA CAR BUYERS AND I WAS SURPISED TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON COMPLAINTS. SURPISINGLY MAJORITY OF THESE WINDSCREENS CRACK WHEN SOMETHING HITS THE CORNERS (WHERE IT SITS ON THE FRAME). PROBABLY A PRESSURE POINT. BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. I DON'T WANT TO SPEND A 1500$ AGAIN ON A WINSHIELD REPLACE AFTER EVERY 40 DAYS
CAR WAS PARKED WITH AUTO OFF FEATURE DISABLED. VEHICLE STALLED 2-3 TIMES WHILE PARKED.
WINDOW STICKER INDICATES DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ON LX MODEL. MANUAL SAYS TO HAVE LIGHT SWITCH IN AUTO POSITION. WHEN MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS OUTLINED IN THE FEATURES AND OWNERS MANUAL THE DRL'S NEVER ILLUMINATE. TOWBIN KIA RESPONDED THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND I SHOULD MOVE THE SWITCH ONE POSITION UP TO THE PARKING LIGHT POSITION IF I WANT TO USE DRL. THIS IS CONTRARY TO WHAT THE MANUAL STATES.
MY KIA SELTOS WITH ONLY 900 MILES HAS DONE THE FOLLOWING TWICE: WHEN AT A STOP AND I STEP ON THE GAS THE CAR TURNS OFF. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS THE CAR TURNED OFF AND TOOK A COUPLE OF MINUTES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND STEPPED ON THE GAS AND IT TURNED OFF. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT. NOW MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 15 DAYS SO FAR WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHEN THE CAR WILL BE RETURNED BECAUSE THE PART IS ON "BACK ORDER". I'D LIKE TO ADD THAT WHILE AT THE CAR RENTAL PLACE I MET ANOTHER PERSON WITH THE SAME CAR AND EXACT SAME ISSUES.
TRANSMISSION DEFECT , TRANSMISSION OVER HEATS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC , ALSO CAUSES SKIPPING OF THE GEARS. KIA KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM AND INDICATED THAT CAR WILL SHUT DOWN ON ITS OWN BECAUSE OF THIS.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE ASSIST (FCA), RADAR SENSOR DO NOT WORK, NEVER GET ALARMS OR WARNING WHEN AN COLLISION IS EMINENT. CONTACTED KIAUSA AND DEALER, PROBLEM NOT SOLVED.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE ASSIST W/ PEDESTRIAN DETECT (FCA), SYSTEM DO NOT WORK, NEVER GET ALARMS, IN A NEAR COLLISION SITUATIONS OR A PERSON CROSSING IN FRONT OF VEHICLE. CONTACTED KIA USA CASE # 13716568), RETURN CAR TO DEALER AS INSTRUCTED, PROBLEM NEVER FIX. KIA NOT PROVIDING ANY INFORMATION OR TROUBLESHOOT, TEST OR REPLACE RADAR SENSOR TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN THE CAR OWNER MANUAL, IT LOOK LIKE THE SYSTEM HAS MORE LIMITATIONS THAN REAL INSTANCES THAT WILL WORK. SYSTEM NOT RELIABLE AT ALL.
MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE NEW 2021 KIA SELTOS WITH THE DUAL CLUTCH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT CAN MISS 1ST, 3RD, 5TH AND 7TH GEARS. IT MISSED 1ST GEAR WHILE MY WIFE WAS TURNING LEFT FROM A STOPPED CONDITION... IT WAS NEARLY AN ACCIDENT, AND COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENT SINCE THERE WAS A PASSENGER. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS TRANSMISSION IS ALREADY A RECALL IN SOUTH KOREA. A WEBSITE HAS A VIDEO SHOWING THE PROBLEM MY WIFE ALSO ENCOUNTERED. PLEASE SEE THIS WEBSITE: HTTPS://WHEELBHP.COM/KIA-SELTOS-DCT-PROBLEMS-3119881/ IT DOES INDICATE AN ECU RE-FLASH SHOULD FIX THE ISSUE. (THE WEBSITE INDICATES A REFLASH SHOULD REPAIR PROPER TRANSMISSION SHIFTING.) MISSED SHIFTS HAS HAPPENED TO MY WIFE MORE THAN ONCE... THE SUV "FEELS JERKY" MANY TIME WHEN DRIVING. REPORTED TO DEALER NO ACTION TAKEN BY KIA DEALER YET. *TR
▸ Head gasket failure and engine overheating — EGR cooler failure is the leading cause of catastrophic engine failure on diesel engines
▸ Engine oil starvation leading to bearing failure — blocked oil cooler is fatal to the engine if not addressed immediately
▸ Valve and piston damage — timing chain/belt failure causes immediate catastrophic engine damage at any speed
The blue line shows 314 total NHTSA complaints filed over 7 years, with the worst year being 2025 (120 complaints, including 5 crash reports).
The amber reliability line averaged 10/100 across the vehicle's life — dropping as low as 10 in 2020 when complaint severity peaked.
Notably, despite 314 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.
Red dots on the amber line flag 5 years (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
Nu (2.0L) and Gamma (1.6L) GDI engines share similar connecting rod bearing failure modes as the Theta II engine. Hyundai and Kia extended warranty coverage following additional NHTSA investigations.
