Description of Incident: The vehicle is experiencing significant engine oil dilution by gasoline. Upon inspection of the dipstick, the oil level is consistently found to be well above the "Full" mark, and the oil emits a strong, pungent odor of raw fuel. This indicates that unburnt gasoline is bypassing the piston rings and entering the crankcase during normal operation, particularly in colder temperatures or during hybrid engine cycling. Safety Risk: The dilution of engine oil with fuel significantly reduces the oil's viscosity and lubricating properties. This creates a high risk of premature engine wear, rod bearing failure, and sudden engine seizure or stalling while the vehicle is in motion. A sudden loss of motive power at highway speeds poses a severe crash hazard to myself and other motorists. Attempts to Correct: I have noted that similar Hyundai models using the 1.6L platform (such as the Tucson Hybrid via TSB 23-EE-002H) have received software updates to address this specific issue. However, when contacting the dealer regarding my Elantra Hybrid, I was informed that no such software fix or service campaign currently exists for the CN7 Elantra model, leaving the safety defect unaddressed. Expected Resolution: Hyundai should be required to issue a recall or technical service bulletin for the Elantra Hybrid to update the Engine Control Unit (ECU) logic, ensuring the engine reaches and maintains temperatures necessary to prevent fuel accumulation in the oil.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not formally diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was a crack in the engine, causing a leak. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,825.
The contact owned a 2022 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact stated that a relative had entered the residence and informed the contact that the vehicle was on fire. The vehicle was unoccupied. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was parked five minutes prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to have the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The horn on my vehicle all of a sudden does not work. Im afraid that i'll be in a accident because im unable to blow it. Plenty times ive almost been in a accident & it was literally nothing i could do because my horn isnt working. secondly, something is going in with the suspension on the right side of my car. Too much rattling noise. I see in the complaints im not the only one having this issue. third but not least, the ac isnt working. blowing out hot air. ive also seen where alot of people is complaining about that Ive had this car only a year and it has too many recall issues.
Vehicle: 2022 Hyundai N Line Mileage at Initial Incident: ~17,000 miles Components Involved: Engine and Engine Cooling; Exhaust System / Emissions; Air Bags (SRS) I am submitting this complaint to document unresolved emissions system and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) safety concerns involving my 2022 Hyundai N Line, as well as the manufacturer’s refusal to ensure proper diagnosis and corrective action following a documented dealer service error and subsequent warranty repair. At approximately 17,000 miles, a Hyundai-authorized dealership failed to reinstall an engine oil seal during a routine oil change. This error caused rapid engine oil loss at highway speed, activation of the oil warning system, and oil discharge onto the roadway. The incident is documented in Hyundai service records and is not disputed. Sudden oil-loss events of this nature are known to cause latent or progressive damage to internal engine components and federally regulated emissions systems, even when immediate engine failure does not occur. Despite proper maintenance after this incident, the vehicle subsequently set DTC P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold – Bank 1) at a mileage far below expected durability. Hyundai replaced the catalytic converter under warranty. I requested diagnostic data, inspection findings, and documentation supporting the repair, but the dealership refused to provide anything beyond a basic repair invoice. Immediately following this Hyundai-authorized warranty repair, the vehicle developed a new drivability defect, specifically hesitation during acceleration, which was not present prior to the catalytic converter replacement. This indicates a post-repair nonconformity and raises concern that emissions-related components may not have been fully repaired or that additional systems were affected during the warranty repair process. When I returned the vehicle for evaluation, the dealership stated that it would not diagnose the vehicle unless an acti
There is an issue with mice getting into the front of the car. It smells like urine and is unsafe to breathe. I have cleaned out air filters monthly and find nests every time and have even found a dead mice. My car has nothing that would attract the mice. I have tried everything and spent so much money to prevent this from happening. Apparently with this car it is a known issue, and has not been fixed.
I am reporting a safety-related defect involving the vehicle’s infotainment and forward safety systems. When this occurs, the vehicle also shows a “Check Forward Safety System” warning message. Diagnostic trouble code C162078 is triggered, indicating a front radar out of alignment. As a result, critical safety features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control, and other radar-based driver assistance systems are disabled. This issue creates a significant safety risk because the driver is not alerted to potential forward collisions and cannot rely on active safety systems. The blank infotainment screen also prevents access to vehicle settings, warnings, and camera functions. In South Korea, this same defect has resulted in an official recall and free front radar replacement and calibration. However, in the United States, customers are not covered under a recall and are required to pay out of pocket for radar realignment or replacement, even though the issue is identical and a lot of time the issue came back 3 months later and customer have to pay out of pocket once again to fix the same issue. Many owners report receiving official recall notices in other markets, while U.S. owners must independently diagnose the issue. Dealers often state that the problem may be caused by radar misalignment after a software update or system fault. In some cases, cleaning or recalibration temporarily resolves the issue, but in other cases, full radar replacement is required. This inconsistent treatment places U.S. consumers at a financial disadvantage and allows a known safety defect to remain unresolved. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this defect and require the manufacturer to issue a U.S. recall with free repair, calibration, or replacement, consistent with actions already taken in other countries.
My vehicle experienced a sudden and complete brake assist failure, including the emergency brake. I was unable to stop the vehicle, which directly resulted in a collision. Prior to the crash, the car showed no warning lights. After the accident, I had the vehicle inspected at the Hyundai dealership. The dealership stated they could not reproduce the failure and “found no issues,” which contradicts the symptoms. Since the crash, I discovered two Hyundai Technical Service Bulletins that directly match the failure I experienced: TSB 23-01-036H-1 (Relates to HECU/Electronic Parking Brake failure) TSB addressing DTC C1620 (Relates to FCA Sensor/Automatic Braking malfunction) These TSBs relate to brake assist malfunction, emergency brake concerns, and similar stopping failures. The dealership did not disclose these TSBs, did not apply the corrective procedures, and cleared the car as having “no defects.” The dealership wrote “could not reproduce concern” and “no problems found,” despite the vehicle having just been in a brake-failure crash. This brake failure created a major safety risk with potential for severe injury or fatality. I am reporting this because the defect appears unresolved, the dealership denied it, and the TSBs show Hyundai is aware of brake-related issues. I request that NHTSA investigate this brake-system failure as part of a potential manufacturer safety defect. The vehicle is currently secured at the dealership (Lithia Hyundai, Las Vegas) and is available for inspection upon request by NHTSA investigators.
I didn't know the horn wasn't working. I was driving and a vehicle almost backed into me on the drivers door. I couldn't warn them that I was behind them I was fortunate to move before they backed into me. I haven't taken the car to the dealer. I searched on the internet to see if this was an isolated incident and I found hundreds of incidents of people reporting faulty horns on Hyundai vehicles. This should be a safety and a recall issue/
The headlights go off and on randomly It happens during the day and evening I have brought it to the dealer two times and they said after five days they cannot duplicate the problem At night time it is very dangerous when the headlights go off as I drive in a rural area I have submitted daytime photos which shows the malfunction I cannot submit nighttime photos as it is too dangerous The problem occurs daily The vehicle is available for inspection
Horn does not work
I was pulling into a parking spot, moving very slowly, and the car suddenly accelerated. I’m not sure if it was the brakes only because I was slowed down and preparing to stop. I was lucky that I only went into a PVC fence and no one was injured. There was no indication of any sort of a possible problem. No one looked at it because I had no idea that that could be done, and I wouldn’t know where to go.
The car now shows a warning "Check Forward Safety System" and cruise control, understandably does not work. I have not had any collisions or accidents for this to occur. There seems to be no recall from Hyundai, however, this appears to be a safety issue that needs to be addressed by Hyundai.
The display screen goes out and displays a black screen not enabling the display of the GPS system
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while her daughter was driving 63 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the message that the vehicle was in neutral was displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and waited for a tow truck to arrive on the scene. The contact stated that a Police Officer showed up on the scene because the vehicle was blocking the right side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
FAULTY REARVIEW CAMERA My 2022 Hyundai Elantra sedan rearview camera fails to display clear image or displays no image when shift gear is in reverse position. 2021 and 2022 Hyundai Elantra sedan models were recalled - Recall #271. I need my vehicle repaired but have been told by Hyundai Corporate that my vehicle is not eligible. That is why I am filing this complaint.
Every time I try to use the cruise button I get an error message.
My car has 62,000 miles on it just about three weeks ago. The air conditioner evaporator went out now the car is making a bunch of noise and it’s blowing very hot air. Car should not be having this issue with less miles is this. I took it to the Dealership for a diagnostic check and they told me that this is a known problem with these cars I asked was there a recall on the part due to a failing with less miles, as such The mechanic told me I need to put in a complaint and maybe something will be done so I’m sitting with this car and I literally had to keep the windows down to stay cool
For the past 2 years my Forward Safety System light on has been on in my car. It has turned off and back on repeatedly but has now been on for about 6 months. Hyundai dealerships are estimated a week or two of labor to fix which is extremely expensive for rental cars and outlandish that I bought this brand new and it is already giving me issues. No damage has been had to the car in any way.
I’ve gotten my horn replaced for the second straight time in the past year. Currently at the dealership and service advisors here at West Herr Hyundai in Williamsville state many horns go bad as of today they’ve replaced 7 of them.
My Rear view camara has stop working and there is no recall available for my Elantra by vin number. Is the same problem from the 24V879000 campaign. Please inform me if there is a recall for my car because it’s causing problems in visibility for reverse parking.
Intermittently while driving the vehicle will suddenly engage the traction control (TC)/electronic stability control (ESC). The light flashes for a short period (probably no more than a couple of seconds) and the car slightly jerks to the right. A loud noise is heard when this happens and the brake pedal shakes. Then the light will stop flashing and the car will begin operating normally again. Typically, the problem will reoccur shortly after it happens. I took the car to a dealer, and the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. The service manager stated that there were no codes and no history, and without a code the problem could not be diagnosed. This problem occurred multiple times over the last few months.
I had just drove back home from work and I was driving to pick up my child from his basketball game. I was able to pull out of my driveway and get through two stop signs before I came to a third and needed to make a left hand turn. I stopped and let the cars from the highway pass until it was my turn to go. I was proceeding through the sign and started to turn and in the middle of the turn my vehicle cuts off acceleration and stops moving in the middle of the street and turn. No lights. No warning. Just loses power. I pressed the gas and my rpm’s just reved extremely high. I couldn’t move out of the middle of the street. I pressed the gas again and the car started moving approximately 5-10 mph. Luckily the car driving by didn’t hit me as I was sitting in the middle of the road. I finally got to the side of the road and put the vehicle into park for a couple minutes and tried to take off again. I couldn’t go faster than 5mph at this time. I had to drive back home and by the time I got back I had lost reverse capabilities. Dealer said no recalls and mechanics said not much they can do because there isn’t a code or light on for them to check. I just have a new car that doesn’t drive or go into reverse. I’m going to the original dealer to see if they can help now. I believe this is possibly the transmission but I am not sure.
At the beginning of December 2022 (a year after I purchased my brand new vehicle), two of the ignition coils misfired. I was driving down the highway and suddenly my car lost power and then cut off. I was able to start it again, but it would not drive faster than 25mph and would randomly lose power again. On December 7th, 2022 I took it to Hyundai and they were able to replace the two coil packs under the warranty. However, they didn't change the spark plugs (unbeknownst to me), a few months later I decided to change my spark plugs (which had to be purchased directly from Hyundai for $120), all of my spark plugs were completely burnt and looked terrible. There was a caution signal on my dash board and after running an OBD code scanner, one of the error codes that were triggered were "P030400".
On June 13 2023, I received an alert on my dashboard that my cruise control was unable to be used due to an issue with the front sensor. The alert went away soon after but then reappeared on August 27th, 2023 the error appeared again. Specifically error code C162078. I wasn't able to get the issue repaired until November 2023, which is also where they replaced my faulty backup camera.
On six seperate occasions since I purchased new my traction control light flashed and the vehicle jerked and would lose power. It would then gain and lose power again. Four of these occurances happened in the last few months. It would not subside until I stopped the car. I took the car to the dealer three times and they said they could not duplicate the problem. They also said there were no codes in the car system history that showed any problems. I contacted Hyundai USA for advice. They said to bring it into the dealer and ask them to inspect the car again. That was visit number 3 and the results were the same. The person from Hundai said she would let her supervisor know of my concern for the vehicle safety but I never heard back.
Unknown, "no remedy available"
Rearview camera failure in my 2022 Hyundai Elantra. I need an urgent repair and need to have the rearview camera repair process speeded up because I need to drive at night. I need urgent repair of the rearview camera in my Hyundai Elantra because I do not want to injure pedestrians and do not want to get into collisions that are a direct result of rearview camera failure in my Hyundai Elantra
The back up camera has stopped working. If you read google, yelp, and other forums, a lot of back up cameras have stopped working as early as 24k miles. My vehicle is 2 years old and back up camera has died. I drive a lot of miles for work but cameras do not use mileage. The is a safety hazard as we had a 7 year old killed from a vehicle with no back up camera years ago. I do not agree with having to pay $1000.00 to have this item replaced. Hyundai also did not give me a proper diagnosis. Just need to relace the camera for $980.00 in a link that was a text message.
Rear view back up camera no longer functioning correctly. Has been to dealership where purchased with system update but no remedy.
While traveling on a bridge with a very steep incline, the forward safety system light came on, which disabled the cruise control. We could not resolve the warning light issue, despite taking it thru a car wash, hoping that the sensor was just dirty. The warning light remained on for several days, then went away. One month later, on a sunny, dry day, the light returned. I made an appt at the local dealership, where the car was purchased and they told me that the front sensor was out of alignment and I most likely hit something, which I did not. $370 for the alignment and since they assumed I hit something, it voided the warranty.
While driving highway speeds (65mph-75mph) the emergency braking system randomly activated causing my car to slow to almost a halt and swerve itself in the middle of the highway almost causing multiple accidents. It has happened 2-3 times over the past 2-3 months. Brought to a dealer and it could not be "duplicated" so I was sent on my way worried about this car.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that when his son started the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to illuminate. Additionally, while driving approximately 10 MPH, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact tested the battery with a voltage reader the voltage and the voltage had gone from 12.8V to 12.4V within five days. The contact was concerned that the battery had lost voltage within five days. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.
Teenage daughter was in seat belt. Laid over a little when she sat back up the seat belt tighten around her waist and would not release. When tried to pull down from top it continue to tighten and lock around abdomen. With every small move it locked up more until there was no choice but you cut the belt because it was cutting off circulation.
Check foward safety feature dashlight came on while driving, my blue link app told me the DTC c162078 chassis alignment failed front radar On Jun 4th 2024 while in park and idle my steering wheel kept going side to side, I recorded it not sure if that had something to do with this happening on July 2, 2024 and my safety is in jeopardy I feel due to the forward collision not working, smart cruise control not working, made appointment at hyundai dealership and I showed them the code bluelink told me to show them and they said they have to diagnose car themselves and the cost would be $169.99. I had to call hyundai customer care and get a claim number because dealership said they had to charge me. Two days i waited for dealership to call me the lady stated to let dealership know to waive diagnostic fee, I was told they would waive fee but I would need to pay $497 for part and $500 for labor which includes labor and recalibration, I told them I am financing a car I don't have safety features for, so I believe this should be listed as a recall or it should be fixed free of charge, being this is no fault of my own. No accident, didn't hit anything , I was driving at night and smooth roads. Dealership wanted me to lie to my insurance company and say I hit pothole. I told her no because that would be a lie.
My 2022 Hyundai Elantra SEL's rear parking camera, rear cross traffic warning and Forward colliion warning systems have stopped working a couple of days back. I have checked online for any resolution, and it appears I am not the only one facing these issues. There are a good number of drivers who have reported similar issues. Hyundai has not issued an recall/fix for these issues and the dealer is unable to tell me if the issue is covered under warranty (I have about 45k miles on my car), unless I pay $220 per issue to diagnose first. That will get me to near $660 before I know anything about how to fix it. I would appreciate if you can please investigate these issues in 2022 Elantra SEL.
Back camera stopped working
I bought this 2022 Elantra 2 years ago. Everytime I change my gear into reverse, my rear camera should be turned on for safety, but it's not working anymore.
All of the following has occurred to me; Delayed or sluggish acceleration Gear slips Shaking, shuddering, or juddering Harsh or rough shifts Immobility or stalling Thumping and other objectional sounds My car has just over 25000 miles. I have only had it serviced at the dealership. I have complained about this issue to only get a software reset which. Doesn’t solve the issue. The last time I left it at the dealership for this issue , they had it for weeks , was told that the issue was replicated , only got a software reset. My problem persist and only seems to be getting worse.
All safety features randomly appear and go off as well as while driving 80mph down the highway the speedometer and RPM gauge both dropped to zero. Vehicle has been at the shop multiple times and stayed for three months where they could not duplicate the issues. I have pictures and videos of multiple instances. Dealership replaced back up camera and was told that was the cause for the safety lights going off and within a week of getting vehicle back the forward collision light has come on two different occasions when no vehicle is around as well as two instances when a vehicle slammed on brakes in front of me and the front collision sensor did not go off at all.
After raining here in houston texas I received a message on dashboard saying check rear cross traffic warning system. the warning has now inactivated the horn , the red lights on mirror does not alert me of cars behind me as I cross into traffic, camera works perfect but does not alert me of potential dangers when backing up like it normally would. The feedback when locking my car door is also inactive.
The horn has malfunctioned. It stopped working today for the first 10-15 minutes of my driving and this poses as a safety concern as I was not able to communicate with other drivers. After 15 minutes the horn started picking up but it sounded faint. It does not sound nearly as loud or the same sound. I am worried the horn will stop working again. It is not making the same noises it usually does. Currently there are no warning lights on the dash regarding this. I am also seeing in social media communities that other Elantra drivers are facing the exact same issue and this poses a safety concern. If the horn stops working while driving in the highway or even local roads and we are unable to connivance with drivers it can cause or fail to prevent accidents.
Bought car new in December 2021. Both horns (low and high pitch) stopped working about a month after. Got it replaced. Next winter it went out again, got it looked at. Now this winter they went out again and I’m waiting on the dealership to get a new set in for it to be replaced. All replacements have been genuine Hyundai parts installed by a Hyundai dealership.
I was driving on the highway three days ago, and the forward safety went off. It was raining heavily, this happened to me once before and as soon as the rain cleared, it went away. This time it has not gone away. The safety remains disabled. I am unable to locate the sensors to see if maybe there’s mud or some thing blocking it.
Automatic emergency braking appears to be getting falsely triggered. This happens when I am pulling out of parking spaces, even with nothing besides or behind me. This also happens when cars in lanes beside me pass me.
Car losing coolant and hyundai refuse to fix it says couldn’t find leak
My car had faulty camshaft position sensors which would cause the engine to randomly stall and shut off while driving.
My daughter was driving the car to work. The car accelerated even thou her foot was lightly placed on the gas pedal, it was like pressing the gas pedal to race the car. This happened 4 times on her 4.5 mile drive to work. When she was turning into the parking lot, she had her foot on the brake and the car accelerated again which scared her as she didnt want to crash into the cars in front. I read a lot of such complaints on the hyundai forum. I talked to the dealership service mechanics and they say that they will have to replicate it. This is the first time this has happened in the last 2 years. The contact stated that this information is incorrect and applies to their other VOQ 11525448 for their 2021 Hyundai Elantra. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra has issues with loss of power.
The contact's wife owned a 2022 Hyundai Electra. The contact stated that while driving at 68 mph and the accelerator pedal was depressed the vehicle collided with a deer. The contact stated that the air bags deployed upon impact. The vehicle was towed to a salvage lot. A police report was filed. The contact's wife sustained neck, left shoulder, and chest injuries that required medical attention. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Vehicle was being driven on access road when the LKA jerked the steering wheel to the right, causing a collision with a vehicle entering road from commercial drive. The road lines were straight with no breaks, hands were on the steering wheel. The vehicle was made to swerve out of its lane without enough time to correct before collision.
Our Jiffy Lube service center performed and oil change to Hyundai Elantra. A day later customer came back with vehicle being towed. Customer stated vehicle seized for no reason. Our technicians inspected vehicle engine oil and found it to be at proper level, but vehicle was completely dead as if no power at all. Car horn failure. Almost had an accident. Tried to honk the horn, so that i could warn the other driver coming toward my lane, nothing, no sound at all. I swerved my car out of the way... it could have been bad if there was a car next to me. Took the car to the dealership. Verdict, they said the car horn needs to be changed. Nope, did not notice any warnings that the horn gonna malfunction. It is messed up. I hardly use the horn and yet it is broken. Isn't the horn supposed to last a while?

I was sent a letter in July regarding the current recall for the safety belt pretensioner and how it may deploy in a faulty manner and injure passengers. I received another letter today that Hyundai is "preparing to implement the safety recall remedy." It has now been almost two months and there is still no concrete plan being reported to me. I think this is an unreasonable amount of time to be waiting for a remedy to a safety problem while I drive a car that could be potentially dangerous.
Dealer has been unable to repair the recall associated with my car. I’ve been waiting for half a year for it to be repaired and dealer claims they don’t have the part available for it to be repaired. This shouldn’t take that much time.

I bought my brand new 2022 Elantra in July of 2021, the only problem I have experienced is the brakes make a sort of wailing noise. It's not a screeching noise as if the brakes need to be changed or that the rotors are worn or brake pads are low. It is not a sound I've heard brake make before and it typically makes the sound when in reverse and slow speeds. I was a mechanic in the United States Air Force for 16 year so I know a lot about mechanical issues so a year old car certainly shouldn't be making these kinds of sounds.

I received a recall notice for 22V-354 (Hyundai recall 229) on 8/1/2022. The recall states that this is an important safety recall and Hyundai is preparing a remedy, but it’s not ready yet. It states that owners are strongly recommended to park vehicles outside and away from structures. It states that the driver/passenger seat belts can explode and project metal shrapnel into the vehicle occupant compartment. However, the dealership advised they don’t have the parts or personnel to fix it right now and they don’t have any timeline on when it can be repaired either. I need my car (that I just purchased in April 2022) to go to work every day. I don’t have other transportation options available as I drive from client to client and am self employed. I live in a high traffic area and am scared that my seat belt will kill or maim me if involved in an accident. I’m sure Hyundai wouldn’t forgive my payments until this is fixed, but they just expect me to drive an unsafe vehicle until “whenever” this can be fixed?? Please require a deadline for them to fix this or forgive my loan so I can purchase another vehicle. This is not okay. We pay taxes and expect safety and regulations. Please contact me with a real solution.
I was advised of the current recall on my new 22 Elantra. I took my vehicle to the Hyundai dealership where it was purchased (Cookeville) from a mere few months ago. I advised I needed the recall on the seat belts fixed. I was then told that they wouldn't be able to fix this recall for awhile (over a month) because they needed to fix the cars currently on the lot. THE UNSOLD CARS THAT ARE JUST SITTING THERE. Not only is this reckless, it shows a complete disregard to my safety and others that may be in the vehicle or near it if something were to happen while being driven. Mind you, I bought this car completely new from them and have zero issues up until this point. I feel that my vehicle should be given priority over a vehicle that isn't even sold. The Cookeville Hyundai is prioritizing money over public safety and I will as though it should be addressed immediately.

I drove my vehicle to the store, parked and went in to the store to get some things. When I came out and started the car several things were wrong with the car. The power steering was not working, the RPM gauge didn't work at all, the back up camera also was not operational. The check engine light was on, the forward collision light was illuminated. I was able to drive it home but that was a sketchy drive home. The next morning I got in the car and started it up no problem, none of the issues from the previous day were there, the power steering worked perfectly and everything was fine. I still drove it to AutoZone to get it check with a scan tool, and when I did the scan tool didn't come up with any faults. This all happened about two weeks ago. Hopefully the problems don't come back. vehicle mileage is 15,000 and I've had the car for almost a year so whatever it is better be covered under warranty. I also have been having a kind of wailing sound from my brakes when I slowly reverse, It's a high pitched squeal that is usually heard when the brake pads are worn. It sounds like a deeper kind of wailing sound. It actually comes and goes and never does it in normal drive only in reverse, If anyone else has experienced this please let me know.

I attempted to make a complete stop at a stop sign. The brakes wouldn't stop the car. The car kept driving, had to swerve several times. I attempted to put the car in neutral didn't work, tried to put it in park didn't work. It abruptly stopped in the middle of the road eventually. Several lights displayed on the dashboard. Scariest moment of my life! Hyundai needs to fix this problem! I called the dealership to speak with the service manger ART at World Hyundai in Matteson, IL, left several messages no call back! Final call, I was told that ART couldn't come to the phone, I could drop off the car, but they have no loaner to give me in the meantime.
During the summer, I used to get some rattling on my new Elantra right after beginning to drive, after a long interval of parking under the sun. But once the car cooled down due to the A/C, the rattling would disappear. I never bothered to find the exact source of rattling because it used to last only a couple of minutes. Now in the winter, something in the passenger side starts rattling every time I go on a bump! So I took the car to the dealership following a whole week of consistent rattling. They said the noise is coming from somewhere in the dashboard and it is likely due to the misalignment caused by the shrinking of plastic in the cold. They said I could leave the car with them for 2-3 days and they could open up the dashboard and find the exact source of the noise. However, the disclaimer was that opening up the dashboard could actually introduce more rattle after it was assembled back, because the dashboard plastic parts are not precisely machined. Also, if the cause of the rattle was not found to be a manufacturer defect, I would have to pay diagnosis fee as well as the price of any broken parts that needed replacement, along with the labor charge to replace it. What's the point of warranty then?
On 2/26/2022, while driving East bound 134 at night. AEB of my 2022 Elantra kicked in. The first time AEB kicked in hard and I lost control of the car for a split moment. The warning sounds as the AEB activated and I swerved slightly (within my lane). This happened while I still had sufficient safety distance with the car in front of me and before the car in front of me began braking. The second time this happened was 10 minutes later, when there were no cars next to, behind, or in front of me. Same thing happened where AEB suddenly activated under normal driving condition. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This sudden braking puts me, my passenger, and car(s) behind me at risk. Potentially this puts cars next to me at risk too. The problem is currently under inspection by the dealer at Cardinale Hyundai in Corona, CA. Dealer so far has notified me the problem was unable to be reproduced and did not find any system or parts out of the ordinary. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance. This is a brand new 2022 model Elantra purchased on 12/31/2021. There were no prior warnings lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. Dash cam video clips of both incidents are available upon request.
Hired a local tire shop to install winter tires on a second set of wheels, with a second set of TPMS sensors. Later, I discovered the car was not picking up the sensors, but it also failed to illuminate the TPMS sensor alert. When I took it back to the tire shop, they checked the TPMS with their own sensors and said they were working fine, so they didn't know why the car didn't detect them. I called my Hyundai dealer, and they said that aftermarket TPMS often don't work, and I have to use Hyundai-approved TPMS. This is fine, but the owner's manual ought to say so. I checked the owner's manual, and it doesn't say that only Hyundai-approved TPMS can be used. The dealer replied that Hyundai doesn't like people installing aftermarket parts. I replied that installing winter tires is not usually considered an aftermarket modification, and a person shouldn't be inhibited from installing winter tires. So all I ask is that the owners manual should make this clear. In the section on TPMS, it should say that only Hyundai-approved TPMS sensors should be used, or else it should say that if the driver installs a second set of wheels with winter tires, that this installation should be done by a Hyundai dealer and not by another tire shop. Of course, the owner could install the winter tires on the factory wheels with the factory TPMS. But this would mean that every season, the all-season and winter tires would be swapped and re-mounted and re-balanced, which is unnecessary. It is standard practice to buy a second set of wheels and TPMS sensors to make seasonal tire changeover easier. Since installing winter tires on a second set of wheels is a routine practice, and not usually considered an aftermarket modification, therefore, if this car has special TPMS requirements, they should be indicated in the manual.
I bought my 2022 Elantra less than a month ago, I drove the car on two round trips on the highway taking care-- that's it. One morning in Ottawa there was a cold snap and the bumper cracked on its own leaving sharp plastic edges on the front of the car. I also had paid almost $3,000 for an extended warranty but I don't know if the Surgeoner Hyundai dealer will replace the bumper yet. Coincidentally, while I was at the dealler another elantra almost exactly like mine had the same problem!
When changing out the wheels and tpms sensors even with the right frequency the elantra n will not pick up the new tpms sensors. They told me at one dealership it had to be the factory sensors. Then quoted me $700 for new sensors
My horn failed and keeps blowing fuses which is A band-aid for the current problem; my car poses A risk to me and my family and others on the road if A new horn cannot be installed promptly. The problem was acknowledged by "MATTHEWS HYUNDAI OF GREECE - ROCHESTER NY(14626) and I was told it'd be A couple of weeks, now i've been told an ETA of (03/30/22) which I have A email stating so. The vehicle has no warnings on the dash that let me know that the horn has malfunctioned. I was offered no options from Hyundai Corporate other than to wait for the horn.
My check engine light came on before the car reached 700 miles on it. The car acts like it does not want to accelerate, but the RPMS go up- I have cruised at 60mph (and at 35) and tried to move over to a different lane to avoid upcoming vehicles and the car won’t accelerate. Merging onto the freeway, again I’m gaining speed, and then the car quits accelerating. I have had the accelerator all the way down to the floor and still no power. Periodically the check engine light will shut off. I have had the check engine looked at with the reader and the code that comes on is P2261 Turbo/super charge
When attempting to engage lane keep assist and lane follow assist, it did not engage for 14 miles of my trip. I turned off lane follow assist and lane keep assist and after a few mins I turned those two back on but still did not engage. Vehicle had 147 miles at the time and had 235 miles left in gas tank. Stereo speakers cut out at high volume due to speakers getting hot.
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 93 total NHTSA complaints filed over 6 years, with the worst year being 2022 (34 complaints).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 26/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
The recall (red dashed line) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.
Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2023, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
