AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION

SummaryHyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.
Read full details...
ConsequenceIn the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.

ODI #11620078FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

My 2016 Genesis coupe will spontaneously, randomly accelerate, full throttle. I can't stop it until I throw it into neutral. There doesn't seem to be any common factor for it to happen. More often it was on the start up but sometimes as I was driving in traffic. The incidents are usually far apart. I have nearly wrecked too many times, so I parked it for good until I find the solution. I won't sell it and cause another person to possibly wreck or injure others. The local Hyundai dealership kept it for two months and test drove it but the problem didn't reoccur. They said nothing showed on the diagnostic (that past history on the diagnostic may have been erased) and they found no incident reports on this. So now I don't have transportation as my old truck is in the shop with transmission issues. Prob from over use. I can't afford to buy a new car until I can sell this one. Anyone know anything? The different occurrence is thorough out 2023 until parked approx April 2024

2300 STARTED MY CAR TO GO GET LUNCH (AT WORK). I FIRST NOTICED THAT MY LIGHTS WERE NOT ON (THEY ARE SET TO AUTOMATIC) SO I TURNED IT BACK ONE AND THEY TURNED ON; HOWEVER, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT. ALSO NO SOUND WHEN USING SIGNALS. LASTLY, THE SEAT BELT CHIME WOULD ALARM EVERY 15 SEC OR SO, THE WARNING LIGHT ON DASH STAYED ON. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE CAR (WENT IN STORE) AND RESTARTED IT ALL SEEMS TO BE GOOD? *TR

ODI #11115684STRUCTURE

THE A PILLAR HINGE HAS BROKEN ALL OF THE WELLS IN THIS AREA. IT MAKE A LOT OF NOISE WHEN GOING ON BUMPS. THE WELLS HAVE BROKE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN A ACCIDENT AND OCCURRED OVER A FEW WEEKS OF DRIVING.

ODI #11045058ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

AFTER REFUELING, STARTED VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT AUTO-ON HEADLIGHTS DID NOT WORK AS I HAD TO TURN THEM TO THE MANUAL "ON" SETTING. NEXT, MY DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK AND THE DASH LIGHTS BECAME EXTREMELY BRIGHT. NEXT, MY SEAT BELT CONTINUOUSLY "CHIMED" WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH IT ON. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY TURN SIGNALS, WHEN ACTIVATED, DID NOT MAKE A SOUND. I DROVE LIKE THIS FOR ABOUT (30) MINUTES IN THE EVENING.

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 7 NHTSA complaints on file for the HYUNDAI Genesis Coupe — a relatively low volume that spans from 2017 to 2024.

The amber reliability line averaged 98/100 across the vehicle's life — relatively stable, with the lowest point of 89/100 in 2020.

The red dashed line marks recall issuance — the first recall came 3 years after owners began filing complaints, a lag that indicates the manufacturer was slow to formally acknowledge these problems.

Red dots on the amber line flag 2020, a year when complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
