Deferred Failure Risk
Components and defects approaching or past their known service milestones
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

Car randomly will not start or will start but have no RPM's. Last year showed a crank shaft sensor code and had it replaced but car is doing it again.

THE BACK DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY. THE DOOR WILL TRY TO CLOSE BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP SLAMMING THE DOOR UNTIL IT WILL FINALLY LATCH. I ONCE DROVE A FEW FEET AND THE DOOR HAD TO BE HELD SHUT. IT FINALLY CLOSED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED LAST YEAR (2025) ONCE I READ ON REDDIT THAT A TSB/EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED. BUT I WAS TOLD THAT IT DIDN'T COVER MY VEHICLE AND IF I BROUGHT IT IN, A DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND FEE TO FIX IT WOULD BE CHARGED. SO I DO NOT OPEN THAT DOOR ANYMORE, BUT THAT IS NOT SAFE. I''M AFRAID IT WILL OPEN AT SOME POINT WHILE I AM DRIVING.
Car just turns off randomly. This has happened at least 6 times within a month. Once on a highway. Last time it turned off a strange sound was coming out of the car also.
So I have a suspicion oh a connecting rod, might be a bearing but it’s making a tik tik noise, no other issue than that, no engine light no nothing, been doing it for a while but car still goes great
Issue: Hyundai recall denial for paint peeling defect My vehicle qualifies for the Hyundai paint-peeling recall, and the paint deterioration matches the defect described by Hyundai. Despite this, Hyundai has denied my recall repair twice. Approximately 2 1/2 years before the recall was issued, I applied a small touch-up to the affected area to slow the deterioration. This was done solely to protect the vehicle and occurred long before any recall existed. Hyundai is now using that minor touch-up as a reason to deny the recall repair, even though the underlying paint defect was already present. The paint continues to peel and worsen. Hyundai's refusal to honor the recall appears unreasonable and inconsistent with the purpose of a safety/defect recall, especially since the touch-up did not cause the defect and was done years before Hyundai acknowledged the issue. I am requesting that NHTSA review Hyundai's handling of this recall and their denial of legitimate claims.
My car turned off while it was in drive. The oil pressure light flashed on for a second then disappeared. The car did not have anything else seem like it is wrong. I was put in dangers way because it turned off right before I was about to turn onto a very busy street and if it had done that in the middle of the street I would have gotten into an accident.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic, who informed the contact of a Manufacturer's Extended Warranty Coverage for the failure and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 53,600.
No accident has occurred as of yet (for my case). Ongoing issues with Hyundai left brake bulb and center brake bulb burning out due to over-amperage. These two are on their own 10A circuit separate from the 5A circuit for the right brakelight bulb. It appears that these two bulbs are possibly receiving 15A and therefore burning out prematurely (3 months or less). I recently replaced these two bulbs at the same time, and now my battery is shorted. To keep my battery charged, I need to pull my 15A Brake Lamp fuse while the car is parked. This has now caused my ABS light to come on, as that system relies on the signal from the 15A brake lamp circuit. I suspect that some 15A components (10A+5A) received 20A (15A+5A) and welded shut. I am still looking for it to trace it down, resources are limited and I'm intent on just buying the $35 diagnostics book. Hyundai dealership did not inform me that this fuse was pulled while I drove home from the shop yesterday, creating an unsafe condition. They quoted me $500 to replace a brake lamp relay and the ABS (I'm assuming the whole ABS, but maybe just the control module), I declined. My plan for now, as this car isn't driven much, is to trace it down and find the shorted component. From my research, this is clearly affecting many years of Hyundais and Kias, not just my Elantra and not just my year. In fact, it's SO common that there are facebook groups (such as this one [XXX] ) dedicated to helping owners remedy this defect. I think a recall service, and a full investigation of what is electrically wrong with these cars, and what the actual remedy should be, is necessary based on the amount of cars that could be impacted. Hyundai & Kia technicians I am SURE are intimately knowledgeable about this issue by now and us owners are on the hook, having only 80,000 miles of warranty on anything purchased used. Please reach out with any add'l questions. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I received confirmation from my local Hyundai dealership that my 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is consuming over 1.8 quarts of oil every 1000 miles. The mileage is currently 70k miles. This is not the result of lack of maintenance or neglect but because of Hyundais engine design. I was told by the local dealership that I would need a total engine re build. This was the only option to fix the issue 100%. I was told that if the issue is not fixed it will result in engine failure. Hyundai is not recalling their engines or acknowledging the inherent danger this will cause. I am at my engines will if I cannot afford this repair because Hyundai won’t honor the Powertrain warranty.
While driving on the freeway at normal highway speed, the vehicle experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure. The engine immediately lost power, and the vehicle shut down within seconds. There was no prior warning or opportunity to take corrective action. The vehicle became completely disabled and could not be driven. This occurred late at night with limited traffic, and I was LUCKY to be near a freeway exit. I was able to coast toward the exit, but the engine seized fully, resulting in total loss of propulsion and blocking the freeway exit ramp. Law enforcement had to assist due to the disabled vehicle creating a traffic obstruction and safety hazard. A tow truck was required to remove the vehicle because it could not be restarted or moved. Under normal traffic conditions, this sudden loss of engine power at freeway speed could have resulted in a SERIOUS, potentially FATAL COLLISION. The outcome depended on luck, timing, and location rather than any safety system functioning as intended. The engine was later diagnosed by an authorized Hyundai dealership as seized due to internal failure. Hyundai denied warranty coverage because a software safety campaign had not been completed prior to the failure, even though the failure occurred suddenly and without warning, leaving no opportunity to complete the campaign. However, at the time of the failure, the NHTSA recall lookup tool showed ZERO unrepaired recalls associated with this vehicle’s VIN. The campaign referenced by Hyundai is intended only to detect certain engine conditions and does not repair engine defects. In this case, the engine failed before any detection or warning could occur. The vehicle had just been refueled and was equipped with four brand-new tires, confirming it was being operated normally. This incident involved an unexpected and complete loss of engine power at freeway speed due to an apparent engine defect, presenting a SERIOUS SAFETY RISK to the driver and other motorists.
Engine turns off unexpectedly when driving. all power steering and brakes stop working when engine itself off. entire engine, drive train, and vehicle shakes while driving. Transmission is a replacement as first one failed after 90 days of purchase. paid labor for replacement and waited over 6 weeks without a vehicle. Now replaced oem transmission slips out of gear. making vehicle difficult to drive as the transmission and engine sputter and make ride jerky. car has turned off on the freeway in traffic 3 times. almost causing an accident each time. car has been robbed at least 5 separate times. stealing items within the vehicle. car was locked and next day it is unlocked and my stuff all gone. i am scared to drive the vehicle. i believe it is a lemon.
On [XXX] I was struck by a OVI driver at 50mph the side airbags deployed however the front airbag never deployed. The vehicle was totaled out my insurance company. The vehicle had no record or open recalls for the airbag and had been given a multiple point inspection in November 2024 with no issues noted. The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her daughter attempted to adjust the front driver's side seat while the vehicle was turned off, the front Driver-side air bag had independently deployed. No warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact's daughter's left arm was injured on impact with the air bag. Medical attention was sought, and further medical diagnosis will be scheduled. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
The coolant system is failing after it was fully replaced in November of 2024 and i got The car of may 2025 with only two previous owners. Coolant system failing after me only have the car for 6 months when the car sat for 5 months.

Vehicle started to violently lurch when shifted into drive. A week later loud clunking sound also started when shifting into drive. Sometimes would not go into drive and had to use manual 1st, 2nd, etc. Reverse was fine, no issues. No dash lights ever came on. Auto parts store had error code P0722. Have a diagnostic appt in a week at local Hyundai dealer. We may attempt to replace input/output speed sensor to solve, but probably will let dealership do diag first. Mileage approx 84686. Very dangerous at stop lights if can not get car into drive. Crash risk is high.
I own a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, and the engine makes a noticeable knocking or “tapping” noise when started cold. The sound resembles piston slap and usually lessens as the engine warms up, but it’s been gradually getting louder over time. It’s most noticeable for the first few minutes after startup, especially in cooler weather. I’m concerned this may indicate premature piston or cylinder wear. I’ve found many other 2016 Elantra owners reporting the same problem online, suggesting it may be a design or manufacturing issue. The vehicle has been properly maintained with the correct oil grade and regular service, so this shouldn’t be happening at this mileage. This could eventually lead to engine failure or costly repairs if the piston or cylinder surfaces deteriorate further. I’m reporting this so NHTSA can track the issue and determine if it poses a broader reliability or safety concern.
The trunk latch was recalled. I supposedly got it fixed in July 2024. It was functioning at the time it was supposedly fixed. It Does say it’s a safety issue. Now it is not working, exactly the symptoms of the recall, not open from the inside. There isn’t a key hole to open it. My belongings are inside, and if I get a flat, there is no way of opening the trunk. I’ve called their corporate office. They want to charge me a diagnostic fee, of $200.00 to check the recall. Isn’t it their legal obligation to check if the recall has taken affect?
My fuel pump comes up and my check engine light saying that it needs to be replaced when I fill up my car it automatically resets my mileage for AAA and trippy and it will tell me that I have no gas even though I just filled up or it will say I’m full when I know I’m empty so it’s not reliable. It comes and goes. And then for an electrical issue my Car will randomly stop working and then like come back up and it was underneath the positive plug. there is a clip that someone had to extend because it was too short and causing electrical surges so it’s still a problem if I go over a bump it gets loose so that clip under the positive terminal I believe is loose and makes my car shut off in the middle of driving at once and then it came right back on
No incident as of yet, however there are multiple Hyundai vehicle owners whose air and lights have come on after having the vehicle for at least 5 years. Other manufacturers have issued recall notices on this matter, but not Hyundai.
Paint delamination has exposed bare metal on hood/roof/trunk. Corrosion is spreading, which can compromise crashworthiness and latch integrity. Additional peeling near the window trim near the roof is beginning to corrode. This part of the vehicle is structural and could compromise roof strength. This issue is a world wide(yes Canada too) has understood this issue and has consistently been on the news.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra equipped with Waterfall Tires, Tire Line: Eco Dynamic, Tire Size:195/65/R15, DOT Number: 48AEYUEN. The contact stated that while performing an oil change on the vehicle, the contact discovered that the steel belt was exposed on the front driver’s and front passenger’s side tires due to severe tread separation. The dealer that sold the contact the tires was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tires had exceeded the 90-day warranty period. The contact was then informed that the tires were still covered under warranty through the manufacturer. The contact made several attempts to reach the tire manufacturer through email but had not received a response. The tires were replaced. The tire failure mileage was approximately 12,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 134,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle jerked with an abnormal sound coming from the transmission while shifting gears. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure due to a workmanship error. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired due to the cost. The dealer notified the manufacturer of the failure and submitted a request for a new transmission. The manufacturer declined the request. The contact notified the manufacturer and was informed that there was no Extended Warranty on the vehicle declined to offer any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
My trunk latch hasn’t worked since January. I took it in to McCarthy Olathe Hyundai in Olathe, KS on January 13th for an appointment but they didn’t have the parts available so we rescheduled. When the parts were in, my fiancé took it back on February 18th, 2025 but was told that the repair couldn’t be done since there was previous trunk damage. I explained via the telephone that the damage to my truck was minor from an incident two years prior and that it hasn’t caused any issues with opening or shutting the trunk since. But the gentleman I talked to reiterated that the recall repair to my trunk latch couldn’t be done. I recently found out that the recall was marked as completed when it was not. I don’t know what to do!

Bought a 2016 Elantra in 2020 with 44,000 miles on it and a clean repair/ maintenance history. Let me preface the rest of this by saying I am an ASE certified mechanic of 15 years who has been in the industry even longer. The first major issues I incurred with the vehicle happened approximately one year after purchase. The lifters started tapping and not long afterwards (about a week) I had a total engine failure on my hands. I was almost killed by a passing semi truck that was merging on to the interstate but was luckily able to avoid it and get the car on the side of the interstate where I had it towed to Ralph Sellers Hyundai in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Long story short , even though the second owner is entitled to a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty, they made me pay for a new engine. Here we are only 19,000 miles later and the same issue is occurring; except this time due to the stress the failing engine is putting on the torque converter the transmission is now failing to do its job properly. I have been back to the dealership but they offered no help except lies (they told me my high pressure fuel pump was bad, this model doesn't even have one!!!!!) I fully intend to sue Hyundai of America unless some appeasement can be made. Do not EVER buy a hyundai, they are trash cars made to look nicer than they are. Additional details will reflect most recent incident with engine/transmission.
I was driving normally down the road and all of a sudden I lost control and couldn’t turn my vehicle apparently the control arm rusted from the subframe, causing me to swerve hit a curb and cause more damage to the front end. Thank God I was on a not so busy street! I could have killed myself or someone else all because this company’s metal rusted out.
While driving the car will stall regardless of speed or distance. Hyundai dealership states that this is due to a drop in oil pressure due to a faulty oil pump. I replaced this pump 18 months ago on 6/7/2023 with 87K miles. The car is displaying the same issue again on this date (1/14/2025) with 104K miles, and I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they state that it is experiencing the same oil pump failure. The service department at the dealership stated that this is a known issue with these Hyundai Elantras, and this would be the third replacement of this oil pump. It was replaced once by the original owner under warranty. My contention is that this is a safety issue, because when the oil pressure dips the engine shuts off, and we lose all power to the car. This is a danger to us if this happens while driving the car.
engine noise knocking sound, car hesitates and vibrates, reduced power...all getting worse...I try to avoid driving the car as much as possible.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that upon inspection, it was discovered that the interior emergency trunk release was inoperable, and the trunk could not be opened from inside the vehicle. The contacted stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V146000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES); but the vehicle experienced the failure listed in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 154,000.
The transmission continues to stall. Very dangerous….as I was pulling into a gas station and the car stalled. When placed into gear the vehicle would not drive forward and began to roll backwards. The vehicle is available for inspection. Due to the sudden stall a serious accident could have occurred. I took the vehicle to a mechanic and he confirmed that all fluid levels were good but the vehicle is in need of a completely new transmission. The current transmission can’t be repaired. The vehicle showed no warning signs or lights prior to incident. Can’t drive the vehicle as it is not safe. The vehicle is parked in a garage to avoid accident. The vehicle was driven low mileage over the last year.
I am writing to formally request an urgent investigation into a potential recall for my vehicle, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT. I purchased this vehicle in 2017 and completed my payments in March 2023. However, in late July, I experienced a catastrophic failure that has rendered my vehicle inoperable. While driving home from work, I suddenly experienced a complete loss of power. My car slowed down significantly, forcing me to pull over to the side of the road. Once I came to a stop, the engine failed to restart, despite the dashboard lights and radio functioning normally. It has now been over two months since my vehicle has been non-operational. After taking it to a certified repair shop for diagnosis, I was informed that the engine is seized. The estimated cost for repairs exceeds $13,000, which is financially unfeasible for me. This situation not only poses a significant financial burden but also raises serious safety concerns. A sudden engine seizure while driving can lead to dangerous situations, potentially endangering both the driver and other road users. Given the severity of this issue and its implications, I urge the NHTSA to investigate the possibility of a recall for engine-related issues affecting the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT. It is crucial that affected owners receive the necessary support and that safety concerns are addressed promptly. Thank you for your immediate attention to this serious matter. I look forward to your prompt response.
I own a 2016 Elantra with around 140,000 miles and the car just stopped going forward the car only goes in reverse, no warning light came on, no other issues or warnings that there was something wrong with the car.
I hear a lot of sounds from the engine of my 2016 Elantra that’s only 96600 miles. It sometimes pulls back even though I step on the gas, and when the car is not moving it shakes a lot, though there is no problem according to my mechanic.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
The sun visors on both the driver and passenger sides of the car are made of plastic (under the fabric material). Both visors no longer work properly. The plastic body of the visor has cracked and broken which causes the visor to no longer stay in the up position. The passenger side only stays in the down position. But the driver side is at an awkward position where it sticks out. It will not stay up and it does not go down. The vehicle has not been in an accident to have caused this to happen. The car has had one consistent driver within the family and the primary driver is typically the only person in the car. The broken visors are not from being abused or misused. The fact that the driver side visor protrudes and impedes the drivers view is a safety concern. If the car were to be in an accident the sun visor is at an angle that it could potentially cause face/head contusions. The passenger side visor failed roughly 3 years ago. The driver side visor failed June 2024.
Just driving down the road and the drivers side front window fell down. I tried to push the switch for to make it go lback up because it was windy and rainy. It just made the window drop down more. I was wondering if anyone else has had this complaint . It’s pulled back up and taped but it won’t go back up and tape keeps coming loose. It’s expensive to fix . I also fixed my trunk latch which was on a recall because when I called the dealer at that time there was no recall on it. I was stuck at Walmart and it wouldn’t close. The dealer wanted over 700 to fix trunk latch so I bought the part to fix it but I am checking to see if anyone else has complained on the window motor .
This car is consuming oil to the degree that it is empty 1,000 miles after an oil change. The engine has stalled out on the highway twice, and once on a back road. It will not accelerate properly, and won’t go over 40 mph. I had the catalytic converter replaced less than a year ago, and I am experiencing these issues all over again.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the RPM fell to ZERO(0) and the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to the destination. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I was driving down the interstate when my car completely locked up, my brakes stopped working, the steering wheel wouldn't turn, the car completely shut down, so I had to make my way off the bisy interstate luckily I didn't have an accident so I took it to a mechanic and found out the alternator went out, so it was replaced then less than a year later i had issues with the headlights not working then magically comong on while driving, and the interior lighta will work then bot work but the bulbs are new, leading to another replacement alternator, then less than about 8 months pass and I have issues with the electrical stuff again not wanting to work even when new bulbs are pit in the car, the radio turning on and off by itself and I've had to put it a third alternator in less than 3 years, it's a driving hazard and safety hazard. My driver side door handle will only open from the inside and it doesn't shut inkess the door is locked and the car has to be turned on. The belt in my 2016 hyundai elanyra looks like it's shredding and it's throwing black stuff on the inside of my hood. I've had preoffwsional mechanics look at it and the alternator is assembled correctly, and now my ball joints are all of a sudden needing to be replaced inthe front.
I purchased a new vehicle, 2016 Hyundai, from a local dealer, with a current mileage of 47,000. Hankook tires were OEM with the vehicle. I religiously bring my vehicle into the dealer for all maintenance, including rotating and balancing the tires every 3,000 miles. The first set of tires FAILED (less than 3/32) at approximately 23,000 miles. The dealer indicated that I need new tires and that the tread wear failure was more than likely due to a defective set. So, they sold me another set of the same tire. I was in the dealer the other day for maintenance, oil change, tire rotation, etc. and was told that the new set of tires have 3/32 left on them and that I need a new set of tires. These tires have approximately 24,000 miles on them. The Hankook tires that I have are supposedly warranted for 70,000 miles. The tread failure at 24,000 miles means I have approximately 1/3 of the use - advertised warranty and actual life expectancy is fraud - it is no where close. It is a gimmick to prorate and hook the consumer into buying another set of tires. The dealer is trying to sell me, yet again, ANOTHER set of tires. At this point I have gone through TWO SETS of Hankook tires, within 47,000 miles. This is not normal. OEM tires on my Honda lasted twice as long before having to purchase a new set. Yet, the OEM and new set that I purchased are averaging 23,000 miles each, with a said warranty of 70,000 miles?

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V146000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure related to the recall campaign; however, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving and making turns, there was a significant amount of water leaking from behind the glove compartment onto the front passenger's side floor. The contact stated that the failure mainly occurred while making turns. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The car antenna cover flew off while I was driving. I was not speeding. Car has never been in an accident. Car has not gone through a car wash. This could have hit the car behind me had they been closer.
The following dealerships owned by Paul Peebles, Humble Hyundai, North Freeway Hyundai and Baytown Hyundai are unwilling to service the recall unless a customer schedules a return appointment to have $1,040.64 dollars of recommended repairs. On [XXX] I made an appointment for [XXX] for the recall service. When I presented, they told me that they did not have the part because they could not order it until I came in to have a photo taken of my VIN & odometer. I was told I needed to come back and gave me a 21-point estimate of required immediate attention work needed. One of the items was an alignment noting Tires - Damage/Abnormal Wear. The four tires on my car were purchased from Discount Tires on [XXX] and the alignment was done at NTB on [XXX]. So obviously, this was fraud. I became very upset on [XXX] realizing I had wasted my time and money and then to top the insult was being lied to. My sister had the same recall serviced in Austin and did not need to make two appointments for the recall. When I took my car to North Freeway Humble on [XXX] to have the recall serviced, I was told that I had been put on a DO NOT SERVICE LIST by the three dealerships owned by Mr. Peebles, Mr. John Ray, the General Manager at Humble Hyundai and Tim Shipe, Service Director of the three dealerships, Humble, North Freeway and Baytown. I would like an independent mechanic shop to service the recall. I no longer trust my car to be serviced at the above dealerships due to their dishonest business practices. Please help. I contacted Hyundai Customer Service to request an independent mechanic shop I could have the recall serviced and they told me that I needed to have the work done at a dealership. They recommended dealerships three and four hours away from my home. Please assist me in finding an intendent mechanic to service the recall. I no longer trust my car to be serviced at the above dealerships My VIN [XXX] & [XXX] need service. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Haven't had any issues at the moment, but was wondering if the clock spring has ever been recalled on these vehicles.
Took car for a couple of recalls was working fine, then after the recall it did not want to accelerate or work. Called dealership that did it and they refused to fix that.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V146000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, after the recall repair was completed, the trunk latch no longer opened the trunk as designed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was informed that a fee would be charged to complete the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,200.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V146000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the dealer would not perform the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact called the manufacturer and was referred to the dealer. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the trunk independently opened. The contact pulled over and was able to close the trunk. The contact related the failure to the NHTSA Campaign. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The recall (code 256————-41D029R1) was fixed on my Hyundai Elantra today on April 23 2024.
The contact daughter owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart after 5 minutes. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where is it was diagnosed with engine failure, and that the catalytic converter failed due to oil entering from the engine. The contact was informed that the engine and catalytic converter and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the trunk failed to open when the trunk lever was pulled from inside the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V146000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I received a notice of the recall for the trunk latch function for my 2016 Hyundai elantra. I had to pay $450 out of pocket for this exact same problem in October 2022 and I want a refund. I was parked and went to open the trunk. Not only did the latch not work but also the trunk wouldn't close.

I just know that my vehicle has a high use of engine oil. I took it to the dealer about a year and half ago to have it checked but they said that was normal but the more I read up on this it sounds like it is not normal. Also the clear over spray paint on all 4 door handles has come off and the rear hatch top window spoiler has completely peeled off also.
Bought the car a yr ago and transmission started slipping and stalling sometimes even engine shutting off while driving at higher speeds unable to steer and when pulling into traffic is on interstate almost got hit because I could not speed up it's also using double the fuel while driving longer distances I tried to use my warranty 2x before my warranty was up but both neither time did Hyundai in Owensboro check what I booked the appt for. First one was booked to check transmission and power issue then called the day before and added oil change. When I arrived the tech retyped my order and changed the oil. Brought my keys I asked about the power/transmission issues and was told they didn't know to check that but at that point there was no time and had to reschedule... So I did. Waited almost 2 months booked appt for transmission / power issue and also check the fuel usage. Finish the service call quoting me over $1300 to fix the fuel issue because no one could find my warranty eventhough I had my original paperwork showing who warranty was with and also the acct number for the warranty. When I asked about transmission or power issue I was told there was no one to check that and I had to rebook but this time it was going to be 8 weeks and by then my warranty had expired. I feel like Hyundai did this on purpose because they are in cahoots with the lot I bought the car from. Now my car is getting worse and worse and scared to even drive the car im overpaying for. This was my first Hyundai and more than likely will forever be my last because the car I got was a lemon it seems, the customer service was worthless and the service even worse. I'm reporting to BBB and everywhere I can.
Initial report on March 7, 2022 (approx. 94K miles), second report on Dec. 12, 2023 (approx. 111,700 miles). Third report March 27, 2024: Recent event occurred on March 23, 2024 (approx. 112K miles) when my vehicle suddenly stopped moving while driving 55mph on a freeway with child passenger in the vehicle, putting both of us at risk for collision. Vehicle did not have any warning lights turn on prior to or during event. The vehicle did not move again after multiple attempts to accelerate to exit freeway safely. After shifting to neutral and back to drive, the vehicle suddenly jolted and accelerated randomly while holding foot on the gas pedal (no control over timing of acceleration). We were able to exit the freeway safely. This same issue repeated multiple times while driving us to a safe area to call for a tow truck. The vehicle was towed to dealership location it was originally purchased at on March 26, 2024. Diagnostics appointment scheduled for March 28, 2024. I have completed oil change services on this car about every 1,200 miles to keep the engine running since there was no solution for any of my previous reports to dealership (even when opening a case with Hyundai), their previous determination was to close case since the diagnostics report did not show error codes in report. Previous dealership advisor made a verbal comment that the real problem is something their computers do not scan codes for, and his recommendation was to "drive it til the wheels fall off" after paying thousands in services that did not solve the root problem. Hoping this appointment will lead to a safer outcome.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V146000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in park(P), the trunk failed to lock when the contact attempted to close the trunk lid. The contact used a rope to keep the trunk closed. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The seat belts have failed to latch and/or unlatch on many occasions.
For the past three years I have had to add oil to my car proir to the 3000 mile mark that is recommended. As of the past year, I have had to add oil every 1000 miles. I have had several oil changer businesses tell me that they see this issue all the time with Hyundai vehicles. My car is used to get me to work, doctor appointments, children to school/appointments, grocery store. I live seven minutes from my work. I live three minutes away from the store I grocery shop at. And two minutes from my children's school. I am now starting to hear noises in the engine and I'm fearful this has caused further damage to my car. If I had been made aware of this persistent issue at the time of purchase, I would not have chosen this vehicle. The car never indicates that I'm low on oil. If it runs low prior to the 1000 mile mark it makes an awful rattling noise. My car has been taken into the Hyundai dealership where I live and the issue hasn't been fixed, because they can't fix it. I am very surprised there has not been a recall of these vehicles for this reason.
A few years ago, my 2016 Hyundai Elantra hatch stopped opening. The hatch lever next to the drivers seat as well as the key fob button stopped working. I know there was a trunk latch recall number 208 from Oct. 2021. Hyundai told me there’s nothing I can do about it. I haven’t been able to get into my trunk for 3 years.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Available for inspection upon request. Please do! Loss of power. Reported same issues a year ago. Brought to dealership, sold on other services that did not solve problem. Opened a case with Hyundai. No solution. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Random loss of power. Hyundai rep stated it’s a problem their systems do not actually scan for so it’s common this won’t appear in inspection reports. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Dealer rep drove my car and mentioned he noticed it tries to accelerate when idle, but without a code he can’t do anything about it. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? A Hyundai dealership inspection was completed. Suggestion I buy a new engine. I declined since the multiple repairs paid for already were supposed to fix the problem, but they didn’t. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights for anything in over a year but I am still dealing with same loss of power and acceleration control issues.
There are times when I turn the key and everythings turns on, lights, radio, air/heat, dash lights but the engine does not. I have been stranded multiple times and later the car will start. Replaced starter and it was not the issue. Battery tested fine.
Paint peeling off in huge sections. Clear coat is fine but the paint is coming off in large amounts down to bare metal. Car is white in color
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the emission valve sensor needed to be replaced. The contact's son diagnosed the vehicle and retrieved the DTC code: P0017 (Crankshaft Position). The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the emission valve sensor, variable valve timing (VVT), VVT intake, camshaft position sensor, timing chain, and camshaft sprockets; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
The rear trunk latch released while traveling down highway. A Hyundai Dealer confirmed "internal trunk latch failure". Other models of Hyundai have had this problem recalled not this year. There was no warning.
Clockspring Failure. 2016 hyundai elantra, 123k miles. Airbag light on, horn does not function. Likely unavailable for inspection due to being replaced soon. Inability to use horn to alert reckless drivers swerving into my lane. Airbag will not deploy if needed in an accident. The dealership seemed aware that the clocksprings go out in Hyundai's and is confident this is the issue. Warning lamp prior/at the same time as the horn stopped working.
Trunk latch inoperable does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 401. Similar previous recalls 21V619000.
This issue is the catalytic converter. Mine went bad and affected my clutch and my acceleration. This led to many safety issues!
Component or System that Failed or Malfunctioned: Engine or other I was driving my 2016 Hyundai Elantra in Kissimmee, FL, 34746 when the engine suddenly lost power and the car stalled out. The rpms dropped to 0, and the car could not be restarted. I was able to coast to the side of the road, but I was nearly hit by oncoming traffic. After several minutes on the side of the road, I was able to restart the vehicle to arrive safely home. The vehicle also shuts off at stop lights, drive-through, or idle. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The loss of power while driving could have caused a serious accident. If I had been in the middle of the road or if there had been more traffic, I could have been hit by another vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, I have not yet taken the car to a dealer or independent service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, the vehicle or component has not been inspected by anyone other than myself. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The check engine light seems to come and go. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this safety problem. I am also requesting that Hyundai Motor America recall all 2016 Hyundai Elantras that may be affected by this problem. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
AFTER MY OIL CHANGE 2500 MILE LATER THE DRAIN PLUG FELL OUT FOR NO REASON
So we went to Take Five in Kenosha for an oil change on the way home the oil filter snapped off completely.
My elentra is BLUE....the courage of the hood has faded. Wish you could see it. It has gradually faded. I purchased ii 2019
Brake and fuel lines corroded due to failure of manufacture to coat lines completely. Lost brakes completely without warning. Confirmed by Hoffman and Burnham auto services. Also contacted Garvey Hyundai who stayed this is a problem with these vehicles. Contacted Hyundai customer service as there is a Recall issued in Canada for this problem. Hyundai stated no foreseeable recall in the U.S. Lost of brakes could be deathly, not to mention high risk of fire and death if fuel lines corroded thru
I bought the car used from a dealer a year ago. I've made sure to keep the oil changed and have regular maintenance. I was driving home after work, and in the middle of highway 49, going 65mph in the left lane, the car stalled and came to an abrupt, jolting stop in the middle of traffic, causing several other cars to nearly hit me before I was able to get a man who was passing by to help me get the car off the road to safety until I could have it towed to a mechanic. It wouldn't crank or start. After he replaced my starter, it cranked and seemed fine. I headed home but halfway home it began knocking on the passenger side of the engine, getting worse with acceleration. The oil is at the proper level, so it's not from lack of oil. After reading online, I realized that this is a common problem with Hyundai..
All 3 brake lights stopped working over the weekend & there was a recall for all other years except for 2016. This is a serious problem & Hyundai has been having major recalls on their vehicles as of recent
I do know it’s the catalytic converter it causes the car to stall while driving and it’s going to cost 1500 just for the part that’s not including the labor
The paint on the roof right above the windshield is peeling off. I've gone online and seen pictures of other white elantras with paint peeling. I was told by Crestmont Hyundai that my car is not part of any recall. I had the car at Crestmont Hyundai on April 28 for a recall for an anti-rust undercoating and the pictures that were taken do not show any type of damage to the area.
Car was turning off while I was driving it. I would be driving and the car would literally just stop... this is very dangerous at high speeds. Just got a call from the dealership and they said it is the engine and is $7,000 to repair. The car only has $120,000 miles on it and it has been maintained well!
As I was driving all of a sudden my power steering light and traction control light would pop on my car and my wheel would lock up on my making it extremely difficult to navigate. Would happen randomly at different speeds and scenarios. Once turned on when I was getting on the Delaware Memorial Bridge, another time on a highway, and happened while I was turning. Brought it 4 times to a dealership and the techs have done nothing to actively fix the problems. It’s very upsetting bc I take pictures of it because I feel like nobody believes me and I feel unsafe driving this car.
My 2016 Hyundai Elantra had an oil change and mechanical check up on April 14, 2023. Everything was considered to be working correctly. 2 days ago, upon turning the car on to return home, the motor completely dies without warning. This car was purchased 5 years ago and has been properly maintained. In addition, while there hasnt been an official recall with Hyundai, many people like myself have experienced this same issue in one way or another.
While driving on 4/24/23, engine suddenly died and it was revealed to be a blown motor, even though the car was inspected during an oil change and nothing was found to be an issue. Lack of notification or accountability regarding this issue is infuriating.
The trunk latch in my 2016 Hyundai Elantra is broken. I brought it to the dealer in 12/2022 and showed it to them, and it had been failing for some time. It would not open using the latch next to the drivers seat. That just did nothing. The guy at the dealer told me that there was no recall and it would cost $800 just to diagnose the problem. I can’t afford that so I didn’t have it done. It completely doesn’t work now. You can’t open it. If you are lucky and get it open then you can’t close it. It is barely closed right now. Light on panel inside the car is on saying the trunk is open. If I am driving and hit a bump it could fly open. The guy at the dealer ordered the part and told me to use painters tape to keep it shut in the meantime like I know what I am doing. It will cost me $400 to fix—I am on Social Security and don’t have $400–and I don’t have access to my spare tire if I get a flat tire. There was a recall for this exact part for 2016 Hyundai Elantras but it didn’t include my VIN number. Sounds to me like it should have. The dealership sent me on my way with my trunk still just barely closed. Use painters tape. Couldn’t even help me secure it. I need to figure out out how to secure it on my own as I need to drive in the highway. Don’t know what happens if I need the spare. I don’t know why it wasn’t included in the original recall. There were other 2016 Elantras. I am basically on my own on this. Nobody has paid a bit of interest. Dealer told me to call Hyundai. Hyundai told me to call dealer. Who’s on first? All I know is I feel like I am paying this $400 but I’m going to have to not pay something else—like groceries, cable, gas for the car, etc. I don’t understand. Why are some covered and some not?
My Hyundai Elantra started completely shutting off while I was driving. This happened on multiple occasions like in slow traffic and while going high speeds on the highway. This is scary and dangerous when my toddler child is in the car. I took it to 3 different mechanics and no one can find any codes or anything wrong with it---but it continues to happen and put my life and my daughters life at risk. I have seen so many people complaining of the same thing--but nothing has happened? This last dealership has had my car for 3 weeks (and counting) but still cannot find the issue. I have about 125,000 miles on the car.
My Elantra stalled while driving twice the other day. The first time I occurred on a Highway inter belt and the second occurred in slow moving traffic. I had the car evaluated by 2 different repair shops. Both said they could not reduplicate the problem or find any malfunctioning codes. No warning lights appeared when the car stalled. I had this happen before last fall. I had it repaired. They changed spark plugs, performed engine oil system purge, serviced fuel injector and air induction and realigned tires. Until the day before yesterday, the car performed well. In researching my car issue, I have learned that this is a top complaint of many 2016 Elantra owners.
I purchased my car 10 months ago. It has rebuilt title without any structural damage. The accident was in the body only and no one touched the engine. It was in perfect condition and it was driven without any problems for the last 10 months. Two weeks ago, I noticed a ticking noise come from the engine whenever the car accelerates. The noise wasn’t exist before, it just happen. I took the car to firestone and they stated that it is common problem in the engine appears in this model. I took it to the dealer (Hyundai of Cookeville) and they state that engine require replacement and it is a harmful issue. I looked over the internet and I found that it is common problem between owners of Hyundai Elantra especially 2012 to 2016. It is worth noting to mention that there is no any warning lamp turned on to warn me that there is an issue. My car has a low mileage 90700. It is weird to breakdown its engine especially I change the engine oil before the due date. Please help me and other owners to get a recall on the engine because as stated by the dealer it is a harmful problem and requires engine replacement. I appreciate any help you can provide to save my family and other families of Elantra owners.
The brake line on the car rusted out, and subsequently ruptured, leading to a loss of brake fluid and a total loss of brake function. The failure was quite abrupt. The fluid leaking had been noted within 24 hours of brake failure, but the brake warning lights only came on after the rupture had occurred and were noted at the same time that the brakes failed to work. The rupture happened while the car was being backed out of the driveway, but before entering the roadway, and the car was able to be safely towed to the dealership for an assessment. Repairs and a brake line replacement are being planned, and the dealership has documented and photographed the brake line corrosion and rupture. A recall is currently underway in Canada for this exact problem in this model of the Elantra (among other years and models) but there is nothing yet being reported for customers in the United States. The vehicle has spent most of its time in the Northeast US since its original purchase, so it seems reasonable to assume that the climate conditions here (being similar to Canada) have led to the same brake line failures.
Disk brake backing plates rusted through, flaking. Could lodge in brake pads.
No mechanical issues . Left work one morning driving to work . Made it home turned the car off .and the car never cranked back up . Sent to shop for assessment says the motor . I have routine maintenance done . No check engine light appeared . Car had been jerking on and off
my transmission failed while driving, car stopped being able to accelerate, i was luckily in my neighborhood but if this happened on a major road I could’ve been seriously injured or even killed. i had to tow it to a local shop and they said they have to completely replace the transmission. no prior warnings on the dashboard or any indications my car was about to fail. I only had slight issues a week beforehand. this vehicle is unsafe and costs thousands to repair
My car was stolen out of my driveway, taken for a joy ride, and abandoned on the side of the road. This year/model of car is experiencing extremely high levels of theft across the nation (e.g, 7K in Chicago alone, and 59,991 nationwide through August). This is due to: 1 - the ease with which it can be stolen with no special tools, due to poor design 2 - a popular "TikTok Challenge" to steal these cars This presents an extreme public safety concern as: - the cars are typically stolen by teenagers and taken for joy rides, posing a hazard to other drivers - this can lead to dangerous high-speed police chases - having cars abandoned haphazardly on the sides of roads is a traffic hazard - owners who recover their cars may be unaware of equipment safety issues that may have been caused by reckless driving - insurers are dropping coverage of these cars, which may force lower-income owners to drive uninsured To date, Hyundai has done nothing to address this issue.
Car stutters at low speed.
Leaving work on 1/24/23 my car failed on the 4 lane, on the ramp coming into the town I live in, and again in the middle of a 4 way intersection. I only live 2 miles from where I work. My engine light was flashing, lost all power/acceleration, transmission would not switch and kept my RPM's really high, took multiple times to get it re-started, and engine was knocking/surging/sputtering. I got it taken to my local shop the next day and they told me my engine needs to be replaced. It was throwing 6 different timing codes and my oil was very shiney (filled with metal shavings). My car was not leaking oil, all services were kept up to date, any mechanical issues were always taken care of, and my car only had 92k miles on it. If the engine failure wasn't from the bottom of the engine, warranty won't cover it (mine was stated that failure was from the top). How is this not considered with the recalls of other Hyundai's that hold the same engine?
-Exterior lighting continuously burns out and I am willing to have my vehicle inspected. Lights that continuously burn out are both headlights, all blinkers, all break lights. -Since the lights burn out so frequently (sometimes as soon as you install a new bulb) I am concerned that without adequate lighting I am at risk for an accident by not being able to properly see at night, be noticed by other vehicles during rain, and risk of being rear ended due to not having adequate break lights. I have spent hundreds of dollars replacing bulbs since I have owned the vehicle and I am also at risk of getting ticketed. -I have informed the dealer of my problem on multiple visits to the dealership. The first time the associate simply responded with "Yeah, they're known for that" and asked if I wanted them to replace the bulb for an up-charge. The second time the response was "There aren't any recalls, you'll have to pay to have it thoroughly inspected and fixed". -The vehicle components have not been thoroughly inspected by anyone. -I do have a warning indication when my blinkers go out. The arrows on the dash will stay lit constantly and there is a faster pace blinker tick when it is not working properly. Other than that there are no other warnings. These issues have been occurring ever since I bought the vehicle in November of 2016. Most recent date I had to buy 2 blinkers, 1 tail light, 2 break lights, and one headlight is listed in the additional details section.
Back windshield is completely bubbled and pealing. I’ve noticed this year is notorious for it.
When I use the shift control to shift my car into drive, nothing happens. The car does not transition into drive, and when I step on the gas, the engine just revs. This happens most often after I have driven the car for at least an hour. When I shut the car off and later (5 to 10 min) return to my car, I can not get the car to shift into drive. It will go in reverse and neutral but not drive. When I start the car first thing in the morning, the car goes into drive with no problem. I have to avoid parallel parking due to fear of not being able to get the car to go into drive after I have shifted in reverse to parallel park.
Driving then while stopped at a red light out of no where the engine starts shaking like crazy, once it turned green and I took off the engine light came on then immediately turned off after accelerating. Add oil Was working perfectly fine until a week later it did the same thing the. Engine light came on but seemed faulty as it would blink, shut off then be solid, and then fluctuating like crazy then all that stopped after the car was turned off. Later that day I drove it and it wasn’t accelerating properly. Next day when getting it looked at the second we started it white smoke everywhere
The engine stalled after fluctuating power from the throttle and accelerator. The engine began making a knocking sound as I tried to bring the vehicle off to the side of the road with a loss of engine power. No warning lights or indicators displayed on the dashboard the indicated the engine was malfunctioning. This malfunction or engine defect caused a serious decrease in speed which impeded the flow of traffic leading to to the chances of being in an accident or having the engine explode without warning. This vehicles malfunction jeopardized my safety, my passengers, and the other drivers on the road.
Car suddenly started to jolts while decelerating from 25mphs -20mins. Car “stall & jolts” from park to drive. Stuck in park for a couple seconds. Dangerous , unable to go from park to drive is a safe timely manner No check engine light or trouble codes, car is maintained
The trunk latch has malfunctioned, exactly what is happening with 2016 Hyundai models that are recalled for the trunk latch not staying latched. Suddenly the latch will no longer stay closed. There were no warnings.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her son was driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was a hole in the engine block. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The manufacturer offered to cover a percent of the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
Was driving about 25 mph coming to slow down to turn and my car just died there was no warning no lights came on the dash the car just shut off put it in park and it started with no problem it has done it three times even while I was just driving down the road wasn't stopping or anything
Trunk latch won’t work, there is a recall on other models for this problem but they say this isn’t on recall
2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COST ASSOCIATED WITH REPLACING A TRUNK LATCH ON VEHICLE.
Fuel Injector went bad in engine with 77k miles & they won’t honor the repair. The car had a knock sensor recall that I never received a letter on & received no warning that the engine was failing.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving out of the driveway, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. During the incident, the engine's RPMs suddenly increased before the vehicle erroneously accelerated forward and crashed into a tree causing body damage to the vehicle. During the crash, no injuries were reported and no police report was taken. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 58,000. The contact stated that the failure occurs very rarely at approximately 1 to 2 times a year.
idle was rough when car was at the stop light, etc. Took car in to the dealership and they confirmed the issue. Car engine replacement has been approved by Hyundai Motors. I think that the NTSB should be looking in to this as there are currently 71 cars ahead of mine, with the same issue, at this one dealership. Other Hyundai dealership must be having the same issue, this cannot be happening only at this dealership. My engine will not be replaced until April, 2023. It is now October, 2022. That is the reason why the dealership has no cars to loan, the wait list for their car loaners is four months. I am the only owner of this car. I purchased it brand new from this dealership, and have followed the advised maintenance for this car. The "Customer Care" (big joke) told me that I have to pay for my own rental and that they would reimburse only a portion of the rental. I seriously think that this is a recall issue.
My engine has almost completely burned through its oil twice. I have done routine oil changes and maintenance on the vehicle and the first time this happened, I had driven 3,000 miles since my last oil change (full synthetic, so it should be able to go up to 5,000 miles). The second time, it was out of oil at 1,200 miles. I took the car to Hyundai after the first incident and they said no error codes came up, so there was nothing they could do. This safety issue could cause my engine to stall mid drive, causing a potentially fatal accident. There are no warnings that the engine is low on oil, making this an even more alarming and dangerous defect. Hyundai will not help consumers with this issue, and there is a class action lawsuit against them right now for this problem. Many are saying the exact same thing happened when taking the vehicle into the dealer; they were turned away and charged for no help. I was told to just keep putting oil in my car, but it has gotten exponentially worse since this all began.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 35-40 MPH, he looked in the rearview mirror and noticed that the trunk of the vehicle was open. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he was unable to lock the trunk using the lever on the front seat, key fob, or the button on the trunk door. The contact continued driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the next availability would be in February 2023. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
88,750 miles - Engine began profuse knocking suddenly when traveling down the road under 50mph. Stopped at a service center and they found no oil in the engine. Like THOUSANDS of others with the same complaint, the engine burned the oil which caused it to destroy itself LONG before the oil change interim had arrived.
I believe it is the transmission/ power train that failed. It slides gears and the engine stalls. While driving, I was almost hit because I could not speed up. I had to decelerate in order for the gear to not stutter.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 48 mph, the trunk door erroneously opened. The contact stopped the vehicle to investigate the cause of the failure. The contact discovered that the trunk latch had malfunctioned and the trunk would no longer remain securely closed. The contact used a rope to secure the trunk. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 51,000.
The back windshield where the tinting is placed continuously peels or has bubbles in the tinting causing me not to be able to see safely or accurately.
At 75,000 miles my engine randomly blew on the freeway, I rolled down the off-ramp where I lost all power and had to put it in neutral and put the emergency brake on so I didn’t roll through a red light at the bottom of the ramp. Absolutely no warning, nothing else was wrong with the car, mechanic said oil and everything else looked perfect but that it was a manufacturer defect due to the pistons in the engine. Now I owe 8.5k on a car I can’t drive because neither insurance nor Hyundai will take responsibility. Great
Going through oil like crazy, continuous engine knocking
On 06/10/2022 Going down the road went to shift gears and it was stuck in 5th gear. Finally got it released and safely made it home. Ever since you can shift the gears and reverse while engine isn’t running but once I turn on the vehicle it refuses to shift into any gears including reverse. I have a FIXD OBD2 sensor and it showed no warning messages before, during, and now. No codes are showing up when plugged in. Matter of fact it says there’s no issues with my car ? I had a mechanic take a look since he was willing to come to my house considering I currently don’t have the funds to get it checked out & he said it’s probably my clutch has went out, but that can’t be the case considering it will turn on still. I have no messages appear on the dash & I have plenty of transmission oil. Today is 07/08/2022 and it has just been sitting there due to the fact I’ve lost my employment and can’t afford to have it looked at
The paint is peeling off my Hyundai Elantra and I only have 28000 miles on it. It started peeling 2 years ago. I can supply pictures. I visited my local Hyundai dealership, where I bought the car, they made me wait for an hour then told me there was nothing they could do. I noticed someone scratched the paint with a fingernail from their workshop. I also called the Hyundai corp and they said there was nothing they could do.
The trunk latch stopped working. There was a recall in 8/2021 for the same issue with Hyundai and Kia models. I strongly believe this recall should be extended to include 2016 Hyundai elantras because this is a safety issue. God forbid someone were to get stuck in the trunk they would have no way of getting out as I do not have a trunk release button on my key fob or a key hole on the trunk itself. The only way to open the trunk is the lever on the drivers side floorboard which stopped working abruptly approximately one month ago. I live in SC and I strongly believe the heat has something to do with the malfunction. Heat was implicated in the 2021 recall. Please assist as this is a widespread issue with no solution or acknowledgement from Hyundai.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact's wife was driving approximately 12 MPH smelled a burning odor, as she parked at the residence she saw smoke emitting from under the hood and the vehicle ignited and began to burn. The contact stated that the engine caught on fire. The contact stated his wife did not notice any warning light was illuminated. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire with water. The fire department wrote an incident report. The police department was also on scene but did not issue a report. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The front of the vehicle was severely damaged. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
Inside of my car smells like gas strongly everytime it gets hot outside. I also can see the fumes coming out of the gas tank.
The stop lamps on my 2016 Hyundai Elantra (date of delivery 7/9/2015) began to illuminate continuously on 5/13/2022 in Miami, FL - even after I turned off the engine. Consequently, my battery fully discharged. The traction control warning lamp was illuminated, too. These symptoms are precisely the ones identified in the 12/13/2017 Brake Pedal Stopper Replacement Recall Campaign 170 for model year 2013-14 Hyundai Elantras . According to the January 2018 Hyundai TSB 18-01-005 a deteriorated brake pedal stopper pad can result in the stop lamps illuminating continuously, illumination of the traction control warning lamp, the ability to move the shift lever without depressing the brake pedal, or activation of the engine management system’s brake pedal override feature. The TSB says that any of the described symptoms can increase the risk of a crash. It appears Elantras manufactured after model year 2014 were produced with defective brake pedal stoppers. For example, see NHTSA ID Number: 11292278 (12/31/2019 complaint – Davie, FL) and NHTSA ID Number: 11182014 (2/22/2019 complaint – Orlando, FL). AAA jump-started my car and I took it to Braman Hyundai in Miami today. Sure enough, they found that the brake pedal stopper pad deteriorated and that led to a complete battery discharge. They replaced the brake pedal stopper pad and battery. Both the dealer and Hyundai Consumer Affairs say too bad - 2016 models were not part of the recall (for the same brake pedal stopper pad). The danger from Hyundai's defective brake pedal stopper continued through2016 models delivered in 2015. 2015-16 Elantras should be recalled to replace the brake pedal stopper - and frankly Hyundai should pay for owners' out-of-pocket expenses incurred due to the defective brake pedal stoppers (in my case over $600 for the brake pedal stopper pad and battery - including labor). WHY IS RECALL 170 NOT EXTENDED TO 2015-16 HYUNDAI ELANTRAS?
April 2022 Car engine stalls while at stop sign or light. Started happening once or twice every few weeks. Took the vehicle to two repair shops but could not diagnose the issue. Vehicle giving no diagnostic codes or warning lights. May 2022 vehicle is now stalling and losing acceleration while driving on busy highway, leaving me and my children on the highway shoulder. Car loses acceleration and coasts to a complete stop. No warning lights have come on previously. Could not book an appointment with Hyundai dealer until June 25, 2022. As of June 3rd 2022, check engine light is on and car having trouble starting back up after stall. Vehicle is stalling and losing acceleration 2-3 times a day no matter the speed. Booked appointment with Hyundai dealer in another area for June 9, 2022.
The car stalls at low idle intermittently. The transmission is leaking badly and won't drive. One day the engine began smoking badly. If I hit a dip in the road well braking the brakes don't work at all for a second.
My 2016 Hyundai Elantra started jerking and losing acceleration power. I got stuck at a stop sign because the car lost the ability to change gears. It felt very unsafe to be stuck in the middle of traffic and have to wave people around my vehicle at night. I’ve taken it to two different mechanics who have both said my vehicle has experienced premature transmission failure due to a factory defect. The car has 90,000 miles. I am a second owner so my warranty ended at 60,000 miles. There was no warning or dash lights. It was very abrupt and unexpected.
I was driving my vehicle damages stop accelerating the check engine light battery light and all light all came on in a vehicle just came to a complete stop and did not let me restart the vehicle. This has happened to me a second time.
Engine Code: P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor 'A' Circuit Severe Issue Consequences of Continued Driving - Rough running - possible Misfire - May not start In my case I was at work and it wouldn’t start at all. It ended up having to be towed. Had the battery tested and it was fine then I bought a “FIXD” sensor and it told me the problem
My daughter and friend were in an accident, traveling 50 miles an hour and hit the center barrier on the highway. The air bags didn’t employ. The Minnesota Department of Transportation came up on the accident right away and got them safely off the highway so they wouldn’t get hit by other cars. They have provided us with the video of the accident. My daughter and friend had no protection due to air bags not deploying. She has been seen by a doctor for whip lash, neck and headache pains as symptoms. As well as being traumatized by the incident me lack of protection. We have sent the pictures and video to the insurance and they are reviewing to determine if the vehicle can be repaired of totaled. Although, question as to whether they would fix it with what appears to be defective air bags. We will not put her back on the vehicle if repaired without some air bag inspection. Traffic control told her not to call police at accident site due to danger of being on the highway. We did extensive research on the car before buying and we don’t show any recalls as of today. We are very lucky they weren’t seriously injured and don’t want this to happen to anyone else.
So back in November of 2020 I had a few instances where my car had issues shifting into a different gear while I pressed the gas. It was like it stalled and was suspended for a moment making a really weird noise and then got punched into the next gear super fast and made a bad noise. I was driving between 20-35 miles when these occurrences happened. I went to the Hyundai dealership and had them look at my car but they found nothing. The mechanic test drove it but they found nothing was wrong. The attendant made notes on my account about all of this so that there would be a record. He told me to come in again if I had any more issues like this. Fast forward to now March 19th 2022, there were 4 occurrences in one day, where my car felt like it was stalling differently. While I was pressing the gas pedal driving between 20- 30 miles when suddenly it felt like there was a delay like liquid trying to pass through a tube but bubbles of air were blocking it from getting the liquid to flow. Which made my car shake and feel like I was driving over a bumpy road. I feel like if there had been cars in front of me for the first few instances, I could have rear-ended them. Luckily, that was not the case. Now, for the other occurrences on March 19th, 2022 if a car would have been going faster behind me, they could have rear-ended me, especially because of the stalling in acceleration. I've made an appointment with the dealership for the end of this week but I am rrying to go in as soon as possible to get this looked at. I think its either a transmission, engine, or fuel system error just for the simple fact of pressing the gas and feeling it stall and have to force itself into a different gear.
at 94,000 still under my engine warrant and paid thousands on "guess repairs" for the past 3 months. Shakiness of engine upon start up followed by completely shutting down and not starting. I have taken it to an auto shop and TWO different hyundai dealerships that have charged me for thousands of dollars on things like new spark plugs, fuel injector flush, O2 sensor, even tested all fuel injectors and came back with no issues. Hyundai says codes aren't showing any issues and sending me home with the same dangerous symptoms!! Even the guy at dealership said "this is why I don't buy Hyundai." I can't find someone to help my case and I feel powerless. I have read so many similar online complaints for my same make and model and nobody is getting the help they need. It's WRONG for the consumer to have to pay for the mistakes made by a manufacturer. Please, somebody take this case on! My engine has all the issues described in the 2016 elantra engine recall, I don't understand how my VIN # does not show up under recall. I am at a dead end and Hyundai won't do anything but continue to charge me for services that are not fixing my car. Recent dealership even claimed he can't show me the diagnosis of codes because their "computers don't work that way." I know there is a lack of honesty. My Hyundai case manager denied the recalls I asked about that are true and all over the internet. It's like they are paid to try and hide public information just to continue to profit off services that don't fix your vehicle. Also, I have more documentation but max was 10 uploads here. I've been dealing with this since December 12, 2021. I also have video footage of what my car does upon start up from 3/05 and 3/06 where it smells like gasoline and entire vehicle shakes like it's going to explode. It all started during a cold front in Houston the day before my moving day to Oregon for new job and car has been CRAP since living in cold weather. ALWAYS a problem and not reliable.
Piston defect caused engine to seize, car was parked when engine would not start so I had it towed to Hyundai dealership where it is still. Nothing has been done to my car but was told I'm one of the persons who have been affected by the recent lawsuit that closed and I could not file a claim.
Have 2016 Elantra with just over 65k miles on it, 2nd owner, performed an oil change every 3k-4k miles. Recently performed an oil change and in the oil was an astonishing amount of medal from the interior of the engine. Classic signs of premature engine failure. The car shakes while it’s in idle at a stop light. Performed a 2nd oil change a few days later, and again CHUNKS of medal debris in the oil.
Sudden loss of power accompanied by a pinging vibration and no response when stepping on gas pedal !
The latch to open the trunk failed, which made the trunk fail to close. Earlier, the latch was not opening the trunk.
Vehicle turns off without warning while driving . No lights appear. Has been in the shop for 2 months . No codes appear on diagnostic device.
Oil consumption is 5 quarts every 3 weeks, always do proper maintaince on car and it goes thru oil at an unbeliveble rate, and spoke to other owners that have the same problem with the same year car
My car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate over 20 mph. It gave no warning whatsoever. No check engine light no dash lights at all. It seemed as if it was in some type of protection mode. I took it to the dealer and was told it was my catalytic converter. They replaced the manifold catalytic converter and sent me on my way. Within 15 minutes the check engine light was on and has been on ever since. The back of my car is covered in soot and my car uses about 4 quarts of oil per 2 weeks. My car was NOT like this before. I received a letter about a recall and when I took it to the dealer I was brushed off like it didn't apply to my car. My car was doing the EXACT thing that the recall letter stated. I have kept my car maintenance up and fully feel this is a mechanical default.
Brake lights constantly have to be replace twice a month. Wheel bearing have to be replaced twice a year. Brakes don't stop if mash quickly when hitting small hole. Its just grinding sound. My safety and others are put at risk every day. No messages or symptoms of problem till it happens, no warning lamps.
After a 290 mile work trip in my 2016 Hyundai Elantra (with approximately 43000 miles on it and regularly maintained at the normal maintenance schedule) I stopped to get gas. When I started the engine, I heard a horrible knocking noise and immediately turned the engine off. I let the engine cool down a little then started it again to get to an important work appointment. It continued knocking the entire time with no warning lights on. After work, I started the car again to drive it to a dealership, the knocking was really bad at this point. I got about a block down the street when the oil and engine light came on and the engine completely shut down while doing about 35 mph. I coasted into a parking lot, called a tow truck, and had it towed to a local Hyundai dealer. When I explained what happened to the service writer, he mentioned that Hyundai has been having a lot of problems with their engines. We went out to the vehicle and he asked me to start it so he could hear it. At that point, the motor didn't really want to start but did, and he checked the oil. He found that there was hardly any oil in it, but there were no leaks or signs of leaks anywhere. Again, I have always had the regularly scheduled maintenance done at my local Hyundai dealer which he verified. At that point, we went back inside and he said it will likely need a new engine. Now I am stuck without a car because it is at a dealership 290 miles away needing a new engine. I have taken such good care of this vehicle, for it to have 43000 miles on it and this happen is a major problem.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking space with her foot on the brake pedal, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated and crashed into the tires of another vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The contact and her husband drove the vehicle to her residence. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they were not aware of such failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the engine failed to perform as needed. The contact stated she was able to safely pull off the road and proceeded to call a tow company. The contact stated at the time of failure several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to Towne Hyundai (3170 NJ-10, Denville, NJ 07834) where they were not able to diagnose the vehicle. The contact stated that she then had the vehicle towed to Riverhead Hyundai (1800 Old Country Rd, Riverhead, NY 11901) where the vehicle remained to await a diagnostic test and repair. The failure mileage was 85,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while her daughter was driving and approaching a stop sign, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The driver placed the vehicle in PARK and restarted the vehicle to drive to her residence; however, the failure recurred sporadically several times thereafter. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle however, the dealer was not able to determine the cause of the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there were metal shavings found in the engine. The mechanic recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
Trunk will not open. Passenger side latch doesn’t open the trunk. Trunk is stuck. Rear seats do not have a button or latch to make them go down/fold. Cannot get into the trunk from inside of car. Car passenger door has no access to trunk latch. No smart key came with car, but if trunk latch is broken/damaged, there is still no way to get access to the trunk! Safety feature has no access from inside or outside the car! No key entry to the trunk! Nothing!!! A child gets stuck in this 2016 Hyundai Elantra they will die!!! No key entry to the trunk.
I was driving the car at 25 MPH, when suddenly there was a clicking noise and the car lost power. I made it to my local service shop, but they were already closed. The next morning they called to inform me that the engine had blown and that it was a common problem for Hyundai vehicles. When the engine blew, it enabled gasoline to leak into the engine compartment. I feel that this is a serious fire hazard. Even though the care had high mileage, it was in good mechanical shape at the time of the incident. I had routine maintenance performed regularly. There were never any warning indicators that something might be wrong.
This cars engine has seized and stopped working. This is an unacceptable problem and it seems as though other years have a recall for this same issue. I would like my year and model added to the recall. I am furious about this situation.
As I was driving for my job going the speed limit I heard a slight ticking/knocking sounds I pulled over right away and it sounds like the motor is knocking, the gdi in other Hyundai models have a recall for them due to faulty connection rods making the engine fail as this one is, it is going into the dealership Monday and I will provide any documentation showing the car is stock and wasn’t abused in any way or form.
The airbags did not deploy when the other driver did not comply with the stop sign, which led to him getting off the road in front of me and destroying the entire front of the car, knowing that the airbags did not deploy now. I suffer from a neck injury
The trunk latch just completely stopped working out of no where. I always use the button on the actual trunk and have never had issues before. The trunk shuts, but the latch does not lock causing the trunk to not stay closed. This happened while on vacation when I needed to use my trunk for all of my items. I had to use 3 different bungee ropes and a ratchet strap to keep it closed from the inside. I had to drive 12 hours on the highway with the trunk like this beyond scared the trunk would pop open with all of my items back there since I had no where else to put them. I think we all need to use our trunks especially when the car itself is smaller with not much room for suitcases.
I lost power while driving my 2016 Hyundai Elantra gt and also started hearing a knocking sound so I pulled over and knocking sound got real loud. A friend came and towed me home about 70 miles and the next morning I checked the oil and my oil was empty. My car has been out of commission for over a month and my mechanic says that a ball bearing is the reason for my engine failure and knocking sound.
Latch for trunk does not work from the inside by the floor at the driver seat.
Check engine light didn't come on until the car no longer went into gear. Prior to light coming on car started jumping like 3 feet when going from park to drive sometimes and would do the same sometimes after proceeding from a stop. After about 2 weeks of doing this car would only go in reverse then the check engine light came on. Had it towed to dealer to be serviced. They said i need a new transmission and cost over $6800. Car has been in shop for 3 weeks now. I filed a complaint with you guys and was told to see if Hyundai would make things right and make it a recall since it was a huge safety issue i think. However they said there was nothing they could do cause my warranty was up cause I'm almost to 130000 miles. That shouldn't even matter it was still a safety issue. I was reading and found that a lot of people were having similar issues and Hyundai does nothing about it.
My vehicle is only 5 years old and the transmission has problems. I was driving and the car stopped with an impact force. I thought that someone or something had hit me from behind. For over over 2 months, I have been without a vehicle because the mechanic shop states that the transmission need part replacements.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed him that the air bags were defective. The mechanic then referred him to a dealer for assistance and informed him that there might be a recall on the vehicle for the air bags. The contact's wife called the dealer and the manufacturer and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The inside of my front windshield and inside of back window always get a film on them when using my air vents. It is like a gas film that forms on the mentioned windows and it is not easy to get the film off. It just smears. This has been going on for a couple of years. No one seems to know why. Filters are replaced during oil checkups. What could be causing this annoying problem?
Under 70,000 miles, transmission no longer works. Left me stuck in a parking lot and will not go forward. Began with pulling motion while trying to shift and rapidly declined.
The contact's son owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power locks would intermittently unlock then lock independently with the door ajar warning light illuminated. All doors were inspected after each failure warning however, each time the doors were found to be securely closed. The contact also stated that upon parking the vehicle and locking the doors, the doors were unlocked upon return to the vehicle. The contact called the dealer where she purchased the vehicle and an appointment was scheduled for an inspection. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
My vehicle started to have a slight delay when shifted from park to drive. Within a week's time the delay turned to a very hard shift which made car jump fast and hard making tires screech yet there was no check engine light. Then it started slipping out of gear on highway then it wouldn't go into the last gear and when in stop and go traffic fall out of gear when stopped then thrust really hard burning rubber when accelerating so had to distance myself far behind other cars so I wouldn't crash into them trying to accelerate after a stop. I get home safely let my vehicle rest a few hours before attempting to take car to be inspected. So I back out of drive way and my car doesn't go into drive at all and then the check engine light comes on. Now I have a friend bring scanner and the code P0722 comes up. I am disabled and on a fixed income still paying on the car. Luckily I broke down in front of my house.
Blue paint started peeling on the rear spoiler and rear bumper and side near handle.
Anytime I hit a bump going at least 35 mph the back of my car jumps to one side or another. I've tried adding weight to the back of the car, less and more air in tires, new tires, but nothing seems to fix the problem. It has knocked me sideways on the roads and when on the highway or interstate it's gets worse as you are driving faster. Winter time I have to drive the least amount I can on the faster roads because it can get out of control. I read on hyundai forums that this has been a problem for this type of car. Some people said getting better shocks reduces the problem, but does not completely fix it. I'm worried I will get into an accident because of this. I can't afford to try new shocks, because it doesn't completely fix the problem. It is also wearing the tires much faster then they should. Consumer made several attempts to reach out to the manufacturer but no response. Vehicle has issues with rear end sliding back and forth as well as the rear axle.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. Twenty minutes later, there was a ticking sound coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle started sputtering. The contact pulled over to the side of the roadway and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the part to repair the vehicle was on backorder. the vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
OIL CONSUMPTION,IN THREE MONTHS OR 3K MILES, IT CONSUMES 3 LITTERS, I TOOK IT TO DEALER, THEY DID TEST AND THEY SAID YES THAT IS NORMAL, IT CANNOT BE NORMAL, IF I DRIVE ANOTHER 3K MILES WILL MOST LIKELY BURN THE ENGINE FOR SURE, I KEEP POURING OIL IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES
I WAS DRIVING TO NORWOOD ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD AND THE CAR BEGAN OVERHEATING SO I PULLED OVER, LET IT COOL DOWN, AND ADDED WATER TO THE RADIATOR. I DIDN'T KNOW WHY IT WOULD OVERHEAT, BUT ONCE IT COOLED, I DROVE BACK HOME. WE CHECKED THE OIL AND OTHER FLUIDS TO BE SURE IT WASN'T LOW. THE FLUIDS WERE FINE AND WE THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THE RADIATOR. THE NEXT DAY, I WENT TO A LOCAL RESTAURANT IN EASTGATE OHIO. WHEN I PULLED INTO THE DRIVE THRU, IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WASN'T GETTING POWER AND THEN SHUT OFF. I WENT TO START IT, BUT IT WOULDN'T START. THE ENGINE WOULDN'T EVEN TURN OVER. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO MY APARTMENT BY OUR MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND EXPLAINED THAT THE ENGINE IS LOCKED UP. I STILL OWE ON THE VEHICLE SO I PARKED IT AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO SAVE MONEY TO GET AN ENGINE.
ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY CAR THE FRONT AXLE SHAKES REALLY BAD CAN I KEEP IT IN THE ROAD.
PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING ON MY 2016 ELANTRA SNAPPED AFTER DRIVING OVER A NORMALLY WORN ROAD. TAKING TO A MECHANIC TOMORROW TO ASSESS THE DAMAGE. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER HAD WITH HIS 2011 SONATA AND A FRIEND OF MINE'S 2015 ELANTRA. FINDING IT VERY ODD THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL RECALLS OUT FOR THE SAME REASON ON MANY OTHER YEARS AND ON SONATAS.
MY CAR IS A PUSH START N IT WILL NOT TURN OFF .. I OUT THE BOTTOM TO TURN IT OFF BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL CONSTANTLY RUNNING IT WON'T TURN OFF
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND, THERE WERE NOT ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON. I TURNED DOWN THE RADIO AND A/C SO I COULD HEAR IT BETTER, MOVED TO THE RIGHT LANE AND SLOWED DOWN, A RED OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON BRIEFLY AND THE KNOCKING GOT VERY LOUD. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT APPROX. 1 1/2 MILES DOWN. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, HAD IT TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN VENICE. 2 DAYS LATER THEY TOLD ME IT HAD NO OIL IN IT. 5 DAYS LATER THEY SAID IT NEEDED A NEW $8000 ENGINE! I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES. I WAS 2000 MILES OVER THIS TIME, BUT THAT SHOULD NOT LEAVE 0 OIL IN THE CAR. APPROX. 60,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. AND IF OIL WAS GETTING LOW WHY DIDN'T ANY LIGHTS COME ON.
ENGINE IS CONSUMING 1.2 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES I WAS TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE THAT HAPPEN. I DON'T THINK THAT IS NORMAL AT ALL. I DRIVE MOSTLY ON HIGHWAY.
I WAS DRIVING WHEN SUDDENLY I HEAR A KNOCK IN THE ENGINE AND A GRINDING SOUND INSIDE THE ENGINE AND A MECHANIC INSPECTED IT AND SAID THAT IT IS ROD BEARING THAT THEY HAVE DAMAGE, SPEAK TO THE HYUNDAI DEPARTMENT AND THAT THEIR SYSTEM DID NOT WORK THAT THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME INFORMATION

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN FOR OVER AN HOUR, THE VEHICLE SHUT-OFF WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OIL WARNING LIGHT FLASHED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
CAR HAS BEGUN TO MALFUNCTION AFTER ONLY THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS OF A FAULTY ENGINE OR OVERHEATING. IN DECEMBER OF 2020 I TOOK THE CAR TO GET AN OIL CHANGE, IT IS NOW JANUARY 2021 AND I HAVE HAD TO ADD OIL TO MY CAR DUE TO AN OVERCONSUMPTION OF OIL. AFTER TAKING IT TO HYUNDAI I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT THE CAR MIGHT NEED TO HAVE THE PISTON RINGS REPLACED WHICH WOULD REQUIRE AN ENGINE REBUILD OR A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. THE CAR MALFUNCTIONS ON THE ROAD AS WELL AS WHEN IT IS IDLING. THE CAR WAS USED REGULARLY FOR SCHOOL BUT SINCE THE PANDEMIC BEGAN IT HAS BEEN RARELY USED.
DRIVER'S FRONT SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN CAR WAS HIT AT SPEED (ON THE PASSENGER SIDE) IN INTERSECTION BY ANOTHER VEHICLE RUNNING A RED LIGHT.
FRONT HEADLIGHTS NEED REPLACING ONE MONTHLY. HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHILE STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A WIRING ISSUE BUT SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS. THE FRONT HIGHBEAMS AND DAYLIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED FOR GOING OUT (NO LONGER WORKING) 12 TIMES IN 2 YEARS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, A KNOCKING SOUND WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT DROVE TO HER RESIDENCE AND CALLED HYUNDAI OF NEW PORT RICHEY (3936 US-19, NEW PORT RICHEY, FL 34652) AND INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT IF THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON HER WAY TO THE DEALER, SEVERAL THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RODS AND PISTON FAILED AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECENTLY HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND HAD CALLED THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,200.
ON NOVEMBER 10, 2020, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND MY CAR OUT OF THE BLUE STARTED KNOCKING. AS I KEPT DRIVING ABOUT 1/2 MILE THE KNOCKING GOT WORSE. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHEN I DID, MY ENGINE QUIT AND STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO START IT BACK UP, BUT IT CONTINUES TO KNOCK. THE CAR IS NOT FIXABLE, THERE ARE NO MOTORS AVAILABLE FOR THE CAR, AS HYUNDAI HAS STOPPED MAKING 2016 MOTORS. IM STUCK WITH A 12K LOAN ON A CAR THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE.
I'M NOT SURE THE EXACT DATE BUT I KNOW ONE DAY I WAS DRIVING FINE AND THEN LATER THAT NIGHT I WENT TO GET GAS AND MY CAR WAS ACTING FUNNY AND NOT WANTING TO GO FORWARD IN DRIVE UNTIL IT KICKED BACK AND THEN WENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, AN ABNORMAL ODOR AND AN ABNORMAL SOUND WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS LEAKING FUEL FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT VEERED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO WAYNE MAZDA (1244 STATE ROUTE 23, WAYNE, NJ 07470) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
WAS TOLD A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WITH THE ENGINE BY MY LOCAL DEALER HYUNDAI REPAIR SHOP
I WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD THAT IS 50MPH WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE I WASN'T ABLE TO AND DROPPED SPEED NO LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND JOLTING. I THEN HEARD A TICKING COMING FROM THE HOOD. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI AND WHEN THEY FINALLY DID LOOK AT IT THEY SAID THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AT STAND STILL AT A STOP SIGN AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, WHEN A TRUCK CRASHED INTO HER FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES ON HER LEFT ARM AND HAD BACK PAIN. THE CONTACT STATED AN AMBULANCE TRANSFERRED HER TO A HOSPITAL TO SEEK MEDICATION ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AS OF YET. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *BF*JB
IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS MY REAR WINDOW IS BUBBLING BETWEEN THE WINDOW. IF IT CONTINUES IT LOOKS LIKE THE WINDOW WILL SEPERATE OR SHATTER. IT LOOKS LIKE MOISTURE GOT IN BETWEEN THE GLASS AND TINT.
MY ENGINE, WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING SIGNS, SUDDENLY STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING NOISE APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING IT. WITHIN A FEW MILES ON THE HIGHWAY, THE SOUND GOT LOUDER AND HEAVIER, AND THE ACCELERATION BECAME VERY WEAK. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE CAR. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART IT WAS SO HESITANT TO DO SO THAT I CALLED FOR A TOW. UPON INSPECTION THE ENGINE WAS CONSIDERED DEAD AND HAD TO BE VERY EXPENSIVELY REBUILT. I KEEP UP WITH MY REGULARLY SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES AND HAVE MAINTAINED THE CAR PROPERLY FOR THE DURATION OF MY OWNERSHIP. THIS MALFUNCTION CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND WAS NO FAULT OF MY OWN.
SHAFT AND STEERING KOPLER BROKEN.. NO ONE ELSE CAN FIX IT BUT THE DEALER. MULTIPLE COMPLAINS ONLINE
I WAS DRIVING ON THE STREET WHEN I REACHED A STOP LIGHT. I CAME TO A COMPLETE, FULL, AND SAFE STOP. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. AND BEFORE THIS DAY THAT THIS ALL HAPPENED, THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT DRIVING CONDITION. NOTHING WAS WRONG FROM WHAT I COULD TELL. I THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON, IN THE FRONT OF TRAFFIC FORMING BEHIND ME. IT KEPT SHUTTING OFF EVERY TIME I WOULD STOP OR SLOW DOWN. IT HAPPENED ABOUT 7 TIMES BEFORE I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM.
DIFFICULTY STARTING. SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAVE TO SIT FOR AN HOUR OR TWO TO GET IT TO START. STALLED AT RED LIGHT. BURNING GAS FASTER THAN NORMAL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD CRANKSHAFT SENSOR HAD GONE BAD. REPLACED.
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE FOR A YEAR NOW. I TOOK THE CAR TO HYUNDAI SEVERAL TIMES TO GET MY VEHICLE SERVICE AND EACH TIME THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEMS I AM EXPERIENCING ARE A DELAY IN ACCELERATION, CAR SHUTS OFF OCCASIONALLY WHILE DRIVING, CAR SHUT OFF OCCASIONALLY WHEN SWITCHING TO REVERSE, THE CAR ALWAYS SHAKES AND MAKES A WEIRD NOISE JUST BEFORE SHUTTING OFF. THE CAR JERKS WHEN DRIVING SPONTANEOUSLY, LOW TAPPING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD THAT COULD BE HEARD INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAVE VIDEOS OF MY CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND BACKING UP. I ALSO HAVE VIDEOS OF THE TAPPING NOISE AND SHAKING JUST BEFORE SHUTTING OFF. THE LAST TIME I TOOK MY CAR TO BE SERVICED I WAS TOLD THAT THE OIL PRESSURE PUMP AND EXHAUST CVT NEED REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD THE HYUNDAI TECHLINE INSTRUCTED THE TECHNICIAN NOT TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I WAS ADVISED BY A HYUNDAI CASE MANAGER TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO ANOTHER HYUNDAI SHOP TO SEE IF THEY CAN DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, TURNING LEFT. *TR
AIRBAG IN DRIVER SEAT IS BULGING INSIDE THE SEAT MAKING THE SEAT UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNSAFE. IT JUST HAPPENED FROM USE OF THE CAR SITTING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT.
POWER STERRUNG LIGHT KEEP COMING OFF AND ON. 1 WEEK I CAN DRIVE IT WITH NO PROBLEMS AND THE NEXT WEEK I I CAN'T. WHEN I DRIVE THE MY WHEEL FEELS LIKE IT WILL LOCK ON ME. SO I AVOID DRIVING IT ANYWHERE. I DONT WANT ANYTHING TO HAPPEN TO ME WHILE IM DRIVING THE VEHICLE
THE CAR DOES NOT TURN OVER WHEN YOU INITIALLY START CAR YOU HAVE TO TURN THE KEY BACK AND TRY STARTING AGAIN IT HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY DOING THIS FOR OVER A YEAR AND NO MECHANIC CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. OTHER THAN THAT THERE IS NO ISSUES WITH THE DRIVING.
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR THE ENGINE TURNS BUT WON'T TURN OVER. THE CAR DOES THIS MORE OFTEN IN VERY COLD WEATHER. EVEN IN WARM WEATHER IT WILL START SOMETIMES AND SOMETIMES I HAVE TO TRY MULTIPLE TIMES AND SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE OR OTHER INDICATORS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR. THE ONLY OTHER THING THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT I NORMALLY EXPECT IS THAT SOMETIMES THE WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE IN A TIMELY MANNER. THERE IS A BIT OF A HESITATION AS IF THE FUEL OUTPUT IS NOT INCREASING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE I'M ALREADY DRIVING (FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I'M GOING FROM THE ACCESS ROAD AND ENTERING THE HIGHWAY OR WHEN THERE IS A SPEED LIMIT INCREASE OF SOME KIND). I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THE PART AFFECTED IS CONNECTED TO OTHER SYSTEMS IN THE CAR THAT HAVE AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT SUCH AS THE FUEL PUMP.
THE RED LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE PURCHASE AND HYUDAI SERVICE HAS BEEN SAYING IT IS NOTHING BRUSHING IT OFF. I
CAR PURCHASE BRAND NEW FROM DOTHAN HYUNDAI. NOTICED REDLIGHT LOOKED LIKE BABY IN A SEATBELTS. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND TOLD IT WAS NOTHING. HD CAR SERVICES AT HYUNDAI IN ALBANY GA AND TOLD IT WAS NOTHING.. HAD LIGHT LOOKED AT BY ANOTHER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS AIR BAG NOT FUNCTIONING AND IF I WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT MY AIR BAG WOULD NOT WORK.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY STOP AND WOULDN'T RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A HYUNDAI DEALER, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A CRANKSHAFT BEARING HAD FAILED. HYUNDAI NO LONGER MANUFACTURES THE ENGINE, SO NOW MY ONLY OPTION IS A USED MOTOR WITH 60,000 MILES. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW LESS THAN THREE YEARS AGO.
ENGINE TICKING SOUND , WHEN STARTING, VEHICLE AT 125,000 MILES WHEN FIRST HAPPENED. PERFECT MAINTENANCE, AS CAR WAS USED AS PROFESSIONAL SALES VEHICLE.
HI... I OWN 11 ELANTRA'S. 4-2013, 3-2016, 2-2018, 1-2019, 1-2020. I OWN A DRIVING SCHOOL. THEY ALL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BURNING OUT LIGHT BULBS, HEADLIGHTS ,SIDE MARKERS AND TAIL LIGHTS. I AM REPLACING BULBS 2 TO 3 TIMES A WEEK. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE SOCKETS BECAUSE THEY MELTED. THE PLASTIC HOLDERS FOR THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT ALSO MELTED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A REMEDY FOR THIS OR ONE IN THE PROCESS. I ALSO HAVE A COMPLAINT ON WHY IT SO DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE HEADLIGHT BULBS.
THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMERUS TIMES, WHETHER ON HIGHWAY'S OR CITY STREETS. DRIVING THE CAR YOU WILL FEEL IT LURCH FORWARD ACCELERATING SUDDENLY AND THEN RETURN TO NORMAL DRIVING. THE RPMS WILL BE AT 4000 TO 5000 EACH TIME. THE OTHER DAY ON THE WAY HOME FROM A FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY WITH MY 2 GIRLS AND HUSBAND, I HAD THE CRUSE CONTROL SET. IT SUDDENLY REVVED UP TO 4000 RPMS ON A CURVED HILLY ROAD. THIS HAPPENED AT 1AM. NO OTHER CARS WHERE AROUND. MY THEN 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO GET HER DRIVERS LICENSE IT DID IT WITH THE INSTRUCTOR IN THE CAR. THE INSTRUCTOR HAS HER STOP AND GET ANOTHER CAR FOR THE TEST. SHE SAID THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND COULD NOT CONTINUE THE TEST. WE HAD ONLY HAD THE CAR AT THAT TIME FOR 6 MONTHS. WE PURCHASED THE CAR NEW WITH ONLY 6 MILES ON IT. I AM NOW SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AND SEVERAL OTHER OF HYUNDAI CAR MAKES AND MODULES ON THE INTERNET. JUST SEARCH HYUNDAI CARS SURGING WHILE DRIVING AND YOU CAN SEE FOR YOUR SELF. THEY MUST BE WAITING ON A FATALITY BEFORE THEY MAKE A RECALL.
NOTHING SO FAR. JOE 12/13/2019
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CRAIN HYUNDAI OF CONWAY (1003 N MUSEUM RD, CONWAY, AR 72032, (501) 470-7300) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED 50% OFF THE COST OF THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
I NOTICED THAT MY GAS MILEAGE WAS HORRIBLE SO I TOOK IT IN AND HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND A TUNE UP DONE. THEN IT CONTINUED TO RUN BAD AND THEN IT STARTED SHUTTING OFF. AFTER LIKE 1 WEEK MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID MY ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER AND THEY CONFIRMED THE ENGINE WAS. THE WORST PART ABOUT ALL THIS IS IT ONLY HAD 54,000 MILES ON IT.
ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD WHEN PRESSING THE GAS, BUT NOT EQUAL TO THE DEPRESSION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I BOUGHT THIS CAR 8 MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. ONE INCIDENT I BELIEVE WHEN THIS HAPPENED CAUSED ME TO DAMAGE PERSONAL PROPERTY.INWAS STOPPED BEHIND A CAR WAITING TO GET TO A GATE KEY PAD. WHEN I STARTED TO PULL FORWARD THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I HIT THE KEY PAD, RAN OVER IT! THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION IS NOT TYPICALLY A HAZARD WHEN ON THE OPEN ROAD, OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS AN ISSUE WITH A SOLID OBJECT IN FRONT OF ME.
STEERING IS QUITE TIGHT AT TIMES ON SLOW TURNS; HOWEVER, WHEN FULL SPEED 0-70, SEEMS THE POWER STEERING IS CUTTING OFF AND ON AND STICKING. GOING AROUND A CURVE CAUSES THE STEERING TO TIGHTEN UP AND IT TAKES MASSIVE EFFORT TO BRING IT BACK CENTER, AND SOMETIMES THIS CAUSES YOU TO OVER CORRECT WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT'S LIKE A STICKING SENSATION IN THE WHEEL, PULLING. TIRES ARE GOOD, ALIGNMENT IS AMAZING. NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE. ACCELERATION FROM 0-45, YOU HAVE TO PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO ACCELERATE WHICH IS A NEW ISSUES THAT SUDDENLY APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR MARCH OF 2019, AND HAVE ONLY OWNED IT FOR 7-MONTHS. I DO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. *BF

THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO THE LOST OF POWER FROM THE ENGINE WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE CAR WAS DRIVEN FROM THE DEALER UNTIL THE PART ARRIVED. THE CAR HAD KNOCKING, ENGINE LIGHT/OIL CAME ON AS WELL AS HAD TO START AND RESTART THE ENGINE. I WAS LATER TOLD THE CAR HAD A MANUFACTURER DEFECTIVE ENGINE. THE CAR KNOCKS, ENGINE SOUNDS STRANGE. THE ENGINE WAS TO BE REPLACE AS A COURTESY BY HYUNDAI USA THE MANUFACTURER DUE TO MANUFACTURER ENGINE HAD RECENTLY EXPIRED ON THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE. THE CLAIMS REP FOR HYUNDAI USA SAID MY ENGINE WOULD BE COVERED LATER AFTER THE CLAIM WAS DENIED. THE DENIAL WAS BASED OF THE MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THE UPKEEP OF REPAIRS/MAINTENANCE WAS LACKING EVEN THOUGH MAINTENANCE WAS TRACKED. I ASSUMED MANUFACTURED DEFECT WAS BASED ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF HOW THE ENGINE WAS MADE. MY TRUST AND LOYALTY TO BUSINESSES ARE TRULY LACKING DUE TO THE FACT I PUT MY TRUST IN THE PROFESSIONALS LIKE THE DEALERSHIP, LIKE HYUNDAI USA IN PROVIDING A SAFE WELL MADE VEHICLE. THE CAR LOSES POWER AS THE VEHICLE INCREASE WITH HIGH SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH SHAKING AND CLANKING SOUNDS A CLANKING CLANK CLANK NOISE. THE LOSS OF POWER GOING UP A HILL AND OR EMBANKMENT SAME SOUNDS MENTION BEFORE.
AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED ON DASH
THERE IS ROUGH IDLING. SHAKES.
MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS 82,700 MILES, MAINTAINED REGULARLY. AS OF YESTERDAY THE VEHICLE STALLS WHEN DRIVING ABOVE 45 MILES PER HOUR. PHONED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAY THE WARRANTY ONLY GOES UP TO 80,000 MILES. WE ARE TAKING IT IN TO HYUNDAI ON MONDAY TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE. THE ENGINE SHOULD NOT STALL AT THIS MILEAGE.
VEHICLE HAS 115,000 MILES AND HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE EVERY 4000-5000 MILES. DROVE THE CAR 376 MILES YESTERDAY AND CAMPED OVERNIGHT. NOT 30 MILES FROM LEAVING THE CAMPSITE THIS MORNING MY CAT STARTS HAVING PROBLEMS ACCELERATING UP HOLD AND KNOCKS WHEN THE ENGINE GOES OVER 2500RPMS. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS. I CONTINUE DRIVING TOWARD THE NEAREST AUTO SERVICE STATION (30 MILES) BUT THE CAR DOESN'T MAKE IT. GOING UP A HILL IT ACCELERATED LESS AND LESS UNTIL IT STOPPED AT WHICH POINT THE BATTERY AND OIL LIGHTS CAME ON. HAD THE CAR TOWED AND THE MECHANIC SAYS THE ENGINE IS LOCKED UP AND THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE VEHICLE AT ALL. HIS RECOMMENDATION IS A NEW ENGINE. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL THE CAR DIED.
I WAS IN A DRIVE THRU AT A PHARMACY WHEN THE AIR STOPPED WORKING, CAR HAD 62,000 MILES TO DATE & UPON VEHICLE INSPECTION THE AIR COMPRESSOR WENT OUT

VEHICLE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY. I PULLED THE SMALL HANDLE BY THE DRIVER SEAT TO OPEN THE TRUNK. NOW MY TRUNK WILL NOT LATCH. IT WANT CLOSE EVEN WITH THE BUTTON ON THE KEY PHOBE.
CAR DRIVE OVER BUMPS AND UNEVEN ROADS LIKE A BOAT IN BAD WAVES STEERING LOCKS UP LIKE NO POWER STEERING IT'S VERY DANGEROUS THEY REPLACED STEERING PARTS 2 TIME THIS HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING 40 TO 70 MILES AND GOING STRAIGHT HIGHWAYS AND IN TOWN
I AM TOLD I NEED TO HAVE MY ENGINE REPLACED. MY CAR HAD BEEN MAKING TICKING AND KNOCKING NOISES AS IF IT WAS STRUGGLING TO FUNCTION. THE DAY IT BROKE DOWN, IT WAS BEGINNING TO KNOCK EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD. I WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO STALL WHILE DRIVING AS THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT STALLED AGAIN AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION. THEN WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD TO ASK FOR HELP TO PUSH MY CAR TO A SAFE AREA. THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREETS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP BELIEVING IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE AT A COST OF ABOUT $8,000. IF I REPLACE THE ENGINE WITH THE SAME ENGINE, WHO'S TO SAY THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN? I BOUGHT THE HYUNDAI BECAUSE OF THE 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY KNOWING I'D BE PUTTING ON THE MILES FOR WORK. I DON'T EXPECT ENGINE FAILURE AT THE 78,800 MILES (I BOUGHT IT USED FROM ENTERPRISE CAR SALES WITH 18,000 MILES ON IT). THE SELLING POINT WAS THE 10 YEAR/100,000 MILE WARRANTY THAT I EXPECTED TO HAVE. I LEARNED IT DOES NOT PASS TO THE SECOND OWNER. WHY NOT? HOW DOES THE DRIVER CHANGE THE APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING OF THE ENGINE?! AS I PRESSED ON WITH THE HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE, HE TOLD ME (AFTER CONSULTING WITH HIS SUPERVISOR) IT IS ONLY COVERED FOR A SECOND OWNER IF IT WAS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. I SAID IT WAS CPO AND THAT IS HOW ENTERPRISE MARKETED THEIR VEHICLES. HYUNDAI THEN SAID THE OWNERSHIP FOR THE WARRANTY IS UNDER ALAMO/ENTERPRISE, NOT ME. NEWS TO ME, BUT, AGAIN, WHY DOES IT MATTER IF THE ENGINE IS DEFECTIVE? THESE "NU" ENGINES HAVE ALREADY BEEN ESTABLISHED TO BE DEFECTIVE. WHAT ENGINE BITES THE DUST AT 78,800 MILES? MY CAR WAS SERVICED REGULARLY ALTHOUGH NOT BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE REPRESENTATIVE THEN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE WARRANTY WOULD BE INVALID ANYWAY IF IT WAS NOT SERVICED BY HYUNDAI.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR WILL STALL WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I AM DRIVING STRAIGHT WITHOUT PUTTING ON BRAKES OR ACCELERATING. I CAN RESTART IT. AGAIN WITHOUT ANY NOTICE IT STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES AND AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR.THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU LOOSE POWER STEERING AND EFFECTIVE BRAKING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. I NOTICED ONLINE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER ELANTRA OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH IS RELATED TO THE PISTONS.
WHILE DIVING MY 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT ON THE DALLAS NORTH TOLLWAY I FELT THE ENGINE LOSE HORSEPOWER. I APPLIED THE GAS JUST TO SEE IF IT WAS THE CAR CHANGING GEARS, I HEARD THE ENGINE REV, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. I LOOKED DOWN AT MY DASHBOARD AND NOTICED THAT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED TO BLINK FOLLOWED BY MY OIL LIGHT. THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STOPPED BLINKED AND CONTINUED TO STAY ON FOLLOWED BY MY BATTERY LIGHT COMING ON. I TURNED MY HAZARDS LIGHTS ON AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND STARTED TO SEE WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF MY VENTS AND QUICKLY FILLING UP THE CABIN. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WALKED AWAY. I DIALED DALLAS ROADSIDE SAFETY SERVICES AND WHILE SPEAKING TO THEIR DISPATCHER MY ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE. I WATCHED MY CAR GET COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES BEFORE HELP ARRIVED.
ON MARCH 19, 2019, MY 16 ELANTRA GT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A MAJOR ROAD IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE FULL FRONT END WAS TOTALED AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS NOT A FUTURE PROBLEM WITH HYUNDAI AIR BAGS.
2/22/2019 CAR HAS 55,000 MILES BUT FOR PAST YEAR HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH BRAKING ON UNEVEN SURFACES [CRACKS, POTHOLES] ON HIGHWAY, STREETS. WHEN BRAKING CAR FEELS LIKE YOU ARE BRAKING ON FULL METAL AND BOTTOM OF CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS COMING APART. ANOTHER ISSUE FROM THE BEGINNING OF OWNING THE CAR ARE ISSUES WITH CAR HESITATING UPON LIFTING FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR. MY SISTER WHO OWNS THE SAME CAR/YEAR, HAS THE SAME ISSUE. PROBLEMS REPORTED: SUSPENSION/ACCELERATION.
I WAS EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY ON MY WAY TO WORK. ON THE TURN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I ENDED UP HALF WAY ON TOP OF THE SIDEWALK AND HALF ON THE STREET. ALMOST KILLED MYSELF. WHEN THE CAR JUMPED THE SIDEWALK, THE AXLE BROKE LEAVING EACH OF THE FRONT WHEELS FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, THE TRANSMISSION WAS PUNCTURED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. APPARENTLY AN INVESTIGATION WAS GOING TO BE CONDUCTED BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION YESTERDAY THAT THE INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETE AND NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE STEERING. HOW CONVENIENT! EASY WAY TO GET OUT OF THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER SENDING ME A PACKET ASKING WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO "RESOLVE THIS ISSUE". APPARENTLY, I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HAVE NO CAR BUT STILL MAKING LEASE PAYMENTS. THEY DIDN'T EVEN OFFER A COMPLIMENTARY RENTAL, OUT OF SHEER COURTESY, DURING THE ENTIRE TIME. WOULD NEVER PURCHASE HYUNDAI AGAIN. THIS SHOULD REALLY BE LOOKED AT SERIOUSLY BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED.
ANOTHER CAR HIT MY CAR THE IMPACT CAUSED ME TO HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. IT WAS OVER $10,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR. I WAS PULLING OUT OF WALMART PARKING LOT ENTERING INTO THE LANE
CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. ALL LIGHTS AND ENGINE SEEMED TO STALL BUT WHEN I PRESSED ACCELERATOR AFTER A SECOND EVERYTHING CAME BACK ON. AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AND HAVE IT SHUT DOWN AND BE IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL WAS BLINKING AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (HYUNDAI ON PERRYVILLE, 343 N PERRYVILLE RD, ROCKFORD, IL 61107, (815) 229-0089) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BULBS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE BULBS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INCORRECT BULBS WERE INSTALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,021.
MY VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE GAS INSIDE THE CABIN AND I CAN ALSO SEE THE GAS FUMES COMING OUT OF THE GAS TANK ONCE IT HITS 100 DEGREES.IT IS WORSE WHEN STOPPED AND STOP AND GO TRAFFIC DUE TO THE AIR NOT BLOWING IT AWAY LIKE IT DOES WHEN YOU KEEP DRIVING..HOW IS THIS SAFE?WHAT IF SOMEONE SMOKES? OR A SPARK HITS THE GAS TANK.PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT SO I KNOW MY FAMILY AND I ARE SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN THE HEAT..I HAD THE CAR CHECKED FOR LEAKS AND NO GAS LEAKS.HYUNDAI GAVE ME A GENERIC PAPER ABOUT IT SAYING THATS WHAT IT IS SUPPOST TO DO.I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW SAFE IS THIS VEHICLE?
ROUTE 120 ST MARYS PA 15857 ABOUT 7:15AM TRAVELING AT 45MPH HIT GUARD RAILS HEAD ON PUSHED THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE CAR IN DID OVER $8100.00 DAMAGE. THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH IT PUSHED THE ENGINE BACK HAD MY SEAT BELT ON WAS UNINJURED OTHER THAN SPRAINS AND STRAINS AND ABRASIONS TO MY FACE I HIT MY HEAD OFF OF I DON'T KNOW WHAT NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED HYUNDAI TOLD ME THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE BUT WOULD TELL ME IF THEY FIND ANYTHING OR NOT. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY FOR A REPORT SO I WOULD KNOW IF MY AIR BAGS FAILED OR DID NOT AND THEY TOLD ME ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! DO I HAVE A RECOURSE TO GET THIS FROM THEM OR CAN YOU DEMAND IT FROM THEM? I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH FAULTY AIR BAGS. THANK YOU (XXXXX) PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
WHEN I AM DRIVING AFTER ABOUT 30 MINS WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS I GET A WARNING LIGHT FOR THE BATTERY,OIL AND ENGINE. THE CAR TURNS OFF AND YOU JUST COAST AND IT STALLS.
THERE IS AN ENGINE KNOCK UPON COLD START. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED 3 TIMES AND 3 TIMES HYUNDAI HAS REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING.
THE BRAKES ON MY HYUNDAI ELANTRA FAILED TWICE WITHIN 10 MINUTES. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH STOPLIGHTS. I HAD AMPLE TIME TO STOP UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, BUT WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN TO THE FLOOR, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP IN TIME FOR A STOP LIGHT AND EVEN WENT ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE STOPPING. IT WAS ALSO NOT HANDLING NORMALLY DURING THE MOMENTS WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NOT ANOTHER CAR OR PEDESTRIAN IN MY PATH. I STOPPED AND CHECKED TO SEE IF THE FLOOR MAT HAD BUNCHED UP UNDER THE PEDAL.IT HAD NOT. THINKING IT MIGHT JUST BE A FLUKE I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME VERY CAUTIOUSLY. DRIVING UNDER 50 MPH, AND TESTING THE BRAKES, THEY SEEMED TO BE WORKING. WHEN I WAS APPROACHING ANOTHER STOP LIGHT I SLOWED DOWN TO MAYBE 35 WAY IN ADVANCE. THEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO RED AND AGAIN THE CAR WAS EXTREMELY SLOW TO STOP. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT JUST BEFORE THE LIGHT BUT ONLY BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY GOING VERY SLOW, ANTICIPATING A POSSIBLE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A BRAKE PROBLEM FOR ELANTRAS A LITTLE NEWER THAN MINE. THAT WAS FOR A BRAKE BOOSTER. READING THE FIRST HAND ACCOUNTS OF THOSE FAILURES, IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT I EXPERIENCED. SINCE ONLY THE RECALLED VINS HAD THE PART THAT WAS MANUFACTURED BY MANDO, AND MY BRAKE BOOSTER WAS EVIDENTLY MADE BY ANOTHER MANUFACTURER, BUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BRAKES WAS SO SIMILAR TO THE RECALLED VEHICLE, I WORRY THAT THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THOSE CARS COULD ACTUALLY BE A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR OR ANOTHER PART THAT INTERACTS WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN THERE THREE DAYS. I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR IN THE FUTURE AFTER IT IS FIXED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE SHOOK. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE, BATTERY, AND OIL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO POHANKA HYUNDAI (1770 RITCHIE STATION CT, WALKER MILL, MD 20743, 301-899-0480) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT AN INVESTIGATION WOULD BE OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,242.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING AND ABNORMAL CLICKING NOISES WERE HEARD. THE DEALER (SPORT DURST HYUNDAI, 4507 DURHAM-CHAPEL HILL BLVD, DURHAM, NC 27707) WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,814.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERNAL EXHAUST LEAK AND A STRONG FUEL ODOR WAS PRESENT IN THE CABIN AND TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT BECAME ILL AND NAUSEOUS DUE TO THE FAILURE. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE DEALER (ABC HYUNDAI, 6825 REDWOOD ST, LAS VEGAS, NV 89118, (702) 475-8698) WAS NOTIFIED WITHIN TWO DAYS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT IT WAS A NORMAL CONDITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, CLOSED THE CASE, AND DID NOT PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION FOR THE ODOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH AND WAS PREPARING TO COME TO A NORMAL STOP FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHEN I BRAKED, A LOG CRUNCHING SOUND CAME FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND IT PULLED HARD TO THE LEFT. I RELEASED THE BRAKES SLIGHTLY AND BRAKED AGAIN. THE CAR CAME TO A SUCCESSFUL STOP. THE SOUND WAS SO LOUD AND VIOLENT, I THOUGHT THE BRAKE CALIPER OF WHEEL ITSELF HAD BROKEN LOOSE. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, I MOVED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND PULLED OVER FOR A VISUAL INSPECTION. I COULD SEE NO SIGN OF ANY ISSUE AND THE CAR WAS BRAKING FINE. I HAD SEEN A PREVIOUS REPORT ABOUT A SIMILAR ISSUE WHEN ANOTHER DRIVER HAD FINISHED A 360 DEGREE HARD CORNERING EXIT FROM THE FREEWAY. I HAD DONE THE SAME THING BUT HAD DRIVEN ABOUT A MILE AFTER THE EXIT. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 34,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS REGULAR MAINTENANCE BY THE DEALERSHIP. I WILL BE FOLLOWING UP WITH A VISIT FOR A CHECKUP. THE TIRES ARE STILL ORIGINAL AND HAVE ABOUT 5K MILES WEAR LEFT ON THEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 3 DAYS SINCE AND HAVE HAD NO ISSUE.
I PURCHASE A BRAND NEW HYUNDAI ELANTRA END OF JANUARY 2016. WHEN I START DRIVING IT THE CAR STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS FOR 2 AND 7 MONTHS I'VE BEEN HAVING SO MUCH PROBLEM WITH MY CAR WHEN GOING TO DEALER CONSTANTLY SINCE I HAD IT NOW I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER ON TUESDAY AND THE DEALER CALLED ME ON WEDNESDAY WITH THE MECHANIC EXPLAIN WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE CAR ON THURSDAY THE DEALER CALLED ME BACK SAYING THE CORPORATE COMPANY CAME OUT THEY HAVE TO REPLACE MY WHOLE ENGINE ON MY CAR I AM REALLY NOT HAPPY WITH MY CAR I DON'T WANT IT I WANT THEM TO TAKE THE CAR BACK I AM SO DONE AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS SO BAD THERE. THEY GAVE ME THE RUN-AROUND NORM REEVES HYUNDAI IN CERRITOS AND ALSO THE HENRY INN IN GARDEN GROVE ALSO.
WE WERE DRIVING ON 1-95 HIGHWAY WHEN THE FRONT TIRE DISINTEGRATED AND CAUSED CAR DAMAGE TO FRONT BUMPER, LEFT QUARTER PANEL, RIM, WHEEL COVER, AND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW ASSEMBLY. THE TIRE NAME IS HANKOOK TIRES OPTIMA H-428. THE HYUNDAI ELANTTRA BOUGHT IN 2016 HAD ONLY APPROX. 19,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD YESTERDAY, THE STEERING PULLED TO THE RIGHT VERY ABRUPTLY AND 2 LIGHTS CAME ON, ON THE DASH. AT THAT POINT THE STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THEN I AM TOLD IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY. I KNOW IN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST WITH THE SAME ISSUES.
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON A FREEWAY. THE ACCIDENT INVOLVED MY HYUNDAI, A PICK UP, AND A KIA. THE PERSON DRIVING THE KIA WAS AT FAULT. THE LANE WE WERE IN CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP DUE TO TRAFFIC AND THE PERSON IN THE KIA REAR ENDED ME WHICH CAUSE MY CAR TO HIT THE PICK UP. THE PICK UP HAD MINOR SCRATCHES AND DENTS, THE KIA HAD MINOR SCRATCHES WHERE AS MY HYUNDAI CRUSHED LIKE A CAN. MY BACK DOORS WOULDNT OPEN AFTER THE IMPACT AND MY CAR IS CONSIDERED TOTALED.
MY 17 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AFTER JUST COMPLETING A TURN, WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR BATTERY, ENGINE, AND OIL CAME ON, THE CAR SLOWED AND STOPPED RUNNING. SHE TRIED TO RESTART, NOTHING. 5 MINS LATER, A FRIENDS DAD STARTED IT WITH NO PROBLEMS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO SERVICE PLACE AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE IN HYUNDAI ELANTRA, WE WERE TOLD IT IS A "FLOODING" PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI IS LOOKING INTO. THIS SHOULD BE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL TO FIX. I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER CAR FOR HER AND SHE IS STUCK DRIVING THIS BACK AND FORTH TO COLLEGE THIS FALL. IMAGINE DRIVING A CAR THAT TURNS OFF AT ANYTIME.
STARTED ASCENDING OVER A BRIDGE WHEN CAR STARTED TO PUTTER. THEN SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE TAILPIPE. POWER FLICKERED THEN WENT OFF. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND IT WAS SMOKING. LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND SAW DRIPPING FLUID THEN A SPARK. THAT IS WHEN THE CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE.
WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED MY CAR, I WAS GIVEN A DIFFERENT CAR THAN THE ONE WRITTEN DOWN ON MY PAPERWORK. I HAD TO COME BACK IN TO GET THE CAR THAT MATCHED MY PAPERWORK. SINCE RECEIVING THIS CAR, I NOTICED A SLIGHT HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING. RECENTLY, IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE IT WILL JERK REPEATEDLY WHEN I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY ACCELERATE AND THEN BREAK WHEN THERE IS TRAFFIC. WHEN I AM JUST DRIVING FREELY ON THE HIGHWAY OR SIDE STREETS, IT SEEMS TO GET STUCK IN ONE GEAR AND NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT WILL NOT GO ANY FASTER. I HAVE TO PRESS EXTREMELY HARD ON THE GAS TO MAKE IT GO AND THEN IT WILL JERK FORWARD AND MAKE A REALLY LOUD ACCELERATING SOUND AS IF I'M A MONSTER TRUCK. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE ON THE ROAD AND IT MAKES ME NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT. THIS CAR IS MY ONLY VEHICLE SO I CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO DRIVE IT, BUT I REALLY NEED SOMETHING DONE WITH THIS.
THIS 2016, HYUNDAI ELANTRA SPORT SUFFERS FROM DANGEROUS HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC THERE IS AN EXPECTATION OF HAVE ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. I CALLED THE DEALER ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY TRANSMISSION REPROGRAMMING OR ANYTHING ELSE THE FACTORY HAD DEVELOPED TO CURE THIS PROBLEM THEY SAID NO. TODAY IT WAS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS WHEN I PULLED OUT AND IT JUST WOULD NOT GO FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. BARELY MISSED BEING INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION. I BELIEVE IT IS TIME THIS GETS REPORTED AS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY DEFICIENCY. WE HAD BOUGHT THE "SPORT" VERSION OF THE CAR TO GET BETTER ACCELERATION FROM ITS LARGER ENGINE, BECAUSE SOME OWNERS HAD COMPLAINED THAT IT WAS WEAK OF ACCELERATION, BUT THIS DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM. IT IS ONLY A PROBLEM ON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. MOVING ACCELERATION IS PRETTY GOOD.
2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FRONT PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED. *LD *JS
WHEN CAR IS SLOWING AT INTERSECTION, CAR WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. ONCE CAR IS PUT IN PARK AND KEY IS TAKEN OUT, CAR STARTS UP IMMEDIATELY. HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 2 WEEKS. SEEMS LIKE I HAVE TO PUT MORE PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL TO GO EVEN SLIGHTLY FASTER.
MY PASSENGER RIGHT FRONT TIRE HIT A CURB AND WAS FLATTENED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. BOTH FRONT WHEELS WERE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, SO IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT WHEELS AND HAVE THEM ALIGNED AS WELL. THEY GAVE ME TWO OPTIONS FOR TIRES. ONE OPTION WHICH I CHOSE WAS THE SOLUS TA-31 2204733. BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED AND ALIGNED. THE FOLLOWING DAY I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 17 MILES TO WORK VIA HIGHWAY. IN THE AFTERNOON, I DROVE 2 MILES TO GET LUNCH. WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVE THRU WINDOW, I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND REALIZED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE (OPPOSITE TIRE) HAD BLOWN AND THE NOTIFICATION LIGHT WENT ON THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS A MATTER OF 4 SECONDS FOR THE TIRE TO GO COMPLETELY FLAT. THE CAR WAS THEN TOWED FOR THE SECOND TIME WITHIN 48 HOURS TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE SHOP FOR REPAIRS. REALIZING THAT THIS COULD HAVE OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING HOME AND TRAVELING OVER SPEEDS OF 60 MPH, I THEN KNEW IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT NEW (1 DAY OLD) TIRES SHOULD NOT JUST BURST. ACCORDING TO THE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE SERVICE SHOP, THE BEAD WIRE HAD SEPARATED FROM THE RIM TO ALLOW AIR TO ESCAPE. HE DID MENTION THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO SEND THE COMPLAINT TO THE TIRE MANUFACTURING COMPANY (KUMHO) FOR COMPENSATION AND THAT IT MAY TAKE UP TO 4 MONTHS. HE MENTIONED A FEW OTHER TIRES ON HIS DESK IN A SIMILAR SITUATION. HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I FEEL THAT THE SITUATION MY HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE SERIOUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. BARNES CROSSING HYUNDAI IN TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,964.
CAR PURCHASED USED FROM PARKS HYUNDAI GAINESVILLE W 30K MILES. PRE-CERTIFIED INSPECTION OF VEHICLE NOT SIGNED PROPERLY - TIRE INSPECTION IS INACCURATELY REPORT - 1,500 MILES LATER - BLOW OUT OF TIRE - RE-INSPECTION OF ALL 4 TIRES - WORN/DAMAGE - DEEMED UNSAFE
THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 7 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. AFTER TAKING MY WIFE TO WORK, I RETURNED HOME AT APPROXIMATELY 8:45 AM. I MADE A LEFTHAND TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY (IN MOTION) AT AROUND FIVE MPH. I PRESSED ALMOST HALFWAY DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE MOMENTARILY, SO I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD AT APPROXIMATE FIVE MPH, SO I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL EVEN HARDER. HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF STOPPING WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED CAUSING ME TO RAM INTO THE LATE MODEL TRUCK PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. I TOOK MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE CAR EVENTUALLY ENDED UP HALTING NEARLY FOUR FEET FROM THE CONTACTED TRUCK. I PROMPTLY REPORTED THE EVENT TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY (ALLSTATE) TO START A CLAIM. THE ALLSTATE CLAIMS DIVISION DISPATCHED A LOCAL TOW SERVICE THAT PICKED UP AND DELIVERED THE VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER IN MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
MY VIN IS FOR A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SE/VE WHICH IS WHAT I BELIEVE I HAVE BUT A WEB SEARCH SHOWS THAT SAME VIN ON WWW.VINDECODER.ORG AND WWW.VINCHECK.COM AS A 1986 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GLS.
I PURCHASED THE 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT FROM VAN HORN HYUNDAI IN SHEBOYGAN WI ON 8/18/17. IT WAS SOLD AS CERTIFIED PRE OWNED - NO ACCIDENTS. THE AUTO CHECK REPORT THEY PROVIDED SHOWED A CLEAN HISTORY. I BEGAN EXPERIENCING WHAT SEEMED TO BE SUSPENSION ISSUES- CAR WOULD SKIP SIDEWAYS ON BUMPS AND HAD THE FEELING THAT IT WANTED TO FISHTAIL. I ORDERED A CARFAX REPORT AND IT SHOWED THE VEHICLE WAS IN 2 ACCIDENTS, AND AFTER MORE DIGGING, I FOUND IT WAS SOLD BY INSURANCE AUTO AUCTIONS TO JOE VAN HORN CHEVROLET IN PLYMOUTH WI. WHEN I PRESENTED THE DEALERSHIP WITH WHAT I HAD DISCOVERED, THEY CLAIMED IT WAS A MISTAKE AND THAT THEY HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED BY ONE OF THEIR OTHER DEALERSHIPS. THEY DID, HOWEVER, SHOW ME THE VEHICLE CHECK LIST FROM JOE VAN HORN WHICH SHOWS MAJOR DAMAGE TO THIS VEHICLE INCLUDING FRAME REPAIRS AND AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THEY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BACK FROM ME FOR WHAT I PAID AND I GOT A DIFFERENT VEHICLE THAT ACTUALLY DID CHECK OUT. THIS WAS A CLEAR CASE OF FRAUD BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY KNEW THEY WERE FOUND OUT. I AM HAPPY THAT THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY GRIEF ABOUT RETURNING THE VEHICLE, MOST DEFINITELY TO AVOID A LAWSUIT! HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE IS NOW LISTED FOR SALE AGAIN 2 DAYS AFTER I RETURNED IT WITH NO DISCLOSURE IN THE LISTING AS TO IT'S HISTORY. I BELIEVE THAT THE FRAME OF THIS VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED IN SUCH A WAY AS TO PREVENT IT FROM EVER BEING PROPERLY ALIGNED TO DRIVE SAFELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON THE AUTOMATIC SETTING AND WHEN EITHER A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS USED TO TURN, THE HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, ONCE THE TURN WAS MADE, THE HEADLIGHTS ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000.
THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 9400 MILES ON IT. IT ALREADY HAD SIX FLAT TIRES, SOME MULTIPLE TIMES ON SAME WHEEL. WE HAD THE DEALER CONFIRM SLOW LEAKS AND WAS CHARGED FOR THEM. THERE ARE STILL SLOW LEAKS THAT I USE THE INFLATOR. THE TIRES ARE THE ORIGINAL HANKOOK P195/65R15 AND NOW ONLY HAVE 9400 MILES ON THEM. MY WIFE IS THE SOLE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE AND DRIVES SLOW. SHE ONLY WORKS 10 MILES FROM HOME AND SOMETIMES THE TIRE INDICATOR TURNS ON WHEN SHE IS DRIVING AND SOMETIMES WHEN SHE GETS IN THE CAT. NHTSA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE WHEELS AND TIRE SINCE I SEE IT HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS MANY TIMES. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH DIFFERING TIRE PRESSURES.
TAKATA RECALL THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS AND SEAT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, HOWEVER THEY WERE LATE AND DID NOT DEPLOY UNTIL THE DRIVER'S HEAD HAD HIT THE WINDOW. THE STEERING WHEEL NEVER DEPLOYED. THE CAR WAS TBONED ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR BY A TRUCK GOING OVER 20MPH. THE DRIVER HEAD HIT WINDOW AND SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, NO SEATBELT DEPLOYMENT, THE CAR SPUN OUT AND UP ONTO MEDIAN AT WHICH POINT SEAT SEATBELT ENGAGED AND CAR HIT TREE HEAD ON. NO FRONTAL AIRBAGS EVER DEPLOYED. CAR HAD A 2-4" INVERSION. DRIVER HAD 7MIN LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND SUFFERED CLOSED HEAD INJURY.
I DROVE SLOWLY THROUGH THE PARKING LOT AT WORK AND PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT. INSTEAD OF STOPPING, THE CAR SUDDENLY SWERVED, LURCHED FORWARD AND CRASHED INTO THE CEMENT BASE OF A LIGHT POLE. THE CAR KEPT GRINDING INTO THE CEMENT BASE. I WAS HELPLESS TO STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF MY CAR. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS HAD MY CAR FOR ONE WEEK BUT NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE YET. THE REPAIR SHOP IS AWAITING THE DECISION FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR IS OVER $10,000. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER WHEN DRIVING MY CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN THE CAR HAS TRIED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND WOULD LURCH FORWARD. I HAVE BEEN A SAFE DRIVER FOR MANY YEARS AND HAD NEVER GOTTEN A TICKET NOR BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEFORE. I HAVE READ REPORTS OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR HYUNDAI CARS UNEXPECTEDLY CRASHING INTO PARKING GARAGE WALLS, OBJECTS, OR OTHER CARS. I DO NOT KNOW THE CAUSE OF THIS DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION OF THE HYUNDAI CAR BUT THE CAUSE NEEDS TO BE DETERMINED BEFORE SOMEONE IS BADLY INJURED OR KILLED.
2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH INVOLVED IN INJURY ACCIDENT 07/18/2015 WITH FAILURE OF DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG CURTAIN DEPLOYING. VEHICLE'S OWNER WAS MAKING LEFT TURN WHEN STRUCK IN THE CENTER PILLAR DRIVER'S SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 M.P.H. CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE PUSH SIDEWAYS APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET. THE DRIVER HAD TO EXIT VEHICLE PASSENGER SIDE DUE TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO DOORS AND SUB FRAME. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO BOTH FRONT AND REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOORS AS WELL AS DOOR SUB FRAME REQUIRING CUTTING AND RE-WELDING IN NEW DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SUB FRAME, REPLACEMENT OF DOOR HINGES AND BOTH FRONT AND READ DOORS DRIVER'S SIDE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG CURTAIN DID NOT DEPLOY AND COMPLAINT WAS FILED DIRECTLY TO HYUNDAI AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A HYUNDAI ENGINEER AND WAS NOT TOUCHED BY THE BODY SHOP AS PER HYUNDAI'S INSTRUCTIONS. HYUNDAI ENGINEER TOOK MEASUREMENTS, PHOTOS AND DOWNLOADED BLACK BOX DATA BUT THIS INFORMATION HAS NOT BEEN PROVIDED TO VEHICLE OWNER. HYUNDAI HAS REFUSED TO TALK TO VEHICLE OWNER AND PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION AS TO RESULTS OF INVESTIGATION, TO HONOR WARRANTY REPAIRS OR PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AS OF 07/05/2017 .
AFTER TWO WEEKS OF CONSISTENT STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP AND NOT BEING ABLE TO TURN KEY IN THE IGNITION I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON JUNE 6, 2017. I ALSO TURNED THE WHEEL COUNTERCLOCKWISE AND DID AS THE MANUAL INSTRUCTED. IT TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, FRUSTERATION AND BEING STRANDED AT WORK SEVERAL TIMES AND IT FINALLY UNLOCKED. MY HUSBAND HAD A DIFFICULT TIME UNLOCKING THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL. WHEN I BOUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP IT WASN'T LOCKING UP AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID IT WOULD BE LOOKED AT BUT THAT WAS A VERY COMMON HAPPENING IN THESE VEHICLES. IT WAS BROUGHT TO 6251 GRAND AVE. GURNEE, IL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS JEFFREY VLACH #49715.
VEHICLE STUMBLES BADLY 2 TO 4 SECONDS WHEN MAKING A TURN OR EVEN A LANE CHANGE SOMETIMES. DEALER TWICE. RESPONSE: EVERYTHING "NORMAL"? GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR--NO ACCELERATION FOR UP TO 4 SECONDS. DANGEROUS DANGEROUS DANGEROUS.
ONE DAY AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR MY PROBLEM BEGAN. GOING OVER SPEEDS OF 30MPH, IF I HIT ANY UNEVEN SURFACES OR BUMPS IN THE ROAD THE CAR JUST WANTS TO FISH TAIL ALL OVER THE ROAD. THIS IS A VERY SCARY THING TO HAPPEN ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY. I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO KEEP A DEATH GRIP WITH BOTH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. JUST YESTERDAY I NEARLY HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION AFTER HITTING A BUMPY PART IN THE ROAD. THANKFULLY I GOT CONTROL BEFORE IT HAPPENED. THIS WILL BE MY SECOND ATTEMPT AT THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THIS RESOLVED. DURING FIRST ATTEMPT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THESE CARS JUST HAVE SQUIRRELY SUSPENSION AND THAT'S HOW THEY DRIVE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! SOMEBODY OR A FAMILY IS GOING TO GET HURT OR KILLED IF THIS IS NOT CORRECTED. LEMON LAW IS IN MY SEARCH BAR.
WITHIN 80000 MILES I HAVE HAD TWO SETS OF TIRES AND 2 BLOW OUTS. BOTH BACK TIRES. NOW THE BACK LEFT TIRE IS DEFORMED LIKE ITS BEEN BOUNCING. I HAD ALL TIRES BALANCED AND ITS STILL DISFIGURED. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION ON THESE VEHICLES THAT HYUNDAI NEEDS TO ADDRESS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED WITH A BLOW OUT. I DRIVE 230 MILES A DAY ROUND TRIP WORK. ALL INTERSTATE. I NEED DEPENDABILITY UNDER ME. THIS CAR SCARES THE CRAP OUT OF ME.
THIS IS A RENTAL CAR, RENTED WITH 15K MILES DROVE FINE BUT TIRES WERE WORE DOWN TO THE STEEL BELTS. LOST CONTROL IN RAIN BUT RECOVERED OK.
ON 10/15/16 I WAS IN A MULTI IMPACT ACCIDENT. AFTER HITTING A CURB, SMALL TREE, TOOK A STOP SIGN OUT, MY CAR LANDED INTO A TREE IN BETWEEN TWO 10 IN. BUSHES. AS THE CAR SEEMED TO SETTLE I IMMEDIATELY SMELLED A CHEMICAL ODOR. I THEN SAW A SMALL WHITE WHAT I THOUGHT WAS PAPER APPEAR ON THE INNER STEERING WHEEL, SUDDENLY BLOOD WAS POURING DOWN MY FACE WHERE I COULD BARELY SEE. I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS ON FIRE BECAUSE OF THE SMELL. IT DID NOT SMELL LIKE GAS BUT MORE LIKE SULFUR. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO UCI TRAUMA CENTER WHERE I STAYED FOR FOUR DAYS. MY CAR HAD 6 AIRBAGS AND ALL FAILED EXCEPT FOR THE ONE I SAW WHEN MY CAR SETTLED. SINCE I BOUGHT THE ELANTRA I REPORTED TO HYUNDAI THAT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND SOMETIMES WHEN I WOULD TURN LEFT THE CAR WOULD STOP, THEN ACCELERATE FULL SPEED. I HAVE THE WORK ORDER. THIS ACCELERATION WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT. I HAVE SEVERAL WITNESSES WHO HAVE BEEN WITH ME WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE CAR DOES NOT REQUIRE THAT I RESTART IT, IT JUST STOPS THEN ACCELERATES. IT HAS DONE THIS THREE OR FOUR TIME A MONTH. *TR
BRAKES: SKIPPING AND SEVERE VIBRATION WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED ON TIGHT RIGHT CURVATURES (HIGHWAY ON AND OFF RAMPS). TIRES: HANKOOK P215/45R17 87H - TIRE SIDEWALL FAILURE, BUBBLING ON SIDEWALL AT 8500 MILES THEN TWO MONTHS LATER AND APROX. 10000. NO ACCIDENTS, POTHOLES, OR ISSUES THAT SHOULD HAVE RESULTED IN SIDEWALL FAILURE.
THIS IS OUR THIRD ELANTRA. WHILE WE LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WAY IT GENERALLY HANDLES WE ARE GREATLY DISSATISFIED WITH THE TIRES THAT ARE STANDARD ON THE VEHICLE. SINCE WE LIVE IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA AND EXPERIENCE WINTERY WEATHER WE HAVE FOUND THAT THESE TIRES ARE VERY DANGEROUS ON WINTER ROADS. WE ARE SURE THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS UNLESS DIFFERENT TIRES HAVE BEEN PURCHASED THAT PERFORM BETTER IN THESE CONDITIONS. WE HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT THE FIRST THING WE HAD TO DO WAS PURCHASE NEW TIRES IN ORDER TO DRIVE IN WINTER WEATHER. THE ADDED EXPENSE IN TOTALLY RIDICULOUS CONSIDERING THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE CAR! WE EXPRESSED OUR CONCERN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO NO AVAIL....I AM SURPRISED THERE IS NOT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING THIS MATTER. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS WILL BE OUR LAST PURCHASE OF AN ELANTRA.
WHILE DRIVING THE CLOCK WILL START TO FLASH THEN THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLASH AS THE RADIO/CLOCK FLASHES. IF HEAD LIGHTS ARE OFF THE LIGHT BY GAUGES WILL START FLASHING MAKING A CLICKING NOISE, THE BATTERY LIGHT WILL SOMETIMES COME ON AND FLASH ALSO. IF I TURN THE AIR ON THE FLASHING WILL STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 6 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND EMITTED FIRE DURING THE DEPLOYMENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,999.
MY VEHICLE DID NOT COME WITH A SPARE TIRE, BUT WITH SOMETHING CALLED A "TIRE MOBILITY KIT" WHICH IS USED TO INFLAT A FLAT TIRE (MAYBE). IN ANTICIPATION OF THE NEED TO USE THIS GADGET, I HAVE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND CAME ACROSS THIS ITEM: "WARNING: SEALANT IS AN IRRITANT TO SKIN, EYES AND RESPIRATORY PASSAGES. OVEREXPOSURE MAY CAUSE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND KIDNEY EFFECTS......DO NOT BREATHE VAPOR OR MIST.....AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND EYES....WASH THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING....IN CASE OF SKIN OR EYE CONTACT, IMMEDIATELY FLUSH AFFECTED AREA WITH PLENTY OF WATER. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT I WILL SUFFER A FLAT TIRE CLOSE TO A SOURCE OF CLEAN WATER. THIS PRODUCT IS POISONOUS AND DANGEROUS TO USE. THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE ALERTED AND THE PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITH A SAFE ALTERNATIVE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOUR AGENCY WILL PURSUE THIS MATTER WITH HYUNDAI.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND RESUMED DRIVING. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THERE WAS A KNOCKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN AND THE MOTOR WERE OFF SYNC AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND STALLED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE TIMING BELT WAS LOOSE, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS KEPT FOR LONGER THAN THREE WEEKS. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
THE VISIBILITY ON THIS CAR IS SO BAD. IN 40 YEARS OF DRIVING I HAD 1 ACCIDENT UNTIL I GOT THIS CAR. I HAVE HAD 3 MINOR ACCIDENTS IN LESS THAN A YEAR ALL DUE TO BACKING UP AND LOOKING OUT PASSENGER SIDE. WHEN YOU BACK UP YOU CAN'T SEE OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE IN THE FRONT DUE TO MIRROR PLACEMENT AND DOOR FRAME AND IN THE BACK DUE TO FRAME AND HEADREST IN SAME POSITION. I FEEL THIS CAR WAS DESIGNED POORLY, I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS BEFORE.
WHEN PARKING OUR CAR, THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. OBVIOUSLY, WE COULD NOT LEAVE THE CAR IN A PARKING LOT WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. I LOOKED AT A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE: HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=A4T6YDZKB5G AND THIS GUY'S VIDEO SAVED THE DAY. THIS OBVIOUSLY HAS HAPPENED FOR OTHER PEOPLE AND SEEMS TO BE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. WE WILL BE TAKING THIS TO THE DEALER TO FIX, HOWEVER, SINCE IT APPARENTLY HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHERS FOR YEARS I THOUGHT I SHOULD REPORT IT TO YOU. IF IT IS NOT FIXED BY HYUNDAI I WILL LET YOU KNOW. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION.
THE 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS WRECKED AT 501 MILES . I HAVE ASKED THE HYUNDAI CLAIM AGENT TO DO AN INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS DONE ON MAY 4TH AND NOT RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ABOUT RECEIVING ANY INFORMATION ON WHAT HAPPENED AT THE TIME OF IMPACT . I WOULD LIKE FOR YOUR AGENCY TO LOOK INTO HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY IN THERE AIRBAGS THAT DO NOT DEPLOY . TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE DEALER PERFORMED ANOTHER ALIGNMENT. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60.
I BOUGHT A NEW ELANTRA IN OCT. 2015 WITH 13 MILES ON IT. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT I WOULD GET NO LESS THAN 30 MILES PER GAL. I HAVE NEVER GOT MORE THAN 25 MPG I'V TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER THREE TIME THEY DRIVE IT AND SAY THE COMPUTOR SAYS YOUR GETTING 35 TO 40MPG. I TRIED TO SHOW THEM ACTUAL DOCUMENTATION SENSE I HAVE KEPT WRITTEN RECORDS EVERY SENSE THE DAY I'VE BOUGHT THIS CAR.
I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET GOING APPROX. 30 MPH WHEN THE CAR FELT LIKE IT HAD DOWNSHIFTED INTO A LOW GEAR. THE TACHOMETER WA REVVING BETWEEN 4,000 AND 5,000 RPMS EVEN THOUGH I WAS SLOWING. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT WAS UNABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AS THE GEAR SHIFT WAS STUCK IN DRIVE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, I PULLED THE GEAR SHIFT DOWN AS LOW AS IT WOULD GO PAST D(RIVE) AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO PUSH IT UP INTO THE PARK POSITION. ONCE I PUT THE CAR BACK INTO DRIVE AGAIN THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WERE NORMAL.
WE HAVE A BRAND NEW 2016 HYUNDAI ELANTRA PURCHASED JANUARY 22, 2016 AND ONLY HAS @ 4,000 MILES. THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE HAS ALREADY RECEIVED A FLAT TWO WEEKS AGO FROM TODAY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF OUR POCKET. THE TIRE IS THE STANDARD HANKOOK OPTIMO. THE CAR IS DRIVEN ON THE FREEWAY AND SIDE STREETS, NORMAL EVERYDAY DRIVING. THE DAY AFTER REPLACING IT WITH ANOTHER TIRE, IT ALSO WENT FLAT. TODAY, APRIL 11, 2016, THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIRE IS FLAT AND WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THE WHEELS OR TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM TO CAUSE THIS.
VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY IGNITED 4/5/2016 @ ~3:45PM (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED) WHILE PARKED IN A FENCED, GUARDED, PRIVATE CORPORATION EMPLOYEE PARKING LOT, DESTROYING ITSELF & BOTH VEHICLES PARKED ON EITHER SIDE OF IT. 5 MONTHS OLD, 11,000 MILES ON ODOMETER, ONLY PRIOR SERVICES WERE OIL CHANGES AT 3K & 10K @ WALMART & JIFFY-LUBE.
I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO 2 HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS TO BE LOOKED AT. WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR GETS STUCK IN A HIGH GEAR & GIVES ME A HARD TIME DRIVING UNLESS I ACCELERATE DRAMATICALLY TO DROP THE RPMS & THE CAR WILL DROP GEARS. I LIVE ON A VERY STEEP HILL & CAME CLOSE TO A VERY DANGEROUS ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS ISSUE. MY CAR DID NOT WANT TO MAKE IT UP MY HILL BECAUSE THE CAR MAKES A LOUD NOISE. THE DAY THIS HAPPENED IT WAS SNOWING & I HAD TO ACCELERATE TO MAKE IT UP & ALMOST CRASHED BECAUSE MY CAR WAS ROLLING BACK DOWN THE HILL & I LIVE OFF OF A BUSY INTERSECTION.
TIRE BLOW OUT ON HIGHWAY:( HANCOOK P215/45R 17 DRIVER SIDE FRONT) CAR PURCHASED NEW ONLY 377 MILES ON IT WHEN BLOWOUT OCCURRED. ROAD WAS SMOOTH SPEED WAS 60 MPH WAS TOLD BY SERVICE DEPT. NO BUBBLES WERE FOUND, PROBLEM IS THE TIRE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
THE SPORT STEERING IS OVER SENSITIVE WHICH IS A HAZARD. THE SLIGHTEST TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO TURN ABRUPTLY. I HAVE MEASURED THAT A QUICK LANE CHANGE COULD TAKE PLACE BY MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL BY 1/4 OF AN INCH IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND BODILY INJURY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS OCCURRED TWICE ON THE FREEWAY AND ONCE ON A CITY STREET WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 1800 MILES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR NUMEROUS TIMES. WHEN I PICK IT UP THEY SAY "ITS BEEN REPAIRED" BUT HOURS OR DAYS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS. I DEMANDED THAT THEY VOID THE PURCHASE CONTRACT BUT HYUNDAI REFUSED. I HAD TO RETAIN AN ATTORNEY WHO RECENTLY FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI REGARDING THIS MATTER (CASE # 15K14065).
WIFE WAS DRIVING A NEW THREE WEEK OLD 2016 ELANTRA WITH APPOX. 500 MILES ON IT. THE CAR STARTED TO LOOSE POWER AND JUST DIED. SHE COASTED TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WOULD NOT RESTART. NO LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING ANY PROBLEM TILL THE CAR QUIT RUNNING. THEN ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON AS THEY SHOULD. CALLED AAA HAD THEM TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED THE CAR OVER AND THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE AN ALTERNATOR. SOME TIME WENT BY, AND THE SERVICE WRITER SAID THEY WERE PUTTING ME IN A RENTAL CAR AS THE REPAIR WAS GOING TO TAKE TIME. TWO DAYS LATER GET A CALL AND THE MOTOR IS RUINED AND THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE IT WITH A LONG BLOCK. THIS IS JUST GREAT. NEW CAR THREE WEEKS OLD AND IS GOING TO BE TORE APART. LUCKY IT IS A LONG BLOCK NOT A SHORT BLOCK. THE BIG BREAK COMES FROM MY WIFE DECIDING NOT TO GO TO THE MALL THAT DAY TO FINISH XMAS SHOPPING. THE MALL IS TWENTY MILES AWAY ON AN INTERSTATE. IF THIS CAR HAD DIED ON THE INTERSTATE WITH CARS GOING 70 PLUS BEHIND HER, INSTEAD OF OUR SUBDIVISION STREET. SHE STOOD A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING REAR ENDED AND IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. PLUS NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES AND TRYING TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITH A DEAD CAR! WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN ON A SIDE STREET WITH LITTLE OR NO TRAFFIC AND THREE BLOCKS FROM HOME. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE TO HAVE HAPPENED ON AN INTERSTATE WHILE OUT OF STATE OR SOME BACK ROAD OFF THE BEATEN PATH. WE NOW WILL HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR AT ALL AND CONSTANTLY AFRAID IT IS GOING TO BREAK DOWN AGAIN. DARN SHAME.
WHEN ENTERING A FAIRLY SEVERE CURVE, LIKE A 270 DEGREE FREEWAY ON-RAMP OR OFF-RAMP TO AN OVERPASS, OR 90 DEGREE CURVES ON MOUNTAIN ROADS, AT NORMAL SPEEDS, THE ESC APPEARS TO SPORADICALLY TURN ON AND OFF AGGRESSIVELY. THE BEHAVIOR IS SEVERE. THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, HARD, ABOUT TWICE PER SECOND. HARD ENOUGH TO FEEL LIKE YOU HIT A POTHOLE. THE THROTTLE SEEMS TO BE CUT AS WELL. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOTHING WHILE IN THIS STATE, AS IF ITS BEEN DISCONNECTED. AFTER STRAIGHTENING OUT OF THE CURVE, THE BEHAVIOR STOPS. DISABLING VIA THE ESC BUTTON HAS NO EFFECT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. A TRIP TO THE DEALER (10/2015) RESULTED IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF A BAD 'LATERAL SENSOR' - THAT IT WASN'T COMMUNICATING TO THE ESC. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM APPARENTLY WAS MORE INVOLVED: THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 17 DAYS AND HAD TWO OTHER 2016 ELANTRA GT MODELS IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITH THE SAME ISSUE. ULTIMATELY THEY COULD NOT FIND A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AND RETURNED THE CAR, STATING THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT A "SAFETY CONCERN". HOWEVER THEY INTENDED TO CONTINUE TROUBLESHOOTING THE ISSUE WITH ONE OF THE PROBLEM CARS BEING USED AS A "TEST MULE". THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE LIMITED TO THE 2016 ELANTRA GT. I AM NOT ENTIRELY CONVINCED OF THE "SAFETY" VERDICT. WHILE I AGREE THAT ITS FAIRLY SAFE FOR "ME", SINCE I'M AWARE OF THE BEHAVIOR AND ITS CONSISTENT, IT MIGHT BE A SURPRISE FOR ANOTHER ELANTRA GT OWNER WHOSE FIRST EXPERIENCE MIGHT BE IN THE RAIN OR SNOW. WINTER IS COMING, AND WHILE I'M AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THEREFORE WILL TAKE CURVES SLOWER AS TO NOT ANTAGONIZE THE CAR - WHAT ABOUT OTHERS?
THE REAR OF THE CAR IS BUMPY.I HAD 3 FAMILY MEMEBERS AT THE BACK AND TRAVELLING WAS UNCOMFORABLE FOR THEM.THEY COMPLAINTED ABOUT SHOCKS GOOD.I HAVE 4458 MILES ON MY CAR.
ON JULY 6, 2016 WE PURCHASED A 2016 ELANTRA LIMITED. WE DO LIKE THE CAR. HOWEVER, IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS, JUST OVER 2400 MILES THE NEW 2016 HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS A 2013 ELANTRA THAT WE USED TO HAVE. WE WOULD PRESS THE BRAKE, THEN PRESS THE PUSH START BUTTON. NOTHING HAPPENED, IT DIDN?T EVEN TRY TO CRANK. IT WAS AS IF THE BRAKE AND START BUTTON HAD NEVER BEEN DEPRESSED. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. IT WAS DEAD AS A DOOR NAIL. THEN WE WOULD TRY STARTING THE CAR A SECOND TIME AND THE CAR WOULD START. THESE EVENTS HAPPENED WITH A COLD START AND ALSO A WARM START. WE TOOK THE 2016 CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. BETWEEN THE 2013 AND THE 2016 MODEL YEARS IT WOULD SEEM THAT SOMETHING COULD BE FIGURED OUT TO CORRECT AND FIX THE STARTING PROBLEM. WE STILL HAVE A NEW 2016 CAR THAT HAS A STARTING PROBLEM WITH THE PUSH BUTTON START.
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 282 total NHTSA complaints filed over 12 years, with the worst year being 2023 (38 complaints).
The amber reliability line averaged 18/100 across the vehicle's life — dropping as low as 10 in 2016 when complaint severity peaked.
Notably, despite 282 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.
Red dots on the amber line flag 8 years (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
