In June 2025, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly displayed multiple brake warning lights and warning messages, including the red brake warning light, ABS light, brake system warning light, and traction/slip indicator. At the same time, the brake pedal became stiff and braking effort increased suddenly, creating a near-crash situation because the vehicle did not slow normally. Before that incident, the vehicle had already been making abnormal brake-related noises, including a humming/pumping noise when the brake pedal was applied, and there were intermittent episodes where braking felt abnormal. In June 2025, the vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership during Toyota’s brake booster support program period. The dealership documented customer complaints of “humming noise in cabin when holding foot on the brakes,” a request to “scan for codes for ZJB enhancement,” and that the “vehicle hard to accelerate and brakes got stiff,” but stated that no qualifying ABS codes were present at that time. In March 2026, the same condition returned and worsened. The vehicle again displayed the red brake warning light, ABS light, brake system warning light, and traction/slip light, and braking performance was reduced. An OBD scan of the ABS control unit showed code C1391, which is associated with brake booster / ABS actuator failure. The Toyota dealership has now diagnosed the vehicle with ABS actuator and brake booster failure and quoted repair. This is a serious safety issue because braking became more difficult while driving, including on the highway, with sudden warning lights and degraded stopping ability. The failed components are available for inspection. The problem has now been confirmed by a Toyota dealership. The issue was reported to a Toyota dealership during the prior support-program period but was not confirmed then.

Brake Booster and ABS, Brake Master Cylinder went out in car without any lights or warning while driving the vehicle at a moderate speed on Freeway. I was able to avoid an accident and take the car to a repair shop in which at 119K miles and just at 10.5 yrs old the entire brake system had to be replaced/repaired.

Unfortunately, I am over 10 years and Toyota is saying that I need to pay out of pocket for the repairs. This is a known problem and should be covered. On Feb. 19, 2026, I went to an auto repair store to change oil. I was told that I need to have rear brake pad and rotor replacement service because my car does not have it. The mechanic showed me and said that I only have the front brake work and it can cause safety issue.

The above mentioned parts were identified as not functioning properly on 2/3/2026 (mileage 139, 106). On 2/6/26, I took it to Goettle Toyota, Ocala FL (mileage. 139,160) knowing there was an extended warranty program available that was admitting the parts were defective but not worthy of recall. I was advised the warranty for my vehicle expired 10/26/2025 (3 months and 8 days prior) and was now invalid. Brake replacement cost is $3675.00 + tax. I was provided warranty information and instructed to call Toyota. I called, spoke with Brook and was advised the warranty was invalid due to date even though the car has less than the 150, 000 mile covered and nothing could be done. I was never notified of this issue so I could monitor for problems before the expiration. Average life for these items on a Prius is 250,000 miles, not 139, 000. I am on limited, fixed income and cannot afford this unnecessary repair. I am already gladly driving a 10 year old car to be independent. Loss of transportation changes my entire lifestyle. I cannot afford another car (if I could, I would be fixing this one). I would be reliant FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, on others for all needs outside of my home. I live in a very rural area. I feel since I was NEVER notified of any issues and the car is LOW mileage and there should be another 100,000 miles on this car (I have driven it less than 50,000 miles in 5 years) that Toyota should honor the extended warranty based on the proximity of the malfunction to the ending of the warranty period and the LOW MILEAGE of the vehicle. ABS break actuator and abs pump failed while driving losing loss of breaking. Toyota is aware of this problem but refuse to fix this notorious and dangerous problem they have with multiple model years. I was not informed of the limited service campaign. This should be recalled as a safety to the public.

Defected brake booster hard brake suddenly car less than 100 000 miles many vehicles with the problem

I purchased a vehicle a year ago whenever my vehicle was still under the tenure and the 10 year and it’s still under 150,000 mile range. The vehicle was purchased strictly from the Toyota dealership in Lakeland, Florida, and shortly thereafter my brakes completely went out and the booster actuator assembly looking it up by further realize that is a very common issue and that there is so much that there’s class action lawsuits and also instead of it having a recall, it has a customer support to replace parts. My car is very dangerous and doesn’t have any brakes and it’s still very new from the dealership. What it’s very interesting is that it’s not throwing any codes at all, though it beeps the entire time that I’m in the vehicle with the ABS light on and I know that it’s that problem why is it not showing any codes I think that for sure, the dealership would’ve had to done something to prevent that in order to sell the car unsafely

While driving, my brakes became mushy and ineffective. Brake warning lights came on, also. It was very scary driving in rush hour traffic with little to no brakes. There was no reliability. Just keeping as much as possible space between cars, using Hazard lights &prayer.

The vehicle has 95k miles on it and both brake actuator assembly and booster pump have gone bad. This is a defective issue, I called toyota and was told too bad since the program that fixed this ended 02/25. The car met the mileage requirement, but being 10 months out of the date gives toyota the right to wash their hands on a defective part. The part is over $1500 just in parts to replace! This is wrong on their part. Not one option offered.

This vehicle has 95k miles, now the vehicle has a brake problem which can cause deadly problems. The parts that have gone bad on this car are defective parts that toyota knows about. The warranty they extended for this ended in 02/2015. They had 150k miles or 10 years limit on that warranty. We are well under the mileage and 10 months over according to toyota. Can’t believe they will dismiss something this delicate and dangerous. The parts are not cheap and it’s something we can’t afford to fix right now. I can’t believe Toyota will just wash their hands on something this important in a vehicle. This is a know defective part! They should have some sort of responsibility and resolution. The brake accumulator went out thanksgiving day on my way home nearly causing an accident. I also missed dinner due to the issue creating a clearly unsafe driving condition where I was barely able to use my brakes. This is a known issue by Toyota, whom extended the warranty to 10 years. Of course, my warranty was 3 days past the 10 years even though it is under the mileage requirement. This should have been a recall, as it is a known and reported problem. I am now out 3300$ for the repair just to get my car in an operable condition. There were no warnings, the abs light as well as the traction alert went off and I lost the ability to properly brake in an instant. There was no warning, nor was I notified about this part.

The Brake Booster system failed two weeks after the Toyota Customer Confidence Program for that condition ended and they will not reimburse me for a $3000 repair. I knew there was a problem because all the dash lights came on at once while we were driving on a highway. I had it towed away to be repaired and it was found that the brake booster system was failing. Had I ignored it or not acted as immediately as I did the brakes could have failed while the car was in use and hurt or killed me or someone else. They should issue a recall for this condition and fix it for Prius models that still need it and they should reimburse me.

The ABS, BREAK, and Traction Control, suddenly turned on when I was traveling on the freeway in mild traffic. I was traveling at about 60-65 mph. I attempted to use the breaks and could feel a substantial difference in how much and how hard I had to push in order to stop. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle was inspected by my brother in law who works on cars frequently. There were no warning symptoms prior to the problem. The problem first occurred on Saturday November 1st at about 12:30. According to my brother in law, it was the break pump that failed; you can hear air escaping when you push on the break pedal.

I was driving from Las Vegas to my home in Los Angeles. An alarming message began flashing on the dashboard telling me to pull over. The vehicle became hard to control. I somehow managed to get it off an exit. I was "lucky" enough to get it towed to a nearby Toyota dealership where I was told the inverter had failed and that that inverter and associated parts had to be replaced. On my 2015 Prius with only 50,000 miles on it. I SPECIFICALLY asked if there had been a recall on the electrical system of any 2015 Priuses, and they flatly said no. I also CALLED TOYOTA, and they also said there were no recalls involving the electrical system or inverters. The Barstow Toyota dealership said it would cost over $5,000 to repair AND that they wouldn't have the parts they needed for a WEEK. As it was, I had been stranded in the desert at a hotel for two days. I then had to pay $1,100 to be towed back to LA and took it to a hybrid mechanic I trust and paid them to do the work. But this cost me THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS. In a month where a friend of mine died (which was the reason I was driving from city to city). To have to replace this on a car with only 50,000 miles is preposterous. To NOW find out there actually IS a recall on the 2015 Prius FOR the electrical system involving the inverter is so far beyond frustrating, I don't have the correct word for it.

On or around 9/13/25 my ABS, Brake, Traction and Emergency Sign sensors turned on in my 2015 Toyota Prius. I noticed that my brakes became squishy and when I drove, it took longer for my car to brake (there was more distance in my braking ability to stop the car). My car also felt a bit more airy than it usually does when I drive it. I took it to 2 independent car repair shops for a diagnostic and both told me that the ABS C1391 code came up. Soon thereafter, I took it to a local Toyota dealership for a diagnostic and was given the ABS C1391(code) Abnormal Leak in the accumulator. The Toyota mechanic informed me that that when he did the diagnostic, the TSB 0024-19 code came up on his end, which means that Toyota alerts their mechanics of the necessary procedures to implement for this problem, as it's a known Toyota problem and defect: 1) Remove & Replace the Brake Booster Assembly w/the Master Cylinder (apparently the master cylinder goes out too since they're connected) and 2) Remove and Replace the Brake Booster Assembly Pump. Toyota's estimate to repair it is $4,404.72; I can't afford this and need a car. It's my only car! I did research and learned that this is a known Toyota issue for Prius (2010-2015) and a Customer Support Program w/an extended warranty was issued to cover the full cost. Despite this, their extended warranty expired for me on 12/29/24, despite me meeting the other 10 yr or 150K or less mileage criteria. Despite filing a complaint with Toyota's Resolution Center they refused to extend or offer warranty or any payment for a KNOWN Toyota defect, saying my issue was "after the extended warranty date" and there "isn't a recall." I'm disgusted to say the least about this, as Toyota is well aware of this car part defect which is a safety hazard and liability for its customers. Something must be done about this. It's unfair and not equitable to have loyal Toyota customers absorb the cost of known safety hazard defects by Toyota and risk lives.

Brake Accumulator and Master cylinder has failed. All lights for the ABS, TSC, and VSC are iliuminated

Before, I was driving and occasionally the traction control light would flash when I put my foot down on the brakes but would go away when released. I didn't think much of it but then a few days later, I went to brake to stop the car and then the abs, traction control and brake system lights lit up on the dash and wouldn't go away. I pulled over safely and turned the car off and on again but it wouldn't go away. The brakes were also noticeably more firm compared to before as it was quite squishy but now it was solid and all regen braking went away and it appeared I had no more ABS which could lead to a collision. I immediately took it into the dealer to have it diagnosed. I did some reading and if I kept driving with this problem, eventually the brakes would fail and collapse completely and leave me unable to stop the vehicle. At the service center, they were able to read the code DTC C1246 and clearing the codes did not work. The part that was replaced was the brake booster and the brake master cylinder and the brake pedal stroke sensor. It appears that a warranty program exists for this issue but it is not a recall. I am also not sure if the part that was replaced is a revised part that will no longer have this issue or there is no change in the part design. I believe this is a massive safety issue and should be a recall and not a warranty replacement program as every prius should be recalled for this defect. I was very close to being out of warranty and if I had taken any longer to bring it into the dealer I would have been out of the extended CSP warranty. Even the dealer initially thought I would be out of warranty but I had to argue that I was in warranty and should be eligible for a warranty replacement and that I should not need to pay for a diagnostic fee despite it not being a recall.

Got the warning code for C1391 for the brake booster. It failed at 140k miles but because it failed past the 10 year mark did not qualify for the Toyota extended warranty program. I don't think the warranty program is good enough and should be addressed as a recall. I had sudden total brake failure on the highway which could have been extremely deadly.

The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the malfunction warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 186,000.

Our 2015 Prius suffers from the Brake booster/master cylinder defect as outlined in TSB T-SB-0024-19. Which is a well known an pervasive issue for this vehicle. We were unable to medically drive when the vehicle was still under the time frame and mileage which would have allowed it to be covered by Toyota. Despite requesting an extension due to extenuating circumstances (medically unable to drive, thus detect the issue during the covered period) they disclaim any and all remedy. When I was able to drive the vehicle after being cleared from surgical recovery restrictions, the issue was immediately found and reported to Toyota whom promptly denied the claim through their local dealership and subsequently through their offices after sending a letter requesting an exception or good will extension. This issue is a major safety issue and unfortunately also a cost prohibitive repair to take on. The defect in question is acknowledged by Toyota through MULTIPLE TSB's and warranty extensions and their own ZJB Customer support program. We are under the actual mileage cutoff but outside the time frame by a few months (medical period where the vehicle was not driven).

I have a 2015 Toyota Prius with 48,600 miles. My breaks started failing suddenly while driving which almost got me into a car accident. I took it to my mechanic immediately and the DTC was Code C1281. I was advised to take the car to A Toyota dealer. I got an appointment and a manager was waiting for me wanting to charge me $250 for a new diagnostic test and $2,500 - $3,000 for repair if the diagnosis was correct. I called customer service and washed their hands from any responsibility. I called the Toyota's customer advocate service located in Plano, TX and was on the phone for more than an hour. They apologize, were very courteous, but I was told that I was not covered because I had call too late and that the repair offered by Toyota had expired. They acknowledged that Toyota never issued a recall for this manufacturer defect. I informed them that the discovery of the problem had occurred on [XXX], 10 years and 2 month after I bought the car from them and that the car was almost new with very little mileage. I let them know that felt this was a deceptive trade practice with breach of warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability, along with it being a fraudulent concealment with failure to warn their customers of potential danger and harm. I plea with the Toyota's advocate that since the statute of limitation and equitable tolling had not elapsed from the day of discovery that they should honor my request for it being just. I was told that Toyota's decision on the Prius brake defect was not covered and that I was free to take my car to a Toyota dealer or an independent mechanic, whatever was more convenient and/or affordable and that the cost was on me. I asked if I were to get a new Toyota car and trade in my old car if they would appraise it as if the defective brake part had not malfunctioned. The answer was that the value of my car if traded in, would be significantly less due this issue. He gave me a Ref # [XXX] and hanged up. Code C1391 Leakage in Accumulator abnormal. This required replacement of the master cylinder, brake booster pump assembly. This fault resulted in mushy brake pedal and loss of abs system. The components were replaced at a Toyota dealership. Total cost was $3207.82. Apparently this was a known issue with Toyota for Prius models 2010 through 2015.

Failure of the: pump break booster actuator Had it towed to Toyota and they said it’s a $3,500 repair

The brake booster pump and ABS actuator is beginning to fail recently. I took it to the Toyota dealership to use Customer Support Program ZJB to replace the parts, but they said my vehicle was not covered. They then quoted me $3000 to fix the issue. The brake booster pump and ABS actuator contribute to safety while driving, so why is this not recalled? We need an official recall to happen and not a simple Customer Support Program.

Brake booster failed. ABS lights on. Brake light on. Traction control light on. Was sitting at stop with foot gently on brake when lights turned on. Attempted to restart car to clear lights, lights would not turn off after normal restart x3. Brake no longer function correctly, and the factory installed ABS are no longer functioning. Braking distance greatly increased, and no longer as safe to operate.

Failure of brake pump and brake cylinder assembly system, resulting in reduced braking ability and stiff brake pedal. Per Toyota's diagnostic: trouble code C1391 is present, abnormal leak in accumulator, replaced brake ABS actuator assembly, along with brake master cylinder, and bleed the brake hydraulic system. No warning lamps or safety indicators prior to failure. Upon failure (while on freeway going 50+ MPH) the ABS, Brake, and traction control warning lamps illuminated. The failure resulted in no accident or injury, however it did occur while on the freeway going freeway speeds, and resulted in difficulty in braking, which was dangerous. Took Prius into Toyota dealer for diagnostic and repair, was told that part was known to fail in this model of Prius, and had a manufacturer designated extended warranty for 10 years or 150,000 miles. However, despite prius being under 150,000 miles, it passed ten years since purchase in march 2025, meaning I had to pay in full for the repair ($3,631.96). The car gave no indication of needing the repair until the day of the failure, which was on June 18th 2025. If the vehicle had given some prior indication of brake pump system failure or fault I would have had it repaired prior to the warranty expiration, but it did not, leaving me to pay out of pocket for a failed part that Toyota is at fault for making prone to failure.

Brake booster failed while driving down the mountains back from big bear. Nearly wrecked several times, had no idea why my brakes weren't working properly. Go to AutoZone to scam the code, and I got the dreaded ABS failure. Sadly the extended warranty for this known issue from Toyota conveniently expired 2 weeks before the failure. Toyota should be held accountable and pay for my repair, that O did myself. Parts cost me $1800, plus a day off from work I had to take. Atrocious situation, Toyota should be ashamed.

While driving my 2015 Toyota Prius, the brake pedal became extremely stiff and hard to press. I was on the way to the dog park with my dog in the back seat when I had to press down very hard just to slow the car at a traffic light. It felt like I was stepping on a rock. The brakes barely engaged, and I had to use far more force than normal to get the car to stop in time. When I hit the brakes, they finally caught hard and suddenly and my dog went flying off the back seat and landed on the floor. She’s fine physically, but now she’s terrified of getting in the car at all. It was scary for both of us and felt totally unsafe. If I had been going just a little faster or if someone was walking across that intersection, it could’ve ended badly. I later found out this issue is tied to a known defect with the brake booster and accumulator system, specifically related to code C1391. Toyota even acknowledged this problem in a Customer Support Program (CSP ZJB/ZKK), but they refuse to help because my car is slightly over the mileage limit. That doesn’t change the fact that this is a serious, dangerous failure that affects the driver’s ability to stop safely. Toyota should be forced to take responsibility for this failure before someone gets seriously hurt.

Toyota Hybrid Brake Problems 2015 Toyota Prius I took to my dealership Jim Ellis Toyota in McDonough GA. I was told that my brake master cylinder & brake booster pumps vehicle has failed. I experienced my brakes locking up, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly lunge forward or failing to engage when the brake pedal is depressed. I took it there around 8 o’clock in the morning and then there was a very rude and disrespectful service person by the name of Victoria who told me that they would not be able to see me and told me that I needed to leave because I didn’t I have an appointment. This is a Dealership that I purchased this car phone in 2018 and I have been taking my car to Jim Ellis Toyota of McDonough since 2018 to get regular oil changes and other maintenance for my car. Such as things my brakes replace my front and the back brakes have my battery please and come several times out of the year to get a oil change because I have part of what they consider a lifetime oil change on my car. Also, I had a Warranty whole time that I have been taking my car to the dealership they never once brought to my attention that there was a known recall for the brakes booster. It wasn’t until I took my car to dealership on Friday 5/30/25 that I was advised that this was a known issue for 2010-2015 Toyota Prius Jim Ellis dealership knew about the problem and failed to make repairs when I spoke with general manager Lorenzo Smith he advised that past the recall timeframe and my warranty has expired. Jim Ellis dealership knew their were known issues and hid the issue I refuse to write the wrong by making the repairs to my vehicle. They’re trying to charge me over $3200 in repairs when I spoke with the general manager, he advised me that they didn’t make the repairs because my vehicle vin number. I own a 2015 Toyota prius, purchased new and put in service December 4th, 2014. Car is well maintained. On May 10th, 2025 The Brake booster pump and assembly failed. Has internal leak. I had the dealer confirm this. Lights on the dash, computer code c1391 ( abnormal leak in accumulator, Rec replacement of brake booster and pump) and brake booster pump is pumping every 3 seconds from internal leak. Brakes are now at 50%. Soft. The Pads and shoes are perfectly fine. It’s the brake booster pump assembly. Toyota issued instead of a recall, which would have been the right thing to due considering its long history of these over multiple years failing, just a customer service letter. 10 years or 150,000 miles, which ever comes first. Mine failed at 10 1/2 years. Now I am stuck with a $3,000 bill which I can not afford, to replace the Brake booster pump and assembly. Toyota completely knows of the issue and side stepped having to issue a recall on this very well know problem.

Left our house and as we were driving out of our neighborhood the ABS and Brake lights came on. We looked it up in our book and couldn't find anything concrete to go on. Drove straight to Auto Zone and their test came back most likely Brake booster or master cylinder. While looking it up, we read several stories people had posted saying this was a defect with 2012 - 2015 Toyota Prius' and to write to you and tell of the incident. Car feels like it lunges forward while braking over bumps. I have learned this is a known manufacture defect with the Brake Booster and Brake Actuator which Toyota is refusing to replace outside of 10 years from manufacture date. This is a critical safety item and failure can result in loss of brake power. Most owners do not know this part even exists until failure has happened already.

Bad break booster and was told I can’t get it repaired under the replacement program because it has to many miles! However I purchased my 2015 Prius used that had over 100 K already never received no notice from manufacturer or the dealer I bought the car from this is not fair and if Toyota is putting in faulty brake boosters, they should be replaced for free regardless of the mileage because I didn’t break the booster It’s the brake booster that was originally installed by the manufacturer! Someone needs to do something, especially if it’s not the car owner‘s fault It’s the manufacturer fault for installing faulty parts! The ABS and traction light appeared on the dash while driving on the freeway. I attempted to brake, while merging to exit but the car brake system did not respond. Luckily there were no cars close to us. Figured it could be a brake fluid problem so I added more fluid and it went away for a bit. It’s come back again and my car feels unsafe to drive. The brake pedal feels stiff or sometimes mushy like dough. I am waiting to get a diagnosis on my car but from what I’ve read and what other prius owners are reporting, it appears to be the “break actuator and break booster pump” that is failing to work properly. Wondering if any other Prius owners have filed a complaint.

I was driving down the road when I noticed my brakes were not working. I had to push a lot harder on the pedal to slow the car down luckily, I did not crash into the car in front of me. I pulled over to see numerous lights on the dash such as traction, abs, and brakes. I had the car towed to Toyota where they quoted me almost $3000 to fix the brake accumulator and booster assembly. They said my car is outside the extended warranty of this problem. My car is a 2015 Prius with 154k miles. I found online that these things fail commonly on this generation of Prius. It's horrible for this company to charge us basically the cost of the car to fix the brakes.

"ABS ACTUATOR AND BRAKE PUMP - Remove & Replace - Hydraulic Booster Assembly" -High Voltage Auto LLC Bakersfield, CA Actually scared for my life when driving now. Brakes are now limp, constant sound of actuator cycling, code is C1391 Problem is reproduced by dealer and independent service. Yes parts were inspect by manufacture. There are multiple warning lamps, actuator cycling is constant piror to lamps finally indicating issue.

Brake Booster and Master Cylinder failed. Traction Control and ABS lights came on while driving. Upon inspection there is an issue with the brake booster and master cylinder. This is an issue that Toyota is aware of and were repairing under a customer service campaign. They are aware that these parts malfunction and instead of recalling them, they set expiration dates for free replacement. The car must be experiencing an issue and throw the correct code within the campaign window to be eligible for complimentary repair. The brakes failing in this way could cause great harm to me as a driver and others on the road making it imperative that I pay thousands in repair cause to ensure everyone's safety, though that is toyota's job.

The headlight bulbs keep going out. I have replaced the bulbs at least 2-3 times a year for the past few years. I have asked dealers about this and they tell me there is no recall or tsb. This is a hazard to night driving because of decreased illumination, especially in dark roads with not enough lighting. Please recall/fix this issue!!

Brake Booster failed on 2/11/2025 Its a known safety issue with Prius 2015 models. I took car to Toyota for repair. They told me it needs to be replaced but out of warranty as this cr was produced in Oct 2014 This is a major safety item. I took it in for 100000 miles check and it was not replaced then and now they are saying it is too late.

My small battery died and it is located on passenger side, inside, underneath tail light. There us no key entry. One must crawl to back if car and dismantle many pieces to access release. I had heavy 5 gallon jugs of water in back. There is no trunk release and no key entry. The only way to jump car is at fuse box under hood. Car needs a button inside, ideally up front.

On the morning of December 11th, 2024, the brake system warning light (ABS, yellow) illuminated on the dashboard along with the red BRAKE indicator and the yellow Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system light. I consulted a mechanic who performed a computer diagnostic and informed me that the ABS module booster had failed. He said that will order the part to change it but meanwhile he advised me to drive more cautiously and maintain a greater distance from the vehicle ahead, allowing extra space for my car to stop due to the increased braking distance caused by the failed ABS module booster. Later that day, at approximately 5:30 PM, I was driving home in heavy traffic, with speeds not exceeding 40 miles per hour. The vehicle in front of me began to decelerate abruptly. When I applied firm pressure to the brake pedal to slow down my car, it lost all control. The vehicle began to skid, with the amplitude of the skid increasing progressively. It struck the highway guardrail on the left, changed trajectory, crossed all four lanes to the right uncontrollably, and ultimately collided with the highway guardrail on the right side.

There is a known brake booster issue with the Toyota Prius. They extended the coverage to 150,000 miles. My car is at 127,000 miles and they said the repair isn't under warranty and will cost over $3,000 to fix. There was no pre-warning lights or information received about this repair notice. I only noticed this when the lights came on and our ABS lights went out. When I took it in they said I missed the deadline by 5 days, that I would have had to let them know by 11/20/2024. Which is insane for such a huge issue when I am well under the mileage coverage.

The clear coat on the roof of my 2015 Prius began to peel little by little starting around 2021. What started out as small patches has now become large patches on various parts of the roof. The clearcoat is also beginning to peel right below the windows on the passenger side, close to where the door panel and the window meet. It's unsightly and I have not had this happen to any of my other vehicles in the past. I've done nothing different in the handling/washing/parking of the vehicle compared to my previous cars.

As many others have reported, the Brake Accumulator has failed. The symptoms began at 100,000 miles. When reported to the dealership, was brushed off as not a safety concern. It is, indeed, a major safety concern. My partner had the ABS lights come on and brakes freeze up while driving on a fast and congested highway. Furthermore, getting this repaired is nearly impossible. The only Toyota dealership in town is estimated a $5k price. And since independent shops often cannot perform this repair, there is no comparison possible. They simply push to buy a new vehicle instead of standing by one that should be operating normally. The dealership is Miracle Toyota of North Augusta SC. Consistently does not support the consumers concerns and simply pushes repurchase as the only reasonable avenue. This is a known issue for Toyota that has stranded many of us without the ability to keep this car on the road. Please resolve with reasonable repair options due to faulty design.

My vehicle has an ongoing issue with the headlights not being bright enough to drive at night with. I have replaced the headlights more than 5 times now over the course of a year, each time with different brands including Toyota OEM headlights. Each time, they are still not sufficiently bright enough to see with at night. This has led to 3 collisions with curbs and objects which caused damage to my vehicle, because I could not see the objects while having to drive at night. I have brought the issue up to Toyota and they said they would not do anything about it. I brought it in for service to Toyota and they tried to charge me $200 to even look at it, money which I do not have. I am forced to continue driving at night for work and fear I will get into a more serious crash or hit a pedestrian as the headlights aren't bright enough to see safely at night. The photo I have included shows a gash in the tire and dent in the rim where it hit the curb. The issue seems to be the headlight wiring or connectors. When I replace the headlight bulbs, they are a bit brighter initially. Thus initial brightness only lasts about a week, and it's still not sufficiently bright to drive safely. They then dim even further to the point where it's like driving without headlights at all. Again this has led to 3 collisions at this point since I'm required to drive at night and don't have the money to fix it. Toyota refused a good faith repair and did not acknowledge there was an issue, however if you do a web search for "Prius headlights too dim" it seems to be a major issue with many other Prius owners. It should be noted that even the high beam headlights are not bright enough to sufficiently see with at night.

Airbags didn’t deploy in a front end collision that totaled the car. The driver hit their forehead on the steering wheel. Driver had bruising from the seatbelt. There were no warning lights or indications of any issues.

Driving making slight turn car locked up steering wheel, brakes and gas all locked up ran in to a wall. The vehicle just failed with no prior warning.

My brake booster is failing and has been confirmed with Certified Toyota Master Mechanics at Toyota Dealerships that it is failing. Toyota has a CSP Called ZJB to replace these once the brake booster fails. My car has been identified as one of the cars with a faulty brake booster and I’m terrified to continue to drive it as it has to throw a code and break before they will change the faulty part. I want them to fix it before it fails and someone gets hurt. What do I do? There are a lot of other complaints about this but Toyota is not fixing them until they break. This is a huge safety issue.

When I parked my car and stopped the engine after driving for 90 min/62 miles on June 22, 2023, I found that I couldn't lock my car's door, through my remote, door handle or the switch inside the door. Upon further examination, I saw complete loss of the power: no light, no audio, no other accessory power, no start of engine. Foot press on the brake feels heavy/less responsive. One hr after the incident I went back (because I had some business to attend) to the car, everything looked normal (with full functions recovered) as if nothing happened before. 6 hrs later the car still behaved fine. I measured 12-v battery and it registered 12.3 v (I bought the car new 8 years ago and I haven't changed the battery yet). I noticed that my the clock in the car lost 10 mins (behind correct time) and I concluded the complete loss of battery power lasted about 10 mins. By the time of this report, I have started the engine 5 times without any problem but this loss of power gravely concerns me. I saw recalls for similar problems affecting similar prius models/years however my car is not on the list.

1. Brake accumulator pump is running too often, indicating that there is a pressure leak in the braking system. 2. As designed the pump will run only on occasion to charge the booster fully. This pump runs a lot, whether the car is running, or not, whether the brakes are applied, or not, and regardless of braking rigorously or gently. 3. Occasionally, on start up, brake pedal goes to the floor as the accumulator has lost all charge. 3. No brake warning lights on dash, yet. 4. No service codes known, yet. Toyota had a customer support program to address this issue, extending warranty to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I am at 160,000, 8 years. The problem has been occurring for a while, but I was not aware as it was my wife's car and driven solely by her. I was told today by a Toyota resolution specialist that no help would be forthcoming, and to hope that NHTSA issues a recall wherein my problem with the braking system would then be addressed. This seems problematic for many reasons, not the least of which is that it is regarding BRAKES, an integral part of the safety equipment to ensure our highways are without danger or have no known issues that have not been resolved by a car manufacturer. My Toyota case number is 230426001055. This 'complaint' is to alert this agency that there is a problem with my vehicle, and others, known by Toyota, as evidenced by past Customer Support Program, and as substantiated today by service rep at Family Toyota of Burleson, and there is no recompense available for the $3,000.00 repair required to ensure my vehicle safely travels our nations highways. While I understand that a car cannot be warrantied indefinitely, an eight year old car that has been meticulously maintained with a serious safety time bomb should not fall upon the owner entirely, nor should it be the responsibility of your agency to force the hand of the automaker. Since that is there stance, I appeal to you to respond seriously and help me try to remedy.

I bought this car brand new and have had it serviced regularly at a Greensboro Nc Toyota dealership. It has 127,000 miles on it. I starting hearing a grinding whirring noice a lot lately and determined it is a brake actuator/brake booster. Took it to the dealership and they confirmed it to be a brake booster going bad. Engages at least 4 times a minute. There is a customer support program for this repair from Toyota ZJB and covers the part up to 10 years or 150,000 miles. I am in the covered period but it has to break first before they will cover it even though they confirmed it is going bad. It has to “throw a code” before Toyota will pay. I reached out toToyota and they reached out to the dealership which is Greensboro Toyota in Greensboro, NC and their regional office won’t fix it because it would come out of their pocket and Toyota won’t fix until it breaks. My research confirms this could be a bad safety issue driving around waiting for this to break. There are no codes yet but the dealership has heard it and confirmed it’s going bad and I have video of the part going bad. I always service everything with my car or home when it needs to be done and to be told to drive around until it breaks is negligent. Apparently it is a 2-3k fix. The dealer confirmed today that they would fix the problem at $2700. The lights for traction and abs went off with a warning sound. Pulled over both times and called aaa for tow…..each a separate incident.

Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 25-45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V369000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 29,407.

The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that as he approached a stop light at 25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard as he attempted to stop the vehicle. The brakes failed to operate without warning as he hit the vehicle in front of him. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. A police report was filed and both the contact and the other driver were able to drive away from the scene. No injuries were reported. Prior to this failure, the contact stated that the same failure occurred months prior while traveling at 20 MPH in the rain. The contact stated that the brakes failed to operate without warning as he depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard; he hit an unknown object on the road due to the failure. The contact initially thought that the failure was related to slippery roadways; however, after the most recent failure, he related the prior incident with his most recent failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be serviced or diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

My mom was involved in an accident in her 2015 Toyota Prius on April 19, 2022, which she advised lurched forward at a stop and when applying the brakes to stop the vehicle, she said was unresponsive, causing her to clip a vehicle and sending her vehicle into a ditch totaling her car and injuring her passenger and her. I would like to have this investigated and hold Toyota responsible. This could have been much worse and lives could have been lost. She is now without means of transportation, and she is now possibly responsible for damages to property and bodily injury because of this. Through my research I have discovered multiple class action lawsuits brought against Toyota for the same exact models. I asked the police officer to run a scan on the computer, but he advised it was only for serious accidents. There was no indication of the problem or messages.

My 2015 prius gen 3 has a 118,000 miles since we bought it brand new in 2015. We periodically have it maintained with our own mechanic even after the warranty expired with the dealer. However, we experienced that the lights of Brake system, ABS and VSC went out the same time. We have it checked but there was no error code. the car is operational but the brake system does not engaged fully when you presses the brake pedal. The vehicle does not stop immediately if you need to immediately stop the vehicle. The problem strongly indicates failure in ABS control modules which can costs us a big amount of money ranging from $3,500 minimum up to $6000 max. Majority of the prius owners that shared their experiences to us regarding the same problems are unanimous in their opinion that it is indeed the brake control module. That such defect can only be pointed to the manufacturers' misdeeds.

I bought this vehicle on July 3, 2015. When I took it in for an oil change in Dec. 2015, I was informed that there was a mice infestation and that the electrical wires and other systems were damaged, resulting in about $2,800 in repairs due to the mice chewing the wiring. I just took this vehicle back in on 29 Nov. 2021 because some of the systems weren't working properly, and they confirmed that a mouse has again chewed up the electrical system, again costing about $5,000 in repairs. I've just been informed by my exterminator that Toyota uses a wiring harness coated with a soybean based coating which is causing reports of mice damage in a lot of Toyota vehicles. We have 2 other vehicles which are not Toyota vehicles and have never had a single problem with mice chewing the wiring harnesses of those vehicles, although all are parked in the same area. The vehicle is currently pending repairs at Fred Haas Toyota Country in Houston, TX and will be there for at least a couple of weeks pending availability of parts. Electrical issues of this type can cause serious failure of safety features. Toyota has never told me that they use soy based elements in their vehicles that would entice rodents to chew the wiring or otherwise entice them into the vehicle. I do not have a report from insurance yet, but I have filed a claim.

Window buttons on drivers side master power window switch failed. Felt warm on door. There have been recalls of other models of Toyota cars including Prius C.

As stated from 5 months after we bought it, and the first prius, the car won't start. No matter if parked flat, keys in or out over night, or the temp, when the break is pushed it is squishy and makes draining noise and won't start. As a dr on call i have LOST patients because I could not leave my house. i carry and use the charger daily ever since. Taken in lots. they say, "you don't drive enough..or some other bogus excuse, like don't leave keys in car, which is how priuses start and run!. the car is driven in all ways a lot. also we buy headlights and headlamps on both about every 2 months. also it looses power and has shut off while driving. the worst is when it would start on its own in the locked garage. at that point my wife just quit driving all together. nothing but nightmares. She almsot crashed on fw when power went out.

On August 10, 2021 my 2015 Prius was parked in a Strip Mall parking lot. When I turned on the Prius and shifted into reverse, after traveling only a foot or so, the shift selector popped into Neutral. When I shifted into Drive, it happened again. After several tries with the same results, I called Findlay Toyota Service. I was advised to have the car towed, at my expense, to Findlay Toyota Service. Note: the tow truck driver reported to me and the Findlay Service Representative that he could keep the shift selector in gear by holding it in place with his hand while driving it to the tow truck. The Prius was left at Findlay Toyota for 2 days. The Service Rep reported that 3 different mechanics plus himself could not duplicate the problem; the Prius stayed in gear for them. I researched online and found other Prius owners reported this problem ocurring intermittantly. The only solution seems to be replacing the Shift Selector Switch at a cost of $838.35 + tax. Even though this is clearly a safety hazard, there is no recall.

While attempting to accelerate from a stop light, the Prius stalled. It would not accelerate although the engine revved. I restarted the car by powering completely off and back on. I tried to accelerate again multiple times until it slowly came up to speed the third attempt. The car was in drive and has never happened before. This is a safety concern for multiple reasons but the main being it can cause harm to those in the vehicle as well as other drivers on the road when the car stalls unexpectedly. There were no warning signals on the dash. Toyota dealer looked at it right away, ran diagnostics, and could not find an issue. Nothing was “fixed” or updated.

Additionally, the Hybrid System failure message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the inverter to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending the repair. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

The contact stated that while driving at 15 MPH, the vehicle began to die as the "check hybrid system, stop the vehicle in a safe place" warning message illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact was able to barely pull off to the side and called the police for assistance. The police were able to move the vehicle to the side of the road and a tow truck was called for assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was initially towed to a gas station but the contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer. While there, she discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V369000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM), which she linked to her failure; however, her VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 45,000

During routine low speed suburban driving, a fire started under the hood in the right front of the car. The smoke was first noticed by a pedestrian so I pulled over, got out of the car, and called 911. I had no prior warning of any sort. The fire completely destroyed the car. This is being investigated by Toyota. I have photos and would be happy to provide more details.

When I looked up my car on Kelly Blue Book for pricing, it said that it has been recalled as of 2020. I was not aware of this at all and could have got into a serious accident. I recently purchased a 2015 Toyota Prius Hybrid in February and not even my saleswoman told me that it has been recalled. It has a sleuth of issues that came with it.

IT SAYS THIS IS NOT A RECALL, BUT RATHER AN ADVISEMENT OF A VOLUNTARY CUSTOMER PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN INITIATED FOR MY VEHICLE. IT SAYS THAT IF I HAVE THE INCLUDED SYMPTOMS, TO BRING IT IN FOR EVALUATION, AND A REPAIR WILL BE ATTEMPTED, BUT IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE IPM, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE INVESTIGATION. THIS SOUNDS MOST UNFAIR. I DO NOT HAVE THE SKILLS TO MAKE THE NECESSARY DETERMINATION. I CALLED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE SOMEONE CALL ME BACK, BUT NO ONE HAS CALLED!

ANYTIME I CHANGE ELEVATIONS THE ENGINE SEEMS TO REV WHEN IT IS IDLING ON CRUISE CONTROL. ON THE DOWNHILL, THE CAR WILL ACCELLERATE TO IGNORE THE SPEED ON CRUISECONTROL TO DANGEROUS HIGH VELOCITY. I REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA OF NORTH HOLLYWOOD THREE TIMES... IT WAS NEVER ADDRESSED.

BRAKES FAILED TO SLOW OR STOP VEHICLE AT ?20 MPH; DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ACTIVE THAT MORNING. CRASH INTO TELEPHONE PHONE RESULTED IN "TOTALED" CAR. COULD NOT GET IT TO TURN BACK ON SO I PUSHED IT OFF THE HIGHWAY. ERROR MESSAGE ON DASH MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT AN ERROR WITH THE HYBRID SYSTEM.

105K MILAGE. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 45MPH AND CAR SUDDENLY JERK AND SLOWED TO ABOUT 10/15MPH. LOST ELECTRIC POWER, ABLE TO ONLY CONTINUE DRIVING ON GAS 10/15MPH. TOYOTA HAD TO REPLACE THE FOLLOWING WHICH THEY INDICATE WAS NOT UNDER WARRENTLY WHICH COST $2642. TRANSISTER KIT, POWE PLUE KIT, INVERTER D GREASE SUPER LONG LIFE COOL GASKET

I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CAR'S HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS A CAME ON , AND THE CAR SLOWED TO A CRAWL. LUCKILY I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CAR COMPETELY SHUT DOWN. I'VE HAD IT TOWED TO TWO TOYOTA DEARLSHIPS, (THE SAME ONE TWICE),WHERE I WAS TOLD A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT THINGS. FIRST, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS WATER IN THE GAS TANK. THERE WAS NO WAY THAT WAS TRUE, SINCE I HAD ALREADY DRIVEN 3/4'S OF A TANK OF GAS, AND I ALWAYS FILL MY TANK UP. I REFUSED TO HAVE A NEW FUEL SYSTEM PUT IN TO THE TUNE OF $2500. I HAD IT TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, AND WHERE HE GOT 5 GALLONS OF WATER OUT OF THE TANK. I ONLY HAD ABOUT 3 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE CAR TO BEGIN WITH, AND I KNOW I DIDN'T PUT WATER IN THE TANK.THE HYBRID SYSTEM SEALS HAD NEVER BEEN BROKEN, SO THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THAT OUT, EVEN THOUGH THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON REGARDING THE HYBRID SYSTEM. VERY FISHY...THE NEXT DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE WAS WATER IT AND IT NEEDED TO BE DRAINED AND FUEL REPLACED, EVEN THOUGHT THAT HAD JUST BEEN DONE. THEY SENT ME A PHOTO OF A COKE BOTTLE WITH ABOUT 1/4 CUP OF FUEL WATER MIX. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP DRAINED THE FUEL SYSTEM.THE CAR'S BATTERIES WERE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SINCE IT WAS UNDER 100,000 MILES. WE SENT IT BACK TO THE FIRST DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY NOW SAID IT WAS A FAILED ENGINE WHICH WOULD COST $10,000 TO REPLACE. (MORE THAT THE WORTH OF THE CAR). THIS NIGHTMARE HAS LASTED OVER 8 MONTHS! IT BEGAN IN SEPT.2019. COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA CORPORATE TO NO SATISFACTION. BOTTOM LINE, TOYOTA DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR, AND WOULD NOT FIX IT UNLESS WE PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2025 AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURE ISSUES EVERY TIME I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE OVER EITHER A POTHOLE, A SLICK SURFACE LIKE A METAL SHEET AT ROAD CONSTRUCTION OR WET ROADS THE BRAKE WOULD FAIL. ALL THE RED WARNING SIGNS WOULD COME ON IN THE DASHBOARD AND THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE THAT LOUD HORRIBLE NOISE. I LOVE MY PRIUS, I DON'T WANT TO GET RID OF IT. I WAS HOPING TOYOTA MOTORS WOULD HAVE A FIXED FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM BY NOW AS THIS IS VERY UNSAFE SPECIALLY INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS. THE PRIUS WAS STATIONARY, PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY OF OUR HOUSE. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WASHING THE WINDSHIELD AND WINDOWS ON THE INSIDE AND ACCIDENTALLY BUMPED THE GEARBOX (SHIFTER). LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND THE CAR. I BELIEVE THAT THE PRIUS CAN BE ACCIDENTALLY PLACED IN NEUTRAL IF ELECTRICAL IS ON IN THE CAR (IE RADIO) AND SOMEONE HAS THEIR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND HITS THE GEARBOX BY ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO SAFETY ON THE SHIFTER TO PREVENT UNINTENTIONAL SHIFTING. MANY OTHER CARS REQUIRE A MANUAL BUTTON ON THE SHIFTER TO BE DEPRESSED PRIOR TO SHIFTING. THIS IS NOT THE CASE ON THE PRIUS. WITHOUT THAT SAFETY FEATURE, ACCIDENTS LIKE THIS ONE CAN HAPPEN AND POTENTIALLY KILL SOMEONE. THE CAR CAN BE MADE TO BE IN NEUTRAL BY ACCIDENT RATHER EASILY.

THE BRAKES ON MY 2015 PRIUS TOTALLY FAILED AND I HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. I ASKED HIM TO FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER SERVICE TECHNICIANS INSPECTED THE BRAKES THAT DAY, I WAS TOLD THE BRAKES APPEARED TO BE FINE AND, BARRING A RECALL, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHE BELIEVES THAT THE .DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT AND HEAD REST FRACTURED AS HER HUSBAND WAS FOUND LAYING UNCONSCIOUS IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT FACE DOWN. IT RACED ACROSS THE STREET AND PLOWED DIRECTLY INTO A NEIGHBOR'S STONE WALL. MY CAR BECAME WEDGED BETWEEN THE WALL AND A LARGE TREE. I HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AS THE DRIVER'S DOOR WAS PRESSED AGAINST THE TREE. AFTER THE COLLISION, INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE NON-FUNCTIONING EVEN WHEN THE DOOR WAS PROPPED OPEN. THE CAR WOULD HAVE CRASHED THROUGH THE HOUSE IF IT HAD NOT BEEN STOPPED BY THE WALL AND TREE.

TOYOTA SENT ME A LETTER STATING THE BRAKE BOOSTER MAY CAUSE ISSUES WITH MY CAR AND ALL MY LIGHTS CAME ON FOR THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA TOLD ME TO TAKE CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR UNDER NEW WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR BRAKE BOOSTER ISSUES. DEALER IS NOW TELLING ME IT'S NOT COVERED SO I NEED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. I ASKED WHAT I'M PAYING FOR AND THEY STATED NEW BRAKE BOOSTER. WHAT'S GOING ON HERE??

VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY AND HAD LOSS OF POWER ON HIGHWAY AT SPEED OF 65MPH GOING STRAIGHT. TOYOTA EVALUATED AND DETERMINED THE INVERTER WAS BURNT DUE TO OVERHEATING CAUSING HYBRID SYSTEM TO FAIL. TOYOTA STATED WAS NOT COVERED BY VIN FOR EXISTING RECALL.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE NOT INJURED SINCE THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED. I NOTED THAT THERE WERE MANY SIMILAR REPORTS. SURPRISED THIS WAS NOT A RECALL ACTION.

AT 41,000 THE VEHICLE PER A GOODYEAR DEALER ADVISED THAT MY FRONT BRAKES WERE METAL ON METAL. THE CALIBER WAS ALSO FROZEN AND THE BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING. THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 3/7/19 WITH NO MENTION OF A NEED FOR REPAIRS TO THE FRONT BRAKES. IS THERE A GENERAL PROBLEM WITH BAD BRAKES ON TOYOTA VEHICLES?

WHILE DRIVING, LEFT SIDE OF INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT DARK. NO SPEED INDICATION AND CRUISE CONTROL TRIPPED OFF. STARTED CAR NEXT DAY AND INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS NORMAL. WHILE SITTING IN DRIVEWAY WITH ENGINE RUNNING, ENGINE STOPPED AS NORMAL FOR THE HYBRID PRIUS, WHEN THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, THE LEFT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AGAIN WENT DARK. DIMMER SWITCH AT FULL BRIGHT AND NOTHING BLOCKING MIRROR FOR COMBINATION PANEL (INSTRUMENT CLUSTER).

THERE WERE NO VEHICLES DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME WITHIN 100 FEET. THE VEHICLE DID NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT THIS SUDDEN ACTION COULD HAVE CAUSED A COLLISION.

I WAS DRIVING ON I-10 W ABOUT 10 MILES OUTSIDE OF NEW ORLEANS WHEN MY CLOSED, LOCKED SUNROOF EXPLODED UPWARDS, SHATTERING COMPLETELY THE CENTER SUNROOF PANEL AND SHOWERING ME WITH GLASS. AUTO ADJUSTING LOW BEAMS NOT WORKING. LOW BEAM IS FIXED DOWN AS IF THERE WAS A HEAVY WEIGHT LOAD, WITH NO LOAD IN THE AUTO THE LOW BEAM LIGHT PATERN IS ONLY 25 FEET, THIS DISTANCE PUTS THE DRIVER AT RISK BEING UNABLE CLEARLY SEE THE ROAD AND DRIVE AT A REDUCE SPEED OR OVER DRIVING THE LIGHT. DRIVER EYES ARE STRAINED AS THEY TRY TO NAVIGATE. THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE HIGH BEAMS. AFFECTS ONLY AT NIGHT ON HIGHWAYS AND. POORLY LIGHT WIEDY COUNTRY ROADS.

I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR IN THE LEFT LANE. I WANTED TO CHANGE TO THE RIGHT LANE, PUT ON MY TURN SIGNAL, CHECKED BOTH MIRRORS, AND STARTED TO PULL OVER WHEN A HORN BLEW, I DID NOT SEE A CAR IN THE RIGHT LANE AS THE PRIUS HAS A TERRIBLE BLIND SPOT. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES. NOT GOOD I MISSED HITTING THE VEHICLE BE MERE INCHES.

I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CAR WHILE IT WAS PARALLEL PARKED. I PRESSED THE PUSH TO START BUTTON TO TURN ON THE BATTERY SO I COULD CHARGE MY PHONE. THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE DRIVER SEAT. WHEN THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK I ALSO STARTED PRESSING BOTH THE PARK AND PUSH TO START BUTTONS TO TURN IT OFF AGAIN. I'VE NEVER FELT SO UNSAFE IN A VEHICLE AND GOES TO CONFIRM THAT PARK AND PUSH TO START SHOULD NOT BE BUTTONS!!! IT MAKES THE VEHICLE MUCH MORE DANGEROUS NOT BEING ABLE TO OVERRIDE THOSE COMMANDS WHEN IT CHOOSES TO GO ON ITS OWN.

WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT, THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR TO TURN INTO A PARKING LANE. HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF BRAKING THE CAR ACCELERATED. RANDOM ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTED HAPPENING. BLUETOOTH WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO ANSWER INCOMING PHONE. I COULD NOT CALL OUT. UNABLE TO CHANGE RADIO STATION, TURN ON/OFF RADIO. UNABLE TO TURN ON CD, OR EJECT DISK. THEN RADIO WILL START WORKING AND AM ABLE TO USE BLUETOOTH IF I DIAL FROM MY CELL PHONE. ALL WITHIN A WEEK. LAST NIGHT ,I DROVE IN SILENCE. NO RADIO, CD, BLUETOOTH. HAVE MAINTENANCE APPT. TUES., AND STATED PROBLEMS W/ ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DIDN'T MATTER IF CAR WAS MOVING OR STOPPED.

WHEN PARKING, PARK IN FLAT PLACE AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE SECURELY" A BUZZER WAS SOUNDING. THIS INDICATES A SHIFT CONTROL SYSTEM ERROR. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. NOTIFIED DEALER AND THE CAR WAS TOWED. NO ERROR CODES WERE FOUND. THE CAR STARTED FOR THE DEALER.

WHENEVER THE HANDLE IS RELEASED, IT SPRINGS BACK TO THE CENTRAL POSITION, WHETHER THE TRANSMISSION IS IN GEAR OR NOT, SO THE DRIVER DOES NOT KNOW IF THE TRANSMISSIONS IS ACTUALLY IN GEAR OR NOT--OR IF IN GEAR, WHICH GEAR. THE DRIVER IS EXPECTED TO LOOK AT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SO SEE WHAT GEAR IS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE DISPLAY. I RENTED A PRIUS FOR A WEEK AND NUMEROUS TIMES, I THOUGHT I HAD SHIFTED INTO DRIVE (OR REVERSE), BUT WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENED BECAUSE IT HAD NOT GONE INTO THE SELECTED GEAR, AND I DID NOT KNOW THAT BECAUSE THE SHIFT LEVER ALWAYS SPRINGS BACK TO CENTER POSITION, WHETHER THE TRANSMISSION IS IN GEAR OR NOT. ONE TIME, AT NIGHT, I WAS MAKING A THREE-POINT U-TURN, SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, TURNED THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT, STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, AND SUDDENLY THE CAR WAS TURNING TO THE RIGHT! PANIC'SLAM ON THE BRAKES. THEN I REALIZED THE TRANSMISSION HAD NOT SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND I WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS. IF THE DRIVER FEELS THE SHIFT LEVER GO INTO A GEAR, THE CAR SHOULD BE IN THAT GEAR; IF IT DOES NOT GO INTO THAT GEAR, THEN THE SHIFT LEVER SHOULD NOT MOVE INTO THE POSITION; AND ONCE IN GEAR, THE SHIFT LEVER SHOULD STAY IN POSITION, NOT SPRING BACK TO CENTER.

THE DRIVER CANNOT SEE ANY PART OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IN MOST CARS, THE DRIVER CAN SEE ENOUGH OF THE HOOD AND FRONT FENDERS TO JUDGE HOW CLOSE THE CAR IS OTHER OBJECTS (CARS, WALLS, PEDESTRIANS, ETC.), BUT IN THE PRIUS, EVEN THOUGH I AM OVER 6 FEET TALL, I CANNOT SEE ANY PART OF THE HOOD OR FRONT FENDERS. WITH THAT LACK OF PERSPECTIVE, I SCRAPED THE LEFT FENDER AGAINST A PARKING LOT WALL. BUT THAT SAME LACK OF PERSPECTIVE COULD RESULT IN HITTING A PEDESTRIAN.

I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES SOMETIMES DO NOT APPEAR TO WORK PROPERLY, AND ONCE I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE POOR BRAKING PERFORMANCE. ONCE I QUICKLY TRANSITIONED FROM THROTTLE TO FULL BRAKING AND THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM LIKE IT WAS APPLYING FULL BRAKING. IT DIDN'T SEEM TO DECELERATE LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE. I REAR ENDED A VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE BRAKING PERFORMANCE. ANOTHER TIME I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES COMING OFF AN INTERSTATE AND THE BRAKES ALSO DIDN'T SEEM POWERFUL ENOUGH. IT'S AS IF THE BRAKES DON'T FULLY "CATCH" UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. BOTH TIMES WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE DRY.

WITHIN A 6 DAY PERIOD, THE MAIN 12 VOLT BATTERY DIED AND THE CAR WHICH WAS ONLY 3 WEEKS OLD WOULD NOT START. ALSO THE CABLE USED TO CHARGE THE HYBRID BATTERY TRIPS THE CIRCUIT BREAKER IN MY HOUSE EACH TIME EVEN THOUGH IT IS A GROUND FAULT OUTLET AND A 20 AMP BREAKER. I HAD TO CALL OUT A TOW TRUCK TO JUMPSTART THE BATTERY BOTH TIMES. CAR WAS PARKED AND DIRECTIONS WERE FOLLOWED EXACTLY FOR CHARGING IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE A DEDICATED LINE TO CHARGE THE CAR, EVEN THOUGH I WASN'T TOLD THIS BY THE SALESMAN. THE ELECTRIC SERVICE IN MY GARAGE IN BRAND NEW. THIS IS RIDICULOUS TO GO TO THIS EXPENSE AND NOT BE TOLD IN ADVANCE, AND TO HAVE A NEW BATTERY NEED CHARGING. IT HAD TO BE CHARGED BEFORE I COULD EVEN TEST DRIVE THE CAR BUT THAT DID NOT MATTER. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT GET A NEW BATTERY AS IT TESTED "GOOD".

THE NAVIGATION AND AUDIO SCREENS ARE MOSTLY UNREADABLE IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. IN ORDER TO ATTEMPT TO SEE THE SCREENS IN THESE CONDITIONS SOME OPERATORS MAY BE DISTRACTED FROM THE ROADWAY IN ORDER TO READ THE SCREEN INFORMATION. THESE DISTRACTIONS MAY INCLUDE MOVING HEADS AWAY FROM THE WHEEL AREA IN ORDER TO GET A BETTER VIEW OF THE SCREEN OR ATTEMPTING TO HOLD OBJECTS ABOVE THE SCREEN IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE GLARE FROM THE SUNLIGHT. COMPLAINANT HAS OWNED PREVIOUS MODELS OF TOYOTA PRIUS WHICH DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

I WAS INCHING INTO A GROCERY STORE PARKING SPOT IN MY NEW, PERFECTLY MAINTAINED 2015 TOYOTA PRIUS WHEN I EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. MY VEHICLE SHOT FORWARD AND IN A SECOND HAD CRASHED OVER A CEMENT CURB, THROUGH A FLOWER BED, AND WAS STOPPED - DESPITE MY DESPERATELY JAMMING THE BRAKE - ONLY BY SMASHING INTO A BRICK WALL. THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING ON THE CAR IS NOW SEVERELY DAMAGED, AND THE CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. I AM HORRIFIED: I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AND WORSE, HIT/HURT ANOTHER PERSON (OR AT THE VERY LEAST SEVERELY DAMAGED PROPERTY). WHAT IF I HAD CHOSEN A PARKING SPOT IN FRONT OF A GROUP OF CHILDREN?!! THEY CLOUD HAVE BEEN KILLED! THE CAR IS NOW AT A TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER WAITING FOR TOYOTA CORPORATE TO "DECIDE" IF A CAR ACCELERATING INTO A BRICK WALL OF ITS ACCORD IS A "DESIGN FLAW" THAT IT WILL PAY TO FIX. I BELIEVE THAT WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED IS THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS THE THROTTLE/ACCELERATION EXPERIENCED A SOFTWARE BUG WHICH THREW THE CAR FORWARD. IN FACT, TOYOTA WAS FORCED PAY OUT OVER ONE BILLION DOLLARS IN FINES LAST YEAR (2014) BY THE US GOVERNMENT FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE - BUT APPARENTLY IT DIDN'T FIX ITS 2015 LINE B/F LETTING IT GO TO MARKET. I PURCHASED THE TOYOTA PRIUS BECAUSE IT WAS RECEIVED TOP SAFETY AND RELIABILITY RATINGS. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY TO PARK THE CAR. I PRESSED THE POWER OFF BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE CAR. THE SHIFT LEVER WAS IN THE DRIVE POSITION. THE CAR DISPLAY SAID GOODBYE BUT THE CAR DROVE FORWARD. I JAMMED ON THE BRAKE AND HIT A WAGON CAUSING $1300 DAMAGE. A CHILD OR ANIMAL COULD HAVE BEEN HIT. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES ON P.188 THAT IF THE HYBRID SYSTEM OF THE CAR IS TURNED OFF WITH THE SHIFT LEVER IN A POSITION OTHER THAN PARK, THE CAR WILL BE TURNED TO ACCESSORY MODE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2015 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE ANOTHER DRIVER WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE ROOF COLLAPSED ON THE DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS. THERE WERE TWO FATALITIES UPON IMPACT AND THE THIRD PASSENGER WAS AIRLIFTED TO A HOSPITAL. THE DOCTOR DIAGNOSED THAT THE THIRD PASSENGER WAS BRAIN DEAD, WHICH LED TO HER DEATH DUE TO THE ROOF COLLAPSING ON HER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED AWAY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000. UPDATED 9/25/15 *LN UPDATED 11/28/2017*CN

I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE WHERE MY FRONT WAS UP AGAINST A BUILDING WITH A CAR ON EITHER SIDE OF ME. I REVERSED FOR ABOUT 25' WHERE A TELEPHONE POLE MANDATED THAT I MAKE A K-TURN TO GET OUT. AS I SWITCHED FROM REVERSE TO FORWARD, I SAW A SPARK AS THE CAR JET-PROPELLED FORWARD. I TRIED TO BREAK MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THE CAR ACCELERATED THE 25' INTO THE WALL. ALL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, AND FLUID GUSHED OUT OF THE FRONT END. THE CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. I WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY THAT I MUST HAVE ACCIDENTALLY ACCELERATED INSTEAD OF REPEATEDLY BREAKING. I AM GRATEFUL THAT I HIT A WALL INSTEAD OF PEOPLE. SOMEONE COULD EASILY HAVE DIED HAD I HAD SWITCHED FROM REVERSE GEAR TO FORWARD IN LESS CONFINED LOCATION. THE ENTIRE ACCIDENT LASTED 2 SECONDS, WITH NO OPPORTUNITY TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BREAK OR GO INTO NEUTRAL. PS: I AM A HAPPILY MARRIED DOCTOR WITH BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN, AND NOT AT ALL SUICIDAL. THIS THREE MONTH OLD 2015 PRIUS 3 FAILED BEFORE THE FIRST OIL CHANGE. A BRAND NEW:2015 ONLY DRIVEN FOR TWO DAYS, WENT OUT OF CONTROL AFTER COMPLETING RIGHT TURN. DRIVER STOPPED AT RED LIGHT. TURNED RIGHT WHILE ACCELERATING WITH FULL CONTROL OF VEHICLE. COMPLETED RIGHT TURN WHILE ACCELERATING TO ATTAIN HIGHWAY SPEED IN 45 MPH ZONE. UPON COMPLETION OF TURN DRIVER TURNED STEERING WHEEL LESS THAN 2 INCHES TO DRIVERS RIGHT TO CONTINUE BEARING ON STRAIT COURSE DOWN HIGHWAY. IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER STEERING WHEEL SHUDDERED, AND STEERING WHEEL ROTATED HARD TO THE RIGHT FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE A 110 PLUS DEGREE ROTATION.
