VERIFYCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Typical interval: 120,000 mi / 10 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify timing chain tensioner service history with the seller
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
VERIFYCriticalWater Pump
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 8 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify water pump service history with the seller
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
VERIFYHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Typical interval: 60,000 mi / 5 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify transmission fluid / service service history with the seller
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
VERIFYHighDifferential / Transfer Case Fluid
Typical interval: 50,000 mi / 4 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify differential / transfer case fluid service history with the seller
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
VERIFYHighCoolant Flush
Manufacturer interval: 105,000 mi / 7 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify coolant flush service history with the seller
per Nissan maintenance guide
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
VERIFYModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 8 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify spark plugs (iridium/platinum) service history with the seller
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
VERIFYModerateFuel Injectors
Typical interval: 120,000 mi / 10 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify fuel injectors service history with the seller
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

ODI #11752442POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS

Driving at 75 miles per hour on highway. We Heard an explosion, and airbags deployed. There was no collision or front end hit, there was no warning lights or sounds, no deceleration. My husband was somehow able to pull to the side, we were not injured, except for the airbag hitting me in the head, egg noted. No EMS treatment. Police report confirms this, when towed, the tow guy noticed loud clanging when driving onto flat bed. He looked underneath and noticed the axel shaft was broken. I think this could have been tragic for many reasons- high speed with air bags open unable to see and driver disoriented momentarily. This could have killed us or someone else had there been heavy traffic or cars near us, the fumes were bad. We have a police report with Maine state police, we have had the vehicle towed to a Nissan dealer in Bangor Maine to have the “ black box” evaluated, we have filed an insurance claim and spoken to national Nissan customer service and a report has been generated.

ODI #11733471POWER TRAIN,AIR BAGS

The car broke on the highway (possibly drive train? Waiting for mechanic). Despite no impact, the steering wheel airbag deployed.

ODI #11730738FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the contact was losing control of the vehicle. The Forward Collision Avoidance warning light was illuminated, with a rattling and beeping sound coming from the vehicle. An independent mechanic was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was an issue with the contact’s information. The failure mileage was unknown.

ODI #11715958AIR BAGS,SERVICE BRAKESCRASH

The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH and attempting to come to a stop, the vehicle failed to decelerate sufficiently, resulting in a rear-end collision. Upon impact, the frontal air bags failed to fully deploy, as they only partially emerged from the housing. The vehicle's front bumper was a bit scratched. The failure experienced was a malfunction of the braking system that failed to stop the vehicle during deceleration, followed by a failure where the frontal air bags only partially deployed upon impact. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

ODI #11703256FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at 82 MPH, the vehicle suddenly started to lose motive power while depressing the accelerator pedal without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle eventually resumed normal operation before the hesitation returned. The contact stated that while driving to the mechanic, both the check engine and ABS warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that after arriving to the independent mechanic, the mechanic retrieved DTCs: P0087 (Fuel Rail System Pressure too low) and P0090(Fuel Pump). The contact called a dealer, and the contact was provided with an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

ODI #11702999SERVICE BRAKES

On three separate incidents my brakes have totally failed. I went to apply the brakes and the pedal went to the floor with no braking action at all. The most recent occurrence we were exiting a freeway and coming to a traffic signal. Our speed was approximately 45 MPH and upon applying the brakes they completely failed. The pedal went to the floor. Thankfully we were able to cross the intersection without a collision and slow down on an uphill on ramp..

ODI #11702032ENGINE

Check engine light came in. Took into repair shop to change oil and diagnose issue. It was about 7,000 miles since previous oil change with full synthetic oil. Drained oil was full of metal shavings. Refilled oil and ran engine. Metal shavings was again observed in oil immediately. Mechanic stated vehicle needed a new engine. Noticed another complaint (#11674909) built around same time with exact same issue. Vehicle has ~160k miles with regular maintenace and only synthetic oil. There should not be engine damage at this point that would lead to a failure as this. Cost of repair is currently being worked up by repair shop but likely in $3-7k range.

ODI #11689533ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Car started jerking multiple times and then RPM went down to zero and stopped driving while in traffic.

ODI #11682079EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact observed a melted spot and soot on the bottom of the front passenger’s side headlight assembly. The vehicle was taken to an auto body shop, where it was determined that the front passenger’s side headlight assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,300.

ODI #11679737ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Left side passenger lock mechanism just stopped working. Conducted research online and discovered it’s a rather huge issue with some Nissan vehicles. (I also saw a lawsuit currently in pending status related to this matter) The actuator needs to be repaired. All other locks in the vehicle work fine. Safety issue because door remains locked.

ODI #11676971ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION

The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that various electrical sensors alerted that there were objects nearby; however, there were no objects nearby. Due to the failure, the cruise control feature was inoperable. The contact also stated that the back over prevention camera screen intermittently displayed a blank image while the vehicle was shifted to reverse(R). The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

ODI #11674909ENGINE

Upon a tune up request, mechanic discovered metal shavings in the engine. I got a second opinion, and was told that I needed a new engine. Vehicle is still under 100,000 miles.

ODI #11674247ENGINE

Complete engine failure. I did regular oil changes about every 4000 miles and the last one I did early at around 3200 miles the oil was sludge and after the engine knocked and low oil pressure light came on and the engine blew all within 2 miles of the light coming on and me trying to find a safe place to pull over. These engines have a defect somewhere and I know it didn't happen from improper maintenance.

ODI #11673929POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

Idle needle jumping when turning the car on. Delay in shifting gears and throttle response. Forward collision warning goes off at random times even when no cars are present.

My driver side door will not lock or unlock. I have changed the battery in the key fob and I am still having the same problem. I believe the lock actuator is malfunctioning. I have taken it to a mechanic and they have confirmed, however, I have not taken it into the dealership. There were no warning labels or messages that appeared.

Additionally, the contact stated that the instrument cluster had gone black. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had been a reoccurring failure for several months. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that brake fluid was leaking onto the circuit board and causing a short circuit. The dealer advised the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V807000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

I almost wrecked because I could not see through the windshield when the wipers failed. I was driving in the rain in rush hour traffic. The rain stopped. I turned off my wipers. I was on an onramp to the interstate at dusk. The rain started again. I tried to turn on the wipers but they would not turn on. After several attempts and moving the control arm to various positions, the wipers came back on and worked. The rain lightened again. I turned them off. When I attempted to turn the wipers back on when the rain started again they did not turn on, no matter which position the control arm was moved to. Luckily the rain stopped. I tried the wipers again once I was off the interstate and they worked. I passed by the dealership before going home but the service doors were down. I did not stop. I have not yet taken it to the dealership but intend to this weekend. This was a terrifying situation. I can't imagine if I had been in heavy traffic or needed to veer and this malfunctioned. It could have cost me my life. Please get this fixed.

Vehicle Transfer Case had complete failure at 25,800 miles of street/highway use. My family had to pull to the shoulder of [XXX] in Maryland due to uncertain loud noises. The issue was reported to local Nissan dealer (where I purchased this vehicle new) and scheduled for repairs. The service manager stated that the $5,357 failure was 'likely' due to low tire tread. I was driving my Pathfinder and I experienced engine failure. It is a four year old engine with 170000 miles on it that has been properly maintained. The engine was knocking and would not accelerate on the highway past 40 mph. When I finally stopped the car, it would not restart. I read an article where this type of engine failure was consistent with the Rogue and Altimas that you were already investigating and I was wondering if the Pathfinder had a related investigation going on.

My rear camera display malfunctions and the screen goes black. I took it on to Nissan for repair and the problem is still not resolved. I contacted Nissan on several times and reported the issue to see if my vehicle is on recall list but it’s not. I believe it should be. I also have issues with my driver window. It gets stuck especially in the winters. I took my vehicle to Nissan to resolve the issue, and they said it’s glue to how the doors were made. I purchase the vehicle brand new. I feel Nissan rushed the car on me to get a sale and didn’t double check to see if the vehicle had any flaws. I would like to report a recall on my vehicle. When I looked online I noticed the rear view camera has been recalled and I wonder why my vehicle is not on the recall list. Nissan has a record of my vehicle being brought in to repair it.

Cruise control does not always brake when coming close to object. ABS, traction control and collision warning lights will come on periodically causes cruse control to not operate at all. First time it happened was Dec of 2020, was told by dealer it was faulty sensor and was supposedly fixed yet warning lights continue to come on frequently and cruise control will not work until car if shut of and back on. Since 2020 I have reported is to Keating Nissan a few times but they say they lights have to be on when I bring it it. When car shut off lights go off and don’t always come back on right away. Car has tended to speed up on its own when cruise control is on when no need to speed up on flat straight road stretch. Nissan uses bi-metal lug nuts, as does a number of other manufacturers, including Jeep. For Nissan, these are a steel lug nut covered with a shiny metal, likely chrome. Over time, there apparently has been corrosion, either galvanic or because the thermal cycling the wheel experiences allow moisture to get between the two metals and rust occurs. The end result is the lug nut swells and the manufacturer provided lug wrench no longer fits, preventing the owner from changing a flat tire. While not a major saftety issue, it does increase the risk of an owner being injured as they attempt to force the lug wrench onto the lug nut. The owner is also at a slightly elevated risk as they repeatedly attempt to remove the tire on the side of the road, increasing the time exposed to traffic. Even roadside assistance likely does not have the specialty tool (21.5mm or 22.5mm socket) needed to remove the tire. These bimetal lug nuts should be banned.

Monday, January 30, at 7:25pm, I was driving my 2019 Nissan Pathfinder at 55mph and the sunroof exploded. The weather was clear, 60 degrees, no precipitation. There was a loud explosion then the sound of glass rained over the roof of the car. The interior shield was closed; therefore, glass did not enter the vehicle. We pulled over immediately to inspect the vehicle. The sunroof was identified as shattered with the glass shards in an upward position. We did not have cars around us. We were on an open road, no where near an overpass. There was nothing that could have fallen or hit the sunroof. Because the glass rained over the car and the glass was positioned upward, it is clear the sunroof exploded.

Is it noted anywhere that the 2019 Nissan Pathfinder SV 4x4 vehicle's brakes wear rather quickly, that whatever pin was missing is not secured properly and as well as the brake fluid dissapating? All of this is vital to proper safety. Although I like Pathfinders, I will not subject myself or my funds to an unsafe vehicle and the repairing brakes every 3 months. I was told and shown that my vehicle had new front and rear brakes when it was purchased. My rear brakes wore out in 3 months of owning the vehicle and the front ones are wearing in their 5th month. When I had the rear brakes repaired at Tire South, they explained that I was missing a vital pin, which is why it was making noise. There was also no brake fluid present. They said I had been very lucky while driving.

2019 Nissan Pathfinder SV 4x4 was purchased April 30, 2022- I've noticed that the hood moves, vibrates, flutters almost aggrssively while drivng on local streets and the hwy. It's as if the hood was made of paper or flimsy material and wants to fly off it's hinges. At times I'm fixated on it, although my attention should be on the road and watching for other drivers. The hood makes me nervous as if an accident is inevitible. I haven't taken it to be checked as of yet, but something needs to be done about this if others are experiencing this exact issue.

At one point i have mentioned it to my local nissa dealer which they checked and said the latch looks ok. It is still doing the same thing till this day. Transmission – CVT (Jatco JF016E / JF017E)
COVERAGE:Extended to 5 years / 60,000 miles; some class action settlements provide additional coverage

Nissan's Jatco continuously variable transmissions (CVT) suffer from overheating, shuddering, sudden deceleration, and premature failure. Nissan extended the CVT warranty following class action lawsuits. In some cases the warranty was extended further to 84,000 miles for documented repeat-failure vehicles. A class action settlement (Ponzio v. Nissan) provided additional reimbursement rights.

HOW TO CLAIM: Contact Nissan Consumer Affairs (1-800-647-7261) and provide your VIN to check for any CVT extended warranty applicable to your specific model year and variant. Ask the dealer to check for any open special coverage authorizations in their warranty system.

Coverage eligibility depends on your VIN, original sale date, and current mileage. Always verify with an authorized dealer or manufacturer customer service — programs may have been updated since this database was compiled.
