54/100
Warning Deferred Risk
The safety systems system is the most-reported problem for the 2014 HONDA Ridgeline — 13 NHTSA complaints (38% of all filings). Prioritize it in a pre-purchase inspection.
⚠No odometer data on record. Items marked VERIFY below are age-based maintenance reminders — general guidance, not confirmed findings for this specific vehicle. Confirm actual mileage and service history with the seller.
CASCADECriticalFailure Cascade
Cascade already triggered — downstream damage likely in progress
Have a specialist inspect all systems connected to the failed component before purchase
One failed component has created stress on connected systems. Repair costs compound quickly — a $500 fix can become $3,000+ if cascade damage is ignored.

VERIFYCriticalTiming Belt
Typical interval: 90,000 mi / 7 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify timing belt service history with the seller
✓ Timing type per published engine specification
A snapped timing belt causes immediate, catastrophic engine damage — bent valves, destroyed pistons. No warning. Replace before the interval, not after.
VERIFYCriticalWater Pump
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 8 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify water pump service history with the seller
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
VERIFYHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Typical interval: 60,000 mi / 5 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify transmission fluid / service service history with the seller
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
VERIFYHighCoolant Flush
Manufacturer interval: 120,000 mi / 10 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify coolant flush service history with the seller
✓ per Honda owner's manual maintenance schedule
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
VERIFYModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Typical interval: 100,000 mi / 8 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify spark plugs (iridium/platinum) service history with the seller
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
VERIFYModerateFuel Injectors
Typical interval: 120,000 mi / 10 yr · Verify service records (no odometer on file)
Verify fuel injectors service history with the seller
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V430000 (Structure), the contact discovered severe corrosion on the rear frame of the vehicle. An independent mechanic refused to service the vehicle due to the extent of the corrosion. A dealer confirmed the frame failure but provided no assistance with the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and informed the contact that parts were unavailable, and a vehicle buyback would be offered. The contact was promised a follow-up call from the manufacturer; however, the contact had not heard back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

I responded to a recall for my 2014 Honda Ridgeline on October 19, 2023. I have gone through recalls before and did not think much of it until the dealership informed me that my vehicle was "CONDEMNED". I have been calling Honda America ever since and they are not responsive. I was given a case manager as of October 23rd but this case manager cannot get me a loaner vehicle or any other information on how Honda America will make me whole. I have one car in my family and we live in a rural area with no public transportation. If Honda is going to issue a recall and find no remedy they MUST be held accountable and must be responsive to people like me who needs a car to get to work. The Honda dealership made me sign a waiver saying I assume all responsibility if anything happens which is outrageous. I requested a loaner vehicle and they denied the request. I asked that my case be expedited and it's been 3 weeks with no word.

My local dealership, Wesley Chaple Honda, in Wesley Chaple Florida, cannot get the tool required to perform the recall /repair of the rusted gas tank belt support that the recall no. 22V430 refers to. I purchased the 2014 Honda Ridgeline in Butler, PA in 2014 and is considered the rust belt region which is causing the corrosion of the support. Honda claims there are not enough Ridgelines in Florida to supply the local dealership with the necessary repair parts and the special tool required to make the correction. The Honda Corp. customer support just says to take the vehicle back to the dealership for the recall, but the dealership here cannot perform the recall without the proper tool.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Paint defect for 2014 Honda Ridgeline How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? NA Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Dealership auto body shop said that the car's paint seems to have a defect such as clear coat is gone on car that is why it is peeling badly which is resulting to rust. I do not know if the paint had been improperly applied or issues with chemical composition of the paint that lead to premature chipping and wear that is occurring with the car. I had a 2007 honda pilot older than the 2014 Honda Ridgeline and it is not even peeling and rusty like the ridgeline. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? By Martin--email Martin.Rehfeldt@russdarrow.com who is the body shop manager at Russ Darrow Honda. I brought it to Honda Corporation's attention at acs@ahm.honda.com Case #: 12815491 and they refuse to assist claiming that there is no recall and it is considered "normal wear and tear" which I do not believe that in my case is the truth. There have been several complaints about Honda ridgeline's customers who are unhappy about the peeling paint. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Started toward at the end of 2021 and then had it estimated in Mar 2022, cost over $10,519 for the paint alone. For a paint job that cost over $10519 that means that there must be something wrong with the car to being with during manufacturing. It should NOT be blame on normal wear and tear. Solution: I would appreciate for Honda to do a courtesy repair on the car such as a new paint job at their own expense. Perhaps NHTSA should contact and research about folks who are in the same position as I am with the peeling paint.

There was significant water infiltration on left side front at location around and below fuse block and parking brake. Soaked insulation up to driver side seat and back to the windshield on the same side were noted. Water infiltration after heavy rain was severe enough to cause audible parking brake alarm that wouldn't clear completely until the area had partially dried. This alarm is loud enough and persistent enough to cause driver distraction and would become intermittent as carpet dried. insulation had to be removed after it was noted still wet after three days of no rain and with what appeared visibly as black mold near steering column at floor board. This appears similar to water infiltration addressed in the Honda service bulletin 07-082 for the 2007 and 2008 year models of the Ridgeline truck.

Safety Recall for rear subframe rust was "performed" at local dealer. Quality of work was questioned in that safety recall indicated dealer would removed corrosion on said subframe and apply anti-corrosive wax. Dealer notes they applied some anti-corrosive wax and some undercoating to a small section but did not coat ALL corrosion areas they cleaned. I had area reviewed by independent repair shop who noted the area was a concern and should be coated in the near future to prevent further corrosion and damage to frame. After discussing this with the dealer service department they informed me that was my job and my expense and told me to "have a nice day" and hung up. Is this appropriate behavior for a safety related item that could result in a fuel tank detachment or fuel leak?

IT WAS SO BAD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HOLD MY BREATH, EXIT THE TRUCK, AND SPRINT INTO MY HOUSE TO AVOID INHALING THOSE FUMES. IT QUICKLY BECAME APPARENT TO ME (AS AN AMATEUR MECHANIC) THAT SOMEHOW OIL WAS FINDING ITS WAY INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND WAS BEING BURNED, RESULTING IN THE SMOKE & FUMES. I THEREFORE TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE HONDA DEALER IN ORDER TO HAVE THEM ISOLATE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM. LATER IN THE DAY [XXX] PHONED TO SAY THAT THEIR SERVICE TECHNICIANS HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE HAD DONE NO SERVICE TO THE TRUCK, AND THAT I SHOULD COME PICK IT UP. WHEN I ASKED WHAT DIAGNOSTIC SERVICE HAD BEEN PERFORMED, [XXX] TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD STARTED THE TRUCK SEVERAL TIMES AND LET IT RUN FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, ALL THE WHILE VISUALIZING THE EXHAUST PIPE TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY SMOKE: THERE WAS NONE. THEREFORE THEY SEEMINGLY DECIDED THAT THERE MUST NOT BE ANY PROBLEM AND THAT MY COMPLAINT WAS NOT VALID. TO SUMMARIZE: MY RIDGELINE IS BURNING OIL, WHICH PRESENTS A HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME; CLOUDS OF BLUE SMOKE AND FUMES ARE BEING DISCHARGED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT; AND I HAVE BEEN INSULTED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AT VACAVILLE HONDA WHEN I TRIED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM CORRECTED. TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA IN MARCH OF 2016 INFORMING ME OF THE RECALL, THEY SAID THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN THE SUMMER OF 2016. THE LETTER FURTHERED STATED THAT I WOULD RECEIVE ANOTHER LETTER TELLING ME THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 07/29/2016, AND WAS INFORMED I HAD TO TELL THEM I WANTED THE PART REPLACED, AND THEY WOULD ORDER IT. I SPOKE WITH DEXTER, HE SAID HE WOULD ORDER IT, AND IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT SIX WEEKS. I CALLED BACK ON 08/29/2016 AND SPOKE TO TIM MAYWART, HE SAID THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER, BUT THEY SHOULD BE THERE SOON, AND THEY WOULD CALL ME. HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT TO GET DEFECTIVE PARTS REPLACED WHEN THERE'S A RECALL?

TAKATA RECALL THERE ARE NO LOANER TRUCKS IN MY AREA AND WAS TOLD THAT I AM ONLY ELIGIBLE FOR SAFE TRANSPORTATION OF ANY KIND, DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A TRUCK. THEY ALSO DO NOT HAVE CARS AVAILABLE IN WILMINGTON, NC. THE NEXT CLOSEST DEALERSHIP IS 71 MILES AWAY. WE ARE NOT HAPPY, AS WE BOUGHT A TRUCK AND NOT A CAR. WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN DRIVING A CAR UNTIL THE PARTS COME IN SOMETIME NEXT SUMMER. THAT IS TOOOOO LONG TO WAIT. HONDA NEEDS TO LOAN VEHICLES COMPARABLE TO WHAT WE HAVE.

TAKATA RECCALL - I OWN AN AFFECTED VEHICLE AND DESPITE CALLING HONDA NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME ABOUT PROVIDING SAFE TRANSPORTATION UNTIL THE ISSUE IS FIXED. THE PARTS TO FIX MAY NOT BE READY UNTIL THE SUMMER AND THEIR OWN SITE STATES THAT DANGER INCLUDES SERIOUS INJURY AND EVEN DEATH. I HAVE BEEN IN 2 ACCIDENTS WHERE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY FAMILY WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE.

UPON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND TURNING TO EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT THE THROTTLE CONTROL WOULD HESITATE AND NOT BE RESPONSIVE TO FURTHER STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT WAS LIKE A DEAD ZONE AS THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE DEPRESSION ON THE GAS PEDAL. WE DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE MUCH BEING RETIRED BUT NEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THIS IS OUR 3RD RIDGELINE SINCE 2005 AND NEVER HAS THIS HAPPENED IN PRIOR TRUCKS OWNED. I THOUGHT IT WAS A QUIRK BUT IT HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND FINALLY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 3/16/15 AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING BUT DID TELL ME THEY HAD ANOTHER CUSTOMER WITH A SIMILAR COMPLAINT THAT THEY AGAIN WOULD LOCATE NO CAUSE. THIS HAS CAUSED US TO LOSE CONFIDENCE IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE NORMALLY YOU ARE CROSSING OPPOSITE LANES OF TRAFFIC WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IF THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND AND IS IN A DEAD LIKE ZONE FOR A FEW SECONDS, THAT MEANS WE COULD BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY DID FIND ON YOUR DATA BASE ANOTHER CUSTOMER OF A 2014 MODEL WHO REPORTED THIS ENGINE HESITATION OR LACK OF THROTTLE RESPONSE. SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG AND AFTER DRIVING TWO OTHER RIDGELINES FOR 9 YEARS I KNOW IT AND NOW MY FAMILY IS SCARED TO EVEN DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT AND NOTIFYING HONDA OF AMERICA FORMALLY AS WELL BECAUSE IF THIS VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT I WANT HONDA TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. *TR

AFTER ARRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALER WITH THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE, MY WIFE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR EVEN THOUGH I PRESSED UNLOCK SWITCH ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND PRESSED THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE KEY AND ALSO TRIED TO PULL UP THE LOCK MANUALLY BUT I COULDN'T GET IT TO UNLOCK. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT FINALLY WORKED AND SHE WAS ABLE TO GET OUT. THE FOLLOWING MORNING IT STARTED WORKING OKAY BUT THEN TODAY THE DOOR LOCK FAILED AGAIN AND COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR BOTH FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. WHEN UNLOCK SWITCH IS PRESSED, THE DOORLOCK CLICKS AND COMES UP PARTIALLY BUT THEN IT GOES DOWN TO LOCK POSITION. THE PASSENGER HAD TO COME OUT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I FIGURE THIS MALFUNCTION COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND PASSENGER IS IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF EVACUATION. *TR
