ODI #11736186VISIBILITY/WIPER

We bought our 2023 Camry brand new off the lot and had no idea until the first rainstorm we were in that there was an issue with the wiper motor. Anytime there is moderate to hard rainfall and we turn the wipers on high they run at a low speed causing poor to no visibility. We have to pull over every time wait out the rain. We’ve mentioned our concern many times to the dealership where we have our Toyotas serviced and they just tell us they don’t see a recall for this problem. This is incredibly dangerous and hazardous and it needs to be fixed - we just don’t know how to go about it at this point.

ODI #11722169ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I am filing a complaint regarding my 2023 Toyota Camry with 23,375 miles. The vehicle has been diagnosed with an infotainment system failure that presents identical symptoms to an active recall affecting similar vehicles. Toyota has confirmed my VIN is not included in the recall campaign, despite the failure matching the recall description. The dealership has documented the defect, and Toyota approved only 50% goodwill assistance. The system malfunction affects core vehicle functions controlled through the infotainment interface, creating driver distraction and potential safety concerns. I am concerned that vehicles outside the current VIN range are experiencing the same defect and that the recall population may be too narrowly defined. I am requesting review of this issue to determine whether additional vehicles, including mine, should be included in the recall. I have attached the diagnostic invoice for the dealership to confirm no updates or repairs could be performed and a new infotainment system would be required at an out of pocket cost of 50% of $2277.87.

Component(s) Involved: Front and rear subframe/crossmember, driveline (CV axles, differential), stability and traction control system (including yaw sensor, steering angle sensor, and Accessory Gateway ECU). Available for Inspection: Yes. The vehicle is available for inspection, and I have detailed photographs, video, screenshots, diagnostic scan reports, and live data logs documenting the issue. How Safety Was Put at Risk: The vehicle experiences severe vibration, uneven wheel acceleration, and deactivation of traction and stability control. This compromises braking, emergency handling, and overall stability — especially dangerous in rain, snow, or during evasive maneuvers. The alignment of the rear differential and axles is visibly off-center, indicating a shifted or bent subframe. These defects pose a risk of driveline damage or failure while driving. Was the Problem Confirmed by a Service Center? Yes, multiple Toyota dealerships and independent shops confirmed symptoms including vibration, tire wear, and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). However, no dealership has acknowledged or addressed the underlying subframe misalignment or driveline distortion. Some attempted to blame scan tools (Moses), while others dismissed the vehicle as “safe to drive” despite active faults (L&S Toyota) Has It Been Inspected by Manufacturer/Police/Insurance? It has been seen by manufacturer-affiliated dealers and independent mechanics, but not formally by Toyota Corporate or insurance. The prior owner also reported similar problems under warranty, indicating these issues existed before resale. --- Warning Lamps or Symptoms Before Failure: Yes. And no. Issues appeared immediately after purchase and include: “Smart Key Not Detected” error Traction Control, VSC, and ABS warning lights TPMS malfunction warning Sudden clunks from rear suspension Irregular tire wear DTCs like U1117, U0140, U0115 AND MORE indicating network and stability system failures (Email for more.)

I have had this car serviced regularly with no indications or warnings of any problems until it just stopped shifting normally one day. Took it to toyota and they ran a diagnostic indeed stating the transmission has to be replaced entirely. And because I am just over 60000 miles they will not honor a warranty on it. Transmissions should not go out at 62000 miles. This is a defect.

ODI #11654246FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The vehicle ADAS system (pre-collision, ABS, RSA, adaptive cruise control) malfunctioned (due to no physical or external fault) and sent messages to be brought to the dealer. Upon being brought to the dealer they’re telling me that the car’s physical battery (low amperage) is responsible for disabling the vehicles factory safety settings. Aside from having an open dispute with this dealer at the moment to cover the problem under my platinum warranty, this is a major defect in Toyota motor corps factory vehicle settings. At the moment the car is a safety liability because of a “battery”

My 2023 Camry has 'floormat-hold-down-clips' on the drivers side only. The passenger side has none and without them it allows the mat to roll up. Aside from being annoying, it is also a tripping hazard. My wife and I are both in our mid seventies and broken bones are a real concern. I contacted Toyota customer service and their solution was NOT to anchor the loose floor mat down but to give me a replacement mat ----fixing nothing.

The smart stop system, the vehicle stability control system, the electrical power steering system, the blind spot monitoring system, the secondary collision brake system, and the lane keeping assistance all malfunctioned while traveling home one night. My made a really loud continuous beeping sound as I was driving the vehicle sensed it was departing its lane and the lane keeping assistance over steered left. This caused my vehicle to scrape the curb, causing cosmetic damage, mess up the wheel alignment , and crack front drivers side rim, because I physically tried to turn away to prevent any impact with the curb. I also had this vehicle stop in the middle of the road MULTIPLE TIMES DETECTING an object or obstruction was in the road when nothing was there! This almost caused rear end collisions multiple times when it happened. I actually turned this feature down to the lowest possible setting to prevent it from happening. If you are asking is it available for inspection by me it is not. This vehicle had an extremely high monthly car note. Once I took it to the dealership for inspection, they were not willing to honor my new car warranty. Even though I brought this car with 10 miles on the odometer. The dealership was negligent, & as was Toyota corporation. when I called to have it inspected and got their upper management involved. They sent out a 3rd party inspector to look at my car at Jerry’s Toyota inc, located in Baltimore Maryland where it was purchased. Upon inspection nothing was said or noted at all about any of the malfunctioned systems to my vehicle, they used it having exterior damage from impacting the curb to say, the problem was my fault & to get insurance to fix it because it’s not their problem. Yes my safety and other safety were put at risk because of this vehicle. Yes it was inspected by a 3rd party inspector Toyota hired to look at the vehicle. On April [XXX] at about [XXX] a.m., upon returning from exercising at the Peter Blum YMCA in Boca Raton, I was very slowly parking my car in the garage. The car was half way in when it suddenly accelerated forwards, impacting two bicycles standing on their racks at the end of the garage, the washing machine, the dryer, the water heater and through them, the garage back wall, where cracks were created. I applied the brakes as hard as I could but the car just kept going. It finally stopped, after hitting the bicycles and the appliances. Astonished by what was happening, I put the car in park and then very carefully, I went backwards to review the damage. All of a sudden, the car accelerated backwards until it hit some bushes across the street from my house. It is a street with foot traffic by neighbors holding their small kids and dogs. Cars are usually parked on the side walk. Miraculously, nobody was injured and no car was parked. I authorized inspection by Toyota. My insurance company GEICO only inspected body damages to the car. This is the 3rd time I have went to push the gas pedal and the car did not immediately respond. There are no check engine or other warning lights on the dashboard. This is a huge safety issue as one time I went to pull out and the car acceleration did not respond almost causing an accident. I have not yet taken the car to the dealership but plan to soon. The last time I took the car to the dealer they said they would charge me, even if the vehicle is in warranty period, if they did not find anything therefore discouraging such items from being reported/further investigated. ODI #11574846TIRES

I bought this set of tires new from Sams Club on 10/28/2023. On 12/16/2023 a TPMS warning light came on so I added air. Then three days the light came on and I added air again, and so on, and so on until 12/28/2023 I took it back to Sams Club and they replaced the tire with another tire of the same brand and type, and said it was a manufacturing defect. About a month later on 1/31/2024 the TPMS light came back on, so I added air and took it back to Sams Club to have it checked. They said it had a "hole" and they fixed it and put it back on. Then on 2/27/2024 the TPMS light came on and I added air and soaped all the tires and the same tire was leaking around the rim, and another tire on the rear driver side was bubbling around the rim. I compared the pictures to verify that the leaks were on different locations on the wheel, but the same location on the tire. In total, I've had three of these tires leak around the rim; two from the set I purchased on 10/28/2023, and one that they put on 12/28/2023 to replace the first tire that leaked. I spoke with a manager at Sams Club this morning and they're replacing the set with a different brand that matches what came with the car from the factory. I have pictures of all three leaks, and the last two tire codes.

The 8 speed transmission sometimes hard shifts to a different gear randomly. Happened total of 4 times while cruising. During Low speed, when press the gas let go and gas immediately again causes the car to jerk and the transmission shifts hard in stop and go traffic. The transmission also making the engine rpm fluctuate when applying gas every time. rpm would go up then drops back down when gas is applied. All this happened with in the time ive owned it. Had the dealer check it out. But the technician said there isn't anything wrong with it. But the jerky transmission says otherwise. also the car hunts for gears when using cruise control. Thats a problem because it cant figure out what gear it wants to be in. It would continue until i turn off adaptive cruise control. I happens a few times not too often.

ODI #11541252SERVICE BRAKES

Excess vibration when braking, I took the car into the Toyota dealership they inspected the vehicle and said the front rotors are warped. The presumed cause are the brakes overheating. I drive this vehicle 80 miles a day one way at freeway speeds. Very little stop and go traffic. My concern this has been present since about 20,000 miles . I am currently at 28,000 miles. Toyota customer service said there is no warrantee and this is normal operating conditions. I am very familiar with cars and this is unsafe. My concern is it is getting progressively worse and know the kind of driving I do there is likely a vehicle has inferior parts or the vehicle braking system is not adequate.

The windshield wipers go wayyyyy to slow for heavy rain. I live in Florida so the rain is basically unpredictable. The wipers on the highest setting possible is medium to light speed to other cars. It is very dangerous in rain at all. I don’t feel safe driving in any kind of rain with how slow the wipers are because of the almost no visibility of the road. There are many others that I have reached out that are having the same issue and have been for years. Please get this recalled and fixed!! Let’s keep people safer when driving in the rain.

I am filing a complaint regarding the quality of cars manufactured by Toyota, which I believe poses a risk to drivers' lives. I recently bought a new 2023 Toyota Camry LE AWD from a dealer in Kansas Throughout my life, I have driven numerous cars, but I have never felt as unsafe and fearful as each time I drive this car and feel I don't know whether I will be able to return home safely or not. This situation has led me to believe that Toyota prioritizes profit over people's safety. Here are all the issues I have encountered: ISSUE 1: Vehicle Stability 1. The primary issue I am encountering is the car's tendency to skid when driving above 60 mph, despite keeping the VSC turned on at all times. It becomes challenging to maintain a straight path as the vehicle tends to slip. 2. Through my research on Google, I discovered that Toyota has issued numerous recalls for 2022 models due to VSC/ESC software glitches.I am uncertain whether the problems with my car are a result of a VSC/ESC software glitch or if there is a fault with the any other mechanical system. ISSUE 2: Very High WIND Noise 1. When driving above 40 mph, I experience excessive wind noise inside the car, which creates the sensation of a severe windstorm. This noise is quite loud while driving and causing a feeling of fear and it will damage my ear if I drive with high wind noise for long time. ISSUE 3 : Fraudulent Dealer 1. After facing above mentioned two issues, I took the car to the same dealer but instead of conducting a thorough diagnosis, a technician simply drove the car locally for a few minutes and hastily concluded that "everything is fine." ISSUE 4 : TOYTA IS NOT RESPONDING I have sent 3 emails to the CEO of Toyota-US and Toyota Japan. However, I have not received any replies from either of them. This lack of response from top-level executives suggests that either Toyota is aware of the problems but wants to hide them, or they are unwilling to take responsibility for the safety of their cars.

ABS/Brake system malfunctioned causing accident on Freeway. Was traveling in number 1 lane on Freeway in an area where it usually slows down, I had 3-4 car lengths gap between me and the person in front of me. Traffic started slowing down to about 25-35 mph I maintained a 2-3 car length gap, Traffic let off there brakes and I coasted traveling at roughly 25-35 mph for a couple seconds, then the I noticed the vehicles in front of me slamming on there brakes so I did too except my braking system failed, I'm suspecting the abs system malfunctioned. 25mph with a 3 car gap in a brand new car with less than 5,000 miles with brand new tires should have had no problem stopping in time. My old volvo could have stopped in time on an ice rink. Camry brakes are pretty grabby during normal driving which makes it hard to brake smoothly so it has to be some type of computer glitch which caused the problem.

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 57 total NHTSA complaints filed over 5 years, with the worst year being 2024 (16 complaints, including 3 crash reports).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 84/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

Notably, despite 57 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.

Red dots on the amber line flag 4 years (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
