The electrical system failed and battery then exploded. The vehicle is behind held at a tow yard and has been inspected by allied insurance CPI of tower federal credit union. It is available to be inspected for the time being but will be scrapped soon. Both my safety and the safety of others was at risk- this occurred in a Wendy’s drive through near other vehicles, a building and of course people there in. There’s video footage of the incident taken by Wendy’s staff. The car stopped running as the fire caught- I ( the driver ) had to push the vehicle physically away from the building and cars and got away only one minute before it entirely exploded. Whether or not the problem has been confirmed or reproduced elsewhere is UNKNOWN. The fire was extinguished by firefighters and police did take a report as well. There was absolutely no warning that there was an issue prior - not even a hazard light- the only thing I noticed was my oil temp had begun to increase.
For the second year in a row my windshield has cracked. Nothing hit it, or happened to make it crack. Both cracks were long and coming from the bottom of the windshield under the passenger wiper blade. I noticed it today, 4/28/26 and the same thing happened in the beginning of April last year with the same circumstances (or lack thereof).
I HAVE NOW HAD 4 WINDSHIELDS CRACK AND BREAK AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME ONE LITTLE ROCK HITS THE WINDSHIELD BOOM ANOTHER FULL REPLACEMENT IS NEEDED. EVERY TIME I GO FOR A ROAD TRIP THIS KEEPS HAPPENING THE MUST BE A DEFECT WITH THE DESIGN OR TYPE OF GLASS USED FOR THE SUBARU IMPREZA 2020 MODELS.
I got into an accident going 60 miles an hour I crash into a guardrail totaled the car but no airbags deployed I broke my wrist and dislocated my thumb
Reference complaint no.11684658 confirmed. From email from Tech representative "VDC HYDRAULIC UNIT REPLACEMENT. IT IS AN INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE ABS CONTROL UNIT. THERE ARE SENSORS INSIDE THAT MEASURE BRAKE LINE PRESSURE. THE LEFT FRONT SENSOR IS STUCK AT NEGATIVE 59 BAR. SHOULD BE ZERO AT REST. NOTHING TO DO WITH EYESIGHT THAT LIGHT WILL COME ON WHENEVER THERE IS A WARNING LIGHT ON." The modulator is a safety critical component which undergoes extensive life time testing, one out of 4 pressure sensors should not fail during vehicle life time.
The Eye Sight warning system is activated occasionally and VDC is cut off. The dealer diagnosed code C1742, and recommended replacing the control unit due to a pressure sensor issue after measurement. The units are on back order, which indicates to me a wider spread problem. VDC units should not fail even after 10 years.
White smoke mechanic claims oil mixed with the antifreeze. And stated that the engine needed to be replaced.
The windshield spontaneously cracked while sitting in my driveway. Windshield had no chips, damage, etc. The weather has been in the upper 70's, so no inclement weather. Upon researching, I found that many other Subaru owners have had the same issue.
While car was parked. Front windshield developed crack in the lower mid section of windshield. There was no damage to windshield that would have resulted in cracking. Crack has since spread.
Both rear doors will intermittently not open when unlocked from both the inside or the outside. I am unsure if this is electrical or related to the door components itself. This is a hazard because passengers have been locked in the back of the car, and needed to climb out from the front or needed me to open the door from the outside if it will open—which could be a deadly amount of extra time in an emergency situation where passengers need to quickly exit the vehicle. This issue has been going on over a year, but I did not take it in until two months ago because I rarely had back passengers. That has changed, so I took it in. I have brought the car to the dealership three times for this issue, which is as of now still unresolved, with the following results: 1st visit: They told me child lock was on and turned it off. (I do not believe this, as the doors would occasionally open correctly from the inside—so that would mean child lock is also faulty) 2nd visit: They found weak actuators in both doors and replaced them. 3rd visit: Currently still in the shop for other unrelated issues, but they are having a hard time diagnosing the cause since the doors will open for them—but the lady who checked me in experienced the door sticking with me, and she said she could tell something was wrong.
Windshield breaks (cracks) very easily. I have owned/driven cars for 45 years, during the first 41 years I have only had to replace one (1) windshield. Since I have owned this vehicle (Subaru), I am now onto windshield number five (5). Are they making these windows with inferior materials or thinner? I hate to think that an inferior window will not hold up or perform as designed in a major accident, possibly causing greater injury or death.
Passenger Air-bag igniter's wiring shorted out releasing gas into car. The windows were up and the car was not running. I was sitting in passenger side went to light my cigarette and with no warning at all KABOOM!!! Car exploded catching my hair on fire as well as 2nd and 3rd degree burns on hands and 1st and 2nd degree burns on face. The explosion carried so much force that the doors and back hatch were dented outward making it impossible to shut and lock doors properly. Explosion was so loud the people inside the bar thought a bomb had gone off. This incident was not reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or insurance company due to the fact the car was stolen directly after incident due to the fact that the doors could not shut properly. Prior to this incident no warning lights had gone off to indicate a malfunction in the passenger airbag or the wiring. I guess I was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
On 3 separate occasions since I've had my car, it has powered off completely without warning while driving. This is very dangerous could cause a severe accident or death. I called a tow truck on 3 separate occasions (1/27/23; 2/26/24; 2/28/24) to take it to the dealer or car repair business. Then after 20 - 30 minutes, it starts up again like normal. This make of cars made in 2020 have recalls for this same problem except for the model I have. The maker of these cars are not responding to keep their customers safe and continue to lie about the problems these cars are having. They are poorly made and extremely unsafe.
Over the course of 3 days, my vehicle has sustained 4 chips in the windshield from standard city street driving. The windshield now needs to be replaced from excessive cracks.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal sound and became aware that the windshield had cracked. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the windshield was replaced. The failure had reoccurred, and a crack appeared on the windshield in the same area. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
A loud rumbling noise and vibration occurs while braking at high speed. Braking force seems unaffected but the noise in concerning. Upon inspection and a test drive, Subaru confirmed the issued and noticed uneven brake pad wear on the front brakes and leakage in the front caliper. Subaru recommended replacement of front calipers, pads, and rotors. Subaru replaced pads and rotors. The noise continues to occur occassionally. Subaru is recommending replacement of front brake calipers but is unable to replace them due to a shortage. I am concerned the brakes or other components may fail due to unusual wear. No inspection by police or insurance has been completed. No warning lights occurred, only the noise and vibration during braking.
Was sitting in car preparing to leave. Car was in park and turned on. Heard a loud popping/creaking noise. Looked up and the front windshield cracked in several places.
My car spontanously developed a crack in the windshield. It has slowly grown double in size. The crack has no clear cause, chipping, or impact.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light was not illuminating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the air bag warning light needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was involved in an accident that caused the air bag warning light to malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 46,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle, it was later discovered that a crack had developed on the front windshield. The crack measured approximately 10-inches and extended from the bottom of the windshield. The contact indicated that no rock or object had impacted the windshield to cause the crack. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,000.
I was stopped at a stop light. Traffic was basically at a stand still while the lights were changing. During this time my windshield spontaneously cracked on the lower center section of the glass. It cracked for seemingly no reason at all. Since traffic was stopped there's no way it could have been caused by a rock or flying debris. No weather (such as hail) was occurring at the time.
I believe this article describes the cause of the issue. Thankfully the vehicle was parked in my driveway, and did not roll into the street or harm any people, but it could have. 2020 Subaru Impreza Wrx Service Brakes related problems https://www.carproblemzoo.com/subaru/imprezawrx/2020/2020-subaru-imprezawrx-service-brakes-problems.php
My car was parked outside on the street and when I went to drive it the next morning the windshield had a foot long crack in it. There is no obvious point of collision--it looks like it just split. I will need to replace the windshield for around $1300 since the crack is so large.
I own a 2020 Impreza Hatchback with 18k miles. A significant crack appeared in the windshield out of nowhere, literally while parked in a safe environment. I was advised by Subaru corporate and my local dealership that this is not covered by warranty and would have to make a claim with my insurance. I can provide pictures and further detailed information if so required.
A large Crack appeared and the bottom middle of the windshield and cracked upwards to the lower middle windshield and cracked both to the left and right side.
I was driving at approximately 5 mph, on a road with several steep speed bumps, with no cars around and no overhanging trees, and suddenly a 24-inch hairline crack popped across the driver's side of my windshield. There's no evidence of any impact at all on the windshield--the crack is entirely in between the laminate. Entire windshield now needs to be replaced and I assume the EyeSight recalibrated.
Vehicle was parked in sunlight for approximately 4 hours on a private driveway. Came back and there was a 12+ inch crack in the windshield. No evidence of rock chips. Glass will not be able to be inspected because it needed to be replaced.
Chipped windshield, crack started to spread inside the windshield
The 2020 Subaru Impreza hatchback was purchased new from a Subaru dealer. Approximately, one year after purchase the vehicle started to exhibit hard starting. That is when the key is turned on the engine did not immediately turn over but there began an increased hesitation overtime before engine would turn over. It demonstrated issues of electrical problems. Finally, on March 24, 2022 the engine failed to turn over and we had to have the car towed to the original Subaru dealer. The tow truck driver attempted to turn the engine on but in his opinion, the starter was not working at all. As of the writing of this report we do not know the exact cause of issue nor do we expect to pay for any repairs or parts since the vehicle is still under warranty.
I have had a crack develop in my windshield . This is distracting while driving.I have not reported this . It will be inspected by glass repair shop. There were no warning lights or lamps associated with this .
My windshield cracked straight up the middle for no apparent reason. This problem has been confirmed by numerous NHTSA complaints. Less than 12,000 miles. No rock hit my windshield but I hit a bump when it cracked. $470 to replace or pay my $2,000 deductible.
P205/50R17 Driver side rear tire suddenly experiencing lots of pressure compared to others. Example 27.7 psi on a subject tire compared to 32.0 psi on others after approximately one week of garage storage. Upon inspection, tread separation/ visible cracking is visible on approximately 1/2 of the circumference of the tire. No warning lights from the vehicles tire pressure monitor system has activated and no trouble codes for that system or others are present, indicating the vehicle at least is not aware of a problem with the tire. Tire pressure sensor reports good battery, accurate pressure when compared to Tire gauge pressure, and reports temperature of approximately the ambient temperature (at the moment, is currently 57.0°F). Vehicle has been mostly garage kept since purchase due to Covid. Has experienced normal North Carolina Summer temperatures though recently within two weeks North Carolina has had some of the coldest weather in some time (Lows mid teens, highs low 30s). Manufacturer has been contacted and currently awaiting response. With my previous experience and knowledge in the automotive industry, it appears that the visible cracking on the tire is relatively new. The inner portions of the cracked area, for instance, are clean and free of any debris, dust or dirt.
Windshield cracked for no reason
The windshield cracked without any reason, at the top by the passenger side. The initial crack was approximately a foot and it has since grown and is moving horizontally across the windshield. It is available for inspection. This happened while the car was parked.
The contact owns a 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA. The contact stated that after warming up the after driving approximately 1/10 th of a mile at approximately 10 mph or less when the vehicle's windshield suddenly fractured under the seal rubber in the lower center of the vehicle. in the lower then suddenly migrated to the left and to the right of the windshield in different directions. The contact contacted the dealer however they had not inspected the vehicle in person as of yet. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated that the windshield had fractured on the passenger’s side lower right. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and had the windshield replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000.
The problem has been recognized as a vehicle that is not meeting manufacturer specifications by the Subaru from Pembroke Pines. Shifting and harm is visible to frame and vehicle is having clonking and parts are touching.
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason
The windshield spontaneously cracked. The car has 3600 miles on it, has never been driven on a highway, and resides in a garage
A pebble hit the windshield while driving on the interstate highway which creating a roughly 12 inch crack starting in the upper passenger-side of the windshield. Within 24 hours, that crack has increased in length, now extending to the middle of the windshield. This has not been assessed by any repair facilities.
When driving on freeways, twice in the last 6 months, the windshield was struck by a small piece of gravel and cracked immediately. The first time there was an impact indent and a 6 inch crack, the second time there was a star shaped indent and an 11 inch crack. The windshield does not seem strong enough to deal with small gravel impacts. In both cases the crack spread overnight as the car heated and cooled. Both times I had the windshield replaced by a USAA-certified glass replacement shop and recalibrated by Subaru.
Second windshield cracked within a year, needs to be replaced.
I was informed that the windshields in certain models are spontaneously cracking two inches from the bottom of the windshield - a tiny rock caused a 14 inch crack which is unheard of. Clearly, the windshield is terrible and Subaru doesn’t want to take responsibility for their faulty windshields. When I check Google, I am not the only one.
Spontaneous windshield large crack while parked at worksite parking place on 06/07/2021. My safety was put at risk because I had to drive back home not knowing if the windshield would explode. I called the dealer (Herb Gordon Subaru in Silver Spring Maryland)right away (around 5:30 pm) and they gave me an appointment for repair with an $800 estimate. They did not inform me of Subaru issued with windshields. This is a recently purchased pre-owned Certified vehicle on 3/22/2020. Called the insurance company and advised me to go in person talk to the dealership which I will today 6/8/2021. No warnings nor I noticed any thing hitting the windshield.
A crack in my windshield appeared, seemingly over night, and is rapidly growing at an alarming rate. Because of the crack if I do not get this replaced soon my vision will be impeded. This is a problem the affects 2020 Subaru Imprezas and is a current class action law suit. It has not yet been inspected. And there were no prior warnings.

WE WERE HEADING EAST ON E WALNUT STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ABOUT TO CROSS THE S STATE STREET INTERSECTION. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES OR OBSTRUCTIONS IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE SUBARU ANTI-COLLISION BEGAN TO ALERT AND ABRUPTLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEHIND US HAD TO BRAKE ABRUPTLY BUT DID NOT HIT US. I BELIEVE THIS WAS DUE TO THE SUN BEING LOW ON THE HORIZON AND DIRECTLY IN THE CAMERA'S VIEW. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME THE ANTI-COLLISION HAS ENGAGED UNNECESSARILY. THE EVENTS PRIOR TO THIS, I WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 35 MPH IN MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WAS EXITING THE ROAD CAUSING THE ANTI-COLLISION BRAKING TO ENGAGE.
I GOT TO WORK AT 6AM AND THERE WAS NOTHING, GOT OUT AT 6PM AND SAW A BIG CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.

VEHICLE IS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD WITH NO DAMAGE BUT A LARGE CRACK HAS BEGUN SPREADING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE TOP EDGE IN THE LAST WEEK. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A ROCK STRIKE OR OTHER DAMAGE TO CAUSE THIS. IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELD ITSELF.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO KNOW REASON. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT APPROXIMATELY 7,000 MILES. IT WAS A WARM DAY. GENUINE SUBARU SUN SHIELD WAS PLACED ON DASH TO KEEP HEAT OUT. WHEN I GOT INTO THE VEHICLE AND REMOVED THE SUN SHIELD THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED.
DRIVING AT 40 MPH WITHOUT HITTING A BUMP, AND WITHOUT A LIT "HOOD AJAR" WARNING LIGHT, THE CAR'S HOOD FLEW OPEN SMASHING THE WINDSHIELD AND OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVER'S VIEW. THIS OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 10,022 MILES ON IT AND WAS LESS THAN 1 YEAR IN SERVICE. THE VEHICLE WAS ON A CITY STREET WITH NO OTHER TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER, UNDER DEALER'S PROTEST.
AFTER REPLACING A BRAND NEW OEM WINDSHIELD FROM THE FIRST TIME ONE MONTH LATER I HAD TWO SMALL ROCKS HIT MY WINDSHIELD AND CRACKED IT I AM FORCED TO REPLACE IT FOR A SECOND TIME. THIS IS VERY UNACCEPTABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME INOPERABLE AND FAILED TO RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER MONITORING SYSTEM TEMPORARILY STOPPED MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. MY FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. A TINY ROCK CAME UP AND MADE A 10 INCH CRACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE AND RETURNING, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE OF A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THE CRACK STARTED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS APPROXIMATELY AN INCH IN LENGTH. THE CONTACT CALLED THE GLASS COMPANY REFERRED TO BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPAIRED BUT NOT REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED ELK GROVE SUBARU (8581 LAGUNA GROVE DR, ELK GROVE, CA 95757, (888) 904-6612) AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE REPAIR THAT WAS PERFORMED WAS ADEQUATE AND THAT THE WINDSHIELD DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800.
FOR A NEW CAR THAT IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD,5000 MILE,THE CHASSIS PARTS FALL OFF DURING DRIVING,WHICH IS TOO DANGEROUS IN MOTION - ON A CITY STREET -TURNING
TODAY, 12/14/2020 AT 430AM I STARTED MY CAR LIKE NORMAL. CURRENTLY TEMPS BELOW 30 OVER NIGHT. VEHICLE HAS A REMOTE START SYSTEM. LET THE VEHICLE WARM UP, WENT OUTSIDE AND GOT IN THE VEHICLE. NOTICED A 12 INCH CRACK ON THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE, GOING TOWARDS THE MIDDLE. WASN'T THERE THE DAY BEFORE WHEN I PARKED IT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN EARLY SEPTEMBER, ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD. I'VE CHECKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, AND EVEN A LAWSUIT BEING FILED AGAINST SUBARU. CONTACTED MY SUBARU DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THEY TOLD ME IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY, BUT WILL CONTACT SUBARU. WITH HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND SAFETY ISSUE. SEEMS AS THOUGH A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE ON THIS. ESPECIALLY SINCE THE EYESIGHT SAFETY SYSTEM HAS TO BE RECALIBRATED IF THE WINDSHIELD HAS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT SERVICE ALONE IS $1000. OTHERS IN FORUMS/ONLINE HAVE STATED THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH MULTIPLE WINDSHIELDS. SAME ISSUE, WHERE THEY'LL WAKE UP THE NEXT DAY TO A CRACK ACROSS IT.
OUR WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE CAR OUT FOR LUNCH - NO DAMAGE. THEN HE WENT BACK OUT LATER THAT AFTERNOON AND THERE WAS A LARGE CRACK. EVEN IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIT THE CAR (WHICH WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE SO MINOR THAT HE DIDN'T NOTICE), IT SHOULD NOT HAVE IMMEDIATELY CRACKED LIKE THIS. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE.
THE WINDSHIELD ON MY 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA CRACKED BY ITSELF. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO THE WINDSHIELD. NO MARKS FROM ANYTHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. IT CRACKED SIMPLY WHILE SITTING PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY.
I RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA SPORT (BOUGHT AT 19 MI, CURRENT 1300 MI). VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, PARKED OVERNIGHT, DURING A COLD NIGHT. THE NEXT MORNING AFTER DEFROSTING, I NOTICED A SMALL, 2' CRACK ORIGINATING FROM THE LOWER CENTER WINDSHIELD. UPON INSPECTION, THERE WAS NO MARK OF CONTACT BY DEBRIS. OVER THE COURSE OF THE DAY, THE CRACK GREW UP TO 10 INCHES. CONTACT MADE TO DEALERSHIP ABOUT DEFECT.
WAS TRAVELING DOWN A HIGHWAY WHEN A VEHICLE CHANGED LANES, SPRAYING A LITTLE BIT OF SAND ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. SUDDENLY MY WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A 10 INCH "L" SHAPED CRACK, STARTING FROM THE LEFT EDGE OF THE WINDSHIELD (ABOUT HALF WAY UP) AND CONTINUED STRAIGHT ACROSS TOWARDS THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD.
MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND OFF, PARKED AT MY HOME. AS I WAS GETTING READY TO GO TO WORK THAT AFTERNOON, I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD. THIS CRACK WAS NOT THERE AFTER I FINISHED RUNNING AN ERRAND THAT MORNING. IT HAD TO HAVE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN USE AND STATIONARY. THERE IS NO CRACK OR CHIP TO INDICATE ANY IMPACT WITH ANY EXTERNAL OBJECT. THE CRACK ORIGINATES AT THE BOTTOM CORNER WHERE THE WINDSHIELD MEETS THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTO) THIS INDICATES TO ME, A FACTORY DEFECT. TO CLARIFY, I PLACED TAPE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD TO MARK THE END OF THE CRACK. THIS IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED AS A CHIP OR MARK OF IMPACT.
SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD AS BROKE VERY EASY. SEEING A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND THEY ARE BREAKING EASY. COST $987.00 TO REPAIR. HAVE ALL RECEIPTS WILL PROVIDE IF NEEDED.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS
A CRACK BEGAN AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD JUST AT THE MEETING OF THE ROOF. THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE INDENTION OF MARK OF A OBJECT IMPACTING THE WINDSHIELD. IT WAS OBSERVED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WHILE IN THE DRIVEWAY - NOT ON THE ROAD.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I LOOKED UP AND SAW THE CRACK START AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. I PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE AND IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE SITTING IN MY GARAGE. I DIDN'T HIT ANY ROCKS OR ENCOUNTER ANY UNUSUAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED
THE FIRST CRACK OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY MID JULY 2020, STARTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHILE DRIVING ON AN EXIT RAMP AT 40 MPH. MY PASSENGER NOTICE IT. I REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD ON 8/13/20. TODAY ( 10/5/20) THE WINDSHIELDED SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED AGAIN... HEARD A "POP" AS I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON A HIGHWAY AT 55MPH.
2200 MILES. WINDSHIELD CRACKED. 18 INCHES LONG. WHILE SITTING IN AN EMPTY PARKING LOT. CRACK STARTS FROM UNDER THE HOOD.
FRONT WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CRACK WAS FIRST NOTICED WHILE ON A CITY STREET WAITING FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT TO CHANGE.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED LESS THAN A MONTH OF HAVING MY CAR. WHILE PARKED THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED. IT CRACKED INSIDE FROM BEHIND THE MIRROR BEFORE SPLINTERING INTO TWO LARGE CIRCULAR CRACKS. IT CONTINUE TO CRACK HORIZONTALLY OVERNIGHT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTING UNDER THE HOOD, THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE BATTER HAD BEEN REPLACED AS THE PROBLEMS KILLED THE BATTERY. *AS
WITH 7,000 MILES ON IT, ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I'VE HEARD THIS IS VERY COMMON AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU FOR IT. THE PATTERN IN WHICH MINE CRACKED IS SIMILAR TO WHAT OTHERS HAVE POSTED IN IMPREZA OWNERS FORUMS WHICH TELLS ME IT'S LIKELY A DEFECT AND NOT A TYPICAL CRACK.
APPROXIMATELY A 24 INCH LONG CRACK IN MY FRONT WINDSHIELD
A CRACK APPEARED ON THE WINDSHIELD WHILE IT WAS PARKED SO THERE WAS NO IMPACT ON THE GLASS WHEN IT OCCURRED. *TR
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED IT ABOUT 2500 MILES. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A STONE CHIP HOWEVER I DIDN'T SEE ONE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND IT CRACKED IN THE MIDDLE HORIZONTALLY JUST BELOW THE REARVIEW MIRROR. THE TWO CRACKS WERE NOT CONNECTED INITIALLY. HOWEVER I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THEY DID CONNECT. THE CRACK GOES ALMOST ALL THE WAY ACROSS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER OF MY WINDSHIELD AT THIS POINT. *TR
I WAS SITTING IN MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY, HEARD A LOUD NOISE, AND A MOMENT LATER NOTICED THERE WAS A CRACK GOING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD TO ABOUT HALF WAY UP. THERE WAS NO CAUSE AND THIS WAS JUST A CLEAN CRACK.
THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2020 NEW FROM DEALER STOCK. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 2000 MILES ON IT AND EXPERIENCED SPONTANEOUS WINDSHIELD CRACKS WITH NO INDICATION IT IS FROM SOMETHING STRIKING THE WINDSHIELD. CRACKS WERE DISCOVERED IN THE MORNING AFTER THE CAR WAS SITTING ALL NIGHT. THE DAY AFTER NOTICING THE FIRST CRACK, A SECOND CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE FIRST, THE CAR WAS STATIONARY ALL NIGHT AND CRACK WAS DISCOVERED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.
BOUGHT THE CAR 12/21 FIRST WINDSHIELD CRACKED 1/28 WHILE SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY OVER THE WEEKEND. DEALER CLAIMS THERE WAS A CHIP CAUSED BY A ROCK BUT I THINK THE "CHIP" WAS CAUSED BY THE CRACKING OF THE WINDSHIELD DROPPED OFF AT DEALER 2/4 THE FIRST REPLACEMENT IS BROKEN TAKES A WEEK TO GET ANOTHER PICKED UP 2/11 $500 REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD CRACKED 2/20 - WHILE DRIVING. I DID NOT SEE OR HEAR ANYTHING IMPACT THE WINDSHIELD BUT I DID HERE THE GLASS CRACK. I FEEL THAT THESE WINDSHIELDS ARE UNREASONABLY FRAGILE AND SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 9 DAYS UNDER NORMAL USAGE.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE PARKED ON THE DRIVEWAY OUTSIDE MY HOUSE.
THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT A MONTH OLD, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN A TINY PIECE OF GRAVEL HIT MY WINDSHIELD RESULTING IN A CRACK ABOUT 10 INCHES IN LENGTH LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SEAT SECTION. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY HEATING ON AND IT WAS A SUNNY DAY
Component Failure Cascade Risk
Known patterns where one defect leads to more severe downstream failures
▸ Engine stalling at speed — fuel delivery failure can cause sudden loss of power in traffic or on highways
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 85 total NHTSA complaints filed over 8 years, with the worst year being 2021 (26 complaints).
The amber reliability line averaged 93/100 across the vehicle's life — relatively stable, with the lowest point of 86/100 in 2026.
Notably, despite 85 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.
Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2022, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
