Deferred Failure Risk
Components and defects approaching or past their known service milestones
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

0 The vehicle has a CVT transmission failure causing severe shuddering, jerking, and progressive loss of acceleration. Initially the vehicle would not exceed 20 mph, then worsened to 15 mph, then 10 mph, and now will not exceed 5 mph. The issue consistently occurs after the vehicle has been driven for more than approximately 2 minutes. There are no warning lights or alerts prior to the failure. The vehicle has completely lost power while driving and has stopped in the middle of the road with no ability to accelerate or restart the vehicle, creating an extremely dangerous situation and risk of collision. This appears to be a known and common defect with the CVT transmission on this vehicle model and year. The condition has progressively worsened and makes the vehicle unsafe to operate.
While merging onto [XXX] toward [XXX] , my 2016 Nissan Versa suffered a total loss of power while crossing active railroad tracks. The car stuttered and jerked before completely stalling and stopped responding. I was stranded in a high-traffic zone around [XXX] PM. I was worried that the vehicles coming behind me would not see my small car right away, as I was positioned past the railroad tracks and partway down the middle of the downhill slope. Because of the crest of the hill behind me, I lost sight of approaching traffic in my rearview mirror, which meant drivers coming over the top of the hill wouldn't see my stalled car until they were already descending toward me. I was fortunately able to get it restarted and drove it immediately to a Nissan dealership. A diagnostic scan confirmed Code P0746. The service technician told me the CVT assembly is internally destroyed ('toasted') and requires a full replacement. This catastrophic failure happened at only 50,484 miles, which is dangerously premature for a major transmission component. (note- i have a tech video that they sent me of there diagnostic just cant apply to the notes) INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

There is a shutter leaving 1st gear
The airbag warning light has come on and is flashing.Brought it in twice for it was in diagnosis mode the first time. History mode second time and two days later it is on again and flashing that is three times in one month! Nissan needs to have this problem fixed!
My Check Airbag light came on without any incident and has stayed on since January, 2025. I took it to a Nissan dealer and they told me they would charge me $4,000.00 to see if it could be fixed. Charged me $209.96 just to look at the car. Their report said AIRBAG SIDE MODULE LH FAULTY. I am very uneasy now driving around not knowing if my airbag will deploy if ever needed. It is now July, 2025 and I cannot afford putting out this kind of money for the airbag light. I am a [XXX] over [XXX]. Can anyone help? I own a 2016 Nissan Versa, and the air conditioning system has completely failed due to what I’ve been told is an evaporator core issue. After researching, I’ve found that this is a very common problem among Versa owners across multiple model years. The failure causes extreme heat in the cabin, especially in summer months, and creates a serious distraction and discomfort while driving. It becomes physically exhausting and mentally draining, even leading to dizziness or loss of focus — which I believe is a potential safety hazard. Nissan has not issued a recall or acknowledged the issue, despite the large number of owners reporting the same problem. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this as a potential pattern of manufacturer defect. The heat exposure is more than an inconvenience — it’s a daily health and safety risk. PLEASE look into this!!!!!
I own a 2016 Nissan Versa, and the air conditioning system has completely failed, making the car almost unbearable to drive in the Florida heat. I have already spent over $1,000 trying to fix the issue — including replacing multiple A/C components — and the air still doesn’t work. A mechanic told me the evaporator core needs to be replaced, but that repair alone is too expensive for me right now. Driving this car in extreme heat has made me physically miserable and mentally drained. I sweat constantly, feel dizzy, and can’t think straight while on the road. I’ve even started losing things and forgetting where I put things because I’m so overheated and foggy. I have to dress half-naked just to survive the drive, and it’s humiliating. I’ve noticed that many other Nissan Versa owners report the same A/C failure, especially in similar model years, which tells me this is not just my car — it’s a pattern. I believe this is a manufacturer defect that Nissan is ignoring, and I respectfully ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue. The heat exposure is more than an inconvenience — it’s a daily health and safety risk
A critical safety concern arising from the evaporator core defect in the Nissan Versa relates to the vehicle’s inability to properly control interior humidity and prevent window fogging during rainy conditions. When the evaporator core fails, the air conditioning system cannot effectively dehumidify the air inside the cabin. As a result, drivers are forced to keep the windows rolled up in rain or inclement weather to avoid water intrusion, which causes moisture to accumulate inside the vehicle. This excess moisture leads to rapid fogging and clouding of the windows, severely impairing driver visibility. Reduced visibility directly increases the risk of accidents, creating a hazardous driving environment. Unlike a simple comfort issue, this malfunction compromises a fundamental safety feature—clear vision—making it not only a nuisance but a critical safety hazard. Therefore, this defect justifies urgent recall action to prevent accidents and protect drivers, passengers, and other road users from potentially life-threatening situations caused by impaired visibility. What’s even more troubling is that I’ve found I am not alone in this. Numerous Nissan Versa owners have posted online about experiencing the same A/C failure and evaporator core issues. This is not an isolated case. This is a pattern — and that makes it a manufacturing problem. A vehicle that cannot regulate its internal temperature in hot weather presents a real and immediate health risk. It should qualify as a safety defect under federal standards. Nissan must be held accountable, and the individuals responsible for the design, production, or approval of this flawed system must take responsibility. Consumer Complaints: There have been reports from Nissan Versa owners experiencing fogging windows due to AC issues. For instance, a 2017 Nissan Versa owner reported that all windows were unclear and covered with a film and spots, creating a visibility hazard while driving . (More examples)…could not fit
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop at a traffic light, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive back to the residence, where the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the CVT transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair could not be covered because the vehicle was not previously serviced at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle lost motive power, and started jerking while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the RPM needled was fluctuating erratically. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Versa. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH with the cruise control activated, the contact approached oncoming traffic and depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle continued to surge forward without warning. The contact deactivated the cruise control; however, the failure persisted. The contact was able to pull off to the shoulder of the highway and placed the vehicle in park(P) while the RPM's continued to surge. Upon restart of the vehicle, the RPMs became extremely elevated, and the contact immediately shut off the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and reset the throttle sensor; the contact then restarted the vehicle and drove the vehicle home without further issues. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 176,000.
"Leaking injectors causing cylinder wall wash, resulting in low compression." Per Nissan of Chattanooga East. Stated they have seen this before and can be a "common" malfunction. Puts others and self at risk of catastrophic engine malfunction and fuel injector malfunction. Car fire, an engine explosion, or simply breaking down in the middle of the interstate, "Repair" occurred and sent home, 2 times. Subsequent followup revealed critical malfunction and requirement to replace engine and necessary components.
Transmission failure
A while ago my airbag light began flashing, we reset it a few times and it would come back after a week or two sometimes longer, either a flashing or solid light, it felt almost random. No codes came up when we had it ran, and then we took it to the dealership for inspection. It is the back of my driver seat, the airbag for the driver side back seat. I don’t know what the qualified number of complaints is, but please at least look into this. The most complaints this car has is something to do with the airbags. I’ve also had a similar ac/belt problem that was mentioned by the guy from Texas. He said the ac compressor caused a belt failure, mine was the other way around, my belt was squeaking for a while, had it replaced- month later my ac compressor gave out due to the belt operating at full capacity for the first time in a long time. It is available for further inspection. An airbag is plainly a safety risk, not to mention the part is “on extreme back order”, which leads me to believe that this a bigger problem then what is being reported here. The problem was confirmed by the dealership It has only been inspected by the Nissan dealership As also stated above, there were warning lights about its failure. It’s late, I apologize but I’m not proof reading this. Please look into it, please, it’s a very expensive repair that I won’t be able to afford for a long time, and I’m concerned about my back passengers..
My engine light has always been on in my car contacted the dealership and they never cared to take care of the situation. My car has a problem with picking up speed and turning corners. Took it to a mechanic and said it’s my transmission and that it was never good especially the cvt transmission in my 2016 Nisan versa that it was recalled and no one contacted me. I would like it fixed I’m a single parent and I need my car
Since buying car used last summer ive have numerous scares for the car stalling jerking and shutting off while driving or slowing down and taking off. I drove over train tracks on my way home and the car jerked stalled and died luckily i made it over the tracks and there was no train. Had a mechanic look at it and said the Cvt transmission more than likely blame for this problem. After researching more this particular make model and year had numerous of the same complaints and saftey is my main concern here. Thanks
Fuel gauge is always stuck to full. I have to rely on the gas pump to know that I have full tank of gas. Luckily I only drive it for short distances. It will not be safe to drive interstate.
Hood flew up while driving and smashes into my windshield

Just got the car from someone, and the air bag light comes up and stays on all the time the engine starts, trying all the ways to reset the light and not working, I found online that many same car owners has the same problem and there is no recall from the manufacturer, Nissan cars has a lot of air bags problems., my car has no collision and has only 62000 miles. Going to a dealer to ask about the price to fix and was told about more than a thousand dollars and not guaranteered'
The transmission completely went on my vehicle at 87,015 miles. I regularly drive on a major highway and had this happened while on the highway it could have been catastrophic as speeds generally exceed 70MPH on this road. The problem has been confirmed by my dealer. Nissan will not back the repair as I am 3,015 miles out of warranty. There were no warning lights prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Versa. The contact stated upon noticing that the glass of the rear passenger side brake light bulb was dark, he disassembled the part and he discovered that the plate, the brake light system, and circuit were severely corroded, and water had leaked inside the housing. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take vehicle to their location for diagnostic testing however, he would be responsible for the cost of diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 6,500.
My vehicle stops running whenever I turn on heater or A/C. When either is turned on, dashboard lights up with four or five other lights like battery, P/S, Brake, Temp, and other. When A/C or heater is not turned on, then my car is running. It looks like my vehicle may be defective in some way. I bought it only last year and I don’t understand why this particular control for heater or A/C is causing the problems. I believe some parts may be sub-standard and they may will cause some problems one day.
EVERY SINGLE DAY MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY MY ABS LIGHT COMES ON CARS TRANSMISSION JERKS AROUND OR WHATEVER IT IS. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART TO DRIVE AGAIN. I MAY HAVE TO DO THAT A FEW TIMES IN A MILE. I THINK IT'S A SAFETY CONCERN. IT COULD BE IN MOTION OR STOPPED CAR WANTS TO LUNGE FORWARD
VEHICLE SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY WHILE IN MOTION REGARDLESS OF SPEED. I'VE HAD IT SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING 15MPH ON THE STREET AS WELL AS WHEN I'VE BEEN GOING 60+MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. BASED OFF OF OTHER FINDINGS AND LAWSUITS, I'VE BEGAN TO SUSPECT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED, AND THEY'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GIVE ME AN ANSWER. I'VE GOTTEN MY WARRANTY EXTENDED BY THEM, BUT THAT'S IT.
SO I'M PROBLEMS WITH SPEED AND THE TRANSMISSION
CAR BOGGING DOWN WON'T ACCELERATE WHEN NEEDED JERKING AROUND NISSAN HAD A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM FOR THIS AND IS REFUSING TO FIX THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 NISSAN VERSA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE UP A HILL, THE VEHICLE STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. KAMAAINA NISSAN (471 KALANIANAOLE AVE, HILO, HI 96720) WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
FRONT CONTROL ARM BUSHING FAILURE
I PULLED IN TO A PARKING SPOT I WAS IN PARK. NEXT TO A 4X4 DIESEL PICKUP, HE STARTED TO BACK UP AND TURNED HIS WHEELS TO WERE HE WAS GOING TO RUN ME OVER I HELD THE HORN DOWN HE DID NOT HEAR IT AND RAN ME OVER FROM THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TO THE BACK DOOR. HE STOPPED WHEN HE REALIZED HE WAS ON TOP OF MY CAR.
1) I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY US 35 GOING WEST BOUND WHERE MY REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT RIGHT BEFORE THE 75 OVERPASS. 2) PASSENGER REAR TIRE BLEW OUT. A 2 INCH ABRASION ON THE SIDE WALL. 3) I BOUGHT A NEW TIRE AND REPAIRED MY RIM.
LOST CONSCIOUSNESS DUE TO PREVIOUSLY UNDIAGNOSED MEDICAL ISSUE, CAR WAS IN 2ND GEAR AND HIT TELEPHONE POLE. CAR WAS TOTALED AND I WAS INJURED FROM THE IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS PRESUMABLY GOING AS FAST AS POSSIBLE IN 2ND GEAR AS MY FOOT WAS ON THE PEDAL WHEN I LOST CONSCIOUSNESS.
ON APPROXIMATED ON FEBRUARY 02, 2020 ON THE NORTH BOUND 215 FWY EXISTING FWY OFF RAMP ON NEWPORT BLVD IN MENIFEE CA, WHEN MY 2016 NISSAN VERSA STALL, IT'S ON DRIVE AND NOT MOVING. NO WARNING SIGNS OF ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES, NO ENGINE LIGHT ON. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BUT THE RPM IS MOVING UP AND DOWN. I PULLED OVER TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND CALLED MY ROADSIDE ASSISTANT THROUGH GEICO. THE NEXT DAY I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO PEDDER NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE DEPT RETURN MY CALL AND NOTIFIED ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS OUT ON A LESS THAN FOUR YEARS OLD VEHICLES THAT I PURCHASED BRAND NEW FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP & NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIR HAVE BOTH HAVE GIVEN ME THE RUNS AROUND. I SEE THERE BULLETIN FOR MY VEHICLE MODEL AND YEAR. I NEED ASSISTANCE, PLEASE.
I HAD ISSUES WITH THE GEARS THAT INITIALLY THE ISSUE SHOWED UP AS A PROBLEM WITH AC/HEATER NOT WORKING PROPERLY, BUT WHEN THE MECHANIC EXAMINED THE ISSUE, IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH GEARS. SOON AFTER THAT, MY CAR BEGAN TO HESITATE WHILE DRIVING AND THEN BEGAN TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING BURNT. THE CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED, I DID REGULAR MAINTENANCE AS INSTRUCTED IN THE MANUAL, BUT IT WAS AROUND 60,000 MILEAGE WHEN ISSUES BEGAN TO SHOW UP AND AROUND 90,000 WHEN IT BEGAN HESITATING AND SMELLING. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON CITY STREETS BECAUSE IT WILL NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY AND SO I CANNOT DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED NISSAN WHILE I HAD MILEAGE IN THE RANGE OF 80K-84K TO SEE IF THEY WILL EXAMINE MY CVT, GIVEN THE CURRENT LAWSUIT, FREE OF CHARGE. BUT THEY STATED THAT THE LAWSUIT HASN'T BEEN SETTLED YET AND THAT BY THE TIME IT IS, I WILL LIKELY BE OVER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.
WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT WHEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLED OUT. RE STARTED IT THEN IT WAS SLUGGISH AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AGAIN I FELT A QUICK THUNK LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. FINALLY GOT IT HOME WHEN PUT IT ON CODE READER IT CAME UP WITH CODE P0705 TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF RECALL FOR THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT WHEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED. NOW I AM STUCK HAVING TO PAY AROUND $2000 TO GET MY CAR FIXED.
WHEN I DRIVE IN THE WINTER TIME AND APPLY THE BRAKES ON A SLIPPERY ROAD THE CAR DOESN'T WANT TO STOP NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRY TO USE THE BRAKES. INSTEAD, THE BRAKES POP AND CLICK UNTIL MY CAR SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN. I ENDED UP SLIDING LITERALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. OTHER DRIVERS WERE AWARE MY CAR WAS HAVING TROUBLE STOPPING AND ALLOWED ME TO PROCEED. THAT HAPPENED IN THE 1ST TIME IN DECEMBER 2017. THE FOLLOWING YEAR I HAD MY BRAKES CHECK AND THE SERVICE STATION CLAIMED THE COULDN'T FIND ANY THING WRONG WITH THEM. I HAD MY BRAKES SERVICED BEFORE THE WINTER OF 2018. MY BRAKES STILL DO THE EXACT SAME THING ALL WINTER LONG ON THE SLIPPERY STREETS. ALSO I'M HAVING TROUBLE TRYING TO TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE IT'S LOCKED. WHEN I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET THE CAR UP AND RUNNING A LITTLE WHILE LATER IT WANTS TO STALL. THIS JUST HAPPENED THE LAST 2 DAYS. I'M GOING TO GET THAT SERVICED ASAP. THAT DAY WAS NOVEMBER 23, 2019. THIS VEHICLE HAS SEVERAL ISSUES AND IT'S ONLY 3 YRS OLD. THAT'S NOT A GOOD SIGN.
PURCHASED A 2016 NISSAN VERSA (BRAND NEW) CAR RAN WELL UNTIL 11/18/19. WHEN I LEFT WORK, STARTED CAR AS USUAL AND HEADED HOME. PASSED A ROUNDABOUT ALONG WITH SOME FREEWAY DRIVING. WHILE ON ROBERTS RD. AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT (WAITING FOR RIGHT AWAY) CAR SEEMED FINE, BUT ONCE I APPLIED THE GAS TO CROSS THE INTERSECTION ON A GREEN LIGHT. NOTHING HAPPENED. ALL THE DUMMY LIGHTS CAME ON, RADIO AND HEAT WAS STILL WORKING BUT CAR SHUT DOWN AT RUSH HOUR. I COULD NOT MOVE. I CALLED FOR THE POLICE TO HELP THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN SENT TO DEALERS ABOUT THIS ISSUE OF CARS STALLING. WHY WAS I NOT MADE AWARE AND SOLD A LEMON. I THANK GOD THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY OR ROUNDABOUT. THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT MY HUNCH TOLD ME IT'S A LEMON AND NOT TO KEEP IT. I NOW OWN A 2020 TOYOTA COROLLA. I DON'T WANT ANYONE TO GO THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH, VERY SCARY. FYI IF YOU GOGGLE NISSAN CARS STALLING THERE IS A NEWS STORY FROM KTNV CHANNEL 13 OUT OF NEVADA.
THE CAR SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND I HAD TO RESTART IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 NISSAN VERSA EQUIPPED WITH NEXEN NPRZ AH5 TIRES, SIZE: 185/65R15 (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION FROM THE BELT. VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING JERKS CAR WHEN GETTING SPEED WHEN GOING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CAR WANDERS BACK AND FORTH HARD TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD , CLUNKING NOISE COMES FROM CVT TRANSMISSION WHEN CHANGING GEARS ALSO PRODUCES SEVERE VIBRATIONS WHEN CAR IS IN MOTION GETTING WORSE AND WORSE HAVE BEEN HAVING THESE PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED CAR 1 YEAR AGO AT 27,000 MILES NOW HAVE 70,000 MILES AND CAR IS NOT VERY SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD I HAVE REPLACED STRUTS HUB BEARINGS CONTROL ARMS AND TIE ROD ENDS ALONG WITH MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS BUT THE PROBLEM KEEPS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE EVERY DAY. TOOK IT TO LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE HERTZ CAR RENTAL PLACE THAT SOLD IT TO ME WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM TOOK IT TWICE TO PEP BOYS BUT I WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG I'VE SPENT ABOUT A 1,000 DOLLARS IN PARTS TO TRY AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT STILL NO LUCK
MY CAR WAS IN PARK , WHEN I GOT IN AND SHUT DRIVER'S DOOR THE AIRBAGS EXPLODED HURTING MY EYES AND NECK. STILL DEALING WITH NISSAN FOR 18 MONTHS AND STILL NOT EVEN LOOKED AT
TRYING TO LEAVE FOR WORK, TURN ON MY CAR AND THEN THERE WAS A SQUEAL (LIKE A BELT) AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, NOT THE CAR (BATTERY IS WORKING). I DO THIS ABOUT THREE TIMES TO SEE IF MAYBE THE GAS NEEDED TO BE PRESSED OR IF THE CAR NEEDED TO BE IN GEAR, SAME THING HAPPENED. I CALL MY FATHER FOR ADVISE, AND I WANTED HIM TO HEAR THE NOISE BEFORE THE SHUT OFF, SO I TURN OFF THE RADIO, AC, EVERYTHING. THEN THE CAR STARTS AND STAYS ON. TURNS OUT THAT IF I HAD THE FAN GOING IT WAS SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. I TAKE IT TO SISK NISSAN AND THEY INSPECT, SAY FIRST THAT ITS THE CONDENSER AND AFTER THE PART IS ORDERED AND THE CAR TAKEN APART THEY SAY THAT THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM IS CONTAMINATED. THE COMPRESSOR HAD STOPPED WORKING. ONE WEEK WITHOUT AC AND ONE WEEK IN THE SHOP TO REPLACE THE WHOLE AC SYSTEM.
ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 5TH OF 2018 WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY HOME THE VEHICLE QUIT ACCELERATING. WE LIMPED THE VEHICLE HOME WHERE A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP INSPECTED THE TRANSMISSION. IT WAS APPARENT THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THE QUOTE WE RECEIVED WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS "SHOT". THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PURCHASED USED AND WAS ONLY OWNED ABOUT 16 MONTHS.
I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND IN A CRASH AND WAS KNOCKED INTO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. SUFFERED MILD HEAD INJURY. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE INJURY COULD HAVE BEEN WORST. *JB
THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE CONTINENTAL CONTIPROCONTACT P185/65 R15 TIRE EXPLODED WHILE PARKED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF, AND HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN LESS THAN TEN MILES PRIOR TO THE EXPLOSION. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 65 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND IT WAS RAINING, SO HEAT WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE TIRE DOT # IS P5FP3YP2715. THE TIRES THEMSELVES ARE THREE YEARS OLD AND HAVE 54,710 MILES ON THEM.
CAR SHUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AND IT'S BECOMING UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT LOOSE SPEED THEN WAS UNABLE TO GET IT OUT OF GEER. WAS TOLD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR USE AS IS, NO GURANTEE. I HAVE NO MONEY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION WILL COST ME OVER $2000??????????????
MY VECHICLE STARTE TO CUT OUT ON ME AFTER 37000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING FROM JURY DUTY IN THE AFTERNOON IN TRAFFIC AND IT JUST STALLED OUT ON ME. THE ENGINE CUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO CRANK IT AGAIN AND MOVED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. I WAITED 45 MINUTES. I DID NOT TURN THE AIR CONDITION ON. IT CRANKED AND I WENT HOME. A WEEK LATER IT DID THE SAME THING BUT IT WOULD NOT CRANK AGAIN. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC SHOP. HE SAID IT WAS THE COMPRESSOR. HE REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR AND I PICKED IT UP AGAIN AND IN A FEW DAYS LATER IT CUT OFF ON ME AND MY FAMILY AGAIN. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL BOX. HE REPLACED IT AND IT WAS RUNNING AGAIN.HOWEVER IN 2 DAYS IT TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING AGAIN.THIS IS A RELATIVELY NEW VEHICLE. IT ONLY HAS 38K MILES ON IT. NOW IT WILL NOT DRIVE. I AM STUCK WITH A CAR NOTE AND NO CAR TO DRIVE.
TAKATA RECALL - MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ACCIDENTS. I HAVEN'T HAD THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS YET AND REALLY NEED TO GET THIS LOOKED AT. I WOKE UP ONE MORNING TO TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL AND SOON AS I CRUNK UP THE CAR THE LIGHT WAS FLAKING AND WON'T GO OFF.

THE NISSAN VERSA 2016 HAS A FAULTY BRAKE SYSTEM. I WAS IN MOTION DRIVING WITH ONGOING TRAFFIC I SAW THE TRAFFIC STOPPED I PRESSED THE BRAKES AND KEPT PRESSING BRAKES AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP. I COULD NOT GO LEFT OR RIGHT BECAUSE CARS WERE IN BOTH LANES. I HIT CAR IN FRONT. THE OFFICER VERIFIED THAT THE CAR WAS IN SPEED MOTION WITH NO SCREECHES OR MARK IN STREET. THE OFFICER STATED THAT MY CAR WAS IN NORMAL SPEED MOTION. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND MY SISTER AND I WERE INJURED. THE CAR I HIT PASSENGERS WAS OK. THIS ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY BRAKE FAILURE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE NISSAN CORPORATION.
"TAKATA RECALL" BACK IN MARCH 17 I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY BY DIA THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I WAS FORCE TO RUN INTO THE BACK OF A LADY IN ANOTHER LANE. MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY
RECEIVED WRITTEN NOTIFICATION OF AIRBAG RECALL NISSAN VERSA SV ALSO OWNED A 2016 VERSA THAT WAS WRECKED

BRAKE ISSUES REPORTED NOT A GOOD VEHICLE TO HAVE REPAIRED SEVERAL TIME- BOUGHT BRAND NEW - STILL SUFFERING FROM MULTIPLE VISITS TO DEALERSHIP AND COMPANY
THE SEATBELT WAS ABLE TO EASILY BECOME DISENGATED BY HARDLY TOUCHING THE RELEASE. THERE WAS AN AUTO ACCIDENT THAT RESULTED IN THE PARALYSIS AND EVENTUAL DEATH OF THE DRIVER. THE DRIVER WAS T-BONED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A GREEN LIGHT AT THE INTERSECTION. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS CITED FOR EXCESSIVE SPEED AND FAILURE TO KEEP A PROPER LOOKOUT. IT IS OUR BELIEF THAT HIS FOREARM BRUSHED THE RELEASE ON THE SEATBELT AND CAUSED THE SEATBELT TO DISCHARGE AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. I HAVE A VIDEO BETTER CONVEYING THIS, BUT IT IS COMPRISES TOO MUCH DATA TO UPLOAD ON THIS FORM. UPDATED 10/19/17 *BF UPDATED 7/26/18*JB .. *TR
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS TRAVELING ON US 77 IN VIRGINA WHEN THE TRAFFIC CAN TO A STOP DUE TO A MERGING ARROW. I MERGED AND STOP. I WAS REAR ENDED BY THE CAR BEHIND ME AS IT DID NOT STOP. MY CAR HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THEN ROLLED OVER. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ANYWHERE IN THE CAR. I BELIEVE THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENABLED AFTER HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I BELIEVE THE SIDE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENABLED WHEN THE CAR FLIPPED OVER. *BF *CN *JS *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE STEERED INTO A CURB TO STOP IT BEFORE IT ENTERED ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE ALSO HESITATES UPON TURNING WHICH IS A HAZARD WHILE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE PHONE WHILE IT WAS BEING CHARGED IN THE VEHICLE. THE PHONE WAS MELTED. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A NEW PHONE AND PORTABLE CHARGER, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000.
I HAVE TAKEN MY BRAND NEW NISSAN TO THE DEALER 6 TIMES NOW. BREAKS KEEP MAKING A NOISE LIKE A TAPPING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. THE LAST TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND PICKED IT UP AFTER A WEEK THE BREAKS ARE SCREECHING TO THE POINT WHERE I CANNOT DRIVE. NISSAN DEALER AND NISSAN FACTORY ARE CLAIMING THIS IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.
I HAVE A 2016 NISSAN VERSA WITH APPROX 12,000 MILES AND HAVE CONSTANT ISSUES WITH THE STEERING OF THIS VEHICLE. THE CAR VEERS OFF AND HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN FREQUENTLY AND FEELS AS IF IT IS BEING PULLED BY WIND. THIS IS UNSAFE AND CAUSES CONTROLLING THE CAR TO BE A PROBLEM. THIS BEGAN AT FIRST IN EARLY 2017 AND IS NOW A REGULAR OCCURANCE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE EMITTING FROM THE LOWER CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD FRACTURED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT STRUCK BY ANY DEBRIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A TWO WAY STREET TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AN HOUR THE BRAKES WERE PRESSED AND THEN PUMPED AND DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE NISSAN SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE NISSAN HAS BEEN DEEMED TOTALED . THE 2016 NISSAN VERSA HAD APPROXIMATELY 9000 MILES AND HAD A BREAK ASSIST FEATURE AND ABS BREAKS. THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP.
EVERYTHING TIME I STOP AND PARK THE CAR TO DO A SHORT ERRAND AND THEN AFTER GETTING BACK IN THE CAR, I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IT WON'T TURN. I HAVE TO WIGGLED THE KEY IN THE STEERING WHEEL FOR AT LEAST FIVE (5) MINUTES OR MORE. IT IS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENT AND OFTEN. I AM VERY CONCERNED.
I HAVE HAD A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE CAR WHEN FILLING IT WITH GASOLINE. THE GAS NOZZLE HAS BEEN EJECTED FROM THE CAR DURING FILLING. TYPICALLY THE GASOLINE PUMP WILL STOP DISPENSING GASOLINE WHEN THE NOZZLE IS EJECTED. HOWEVER, THERE WAS ONE INCIDENT WHEN THE NOZZLE CONTINUED DISPENSING GASOLINE WHILE THE NOZZLE WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND. I HAD TO QUICKLY PICK UP THE NOZZLE AND TURN IT OFF. THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR EVERY TIME I FILL THE CAR WITH GASOLINE, BUT I FEEL THAT THERE IS A RECURRING ISSUES HERE AND IT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BECAUSE OF THE RISK AND HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH SPILLED GASOLINE.
AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING HEAD ON COLLISION DRIVING ABOUT 70MPH ON THE 1604 HWY ANIMAL RAN ACROSS I SWERVED OUT OF THE WAY TO AVOID HITTING IT BUT LOST CONTROL ON THE GRASS AND WENT HEAD ON INTO A POLE AS I TRIED TO STEER THE CAR FROM HITTING I SPINNED OUT OF CONTROL AFTER THE IMPACT THEN LANDED ON THE ACCESS ROAD. FRONT OF VEHICLE GOT PUSHED IN BUT NOT ONE AIR BAG DEPLOYED DURING THE WHOLE INCIDENT NISSANS EXCUSE IS I DIDN'T HIT THE CAR CORRECTLY WHICH I'M NOT QUITE SURE WHAT WOULD BE THE CORRECT WAY TO CRASH A VEHICLE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
BOUGHT THE 2016 VEHICLE OCTOBER 15, 2015. RIGHT AWAY NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFT NOT MOVING SMOOTHLY FROM GEAR TO GEAR. THE BRAKES GROANING/WHINING AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LOOSENING. CAR DRIFTING/PULLING RIGHT ON HIGHWAYS AND LEFT ON STREETS. RATTLING FROM UNDER CAR CARRIAGE. POPPING AND SQUEAKING ON RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. THE A/C STRAINING AND NOT COOLING CAR CABIN AS IT SHOULD AND THE A/C INTERIOR SWITCH NOT ENGAGING OR STAYING ENGAGED WHEN PUSHED. THUMPING/CLICKING SOUND HEARD WHEN BRAKING. AFTER NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS MADE THE DEALERSHIP VERIFIED ALL OF MY COMPLAINTS BUT NOT IN A TIMELY MANNER. FIRST COMPLAINT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED ON OCTOBER 28, 2015 BUT CLAIMED THERE WASN'T ANY ABNORMALITIES FOUND. ON DECEMBER 8, 2015, MARCH 16, 2016, APRIL 22, 2016, AUGUST 17, 2016 AND AUGUST 23, 2016 REPAIRS WERE REPEATEDLY MADE CONSISTING OF REPLACING GEAR SHIFT KNOB, ENTIRE GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY, SANDING ROTORS, REPLACING BRAKE PADS, REPLACING ENTIRE BRAKE ASSEMBLY AND TIGHTENING EMERGENCY BRAKE. BUT AS TO DATE PROBLEMS STILL EXIST. ON FEBRUARY 9, 2016 REPAIR TO THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING. ON APRIL 5, 2016 REPAIR TO LOWER REAR EXHAUST SHIELD REMOUNTED. ON MAY 31, 2016 DOOR CHECK STRAPS RE-SECURED. ON JUNE 23, 2016 FAULTY BMC SWITCH REPLACED BUT PROBLEM WITH A/C STILL NOT RESOLVED AND A SECOND PROBLEM HAS ARISEN. A/C TURNS ON WHEN DEFROSTER IS ENGAGED. ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2016 PROBLEM WITH BOTH FRONT INNER CV JOINTS AND AXLES ACKNOWLEDGED BUT PART ON BACK ORDER. REPAIRS MADE ON OCTOBER 27, 2016 IN ANOTHER STATE. PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED. SOUND STILL HEARD WHEN DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS, CRACKS OR SLIGHT BUMPS ON STREETS OR HIGHWAYS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A VEHICLE THAT RAN THROUGH A RED LIGHT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE TOWED AT A LATER DATE BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,649.
NISSAN VERSA, ALWAYS HAD ISSUES WITH GAS GAUGE FLUCTUATING. IGAUGE READ 79 MILES IN DRIVEWAY, I PULLED OUT OF DRIVEWAY INTO MAIN ROAD AND WENT ABOUT 25 FEET, HAS GAUGE STARTED FLASHING. TOLD GRANDSON I HAD TO GO TO GAS STATION BEFORE TAKING HIM TO SCHOOL. WE DROVE ABOUT 1/4 MILE AND HEARD POP UNDER HOOD, CAR JERKED REALLY HARD TO RIGHT. I HAD NO CONTROL AND HIT MAIL BOX, CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD ALONG DITCH. FINALLY COME TO STOP WITH WINDSHIELD BUSTED AND FRONT BUMPER AND UNDERCARRIAGE BADLEY DAMAGED. AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, POLICE WERE CALLED AND CAR WAS TOWED.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2016 NISSAN VERSA AND WHEN I DRIVE IT, IT VEERS TO THE LEFT WHICH IS A MATTER OF SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY.. TOOK IT IN TO SERVICE DEPT AND THEY DID AN ALIGNMENT BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENING...I AM RE-THINKING MY DECISION ABOUT THIS CAR BECAUSE I REFUSED TO DRIVE A UNSAFE VEHICLE.
DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD HEARD A POP, CAR SUDDEN PULL RIGHT FRONT END HITTING A DITCH ON THE SIDE OF ROAD FRONT END SLIDING DOWN IN THE DITCH COMING TO A STOP IN A VERTICAL POSITION. THE AIR BAG DIDN'T DEPLOY.
I RENTED A NISSAN VERSA AND WAS DRIVING AT DUSK. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT I HAD NOT TURNED ON THE DRIVING LIGHTS UNTIL IT WAS QUITE DARK. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS LOOK LIKE YOU WOULD EXPECT WITH THE LIGHTS ON... I.E., THE INTERIOR IS FULLY LIT UP. THE DRIVING INSTRUMENTS ARE LIT UP. EVERYTHING LOOKS NORMAL FOR NIGHTTIME DRIVING.... EXCEPT THAT WHEN I PULLED OVER, I SEE THAT THE EXTERIOR HAS NO LIGHTS ON WHATSOEVER. TO BE CLEAR, THE LIGHTS WERE WORKING FINE. IF YOU TURN THEM ON, THEY COME ON. BUT IT'S VERY DANGEROUS THAT THE CAR SOMEHOW ALWAYS HAS THE INTERIOR LIGHTED, OR PERHAPS IT HAPPENS WITH A LIGHT SENSOR, LEADING YOU TO NOT REALIZE YOU HAVE NOT TURNED ON THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 NISSAN VERSA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED HEAD ON INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM BY AMBULANCE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,700. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, FOOT SLIPPED BETWEEN THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDAL. THE GAS PEDAL FLIPPED UP UPON TRYING TO ADJUST THE FOOT CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPIN STRIKING A ANOTHER VEHICLE. 10 MINUTES LATER THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, BEFORE STRIKING THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED INJURIES TO THE HEAD, LEG, KNEE, BREAST AND RIBS. *JS
ACCELERATION DELAY WITH MY RECENTLY PURCHASED 2016 NISSAN VERSA NOTE. PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS THE INITIAL PRESSING OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAS A DELAYED RESPONSE, SOMETIMES FOR 3 SECONDS OR MORE. TO COMPENSATE FOR THE DELAY I PRESS HEAVY ON THE PEDAL RESULTING IN A SUDDEN SURGE WHEN IT FINALLY KICKS IN. I TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO PRESENT A DANGER WHEN DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 NISSAN VERSA EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE, TIRE LINE: ECOPIA, AND TIRE SIZE: 195/55R16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A BUBBLE ON THE SIDE WALL OF THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND MILEAGE OF THE TIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS 3,069. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 79 total NHTSA complaints filed over 11 years, with the worst year being 2017 (16 complaints, including 7 crash reports).
The amber reliability line shows an improving trend — scores have risen from the earlier years toward 96/100 more recently, suggesting the most serious issues are older and may have been addressed through repairs or recalls.
Notably, despite 79 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.
Red dots on the amber line flag 4 years (2016, 2017, 2018, 2020) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
Manufacturer Extended Warranties & Special Coverage
1 known program match this vehicle — verify current eligibility with dealer using your VIN
Nissan's Jatco continuously variable transmissions (CVT) suffer from overheating, shuddering, sudden deceleration, and premature failure. Nissan extended the CVT warranty following class action lawsuits. In some cases the warranty was extended further to 84,000 miles for documented repeat-failure vehicles. A class action settlement (Ponzio v. Nissan) provided additional reimbursement rights.
Coverage eligibility depends on your VIN, original sale date, and current mileage. Always verify with an authorized dealer or manufacturer customer service — programs may have been updated since this database was compiled.
