ODI #11727163ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My dashboard, specifically the area with my odometer and gas mileage reader, has been flickering and scrambling numbers. This seems to be an issue with many 3rd generation Honda Fit models (2015-2020). This issue makes traveling unsafe as I am unable to see what my odometer is reading and likewise cannot predict when I will need to add gas. The only solution that was offered by my Honda dealership was to replace the entire dash electrical component for $1700 which is not acceptable for an issue that is well know to Honda.

This 2020 Honda Fit has experienced a "multipurpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure" that will cost $2,000 to repair. Neither Honda nor my auto dealership will help me and insist it isn't under any kind of warranty or covered by a recall.

My 2020 Honda Fit, with16,300 miles, has the same steering defect as other recalled Honda models. This has been confirmed by Honda service. The steering wheel will suddenly stick and make a grinding and or hissing sound, especially on turns. The car becomes difficult to steer. It is frightening and dangerous. Honda wants $1800 to repair the defect because it is not presently listed on recall. I reported this problem to local mechanics before any Honda recall was made. Then recall appeared on line, and the Fit was included. Now, it is claimed it is not. Are they not recalling because they no longer manufacture this model? This is a hazardous, manufacturer's defect. I need my car to be made safe, and not at my expense.

Fuel gauge on my 2020 Honda Fit LX sometimes goes blank or weird graphics under colder temperatures at start up. Doesn't seem to do it all time though ,especially in warmer weather that I've seen. Seems like when the car warms up, it returns to normal. Have around 42000 miles on it now. I haven't taken it in to my Honda dealer yet for inspection. I believe it maybe a circuit board behind the dashboard after watching a You tube video of someone pulling his out and soldering a spot behind the gauge. He seemed to fix it. Puts the driver at risk if he doesn't know if he has gas in the car! No warnings have ever came on either. Other owners have complained on this to. My car has never been in a wreck either. Hardly drive it. Past my warranty to.

-The multi-purpose camera sensor system on my 2020 Honda Fit EX Hatchback has malfunctioned, disabling critical safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS), and Collision Braking Warning System (CBWS). -The failure of these systems creates significant safety risks. Without ACC, the vehicle cannot maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. The LKAS no longer provides steering assistance to help stay in the lane, and the CBWS cannot detect or warn of potential collisions. These malfunctions increase the likelihood of accidents, especially during highway driving or in heavy traffic. -The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by Tony Honda in HI during an inspection on [XXX]. -My 2020 Honda Fit EX Hatchback has been inspected by an authorized dealer/service center, which diagnosed a failure in the multipurpose camera. This failure has disabled critical safety features, creating a potential safety risk. The vehicle has less than 21,000 miles and has been well maintained. However, the manufacturer has not offered a resolution, and the vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or other parties. Despite the low mileage and the importance of this system, I was informed that I must pay the full repair cost of $3,000 and other companies I visited stated that it can only be fixed by Honda. I believe this issue could indicate a defect and request an investigation into whether other Honda Fit owners are experiencing the same problem. -Before the failure, warning messages appeared on the dashboard, including alerts for ACC, LKAS, and CBWS system malfunctions. These warnings initially appeared for a week or so and became more frequent over time. I believe this issue may be a design or manufacturing defect affecting other vehicles of the same make and model. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter to determine if it represents a broader safety concern. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Fuel gauge and odometer display glitches until completely blank whenever outside temperature reaches below 49°F. This has been an ongoing issue since I originally purchased/leased my vehicle in 2020. This is a dangerous glitch, because I cannot tell how much fuel I have left before I hit empty. The display will flash on/off until the driver sees almost a computer or alien language, then the display simply turns blank completely until temperature reaches above 49°F.

Over the summer, vehicle lit up all warning lights. Like many others was informed the system needed deep carbon cleaning. While driving multiple error lights came on. I took my car in and they said it was carbon build up due to "bad gas." They cleaned it and it has been working fine. However, this is an acknowledged problem with the 2018 and 2019 Honda Fit. Honda actually extended the warranty for those years to cover those repairs. My car only had 22156 miles on it. And the error I experienced is the exact error that was reported to happen with the 2018 and 2019 models, however I was told my car was not covered because it's a 2020 model. I feel they should have to cover this error in the 2020 model, as well.

The power steering rack is malfunctioning. It is available for inspection upon request. The steering wheel does not return by itself while vehicle is in motion-- the steering becomes difficult to steer even at slight angles intermittently. This led to difficultly steering while travelling, putting me and my passengers at risk. Yes, a honda dealership and a private garage have confirmed that the power steering rack is malfunctioning and the cause of the unusual behavior in the car. The vehicle has been inspected by a honda dealership (manufacturer). There were no warning lights or signals to indicate anything was wrong. I only noticed the problem while driving because it is my car, and I am familiar with how it feels to drive.

The dealership changed the oil on my 2020 Honda Fit, and the Oil Life display was reset to 100%, on 1/8/24. Two days later the LCD panel, which shows the fuel gauge, odometer, remaining range, oil life, etc. began to intermittently go blank or become garbled and unreadable. This has continued to happen without warning. Especially with respect to the fuel gauge, I believe this is a safety issue, since my only indication of low fuel may occur only when (and if!) the low fuel warning goes on. I had scheduled an appointment to have the dealership look at the panel, but cancelled it when I learned that 1. this has apparently been a common problem in the Honda Fit since at least the 2015 models and 2. the dealership would charge me a $160 diagnostic fee. My car is six months out of warranty, but has only 7,230 miles on it. I no longer feel safe driving moderate to long distances, since the instrument panel is no longer reliable.

The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) consistently provides a false positive when approaching a particular railroad crossing near my home. When about 20 yards away from the crossing (a single set of tracks) approaching at 30-35mph, the BRAKE warning flashes and beeps for a second or two, but it's not clear that any actual braking is applied. This does not happen if I slow to about 20mph or less before approaching the crossing. At this particular railroad crossing, the road is going downhill towards the tracks and the tracks cross the road at 90degrees. This happens day or night (there are street lights at this crossing). The forward collision warning distance is set to Normal. At other railroad crossings where the road is level or going uphill towards the tracks, I have not experienced this issue.

ODI #11506791AIR BAGSCRASH1 INJURY

A Nissan pickup towing a trailer ran a red light and crashed into the front middle driver’s side area of my 2020 Honda Fit. The driver who ran the red light was traveling at an approximate speed between 40-50 mph. At the moment of impact the left side of my head hit the driver’s side window. The entire left side of my body was forcefully thrown against the door. After my body went left, the force of the impact caused my body to flail to the right. My car is equipped with front, side curtain and side airbags, for a total of six airbags; none of which deployed during or after my car was struck. According to the diagram located in my Honda Fit’s owner’s manual, there is an airbag sensor located on the front/middle section on the driver’s side, the exact point where my car was crashed into. I sustained several injuries that I feel could’ve been prevented had the airbags deployed as they were designed. At the time of the accident, I was turning left after I had gotten a green turning arrow to proceed,. I was traveling at approximately 15-20 mph. I rapidly decelerated as a means to prevent the collision, but was unable to avoid it, as the other driver did not swerve or brake to avoid me. He hit me at full speed. My car has been declared a total loss by my insurance company. The car is available for inspection. I have retained an attorney and we will be getting an investigator to obtain the data from the car’s event data recorder as soon as possible. There were no warning lights for airbags prior to the accident. I was properly wearing my seatbelt at the time of the accident. No post manufacturing modifications have ever been made to my car. I called Honda to report this on February 10, 2023. One of the biggest reasons I chose a Honda Fit, in addition to it meeting my personal needs and size preferences, was because of its safety features, yet when I needed them, the airbag system failed.

The rear (tailgate) window on our 2020 Honda Fit shattered (busted) on its own for no reason. Nothing hit or even touched the car. No other cars were around. No other damage to the car. The car has been parked on the side of road for about 5-10 min. We were staying about 2-3 feet away when we heard a load explosion. Most of the glass held up due to ceramic tint but some glass shards (especially from the corners) were ejected several feet away. Oddly, the substantial cracks were not in the center, but in the corners. This is very concerning because glass shards could cause serious injury. We are grateful we were not in the car when it happened. We are just shocked and cannot understand what could possible cause this. We did some research and became alarmed how many other Honda car owners experienced the same issue. Our car is less than a year old. Given the way the glass shattered, there is no logical explanation to this other than it appears to be a defect in the glass or during the installation of the rear window. We took the car to dealership (Paragon Honda) and the dealership refused to cover the cost and insisted we repair through the insurance. The dealership refused even to inspect or investigate, claiming that windows do not shatter on their own. After doing some research, this is clearly not true and appears to be common issue with Honda models. Moreover, the New Vehicle Limited Warranty explicitly provides that it covers "broken, chipped, or scratched window glass" if it is due to defect in material or workmanship." We will do whatever it's needed to get the window repair, but I urge Honda to investigate this issue because rear windows exploding on their own pause a serious safety concern. I have no doubt if my window was not tinted, we would be hit with glass pieces as we were just a few feet away when it happened. How can Honda ensure this does not happen again? Please contact me with any follow-ups. I also have photos of the window.

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 60/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

The recalls (red dashed lines) followed the first complaints by 2 years — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.

Red dots on the amber line flag 2023, a year when complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.

Maintenance intervals vary significantly by make, model, year, engine, and driving conditions. Always follow the manufacturer's official schedule — not generic industry estimates.

Tip: Request the seller's service records and compare against the manufacturer schedule. Missing intervals are a negotiation point.
