Lemon law eligibility depends on state law, number of repair attempts, and days out of service. Consult an attorney for actual eligibility.
The same components appear in both official NHTSA recalls and owner-filed complaints — a double-confirmed failure signal.
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.
NHTSA VIN-specific recall lookup returned no data for this VIN. The 4 recalls below are model-wide and may or may not apply to this exact vehicle depending on production date. Verify at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle shook and vibrated abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V704000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was associated with the recall. The contact later replaced the rear brakes independently. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
One morning, in an attempt to start my car, it would not start. Instead, it lit up the check engine light. The engine was turning over and attempting to start, but would not start. I know someone with a code reader device that I asked to come hook up to my car and read what code was causing my check engine light to pop up. The reader displayed the code U18A2 which indicates a "Lost Communication with Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM)". This commonly causes a no-start or stalling condition due to a broken CAN bus wire, corroded harness, or faulty FPCM ground. Key fixes involve repairing wiring along the frame rail. Many versions of the 2020 equinox have already been recalled for a fuel pump control module problem, and I was trying to inquire whether or not my vehicle qualifies as part of the recall for the fuel pump module.
Multiple times (Friday, March 27, Monday March 30, 2026) we have had the 2020 Equinox fail to accelerate at green lights. The gas pedal is pressed to the floor and car is VERY slow to accelerate. It takes multiple depressions of the gas pedal to accelerate more than 10 mph. There are open recalls on certain vin numbers from the NHTSA but mine was not on list yet appears to have many of the same concerns. Our local mechanic believes the details of recall bulletin 20V668000 should apply to our car as well.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was temporarily restarted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with PCV failure. The vehicle was not repaired and was sold due to the cost of the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 74,400.
the car has a grinding that i am not sure where it is coming from, it maybe coming from the wheel and it also has a battery problem
The brake booster vacuum pump, in the words of Meineke, massive failure. The pump locked up and exploded, there are parts of at least under the valve cover. The failure resulted in the ruining of the camshaft, as this pump is controlled by the camshaft. The end of my camshaft looks like a mushroom head. This failure is currently in the investigation part of a class action law suit in which I am adding my name to the hat. My wife was driving at the time and fortunately was not injured during this catastrophic failure with what seems like planned obsolescence. I am also glad the kids weren’t in the car when this happened. We had just crossed 100k miles.
The gas tank was leaking without any warning or incident. The car was not involved in any incident that would have caused damage to the gas tank. The smell of raw fuel was very strong one morning. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and inspected. Same model and year was under a recall for the gas tank but our particular vin was not included in the recall. There were no warning signs or symptoms.
Infotainment center is not operable. Had a diagnostic test completed by certified dealership and it is found that the infotainment center and radio is not operable. Contacted General motors corporate office. $47 was offered to go towards the $950 to fix it It. They did not offer any reimbursement for the $204 paid out of pocket for diagnostics fee that I they advised me to get after filing complaint. Due to the malfunction of the infotainment center and radio other safety issues have stopped working. Such as the onstar safety feature, the phone In case of emergency, the turn signals and also the safety features on the rear and side view mirrors, car length warning, and back up camera. Was advised from the dealership that all of these functions have ceased working due to the failure of the infotainment center and the radio. Unable to hear any warnings. Made a complaint with Ohio Attorney General's office and General motors' response was only to provide me 5%, which is the $47 towards the dealership invoice. There reason was that due to the mileage they cannot assist further than that. Its not about entertainment of the radio. I feel this is a safety hazard on so many levels, and it is not caused by simple wear and tear or any fault of the driver. This is a safety issue that I want addressed. This should not be a financial burden that the consumer should carry by themselves.
I bought the equinox with 30,000 miles on it. It's at 67,000 now and I maintain the vehicle regularly. So why have I replaced the throttle body already because it gets dirty fast? And now I'm getting a check engine light for P2099 TurboCharger Underboost. When the vehicle is not old it's 5 years old, hasn't been driven hard. So why are you using a crap 1.5L engine with a turbo that is notorious for these issues??? And what's worse the engineering is horse s$*t, because the air inlet hose is only one time use. But the part is underneath it where you can't reach. Why has this not been recalled yet????????? It's not but a scam to make you take it to a dealership. I'll continue to write complaints this is not right. And I'll never buy one again.
See attached document for complaint.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the rear tire treads were prematurely worn. A mobile independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle at the residence, and the mechanic determined that the brakes were dragging. The brakes were replaced. The vehicle was taken to a tire dealer, where the rear tires were replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the defective tires were inspected. The service manager associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V704000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no assistance would be provided because the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 48,800.
I keep loosing power and get the message "Engine Power Reduced" and the car stops while driving down the road, sometimes it just stutters and won't maintain speed without the warning. I've had 2 shops check it out and can't find anything wrong. This vehicle has had all required maintenance done by the dealer since it was new.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the front wheel drive transmission assembly, flushed the transmission fluid, and updated the transmission control module. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Vehicle lacked power to accelerate. Took vehicle to Christian Brothers Automotive where it was diagnosed with a bad transmission, Christian Brothers replaced the transmission.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 58 MPH, the message “Engine Power Reduced” was displayed, and the vehicle unintendedly decelerated to 30 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the nearest exit and to the nearest gas station. The contact waited for a while before driving to the residence, while not exceeding 30 MPH. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve, bypass tube, the injector seal set, an unspecified plug, and the vacuum pump seal had failed, and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I would like to formally file a safety complaint regarding my Chevrolet vehicle and to express concern over Chevrolet’s handling of a known defect. On January 22, while driving to work in cold weather conditions, my vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous malfunction. The engine unexpectedly revved to approximately 4,500 RPM, the check engine light illuminated, and the dashboard displayed an “Engine Power Reduced” message. Despite removing my foot from the accelerator, the vehicle did not slow down as expected. I was able to pull over to the side of the road and bring the vehicle to a stop. I immediately contacted my local Chevrolet service department and was advised to bring the vehicle in six days later, the following Friday. Due to the safety risk, we did not use the vehicle during this time out of concern for a potential accident. When the vehicle was inspected by the Chevrolet dealership, we were informed that Chevrolet had identified this issue as being related to cold weather operation and that a custom shield had been designed to address the problem. We were also told that Chevrolet vehicles were not adequately designed for cold weather conditions, which led to this failure. Despite this acknowledgment and the fact that Chevrolet has engineered a corrective part, we were informed that the repair—costing approximately $1,600—is not covered under our extended warranty, as the shield was not installed on the vehicle at the time of purchase. The vehicle remains unsafe to drive. When accelerating, engine RPMs surge from approximately 2,500 to 4,000 RPM, and the vehicle can suddenly decelerate, creating a serious risk of rear-end collisions if a following driver is forced to brake abruptly. This issue represents a significant safety hazard. Chevrolet has acknowledged the defect by creating a corrective part, yet is declining to cover the repair cost, leaving the responsibility with the customer for a known design issue. Please let me know my next step
While driving, my engine light came on. After taking it in, it turned out that I had water/oil freezing in the intercooler. This could have been very dangerous when I was driving. I have had the GM Wrap put on it. I am hoping that this will not be a problem again.
turbo/superchargers malfunctioned, and I had to have it replaced back up sensors do not work properly. Say backup, assistant, malfunction.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the turn signal flashed two or three times and then stopped. In addition, the doors independently locked and unlocked, and the TPMS sensors were inoperable. The contact stated that when the failure occurred, the front headlights flashed off and came back on. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,050.
My son was driving the car the Service Brake Assist message popped up on the screen, and the brake pedal went stiff. He was coming to a red light and had to swerve to the right to avoid hitting the cars in front of him as he had no brakes at this point. We had the vehicle towed to our house, had the vehicle looked at by our mechanic. The Diagnosis was the brake vacuum pump, part number #12684050 exploded. It is available for inspection, at this point we don't know if the metal pieces have fallen into the engine compartments and we would rather not replace the engine as well. We had contacted the Local Chevy Service dept. who said we can pay $1500.00 to for them to take apart the top of the engine to look for broken pieces, but the best option is to trade it in as soon as possible.
Oil Consumption... loses 1 QT every 1000 miles driven... Car only has 28,000 miles driven on it...
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH, the message "Engine Power Reduced" was suddenly displayed. While attempting to stop, the brake pedal was extremely difficult to depress, and the braking distance was extended. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact was also informed that metal shavings from the vacuum pump might have entered the engine and that an engine diagnostic test was needed. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.
Rear spear tire compartment full of water. Sunroof drains leaking into rear fuse box. Fuel pump and fuel pump module failing when driving. Turbo locking up from oil seal failure.
Forward collision system dint notify of an object infront , also breaks locked up when used .Air bags didn’t go off while a forward collision with a bus happened
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lost power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Neither an independent mechanic nor the dealer was contacted. The contact waited thirty minutes, and the vehicle started to operate as intended. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several different occasions. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
The power brake booster failed suddenly causing the brake petal to become hard. Almost caused an accident as I suddenly lost the ability to brake. There was no warning prior to the failure. After the failure a service warning for brake assist appeared. The vehicle was been inspected by an auto service provider.
The Engine Power Reduced Sensor came on and the gas pedal was hard to push so we took the car to a Chevy Dealership. We were told the code po299 was showing and that the turbo needs to be replaced ($4000). This is a VERY common problem and Chevy even acknowledges that but they are doing nothing about it.
This issue has happened to me twice now. Dec 19th 2024 I Driving on a highway at about 60mph, traffic slowed, I tried to stop and instantly had no brakes at all. There was a light that came on as I was applying the brakes, "service brake assist". Had it towed to a mechanic and they replaced the brake vacuum pump. We ordered this part from a Chevrolet dealership so we knew it was the proper part. Most recent was two days ago, Nov 10th 2025, NOT even a full year later. Driving about 55mph, tried to stop and no brakes again with the same service message. It is currently at the shop being repaired. The part is under warranty but of course labor isnt. Both times this happened, I had to drive over on to the shoulder to avoid causing an accident. Prior to this, there was no warning that there was anything wrong with the brakes. The only place that can confirm this issue is the mechanic shop as they are the ones doing the work. Attached is a copy of the receipt from the first time.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The message “Reduced Engine Power” was displayed. The vehicle did not require a restart to resume operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the wastegate actuator had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the coolant inside the actuator had frozen due to the local low temperatures. The dealer advised that precautions were needed to prevent future coolant-related failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.
Sirus XM radio not working I called Sirus XM and cancelled my subscription they told me it is an ongoing issue multiple people are having the same issue it keeps saying reception is blocked.
Some kind of malfunction with the sunroof caused the sunroof to open without me knowing. Only the glass part opened. The top part of the car on the inside right above the door was wet down toward the side near the brake pedal fuse box that was filled with water. Sunroof will not close. Was told we needed to replace motors
Brake vacuum pump has failed. my brake pedal I had to put my full weight on to stop my car. I almost crashed into the person in front of me. It was my full weight and all the way to the ground in my car wasn’t stopping.
Pulling into traffic car stalled without warning. Went from about 25 MPH to a complete stop in approximately in less than 100 feet. Car sputtered with transmission grabbing intermittently as it jerked to a stop. Restarted about several times with similar behavior. (Covered under 60,000-mile warranty (actual mileage ~55,000)). Replaced fuel pump driver control module to correct. No accident due to distance to on-coming traffic, but easily could have caused an accident during high traffic conditions.
I’ve had the 02 sensor, maf sensor and a system update and my check engine won’t clear I’ve been dealing with this for over 5 months now. A Chevy dealership has had my vehicle and never informed me of warranty or recall issues.my check engine is throwing random code relating to the 02 sensor, lean code and multiple components having communication issues. Check engine will be lit and then clear on its own then return almost immediately
My passenger seat belt light on can you let me know what to do
I bought this car 1 1/2 yr ago.. Thursday I was driving down the road no warning lights no sounds, it stalled.. I got it home by a friend towing it, and when I went to try to start it, I then had the check engine light come on, and it threw 3 codes.. P0017, P0089, P228D. I was told that the ecm was replaced but after researching this there has been multiple sites stating others are having same issue.. and some stating that their problem was fixed but it broke down again every time. I just want my car fixed. And the company should have to pay for it...
In the middle of rush hour traffic and my car just stopped and wouldn't start. After having it towed to the closest auto repair shop I was advised that the Fuel Pump Module was bad and needed to be replaced. Cheverolet was aware of this defect which is why they recalled it in 2021.
A go's threw gas really fast the brakes drag and when it starts/stop it acts funny like it has a hard time starting/stopping and my suspension every time I go over something there's clunking started at 34000 miles when I got it from the dealership and I only have 52,000 miles on it it shouldn't be doing that yet
Recently noticed that windshield wipers were not operating properly especially in heavy downpours. Difficult to see. Garage noticed that wipers were not operating correctly due to a flaw in the windshield wiper motor. There was a recall on earlier Chevy Equinox Windshield Wiper Motor on the 2015 model. I’m wondering if they ever Corrected that problem for later models or is it possible that they are still using a defective motor. Was confirmed by mechanic. Wipers will not operate properly and is definitely a hazard.
With the vehicle around 73,000 and while driving on the highway, the brake system failed to fully function. Using extreme pressure to compress the brakes the vehicle finally slowed and came to a stop with out injury or vehicle accident. After getting the vehicle moved to an independent service center, and further inspection it was found that the vacuum pump exploded. After researching it appears the problem is consistent with other reports but no resolution has been made until it's too late. The component is not currently being inspected by the manufacturer and has only been inspected by independent service center. No warning lights or other symptoms displayed prior to the failure and the only time it first appeared was on the highway at high speeds.
On August 3rd, while driving on the freeway at 55mph, my vehicle's brakes became extremely stiff, and I could not press them down to engage the braking system. I was about to collide with the vehicle in front of me, so I quickly veered right without looking because I had no time. After moving to the right, the brakes finally slowed the vehicle to around 40mph. Luckily, the traffic light turned green, allowing me to continue moving with the remaining momentum. As I attempted to take a turn on a bridge above the freeway, the steering wheel became stiff. At this point, I was unsure whether I could turn the car at that speed with the steering not responding. I need General Motors and Chevrolet to take action on the severity of the situation and make the necessary and appropriate restitution to me for the traumatic and physical injuries sustained during the incident. For the amount of time I've been without a vehicle, I am now running high risk of loosing my job. $3,700. is what they are charging me, which is conveniently not under warranty. When consistently stating that no one really sure what's covered and what's not covered.
Fuel pump driver control module went out in my car while trying to drive forward in my drive way. My car will not start again.
The vacuum pump seized and broke and sent debris into the camshaft
I am experiencing a recurring issue with my vehicle where the Park Assist system keeps activating unexpectedly, and the Check Engine Light (CEL) also comes on. I have taken the vehicle to O’Reilly Auto Parts for a diagnostic scan, and they reported no repairable codes present. Additionally, I visited Tires Plus, and their assessment was that if the light goes off on its own, then no issue is present that requires repair. Despite the temporary disappearance of the warning lights, the issue keeps returning, which raises concern. The Park Assist activation is not being manually triggered and appears without warning, often accompanied by the CEL. This inconsistent behavior suggests there may be an intermittent or underlying issue with the vehicle’s sensors, wiring, or onboard systems that may not register a permanent diagnostic code. At this time, no repairs have been performed due to both locations stating that no actionable codes or faults were detected. However, the issue continues to happen periodically, and I would like further inspection or documentation of the problem, especially if it worsens or begins affecting vehicle safety or drivability.
Getting off the highway and brake pedal is just hard can barely push it. It stopped but barely.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power and was unable to accelerate. Afterward, the message "Low Power Mode" was displayed. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway; however, the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the Turbocharger Control Valve (TCV). The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 18-NA-020. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
I purchased this vehicle as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle from George Moore Chevrolet in Jacksonville, Florida, in October 2023. At the time of purchase, the vehicle had approximately 35,000 miles, and it now has approximately 60,000 miles. I have maintained all recommended service intervals and oil changes as required. On June 14, 2025, while stopped at a traffic signal with my foot on the brake pedal, the pedal suddenly sank to the floor, causing the vehicle to roll forward into traffic unexpectedly. I was able to place the vehicle in neutral and then park to prevent a collision. After turning the vehicle off and restarting it when the light changed, the brakes continued to fail. I carefully maneuvered to a nearby area behind a warehouse and allowed the vehicle to come to a complete stop by shifting into neutral. I contacted a tow truck through my State Farm roadside assistance program and had the vehicle transported to my local mechanic. Upon inspection on June 16, 2025, the technician determined that the brake lines were corroded and leaking. Initially, he suspected the master brake cylinder, but it was confirmed not to be leaking. He noted that the metal-braided portion of the brake line had completely deteriorated on one side and was severely compromised on the other. Both brake lines were replaced to restore braking function. Fortunately, I was able to avoid an accident, but this was an alarming experience that I have never encountered in any vehicle I have owned. My mechanic expressed concern about the extent of corrosion on such a relatively new vehicle and indicated this could represent a broader safety issue. I respectfully request that this matter be documented and investigated to ensure that other drivers are not placed at similar risk.
•Initial incident: July 2, 2025 •Recurring occurrences: August 8, 2025 Vehicle Issue Description: Several months ago, the vehicle’s check engine light came on. A diagnostic scan was performed at O’Reilly Auto Parts, but no error codes were detected. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for further inspection. The shop found no mechanical issues and confirmed the vehicle was operating normally at that time. On August 6, 2025, the “Service Brake Assist” warning appeared briefly on the dashboard but turned off shortly afterward. The parking brake warning light also came on that same day, then went off. These warning lights reappeared intermittently on August 8, 2025. No repairs have been made as there are no active recalls related to these issues. However, it is noted that there are consumer complaints reporting similar problems. This raises concerns about potential intermittent or undetected safety system faults, particularly involving the brake assist system and parking brake functionality. Checked brakes again no issues determined per Bridgestone and Mavis.
I was driving just got off the freeway and went to hit the brakes and the brake pedal was hard as a rock I had to use force to slow down to safely get over from the left lane to the right lane to get into a parking lot was a pretty scary experience, called AAA had it towed to the dealer they said the vacuum pump failed which I suspected because of the other complaints regarding the same thing, there was no recalls on my car dealer fixed it under warranty and they said there was no damage to the camshaft. The dealer was amazing and would reccamend them, I also had to pay 100 deductible. As others have stated theres a recall on the vacuum pumps but certain Vin #s are not included. Gm needs to included all Vin #s for the equinox in the recall whats it gonna take somebody to get killed!
Check engine light came on got code P1005 and code P1029. Shop had to change out fuel level sensor code came back so they had to change out fuel pump. Car has 55,000 miles on it.
My breaks stopped working while I was driving, they became hard to press and unable to function. The vacuum pump attached to the engine failed. The vacuum has broken pieces that are now inside of the engine. No warning indicator lights appeared before the incident. As far as I'm aware other similar models are having the same issue but my vin was not included in the recall.
Apparently my vehicle is experiencing the same fuel system and infotainment issues that others have been recalled for. As someone who has been diagnosed with car related PTSD; these issues have become very distressing to say the least. The infotainment system has shut off countless times while driving. I was traveling and missed my exit,I've also been abruptly been disconnected from important work calls and doctors offices. The fuel system is leaking fuel and the smell comes through the vents. As one of two people that utilize this vehicle that are asthmatic; this is very dangerous for us. Also my toddler aged niece cannot ride because of the harsh chemicals she would have to breathe in. Because of the leaking fuel, I'm terrified that it could breakdown anywhere or better yet worse catch fire while I'm driving. I have attached photos of the issues, unfortunately I can't upload the videos but I have countless in regards to the infotainment system and a video message from the mechanic in regards to the fuel system. If there is anyway I can send them also,it would be appreciated.
While driving on the freeway at 75 mph my vacuum pump seized and shattered, causing me to loose all breaking power, damaging my engine beyond repair and endangering my life and numerous other drivers on the road. There is a current recall on the particular year, make and model for this issue but my VIN is not included so the dealership refuses to fix the issue.
Engine light continues to turn on after taking it to shop multiple times and no one can find the problem. Code shows P0299. Everything has been checked and there’s nothing to correspond with this code. This has been going on for a year now with multiple fees paid to diagnose and repair.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the check engine, traction control, and stability control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local Advance Auto Store and was diagnosed with a fuel injector failure. The fuel injectors were replaced, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 92,080.
We were in a 9car pile up. Front and back and drivers side were hit and severely damaged. Airbags did not deploy. After the accident smoke was seen coming from the sides of the car where the seat belts come out of. Both front and back were white puffs of smoke from all four seatbelts. The front passenger seatbelt failed to tighten on impact as all the other seatbelts did. Passenger was thrown about the front area, hitting multiple parts of the body. Car is currently in a tow lot. Insurance is going to inspect it.
The contact owned a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the instrument panel lights became dim/flicker, and the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact mentioned she pulled over to the right side and left the vehicle at the scene. In addition, the contact drove back to the scene where the vehicle was parked, and she noticed the state trooper and a tow company. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention. The contact mentioned the fire happened overnight. The vehicle extinguished independently. A fire department mentioned to the contact that there were calls about the fire and that the fire was coming from the engine. However, the fire report was unknown. A police report was filed. The insurance company denied the claim of fire. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
My car won’t stay started as if the gas is not going through the engine. I was told it might be the fuel control module or fuel pump
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving above 50 MPH, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating abnormally and failed to properly accelerate. The contact stated that the message "Turn Off Engine" was displayed. The contact stated that the engine had experienced excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed and it was determined that the PCV was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was unknown.
The vacuum pump broke and caused the brake booster to lose vacuum and made the brakes hard and almost caused an accident.
Vehicle brakes became hard and failed to stop, check engine light came on and warning saying reduced engine power. Vacuum pump seized and broke off in the crankshaft. After vacuum pump replacement vehicle failed to start multiple times. Vehicle started and had rough idle and stalled multiple times. Currently awaiting dealer inspection.
This past weekend, while driving my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, I experienced a sudden and complete brake failure. I was turning into a residential neighborhood at approximately 20-30mph when the brakes locked up without warning. Despite pressing the brake pedal, the car would not stop. I attempted to shift into park, but the vehicle continued to roll forward. I had to engage the emergency brake, which caused the car to come to an immediate stop. Thankfully, there were no cars in front of me, but I came dangerously close to hitting a cement wall head-on. This created a serious risk to my safety and potentially to others had the situation occurred in traffic or near pedestrians. There were no warning lights, noises, or prior symptoms indicating an issue with the braking system. The vehicle has since been towed to the dealership and is currently awaiting inspection. I've learned that there are existing recalls on other VINS for the 2020 Equinox related to an incorrect lubricant used in the manufacturing process of the rear brake calipers. This defect can cause the calipers to swell, leading to excessive brake drag. Over time, this drag may result in overheating and possible brake lockup, which aligns with what I experienced. The component appears to be the braking system, specifically involving the calipers or pads. At the time of writing, the failure has not yet been confirmed by the dealer. This issue is extremely dangerous and could have resulted in a severe crash. I am reporting this in hopes that it contributes to a broader investigation, especially if this problem extends beyond currently recalled VINs.
I am filing a safety complaint regarding a failure of the vacuum pump in my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The failure occurred without warning and severely impacted the vehicle’s braking performance, posing a serious safety risk while driving. When the vacuum pump failed, I experienced a hard brake pedal and a significant loss of braking power, which made it difficult to stop the vehicle safely. Thankfully, I was not in heavy traffic or approaching a stoplight at high speed when it happened—otherwise, it could have resulted in a serious accident. After researching this issue, I discovered that vacuum pump failures appear to be a recurring problem in other GM vehicles of similar model years. It is extremely concerning that such a critical component could fail prematurely and without adequate warning. I believe this issue should be investigated for a potential defect and safety recall. I urge the NHTSA to look into this matter to ensure the safety of other drivers who may be at risk due to this defect. Thank you for your time and attention.
Engine reduced power, over acceleration as well as sluggish acceleration, wobbling on the freeway, electrical dashboard problems, tire sensor light comes on after getting it repaired. This vehicle has the same problems like 2021 -2024, reduced speed and couldn't go over 40 mph on a busy street with speed limited being 50 mph.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while his son was driving 60 MPH, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal and stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The contact's son was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact's son called Roadside Assistance, who added gasoline to the vehicle, because the contact's son believed that was the cause of the failure. However, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The fuel pump and battery were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that at start -up, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the A/C compressor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced Technical Service Bulletin: 18-NA-162; as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Twice my vehicle has stopped working where the shift to park messaging comes up and the car will not turn on or off. The vecle displays sec, low fuel, and park to shift messaging. The p for park to shift with the wrench underneath it appears. This issue happened once while I was in park and tried turning on my car and the other while I was in drive at a light.
The vaccum pump seized which is connected to the camshaft which broke causing the timing chain to break. This caused the vehicle to lose breaking g power and almost wreck.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle could not able to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to the residence, and a handheld diagnostic machine retrieved DTC: U18A2. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
On February 25,2025 I first noticed my engine light was blinking constantly while my service esc light and tc light was on while driving on the freeway. When I exited the freeway all lights went off. I had my mechanic check it out and he suspected a misfire because he ran the vin and said my vehicle had a history of a misfire. I was unaware of that because I wasn't given that information when I bought the vehicle a little over a year ago. I drove the vehicle approximately a month just around town and on March 26 2025 I was driving on the freeway and again the service escaped light came back on as well as the TC light with a line across the letters TC. The engine light did not come on on this occasion. I've read stories with many people with my same vehicle having the very same issue however I've searched my vin and there's no recall listed for my particular vehicle and I think there should be. I find it strange that the lights only come on if I'm on the freeway and I don't feel safe driving the vehicle with my son in the car while traveling outside of the city. I'm still.under warranty but I'm unsure if this issue is covered under my warranty.
Service brake assist
I have driven this car for approximately 40,000 miles without issue, and regularly have the oil changed. Based on what my mechanic told me, the fuel pump either failed or detached while I was driving on the turnpike. This resulted in a loss of oil. I was simply accelerating to pass another vehicle when several warning light illuminated. The engine made grinding noises and there was an oil-like smell. The dashboard gave me a warning to “seek engine service immediately” and that “acceleration would be limited.” This was a potentially dangerous situation but luckily it was mid day and not in busy traffic. So I was able to safely pull over to the side of the road. I understand that Equinox models from other years were recalled — why don’t you recall the 2020 models?!
Our car has just around 77,000 miles and the brakes stopped working while driving. To our luck my husband quickly thought to use the e brake to prevent a car crash. We took it into our mechanic who diagnosed a brake pump failure. It looks as though the 2020 equinox has recalls for brake issues but our vin number was not listed. This is very dangerous and could have caused a deadly or serious injury crash. We had no prior warning to this happening. The shop owner is fixing the issue and we are holding onto receipts if this becomes a recall available on our vehicle. Very unsafe and according to my research has happened to alot of GM owners.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power, with the check engine and parking brake assist maintenance lights illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic at AAA. The vehicle was then diagnosed with fuel system assembly failure. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
ABS and breaks exploded at 67k miles and at 78k miles car shut off in middle of the street with no warning. Electric issues confirmed by mechanic.
Unknown, My wife was driving my 2020 Chevy equinox on the freeway when suddenly the vehicle shut down with no warning signs ..she tried to turn on the emergency lights and did not function slowly she yield to other lanes and cars honking she safely made it to the side of the freeway..she tried to turn the car and did not wanted to restart everything shutdown .she call roadside assistance..they came and try to give her a jumpstart and it fail.they tried to tow it and they couldn't cause the brakes were also locked..This.was a scary situation that would had cause major accident.
2020 Equinox with14,860 miles stalled in busy intersection due to failed fuel pump module. This part was recalled for the 2021 and 2022 models and was on back order. My vehicle remained at the service center for two weeks and I was without any other means of transportation. If this had happened on the highway it might have resulted in a serious crash with the possibility of a fatality. There were no warning lights or messages prior to this happening.
Engine burning excess oil causing engine to go in safety mode and preventing car to go over 25 miles per hr. This happen on a major highway with two kids in the car and was almost rear ended. Took to dealership who has recieved bulletins regarding this issue and will repair the engine. To me this should be on a recall due to saftety.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a transmission oil leak; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic where it was determined that there was a transmission leak; however, the cause of the failure was unknown. The contact researched and was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V668000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Engine loss of power while on highway. When tried to excelerate engine sputtered, going up small incline it would not exceed 50mph. Took to auto shop and spark plug tip was broke and error for cylinder #1. They said take to dealer. Took to dealer and they said engine failed. Cyclinder #1 no combustion. Vehicle had 87,000 miles. Engine had to be replaced. $13,000. GM assist covered some but I paid $9072 to replace engine. Vehicle at approx 25000 miles had same issue. I took to dealer and they said a spark plug was cracked and had to replace. I took my vehicle in every 7k miles for oil change and inspection to local Conrad’s total car care. I was originally quoted verbally $9900 for engine repair. I called GM to file a complaint and they said engine “GM cost assist” program called me. When they got involved they offered $4100 towards repairs and dealer - Serpentini Westlake, oh increased their quote to $13k so I still pair $9072. Dealer got an extra $3k for me calling GM to complain and I “saved” or got $800 benefit from GM cost assist. What a scam.dealer refused to give me paperwork showing the details of repairs or breakdown of cost. I received a receipt that stated engine replacement $9072. They wanted me to sign the receipt but would not let me read or view any of the attached paperwork. I refused to sign the receipt and they reminded how much of a favor they did for me by giving me a loaner for approx 10 days while replacing my engine. They additionally said they aren’t required to provide me with any details regarding the GM cost assist or pricing.
fuel pump failed at 48246 miles the car shut off in the middle of a busy road in my city fortunately we were able to coast to a parking lot across the street and had the vehicle towed to Kerry Chevrolet Kerry Chevrolet inspected , confirmed and repaired the vehicle at a cost of $766.75 to me. They would not warranty this and I had to rent a car while mine was in the shop. If it had been warranties by chevrolet I wouldn't have had to rent the vehicle at a cost of $160.43. light on dash came on and car wouldl cut in and out I was on my way to Kerry Chevrolet for service on this issue when it completely stopped.
The harness will loosen while I’m driving, after I have tightened / secured my child, therefore making them unsafe in the result of a crash.
1. The harness will randomly loosen while we are driving down the road after we have insured our child is securely in the seat. 2. Our child would not be properly restrained in the result of a wreck. 3. Yes, inspected by a CPST.
ENGINE PISTON FAILURE cannot get it fixed new engine on order 5 weeks now chevy will not even talk about it
I was driving the car and suddenly the car started accelerating on it's own. No cruise control was on . My wife was in the passenger seat and it was lucky as I did not panic , just taped on the brakes to slow down. This happened many times until we got home and it is dangerous and scary, also this is a know problem with this model car. No lights or warnings came on. We could have easily crashed into a vehicle in front of us, run a red light , etc. No inspections by anyone, maybe it was inspected by the dealer?
The computer module for the fuel pump failed. This caused the car to not start some days. As well as turn off in the middle of intersections after coming to a stop while in traffic. The car is currently at the dealership for 2 months now with the part on back order. Many other Chevy equinox are recalling this same part but not my vehicle. This is concerning as it seems to needed to be added to the list of recalls.
Car would sputter and turn over eventually but then die out. Was unable to drive at all. Luckily I was not driving with my baby in the car when it went out like I see so many others. Took it to the shop and it is a fuel pump issue. I see that other years have been recalled for this so unsure why the 2020 has not.
On december 15, 2024 my car stalled out. on the middle of the road nearly causing me a collison. My vehicle for. the last month has been - what i assume is having electrical problems , my car is only 4 years old so im uncertain as to why it would be stalling out , this is also the first time that this has happen . i called my insurance company to file a report about my vehicle stalling out on a busy traffic road and all that was said was unless im in a collison there is nothing they can. do and if the car stallls out and i am in a accident it would be me at fault . I have one car which is the chevy equinox 2020. i cant afford to die nor be in accident that can potential put me in danger for a car that is only 4 years old .
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The message “Engine Power Reduced” was displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 95,000.
Water accumulate on backseat floor boards on both sides and in the trunk's spare tire compartment. Possible electrical issues from electrical components being wet. Vehicle has mold. No warning lights. Issue first known occurance on 11/9/24. Took vehicle to the dealership for inspection and was told that I'm responsible for diagnostic and repair. This is a known issue for this year and model but this has not been recalled.
I was going on ramp and started to go on Interstate when my vehicle slowed down, check engine lights came on. It wouldn't pick up speed. I had vehicle checked and it was Turbocharger. I had to pay $2,820.13 for repairs. 10/
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for the front grille replacement after the vehicle had struck a turkey, the contact was informed that the moon roof was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that water later entered the vehicle through the moon roof, soaking the spare tire and damaging the air compressor beneath the cargo space. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was hard while depressed, and the vehicle failed to immediately stop, causing the braking distance to become extended. During the failure the message "Brake Assist" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who replaced the brake pads and brake rotors, but the failure persisted. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 71,000.
I put the vehicle into reverse to back in into my garage when it suddenly lurched forward and hit the garage door on the garage across the alley. There was damage to the garage and the car's front end. It has never done anything like this before.
Vehicle lost power because of a faulty fuel pump control module. On highway could have caused collision. GM knows of problems but not recalling them. Problem has occurred several times. Check engine light came on.
The Fuel module and fuel pump stalled my car out on a highway causing me to have to quickly roll off the road to not get hit by cars behind me going 60 mph. This car is just at 80000 and the fuel module and pump should not have gone out yet. This seems to be such a problem no one can find the part because it is on back order everywhere, I have been without a vehicle since Sept 19th...and am fixing to go through my second hurricane here in florida with no transportation. I'm trilled with this issue.
I was driving my car approaching a four way intersection, to realize my brake pedal was not pressing down to the floor. This was 9/28/24. I have a 2020 Chevy Equinox. I put my car in the shop to only find out that vacuum pump has exploded and left metal inside the engine. Done some research with the repair shop and to my surprise, GM has had a lot of recalls with vehicles having this issue. Who ever the CEO is, I pray that you understand how deadly and serious this issue is. This could have ended badly for me and could have been tragic for my family. I can not afford to get the metal out of my engine. And to replace the vacuum pump alone was $700. In order for them to clean the engine would cost me an extra $1000. That's ridiculous for a car that I have only had almost 4 years and with maybe 10,000 miles when I purchased it. My voice will be heard. And I will keep advocating for people who are going through this! Our lives matter. This is very common in vehicles with 1.5 liter engines. I'm going to keep researching and hopefully GM will compensate me for this and the engine work.
We were driving on the highway and just exited. My husband hit the brakes and the pedal was hard to push. He basically had to put all his weight on the pedal in order to slow down. Once we were able to stop completely, we got the 2020 Chevy Equinox looked at and we were told that the vacuum pump that is attached the the cam shift exploded and pieces were in the engine. This has caused approx. $3000 in damage that me and my husband can't afford. The vehicle is still at Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine. We are going to have to tow it back to my brothers until we can afford the payment to fix it.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while exiting the highway at 50 MPH, the brake pedal had hardened and the contact could not depress the brake pedal. Several brake warning messages appeared on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the vehicle into neutral(N) and pulled into a parking lot to allow the vehicle to coast to a stop. Once the vehicle slowed to a complete stop, the contact shut off the vehicle. The vehicle failed to restart after multiple attempts. The contact called a relative to the scene who used a code reader to determine the cause of the failure. The code reader showed that there was a defect with the vehicle's vacuum pump, brake sensor, and intake camshaft position timing. The vehicle's codes were reset and the vehicle restarted; however, the brake failure persisted. Due to the failure, the vehicle was initially towed to the relative's home and eventually to the dealer. The dealer performed a diagnostic where they discovered metal shavings in the engine camshaft which damaged several parts of the engine. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I have 149,000 miles in this car. In my lifetime of being the one owner and purchasing this car brand new the vacuum pump has failed five times. Twice now resulting in blown engines. And still no recalls.
Was driving (in July) through a parking lot when brakes became hard to push. After stopping car, it would not start and went into battery save mode. Car was towed to Chevy dealership in Paducah, Ky. Vacuum pump was replaced and damage to cam shaft and timing chain. Problem was fixed after about $5800 of repairs. Now 2 months later, was driving and noticed “service brake assist” light came on, and brakes were hard to press. Luckily was at a low speed and able to pull over on the side of the road. Car was towed to the local Chevy dealership in Hopkinsville, ky. It is currently waiting for diagnosis of probably the same issue. first incident happened in July, 2nd was at the end of august.
I was driving home when I exited the freeway my car turned off on me. I tried to turn it back on since I was in the middle of a busy street it started for under a minute which it gave me enough time to merge jusr a little to the right. After that the car wouldn't start at all. This problem could've been a lot worse if it would've happened while I was on the freeway. My vehicle turned off without any warnings any vehicle would've slammed in to me at high speed if it would've shut down a minute prior to me exiting. I didn't get any warnings/ lights nothing it just turned off on me in the middle of the road. I had to get it towed to Autonation where they detected the Fuel Module was the problem. This item has been out of stock for sometime now. My car is still at a dealership and may be inspected if needed.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and failed to exceed 10 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an auto repair shop to purchase a diagnostic tool; the diagnostic tool was used to diagnose the vehicle. The diagnostic scan tool determined that the ECM Module, air induction system, and oil pressure system needed to be repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 144,919.
When pressing the gas pedal, my Equinox does not accelerate and move forward. It takes approximately 2-3 seconds for the vehicle to react to the pressing of the pedal and that reaction is slow despite applying full pedal movement. This happens intermittently and appears to be most notable during extreme high temperatures. It also has been noticed while trying to accelerate to pass in addition to trying to go from a stop. I was almost hit by another vehicle because my Equinox didn't go. When it did go, it took roughly another 5-7 seconds to get up to the 45 MPH speed limit.
Fuel pump modular went out and the car stalled out. The same issue is happening to the 2021 and 2022 models that have the recall not sure why the 2020s don’t have the sane
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was erratically jerking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed torque converter. The contact was informed that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH and approaching a red traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact swerved to the left and overtook the vehicle in front of her vehicle, drove off the road, and drove in circles on the grass until the vehicle stopped. The contact then parked the vehicle. The contact stated then resumed driving to the residence at slower speeds. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,070.
Power Train: I purchased a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LS in January 2023. For the past 4 to 7 months the vehicle has completely lost power in traffic several times and I'm not talking about AutoStop and Start, the battery life was great, with no dead cells at all. The vehicle went dead, absolutely no power source inside or outside the Equinox, the SUV could not be placed in neutral to move it out of traffic, nor would the remote key work. The Equinox remained in this mode for approximately 20 minutes. During each incident, the vehicle displayed no warning signs or check engine symbol on the dashboard display before or after each episode. Fuel/Propulsion System: Upon placing unleaded fuel in the vehicle and starting up the ignition, the SUV would start vibrating, sputtering, jerking, and popping sounds. Also, while driving the vehicle upon acceleration at times it seems as if fuel isn't reaching the engine. Brakes: Service Brake Assist may illuminate randomly on the dashboard while on the interstate. These issues has placed and caused my family and I to be in great danger. This is my primary vehicle and I purchased this vehicle because I believed in the reliability of the GM Chevrolet Brand. Not an accident waiting to happen. Yes, the vehicle has been inspected, but please remember if NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT is illuminating on the dashboard the issues can not be assessed properly!
When first breaking on the exit ramp after a 2 hour ride on highway the rear breaks made a loud grinding sound & took longer to stop with 2 cars in front of mine. I put flashers on & pulled as far to side of road incase I was unable to stop at the bottom of the exit (down hill) to avoid collision with the 2 cars in front of me. Previously my vehicle shown no signs of any issues. There were no sounds coming from breaks, no issues slowing down or stopping, & no lights on dashboard to indicate an issue of any kind. I looked my Chevy Equinox up and saw that there was an isdue with the rear calipers and many had been reported and recalled. My VIN doesn't show my calipers have been recalled. However, the GM site states if there is an issue with the rear breaks/ calipers to report it and Chevy will repair the issue. Many Chevy Equinox owners have taken to the internet to report the same issue, there are also reports that only 166 were recalled. This is clearly a manufacturing error and not normal wear & tear. I bought my 2020 Equinox brand new in 2021, it was unsold in 2020. Please help myself & the other Chevy Equinox owners make Chevy take responsibility & fix this error before people are injured or killed because our breaks give out unexpectedly.
The car shakes between 30-40 MPH, with or without acceleration. I’ve done a lot of research on this issue many people are having the same issue and can’t find a solution.
While driving down the road, my car completely stopped in the middle of traffic. It would not move, and I was stuck in the middle of the road. This is a safely issue because it could have caused a multiple vehicle pileup as my car came to a sudden halt and I was unable to move in the middle of traffic. The vehicle was towed to a Chevrolet dealership. It was determined by Chevrolet that the fuel pump module was not sending the proper signal to the fuel pump. The fuel pump module was replaced. There was no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the incident.
I received a service brake module warning and then the vehicle became difficult to stop. I was not traveling at typical highway speeds at the time, but I was on the highway. After applying extensive pressure on the brake pedal to stop, the engine lost power and stalled. It was towed to a dealership and determined that vacuum booster pump experienced a catastrophic failure.
Brake assist fail
I was driving and the “service brake assist” light came on and I then the brake pedal became stiff and so hard to push! I was driving on the expressway and almost couldn’t stop my car. No warning at all. It happened as soon as the light came on.
The same part that is causing a recall for 2021-22 models just went out on my 2020. Why aren't the 2020's recalled? This is causing it to be hard to get the part. It's the fuel pump control module. 2020's need to be included in this recall. My car is only 4 years old, and is just past the warranty (47k miles). I should not be having such trouble with it.
I was operating the vehicle when it suddenly shut off in traffic. I attempted to restart the vehicle and received a "reduced engine power" and "Service brake assist" message. The vehicle had a clunky noise and failed to restart. Upon inspection at the dealership, I was told that the vacuum pump inside the engine had exploded and sent metal components throughout the engine system. No previous issues or warnings were present prior to this failure. This is a safety issue as the vehicle gave no warning signs of issue and shut off in the flow of traffic with very little ability to brake or steer out of the way.
Adaptive cruise turn off and vehicle immediately decelerates. When traveling at highway speed with someone following closely behind you there is no warning that you’re decelerating. Also when this happens all cameras are off.
The Vacuum pump has exploded 3 times, twice under warranty and now outside warranty. This time it has taken out the camshaft.
The sunroof drains on my vehicle keep getting clogged with debris even though I don't open the sunroof. I have had to get the drains blown out every 1 to 2 months when I find water in the rear cargo area. Attached are invoices from the dealership showing the work done and how often. An Engineer from GM has determined on April 10th that if these drains are frequently clogged, then it is a "Vehicle Concern". GM says that this is a maintenance issue. However, THEY have been doing this "maintenance" ever 1 to 2 months and the drains keep getting blocked. This can't be right! I don't want mold to grow in my car. A prior Equinox that I owned was "totaled" by my insurance company because water leaked into that car and mold grew in the interior.
[XXX] My wife received a warning light that the Brake fluid was low, upon the husband checking under the hood after cleaning the reservoir cap and opening the cap and looking inside of the reservoir I could see that there was no visible brake fluid in there. Using another car I purchased Prestone Dot 3 and filled the reservoir it, it took 8 oz out of 12 oz. The 2020 Equinox Premier only has 34,500 miles. On [XXX] I have an appointment to bring the vehicle to Midas via being towed because of this issue, it is not safe to drive there. The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the vehicle was designed with two electric parking brakes. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the electric parking brake engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the rear brake calipers were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH on a slippery road, the electric parking brake engaged inadvertently, causing the rear wheels to lock, and the vehicle spun. The contact stated that he was able to regain control of the vehicle and drove to the residence at slow speeds. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly while driving. The contact stated that while investigating the failure online, he learned that it was a common failure that occurred because the electric parking brake was not fully retracted. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
In June of 2023 the brake booster vacuum pump failed, I took it to my regular repair shop and paid for it to be repaired. March 1, 2024 I was driving out of town and again the brakes failed, took it to Weimar Chevrolet in Cumberland MD to once again after less than 10,000 miles to be repaired again. Thankfully the dealership coordinated with the original repair shop and was able to do the repair this time at not cost to me (except I had to pay for a rental for 4 days)
On going issue since August 2023. Same issues that a class action suit was filed but did not incude the 2020 model. This has happened in Aug 2023, Oct 2023 and now Feb 2024. Low oil pressure Engine power is reduced I have been towed 3 times I have dealt with Castriota Chevrolet, Hudson FL where I purchased the car who would not speak with me I have dealt with Chevrolet of Milford who claims I only needed an oil change but since August this is the 3rd time this is happening and Jonathan does not return my call I have sent all my Invoices and expenses this has cost since it happened to Chevrolet Corp and filed a complaint but they said there was nothing they could do, this is the case number and contact person Selinda Chevrolet Customer Assistance Service Request Number:[XXX] Phone Number: 1-866-790-5600, Extension: 5912260 I contacted the States Attorney office and they advised I contact you, so here I am. I have photos, invoices and receipts to back up everything and the things there is not enough room to fit in this space. This car is a hazard to me, the drivers on the road, my family and grandchildren I pick up daily. It does not belong on the road or traded in to have someone else have these issues. You do not get any warning, it just happens. The class action suit was for this problem up to 2017 models. This is what is in the suit: The lawsuit stresses that operating a car without sufficient engine oil is dangerous and can lead to an engine fire or an increased risk of accidents. Per the suit, GM itself warns drivers in its owners’ manuals to stop driving if their car’s oil pressure is low, stating that the engine “can become so hot that it catches fire.” The lawsuit goes on to stress that if an affected vehicle’s engine is damaged enough, it could fail to accelerate properly or shut down unexpectedly while the car is being driven. This could lead to an accident or leave drivers and their passengers stranded in an unsafe location, the suit says. Vehicle stalling, smell of fuel in oil. Dealer reported - high-pressure fuel pump failure, excessive fuel in crank case. Vehicle stalled/misfiring CEL present. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer from an island. Dealer will not warranty the part. Vehicle had less than 3,000 miles. Yes, three thousand miles.
Hit my brakes and had nothing but a hard pedal NO BRAKES AT ALL! This almost caused a major accident being speed limit is 70 and I could not stop the car. There was no warning light until I shut it off and turned it back on then lights blinked and said brake assist failure then the warning disappeared once again. This is very scary and I cannot believe there were other reports and nothing has been recalled.
Brake control lost with no warning. Friend whom bought same car 2 days after me experienced same scenario around October 2023. I just dropped off my kid and I was coming off the highway! I could have killed others and if happened 20 mins prior my children! I'm a single mom and my kids only have me. There's no way this is coincidence on the same make, model, year! There has to be a faulty brake system that needs addressed before people do die!! I've been without my car for 3 days now and no one has answers!
The brake system failed without any indication it would do so. The dealership acknowledged the car brake pedal was not able to be moved when attempting to stop the vehicle and the vehicle did not stop by use of the brakes. The Equinox is no longer in my possession and was bought by Dick Genthe Chevrolet. The safety of myself, my 11 year old daughter and the drivers around me were put at risk due to the brakes locking up with no prior notice or indication this would happen. The brakes locked up as I was exiting the expressway and I had to turn the car on a side street and let it coast in order for it to stop. GM and Dick Genthe Chevrolet take no accountability for the incident and instead told me that the car worked well the first four years at least. In January 2024 the check engine light came on and I had it checked in the service department by the manager and the P code that came back was a sensor issue and the service manager said that it was nothing serious and the car was safe and the check engine light would likely go off on its own in two days or so. After the brakes had already failed, a "service brakes" warning message showed in the display and the check engine light came on.
My son was just in his car seat with the seat belt as an extra layer of protection and the seat belt wouldn’t retract. My son was stuck. Thank god it wasn’t an accident. Passenger side back seat belt. This needs to be dealt with. It took me 30 mins because I was trying to get it to retract and it started to squeeze my baby legs. I did take a video. It only lets me upload photos. Please contact me
I got this car in April of 2022. I am the second owner. Since May of 2022 every time I drive for longer than an hour the radio completely shuts off by itself and comes back on. I've taken it back to the dealership they drove for 5mins and stated radio did not shut off even though I told them they did not drive long enough. In January of 2024 while out shopping I go to start vehicle and it has power but won't start. I had the same issue in November of 2023 took it to dealership they stated nothing wrong with it. I called roadside in January 2024 power was on vehicle would not start. I ended up having to get vehicle towed to my home and had a mechanic come to me. Told me I needed a new motherboard. Paid for the new motherboard yet radio still cuts off. This has been an issue for far too long and is messing other systems up in the vehicle. I also had to have battery replaced and am still in need of four tires because the wheel spokes are rusted. A four year old car with this much trouble is not worth the headache.
Fuel pump, failure just under 25,000 miles. Car stopped running, when not expected. 01/31/2024
Experienced brake issues in March of 2022, brake pedal became extremely stiff and difficult to use. Bulletin showed an issue with vacuum brake pump and that was replaced with the exact same faulty part. On 12/28/2023 my engine blew in the middle of the road, leaving myself and my children stranded as I could not shift the vehicle out of neutral for quite sometime. The faulty vacuum brake pump caused the cam to break off the shaft- resulting in debris inside the engine.
This model has an acceleration problem like its older counterparts. While on the interstate and in traffic it chooses to decelerate and almost cut off. No prior warning given.
I was driving on the highway on my way to work and received the error message “engine power reduced”. My car immediately dropped speed and I was unable to go over 40mph. My check engine light came on. I made it to work and contacted the dealer to make an appointment to bring the car in, which I did as soon as I finished working for the day. Driving 30-40mph with my hazards on for almost 50 miles on a highway where the minimum speed limit is 55 was hazardous in itself. I was almost run off the road by a truck and cars were honking and passing me. I am a [XXX] and have driven many cars in my lifetime. I have never experienced this type of scare. I took to the dealer and they advised “CAC frozen and the parts need replacement”. They said it’s not a warranty issue. The repair cost is $3000 and this car is only 3 years old. I found an existing recall on this same model car and year for this same issue - but they advised that my car wasn't affected in this recall. Apparently, this car is exhibiting these same issues. I contacted Chevrolet and they are trying to escalate. In the meantime, I have no vehicle, and told the dealer to halt any repairs until Chevrolet gets back to me. I have taken great care of this car. I start my car and allow it to warm up at least 20-30 minutes in the winter. I also make sure that I get all my oil changes and have all preventive maintenance done as required. This issue could not have been prevented by me - but it could have been prevented by the car manufacturer. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving at about 25 miles per hour and the vehicle made a banging noise and shut off. I went to restart and nothing would happen. I then had it towed to a local dealership. Upon evaluation the vacuum pump went out and caused catastrophic engine failure. I purchased brand new and there was no indication I had a problem. The vehicle was making no noise and no lights were on prior to the incident. I am told the repairs to the motor on a vehicle 3 years old are going to be $4,500. I have told the dealership I would like all of the parts that are removed and replaced from the vehicle when repairing
PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE—replaced now transmission issues. UNKNOWN—everything that’s recalled I’m having those problems
I was driving my car and it shut down in the middle of traffic on the freeway on [XXX] I thought I was dead I almost had a accident the car started back up and it did it again 4 times I am afraid to drive the car when it shuts down the steering wheel locks up and nothing happens I am so afraid of this Equinox please help. Not knowing what to do went to the dealer guy did a simply scan on the car and tried to sell me a car instead of trying to find the cause I am just so upset I love my car please please help me. Premature headlamp (low beam) failure. The light abruptly failed and it was acknowledged by the manufacturer that this should not have occurred. The failure occurred in October of 2023. Light fixture has since been replaced. The low beam bulb is not accessible for replacement in our vehicle. Instead the entire headlight assembly has to be replaced. The estimated cost for a single replacement was approx $2,600.00. After back and forth with the manufacturer they agreed to replace both headlight assemblies for approximately $1,900.00. A previous recall was issued for GM vehicles in the early 2000s that had similar premature headlight failures. This poses a safety risk because vehicles of this age are likely to still be financed and owners are unlikely to be able to afford a near $3,000 repair for a low beam headlight manufacturing defect. Please note the mileage on the vehicle was roughly 42k. There is the potential that owners will be forced to operate the vehicle with failed headlight(s) while the manufacturer refuses to fully acknowledge it is a manufacturing defect.
During the month of November while driving on Interstate 35 inTexas I attempted to administer my braking system during slowed traffic and they did not respond. The brake pedal became completely stiff and I had to apply incredible pressure to get the vehicle to slow down until I turned on my hazards and rolled to a stop on the shoulder. I did not have any alerts or warnings until I powered the vehicle off and powered back on to find my engine light on and the service brake assist alert on as well. I had it towed for service to which they replaced the vacuum pump, brake booster pressure sensor and brake fluid. Everything seemed to be working fine however a month later the same exact issue occurred. I took it in to the same place for service and had a brake inspection done and was told everything looked good and they were not sure what was wrong other than the ecm and ebcm were now reading codes. The issue is that this is intermittent with no warning and has been incredibly difficult to pinpoint the exact issue. This has also been incredibly pricey trying to chase an issue that appears one day and clears itself the next and lastly this has been terrifyingly frustrating as I do not know if i will have valid brake control or not on each ride. This issue could be life or death and was traumatizing as I had my son and mother in the car with me during the first event.
I was traveling the interstate I90/94 , merged to the exit ramp and found the brake pedal hard and unable to push to brake. I had to slide the car into neutral and use two feet on the brake pedal to slow down enough to make the corner at the end of the off ramp. All due to a faulty vacuum pump. The debris from the exploded vacuum pump were sent through the engine. And after having the car fixed it now uses about a quart of oil every 500 miles. Engine is shot! Seriously bad engineering design that will kill someone if it hasn't already. I am 5'11" and weigh 190 lbs. I estimate it took around 200-250 lbs of force to push the pedal to even start to slow. If I hadn't had over 40 years of driving experience, this would have ended in a catastrophic incident.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds speed, an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the rear brake calipers had failed and needed to be replaced. The mechanic replaced the rotors and the calipers; however, the contact stated the failure returned while driving at slow speeds. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V704000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and linked the failure to the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
On 10/19/2023, I came out of a store and saw a large puddle forming under my 2020 Chevy Equinox and fluid spilling out. I immediately drove it to the car repair business I have used for 10 years, which was less than one mile away. The bottom line was a cracked gas tank. They confirmed the warranty had expired in February of 2023, so with no reason to think otherwise, I had them order and replace the gas tank. I filed a report with GMC, only to be told that since I didn't have an authorized GMC dealership make the repairs, there was nothing they could do, to reimburse me. I felt that this as an emergency situation, not only for myself but others around me. I'm not sure how I was supposed to know to take it elsewhere. The bottom line is this...how can a vehicle that is only just over 3 years old, need a new gas tank? This is not typical and should be investigated.
Faulty Brake Booster Vacuum code on after 60,000 miles
There was not an accident. I was leaving work on 9/16/23 and tried to start the car and it wouldn’t turn over. I got assistance from a friend that had jumper cables because I thought it might be the battery, but it wasn’t. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealership to find that these fuel module was defective. I see in the Google information that this sane issue was placed on the recall list for 2021-23 Chevrolet Equinox’s, but not on my 2020 model. The cost of this repair was very costly, and frustrating because I have only had the vehicle for one year to the day of this issue. I’m hoping that this problem can be recalled so that I can possibly be reimbursed for the nearly $1,000 I paid to have it repaired.
2020 Chevy equinox vacuum pump. Impossible to get the part, safety hazard, no accident yet, takes 2 feet to hold peddle down. No Chevy dealer will help me, i need to go to work.
Attempted to start braking while in high traffic. Brake assist came on and prevented the car from braking properly, almost causing a crash on the highway with the car in front. The brakes had to pressed extremely hard and the e brake had to be engaged in order to stop. Since then the brake assist has not turned off and the vehicle is not safe to drive.
Driving and brakes went out with no warning, no sounds, no anything almost causing me to rear end a 16 wheeler in the dead of night and almost causing another passenger to rear end me! No fluids are leaking. Break fluid not low. The brakes will not go to the floor in reverse, neutral, or drive. I had to get a Uber and get the car towed back home. Upon research it is apparent that this is a known problem in Chevrolets, specifically the 2020 equinox model with the vacuum pumps or something randomly going out while driving. This is very dangerous and I could have lost my life or caused someone else to loose their life! I just got my car a few months ago and it says” no unrepaired safety recalls reported” however this is clearly a known defect that was not bought to my attention upon purchasing the car.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. While driving, the vehicle was sputtering. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump driver module was defective. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V667000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 29,165.
Got hit at 40 miles an hour in a parking lot while a running dog came through and it was caotic
System states rear seat reminder. Look in rear seat. Look in rear seats. This is a hazard to my infant as his car seat is located in the back seats behind the passenger.
Fuel pump and module failed. Car started but left me stranded less than a mile from my house. It had to be towed to a repair shop.
The suv is slow or delayed in acceleration. Pushing your foot on the gas pedal the suv will have a delay on acceleration. It is dangerous while trying to merge into traffic. Chevrolet knows its a known issue. It is a safety concern.
Was backing out of driveway to street, Car stalled in the street and would not restart. Took to dealership which indicates that fuel pump shorted, fuel pump modulator issue, fuel injectors need to be cleaned/replaced and that spark plug need to be replaced. I have done regular oil changes on this Vehicle and only has 66050 miles on it. It was purchased as a new vehicle January 2021. Mileage is partly highway due to child away in at college. Check engine light came on before stall and code indicated that engine running lean which was told to shop when I took vehicle in several weeks ago indicating engine not operating properly. No warning light on when checked by shop, was told that they could not find issue. Several weeks later vehicle stalls and now needs approximately $3200 worth of parts and work done.
The brake assist warning light flashed and the electric components start blinking and the car went in reverse in traffic. The car then turnt off.
Driving on trip to New York and lost the brake assist system halfway there. No alerts or engine lights came on as they should have. Luckily we were coming up to stop light so not going to fast but almost hit car in front of us. We had no warning and this is a known problem with these cars.
vehicle STALLED WHILE PULLING OUT FROM STOP. STRUGGLED TO RESTART AFTER STALLING. believed FUEL PROBLEM BECAUSE ENGINE TURNING OVER WHEN START BUTTON PUSHED BUT NOT SOUNDING LIKE STARTED LIKE NO IGNITION IN ENGINE. when IT DID START IT STALLED AGAIN. AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE, VEHICLE STARTED. Several days later car soppt
discover that alternator is possible problem of stalling and car hard starting due to battery being low and reduced electrical power to use start. Wonder if power is reduce to fuel pump???
Car will not accelerate over 25mph…oil leaking from somewhere…car starts rattling and making putt noises…car now randomly blinks headlights and interior lights when idle flashing off and on…sunroof will not close but goes back—shade as well. Radio screens turns black and stays on while car is off. I HATE THIS CAR!!!
This vehicle starts glitching after exposure to rain. All of the gauges start going up and down, and every action required message pops up one after the other stating "Fuel Level Low, Shift to Park, Park Assist Off, All Wheel Drive System, Service Power Steering, ESC". The vehicle does this while driving at low to high speeds, even on the highways it has happened, the brakes are hard to push in while this is happening. This puts me and others in high danger if I cannot control the vehicle while driving. I have taken the vehicle in over 6 times to the service department of GM and not one time has anything been done. They have been unsuccessful in duplicating the problem every time I've brought it in even when it is occurring.
When I was driving my vehicle, I came up to a red light and my brake pedal was hard and I could not stop the vehicle. The brakes would not work when I tried to stop. With fast acting and thinking, I was able to pull over to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me, luckily no other cars were around at that time. Mine and my child's safety were at risk when the vehicle would not stop and we could have been in an accident from the brakes not working. The vehicle is currently at the dealership getting diagnosed. No warning sings, warning lamps, messages or other signs happened before, during, or after the failure of the brakes. The brake pedal was so hard you could not push it down at all.
While driving 25 mph in town on a straight road my 2020 Equinox 4D 1LT steering pulled to the right with out any reason and I hit a parked vehicle. I was not distracted, did not hit a pot hole, tire pressure and tread were all good. This road is near my house and have traveled on it many times. The car just turned to the right and hit the parked vehicle before I could react to the steering problem. This is a very unsafe condition. I feel it had to do with the electric steering. I just purchased this car from a reputable Chevy dealer. I’m a careful driver and have never had an accident before.
I was driving home from work, just got off the highway, and when I was about to turn into my apartment complex, i went to push on the brake to slow down, and I noticed I couldn't push down on the brake at all. Luckily, it was later in the evening and no other cars were around at the time of the incident. There was no prior warning that popped up before that. My car didn't stop until I pulled the parking brake and then the "service brake assist" message popped up finally. No accident occurred but I am pretty shaken up considering how different the outcome could have been if I was on the highway for myself and if there was any other car involved. I will be taking it to the dealership in a few days.
All Wheel Drive System - 3/20/23 I was on a County maintained dirt road where adjacent property owner had put fencing, tires, & other trash in the road to stop public use. As I had all wheel drive I went up on a 3' +/- side berm to get around. When the front end was approximately at the top, car started to slip & rear passenger tire "tried" to correct slip & car switched into low without my touching gear shift (I looked). From having a 2005 Equinox with AWD, I knew this was AWD going into action. When car did not change drive wheels like my 2005, I let off on the gas; turned nose downhill, slide/roll down hill. At bottom, I applied gas & car was still in low - it shouldn't have been with the emergency over. It stayed in low even as I applied more gas. I stopped car, put it in park; waited 2 +/- minutes for a reset. When I accelerated again, it was still in low. I put it into park & turn it off. Only after 2 +/- minutes off did car finally automatically switch gears as I accelerated. As I had 60,000 miles on the car & was advised by Victorville Chevy to have transmission service & did at Diamond Chevy, San Bernardino as Victorville Chevy would not even write up a work order after the "electronic check" device inserted into car failed to note a problem sitting in the parking lot. After "the check" at VV, I made an appointment at Diamond Chevy in San Bernardino. This car while having nothing on the CarFax had a broken rear bumper cover which was "repair" after I reported it just after purchase 5/21. Bumper then, didn't hold when I backed into wire gate. At the very least, styrofoam, was collapsed/broken in the prior to purchase accident and not repaired when the bumper cover was glued & painted. I was told my car was "safe" after the bumper "repair." My guess that a more than 3 mph rear collision would total the car. That is not safe in my opinion. PLEASE NOTE THESE WERE NOT THE ONLY TWO PROBLEMS. MY OPINION IS THAT IT IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM.
I was driving on the highway when suddenly my brakes became stuck and I was unable to stop. I was able to safely maneuver to the side of the highway with the help of quick thinking and my parking brake. However, no warning lights or messages appeared from my car directly prior to the event. Although I was safe, this could have had a fatal outcome for either myself or other drivers on the highway had I not been able to move to the side of the highway quickly. My car is currently at a dealership for the weekend and I am awaiting them opening this week so they will be able to perform a full inspection. A sheriff presented to the scene when this happened as I had my hazard lights on while on the side of the road and he did a visual inspection of the hood of my car as well. I am extremely concerned regarding the unprompted failure of my brake system and lack of warning prior.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, she depressed the brake pedal to slow the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to respond. As a result, the contact had to apply pressure and pump the brake pedal several times to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to navigate the vehicle off the roadway. The vehicle was then towed to Tires Plus where it was diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, he depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to respond. As a result, the contact had to apply pressure and pumped the brake pedal approximately ten to fifteen times before the vehicle stopped. The contact then engaged the parking brake. The vehicle was taken to Tires Plus where it was diagnosed that the brake vacuum pump had exploded and caused damage to the camshaft. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was scheduled to take the vehicle to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000
My 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, while accelerating, will give off a Service Warning "ESC", along with flashing check engine light, and continuous lighted oil & traction control. Once I pull over, shut the car down and restart it goes away. This happens at least once a month, and is very scary. I had taken it to the dealership before my warranty ended, and all they did was change a spark plug. This is a huge issue for a car that is less than 3 years old.
The equinox completely lost power (engine AND electrical) turned off while the vehicle was in drive on the road. Once at a complete stop, I pushed the brake and start button. The car attempted to start for a few seconds (clicking sound) then finally started back up. This is a major safety concern. Luckily I was able to get the car running again with no issues but if it had not turned back on, I would have been stranded on the road with no power to even put my emergency caution lights on. Thankfully I was not on the expressway going the speed limit or at a busy intersection. I could have been in a car accident because I was stalled with zero power to the entire vehicle. The vehicle was eventually towed to a Chevrolet dealership and the ECM was reprogrammed and the vehicle is back in my possession.
Vehicle failed to start while parked at a retail store. Vehicle was towed to a Chevrolet Dealer. Diagnosis revealed a fault fuel pump control module. Dealer declared the part not under warranty. Owner paid $566 for repair. GM Bulletin PIP5719A shows Identical failures being reported on a variety of models with a variety of engines. The problem appears to have been corrected with the 2021 model year. Owner feels the faulty fuel pump control module should be under warranty longer than 24,000 miles. Owner seeks reimbursement from the manufacturer.
The brakes stop working
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed on the highway, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact also stated that there was water intrusion into the passenger’s side taillight. The contact was made aware of TSB: 22-NA-170 and related the failures to the battery and taillight. The contact made a local dealer aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was advised to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.
i’ve been experiencing not one or twice but more than 5 times. when i’m about to stop my car stalled and can’t even used my hazard light which is not safe in the dark area. hope nhtsa will see this one to avoid future accident. oh brake sensor is already been replaces by the dealer last year. but it still keep on stalling.
The P0556 code gets stored when the PCM has detected a problem with the brake booster pressure sensor circuit because of abnormal feedback. Braking distance significantly affected by brake pedal becoming difficult to depress. Cause is the brake booster vacuum pump. Internet reports indicate multiple vehicle types during the late 20-teens and early 2020s. Problems are occurring during or shortly after warranty expiration. This is a very dangerous problem that could cause serious injury.

The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power, and she was able to coast off to the side of the road. The contact stated that she attempted to restart the vehicle, but only heard a clicking sound when she would depress the START/STOP button. The contact stated that unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the vacuum pump had seized, causing the pistons to continue running which severely damaged the engine. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

They finished oil in 2000 miles and doesn’t appear any warning
Vehicle had 3 warning go off while driving. Vehicle engine is shaking. It decelerate and I couldn’t go over 35. No power going up hill. Traction controls shut off, check engine, and SEC service came on. Now messages of braking system and emission from on star. Had a similar incident over thanksgiving and I was told I needed an oil change because there was low oil. My car was at 58% for oil change. Now I’m at 83% and it shouldn’t need oil. There have been multiple issues with lag time from pushing the gas to engaging. This vehicle has had more issue than any other Chevy I have owned. Transmission seals off the lot. This is not building confidence in safety at all.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving into her driveway, the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated shifted into park(P) and then turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired and was awaiting a scheduled service appointment at the local dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,500.
The brake vacuum pump went bad while driving the car
I was driving out in the country on 1-41 towards West Union. The steering tightened up and came up with a sensor that said Power steering ESC. The car went offroad due to the steering tightening from the power steering going out in the vehicle. I contacted the dealer, Mike Castrucci Chevrolet, and they told me that I would have to pay for any problems with this vehicle and I have only had the vehicle for 3 weeks. I put $2000 down on this vehicle and now am in a deathtrap due to this issue. The vehicle only has 60,800 miles and feel now that this issue could put my life and others at risk due to a faulty steering issue. I do not understand why this vehicle has driven beautifully to this point and yet there are many Chev Malibus that have that problem. How long will it take before someone recognizes this problem. There were no warnings before and I could have gotten myself and my friend killed in this car driving at night in the country. I spoke with an AutoZone representative and he said that he had a Chev Malibu with the same issue. They discovered that it was the power steering motor having to do with the traction control. I guess that I will be forced to keep driving this vehicle, and if there is an accident, then I should hold liability to be General Motors and Mike Castrucci Chevrolet who refuse to fix this car. When I took the vehicle, I was promised that they would stand by their car. I am getting no help with this situation. However, this is my only vehicle so I will keep this on the road until this is resolved. If you should wish to contact me, my number is [XXX]. Engine power reduced keeps appearing Check engine light still on after oil change Oil is always empty after an oil change Leaking oil gasket
Adaptive Cruise control, and Automatic emergency Braking intermittently fail to function.
My brake pedal became hard as a rock requiring all of the leg strength I had to stop vehicle followed by a Brake Booster warning light and an email from OnStar. My concern here is GM eliminated that foot/hand operated emergency/parking brake leaving no backup method to stop in an emergency. Women, for the most part, and inexperienced drivers would not have the strength or knowledge to push on the brake pedal as hard as possible to stop the vehicle. Once they pushed with normal pressure and the vehicle didn't stop there would be an accident. In my case I was traveling at 45 mph in congested multi lane traffic on the inside of four lanes when traffic suddenly stopped leaving me about 2 seconds to react.
My vehicle’s star is being illegally tapped into and accessed on a regular basis with individuals using a coding method and/or a device. I have made numerous attempts to prevent this by purchasing rfid pouches, clothes to avoid key fob intrusion. This has access has also opened the intrusion to my iPhones, iPads, tvs, refrigerators, etc. I ask that you start an investigation and also demand an update to these security issues. While I’m driving, the car is an open source as well as when the car is off.
My car notified me that i had a low tire. I put air in it. A few days later i would get another notification my tire was low I had a slow leak in my tire. Took tire into tire shop and was told my rim was cracked on the inside. I am still under factory warranty. I called the dealership and was told to bring the rim/tire and the vehicle in so they could take pictures of the crack in the rim, the car and the vin #. The service tech submitted everything to GM. GM denied the claim and said it was not a defect on their end. The dealership offered to order a new rim at our cost of $938.50 and would be available the next day.
Computer issues, dash sceen glitching freezing or not workimg correctly. Hard shifting and idling. Steer asist reduced msg. Gears geeting stuck
I own a 2020 Equinox with a VIN of 2GNAXUEV1L6226983 and is still covered under the manufacture warranty. I am experiencing the technical issues reported in the Service Bulletin concerning the climate control odor when the engine restarts which affects 2020 to 2022 model year Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. I have contacted both the dealership I purchased the vehicle from and the General Motors Customer Service Hotline. Both have indicated to me that my VIN is not listed on the Service Bulletin and that I would have to pay out of pocket for the correction.
While driving the Brake pedal became very hard to press and stopping distance increased greatly. the check engine light and service brake light on the dash became illuminated. After looking online it became apparent that there are a lot of people with Chevrolet vehicles equipped with the 1.5L engine that had the same problem and the cause was a faulty vacuum pump. I removed the vacuum pump and it has broken pieces that have fallen off of it and are now inside of the engine and will need more engine components removed to have access to remove all of the metal fragments.
We received a message on our in car display that said reduced engine power and the check engine light came on. We stopped, we raised the hood to investigate and there was oil all over the engine and engine compartment, as well as under the vehicle. The oil dipstick was out of its place by about 2”-2 1-2” That is where the oil came from. When I refilled the crankcase to replace the engine oil that was lost, it took about 3-3 1/2 quarts to refill (oil capacity is 4.5 quarts). When taken to the dealer for service, they said there was gasoline in the oil and that the engine oil needed to be changed. Once the oil was changed and the vehicle was test driven, the dealership said there was no gas in the oil, but gave no explanation as to what caused the oil dipstick to become raised from its normal position allowing the oil to escape. Oil and gas could cause a fire on board the vehicle. Oil could also get on the tires as well as the highway, causing a loss of traction and control of the vehicle, as well as other vehicles and drivers that ran into the oil/gas that fell from the vehicle to the road surface.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that as she slows to a stop and depresses the brake pedal the vehicle jerks and goes backward before coming to a full stop. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle had not been taken to a local dealer or mechanic and was not diagnosed or repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a constant smell of gasoline vapor in the cabin which makes the contact dizzy. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The vehicle studders, stops, stalls, and or dies upon starting the car. It is due to lack of fuel to fuel rail. The trouble it produces is P129F nothing else. Even trying to prime the vehicles fuel pump following manufacturers steps for doing so does not work. The only way I have been able to get it to have fuel to the rails (reliably) is to push it and jump in and try to start it.
I had just exited off of the highway and I was approaching the red light ahead my brakes became hard to push and they did not stop the vehicle. I ran through the red light in sheer panic. Was able to pull into a bank parking lot and when I turned the vehicle off and then back on the "brake assist" notification came up. I called my local Chevy Service but at that point I was on a trip from Fort Worth to Houston and was halfway in the middle closest to Waco. I drove it to the nearest dealership 30 miles. I had to leave the vehicle for 5 days. The diagnoses was no vacuum to brake booster pump. A total of $504. They said pumps are not included in powertrain warranty and I just passed the bumper to bumper warranty. I Had to get a hotel for the night. Then get a family member to drive 3 1/2 hours to come get me and my 2 daughters. My main concern is if anybody else had been coming through that intersection when my brakes failed it could have been a really bad accident. I had gone from a 75mph speed limit and was still going 35 mph when they stopped working.
Vehicle intermittent brake catches, lights come sometimes, door locks open and close, engine light comes on and last time system locked completely and could get vehicle into gear. Had to have it towed. Second time into dealer service, now on 4th week and GM factory unable to determine problem and solution. Copy of my letter sent to General Motors for remedy of my Equinox problems not solved. Consumer's 2020 Chevrolet Equinox has developed multiple defects that cannot be fixed.. The brakes will suddenly catch, the lights come on on their own, door locks will lock and unlock intermittently and it will lock up so we cannot get it into gear. The engine light remains on. First in for service 4/18/22 for one week. Problem not fixed. Now in second time and dealer has had it for three weeks. GM techs have been unable to determine problem solutions... (Car interior torn apart).

Driving down a state road going about 60 miles an hour. it’s 49° outside and raining. I had the heat on. the next thing I know there’s a loud bang and glass everywhere. for no apparent reason my sunroof exploded
Car has been brought in three times for wobble at speeds of 39 mph accelerating shaking steering wheel. Dealer continues to just add weights to tires and problem does not go away.
When my car is parked (no emergency brake on) on a SLIGHT incline & the driveway is completely dry, it slides down the driveway 10-20 feet in its own with the wheels turning. It has happened at 4 times & once someone was trying to get out & it was frightening. It’s ended up on the sidewalk where it could hit pedestrians. I can’t drive an UNSAFE vehicle & the dealer says since they can’t replicate it, they can’t fix it (as if I’m lying that it happened) & to just always use the emergency brake even though the car manual doesn’t say anything about that being how the car works.
The issue is not consistent so dealership will not be able to solve the issue. No warning lights. No components have not been inspected by manufacturer. Issue occurs when it wants to. When in auto stop and vechile wants to start back up, vechile loses all power, windshield wipers turn on for few seconds then vechile starts back up. Seems like a reset. This is very dangerous when sitting at Inersections. This is happened several times.
The spare tire from the factory doesn’t clear the brake caliper on the front hub. Was on a major highway in the rain and at nighttime with a flat tire. I went to put the spare on and it didn’t fit over the caliber. Had to put the flat back on then take the tire off the rear and put the spare on the rear and use the good rear tire to put on the front because the spare didn’t fit. I called GM they put a case together and I had the car looked at from the dealership with now outcome as of the date of this complaint.
Vehicle caught fire while parked and turned off.
Water pump failure noticed on 2/17/22. Engine noise sounded like loose engine belt. Car taken to Beaty Chevrolet dealership in Knoxville, TN. Problem confirmed failed water pump at 14,804 miles. Dealer replaced pump quickly. Concerned about long term engine issues due to water pump failure. No warning Lites or indication of failure from car systems.
TCS and ESC came off after a needed full throttle acceleration. This happened 3 times. After reading groups on the internet, seems is a common problem with the sensors on Equinox.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while pulling to a stoplight when they noticed the brakes squeaking and they began to smell like overheated brakes. The vehicle's brakes started dragging from the rear and the brake pad sticks to the roader. The failure occurred approximately 3-4 times. The dealer had not been able to identify the cause of the failure. The contact noticed that their failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19v704000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). The manufacturer was made aware and confirmed their VIN was not included. The contact was directed to file a complaint with NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
EXPERIENCED SEVERE SHAKING IN STEERING AND SUSPENSION WHILE ACCELERATING, USUALLY STARTING AT THE 2-3 SHIFT. AT 12,836 MILES LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT HALF SHAFTS FAILED DUE TO 'EXCESSIVE LATERAL RUNOUT' . BULLETIN 20-NA-227 APPLIED(AS PER DEALER) AND BOTH REPLACED. NOW AT 21,500 MILES, THE SAME ISSUES ARE OCCURRING AGAIN. WHEN IT HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE BECOMES DIFFICULT TO STEER AND I'M CONCERNED SHOULD A TOTAL FAILURE OCCUR WHILE I'M DRIVING. INITIAL PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 4000 MILES BUT ONLY OCCURRED VERY SPORADICALLY.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle had intermittent shaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer replaced the front driver's and passenger's side axle shafts under TSB 20-NA-227. The failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 12,800. The VIN was invalid.
The car started making a terrible noise. I went to the dealer. They said it was the transfer case. 10 days to get part. Now they say it’s the rear differential. Another 10 days. There was no warning on the dash. The fear for me is do a 6 hour trip. Afraid of what else can happen.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while his wife was driving at an unknown speed, the power steering assist and brake assist warning lights were illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brake module to be replaced. The brake module was replaced, and the brake fluid was flushed. The vehicle was repaired but experienced failure the following day. The contact took the vehicle back to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the shoulder nut on the brake module to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but experienced failure while leaving the dealer. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,418. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE WAS DETERMINED TO BE A BAD BATTERY.
While having the right of way driving thru an intersection, going approximately 40 mph, another vehicle disregarded a stop sign and t-boned my vehicle on the drivers side. My vehicle was pushed off the road and came to rest in a ditch. Impact was directly on the drivers side door which sustained severe damage. My vehicle also sustained damage to front corner panel along with damage to the rear driver side door. Driver side-impact curtain airbag did not deploy on my vehicle. My vehicle was declared a total loss by insurance company. The at faults front end sustained severe damage and driver and passenger front airbags both deployed.
We purchased the car with an option package the specifically included fog lights. Because of local weather conditions and reduced driving related to the pandemic, we never had the need to use the fog lights. Recently, we were driving in the Finger Lake region of New York at night when fog started to form. That's when we realized the car was built with no fog light switch. Since returning home, I checked another car like it in the neighborhood. It too was built with fog lights and no fog light switch. I checked with GM and they indicated that there should be a specific control button to turn the fog lights on and off. It would be nice to be able to use the equipped fog lights when driving conditions include fog.
These tires came on my brand new car that is less than a year old (21000 miles). I went for an oil change and the dealership told me I have 3/32nds on my tires! Bridgestone new about the rapid wear of these tires but never sent out any kind of notification about it. My dealership had a bulletin about the tires premature wearing. (#20-NA-159) Bridgestone said they are offering to cover 40% of replacement cost if I get the same tires otherwise they aren't giving anything.....I would NEVER EVER get these tires on my car.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving and making a left turn, the turn signal failed to operate as designed. The contact also noticed the center console screen went black and flickered off and on until she arrived at her residence. The contact stated the failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. An unknown software was updated however, a month later the failure recurred with the screen. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. Back in early October 2020, vehicle had about 2000 miles on it. I noticed that when I started up the vehicle The Brake Assist Service message came on the brakes were spongy and had vibrating feel. I drove about a half of a mile and the problem stopped. The engine light came on and stayed on but then went out. Everything was ok for about two weeks when it did it again light came on took it a dealer but light went off. They serviced the vehicle and seem that the problem had stopped. Then in Early April of 2021 it happened again. Took it to the same dealership, they replace some more parts. Week or two weeks later same issue. Took it back to the dealership. They replaced the engine control module. During all these times, an engine light would soon follow after the message about the brake assist message. Thought it was fixed. On June 14 2021 at 1:14PM started my vehicle up the SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST message came on called the dealership. The brakes were vibrating and were not smooth. I stopped and turned off the vehicle and restarted the vehicle message went away brakes appeared to be fine. This time however no engine came on. Dealership was willing to service the vehicle but if the engine light wasn't on it would hard to diagnosed. I took a picture of the message before it had clear. On July 8th 2021, at 2:08PM, I started my vehicle and the SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST message came on. I took a photo of it. I tested the brakes appear to be ok. Turned the vehicle off the message didn't show again. My son borrow the vehicle and he got into an accident the same day approximately 6 hours. He swerved to avoid hitting a deer. He said that brakes appeared not to slow him down. He left roadway and struck a tree head on. The vehicle caught fire and he was lucky to escape. The vehicle was destroyed by the fire and crash. Not putting blame on anyone because I know there were other contributing factors to the accident . I just wanted to report this because of past problems with GM.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving downhill at approximately 20-30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle instead independently accelerated and crashed through an electric gate. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. There was no warning light illuminated. There were no injuries sustained. The contact stated that the passenger’s side of the vehicle was severely damaged causing approximately $6,000 in damages to the vehicle and the electric gate. The vehicle was repaired, and the passenger’s side door was replaced. The contact stated that two days after the vehicle was picked up from the repair shop, while attempting to reverse out of a parking spot, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to stop in a reasonable amount of time. The contact stated that the vehicle slowly stopped and that the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,400. The Vin was invalid.
My car has been shaking upon acceleration since I bought it in December 2019. I've had it to Apple Chevrolet in Red Lion, PA 4 times for the same issue. They documented that this is a manufacturer issue with my model and are working on a solution. They also documented that my axels are going bad, but not bad enough to fix and I was told to "drive my car until it get's worse and bring it back."
AIR FLOW INTO THE FULL BODY THROTTLE DETACHING
ON MARCH 27, 2021 ENGINE RANDOMLY STARTED HAVING ISSUES WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' NOTIFICATION CAME ON. EVEN BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE CAR SHUT OFF AND HAD TO PUSH DOWN HARD ON GAS TO GET IT TO BACK UP BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T ACCELERATE BACK. WHEN I WAS COMING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION WHEN TURNING ONTO THE MAIN STREET AND THE CARS HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEHIND ME. DRIVING WAS ROUGH, WAS FEELING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO BREAKDOWN. I GOT THE CAR FIXED APRIL 1-2, 2021. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON APRIL 4, 2021.
I WAS DRIVING RADIO WENT BLACK COULD NOT TURN RADIO UP OR DOWN EVEN WHEN I TURNED IT OFF THE RADIO STAYED ON. THEN ON 3/23/2021 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE SUV JERKED A FEW TIME MADE A NOISE AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS BLINKING
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, RECEIVED "SERVICE ESC" WARNING ON THE DASHBOARD WITH 4 "LIGHTS" ON THE DASHBOARD. ABS LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, STABILITY CONTROL, AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHT. LANE KEEP ASSIST HAS BEEN DISABLED, FRONT COLLISION WARNING HAS BEEN DISABLED, AND FRONT PEDESTRIAN BRAKING HAS BEEN DISABLED. ALL OF THESE LIGHTS TURN ON AND OFF CONTINUOUSLY WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES WILL TURN OFF FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS AND TURN BACK ON.
I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH MY CAR STALLING, THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AND THE CAR WAS SHAKING. WHEN THE CAR WAS STOPPED, THERE WAS ALSO SHAKING. AFTER THE CAR WOULD GET GOING, THE SHAKING WOULD STOP, BUT WHENEVER I STOPPED THE PROBLEM WOULD PERSIST. I HAVE MY CAR AT THE DEALER RIGHT NOW FOR 4 DAYS. THEY ARE TELLING ME THE MOTOR SEEMS TO BE CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL AND THAT THE MOTOR IS SHOT, THEY ARE ACCUSING ME OF NOT KEEPING UP WITH OIL CHANGES, WHICH IS NOT TRUE, AND THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS. I DID NOT HAVE THE OIL CHANGES DONE AT THE DEALER, BUT AT ANOTHER LOCAL SHOP, BUT DON'T HAVE ALL OF THE RECEIPTS, JUST ONE FROM THE OIL CHANGE DONE ON 3/15/2021. IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHECK THE ON-STAR SYSTEM OR COMPUTER, TO SEE THAT THE MAINTENANCE WAS COMPLETED? THE CAR SENDS ALERTS FOR ALL SORTS OF THINGS, LOW TIRE PRESSURE, LOW OIL, LOW FUEL, ETC. I NEVER RECEIVED LOW OIL MESSAGES. THE DEALER IS REFUSING TO REQUEST ANY COMPUTER RECORDS FOR THE CAR. THE CAR WAS LEASED IS EARLY 2020 AND SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THESE KINDS OF ISSUES.

ROUGH IDLE WHEN VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP AND RPMS WILL FLUCTUATE. RATTLE NOISE FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN TURNING ON OR ON REVERSE. BRAKES RESPONDING LATE.
I WAS HIT BY A CHEVROLET AVALANCHE ON MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND FRONT/SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 60 AND THE ROADS WERE ICY AND SNOWY. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35MPH AND THE OTHER VEHICLE MUST HAVE BEEN GOING AT LEAST 55-60MPH. THE POLICE REPORT STATED THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS DRIVING TOO FAST FOR ROAD CONDITIONS. MY SIDE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY AND I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND HAVE ADDITIONAL INJURIES DUE TO THE IMPACT. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE ACCIDENT AND LOCATION OF THE IMPACT I FEEL MY AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. SO FAR THE ESTIMATE ON MY VEHICLE DAMAGES IS ANYWHERE FROM 10-15K.
WHEN WE BOUGHT THE 2020 EQUINOX ON JANUARY 20, 2020 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEY KEPT IT 2 DAYS DIAGNOSING IT AND IT SAID A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD US THAT THEY CONTACTED GM ENGINEERS WHO WERE LOOKING INTO IT AND TO GO AHEAD AND DRIVE IT WITH THE LIGHT ON TILL THEY GOT BACK WITH US. IT HAS CONTINUED TO STAY ON I HAD THE CODE READ AGAIN AND IT IS A P2365 FUEL PUMP A LOW FLOW/PERFORMANCE CODE. I DO NOT LIKE DRIVING IT WITH THE LIGHT ON, THE DEALERSHIP TELLING ME TO, NOT HEARING ANYTHING BACK FROM THEM, THE REMOTE START WILL NOT WORK WITH THE LIGHT ON WHICH IS A MAIN REASON WE BOUGHT IT.
DRIVING 75 MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE WHILE PASSING TWO VEHICLES AND ONE CAR BEHIND ME THE CAR MADE A DINGING NOISE, THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE NOT AVAILABLE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CAR DECELERATED CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO HAVE TO BRAKE. IF I HAD NOT STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR BEHIND MAY HAVE HIT ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FOUR DIFFERENT DATES AND ON ONE TRIP IT HAPPENED 8 TIMES IN 80 MILES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT COULD CAUSE REAR END COLLISION AT HIGH SPEED. THE REPAIR SHOP AT MY CHEVY DEALER IN TOWN SAYS THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES AND THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. IS I GET HIT FROM BEHIND AT HIGH SPEED THIS COULD EASILY CAUSE A DEVASTATING CRASH. I DO NOT TRUST THIS CAR OR THE RESPONSES I AM GETTING FROM THE DEALER. THEY SAY NO ONE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS BUT I KIND FIND SITES WHERE PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM.
MY 2020 EQUINOX HAS DEVELOPED A SHAKE/SHIMMY VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING BETWEEN 30 AND 45 MPH. WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE VIBRATION IT WAS SLIGHT AND DID NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME BUT WITH MORE MILAGE NOW AT 5309 MILES, IT HAS BECOME MORE NOTICEABLE ENOUGH, THAT MY WIFE AND I DO NOT FEEL AS IF THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE. TWO DAYS AGO WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL THE CAR SHIMMIED AND A FLUTTERING SOUND WAS HEARD FROM UNDER THE CONSOLE; IT HAPPENED TWICE WHILE GOING UP THE HILL. UPON RETURNING HOME I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AT RIVERVIEW CHEVROLET AND HAD A TECHNICIAN RIDE WITH ME. WHILE RIDING, THE TECH. SAID HE FELT THE VIBRATION BUT COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM OR HOW TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. UPON RETURNING TO THE GARAGE I TALKED TO THE SERVICE WRITE UP PERSON AND HE SAID TO, "CALL ALL HIM IN 10 DAYS!!!!!."
I PURCHASED THE 2020 EQUINOX SUV. IMMEDIATELY LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP AFTER A HEAVY RAIN THE SUV WASN'T ABLE TO STOP WHEN I APPLIED THE BREAKS & APPROACHED A STOP SIGN ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND I WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR. I WOKE UP IN A TRAUMA CENTER IN SPRINGFIELD MO. THE VEHICLE HAD 84 MILES ON IT. $17,500 IN DAMAGE NOT INCLUDING SERIOUS INJURIES NOT JUST TO MYSELF BUT THE CAR THAT STRUCK ME. I WAS ALSO SITED A TICKET FROM THE MISSOURI HIGHWAY PATROL FOR FAILURE TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN, THOUGH I APPLIED THE BREAKS WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE BREAKS IN WET/COLD CLIMATES. IT'S TERRIFYING
AS THIS CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN THE HIGHWAY, ABOUT 10 MINUTES INTO MY DRIVE, SMOKE STARTED COMING FROM THE VEHICLE, I PULLED OVER, A PASSER BY RAN OVER TO ME TELLING ME TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE THAT FLAMES WERE SHOOTING OUT OF THE BOTTOM. AS SOON AS I EXITED THE CAR, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE ENTIRE CAR WAS BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. GM REFUSED TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE OR TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY.
WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AROUND 75MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLY. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL AND CONTINUE ON AFTER SLOWING DOWN, IT WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING OCCURRENCE. IT SEEMS TO BE A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH GM CARS AS AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED LOTS OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS "CHEVY SHAKE."
ENGINE LIGHT AND REDUCED ENGINE SPEED COME ON, DEALERSHIP STATES IT IS DUE TO BAD GAS. HAVE PURCHASED GAS FROM MULTIPLE VENUES OVER 6 MONTHS, ENGINE LIGHT WITH REDUCED SPEED HAS HAPPENED 4X IN 6 MONTHS .
STARTING OCTOBER 26, 2020 I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING MY CAR RADIO SHUTTING OFF AND TURNING BACK ON. WHEN THE RADIO RANDOMLY TURNS OFF, IT DISCONNECTS MY BLUETOOTH AND MUSIC STOPS PLAYING. TODAY ALONE I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE HAPPEN TO ME 7 TIMES IN A MATTER OF 35 MINUTES. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE, BUT I WOULD LIKE A RESOLUTION CONSIDERING THAT I"M THE FIRST OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND IT'S STILL BRAND NEW.
TURNING RIGHT AFTER A YIELD AND TOOK A LOOP (HIGHWAY) MY VEHICLE CRASHED ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, BUT MY VEHICLE SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN AUTO WARNING OR ALERT SIGN THAT I SHOULD HAVE NOTICED, A BEEP THAT SUPPOSED TO ALERT ME THAT THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS SO CLOSE EVEN THE SWITCH WAS AT THE ON MODE
FRONT WHEEL SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY ON A THROTTLE LOAD AT TIMES
PULLING OUT OF CARWASH.TURNING LEFT IN CARWASH LOT. CAR ENGINE REVED UP, CAR LUNGED FORWARD AT HIGH SPEED. SLAMMED ON BRAKE BUT BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. CAR THEN SIDE SWIPED CARWASH VACUUM SYSTEM ON PASSENGER SIDE SCRAPING AND DENTING BOTH PASSENGER SIDE DOORS. THREW CAR INTO PARK AND SHUT OFF ENGINE TO STOP WAITED 5 MINUTES. TURNED CAR BACK ON PUT CAR IN DRIVE. SLOWLY MOVED AND PUT BRAKE ON. BRAKES WORKED. DROVE 5 MILES TO GET HOME. NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE CAR.
RECEIVED THIS NOTICE ON 9/23/2020 WITH LESS THAT 400 MILES DRIVEN, BOOKED APPOINTMENT WITH SERVICE AND HAD BATTERY REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OF 1.5 HOUR REQUIRED TEST DETERMINED IT WAS BAD. TODAY, 9/30/2020 WITH LESS THAT 50 ADDITIONAL MILES DRIVEN, I RECEIVED THE MESSAGE AGAIN. MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM ONSTAR IS AS FOLLOWS. DEAR HENRY WILLCOX, YOUR 2020 CHEVROLET EQUINOX DETECTS A BATTERY SHORTED CELL. THE BATTERY IS NEEDED TO START THE VEHICLE. TO AVOID A SITUATION WHERE YOU CAN'T START YOUR VEHICLE, PLEASE SCHEDULE SERVICE WITH YOUR PREFERRED SERVICE PROVIDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, SO THEY CAN REPLACE YOUR BATTERY. YOU CAN STILL DRIVE YOUR CHEVROLET BUT IT MAY BECOME HARDER TO START. AND IF THE BATTERY DOES FAIL, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. PLEASE DISREGARD THIS MESSAGE IF YOUR VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN FOR SERVICE (AS THIS COULD BE A FALSE NOTIFICATION IF THE VEHICLE IS IN FOR SERVICE AND THE SERVICE BEING PERFORMED AFFECTS THIS COMPONENT). SERVICE CODE SAC001 WILL BE BOOKING SECOND SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR FIRST OPPORTUNITYASAP.
I AM A CRASH INVESTIGATOR/RECONSTRUCTIONIST LOOKING INTO A FATAL CRASH INVOLVING A 2020 EQUINOX WITH APPROXIMATELY 2000 MILES ON IT THAT HIT A TREE IN THE FRONT (HEAD-ON) AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WERE 2 OCCUPANTS, DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER. PASSENGER SAID HE WAS NOT WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. PASSENGER SEAT BELT WAS FOUND TO BE RETRACTED AND LOCKED TIGHT. DRIVER SEAT BELT WAS FOUND TO BE RETRACTED AND LOOSE (NORMAL POSITIONING). INITIAL OBSERVATION OF THE CDR DATA, AND NOT THAT OF A THOROUGH AND COMPLETE ANALYSIS, INDICATES THAT THE DRIVER WAS BUCKLED AND THE PASSENGER WAS UNBUCKLED. THE STEERING WHEEL APPEARS TO BE COLLAPSED AS THOUGH THE DRIVER MOVED FORWARD IN THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT. THERE ARE MANY FACTORS THAT INVOLVE THE NORMAL AND SAFE SEAT BELT OPERATION, AND THEREFORE IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THIS IS A DEFECT, NORMAL OPERATION AS A RESULT OF THE CRASH, OPERATOR MISUSE, ETC. FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE DRIVER SEAT BELT HAS NOT BEEN DONE AT THIS TIME.
WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE AND SHIMMY NOTICEABLY BEGINNING AROUND 35 OR 40 MPH. THIS SHAKING IS FELT IN THE SEAT AS WELL AS THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VIBRATION CONTINUES UNTIL THE ACCELERATION IS HALTED. THIS SHAKING FEELS LIKE IT IS COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION OR DRIVE SHAFT. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE TOO. CURRENTLY 3650 MILES ON THE CAR. SERPENTINI CHEVY IN WESTLAKE, OH IS ALSO AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND SHOWED ME A LETTER THAT GM SENT TO THE DEALERS ACKNOWLEDGING THE ISSUE ON 9/9/20 BUT NO FIX IS AVAILABLE. IT FEELS UNSAFE
I TOOK THIS 4 WEEK OLD CAR IN TO AUTONATION CHEV AUSTIN FOR AN ESV LIGHT THAT STARTED APPEARING SOON AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. I TOOK IT IN ON AUG 10 AND THEY CALLED THE NEXT DAY TO TELL ME THE CAR WAS READY. I DROVE IT FOR 4 MINUTES AND HAD TO TAKE IT RIGHT BACK TO THEM AND IT HAS NOW BEEN THERE 8 DAYS. NOT ACCEPTABLE. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS A SIMPLE PROGRAMMING PROBLEM - REALLY - WHY DO THEY STILL HAVE THE CAR.
I HAVE A BRAND NEW CHEVY EQUINOX AND THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. IT MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN I TURN OR BACK UP TO TURN AROUND. I HAVE LESS THAN 2000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE.
AFTER 3 MONTHS, 500 MILES WE NOTICED OIL LEAKING FROM TRANSMISSION. DEALER INSPECTED AND FOUND THAT HALF THE TORQUE CONVERTER CASE PORUS. THE DEALER RECIEVED AUTHHORIZATION TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION.
OUR NEW CAR IS 3 MONTHS OLD AND 500 MILES STATING TO LEAK OIL. DEALER SAID IT'S LEAKING FROM TRANSMISSION.
I WAS PULLING UP TO A FAMILY MEMBER'S CAR PORT, BEHIND THEIR CAR. THE CAR PORT HAS A GRASS PORTION LEADING UP TO THE GRAVEL SECTION WHERE THEY PARK THEIR CAR. I PULLED IN SLOWLY WHEN MY 2020 EQUINOX SUDDENLY ACCELERATED! I WAS ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT ACCELERATING CAUSING IT TO RUN INTO THE BACK OF THE FAMILY MEMBER'S CAR. MY VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE SHOVING THE CAR FORWARD SANDWICHING IT BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THEIR HOME.I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED REVVING UP THE RPMS. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. THE CAR LURCHED BACKWARD. I MANAGED TO PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I CONTACTED MY DEALER (MY VEHICLE HAS 1656 MILES ON IT, AND I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR ABOUT ONE MONTH). I TALKED WITH SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT MY FLOOR MATS CAUSED IT TO HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE. MY FLOOR MATS WERE WELL BELOW THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE RPMS SURGED. EVEN IF THERE HAD BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE MATS, I DON'T THINK THE RPMS WOULD HAVE JUMPED UP AS HIGH AS THEY DID. THE FAMILY MEMBER'S VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM MY INSURANCE CO. THEY VEHICLE IS BEING TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LANE DEPARTURE ASSIST FEATURE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT THE CONTACT WAS OUTSIDE OF THE INTENDED LANE, DESPITE THE CONTACT BEING WITHIN THE LANE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ANOTHER FEATURE OF THE SYSTEM WAS THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE TO INDICATE THE VEHICLE DEPARTED THE LANE HOWEVER, THE FEATURE ACTIVATED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN THE LANE. LOU BOCHRODT AUTO MALL (7070 CHERRYVALE N BLVD, ROCKFORD, IL 61112, (815) 332-3000) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN RATE OF SPEED, HE PASSED OUT DUE TO A MEDICAL EMERGENCY AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL VIA AN AMBULANCE AND WAS TREATED FOR UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE INJURIES OF THE OTHER DRIVER WERE UNKNOWN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A FORWARD COLLISION ALERT SYSTEM WHICH SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY TOWED TO A TOW YARD AND WAS LATER TOWED TO A BODY SHOP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO JON HALL CHEVROLET (551 N NOVA RD, DAYTONA BEACH, FL 32114) WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE HE DID NOT HAVE GPS ACTIVATED IN HIS VEHICLE, THE FORWARD COLLISION ALERT WOULD NOT OPERATE. THE MANUFACTURE HAD NOT BEEN ALERTED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,400.
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN ON CLOSEST SETTING WILL NOT STOP THE CAR WHEN YOU ARE GOING OVER 60MPH, WHEN A CAR DRASTICALLY SLOWS DOWN IN FRONT OF YOU THE CAR FAILS TO RESPOND IN FACT THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SHUTS OFF AND IVE PRACTICALLY HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME MANY TIMES ..ITS HARD TO TRUST THIS SYSTEM..AND THE OTHER DAY IT JUST SHUT OFF ALL TOGETHER WITHOUT A HARD WARNING I COULD HAVE PLOWED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. ALSO THE LANE ASSIST DOES NOT BEEP/OR SEAT RATTLE WHEN YOU VEER FROM YOUR LANE. IT BEEPS RANDOMLY SOMETIMES WHEN YOU EDGE OUT OF YOUR LANE GOING AROUND A BEND "SOMETIMES" BUT RANDOMLY AND NOT CONSISTENTLY. IVE TALKED TO CHEVYS CUSTOMER CARE TEAM AND THEY KEEP REFERRING TO THE DEALERSHIP LIKE THEY ARE THE MANUFACTURER..BUT THEY DID NOT DESIGN AND ARE ASSUMING ITS WORKING RIGHT BECAUSE ALL THEIR OTHER SAME MODELS DO THE SAME THINGS..IN MY OPINION THIS DOESNT MEAN ITS NOT A RECALLABLE INHERENT ISSUE WITH ITS CURRENT PROGRAMMING..I THINK IT IS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT
WHENEVER I BACKUP I HEAR A SQUEAL NOISE WHEN I PUT MY BRAKE ON TO PUT IT IN DRIVE. I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW AND IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR A MONTH NOW.
RECEIVED "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" ON CAR DASHBOARD. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. WENT TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, THE 1ST 2 WOULD NOT PROVIDER A LOANER VEHICLE TO ME WHILE CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED. NOTE THE CAR WAS PURCHASE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND HAS 1200 MILES ON IT. I WAS TOLD THAT GM HAS A POLICY THAT THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE LOANERS, IF THIS IS TRUE I FIND IT VERY TROUBLING. THE LAST STOP I HAD TO PUT MY FOOT DOWN AND TELL THEM THEY WERE GOING TO PROVIDE A VEHICLE FOR ME TO DRIVE OR GET MY CAR FIXED IMMEDIATELY. I ENDED UP WITH A LOANER AND THEY FOUND THAT I HAD SOME PINCHED WIRES AND THE WIRING HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED WHICH INVOLVES THE WHOLE ENGINE BEING PULLED TO REPLACE THIS PART. THE CAR HAS NOW BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR ALMOST A WEEK AND I MAY GET IT BACK TOMORROW. THIS IS THE FIRST CHEVY I HAVE OWNED AND IT MAY BE MY LAST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE EXCESSIVELY. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JIM TRENARY CHEVROLET LOCATED AT 501 AUTO MALL DR, O'FALLON, MO 63368, WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND REPAIR WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS COMPLAINT IS NOT THE RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT, BUT TO PREVENT ONE FROM HAPPENING AND POSSIBLE TAKING LIVES OF PEOPLE. THE KEEP LANE ASSIST (LKA) IS DANGEROUS IN THAT IF YOU ARE DEPENDING ON IT. THERE ARE OCCASIONS THAT NORMAL TRAFFIC LINES ARE PRESENT AND FOR SOME REASON THE JUST DISAPPEAR AND ARE NOT PRESENT AND IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE VEHICLE TO VEER OFF THE ROAD OR INTO THE OPPOSING LANE. GENERAL MOTORS DOES PROVIDE A MEANS OF TURNING LKA OFF, BUT IT RE-ENABLES EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THE AUTO STOP (AS) HAS THE ISSUE THAT IF YOU STOP AND YOUR VEHICLE STOPS RUNNING, YOU CAN BE IN A SITUATION WHERE YOU CANNOT GET OUT OF THE WAY IN TIME TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS TO HAVE TIME TO RESTART. OTHER MANUFACTURES PROVIDE A MEANS OF DISABLING AS WITH A SWITCH BUT GENERAL MOTORS DOES NOT. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND GENERAL MOTORS AND BOTH DECLINED TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS.
TURNED CAR ON (IN DRIVEWAY) AND SERVICE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITY CONTROL, AND DRIVER FRONT AND LANE ASSIST ALL DISENGAGED. UNABLE TO MANUALLY TURN BACK ON THROUGH STEERING CONTROLS. STOPPED THE VEHICLE, PARKED IN A PARKING LOT, AND TURNED ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT WAS STILL ON. DROVE TO DESTINATION WITH THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT STILL ON, TURNED OFF VEHICLE, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT WAS OFF. CONTACTED LOCAL CHEVY DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT. WAS TOLD TO DRIVE AROUND FOR A COUPLE MORE DAYS AND SEE IF THE ISSUE RETURNS. IF IT DOES RETURN AFTER A FEW DAYS, RECOMMENDED TO SCHEDULE SERVICE.
WHILE DRIVING, THE TIRES FELT LIKE THEY WERE BEING LOCKED UP TO KEEP FROM FISHTAILING EVEN THOUGH ROADS WERE CLEAR AND DRY WITH NORMAL ACCELERATION. AFTER DRIVING, PARKED VEHICLE AND SAT IN IT FOR AN HOUR. AFTERWARDS, TURNED VEHICLE ON AND THE SCREEN STATED TO SERVICE ESC. STABILITRAK, LANE ASSIST, AND PARKING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER A COUPLE HOURS WITH THE VEHICLE OFF AND DROVE A BLOCK, THE WARNING LIGHTS TURNED OFF AND BECAME NORMAL. THEN AFTER AN HOUR OF THE VEHICLE SITTING AND TURNED OFF FOR AN HOUR, WE BEGAN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AFTER AN HOUR OF DRIVING, THE SCREEN STATED TO SERVICE ESC AGAIN. STABILITRAK, LANE ASSIST, AND PARKING ASSIST LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN.
EQUINOX HAS 4636 MILES AND ALL THREE TIMES IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN SNOW A SERVICE ESC MESSAGE COMES ON DASH AND TRACTION CONTROL AND STABILITY CONTROL ARE TURNED OFF ALONG WITH AWD. ONE TIME WAS HIGHWAY DRIVING, AND OTHER TWO TIMES ON A LOCAL STREET. ALSO WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE DASH MESSAGE SAID REDUCED ENGINE POWER (STAYED ON FOR 400 MILES/TWO DAYS) MAY REDUCE SPEEDS TO 50 MPH. RPM'S STARED RUNNING 1000 HIGHER TO MAINTAIN SPEED AND FUEL ECONOMY DROPPED ABOUT 8 MPG. GM MECHANIC DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE BUT SAID THE TURBO WAS FROZEN BECAUSE OF TEMPERATURES (-10 DEGREES) AND THAT IT NEEDED A WINTER FRONT AND NEW INTAKE TUBE. MECHANIC SAID HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM OVER 10 TIMES WITH THE SAME ENGINE THAT DAY.
CAR HAS A PROBLEM WITH MOLD IN THE CONDENSER AND A ODOR THAT CAN'T BE CORRECTED. PROBLEM IS WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS RUNNING., AND BECOMES A PROBLEM TO MY BREATHING. AFTER LOOKING ON LINE IT SEAMS TO BE CALLED DIRTY SOCK SYNDROME. THIS WAS ALSO SMELLED IN THE RENTAL EQUINOX THAT WAS PROVIDED. THIS IS A HEALTH RISK TO PEOPLE WITH BREATHING PROBLEMS AS I HAVE.
THE SECOND DAY AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET, ACCELERATING, THE CAR STARTED TO FILL UP WITH GAS FUMES!
IN -13 DEGREE FARENHEIT, THE VEHICLE LOCKED ME OUT. KEY FOB LEFT INSIDE VEHICLE FOR 45 MIN, ENGINE OFF, PARKED IN A PARKING LOT. REMOTE START FROM INSIDE BUILDING DID NOT WORK DUE TO FOB IN CAR. ONCE I ARRIVED BACK A THE VEHICLE I FOUND THE DOORS LOCKED, DOOR HANDLE UNLOCK BUTTON UNRESPONSIVE WITH MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. VEHICLE FAILED TO UNLOCK WHILE I STOOD OUTSIDE IN -13 DEGREE WEATHER, COMPLETELY UNSAFE, FOR 5 MIN. I TRIED ALL DOORS AND TRIED UNLOCKING FROM PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WAS NO UNLOCKING SOUND WHEN PRESSING THE DOOR BUTTONS. I TRIED THE CHEVY APP TO UNLOCK STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THE VEHICLE, IT DID NOT UNLOCK IMMEDIATELY. AFTER A MINUTE OR LONGER DELAY THE LOCKING MECHANISM STARTED TO ENGAGE OR DISENGAGE RANDOMLY WITHOUT ME PRESSING BUTTONS ON THE DOOR OR APP. EACH TIME I TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR WITHOUT SUCCESS. ON THE LAST CLICK I WAS ABLE TO SUDDENLY OPEN THE DOOR. 2530 ODOMETER READING.
MY 2020 EQUINOX HAS LESS THAN 500 MILES AND OVER THE WEEKEND, WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT, THE FORWARD COMPLETELY DISENGAGED AND WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO MOVE FORWARD. WE COULD ONLY GO REVERSE. WE HAD OUR 5 YEAR OLD GRANDSON WITH US AND THIS WAS TERRIFYING. IT COULD HAVE BEEN EVEN MORE DANGEROUS HAD IT BEEN DARK OR ON A BUSIER ROAD.
VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST ENGINE RESPONSE REACTION TO ACCELERATION PEDDLE FROM A YIELD TURN INTO MAIN ROAD. FROM THE YIELD, SLOW ROLLING LESS THAN 1 MILE PER HOUR, I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDDLE TO MERGE INTO THE MAIN ROAD AND THE VEHICLE HAD ZERO RESPONSE FOR NEARLY 30 FEET. IF THERE WAS A CAR COMING I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AVOID BEING COMPLETELY HIT IN THE SIDE. I PUMPED THE GAS PEDDLE IN AN ATTEMPT TO REGAIN ANY RESPONSE, AFTER SEVERAL PUMPS THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED DRASTICALLY TO 3000 WITHOUT UPSHIFTING AT PROPER TIME AND THE VEHICLE SURGED AHEAD. ODOMETER READING 2376. 1200 MILE SERVICE COMPLETED. 2400 MILE VEHICLE SERVICE SCHEDULED. FILLED TANK 37.8 MILES PRIOR TO EVENT WITH 89 OCTANE. ROUGHLY 35 TO 40 DEGREES.
▸ Engine stalling at speed — fuel delivery failure can cause sudden loss of power in traffic or on highways
▸ Loss of brake assist and ABS in emergency — can significantly extend stopping distances
▸ Complete transmission failure — repair costs $3,000–$8,000+; vehicle may become undriveable
The blue line shows 267 total NHTSA complaints filed over 8 years, with the worst year being 2025 (61 complaints, including 3 crash reports).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 10/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
The recalls (red dashed lines) were issued in the same year or before complaints peaked, suggesting the manufacturer identified and acted on the defect relatively quickly.
Red dots on the amber line flag 6 years (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
Estimated 5-year cost of ownership: $35,584 (~$593/mo). Repair risk buffer is standard due to vehicle risk profile.
15% baseline recall probability — no strong indicators of an imminent recall.
- ▸Multiple prior recalls — pattern of safety issues on this model
Maintenance intervals vary significantly by make, model, year, engine, and driving conditions. Always follow the manufacturer's official schedule — not generic industry estimates.
Tip: Request the seller's service records and compare against the manufacturer schedule. Missing intervals are a negotiation point.
Based on 2024 national avg ($2,011/yr full coverage). Individual rates vary by driver, location & insurer. Always compare 3+ quotes.
CHEVROLET has been fined $35M+ by NHTSA. Most recently in 2014: Delayed ignition switch recall — 124 deaths linked to defect known since 2001.
