Truck will hard shift and bang into gear while driving. This usually happens when slowing then starting up again. happens at all speeds on highway, so hard it lunges me forward. condition getting worse. random times my windshield wipers will just come on ( I do not have rain sensors) the switch is in the off position and wipers will just come on and I have to turn them on then turn them off to get them to stop.

When driving normally OR pulling a camper (same day), power steering seems to "stick" as I exit either a moderate RH or LH corner. I must apply extra effort to the steering wheel to straighten out, and that invariably leads to an over-correction and departure into either the shoulder or the opposite lane. Problem is not sensitive to speed or weather conditions. The symptoms are not necessarily worse when pulling a camper, but the consequences are much more drastic and losing control of the vehicle feels much more imminent than when driving just the truck. Because the problem comes and goes so quickly, I can be applying force to straighten the wheel when suddenly, no force is required and the truck veers either left or right. I see no warning lights, nor do I see any messages displayed. I have not yet had the opportunity to get the truck to a mechanic. I'm not confident that I can safely drive to a repair facility, as the steering is so unpredictable.

The left front turn signal becomes inoperable at times. The foreword collision indicator warning will come on unprovoked at times. Both conditions correct when you cycle the ignition switch. I consider the turn signal problem a safety issue because it happens with no warning and oncoming traffic may not know I am turning left or changing lanes. When the foreword indicator appears, I doubt the system is operable.

On June 27th 2026 at approximately 3am, I was driving my Chevy Silverado Trail Boss with 6.2 engine, it suffered a sudden catastrophic failure and it completely seized while in motion. There were no warning or signs given while vehicle was in motion. This resulted in an immediate highly dangerous loss of propulsion on a dark 2 lane road. The vehicle would not crank and had to be towed to Estero Bay Chevrolet.

ODI #11750791ENGINE

On Sunday, July 12, 2026, the 6.2L V8 (L87) engine in my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 seized and locked up completely, resulting in total loss of propulsion. I was driving at 65 MPH when it felt like the transmission was slipping and I lost power and coasted the truck to the side of the road. COMPONENT: Engine (6.2L V8, RPO L87) — connecting rod/crankshaft failure consistent with Safety Recall N252494001 (NHTSA Recall 25V-274). The vehicle is available for inspection. It is currently at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet, where it was towed on July 13, 2026, and remains inoperable. SAFETY RISK: The engine seized during operation, causing sudden and complete loss of propulsion in traffic. This is the exact failure mode identified in Recall 25V-274 as increasing the risk of a crash. CRITICAL DETAIL: This vehicle previously underwent inspection under Safety Recall N252494001 and PASSED on Feb 3rd 2026 at VAN Chevrolet in Kansas City. GM deemed the engine non-defective and issued extended warranty coverage of 10 years/150,000 miles under the associated special coverage program. Despite passing GM's recall inspection, the engine suffered catastrophic failure. This appears directly relevant to NHTSA's open recall query regarding the effectiveness of GM's recall remedy. DEALER CONFIRMATION: A technician at Cable Dahmer Chevrolet has verbally confirmed the engine is locked up/seized. Formal diagnosis is pending master technician sign-off and submission to GM, expected the week of July 20, 2026. The manufacturer has not yet inspected the vehicle. WARNING SIGNS: No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms appeared prior to the failure. The engine failed without warning

I am filing a formal complaint regarding General Motors' handling of a critical vehicle component that has left my vehicle and many others in an unsafe condition. For more than over a one month, I have been waiting for a replacement gear shift module that is currently on backorder. During this time, I have learned that numerous General Motors customers are experiencing the same issue and are also waiting for this part to become available. My primary concern is that this appears to be more than an isolated parts shortage. If so many vehicles require replacement of the same safety-related component, General Motors should be evaluating whether this issue warrants a safety recall or, at a minimum, notifying affected customers of the potential risks. The gear shift module is a critical component that affects the safe operation of a vehicle. Allowing customers to continue driving vehicles that may have a defective gear shift module without providing a safety notification or timely repair raises serious concerns regarding public safety. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter and encourage General Motors to: Explain the reason for the extended backorder of this critical component. Provide customers with a reasonable timeline for obtaining replacement parts. Determine whether this issue should be addressed through a formal safety recall or customer safety notification. Offer appropriate assistance to customers whose vehicles have been affected by this prolonged delay. Customers should not be expected to operate vehicles that may present a potential safety risk while waiting indefinitely for a critical replacement part.

Was able to pull over and put it in park. Tried to push the start button and nothing. Dealership said it needs a new motor. The truck has less than 10k miles. The motor has already been replaced once before at 4070 miles.

Upon purchasing a used 2023 Silverado, on the first night of ownership, I found the headlight on the passenger side to be defective. The high beams activated approximately a full second slower than the driver's side. It took me a few days to confirm what I was seeing, where I immediately reached out to help from the Chevy dealership it was purchased from. After back and forth, the dealership refused to fix this saftey item as it was "still operational just not 100%" or something to that affect (not a direct quote). The extended warranty company doesn't typically cover headlight housing. The dealership locally says both headlights need replacement. Chevy Corp is involved, under claim 104164057. I've brought to their attention that I have found several reports of this defect online for similar vehicles and model year. My contention is that, particularly due to being the passenger side, this malfunction could lead to accidents and collisions due to distraction of troubleshooting, and the delay of lighting on the side where animals and night hazards typically come from. I've read online reports of these headlights may take up to 3 seconds between sides to both activate, with one side running slower than the other, and eventual failure where the switching mechanism will get stuck. A Chevy dealer confirmed the defect and recommended replacement of both headlights, at my cost, for approximately $4000. Chevy is still investigating and trying to find a conclusion with the dealership, but I contest that I have malfunctioning saftey equipment that could lead to harm or injury, and at the moment, both dealer and manufacturer have been unwilling to resolve the issue. The failure occurs both in auto-headlight and manual modes.

While shifting my vehicle from Park, a "Service Transmission" warning message appeared on the dashboard. The warning would illuminate and then disappear, but the vehicle continued to shift into the other gears. At the time the issue occurred, my truck had only 47,000 miles. I brought it to Blasius Chevrolet in [XXX] on XXX, for diagnosis. The dealership determined that the Transmission Control Assembly (Part # XXX) had failed and needed to be replaced. I was informed that this repair was not covered under the powertrain warranty because Chevrolet considers the Transmission Control Assembly to be excluded from powertrain coverage, and my basic warranty had already expired. I was quoted more than $900 for parts and labor. Initially, I was told the replacement part would arrive within a few days. Later, the technician stated that other Chevrolet dealerships had the part in stock. However, after contacting those dealerships, he was told they would not release their inventory. Chevrolet then advised that the part was on national backorder, with the earliest estimated availability of XXX. As a result, I have been without my truck for approximately one month, creating a significant hardship. After researching this issue, I found numerous reports from other Chevrolet owners experiencing the same failure involving the Transmission Control Assembly. The apparent frequency of these failures, combined with the nationwide backorder of the part, suggests this may be a widespread defect rather than normal wear and tear. I believe Chevrolet should either: Cover this repair under the powertrain warranty, as it directly affects the operation of the transmission, or Issue a recall or warranty extension if this is determined to be a common defect affecting vehicle safety and reliability. I am submitting this complaint because I am concerned that a failure of the Transmission Control Assembly could impact the safe operation of the vehicle. A valve on the 3.0L Duramax is allegedly sticking, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode or be inoperable. This is a known issue for GM and they have issued a service bulletin on it. Unfortunately, no dealers want to address the issue and now we are left with a vehicle that if we do not pay to repair, after it being ours for only 5 days, the vehicle will be unusable. This vehicle is under warranty still and this part is needed for operation. I believe this avoidance of a recall is harming customers and creating pay to drive schemes. This needs to be addressed before thousands of customers begin paying for a repair that GM knows is their fault.

On 08 MAY 2026, my infotainment system indicated a software update was necessary, so I followed the directions to complete the update. When the update was complete, my infotainment screen said there was a failure and to take it to the dealership for repair. The entire infotainement system is inoperative. The soonest appointment I could make was for 18 MAY 2026. On 18 MAY 2026, I took my Silverado into the dealership where I have it serviced to address the failure of my infotainment system. My service advisor informed me that I would need a new radio and that these radios are on a national backorder list. My advisor informed me that they have other customers who are experiencing the same issue and have been waiting for the replacement radio since January 2026. My truck has the L87 motor on recall. i purchased it brand new and paid top dollar for it. I've had issues since I've bought it. All of my maintenance has always been done at the dealership from regular maintenance to purchasing brand new tires. I am very disappointed to have a truck that concerns to drive, i do not take my family out in my truck because i am not confident in its reliability and safety. multiple times i've taken my truck in for service and let them know to complete an oil change, tire rotation and to check an issue with a "tick, clunk and knock" just to be told it was "normal for the 6.2". my normal dealership has blocked off appointments online and you'd have to call to try to set one up. I demanded a diagnostic one time when the truck was acting weird and the tech stated "stop by, i'll squeeze you in" in which i did. however, i wasn't given any documentation since "i didn't have an appointment". After reviewing all of my service records, i come to notice not once time did they mention they did a diagnostic check. Only the recall test shows on one of the service records. I've had 3 different viscosity oils in my motor from the dealer stating GM recommended it. I had to night drop my truck on June 14 as it was making a weird noise from the engine and it felt like it had less power. I waited 2 days and the dealer did not contact to even state they have my truck in service. when i called to ask the status i had to agree to text message communication in which they replied, "at best it will take 2 weeks just to look at it". I asked for a loaner since i need a truck for work and transportation, they replied they do not have any and I will be placed on a list. My truck is still under original powertrain warranty and they cannot even provide a loaner. i feel that they are brushing me off to buy time and here i am making hefty car and insurance payments for a truck i do not have nor a truck that I NEED to provide for my family. GM does not care!

6/12/26 ( 2023 Chevy Silverado - 6.2 liter engine) While driving at approximately 40 MPH on a two lane road, the truck shut off. After multiple attempts, the engine failed to restart. The transmission locked up in park and would not release. This required the truck to be dragged up on the flat bed wrecker instead of rolling freely. Prior to this instance there have been several issues with the electrical system. 1. radio sound shuts off. does not come back on. 2. Head lights stay on for 10 minutes after vehicle is turn off. 3. Tail gate opens on it own. Tail gate doesn't open with fob. 4. door locks fail to operate correctly. 5. When drivers door is opened a beeping sound starts and doesn't stop until door is closed. I have reported these problems to GM & have two case numbers. The dealership reports that the 6.2 replacement engines have had multiple failures.

My 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 experiences an intermittant, uncommanded mechanical drivetrain lockup and severe binding when accelerating from a complete stop. The vehicle rolls fine in a straight line for several feet, but the exact moment the steering wheel is turned slightly (a couple degrees), the drivetrain violently binds up. This creates resistance in the steering and acceleration, as well as a severe physical and audible metallic clunking slam and massive shockwave vibrations felt directly through the steering wheel, floorboards, brake/gas pedals, and driver’s seat. During the last event, the vehicle threw a "Service 4 Wheel Drive" dash message and refused to shift out of "Auto" mode back into 2WD. Because this is a pure mechanical interference/binding issue, it does not consistently throw active electronic trouble codes. A standard OBD2 code scan will show nothing. After turning the vehicle off for several hours and testing again, the problem persisted. After towing the vehicle to a dealership (6/10/2026) it sat for at least 5 days before dealership service looked at it. By this time, the active warning lights cleared. My initial servicing dealership refused to perform physical hardware or fluid diagnostics under my factory warranty, stating they would not look at the vehicle unless I paid $860 out-of-pocket or until the drivetrain "completely grenaded" on the road. Because this uncommanded lockup restricts my ability to steer the vehicle safely from a stop, it presents an immediate crash hazard. At the direction of General Motors Corporate, I am escalating this issue and moving the vehicle to a secondary certified facility (Feldman Chevrolet of Novi) on June 23, 2026, for a formal physical hardware and fluid tear-down inspection.

We remained in the breakdown lane on a busy highway on a holiday weekend in 90+ degree heat for 7+ hours before being towed to a nearby dealership. When the right type of tow truck arrived (capable of towing the truck and camper off the highway), the driver had to remove the driveshaft before the vehicle could be towed to the nearby dealership. This is because of the electronic shift. If the vehicle is not running it cannot be shifted out of park without a special tool. We felt very unsafe sitting in the breakdown lane with cars whizzing by shaking our camper and vehicle at each vehicle passing. Not 1 time did the police stop to provide assistance/make sure all were ok, etc. The vehicle has since been towed to the local dealership and after they inspected the vehicle it was determined the engine seized due to debris in the engine. A replacement engine is on backorder. The engine had already been inspected for the recall and GM 6.2L L87 "fix" was performed, but this did not stop the engine from seizing.

At approximately 24,000 miles the engine had catastrophic failure under normal street/highway driving conditions. The engine is the 6.2L V8. The issue began with a high pitch squeal or chirping sound and noticeable power loss. I parked the truck over night and then drove it to the dealer first thing the next morning. While on the way to the dealership, which was less than 20 miles away, the engine began having much bigger issues. A loud knocking noise was apparent and the rear end began locking up causing the tires to also lock up. Once at the dealership the engine completely failed and locked up. The engine did have the newly recommended 0W-40 oil installed prior to the failure.

I was travelling on the highway at approximately 72 miles an hour in the left lane trying to pass a vehicle in the right lane. while accelerating my truck was like the brakes were slammed on and all kinds of lights starting flashing. This included the check engine light, low oil pressure light and lane assist lights. The truck shifted into Neutral and I could not place back into drive. I swerved and almost lost control of the vehicle and nearly missed colliding with the safety rails on the left of the road and then with the car on the right side. I then pulled onto the shoulder after nearly being rear ended by another vehicle approaching on the left. The vehicle would not react to the gas pedal. I pulled onto the shoulder and turned the vehicle off. Tried to restart but again nothing but mutliple lights and warnings. I checked my app for Chevrolet and it stated that the vehicle needed engine and transmission system service. Variable valve timing system needs serviced. Ingition system needed serviced. The onstar diagnostic alert indicated P0016 was detected. I opened the hood to inspect and the coolant overflow was spewing coolant. I checked the oil level at that point and it was just a little below full. I had taken this vehicle into the dealership two other times stating that the vehicle had stalled before on the highway but not to this degree. The other two times it stalled when accelerating it would allow me to pull over and restart. But both of those times I never had any flashing lights or diagnostic codes. I explained this to the dealership and how unsafe it was. Both of those times almost ended in a vehicle accident with other vehicles around me. The dealership said they could not diagnose any issues unless the truck created a diagnostic code. These issues have been ongoing with these vehicles for a long time and the dealership just did not want to deal with them. I had the vehicle go thru the recall diagnostic tests. It did not fix them

This is a 2023 General Motors 6.2L (L87) engine that was inspected at the dealership where it was originally purchased for the previously issued NHTSA "loss of propulsion" recall and passed without any noted issues. This engine only has ~20,000 miles on it. The engine failed in relatively heavy traffic and could have easily resulted in a serious accident due to inability to route my vehicle to a safe area while under power. This all happened without any prior warning, no check engine lights, noises or lamps or symptoms. The dash simply illuminated with a "Press Start" message. The truck was towed to the dealer for evaluation. The dealer called me today (5/26/2026) stating the engine was seized and a new engine would have to be ordered from GM for installation. This event occurred while the vehicle (2023 Silverado ZR2) is still under the original 36 month/36,000 mile warranty.

Vehicle has experienced repeated electrical and safety system failures since purchase in 2023. Affected systems include forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, cameras, and infotainment. Failures include complete loss of camera functionality (rear and front), infotainment system shutdowns or resets while driving, loss of audio, and volume malfunctioning (including sudden increases or no response). The vehicle has also generated false safety alerts, including forward collision warnings and blind spot alerts when no hazard was present. These issues have occurred while the vehicle was in operation, creating safety risks due to loss of visibility systems and unreliable warning alerts. In multiple instances, the system would become completely non-functional for extended periods, sometimes lasting days or weeks, before temporarily returning. The problem has been reported to a dealership multiple times and has been inspected and serviced. Repairs have included software updates and component-related work; however, the issues have continued to persist or reoccur. The failures are intermittent but recurring and have not been permanently resolved despite multiple repair attempts. The condition reduces driver confidence and creates unsafe operating conditions due to unreliable safety systems and loss of critical features while driving.

I am reporting another engine failure on the 6.2L L87. This engine passed the initial recall testing and the oil was changed to 0W40 on September 30, 2025. However, my engine in my 2023 LT Trail Boss started knocking on Friday, March 20, 2026 (at 22,500 miles) after I picked up my children from school. Thankfully it started as I pulled into my driveway with them so they weren’t in any danger. No loss of power on the truck or warning lights visible. However, it was loud enough and odd enough for my [XXX] olds to even notice the sound in the cab. It was dropped off at the dealership on that Saturday morning and the GM dealership was finally able to look at it on Wednesday, March 25th and confirmed what was expected. The advisor stated the engine will need to be replaced due to the engine heading towards bearing/crankshaft failure. I am still currently without my truck as of today (April 4th) with no repair date in sight. I will say that the dealership service advisor has been very good about communicating about its status. However, he stated that he has had no luck finding an new engine and is unable to give a timetable in getting one. He did offer to start a PO for a rental car through enterprise. He stated they are not giving loaners, but could get a rental car. He also stated that it would not be a truck due to GM only giving $50 per day towards a rental. So here I sit currently without my truck. I see multiple reports about the engines being on back order and even the replacement engines are failing within the fist 500 miles. Some reports indicating they are on the third or fourth engine. Something needs to done about getting these trucks bought back by GM. They have clearly failed with this engine and are replacing the failed engines with the same thing! It is a well documented manufacturing flaw and design! I am thankful it occurred near my home. Inspection passed, but the failure ultimatel happened on 2025-02-25. Dealer indicated engine was covered under original powertrain warranty and GM would send a remanufactured engine. Dealer has still not received the engine as of Monday (2/23), which is almost a month later. While driving on a US highway in a rural area, my engine suddenly died while driving approximately 60mph. The restart engine light came on, and I quickly was unsure what was happening as I felt myself slowing down slightly after realizing I had no power and the engine would not restart. I believe it went to neutral automatically. I was in the inside lane, and it was incredibly dangerous due to traffic around me. I could not easily exit to side of road due to the traffic, but luckily a gap formed, and I was able to abruptly get off the road. I have kids in the car daily, and this would have been life threatening had it happen in any other scenario, or especially in a larger city or busier highway. The vehicle is currently exhibiting a loud, rhythmic metallic ticking/tapping noise from the top of the engine. This is a known precursor to a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power as documented in GM Service Bulletins PIP5847A and PIP6101. The cause is attributed to manufacturing debris within the hydraulic valve lash adjusters, which prevents proper lubrication and causes valvetrain desynchronization. This defect leads to severe engine misfires (DTC P0300), "Reduced Engine Power" mode, and potential engine seizure. 1. Component/System: The 2.7L L3B Engine Valvetrain / Hydraulic Lash Adjusters. The vehicle is available for inspection. 2. Safety Risk: The audible ticking indicates imminent mechanical failure. This defect causes sudden and unexpected loss of motive power at highway speeds. Driving in this condition puts me at extreme risk of being stranded in active traffic or losing power while merging/passing, creating an immediate risk of high-speed rear-end collisions. GM is aware of this debris-related defect via TSBs but has not issued a safety recall to prevent the resulting power loss. 3. Dealer Confirmation: Yes, confirmed by Chevrolet dealer on 3/18/26. The dealer knows about this particular issue, and decided not to act. 4. Inspection History: Inspected by authorized Chevrolet service technician. 5. Warning Symptoms: Loud metallic ticking/clacking that increases with engine RPM. This is a known precursor to a sudden, catastrophic loss of motive power as documented in GM Service Bulletins PIP5847A and PIP6101.

My gut tells me the replacement is going to be the same engine with the same failing parts that I already have so expect I may have issues in the future even after the new engine. -on interstate going 55MPH, went to accelerate to 70MPH and throttle did nothing; no rpm,no down shift, no speed change. Just dead. Suddenly the truck shut off the engine and kicked my transmission into neutral. I tried to restart the truck hoping it would fire just long enough to get me to a safe zone with no luck as the starter would turn but nothing from the engine. Mind you this was rush hour in a construction zone with no shoulder available at the moment. Luckily I coasted, got to the slow lane and was able to veer off safely onto the side of an exit ramp. No notice, no way to safely limp my truck, just a complete shut down. How this isn’t a lawsuit or more people haven’t been seriously injured or worse is beyond me- a total shutdown while driving highway speeds and no way to overcome or at least limit the speed for a short period is unbelievable. Even though warranty is now through 2033/150k miles for the powertrain due to the recall, and I’ve also thought about adding 3-4 years extended for bumper to bumper with all the tech, I now have ZERO faith in my truck or my safety once I get it back. I also have many other problems that they cannot resolve, The Blind spot mirrors light will go off all the time with nothing there or a car will pass on the left side and both the left and right mirror lights will go off. The Bluetooth will disconnect from the Silverado and the person I am talking to can hear me just fine and the call is no longer over the speakers in the Silverado it is on the ear piece of my phone and then will go back to the speakers on the Silverado. I will get an alarm that says "Take Wheel" with hands at 10 and 2 on steering wheel looking straight ahead. Get an alarm that have trailer light problem and will turn on blinker and it will flash quickly for 10 seconds and then is normal. Radio skips on FM, AM, XM, MP3 Player at times. The Silverado has spent over 4 months and 25 times at a dealer since I bought it new and they have nor been able to resolve any of the problems and I have been told by GM that they are done working on this truck and they can not find the problems. Thank You

RE: FORMAL COMPLAINT–RECALL FRAUD & VIN TAMPERING SUBJECT: Falsified Recall N252494000 & 18 U.S.C. § 511 Violations VEHICLE: 2023 Chevy Silverado (VIN: [XXX] ) INCIDENT: March 7, 2026 FROM: [XXX] | [XXX] I am reporting severe Federal Recall Fraud and VIN tampering by Kunes Auto Group (WI). GM records and physical evidence prove Kunes falsified Safety Recall N252494000 (L87 Loss of Propulsion) and sold an illegally rebuilt wreck with mismatched VINs. 1. Falsified Recall: On 4/9/2024, Kunes logged a PicoScope Inspection marking the recall "Passed" (Trans #XX-XXX). The NHTSA remedy requires installing a 0W-40 oil cap/flush. When the engine seized on 3/7/2026, it still had the factory 0W-20 cap. Kunes billed GM for a safety remedy never performed. 2. Concealed Defects: Despite the "Closed" recall, the truck exhibited L87 defect symptoms. I brought it to Kunes three times (Oct 2025 - Feb 2026). They dismissed the warnings and released the truck as safe. 3. VIN Fraud (18 U.S.C. § 511): The 2023 truck has 2025-stamped frame/axle parts. Holz Motors (authorized GM) blacklisted it on 3/6/2026 (RO #1583470), stating in writing: "DUE TO... MISMATCHED VINS DOOR TO DASH, SALVAGED REAR AXLE... HOLZ WILL NOT BRING THIS TRUCK IN." 4. Highway Failure: On 3/7/2026, the L87 motor suffered total Loss of Propulsion at 70 MPH in traffic. The sudden loss of power steering/braking nearly caused a multi-vehicle fatality. REQUESTED ACTION: 1. Audit Kunes’s PicoScope data for the 4/9/2024 transaction. 2. Investigate remedy fraud (missing 0W-40 cap). 3. Investigate tampered/mismatched VINs and off-the-books rebuild. 4. Sanction dealer for fraudulent safety certifications. I declare under penalty of perjury these statements are true. This truck has a 6.2 engine that was recalled, inspected, and made the switch to the new oil, but then failed. I believe you already have a recall query rq26001 related to this matter. I received the recall notice July 2025, took the vehicle to Covert Bee Cave in Austin, TX July 2025. They told me it passed inspection and put the new oil cap on. Within two weeks I began having transmission issues. I left the truck with them for three weeks and they could not do anything about the transmission. The transmission issue did not reappear until a couple of weeks ago. I took it to Capitol Chevrolet and they replaced a shifter rod in the transmission, but I am not convinced that was the issue as it still shifted rough. Just a couple of days later, before I could take it back to have Capitol look at the transmission, and while driving on an Interstate south of San Antonio, TX, the engine slowed down, flashed a warning "Oil Pressure Low Turn Vehicle Off" and it continued to slow. I was barely able to exit the Interstate, the truck stopped and would not restart. I had it towed to Vara Chevrolet in San Antonio ($440 tow expense) and it still would not start. The technician finally inspected it a few days later, said the engine is seized, and they will need to replace the entire engine, and that it is covered under warranty (there was plenty of oil in my engine). He did not say anything about the transmission. I believe this is an example of my vehicle passing the recall inspection, changing to the new oil, and the engine still failing - and at a very dangerous time on the interstate.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Glass sunroof blew outwards driving 60mph on the highway. No other vehicles were around and I did not see anything impact the vehicle. The glass was broken outwards and created an 8” by 8” hole in the sunroof glass. There was no extreme temperature differential, approx. 55 degrees outside. It has been repaired and not available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? It sounded like a gunshot inside the truck, causing extreme distraction at highway speeds. Luckily the interior shade was closed and caught the glass, but if it was open all of the glass would have fallen on the passengers. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No the dealership did not consider it a manufacturing defect. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Insurance inspected the vehicle and it was covered under a glass claim. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No indication prior to the incident at all. It happened out of nowhere.

I asked how is my truck not priority sitting there for 93 days at the time. GM customer service has submitted my vehicle payment reimbursement as I paid 4 payments while having no vehicle or loaner. $44 a day for a rental at my duty station would cost me considerable amount of my own money to cover the rest and would not be a similar vehicle to my truck, as ot would be a small car. I am writing to formally document a series of catastrophic mechanical failures involving my vehicle, as well as serious inaccuracies currently reflected on the Carfax report. At approximately 15,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure that required a full engine replacement. Less than 900 miles after the engine replacement, the vehicle then suffered a catastrophic transmission failure, which also required replacement. In connection with the transmission failure, there was also a fuel module issue that left me stranded. These failures were not minor or routine service events. One breakdown occurred on a major roadway and required the road to be shut down due to the vehicle being disabled. Another breakdown occurred on the Florida Turnpike as a result of complete engine failure, leaving me stranded in a highly dangerous situation. Despite the severity of these events, the Carfax report does not accurately reflect what occurred. The Carfax report does not state that the engine was replaced, and the transmission failure is not identified as a transmission replacement at all. Instead, it is reported as routine or normal service, without any indication that a catastrophic transmission failure or replacement occurred. This misrepresentation significantly understates the true condition and mechanical history of the vehicle. Due to the repeated catastrophic failures, the circumstances under which they occurred, and the risk posed to my safety and the safety of my family, I am genuinely afraid to drive this vehicle. I want to ensure that all of this information is properly documented and that the vehicle’s records accurately reflect its true history and condition.

I am sending this email to report that my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado had its rear brakes lock up momentarily on consecutive days (1/13/26 & 1/14/26) driving 70-72 mph.  Each occurrence came on without warning and only lasted a brief moment, but locked up hard enough for my rear wheels to screech and slam me forward in the truck, thankfully there were no other vehicles near me. I took the truck to the dealership first thing in the morning on 1/15/26 to be informed later that day that the truck didn't show any codes.  The service department at my dealership contacted the TAC Dept. at GM and they determined that the problem was caused by the brake light wiring from my truck topper (that was after they asked if the customer had added any accessories to the truck).  I have had the topper for 3 years without any issues.  I reached out to the company that installed the topper and the owner said that GM is giving me the run around and trying to point the blame elsewhere. He himself has installed 100's of toppers and they follow the wiring instructions from Leer Toppers. He did a 30 second Google search and said [XXX] , the problem you have experienced is well documented online, GM knows what the problem is with your truck". My truck was at the dealership for 5 days before they released it to me, even after I told them that there are known and documented cases of their trucks experiencing momentary rear wheel lockups. I have called GM Customer Service twice and left messages regarding my truck and TAC # and haven't received a return call. I am fearful that when this happens again and if it does so in the wrong place at the wrong time the end of this story may be tragic.   If I was pulling a trailer, driving on ice or in rush hour traffic I can't imagine the outcome. GM knows they have a serious problem and they is comfortable in releasing a dangerous truck back onto the roads. My truck passed the recall PICO test right at 20,000 miles. The dealer put thicker 0w40 oil in. Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to formally report a safety-related defect involving the power unlatching tailgate switch on my Chevrolet 1500 truck and to request that this make and model be added to the current safety recall affecting Chevy HD vehicles. The power tailgate unlatching switch malfunctioned and would repeatedly attempt to open and close the tailgate while the truck was parked. On one occasion, this occurred continuously overnight. The following morning, my key fob was completely unresponsive, and the truck had zero battery life. The battery would not accept a charge, and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. Upon inspection, the dealership confirmed that the battery had been fully depleted and permanently damaged due to a short in the power tailgate switch. The faulty switch continuously drew power as it attempted to actuate the tailgate, ultimately destroying the battery. This failure created a serious safety and reliability concern, leaving me stranded with a completely inoperable vehicle. Given that this issue resulted from an electrical short and caused total battery failure, I believe it represents a significant safety defect. Based on the similarity to issues addressed in the current Chevy HD safety recall, I strongly believe this make and model should be included in that recall. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed and addressed to prevent other owners from experiencing the same hazardous situation. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, Charles Senn

My vehicle was part of the recall N25494000 L87 Engine loss of propulsion. Vehicle went in for recall on Sep-30th 2025, PicoScope Inspection was done and vehicle passed. Oil was changed to 0W 40 with new oil filter. Dec-26/27 of 2025 vehicle started stalling, for no reason but no Engine light. The dealer said there was no problem because there was no engine light, so there was no way to find out what was wrong. January 11th 2026 vehicle lost propulsion 7 times on the freeway, vehicle had a hard time re-starting and started smelling oil burning smell. Vehicle Engine light stayed on, 1/11/2026 vehicle was running a little rough with abnormal tapping noise but made it to the dealer for inspection.

The contact was informed by the dealer that the vehicle had passed inspection, and the dealer added a higher viscosity oil, installed 6 oil fill caps, and replaced the oil filter. The contact stated that six months after the vehicle was repaired, there was an abnormal squeaking sound coming from the engine. The contact stopped at a gas station to refuel. Afterwards, the vehicle failed to restart, and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that the engine had seized. The contact was at the gas station when the failure occurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer; however, no cause for the engine failure was found. The contact was informed that the sound was coming from one of the drive belts. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to another dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the abnormal sound was coming from loose bearings in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The long block in the engine and the radiator were replaced on January 1st. The contact stated that a week after the vehicle was repaired, the vehicle failed to start. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. However, no cause for the failure was found. The dealer recharged the battery. The contact stated that shortly afterwards, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the starter had failed. The contact requested that the dealer check the ground strap, but the dealer refused. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The contact stated that the dealer would notify the manufacturer of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,469.

was crossing an intersection when the truck suddenly and without warning stopped (engine). Unable to shift the truck into neutral in order to move the truck out of the flow of traffic. This is because the truck has the electronic shifter which requires the truck to be running in order to shift. There is not a manual override. So basically the truck was in the middle of an intersection with cars and trucks weaving around it until the tow truck arrived. But since the truck wasn’t able to be shifter into neutral the tow truck had to maneuver around to the front and “drag the truck onto a flat bed in order to clear the vehicle. Also it turns out that there is a major issue with the fuel pump module on these trucks and the tow truck driver said he has seen this happen a lot and very common. As a result these types of issues are likely to result in a near of fatal accident in the near future.

While driving and idling, my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country equipped with the 6.2L v8 engine began experiencing a persistent audible ticking/clicking noise from the engine bay, rough idle during cold starts, and noticeable/abnormal engine vibration. Shortly after, the check engine light came on. When scanned, diagnostic codes P0304 (Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected) and P050D (Cold start Rough Idle) were retrieved. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Chevrolet dealership, and the service advisor and technician confirmed hearing a consistent clicking noise and documented that they contacted GM's Technical Assistance Center (TAC case #80413912). The service order report states: "Due to unknown noise cannot perform recall. Called TAC 80413912 and was told need to figure out top end noise and misfire before proceeding with recall. If repairs are related to top end, will not be covered under recall." The technician indicated this could be related to a camshaft and lifter issue, which matches the symptoms outlined in GM's active propulsion system recall for 6.2L engines. Suggests GM aware & has not yet confirmed full recall coverage/repairs. This issue presents a significant safety risk because the engine could experience sudden power loss or failure while driving, potentially leading to loss of propulsion or control. These symptoms are identical to those described by GM in their recall documentation concerning valve lifter and camshaft failures. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by the dealership, and all documentation, diagnostics reports, and service notes are available for inspection upon request. Warning/check-engine lights first appeared in October 2025, and the problem persists. Based on GM's recall acknowledgment of similar failures, I believe this defect should be fully covered under the existing recall, and I am requesting NHTSA's review to ensure manufacturer addresses this safety-related defect promptly and without cost to owners.

I am filing a complaint regarding a potential recurring safety defect related to Recall NHTSA 25V274 (GM N252494001). On July 29, 2025, my vehicle stalled while driving on the highway and was towed to Quality Chevrolet. The dealer diagnosed a failed starter and battery fuse link. During this visit, I authorized inspection for Recall 25V274, concerning possible crankshaft or connecting rod failure. I was told my vehicle was not affected but the dealer performed the recall remedy by changing the oil to 0W-40. On October 5, 2025, the vehicle developed a loud knocking noise from the engine. Quality Chevrolet diagnosed a connecting rod failure, the same issue identified in the recall. On October 10, 2025, I was advised that GM approved a full engine replacement due to internal damage. However, I was also told the new engine will use lower viscosity 0W-20 oil, contradicting the prior remedy intended to prevent this failure. This suggests the original recall fix was only a temporary measure, and the defect remains unresolved. I request that NHTSA investigate whether the current recall remedy adequately corrects this safety issue and whether GM’s use of 0W-20 oil could allow repeat failures. Additionally, I request assistance or reimbursement for vehicle payments, as my vehicle has been undrivable for an extended period due to a manufacturer defect. Thank you for your time and attention. I can provide all service records and diagnostic reports upon request.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country has experienced multiple powertrain and transmission failures beginning shortly after purchase. The issues include violent shifting, hesitation, and stalling, particularly while accelerating or decelerating. These malfunctions create serious safety risks—especially when merging, turning left across traffic, or entering intersections. The truck has been returned to authorized GM dealerships multiple times for diagnostics and repair. GM service departments confirmed transmission faults but have not successfully resolved the issue despite repeated attempts. The same problems reoccur shortly after each repair. At times, the vehicle has entered “limp mode” unexpectedly while driving, causing a loss of power. On at least one occasion, this occurred while driving on a busy highway, forcing evasive action to avoid a collision. Warning lights such as the “check engine” light and service alerts frequently appear before or during these incidents. To date, the vehicle has been inspected by GM-certified technicians at authorized dealerships. A case has been opened with GM customer care and BBB AUTO LINE arbitration has been initiated. The truck remains unreliable and unsafe to operate, especially with children on board. The risk of sudden power loss or drivetrain malfunction poses a clear hazard to occupants and other drivers.

In the week since picking up the vehicle I have been operating it. I experienced two occasions where upon trying to accelerate at approximately 30 mph there was a severe jolt that caused the traction control warning light to flash. This was under minor acceleration just to maintain speed when going uphill. There was no indication prior to the event and once it had concluded the lights went off. I also experienced an occurrence of the rear wheels locking temporarily. I was traveling at approximately 40 mph on flat ground and gently stepped on the accelerator to maintain my speed in traffic. The rear tires locked for 1-2 seconds to the point the tires were squealing and you could smell burning rubber. There was no indication prior to the event that it was coming. Given my necessary reaction I was unable to see if there were any indicators or warnings present. Following the event there were no indicators illuminated. Over the past 4–6 months, the transmission in my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has repeatedly failed in a way that creates a serious safety hazard. On multiple occasions while driving at highway speeds, the transmission has locked up the rear end, causing a sudden and violent loss of control. These failures happen without warning and present a severe risk of total loss of vehicle control. Date(s) of Incident: Multiple occurrences between approximately March 2025 and August 2025 (exact dates unknown). Dealer / Manufacturer Response: I contacted Chevrolet Customer Care and multiple Chevrolet dealerships in my area (including John Megel Chevrolet, Dawsonville, GA). My most recent case was closed without resolution. I have been denied a loaner or reimbursement for a rental vehicle, and I have been told that the repair could take at least a month before even being assessed, with additional delays for parts. Consequence: This is not only a serious safety hazard but also a severe financial and employment hardship. I rely on this truck for my job, and without it, I cannot work. I am now three months behind on my truck payments and other bills, and I am on the verge of losing my job because I have no transportation. While driving 55 mph and towing my boat on a 2 lane paved road , I started up a slight incline and the transmission downshifted so hard that the rear wheels locked up long enough to throw us into the dash even with seat belts on. I turned around an drove back home with it locking up again. No codes or lights on the dash. Took it to dealer June 26,2025 for dealer to diagnose issue. They kept it overnight and drove it about 60 miles, called me the next day to pick it up saying they could not duplicate the rear wheel lockup and since there were no codes there was nothing to fix. Tried to tell me it was my boat trailer causing the issue. Boat trailer has surge brakes, nothing electrical on trailer brakes. Over the next couple days the rear wheels locked up 2 more times. Always as I started up an incline going around 50-55 mph. No lights or codes July 2, 2025 we recorded on video 2 rear wheel lockups with the second lockup starting a slight fishtail on dry pavement and leaving a 5 foot skid mark. Went back to the dealership with the video and they said again if there are no codes they can’t fix it and they would try to duplicate the issue for me to leave the truck and not give me a rental vehicle , and no timeline on how long they would try to duplicate the issue. I did not leave my truck there and they kept promising to call me when they had a loaner vehicle for me to use. On July 14, 2025 ,while still waiting for a loaner vehicle the transmission finally locked up the rear wheels and check engine light came on. My mileage was 43078, it took 1,193 miles to finally throw codes that the dealership would fix. Codes were P0700 and P0747. These are same codes for safety recalls N242454440 and N242454441. Obviously my vin is not included in the recalls but the dealership should have put the software on my truck the first time I was there on June 27th, the same day they completed the Pa.state inspection on my vehicle. I wouldn’t have had to experience this unsafe conditions.

The vehicle is now at the dealer for the second time regarding transmission shifting issues. First visit I was told they can find nothing wrong despite my experiencing transmission slipping, loud clanking on shifting, and severe jolting when shifting. While having a travel trailer hitched to the truck after the first visit, I experienced all the same issues with the addition of transmission overheating warnings on the dashboard and near complete stoppage of the vehicle at highway speed. The same dealer now says the transmission "valve body" is defective and is being ordered. Due to Towing a trailer with this truck (much lighter than rated capacity) I have the transmission fluid changed on nearly every oil change. The Transmission filter has been changed on the recommendation of my mechanic, strictly due to quantity of fluid changes.

After an oil change (06/21/25) we were told that it was normal because of the weather. A week after the check engine light was coming on intermediately (began 06/28/2025) depending on the day and the temperature outside (we are currently in the middle of a heat wave). The vehicle was taken to the dealership (07/02/2025) where they determined that the coolant flow was too low and found that the engine coolant pump is faulty and needs to be replaced. f the coolant is low in a Chevy Silverado and the engine overheats, it can lead to significant and potentially expensive engine such as a blown head gasket, cracked engine block, or even a complete engine failure or fire.

So I experienced a P1098 code in my 2023 Chevy Silverado with a 3.0 liter Duramax. When you get this code the truck will go into “limp” mode with reduce (nonexistent) acceleration and only go to about 60 miles per hour (63) I think. This could become a large safety issue if someone was to experience this going down the highway. It is also a VERY common problem doing internet searches. Seems that GM knows this is an issue but does nothing about it. In fact they even tried to remove the part from warranty because it was happening so often. Seems like this is something the government should look into and see what the true cause of the issue is. On the other hand some of the reliability of these engines is caused by the government implementing many restrictions on the manufacture to meet certain requirements. I am frustrated this happened along with probably with thousands of other owners. Thanks!

I own a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 equipped with the 6.2L V8 L87 engine. My vehicle is included in Recall Number 25V274 / N252494000, which addresses manufacturing defects in the connecting rods and/or crankshaft that can cause engine failure. My recall status currently shows: "Recall Incomplete, remedy not yet available." However, GM and NHTSA have already stated the remedy: a VIN-specific engine inspection, followed by either a replacement or an oil system update and extended warranty. I contacted my dealership, Lochmandy Chevrolet in Elkhart, Indiana [XXX] ), and was told on June 1, 2025, that they could not inspect my truck due to lack of tools or VIN clearance from GM. I was given no estimated timeline for when I can get my vehicle serviced. My concern is that I’m driving a known defective vehicle with a potential for sudden power loss or engine seizure—a serious safety hazard. My truck currently has 19,500 miles, and I’m worried about continued use without an inspection or remedy. I’m requesting that NHTSA follow up on GM’s delays in remedy deployment, ensure dealerships are equipped for inspections, and provide vehicle owners like me with a firm timeline for repairs. This is the third time since the purchase date of July 2023, that my Diesel 1500 Silverado has gone into "Reduced Engine Power" while driving. The first date was August 2024, while traveling down the interstate. The check engine light came on. My maximum speed was reduced to 50mph, and the transmission shifting was very jerky. This was extremely dangerous with the flow of traffic traveling 70+ mph. I returned to the dealer where the vehicle sat on the lot for approximately 60 days awaiting the part (Valve Body) from GM. Components were repaired through warranty. Fast forward to February 2025, "Reduced Engine Power" notification came on again with the code P0747, P700. Returned to dealer, and after a week of sitting on the lot, the technician could not duplicate the code. I requested that a new fuel filter be replaced for piece of mind. Today, 3 mos. later, as I was backing out of my driveway, my truck did not shift/engage into Reverse. I was able to roll into the road & put it in Drive, however it went into "Reduced Engine Power." The vehicle will have to be towed, at my expense, I'm sure, to further diagnose the cause. The truck does not move when shifted into Reverse, and pressure is applied to the pedal. It is extremely concerning knowing a national recall on identical GM components has been reported, and yet I have had identical issues without resolution. Despite the known problems and safety risks, especially with a child in the vehicle during each failure, I’ve been left without consistent or timely support. I am requesting immediate assistance in diagnosing and repairing this vehicle, as well as a formal explanation of why this recurring issue has not triggered a broader response or replacement. At this point, I’m also considering pursuing further action through GM corporate or a consumer protection agency if a permanent resolution is not reached.

In August 2024 my 6.2 Chevrolet Silverado motor blew up. I was driving uphill when all the sudden it made a very loud sound like I had floored it and I had not. The engine revved really, really really high red line then it flashed across my dash to turn off the motor and the vehicle just shut itself off.. It left me stranded in the middle of the road and had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealer. It took them approximately 3 weeks to diagnose it as a catastrophic engine failure. At 383 miles the engine started a ticking noise. Around the same mileage the transmission would also start make hard down shifts, especially into 1st gear. On [XXX] around [XXX], I was driving my Silverado down [XXX] near the Cottonwood Mall in Albuquerque, NM. Without warning, the engine died in the center lane of this busy highway. I turned on the emergency flashers, then while trying to call for emergency help on my phone, I stood behind the truck, waving traffic to the side lanes in an effort to prevent being rear ended. After about 10 minutes, luckily, an emergency fire department truck spotted my distress and doubled back, parked behind me and engaged his emergency lights. A good Samaritan stopped an attempted to toe strap me to the shoulder of the road. However, the poor design of this truck didn't allow me to put the transmission in neutral unless the vehicle is running. So, after about an hour, the tow truck driver was able to drag the Silverado on the back of his flatbed. After my truck was at the dealer for a week, they were able to determine that the engine main bearings seized and spun a couple of rod bearings. While driving my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 with the 6.2L engine (approx. 22,000 miles) on a busy interstate in another state, the vehicle suddenly lost power and shifted into neutral without warning. I was towing a 5,000-pound camper and had my wife and three children in the truck. We were traveling on a slight incline when the truck unexpectedly disengaged. There were no warning lights, no messages, and no sounds indicating engine failure—just a sudden loss of drive. All displays remained illuminated, but I had no power to the wheels. By the grace of God, I was able to maneuver to the median before the truck and camper came to a complete stop. It was a terrifying and dangerous situation that could have resulted in a major accident given the speed of traffic, the weight of the trailer, and the total lack of warning. The truck was towed to a Chevrolet dealer across the state line. After running diagnostics, I was told the engine had failed and would need to be replaced under warranty. However, I have yet to receive a clear explanation of what exactly failed internally. I was informed that a replacement engine is back-ordered by several months, leaving me without a vehicle and unsure when it will be repaired. The incident has not yet been investigated by the manufacturer, insurance, or law enforcement. This experience was frightening not just because of the mechanical failure, but because it happened with zero indication. I hope others don’t have to go through something like this. I understand thousands of these trucks may never see a failure like this—but for us, it happened suddenly, with our entire family on board, and it nearly ended in disaster.

During gear down-shift the rear wheels briefly lock up. This event can be duplicated easily at around 45mph, by slowing due to uphill grade or slowing traffic, then upon normal application of throttle to resume course the transmission shifts to next lowest gear (3 or 4, not sure) there occurs a brief and sudden horrendous jerk as the rear wheels lock & skid. The event lasts less than 1/4 sec, but happens multiple times per day as that speed/load condition is frequent. On occasion, the same can occur in a parking lot ~10mph, but isn't as violent. The first occurrence was at mileage 38,000; the vehicle now has 45,000 miles. This appears to be the same issue as NHTSA Recall No 24V-797, which does not include my vehicle's production year.

The symptoms since the beginning of 2024 have been that when braking between 7 and 10 mph, you feel a bump or a skid, and when you stop, the engine shakes for a moment as if it's going to shut off. This happens with the Auto Stop-Start off. A sudden braking moment can affect the vehicle's performance, making it difficult to control and increasing the risk of accidents, especially when it comes to a pickup truck that may have a trailer with cargo or objects in the bed that can be thrown. The trailer can even leave the road, losing control of the car. In 2024, I took the truck to the place where I bought it, Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland, for a checkup. I explained all the symptoms to my advisor, just as I do here. I had to take it to wait for a loaner. A few days later, I took it back, and they had it for almost a week. When I picked it up, my advisor told me everything was fine. When I left the dealership, I found the same symptoms, so I went back and told him the car was still doing the same thing, and he told me it was normal. After much insistence, he got in the car with me to show him the problem, and the car did it several times, but according to him, it was normal. Now, in 2025, a week ago I took it to Miami Lakes Auto Mall to get checked out with the same symptoms and explanation. I started investigating why that couldn't possibly be normal car operation. They found they had to replace the torque converter and valve body because they found an excessive amount of metal in the transmission. The valve body is on back order indefinitely at all dealerships, so I had to take the car in that condition. Before taking it, I spoke with the manager and GM to ask them to give me a car until they fixed mine because it wasn't right for me to drive the car like that. But they didn't offer me anything. I took it back to Bomnin Chevrolet Dadeland and they told me they were going to change the transmission and torque converter and conveniently they didn't have to change the valve.

Dealer confirmed that there was an issue with the camshaft/lifters and that they have had to perform this repairs to 8 other trucks with the same 6.2L engine. (Original repair bill is attached). Dealer performs the repairs, takes the truck for a test drive and within a few miles the engine completely seizes up stranding the truck in the middle of the road. They believe it was a separate issue that caused the engine to seize up and now after 12k of repairs I will also need to purchase a completely new engine. Currently waiting on the price and availability of a new engine but was told I may have to wait a long time since this is such a common issue there aren’t many available. Would be more than happy to share additional Info as it becomes available. The motor of our vehicle failed while driving on the interstate. The vehicle is at a dealership for repairs and should be available for inspection. With little to no warning our truck quickly went from 70 MPH to completely shut down. We had to go from the left lane on the interstate to the shoulder. In the process we were very close to a collision. We were also hauling our camper (2023 Forest River R-Pod 153, which has a dry weight of 3,421 lbs and we had no water in our fresh/grey/or black tanks). When we merged into the right lane our truck was going so slowly on the interstate that we were almost hit and honked at before we could get to the shoulder safely. The problem was confirmed by the dealership that is working on it. The motor spun 4 rod bearings and it was a total motor failure. The vehicle was/is still under warranty. The manufacturer, I would assume, has inspected it as we are receiving a full motor replacement. That motor has been and continues to be on back order with no ETA for 2 months now. There were no warnings in how the truck was running. There were no warnings on the dash, warning lights, or any indication that our truck was going to break down.

We were driving our truck with our family on vacation. We were going slowly entering the parking lot to our hotel when a sudden loud grinding noise caused our truck to shudder and shake. We stopped and got out and didn’t see that we ran over anything. We started to proceed and the sound was the same. We parked in a stall and left the vehicle overnight. No check engine lights were on. No warnings at all. It was Memorial Day weekend 2023. There were no dealerships open where we were vacationing, 3 hours from home. Very inconvenient. Later when the dealer looked at it, the thrust bearing was bad and the engine was shot. Needed a full replacement at 10,600 miles.

When all the brake settings are set to factory and I back out of my vehicle onto the main road in front of my driveway the vehicle will occasionally detect something and lock the vehicle in park with emergency brake engaged. I then have to put the vehicle in drive all this while oncoming traffic may or may not be oncoming. The brake engagement happens if the corn in the field is blowing the right way or shadows from the tress. I had this into the dealer and also contacted the manufacture. Engine seized at 330 miles. I’ve recently seen the investigation into crank bearing failure on the L87. We upfit new vehicles. This was a test truck. We pulled oil from another identical chassis with 10 miles on it and sent it in for testing to a 3rd party. At 100C/212F the viscosity was under 7 and it should be 20. It is our belief that GM has faulty bulk oil they’re putting in new vehicles.

Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

No idea where the problem lies due to inconsistent trouble codes, the truck will randomly start jerking and sometimes kill itself after throttle won’t respond no matter the speed. Multiple random electrical issues, including, but not limited to: 1) "Service ESC" warning activates causing the truck to have greatly reduced speed and power. Extremely dangerous at expressway speeds in heavy traffic. 2) Electrical system & engine completely shuts down with no warning. Extremely dangerous for obvious reasons. Temporarily remedied by disconnecting/reconnecting battery, thus resetting the system. Problems have been confirmed by the dealer, Bomnin Chevrolet- Dadeland. At approximately 9k mi the engine performance (2.7L MAX Turbo) started to become intermittent. I always record the fuel milage, and always drive the same way, to/from work. NOTE: Displayed mpg calculates within 1% of actual. We can assume the driving habits are identical each time. While driving on the same tank of fuel for a week at a time: one day heading to work the indicated mpg might be 17 mpg. Driving home, about 10 minutes into the drive, it might increase 25 mpg. The following day it could be the same 17/25 mpg or it might be 25/17. The weather is somewhat dependent, whereas around =<43F the 17 mpg is almost a guarantee. While the indicated lower mpg is displayed, a direct lack of engine power is noticeable. The accelerator is dangerously non-responsive, all the while of pressing the pedal >3/4 to the floor. There is also no downshifting from the transmission whatsoever. To make the engine respond to change, the accelerator must be fully pressed to the floor, forcing the transmission into a lower gear and causing the engine to 'wake up'. When the mpg is above 20 or 21 mpg, (and temperatures >50F) the engine performs normally, where gradual accelerations to the pedal increase the engine speeds and down shift as expected. I have contacted GM through the 'MyCheverlot' app a couple of times, and have taken the truck to the dealer twice for this. Both times from the dealer it was stated that since the engine light was not on and no codes were stored, there was nothing that could be done. The dealer installed a software update and sent me on my way. Lastly, the 4WD is now making a grinding/rubbing noise, since the software update and overcomes the engine power while making turns from a stopped position. If no acceleration is applied, the truck will come to a rapid complete stop if rolling <10 mph. Truck is a LEMON!!

While stopped at an intersection my truck lost all electrical power. a couple of seconds later the dash lights came on saying that the vehicle did not have any brakes or brake assist. Then while the vehicle was still in drive it started. due to the brakes not working the vehicle jerked forward. I put the car in neutral. The light turned green and I was able to get out of intersection and then went to the side of the road. While driving this short distance the vehicle displayed that because the brakes were not working it would not go over 62 MPH. Once I was able to stop I shut vehicle off. I waited a short time and restarted the vehicle. This appeared to fix the braking problem but the check engine light stayed on. Drove home with no further issues and called for service which will be 2/19/24. Mostly my concern is that the vehicle restarted while in drive with the vehicle having no brakes.

2023 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 purchased 7/10/2023 with a 6.2L gasoline engine - Lifter and engine bearing failure leading to complete engine failure at 5920 miles on [XXX]. Dealership has been in possession of the vehicle since [XXX]. Engine failed, leaving me stranded at an intersection blocking traffic in single digit temperatures. Due to the electronic gear shift, there was no way to put the vehicle in neutral to move it from the intersection. The tow truck driver was forced to drag the vehicle onto flatbed tow truck, possibly damaging other components in the process. This appears to be a common issue that is known by General Motors without remedy. Appears to be related to the Dynamic Fuel Management system and spring-loaded lifters that fail. The vehicle has been inspected by Chevrolet Dealer, who determined it needs a full engine replacement. There were no warning lamps or messages leading up to the failure. Vehicle drove normal for over 100 miles on the highway. Upon exiting the highway, the auto start stop feature turned the engine off at a stop light. Upon letting off the brake, the engine struggled to start back up and check engine light came on. Pulled over immediately, and upon stopping at the stop sign the engine seized and would not restart. This led to me blocking an intersection for over an hour in single digit temperatures waiting for the police and a tow truck. 2023 Silverado 1500 3.0 Duramax. Transmission failure and engine overheating at 5k miles. I was towing a trailer when the 1st transmission failure occurred. The engine shut off, and said shift to N to start while coasting with loss of power braking. I was able to get started but transmission would slip when shifting above 1st gear. I had to tow to the nearest level point to safely park the vehicle, for fear of rolling backwards down 8% grade. At that point the computer was showing engine overheat loss of power warnings. GM roadside assistance towed to nearest dealer, refilled transmission with fluid, and put me back on the road for it to fail again in traffic (loss of power / unable to move). I have now been without vehicle going on 30 days and worry there is more wrong with the vehicle than just a blown transmission (latest GM diagnosis with no repair eta). For a few hours prior to failure I noticed what seemed like the transmission hunting for gears at lower speeds (0-25) with hesitation. Could have been slipping. And also noticed strange / louder than usual turbo noises. I worry the system is generating too much pressure or has mixed oil with coolant somewhere, based on finding atf, coolant, and engine oil near the overflow and all over the bottom of the vehicle. GM support has been atrocious and someone should step in.

The automatic emergency breaking never worked. I took it to the dealership and they told me the computer didn't show anything wrong. I could tell the safety features weren't behaving properly though. While I was driving the breaks completely failed. Luckily I controlled the vehicle to a stop. Every light on the dash was on. I turned the of and restarted it. When I did the break peddle pumped repeatedly on its own hard back at me and made an awful noise. The check engine light came on and stayed on. From that point I tried to get to a safe location to call a tow truck to take the truck back to the dealership. While I drove I managed to get some video of the detection system as I closed distance to the vehicle ahead it saying the gap was widening and the car right in front of me would disappear. Then as the vehicle would pull away, the sensors would say the gap was closing. My safety and others was absolutely put at risk. If anyone would have been ahead of me when the breaks failed it would have been a deadly colission. After I told the dealership there was an issue and they told me I was wrong, then this happened, they have confirmed there is a problem and have had the truck for over a week trying to repair it. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance reps. There was no warning lamps prior to the failure. The only symptom was that the safety features that were stated to be on the vehicle never worked. The truck was specifically marked to have automatic breaking, safety assist, front pedestrian breaking, following distance indicator, and forward colission alert that never worked on a brand new vehicle that never worked from the day I purchased the vehicle. I did report it by calling and even bringing the truck in to be looked at and I was told there was "no issue" by the dealership. Then the break failure took place.

I was driving Eastbound on highway 150 on my way to work. I have adaptive cruise control in my truck and have used it many times before on this exact road with no issues. Traffic was moving slow and the adaptive cruise control was following the car in front of me exactly how it is designed to do (ACC can be turned on at speeds as low as 5 mph in this vehicle and can come to a complete stop and restart movement from a complete stop). I drove through a section of this road right after the lake crossing where the morning sun was pretty bright directly facing us for a few seconds. During this time my foot was off of the accelerator and brake as instructed by the vehicle manual for safe operation of the ACC system. In these few seconds the truck unexpectedly accelerated aggressively with no warning and before I had a chance to react the truck rear ended another vehicle, pushing it into the car in front of them as well. I have been found liable so far by insurance. I am trying to argue on my behalf. I firmly believe I am not personally liable for this accident. The system in the truck is supposed to fail safe (meaning when meeting uncertain variables, such as low camera visibility, the vehicle should disengage the ACC instead of aggressively accelerating with no information of what is in front of it) and it did not in this circumstance. As stated, I had no input to the accelerator or the brake at the time of the accident according to the owners manual safe operation of this system. The vehicle FAILED to disengage the ACC system as it was supposed to and caused an accident I had NO TIME to react to by aggressively accelerating without any warning. The vehicle has been appraised for repair by the insurance company and was found to have $7000 in damages.

Component Failure Cascade Risk

Known patterns where one defect leads to more severe downstream failures

CriticalEGR issue detected

Head gasket failure and engine overheating — EGR cooler failure is the leading cause of catastrophic engine failure on diesel engines

CriticalOIL COOLER issue detected

Engine oil starvation leading to bearing failure — blocked oil cooler is fatal to the engine if not addressed immediately

CriticalTIMING CHAIN issue detected

Valve and piston damage — timing chain/belt failure causes immediate catastrophic engine damage at any speed

HighABS issue detected

Loss of brake assist and ABS in emergency — can significantly extend stopping distances

HighDEF issue detected

Engine derate or no-start condition — DEF system failure puts vehicle into limp mode limiting speed to 5mph

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 353 total NHTSA complaints filed over 4 years, with the worst year being 2025 (157 complaints, including 2 crash reports).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 70/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

The recall (red dashed line) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.

Red dots on the amber line flag 4 years (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
