In May, my 2015 Ford Fiesta SE went into "limp mode" before reaching the speed limit of 25mph. Immediately afterwards it was taken into a local shop, Mobile Mechanic, where no codes were active and coolant level was between min and max level. Next day, car experienced misfiring check engine light and overheating before being looked at by a mechanic. Mechanic replaced spark plugs due to code reading misfiring in cylinder 3. Car still continued to misfire and due to slight lower level of coolant, Engine overheated and cracked a cylinder block in the 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. This car is used to travel with two children under [XXX] and [XXX]. The beginning of June the car overheated on a hot day traveling home with the two kids and myself. We had to sit in the heat for close to an hour before temperature gauge returned to normal, I checked the coolant and it was still between min and max levels. On the same trip, it was on the verge of overheating again due to climbing the hill before our house. After finding out the cylinder block was cracked by my mechanic we discovered there has been a recall issue with the same engine, Recall 17S09, that began in January 2018, a month before I purchased my car from Redwood Ford in Ukiah California ([XXX]). I called W. C. Sanderson Ford in Healdsburg, California on July, 15th, 2025 to see if it would be possible to see if this recall was actually fixed on my vehicle, which they responded that the recall has nothing to do with my car and they can't do anything about my car. The representative specifically said that due to my car being 10 years old it has been disqualified of the recall and is no longer attached to my VIN. I have taken this car to the same local mechanic 4 times since the ending of May, 2025 for the same issues before we discovered the cracked cylinder block, mechanic took pictures of fluid and water inside cylinder 3. Has the vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance = No, but I did call Ford's service line to notify them; no action taken on their part. Any warnings = No sounds, no transient loss of power, no warning lights; just a sudden "bang" and "lurch".

In order to keep the doors from opening, I have taken my backseat belts and looped them through the door handles and fastened them. For as long as I've had my car - 2017 till now - it's had what I term a "hiccup" after receiving gas. The engine would slightly shudder for the first 5-10 minutes after I filled the car with gas. This was not from overfilling the tank as I never max out the tank. I didn't think much about this until a few months ago. A few minutes after filling my car with gas, the engine shuddered severely and the RPM dropped to zero. This caused the engine to die and left me unable to exit from the turn lane. No warning lights appeared on my dash. I turned on the hazard lights and rolled down the window, but eventually all the lights inside the car died. I was stuck in a left turn lane, unable to move. I had to stick my hand out the window to direct other cars to drive around me. I requested a tow via my car insurance company and the drive arrived within ~15 minutes. The tow truck driver was able to restart my car and we towed it to the local Ford Service center. I explained the issue to the service department, but they were unable to replicate the issue and thus did not resolve it. Since then, the same issues has occurred every time I refill the gas tank. Regardless of how much gas is added or how full the tank was after receiving gas. After adding gas, I have begun immediately parking at the gas station to wait out the engine shudders. They do stop after ~10 minutes, but during that time they have caused the engine to die again. In the past weeks, I've also begun to observe a minor engine shudder even when stopped at a red light. I have never observed a warning light. Online research has shown a number of other people experiencing this issue. It seems the likely cause is a faulty fuel vapor purge valve. This valve may be allowing liquid fuel to flow to the engine, causing the engine to shudder and die. I will be taking my car to a different service center in hopes of the issues being resolved and not getting stranded again. I’ve owned my 2015 Ford Fiesta for about 7 years now. Within the first year, I contacted the Ford dealership explaining noises when driving and my dual clutch shifting gears. I sent them video sound recordings. They said it was typical of this transmission. The car has never felt smooth but “ok enough,” until 18months ago when I reported gears slipping. No error codes were detected but parts of my clutch were replaced. Now, 16,000 miles later I brought my car into ford dealership saying I felt the gears slipping. They diagnosed a few other maintenance pieces like brakes and tires but said nothing was detected with the transmission and clutch. 3 weeks later, I was driving on a highway - lake shore drive in chicago, and my check engine light came on. My car would not change gears or accelerate past the 30mph I had been going. I felt like I was in neutral. I exited, fearing an accident. In stop and go traffic I used my hazard lights because I could not accelerate at each stop sign. I made it to a safe spot to pull over and then realized i could not reverse! I had my car towed to the ford dealer from 3 weeks prior. At this point they could read a few clutch error codes but cannot be certain of the actual cause. In order to do so, they need my consent of a possible $1500 service charge for investigating the issue. Ford costumer service line has said “oh wow, we’re glad your weren’t in an accident. I’m Sorry, your car does not meet criteria for any support from Ford.” Ford has knowingly kept these faulty transmissions on the road and now they are telling me that they will not help look into my vehicle’s transmission and safety issues. This seems unreasonable when the issue is clearly linked to the faulty dual clutch Powershift system. 1.5 million Ford Fiestas may still be registered and driven with Ford offering nothing other than “I’m really glad you dodged an accident and made it off the highway.”

This is 3/5 and these are all ACCIDENTS. In early 2019, I was coming home from a medical appointment in the morning. I was the 4th car, sitting at the busy intersection of 9 Mile and Kelly, which was ON 9 Mile, going West. The light was red. I had my seat belt on, like always, my foot on the brake, looking straight ahead at the light. Suddenly, the car shook, like as if a semi was going by, but no one was moving. And even tho my foot was squarely on the brake, the car took off, like someone had pressed the accelerator peddle! Quickly I pressed as hard as I could down further on the brake, but it didn't matter. The car kind of jumped, then took off, again, like someone was had stomped on the accelerator. I was in the right-most lane, I slammed into the Sedan in front of me, which shoved his car off the road, up the edge, and onto the sidewalk, so I was almost sideways. I was horrified. My air bags did not deploy. The man driving and a 2nd man got out, they were furious, screaming what was wrong with me? I didn't know how to explain that the car took off on its own, while my foot was on the brake! He was yelling and screaming, luckily his air bags didn't do off either. This dented his bumper, but he didn't have insurance, didn't want to get the police involved or make a report, which was fine with me. Since, I have been very cautious stopped at lights, always expecting this to happen again, and it has! Not as dramatically, but sitting stopped, foot on brake, no rhyme or reason, car suddenly jumps, accelerates. I thought I must be going crazy, I've never heard of a car doing this. Well reading the reports of the Ford Fiesta problems, I see other cars doing this too. I won't take it across like a bridge, imagine it accelerating over the side into the Great Lakes. Very dangerous.

It had snowed. I had delivered to a farm, drove back to main road, but on the way, stopped to look at and take photo from car of some cute horses wearing coats. No one around, road pretty flat. As I went to move forward, this is really bad, the road went UP and it was angled, the car again, took off, as in my other report. Luckily I had my seatbelt on. I believe I had just shifted to Drive, foot still on brake, and this car was like I had stomped down on the accelerator. Also luckily, I was not facing those horses! I couldn't believe it, car went flying UP this road, brakes not working, I could steer, it was taking me right towards a BUSY ROAD. My heart was pounding, going UP this angled road, should have stopped the momentum, it did not. I turned the steering wheel, hard, to the right. Somehow as the tracks in the snow showed, the car did go to the right, but it kept going, across the road I was on, to the left side, into a ditch and a bale of hay! This was about 1 house from that main, busy road. With new tires. 1st a FedEx driver saw what happened, asked about the tracks going to one side then the other. He tried to pull me out, but couldn't. Then a nice farmer and his gf stopped, he had a large 4-wheel drive, after an hour, even with shovels, we couldn't get out, he went back home, brought a 2nd truck, some ropes, they slowly dragged me out, away from hay stacks. They also noticed my basic S-curve, I couldn't stop, so I drove into the hay! This Ford did what it did before, took off with no pressure on the accelerator. It was stopped. I certainly didn't stomp down, I was braking and steering. I was stuck in freezing cold for 2+ hours. Then spent $325 on new brakes, rotors.

Hitting brakes, I flew almost to Hiller Rd., brakes not working, car speeding, steering worked. Tried to slow down, was on South side of road, on people's lawns. Going so fast, I went into ditch, then came up out of ditch! Narrowly avoided mailboxes. Last house before Hiller Rd. on my right, tried to slow down in large lot next door, didn't work. They have huge boulders along edge of grass, I not only slammed into a boulder, but they had chopped down trees too, laid them down along edge of grass with boulders. Car went UP, against gravity, ONTO one of these trees, before hitting the boulder. If you can imagine, from hood to bumper, and further out each end, I was UP, on top of a tree, the bumpers dug into it, so the 4 tires were loose on each side, front hit boulder. Hadn't put on seatbelt yet, my head slammed into steering wheel, airbags didn't deploy again, $400 cell phone screen split, cracked. I hit my head so hard, it knocked me out, I'm not sure how long, seconds to minutes. Came to, was on tree, tried to somehow dig car out, with flashlight and crowbar. Ended up calling Amazon emergency, it was Sunday, too early, not there. Called Geico, then 3 other tow co.'s, after 2 hours Lakeside Towing came by, had to use winch and flatbed, had to chop up tree was on, pull back from boulder. Was stuck there for hours. Received extended warranty notice in September, 2019. Vehicle is still under 100,000 miles and was purchased in 2018. DPS6 module failed and caused break to lock up and all accessories in vehicle to stop performing. Had to get work done and ford required me to pay for replacement and labor of defective part. Clutch seems to not shift properly and causes a shuddering in the transmission. I have difficulty accelerating after coming to a complete stop (such as at a light). Reported these issues to dealership I had purchased vehicle from in 2018, shortly after purchase. Everyone continued to tell me there was no defect with the transmission or the clutch. I went to a few different ford dealers to inquire about the extended warranty notice on the powershift transmission: “Ford Motor Company's commitment is not only to manufacture high-quality, reliable products, but to also achieve full customer satisfaction. To demonstrate this commitment, we offer you the Customer Satisfaction Program at no cost for your vehicle with the VIN above. For your peace of mind, Ford Motor Company will extend the coverage of the clutch warranty. This program increases clutch warranty coverage to a total 7 years or 100,000 miles from the warranty start date, whichever be fulfilled first. NOTE: Your vehicle may have a vibration or intermittent jerk in the transmission clutch when accelerating smoothly after being stopped, during shift events.” (Ford Motor Company). According to a number of Ford employees, none of these defects are covered by Ford Motor Vehicle Company. Also, there were no DPS6 Modules available; the part was out of stock for 6 months. Service tech recommended I order part online; even provided name on shipment information; confirming he authorized and accepted the use of non-ford part. When accelerating, there is a shuddering sensation as you can feel the clutches slipping. The shifting is also sluggish at times. When in "sport mode" an error state can occur where the transmission fails to shift gears altogether and a warning comes up on the dashboard to service the transmission immediately. While that error is up, the shuddering becomes much worse and the engine will try to lurch forward at random times when it chooses the wrong gear. This lurching will fight the brakes too, decreasing stopping distance if the driver isn't extra diligent. This error state is cleared by stopping and starting the car again. There are no other visible dashboard warnings associated with this issue in daily driving. I took it to a local service center to be diagnosed and they determined it was either a worn clutch or a faulty TCM in need of a replacement. I took it to the Ford dealership in the area, and they narrowed it down to the clutch and not the TCM. Ford issued an extended warranty for this issue on other 2015 Ford Fiestas, but mine fell just outside the required build date despite having identical symptoms as what the warranty was for on the other cars. The car is only 7 years old with 92k miles on it, so if it was part of the aforementioned extended warranty (7 years or 100k miles) it would qualify, but not for much longer. This seems to be a known issue that Ford never fixed despite the car being outside the extended warranty cutoff.

The clutch pedal sticks to the floor after driving on the highway for 30 minutes or so. The clutch pedal can be brought back up by lifting it with my foot. The clutch pedal has a very minimal amount of travel in it when this happens and can be pumped to bring back normal operation for a few minutes. There doesnt seem to be a fluid leak in the system. My local dealer inspected the clutch slave cylinder and it appeared to be operational and otherwise fine. The risk this poses is that i need to be able to shift gears and otherwise operate the car properly in case of an emergency. a sticking clutch pedal prevents me from being able to select the correct gear for my road speed, and it affects the ability for a controlled takeoff from a stop, this potentially affects my ability to react to an emergency as well. The dealer was not able to recreate the problem because it takes too long or a certain set of circumstances to replicate the issue. The car does not have a warning light or message for this.

Since early Friday morning on 11/5/21, my Ford Fiesta has been having an intermittent involuntary braking issue associated with all of the lights flickering on/off and the gauges swiping back/forth on the cluster/dashboard while driving. I also noticed the “Hill Assist Control” alert pops up on the radio monitor with the involuntary braking. As well as the sound of the door being open with the key in the ignition will come on while the involuntary braking occurs. Additionally, the windows were resisting being rolled up while driving but will roll up when in park. I also noticed this braking problem tends to reoccur with accelerating quickly or making a turn. On friday afternoon on 11/5/21, I had cautiously drove with my hazards on, while the intermittent involuntary braking problem continued to persist, to my local Autonation Ford to ask about a safety recall associated with this involuntary braking problem and they told me there was no safety recall associated with this problem at this time. They told me that I would need to pay $1100 to replace and reprogram my cluster/dashboard computer. This is unacceptable given the inherent safety risks associated with this intermittent and involuntary braking problem. I believe I should be able to replace and reprogram my cluster/dashboard computer for free due to the safety risks. Thank you for reviewing and considering my proposal of my safety issue.

THEY ARE UNRESPONSIVE TO EXPLAIN WHY I DON'T GET THE EXTENDED COVERAGE WHEN MY VEHICLE CLEARLY QUALIFIES. THERE SHOULD BE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY COVERAGE ON THIS VEHICLE FOR 100K MILES VS 60K MILES. WHEN I ASK ABOUT IT, THEY TELL ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THE CAR ONLY HAS 53K MILES ON IT. IT HAS SUFFERED FAILED CLUTCHES, WORN INPUT SHAFT BEARINGS, AND PROBABLY A BAD TCM. IT IS IN THE SHOP NOW FOR THE TCM. THE PROBLEMS CAUSE SHUTTERING, LURCHING, POOR ACCELERATION, AND FAILURE TO DOWNSHIFT, WHICH IS DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC. THE AMOUNT OF FUEL I ADDED TO THE TANK DID NOT SEEM TO MATTER AS EACH TIME I DID SO, THE ENGINE WOULD STUMBLE OR STALL WITHIN 1-2 MINUTES FOLLOWING THE FILL-UP. ONCE THE STUMBLING OR STALL HAD OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION WITHOUT ISSUE (OR UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE) UNTIL THE NEXT TIME I WOULD NEED TO ADD FUEL. THE STUMBLING AND STALLING WAS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS AS IT TENDED TO OCCUR AS I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION, MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AT A BUSY INTERSECTION OR ON-RAMP.

01/19/2015 MY BOYFRIEND HAD DRIVEN MY CAR TO THE STORE, ABOUT ONE MILE FROM MY HOME. ABOUT 10:40 PM. RECEIPT SHOWS THAT HE HAD CHECKED OUT AT 10:53 PM. HE TELLS ME THAT HE ENTERED MY CAR ABOUT 3 MINUTES LATER, BECAUSE IT WAS PARKED CLOSE TO THE STORE, HE LOADED THE SHOPPING BAGS INTO THE TRUNK OF THE CAR AND GOT IN AND STARTED THE CAR AND BACKED OUT FROM THE PARKING SPACE, AND THEN WENT FORWARD HE STATES IT WAS ABOUT NO MORE THEN 25 YARDS, WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE CARS TRANSMISSION, AT FIRST HESITATED TO SHIFT, AND THEN MADE A SLIGHT JERK TO THE NEXT GEAR, THEN JERKED ONCE AGAIN SLIGHTLY. HE TELLS ME THAT HE THEN STOP THE CAR, AND STARTED AGAIN FORWARD, AND AT THIS TIME, HE DID NOT FEEL ANY PROBLEMS, SO I AGAIN STOPPED THE CAR, AND PUT IT INTO REVERSE. AND BACKED UP AT 4 MPH, HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY PROBLEMS. HE AGAIN STOPPED THE CAR, AND THEN DROVE AGAIN FORWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH WITH NO PROBLEM TO HOME. 01/20/2015 I GOT INTO MY CAR WITH MY BOYFRIEND TO GO TO WORK, 915 AM. BOYFRIEND DRIVING. WE DROVE MY CAR OUT OF THE APARTMENT COMPLEX WHERE I RESIDE, AND DID NOT NOTICE A SHIFTING PROBLEM, UNTIL WE ENTERED THE STREET, AND THAT IS WHEN THE CAR HESITATE TO SHIFT UPON ACCELERATION, AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP LOUDLY, AND THEN JERKED INTO GEAR. AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP MY BOYFRIEND TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISER ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE CARS TRANSMISSION, AND HE WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISER, THAT FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE ISSUE, AND HAD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN. HE THEN WENT ON TO STATE THAT THE FORD SERVICE BULLETIN STATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED MY A FAULTY TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, AND ALSO A INTERNAL LEAK IN THE CLUTCH HOUSING ON THE TRANSMISSION, AND THAT FORD WILL ONLY REPAIR THE ISSUE AT 1,500 MILES, NOT BEFORE THAT TIME. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COULD BE COMPUTER TUNED TO HELP STOP THE PROBLEM. *TR
