4 maintenance items are approaching or past their service milestones. Address these before purchase or negotiate the cost into the sale price.
No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~84,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
MONITORCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Timing Chain Tensioner service before 120,000 mi
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
DUE SOONCriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 100,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Water Pump service before 100,000 mi
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval

ODI #11731024SERVICE BRAKES

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 45 MPH and exiting the parkway, the brake pedal was depressed but remained depressed to the floorboard. The contact's husband attempted to pump the brake pedal, but the vehicle was unresponsive and failed to slow down as intended. The contact's husband then shifted to neutral(N), and the parking brake was activated until the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the brake booster pump or vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

ODI #11729213SERVICE BRAKES

On Monday 12/22 at around 10:30am, I was driving back from Stanford CA where I have been taking my mom to her radiation therapy appointments. All of a sudden my brakes got super hard (Service Brake Assist appeared) and when pressing the brake pedal it continued to accelerate, I was able to swerve to my right hand side went over a curved side wall and pulled over before almost crashing the car in front of me and scaring my mom that was resting her head on the side seat. Vehicle has OnStar but prior to this it had not given me any alerts that is what caused such concern as it directly affects braking performance and Vehicle safety specially about this happend 8 months after purchase and No recalls are listed for my VIN. I had to call my brother to pick up mom because she has been delicate of health with cancer pain and couldn't wait long for towing truck to arrive since I used my insurance AAA to tow my car. After doing research this is a known malfunction and they are still selling the vehicles with a high price. My car has been in repair for over 3 months and still waiting.

ODI #11728311SERVICE BRAKES

My brakes stopped working while driving on highway I80 West. I had to have AAA tow my car to nearby shop. The mechanic said my vacuum pump needed to be replaced and he sees this happen often with Chevrolets.

ODI #11722202ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

On multiple occasions my vehicle (2019 equinox LT) that I bought just over 30 days ago has falsely activated the forward collision feature and slammed on its own brakes followed by “service ESC” and “service brake assist” with traction control lights and stability control lights illuminating. Dealership has confirmed that 4 computer modules are out of date on programming/updates. This is a critical safety issue and I am unsure why it hasn’t been recalled as I have read multiple instances of this. Unfortunately because it has not it is a hefty repair bill. When this happened the last time before heading into the dealership, there was a vehicle behind me that could’ve rammed into my rear due to the sudden and excessive braking at highway speeds when I was pressing on the gas.

ODI #11720907ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The instrument cluster and driver information center is completely blank, and none of the steering wheel controls are operating. Vehicle starts and runs normally, but no indication of speed, turn signals, headlights, gas level, etc.

Air filter box housing top came off. Loss of power. Found that screws are used instead of a latch system. They had been wrenched down after last oil change and cracked the screw housing which is plastic. Filter housing came loose allowed more air and dirt to come into the housing box. Loss of fuel economy.

ODI #11716995SERVICE BRAKESCRASH3 INJURIES

My wife and I were in our car driving on [XXX] on [XXX] at about 4:30 in the afternoon. I was about three car lengths behind the car in front of me and I was doing 30-32 miles per hour. The brake lights in front of me went to red and I immediately stepped on my brakes but my car would not stop nor slow down causing me to hit the person in front of me. It was a matter of seconds passing but when I hit the back of that car in front of me I had both feet on the brake pedal. My car would not stop. My wife was injured, the young lady that I hit hurt her leg and the back end of her car was destroyed. Our car was totaled. The vehicle is now in possession of AAA auto insurance where I was told the brakes would be looked in to. I will be placing a call to the General Motors customer service to lodge a complaint. There were no warning signs of any type prior to this accident. This car is a 2019 model with only 30,200 miles on it. ODI #11716345FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

This issue presents a serious safety concern. During the initial occurrence, the vehicle was unable to sustain highway speeds for extended periods (approximately 10 minutes or more). When coming to a stop, the vehicle would shake, rev unexpectedly, lose power, and shut off completely. During these events, the vehicle would not accelerate, creating a hazardous situation, especially in traffic. The condition has since worsened. The same symptoms now occur upon starting the vehicle and during the warm-up period, increasing the risk of sudden engine shutdown without warning. Additionally, a distinct “gulping” sound is coming from the rear of the vehicle, raising concern that the fuel system may be compromised. No diagnostic or pending fault codes are present, and the local dealership has been unable to identify the cause. The vehicle has fewer than 100,000 miles. Due to the unpredictable loss of power and engine shutdown, this issue poses an immediate safety risk to the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists.

ODI #11716010ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

A "Reduced Engine Power" warning in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox LT usually indicates the car has entered "limp mode" to protect the engine, most commonly caused by a dirty/faulty throttle body, loose Charge Air Cooler (CAC) tube, or sensor issues (MAF/TPS). Common codes include P0299 (turbo underboost). When this occurs, I cannot utilize my remote starter. I purchased an Innova OBD2 Code Reader, connected it to the vehicle and this code P0299 populated. There has been a few times that the engine light would go off, then I was able to use the remote starter to start the engine.

ODI #11716011SEATS

My 2019 Chevy Equinox, LT model has experienced issues where the seat will no longer recline. Seat that raises but won't recline is likely caused by a faulty seat control switch, a jammed recline actuator/gear, or a broken wire, rather than a blown fuse.

ODI #11714976ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 80 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate above 35 MPH. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the turbocharger had failed. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

ODI #11711379AIR BAGSCRASH2 INJURIES

The contact's boyfriend owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH and decelerating to 50 MPH to switch lanes, the vehicle drove over an icy road surface and spun. The contact attempted to turn the wheel and depressed the brake pedal; however, the vehicle crashed into the left guard rail, and the vehicle then crashed into the right guard rail and came to an abrupt stop. The contact stated that the vehicle sustained significant front-end damage. The air bags failed to deploy. Several warning lights were illuminated after the crash. The vehicle owner was occupying the front passenger's seat during the incident. A police report was filed. The tow truck driver transported both passengers of the vehicle to a gas station. Both the contact and her boyfriend were picked up from the gas station and were dropped to the residence by the brother of the vehicle owner. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The contact later had headaches, body soreness, and stiffness. The contact went to the Emergency room and was informed that she had sustained a sprained left rib, whiplash, and a concussion. The contact's boyfriend sustained a sore pinky. The contact stated that the insurance company was currently assessing the vehicle damage. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 99,500.

Ever since we’ve had the 2019 Chevrolet equinox which was purchased in 2019 from Capital Chevrolet in Montgomery, Alabama, the seats and the side mirrors both will not stay programmed. The dealership kept telling us there was nothing wrong and kept telling us how to program the seats and the side mirrors, per key fob. This was done over and over and still did not work. every time the vehicle is cut off and when the vehicle is re-entered we have to reset the side mirrors and seats every single time. The vehicle is no longer under warranty, but we were wondering if there would be any way to have it fixed free of charge. Or if you have any idea on what we can do to make the settings work properly. Please advise. I have listed below my email address, my cell phone, and my home number. Repaired a friend's vehicle that had a total brake failure. Vehicle only has 50k miles and no brake repair history. Blew all of the brake fluid out of the stainless braided line coming from master cylinder rear brake channel to abs module. Found the line coming from the front channel to master cylinder also starting to fray and come apart as well. Did not blow out yet. No evidence of brake lines rubbing on any components or that anything has been apart or touched before. Line looks to have failed from the inside out.

Symptoms started, changing gears while driving, delayed start at lights on a slant, stalled acceleration on interstate from slowspeed ——-took it in and they said the accumulator is bad and has likely messed up the transmission. They recommended a new transmission for $7000+. Researched and found many 2019s had been recalled for this issue, in 2022, but this one was not. I am wondering why it was not, because now I have a bad transmission at 150,000 miles. Why was this vin not recalled in 2022.

The contact owned a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, when the vehicle in front stopped suddenly, the contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The vehicle slowed down; however, it did not stop. The contact depressed the brake pedal twice, and the vehicle failed to respond and rear-ended the vehicle in front, where it came to a stop. The contact was unsure whether there was a warning light illuminated. All the air bags were deployed. A police report was filed. The contact sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an unknown location. The insurance company was notified, and the vehicle was declared a total loss. The contact related the failure to  NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V704000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). However, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

In FMVSS 138, it says that the tire pressure monitoring system will warn drivers of under inflated tires. My TPMS system failed on my MY19 Chevrolet Equinox around 49,000 miles and no longer warns me of underinflated tires for all four tires. To fix it I would have to pay out of pocket costs starting at $732, per the dealership, on a safety critical system that should not fail at 6 years/49,000 miles. There is no recall issued after a check of my VIN. Since 1974, the OEM has had a responsibility to provide a free remedy for safety defects and noncompliance. In 2015, the free remedy was changed from 10 years to 15 years by the FAST Act.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the camshaft, resulting in damage to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 72,000.

The contact completed the work himself. The contact recently took the vehicle the vehicle in for service at a dealer and was informed that the rear brakes and calipers would need to be replaced soon. The contact stated that the pads and rotors had been replaced approximately one year ago, and the vehicle was not driven daily. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V576000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Took to a Repair Shop next day to have the Driver’s Seat fixed. I paid for a Diagnostic & was told that the seat could not be repaired because GMC was no longer manufacturing the seat motor needed. The shop spoke to GMC & a Dealership. I called GMC the next day to complain & verify because car was only 2019 - parts are to be manufactured & made available for minimum of 10yrs! Over next 3 -6 months I spoke to numerous Customer Service employees & Supervisors. I was referred to a Certified Chevrolet Dealer, Dave Gil Chevrolet. I had to use a Large Wedge Pillow & Bed Pillow since the seat was flat back. My car was UNSAFE, difficult to drive & caused concern on whether the seat belts & Air Bags would work properly in the event of an accident or collision. The certified Dealership said that of the 3 motors in the seat, they could get the front one in 2weeks to 3months but not the motor for the rest of the seat. 2 nights ago, my engine light came on. I purchased a code reader today so see what may be wrong, and code P0299, popped up. I’ve reviewed and saw there’s no known recall on the issue but there’s a known Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). In a Facebook group I saw, it says that some people have replaced and code P0299 is still populating. I’m buying this vehicle and I have barely had 2 years now and wanted it to last.

Vehicle experienced derating. Check engine light on. Called mobile repair service. 20 year mechanic. Replaced Pedal Sensor. Fail. Second visit replaced Throttle Body. Fail. He advised better to take it to a reputable shop. Did. Shop worked on it for 2 months and ended up replacing ECM. I finally had the unit towed to an Electrical Specialist in Longmont Colorado. They replaced Wiring loom between pedal sensor and car worked again. Drove car to Kansas and after about 300 miles, loud boom and messages on display. ECM engaged electric emergency brake hard at 79 MPH. WAS on cruise. At 20 mph car stopped messaging, and resumed normal operation. Pulled over, checked car. 50 miles from nearest city. cautiously drove about 20mph, then 30, then more until up to speed limit again. Worked fine 140 miles (needed a population center to get car fixed)) and it happened again. Limped car a few miles to repair in Salina, Kansas. ECM erased all miles, messages, etc. They could find nothing. my research showed the 2025 Equinox EV recall (We had replaced ECM and reprogrammed). I went to get car and risked driving, but without cruise. Warnings would come up, but car ran. No more emergency stops, but plenty of warnings. $3K in repairs and still problem. I believe current problem is electrical that Equinox is known for. The ECM/Reprogramming problem that activated the Brake is the issue here and previously reported by many. Extremely dangerous! Car has 50K miles. Was flawless driver until now. Note: Unit was Rebuilt Salvage. I bought at 1460 miles. Hit right rear, Replaced right rear sheet metal, Rear driveline on right side (Genuine GM parts), Replaced Hatch door. Inspected by state of Michigan. Reputable Rebuilder. Zero bad reviews. Vehicle Information: 2019 Chevrolet Equinox VIN: [XXX] Mileage: [Insert your current mileage] Engine: 1.5L Turbo ⸻ Complaint Summary: Sudden and complete loss of brake assist while driving. Brake pedal became extremely hard to press, making it difficult to stop the vehicle safely. A warning message appeared on the dashboard stating “Brake Assist”. This happened without warning and made braking unpredictable and dangerous. If I had been driving downhill or in the mountains, I could have easily lost control or crashed. I was lucky to be on a relatively flat road when it happened. I inspected the vacuum hose and brake fluid level — both were normal. After researching, I discovered this is a known issue in 2019 Equinox models with the 1.5L turbo engine, related to vacuum pump failure or loss of vacuum supply to the brake booster. There are service bulletins and limited coverage programs (N192268490 and N182202780), but my VIN does not show an open recall. I believe this is a serious safety defect that could affect many vehicles not yet covered by the recall or service campaigns. GM needs to expand the recall and properly warn drivers before someone gets killed. Please investigate this problem and hold GM accountable for fixing this safety-critical issue. I was following my usual routine with my young child. I unlocked the vehicle, secured him in his car seat, then placed my bag (containing the key fob) inside the vehicle. I then closed the door and walked to the driver’s side to enter the car—as I do daily. However, when I reached for the door, every door was locked—including the trunk—and the vehicle would not respond to any button pressing, handle pulling, or proximity unlocking. My child was locked inside the car on a 92-degree day with no way for me to gain access. I immediately called emergency services. Both police and fire arrived quickly, but due to the design of the locking system and the placement of the lock buttons, they were unable to use their unlocking tools. Ultimately, they had no choice but to shatter a window to rescue my child, who had been trapped for 25 minutes in extreme heat. This malfunction could have led to serious injury or worse. I’m extremely shaken and concerned that this happened at all—especially considering I had the key fob in the vehicle and never manually locked the doors.

After towing it to Miller and Son Chevrolet (724-378-0542)we were told it was a timing chain issue and once they opened things up I was told the engine is ruined. The car only had 71,000 miles on it(I purchased it last year) We spoke to multiple mechanics who stated this was a common problem for this car and if the engine had failed while driving it could have caused a fire/accident. On Sunday, [XXX] (a very hot day in Michigan. My vehicle registered 100 degrees) I was driving on [XXX] about 70-73 mph when I got an alert that said (to the best of my recollection) TOO HOT - IDLE IMMEDIATELY! and there was a continuous high pitch beeping which I only heard after turning off the radio. I continued at highway speed for a good 2-3 miles to the next exit afraid at any minute my car would start smoking. I exited and had to stop at a red light before turning left into a Kroger plaza with a fuel station. When the light turned green I accelerated and a grinding sound came from my car. I pulled into the plaza and turned the car off but had to turn it back on in about a minute as it was too hot to sit in car without air conditioning. It started and idled just fine. I googled roadside service and got a nice fellow (on a SUNDAY!) and he arrived in about 40 minutes. He towed me 40 miles away to a recommended auto shop that on Monday told me it was my transmission cooler that was defective and that I needed a transmission shop for a new transmission. It was then towed another 20 minutes away where it stayed for 9 days. Cost: $6564.48 plus $150 for paying with a credit card so totaled $6714.48. My drive train warranty was only good to 60,000 miles/5 years and I have 76,000 miles on my car at the time. Was told the transmission cooler was defective so I asked to have the cooler part and I have it in my garage. I spent over $1000 at the dealership in the months of Feb/March/April 2025 as my car hit the 70,000 mile mark so I had them do all work required by the car manual. The transmission cooler is apparently not a part they check. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

To Whom It May Concern, I'm writing to formally report a critical failure of the Auto Start-Stop system in my 2019 Chevy Equinox that occurred today, resulting in a hazardous situation during rush hour traffic. While stopped in the northbound left turn lane of Route 202 at the intersection with Baltimore Pike, the vehicle’s Auto Start-Stop feature engaged as expected. However, upon releasing the brake to proceed, the engine failed to restart, and the vehicle remained completely inoperative — engine off, no power, and unresponsive to ignition attempts. This failure caused the vehicle to become stranded in a live intersection during heavy traffic, posing a serious safety risk not only to myself but also to other motorists. A Pennsylvania State Police officer arrived on the scene and assisted by pushing the vehicle across three active lanes of traffic while in neutral, performing a battery jump with a brand new battery of five months, and escorting me home to ensure I was safe. This situation was both dangerous and unacceptable, especially considering that the failure stemmed from a system designed for emissions/fuel efficiency, not safety. The Auto Start-Stop feature in this vehicle clearly introduces critical failure points without adequate redundancy or reliability, particularly in real-world driving conditions. Additionally, I contacted my local Chevrolet dealership and spoke directly with a technician in the service department. He confirmed that they have had multiple customers reporting similar failures with the Auto Start-Stop system. According to him, this is not an isolated incident, and in several cases, it has placed drivers in equal danger. I am formally requesting: An investigation into this incident, Information on any existing Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) or recalls related to this failure, A full inspection of the vehicle at GM’s expense, And a report on what steps GM is taking to prevent similar failures from putting other drivers in harm’s way.

I have done research and found that others have had the same thing occur with the warning for brake system and then weeks later the brakes do not work, which is due to the pump providing pressure for the brake boost system.

Brakes locked up after turning off of an exit leading to an intersection and incident that could have killed myself and those around me. AAA towed my car to their garage and said it fits a safety recall according to the year make and model and I needed to take it to Chevy because the Brake Vacuum Pump has disintegrated despite my brakes, rotors, brake pads, fluids, etc all in brand new and phenomenal shape as well as a well maintenance’d vehicle which is proof this is a manufacturer issue, not my doing, nor is it “wear and tear”. The vehicle also smelled like fire which is another reason management at AAA and other local garages feel this is a safety issue beyond what they feel comfortable with. Chevy said that although they fixed many of my make and model for this same very DANGEROUS issue, nothing can be done because it doesn’t fit the vin. AAA advised me to reach out again explaining this is a danger on the road and needs fixed properly. Other garages will not feel comfortable fixing this issue knowing this recall by GM lists public litigation’s totaling millions of dollars worth of lawsuits for the SAME EXACT problem. I would appreciate urgent assistance on getting this extremely dangerous recall taken care of.

I was traveling at expressway speeds (70 mph) when traffic in front of me hit the brakes quickly to avoid an object in the road. At this time, I hit my brakes relatively hard and fast in what I would describe as a panic brake. I avoided incident here. About a mile further up the road, traffic in front of me hit the brakes once again. At this time, I also hit my brakes, but I could not. My brake pedal was hard as a rock, and it would push down only about 2 or 3 inches with little to no effect. I was afraid I might break the pedal arm. I was able to maintain my lane until about 40 mph at which time I was forced to hit the shoulder to avoid colliding with the cars in front of me which were now stopped. I pressed the brake pedal hard and coasted along the shoulder of the expressway for about 40 or 50 yards, rolling past the stopped traffic. A few minutes after my car came to a complete stop, the information panel on my dashboard read "service brake assist". My car was towed to a GM dealership local to where I came to a stop. The documentation from the dealership, as well as what I was verbally told, indicates that there was an internal failure of the vacuum pump. According to the service manager, there was nothing I could have done to prevent this. Obviously, I was extremely lucky. If this would have happened in two-lane city traffic, or approaching a stop light I would have been forced to veer into oncoming traffic or simply barrel into those in front of me. I know this, because for the last month, as I'm driving, I constantly analyze what would happen if my brakes were to go out like that at various points along my drive. Often times, my only option would be to brace for a major accident or land my car in the front yard of a business. This catastrophic failure could have easily killed me, and/or other drivers on the road. Other people will not be so lucky, and I know this. For that reason, it's time for NHTSA to finally take action on this matter.

Also, in their experience they have never seen someone able to drive their car with this issue. It typically locks up the engine by sending broken pieces inside and blows it. Our 2019 Chevrolet Equinox had a sudden Brake Vacuum Pump failure causing loss of braking power by about 80%. The only reason we did not have an accident is it was early morning and there was no traffic when we exited the highway. I was not happy to realize that GM has no recall on this. They apparently knew this was a problem and in more recent years have changed the design. The other flaw is this pump is attached to the wall of the engine and shrapnel can fall into the engine compartment and that debris could lead to total engine failure if it travels to the combustion area. This is not only dangerous but financially ruining.

I have seen a couple of others post this exact issue about their 2018-and-newer Equinoxes, on Equinox forums/sites, also with no satisfaction from their dealers. This could be especially dangerous on wet/slick roads. Prior to January 2024 we routinely used these seat belts to fasten two car seats in the back seat so I know that they were in good working condition prior to that time. My 2019 Chevy Equinox with 30,000 miles will not start due to a "Shift to Park" error. This is a common issue with other models of Chevrolet in that same time frame 2017 - 2019 Malibu, Traverse, and Volt. The dealer wants to charge over $1500.00 for an issue that appears to be related to a failing sensor. The vehicle will turn on (power) but will not start. Once power is on, you can not shut off the power as it believes that the vehicle is in gear. This causes the battery to drain. This should be a recall by GM as this is a common issue that the manufacture chooses to ignore.

This seems like a dangerous and potentially very expensive design flaw Pieces in picture had to be removed from crankcase..

I tried to restart the vehicle this time the vehicle continued to shake and sputter but it did not move when I placed the gear in Drive. I had to be pushed put of the road by the Police and then towed to the dealer. He was unable to stop. Thankfully no one was in front of him or behind him he was able to have the vehicle towed back to the service bay. I was told that the break vacuum pump disintegrated and went into the engine cam shaft. That caused the engine to completely shut down. I believe this is a safety issue as no sensor or engine codes ever displayed and the dealership took 2weeks to diagnose what was wrong because they were not getting any codes displayed on their diagnostic equipment. There was no way for me to know this break vacuum pump was failing to be able to proactively replace it to prevent this serious malfunction from occurring. The light turned green and my truck didn’t want to go forward. Once it started to pull off it went slow and then gain a little more speed. This could’ve caused an accident. The people from the opposite side of rode would’ve hit and probably killed my son and I. This is not okay and needs to be checked on all vehicles because that’s a very late warning sign and can cause a huge issue. I’m reaching out to Chevrolet tomorrow morning since today is Sunday.

Was driving in a busy area of Erie, PA, when approaching a traffic signal driving near 45 mph before the speed limit dropped. Attempted to apply brakes as traffic was backed up at the light, but couldn't depress the brakes at all. The service brake assist light came on at that moment. Was fortunate that light turned green a few seconds later so traffic cleared and I was able to make a wide high speed right turn at the intersection before pulling into a nearby empty business parking lot and coasting to a start without colliding with anything. It was a miracle. The car was towed back to a Chevy dealership (Ben Bissett) in Mercer, PA, where they identified a failed brake vacuum pump, which also caused other damage when it failed. We have since uncovered dozens of reports of similar incidents in these vehicles nationwide and believe this is something you should look into as this is a serious safety issue that could lead to injury or death. Thank you so much for your time on this matter.

Something is wrong with the brake assist system. The car was serviced literally towards the end of may and the brake assist service light keeps turning on. It is now causing the vehicle to have a check engine light that comes and goes as it pleases and the car now thinks that it is a bucking bronco at times with how hard it runs at times now. We have spoken and seen now multiple others complaining about the fueling system which does not alloe you to fill the gas tank up all the way. The tank holds 14.9 gallons and if the car is empty and on its last drop the car will only allow 12 gallons at best and that takes nearly 20 minutes of fighting with the car at the pump. The electrical in the vehicle is unstable. Multiple times while driving the radio and power to the car just turn off. I have also seen the recalls for the brake problems but when I enter my VIN it comes back all clear. We had a 2017 Chevy Malibu with multiple issues and spoke to Chevrolet about the issues and it wasn't until we traded it in that we started to receive the recall notices. This vehicle has some of the same problems and we have a toddler that we need to keep safe.

I own a 2019 Chevy Equinox which has developed an issue with the steering, the same as occurred with earlier models. When driving straight for brief periods of time, the steering resists turning either direction to follow the road changes. The wheel is stiff and requires additional effort to adjust. I only have about 30K miles on my car. This is very uncomfortable and lacks for any feeling of security. This could cause a skid on icy and snowy roads that we have now. I see there is no recall for this but I am very concerned for my wife driving the car. This is now a regular occurrence and at any speed.

The vehicle is operating on reduced power and shuts of almost immediately. After plugging a scan tool in and reading the codes, it said the crankshaft timing was over advanced and the sensor needed to be changed. I've changed all four sensors (both crank and cam sensors). The engine shows no codes, but when I crank it, it immediately reduces power, shuts off, then shows the same codes. After trying a few times, it says the ECM, MAP sensor, and heat sensors are bad. When I disconnect, then reconnect the battery, it only shows the crank sensor code. The check engine light goes off, but comes on again right before the engine shuts off each time. As a result, the vehicle has been sitting since 10/4/22 due to it shutting off suddenly in traffic. I've had to change the battery twice during this time due to the battery completely dying and a jump start doesn't work.

Gas gauge will not go all the way to full. It stops just over 3/4 of a tank, no matter how much fuel you put in the tank. There is no way to accurately determine how much fuel is in the vehicle at any point and time. This is a safety hazard because we could be stranded on the side of the road, not knowing the vehicle would run out of fuel. Also, occasionally when you crank the vehicle, you get a strong odor of fuel in the cabin, when running the A/C. There is nothing specific that is being done differently, and it does not happen every time. We bought this vehicle on 9/18/22 with 27,602 miles on it and as of today, it has 28,594 miles on it. After purchasing it, we noticed the fuel gauge issue and I researched it online, finding out it is a common issue and GM claims to have no idea how to fix it.

The brake system failed and my car is now in a salvage lot. I believe the car will remain there only until I submit the car title. While driving in heavy traffic I was unable to make a sudden stop to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I had enough time to stop, but the brakes failed to engage properly. The brakes were very stiff and vibrated or pulsated as I applied the brakes and my car wouldn't stop prior to colliding with the car in front of me. My safety and the occupants in the other car were at risk. The life of a pedestrian, if involved, could have resulted in death. Luckily, there were no serious injuries and exterior damage appeared minimal but my car suffered serious internal damage. I was not able to confirm the problem with the dealership. My phone calls were not returned. I also contacted Chevrolet and now waiting for a follow-up call. The car was only inspected by the insurance appraiser, who deemed my car a total loss because the car frame was cracked on both sides, air condenser damage, exterior damage plus more. The insurance co. had my car towed to a holding parking lot for salvage. My greatest concern is if this had been a situation where I was unable to stop suddenly to avoid hitting a pedestrian and killed someone! The appraiser suspected the air bag sensor might have failed since the impact was hard enough to crack the car frame. Seven days prior to the accident I had rear brakes and roters replaced at a Chevrolet dealership. They also looked into a warning message on my dash - Service brake assist system. I was told nothing was wrong with that.

I press the emergency brake and that did nothing. I had to glide through traffic into a gas station parking lot almost slamming into a gas pump. The sewer dip allowed the vehicle to slow up and come to halt blocking the traffic. This happened after midnight so I took it to the dealership in which i purchased. No lights appeared on the dash. They advised me the brake booster pressure sensor, brake booster vacuum hose and then after doing so they said non of it fixed the issue, I would need a new brake booster. All totaling over $2000 for a vehicle I had less than 6 months. Shortly after the month following July or August, stalled and the push to start button wouldn’t activate. I waited a few moments and then it turned on, with the engine light lit. I took it directly to dealerships service department and they had it a month, they eventually said it was the Oxygen Sensor and it needed to be replaced. I reached out to GM about all of the issues. They stated there were recalls but not for my VIN. CRAZY Now less than a month, a slight fender bender, another vehicle crossed into my lane, the sensors did not initiate, I had to swerve to dodge from causing any major damage and avoid on coming traffic. My vehicle sustained minor scratches on the front passenger side. Initially 30 minutes after it was running fine. Then the light sensors on the mirrors both sides remained on. No engine lights, no warnings. I’m traveling down the 5 lane Highway @75mph and the vehicle just shuts completely off. I had to get across traffic and avoid causing an accident. Since I was driving at a safe distance, I managed to barely avoid colliding with the rear of the car making the turn, however, that miss was extremely narrow. My vehicle barely slowed down when the brakes were applied which, had I been on the interstate or traveling at a higher rate of speed, would have more than likely resulted in a collision. This DEFINITELY puts myself, my wife, and our 2 children's safety at risk. Once I successfully parked the vehicle, a "Service Brake Assist" warning messaged appeared for the 1st time. I began researching/attempting to diagnose the issue. During this time I came across several articles detailing a recall issued by GM describing the exact same issue with the brake booster/pump, ironically however, it only covered vehicle produced through 2018. I then contacted GM customer service to alert the manufacturer and see how they would rectify the situation. I was informed that my vehicle had no open recalls and was out of warranty & there was nothing they could do for me.(handwritten call log can be provided upon request) When I contacted the dealership, they informed me they were unable to see the vehicle until the 1st week in Dec. I was left to take it to my local mechanic who, upon his diagnosis, informed me that it was the vacuum pump that had failed. As previously stated, there were no warnings prior to the failure. The "Service Brake Assist" appeared AFTER I managed to safely get my vehicle to a parking spot.

The car was purchased February of 2019. The car has been stalling, car has shut completely down, and the car decrease speed sometimes while on the expressway which can be life-threatening. Not to mention that the radio freezes and the windows also gets stuck sometimes. It was reported to the car lot where the car was purchased as well as GM. the car was taken into Homewood Chevrolet where they stated that it was only a spark plug which is not true. I know that the car is having intermittent problems. They were suppose to an extensive check and I am positive that it was NOT done. There is an electrical and transit engine related issue that is not being addressed

While exiting the highway I went to put on my brakes and there were no power brakes. It pedal was stiff and I had to push extremely hard to stop and it took a long time to do so. The brake assist light come on as well. I had no prior warning, noise or any reason to believe that my brakes wouldn’t work. We checked the pads, rotors and brake lines and they were all fine so that’s not the issue. It could have been catastrophic if I had been on the highway still when this happened.

While driving on the freeway, the brakes became suddenly stiff and I was unable to stop the vehicle immediately for oncoming traffic. I had to steer away from the road onto the emergency lane and apply the brakes really hard to stop the car. There were no warning messages of any sorts and while trying to stop and start the car several times, then the service brake assist warning with the check engine light came up. I have to take the vehicle for inspection to the checy dealer to know more detailed cause of the issue. I had my wife, a 4 year old and a 4 month old in the car when this happened.

We believe that there is a serious issue with the HVAC of this vehicle. My wife actually noticed it soon after buying the vehicle. I wasn't quite sure what it was. Anyway, on August 15, 2021 we drove to visit family and the strong odor of freon or something got so bad that my eyes were burning and began to cough. I took the vehicle to my local dealer and explained the problem. I left the vehicle and the service person called me to say that there was nothing wrong. They did a diagnostic of the vehicle and it came back fine. He mentioned that they is a "Service Bulletin" on 2019 Chevrolet Equinox that stated owners may complain of a strong chemical smell inside the vehicle. He stated that GM said that there is no fix for the problem. This is unacceptable since my wife has allergies and asthma. If this chemical smell is harmful, they should recall all the vehicles affected and correct the problem. It seemed to me that GM's attitude was "tough, live with it". There needs to be further investigation into this by our government and should force GM to correct this problem. I am waiting to hear more from the dealership regarding this problem today. I don't expect to hear anything different than what they told me yesterday, (August 17).

We noticed a reddish liquid on our garage floor. As the car is under warranty, we took it to the dealer who said it was a leak at the drivers side axel seal; they kept the car for one day, said it was fixed, and called me to come pick up the car. The very next day I noticed leak was worse, and so I reported that to the dealer (see uploaded photo). The dealer told me that they would connect with "tech assist" (whatever that means) and get back to me. I'm concerned that if the leak gets even greater while on the road it could be a safety problem.

I was out driving on a normal errand when my car suddenly seemed to lose all ability to accelerate. When I pressed on the accelerator nothing happened and I could only advance in the car at less than 5 MPH. Fortunately I was just leaving my neighborhood and on a residential street where the speed limit was only 35 MPH anyways, but I shudder to think about what could have happened if I lost the ability to accelerate when I was on a highway or interstate, or even making a turn in front of oncoming traffic on a normal road. As any driver knows, you estimate your ability to safely turn in front of oncoming traffic based on your car's accelerator working. If I had made that judgment, attempted to turn, and not been able to accelerate and instead been left in the middle of oncoming traffic, I could have been hit and seriously injured or worse. There were no warning lights or anything that appeared prior to the incident. After losing the ability to accelerate, I received an email from Chevrolet within 10 minutes stating "An issue with the emissions system in your 2019 Chevrolet Equinox has been detected. Please service your vehicle within 7 days. Please disregard this message if your vehicle is already in for service. Inaccurate notifications can be generated during service." My car ended up being towed to the dealer for service where they confirmed and reproduced the problem. They said something about the emissions system valve(s) had to be replaced, and that this was a relatively common problem they had seen in other Chevrolet Equinoxes too, but were not aware of any recall being issued yet.

NO ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN CAUSED AS OF YET, BUT MANY NEAR MISSES. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE SEPTEMBER. I MADE CHEVROLET AWARE OF THE ISSUE THROUGH A REPAIR ATTEMPT. IT HAS BEEN SERVICED THREE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH THE BBB. CHEVROLET HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM, REPLACED THE VEHICLE, OR ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THROUGH EXTENSIVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE GENERAL MOTORS BUSINESS RESOURCE CENTER THAT IS DEALING WITH MY BBB CASE THAT MY LIFE IS IN DANGER EVERY TIME I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AND THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE. REGARDLESS OF MY THREE REPAIR ATTEMPTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE, NOBODY AT GM CARES ABOUT MY SAFETY. WHEN I BRING IT UP, I HAVE BEEN TOLD 'DON'T DRIVE IT IF YOU DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT' AS IF I CAN SIMPLY WALK TO WORK, APPOINTMENTS, ETC. GENERAL MOTORS DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY AND SAFETY CONCERNS OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. IT HAS BEEN 129 DAYS SINCE I INITIALLY BROUGHT UP THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND GENERAL MOTORS IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN USE DAILY, STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. DOCUMENTATION OF REPAIR ATTEMPTS AND BBB PAPERWORK AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. *JS

PURCHASED NEW CAR ON SEPTEMBER 7 2019. STARTED HAVING CAR ISSUES ON 9/25/2019 TOOK CAR IN ON 9/27/2019. CAR WAS MAKING LOUD SCREECHING NOISES, BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GET HARD. WAS HARD TO BREAK. WHEN REVERSING SCREECHING NOISE WOULD GET LOUDER AND LOUDER. WAS TOLD BY A CHEVROLET TECHNICIAN CAR WAS FINE IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS NEW. TOOK CAR IN ONCE AGAIN ON 12/26/2019 VEHICLE WOULD RANDOMLY NOT TURN ON, BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GET HARD, CAR WOULD SCREECH. CAME TO THE POINT WERE I WAS SCARED TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE GROCERY STORE BECAUSE I WAS UNSURE ON WHETHER THE CAR WOULD RANDOMLY NOT START. INFORM CHEVROLET OF EVERETT AND WAS TOLD IT WAS 3 BOLTS, AND WAS GIVEN THE CAR BACK. TOOK CAR TO CALIFORNIA AFTER THE DEALER TOLD ME CAR WAS COMPLETELY SAFE. 1/14/2020 CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT TURN ON. CALLED CHEVROLET THEY SAID THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY IT TURNS OFF AND WHY IT WON'T TURN ON. CALLED GM MOTORS THEY SAID THEY ARE UNABLE TO HELP BUT I CAN START A CASE IN WHICH I DID. WENT TO CHEVROLET ON 1/24/2020 THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO IDEA ON WHY THE VEHICLE IS HAVING STARTING PROBLEMS, TRIED MAKING ME TAKE THE VEHICLE HOME KNOWING IT IS UNSAFE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T FIX IT. CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN SHOP NOW FOR 14 DAYS AND NO ONE HAS INFORMATION ON HOW TO HELP ME, NOR HAS ANYONE CONTACTED ME, I HAVE CALLING RECORDS ON HOW MANY CALLS I'VE MADE TO GM MOTORS TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME BUT THEY ALWAYS STATE NO ONE IS AVAILABLE TO HELP ME. GM MOTORS ALSO DID 'ADVICE'ME TO NOT SEEK ANY LEGAL HELP IF I WANTED TO BE HELPED.

OUR COLLEGE AGE DAUGHTER HAD A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM RECENTLY INVOLVING HER BRAND NEW 2019 CHEVY EQUINOX LOSING POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON THE EXPRESSWAY! SHE CALLED ME CRYING AND FRANTIC SAYING THAT A TRACTOR-TRAILER WAS RIGHT BEHIND HER WHEN THIS HAPPENED. SHE MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO AN EXIT AND PARK IN A NEARBY PLAZA PARKING LOT. WHEN I GOT THERE AND DROVE THE CAR THE TACH WAS UP OVER 2,000 RPM'S BUT THE CAR WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 15 MPH! I DECIDED IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE SO WE HAD IT FLATBEDDED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE LEASED THE VEHICLE. THERE AN EXPERIENCED TECH OPENED THE HOOD AND SHOWED US EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HE SAID THE HOSE FROM THE TURBO-CHARGER HAD COME LOOSE! AND THAT WITHOUT THAT HOOKED UP TO THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE LOST ABOUT 80% OF ITS POWER! WE WERE REALLY UPSET THAT THIS HAPPENED ON A BRAND NEW EQUINOX WITH ONLY 500 MILES ON IT! OUR DAUGHTER COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!

WITHIN THE SECOND WEEK OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY I HEARD A POPPING NOISE AND I THEN THE A MESSAGE CAME A CROSS THE SCREEN SAYING LISING POWER FROM THE ENGINE! I WAS SO SCARED ON THE FREEWAY ! I HAVE A NEW CAR, WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM! THE CAR REDUCED SPEED! I TOOK IT TO GEORGE MATICK CHEVROLET . MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 2 DAYS AND THEY DISCOVERED IT WAS THE AIR TUBE HAD CAME OFF! MY CAR WAS RETURNED BACK TO ME AFTER SERVICE. 2 WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING TO INDIANAPOLIS THE TUBE POPPED 9FF AGAIN! I CALLED ON STAR THEY NAVIGATED ME TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER CONNECTED THE TUBE BACK AND TOLD ME IT WAS OKAY TO DRIVE , AND SHOWED ME HOW TO RECONNECT THE TUBE IF IT CAME OFF AGAIN! THIS WAS SO SCARY TO BE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH A NEW CAR AND THINGS LIKE THIS IS HAPPENING! I NO LONGER WANTS THIS VEHICLE! I GET BACK TO MICHIGAN TAKES IT TO THE DEALERSHIP NOW THEY HAVE TO ORDER THE PART IT WILL TAKE A COUPLE OF DAYS TO GET THE PART IN. OK THE CAR IS FIXED AGAIN! 3 WEEKS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER A NEW TUBE WAS PLACED ON THE CAR 6/ 26 /19, THE CAR IS BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP SAME PROBLEM PLUS NOW THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE THROTTLE! I FEEL LIKE I BOUGHT A NIGHTMARE!😡😭

SAME AS OTHERS THE TURNBO INTAKE TUBE CAME OFF. THEY TRIED TO REPAIR IT WITH THE CLIP KIT AND THAT DID NOT WORK. MY CAR AS BEEN AT THE DEALER SINCE 6/1 WAITING FOR A CHARGE INTAKE TUBE. NO ETA ON STATUS AS ITS BACK ORDERED.

TRAVELING SOUTH ON 81 IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE, A TRIPLE LANE HIGHWAY. WITH HEAVY MORNING WORK TRAFFIC GOING 70 MPH WITH AN 18-WHEELER PUSHING OUR VEHICLE & A CAR PASSING US ON THE LEFT, OUR 2019 EQUINOX DROPPED TO 40 MPH AND A POWER REDUCTION MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME THE SPEED DROPPED DOWN 30 MPH. IT WAS BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT THE 18-WHEELER MISSED OUR VEHICLE AND WE WERE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY HUSBAND PUT THE ENGINE IN PARK AND REVVED THE ENGINE CHECKING TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE WOULD TAKE FUEL. THE POWER REDUCTION LIGHT CLEARED OFF THE SCREEN, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. WE SLOWLY TRAVELED TO A GAS/COMFORT AREA (IN WOODSTOCK, VA) AND READ OUR VEHICLE HANDBOOK FOR POSSIBLE REASONS OF POWER REDUCTION---THERE WERE QUITE A FEW, BUT NONE THAT WE COULD RELATE TO. WE STAYED OVER NIGHT AT A MOTEL AND MONDAY (6/3/19) TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. AFTER BEING TOLD THEY COULDN'T WORK ON OUR VEHICLE UNTIL THURSDAY, WE HAD TO CONTINUE OUR TRIP IN A RENTAL UNIT. WE WERE CONTACTED BY THE DEALERSHIP ON THURSDAY (6/6/19) THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICKUP. THE UNIT THREW NO CODES, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID GO OUT AFTER THEIR DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. WE ARRANGED TO PICK UP OUR VEHICLE FRIDAY MORNING AND DROVE IT HOME WITH MUCH TREPIDATION. THE UNIT WAS TAKEN TO OUR LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY HAVE BEEN DRIVING IT TO MAKE THE SAME MECHANICAL DEFECT OCCUR; BUT TO NO AVAIL. TO FACE DEATH ONCE AND SURVIVE, DOES NOT MAKE ONE COMFORTABLE TO DRIVE THE SAME VEHICLE. HAD WE DIED AFTER BEING HIT BY THE 18-WHEELER, THE FAULT WOULD HAVE GONE TO DRIVER'S ERROR AS ONE READS IN MANY ACCIDENTS IN THE NEWS.

TURBO HOSE THAT CONNECTS TO THE THROTTLE BOTTLE POPS OFF UNDER ACCELERATION, AND ENGINE LOSES POWER. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. IT HAPPENED TWO TIMES ON OUR TRIP HOME FROM PURCHASING THE CAR BRAND NEW.

I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM A TRIP IN THE MOUNTAINS AND HEARD A POPPING SOUND FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATION. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR AN EXIT OFF OF THE TOLLWAY WITHIN 3 MILES OF A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD'VE BEEN A REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE IS THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED DURING A STEEP GRADED INCLINE, IT COULD'VE BEEN LIFE-THREATENING. THE VEHICLE WAS CERTAINLY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT UP THE MOUNTAIN AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A REAR END COLLISION RESULTING IN A DEADLY CRASH KNOCKING THE CAR OVER A GUARD RAIL. GOD FORBID IT WOULD'VE BEEN DURING THE WINTER MONTHS WITH SNOW UNLESS TRACTION. THE CAR ONLY HAD 4500 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE REPAIR PART WAS ON INDEFINITE BACKOREDER WITH GM. HE CANNOT GIVE ME A DATE WHEN THE CAR WOULD BE REPAIRED.

ODI #11218865ENGINE

THE TURBO COOLER TUBE POPS OFF WHEN YOU ACCELERATE. THIS CAUSES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO ENGINE REDUCE POWER MODE. VEHICLE MAX SPEED WILL THEN BE SET TO 45 - 55 MILES AN HOUR. I WAS ABLE TO PUSH THE TUBE BACK INTO PLACE, IT RAN FINE FOR ANOTHER 100 MILES THAN POPPED OFF AGAIN. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND TALKED WITH THE SERVICE PERSON AND HE NEW EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. HE SAID THERE IS A CLAMP SERVICE KIT TO FIX. I ASKED HIM IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS HE SAID NO IT DOESN'T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN BUT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE.

ODI #11218262ENGINE

THE DUCT FROM MY TURBO TO THE THROTTLE BODY EXPLODED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. VEHICLE WENT TO "REDUCED POWER MODE". SPEED WAS LIMITED TO 45 MPH. THIS ISSUE IS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER A "KNOWN PROBLEM". SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BY THIS PROBLEM. THANK GOD I WAS ON A LOCAL ROAD NOT A FREEWAY. THE SERVICE DEPT. HAS MY CAR AND SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHEN IT COULD BE FIXED! I BOUGHT THIS LEMON 2 WEEKS AGO AND IT ONLY HAS 340 MILES ON IT. IT IS SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP -- I DON'T HAVE MY NEW CAR. DANGEROUS SITUATION! ALSO IT HAS AN IDIOTIC AUTO STOP FEATURE THAT STOPS THE ENGINE AT EVERY STOP SIGN. THIS CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. WHEN YOU REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE THE ENGINE STARTS AND THE CAR JUMPS FORWARD. ANOTHER HORRIBLE SITUATION.

BOUGHT EQUINOX WITH 9 MILES O IT ON MONDAY 05/27/2019 AND ON FRIDAY 5/31/2019 ON THE WAY HOME FROM GOING TO DINNER, WITH ONLY 213 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. LOOKED UP THE ERROR CODE ON LINE, BECAUSE THE OWNER'S MANUAL IS NOT THAT EASY. CODE DISPLAYED COULD SHUT ENGINE OFF AT ANY TIME TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE. THANK GOD WE WERE A 2 MILES FROM HOME.

AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM PUT ON THE PLATE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE IT TO A SECURE LOCATION SO I COULD GET SOMEONE TO FOLLOW ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THE CAR DID NOT HAVE FULL POWER. WHEN I WENT TO PULL OUT OF THE SECURE LOCATION , I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR STOPPED. I DECIDED TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED, THE CAR HAD ONLY 45 MILES ON IT. I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM SERVICE, THEY REPORTED THAT THEY REMOVED AND INSPECTED THE INTAKE DUCT SEAL AND RETAINING CLIP.INSTALLED DUCT TO THROTTLE BODY AND CHECK DUCT LOCKS INTO PLACE, INTAKE DUCT IS SECURE. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED AGAIN, THE CAR HAS 60 MILES ON IT. I AM WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM THE DEALER. BOTH TIMES THE RATE OF SPEED WAS AROUND 45 - 50 MPH.

THE TURBO COOLER TUBE POPS OFF WHEN YOU ACCELERATE. THIS CAUSES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AND THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO ENGINE REDUCE POWER MODE. VEHICLE MAX SPEED WILL THEN BE SET TO 55 MILES AN HOUR. ENGINE AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT GETS HOT DUE TO NO PROPER COOLING. I WENT TO CHEVY DEALER AND THEY STATED THIS IS STARTING TO BECOME A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NO FIX. CHEVY SNAPPED THE TUBE BACK INTO PLACE, BUT IT POPPED OFF AGAIN. DANGEROUS WHEN ON HIGHWAY AND SPEED IMMEDIATELY REDUCES TO 55 MPH AND ALSO VERY BAD ON OVERHEATING THE ENGINE

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OPEN ROAD CHEVROLET (2675 US-22, UNION, NJ 07083, (908) 686-2800) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING VENTS WERE CHROME AND WERE REFLECTING OFF THE MIRRORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 9-5169987780. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO WRAP THE AIR CONDITIONER VENTS IN A NON-REFLECTIVE MATERIAL. THE VECHICLE'S ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE STOPPED FOR A VERY SHORT TIME ON ROADS IN TRAFFIC. IT CAN BE A MAJOR HIGHWAY, OR INTERSTATE AND EVEN NEIGHBORHOOD ROADS. IT CAN BE HAZARDOUS AS THE VEHICLE TAKES A MINUTE TO START BACK UP AND GET GOING. I HAD NO IDEA THIS FEATURE EVEN EXISTED, BEFORE I EXPERIENCED IT AFTER PURCHASING. I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE TAILGATE/TRUNK LOCKING. I LOCK THE VEHICLE, AND ALL DOORS LOCK EXCEPT THE TRUNK. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE SINCE DEC 31,2018 AND AM VERY SURPRISED TO BE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES SO SOON.

ODI #11174820ENGINE

THE AUTO STOP ENGINE FEATURE HAS NO CONTROL DEVICE TO DISABLE THE FEATURE. AUTO ENGINE STOP CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN RESTARTING FROM THE AUTO STOP CONDITION AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED HESITATION OF THE RESTART CONDITION WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN AT A BUSY INTERESECTION CAUSING MYSELF SLIGHT PANIC WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE TO COMPLETE THE TURN WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC APPROACHING. VERY DANGEROUS! THIS FEATURE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE TURNED OFF BY THE OWNER ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. SAFETY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN FUEL CONSUMPTION.

ODI #11173146FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

UNABLE TO DISABLE AUTO STOP ENGINE FUNCTION. WINSHIELD DEFROSTER USES AC COMPRESSOR TO AID DEFROAT OF WINDSHIELD WHICH NEEDS ENGINE RUNNING TO OPERATE. WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT WINDSHIELD STEAMS UP ON THE INSIDE BECAUSE OF EXCESS MOISTURE IN EVAPORATOR.

ODI #11170986ENGINE

THE ENGINE "AUTO STOP" FEATURE CAN HAVE ENOUGH OF A DELAY TO ALLOW THE ACCELERATOR TO BE PRESSED AS THE ENGINE STARTS CAUSING IT TO LURCH FORWARD RATHER THAN ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY. IT ALSO CAN CAUSE A DELAY WHEN PULLING OUT INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO WAY TO TEMPORARILY OR PERMANENTLY DEFEAT THE SYSTEM ON THIS GM MODEL ACCORDING TO GM SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THOUGH I AM SURE IT IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED FOR CERTAIN OWNER DRIVING STYLES AND TRAFFIC CONDITIONS THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS HAZARD. CAR MAKERS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO EITHER DISABLE THE FEATURE PERMANENTLY BY OWNER REQUEST OR HAVE A METHOD FOR THE OWNER TO BYPASS THE SYSTEM.

ODI #11164934ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

I AM UNABLE TO GAUGE THE TIME NEEDED FOR THE CAR TO RESTART AFTER "AUTOSTOP" SHUTS THE MOTOR AT A HARD STOP. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR ALL DRIVERS AS EVEN WHEN LIFTING MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE AS IT SHOULD IN "DRIVE." INSTEAD, PLACING MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL IS REQUIRED. THIS CAUSES UNEXPECTED DELAYS IN BEGINNING TO DRIVE THAT COULD HAVE SEVERE AND LONG LASTING CONSEQUENCES. I DO NOT AT ALL FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS BOTH DURING CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING, I.E. WHEN SITTING IN TRAFFIC. OTHER MANUFACTURERS HAVE A SWITCH TO DEACTIVATE "AUTOSTOP." CHEVROLET DOES NOT. I BELIEVE A MANDATORY RECALL IS REQUIRED TO REMEDY THIS CLEAR SAFETY OVER SITE.

ODI #11165737ENGINE

THE AUTO STOP IS A HAZARD. WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR DOESN'T GET TO SPEED QUICK ENOUGH.

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 280 total NHTSA complaints filed over 9 years, with the worst year being 2019 (60 complaints, including 1 crash report).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 10/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

The recall (red dashed line) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.

Red dots on the amber line flag 8 years (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
