Owners of the 2023 CHEVROLET Tahoe report engine/powertrain issues more than most other systems. Complaints concentrated in one area often signal a systemic weakness worth a targeted pre-purchase inspection.
Owners of the 2023 CHEVROLET Tahoe report electrical issues more than most other systems. Complaints concentrated in one area often signal a systemic weakness worth a targeted pre-purchase inspection.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.

I am filing this safety complaint regarding the sudden and unexpected transmission failure of my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe at approximately 110,000 miles. My transmission failed without any warning, creating a serious and frightening safety concern. There was no advance indication that I was about to experience a major mechanical failure. A transmission failing unexpectedly creates the potential for an extremely dangerous situation, particularly when traveling at highway speeds, navigating intersections or driving in heavy traffic. I purchased this vehicle brand new and have consistently had it serviced at Bergstrom Chevrolet of Madison. My maintenance history includes approximately 20 dealership visits between January 2023 and July 2026. Despite this extensive service history, the transmission failed less than four years after I purchased the vehicle. I am extremely concerned that such a critical component could fail without warning. An unexpected transmission failure can put the driver, passengers and surrounding motorists at risk, particularly if the vehicle suddenly loses its ability to accelerate or maintain speed. The Chevrolet dealership diagnosed the transmission failure and provided an estimate of approximately $7,500 for replacement. I contacted General Motors to report the failure and request assistance. GM denied my request solely because the vehicle had exceeded its warranty mileage. When I asked whether the decision could be appealed, I was told no appeal was available. My primary concern is the safety implications of this unexpected failure. I believe this incident warrants investigation to determine whether other owners of 2023 Chevrolet Tahoes may be at risk of experiencing similar transmission failures without warning. I am requesting that NHTSA review this incident and determine whether a potential transmission safety defect exists.
My vehicle received a software update which has caused my OnStar (safety) option to malfunction and has stopped working properly. There is an active recall for some vehicles but for some reason my specific year is not listed as one of the years for recall but has the exact issue.
Water pump failed. The part is on back order with an ETA of October 29. Vehicle is currently at the dealership. I received no alerts before failure.
I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with the GM 6.2-liter V8 engine. VIN: [XXX]. At approximately 40,000 miles, the original engine experienced a major failure and was completely replaced by a Chevrolet dealership under warranty. I have now driven fewer than 10,000 miles on the replacement engine and am experiencing a very similar engine-related problem again. The vehicle is currently back at the Chevrolet dealership being inspected and repaired. This is extremely concerning because the original engine failed at only approximately 40,000 miles, and the replacement engine has developed a similar problem after fewer than 10,000 miles. The GM 6.2-liter V8 has been the subject of numerous reported engine problems and complaints, and I believe this repeated failure warrants NHTSA’s attention. I am concerned there may be an underlying or recurring defect affecting these engines that has not been adequately addressed. I am also concerned about the potential safety implications of an engine or valvetrain failure while driving. An unexpected loss of power or significant mechanical failure could create a dangerous situation, particularly at highway speeds or in traffic. I can provide dealership documentation showing the original engine replacement, the mileage at which it occurred, and the current repair visit. This documentation establishes that the vehicle has experienced significant engine-related problems twice within a relatively short period, including a similar problem with the replacement engine after fewer than 10,000 miles. I respectfully request that NHTSA document this complaint and review whether there is a broader pattern of premature or repeated failures involving the GM 6.2-liter V8 used in 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles and whether further investigation or corrective action is warranted. Replacing the original engine did not resolve the issue, as the replacement engine has now developed a similar problem. The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and was unable to restart. The message "Engine Overheating - Stop Driving Immediately" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the engine had failed, and the engine was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone. The failure mileage was 32,295.
We were driving on the highway and the engine started making a ticking noise and AFM light came on. Took the car to the dealership for inspection and they said the lifter had collapsed and it would cost $1000 to tear the engine down to see if the camshaft was damaged. Asked for the estimate to replace camshaft and lifters and they quoted $10,000.
Our Tahoe was included in the recall. The dealership inspected it, found no issue at the time, and told us to switch to a different oil viscosity, which we did. This vehicle has only ever been serviced at a Chevrolet dealership. On August 20th, while driving on the highway, the engine shut off without warning and we had to coast to the shoulder. We attempted to restart it several times, but the engine would not hold an idle. After shutting off all accessories, including the A/C and radio, the vehicle finally started. We brought it back to the dealership for inspection, and once again they could not find any issue. Today, September 14, 2026, we heard loud clanking coming from the engine. We pulled over immediately and had the truck towed to the dealership. At this point, we believe the engine is no longer serviceable and will need to be replaced. We do not believe the change in oil viscosity is an adequate fix for the 2022 to 2024 6.2L engines covered under the GM recall, including the one in our Tahoe. An engine dying without warning at highway speed is a serious safety hazard, and we were fortunate it didn't end in a collision.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated there was a misfire in the engine, with the engine warning light illuminated. The message “Collision Mitigation System Off” was displayed. There was a burning odor coming from the vehicle after the failure. The vehicle started shaking abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the lifter and crankshaft needed to be replaced. The contact purchased a rebuilt engine, and the engine was replaced at another service center. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Hard shudder when driving between 45 to 50 mph and when you decelerate around 12 to 15 mph. Inspected at Lond Lewis Chevrolet stated and now being inspected by Bentley Chevrolet due to Lond Lewis Chevrolet doing absolute nothing. Tahoe has 23,000 miles currently. Bought new one owner always serviced as should.
1 week and 1 day later we are stranded again on the side of highway going full speed in our Tahoe. We took it to two different certified Chevy dealerships and they gave us a vague resolution and this issusr is not fixed at all. Our engine is locking up on us at full speed on the highway. This vehicle has 83,000 miles on it and we’ve maintained this vehicle very well.
We were driving full speed down the highway and the vehicle completely shut down steering wheel locked and we were stranded for six hours. Turns out the dealer said it was just the battery and they fixed the grounding of the battery. I’m sorry but I’m not satisfied with this response. I’m scared to drive this vehicle.
A couple weeks ago, the truck suddenly started running rough and the front collision avoidance system failure message displayed. Immediately took it to the dealership. Computer read out showed #7 fuel injector failed. Repaired and was fine. Yesterday, 8/27/26, same thing happened again. Immediately went to the dealership. Now #4 fuel injector failed. Service manager just called and states that Chevrolet does not have that injector and on backorder with no date of expected delivery. No other Chevy dealer has #4 fuel injectors either. Tells me that there is an overwhelming demand for fuel injectors that indicates a defect. Meanwhile, the truck is out of service and GM is not addressing the issue to replace all the defective injectors.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where the NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) remedy was completed with an oil change and oil cap replacement. Approximately three months later, while the contact's wife was driving approximately 45 MPH, the engine stalled. The driver was able to coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed. The engine was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
I am writing to express my disappointment with how the L87 engine recall was handled on my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. I purchased this vehicle for approximately $82,000 and brought it to Kunes Chevrolet in Lake Geneva multiple times for scheduled maintenance. During my first visit after learning of the recall involving potential connecting rod and crankshaft defects, I specifically asked when my vehicle would be inspected and repaired. I was repeatedly told that I would receive additional information in the mail and that I would be contacted when repairs became available. Over the course of several oil change visits, I continued to ask about the recall. Each time, I received essentially the same response. During my most recent visit, I was informed that when the recall procedure became available, the dealership would listen to the engine with a stethoscope and then determine whether the vehicle required repairs or only a switch to a heavier oil viscosity. As a customer who invested $82,000 in a full-size SUV, I found that response extremely disappointing. The recall concerns involve engine components that could potentially lead to catastrophic engine failure. Being told that the solution may simply be listening to the engine and installing thicker oil did not inspire confidence in the long-term reliability of the vehicle. Ultimately, my confidence in both the vehicle and the handling of this recall deteriorated to the point where I no longer felt comfortable taking long trips with my family. I made the difficult decision to trade the vehicle in less than two years after purchase, resulting in an approximately $26,000 financial loss. I believe customers who invested significant amounts of money in these vehicles deserved clearer communication, a more proactive response, and a solution that restored confidence in the product. Unfortunately, my experience left me with serious trust concerns regarding both this recall process and General Motors' customer commitment.
ONSTAR module does not work. GM dealership claims the hardworking malfunctions and needs replacement for $800. Onstar is advertised as a safety feature that is now unable to be used.
My 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (VIN: [XXX]) suffered a catastrophic failure of the 6.2L V8 L87 engine assembly — specifically the connecting rod and crankshaft components — at freeway speeds on [XXX], just 9 days after purchase. The original failed engine is no longer available for inspection as it was removed and returned as a core by Shaheen Chevrolet in Lansing, MI as part of the warranty replacement process. The only symptom prior to failure was a brief squeaking noise that began approximately 0.5 miles before the engine failed. No warning lamps, messages, or other indicators appeared at any point before the failure. The engine then failed suddenly and completely at freeway speed, causing immediate loss of propulsion. My family was left stranded in an unsafe roadside location until a tow truck arrived. Sudden loss of power at freeway speeds creates significant risk of collision for both the vehicle's occupants and surrounding motorists. The failure was inspected and confirmed by Shaheen Chevrolet as a GM manufacturing defect involving the connecting rod and crankshaft. No police, insurance representatives, or GM field engineers inspected the vehicle beyond the dealership. GM authorized a full engine replacement under Special Coverage warranty (10 years/150,000 miles). The replacement engine (GM part #12740076) was on national backorder for over two months due to supplier capacity constraints. A loaner vehicle was provided during that time. This failure occurred despite a prior GM recall addressing the same rod/crankshaft defect having been performed on this vehicle. The recall remedy was ineffective. I have no confidence the replacement engine will not fail again. With approximately 597,630 vehicles affected, this represents a serious and ongoing public safety risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My vehicle, 2023 Tahoe, previously had the GM Recall 25V-274 / N252494001 remedy performed (0W-40 oil swap) in October of 2025. Despite completing the manufacturer's official recall remedy, the engine suffered a sudden, dangerous loss of motive power at highway speeds when I was making an out of state move and traveling alone; it was terrifying. I had to have it towed to the nearest dealership and that is where it is now as I had to leave since I was in the middle of moving. I need a new engine. I have no idea how I will get my Tahoe to my new residence or when. The dealership was not open on Sundays so I had to find a place to stay after leaving my Tahoe full of my items and my bike. I was so afraid it would be broken into. I had an oil pressure warning right before the engine completely stalled. And, I was accelerating up an incline and it felt like my Tahoe couldn't get enough power to make the incline. My Tahoe only has 35,047 miles, and threw the Diagnostic Trouble Code P0016 through my ONSTAR app as well as with the tech at the dealership. And, I am having a lot of trouble with GM corporate with rental cars. I had to pay out of pocket in order to get back on the road with my belongings as I start a new job this week at my new home. I had to leave some belongings and my bike with my Tahoe at the dealership.
When GM announced the recall involving the potential for catastrophic engine failure, I immediately contacted Bridgewater Chevrolet in NJ to schedule the required recall inspection. I was told the dealership could not perform the inspection because it had not yet received the required 'diagnostic tool' from GM. Once they received the equipment, they contacted me and on Oct 1, 2025, they completed the required recall inspection and informed me that my Tahoe had passed the recall inspection and that the vehicle was safe to continue driving. On XXX while driving over the Driscoll Bridge on the [XXX] with my daughter and our dog, the engine catastrophically failed without warning as I began to exit on exit [XXX] to [XXX] into heavy traffic. With no warning, the vehicle flashed that it was in neutral and then suddenly lost all power and stopped completely in a traffic lane, creating an extremely dangerous situation. After a few mins, I was able to get it started briefly, enough to coast along to a spot a few hundred feet away where there was a shoulder. From there the wheels locked and it would not move at all and windows would not open. It had to be dragged completely inoperable with locked wheels onto a flatbed three separate times. It was first dragged and flat bedded off the Parkway to a place we felt unsafe so we stayed locked in the car in July heat with no windows down, then to my mechanic and then to the dealership. I am unsure of the damage that may have caused. The dealership received the vehicle on XXX and within a day told me that it was indeed what my mechanic and they suspected - the catastrophic failure recall they had inspected and passed the vehicle for. As of today, XXX, I was told they just received an engine and can start a full replacement this week. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I have a 2023 Chevy Tahoe with 45k miles. Today driving two kids home from our football practice I was driving along at around 40mph and all of a sudden the transmission downshifted and almost locked the rear tires up. If it was winter, wet, or cool, there is no doubt that the tires would have locked up. Check engine light came on, and now the vehicle wont move in reverse and at around 45-50 mph the engine is running at 3,000 rpms. I volunteer to be a youth football coach and always have a car full of children. This isn't normal or safe. P.s. I should've bought the Ford Expedition.
My 2023 Tahoe HC 6.2L VIN Passed the Catastrophic Engine Safety Recall stating my Engine was SAFE. The dealership performed a change in oil velocity per GM's directives. Then the engine seized upon accelerating. No warnings, just dead, yet able to coast through a large intersection on a -20F day where NOTHING worked on the vehicle. Even though the engine would not turn over when hitting the Start button, it would only allow 15 minutes worth of Emergency Flashers before the sensors shut the vehicle completely down. We had to abandon the vehicle on the side of the road, with key fob in this NEW vehicle, hike to safety, and for warmth. Total mess up as how to tow the vehicle, even when I advised NOTHING (but SiriusXM) worked and could not put vehicle into Neutral. Had to wait almost a month for a Replacement Engine. Once Replacement Engine installed, I expressed how my vehicle did not feel, nor sound the same as the original. The dealership ensured that it was a 6.2L Engine Replacement, without being able to tell me where it came from, how many miles on it, or the serial number to this new engine. I was told to give it 500-1000 miles to allow Replacement Engine to "settle". Exactly 300 miles in, on the expressway, just coming out of a bottle neck slowdown, I got up to around 45-50 mph and it was like I hit an invisible wall! Vehicle lost propulsion. Seat belts locked. No brake lights since I was accelerating. Extremely thankful nobody was behind me. Obviously let go of the gas. Pause. Then I was able to drive the vehicle to a safe location off of the expressway, and shut it down. Immediately called dealer. Restarted, drove about 15 miles to safety, went to shut off and it would NOT turn off. Sounded as if trying to start it while already running. 20 min to turn off. 5 months at dealer, they could not mimic/see any issues, even though I could "feel" the loss of propulsion at lower speeds. Fearing ALL lives, I had to trade down yet more $
While traveling out of town on the highway,we had a sudden loss of power. My vehicle wouldn’t accelerate or shift. My check engine light came on and a message displayed that said something about reduced power. After limping to a dealership while in another city, I managed to wait hours for my husband to pick me and my children up. We waited several days for the dealership to tell us it was the valve body that needed replaced. My vehicle was NOT in the original recall for the valve body, although we experienced the exact same issues that the recalled vehicles experienced. This entire experience was horrifying. Along a stretch of highway that I was unfamiliar with, speed limits of 80mph, and a sudden, complete loss of motor power and speed, this could have someone. I had a vibration while staying at any constant speed for months prior to this, I had taken the vehicle in numerous times but was told the only thing to fix it was a software repair and that wouldn’t take care of the problem entirely. This vibration was and still is so bad that my phone will fall from the magnetic mount if I don’t let off the accelerator or increase acceleration. My vehicle still doesn’t seem to run properly but I am unable to get it to reproduce any issues when at the dealership. Extremely unnerving to travel with my family out of town or state and wonder if my fairly new vehicle will make it.
Rear wheels suddenly lock up momentarily during downshift at 30-50 mph (most reproducible 35-40). Transmission in a high gear (8th-10th); any throttle input commanding a downshift can trigger it: as the downshift executes, rear wheels briefly stop, skid with an audible chirp, vehicle jerks violently. Reproducible on demand, multiple times per drive, on video. Highest-speed event ~50 mph, family aboard. NO advance warning: no check engine light, no message, no stored code, no gradual onset. Traction control sometimes activates at the instant of the skid, sometimes not — always reacting to traction already lost, never before. A driver has no opportunity to anticipate or react. THIS IS A LOSS-OF-CONTROL HAZARD. It is especially dangerous in a turn, on wet pavement, or in traffic. Onset May 2026. Pursued repair since, across three shops: an independent, twice (no codes/leaks/abnormal findings; MAF replaced; unresolved; referred to dealer), then a GM dealer 3 days (test drove 34+ miles, no codes, fluid good, all shifts correct; declined recommended control-module recalibration, cause unconfirmed). Lockup recurred within 5 miles of leaving, same day; I returned immediately, asked for a tech ride-along while fresh — did not occur. Next day, a second GM dealer: tech note said fluid was low, though the same RO's inspection passed that fluid and found no leak; no leak ever identified anywhere. Paid $672 for a fluid exchange — unresolved. Days later, same dealer measured 265F on a 30-mile road test and condemned the transmission. Full replacement underway, largely out of pocket. Symptom matches recall 26V-085 (momentary rear wheel lockup, worn control valve, 10-speed/ETRS) covering 2022 models. My 2023 is not included. I am not asserting a diagnosis — no one has established the cause — but I ask ODI to consider whether that campaign should include additional model years. The failed transmission is available for inspection; videos available on request.
Piston ring went bad causing catastrophic engine failure. Now needs new motor. Only had 62k miles. It had been burning oil but was taken to the dealership for maintenance and they didn’t report anything.
I was a victim to the L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion recall. On June 19, 2025, my engine was replaced as it failed all test. After getting a new engine, I have had 5 engine misfires and the dealership blamed it on faulty gas. Now my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe that I trust to drive my two toddlers around, is at the dealership for a flashing engine light. Even after the engine was initially “remedied”, the new engine continues to fail and I have lost trust in having a safe and reliable vehicle.
We purchase the vehicle in February of 26’. Certified preowned they a Chevrolet dealership. It was disclosed to us that the engine had been recalled and replaced in September of 25’ (had about 1500 miles put on it, before we bought it) due to the ongoing issues that plague the V8 6.2L motors. We put less than 3000 miles on the vehicle and wanted to take it in for oil change and new tires. My wife had heard a rattling/ticking sound and wanted the dealership’s service department to check it out. They test drove the vehicle and immediately told us that this second engine needed to be replaced with less than 4,500 miles on it. We’ve now had a loaner for almost 7 weeks while we wait for a new 6.2 liter engine that no one is even sure won’t have the same thing happen to it that the first two engines had happen. GM needs to correct this issue. I read that over 1100 6.2 liter engines are on back order. This is unacceptable.
We had car checked due to strange and erratic shifting in less than a year of owning. Then took in for recall, they stated it was fine and performed the remedy with higher grade oil. Still had issues and took to another dealership to look at and they stated it was fine as well. About 2 months later while I was driving it was hesitating and would kind of buck and when I was about to turn on to a busy road it just stopped. I couldn’t do anything at all, the entire car was locked up. The tow truck driver couldn’t even get it into neutral to tow. Dealership said it’s the engine and it needs to be completely replaced.
Space does not allow for a complete statement. However, here is a summary. I purchased my 2023 Tahoe on 07/19/23. On 07/27/23, the check engine light came on. Since then, there have been approximately 8-9 instances where the check on. Each time I took the vehicle in for service, however, the check engine light kept coming back on. There have been 2 instances in 2026 where the vehicle would not start, and then the check engine light came on. A Chevrolet dealer service advisor told me that this is a known issue with GM and Chevrolet; however, no remedy has been found yet.
Following a GM-initiated over-the-air (OTA) software update on May 18, 2026, my vehicle's windshield wipers became permanently inoperable — stuck in the "on" position with no ability to turn them off. This is not a gradual mechanical failure or wear-and-tear issue. The malfunction began immediately and directly as a result of a software update pushed by General Motors. Because the wipers cannot be controlled, I have been forced to remove the wiper fuse to make the vehicle driveable. This means I am currently operating a vehicle without functional windshield wipers — a federally mandated safety system. I want to be clear: this unsafe condition was caused entirely by a GM software update, not by any action or negligence on my part.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, a warning message advising to reduce acceleration was displayed, the Check Engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over safely. The contact stated that the failure was recurrent. The dealer was notified of the failure and diagnosed the vehicle with a valve failure. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
It has not been inspected yet but will call the dealer tomorrow morning since I just this vehicle on Friday
Total engine failure.
While traveling at 55mph yesterday, I experienced a full engine failure which shut the car off fully while traveling on a single lane double yellow road. I was able to coast to a secure location. The car will not start or go into neutral. There were no warning lights that occurred at any time prior to the failure. This all occurred while on vacation 2 hours away. I previously went to the dealership for the recommended "fix" for the recall but that obviously did not solve the problem. This was an extremely unsafe situation for me and my family. I also encountered towing costs and significant loss of time. In addition, the car is at a dealership over 2 hours from my home. Chevrolet should be held accountable well beyond a recall notice which didnt solve the problem.
Chevy Tahoe with 6.2 V-8 engine started making noise. Started rattling. Taken to dealership where I bought it. Oil changed found metal in the oil engine making all sorts of noise. Diagnosed to engine failure. New engine is ordered . It’s been 2 weeks and I am number 5 In order for engine replacement at the dealership
Engine failure while driving to [XXX] from [XXX] . Mobile mechanic indicated a likely spun bearing. Less than 24,000 miles. Was stranded in [XXX] and delivered vehicle to local Chevrolet dealership same day as incident. It’s been over a month with no repair eta. Incurred significant travel and accommodation costs, with receipts available, due to the disruption. GM had thus far refused to confirm any reimbursement of expenses. The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, the vehicle shut off without warning. Due to the failure, the contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle off to the shoulder of the highway where the vehicle was then towed to a dealer. After the vehicle remained in the dealer's possession for over a week, the vehicle was diagnosed with an engine failure. The contact was then informed that the vehicle was placed under recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine) and that the engine would be replaced. Despite the engine repair, the contact stated that an abnormal, rattling sound would emit from the vehicle upon start of the engine. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle would violently jerk upon depression of the accelerator pedal while at a complete stop. The failure started intermittently; however, the contact stated that overtime the failure became more persistent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they claimed that the transmission was four quarts low on transmission fluid; they then informed the contact that they could not guarantee that remedy would repair the failure. The contact stated that failure improved; however, she would still experience a slight hesitation upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.
Two years in a row my car leaked a significant amount of water through every light button any hole in the ceiling. It also leaked all over the center counsel while driving and came through the foot pedals all over my feet and the entire floor of the vehicle while driving. The value of my car has been destroyed and Chevrolet is not taking this seriously. They have told me they will only replace the roof liner and half the carpet. They are not acknowledging the potential damage done to the electrical system and the overall value of the car from bad smells that have been caused by dirty water soaking the entire interior. My car is ruined and it should be replaced.
Oil consumption- 1-3 qts low between oil change intervals at 5000k No burning or oil smoke.
Engine stopped while driving 70 mph down the highway and the car shifted into neutral. Had to cost to side of the road. Took car into dealership and even though the car was certified safe drive and the engine had no issues 5 months ago, I was told the engine was now locking up. The engine failed despite using the higher viscosity oil that chevy recommended. These greedy cunts at chevy placed me and my family's lives in danger to save a buck; they knew that the engines would fail and instead of replacing the engines, they put thicker oil in the cars to hopefully get the cars past warranty.
Transmission has had a failure to shift problem on several occasions resulting in deceleration and a decreased ability to accelerate. This has occurred on most occasions at highway speeds while passing a vehicle causing a very unsafe condition. Dealer has evaluated and determined the transmission valve body is defective and needs replaced. Upon researching the problem, many similar GM vehicles are experiencing the same issue
The car has cut off three time while at stoplights. I can get it restarted but the dealership cannot duplicate it even though there are codes in the system. Also the automatic braking will randomly stop when it shouldn’t and it is a hard braking.
The engine randomly shut off while driving down the interstate and wouldn’t start back up. The car had the recall “remedy” done to it. Inspection and thicker oil. The only warning I got was to restart the engine after it shut off. My safety was compromised by breaking down on a main interstate coming through Memphis with no emergency lane to pull over in.
2023 Tahoe Z71 had recently been put in the shop, and evaluated for engine failure recall. Dealership/GM deemed it failed test for replacement, we were given 0W40 oil and sent back out, this last weekend we had catastrophic engine failure while operating at 50+MPH.
On April 10th, while traveling approximately 7 hours from home on a very busy highway in [XXX] , my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (6.2L engine) suffered a complete and catastrophic engine failure, requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle had to be towed and I was left stranded with no transportation. Prior to this failure, I had brought the vehicle to an authorized GM dealership for a recall inspection specifically related to the 6.2L engine on September 9, 2025 with 36,162 miles. The dealership technician inspected the vehicle and informed me that my engine was not defective and cleared it. Shortly after that inspection, the engine suffered a total failure at 46,6xx miles on the vehicle. I am currently leasing this vehicle at approximately $1,100 per month and have been without the vehicle for an extended period while it sits awaiting repair. GM customer care has been contracted and has indicated they cannot move forward with a buyback claim because the BBB is not taking my case because the vehicle is older then 2 years old which I know is a false legal claim. This is a serious safety concern, a catastrophic engine failure at highway speed poses significant risk to vehicle occupants and others on the road which appears consistent with other reported failures. I am aware that NHTSA has opened Recall Query RQ26001 investigating the adequacy of GM's remedy under recall 25V-274. My experience is consistent with the 36+ complaints that triggered this investigation, engine failure occurring after an authorized dealer performed the recall inspection and cleared the vehicle. I am requesting this complaint be added to the RQ26001 investigation file. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
As I was driving down the tollway in Dallas going 75 miles an hour, my engine completely shut down and went into neutral in rush hour traffic. I had to slowly get over from being in the left lane as my car was slowing and slowing. I was able to get over on the side of the tollway as cars zoomed past me. By the grace of God, I didn't get hit. Once it was towed, the service department confirmed that it is my engine that shut down and the entire engine needs to be replaced. Now the problem is they cannot find an engine or parts to fix it. No warning came on at all before this happened. Very dangerous situation.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The oil was changed at the local dealer. After 24 hours, the engine was blown after driving approximately 50 miles. No warning lights were illuminated. While accelerating from a stoplight, there was an abnormal squealing noise from the drivebelt. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, and the contact was informed that the flywheel was hitting the camshaft and changing the oil had disturbed the function of the vehicle. The vehicle was not fully diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,945.
We were driving down the highway at around 77 miles per hour. I noticed that the vehicle chimed as though I initially got into it and needed to start the engine. I saw the dashboard asking me to start the engine. I attempted to start it while we were coasting to a stop, but it wouldn't start. I was able to barely get out of the lane of travel and avoid a collision. I tried to turn off the vehicle and turn it back on but it would not start. It would not even turn over. The vehicle eventually cannibalized the battery because it would never shut off.
At less than 50,000 miles, my alternator went out and had to be replaced, causing the battery to need to be replaced also. Now, at only 51,000 miles, my transmission is having problems and causing the vehicle to jerk when shifting. This vehicle has had regular maintenance performed by a combination of dealers and certified service centers since it was purchased brand new. I have never had this much trouble with a vehicle and am very concerned about it's overall safety and integrity, given the severity of the problems for something that is not old and does not have high mileage.
Passed a truck in 2023 Chevy Tahoe on a two lane highway and the Tahoe would not accelerate. It switched into neutral and would not run. This was a major safety issue. There was a semi truck behind me that could have run over me and my family. Luckily there was wide open area next to the road that I coast into. Truck was towed to a dealership out of state while we were on vacation.
My wife just picked up our 4 year old from daycare. She just merged onto I-81N and the vehicle shut off on her at highway speed during rush hour! A message on the dashboard said "Please restart vehicle". She managed to pull the Tahoe off onto the shoulder, but couldn't get it started. She remained in the vehicle with my daughter and called 911 to request a state police vehicle park behind her so that she wouldn't be hit by any passing traffic. I (her husband) met her on the side of the highway and we tried starting it with a battery booster pack to no avail. We called a tow truck and had the car towed to the dealership that we purchased the vehicle from. They confirmed that the motor was indeed locked up and needs to be replaced. This vehicle already underwent the 6.2L recall test and "PASSED". It was running the 'remedy' 0W-40 oil. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.
Engine failure resulting in new engine.
1) The engine failed and lost propulsion while driving. It is currently at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle new, so it may be available for inspection upon request. 2) My safety was put at risk because the vehicle lost propulsion while driving. This is a dangerous situation in general. In my case I was able to pull over safely and have it towed to the dealership. 3) The problem is that the engine failed. This can be confirmed by the dealership. 4) This 6.2L engine was part of the N252494001 recall for specifically the issue of engine failure and loss of propulsion, so it had been inspected by the dealership recently. I brought the vehicle into the dealership for this recall several months ago. Per the recall, they told me that the engine would need to be replaced if it didn't pass the inspection. They performed a Pico test, informed me that it passed the test, and changed the oil to 0W-40. It has not been inspected by GM, the police, insurance representatives or others at this time. 5) There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted before the engine seized. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the reverse(R) indicator was flashing. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The semi-truck behind the vehicle almost crashed into the rear of the vehicle. After several minutes, the contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure reoccurred. The check engine warning light illuminated, and the reverse(R) indicator light was flashing. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to accelerate 5 MPH. The contact drove back to the residence slowly. The contact arrived at the residence, and the vehicle failed to shift into reverse(R). The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Total Engine Failure
The vehicle motor goes out with no indication that anything’s going to happen. It does this a different stages of miles. Mine happened when I was passing someone on the high way. It just shut off
Our vehicle passed their inspection required test for the engine recall and then at an intersection just died with absolutely no warning and wouldn’t even start again. Warning light for low engine oil came on. We were stuck and couldn’t even put the vehicle in neutral to be towed out of the intersection. Had to call a flat bed tow truck to load it and take to dealership where it was confirmed the engine failed!!! Police did show up at the scene to facilitate traffic and the loading of th vehicle
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) in November 2025 by the local dealer. The contact stated that the engine had passed the inspection, and a higher viscosity oil had been added along with the other steps stated in the recall. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The gear shift indicator indicated that the transmission had been shifted into neutral(N). The contact attempted to shift to drive(D) when the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was stopped but was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer who had completed the recall repair. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine, starter, radiator, and fuse block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
My 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LS has experienced repeated service issues within the first year of ownership. The vehicle has been in the repair shop five separate times and out of service for approximately five months total. Due to extended repair periods, the mileage remains extremely low. A primary concern involved the steering system. The steering wheel was noticeably off-center while driving straight, requiring continuous correction to maintain proper lane position. Steering-related components were inspected and replaced. There were no warning lights present at the time. However, improper steering alignment raised safety concerns regarding vehicle tracking and stability. The vehicle has been inspected and repaired by authorized service providers. I am submitting this complaint to determine whether this reflects a broader safety-related issue with this model year.
I took my 2023 Chevy Tahoe in for all recall corrections promptly when the notices were received. My last recall was to run a check to see if my motor was one of the defective 6.2L engines. It was determined it was not and the dealer changed my oil to the new required 0w-40w. Now a month later as I am accelerating on to the freeway ,I am at 65 MPH I cross traffic to merge on to a connector bridge and my car RPM's go through the roof and the car starts to slowly lose power. Zero warning lights are on at this point just decreasing power. As I am on the bridge my engine light comes on with a engine oil hot idle engine notice I am now at 35 MPH. Then a oil pressure low turn vehicle off notice comes up and we are at 15 MPH the car turns off. The screen says press start again but as we do it wont do anything. It then randomly starts turning off and on. We got to a point on the bridge where we could coast to the connecting freeway below and pull over. My car was towed to the dealer where it has been confirmed it needs a new motor with no know ETA of the new motor.
Since 15,394 miles vehicle has experience multiple system failures upon vehicle startup. 2/24, 2/25, 12/25, 1/26. In all of these 4 instances the brakes become spongy/hard, steering wheel locks, and I am not able to control vehicle. Dash lights up; "Brake system failure - 43mph top speed", "Fwd collision system unavailable", "Service traction control", "Service ESC", "Service steering column lock", "Service brake pad monitor". Dealership has replaced, Telematic control module, Electronic brake control module (EBCM), Serial data gateway module, Park assist module and most recently they replaced the battery and cleared the codes to "fix" the same intermittent but recurring condition. In 11/24 Recall N242447990 was performed, reprogramming of Brake system control module and Serial Data Gateway Module, the exact same issue happened before and after the recall.
To NHTSA, I am reporting a serious safety defect in my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe purchased from Criswell Chevrolet (Gaithersburg, MD). Defects include a documented brake system failure while driving and repeated electrical/shift faults preventing shifting out of Park. The issue is ongoing even after the dealer/manufacturer stated it was fixed. Key events: Feb 3, ~12:45 pm: While traveling ~35–39 mph on a five‑lane road, brakes failed. I slowed by coasting uphill and using maximum pedal force to ~5–7 mph before stopping. I have video of the incident and two other times this has happened with pictures as the car was in park. Three prior start-up incidents: All dash lights illuminated (including brake failure and Forward Collison System Unavailable); vehicle stuck in Park. First required towing; dealer could not replicate despite reported stored codes. Subsequent event stranded my family. I have notified Chevrolet and the dealer; their offer does not address safety or recurrence. Please record this complaint, assess broader risk, and advise on related recalls/investigations. If there is a path forward to ensure the safety of my family, please respond with that guidance. My phone number is [XXX] . I purchased a 2023 Chevy Tahoe in Oct 2025. Since then, I have been trying to figure out how to set up the myChevrolet app. The OnStar button doesn’t work so I called OnStar. After multiple calls, they told me that the account is linked to the previous owner and can’t be transferred because of a faulty telematics communications module. The faulty module is also causing the clock to run slow, which indicates battery drain is beginning. The OnStar module failure poses a huge safety and privacy risk. Safety concerns include battery failure that can cause me to be stranded and the fact that the previous owner has the ability to start my vehicle at any time, even while parked in my garage posing a risk to my family’s health/life with trapped carbon monoxide building up. Privacy concerns include the previous owners ability to track my vehicle, lock and unlock doors, access my contacts, call log, location, and more. This is a significant risk. The dealership should not have sold me a vehicle with a defective module without repairing it and now refuse to fix it. This should have been included in GMs factory recall for 2023 Tahoe TCU’s or a new recall should be issued. Consumers should not bear the burden to fix a widely known safety, health, and privacy risk.
When I started my car at home, all of the dash warning lights came on, one after another. I put the car in reverse and started backing out of my driveway. I tried to stop but there were NO BRAKES! I slowly pulled back into my driveway and turned the car off. I had to take off work that day because I didn't dare to drive the car. The next day I started the car up and the check engine light was on. Luckily, I had brakes and I could go to work. Now, a day later, my engine light is not on. I made an appointment at the dealership. They can't get me in until mid February so I'm stuck with this problem, not knowing if the brakes are going to fail while driving. Oddly enough, when talking to a co-worker who has a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban, she recently had the same exact problem with her car. She has an appointment scheduled as well. I also read a complaint on this website that had identical problems. This car only has 8500 miles on it. It's still new! Someone is going to be killed or hurt very badly if this ever happens while driving. Please look into this.
The following notifications showed up on my dashboard as my breaks failed me! I was going down a hill and hit the breaks and they would not work, I could NOT stop the car! - service break pads - forward collision system unavailable - break system failure - service traction control - service esc - check engine light on This is the SECOND time this has happened in 4 weeks. We just got it back from getting it “fixed” one month ago. One of the scariest experiences, losing breaks!
I am submitting this complaint to report a potential vehicle safety defect involving the factory-installed running boards on a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The running boards become extremely slippery during light snow or minimal winter precipitation, creating a significant risk of slipping while entering or exiting the vehicle. This occurs during normal use and does not require heavy snow or ice. I have experienced multiple near-falls despite stepping carefully, and the condition is repeatable. Given that the Chevrolet Tahoe is commonly used as a family vehicle and may be accessed by children, elderly individuals, or passengers with limited mobility, I am concerned that the running boards present an unreasonable slip hazard under common winter driving conditions. At this time, no injury has occurred; however, the frequency and severity of the slipping raises concern for potential injury if the issue is not addressed. The running boards are factory-installed and have not been modified. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue to determine whether the design or materials of the factory running boards meet reasonable safety standards for normal winter conditions. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [XXX] Vehicle: 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Component: Exterior – Running Boards INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle was around empty with 40miles remaining and would not start via keyless remote. Upon starting the vehicle all lights on the dashboard came on, this has happened previously and it fixed itself. When this happens, I have 0 brakes. Forward Collision unavailable, Service Brake Pads monitor, Service Traction Control, Service Steering Column, but most importantly Brake System Failure
As the owner of a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, I am currently experiencing persistent issues with the instrument cluster going dark and a severely malfunctioning GM 6.2L L87 engine. In November of the previous year, I encountered a sudden and alarming loss of engine power while traveling on a multilane highway at a speed of 70 mph. I successfully maneuvered the vehicle to a narrow shoulder, where I remained, accompanied by a Highway Patrol officer, for over three hours until a tow truck arrived. The GM certified dealership informed me that the engine was seized. The mechanics were unable to start or manually turn the engine. Upon removal of the engine’s oil pan, they found metal fragments in the oil. After having undergone an engine recall “fix” three months earlier, which included an inspection and oil service change to a more viscous 0W - 40, a new oil filter, and a new filler cap; in November, my engine failed and was replaced with a new 6.2L L87 engine. Initially, I was pleased with the repair, but I have since lost confidence that my car is safe after the new engine began exhibiting symptoms of a pending failure. The Tahoe hesitates on acceleration when merging with highway traffic, the engine dies when decelerating, the check engine light flashes at highway speeds, and the instrument cluster turns off at random. The vehicle that has been outfitted with a brand new engine is currently at the Chevrolet dealership; however, just like in August of 2025 during the Recall inspection, the mechanics there were unable to find any problems with their work or the new engine. They simply erased the stored P0300 engine diagnostics codes and ignored my evidence video, which showed the check engine light blinking at highway speeds. Despite the repair attempts, the issues have not been resolved, and the vehicle continues to pose a safety hazard.
My 23 Chevy Tahoe was diagnosed with catastrophic engine failure on 04/02/2025, and per recall N252494000 a case for engine replacement. That replacement was completed and the case was closed on 06/02/2025. Since that time the new, replacement engine has been consuming oil at a high rate, is running with intermittent lag and I am waiting for a diagnostics appt with Chevy.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced at the local dealer, the message "Add Oil" was displayed, and the vehicle continued to experience excessive oil consumption. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 18,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. The check engine and "Oil Pressure Low" warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle unintendedly decelerated. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the message "Press START Button" was displayed, and restarting the vehicle temporarily fixed the issue. The contact stated that after further inspection, the contact became aware that the vehicle had independently shifted from neutral(N) to park(P). The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, no cause for the failure was determined. The local dealer advised the contact that the oil level was possibly low, and an oil consumption test was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was no longer included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,253.
I purchased a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe on December 17, 2025. On January 17, 2026, with approximately 17,000 miles, the vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure while I was driving. The engine seized without warning, causing a complete loss of power and leaving me stranded on the side of the road. At the time of the incident, my newborn child was in the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk. The vehicle had no prior warning lights or indicators before the failure. After the incident, I learned that there was a known recall or service update related to engine oil viscosity for this model year. This information was never disclosed to me at the time of purchase, and no recall documentation or corrective service was provided prior to delivery. I have since been informed that engine replacement will take over 30 days due to parts availability and that no loaner or rental vehicle is available during repairs. Given the catastrophic failure shortly after purchase, the undisclosed recall, extended repair time, and safety implications, I no longer feel the vehicle is safe or reliable.
Truck bucked twice in high-speed lane of the highway, gas pedal went soft and we luckily were able to coast the truck to the side of the highway without getting hit. The truck put itself in neutral when we lost the engine and the truck would not restart. It had to be towed, while me and my two kids stood on the side of a dangerous highway for 45 minutes in the snow. The truck has 52,000 miles, Engine was already replaced at 10,000 miles. It just passed the recall inspection and had the upgraded oil that was recommended.
For the third time, my windshield wipers quit working in the middle of a rain/snow storm. Have taken the vehicle into GM service under warranty twice, the first time they updated the software but that repair only lasted a few months. Second time they replaced the windshield sensor, that lasted a few months. Now today, driving home in the snow my wipers quit working altogether. The sprayer worked, the rear wiper on the same handle works, but nothing else I could do gets the wipers to work. This is a big safety concern as it has happened all while driving in I climate weather.
On December 30, 2025, I was driving the Tahoe at a highway speed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I experienced two engine shut-offs. I was able to get the Tahoe to the Chevrolet dealer in Midwest City, OK. Advisor Tim took care of the vehicle and said that they "couldn't replicate the problem." He did mention he had to add engine oil because it was a quart low. We noted that we are currently conducting an oil consumption test with a Chevrolet dealer in Elk Grove, Illinois. He said we had a strong case for it, but the Tahoe was safe for traveling back home to Illinois. The following days, the Tahoe performed well without any issues. On January 3, 2026, we left Spencer, OK, and headed back home to Illinois. Without any warning, while driving at highway speed, the engine shut off completely and would not restart. The failure occurred at approximately 9:00 pm on a pitch-black expressway about 40 miles from Rolla, Missouri. I was traveling with my wife and two children. We were stranded on the highway shoulder. A state trooper was dispatched for safety. The Tahoe required a tow over an hour later, and we had to take a Lyft to a hotel. Logistics at that time in that location were complicated. Our family was terrified for our safety. Today is Sunday, and the nearest dealer is closed. We will have it dropped off tomorrow, January 5th, and go from there. We do not know how we are going to get back to Illinois. We have work and my son has school. The vehicle is currently disabled and under manufacturer warranty. This was a serious safety incident involving loss of engine power at high speed.
I asked the dealer for information about the L87 6.2L engine rod bearing failure recall. I was told that they wouldnt perform the work until i recieved a letter from GM. This was when i got my first oil change. Then every oil change after that i asked the same question. At 43401 miles i parked the vehicle and havent driven it since. I am afraid to have something happen to me or my family. I paid $82,000.00 for a vehicle that GM's fix is to add thicker oil. I think that the rods and bearings should at least be visually inspected. The dealers maintenance manager at Kunes Lake Geneva says theyll listen to it with a stethescope. If it sounds ok theyll change the oil. I paid way to much to chance my familys safety on thicker oil. To make the situation better the vehicle blue books for $56,000.00 IT DEPRECIATED $26000.00 IN TWO YEARS. That is unacceptable.
The car was parked totally normal, went into a store, then came out to start it and when it was put in drive every light on the dash came on and gave a warning for “brake system failure top speed 43 mph” “service traction control” “service esc” “service steering column lock” “service brake pad monitor” “trailer brakes disabled service required”. Shut the vehicle off and restarted with same results. Brakes were inoperable and almost hit the car parked in front of me. Let the car shut down for a couple hours came back and started it and now everything acts normal except there is a Check engine light. Haven’t read the codes yet but am making an appointment at the dealer for warranty work.
While Driving to my appointments via the freeway, all of a sudden the vehicle slowed down, I noticed most of the warning lights were on including the check engine light that was blinking. I Happened to be near a GMC dealership which previously did repair work on my vehicle and left it with their service center for a diagnostic inspection. A week later my service advisor contacted me with their Vehicle condition report that my vehicle had camshaft and internal engine group issues. He quoted repairs but recommended replacing the engine. Repair or engine replacement $21,296.51. Six months before this issue I had the same issue the warning lights and it resorted in replacing the brake control cylinder. Once repaired no issues/messages or symptoms with my vehicle until this current engine problem/replacement.
The car presented steering lock column issues with repair lights on at 50 miles. Since then, they have repaired the system numerous times and replaced that system fully twice. They also replaced the manual start system and six other pieces of the car over 18 visits to two different Chevy dealerships. The car still reduces speed and stops acceleration, has electric issues in the windows, lights and gate etc.
Vehicle suddenly lost breaking power while driving . The vehicle system shows Antilock Braking System issues. Losing Break power while driving has serious consequences
On 12/3/2025, I moved my car in the driveway at 11:15am EST without any issue. At 6pm EST, myself and 2 young daughters got into the car to head out an hour away. As I went to drive away, I stepped on the brake and the car did not immediately stop…the brakes failed and came to a rolling stop. At that moment all types of warning and lights lit up the dashboard. I placed the car in park exactly where it was in the driveway and left it. I also tried to select the Ebrake and it would not engage. I called the dealer first thing the next morning as that had been closed at the time it happened. I was told to bring it in and not to drive it so nobody in my car or else would be at risk. The car was towed at my expense to the dealer. When I got in touch with the dealer that afternoon to get a status. They advised the believe the BCM needed to be updated because it seem to not be communicating properly but wanted to keep it over night to retest it before they sent me home with it. Going to point out several things…thankfully I had not left my house, as I live on a mountain and should that have happened while descending it could have been catastrophic. No warning or anything that the brakes would fail! According to records it shows the did a recall update back in Feb 2025 regarding the BCM- however, how are we sure it truly was fixed or was defective. GM/Chevy needs to take accountability for this defect and safety hazard that could result in death. In reading forums, I am not the only one this has happened to
I dont believe the correct fix is changing Oil Viscocity
I bought this 2023 Chevy Tahoe rst brand new from the dealer and about a few months of owning it I noticed that the truck was needing oil before the next oil change. It’s as if it was consuming itself. This continues for month until last week when the truck died on me. I was able to jump start and everything worked fine for a day. The next day things got worse. I was on the highway and truck started shaking and giving off all kinds of codes. I took it to dealer and they said I needed a new battery but that there was also an engine problem. I bought a new battery and none of the messages on dash resolved like I was told. The truck is u drivable motor is knocking and was even making loud popping sounds. Of course my truck just hit 64,000 miles so gm is saying I’m out of warranty. I should not be having these types of issues on an almost brand new truck that I’ve owned 2 years. Engine light is flashing and dealer said this means major issue.
2nd Powertrain failure in 4 months in 2023 Tahoe with 6.2L engine. The first being the Camshaft and lifters failing at highway speeds, which was repaired. The second issue the engine seized while on a tollway going approx 70 MPH with my spouse, children, and family in the vehicle. We were able to coast to the shoulder while waiting on a tow truck. Because of the engine being seized, the Tahoe is waiting on the engine to be replaced. While we wait, we were told they have no loaner vehicles and there are no GM rental vehicles available with who they contract through. Having a 2023 leased vehicle fail twice in 4 months with children in the vehicle is unacceptable and brings to question the safety and reliability of the vehicle moving foreward.
The idler pulley was squealing. Dealership I took it to said this was the 3rd one they've had to replace in the last few days.
I was driving on an interstate when the vehicle check engine light came on and it went into limp mode causing the vehicle to go into low speed in the middle of traffic. Check engine light code P0747
While driving down the road, we heard what sounded like a gunshot into our vehicle! I pulled over and my top panoramic sunroof had exploded! There was no “point of impact” - no rock or falling debris, we were only going 45mph. It blew up and left fracture lines throughout the sunroof glass from the explosion. I just bought this car less than a month ago from the dealership (used but only 33k miles).
While driving my Tahoe on the highway at normal speeds approximately 65mph. I tried to exit freeway and my brakes were unresponsive. At this moment i began to allow the vehicle tto slow down on its own. I was able to safely exit the highway and the dealer ship was right off the exit. at low sppeeds i could push the brake pedal all the way down and acchieve some braking capability.
The engine in my vehicle has experiences major failures in valve flap adjusters, multiple valve failures, valve cover issues, and over consumption of oil by over a quarter in a week and a half of average driving. My safety was put at risk because the engine failure resulted in traction control malfunctions while going 70 mph up hill on a major interstate. This led to extreme shaking which did not stop until slowing down to below 15 mph. Luckily I was a mile from an exit and was able to coast off the road quickly; it was decent enough weather, and I was less than 5 miles from my destination so I could creep between 15-30 mph to not exacerbate traction control alarms. That slow mph did back up traffic behind me. As far as I am aware the problem was likely reproduced by the dealership service tech, which led to their recommendation to replace the whole engine. They do not consider it to be covered by any warranty anymore. The engine may be in their possession still, but I am unsure. There were zero warning lights/prompts from the vehicle that anything was going wrong prior to the shaking and loss of traction control at high speed. The dealer service team suggested that my high miles led to the engine failure. I do highway driving with it and have followed all manufacturer recommendations for oil changes, and even more frequent changes with OEM oil since about 80k miles. I do not think this engine should have failed at this amount of mileage. I made note of oil consumption around 95k miles and measured oil loss regularly. It was a little less than a quart every 2K to 3k miles which manufacturer states is within spec so I would top off oil. A year ago it had a TCM wire replaced after burning in half. 3 weeks ago I also had to replace the entire turbo. The wire rendered my car unable to go in gear. The turbo failure put me into limp mode. I think the turbo failure was a sign of a deeper issue that went undiagnosed.
On several occasions while operating the vehicle during inclement weather the windshield wipers intermittently stopped working. Restarting the vehicle several times did not remedy the problem. Once the vehicle was parked for a while the wipers started working again. This vehicle has been to the dealership regarding this issue numerous times and sent back in service with a message from the technician, could not duplicate the complaint.

While traveling on [XXX] approximately 20 miles west of Rawlins WY the vehicle entered “limp mode” causing us to drive at an unsafe slow speed. The transmission caused a check engine light to activate which was confirmed by a service technician in Rawlins with a PO747 code show on his OBD2 scanner. The problem was confirmed by the servicing dealer in Lincoln NE. The transmission was inspected by the servicing dealer. They replaced the valve body and fasteners approximately 1 1/2 months later. The problem first occurred at the time of the incident and I had no prior warning. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
on [XXX] we bought our 2023 Tahoe High Country from Jeff Gordon Cheverolet in Wilmington NC. In April 2025 a recall was announced on our car for engine failure. In June of 2025 we received a letter stating that a fix for the recall was to have an inspection done. If passed, then an oil change and new cap would be done. This was completed. on [XXX], I was on the highway accelerating to get up the speed, when I heard a loud pop noise. Then i heard loud knocking coming from my engine, the check engine light came on with the traction light as well. The car then had sluggish acceleration and would not accelerate but would have high than normal RPMS and rev when trying to accelerate. I knew then that I had engine failure. I was able to get the car to a safe place and called the dealership right away. They got it towed to Marine Chevy since it was closer. The next day they did an inspection on the vehicle and said the camshaft and lifters were broken and had to be replaced. I said I would need a new engine replaced due to the damage and recall. I was told it would not be under recall because it was the top and not bottom. They said the GM refused the new engine but would not tell me if it was the General Manager or General Motors that refused. I called and texted multiple times asking for pictures. They refused to send me any until 9/9 after multiple attempts. They only sent me one of the rods and rocker arms showing a rod bent and stated it was the lifters. still no pictures of the camshaft broke or lifters. These problems already have multiple class action lawsuits out for this particular engine failure. I was told the recall would still be on the engine even after the repair, I can still have engine failure. I refuse to pay the money for this car to continue to be in the shop due to a bad engine that was put in these models. I also have a case open with General Motors for replacing the engine as well and they are refusing to help. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When i asked Kunez Lake Geneva, Wi. When the engine recall would be taken care of. I was told that GMC has to order the recall first. Then when asking about the process of inspecting. They informed me they would listen to the motor and decide if it was effected or not. I paid $82k for this vehicle. I find that listening to the motor isnt a thorough way of inspection. After they deem the motor ok. There going to put higher viscosity oil & an oil cap. What if something happens in the future. Is my familys life safety not important? Summary General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2021 – 2024 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. Safety Risk If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace the engine. Vehicles that pass inspection will be provided a higher viscosity oil, which will also require a new oil fill cap, an oil filter replacement, and an owner’s manual insert.
I purchased a brand-new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. One of the key reasons for choosing this vehicle was its built-in safety and connectivity features, including the OnStar system. I also pay more than $50/month for an OnStar subscription, trusting that the service would provide essential safety functionality. Recently, the OnStar system in my vehicle stopped working. I received no warning, no service bulletin, and no notice from GM or OnStar of thhe failure or that this was a known issue. Upon diagnosis, I was informed that the OnStar module had failed and would need to be replaced—at a cost of $822 out of pocket. OnStar is a core safety feature that GM actively promotes as part of the vehicle’s value and security. For such a critical system to fail in a vehicle that is barely two years old is unacceptable. I believe this constitutes a product defect that GM/OnStar should be held accountable for, especially since multiple consumers are reporting similar issues on public forums. Most of all I had no indication in the vehicle of the failure; there was no check engine or issue light indicating a failure. When I called onstar the only explanation I got was that I should have noticed that the onstar light was out. That’s not sufficient for a safety item you expect to work like the breaks.
At a stoplight vehicle wanted to stall out Motor was shaking
Torque converter needed to be replaced, and then a week later still had the same shuttering and loss of power and the valve body needed to be replaced. Got it back and it still is shuddering and hard shifting.
I was driving down [XXX] in LaPuente and every light on my dash lit up and I attempted to Exit freeway and my brakes would not work so I waited for car to slow down and luckily I was near by the Puente hills Chevrolet dealer. Also my steering wheel was very lose and it felt that I couldn’t steer well. I pulled into dealership and had to push my brakes all the way to the floor board just for Tahoe to stop. Dealer said that there was various communication codes which they said vehicle would have to stay due to safety issues. My vehicle has been at dealer for 3 days so far INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My vehicle’s engine has been recalled since June. The dealer refused to inspect because there is no remedy to replace the engine. I have complained since I purchased the vehicle of noises that I’ve heard. I am hearing more noises, and I am increasingly getting more scared every day to drive my vehicle. I will not put myself nor my family in harms way I can get into an accident. I am afraid to drive the vehicle. I am not taking any chances of hurting anyone else or my family or potentially have a fatal accident. two months of driving around scared I will not drive my truck anymore. I am beyond upset that there is no remedy for this and that it is not taken seriously. Something needs to be done regarding my situation and all others. The vehicle was sold, most likely knowing that this was a problem. GM needs to make good on this problem before people get killed. I would like them to buy back my vehicle, I am sure I qualify for a full re-purchase. I called GM. They will get back to me in five business days. I cannot emphasize how afraid I am to drive my vehicle and I paid $110,000 for this vehicle.

Sudden engine failure while driving at high speeds - was not aware of any recall.
On multiple occasions my vehicle brakes with no warning. So much so I can hear the tires screech ever time. I brought to a dealership and they told me they can’t find the issue and no fault codes. This is understandable due to the fact that it doesn’t always happen. It’ll go so times a full day without happening. It mostly happens on the highway but happened today (24-July-2025) around 17:30. So needless to say this is a huge issue especially seeing I have three small children. Thank you so much for your time in this matter and I hope this finds you well.
Our 2023 3L diesel Tahoe had 63,000 miles on it and went into limp mode (CEL on) in late April 2025. We took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the valve body as the problem. We continued to drive it (as they mentioned it would be months before a replacement part would be in) while I did some research and discovered the magnitude of the problem. Just google it! Meanwhile, the rear wheels locked up on me after I had picked up our two children from daycare. It felt like we had a log chain hooked to our hitch that snapped us back - really hard! Felt like we had been rear-ended. This could have easily caused us to get in an accident, or worse, but thankfully we were not in heavy traffic. Our dealership was able to provide us a loaner truck. Approx. 50 days later, we were informed that we were approved for a new transmission - which was also on backorder! Almost 80 days later, our new transmission has arrived and been installed. We are very disappointed with how GM has handled the issue. We were lucky our dealer provided a loaner, as many have not. There are after-market providers who clearly state the upgrades they've made to the valves bodies, and while GM says they've upgraded the ones they make now, they won't share any details. I'm aware of this same limp mode/rear wheel lock up happening multiple times (on the same vehicle) to people in very low-mileage vehicles (less than 1000 miles). This isn't a small problem, and GM knows it. We will see how far we get with this "new" transmission, but as you could guess, I don't have high hopes! I just pray that no one gets killed.
Engine light came on. Flagged for a bad transmission valve body. Informed by dealership that the piece is on backorder and has been on back order for months.
Automatic life gate often closes when not wanting it to such as when loading from rear and reaching into vehicle foot comes near sensor or sitting with dog on rear bumper with gate open and dog passes near sensor these incidents have happened way to many timers
Transmission issue. Vehicle has the Duramax Diesel with 10-speed transmission. I am aware of issues with earlier year/s transmissions. I have experienced shuddering, jerking, a SINGLE momentary rear axle lockup. Jerky engagement from drive to reverse and or back. Reduced Acceleration warning on display. Check engine light comes and goes. Waiting for dealer to further inspect, drain fluid, etc. It appears from the VIN check that this vehicle had some metal work/paint prior to delivery to selling dealer, paint does not match. The transmission issue at 15,000 miles is just plain scary and not what one expects. That this vehicle sold as a 2023 has same issues as earlier model years makes me wonder if this is in fact a late 2022 model with the known defective transmission valve body? Any help appreciated.
Need new rotors and breaks purchased this vehicle with this issue and dealership or manufacturer want to fix this serious problem

Engine connecting rods and crankshaft have manufacture defects that could cause engine failure resulting in a crash. Driving in a large city with an infant and toddler makes the possibility of sudden engine failure extremely dangerous. It puts everyone in the vehicle at risk but especially the children at a huge safety risk. Engine makes odd sound but multiple Chevy dealerships say they won't look at it because they don't have an answer from GM.

While traveling on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost all power. The gas pedal became unresponsive, and the engine ceased functioning entirely—without any prior warning or indicators. I was forced to coast into a nearby parking lot to prevent a potential collision. This incident put both myself and my child at serious risk of injury or worse, had it occurred at a higher speed or in heavier traffic. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. I had no choice but to have it towed to the dealership for evaluation. A week later, the dealership diagnosed the issue as a locked-up engine, confirming that a full engine replacement is necessary. Unfortunately, the replacement engine is currently on backorder, and they are unable to provide an estimated time of arrival. To make matters worse, the dealership has no loaner vehicles available for at least a month. GM only offers a rental reimbursement of $44 per day, which is significantly below the cost of even a basic rental vehicle in our area ($74/day). This leaves me with limited transportation options, even though I am currently making monthly payments of over $1,400 on a vehicle that is completely unusable. Adding to the severity of this situation, the vehicle is also subject to a manufacturer recall, but no remedy or parts are currently available to resolve the issue. As a parent of multiple children, this entire experience has left me shaken. I cannot begin to imagine the consequences had this failure happened at a higher speed or in less forgiving conditions. I am extremely concerned for my family’s safety going forward. GM has stated they will not extend or provide additional warranty coverage until the repair is complete, which leaves me feeling unprotected and anxious about the future reliability of this vehicle. The absence of warning signs and the total loss of power while driving make this a critical safety concern that must be addressed. I urge NHTSA to hold the manufacturer accountable.
Front windshield wipers completely stop working while driving Vehicle is available for inspection Dealer could not reproduce or confirm Vehicle has been looked at by two different dealers, April 2025 and June 2025 Failure has occurred twice while driving in the rain, November 2024, approx 32k miles on vehicle June 8th 2024, approximately 37K miles on vehicle No warning lamps or messages

I noticed the gears of my Tahoe grinding when I would let off of the gas pedal. Eventually my check engine line came on. I brought it to my Chevy dealership. Upon inspection, I was told that my transmission valve body was bad and that I needed a new one. I was then told that my truck was ok to drive. I drove it for roughly another month until the check engine light came on again, and I heard the same sounds (I was able to catch it on video). This time, my truck would not want to accelerate past about 1.5 RPMs. I brought it back to the Chevy dealership which is where my truck is today. In hindsight, I believe I should not have been allowed to continue to drive my truck with a bad transmission part.
The sounds from the radio works only 10% of the time, the radio sound also is what produces the turn signal blinking sound. Additionally there is a scratching noise coming from the speakers almost like a bad signal from the tuner. This is very distracting and a safety concern, especially when the turn signal does not audible make a sound. When I call Chevy they say it will be $300 to diagnose, and if you look online this is a known issue amongst newer model Chevy.
Breaks keep making noises and all four tires need to be forced balanced dealership won’t fix the issues
Unusual knocking noises, performance issues, high RPM, - Traction control light is on Feels at times the engine is on verge of losing power while I'm driving on the highway with my children and I could get hit check engine light blinking constantly
Feels like the transmission is slipping. When I step on the gas it makes a jerking/ tugging motion like its pulling backwards and feels as though it has no power. It’s gotten progressively worse now over 10k miles and I should not have any engine problems with a new car. This happens every time I drive it. The problem is not fixing itself it’s getting worse by the day.
I took my car into the Fowler Chevrolet (AKA Century Chevrolet) Dealership in Broomfield, Colorado to get the engine recall addressed for my 2023 Chevy Tahoe-RST. I was told GM doesn't have a solution and has not sent any parts to the dealerships to deal with the recall. This is a significant safety issue/concern since I drive my [XXX] daughter every day in this vehicle. How is an OEM like GM allowed to get away with not having an immediate fix available to such a significant safety issue where an engine just fails and could fail without any warning lights on a highway. Extremely dangerous and nerve racking to drive this vehicle knowing there is this safety recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6
My 2023 Tahoe with 76,000 miles went into limp mode and activated an engine light. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and had the code P0747 which is pressure control solenoid A is stuck on. The dealership technician is recommending a valve body replacement to repair this problem. This is a known problem by General Motors and has extended it to the 2022 models only. This is a safety concern that is causing rough irregular shifting, and a engine light to occur.
Engine performance issues, engine hesitation, abnormal shifting, and reduced propulsion. Interior dash and radio illumination goes black. Blinkers fail to work; no sound comes from the radio and speakers. Mirrors fail to tuck after command given to do so.
While driving in a rainstorm on a highway at 70mph, the windshield wipers quit working and would not restart. This has happened on multiple occasions and the dealer could not recreate the issue. Visibility was virtually zero, creating a very unsafe situation. The condition corrected itself after multiple ignition cycles and several minutes being pulled over on the side of the highway.
Vehicle down shifted hard and dash board lit up. Wouldn’t shift any higher than 4th or 5th gear. Fortunately we were only going about 35mph. If we would have been on the interstate as we had been the 2 previous days on our trip to Florida it could have been deadly. Brought the Tahoe to Ron Anderson GMC Chevrolet in Yulee, Florida on 3/18/25. The transmission valve body is the problem. As of today 4/11/25 we haven’t heard another word and returned home to Michigan 3 weeks ago.

I filled my car up with gas and turned it on and it started shaking. Several warnings popped up on the dashboard screen including, Service ESC, Service traction control, And forward collision system unavailable. My cruise control was disabled I had to hold my foot at an angle to keep the speed at 45-50 mph, Causing it to take 10 hours for me to get home from Austin to Dallas. The check engine light was on the entire time and flashed for the last hour to hour and a half. I was unable to pull over at that time because it was dark And I was in the middle of nowhere by myself. The next day I turned my car on.The only thing on was the check engine light, Is , however , around 1 pm that day it Started doing the same thing. I drove it from My patient's house in allen To galleria chevrolet in Dallas. They told me my battery was too low to run diagnostics and I needed to replace it. So I bought a battery and brought it to them. They replaced the Next morning And told me there were no codes showing up so There was nothing wrong with my car and it was a fluke. Exactly one week later the same thing happened to my car. I called the dealership and they Hao it toewd to the service dept. After I repeatedly called them to check on the status of my car, they told me it was the fuel injector #1. They then were able to apply for a loaner car for me as I am a hospice nurse. These are same exact issues that the GM 6.2 L engines are having with the recall they just announced. I have a 5.3 L engine. I am afraid to put my kids in my car. Please help get GM to take responsibility for this!
First was engine shutoff while driving up a windy highway. No warning just shutoff. Second time was catastrophic engine failure. Was told by dealership lower end issue and will require entire motor replacement.
The vehicle’s transmission began slipping at low speeds with less than 40000 miles. I took it to the dealership for diagnostic testing and the requested that I do “maintenance transmission fluid replacement” as well as some additional reprogramming which the dealer also deemed as maintenance. However, the required transmission fluid replacement was not required until 45000 miles and the reprogramming is not listed anywhere in the maintenance plan.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000.
2023 Tahoe with 6.2L gas engine at 29k miles suffered a complete engine failure on a major road at 60mph with no prior warning. We were lucky to be able to get it out of the road safely but it stranded my family. It’s currently at GM dealer waiting for an engine replacement.
While driving and accelerating the transmission malfunctions and wont shift so as I try to accelerate the car stops accelerating and just goes very slow. This put us at risk as cars were coming fast behind us. The problem happened 3 times before taking it to the dealership where they knew exactly what the problem was because it has happened to so many others. The warning light that came on was the engine light and a message that read "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care"
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated to 5 MPH. The message "Deceleration - Warning" was displayed. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission valve had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available to repair the vehicle. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer for more than two months. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the part was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
Engine replacement at 13,260 miles due to thrown rods in cylinders 7 and 8 in September 2023. The vehicle is currently at the dealership again at 32,000 miles due to transmission issues. No ETA on replacement parts. Up to date on all maintenance and oil changes.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission valve body had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
We were driving on the highways, we had to break and the car shut off, we barely made it to the side of the road and the car would not turn over, start, or go in to neutral, which was very unsafe. Had to have it drug on the tow truck since it wouldn’t go to neutral and at the dealer it had 17 codes. The engine seized and they are having to order a new engine.
While driving on the highway at high speed, my vehicle suddenly shut down and went into neutral. After a few minutes of trying to start it, it started and I was able to drive it home. The following day, on my way to the dealership for an inspection, while driving on a busy street, it shut down again. This time, it wouldn't restart, and I had to call the police and a tow truck to have it towed to the dealership. I was freaking out as I had my daughter inside the car with me. At that point, the vehicle had around 26,000 miles. The dealership inspected it and determined the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. After the engine was replaced, the vehicle seemed fine, but recently, I've been experiencing problems again. The car struggles to start when it shuts off during stops, using the auto shut-off feature, and there's an intermittent hard shifting issue. It feels like the engine is failing again or maybe the transmission, but I've been told that unless the dealership can replicate the issue when I bring it in, they can't do anything. I'm concerned about being stranded on the road again, especially since my daughter is always with me. The vehicle’s engine and mechanical components don’t seem reliable, and I no longer feel safe driving it. However, I have no other option as it is my daily car for work and everything else. I’ve asked for an extended warranty from the dealership after the engine replacement, but I was told GMC doesn’t offer one for this issue. I’ve seen others on social media report similar problems, and I want to share my experience, as I’m just one of many customers facing this issue.
Engine: Power lost and engine shut down. Yes, it is available for inspection. Warning Lamps: Engine lamp came on: [XXX] [XXX] Engine shut down while driving. While bring my Grandson, home from school. I was on the ramp to exit the interstate, at the stop sign I lightly touched my brakes because I was going very slow, nothing was coming when I accelerated the engine totally shut down in between both lanes on a state highway. All of the warning lamps on the dashboard were lighting up and blinking, all of the alerts were making noises, no power and I had no control of the vehicle, then the “press start signal” came on, I had to quickly place from drive to park, and then press the start button to crank the vehicle. While this was going on my Grandson asked me in a startled voice “what’s happening”. Scary is not the word “I saw my life and his life flash before my eyes” with my Grandson in the vehicle. That’s a [XXX] of a feeling that you never want to experience. Then he said “this is nothing but a tin can ”. All of my family calls this vehicle a “Tin Can”! This was a very dangerous situation that could have been life-threatening or death. The problem has not been reproduced. Dealership sent a GM Field Service Engineer to inspect vehicle on 3/18/25. I have had many problems with this vehicle that cannot be diagnosed. Engineer test drove twice and scanned for codes before and after test drives. His findings: no codes found, was unable to reproduce power loss, and loose negative terminal on battery post tightened. At approximately 19.000 miles when the car sits for an extended period of time, at the first start up, blue smoke comes from the exhaust tail pipe. Brought it to the dealer and they said that, that was normal. With the issues they are having with the engines, I wanted this to be noted, because blue smoke is indicative of either bad piston rings or bad valve seals. This should not be happening on a vehicle with 19,000 miles and have oil changes at every 3000 miles.

We were driving on a busy interstate in Knoxville, TN on a Sunday. We were 2 hours from home and my 2023 Tahoe basically went into limp mode while I was in the fast lane and the check engine light came on. No warning in advance. The speed reduced, which backed traffic up, and put me and my 4 children in danger. We finally got off the interstate and the vehicle had to be towed in to the nearest dealership. I had a friend drive us to enterprise where they put us in a Jeep Grand Wagoneer. On Monday, I received a call from the dealership stating they had good and bad news. The good news was the repair is covered by warranty but the bad news was it will be 2-3 months before they can get the part. The part is on back order and several people are waiting ahead of me. The said part is a valve body for the engine/transmission. The dealership also informed me that warranty will not cover a non-GM vehicle and that they will only pay for a rental up to 44.00/day. It’s not my fault the part is on back order, nor that enterprise gave me a non-GM vehicle. Also, I have a family of 6, which is why I have a Tahoe and I cannot be put in a small sedan. My children play sports, we have upcoming vacation, and quite frankly, I didn't pay 90,000.00 for a vehicle to be placed in a vehicle that I don’t feel is safe for my family. If I had wanted a sedan, I would have bought one. GM should take better care of their customers, especially when something is like this is not the customers fault!!! I have contacted GM and have been told I will be called back by a supervisor each time I talk to someone. This is unacceptable!!
vehicle shutters when downshifting/slowing. Most commonly at cruising speeds between 40 and 50 mph, but does occur at lower speeds as well. Vehicle can be felt vibrating/shaking consistently every time it is driven. Was taken into a dealership, was not adequately diagnosed as it was only test driven 1 mile per the paperwork and they could not duplicate the issue and was told they were "in the business of making money to repair vehicles" and this was a warranty repair. While leaving a gentleman was walking in and happened to have the same type of vehicle and asked my husband what we were there for, turns out he was having the same issues. The vehicle shuttered the entire drive home after leaving the dealership and has continued since.
I was driving on [XXX] thru Atlanta to meet my husband in Adairsville, Georgia, and my car started squealing like a belt was squealing and then it started making a loud knocking noise and shut off I was able to get it to the shoulder to see what was going on, when I realized it was in the motor I was about half a mile to the next exit as I did not feel safe being on the side of the road managed to make it to the truck stop after it cut off several times just imagine if someone was close behind me when my Tahoe kept shutting off it could have been a very bad accident called gm roadside assistance and had vehicle towed to nearest dealer they couldn’t look at it so my husband loaded it into the back of his lowboy trailer and took it to hometown dealer where I bought it from Tahoe only had 22599 miles on it and I paid over 90k for this I feel like we should be compensated for this and the downtime of not knowing when I will get it back INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
2023 with 34,000 miles on the 6.2 engine. Shutoff while driving. Engine is bad and will need to be replaced. GM should be forced to do a recall
Driving on hwy at 75 mph and needed to brake. While decelerating and still moving, engine shut off, dashboard dinged and message said to press start. Vehicle put itself into neutral. Happened twice while driving on highway. Car currently in shop. GM stating transmission valve body needs to be replaced. Tahoe only has 28K miles. Part is on back order
Started having an issue a few weeks ago with the vehicle shutting off while driving for no reason without warning causing a very serious safety concern. This issue seemed to stop until one Saturday when i started the vehicle i noticed a small tick. This ticking sound continued to grow. The vehicle then shut off again with warning while driving. 7 days had gone by since the first episode. When I started the vehicle again there was a very pronounce rapping and it sounded like parts inside the motor were coming apart. When I arrived home i called Onstar. They did a diagnostic twice and said the motor was not showing any codes and running perfect. I had it towed from my house and upon inspection the motor is blown with 10,000 miles
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then determined that the sound was the lifters tapping. The contact was informed that all 16 lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer, who also diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was with the lifters, and informed the previous dealer might not have been repaired the vehicle properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 28,000.
Engine failure due to rod bearing failure, without warning at 16,500k miles. It is available for inspection if needed. Currently is at dealership waiting for new engine. The vehicle shut off while driving at 40mph forcing me to have to stop in the middle of a roadway without any shoulders or turn offs. The problem was diagnosed and confirmed by a certified Chevrolet dealership. The failed engine will be sent to GM by the dealer. There were no warning lights prior to this incident or after.
Vehicle broke down on 12/1/2024. Had it towed to the nearest dealership. Dealership claimed that gasoline was pumped into the tank. We knew that wasn't the case. I called the store we last used for fuel and spoke to the manager. She was able to pull my wife up on surveillance and verified that she pumped diesel fuel from a "diesel fuel only" pump on 11/21/24. We also verified that the fuel in the holding tank at the store was actual diesel fuel. My wife purchased 23.45 gallons of diesel fuel. The tank size on this Tahoe is a 24 gallon tank. We had burned half of this fuel before the vehicle broke down. We also verified that no one else had complained about the fuel from the store. Dealership said it needed a new engine. We had it towed to another dealership for a second opinion, but they couldn't verify what happened because the 1st dealership had cleaned out the fuel system. I called GM but they won't help because they are going off what the 1st dealership claimed. Vehicle is still under power train warranty, but they won't fix it. This vehicle left us stranded on the side of the road. Insurance was called and a representative did go and look at the Tahoe. He called back and said that the issue does not fall within our policy.
Traveling down the highway at 65 MPH the engine/transmission started bucking and you could hear the rear wheel lock up. The vehicle then would not shift and reduced the speed to 55MPH. Check engine light came on. Chevrolet is telling me the valve body needs to be replaced but keep driving it because it is on national backorder. After doing some research GM is hiding the issue and keeps installing faulty valve bodies. The GM fix is that they programmed the transmission to reduce speed when it notices excessive wear. GM is not standing behind the issue as it has been like pulling teeth to get a loaner vehicle.
First the front collision warning systems kept coming on and off. Then the engine died on the highway and I had to restart. I drove a little further and it died again and would not restart. I had it towed to the dealer and they are telling me the engine has seized and needs to be replaced. I have 40,000 mile and the car is 2 years old. It was very dangerous to have the car die twice while at speed on the highway.
Repeated issues with the infotainment system had to be replaced 3 times to date. The motor blew at 49,000 miles 3 weeks ago. The replacement motor is on back order and it is very difficult to get a loaner vehicle, not to mention having to make a payment on the vehicle that I don’t have to use.

When we first purchased our 2023 Tahoe the engine was making a tiking noise we took it back and they told us it was because it was brand new time past engine always needs oil when we drive it u have to press gas pedal it also has electrical problems back camera turns on and off . Brake sensors don’t work . I almost had a bad car accident due to the engine that it had stop because it said reduced power while I was on a highway . I lost my son 3 yrs ago in a car wreck . I don’t want no more accidents so please help me figure some out with my Tahoe . I also went to dealership and they directed me to a manager . Manager never help never called back or nothing we bought truck at friendly Chevrolet
I was driving my 2023 Tahoe on the interstate, in the far left lane. I had my wife and 2 kids in the car. Suddenly I noticed the air turned off and the dashboard screen went blank. I noticed that the car was now in neutral and the accelerator was not providing any response. I put on my hazards and started to merge across 7 lanes of highway without using brakes because we were going up a hill. We lost momentum in the second to last lane and could not move. The Tahoe then switched to park and the electrical system kept shutting off and rebooting. This also resulted in the hazard lights turning off for brief moments in time, so it was not effectively alerting other travelers of our dysfunction. (This repeated for the next 30 minutes until the battery died.) During that 30 minutes we were stuck in the lane with traffic buzzing around both sides of us honking and people screaming at us. My wife and 2 young children were upset and crying from the commotion. Poluce and emergency response team arrived, flagged traffic and drug the vehicle off the road.car was stuck in Park, with no ability to move to neutral. So tire rubber was smeared across the last 2 lanes and into the right shoulder. Later a tow truck arrived and hauled to dealership. The car had ~11,000 miles and bought the vehicle 2 months ago. This should not happen with new cars.
Engine, (6.2 liter V8), quit without warning at highway speed, nearly causing head-on collision. Engine wouldn't re-start and needed to be towed to dealership on flatbed truck. Vehicle also wouldn't shift into neutral requiring it to be dragged onto flatbed. Chevy dealer states new engines are on backorder with no expected repair date.
I was driving in the fast lane and all of a sudden my car went into neutral. Thankfully, my children were not in the car and I was able to merge over safely to the side of the freeway. after as I barely pulled off the car completely shut off. I tried to turn back on several times but would not start back up. I had my Tahoe towed to the dealership, and they told me the engine seized up and was a failed engine. Dealership ended up ordering another engine and it was missing some sort of plug that failed and had to replace again!
While slowing for a red light my vehicle shut off, completely powered off. I had to press the ignition start button to turn it back on. I pulled to the side of the road, then two messages flashed on the dash screen, Service Transmission and Service Brake Assist. I called and scheduled a vehicle service at a local Chevrolet service center. After the service center evaluated my vehicle (in their possession for 72 hours) they stated there were no diagnostic findings and they could not replicate the issue. A vehicle randomly shutting off with no identifiable or repairable issue is a public safety concern.

Our engine (v8 6.2 liter) failed with out warning while my wife was driving. She said that while driving all of a sudden the dash started flashing telling her to restart the engine. The car just started shutting down. She had to immediately pull off into the median and barely made it out of the fast lane when the car stopped. She was so close to the fast lane that there wasn’t enough room for a person to stand without being hit. We had our Tahoe towed to the closest dealer thinking maybe it was an alternator. The dealer confirmed it was a failed engine and that our vehicle is the third vehicle on their lot with the same failed engine. All of the failed engine vehicles have right at 40 k miles plus or minus 1k miles. The only problem that we had noticed before the failure, happened that morning when I took the Tahoe to fuel up for my wife prior to her leaving. I noticed the engine cranked slow for a second before it started. I thought maybe the battery is just getting weak and that as she drove it that day, it would charge the battery. The exact failure as I understand it from the technician is “ the 5th cylinder failed in the lower half of the engine.” Apparently this is failing because the bearings weren’t properly seated during manufacturing.
I went to reverse and my brakes didn’t work, the error then came on dash “break system failure max speed 43 mph” I then had to drift into a parking lot to wait for my car to stop. Car dealership said they can’t find anything wrong, I have images showing the error
The vehicle shut off on the expressway causing a very dangerous situation. After several attempts it would not start again. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer and they advised me the engine has seized up. Most likely they told me the engine blew and will need replacing.
On Sunday January 12, I was driving the vehicle on the highway with my cruise control on. The engine started missing the speed dropped a bit as the cruise control would not hold the speed. A mile or so later the vehicle engine started knocking with a metallic sound. I pulled over at the next exit and stopped at a store to look at the engine. There was nothing loose and a deep metallic knocking coming from the engine block, so I shut off the vehicle and called OnStar. At no time did any warning lights or other indicators come on. The gauges were normal. They/OnStar indicated I should not drive the vehicle, and they will tow to nearest Chevy Dealer for service and give me a $50 credit to take a Lyft to local airport to get a rental car. I was almost 4 hours away from home as I was travelling. After a week of turmoil with the local dealership I was told the vehicle needs a new engine. There is no ETA on the new engine as GM has to build it and has parts shortages. This was 5 weeks ago. I have been driving a rental since and there is still no indicate from the dealership about what happened or why. The vehicle is a 2023 and still under warranty but I am having to pay for the rental and request reimbursement which hasn't happened to date. There is very little information available, and I am in no man's land without a vehicle, so I have an open ended rental situation.
While driving the vehicle, the transmission stopped shifting and the engine shut off. There was no warning.

Fuel module failure. Tahoe stalled while on highway at normal speed of 55 mph. Near miss accident. Very dangerous, could have resulted in injury or fatality. Tahoe had to be towed to Chevy dealer, caused major problems. Tahoe only had 24,000 miles at time of incident.
1st incident- Engine had a bad lifter and cam shaft with 46,000miles. When this happened I was going through a railroad crossing, if the failure was bad enough and locked the engine up I would have been stuck on the tracks with my family. This issue could cause the motor to lock up if the lifter or cam shaft had a more serious failure. Dealer confirmed the lifter and cam shaft were bad and replaced. the engine had a vibration 2 weeks before the failure but the dealership could not identify or duplicate the issue. Vehicle was in the shop for 35 days to repair. 2nd incident- Parking brake and brake system locked up and would not release until the vehicle was reset. Scheduled vehicle to be towed in and the brakes locked up again while loading the vehicle to tow. Dealer is still troubleshooting the issue after 5 days. Errors on screen "Forward Collision System unavailable, Brake system failure 43mph top speed, Service steering column lock, service traction control, Service ESC, Service Brake Pad Monitor" If this happened while on the highway it had the chance to cause a serious wreck.

With 63,000 miles the vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure on a freeway. This resulted in loss of power with no ability to get the vehicle to a safe location. It was determined that the #7 crankshaft bearing was the cause of failure and the compete engine was replaced as a result.
Traveling on the interstate late at night in the winter with my family, which includes small children, a clicking noise began but then went away. No diagnostic lamps came on, everything seemed fine, vehicle responded appropriately. Moments later, on a remote stretch of interstate, we lost power and the engine shut down. The vehicle would not turn back on. We were stranded in the dark on a freezing night.
I was driving down the interstate and with the no warning the vehicle would not accelerate any longer and tried to coast onto the exit. Totally stopped blocking all traffic on the exit. Could not crank the engine or at least put in to neutral to push out of the road. Had it towed to dealership and they said motor had seized up, connecting rod bearing seized on crankshaft causing extensive metal contamination throughout engine. Wanted GM to buy back the vehicle but would not. Only replaced the engine.

After getting gas just outside of Pueblo Colorado on [XXX] I was entering [XXX] and luckily I was in the right lane when all of a sudden no power to the vehicle. I was able to make it by inches in the clear on the shoulder of the road. Being [XXX], I had trouble crawling over the console through the passenger side of the vehicle because I could not safely see the traffic on the interstate to exit the vehicle on the driver side. The state police could not come to assist us with any type of traffic control because of other accidents. The BNSF railroad has a mutual aid pack with them when needed in an emergency situation. They were able to come assist us with the red lights for traffic control, and the tow truck arrived and was able to flatbed the vehicle to a GM Chevy dealership. The tow truck also delivered our 26 foot travel trailer to the nearby campground. If it wouldn’t have been for the BNSF police this could’ve been horrendous accident because of the traffic. I have never been in a more scary situation as with the 2023 Tahoe built by a major corporation and being as unsafe as it is. I have been told the engine needs to be replaced because the bearings failed with metal fragments found in the oil pan. Main bearing failure on my 6.2L at 17,000 miles. Starting making knocking noise, and within two miles it died and wouldn’t restart. No check engine light or warning lights. Blew a 40 amp fuse. Once replaced started but knocked and died. Dealership determined spun main causing internal engine failure. Motor replaced. Started making internal engine noise again like almost a spark knock type noise or rattle under acceleration. Has 32k miles on it now and bring into dealer next week for issue. Engine was on back order and took over a month to get.
While driving, without warning my brake system failed and vehicle did not stop when I applied my foot on the breaks. In addition to while driving up a steep incline the engine failed as I was actively applying my foot to the gas pedal causing vehicle to roll backwards. Most importantly i do not feel confident using this vehicle any further knowing that the brakes are Not operating as they should, risking my life and my children’s life is nonnegotiable. Someone help please.
On January 21, 2025 while with my family in -15 degrees, the vehicle suddenly went into ABS lock. We were completely immobilized and unable to move the vehicle. The following warning lights illuminated on the dashboard:Antilock Braking System errorService Steering Column LockService Traction ControlBrake System Failure 43 MPH top speed. The vehicle was effectively locked, preventing us from driving or even reversing. This left me and my family stranded in a potentially hazardous situation with the freezing temperatures.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle's lane assist feature would be active with no other vehicles in the contact vehicle's vicinity. The contact also stated that multiple other electrical defects would occur such as the backup camera activating while in drive(D), the instrument panel intermittently going blank, and various other defects. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions where they failed to duplicate the failure. The contact then stated that while driving at 80 MPH, the instrument panel went blank. The contact attempted to pull the vehicle over; however, an unknown turn-off of the vehicle warning message appeared on the instrument panel as a warning chime was also emitted from the vehicle. The contact then stated that the vehicle then came to an abrupt stop where the engine and brakes seized, while traveling at 34 MPH. Due to the failure, the contact was taken to the hospital where they were treated for whiplash, inflammation in the neck and spine, 7 bulging discs in the spine, and pain in various parts of the body. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure; the vehicle's engine was replaced under warranty. Despite the repair, the contact refused to take possession of the vehicle as they did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed; the contact had yet to receive any assistance from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
Failure - metal in the oil. Engine replacement at roughly 11,800 miles.
On [XXX] while driving on the highway near Wash DC engine stopped, went to neutral. Would not start again. OnStar towed vehicle to Koons Chevrolet GMC Tyson in Vienna VA. 703 448 7221. On Tuesday Jan 7th, Koons Service Dept. looked at vehicle and determined that it was a thrown bearing and needed a new engine. There are 28,712 miles on vehicle. You can inspect if desired. Our safety was extremely compromised. We were on a 5 lane highway in the left hand lane going 65. Engine quit and we had to coast to the far right lane in heavy traffic. We almost got hit several times on the maneuver and rear ended on the side of the road from oncoming vehicles while waiting for a tow. Dealer has work order to fix the vehicle. Vehicle was not inspected by the manufacturer that we know of, nor the police or insurance representatives. Only inspected by the dealership. The only symptom before the incident was a dull sound like a plastic bag being stuck in the grill for a few minutes before incident. The Service Department said the parts are on a "Galactic backorder" which means they do not know when they will come in. GM is extremely uncooperative in assisting us with this issue. They will not repurchase vehicle, will not put in writing why they wont repurchase it. Will not provide any compensation until the issue is resolved, which could be months. It is an extreme financial hardship for me to cover my rental car (taxes and insurance for the rental car are not covered) and continue to pay the car payment and the insurance on a car that is not available to me. My case number with GM is [XXX]. I need my loan payed off or a repurchase for the original value of my car so I can purchase another vehicle. While sitting at an intersection of a busy 4 lane road the engine stoped without warning and could not be restarted. Due to a poor design by GM, the Tahoe has no ability to be put in neutral when the engine isn’t running. We were stuck at a busy intersection an almost hit multiple times, until a tow truck could come since it cannot be put in neutral and pushed. Dealer inspected engine and found it had been burning oil. The car never gave any warning lights that it was low on oil or that there were any engine issues. They did an oil change and gave the car back. The car was running, but within less than 5 miles of driving it it started to shake and make horrible noises. At this point, I was driving on the interstate. I was able to limp the vehicle back to the dealer. It was diagnosed by a dealer with spun engine bearing. I was told they were very close to seizing up and I would’ve been stranded on the interstate with no shoulder. This could’ve caused a major issue as I was on a busy interstate and the vehicle would’ve locked up. There was no shoulder at this point due to construction. Through both of these issues the vehicle never gave any dashboard warning lights. There are two major design flaws. The engine has an issue with its bearings. Also, there needs to be a way to put the vehicle into neutral while the engine is not running. It is not safe to not be able to put these vehicles into neutral.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,144.
Onstar Telematics Module failure. Part is on backorder with no ETA. This module failure removes the navigation, Onstar services including safety notifications, clocks can stop working, Android auto/Apple Carplay services are not functional or intermittently working. My vehicle has stalled out at a red light. GM is refusing to cover the replacement saying it is out of the bumper to bumper to warranty but they have so many of these needing replaced they can't say when they will get the parts. Module has been confirmed dead by a mechanic at a private shop and by the dealership. GM states this is under the bumper to bumper to warranty even though it controls parts of the power train and should be covered under powertrain warranty as well.
Vehicle 1 pulled out into Vehicle 2s lane and cut them off causing Vehicle 2 to slam on the breaks causing My vehicle ( Vehicle 3 ) to collide into the back of vehicle 2. No emergency breaking a-curd and no airbags deployed durring contact at rate of speed of 45-60MPH. Total damage to Vehicle 2 rear end and total damage to vehicle 3 front end.
The vehicle made a ding sound and the air bag light came on for a few seconds and then went off.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while the dealer was performing an oil change on the vehicle, the dealer informed the contact that the engine was making an abnormal knocking sound. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to GM Campaign Number: N232413430. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to partially cover the repair. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The windshield wipers stop working. This is the third time it has occurred in the last 8,000 miles. While driving they quit working and will start back after.20-25 minutes. I took it to the dealer and they did a software update however it has done this again. This is a major safety issue.
I am writing to express my deep frustration with a recent issue I have encountered with my brand new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe (VIN: [XXX] ). Following the expiration of my complimentary OnStar subscription, I discovered that all voice-activated and Bluetooth functions are inoperable unless I purchase a separate wireless plan at $25 / month which I cannot afford. This is a stark contrast to my previous six Chevrolets, all of which allowed hands-free phone calls and navigation functionalities via Bluetooth without requiring an additional subscription. I have contacted two Chevrolet dealerships, spoken with numerous employees, and reached out to OnStar, spending a total of nearly two hours on the phone attempting to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, no solution has been found. My primary concern is safety. Manually operating my phone while driving is unacceptable, and in some states illegal, putting myself and others at risk. Additionally, the lack of hands-free navigation significantly detracts from the convenience and value of the vehicle. While I appreciate the technological advancements in the 2023 Tahoe, the current system feels restrictive and potentially detrimental to customer safety. I understand the potential for additional revenue through data plans, but I believe the potential for unsafe driving and safety concerns outweighs this consideration. The infotainment screed goes black. To get it to go on you have to turn the car off, get out of the car with the key fob so the vehicle is completely disconnected and wait 10 to 15 minutes. After it starts working the infotainment systems "crashes" in about 30 to 45 minutes. It is a constant problem. The infotainment system includes all vehicle safety systems settings and speaker. The warnings will not work because the speaker is not working. Also the On Star system will not work in case of an emergency. On Star uses the infotainment system to work. I can not stop all the time so it dangerous while driving. I took it to the dealer and they said GM knows about the problem but does not have a fix. The problem started near the end of June, 2024. The issue was reproduced by the dealer.
At 5000 miles after the last oil change, my low oil light came on, took it to my local mechanic and he said it was 3 quarts low. took it to the dealership and they say this is normal but have me to a check every time i put gas up to 2000 miles. bring it back and they say its one quart low and this is normal. The attendant at the dealership says he sees this often and knows its frustrating but thats GM policy and there is nothing he can do. I do not think this is normal and have searched on the internet and find that many people have this problem. I do hope this is looked into because i feel like this is an issue and GM doesnt want to have to fix it because of cost
On 5/27/23 I purchased a new 2023 Chevy Tahoe RST with a 6.2L V8 engine. On 5/28/2024, between 5 and 6pm (rush hour) I merged onto State Highway 32 in Maryland. I accelerated to match the speed of traffic and moved to the far-left lane. I was traveling between 60 and 65 MPH when my vehicle shifted into neutral by itself. I was unable to shift the vehicle back into drive. There was no shoulder on the left, so I had to coast through 2 lanes of traffic moving at a similar speed to reach the far-right lane. I could have very easily caused an accident, injuring myself or others. After successfully pulling off onto the shoulder I was still unable to move out of neutral. I had to shut off my engine and restart the vehicle to shift it into drive. I was unable to recreate the failure and safely made it home. In the days following the incident, I began to hear a clicking sound when I accelerated. At no time did a check engine light turn on and my OnStar vehicle report showed my Tahoe was in good health, including the engine. I brought the vehicle to Criswell Chevrolet on 6/14/24 to service the vehicle. I was told later that afternoon that my vehicle required a brand new engine. The vehicle and engine are available for inspection upon request. I was awestruck that a brand new vehicle with 19,000 miles could possibly need to have the engine replaced. While conducting online research, I see that other 2023 Tahoe owners have had a similar experience.
While driving the engine began operating very rough and all system lights indicated an issue including safety features were now no longer operating.
Bought new and there was a brake pad sensor message immediately that we took it to the dealer several times for and nothing was done other than clearing the code and giving it back. Was in accident 1/24 and it was found that there was a frayed/damaged wire in the break module and break pad sensor that I feel could have led to the accident
Tire is torn in the sidewall at the bead inside the rim edge. The tire had less than 10,000 miles on it and was installed on March 14th 2023, failing around [XXX] (around 9 months of use). It had been installed on a set of Chevrolet wheels before arriving at the dealership and that tire/wheel combo was installed on the Tahoe by Chevrolet in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The tire failure appeared to occur without provocation and failed on a 2.1 mile drive from the store home. The tire on the rim was mostly covered by the edge of the rim and it was very hard to spot visually. There was no damage to the rim, nor any reason the tire might have been lacerated by the rim. Upon dismount for replacement, the damage appears to be a tear or rip and does not appear to be puncture damage. The tire was replaced at Chevrolet and they noted that there was no reason for the damage (and charging us for the failure). The tire was then shipped to Bridgestone and was returned to the Chevrolet dealer and it was explained that they said, "it happens". The only warning lamp that illuminated was the TPMS low pressure warning as the tire quickly deflated. I still have the tire in my possession for inspection. My safety was put at risk because the tear occurred during normal driving and without provocation. Luckily we were in the neighborhood and speed was 25 mph. Had this happened on the interstate, the outcome could have been quite different. This was a Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02 275/50R22 111H M+S dated 5022. Thank you! My issue with the vehicle is that the reverse lights do not project enough and when backing up at night you can not see it or even with the back up camera. It’s poor placement of the light and does not provide adequate light when backing up. I have not had any incidents with it but I feel like it is a huge potential problem
Message on car states: Service Door Latch System First, the driver door stopped locking and latching. Then, days later the rear doors also stopped locking. The dealership is recommending to replace the door latches on the inside of the door and it is very expensive.
2023 Tahoe High Country was being operated at Interstate speeds when the vehicle shifted to neutral, engine died and the vehicle experienced a rapid decrease in speed. Check engine light activated as well as dashboard lights. Was able to guide vehicle to side of road. Unable to start vehicle and was towed to local dealership. Learned the engine was blown as well as a large 20amp fuse. I am an expert in traffic crash reconstruction and this type of incident could lead to serious injury or death.
I've had my 2023 Tahoe for 15 months, purchased Dec. 2023 Issue #1. Dash message on start up " Restraint System Needs Service". I noticed small lights overhead (buttons for tail gate, sun roof, reading lamps) were off. I pressed some of them, and dash message went away, and lights came on. Everything worked fine. I've narrowed it down to the passenger side reading light. When dash warning comes on, I press reading light, and whalla! all works fine. This has happened about 6 times over the last year. Issue #2. After driving many hours (9 hr drive, then a 2hr drive, then 4hr hr drive on different days/nights) in rain with wipers in auto mode, using defrost on and off as needed. Suddenly, wipers stop working as well as headlights in auto mode! Scary. Pulled over and waited with engine off. Restarted and still nothing. I was able to use headlights in full ON mode. I turned the wiper switch all the way from top-pulse to the full-on 4-6 times really quick back and forth, and like magic, everything worked again! This has happened 3 times in the last 2 months (always during several hours of rainy weather driving). Dealer says they can't fix what they can't witness. I suppose my only recourse is to video tape it and then show dealership.

Driving down a street we heard a loud boom almost sounded like something exploded We looked around but saw nothing. Then started hearing noises from the sunroof Sure enough it had exploded Not cracked And it is smashed outwardly not in therefore not something that hit it or caused impact from the outside in. We researched it and seems to be a known ongoing issue. Very dangerous as it is happening more and more. It definitely startled us and could have been a scary situation if we had been on the highway. Also dangerous if that glass falls on you while driving.
While driving this rental vehicle in traffic it shutdown and came to an abrupt halt. All lights on the dash were flashing, emergency hazard lights would not turn on. Attempted to restart vehicle with no result. After 2 minutes vehicle dash lights went off and hazard lights were able to be turned on. Vehicle then restarted. While pulling vehicle off the road, brakes were not responsive.
This is a brand new vehicle with a known problem to GM yet they keep selling them and admit they cannot fix it. The audio system, including the blinker sound, is warning systems and hands free phone capabilities do not work properly, if at all. This is a distraction while driving - especially when it comes to phone use. It is deceptive and putting public safety at risk, not to mention costing consumers thousands of dollars. Their built in safety system (onstar) cannot be accessed due to lack of audio rendering it useless in a crash/emergency which is a selling point they tout. I do have video of this occurring. Dealership says they cannot repair and that consumers are just stuck with expensive vehicles they cannot rely on.

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the "service safety restraint system", warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic was performed; the diagnostic showed that there was a defect in the overhead module which rendered her airbag ineffective. The contact was informed that the part to repair the vehicle was on backorder and was given a time estimate of six weeks after the diagnostic was performed. The contact recently called the dealer and was informed that part was still unavailable and that there was no longer an ETA on the part. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 15,000.
We have a chevy with the 6.2 V8 engine. First we were at a stop light on the highway and the car shifted into Neutral and would not come out for two light cycles. My wife and children were stuck at the light with car's swerving around them at 65+. Finally it shifted into Drive. We called the Chevy dealership and they said it would be a month before they could look at the car and there were no check engine warnings. Two days later my wife and family were driving down the highway and suddenly it started making a flapping sound from the engine bay and was losing power. She pulled over and turned off the vehicle to see if that changed anything. The car would not restart and the check engine light was on (solid not flashing) it would just try to turn over with no success. We had it flat bed towed to the chevy dealership where they told us the engine was blown and that it had thrown a rod. We have 3900 miles on the vehicle and I would say this is a significant safety issue given that it can disable the vehicle on a busy highway.
This Tahoe comes with a full size spare. This model includes Brembo front brakes. The included spare cannot be installed/mounted to the front axle as the wheel is undersized and will not fit over the brake calipers. None of my ordering information nor MSRP label or model information on Chevrolet.com points out the included spare tire/wheel cannot be used in all positions of the SUV. Finding this out at 5am in the dark and drizzle of a cold Michigan morning on the side of US23 southbound is not the least bit safe.

Intermittent loss of sound on all electrical aspects of vehicle. Can not hear music, phone calls, blinker, seat belt signal, crash detection sound. None will work. Even after turning off and turning back on issue remains unless vehicle is off for 15-30 minutes then it will reboot !
Less than four weeks after having purchased a new 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LT the backup and 360-degree surround vision camera system completely failed. The cameras would intermittently flicker or would lose connection all together preventing the driver from being able to reverse having the benefit of the camera vision. The rearview camera screen turns black with a red triangle containing an exclamation point alongside a "no camera" circle symbol. The Chevrolet dealer has inspected the vehicle and has confirmed the camera computer is defective and cannot be fixed - a replacement module with recalibration of the cameras is necessary. The vehicle cannot be driven safely, and thus has been with the dealer now for 18 days, with no time table from either the dealer or from General Motors as to replacement of the failed component. The vehicle had been driven less than 700 miles before this failure occurred.
Frequently getting warning message on main info display stating "Service Safety Restraint System". This is consistent with a message and service bulletin issued for 2021 Tahoes where there is an issue with the connector for the airbag under the seat.

Component Failure Cascade Risk
Known patterns where one defect leads to more severe downstream failures
▸ Head gasket failure and engine overheating — EGR cooler failure is the leading cause of catastrophic engine failure on diesel engines
▸ Engine stalling at speed — fuel delivery failure can cause sudden loss of power in traffic or on highways
▸ Loss of brake assist and ABS in emergency — can significantly extend stopping distances
▸ Engine derate or no-start condition — DEF system failure puts vehicle into limp mode limiting speed to 5mph
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 222 total NHTSA complaints filed over 4 years, with the worst year being 2025 (114 complaints).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 72/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
The recall (red dashed line) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.
Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2024, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
