The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal after cold starting the vehicle. After a diagnostic test by an independent mechanic, DTC: P0300, P0420, and P0500 were retrieved, indicating an engine misfire. The mechanic informed the contact that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that there were no open recalls associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

My check engine light and traction control light came on at approximately 157,000 miles. I was not safe. I was in the middle of the freeway. My Tahoe slowed and sputtered! I had to be towed. I got an inspection at Folsom Buick GMC in Folsom, CA at the recommendation of GMC General Motors Corporation. Fuel Injector #6 failed and required replacement. The dealership would not repair the fuel injector under the Special Coverage N182198000, stating your 7,000 miles over the special coverage. They wouldn't even provide a discount for the quoted $1832.00 dollar repair. Though General Motors Corporation sent me to their 3rd party partner for the inspection, they also refused to offer any help with my bill, further stating you're over the mileage. General Motors Corporation also sent out bulletin 11-00-89-005W, where it specifically states dealers are required to use the Policy Evaluation Tool and are encouraged to follow the recommended amount of GM participation towards the repair cost, and they failed to honor their own bulletin and product.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 MPH uphill in the mountains, the transmission started slipping, followed by a loud banging sound. The contact stated that later, while fishing, there was an abnormal metallic sound like BBs hitting a tin can coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that previously, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lunged forward, followed by grinding and banging sounds. There was no indication of a fluid leak coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that shortly afterwards, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. An unrelated warning light for the oxygen sensor was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed that there was no recall coverage or assistance available for the vehicle. The manufacturer referred the owner to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 181,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the engine started running rough. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with three inoperable fuel injectors. The contact was informed that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred approximately four years later. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the engine was running rough with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that fuel injector #5 needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred approximately 2 and a half years later. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where DTC: P04320 was retrieved, and the fuel injector on bank one that was previously replaced was not running at the right efficiency, and the catalyst for bank one was not operating as needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the fuel injector that was previously needed to be replaced was at 20% and did not need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired, but the failure reoccurred approximately 7 months later. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that all four injectors on bank one were inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,141.

ODI #11743919POWER TRAIN

My 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with a 6L80 transmission began experiencing transmission-related drivability issues at approximately 130,000 miles. The vehicle jerked on takeoff, had delayed/slow shifting, produced a whining noise, and later had intermittent shuddering/surging while driving. During service, metallic debris/shavings were found in the transmission fluid. The transmission ultimately required replacement at my expense. I am aware of GM Technical Service Bulletin 20-NA-142, “Shudder/Surging While Driving,” which includes 2015–2022 Chevrolet Tahoe models equipped with MYC/MYD transmissions and discusses conditions that may be identified as torque converter shudder. My vehicle’s 6L80 transmission corresponds with GM RPO MYC, and the symptoms/repair findings appeared consistent with the bulletin. I am filing this complaint to document the transmission failure and related safety concern, as the jerking, delayed shifting, and shuddering affected normal vehicle operation.

ODI #11737642POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

My 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4WD with a 5.3L engine experienced sudden drivability issues related to confirmed AFM lifter failure, including severe engine misfires (P0300), rough idle, shaking at stoplights, and significant loss of power while driving uphill and under load. The vehicle has approximately 140,000 miles and has been consistently maintained through Chevrolet dealerships. The condition has been diagnosed by Premier Chevrolet of Carlsbad. The engine experienced loss of power during operation, creating a potential safety concern when accelerating or driving in traffic conditions requiring consistent engine power. This issue appears related to widely documented AFM lifter failures on GM 5.3L engines.

ODI #11733571STRUCTURE

The factory-applied clearcoat on my 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe is failing and delaminating. The clearcoat is peeling away from the base coat in sheets, exposing the underlying paint to the elements. This deterioration occurred without any external damage, collision repair, or environmental abuse. The vehicle has 76,000 miles and has been regularly washed and maintained throughout ownership. The affected areas include roof and door panels. The failure began as clouding and hazing of the clearcoat and has progressed to active peeling and flaking. This issue appears to be a widespread manufacturing defect. Multiple class action lawsuits have been filed against General Motors alleging defective paint and clearcoat application on 2015–2020 full-size SUVs produced at the Arlington Assembly Plant [XXX] et al. v. General Motors LLC, Case No. [XXX], and [XXX] et al. v. General Motors LLC). Thousands of owners of Tahoes, Suburbans, Yukons, and Escalades from these model years have reported identical clearcoat failure. The alleged root cause is improper bonding between the clearcoat and base coat during the factory paint process. Repair estimates for a full repaint range from $3,600 to over $10,000. General Motors has not issued a recall or technical service bulletin to address this known defect. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this matter and compel General Motors to issue a recall covering the cost of repair for all affected vehicles. ODI #11714998VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The vehicle’s infotainment touchscreen intermittently malfunctions due to apparent LCD ghosting or phantom touch inputs. The system registers commands without driver interaction, resulting in unpredictable and uncontrollable behavior. The failure presents as: •Ghost touches and phantom screen inputs •Uncommanded radio, media, and menu changes •Audible warning or confirmation beeps without driver input •Sudden and unexplained changes to the instrument cluster display •Periods of complete touchscreen failure •Loss of reliable control of audio, navigation, and vehicle settings These events occur while the vehicle is in motion and without warning. The driver is unable to stop or override the inputs, forcing attention away from the road in an attempt to correct or understand the malfunction. No warning lights are present prior to or during the failure. This condition creates a significant driver distraction and represents a safety hazard. The infotainment system is integrated into core vehicle functions, and its failure directly interferes with safe operation. In some instances, the system becomes unusable altogether. The issue is intermittent, difficult to reproduce on demand, and not resolved by restarting the vehicle. Based on the symptoms, this appears to be a hardware-related touchscreen or digitizer failure rather than user error. Given the prevalence of many similar reports involving GM infotainment systems exhibiting ghost touch behavior, this condition may represent a broader defect affecting this platform and model year range. Re: Touch Screen has a mind of its own - Page 4 - 2014 - 2019 Silverado & Sierra - GM-Trucks.com. I am requesting that NHTSA evaluate this issue as a potential safety defect due to loss of driver control, unintended system inputs, and ongoing driver distraction.

My car has a problem This will be the 3rd visit to the Chevy dealership and the 6th time in a garage. At this time, the original alternator that came with the Tahoe, was running high through December and replaced with a new alternator from Parts Geek. It was ok for a couple weeks and is running high again. You cannot test it from a cold start to get this reading. It must be ran for at least 20 min. After a certain amount of time the battery gauge will move to the highest point, the warning lights of ABs, traction control, stabilitrak, trailer brake light, battery light (first time on 1/27/2026 for battery light), loss of drivers assist on 1/26/2026, tire pressure light, car dies coming to a stop sign. I can’t turn it back on for at least a min. I’m stuck inside with zero power, can’t unlock the doors to get out to direct traffic, open windows or put on 4 ways so I don’t get smacked in the middle of the road. After that minute I heard a click (no key in ignition, not trying to start) and then the dash lights started coming back on again and I started it. The battery did not restart the time on the radio screen so I’m assuming I didn’t die fully. The radio screen always goes black first, then the heat goes in and out, the warning lights come on and it dies. Takes a minute or so to be able to start it again and the lights aren’t on anymore but will continue to do the same shit after awhile of driving and now daily. I’m afraid to drive it anywhere since almost getting stuck inside and plowed at an interaction. I have reached out to Chevy about this problem and was referred to take it back to the dealership again, and to reach back out as soon as it’s there to open a case on the issue.Ive had it, this has been ongoing for a year, and I have to keep paying for things that doesn’t fix the issue and it’s getting worse.

At 92,000 miles the lifters went out in vehicle. Repairs were done and replaced the gaskets, lifters and head bolts. After driving the vehicle another 12,000 miles lifters went out again. GM is aware of the issue and does not to take responsibility or make a recall on the issue. It’s a very known issue with the 5.3L engine in cylinder 1 to have a lifter failure.

There was a recall in 2019 (NHTSA Recall No. 19V645000) on certain GM vehicles for vacuum pump failure, which could affect braking and engine performance. The fix usually involved reprogramming the ECM to improve how the brake assist system operates - not necessarily replacing the vacuum pump unless it had already failed. My local dealership did the reprogramming but in 2025 the vacuum pump totally failed and left my vehicle stranded on the interstate. I had to have towed to a mechanic shop and the inside of the pump had broken into 3 pieces. So I had to have the vacuum pump replaced. During this time my car did not have brakes and put me and surrounding vehicles in a very dangerous situation. The mechanic gave me the broken part to show the dealership. The dealership said there isn’t anything they can do for assistance as I am out of warranty. There was a message that came up that said to service the braking system right before they stopped working.

The transmission dropped 2 thousand miles over my warranty at 102k miles. I was taking my son to see his surgeon and the car started jerking and making noises in the middle of a busy intersection. We almost got hit several times trying to get it to the side of the road for safety. I had to pay almost $1800 to get it towed home (we were in Peoria about 150 miles from home to see his doctor). There were no indications the transmission was going out and never should have at that mileage. I always do regular maintenance and keep all my receipts. I then paid 6k out of pocket to have it replaced with a better transmission since I learned GM put a bad transmission in the Tahoe I have (I was told I missed the time limit to have it fixed on their dime). Then 6 weeks later a fuel injector and the lifters failed due to the active fuel management. No one was hurt thankfully because I was just leaving home to go to work when I noticed the tapping sound and had my mechanic come look at it. Him and 2 other mechanics confirmed it was the lifters. I had already borrowed money to replace the transmission and can’t afford the $12k quote to fix it. Now it has been sitting in my driveway for almost a year unable to be driven. It is however causing me severe depression. I’m borrowing my son’s car while paying almost $700 monthly on a Tahoe I can’t even drive. I was even more sad when I found out there’s thousands of people with the same issue. GM should be ashamed of themselves!

The system that I believe to be failing has to do with electrical components of the 2017 Chevy Tahoe. It has completely lost all power two times while driving this vehicle. In both instances, mine & my children's lives were at risk including those who could have hit us. If anyone had been behind me as I was turning and the car shut off mid turn, it's possible we could have been hit by a vehicle(s) going 50+ mph. It's available to you to be inspected if needed. The vehicle has been evaluated by a mechanic who says he cannot find any specific 'problem' but did have to turn off multiple error codes. The chevy dealership thinks it may have to do with the remote start antenna. This has not been reproduced by a dealer or service center but it has been reproduced by myself when I attempted to drive the car again after the error codes were turned off. I also have confirmation of this happening to another person who owns a 2017 suburban and after servicing the car they continue to have issues. They were entering onto a highway on the on ramp and their car completely lost power and stopped- I would hate to see what could have happened if this was on the highway itself as it could have had the potential of lives being lost. The only warning messages I have seen had to do with servicing the remote start, which has never worked for us despite having it worked on prior to purchasing the vehicle. There were messages about stabilitrack the first day this incident occurred but not the second time that it occurred. Both times the car will turn back on after about 5 minutes but it's as if the cars system was completely reset (clock at 12, radio setting default, etc). The fact that I know of one person with a 2017 Chevy that this has also happened to, I believe an immediate recall should be initiated as I will not be driving this vehicle until there is an answer to save our lives and others on the road.

I just experienced an issue with my transmission, I was driving home from work in cruise control and started up a bridge when my vehicle seemed to disengage the clutch and start rapidly slowing down (I was going up the incline of the bridge) and the motor redlined trying to maintain speed. I immediately switched it back into regular drive mode and noticed that the engine was not engaging with the transmission. I then placed the column shift into the manual setting and dropped down to 3rd gear, the tahoe gave a really abrupt and hard impact on the transmission and I got it to reangage to continue up the incline. This happened more than a dozen times in the remaining 15 miles to my home, both in and out of the manual setting. I did not attempt to go back to curise control. When I got home I turned the car off and checked the trans fluid level and saw nothing on the dipstick, I let it cool off and I have fluid past the "hot" mark and into the S curve of the stick. I was able to determine that my transmission was having a majority of its issues beyone 3rd gear. After doing some very quick research on Google it appears that I'm not the only one having transmission issues, primarily with 3rd and 4th gear of this year make and model. Is this something that is being investigated? My vehicle has 103k miles and is planned for a fluid change in the next couple of weeks (transmission, transfer case, and rear differential), per the O&M book that came with the vehicle. This just happened today and I have not had an opportunity to reach out to the dealership to question them about it. There were no warning indicators or error messages during the drive or during the time this occurred. All recall notices have been repaired on the tahoe to date, and I have kept up with the other fluid changes and other misc o&m recommendations. Please, any feedback would be very appreciated as this is my primary and safest vehicle to transport my kids.

Once again we were told we just needed to drive it so it cold learn our driving habits. It is unsafe to drive as my husband drove it 4 miles to the grocery store and still at the traffic light he is pressing the gas to go and the vehicle would not move/go forward. He quickly had to put his flasher on and put the vehicle in park to keep from being hit from behind. He was finally able to get the vehicle to move and got home. The vehicle shifts so hard that it feels like you have been hit from behind by another car. GM keeps telling me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle but it is not safe to drive when you dont know if the transmission is gonna go out while you are going 70 mph down the interstate or get rearended becasue yourr vehicle doesn't move when the light turns green.

When pulling out of my driveway my gas pedal foot became stuck on the gas pedal. I could not remove my foot from the gas pedal. I immediately stepped on the brake pedal and then my Tahoe accelerated rapidly. I removed my foot from the brake pedal because any pressure on the brake just caused the car to accelerate faster. I then managed to wiggle my gas pedal foot from off of the gas pedal, it took a lot of effort. I was wearing normal men's shoes with no protrusions of any kind. I have recently seen in the news several similar occurrences including one that resulted in a fatality and others being injured as the car accelerated into an Apple store. In two of these cases that I've seen in the news the drivers have reported that their foot became stuck on the gas pedal and when they applied the brakes the car accelerated out of control. This is exactly what happened to me except i managed to get the car under control before I hit anything. My inspection of the Tahoe's pedals revealed that the two pedals are very close to each other and when applying the brakes the brake pedal comes down on the foot that is somehow stuck on the gas pedal. I believe the stuck accelerator foot was somehow trapped under the brake pedal. The pedals are too close together.

When driving at low speeds, the brakes are hard to engage which can result in crashing into objects/people without being able to safely stop. This happens in parking lots, stop and go traffic on the busy interstate and in drive-thrus. This can be dangerous for the driver/passengers and others outside the vehicle or objects. This is also a huge safety issue when driving down a steep incline at low speeds and having to pull out into traffic due to it not stopping appropriately. About 3 weeks ago my vehicle began shuddering during acceleration only at low speeds, and I had an appointment to regularly scheduled maintenance next week and planned to have the dealer look at it during that appointment. However, 3 days ago, at about 84,479 miles I was merging on to the highway and when I attempted to accelerate to highway speeds the tachometer jumped to 6000 rpm’s and became very sluggish when accelerating. It calmed down, but shortly after calming down, the tachometer spiked again to around 4500 rpm’s at 70mph, the check engine light came on and the vehicle temporarily stopped responding to any input except to raise the tachometer reading. After shifting into manual and back into automatic the transmission reengaged but would not allow for normal acceleration. The vehicle was able to be driven at approximately 30-35mph while the tachometer stayed consistently at around 3500-4000 rpm’s. The trouble codes given were P0700 and P0796, both relating to transmission indicating a problem with it.

On 5/5/2022, I was driving my 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. I pulled into traffic and then traffic briefly stopped moving. When I attempted to accelerate, my truck would not move. When I tried to accelerate, my truck began to roll backwards into the traffic behind me. My truck would only move in reverse. A passerby left his vehicle to assist me with backing up off the road as much as I could due to there being a ditch next to where I was stranded. My husband attempted to back the truck out of the road completely but the truck then slid closer to the drainage ditch. Roadside assistance had to be called and my truck had to be winched out and towed to my home on a flatbed. There were no warning signs prior to this incident. There were no warning lamps, no messages, no unusual smells or sounds nor did it drive differently. The closest GM dealership was unable to assess my truck due to them being backlogged and not having any available appointments. The truck was taken to two separate mechanics that stated that I need a new transmission. One was able to do a diagnostic and stated that the code for speed sensor failure read after the 2nd attempt. When the truck was taken there for repair the speed sensor did not read but instead the main control valve body was the fault code. The repair was completed and two days later the truck would not shift between gears. I had to take my truck to another GM dealer 30 minutes away. They diagnosed my truck and stated that fault code for an irregularity in shift solenoid B showed and that there was metal shavings in the transmission fluid. I also have Onstar diagnostic checks that reported no transmission issues on 04/14/22 and 05/16/22 that there were no transmission issues as well. Now Gm is refusing to address my issues because of the mileage being over the warranty. I could have been seriously injured because my vehicle stopped in traffic with absolutely no warning signs.

Continued to be be slow accelerating, changing my driving patterns to where I was not turning left unless with a turn light, or driving out of my way to make right turns ( to go Left). After a week (and calling shops) it had to be looked at and diagnosed. Took to transmission shop, Rebuilt was offered for quicker turn around, they could start ASAP. Their comment was we see a lot of this model and keep enough parts for this Tahoe to start. Also noted when dropped off 2 other models of this generation Tahoe were in the shop. And a GMC Sierra around the same period (assuming same Transmission here). Test Drive with Manager, they repair a lot of Chevy Tahoes and suburbans, and Nissans. Those keep them in business. Sister in law was there to get her Nissan Transmission Rebuilt about 3 months prior. (No Toyotas in the shop or Parking lot) I wish I had visited a Transmission shop before looking for new cars, great insight to prevent expensive repairs. After repair last week all is right (as expected when accelerating )This should be a recall at point or at least extend the warranty on the drivetrain and repairs. 1) "Service Brake Assist" sometimes appears on the dashboard when I start my vehicle. When this occurs, the brake pedal is extremely difficult to push, and increasing stopping distance is required because the vaccuum level drops. 2) Since the Electronic Brake Control Module resets within the vehicle's computer when the vehicle is turned off/back on again, the dealership cannot duplicate the problem; as it does not happen all the time. 3) There is an active recall no. 19V645000; Recall date: September 6, 2019; on the make and model year of my vehicle - 2017 Chevy Tahoe - for this exact issue; however, my specific VIN does not have any recalls tied to it. If you can please add my VIN to the same issue happening with recall no. 19V645000, I would appreciate it. 4) I contacted GM, and all they kept telling me is my vehicle does not have a recall tied to my specific VIN; however, my 2017 Chevy Tahoe is exihibiting the exact same symptoms as that which is listed in recall no. 19V645000. The solution is for the dealership to reset the Electronic Brake Control Module; however, they will not do so because they cannot replicate the issue and my VIN is not coming up on the recall list for my vehicle. 5) In the recall notice, it states that GM "has not yet provided a notification schedule", so if you can possibly let me know if my vehicle will be recalled for this issue, I would appreciate it since not having acceptable brakes to the vaccuum level drop is a safety issue. Thanks for your time! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

After finding this out, I found that NHTSA along with GM issued a Service Bulletin for this problem. (Bulletin No: 08-03-10-006G). I called GM corporate and put together a case number then took it to a GM dealer for verification. Upon inspection, it was found that all four wheels were severely corroded and needed replacing. I was informed that GM is only giving a 20% assistance on the replacements with $3,800 out of my pocket. I do not agree. This should not just apply to a 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. This is a known defective product from GM and should be replaced with no out of pocket expense to me. This should not be considered normal wear and tear. Furthermore, with the possibility of tire pressure loss, this could cause an accident that could harm my family and potentially others.

IN SEPTEMBER OF 2019, GMC ISSUED A RECALL FOR SEVERAL GMC VEHICLES REGARDING "SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM". AS SUCH, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP PER THE INSTRUCTIONS ISSUED BY GMC. HOWEVER, SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE OUT OF A CROWED PARKING LOT, THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. PLACING THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL ALONG PLUS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WAS REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE WAS AN EXTREMELY CLOSE CALL TO THE SAFETY OF THE SURROUNDING BYSTANDERS IN THE PARKING LOT. UPON DISCUSSIONS WITH BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND GMC, IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE CURRENT RECALL ONLY REPROGRAMS THE COMPONENTS (REFERENCE THE LETTER ISSUED BY GMC AND THE NHTSA'S WEB SITE FOR THIS RECALL). IT WAS FURTHER COMMENTED BY BOTH THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP AND CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GMC, THAT THIS WILL NOT ADDRESS ALL VEHICLES IDENTIFIED IN THIS RECALL, MEANING MORE ACTION MAY BE REQUIRED TO FIX THE UNDERLINING ISSUE. IN THIS CASE, SEVERAL COMPONENTS WERE NEEDED TO BE PHYSICAL REPLACED, NAMELY THE VACUUM PUMP. IN ADDITION, IT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED BY BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND GMC THAT A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF THESE VEHICLES IDENTIFIED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL WILL EXPERIENCE SIMILAR ISSUES (BRAKES FAILING TO STOP THE VEHICLE). DURING THE CALL TO GMC CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE (866.790.5600), THE SENIOR MANAGER REFUSED TO TAKE THE ADVICE TO INFORM ALL CUSTOMERS/CONSUMERS OF THIS DANGEROUS ONGOING RISK. EVEN THOUGH IT'S A KNOWN FAILURE, GMC HAS YET TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL NOTIFICATION TO CONSUMERS THAT THE CURRENT RECALL MAY FAIL TO ADDRESS THE UNDERLINING SAFETY FAILURE TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. GMC SHOULD ISSUE A NEW RECALL TO ADVICE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PHYSICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VACUUM BRAKE ASSISTANCE SYSTEM BY ALL EFFECTED VEHICLES IMMEDIATELY. OTHERWISE, THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE PARTS UNLESS THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCES AN ACTUAL FAILURE.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHECK OTHER LEVELS ASIDE FROM THE WINDSHIELD FLUID SO I WILL BE FORCED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. WHILE I WAS UNDER MY TRUCK I NOTICED HOW THERE WAS A LOT OF RUSTED PARTS. THE (IF I AM CORRECT) EXHAUST HOUSING LOOKED NEARLY BURNED AND THE PRODUCT STICKER THAT IS ON THERE IS 100% BITES. AS IF SOMEONE PUT A LIGHTER TO IT. NOT SURE WHAT ALL THE GUNK IS THAT IS CAKED ON EVERYTHING BELOW THE TRUCK BUT IT CAN'T BE A GOOD THING FOR SURE. ALSO, I FOUND A BOLT WEDGED BETWEEN AN AREA. WHY IS THERE A BOLT AND WHERE DID IT COME FROM? DOES THIS MEAN I HAVE MISSING PARTS ON MY ENGINE OR ANYWHERE ELSE? MY TRUCK RUNS SO HOT BUT NO LIGHTS HAVE COME ON. THIS EVENING AFTER SEEING WHAT I DID MADE ME FEAR THE THOUGHT OF DRIVING MY TRUCK THAT I PAY A HEFTY PAYMENT ON. IT HAS 12,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE HAD IT ONE YEAR AND AWAYS GET MY SERVICES DONE ON TIME WITH OIL CHANGES AND SO FORTH. I SHOULDN'T BE HAVING THIS ISSUE OR BETTER YET ISSUES. WHO'S GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. AND HO LONG BEFORE SOMEONE RECALLS MY TRUCK FOR THIS ISSUE !?

ODI #11010049ENGINE

ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 12, 2017, I SIGNED A LEASE FOR A BRAND-NEW 2017 CHEVROLET TAHOE LS AT ED BOZARTH CHEVROLET IN LAS VEGAS NV. THREE DAYS LATER AS I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE MAIN STREETS MY VEHICLE KEPT HESITATING AND JUMPING AS I WOULD HAVE TO STOP IN TRAFFIC THEN MOVE AGAIN WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS. THEN AS I WAS WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN TRAFFIC, MY VEHICLE STALLED THEN ALLOWED ME TO GO. THEN SUDDENLY MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I THEN RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM THE ONSTAR NOTIFICATION STATING THE DIAGNOSTIC DETECTED AN ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE AND MY TRANSMISSION SYSTEM. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN MONDAY 07/17/17 MORNING AT 11 AM. THE SERVICE MAN INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SOME OF THE BRAND-NEW VEHICLES BY THE DEALERSHIP AND GENERAL MOTORS BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE HEAT IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL IN PLACE FOR GENERAL MOTORS AND A LETTER WAS ISSUED DATED JUNE 30, 2017 THAT HE HAD TO PROVIDE TO ME BECAUSE THERE WAS NO SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. HE LET ME THAT GENERAL MOTORS HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO FIX ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT. I ASKED WHY WAS THIS NOT DISCLOSE TO ME BEFORE LEASING ME THE VEHICLE IF THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE TO ALLOW ME THE CHOICE TO DECIDE IF THIS WAS SOMETHING I COULD TOLERATE. THE SALES REP NOR THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WERE ABLE TO ANSWER THAT QUESTION. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE GENERAL MANAGER OF ED BOZARTH CHEVROLET AND WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD NEED TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY, JULY 24ONCE HE RETURNS FROM VACATION. I LET THE SALES REP KNOW THAT I WAS UNHAPPY, I WAS DECEIVED AND I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE THE DATED COPY OF THE LETTER #PIP5507 STALLING - HESITATION, I HAVE THE FIRST DIAGNOSTIC EMAIL STATING THE VEHICLE WAS IN PERFECT CONDITION, AND I HAVE THE DIAGNOSTIC EMAIL FROM ON STAR STATING THAT THE VEHICLE IS HAVING ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION DEFECTS

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 175 total NHTSA complaints filed over 10 years, with the worst year being 2023 (26 complaints, including 1 crash report).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 89/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

The recalls (red dashed lines) followed the first complaints by 2 years — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.

Red dots on the amber line flag 3 years (2021, 2022, 2023) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.

2 known programs match this vehicle — verify current eligibility with dealer using your VIN

ACTIVESPECIAL COVERAGEN202338470
GM AFM/DoD Lifter Special Coverage
Engine – Active Fuel Management Lifters (5.3L / 6.2L V8)
COVERAGE:10 years / 150,000 miles from original sale date

Active Fuel Management (AFM) lifters on 5.3L EcoTec3 and 6.2L V8 engines collapse prematurely, causing a metallic ticking noise, oil consumption, and potential engine damage. GM issued Special Coverage #N202338470 and related programs for affected vehicles.

HOW TO CLAIM: Visit any authorized Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, or Cadillac dealer. Provide your VIN — the dealer will confirm coverage via GM's warranty system. Repair includes lifter replacement and sometimes oil consumption correction.
VERIFY WITH DEALERSPECIAL COVERAGEPIP5353
GM 8-Speed Transmission Shudder Special Coverage
Transmission – 8L90 / 8L45 8-Speed Automatic
COVERAGE:7 years / 100,000 miles from original sale date

8-speed automatic transmissions (8L90 and 8L45) exhibit a shuddering or shaking sensation during light acceleration, especially at highway speeds. GM issued multiple TSBs and extended coverage programs. The fix involves a fluid exchange with a revised fluid formulation and, in persistent cases, torque converter replacement.

HOW TO CLAIM: Contact your GM dealer with your VIN. Multiple TSBs address this (PIP5353, PIP5555, etc.). If the fluid exchange does not resolve the shudder, the torque converter should be replaced under warranty.

Coverage eligibility depends on your VIN, original sale date, and current mileage. Always verify with an authorized dealer or manufacturer customer service — programs may have been updated since this database was compiled.

Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist

Tailored for the 2017 CHEVROLET Tahoe — specific failure modes your mechanic must check, not a generic list

⚠ 1 critical inspection item must be resolved before purchase. Do not skip these checks.
CRITICAL
Pull valve covers and inspect AFM lifters for collapsed roller or flat spots
GM 5.3L AFM lifters are the #1 failure on this model. A mechanic must physically inspect lifters or do a cylinder deactivation test drive. Ticking at idle = early-stage failure. Repair: $2,000–$4,200.
HIGH
Connect OBD-II scanner — check for P0300 misfire, P06DD oil pressure codes, or AFM-related codes
These codes appear before audible lifter noise. Ask the seller for any stored codes — a cleared code history is a red flag.
HIGH
Inspect for abs issue detected — ask for repair records
Loss of brake assist and ABS in emergency — can significantly extend stopping distances
