Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.

On XXX my Acadia started flashing dash lights and messages and had significantly reduced engine power and power steering. This caused it to come near to a stop in the middle of the [XXX] eastbound span. There is no area to pull over so I limped the car the rest of the way at 20 mph with hazards on. Vehicle was leaking oil and had camshaft trouble codes. I took it to a mechanic and was told it should go to a GM dealer because it needed major engine work. The dealer replaced the oil pan and other things. The car was returned to me only to have to go immediately back for the same camshaft trouble code. The car was repaired and again returned to me only for it to start leaking a significant amount of oil. The car went back to the shop (about 1 week after picking it up) and was diagnosed with a fault crankshaft seal. This was covered by GM because the mechanic had just replaced the crankshaft seal during the first visit. The car was returned to me, again, and is currently leaking oil again from what appears to be the crankshaft. If it is the crankshaft seal, this will be the 4th visit in 2 months, 3 directly involving the crankshaft area. The back windshield randomly made a loud pop out of nowhere and completely shattered while I was driving in my car with 2 people in the backseat. This put everybody safety at risk bc the glass popped and shattered into the vehicle. There were no objects thrown at the vehicle and nothing hit the back window at that time.
I am reporting three safety-related incidents involving a 2023 GMC Acadia SLE purchased XXX. 1. XXX – Washer Pump: Since purchase, the windshield washer pump activated but no fluid sprayed. The issue was reported at purchase. During repairs on December 5, we were told the pump had smoked and nearly caught fire. Warranty records list a washer pump repair costing $474.81. 2. XXX – Severe Shaking and Loss of Power: The vehicle developed severe shaking, reduced power, and a flashing check-engine light. It could only travel about 25 mph and had to be towed to a dealership. Warranty records list a camshaft position actuator repair costing $516.36. 3. XXX – Unexpected Shutdown: While driving toward [XXX], the vehicle shut off without warning at a traffic light. Multiple warning lights illuminated, and the emergency parking brake activated. The driver disengaged the brake and moved the vehicle to a nearby parking lot. These separate incidents raise serious concerns about the vehicle's safety and reliability, including potential fire risk, loss of power, and unexpected shutdown while driving. The vehicle had approximately 47,490 miles at purchase and now has approximately 79,000 miles. I request that NHTSA document these incidents and determine whether they indicate a potential safety defect or warrant further investigation. Complete diagnostic reports and repair orders are not currently available. I can provide additional information if needed. The repeated failures create concerns about the vehicle's ability to operate safely and reliably. An unexpected shutdown in traffic could cause a collision or leave the vehicle in a dangerous position. I request that these incidents be considered together when evaluating whether further investigation is warranted. These incidents occurred on separate dates and involved different vehicle systems. I am concerned that additional failures could occur without warning. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My 2023 GMC Acadia has a toe link issue in the rear suspension. This is according to the GMC Service Department in Marquette MI. Is this a possible safety issue, I really don't know. It does make a horrible clunking sound when I steer sharply which vibrates the car. So I definitely believe this does affect the steering. No question I will have to get this fixed ASAP.
Vehicle Information: 2023 GMC Acadia VIN: [XXX] Description of Safety Defect: While operating the vehicle, a sudden and total loss of propulsion occurred without warning. The transmission completely disengaged from the drive gears while the vehicle was in motion. When depressing the gas pedal, the engine freely revved up to approximately 3,000 RPM, but no power or torque was transferred to the wheels, leaving the vehicle entirely stranded and unable to move. This severe mechanical failure matches the exact symptoms, hazards, and mechanical behavior detailed in NHTSA Campaign Number 23V172000 (General Motors Safety Recall N222389310) regarding a dimensionally incorrect transmission sun gear that causes driver-side half-shaft separation. My specific VIN is currently excluded from the active recall population, despite experiencing the identical manufacturing defect and catastrophic loss of motive power. This creates a severe highway safety hazard and a rolling/rollaway risk. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate an expansion of the recall population for the 2023 GMC Acadia to include this vehicle. While driving my 2023 GMC Acadia, I experienced intermittent abnormal brake pedal behavior. When applying the brakes normally, the pedal would travel partway and then suddenly encounter resistance/catch accompanied by a click, causing the vehicle to brake abruptly and unexpectedly. The vehicle remained straight, but the braking action was significantly harder than intended. This problem has created a serious safety concern. On one occasion, the unexpected braking behavior nearly resulted in my vehicle being rear-ended. I had the vehicle inspected at a GMC dealership, as well as by the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from. The problem was initially intermittent and was not reproduced during the first two inspections. I recorded a video of the braking behavior to document the issue. The vehicle has now been evaluated by GMC for a second time, which states that a failure has been diagnosed and that the vehicle requires replacement of GM part number 85718957. The estimated total repair cost is approximately $3,030. I contacted General Motors regarding assistance with the repair, but GM declined to provide goodwill assistance despite this sounding like a broader issue. I am concerned that this may represent a safety defect involving the vehicle's braking system and/or brake assist system. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA has a record of the failure and can consider it along with other reports involving similar braking-system issues.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway at 2-3 MPH, the brake pedal became firm for 3–5 seconds. The contact was able to depress the brake pedal after several attempts. The messages “Low Engine Power” and "Service ESC" were momentarily displayed after the failure. The vehicle was shifted into park(P), and the check engine and traction control warning lights illuminated. The check engine warning light remained illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle at the residence and retrieved DTC: C05CC. The dealer was notified of the failure via a voicemail message. The failure mileage was 80,606.
The car abruptly died in motion. Backing up it died and locked itself in park. I had no way to move it out of the road. There were no warning lights nor did the car stutter or seem any different. I was also nightime making me invisible to other drivers. There was no way to shift the car from park to neutral to get it out of the road. After the incident Onstar sent an email with an error code P023F. The fuel module. I realized the 2021-2022 were under recall but not the 2023 i have. I purchased my 2023 in 2022 it likley was fitted with same modules that were under recall. I loved this car but that was such a frigntening ordeal I will no longer have it nor will i Purchase a GM product. I was told by the dealer sales manager that it wasn't under warranty and roadside assistance would not cover towing nor would the dealer cover repair. I reach out to another dealer and got a totally different answer. They fixed it but could not gurantee or actually even be convincing that it was a fix. I wan't other owners to be more aware of this issue to avoid tragedy. I do realize things tear up. But, this was totally preventable knowing the issue was never corrected.
Oil leaks from the timing cover on the top and bottom.
The rear stationary/fixed sunroof glass spontaneously shattered while i was driving. I heard a loud pop, after i parked i checked the car to see what happened and found a shattered sunroof. There was no impact or known object that struck the glass.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after further inspection, the contact became aware that the second-row middle seat belt buckle failed to latch securely into the seat belt buckle and failed to remain securely locked. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
I find the location of the lower gear shifters + and - to be physically far away from a driver's normal reach, making a driving hazard. If you want to change gears as is typical in mountain driving in steep descents, the driver has to lean awkwardly away from all mirrors and standard driving position making it a potentially hazardous situation for the driver and occupants to be in. It has nothing to do with comfort, but rather normal functionality, keeping the driver and their attention unadjusted on the road, all surroundings with minimal, if any changes to their physical posture while in the drivers seat. The location of the gear shifters are in a totally unorthodox location, nearer to the passenger, rather than the driver.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle lost motive power in low gears while accelerating. There was a slight shudder. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was shuddering and shaking every 30 seconds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where unknown repairs were conducted under the EVAP warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the initial failure. The dealer test drove the vehicle but did not experience a failure. The failure recurred after leaving the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Vehicle would not run due to a failed fuel pump control module. With a non-running engine, the transmission could NOT be placed into Neutral to be able to movie vehicle out of the road. Needed tow truck to move vehicle. This condition placed many people at risk as the vehicle could not be moved out of the way until a tow truck arrived.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled, and the engine lost automotive power. The vehicle was able to restart. During a second failure, the vehicle lost automotive power and stalled in the middle of the highway, and the vehicle was unable to restart. An alert message was sent by OnStar reporting a transmission or engine failure and advised that the vehicle needed immediate service. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a fuel pump module failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,749
I was driving on the highway, and the sunroof was closed and the cloth screen that would allow or not allow sun to come through was also closed. Then out of nowhere there was this explosion sound which scared me so much, I almost wrecked the car and at first, I thought maybe someone shot at my car and shot one of my windows but as I got to the side of the road I realized that none of my windows in the car had been shot and that it was the sunroof and I noticed that cause pieces of glass came into the car from the sides of the cloth barrier. This happened so fast and was so loud that it almost caused me to hit the other car in the lane to the left of me on the highway. Thank goodness I was able to react fast and pull the car back into my lane. I contacted the dealership and they indicated that they had not heard about this before and that I would need to talk with the service department but that it is closed now and not something that would typically fall under warranty. I did check online and see that this is a known issue for this vehicle so I don't understand why it would not be fixed cause it is going to hurt someone at some point. I am trying to get someone to look at it to get it fixed. There was no warning of anything. It just exploded all of the sudden and glass was all over.

My 2023 GMC Acadia consistently makes a sound at lower speeds when it is changing gears. For example, accelerating or accelerating for stoplights. The sound is kind of a ka clunk. The technician can find nothing and does hear the sound when we go for a test ride. I am worried that the sound indicates a transmission problem. The VIN search does not show a recall for my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that with the stop/start feature activated and while attempting to park the vehicle, the accelerator pedal was slightly pressed in order to slowly move the vehicle forward. The vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and drove forward, over a curb, and crashed into a tree. During the crash, the front end of the vehicle sustained severe damage, but no air bags deployed. No injuries were reported, and no police report was taken. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact indicated the failure had occurred on multiple occasions. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 5,665.
Temperature gauge dropped to zero or no reading, message displayed on screen "Steering Assist Reduced, Drive with Care", continued to drive speed limit, when parked fan runs after car is shut off, in a few days the temperature gauge started working again, then the cycle repeats about once every 2 weeks for a couple months before engine light came on last week & when checked at a local parts place was told temperature sensor malfunction. My 2023 GMC Acadia experienced a complete electrical system failure while driving on an interstate highway. During the incident, the vehicle lost all electrical power, including hazard lights and steering assistance, and could not be shifted into neutral. The vehicle became immobile in active traffic and required police-ordered towing due to safety risk. This incident was the second alternator failure within six months. The second failure involved a GM-installed replacement alternator that failed prematurely. Both incidents required towing, and the second created a significant roadway safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for maintenance, and the tech informed the dealer that the passenger’s side rear suspension toe link needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who confirmed that the passenger’s side rear toe link needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to Manufacturer's recall number: N222364330; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,101.
While driving under normal conditions, the vehicle experienced a sudden, violent deceleration. The emergency braking and collision avoidance systems activated spontaneously, as if the vehicle had struck or was about to strike an object. There was no obstacle, impact, or external threat present. This uncommanded braking caused significant physical stress and injury to the occupants. Critically, multiple safety systems failed during the event: The seat belts did not lock, failing to restrain the occupants; The airbags did not deploy, despite the severity of the deceleration; no warning indicators or diagnostic alerts were present before or after the incident. These failures directly contributed to physical injuries, including TBI (concussion, spinal trauma, etc.) which required emergency medical treatment and ongoing care.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, while attempting to depress the brake pedal, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the brakes. A dealer and independent mechanic were contacted. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the brake pads wear was uneven on the driver’s side and the driver’s side front caliper needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the result was not provided. The brake pads were replaced; however, the caliper was not yet replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after purchasing the vehicle, it was discovered that there was water and condensation inside the rear middle brake light assembly. The contact later discovered that during rainstorms, rainwater had leaked into the rear seating and hatch area of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who determined that the failure was due to a manufacturing structural error and the vehicle needed body work to be performed to correct the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,200.
I've had the engine stall before coming to a complete stop on several occasions. It also has been shifting hard and has had a delayed shift. The other day all of the lights to to screen and speedometer completely went out while driving then randomly came back on. That's the only speedometer I have is the digital screen.

I am experiencing a recurring P04FB diagnostic trouble code on my 2023 GMC Acadia, related to the crankcase pressure sensor. GM issued Bulletin No. PIP5841C, which attributes the issue to moisture buildup freezing inside the sensor. Their recommended fix is to remove the sensor, blow out any moisture, and reinstall it. However, this is not a permanent solution—the code returns within days, suggesting an inherent design flaw in the PCV system. Additionally, the replacement sensor (Part #12718935) is on national backorder, making it impossible to obtain. Many owners across multiple GM models using this engine (such as the Chevrolet Blazer and Cadillac XT4) are experiencing the same problem, yet GM has not provided a real solution. A properly designed PCV system should not allow excessive moisture to accumulate in the sensor. Instead of addressing the root cause, GM’s bulletin merely delays the issue by temporarily clearing the moisture. This approach does not prevent the problem from recurring, and it does not fix the underlying defect. If the sensor fails or provides inaccurate readings, it can affect emissions and engine performance. The fact that the replacement part is unavailable suggests GM may be restricting access to it, possibly because they know it is defective. This raises concerns that GM is quietly managing a widespread issue rather than issuing a formal recall or warranty extension. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this issue, as GM's current approach does not resolve the problem. Owners should not be forced to repeatedly clear moisture from a sensor that is failing due to a design flaw. If GM has internally identified a better solution, it should be made available to affected owners instead of delaying action with ineffective temporary fixes.
Whenever the vehicle's windshield washer is used the smell of the fluid enters the vehicle. This is particularly acute when the HVAC system is used at the same time. Since the label on the washer fluid container says the fluid is poisonous and the vapors are harmful and cannot be made nonpoisonous, I feel I should report this. I have had 4 GMC representatives confirm this is indeed happening. One rep was the Field Engineer Supervisor. All of this is documented as I have had this examined 4 times at the request of the GM customer service representative. Since late 2023/early 2024, I started to notice that my liftgate was open, while the Acadia, a lease with less than 15K miles, was parked in the driveway, off. At first, I thought it was a mistake on our part, that we had accidentally hit the button on the remote to open it or had forgotten it open. As time went on, the incidences continued and I realized it was happening on its own, while the car was off! When the Acadia was at the dealership this fall for a warrant repair (a pump that GM knew was problematic but only has alerts out about for now), I mentioned the liftgate. Thankfully, the problem happened at the dealership too so workers could witness it. It's a major safety issue and a public safety issue. When the pump repair was occurring, I got a text from the dealership that the problem with the liftgate was my fault, that how I clean the inside of the car had affected the mechanics and that I would be on the hook for over $300 in repairs. I had no way to prove otherwise and opted to instead disable the open function using the dial on the driver door set to off and it has not opened. Fast forward to last week and GM has a recall on GMC and other pickups where this kind of issue appears to happening to tailgates and it instantly felt similar. I believe GMC Acadia's have the same faulty wiring and I should not be on the hook for this repair but GM should fix the problem.
On 11/26/24 my wife was running errands in her vehicle when the power shut off and killed the car. She was in the left lane of a busy state highway. She was able to coast off the road slightly before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The dashboard said to press brake and start button, but the car would not start. The vehicle was also stuck in drive and would not switch to park, neutral, or any other gears. Police came and had to push her vehicle with theirs into a nearby park lot so a tow truck could pick it up. It is currently at a GM dealership waiting to be looked at.

We purchased a 2023 GMC Acadia AT4 new in October 2023. There is currently a little over 19,000 miles on the AT4. As of today November 13, 2024 the SUV has been to Blaise Alexanders, for at 3 times with same issues. Between the speeds of 50-65 there is a shudder, which in August 2024, the Chevy garage changed the fluid However, You can now feel this at any speed through out a trip. The SUV was return to the shop for increasingly worse shudder between 50-65 and a new issue of "hunting" between 25-35. There are times that the SUV does not want to propel forward (like the AT4 cannot get out of its own way) Also, when making a sharp right turn followed by an immediate left turn, onto uneven surface, the AT4 acts as though it is confused as to what gear it should be. The garage was then notified that I know have whining sound. At one point the garage had the AT4 for a week, the general manage drove it, did not feel anything. I then returned, took him for drive and he felt it. Left the car for him to take one of the "transmission" repair individuals out on a drive with the scan tool hooked up. Results of that test drive---"the car did it once, slightly but it was not picked up on the scan tool." Troy, from the service desk informed us they called GM to have their traveling engineer come look at the AT4 in a few day. GM's representative stop at the garage, DID NOT look at the car or speak to us, but has Troy tell us to keep driving the car. We are now in November and unfortunately, I got a little behind on bugging them due to the loss of my brother, father and step -father. But then again they have made no attempt at resolving this issue. This is frustrating. We are asking for any assistance that you can provide. I find it hard to believe that we are the only individuals that are experiencing these issues. I love my car. Why did they change the fluid if nothing was wrong the first time?? It has progressively been getting worse and winter is coming......
I purchased my 2023 Arcadia FFWD SLT a few months ago used with 11,000 miles. During the past few months I have noticed when reaching a speed of 45-60 mph the vehicle vibrates. I took the vehicle to the dealership on 10-10-24 and they said they could not find anything but they did not do an intensive problem search. I am concerned the problem may be related to a transmission recall dated 6/23. I did a search but no recalls came up my VIN but the vehicle has a major vibration when going 45-60 mph.
Today is Aug. 24, 2024. On [XXX], as my wife and I were preparing to leave on a vacation trip, our leased 2023 GMC Acadia would not move out of Low Gears moving forward. I soon discovered that it also would not shift into Reverse. When I took the vehicle to the GMC dealership near my home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the service advisor told me that the Check Engine light was on. The dealer has had the car since the date of this occurrence, on [XXX], giving me a smaller car as a loaner. My service advisor told me that he was able to get the car into Reverse. When I have called, he tells me they are trying to identify the problem. I see on the Internet that this model of vehicle has had multiple "transmission issues" and that there has been a Recall due to the transmission. I have not been alerted to a Recall. Yesterday, on Aug. 23, I received an Onstar Diagnostics Report saying there is a "diagnostics alert" requiring "immediate attention." I leased this vehicle in October 2023 from Todd Wenzel Buick GMC, where the vehicle now is located in the Service Department. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle drove for over 30mins before it detected that there was no remote in the vehicle.
Car's back up camera screen has gone black on several occasions. The vehicle has been in the repair shop , this is my fourth time trying to get it repaired. The screen goes black with a red circle and triangle on the screen when the car is put in reverse. This makes backing up difficult because of the vehicle size and blind spot . This problem developed in the first month of having the vehicle and again the vehicle is back in for repair the fourth time for the same issue I've had the vehicle in service for eleven months.
Struck a deer traveling at 65 mph & air bags did not deploy
While driving 55mph, I had to make a sudden stop due to a large animal in road now my engine lights is on and when I try to put it in to any gear it says the transmission is not in the correct position with a code PO700 (MIL) car will not go into any other gear unless I shut it off the car then start again.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in park, the brake was released, and the vehicle lunged forward and collided with a Rental Movie machine coming to a stop at a building. No safety features were activated. The air bags were deployed. The contact sustained leg, hand, stomach, breast, and chest injuries. Medical attention was sought. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after his wife had driven the vehicle approximately 75-80 MPH on the highway, and was attempting to turn into the driveway, the vehicle inadvertently shut off. A message indicating a transmission failure and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, the cause of the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer for four months. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 6,250.
Shortly after leasing the vehicle in December of 2022 I noticed the transmission would slip when accelerating. It also jumps when down shifting as I'm slowing down - as well as after place the car into drive. I did bring the vehicle back to GMC in early 2023 explaining the aforementioned. I was told that there was too much transmission fluid which was the causing the issues I was experiencing. They reduced the fluid levels and sent me on my way. Unfortunately their assessment and solution did not remedy the problem. I intend to bring the vehicle in again, but based on past experience, I will be told nothing is wrong. Lastly, I've done some research and it appears I'm not the only person experiencing the same issue. I'm hoping that reporting this issue will lead to an investigation of potential safety issues.
The contact’s daughter owned a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact stated the seats were previously repaired at the local dealer. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked unattended, the vehicle caught fire. The fire had extinguished on its own. There were no reported injuries, air bag deployment or police reports filed. The contact called the local dealer who referred her to the insurance company. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The insurance company informed her the failure was due to the electrical system and deemed it a total loss. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Acadia. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V172000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. Purchased Vehicle Oct.21 2022. In first week, vehicle left my wife stranded twice, and myself once. When error occurs, vehicle goes into limp home mode and cluster illuminates all lights, says serivce brakes, transmission, engine, fuel tank reads "E" (when is was just full), PRNDL buttons are flashing and will not allow park, does not respond to throttle inputs... only way to be not stranded as the vehicle will not restart is to disconnect battery or wait 15-20 minutes as the vehicle seems to incorrectly "heal" its errors and allow the engine to restart. I noticed this when the tow truck came to pick it up, and he "drove" it on to the flat bed. 45 Diagnostics showed up on the scan tool, all relating to CAN bus communication. My concerns are the following: 1. How can a 2023 vehicle with <400 miles leave some one stranded 3 times because of a CAN bus comm error? There is an electrical gremlin (likely from lack of quality control) causing to leave a customer to having to limp to the side of the highway. 2. Why is the error able to incorrectly "Heal" itself, ie. the fault reactions seem to debounce and allow engine to restart (as mentioned prior) after a certain amount of time. This only leads to potentially putting the customer back at risk as they just were. 3. GM dealer is yet to start troubleshooting, its been 2.5 weeks. Claim is that they "need a transmission guy to look at it since the codes causing the check engine light are transmission module". Although, the vehicle has approximately 45 active codes, relating to many different modules and all pointing to CAN bus error. The vehicle has an electrical issue, causing my wife to get stranded. first warning on cluster before being stranded : "Service: Transmission Now Unable to shift Soon. " What does this even mean???? this does not tell me, what the problem is, and what I should do about it. I am an experienced OBD Engineer from an auto OEM and this does not follow best practices. Please help.
Component Failure Cascade Risk
Known patterns where one defect leads to more severe downstream failures
▸ Complete transmission failure — repair costs $3,000–$8,000+; vehicle may become undriveable
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 50 total NHTSA complaints filed over 5 years, with the worst year being 2026 (22 complaints, including 1 crash report).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 86/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
The recall (red dashed line) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.
Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2024, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
