Vehicle: 2026 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss, 4WD Crew Cab. Delivered new 3/29/26. Beginning in May 2026, the vehicle developed a steering column defect: play in the steering wheel, a catch or jerking sensation while driving and turning (particularly at low speeds and on rougher residential/city roads), a structural popping noise, and an accompanying dashboard rattle. Dealership staff advised the vehicle was safe to drive despite the confirmed defect, and I continued operating the vehicle with my family for approximately two months while a replacement part was on backorder. The vehicle has been repaired three times for this identical defect: - 5/5/26–7/3/26: intermediate steering shaft replaced; defect returned - 8/17/26: upper and lower intermediate steering shaft joints replaced; defect returned - 9/7/26–10/7/26: intermediate steering shaft replaced again. Dealership staff told me directly this repair was untested and that I would be the first to determine whether it holds up long term. The repair order's own mileage log shows only 18 total miles driven for the entire 30-day visit, including the post-repair verification test drive. No independent manufacturer field inspection was conducted before the vehicle was released back to me. Since picking up the vehicle on 10/7/26, I have noticed new symptoms: the vehicle occasionally pulls to the left when braking, and the steering feels unusually tight at times, as though the power steering is not fully engaging. A loaner vehicle (also a Chevrolet Colorado) provided to me by the dealership during an earlier repair exhibited the identical steering catch and popping symptoms as my own vehicle, suggesting this may be a defect affecting the platform rather than an isolated issue with my individual vehicle. I am filing this report due to the ongoing safety implications of a recurring, unresolved steering defect on a new vehicle, the manufacturer's acknowledgment that the most recent repair was unverified, and new symptoms
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH and approaching a traffic light, the contact heard a loud popping sound, and the sunroof suddenly shattered. The sunshade was closed at the time of the failure. The contact stated that glass started blowing from the sunroof. The sunroof glass was shattered in a mushroom-shaped pattern and was fractured outward. The contact purchased plastic from a hardware store to temporarily cover the opening. The vehicle was taken to a local Chevrolet dealer, where the dealer was verifying the warranty coverage. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 500.
The vehicle developed a rapid and moderate shudder followed by "Check Engine", "Service Traction Control", "Service ESC" messages and associated icons on the driver display. The shudder happened a second time within approximately 30 seconds and the engine lost power followed by "Reduced Power Warning" message. I engaged the emergency flashers and limped to the nearest side road. I had to stop on the road because of no shoulder. I waited there while assessing the situation and eventually was able to drive the short distance home. I disconnected the battery to reset the PCM. This action temporarily cleared the fault code and check engine light. The first dealer said it couldn't do anything without a fault code. A second dealer said it was unable to duplicate the malfunction. Two weeks later the vehicle began to shudder on a busy interstate, with the same warning lights and messages and had to pull off the interstate. It happened once more on the way home. The dealer duplicated the issue. It took them over 30 days with multiple repair attempts. The dealer replaced all four fuel injectors, fuel injector wiring harness, Engine Control Module (ECM), and wiring between the ECM and another connector. The dealer had to reach out to GM's Technical Assistance Team (TAC) to get it back on the road again. Approximately 8 weeks later, the vehicle began to shudder again, this time only while travelling up hills. There has not been any messages or warning lights associated with this event. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where is has been now for almost a week with no follow-up on the diagnosis or repair status. These events compromised safety and we were put at risk due to the sudden lack of power while in traffic, maintaining control of the vehicle while trying to understand the situation, and the possibility of other drivers adversely reacting to these events.
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a body shop, where it was discovered that the vehicle had misaligned body panels and a frame that was improperly manufactured. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,798.
My truck makes a very loud horrible noise when the fuel pump primes after the truck sits for a few hours it’s a clear flaw with the fuel pump and I’ve seen multiple people complain about this issue and there’s no fix for it.
Seats: Driver’s seat shifts forward when normal braking pressure is applied. Bottom cushion seems to be loose/shifting. Cause for major concern if emergency braking should be needed and seat does not restrain driver Steering: Steering wheel has vibrations when driving over normal aberrations/roughness on paved roads. Accompanied by rattles and mechanical noise. Extremely annoying Suspension: Front passenger side has loud clunk from time to time on certain speedbumps/off road. Low speeds 10-15mph. Vehicle Details: 2026 Colorado ZR2, Odometer: 3176
The steering shaft on my 2026 Colorado Trail Boss is faulty and needs to be replaced. There was no accident but feel like this could be a safety issue that needs to be addressed and reported.
I was driving went to stop brake petal went to the floor and the truck did not stop. So i put it in low gear and got the truck to stop. the truck is at the dealer they keep giving me the run around so i call gm and open a case there going to get back to me .Brake light,APS,Brake SystemFailure all lit up on dash and truck only had 134 mile.
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, the passenger’s side air bag warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken for tire maintenance, and the contact was informed that the air bag warning light should not be constantly illuminated. The dealer was contacted about the failure. The dealer diagnosed a failure with the restraint system and that the sensor on the passenger’s side was not operating properly, causing a failure with the passenger’s side air bags and seat belt. The contact stated that the part to repair the vehicle was no back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,952.
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH with the adaptive cruise control engaged, while the vehicle was approaching another vehicle from the rear, the brakes independently activated. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was advised to stop using the adaptive cruise control while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 8,664.
Component: Drivetrain, brake, and engine management systems repeatedly fail in a coordinated pattern, with multiple warning indicators activating simultaneously and sudden unintended deceleration occurring without warning. Vehicle available for inspection. Safety risk: Most recent failure occurred at highway speed with family including passengers in the vehicle. Without warning, the vehicle decelerated abruptly while multiple dashboard warnings activated at once. Sudden deceleration at highway speed creates immediate risk of rear-end collision from following traffic and loss of vehicle control. Prior dealer confirmation: Yes. Curry Chevrolet (Scarsdale, NY) has had the vehicle in service for the same defect category on multiple prior occasions, including stays of over a week on at least two visits. The dealer has not permanently resolved the issue — symptoms have now recurred at sixth time. An additional early service visit at the same dealer was not documented with a repair order; I retain contemporaneous text messages establishing that visit occurred. Other inspections: Inspected only by Curry Chevrolet to date. GM Customer Assistance engaged (Case #XXX). No police, insurance, or independent inspections. New case has been filed with GM, linked to the previous (Case #XXX).Next service visit will be at a different authorized Chevrolet dealer for an independent diagnostic. Warning indicators: Yes. In the most recent incident, multiple warning lamps and system alerts activated simultaneously at the moment of deceleration, with no advance warning. Prior incidents showed the same multi-system warning pattern, consistently without predictive indicators. Vehicle is a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado, VIN [XXX], delivered January 2026 with 2,209 miles on the odometer at delivery. Not sure if this is a safety issue at this point but there is a rattling noise around the steering column when you drive over any bumps and hoping this will not lead to any safety issues.
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while using the cruise control at 60 MPH, the vehicle began to accelerate. The contact was able to depress the brake pedal to avoid a crash. The cruise control was restarted and set to 50 MPH, and the vehicle accelerated again without warning. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 832.
Front passenger headlight assembly is defective with less than 200 miles on vehicle. The defect is allowing excessive condensation in assembly and fogging up headlight brightness and assuming will eventually cause bulbs to prematurely burn out. This in my opinion is a safety concern and issue . Also seems like there is a shortage of the defective headlight assembly.
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle started, however the battery became drained. No warning lights were illuminated. After the battery was drained, the doors failed to unlatch, and the contact was stuck inside the vehicle. The tow truck driver arrived and assisted the contact with exiting the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,800.

Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 18 total NHTSA complaints filed over 2 years, with the worst year being 2026 (15 complaints).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 88/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
Notably, despite 18 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.
