The Bottom Line
On the data, the Honda Civic is the safer used-car bet, winning 3 of 6 categories. It carries a 71/100 Reliability Index versus 48/100 for the Hyundai Elantra, and averages 1.3 recalls and 273.7 complaints per model year (vs 1.9 and 180.1).
