While driving the vehicle under normal conditions, a sudden electrical fire occurred, requiring immediate evacuation. The vehicle was pulled over safely and the driver exited before the fire escalated. The fire department responded and the vehicle was declared a total loss due to fire damage. The failure is believed to have originated from an electrical short involving the climate control/defroster system. The affected wiring and components were destroyed by the fire and are not available for inspection. The day prior to the fire, the fuse controlling both the climate control system and the instrument cluster blew twice when the defroster was activated. The fuse was replaced, and the defroster was not used again. At the time of the fire, the defroster systems was not operating. There were no warning lights or alerts immediately prior to the fire. The fire occurred while the vehicle was in motion, creating a serious safety risk to the occupant and surrounding traffic. The incident has not been reproduced or inspected by a dealer. The vehicle was inspected by the fire department. No manufacturer inspection has occurred.

I am currently Experiencing the same problem with my 2007 volvo Xc90 AWD. Every time, I fill up to 1/2 a tank or full , I start to smell the fumes inside the vehicle . I took it to get inspected , and the mechanic said the fuel pump assembly usually cracks and the vapor goes inside the cabin. I personally think this is not safe for us drivers or the passengers. living in Arizona with high temperatures usually all plastic have wear and tear , but On the fuel pump housing ? It's not where we want it.

IT THROUGH 3 CODES, 1. IMMOBILIZER, 2. ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND 3. CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE IT TOWED HOME. MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO RESEARCH WHAT COULD CAUSE THESE ISSUES. HE LOCATED A YOUTUBE VIDEO THAT WAS POSTED 2 YEARS AGO REGARDING THE ECM & CCM FUSES. THE MAN RECORDING THE VIDEO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS, AND FOUND THAT THE FUSE FOR THE TWO ITEMS HAVE BLOWN. MY HUSBAND THOUGHT MAYBE THAT MIGHT BE THE ISSUE. HE LOCATED THE FUSES AND FOUND THAT BOTH OF THEM WERE IN FACT BLOWN. HE REPLACED THEM BOTH WITH BRAND NEW FUZES AND THE CAR STARTED RIGHT NOW.. THE NEXT DAY, I DROVE TO WORK WITH NO ISSUES AND TO AND FROM LUNCH. ON MY WAY HOME, ABOUT 3 MILES FROM WORK, I WENT DOWN A SIDE STREET AS THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT AND TRAFFIC WAS BACKED UP. THE SIDE STREET HAD SPEED BUMPS. THE WENT OVER THE FIRST ONE WITH NO ISSUE, AND THE NEXT ONE IS ABOUT 100 - 200 FEET AFTER, AS SOON AS MY BACK TIRES WERE OVER THE 2ND BUMP, THE CAR SHUT IT SELF OFF AGAIN AND I WAS STUCK (MAY 6TH 2019). MY HUSBAND SHOWN MY WHERE THE FUZES WAS AND LEFT EXTRAS IN THE STORAGE AREA ON THE SAFE SIDE. AGAIN, BOTH WERE BLOWN. ONCE THEY WERE REPLACED FOR A 2ND TIME, CAR STARTED. NOW FAST FORWARD 5 MONTHS, THE ROAD FROM MY DADS HOUSE IS BEING REPAVED, AS YOU CAN IMAGE VERY BUMPY. I MADE IT OVER ALL THE BUMPS JUST FINE, BUT AS SOON AS I CROSSED OVER A MAJOR ROAD, THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF AGAIN... THIS TIME I DID NOT HAVE EXTRA FUZES, CALLED A TOW (OCTOBER 11 2019). WE WERE ABLE TO REPLACE THE FUZES AGAIN. NOW THE NEXT DAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE AGAIN, BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES (OCTOBER 12, 2019). AND NOW THE CAR SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY, AS I FEEL VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IT.

ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 06, 2019, OUR 2007 VOLVO XC-90 EXPERIENCED A STEERING LOCK FAILURE. THAT IS THE LOCK COULD NOT ADVANCE TO THE START POSITION AND CONSEQUENTLY LOCKED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE LOCK WOULD NOT ADVANCE. CONSEQUENTLY PERFORMED THE FOLLOWING: A) CONSULTED VOLVO OWNER'S MANUAL. THE MANUAL WAS SILENT ON THIS. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED NOSE FIRST IN OUR GARAGE, AGAIN CONSULTED THE VOLVO OWNER'S MANUAL TO FIND OUT HOW TO MANUALLY GET THE VOLVO OUT OF PARK. VOLVO'S MANUAL WAS SILENT ON THIS. B)CONTACTED NORTH TOWN VOLVO DEALER FOR ADVICE. RESPONSE WAS TO GET THE VEHICLE IN BY TOWING. NO ADVICE AS TO HOW TO DISENGAGE THE VOLVO'S PARK FEATURE. C)CONTACTED VOLVO'S ON LINE CHAT SERVICE AND RECEIVED THE SAME RESPONSE. NO HELP! GET THE CAR TOWED IN! D)CONTACTED IN COLLISION AND AUTO REPAIR. THEY SUGGESTED A 2006 YOU TUBE VIDEO SHOWING HOW TO DISENGAGE THE PARK FUNCTION. THIS WORKED AND THE VOLVO 2007 XC-90 WAS TOWED TO IN COLLISION AND AUTO REPAIR. IT TOOK THREE WEEKS TO REPAIR THE LOCK FOR THE PARTS HAD TO COME FROM GERMANY. PICTURES OF THE FAILED LOCK ASSEMBLY ARE ENCLOSED. AFTER THE LOCK REPAIR, IN COLLISION PERFORMED THE FOLLOWING: A)REPLACED RADIATOR: THE RADIATOR HAD A SMALL LEAK SINCE THE GET-GO. BROUGHT THE VOLVO IN SEVERAL TIMES TO NORTH TOWN VOLVO AND THEY COULD NOT FIND IT. DURING A VISIT TO THEM THE COOLANT WAS TOPPED OFF AT NO CHARGE AND I APPARENTLY OBSERVED, BUT IT WAS DENIED BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR, THE SERVICE ADVISOR DROPPING SOMETHING INTO THE COOLANT EXPANSION TANK. COMPARED TO THE NEW COOLANT AFTER RADIATOR REPLACEMENT, IT IS MUCH CLEARER WITHOUT THE DARKEN FLAKEY CONSISTENCY OF THE PREVIOUS COOLANT OF WHICH WAS LIKE THAT SINCE THE GET-GO. B)REPLACED HVAC BLOWER MOTOR DUE TO FAILURE. C)CLEANED UP DRIVER SIDE DOOR SECURITY CONTACTS SO THAT THE POWER DOOR LOCKS LOCK WHEN THE ALARM IS TOGGLED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 VOLVO XC90. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AND TIMING CONTROL MODULE FAILED. THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SENT A SIGNAL TO THE TIMING CONTROL MODULE, WHICH CAUSED AN ENGINE SEIZURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V563000 (VISIBILITY). THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 197,000.

ALSO HEARD THE BRAKE PADS (4 WHEEL DISK BRAKES) SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE SCRATCHING ON THE ROTORS. ALL INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET/NHTSA VEHICLE RECALL WEBSITE SAYS THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. BUT, FORD IS NOT WILLING TO RECALL THE VEHICLES BECAUSE IT REQUIRES A $5,300 HCU REPLACEMENT PART. MY SON NEEDS TO DRIVE VEHICLE FOR HIS JOB (UBER/LYFT). HELP!!? SAFETY ISSUE! FORD MOTOR COMPANY OR THE NHTSA CAN CONTACT ME AT ANY TIME TO HELP ME WITH FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PROCEED.

I CAME HOME AT LUNCH AND AFTER A COUPLE OF ATTEMPTS THE CAR DID START. I LEFT THE CAR RUNNING FOR A FEW MINUTES AFTER WHICH TIME SMOKE STARTING FILLING UP THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I LOOKED UNDER AND AROUND THE CAR BUT, THERE WAS NO OBVIOUS SOURCE OF A FIRE. I OPENED THE REAR HATCH AND SAW FIRE COMING FROM UNDER THE REAR JUMP SEATS. I IMMEDIATELY PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A VOLVO DEALERSHIP IN BRISTOL, TN. THE NEXT DAY I WENT TO THE DEALER IN BRISTOL AND EXAMINED THE CAR WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE FIRE HAD STARTED AROUND THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT IN THE REAR OF THE CAR UNDER THE BACK SEATS. AT THIS POINT I HAVE NOT HAD ANY RESPONSE FROM VOLVO AS TO THE CAUSE OF THEIR PLAN FOR REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THEIR IS SEVERE BURN DAMAGE TO THE REAR SEATS, FLOORING MATERIAL AND OBVIOUS SMOKE DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 VOLVO XC90. ON OCTOBER 7, 2007, THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER ACCIDENTALLY PULLED THE GEAR SHIFT WHILE CLIMBING INTO THE BACK SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AND THE KEYS WERE NOT IN THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE VEHICLE AND PLACE IT IN PARK WITHOUT A CRASH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING, SHE COULD STILL SHIFT THROUGH ALL THE GEARS WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALSO, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PLACED IN DRIVE, THE CONTACT CAN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. BILL CASEY, A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE VOLVO MANUFACTURER, WARNED HER THAT IF SHE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA, SHE BETTER HIRE AN ATTORNEY BECAUSE VOLVO WOULD NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. HE ALSO STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS POSSIBLY A LEMON AND, IF SHE DID NOT REPORT THE FAILURE TO NHTSA, VOLVO WOULD DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. THIS EVEN INCLUDES PROVIDING HER WITH A NEW VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAS A VIDEO TAPE OF THE GEAR FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,600. UPDATED 01/11/08. *LJ

IT WAS TRAILORED TO THE NEAREST VOLVO DEALERSHIP WHERE IT TOOK 3 WEEKS TO REPAIR , 1 WEEK TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM). THEY FOUND THAT THE VALVE SPRING" ON THE 2007 VOLVO XC90'S ENGINE HAD BROKEN, CAUSING THE CAR TO OPERATE ON ONLY 4 OF ITS 6 CYLINDERS. THIS CAR BARELY HAD 2500 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE CYLINDER HEAD OF MY BRAND NEW ENGINE HAD TO BE REPLACED, CERTAINLY COMPROMISING THE RESALE VALUE OF MY CAR, AND AFTER 3 WEEKS IN THE SHOP,AND $6000 WORTH OF REPAIRS INCLUDING A REBUILT ENGINE, VOLVO WILL NOT RECOMPENSATE ME (REPLACEMENT ENGINE, EXTENDED WARRANTY, ETC.).
