Vehicle Information: •Year, Make, Model: 2016 BMW 328i GT •VIN: Provide VIN •Mileage: Insert Mileage Description of the Problem: I am experiencing recurring drivetrain malfunctions and overheating issues with my 2016 BMW 328i GT, which is currently under a nationwide recall issued in August 2024. Despite having coolant in the system, the vehicle overheats and displays a “drivetrain malfunction” warning, forcing me to pull off the road and restart the car to temporarily clear the issue. Additionally, there appears to be a leak causing fluid to drip onto the belt and other components, further compromising the vehicle’s functionality and safety. My belt slips because of the leak and it has been severely deteriorated because of even after replacing it. The dealership has consistently advised me to repair this issue at my expense, quoting costs exceeding the value of the car. Only recently did I learn about the recall addressing this defect. The dealership has failed to provide timely solutions, leaving me without a drivable vehicle. Safety Concerns: These persistent issues pose serious safety risks. The drivetrain malfunction and overheating increase the likelihood of sudden breakdowns while driving, endangering myself and other road users. Pulling off unexpectedly also creates hazardous situations on highways or busy roads. Request for Action: I request that BMW resolve this recall promptly. If repairs cannot be completed within a reasonable timeframe, I demand compensation for my inability to use the vehicle, including reimbursement for expenses incurred during this period. Alternatively, BMW should provide me with a rental vehicle or replace my car with another comparable model free of defects. Failure to do so will prompt me to seek legal arbitration to recover damages and ensure accountability. (4) The vehicle has been inspected by a certified BMW mechanic. (5) There was no warning prior to failure. Description: While driving at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle shut down. I was told by a certified BMW mechanic that the high pressure fuel pump imploded, sending metal chards through the fuel injection line thereby disabling the vehicle entirely. In July 2023, my 2016 BMW 328i sedan with N26 engine began emitting a large plume of smoke for 15-30 seconds from the exhaust after a cold startup. I identified the following recalls which described the same situation as mine (SI B11 11 16 and SI B11 17 16) but was informed by the local BMW dealership my VIN was ineligible for both. In early October 2023, I brought my car to a local repair shop, where the mechanic confirmed the issue to be the oil feed line and replaced it with part # 11-42-8-678-840, removing original part # 11-42-8-626-652. The aforementioned recalls specify the smoke from the exhaust is caused by faulty oil feed lines or carbonization of the turbocharger sealing ring, both of which may be resolved by installing part # 11-42-8-678-840 that includes a check valve to prevent this issue moving forward. While my car was experiencing the same problem and required the same part # to resolve, it was classified as ineligible due to the very limited scope of the recalls, namely the production and model years of eligible cars (2011-2013). While my car was manufactured in January of 2016, it still received an inadequate oil feed line that did not contain the check valve. This is problematic as no recall was issued for my car thereafter once BMW identified this issue as early as October of 2016. I have since spoken with the parts manager at my local dealership as well as a case manager with BMW of North America and was informed no further assistance could be provided. I feel my car should have been included in a recall to replace the oil feed line was it did not receive one with a check valve upon production.

Need to recall as it is Common Knowledge among the BMW technicians that these vehicles are plagued with hazard of Parking / Emergency Break line clip breaking and for the line contacting the rotating drive shaft. The holding clip Mfg Part # 34406854898 breaks regularly ! the plastic parking brake retaining clip (BMW part # 34 40 6 854 898) deforms due to age/heat. The cable guide does not hold the cable in place anymore and Hazardously starts to rub against the rotating driveshaft, causing the Emergency parking lines which makes a noise that and sounds like coming from the center console. This is endangering the occupants, and also it is very costly replacement with the same plastic part again. I have referred to the owner's manual of my vehicle and it does not show me nor indicate how to get access to the trunk from the inside of the vehicle in an emergency situation. I've looked for a seat release latch handle and there is not one. I've researched and contacted BMW experts and they state normally it should have one, other times it may not... I've pulled the middle seat armrest down to expose the plastic access hatch and when I pulled it out of the way, it exposed a metal frame that was in the way and appeared it was part of the backseat metal frame. I've felt around, looked and mentioned this to experts, and they could not explain anything of the sorts other than "normally it should have one, other times it may not...". Ultimately, I find this extremely hazardous, because it is very misleading in the manual to offer a trunk cable release handle (in the trunk) but not a single way to get access to the trunk from the inside of the vehicle if an emergency/accident happened...

ENGINE REVVED UNCONTROLLABLY WITHOUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, I WAS FORCED TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE CAR BEHAVED NORMALLY ONCE THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED: I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING SPACE IN A PARKING LOT AT A VERY SLOW SPEED. MY FOOT WAS OFF THE GAS PEDAL AS I WAS BRAKING AND COMING TO A STOP. SUDDENLY (WITH FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE AND NOT THE GAS PEDAL) THE ENGINE REVVED TO A HIGH RPM WHICH LURCHED THE CAR FORWARD A BIT. SINCE I WAS ALREADY BRAKING, I WAS ABLE TO REACT QUICKLY AND PRESS DOWN EVEN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND KEPT IT IN PLACE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AND I SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE ENGINE STAYED REVVED AT VERY HIGH RPMS AS IF I WAS FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL, EVEN THOUGH I COULD LOOK DOWN AND CONFIRM THAT MY FOOT WAS ONLY ON THE BRAKE. AT THIS POINT I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES. I CHECKED THE FLOOR MAT AND CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS NOT OUT OF PLACE OR AFFECTING THE PEDALS IN ANY WAY. I THEN STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN AND THE CAR IDLED NORMALLY WITH NO ISSUES. I TESTED DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED AND PULLED INTO SEVERAL MORE PARKING SPOTS TO SEE IF THE ISSUE WOULD REOCCUR, BUT IT DID NOT. I DROVE HOME NORMALLY AND PARKED WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS, AND WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AS SOON A POSSIBLE.

10/07/18 DRIVING BACK FROM FLORIDA AN HOUR INTO MY RIDE ON A 90 DEGREE DAY, I HAD MY SENIOR GREAT DANE IN MY CAR RETURNING TO ATLANTA. BEING SUNDAY, NO-ONE COULD ADVISE ON A TEMPORARY SOLUTION, CALLED BMW SOS AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, THEY COULD DO NOTHING. MONDAY I CALLED THE SERVICE CENTER AND THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUE WAS, ESSENTIALLY FROZE UP AND THEY HAD A SOLUTION, A MANUAL OVERRIDE OF THE SOFTWARE. THANKFUL THEY HAD A SOLUTION BUT MORE CONCERNING, BMW IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AS I FOUND OUT ON MANY POSTS. THE CONCERNING PART, I HAVE NEVER TAKEN MY CAR ON A DRIVE LONGER THAN AN HOUR EXCEPT THIS TIME AND THE AC GOES OUT, THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN A LUXURY VEHICLE. THEY NEED TO NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS THIS IS A POSSIBILITY AND THAT THEY HAVE A SOLUTION, I WOULD HAVE NEVER TAKEN THIS CAR ON A TRIP KNOWING IT WAS ENDANGERING MY SENIOR DOG, WHAT IF IT WAS A CHILD? BMW SHOULD NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS OF THIS OCCURRING SO PEOPLE CAN BE AWARE AND MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS BEFORE RISKING AND AWFUL DRIVE. UPON EMAILING BMW CORP, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON STATES THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HER AND SHE SHUT HER CAR OFF FOR 20 MIN AND THEN IT WAS FINE, SO THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT NOT KNOWN TO OWNERS UNTIL YOU ARE INCONVENIENCED AND ENDANGERED. WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY ON THE 5 WHEN BOOM OUR SUNROOF EXPLODED SHATTERING GLASS EVERYWHERE. WE WERE IN COMPLETE SHOCK AS NOTHING HIT THE CAR OR ANY DEBRIS OR ROCKS. WE CALLED OUR LOCAL BMW IMMEDIATELY AND WE GOT TRANSFERRED OVER TO OUR STANDARD SERVICE TECH THAT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH US THIS MORNING. AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT A ROCK MUST HIT IT AND WEAKENED THE GLASS AND THE PRESSURE WHILE DRIVING WITH WEAKENED GLASS CAN CAUSE IT TO SHATTER. I LET THEM KNOW THAT I RESEARCHED "EXPLODING SUNROOFS" AND IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE FREQUENCY AND THAT THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS TO DO WITH EITHER THE MANUFACTURING QUALIFY OR DEFECT. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT BMW THINKS ITS OKAY TO HAVE A SUNROOF EXPLODE WHILE DRIVING AND NOT TAKE THIS MORE SERIOUSLY AND ARE TELLING THEIR SERVICE CENTER TO SAY ITS NOT BMW'S FAULT AND THE OWNERS RESPONSIBILITY. THE TECH WOMAN WE SPOKE WITH IN PERSON AT THE BMW IN ENCINITAS SAID TO US THAT SEE HAS SEEN THIS 3 TIMES AT THEIR SHOP AND SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED PRESSURE CHANGE WITH WEAKENS GLASS ILL CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. AFTER IT BRAKED AND I WAS SITTING AT THE RED LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE FULLY STOPPED AND STATIONARY FOR APPROXIMATELY 10-20 SECONDS MY CAR ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING AND HIT THE BACK OF THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. THE IMPACT CAUSED A TINY SCRATCH ON THE DRIVERS BUMPER FROM MY LICENSE PLATE. HIS CAR WAS OLD AND HIS BUMPER ALREADY DAMAGED, SO HE WASN'T TOO CONCERNED ABOUT THE SCRATCH. WE PULLED OFF TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT AND HE CHECKED UNDER HIS CAR AND UNDER MY CAR TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE SMALL SCRATCH AND WE PARTED WAYS. ON THE FIRST OCCASION IT LURCHED FORWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF FORCE AND HIT A FENCE AS I WAS PULLING IN SLOWLY TO PARK - I COULD NOT CONTROL IT WITH THE BRAKE UNTIL I PUT IT IN REVERSE; ON SECOND OCCASION (2 WEEKS LATER), I WAS ON A CITY STREET SLOWING TO 5MPH AND STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT AND SUDDENLY WHILE I WAS FULL FOOT ON BRAKE THE CAR WAS REVVING AND BUCKING AND I COULD NOT CONTROL IT UNTIL I THREW IT INTO PARK. FOOT HARD ON THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME. BOTH TIMES DRIVING COMPLETELY STRAIGHT AND VERY SLOWLY INTO THE STOP. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 1500 MILES ON IT. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WITH VARIOUS TRANSMISSION STYLES - THE FIRST TIME IT WAS IN "SPORT" TRANSMISSION; THE SECOND IT WAS IN THE DEFAULT ("CUSTOM"). ON JUNE 28, I TOOK IT TO THE BMW DEALER. THEY HAVE NOW HAD IT NEARLY 3 WEEKS AND HAVE NOT TOLD ME ANYTHING, OTHER THAN THAT THE SOFTWARE IS BEING ANALYZED IN GERMANY AND SOMEONE FROM BMW NA NOW HAS MY FILE.
