Deferred Failure Risk
Components and defects approaching or past their known service milestones
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.
One failed component has created stress on connected systems. Repair costs compound quickly — a $500 fix can become $3,000+ if cascade damage is ignored.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that gas fumes were entering inside the vehicle and exhaust fumes were present while driving the vehicle and while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on several occasions and to several dealers; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The master cylinder was replaced, and the high-pressure fuel pump was replaced due to a reported internal fuel leak, but the failure persisted. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle at a gas station, fuel leaked from the vehicle with a strong fuel odor. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
Complaint regarding 2016 Hyundai Veloster engine oil consumption and warranty denial. In late 2023, at approximately 70,000–80,000 miles, my vehicle began experiencing excessive oil consumption. I reported this issue to Hyundai and authorized dealerships while the vehicle was still under warranty. Since then, I have completed multiple oil consumption tests, inspections, combustion cleanings, and repeated service visits, none of which resulted in a permanent repair or resolution. The oil consumption has continued and worsened over time. I am required to frequently add oil between services, raising serious concerns about engine reliability, safety, and potential engine failure. Despite ongoing documentation and repeated attempts to resolve the issue, Hyundai has not identified or corrected the root cause and has instead relied on temporary measures that have not fixed the problem. Throughout this process, my concerns have often been dismissed or minimized. Customer service has been inconsistent and at times unhelpful, despite a clear and documented history of complaints and repair attempts. Communication has been lacking and I have repeatedly had to advocate for proper attention to my case. These issues were first reported while the vehicle was under warranty, and Hyundai has had multiple opportunities to properly diagnose and repair the defect. Based on the documented history of ongoing oil consumption and repeated unsuccessful repair attempts, I believe Hyundai should honor its warranty obligations. I am requesting a full review of my case, acknowledgement of all warranty-period complaints, and approval of an engine replacement or other permanent repair at no cost to me. I am seeking accountability, fair treatment, and a lasting resolution to an ongoing engine defect.
2016 Hyundai Veloster with 1.6L Gamma engine experienced repeat catastrophic engine failure consistent with NHTSA Recall 20V746000 / Hyundai Recall 198 for connecting rod bearing failure. Failure #1: At 124,036 miles, engine developed loud knocking noise increasing with RPM, check engine light, and DTCs P0300 (random misfire) + P0303 (cylinder 3 misfire). Dealer repair order documented "broken intake valve on cylinder 3." Engine was replaced at my expense because Hyundai stated VIN was not covered under Recall 198, despite failure mode matching the recall. Failure #2: Hyundai replacement engine failed at 164,410 miles (40,374 miles on replacement engine). Identical symptoms returned: loud metallic knock that increases with RPM, same DTCs P0300/P0303, misfire cylinder 3. Vehicle is currently inoperable. Safety Concern: NHTSA Recall 20V746 states connecting rod bearings "may wear prematurely, which over time can result in engine damage" and "can increase the risk of a fire." Both of my engines suffered catastrophic internal damage at ∼40k-50k mile intervals with identical codes and cylinder 3 failure. A broken intake valve is engine damage directly caused by bearing wear allowing piston-to-valve contact. This is a pattern defect. My VIN was excluded from the recall, yet suffered the exact failure twice. The replacement engine supplied by Hyundai had the same defect. This presents a safety risk of sudden engine stall, loss of power, or fire while driving. Requested Action: Investigation into why VINs experiencing the exact failure mode are excluded from Recall 20V746, and assistance obtaining remedy from Hyundai.
I was driving down the highway when I lost all power to my engine and had to coast off and exit. Prior to the incident there was no indication of a problem. White smoke began coming out of my exhaust. I brought the car to a dealership and they told me that I would need a timing job and a new turbo. They said that my car was starved for oil, regular maintenance had been kept up with on the vehicle.
I was driving on the highway when suddenly the car lost power and the engine light started flashing. I was able to coast into a gas station. The car would no longer start and I was stranded. The next day, we drove back to where the car was stranded and attempted to get it started again, but we were unsuccessful. We had the car towed to a mechanic shop where we were told that the entire engine was blown and needed to be replaced. We had the car towed to the local Hyundai service center so they could inspect the engine. We discovered that the make, model, and year of our Veloster had been subject to an engine recall and these cars were given an extended warranty to 15 years/150,000 miles. Hyundai inspected the engine and refused to provide assistance under the extended warranty/recall. Replacement of the engine is going to cost close to $10,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and stalled. The vehicle was restarted. The contact shifted to reverse and pulled into a parking lot. The message that the transmission had overheated was displayed. The contact used a scanner and diagnosed the vehicle with clutch actuator failure. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 86,494.
Incident Description: I purchased a 2016 Hyundai Veloster (VIN: KMHTC6ADXGU255844) in May 2025. Shortly after purchase, the vehicle began exhibiting serious mechanical issues, including engine knocking, excessive oil consumption, stalling, misfiring, and loss of power. Despite these ongoing issues, the vehicle is listed as having Recall 198 completed. However, the symptoms associated with that recall continued and progressively worsened. The vehicle ultimately stalled in traffic while I was making a turn, resulting in an accident. In a separate incident, after exiting the vehicle and believing it to be in PARK, the vehicle moved unexpectedly and ran over me, causing serious physical injuries including fractures. Prior to these incidents, the vehicle had ongoing mechanical issues that were not properly resolved. The vehicle also required repeated jump-starts and became unreliable to operate. Additionally, there are discrepancies in the service records. The vehicle was towed to a dealership on or about June 8, 2025 and remained there until approximately July 15, 2025. However, the documentation provided reflects only a limited number of service days and consolidates multiple visits into a single summary. Due to these inconsistencies and the continued presence of failure symptoms, I am unable to verify that recall-related repairs were properly performed. These incidents raise serious concerns about engine failure and possible unintended vehicle movement, both of which present significant safety risks.

I was driving on 8 east freeway when all of a sudden my car lost complete power. Engine light flashing, and couldn't pick up any speed. The truck in back of me almost hit me cause my car wouldn't go. Prior to this incident, my car was and has been working perfectly. . My mom had it towed back home and got a mechanic to check the code and it gave a P1326 code which is exact code for a previous recall on these cars. I contacted Hyundai Corporate and the rep told me to take it into a Hyundai dealership to get repaired but to mention that campaign 966 was performed on the car already. Which was to prevent the p1326 recall from happening. And clearly it didn't.
When changing vehicle oil it has been noticed that there is contaminants appearing to be metal bits/glittery could possibly be rod bearing material. Also have noticed fluctuating idle
I was instructed by Hyundai USA to tow my Veloster to West Palm Beach Hyundai dealership specifically for the rod bearing diagnostic after I reported huge amount of smoke coming from the engine, engine oil leak, failed thermostat, and failed water pump, all while I was driving to work. I have repeatedly asked for Hyundai USA to send me a copy of the technician's notes, oil pressure test results, and bearing clearance measurements, part of Hyundai's TSB 21-GI-009H. Hyundai USA continues to refuse to release to me the technical rod bearing diagnostic report completed on my 2016 Veloster. Since rod bearing failure is a safety recall issue (stalling), I am listing your help to explicitly request the Service Manager's diagnostic report and photos of the rod bearing clearance test. I can't get to work with my Veloster because it is unsafe to drive and has been at the dealership since January 17, 2026. My safety is at risk.
As I was driving to work one day my 2016 Veloster suddenly lost power on the expressway at expressway speeds. Now that in itself is very dangerous seeing as how there were big rigs around me. Luckily I managed to make it off of the expressway traveling slower than I turtle.i was almost rear ended on various occasions. I parked right away and left to work. I came back later that day and cranked her over and it started, but now with the check engine light blinking. So I attempted to drive it a little and it worked but now I've come to find out that it is in protect mode.I took it to my local Hyundai dealership (Hyundai of pharr) in pharr Texas and was told that Hyundai would not honor their extended warranty because whatever is wrong with it is not covered according to them. So a while back there was a class action lawsuit in California against the Hyundai Corporation of which I was a part of. When it was time for settlement I had a choice of monetary gain or and overly extended warranty on my 2016 Veloster that covered engine and transmission for I believe was 10 more years. So I chose the warranty but Hyundai still won't cover it. I guess I have to wait for my car to catch on fire before they submit the warranty and even then they will blame something else. So here I am,telling my story.
The climate control knob and AC system failed due to an apparent wiring defect. This is a known issue affecting hundreds or thousands of Hyundai Veloster owners. The failure causes loss of climate control and creates a safety issue due to a lack of defrosting and cabin airflow, as well as electrical fires. I have spent thousands of dollars trying to get this fixed, and mechanics are turning me away.
On March 2024, I had my veloster towed to a certified Hyundai service dealer because it suddenly began losing power, the oil light came on, the engine light flickered, and it began making a whining noise, and then the engine died and wouldn’t crank again. It took them weeks to diagnose it, and they told me the turbo was out in it, and quoted me an absurd amount to replace it. I had the turbo replaced, as well as some gaskets, the coils and spark plugs. It ran fine after that until June 2025 when the oil and check engine light came on and the engine died again while we were coming home from a vacation, 2 hours south of where we live in a tiny town that had no dealership or rental company within 100 miles. We found a small mechanic who said it needed a lower fuel pump. He put one in it and we got back on the road, but it still wasn’t running as well as it should. It don’t have quite as much power, but no dash lights came on. When I got home I took it to another local certified Hyundai service dealer, who said it needed new coils and spark plugs again, so they replaced them. Again it ran fine for a while until the day after thanksgiving this year, 11/25, when the oil light came on again at the end of my road. I took it to another local certified auto parts store who read the codes and found no suggested fix. No certified dealers were open that day, so I took it to Pep Boys where the engine light came on when I pulled in, and who said they thought it needed new timing solenoids, and put them in it. When they finished, they drove it and told me they felt like the turbo was going out and advised I take it to the dealer again. I had it towed to a certified Hyundai service dealer on Monday 12/01/25. They diagnosed it as needing a new turbo (again), a lower oil pan, and an oil switch. Quoted $3550. Over a week later today they told me that after putting it all in and tiring it on that the oil light came back on. They have now diagnosed it as needing an oil pump.
While driving my 2016 Hyundai Veloster (VIN: [XXX] ) on the highway, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration. I went from 60 mph down to 20 mph with no throttle response, and the car only continued moving briefly from momentum. I was forced to stop in unsafe highway conditions and had the vehicle towed home. Prior to this complete failure, the car had recurring transmission/drive issues: it would start, but when placed in reverse it moved backward, and when shifted into drive it still only moved backward. Despite repeated repair attempts, the problems persisted. A certified mechanic later inspected the vehicle and confirmed severe internal engine damage, including metallic noises, blue smoke, oil leakage from worn piston rings, and complete compression loss. The mechanic concluded the vehicle requires deep engine repair or replacement. These failures are consistent with widespread reports of Hyundai Veloster engine defects, which pose serious safety risks to drivers. My vehicle is now inoperable despite responsible maintenance and repeated attempts to fix the issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. While the contact’s wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly lost power, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle then stalled at a stoplight. The vehicle was restarted and immediately driven to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine compression was abnormal and advised the contact that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that while at the dealer, the service and diagnostic guidelines were not followed regarding the NHTSA Action Number: EA21003 (ENGINE), and the coverage was denied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 125,367.
King Hyundai hung up/refused free Recall 198 inspection despite confirmed defect (rod bearing/crank damage). VIN [XXX] . Case #1824300. Safety risk—stall/fire. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
My vehicle has been burning through oil for 2 years now. It started with me having to get oil changes every 3 months, then 2, then 1, now I am forced to go get oil top offs every 2-3 weeks or the check oil light comes on and car drives very rough. I have been reaching out and opening cases with Hyundai and working with my local dealer for a year now and still nothing is being resolved. I need my engine replaced and they refuse, wanting me to jump through hoops and doing various tests only to tell me that even after I pay thousands for the tests, there’s no guarantee they can replace the engine. This is a known issue when you search online and thousands of people’s Hyundais are being affected. This vehicle is less than 10 years old it should not be having these issues. Hyundai is at fault for creating faulty vehicles and they are refusing to do anything about it.
Greetings, I went in for an oil change and was notified that my car airbags did not work and/or have not worked for an indeterminant time. The dealership ordered a part which still has not arrived. It’s been nearly 3 weeks, and I am unable to collect my car unless I pay $2,000. I’ve been paying out of pocket for a rental during that time, and as a college student have missed some classes. Currently, my car is still at the dealership unable to be driven safely. They say the seat sensor went bad and disabled my entire airbag system. There’s no telling how long my family and I have been at great risk of injury or death driving this car. I’m afraid to pay or pickup the vehicle as I’m unsure if it’s safe. I have been denied warranty coverage from corporate Hyundai and from the dealership. Im not sure how to proceed.
I am going to answer each point one by one for clarity. 1.) Mass oil consumption from bad piston rings, and yes it is available. 2.) I was driving after work one night and my oil pressure light was blinking red. Needed to immedelty pull to the side and have someone get me oil to top off. This was when I first found out about this issue. 3.) Yes as it is a constant problem and I've had two different mechanics look and confirm that my engine is essentially toast. 4.) No, not yet as I am not willing to pay an absurd amount of money for a dealer inspection unless they truely mean well with it. 5.) Other than the red oil pressure light I mentioned eariler, no. This was Augest 12th. Bought the car from the dealer April 18th.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that after completing a routine oil change, the contact discovered that while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The contact had an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle, who determined that the failure was related to the engine. The local dealer was contacted, and it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. There was corrosion around the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and requested the maintenance records, but declined to assist due to maintenance neglect. The contact stated that the maintenance records were not accessible due to not being the original owner. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment, and the vehicle failed to exceed 40 MPH, prompting the contact to discontinue driving the vehicle. The check engine and low oil pressure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the connecting rod bearings failure had resulted in the engine damage. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000(Engine), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 99,000.
While driving home one late night, the engine completely locked up while driving causing the vehicle to come to a halt and left me stranded in the road. Got it off the road and eventually towed home where it was later inspected and found the engine bone dry of oil. There were no signs or indications there were any issues with oil leaking, etc. After much research, it's a commonly known issue with other Hyundai makes and models and even some of the same as mine in other years. This engine only has 100,000 miles on it. It just barely broke that mark before completely leaving me stranded. It's still an unresolved issue as no one wants to repair my car.
The reason I am submitting this form is because my 2016 Veloster Turbo has an open recall out for premature wear in the bottom end (bearings and rods) and my car has been experiencing the same problems. I have had the highest rated shop in my area to look at the wear directly and it is clear this is the problem with the engine. Despite this all attempts to contact dealers and the manufacture have resulted in those parties claiming my unit was not affected during the recall and therefore there is nothing they can do to help me. It is clear my engine is experiencing the exact problems detailed in the recall and I have treated this engine as well I can as I had knowledge of these problems, even still my engine is only a couple hundred miles away from blowing up completely and not running. When this car was bought I added a catch can to specifically help with the premature wear on the engine as well as never revving the engine to over 5,0000 rpms. As well to both of the previously mentioned conditions I have consistently changed the oil every 3,000 miles or before with the best oil and oil filter money can buy. Despite all of this and treating the car as well as I possibly could I still experienced significant terminal damage to my engine and I haven't even hit 99,000 miles yet. This whole experience has been awful and near impossible even for me someone who is very well equipped to handle car problems and I can't imagine how a regular family with basic car knowledge could ever navigate and handle this situation accordingly. All I am looking for is some type of help in any way to move forward my car is still running and driving but if I continue to drive it, it will most definitely blow up leaving me stranded. Thank you for your time.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle hesitated to respond while depressing the accelerator pedal, failed to exceed 45 MPH and made an abnormal knocking sound. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a BCT (Bearing Clearance Test) was performed, and the knock sensors were replaced; however, the failure recurred immediately while leaving dealer's parking lot. The vehicle was taken to two other independent mechanics, where the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced due to damage to the engine rod bearings. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000(Engine); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 79,700.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the sunroof glass shattered. The contact was unaware of what caused the glass to shatter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,900.
I am the second owner of a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Base, purchased used at approximately 19,976 miles. Since then, the vehicle has experienced multiple major powertrain-related failures. At 49,196 miles, the first catalytic converter failed and was replaced. Later, both the engine and second catalytic converter were replaced by Kearny Mesa Hyundai, a certified Hyundai dealership in San Diego, CA. When I brought the vehicle to Kearny Mesa Hyundai, there were no warning lights or active diagnostic trouble codes. However, the dealership’s service documentation stated that a P0420 code (catalyst system efficiency below threshold) was present — a code that was not active when I dropped off the vehicle, raising concerns about diagnostic accuracy or documentation. Now, at 61,982 miles, I brought the vehicle to Hyundai Ontario due to delayed shifting and hesitation when accelerating. The dealership diagnosed internal transmission failure and quoted approximately $5,000 for repairs. There were no warning lights or codes detected, meaning this diagnosis is based solely on driving symptoms. The failure of two catalytic converters, the engine, and now the transmission — all within approximately 42,000 miles of ownership — raises serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this vehicle and possible manufacturing defects. The transmission symptoms pose a serious safety risk, especially when merging or accelerating into traffic. I am requesting that this vehicle be investigated for potential systemic issues affecting its powertrain components.
About 2 years ago, my Veloster suddenly started using oil and began knocking. No check engine light or other indicators came on. I had it inspected by a mechanic who confirmed that there was a problem in the lower half of the motor and it would have to be replaced. I was aware that other Veloster owners had been experiencing the same issue. I found recall spawned by a class-action which extended the engine's warranty to 15 years and 150,000 miles, but the website said my Veloster was not covered by the recall. I called Hyundai and they also said that my Veloster was not covered by the recall. I was very frustrated. People I know that sell Hyundai vehicles remained hopeful that Hyundai would come around and recall my car too, but I do not think that is going to happen since it has been nearly 2 years now. I have a 2016 Hyundai Veloster R-Spec (which is a turbo model) and it has the same engine as other turbo models that were recalled. I am very frustrated that this issue is widely known and Hyundai seems to have gotten away with creating a vehicle that's longevity is subpar from any I have ever owned. It recently dawned on me to ask AI for help and it recommended I contact and you, the NHTSA, so at the very least it is documented and patterns can be seen where this problem continues to occur with vehicles that were not part of the recall. I was very particular and admit about the maintenance on my Veloster. There is no reason that this car should be scrapped after experiencing a detrimental engine failure less than 7 years and 125,000 miles from when it was purchased brand new. I still have the car, which has been sitting in my driveway since before I had it towed to the mechanic about the engine problems.
The car is sluggish and loses power when it is taking off. It is like it is in slow mode. The other issue is that it uses lots of oil. I even had the dealership to repair the valve cover gasket. It should not use oil at the rate.
The engine has a known issue with the port holes being too small to allow adequate oil flow, this has been addressed in the non turbo engines. Our veloster had the same malfunction engine failure in which hyundai is not covering and the dealership is doing a goodwill coverage of only 70% expense of engine only. When the engine throws a rod due to the malfunction it damages the turbo most times and they are requiring a full payment for that issue. Main focus is the engine when replaced has larger holes/ports and the engine can perform adequately. So as a consumer and owner we want to advise on this unbalance of coverage of the extended warranty. Especially since the turbo engine is identical just adding the turbo which it's performing at a higher rate.
The car stall when I'm driving
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 65 MPH, the vehicle started to jerk, and the oil warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the highway to inspect the vehicle and the contact became aware that the oil level was low. The contact waited for several minutes before restarting the vehicle and continued driving to the residence. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the catalytic convertor had caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 132,000.
The component that failed is acceleration. He came from work at the Frywed when he reduced the speed from 65 to 30 and no longer accelerated .. if an independent service had no warning or failure at that time they were detected
Oil continuously drains beyond normal usage. Fuel consumption has also been consumed beyond normalcy. Taken major advantage of lack of knowledge on car maintenance by Hyundai dealership. No repair orders are issued as of late for any major changes to the vehicle. Last repair order(s) was completed 10/24/2023.
The "touch screen" in the car has warped from heat and no longer responds to touch. Many features and settings for the car are no longer available. Not sure if it's a safety issue; it would depend on the car model and which settings are managed through the touch screen. Since I can't access the settings, I don't know what features or settings are now inaccessible, so I'm reporting the affected equipment as a precaution.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a Midas where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pressure regulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Shortly after finishing major repairs at my local dealer, I started to expirience, what I believe, now, to be a "low-end engine knock". Engine knock can usually occur due to oil starvation, where the connecting rod bearings are worn and debris enters the engine. So, I brought my car back to the dealer to ask them what this strange noise was I was hearing; I asked them if it could be the brand new clutch, or their equipment they left in the engine bay for me. They gave me an answer and it was to not drive the car anymore. One employee of the dealer even suggested "wrapping it around a telephone pole"... They told me what the repairs would cost and I had not qualified for a warranty extention so I left. I acquired a definitive diagnostic elsewhere and was shown the gravity of the situation. My oil filter had caught pieces of the engine and it was dubbed an engine knock. This incident took me completely by surprise. I regularly changed my oil and never saw my levels get so low that they would be considered empty. I have only owned the car for 5 years and it being only 8 years old, I was hoping to enjoy the driving expirience for years to come. That sensation has been replaced with apprehension and possible engine fire... how do I afford to buy a new car every 5 years if I can't drive the one I have now??
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving at an undisclosed speed. No warning light illuminated. The contact also noticed black smoke coming from the vehicle The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rod bearings failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone, where diagnostic test codes indicated a timing chain failure and other diagnostic test codes were retrieved. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed due to low engine oil, and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that 2 quarts of oil was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the engine was overfilled with oil. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was related to the knock sensor. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer, Great Lakes Hyundai of Dublin (2441 Billingsley Rd, Columbus, OH 43235), where it was diagnosed. The dealer informed the contact that no engine failure was found; however, the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power, went into LIMP Mode, and failed to exceed 5 MPH. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving 35-40 MPH. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle had become undrivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they relied on the dealer’ assessment. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.
On May 13, 2024 my car had it's motor replaced. This was done at no charge by Hyundai of Wesley Chapel (Not where I bought it). The motor was replaced because of a recall (Product Improvement Campaign 966/ Knock Sensor Detection System). On July 28, 2024 my car engine ( the new one they had given me 10 weeks earlier) overheated and broke down. We had the car towed back to Hyundai of Wesley Chapel. They were unable to determine the cause of the engine breaking down, other than that is was leaking coolant. Hyundai is asking me to pay for a diagnostic test, estimated at between $3,000 and $4,000 to determine the cause. We do not want to do that and don't believe we should be held responsible for this cost. We have not been provided with a loaner car. This is a big inconvenience that we need resolved.
I have a 2016 Hyundai Veloster turbo and my AC started making a weird noise coming from my AC controller, I opened and my climate control resistor was burned and smelling and I’m worried about my car getting on fire and I seen this is a common problem in velosters
As I was driving on the highway I started losing power and a warning of transmission over heating appeared on screen. I let the car sit and cool down and when I started it up again the same issue persisted, I had the car towed home. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety was put at risk since I was driving and highway speed and car just slowed down during rush hour traffic. The vehicle has not been expected at this time.
Rod knocking noise engine.
How do I get help with a complaint against Hyundai for non compliance . This is my 2nd engine fire!!
After noticing a significant shortage of oil, I took my 2016 HYUNDAI Veloster Turbo to get an oil change. There continued to be persistent low oil in my vehicle even after an oil change. I put things under my car to make sure there was no leak and the vehicle maintenance advisor informed me there is no external leak present when getting the oil change. I drove a week and my oil dipstick was already showing significantly low oil in the engine. After contacting Hyundai about this issue, they said I would need to go through the same process with them and they would not be held responsible for billing. This comes at a time where Technical Service Bulletin #23-EM-007H was recently released in December 2023 applying to 4-Cylinder Gasoline Engines. I’m concerned about the safety of myself and others due to the probability of a fire, however I have already paid out of pocket for maintenance that had diagnosed the issue.
Code: P0087 show up when I scanned it. I was driving on freeway and my car lose power suddenly. This could potentially cause accident because it’s was heavy traffic time.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving from a complete stop and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated and responded slowly. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle decelerated independently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where both catalytic converters were replaced, and the fuel lines were cleaned; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where the vehicle was test-driven, and the mechanic informed the contact that the failure could be related to the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Knocking on engine. All service necessary for the vehicle has been up to date. Hyundai Dealer has said to wait for a recall. Rod bearing recall has happened and my vehicle was never recalled.
There is a recall for 2016 Velosters that is for the engine rods failing. The 2015 to 2016 Hyundai Veloster has been recalled for connecting-rod bearings in the engine that could wear out prematurely and damage the engine1. The 2016 Hyundai Veloster has had several engine-related issues, including excessive oil consumption, going into limp mode, hesitating at acceleration, knocking sound in the engine, poor acceleration, stalling, failure in the timing chain tensioner, rough idling, and oil leaks. Which is exactly what is happening to my car currently. Told me I was not eligible. But I'm not understanding why.
Cylinder one lost compression. My mechanic pulled the engine apart and found the valve broke, a piece of the valve broke off. Compression test was only at 30 lb. in cylinder one. cylinder two had 120 lb., cylinder three had 130 lb., cylinder 4 had 149 lb. This Car had oil changes done every 3k to 4k miles with full synthetic. Never raced and always driven properly. 121k miles and the engine was basically done. Having the entire engine rebuilt for 5k$ now. I was having to add about a quart of oil every 500 miles before the valve broke.
02/??/22 immediately after purchase, the vehicle’s alternator died and had to be replaced. 12/06/22 catalytic converter blew with no warning while driving. Car was towed to mechanic. 12/07/22 repairs were approved, costing $1,748.66. Shop informed us this repair was due to a recall (campaign 22-01-023H-2) From 12/22 through 07-23 I opened many cases with Hyundai, who closed cases without explanation. During this time I am required to refill vehicle’s oil every month to stop engine knocking and prevent break down. 06/23 I was finally able to set an appointment to start the first step of the recall. 07/10/23 I arrived for my appointment to start oil monitoring, but was told to reschedule and come back later. 07/19/23 I arrived for my rescheduled appointment. Dealer made me pay for oil that was used and instructed me to return in 1,000 miles. After 1,000 miles I returned and left my car at the dealer for a few days. When I returned Hyundai staff told me the recall was “only for the original owner.” I was also told the recall was “already fixed” and there was “nothing wrong” with the car. I self advocated, stating again that the oil was depleting rapidly and what I had gone through. Staff told me to “drive the car until it breaks down, then Hyundai will cover the costs of repair.” I mentioned how that is unsafe, but was sent away. 11/24/23 vehicle completely broke down out of state in a dark and unfamiliar area at nighttime. Vehicle was towed, requiring engine repairs. 11/27/23 I opened a case with Hyundai regarding these issues. A few weeks later I was told the case was closed since they “had to believe the dealer and not the client.” 02/05/24 alternator died, vehicle required a tow to the mechanic. 02/06/24 repairs were approved for almost $1,000. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle as it is unreliable, breaks down without warning lights- which only appear after break down, and the manufacturer refuses to take accountability for these issues.

After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 130,000.
I have done a lot of research on my car when it started having issues with major oil burning/consumption (I took it in because I had an engine recall and they did their testing and said no recall for my car). And since 2021, I haven't had a consistent working heater and a/c because a wiring issue. Which I have spoke to hyundai on a few occasions and told me "you just need a new hvac control head unit" which I had already replaced. The harness connector was fried, had that replaced by someone I know. May be not to standards, but it would usually work with most vehicles. I have replaced the head unit 3 times now, and the wiring harness 3 times. And it eventually fries the knob control for my blower speed. I have an 16 month old child and its a safety issue. The wires keep frying (my resistor has been replaced a few times thinking that was the issue), telling me the wires are not capable of the output for something so simple. In my research, this has happened to thousands of other velosters around the year of mine. And one was a mechanic and said it is a safety issue. It can catch on fire, and this should be a recall on all cars. I've also read how hyundai has told people with recalls, their cars were fine (after testing) then the engine blows and they're incompetent and so not care to help its consumers. Please help me somehow?
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine made knocking sounds. Additionally, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate while driving. The TPMS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where Service Campaign 993 (Inspect & Anti-Theft Software Upgrade) was performed, and the engine was replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 73,200.
On 11/21/2023, I took my vehicle to Musser's Automotive in Tipp City, Ohio & I was informed of an Internal Oil Consumption & recommendation for warranty coverage.
After previous complaint I filed, my engine continued to decline. Began burning a quart of oil approximately every 240 miles and has now almost completely lost power. It will not go above 25 miles per hour. I can not drive it anywhere except within two miles of my house where the speed limit is 25mph. EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS! It will die while driving and crank right back up but then die again. As contained in my previous complaint - Check engine light has been flashing since last December, Oil light comes on approximately every 240 miles. Other model years of this car have been recalled due to oil issues - but not this one. Yes the engine has been inspected and everyone agrees the engine is bad but Hyundai refuses to do anything about it due to the car not being included in the previous recall years. PLEASE inspect it. Anytime you want. It's not like I can drive it anywhere. I would drive it straight to a junk yard, but am still paying on it. You should know, if you don't already, that Hyundai is regularly giving owners of cars that have been included in the recall, the runaround on repairing anything. There are multiple facebook groups with literally THOUSANDS of people complaining about the same or similar issues with their Hyundai vehicles and nothing is being done. The MOST disreputable company I have ever dealt with - from the dealer all the way up to corporate. READ SOME OF THESE STORIES TO GET A TRUE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROBLEM... The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45–55 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to pull over, looked under the hood, and notice that an unknown fluid was boiling. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who informed her about unknown recalls. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the radiator was empty. The vehicle was not repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine) due to owner neglect. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
Unknown Regular oil changes, cranked my car up one morning and it started knocking, I have been in a rental for 2 weeks now and paying out pocket as a single mother in grad school. The dealers excuse of not diagnosing the car sooner, is that their schedule is busy after arguing with the extended warranty company about my coverage. I booked their next soonest appointment to be told we'll see if we can get it looked at that day. I believe they're hiding the fact that my bricks falls under recall 198 and do not want to admit it.
My vehicle started making knocking noise in front end. Took it to my mechanic and he told me to take to dealership and see if there is a recall for my car. I've done so much research on vehicle for recall and it says that its the rod knocking which should be covered as the recall I found but Hyundai is giving me problems with it. Vehicle is a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the engine started knocking. The contact stated that several days later the knocking sound became louder, and the vehicle became inoperable. The vehicle was towed back to the residence. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 109,852.
The engine is stalling. Check engine light is flashing. Car is in limp mode. Dealership say it not a matter of it but when the engine blows up. Have seen where some of these cars blow up and catch on fire. Hyundai want help me or thousands of other people with this problem
Engine is consuming oil. Catalytic converter becomes restricted, and motor will stop running while driving. After restart motor will not have enough performance to exit traffic. Catalytic converter was replaced and now problem is recurring.
When my car 2016 Hyundai Veloster reached almost 95000 mileage the oil starts to dissipate much faster so started to do oil change much often. Recently and my care already at 97000 mileage. We are driving going up a hill and it started to make some noise kind of like a motorcycle noise and I know there is something wrong but no light warnings or anything. I was trying to push it to get to a safer side of the road because I have my 86 year old mother with me but the car did nor make it and heard something snap really loud and the car just stopped and saw a little bit of smoke. Had to stop immediately on the side of the road and it was a bad spot against the rail and that blocked the 2 doors on the right side. the car only have 3 doors so now my mother is stuck and had to figure out how to have her crawl out to get out the driver side of the vehicle. If the car was on fire that would have been really dangerous. Took it to the mechanic and my insurance inspector already saw the car and determined that there was some kind of rod that came off and that the engine is blown an that it is with a hole. it is beyond repair or if I do it will cost $5000-$6000. I bought it on 2018 with only 5000 miles on it. I kept up with yearly maintenance. I think it is insane that it will break that fast and we are traumatize with the danger. I am not ready financially for this.
Car started making a loud rattling sound. Took car to get diagnosed, issue was with the connecting rod bearings inside the engine. Asked about current NHSTA campaign id # 20V746000 but was denied because my engine is not part of the recall. My car recently had a maintenance check up at the dealer and was marked as fine, no issues. Engine light blinked once for about two seconds, no other warnings. I am very upset as this could have lead to serious issues and now I have to pay out of pocket to replace entire engine. Open campaign recall is for 2015-2016 Hyundai Veloster, my car is a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. Why is my engine not covered in recall?
Passenger front door is inoperative from the exterior. It can only be opened from the inside, which is a safety issue if someone is being followed and needs to quickly enter the vehicle. It is the same issue as NHTSA ID Number: 11286381 that was reported 2.5 years ago, but this is now happening to me and there are several reports of this on Hyundai forums.

Driving on highway at night coming around curve my car was still on which electrical was okay but my car started gliding like it was in neutral and could not accelerate. My car engine cuts off on highway. I'm luckily , a lot of cars were not on the highway at the time, letting me use my steering wheel to mauver to side of the highway. I tried turning the car off and turning back on would not crack but lights would come on. I had to get a car towed to my house. Appointments book until first week of May so been without a car sense April 11th. I was made aware of the 2016 Hyundai Recall on premature connecting bearing rods vehicle that could lead to crashes because Veloster's are shutting down on the highway like mines did. I'm sending my car to dealership on May 2, 2023, to Thorton Rd Hyundai dealership to perform the steps the dealership recommended me to do to see if my car qualifies to get extended warranty to fix my engine. All complaints read on 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER 3C FWD | NHTSA reads to me that my car was underling and part of the effect it's just that I'm more fortune than others that my engine lasted longer due to the care that I gave to my car. I had no warning lights of this incident was near future going to happen to me. All warning lights presented itself when car shut down on highway while costing over to, emergency lane. I love my little bug and want my car to be fixed so we can joy ride again.
I got an inspection on my car and was told to take it to dealership due to a recall The engine would sometimes stall while I was driving The last time I used it, it no longer turned on at all But a check engine light never turned on or anything of the sort The car hasn’t been inspected by anyone

Late Spring 2021–notified of recall due to connecting rod/bearing issue. Hyundai dealer does engine inspection on 4/27/2021 & clears it. Also installed software update to monitor the problem. April 27, 2022–Car dies multiple times while driving on highway. Starts back up each time, but making clacking noise with Check engine & oil light on. Pulled over and had towed to mechanic. Couldn’t get diagnostic code, but told based on the incident, believe the issue related to recall & told to take it to dealer. Had car towed to Hyundai. Ran simple diagnostic. Got no codes. Manager drives & says some hesitation not unusual with Veloster. Did not stall. Recommends fuel additive. Early May 2022-Check engine light comes on & stays. Check at Autozone, Firestone, & dealer– told only catalytic converter code & car is drivable. Oil light starts flickering intermittently about every two weeks. Start scheduling earlier oil changes. Continues to flicker. Start adding oil between changes. August/September 2022?–Receive Hyundai letter stating warranty extended on my engine due to connecting rod recall. Warranty now 15 years/150,000 miles. December 20, 2022–Check engine light starts flashing. December 27, 2022–Dealer says can’t look at for 4 months, take to Firestone. January 9, 2023–tech says excessive oil burnt at top of pistons & oil leaking into cylinders, due to internal seal failure. Recommend replacing engine, but not related to recall. Research finds recall due to faulty piston seals/oil leaks on 2019-2021 Velosters & plenty of complaints about oil seal problems & excessive oil burning problems with earlier Velosters as well. Car unsafe to drive on highway due to lagging acceleration & hesitation. 2/3/2023–call Hyundai America about safety concerns. 2/7/2023–Hyundai denies claim.
The engine overheated with no lights on the dash and the engine block cracked
While driving down the highway the engine began to knock loudly. When the engine stalled. The vehicle stalled while traveling on a congested highway at a speed of approximately 70MPH. The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road where I waited for a tow truck via AAA for 5 Hours. The vehicle was towed to an independent service center that diagnosed it with a worn rod bearing, which in turn is causing the knocking. The vehicle has been maintained and oil changed regularly. Vehicle is unusable in current state as it is at risk for complete engine failure and risk of fire. No warning lamps or messages were present at time of incident. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle began to stall. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to her residence. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced; and the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The dealer replaced the catalytic converter but then informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The vehicle was not serviced under the recall. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
I was driving my 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo when I started to hear a loud knocking sound coming from the engine. At this time I also noticed a decline in power and the check engine light came on. I made an appointment to bring the car to my local Hyundai dealership to have the car looked at. While en route to the dealership, the car suddenly made a loud bang and a profusion of smoke came out of the engine and engulfed the car, inside & out, making it impossible for not only me to see but also limited visibility for the person following me, which was extremely dangerous. I couldn't see or breathe and had to rapidly exit the car on the side of a busy road with no shoulder. The engine completely failed and the car was not drivable. I had the car towed to the Hyundai dealership where they told me the engine had seized and needed to be completely replaced. Although my VIN is not yet included in engine recall 20V746000, my car has the 1.6 liter GDI Gamma engine included in that recall. In addition, the exact chain of events that I experienced have been described by others whose cars are included in the recall which describes connecting rod bearings inside the engine wearing prematurely (creating a knocking sound and reduced engine power), causing engine damage. I am requesting an investigation into this incident as I feel that my car should be included in the recall. It was a very dangerous incident and I don't want others to needlessly experience this same problem, possibly with more harmful consequences.

When I first bought my car it seemed to have some sort of transmission problem because it's a dual clutch I was told they do have problems sometimes when I'm trying to pick up speed it seems like it won't switch gears so it won't pick up speed which is extremely dangerous especially when I'm on the beltway or highway and I've already had Hyundai replace the first transmission because it was faulty now my second transmission is already acting up and it's only been 2 years

Me and my who is currently pregnant was driving at a highway running 40mph when my car suddenly stalled. The engine died and my car is like on neutral. Thank god i was able to maneuver it to the sidelane and no one was injured. There were no warning lights whatsoever. I had to call a tow truck to bring it to my house. And since im very scared to use it again. And up to now the car is still not working, i wonder if its the engine or the alternator that caused the engine to die.
I took my car to a dealer called Lee Johns in Everett WA for 2 recalls, but they told me I had problems with my catalytic converter and they replaced it under warranty at no cost to me. After 2 days they gave me the car and it did not work more than 2 hours and the engine light started blinking and from one moment to another it reduced the speed to 20 miles per hour. I called the dealer and they told me to take them, but to this day they only replied that the car warranty would only cover 55% for the replacement of the damaged engine. They gave me the defective car after they changed the catalyst and I gave them a working car that now doesn't work and they only tell me that I have to pay 4000usd so that they can repair it and they haven't given me any report of the engine revision because It failed, after they changed the catalyst, only telling me that I should pay and then make a claim or sue the manufacturer. I delivered my car to them on June 27 and to date they have it in their possession, leaving me unable to move and me having to assume the costs of renting and paying friends to pass their cars to me. I hope they can see my case since they wrecked my car.

The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
The dealership refuse to do the recall on my vehicle just because my vehicle needs a new battery and want me to get a new battery to get the recall done. They don’t want to use a battery from their shop and then put my old battery back.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that she had initially received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where they inspected the vehicle and found no damage related to the recall, the recall was then removed and the vehicle returned to the contact. Recently, the contact stated that on two separate occasions, once while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified and provided a diagnostic fee for an inspection. The contact then took the vehicle to Hyundai of Yakima (3204 Fruitvale Blvd, Yakima, WA 98902) where they confirmed that the connecting rod bearing was defective which was linked to the recall. The manufacturer was notified by the dealer and the manufacturer denied the claim submitted to have the vehicle serviced under the prior recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 117,500.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated his daughter was driving and was at a stoplight. The driver was making a right turn when the vehicle lost motive power and the vehicle stalled lost power. The driver was able to restart the vehicle and slowly pulled the vehicle into a parking lot and parked. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had to pick up the vehicle the next day and have it towed to their residence and then towed to an independent mechanic to inspect the vehicle and failure was related to an internal issue with the engine making abnormal noise. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer who diagnosed the failure as related to the catalytic converter and damage to the engine where it would need to be replaced. The dealer also inform the contact the failure could be related to an NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (engine), however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,270.
Cruising on freeway ~70 mph when car starts slowing due to lack of power- for unknown reason car went into "limp mode", with turbo boost pressure and power cut off, barely enough power to keep car at 60 mph in order to make it to freeway exit to pull off. This could have caused serious collision. Turned off car, let it sit 1 min, turned it back on, and problem seemed to go away. No Check Engine Light, no OBD2 codes. Limp mode sometimes occur during harsh shifts but releasing throttle and reengaging usually fixes it but this time needed to shut off the car. Has been reported to dealer but they can't reproduce consistently and no CEL/codes so they won't try to find a fix. But losing power for no apparent reason on freeway definitely dangerous situation.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine) and the dealer-installed a software update containing a new Knock Sensor Detection System; however, while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle began to stall. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Then, the vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist who diagnosed that the transmission was in great condition; however, the engine was not communicating with the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed a transmission relearn; however, the vehicle was sluggish while accelerating from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that there were metal shavings in the engine oil, the engine was knocking loudly, and there was a significant amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust. The dealer reset the Knock Sensor Detection System software. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the vehicle would not exceed 45 MPH. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer - Hyundai of Yuma (1125 E 32nd St, Yuma, AZ 85365) who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The second dealer sent a diagnostic report to the manufacturer and requested a new engine; however, the manufacturer denied the request due to the vehicle having a salvage title. The contact stated that only the rear end of the vehicle was reconstructed as the vehicle was involved in a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 58,900.
- When it shifts from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd gear, the RPMs will keep going up until I take my foot off the gas. So if I need to merge onto a highway quickly and it stalls in one gear, it can go up to 6k or 7k RPMs without shifting. I never let it get past it because I take my foot off the gas to let it shift because I'm afraid it will blow something. - When in automatic and at a stop, if you go, it will sometimes rev up a little high before shifting and also pull a lot faster versus other times when it shifts normally. To keep me on my toes, it will sometimes do the opposite and not accelerate very well at all. Almost like I press the gas and nothing happens until it's pressed all the way and then it will go. - The tachometer will lag on what RPM the engine is actually on. So you'll know it's clearly at 3k but it will only read on 1k for a few seconds before quickly going up to what it's supposed to be on. - There's also a knocking noise when my car is idling for a little while. It's every 5 to 10 minutes there's a loud knock coming from the engine. - I also understand when driving slow, for example like a drive-thru, DCT don't typically like that. But when I am in a line like that or traffic, it will stutter as if it's about to stall or shut off completely. And not like a light shake, it was very noticeable that everyone felt as if it was going to sputter and turn off. With these multiple issues, it makes me and my passengers feel extremely unsafe and it's concerning that anytime I've taken it to the dealership it's shrugged off by saying the DCT transmissions sometimes "act weird". I'm not sure how that's an answer to something that is pretty dangerous.
Vehicle in service and has none functioning air bag. Not covered under warranty nor the extended warranty that I purchased This is a safety and risk issue for myself and others that would drive the vehicle.
Engine has a very noticeable engine ticking just like every other 1.6 included in the Hyundai recall yet my engine isn’t included in the recall. How can my 2016 have the same issue yet not require a recall notice
Engine knocking loudly on cold start indicating possible rod bearing wear addressed on nhtsa safety recall number 20v746000. Car was taken to hyundai dealer for recall engine inspection and given clean bill of health and removed from recall listing. Vehicle was at the dealership for less than an hour which is not enough time to do the necessary inspection for rod bearing wear. Knock sensor software was updated, but knock sensors are designed to detect piston clatter or knock, known as preignition. Knock sensors do not and cannot detect engine noise from worn rod bearings. The inspection method obviously did not include any actual mechanical measurement for bearing runout to determine actual wear, but instead was based on what the tech could hear and his personal determination or that of his superior. I contend my car is still at risk for early engine failure as outlined in the safety recall and should be reinstated for a proper inspection.
While I was driving down the road I suddenly heard a rod knock coming from the engine. I immediately pulled over and turned the car off. I was fortunate that I am aware of this known problem and can recognize the symptoms. An oil warning like appeared after the sound of the rod knock and just before I turned the engine off. I was on a local highway at the time and knew that the rod knock would likely result in an engine fire if I did not turn it off immediately. I checked the oil on the car and found that it was suddenly very low, which came as a surprise because I had just checked the oil a couple days before. I have since read that a common symptom associated with the Hyundai engine problems is sudden excessive oil consumption. After contacting Hyundai and insisting that this is a known problem with the 2016 Veloster Turbo they inspected the engine and confirmed the rod bearing was worn and the rod was knocking. They refused to acknowledge that ANY 2016 Velosters had been recalled for engine problems and refused to discuss it further. Since my car was still under warranty, the most they would agree to was partially covering the repair under warranty because I had modified the air intake on the car. To exacerbate the scenario, it took over 3 months for the local dealership to complete the repairs which were completed in just a few hours.
I own a 2016 Hyundai Veloster, and the Manual heater control unit only works on certain numbers. I haven’t had it checked out. But I first noticed it when I purchased the car. Sometimes the heater or air will just turn off. I know there was a recall for the same models but for 2015.
The engine light began flashing and it was hard to drive without the car loosing speed like it was stalling out when I pressed the gas it did not get power. It smelled like burnt gas or oil and fumes where coming from under the hood. I have had it for 2 months. When I took it to autozone the code read P1326. I dont understand why other same year make and models are recalled and not this one. I will not be able to drive it because other same make and model recalls say there is potential for fire.
My driveway has a slight incline to get out of and every morning when I start to leave the car will start to jerk- like it isn't gong into gear and i have to back off the gas pedal to stop it. It is hard to describe. But it definitely should not be making that sound. Yes I can take if for inspection. When I am at a stop light or just stopped and whenever I turn the car wants to hesitate and sometimes jerks me. Transmission issue here I believe. About got hit on several times because of the engine not performing when I press the gas. When I drive on the highway for 2-4 hrs, when I get off and stop the car is like it is still on the highway. Meaning when I push on the throttle it takes off. As far as I know, when I take my car to Hyundai for oil changes and maintenance work they haven't inspected my car. Ever since I purchased the car- it has never ran right. Something for sure is wrong with the motor- When I need the turbo to work- it kicks in around 40 mile an hr- not when I put on the gas. The car just runs terrible. There is also a horrible blind spot on both sides where the mirrors are. Horrible.
Has the issue with engine already involved in a recall but doesn't include this 2016 Veloster. We've never received a single recall or bulletin for this vehicle.
My car was stolen due to the the way the ignition was produced by hyundai
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine). The contact stated that while driving at 60 - 70 mph, clicking noises were heard then the vehicle stalled. The oil pressure light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact inspected under the hood and saw oil was coming back out of the oil reservoir. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact the next available appointment would be for November 9, 2021. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnosis. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
I was driving, heard a big thunk then everything went dead. No brakes no engine control. After removing the bottom cover it appears that something broke and burst the engine bottom.block.
It is making a banging noise in the engine as if it was starting to throw a rod or bearings in the engine of this make of car. There is a recall but my VIN is not included but from what i have read on this recall sounds exactly the same as my car is doing and sounding now,
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving approximately 40-45 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle would not exceed 40-45 MPH. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving and the vehicle would make abnormal sounds while switching gears. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V746000 (Engine) however, the dealer informed the contact that the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated once while driving. My vehicle’s check engine light is on, low oil pressure light is on, the engine is knocking, it’s overheating, stalling, and loss of power and acceleration. I have almost gotten hit by other vehicles multiple times because the vehicle has stalled or won’t accelerate. This has happened on the interstate and when pulling out into traffic. I have tried for days to an appointment at multiple Hyundai locations near me to get it fixed because it has all the symptoms that the recall says to look for. I called 5 dealerships and there are no appointments available. The earliest one is a week away. Customer care is no help at all. They basically told me to figure it out on my own. I am a single mother of 2 and now I have no transportation because of their faulty engine and they are doing nothing to help fix it. What if I get hit because my engine stalls and my kids are in the car with me? What if my engine catches fire because of this? I get shut down by every dealership and they won’t even offer a loaner or rental in place of driving the death trap they sold me until they can fix it. What can I do??
while using blinkers at night when they cancel out after turn the headlights turn off
I took my 2016 Veloster in because my car was included in the rod bearing shavings possibly going back into engine and cause fire. I have since taken my car proven they didn’t pull the filters out or the oil pan to look for shavings as it’s should be check that way to ensure no findings of metal In oil. My car was in their service for over 28 hours without it being looked at. I called and somehow 15 minutes later the car is done and come get it and nothing is wrong ! I call BS my car is still a safety problem. I still have the bogging of the engine and times I press gas and car won’t move. My family owns a collision shop grew up around cars still am and there is no way you can plug a computer into the module and it show you metal shavings. Can only be done by removing filter cutting it open and pulling the oil pan. I asked to see it and the refused ! I am not happy with my car and how it cannot drive normal and it’s a serious safety concern. I want my engine replaced as the recall states or replace my entire car I’m filing a law suit against Hyundai and their lack Of concern or lying and not properly handling such a Serious recall. Till you pull my engine and prove to me there is zero unwanted metal in my engine I will continue to contact news shows the news papers and motor trend. I refuse to be treated like I’m an idiot when I had questions and asked them about the pan being pulled and filter removed they said we only need to connect it to the computer. That’s a lie you cannot get metal settlement from a computer !! I have now had 2 other mechanics look at it and they will testify my engine needs to be pulled out replaced and or get me into a safe car or the lawsuit will only cost Hyundai
Brakes intermittently malfunction - when issue occurs, brake pedal will loosely sink to floor without slowing the car down and will only engage suddenly when the pedal is pressed all the way to the bottom. Safety of driver, other drivers, and pedestrians are put at risk because the car cannot be reliably stopped. In the latest incident, the driver could not get the brakes to engage and had to swerve the vehicle into the sidewalk to avoid pedestrians. The malfunction occurs randomly, mostly in stop-and-go situations (traffic, stop signs, parking lot, traffic lights, etc.). Malfunction has persisted for the last 8 months. There has been 3 attempts to fix by the dealership from which the car was purchased - replacing brake pads and rotors, flushing the brake line, and replacing the ABS system. The dealership was able to replicate the issue. The issue has returned after every fix attempt and vehicle is with the dealership for a fourth attempt. No warnings or messages have come up from the vehicle to indicate the issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving at 40 mph, the oil pressure warning light illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and check the oil and noticed the oil was low. The driver placed oil in the vehicle to continue to drive to their residence. After few days the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have an oil change done on the vehicle but the failure persisted several times. The contact then received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 20V746000 (Engine) which took their vehicle to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected due to the contact concerns that the failure on the vehicle was related to the recall. The dealer inspected the vehicle and stated the vehicle was fine but they did not place the Knock sensor detection system software on the vehicle as part of the recall repair remedy. After a few weeks, the contact was driving back to the residence when they heard a knocking noise coming from their vehicle, the vehicle lost motive power, and stalled in front of their residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.
I have a recall on my 2016 Veloster Nav And Hyundai hasn’t fix it, I drive my car everyday to go to work and i feel that my car is going to die soon, it’s feels unsafe, I would like to fix my car and I have call the dealership and they haven’t say anything about this just to wait, I can’t wait my car is my toll to go work
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle a clicking noise was present coming from the engine and the vehicle had stalled. WHILE DRIVING 60 MILES AN HOUR ON THE INTERSTATE HEADING TO WORK I BEGIN TO HEAR A KNOCKING FROM MY ENGINE. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE I BEGIN TO SMELL SMOKE. I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE INTO THE NEAREST GAS STATION AND TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. I CHECKED THE OIL JUST TO MAKE SURE BECAUSE OF THE SMELL AND THE OIL WAS DEPLETED. I PUT THREE LAYERS OF OIL INTO MY CAR SO I COULD GET IT STARTED ENOUGH TO GET IT TO THE EXPRESS OIL CHANGE NEARBY. I DROPPED MY CAR OFF THERE AND THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE HAD FAILED. I MADE A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALER WHO FINALLY CONTACTED ME BACK TODAY SAYING THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR AND LET ME KNOW IF IT WAS PART OF THE RECALL. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY HYUNDAI OR MY DEALERSHIP THAT MY ENGINE WAS RECALLED. I CURRENTLY AM WITHOUT A CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT A SERVICE VEHICLE MAY BE PROVIDED IF IT'S DEEMED THAT MY ENGINE FAILED DUE TO THE RECALLED ISSUE. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT $200 IN UBER RIDES.

CURRENTLY WAITING ON A REMEDY FOR THIS VEHICLE, THE RECALL WAS ISSUED ON DEC 1, 2020, STILL NO REMEDY AVAILABLE NOR ANY HELP OR INFORMATION FROM ANY OF THE DEALERSHIPS AROUND ME. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WASN'T EVEN AWARE OF THE RECALL.
THE PLUG BEHIND THE AC CONTROL PANEL (THE BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH) HAS MELTED BECAUSE THE CURRENT ISN'T BEING CONDUCTED PROPERLY. THIS ISSUE STARTED MONTHS AGO WHEN I NOTICED THE AC CONTROL KNOB WAS GETTING STUCK & STOPPED WORKING ON THE NUMBERS. THIS LAST WEEK I SMELT SMOKE COMING FROM THE AC CONTROL PANEL, WHICH IS WHAT LED ME TO REMOVE THE CONSOLE TO SEE BEHIND. APPARENTLY, THIS IIS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT OF THE 2012-2016 VELOSTERS & SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR DASH SET ON FIRE BEFORE. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY IF THE CAR WERE EVER TO SET FIRE BECAUSE OF THIS DESIGN FLAW & I WERE DRIVING. I, & OTHER PEOPLE, COULD DIE FROM THIS. HYUNDAI HAS NEVER ISSUED A RECALL OR ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE.
THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH A TICKING NOISE. I CHANGED THE OIL HOPING THAT THIS WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE BUT NOTHING CHANGED. SO, ON THE WAY HOME FROM RUNNING ERRANDS I HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR MADE A BUNCH OF LOUD NOISES AND THEN STALLED. IT ALSO BEGAN LEAKING OIL. I REMOVED THE PANEL FROM UNDERNEATH TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND SAW A BUNCH OF ALUMINUM FRAGMENTS ALL OVER THE PANEL.

MY CAR HESITATED FROM A STOP SIGN, THEN LAUNCHED FORWARD CAUSING IT TO UNCONTROLLABLY JUMP FORWARD VERY FAST. WHEN I WENT TO HIT THE BRAKES THEY FAILED TO ACTIVE, AND HAD TO PULL THE E BRAKE. THE CAR HAS HAD A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE TCM ON MY DCT TRANSMISSION BUT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO NOT BE ABLE TO BE FIXED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, AND COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT OR DEATH.
LEAKING!! VERY DANGEROUSLY
MY CAR IS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION AND BRAKES & SUSPENSION. SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS GOING TO STOP IF I DON'T PRESS THE GAS IS REALLY NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE NOBODY LIKE TO DRIVE MY CAR THEY SAID THE SUSPENSION IS HORRIBLE AND NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE ON TRANSMISSION.

CAR MAKING A LOT OF SOUND WHEN TURNING OFF AND ON IT'S COMING FROM THE ENGINE ALSO STALLED WHILE DRIVING. WAS TOLD THERE'S A RECALL BUT STILL NOTHING DONE ABOUT IT SCARED TK DRIVE MY OWN CAR THAT I PAY FOR.
PLEASE REFER TO RECALL NUMBER 198 FOR A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER, I AM UNABLE TO SELL MY CAR BECAUSE OF THE RECALL.
IT'S MAKING A LOT OF NOISE, WHEN I TURN MY CAR ON, WHEN I TURN IT OFF AND EVEN WHEN I'M DRIVING IT, IT THE SOUND IT'S COMING FROM THE ENGINE, I GOT MY CAR IN A DEALERSHIP 1MONTH AGO AND IT HAS 34,516 MILES
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN IT STARTED SMOKING AND THEN SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN HIGHWAY 195 IN TEXAS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO EUROPE SERVICES IN KILLEEN, TX AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENGINE IS BLOWN OUT. WE ARE UNABLE TO FIND A NEW ENGINE ANYWHERE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THAT THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF MY CAR HAD A RECALL WITH PREMATURE ENGINE ISSUES.
IS BURNING TO MUCH OIL AND MOSTLY TIMES SMOKE MY CAR JUST HAVE 110,543 MILES...
ENGINE STALLS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND TURNED OUT IT'S THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD, I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING ISSUES LIKE THIS YET
ATTEMPTED TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPACE REVERSE NO LONGER WORKED. PUSHED VEHICLE OUT OF PARKING AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FORWARD TO GET CAR HOME. WHEN IN DRIVE IT IS JERKY AS GEARS SHIFTS. IT IS TO SLOW TO SHIFT, SLOW TO ENGAGE GEARS, ONCE SHIFT IS COMPLETE HESITATES LOW TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD THEN JERKS FORWARD VERY AGGRESSIVELY.
TL* THE CONTACT 'S SON OWNED A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED ON 06/02/20. A MONTH LATER THE VEHICLE STALLED, WHILE THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (MAUS NISSAN OF CRYSTAL RIVER 937 S SUNCOAST BLVD, HOMOSASSA, FL 34448 (352) 592-6287). THEY FOUND THREE CODES THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, THE FUEL INJECTOR, AND THE COILS . THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED HOME AND THE CONTACT'S SON ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE VEHICLE ON HIS OWN. HE APPLIED A FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER CLEANER AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE ISSUES OCCURRED AGAIN ON 09/03/20 WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SMOKE WHILE TRAVELLING AT 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE SON OPENED THE HOOD . SMOKE CAME OUT AND THEN FLAMES BURST FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS SOON ENGULFED AND THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS BURNED DOWN. THE FLAMES WERE PUT OUT BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. A POLICE REPORT AND A FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES THAT REQUIRED TRANSPORT BY AN AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND THE WRECKAGE WAS TOWED AWAY. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
THE METAL COMPONENTS OF THE AIR CONDITIONER/HEATER BLOWER SWITCH MELTS ON THE INSIDE CREATING A FIRE HAZARD.
AIR BAG SENSOR IN CUSHION ON PASSENGER SEAT DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES. VEHICLE IS EITHER IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. LIGHT COMES ON FOR A WEEK AND THEN GOES AWAY FOR MONTHS AND COMES BACK AGAIN. MILEAGE SINCE I NOTICE IT WAS 48000. HYUNDAI SAID THE SEAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. THIS MAKES NO SENSE THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE COVERED ESPECIALLY SINCE THE SEATS IN MY CAR HAVE NEVER BEEN TOUCHED OR REPLACED THEY HAVE THE SAME SEATS THAT CAME WITH THE CAR. SO THIS FAULTY SYSTEM SHOULD BE REPLACED BY THE COMPANY. NOTICED IN THE COMPLAINTS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUES SEEMS LIKE IT.
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND UPON STEPPING ON THE GAS, I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT WAS MAKING A HUMMING SOUND SIMILAR TO IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. I CANNOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY POWER WHEN SHIFTING INTO SPORT MODE GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. IT MAKES AN ODD NOISE. I FELT CAR HICCUP AT FIRST WHEN ACCELERATING. THIS COULD BE A DCT ISSUE AND COULD BE SAFETY ISSUE ALSO. CAR IS AT APPROX 77,000 MILES AT THIS TIME. SIMILAR ACCELERATION ISSUES REPORTED WITH THIS VEHICLE BY MYSELF PRIOR ALTHOUGH NOT THIS SEVERE AND SPORT MODE WAS WORKING FINE. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSES TO BOTTOM AND DOES NOT STOP THE CAR WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TR
I HAVE HAD 4 HVAC CONTROL HEADS BURN OUT BETWEEN A 2012 VELOSTER AND MY CURRENT 2016 VELOSTER I PURCHASED AFTER THE 2012 WAS TOTALLED. THE PART IS BURNING OUT BECAUSE IT OVERHEATS AND IS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT CAUSES EVEN GREATER DAMAGE AND RISK OF INJURY IN THE FUTURE IF NOT ADDRESSED.
WHEN CAR IS PUT INTO REVERSE THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE RPMS GO UP . HAD THIS ISSUE AROUND 9K MILES 16K MILES AND AT 21K MILES CAR HAS TO BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED FOR REVERSE TO WORK AGAIN. DURING FIRST STARTUP OF CAR IN GARAGE , ONCE TRYING TO REVERSE OUT OF PARKING LOT DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE BUT HAVE 2 DIFFERENT VIDEOS OF TIMES IT DID THIS.
ON 1/12/2020, WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WITHIN A MINUTE FIRE ERUPTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MILES AN HOUR IN VERY LIGHT TRAFFIC. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THEY DETERMINED ONSITE THAT THE FIRE WAS DUE TO A FUEL LEAK. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. PRIOR TO THIS ON 10/3/2019 I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GAS. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND SAID THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY DID NOT IDENTIFY ANY GAS LEAK. WE HAVE CONTACTED THEM SINCE THE FIRE AND THEY ARE DENYING ANY RESPONSIBILITY. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER VEHICLE FIRES REPORTED ON HYUNDAIS.
VELOSTER HYUNDAI'S 7-SPEED DCT CONTAINS A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) THAT CAUSES, AMONG OTHER PROBLEMS, FAILURE TO SHIFT, STALLING, DELAYED ACCELERATION, OR LOSS OF POWER. 'THESE CONDITIONS ARE HAZARDOUS BECAUSE THEY SEVERELY AFFECT THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND PREVENT DRIVERS FROM ACCELERATING TO MAINTAIN SAFE SPEEDS IN TRAFFIC,'
FRONT PASSENGER EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS INOPERATIVE, DOOR MUST BE OPENED USING INTERIOR HANDLE, REGARDLESS OF LOCK STATUS.
WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT HEATER INSTANTLY OVERHEATED WITHIN SECONDS AFTER TURNING IT ON. *BF*JB
I WAS SITTING IN A LINE OF CARS TO GET ON THE FREEWAY I MERGE INTO TRAFFIC TO HAVE THE CAR STUMBLE AND JUMP AND WONT GO, I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED WHEN THE CAR DECIDED TO TAKE OFF LIKE A ROCKET AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2016 AND HAS CONTINUED TO GET WORSE, THIS WAS THE FIRST INCIDENT ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER I GOT IT, I TOOK IT IN THE DEALER, THEY HAD A RECALL AND FIXED IT FOR A WHILE, THEN THIS SAME THING HAPPENS ALL THE TIME ON A DAILY BASIS, UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ITS DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE CAR IS OR ISNT GOING TO DO, WILL IT GO WHEN I NEED IT TO ? OR STALL THATS THE HUGE QUESTION, I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THEY ALL DRIVE LIKE THAT AND THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT OR WHAT TO DO, I HAVE GOTTEN RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT ONLY WHEN I HAVE TO BECAUSE IM AFRAID IT WILL STALL OR LEAVE ME STRANDED, THIS MORNING IM COMING TO WORK AND STOPPED AT A SIGN, THEN WHEN IT WAS CLEAR I GO WELL NO I DONT BECAUSE THE CAR ACTED LIKE IT WAS STUCK, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND IT FINALLY CAUGHT AND TOOK OFF, I AM A VERY CAUTIOUS DRIVER SO ALL OF THIS HAPPENING IM EXTREMELY CAREFUL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, BUT SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE
PREVIOUS COMPLAINT # NHTSA FOR THIS ISSUE IS 11254423.
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP FOR THE LAST YEAR. THE CAR HAS SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION WHEN TURNING ON MY AC AND LIGHTS. THE GAS MILEAGE HAS DROPPED FROM 30MPG TO 17 MPG. THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD WHEN TAKING OF AND STARTING. I WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WHERE THE ISSUES PARTIALLY CAUSED ME TO REAR END SOMEONE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. IN THE VEHICLE INSPECTION THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOUND THE FRAME TWISTED. THE ACCIDENT WAS A LOW SPEED COLLISION WHERE NO ONE WAS INJURED OTHER THEN MYSELF AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME A LATE 90'S EARLY 20'S LEXUS CAR RED IN COLOR HAD LITTLE DAMAGE. HYUNDAI IS UNWILLING TO HELP ME WITH THE ISSUES PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND I WAS TSEEN AND REATED FOR CHEMICAL BURN FROM THE AIRBAG
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE AC CONTROL MODULE 2 TIMES ALREADY. THE UNIT BURNS OUT AND MELTS THE PLASTIC CONNECTORS THAT PLUG INTO THE BACK OF THE PANEL. THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE WITHIN THE VELSOTER COMMUNITY. AND HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THE 2013 VELSOTERS. THIS REALLY NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AS DO TO YOU CAN ONLY BUY THIS PART AT THE DEALER FOR $279.99
PARKING BRAKE LIGHT IS COMING ON WHILE BRAKING
SO WHEN LEAVING FROM A COMPLETE STOP IN DRIVE LETTING OFF THE BRAKE PETAL, AND LETTING THE VEHICLE START ROLLING ITSELF IN DRIVE WILL START VIBRATING AND MAKING CLUNKING METAL NOISES. WILL KEEP DOING IT UNLESS I EITHER DO TWO OF THE FOLLOWING THINGS STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR PETAL, OR PUSH ON THE BREAKS AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AND WHEN THE VEHICLES FRONT WHEELS ARE TURNED WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP IT'S 2 TIMES WORSE. IT DOES IT ABOUT 2-3 TIMES DAILY. I'VE TAKEN IT TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP TO FIX UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THEY CLAIM THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL. DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE THO BECAUSE OF THE PERSISTENT PROBLEM I KEEP FACING. PLEASE MAYBE LOOK INTO THIS AS SOMETHING SEND NOT RIGHT.
UPON TURNING AND GOING OVER ANY KIND OF SIGNIFICANT BUMPS OR UNEVEN SURFACES THE VEHICLE FISH-TALES FROM THE BACK. I HAVE TRIED IT ON DIFFERENT STREETS TO ENSURE ITS THE SAME ISSUE AND THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY DUE TO A SMALL PATCH OF UNEVEN ROAD. I HAVE DRIVEN OTHER VEHICLES OVER THE SAME FREEWAY SPOT TO ENSURE IT WAST JUST MY VEHICLE BUT DID NOT GET THE SAME ISSUES AS I DO WITH MY VEHICLE. ALSO WHEN COMING TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP AND THEN PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE CORRECTLY, EITHER IT WAITS TO ENGAGE AFTER THE CAR REACHES 4,000 RPM OR JERKS SUDDENLY INTO GEAR BOTH OCCUR ARE ON A DAILY BASIS. ANOTHER KEY PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE HAPPENS WHEN TAKING MY FOOT FIRMLY OFF THE BRAKE AND PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR ON A HILL, PER THE MANUFACTURER THE VEHICLE IS SUPPOSE TO WAIT ABOUT 15-20 SECONDS ON A HILL TO ALLOW ME TIME TO STEP ON THE GAS TO GET THE VEHICLE MOVING AND PREVENT ROLLBACK INTO TRAFFIC OR OBSTACLES BEHIND ME HOWEVER IT IS EITHER NOT WORKING CORRECTLY OR DEFECTIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING IN RAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 22 MPH, THE DRIVER HYDROPLANED AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. DURING THE INCIDENT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BUT NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A FACE CONTUSION AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS SOUGHT. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY AS IT WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER KEY HYUNDAI OF MILFORD (566 BRIDGEPORT AVE MILFORD CT.) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
THE INTERIOR COLOR COATING ON DASH STARTED PEELING ON DRIVERS SIDE (SMALL SPOT AREA) IN 2017. DRIVERS SIDE DOOR PANEL AND WINDOW BUTTON AREA IS NOW PEELING. CORNCERNED THIS WILL OCCUR THROUGHOUT VEHICLE AND STILL INVESTING IN THIS CAR. TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT, NO REASON FOR PEELING.
TRUNK RELEASE KEEPS UNLOCKING AND MAKING SOUND WHEN I START CAR OR STOP CAR. SOMETIMES UNABLE TO OPEN TRUNK AS WELL. SAFETY ISSUE. APPEARS TO BE ISSUE MECHANICALLY AND HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE, CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN, AND CROSSED THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT LOT. THE CONTACT CALLED MIKE MILLER HYUNDAI (2007 W PIONEER PKWY, PEORIA, IL 61615, (888) 372-7350) AND LEFT A VOICE MESSAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER (19,038 MILES). UNIT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. RECENTLY, SAME EXACT PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, STALLED, HAD VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP SAYS FAILED CATALYTIC CONVERTER LED TO LOWER ENGINE FAILURE. REPORTED UNIT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WOULD BE OVER A MONTH TO GET A SHORT BLOCK FOR REPLACEMENT. AFTER READING ABOUT OTHER MODELS WITH EXCESSIVE EXHAUST TEMPS CAUSING FAILURES, I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS GOING TO REOCCUR. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF CATALYTIC CONVERTERS FAILING ON NEW CARS AND CERTAINLY NOT TWICE WITH UNDER 30,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. SECOND FAILURE HAPPENED SATURDAY FEB 16, 2019. CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP.
CAR KEEPS DYING BECAUSE LATCH TO THE BACK TRUNK WOULD UNLOCK ITSELF CONTINUOUSLY AND EVEN MORE WHEN COLD .IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS OF TAKING MY CAR BACK AND STILL NO ANSWER UNTIL YESTERDAY 2/19/19 THE DEALER SHIP SAID ITS MY CAMERA NOW KILLING MY BATTERY.THROUGH IT ALL THE DEALER SHIP WOULD KEEP MY CAR AND I WAS LEFT WITHOUT A LOANER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE REVERSING INTO THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN ABNORMAL NOISE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,784.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE SUN ROOF SUDDENLY SHATTERED AND GLASS FELL INTO THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE SUN ROOF WAS IN THE TILTED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAMELBACK HYUNDAI (1500 EAST CAMEL BACK RD, PHOENIX, AZ) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS PRIMARILY OCCURS WHEN FIRST STARTING THE CAR AND SHIFTING INTO REVERSE. THE SHIFTER WILL GO INTO PLACE BUT THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATER. SO FAR THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ABLE TO BE RESOLVED BY PUTTING IT BACK IN PARK, TURNING OFF THE CAR, AND RESTARTING IT.
PROBLEMS BEGAN APRIL 2017 WHEN I PLACED MY CAR IN GEAR AND IT DIDN'T MOVE. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THEN BACK IN GEAR AND THE PROBLEM RESOLVED ITSELF. I DIDN'T THINK OF REPORTING IT AT THE TIME. OCT 2017, WHILE DECELERATING TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE RPMS SHOT UP TO 6500 AND THEN BACK DOWN. THEN BEGINNING ABOUT FEBRUARY I WOULD PLACE MY VEHICLE IN GEAR (BOTH REVERSE AND DRIVE) AND IT WOULDN'T ENGAGE. I RECORDED THESE, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IN MAY THEY REPLACED THE SHIFT ACTUATOR AND SAID THAT WOULD FIX IT. THEN THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN JUNE SAYING THAT WOULD FIX IT. THEY REPLACED THE TCM AND TAC AND SAID THAT WOULD FIX IT JUST TWO WEEKS AGO, AND AGAIN I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
FYI ONLY (NOT A COMPLAINT). WHEN USING A DRIVERS AND/OR THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT (SIMI-RIGID) FOAM MICTO-FIBER "CUSHION", THE AIRBAG SEAT SENSOR WILL NOT BECOME ENGAGED IIN A 2016 HYUNDAI 'VELOSTER', THUS, THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM WILL REMAIN DISENGAGED.
IN SEPTEMBER 2017 I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN WHERE MY 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER BASE WAS T-BONED ON THE RIGHT REAR SIDE BY AN INFINITI SUV. I HAD FILED A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WITH THE CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY GENERAL AGAINST HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA AND ALSO A COMPLAINT AGAINST HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA THEMSELVES. MY COMPLAINT WAS BASED ON THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS STRUCK AT A SPEED OF GREATER THAN 30 MILES PER HOUR AND LESS THAN 60 MILES PER HOUR AND THAT THE DAMAGES DONE TO MY VEHICLE WERE RIGHT ON THE RIGHT REAR AIRBAG SENSOR BUT NONE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THERE HAS ALSO BEEN A LINGERING ODOR OF LEAKING GAS BUT HYUNDAI REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO TAKE FAULT. SINCE THAT I HAVE HAD SEVERE MIGRAINES AND DEVELOPED REALLY BAD ARTHRITIS IN BOTH ARMS AND BOTH SHOULDERS. MY PREVIOUS INSURANCE COMPANY PAID OUT MORE MONEY TO THE PEOPLE THAT HIS ME AND DEEMED THE ACCIDENT A 50/50 FAULT ON BOTH PARTIES. EVEN THOUGH THE FAULT WAS ON BOTH PARTIES, THAT HAS NO BEARING ON A FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR NOR DOES IT HAVE ANY BEARING ON HYUNDAI'S RIGHT TO NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. WHAT I HAD REQUESTED OF HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA PREVIOUSLY WAS PAYOFF OF MY CURRENT VEHICLE OR A NEW VEHICLE THAT DOESN'T HAVE FAULTY EQUIPMENT.
CAR IS NOW HESITATING UPON ACCELERATION AND SOUNDING LOUDER THAN USUAL AS WELL. RPM IS NOT MOVING UP MUCH AND HARDER TO SPEED UP, EVEN IN SPORT MODE. DANGEROUS WHEN NEEDING TO GO AT RELATIVELY HIGH SPEEDS (ONTO HIGHWAY ONRAMPS ETC)
AT APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES CURRENTLY AND PROPER DOCUMENTED MAINTENANCE AND CHECK REQUESTS ON VEHICLE, THIS CAR APPEARS TO NOT STOP AS IT SHOULD WHILE IN MOTION WHETHER AT HIGH SPEEDS OR LOW SPEEDS AND "SURGES" AND REQUIRES A LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE WHICH IS APPARENT IN ANY DRIVING WEATHER CONDITIONS. NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF BRAKE WEAR OR REPLACEMENT NEEDS. NO INDICATOR SOUNDS.
THE DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY. I TOOK OFF FROM A PARKING LOT INTENDING TO TUEN LEFT ON TO THE STREET. I WAS CUT OFF BY A TRUCK COMING INTO THE PARKING LOT AND HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES QUICKLY. ONCE THE TRUCK PASSED THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. IT JUST REVVED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL WITH THE SHIFT LEVER IN DRIVE.THERE WAS TRAFFIC COMING MY WAY AS I SAT IN THE STRRET BUT THE VEHICLE FINALLY GOT BACK IN GEAR. THE OTHER DAY I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR AHEAD STOPPED SUDDENLY AND I HAD TO BRAKE. WHEN I LOOKED THE CAR WAS IN 3RD GEAR ACCORDING TO THE DASH DISPLAY. THE TRANSMISSION LAGSAND SOMETIMES DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR IT IS IN IF YOU CREEP AT A RED LIGHT. THE RECALL HAS MADE IT WORSE AND NOW THE DEALER REFUSES TO COMMUNICATE OR SET UP A SERVICE APPOINTMENT BECAUSE I AM IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST HYUNDAI. I WAS SENT A VIDEO BY HYUNDAI SHOWING HOW YOU HAVE TO MODIFY YOUR DRIVING HABITS OF 56 YEARS. I WAS NEVER INSTRUCTED OF THIS AT PURCHASE OR TOLD ABOUT IT. IT IS VERY SCARY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE NO OTHER OPTION OTHER THAN VOLUNTARY REPOSESSION.
RECALL INFORMATION: FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS, I HAVE SPOKEN TO MY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP REGARDING MY AIR- CONDITIONING. I KNOW IT IS NOT AN AIR-CONDITIONING PROBLEM, BUT THAT OF A REGULATOR OR THERMISTER GOING BAD. WHILE DRIVING,THE AIR CONDITIONING WILL BE FUNCTIONING FINE WITH VERY COLD AIR. THEN AT A RANDOM OR AT INTERMITTENT TIMES WILL START TO BLOW EXTREMELY HOT "OVEN LIKE" AIR. I THEN TURN THE AIR-CONDITIONER OFF. IT WILL THEN AT A LATER TIME BLOW COLD AIR AGAIN. I AM SCARED THE CAR WILL SERIOUSLY OVERHEAT AS THE AIR IS SO INTENTLY HOT. I AM VERY GOOD FRIENDS WITH A MECHANIC THAT WITHIN THE PAST YEAR RETIRED FROM HYUNDAI FOR MOST OF HIS CAREER OF 30 YRS. AND THAT WHAT HE ADVISED ME TO INQUIRE ABOUT THESE PARTS. MY SISTER WITHIN THE PAST YEAR HAS BOUGHT A 2017 TUSCON/ SHE JUST HAD THE SAME EXACT SITUATION I DO WITH HER AIR-CONDITIONING AND THEY HAD A RECALL ON HER THERMISTER RECENTLY. THE THERNISTER WAS CHANGED AND PROBLEM SOLVED. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES. THE RESPONSE WHEN I TAKE MY CAR IN IS THAT NO CODE COMES UP SO WE CAN'T FIX OR CHANGE ANYTHING. THEY STICK A THERMOMETER IN THE AIR VENTS AND SAY ALL IS BLOWING THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE. SO, NOW IT'S OVER 95 DEGREES WITH A HEAT INDEX OVER 100 DEGREES IN NEW ORLEANS AND MY AIR-CONDITIONING WILL BLOW INTERMITTENTLY OVEN HOT AIR. EVEN IF IT IS BLOWING THE HOT AIR, HOW CAN I POSSIBLY DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY TIME IT DOES THIS AND THEN CEASES. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT. SO I NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT IS THE COURSE OF EVENTS TO GET THIS SITUATION SOLVED AS MY DEALERSHIP IS UNWILLINGLY TO PURSUE ANY TYPE OF RESOLUTION TO MY SITUATION. I CAN SAY, I WILL NEVER BE BUYING A HYUNDAI PRODUCT AGAIN...AS BELOW THE DATES HAPPEN RANDOMLY...NO SPECIFIC DATE...MILEAGE IS ROUNDED OF TO APPROXIMATE...
VELOSTER TURBO DCT MODEL. WHEN THE CAR ISN'T FULLY WARMED UP, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER UPON MEDIUM TO HARD ACCELERATION. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR INCREASES ENGINE REVS AND TRANSMISSION ACTUALLY SHIFTS, BUT NO POWER IS BEING PUT TO THE WHEELS. YOU HAVE TO FULLY LIFT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND THEN DEPRESS AGAIN TO GET POWER BACK. FOR EXAMPLE, ACCELERATING TO MERGE INTO FREEWAY TRAFFIC IS DANGEROUS AS IT LOSES POWER AS YOU ARE MERGING AND COULD EASILY BE REAR ENDED. OR TURNING LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC, IF THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER MID TURN YOU COULD BE HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU HAVE MEDIUM TO HARD ACCELERATION WHEN THE VEHICLE ISN'T FULLY WARMED UP. HAS HAPPENED TOO MANY TIMES TO NUMBER. THERE IS VIDEO DOCUMENTATION ON THE INTERNET OF SAME PROBLEM.
TAKATA AIRBAG IN STEERING WHEEL DIDN'T WORK. SUFFERED BRAIN INJURY. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION GOING OVER 50 MPH ON JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA I95, HIT MEDIAN HEAD ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT FROM THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED A FUEL ODOR AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO RICK CASE HYUNDAI (3550 WESTON RD, DAVIE, FL, (954) 994-2397) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
[XXX] WAS IN A CAR CRASH AND HIS AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CRASH REPORT NUMBER IS [XXX], COMPLETED BY THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE CAR HESITATES, THEN JUMPS FORWARD, THAT HESITATES AGAIN BEFORE ACCELERATING NORMALLY. THIS IS THE USUAL BEHAVIOR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, WHETHER ACCELERATING RAPIDLY OR SMOOTHLY. THE BEHAVIOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. THE DEALER CLAIMS IT IS NORMAL BEHAVIOR BUT IT IS A BEHAVIOR I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED OTHER CARS.
CAR WAS T-BONED AT 60 MPH ON REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WHILE HAVING BACKPACK THAT WEIGHED IN EXCESS OF 65LBS IN REAR PASSENGER (RIGHT SIDE)AND NO RIGHT SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED EVEN THOUGH THE IMPACT WAS RIGHT AT THE AIRBAG SENSOR. IMMEDIATELY AFTER ACCIDENT CARBDROVE FINE FOR ABOUT 1 HOIUR AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTED TO HESITATE DURING ACCELERATION. CAR WAS IN SHOP FOR ROUGGHLY 22 DAYS AND WHEN CAR CAME OUT OF BODY SHOP CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND TURN OFF FREQUENTLY.
MY SUNROOF EXPLODED SPONTANEOUSLY WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE DOWN THE INTERSTATE. NOTHING HIT MY CAR OR SUNROOF. IT JUST EXPLODED. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE IT WAS A HOT DAY AND THAT I WAS RUNNING MY AIR CONDITIONER, THAT GLASS CAN "SWELL AND BREAK ON ITS OWN". THE SUNROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME. IT WAS TERRIFYING, I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN SHOT. I WAS COVERED IN GLASS AS WAS MY CAR. IT HAS SINCE BEEN REPLACED, BUT I DRIVE IN FEAR OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN.
EXPERIENCE SHIFTING PROBLEMS, HESITATING ACCELERATION, LOSS OF POWER . VERY ON SAFE WHEN DRIVING TRYING TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING SCINCE DAY ONE OF BUYING THE CAR NEW
BEEN A YEAR FIGHTING HYUNDAI AND WENT TO ARBITRATION YESTERDAY. STILL SAYING ISOLATED INCIDENT AND CAR IS FUNCTIONING AS INTENDED ALRHOUGH THEY PAID FOR A 2ND TRANSMISSION AT 12K MILES. STILL MISSING SHIFTS, REVING UP TO REDLINE WHILE NOT PICKING UP SPEEF AND CUTTING OUT WHILE PULLING FROM STOPS INTO TRAFFIC. SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN TO SAY THE LEAST. IF THE DCT FAILED AND IS PART OF THE LARGEST RECALL IN HYUNDAI HISTORY, DON'T YOU THINGTHEY SHOULD BE TAKING A LOOK AT OUR DCT TRANSMISSIONS? I FEEL SWEPT UNDER THE RUG AND MY CONCERNS FOR OUR FAMILIES SAFETY ATE BEING OVERLOOKED. I FOUND QUITE A FEE OWNERS ON THE VELOSTER NATION AND OHIO VELOSTER FORUMS WITH EXACT COMPLAINTS. HYUNDAI REFUSED MY SUBMISSIONS FROM THESE FORUMS AS WELL AS NHTSA COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME NATURE. SHAMEFUL ON THEIR PART.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S REARVIEW CAMERA WAS ALERTING HER TO CHECK THE SURROUNDINGS AND EMITTED A HUMMING NOISE INDICATING THE CAMERA WAS ACTIVE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. THE REARVIEW CAMERA WAS ONLY MEANT TO BE OPERABLE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE. THE SCREEN THAT THE CAMERA DISPLAYED THE VEHICLE'S SURROUNDINGS ON WAS THE SAME SCREEN WHERE THE RADIO WAS LOCATED. DURING THE FAILURE, THE RADIO WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES. ALSO, THE BLUETOOTH THAT OPERATED FROM THE SAME COMPUTER SYSTEM FAILED TO TURN OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,500. ...UPDATED 11/12/17/*BF CONSUMER STATED REAR CAMERA TURNS ON IN DRIVE SHOWING RED LINES. ALSO, NOT REPORTED - SOUND COMING FROM RADIO/ OR NEAR RADIO WHEN STARTING CAR OR WHEN I GET IN CAR IN AM OR WHEN GETTING OUR OF CAR. SOUNDS LIKE A "BUZZING" OR HUMMING SOUND WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO CAMERA/ ON SCREEN ISSUE. UPDATED 7/25/18*JB
THE VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO PERFORM MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. TAKE OFF FROM A LIGHT AND ABOUT 3RD GEAR THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE BUT RPMS WILL RISE AND WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO RED LINE, FOOT ON GAS PEDAL BUT NO CORRELATING ACCELERATION, KICKS IN MOMENT LATER WITH A JERK. CAR HAS HAD TWO DCT UPDATES, ONE ENGINE UPDATE ALL HAVE NOT FIXED THE JERK ACCELERATION AND SPORADIC UNABLENESS TO GET VEHICLE GOING BUT RPMS RISE. CAR HAS GOTTEN STUCK IN GEAR WHEN MERGING ONTO FREEWAY, THE CAR HAS HAD ITS RPMS RISE CONTINUOUS TO RED LINE WHILE FOOT WAS ENTIRELY OFF THE GAS PEDAL THEN RPMS FELL AND ACCELERATION FUCNTION RESUMED. NO REAL HELP FROM HYUNDAI AS OF YET OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF A PROBLEM. ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THEM SINCE 2016. THIS ISSUE HAS ALSO OCCURED ON HIGHWAYS WHILE IN A HIGHER GEAR AS WELL AS INTERSECTIONS AT LOWER GEAR. GEARS SHIFT EFFORLTESSLY AND SMOOTH SOMEDAYS AND ERADICT AND UNRELIABLE OTHER DAYS. ALSO HAS FAILED TO ACCELERATE AFTER RED LIGHT RIGHT TURNS THAT COULD CLEARLY BE MADE, HOWEVER WHEN THE VEHICLE GETS STUCK AND WONT ACCELERATE THE RISK OF GETTING HIT OR REAR ENDED IS OF HIGH PROBABLILITY AND CONCERN. ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WILL HAPPEN. ISSUE OCCURS SPORADICALLY (AVG COUPLE TIMES A MONTH) SINCE JUNE 2016 WHICH MAKES IT HARD TO DUPLICATE BUT IT OCCURS AND IS WITHOUT A DOUBT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE CAR IS NOT FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. PROUD MILITARY FAMILY IN THIS OUR SOLE VEHICLE, WHICH IS NOT GETTING THE ATTENTION IT NEEDS FROM HYUNDAI IN REGARDS TO THIS MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. CANT BELIEVE THEY KEEP SENDING US OFF IN THIS DEATH TRAP SAYING THEY UPDATED IT AND IT SHOULD FIX OUR ISSUE. THEY ARE AWARE AND THEY DO NOTHING TO MAKE PROGRESS ON THIS ISSUE OR ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE FAMILIES IN THEIR VEHICHLES WHEN THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE HAS PRESENTED ITSELF IN OTHERS VELOSTERS AS WELL.
MY HUSBAND AND I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BACK IN APRIL 2017. EVER SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WE HAVE BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE STALLING WHEN PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTING VERY BIZARRE AND MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH FEEL EERIE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE EVEN FOR SHORT DISTANCES. WE HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AROUND 12-15 TIMES AND EACH TIME LEAVE WITH NO RESOLUTION OR CARE. WE GO TO THE HUMBLE HYUNDAI IN TEXAS. WE HAVE HAD SO MANY SITUATIONS WHERE THEY JUST SEND US HOME, PUT US IN A LOANER WHILE THE CAR STAYS PARKED, ETC. WE HAVE PULLED ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND TRAFFIC HAD TO STOP SO THEY WOULDN'T HIT US, WE HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER AND PUT THE HAZARD LIGHTS ON, WE ALSO HAVE ONE INCIDENT ON FILM. I JUST DON'T WANT TO CONTINUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND/OR THE COMPANY BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE WE HAVE BEEN PUT ON THE BACK BURNER AND OUR LIVES DON'T MATTER, ONLY OUR MONEY. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME THROUGH EMAIL DURING BUSINESS HOURS DUE TO MY JOB. [XXX] MY CELL PHONE IS [XXX]- I AM AVAILABLE BEFORE 8 AND AFTER 5:30 .. ATTACHED IS 1 OF MANY REPAIR ORDERS THAT THEY GAVE US AND SENT US AWAY. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).'*JB
MY CAR OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUT AND I'M UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. VERY DANGEROUS IF TRYING TO MERGE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.
WAS DRIVING 70 DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN SUDDENLY HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN AND THEN HEARD AIR AND GLASS WENT DOWN MY BACK. SAW GLASS ROLL DOWN THE BACK WINDOW. PULLED OVER ONLY TO FIND THE SUNROOF WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE.
THE DCT TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR AND OVER REVS CONSTANTLY. WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WILL SHIFT GEARS AND USUALLY DURING THE 2ND TO 3RD GEAR SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION MISSING AND YOUR RPMS SHOOT. ONCE REVS COME DOWN THE CAR SLIPS INTO GEAR. VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE YOU CAN PULL OUT OF A DRIVEWAY OR ENTER A ROAD AND THEN NO POWER BECAUSE THE GEAR SLIPPED. DEALERS WAS INFORMED AND AN UPDATE WAS APPLIED TO THE ECU. WORKED FOR A SHORT PERIOD AND NOW CAR DOES IT AGAIN.
DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND FOOT OFF OF GAS, ENGINE SCREAMS BUT THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN DRIVE. SLOWLY GOING UP A HILL IN DRIVE ECHO, ENGINE DIES AS I PRESS DOWN ON GAS PEDAL.
IVE BEEN BATTLING WITH THE DESLERSHIP AT COLLEGE PARK HYUNDAI FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS ABOUT MY CAR NOT READING TO GO INTO REVERSE. THE DEALERSHIP FIXED THE CAR ONCE AND TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED. 2 WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR THE CAR STARING HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IVE CALLED CORPORATE AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THE SAME EXACT THING. THE ONLY THING THEY TOLD ME WAS TO TRADE IN THE CAR AND PAY A DOWN PAYMENT. IM LOSING ALL MY MONEY ON A CAR THAT HASNT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR AUGUST 30,2016 AND ITS NOW APRIL 7,2017. I HAVE A VIDEO AND A LOG BOOK OF WHEN IVE CALLED AND TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE ISSUE. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY DO NOT CARE FOR THE CUSTOMERS SAFTEY OR ABOUT THE LOSS IM TAKING FOR A CAR THAT NEVER WORKED PROPERLY WHEN I BOUGHT. HYUNDAI REFUSES TO HELP ME OR GIVE ME A NEW CAR WITHOUT PAYING. HELP ME.
THE RPM'S REV TO 6500, BUT THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE. WHEN TRYING TO ENTER THE EXPRESS WAY CAR DOES NOT SHIFT RIGHT, RPM REVS TO 6500, AND DOES NOT SHIFT TO THE NEXT GEAR. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE WHEN ENTERING ANY HIGHWAY. THE CAR CAN'T EVEN PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE GOING 40MPH. DEALER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG!!! ALSO WHEN TURNING A CORNER VEHICLE HESITATES TO ACCELERATE, THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WHEN I DRIVE IT. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTING MODULE I THINK. I HOPE THAT THIS COMPLAINT WILL LET OTHERS KNOW THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS ACCELERATION ISSUES. THE DEALER TOLD ME ON MY LAST VISIT THE EVERYONE COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE.
I WAS DRIVING ~60 MPH ON A NEW/SMOOTH HIGHWAY (I-60 IN MESA) THAT WAS EMPTY (NO CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME FOR AT LEAST 2 MILES). THE SUNROOF/PANORAMIC-ROOF SUDDENLY SHATTERED (EXPLODED) AND THE GLASS FLEW EVERYWHERE. GLASS FELL ON MY HEAD, EVERYWHERE IN THE CAR AND EVEN DAMAGED THE CAR ANTENNA AND SPOILER (ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR). THE TEMPERATURE WAS ~60 DEGREES F, THERE WERE NO ROCKS/DEBRIS FLYING AROUND AND THE CAR WAS DRIVING SMOOTHLY (NO BUMPS ON THE ROAD). THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME A ROCK HIT IT (EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO EVIDENCE) AND ARE MAKING ME COVER THE REPAIRS! THIS IS NOT RIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE PANORAMIC SUN ROOF EXPLODED AND THE SHATTERED GLASS PIECES DAMAGED THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH A CASE NUMBER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 438. UPDATED 03/01/17*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE SUN ROOF WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER DECLINED TO REPAIR THE DAMAGES TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 09/15/2017*JS
AT TIMES STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP WHEN ACCELERATING TO PULL INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC THE ENGINE RPM WILL GO AS HIGH AS 6000 RPM AND AS FAR AS MY MPH WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 15 MPH AND IT SEEMS AS THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGING. LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED I WAS THIS ISSUE NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT . I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS FOUND. THIS CONDITION CONCERNS ME BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS PROBLEM WILL ARISE. WITH A LOW MILEAGE CAR AT JUST OVER 6300 MILES IT MAKES ME VERY ANXIOUS THAT I COULD POSSIBLY IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT
FILING 2ND COMPLAINT. HUGE SAFETY ISSUES STILL OCCURRING WITH HYUNDAI'S DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. 2016 TUCSON DCT WAS RECALLED, AND STILL DID NOT RESOLVE THESE ISSUES. MY 2016 VELOSTER TURBO DCT WAS NEVER RECALLED AND HAS IDENTICAL ISSUES. MULTIPLE PARTS REPLACED FOR TRANSMISSION WHICH DID NOT RESOLVE. ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND TCM REPLACED AND ISSUE STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN ON NEW TRANSMISSION/TCM. HYUNDAI STILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGING ISSUE OR KNOW WHAT'S WRONG/HOW TO FIX. VEHICLE HAS ALREADY BEEN IN SERVICE FOR OVER 80 DAYS. HAVE 2 VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE OF ISSUE OCCURRING, AND ~8 MORE VIDEOS OF ISSUE HAPPENING THAT I HAVE NOT UPLOADED. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=1Y3ECBR07EM HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=R5CU6HN9Y5A ISSUE BEING REPORTED BY TUCSON OWNERS AFTER RECALL ON HYUNDAI'S FB PAGE. ISSUE BRING REPORTED WITH VELOSTER DCT ON HYUNDAI'S FB PAGE AS WELL AS VELOSTER FORUMS. EVERYONE BEING TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THE ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT AND HYUNDAI "DOESN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG/'WORKING AS DESIGNED'". RISKING CAR ACCIDENT HAVING TO DRIVE IT EVERY DAY. VEHICLE PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2015. ISSUES STARTED HAPPENING IN MARCH 2016. TRANSMISSION/TCM REPLACED IN SEPTEMBER 2016. ISSUES STILL OCCURRING.
WHEN THE CAR IS STOPPED AT A LIGHT OR IN TRAFFIC WITH THE FOOT ON THE BREAK WHEN YOU RELEASE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BREAK THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD - MUST BE SOMETHING WITH THE NEW DUAL CLUTCH 7-SPEED TRANSMISSION. PLEASE HYUNDAI FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED
RECENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUES FOR THE 2016 TUCSON DCT. MY 2016 VELOSTER TURBO DCT HAS HAD THE IDENTICAL ISSUES, WHICH BEGAN JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR BRAND NEW. IT'S BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR 5 MONTHS NOW, TOTALING OVER 70 DAYS. THERE HAVE BEEN GAS ISSUES - GAS FUMES SMELL OUTSIDE AND INSIDE VEHICLE, LOSING GAS ABNORMALLY FAST WHEN DRIVING, GAS TANK NOT FILLING TO FULL. THE AC RATTLES INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BLOWN HEAT OFF AND ON. MOST IMPORTANTLY IS THE SAFETY REGARDING THE 7 SPEED DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. IT IS INTERMITTENT, BUT I HAVE CAPTURED IT ON CAMERA THREE TIMES - ONCE PRIOR TO THE TRANSMISSION PARTS BEING REPLACED, AND THEN THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. AND TWICE AFTER THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. JUST LAST FRIDAY, I COULDN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT SEIZED TO SHIFT AND ACCELERATE PROPERLY FIVE TIMES IN A ROW, THE MOST IT HAS EVER HAPPENED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS PLACED BACK INTO A RENTAL. TODAY, THE DEALERSHIP SAYS "THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG" (THIS HAS BEEN SAID OVER THE COURSE OF 5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT'S INTERMITTENT) AND THEY'RE FORCING ME TO RETURN THE RENTAL - LEAVING ME WITH UNSAFE TRANSPORTATION YET AGAIN. I'VE RISKED MY LIFE FOR MONTHS TRYING TO CAPTURE VIDEO PROOF, AND I HAVE SENT THE VIDEO PROOF TO HYUNDAI - YET THEY ARE STILL MAKING MY RETURN THE RENTAL AND ARE NOT FIXING THE VEHICLE, NOR DO THEY HAVE A FIX FOR IT (ALREADY REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND COMPUTER!!). THIS IS A VIDEO I CREATED AND UPLOADED TO YOUTUBE, SUMMARIZING SOME OF WHAT'S GONE ON AND THE VIDEO PROOF I HAVE. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=1Y3ECBR07EM I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH NEVADA CONSUMER AFFAIRS WHO HAS ALREADY REVIEWED MY CASE AND TRIED NEGOTIATING WITH HYUNDAI. THEY HAVE INSTRUCTED ME TO OPEN A CASE WITH NHTSA AND THE DMV.
CAR SOMETIMES ACCELERATES BY ITSELF EVEN WHEN OFF THE GAS AND ON THE BRAKES. LUNGES IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. PASSING GEAR SOMETIMES REVS UP TO 6500RPM'S BUT STAYS IN THE CURRENT SPEED. SOMETIMES CAR STAYS AT A CERTAIN RPM EVEN IF NOT ON THE GAS AND WONT SLOW DOWN. BAD LAG AND TERRIBLE DEAD SPOTS IN ACCELERATION. I FEEL LIKE TRANSMISSION IS NOT COMMUNICATING WELL WITH CONTROL MODULE AND GAS PEDAL POSITION SENSOR IS WAY OFF THE MARK. CAR HAS PUT ME IN LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS BUT HYUNDAI SERVICE SAYS THEY CANT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM BUT ONLY DROVE IT 7 MILES. I BOUGHT CAR BRAND NEW AND JUST TURNED 5800 MILES BUT HAS BEEN BACK FOR THIS PROBLEM 4 TIMES NOW.
ACCELERATING BY ITSELF, LUNGING IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC.MOTOR REVS INTO PASSING GEAR ALL THE WAY TO 6500 RPM .BUT STAYS IN THE CURRENT SPEED, AND SOMETIMES WILL HOLD AT CERTAIN RPM EVEN IF NOT ON GAS , VERY LAGGY IN REV I FEEL I'M DRIVING OLDER CAR WITH MESSED UP TRANSMISSION

MY 2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER WILL UNLOCK RANDOMLY WHILE IT IS IN MOTION. IT MORE COMMONLY UNLOCKS AT 45MPH OR HIGHER. EVEN AFTER IT UNLOCKS IT CONTINUES TO TRY AND UNLOCK SO I AM CONSTANTLY HEARING THE CLICK IT MAKES WHEN IT UNLOCKS
THIS BRAND NEW CAR BREAKS DOWN ON MY TEENAGER. IT HAS DONE SO ON ME AS WELL. HAD IT INTO THE DEALER AND AUTO SHOPS AND THEY CNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THIS CAR LEA VES MY KID STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. NOT SAFE. GOES INTO LIMP MODE AND STALLS.
Component Failure Cascade Risk
Known patterns where one defect leads to more severe downstream failures
▸ Valve and piston damage — timing chain/belt failure causes immediate catastrophic engine damage at any speed
Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 220 total NHTSA complaints filed over 11 years, with the worst year being 2021 (53 complaints, including 2 crash reports).
The amber reliability line averaged 90/100 across the vehicle's life — relatively stable, with the lowest point of 80/100 in 2026.
The red dashed line marks recall issuance — the first recall came 4 years after owners began filing complaints, a lag that indicates the manufacturer was slow to formally acknowledge these problems.
Red dots on the amber line flag 6 years (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
