Lemon law eligibility depends on state law, number of repair attempts, and days out of service. Consult an attorney for actual eligibility.
The same components appear in both official NHTSA recalls and owner-filed complaints — a double-confirmed failure signal.
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.
One failed component has created stress on connected systems. Repair costs compound quickly — a $500 fix can become $3,000+ if cascade damage is ignored.
NHTSA VIN-specific recall lookup returned no data for this VIN. The 2 recalls below are model-wide and may or may not apply to this exact vehicle depending on production date. Verify at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Average repair completion across 2 recalls is ~72%. Always ask the seller for dealer service records confirming each repair.

I am submitting a vehicle safety complaint regarding a vehicle purchased on March 5, 2026. Within days of purchase, the vehicle exhibited multiple safety-related issues despite reportedly passing a Virginia safety inspection on February 27, 2026. The safety concerns identified include: - Driver-side headlight partially inoperable, which resulted in a traffic stop on March 15, 2026 - Front hood not properly secured/latching, creating a risk of opening while driving - No engine oil present upon inspection shortly after purchase - Coolant reservoir completely empty - Check engine light illuminated shortly after purchase Diagnostic testing following the check engine light revealed code P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold). A mechanic advised that this condition is not a new issue and would have developed over time, indicating that it likely existed prior to the sale of the vehicle. At the time of purchase, the vehicle had an outstanding manufacturer safety recall identified as NHTSA Recall No. 23V651000 (Recall #251), dated April 3, 2024. This recall had not been completed prior to sale and was only addressed on March 24, 2026, after I took the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership. Additionally, the vehicle was subject to a manufacturer campaign identified as Campaign #P33, dated December 15, 2025. This further indicates that the vehicle required manufacturer-related service that had not been fully addressed prior to sale. An independent inspection conducted on March 16, 2026 confirmed conditions inconsistent with a vehicle that had recently passed a safety inspection. These issues raise serious concerns about the safety, inspection integrity, and roadworthiness of the vehicle at the time it was sold. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed for potential safety-related concerns and any related violations. I am available to provide supporting documentation, including inspection reports, diagnostic results, service records, and photographic evidence.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power several times, with the check engine warning light and low oil warning lights blinking. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure persisted. There was an abnormal tapping sound coming from the vehicle. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Engine failure consistent with known Hyundai engine defect. Blue smoke, oil consumption, engine knock Mechanic autoscanned codes were P0300, PO301, PO302 Lost half quart of oil in 800 miles Fire risk acknowledged in recall documentation - undriveable car at Hyundai dealer in Salem NH, renting a car now as without any transportation Manufacturer denied repair based solely on VIN despite identical failure
I was at a red light waiting to go an when it was time to go my car would not go. It was on it would not go into gear. It will reverse. It just won't go forward in auto or manual. Im the 1st owner of this car. I bought it new. I need Hyundai to take care of this problem. Asap please. It happened the car only has 133,718 miles on it and been serviced regularly since I bought it.
2015 Hyundai Elantra is consuming oil. I have changed the oil on all of my vehicles ever since I have owned vehicles and this vehicle purchased used for my children and maintained by me is consuming oil requiring addition of +/- a quart of oil between trips from Baltimore, MD to New Haven, CT. Oil lamp on dashboard is lighting indicating low level of oil upon return to home just north of Baltimore December 15, 2025 after a trip north to New Haven CT November 29, 2025. Oil was topped off prior to trip back to school on November 28, 2025 and 16 days later after trip home on December 15, 2015, oil lamp on dash is lighting and oil level is low. There are no observations of oil leaking at home or in parking garage at New Haven, CT

My 2015 Hyundai Elantra fits the 'window' of Elantras where the engine transmission slips gears without notice. Hyundai dealers have been replacing transmissions at no cost, if the car is still under 100,000 miles, as part of a class action settlement. As the second owner, I have no warranty rights to get Hyundai to fix my car at no cost. This is despite the Hyundai dealer just today (Aug 20, 2025) here in Las Vegas was ready to replace my transmission at no cost until they found out I am the second owner. The car is still unsafe. The need is still relevant. The dealer was willing at first. Now I am faced with an unsafe vehicle forced to possibly pass in excess of $4,000 to fix an issue that has been know and litigated.
Vehicle routinely (3,000-5,000 miles, depending on oil used) maintained by qualified mechanics. Around 129,000 miles the engine began to knock / rattle. Mechanic was unable to determine the cause, but the rattle was only present between 0-40mph and would settle at higher speeds. Mechanic also noted the absence of sludge. Around 133,000 miles the vehicle stalled. The vehicle would start, but would stall again. Mechanic diagnosed timing chain failure and that the vehicle is burning oil. Vehicle has never indicated low oil, but it is now manually checked and burning about a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. Replaced timing chain and vehicle has continued to operate. Around 134,500 miles some power loss during low-speed acceleration and a slight engine rumble at lower speed. Mechanic diagnosed a wrist pin failure on cylinder 2. Vehicle may be inspected upon request. Vehicle stalls create some safety concerns, but have only occurred at low speeds. Vehicle timing chain was diagnosed by two different mechanics. When the vehicle was brought to a Hyundai dealership for a trunk latch recall in May of 2024 at 125,000 miles, no issues were noted. Vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance represenstatives since May of 2024, with no reported issues. No check engine notifications or warnings appeared until the vehicle stalled. Prior to slightly decreased acceleration, the only notable indicator of an issue is the persistent engine rattle (knock, piston slap). The engine rattle began in February of 2025.
I had a trunk latch recall done on my car in June 2024. Immediately after that, my trunk stopped opening with the key fob. The latch would click but not release. A few weeks ago, it started doing the same thing with the release lever by the driver's side. There was no way to get the trunk open, so I went to a different Hyundai dealership than where my recall was done at (due to travel costs from school). They had to replace the trunk latch because the recall latch was installed incorrectly. It was an almost $700 expense.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The vehicle crashed into a guardrail. In addition, the air bags did not deploy. The contact was taken to the hospital and was treated for facial fractures. The contact was then transferred to another hospital for additional treatment to her face. The vehicle was towed to a local tow yard. The vehicle was not inspected by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Hello my vehicle developed a knock and it has become so much worse, I will not drive it. Hyundai has played games with me. My vehicle has been at Jenkins Subaru three times at Hyundai request. This third time my vehicle had to be towed to Jenkins Subaru. Now Hyundai tells me they will not repair my vehicle even though they have been aware with this lifter knock piston slap issue for quite some time now. I need help. I am [XXX] [XXX] and rely on this vehicle to get me to doctors appointments and general errands. I really don't know what to do. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because of fire issues and possibly staling out on the interstate and me getting hit by another vehicle. Please help. My vehicle now sits at Jenkins Subaru in Clarksburg wv and I have no way to bring it back to Fairmont wv. A 20 to 25 minutes trip could be deadly to to bring it home. Hyundai could have cared less that I had to had the vehicle towed to Jenkins Subaru, there reasoning is it has 104,000 miles on it. I told Hyundai they must make throw away vehicles then. Thank you [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Abs and traction control lights on as well as e brake light this is all after I had recall work that was supposed to fix this problem but only made it worse I am dealing with Hyundai but I don’t see a solution for this problem my car is inoperable and very unsafe it is my main source of transportation to and from my place of work and without this vehicle I am at a great loss I have lost brakes completely at times and am mentally and physically unable to drive this car it’s that bad financially strapped from sinking money into this problem only to find there’s a recall but the recall work didn’t fix the problem and Hyundai knows it won’t fix the problem
Check engine light came on, the code says misfire on random cylinders, drives very rough. Took to mechanic and said timing chain is loose, which causes the “skipping” or misfire, and could snap at any moment (which is unsafe and could cause a wreck). Mechanic has 3 other Hyundai Elantra's with same problem. Around 2 grand fix.
For the past 2 years, the car shuts off while driving. There is no warning lights or other warning that it is going to shut off. The steering doesn't lock but the car shuts off. I have to come to a stop and then restart the car. It does restart every time. This seems to happen frequently and then doesn't do it for a few weeks. I have had it looked at by 4 different mechanics, had multiple sensors replaces, replaced coil packs, and the problem still continues. The Hyundai dealer looked at it one time and said they do not know what is wrong.
While operating my 2015 Hyundai ELANTRA, the engine cuts out.. it just stalls out of nowhere without any signs or warnings its about to happen. As well as approximately 50% of the time the engine stalls the power steering also stops working. At this point I have to coast to the side of the road, put it in park, turn the key to the off position and then restart the car when this happens which is quite often. The worst its ever been was 8 times in a 25 minute/28 mile drive. This doesn’t only happen at fast or slow speeds. It’s completely random whether I’m going 15 mph in a school zone 25 to 40 mph through towns or 65 to 70 mph on highways. This is already extremely dangerous to happen. Going 15 to 40 mph but when you’re driving on a highway at 65 or 70 mph and the engine and power steering just stop and cut out, this is severely dangerous. I’ve been in contact with the Hyundai headquarters multiple times and they are not doing a single thing about it so my car has just been sitting for about 5 months now. Please help me hold Hyundai financially responsible for safety recall repairs. This manufacturer safety issue is unacceptable and my car has been very well maintained and has very low miles under 70k miles on a 2015
Drove my 2015 Hyundai Elantra on the coldest day of the year to an appointment. Car was fully warmed up. Pulled into a gas station to park and was going less than 3 mph, making a left hand turn into the space. Elantra suddenly accelerated hard and the car hit a cement pole, causing extensive front end damage. If car had full insurance coverage, it would have been a write off. Hood crumpled, radiator damaged, front grill broken, bent the engine bar in half. Significant damage but the air bag did not deploy. Had to have it towed home 35 miles. Damage was in the middle of the front of the car, so I was already in the parking space. No warning lights of any sort before this happened. Very dangerous and I would never buy another Hyundai. I bought this car brand new in 2015 and have had recalls taken care of (anti theft software one). Over the course of owning this car, other odd things have occurred as well, such as white smoke coming out of the engine upon acceleration, accelerated wear on the tires due to the back end, and engine will suddenly stop for no reason while driving (this happened twice) Inferior product!
The engine blew once at 38,000 miles and now the new engine blew at 85,000 miles (47,000 on this engine). The car was driving fine, 5 minutes into driving i heard a slight knocking noise, 10 minutes after that I was stranded on the side of the road.
On [XXX] I was parking in my parking spot outside my house, went to pull up 3 more inches in my parking spot when the vehicle accelerated at an extremely rapid speed, went over the high curb, up my front lawn into the tree in my front yard. It was a battle between the brake and the gas acceleration event. Then I put it gently in reverse, my car fled rapidly down into the parking lot at such a high rate of speed, I turned the wheel, my car hit 3 cars across the parking lot, shot across the parking lot, popped over that curb, went down an extremely steep hill, hit the cross street, went still in reverse over an island, wiped out two signs and crashed into a car in the middle of the 4 way stop and stopped. My insurance is blaming it on driver error like they are blaming thousands of drivers over the same experience, stating that I mistook the gas pedal instead of the brake and also stating that I did not attempt to brake, that is so far from the truth, you can look at the track marks on the ground and tell I was standing on the brake. What is being done about these awful scenerios. My car is currently in copart being assessed. My car was serviced at the hyundai dealership ever since I purchased it, all the records are there and in my possession, I had low mileage, less than 48,000 miles and planned on holding onto the vehicle for at least 6 more years. Now my car is sabotaged, being blamed like 1,000 of other drivers over the car malfunctioning. There is a sensor for the Throttle, a sensor for the Gas Accelerator that the Computer Control Unit brain waits for the analytical data from both sensors and adds additional throttle to the situation. Once the car is turned off the entire system resets itself, so there is no evidence of high throttle, gas accelerators sticking and the driver is blamed. Since the insurance companies have insured these vehicles there is a lot at stake for these cases to be proven and for the Hyundai manufacturer as well. The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the engine had misfired; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Car will accelerate and get stuck in a high gear rpm gauge will not work as well You will come to a stop not knowing you are stuck in a high gear car will not downshift. I tried to cross the intersection from a stop and almost got hit because I could barely accelerate. I was stuck in 5th gear. Car will also stall while stuck in in a high gear at a stop I can turn off the vehicle and start it and it will reset the car to normal. It will drive fine for a while. Randomly this will happen. From my research I found this is a common problem with many different model years of Hyundai's . Most people say the solution is a new crankshaft sensor . When I ran a diagnostics There are no error codes for this problem. Many other individuals with this problem have said the same from many different online forums I have read. Other individuals I've said they were also stuck in the high gear at a stop and did not know until they accelerated. Some have been in accidents because of this issue. I would assume Hyundai would be aware of this. If there's not a recall on this, I believe there should be.
About 6 weeks ago, my car engine began to turn off while driving. Warning lights flash on the gauge cluster. The vehicle has limited mobility for 20–30 seconds, then loses all power. This was incredibly dangerous when driving at highway speeds, as the car simply stopped. There were no warning lights or issues before this began happening. I took it to a local mechanic who identified several error messages and replaced the battery, throttle, sensors, and other parts, but the problem persisted. They could not identify the cause but verified the problem. I took the car to the Skagit, WAHyundai dealership, where they determined it was a failure in the oil pump. This exact problem is under an active recall for other Hyundai Elantra model years.
The Pearl White paint falls off of the vehicle, exposing the primer to the elements and reducing the life and usage of the vehicle. Paint has also flown up and stuck to the windshield, obscuring visibility.
When driving the car loses power steering and is harder to control. I am at risk because I cannot control the car how I am suppose to. I have called before but there are no Hyundai service dealers close to me. There was nothing prior but now that it is happening there are warning lamps on.
The transmission failed as I was driving and the vehicle is available for inspection. My safety was put at risk as the car failed suddenly and I was stuck on the side of the road with my children. The problem has been confirmed by my mechanic. It has not been confirmed by the manufacturer, police, or insurance No lights were on previous and the car seemed to be just fine.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The contact stated that the sound was like an airplane propeller spinning. The contact stated that the following day, while driving out of the driveway, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed ABS module. The contact was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) prior to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 174,000.
Due to CDK Global cyberattack, I cannot complete my safety recall of my Hyundai Elantra 2015 (ABS Fuse that can cause engine to explode, according to Hyundai safety recall report). Hyundai does not allow dealerships to keep safety recall parts on hand (or a very small amount). I have to walk into the dealership to order the part. I cannot call to order the part. I have to constantly drive to place of work, home, sit in traffic, with a defective fuse that HyundaiUSA refuses to keep safety recall parts on hand. Please create a NATIONAL policy against manufacturers to have a minimum units (1000 units of fuses, parts, etc) as the safety recall occurs. Because dealerships cannot order parts due to this cyberattack. My mental anguish of driving a vehicle that cannot have a safety recall repaired due to parts not being able to order (especially if they can keep large amounts of units on hand at dealers), is through the roof! I cannot take time off, I have to drive to not be evicted, anything repossessed, etc. and where I live has limited transportation options, (and told to use ride share like Lyft or Uber). Insurance companies is unhelpful. If manufacturers say they cannot keep parts on hand, then how do they ship the parts so quickly, under normal operations? 3rd party mechanic shops cannot order these parts as the manufacturer has to complete the recall repair.
I just had to pay $1200 for an alternator that was installed into my car defected from the beginning by Hyundai.
I received a notice in the mail of the recall from Hyuandai. I set an appt with Dick Smith Hyandai in Greenville, SC and when I arrived they said they could not do any recall work at the moment due to issues with their computer system and that I should call them again in a few weeks.
i received a Manufacturer's Service Campaign 984 Notice from Hyundai. I made an appointment for a treatment of an underbody cavity wax and undercoating spray to prevent corrosion at King Hyundai in Deerfield Beach, FL, the closest dealer. When I arrived at the dealership I was informed that the correction could not be made because Hyundai did not supply Florida dealers with the needed products. I explained that the vehicle had been used for three years in the Washington DC area and then relocated to Florida. I called Hyundai Customer Car Center at 1-855-371-9460 and was advised that Hyundai did not supply the needed products to any state that did not experience winter weather; I believe she said that was a total of 16 states. As I received a recall notice at my Florida address, please explain why Hyundai is exempt from the recall issued in accordance with federal law.
Within three months of purchasing this vehicle, I started having engine light and oil consumption issues. Within the 4 years of owning, they've replaced the catalytic converter twice, many valves, and others. I had to purchase and add multiple quarts of oil to just maintain oil levels. I've had multiple occasions where my vehicle slowed to only up to 55 miles an hour while on the interstate. The vehicle had issues accelerating where an accident almost occurred because pulling into a shopping plaza, the vehicle couldn't drive up a minor hill and almost remained in the intersection. I've had multiple times where I was stuck on the side of the road in different environments, a few of which I was genuinely worried for my safety. This last incident I did not feel safe to drive where I needed to go so I got off the interstate to travel down a local road where the vehicle stalled in the middle of a 5 lane (one direction) busy road. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and warranty representatives. The engine and oil lights were the main issues, every time a light came on I reached out to the dealership to get it looked at. I received notice of many engines being recalled and repaired in 2022 yet Hyundai has only put bandaids on my engine.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that on two occasions while driving at 45 MPH, she observed a burning odor in the cabin of the vehicle. The contact's wife pulled into a parking lot and inspected the vehicle. The contact's wife observed smoke emanating from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the needed to be replaced. The vehicle sat at the dealer for eight months before being repaired. The mechanic stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,700.
I was driving down the interstate using cruise control. When I applied the brakes, they didn’t work. The RPM’s went up to 4 or 5. I tried several times and the brakes didn’t work until I hit the cancel button on the cruise control. They said it was the brake switch when I had it repaired.
I had a complete engine failure. The car had a loud knock sound and the engine shut off leaving the car inoperable.
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked outside his residence, it caught on fire. Reporting my previous VIN in case it helps the new vehicle owner since I am sure they are facing similar defects that I am with my "brand new 2016 Hyundai Elantra". I previously owned a brand new 2015 Hyundai Elantra and had to file a claim after flooding occurred in Kyle, Texas. The 2015 Elantra title was transferred to USAA after filing a claim for TOTAL LOSS due to engine flooding on [XXX]. Odometer reading on date of total loss is 7,673 miles. Vehicle appears to be sold again with same odometer reading January 2016. Both of my Hyundai Elantra's were purchased at Ron Carter Hyundai Dealership in Texas (Dealer number P113588). This dealership is now called Big Star Hyundai after DCG Acquisitions represented the sale in 2021 - just in time to deny and delay warranty covered defects to consumers who thought they purchased a brand new car. Hope this helps the current vehicle owner in case they are also over spending on dealership recommended "repairs" for their LEMON. I am submitting this complaint because in the fall of last year 2023, I received a recall notice in the mail from Hyundai advising me of a safety recall with the ABS Module and risk of fire. As of today, the manufacturer has not made any efforts to remedy this issue and I am advised to park my vehicle away from structures to avoid fire. In order to keep myself and family safe I park my vehicle on the street in front of my home, but will not be able to continue doing this for much longer. Because of HOA regulations I will be fined if I continue to park my car on the street and will be forced to park in my driveway or garage. This has caused major inconveniences in my life as well as the worry that my car could become a risk to myself or others due to this safety recall. I do not believe that Hyundai has taken the appropriate measures to resolve the issue. I would like further investigation to insure the manufacturer does the right thing to protect not only myself, but other consumers who are affected by the recall. I contacted Hyundai on [XXX], received an apology; however I was not given an estimate of when they will have a resolution available. This is an unacceptable response after 6-7 months without communication from Hyundai. Reference number of call # [XXX]. There has been no rememdy listed with hyundai for this Recall for the 2015 hyundai elantra in almost a year and since it is a fire hazzard, I would like a remedy immediate because hyundai is not taking this recall seriously.
Unknown. Why is NHTSA giving Hyundai such slack? It has been well over six months since Hyundai has alerted us of the safety recall, but has to yet to act on recall 251. They say the car would be safer outside, but many of us who live in high rises don’t have that luxury as our multi-level garages are either attached to or beneath the living units. Hyundai should be compelled to act right away, or buy their cars back. NHTSA should act immediately.

Was driving 2/6/24 and oil light came on. Engine smelled bad then entire car stopped working, e.g. brake pedal locked and the dashboard lit up. Ran over a median to manually stop the car. Had car towed to Hyundai dealership, who stated that an oil change from Firestone in 12/2023 was the culprit. Upon inspection the oil filter had a bulging gasket which was presumed to allow the car to slowly leak oil, leading to impending catastrophic engine failure. I appealed to Firestone and they completed an inspection and provided a report that showed the Hyundai engine itself was faulty and warped the oil filter based on detailed caliper measurements. In light of the Hyundai/Kia engine troubles, I wanted to submit a report in case my year and make and model make a recall list for engine issues.
The brakes failed due to rotted brake lines the fluid leaked out and the brake warning light came on. I inspected the car and the lines that run from the front to the back are rusted at the point that the lines are supported. Canada has a recall for this issue because it is such a widespread issue. Hyundai needs to be made accountable for making brake lines out of inferior metal.

This is a complaint for recall remedy. This recall has no remedy and they ask I park my car outside of my garage in the dead of winter. I live 4 hours from the nearest in-state dealer that could potentially provide a loaner vehicle. I’m not comfortable driving a car that I have been told can catch fire while parked OR driving on a 4 hour drive. I’ve called Hyundai multiple times with no reprieve.

Please note that this is not reporting incidents, accidents, collisions or injuries. This is reporting actions taken regarding, (previously referenced here), the Important Safety Recall Number 251. Although this problem was recorded in September of 2023 (please refer to [XXX] ), I only recently received this Safety Recall notice in the mail on Monday, November 27, 2023. The notice states: "due to fire risk, you are strongly advised to park your vehicle outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed." It also states the car is not safe to drive. I do not have another place to park my car. I contacted my local Hyundai dealer several times, urging them to please hold my car until Hyundai fixes the ABS fuse problem. I was told by the Hyundai dealership that they will not hold my car, while we wait for them to fix the ABS fuse problem. I am asking for your help in having Hyundai hold the car temporarily, as It is imperative to do so for safety reasons. Thank you. The car was working fine. Then one day it wouldn’t turn on while we were out. The engine wouldn’t start and it smelt burnt and there was smoke. We had to jumpstart the car and it showed some codes. They were B1319 and B1111. We took it to an electrician and it showed there was was a fuse that’s being overpowered. The car had been working again, but I did get a smell of something burnt a few times from inside the car. A few weeks passed by and three days ago the car again wouldn’t turn on. Just yesterday I found out about the recall from September on the Hyundai Elantra 2015. Not sure if it has something to do with that, but I still haven’t received a recall although that’s the car model I have.
This safety recall was issued over two months ago and there is still no remedy for it, putting my life and others lives in danger.
My car's engine had damaged engine seals and was leaking oil. Also, when I accelerate it seems to be very forceful and the gears don't change well, they seem to be stuck. I had to take the front axle in for repair since something seemed to break. Also in the second or third year I had to take it under warranty since I had problems with the brakes and the sensor was damaged. The button to raise and lower the window does not work.

My wife was in an accident. She was doing 35 mph and hit a Honda Accord. The airbags in the Honda deployed, but the air bags in our Hyundai did not deploy.
When I come to a stop the car randomly shuts off and the engine lights come on. I have to put it in neutral and restart the car. This is happening all the time and scares me. I'm afraid that one day I will have to stop on the interstate and my car dies when traffic resumes putting me in danger.
When I come to a stop the car randomly shuts off. All the warning lights come on. I have to put it in neutral and it usually starts right back up. It's happening a lot more often now.

There is a clock spring warranty on the Elantra gt. We have the Elantra jk and the clock spring has stopped working. This is a safety issue and this car should also be in the extended warranty. Our car has 32,000 miles on it and this should not have happened.

I'm beyond frustrated! I dropped my car off Saturday May 18th and got my vehicle back on Monday June 26th for my car to completely stop working and not cut on come July 2nd. I called Hyundai of Concord 3 times and left multiple voicemails for Dennis to return my calls. I spent $799 in repairs to walk away thankful I completed the needed repairs to run correctly. In return I spent $799 for NOTHING! My car won't start! I understand the 4th is tomorrow, but the most professional thing is to address my concern. June 26th I was provided with a diagnostic and NOTHING on my diagnostic signified I had an urgent repairs that would prevent my car from starting. I'm extremely unsatisfied. I trusted Hyundai of Concord being that I live closer than Keffer Hyundai! I'm so disappointed! I will be without a car until who knows how long! I finally got a call back from Dennis who rudely cut me off as I was talking and did not provide a resolution. Dennis advised me Tony the regional manager would be contacting me, but hasn't. I also left two voicemails for Tony and no call back! Staff is incompetent and not helpful! I was forced to trade in my vehicle due to lack of response from Modern Hyundai of Concord!
When stopped at a red light or in traffic, (on many occasions), my car will suddenly surge and accelerate. It's leads no many near rear end collisions. Sometimes it leads up to my engine stalling. Also have shuddering (like it wants to die) when driving on freeway. The re has been to many incidents to keep track of.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle started to shudder and lost motive power before the vehicle stalled. The failure mileage was 72,561.
Complete engine failure at 129k miles, 3k miles after purchasing used off Hyundai car dealerships.
The car engine seized on me. Went to work in the am and by the afternoon the car was non drivable. Had it tolled to a Hyundai dealership and couple of other car repair shops and they all confirmed that the engine has died. I haven't even had the car for a year. There was no indicators on the screen or any kind of warning such as an engine light. Good thing the car was in park when before it seized, otherwise I could have been driving it and could have happened on the road.
The paint from a lot of Hyundai Elantra’s are chipping really bad. The paint is no good!
The Pearl White Paint on my 2015 Hyndaui Elantra has been chipping continuously. In 2017 I had the car repainted and also in 2019 I had the car repainted. Now it’s 2023 and the car is chipping paint again. I was told my cars VIN number wasn’t apart of the known paint recall for this color. But clearly the 2015 pearl white Hyundai’s should be included. I see many white Hyundai’s with chipping paint. It’s ridiculous.
Engine stalled while going at-speed on major highway; high risk of crash if not restarted in time. Continuous repeating stalls. Hyundai inspected car twice; failed to fix the problem on the first attempt, refused to replace engine alleging that maintenance was negligent due to residue inside motor. Hyundai did not report any residue on the first inspection, and likely did not inspect engine thoroughly when stalling was initially reported to their mechanics. Odd noises from engine present for months prior to stalling.
When you go to stop at a stop.sihn or in general it fails to do so. It locks up an I slide an almost hit people multiple times. Today I was backing out of a parking lot an when I went to turn my steering wheel straight it locked up an failed to let me counter steer it. Causing me to go over a curb an almost blow my tire out. Leaving my tire with a big bubble on the side of my tire. Eventually going to lead to a blow out.
The rear brake lines are corroded where the lines come into contact with the plastic hangers that keep the lines in place under the car. Due to this issue I lost brake pressure while driving the car. This happened in a parking lot, but my safety and the safety of many others would have been at risk had this happened on the highway while driving at speed and if I needed to brake suddenly to slow down. I have not had the brake lines inspected at the dealer, but I have them in case they are needed. Hyundai recently sent a service campaign letter to me regarding underbody corrosion prevention service for cars in the states that use salt on the road. I feel Hyundai is being negligent in not extending this service to include replacing parts of the underbody, such as the brake lines, that are required for the normal and safe operation of the vehicle. Due to their lack of underbody corrosion prevention that should have been in place when the car was manufactured my safety was put at great risk and I now have to replace the brake lines at my own cost. I feel Hyundai know that their brake lines will rust and corrode due to salt usage, and their underbody campaign is not addressing these problems which could result in owners having a serious accident.
Purchased car used with 60k mileage. Within 3 months notice car making a metal scrubbing noise and excessive shaking in in mornings when first started and cold but if car was warm no scrubbing sound and minor shaking. Took it to hyundai dealer to have checked was told they didnt hear the scrubbing and vibrating, I assumed they checked while car was warm. Continue to have same problem for about 2 years as well as car acceleration rapidly declining and skipping on acceleration.Suspected piston slap after reading description of many others having same problem as issue identical to mine, I recieved notification in mail however it stated I must be located in cold weather state and although my state does have cold winters, it wasnt included on the list so assumed I couldnt take part in the investigation or extended warranty. Now car is having a lot more acceleration decline and yesterday, was traveling about 60mph on interstate and without warning, car just cut off and steering wheel became stiff, I through gear into neutral and turn ignition and car cranked right back up and continued driving for another 20 min, then car rested for about an hour. Then I was returning home and was going about 35 to 40 mph and it done the exact same thing again, engine cut off without warning steering wheel went stiff and I had to put in neutral and car crunk right back up. I'm almost 100% certain my engine is one of the defective engines and I'm going to auto store to have codes read now but I dont know how to have hyundai fix my defective engine and I fear I could end up injured because of it
Unwanted sudden engine speeding up,No warning or messages.
Transmission completely went out at 86k miles with no warning. No lights on the dash, no slow build of issues. Has always had regular maintenance since I bought the car at the dealership. Second owner, and car is paid off. Drove it one day with absolutely no issues, and the very next day, all gears were slipping and was not safely drivable. Was stopped at a stop light turning into work and when I put my foot on the accelerator, it went nowhere and I was stuck at intersection. Got it towed that day to a local repair shop since I was told my warranty for power train was expired, and have been waiting on a new transmission for 2 months now. The repair shop still doesn’t know when they’ll get it in, and will cost $4k to install. Mine is one of many they’ve said have come through with the same problem.
Defective paint chipping and/or pealing off in large chunks with wind when driving can cause to hit another vehicles windshield especially, the drivers behind that can cause temporary obstruction to the road.
On February 17, 2023, my vehicle was broken into and damaged because thieves tried to highjack the car using a now common method of the end of a USB cable in the ignition. The passenger rear window, the steering column, and the key ignition were all damaged, and I had my vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership. Nearly all 2011-2021 Kia and Hyundai vehicles are made easy to operate without a key, to steal, and to vandalize. This security vulnerability has resulted in Kia and Hyundai owners paying for repairs (even with insurance, owners need to pay the deductible) and higher insurance premiums. Hyundai and Kia did not disclose this defect, which is a material fact, and a fact that a reasonable person would rely on when purchasing a vehicle, consequently making these vehicles easy to steal, unsafe, and worth less than they should be. The service writer at the dealership informed me that it could take 30-45 days to get the parts since this type of vandalism has increased significantly over the last six months. It has become well-known that these thefts are due to security flaws (re: failure to implement standard security measures and install anti-theft devices) in Kia and Hyundai vehicles, leaving them notably susceptible to theft. Kia and Hyundai owners, including myself, are left with limited time use of rental cars during repairs, oftentimes because of the delay in the delivery of parts. This situation also leaves Kia and Hyundai owners with higher insurance rates (or being simply denied of obtaining insurance) because of these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, she heard a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the noise was intermittent at first but had become almost constant and would occur at various speeds. The contact stated that she recently saw white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. Additionally, the engine was revving high when started in the morning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
The steering makes a knocking noise when I turn the steering wheel. The dealer states I need to replace the rack and pinion assembly. I have read of other driver's complaints regarding steering issues. I am also aware of a previous recall for the same issue with earlier Elantras.
The engine failed under with under 100,000 miles on the car. It dies going under 20 miles per hour. This is a safety issue because it will die anywhere and can cause wrecks due to sudden failure. The vehicle was inspected Stivers Hyundai, and they could not determine what caused the failure. The problem was confirmed with the same dealer. There were no warning lamps or signs prior to the failure. Beneath, I am reporting the issue on the date it first occurred, though it has occurred multiple times since.
The contact's daughter owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at various speeds, the vehicle was jerking and stalling. The air bag, check engine, and various other unknown warning lights were illuminated, and messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where the failures could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred and that while her daughter was exiting the highway, the vehicle stalled, and she had to turn off and restart the vehicle to continue driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure persisted and was recurring more frequently. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,500.
My vehicle is just over 80k miles and has received regular maintenance services. Inspection available upon request. My engine would rattle during idle, stopped at a light, and sounded as if the RPM were increasing. I would have to turn my car off then back on for it to stop. No engine or warning lights. As this became more frequent, I also noticed a very intense shaking coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle while driving on the highway. The shaking was most intense as the car accelerated from 2k-3k RPM. It felt like I could have lost control. On 11/29/22, my car was towed to a repair shop because the engine would stall when I started my car. After examination they recommended I take it to a Hyundai dealer, determined the engine may need replaced and informed me of other recalls from similar models. When the vehicle was brought to the Hyundai dealer, they stated they could not replicate the issue - the engine would start without stalling - but they also speculated my problem was from a loose cable, and attempted to send my car home with me the same day. It is important to note that the battery cable was examined and was connected prior to bringing it in to the dealer. My car is not under recall so my request was taken lightly, they stated I had no engine issues. I pressed for them to address the rattling of my vehicle, for which they then told me I had a leak in my front left axle. Axle was repaired and car brought home. My car drove for about 212 miles before it started stalling again with multiple attempts to start it. When I was able to successfully turn the engine over, I drove it back to the Hyundai dealer on 1/02/23. They found no codes but determined the crank sensor needed replaced. After replacement, they informed me my vehicle still “acted up” once, so they have held onto the vehicle for the past month, letting it sit and occasionally test driving it. Still no answer to this irregular issue.
Multiple times now, the vehicle has stalled while I am driving and turned off. Both my battery and alternator are still good, however this continues to happen. This happens at any speed, but most commonly at low speeds, while slowing down. This typically starts with the engine chugging or the car begins lurching instead of moving fluidly. As this is happening the light cluster will also flash and then go off or will illuminate the oil pressure warning light. I have had the oil level checked and can confirm this is also not an issue. The only way to get the car back on is to put the vehicle in park, and turn it over until it starts. It will normally start on the first try but at times it has taken several attempts. Additionally the car now produces a strong exhaust smell anytime I am driving it even though it has not done so before and there are no issues with my exhaust system currently. The vehicle currently has around 180,000 miles but from what I have read on this site there are many individuals experiencing this same issue with varying mileage. This is obviously a major concern as I have kept the vehicle maintained normally and this seems to have come out of nowhere and this is a significant safety hazard both for myself and others. As many have stated already in their complaints their vehicle has also experienced this exact issue while driving putting themselves and others in danger. The only fix I have seen on the site here is to replace the engine which is absurd given that this seems to be a manufacturer issue and not on the vehicle owner from what I can tell based on the number of related complaints that are the exact same issue.
My 2015 Hyundai Elantra steering binds at highways speeds after having driven 20 minutes or so. I am able to overcome this by using extra effort to move the steering wheel; but it come back again. It does not happen at lower speeds. I consider this dangerous as I don't know if this binding (or sticking) problem will get worse. This has been going on since October of 2022. The binding occurs while driving straight at highway speeds.
Cars with Pearl White paint have large pieces of paint flaking off of both the hood and trunk, this is a common issue found with others.
At any given time without warning the car dies. There is a red light that is sometimes visible on the dash but flashes too quickly and tell which light it may be (due to location of light owner’s manual showing possible oil light/battery). The car has had regular scheduled maintenance. This happens when driving in everyday traffic and sometimes when going from stopped to accelerating. This happens when going in reverse or ahead. I have almost been in several different accidents due to it dying in the middle of intersections. Code reader has not been able to locate the problem because there’s no indication of a problem on the check engine light. This is a very serious problem that needs to be taken seriously before it gets someone badly injured or killed.
The transmission has a TSB and I took it to the dealership and the service tech told me there are over 20 customers that have the same issue with the transmission jerking very hard and accelerating while taking off from 1st in automatic transmission also the car would just shut off while driving and you have to pull over and it starts up and was advised don’t get a used transmission because all of them are having the same issues also they have over 20 transmissions on back order I took the car to the Hyundai Elantra dealership on Blackstone ave here in Fresno ca
Unknown cause vehicle stalls and stutters randomly and skips while driving. Stalls when at a stop randomly and when car is restarted tachometer does not register that car has been restarted.
When driving the car shuts off. The dash lights come on oil battery check engine. Once I stop and put the car in park and restart it it will start right back up. I will die anytime and anywhere. I've been on the highway and it just stops. It does it multiple times before I get to were I need to go. I was almost hit by a semi in traffic doing 40 because it died in the lane
The headlights randomly turn off or switch between high and low beams. This is dangerous especially at night because high beams can impair another driver's vision or having the lights turn off completely makes me unseen on the road. My car is available for inspection upon request. When I have gone online, I have seen other Hyundai customers have experienced the same thing.
The low-pressure oil light flickers at idle and then stalls the engine. This often happens at intersections while waiting for traffic to clear and then the car shuts off. The oil pressure has been tested and is at proper pressure. Additionally, the oil sending switch has been replaced. At this time the vin shows the engine is not eligible for manufacturer recall. It is my understanding that the engine shut off is by design as to preserve the engine from seizure. However, the root of the issue needs to be addressed as it is a major safety concern if the engine stops during idle in a busy intersection.
Power steering locks up while driving at high speed, could not turn wheel. Took a picture once slowed down to 20mph. Turned car off and on and was able to continue driving. Attempted to make a 3 pt turn to park, steering locked up again.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The contact stated that he was able to navigate the vehicle off the roadway. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not covered under recall or warranty. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear shifter only operated in second gear (D2) and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the shifter locked Mr. Transmission where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
I rear ended another vehicle going 60, I slowed down as much as possible however the seat belt did not lock, the airbags did not go off & the vehicle skid. The vehicle was taken to a lot by my insurance for evaluation.
The tire exploded while in the trunk of the car on 7/27/22 around 6:45PM. The tire says it was made in France. The US pat appears to be 3838726. Also has a RH 476 or maybe it is RH 475. Tire size: T 125/80 R 16. Also says 97M. It is a tubeless tire.
The Hyundai Electra 2011-2013 were recalled for air bag issues with #13V115000. I have a 2015 Hyundai Electra and the air bag light came on. Hyundai said the problem was the same issue as the older cars but the recall did not cover the 2015s. Please expand review to expand the recall. Thanks, [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Brake lights stay on constantly - even when vehicle is off. If driver is unaware of their brake lights being stuck in an on position can cause an accident very easily.
The brake pedal stopper pad had deteriorated and crumbled onto the floor mat. The brake lights stayed on continous without pushing the brake pedal. The cruise control stopped working and the shift lever could be moved without depressing the brake pedal. The brake light switch stayed extended even when I wasn't applying the brakes. I tried to contact Hyundia case number19874192 and told them because they had recalled prior year cars elantra and sonata for same brake pedal stopper pad deteriorating. I am not making any progress through the corporate or dealer rep. Told the recall which started in November 2017 was for vehicles 2013 -2014 even though I have the same deteriorating part. No warning lamps or lights, defective part was diagnosed through local auto parts store.
My brake stop pad broke, causing my brake lights to remain on constantly unless the fuse was pulled. This caused battery drain and safety issues on the road. This issues appears consistent with the recalls for the 2013 and 2014 Hyundai models with stop pad recalls.
The car engine started just cutting off while driving. There is no warning except for the engine, oil and battery light comes on. The dash lights and radio remain on with no engine. I have to brake and put the car in park to start the engine back up. It may do this several times before I get to my destination. I've had it looked at and diagnosed at 3 places and none can find what is wrong. The 3 lights only come on when engine stops. The car has about 53,000 miles.
The deterioration of the brake pedal stopper pad while driving leaving the lights illuminated and was almost rear ended.
i only have 4,100 miles on my vehicle. several months ago i was driving and i could not go over 40 mph, even putting the pedal to the floor. NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON, could not find the transmission plug to check that fluid. brought to the dealer even though vehicle was running okay several days later to find out why this happened. their machine did not pick up anything wrong. i only do city driving so i rarely go over 40 mph. dealer blamed bad gas. could it be possible that because i hardly ever go over 40 the vehicle put itself in limp mode. dealer did not check my transmission fluid even though i asked them to. the us postal service sends me pics of the mail i will receive for that day. around june 14 2022 it showed a letter from 2015 hyundai elantra official business penalty for private use 300 important vehicle information address change? please contact our customer service dept- can you please send me that letter
Hyundai blue link not working and also was told that older model support is being discontinued which severely impacts value and selling points of the vehicle as well as some great safety features such as GPS tracking , collision information and remote start among others including Hyundai roadside assistance I believe a recall should be made to get a blue link module installed in all affected vehicles 2012-2016 models of cars as the technology was available then to support the new telecommunications but they neglected to add it to the affected vehicles thus impacting major aspects to the vehicles
Car stutteres than stalls especially near time of oil change , oil light flashes when going moderate to low speeds and than it stutters and the engine cuts and the engine light , oil light and battery light come on if engine not started right away the power brakes and steering also die making it a dangerous situation especially on a highway happened many times between 2020-2022 but it has been getting worse happening 4 times just today 4/21/2022 Engine type NU 1.8L Car make and model:2015 Hyundai Elantra Limited
Both of my front power window regulators broke while driving with my children in the car. When they broke I was rolling the window down in June, nothing else. The jazzers is that there was a loud metallic sounding bang, similar to something like a brick or a rock hitting the car, which was enough to make me and my children scream and I of course reacted by squinting or shielding and almost crashed into the person in front of me in traffic the 2nd time, the first one was the drivers side and I was on a parkway in May (one month after the car turned 5 years old) Thank goodness I didn’t but this is a huge hazard that could of resulted in someone getting hurt. I know there are many of these issues and because my car is 6 years old and under 100,000 miles (only 62,000) it doesn’t qualify for warranty coverage. I can’t roll my windows down and I have one window taped up temporarily until I can afford to fix it.
Car shuts down while driving. Usually as I slow down to turn, stop or change lanes. Very scarey.
Purchased my car from CarMax in February 2020 as a used vehicle with 30k miles on it and towards the end of 2020 around September I noticed my car paint was literally falling off in small chips and in November a huge chunk of paint fell off my the trunk part of my car. I went to the Hyundai center on Cassatt to see if it can be repaired by warranty and I was informed they couldn't do it but would file a good will claim on my behalf. I waited months for my claim to be processed and it was never done. I filed a complaint with Hyundai Corporate office and after waiting 3 months to hear from them they said they couldn't do anything. I discovered online that there was a lawsuit filed against Elantra for cars that had pearl white paint and it was thrown out. I also discovered there are currently thousands of complaints on Facebook in an Elantra car group where people who recently purchased Elantras within the past 5 years that carried pearl white paint are having the same issues and have also filed a complaint and their complaint is being ignored because Elantra is claiming expired warranty and no recall when they in fact have had recalls on cars with white pearl paint. They are not accepting responsibility for defective paint and they aren't willing to do another recall when clearly there are many people upset about this issue and it's gonna cost people thousands to fix the paint on cars they are still paying for. It's not fair to the customers who spent their money and it's not right and I believe an investigation should be a factor to the complaints of many customers who are left with a huge bill just a few months after buying. No recalls were on my car fax paperwork and I felt deceived by the purchase I made.
Hyndai performed a service campaign to enhance their vehicle software to better detect abnormal engine noise. Since the campaign, this vehicle has had 3 instances in 8 weeks where the P1326 Knock Signal error code was detected. Per Hyundai's Service Campaign bulletin, this code indicates engine bearing failure. When the code is detected, the check engine light flashes and the engine is limited at 2000 rpm. This has occured while driving at highway speed in heavy traffic, and there is a significant safety risk due to the vehicle's sudden and unexpected deceleration which creates a high chance of being hit from behind. Hyundai has repeatedly treated this error code as sensor and electrical problem replacing electical components, clearing the code, and allowing the vehicle to be returned to service as if normal. However, per their service campaign, the failure is due to faulty engine bearings. This action of not correcting the mechanical problem has created multiple chances of potential collision and injury.
Vehicle stalled while driving in the middle of road with on coming traffic. Failed transmission 6 yr Hyundai Elantra with 69,857 miles 2015 purchased in May 2016. Inspected by dealership Wayne Mazda, Wayne NJ. Since early October 2021 jumping, stalling during gear shifting especially drive and neutral Please be advised my 6yr vehicle with 69,867 miles requires a replacement transmission Purchased from Wayne Hyundai Auto Mall 5/2016 Wayne NJ How can I report and or research my rights as a consumer? Dealership failing to repair or replace due to faulty warranty.
How is it even possible for the transmission to go out at 107,000 miles…… we did everything to keep up with car just to go out with low miles..
On about October 3, 2021, around 5 pm ET my car, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra, shut off while driving. I waited a few minutes and it started; I was able to make a u-turn and it shut -off again. I waited a few minutes and my car started. I drove home slowly and ran through a stop sign to keep my car from shutting off again. On October 4, 2021, I had my car towed from my home to Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta. On October 5, 2021, the dealer said because they are not able to replicate the error, they cannot repair my car and to come and pick it up and pay a diagnostic fee. My car has a remaining 10 year/100,000-mile warranty on the engine, transmission and trans axle. I searched the internet and found that my car model and other Hyundai models have shut off/stalled while driving. The dealer service mgr. responded that these internet articles don't mean anything. For safety reasons, I have not picked up the car because I am afraid to drive the car. The dealer states they will drive around and try to replicate the issue, but refuses to repair the car, or provide a loaner or car rental reimbursement during this ordeal. I have filed a complaint with their Consumer Affairs Dept., the Better Business Bureau and the Georgia Consumer Affairs Office. The consumer provided information a lawsuit pertaining to the same year, make, and model of her vehicle.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST TIP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER SANSONE HYUNDAI (90-100 US-1, AVENEL, NJ 07001, (888) 566-5311) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT FAILURE WAS DUE TO OIL DEPOSITS BLOCKING THE VALVES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I NOTICED A SLIGHT TICKING SOUND AT AROUND 63,000 MILES IN MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WHILE MY CAR WAS IDLING. I HAD THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THEY DETERMINED A KNOCKING/PINGING IN THE AREA OF CYLINDER NUMBER ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. OIL HAS ALWAYS BEEN CHANGED AROUND 3,000 MILES. THE SOUNDS HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND HAS BECOME A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WITH LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT NOW AND THE ENGINE IS STARTING TO FAIL MORE. THE LOUD KNOCKING SOUND IS CONSTANT FROM IDLE THROUGH ACCELERATION. I WAS CURIOUS IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE SO I DID SOME RESEARCH. MANY CARS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE I'M HAVING. IM AFRAID THE ENGINE IS GOING TO SEIZE SOON WHILE DRIVING AND I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS PROBLEM NOW. I DON'T THINK A CAR SHOULD BE DOING THIS AT 70,000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE AT A STANDSTILL AND ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000.
2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA LIMITED (I BOUGHT NEW-ONLY OWNER). COLOR IS PEARL WHITE AND THE PAINT IS PEELING OFF ON HOOD AND ROOF. THE CAR LOOKS TERRIBLE. I HAVE A 1996 MAZDA PROTEJE AND A 2005 HONDA CRV AND THEY BOTH LOOKS BETTER THAN MY 2015 HYUNDAI. VERY UPSET WITH HYUNDAI THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THE PAINT.
THERE'S A KNOCKING ,TAPPING COMING FROM MOTOR, I WAS CROSSING INTERSECTION ACROSS A HIGHWAY MY VEHICLE STALLED A BIT THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO DIE. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THERE WAS A CLAIM OUT THAT THE MOTORS WERE DEFECTIVE AS FAR AS PISTONS TAPPING , LOSING POWER. I HAVE CONTACTED ALL I COULD ALL SAME SAME THING , SORRY YOUR WARRANTY IS EXPIRED.I HAVE KEPT UP WITH OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE CAR ONLY HAD ROUGHLY 4,000 MILES ON IT. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER MILES OVER 10000 (IF YOUR A SECOND OWNER )OR 140000 IF YOUR ORIGINAL OWNER. I BOUGHT MY CAR FROM ENTERPRISE CAR DEALERSHIPS THEY BOUGHT IT FROM HYUNDAI. MY ISSUE IS I WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT A FAULTY ENGINE UNTIL IT WAS TO LATE. AND THAT WASN'T EVEN FROM HYUNDAI OR DEALERSHIP. IT WAS FROM THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PAPER. THE REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT OF MOTOR HYUNDAI IS OFFERING EXCLUDES PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT HAD NO IDEA AND HAVE EXCEEDED MILES OF THEIR ORIGINAL 100000 MILE WARRANTY. PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT HAD AND HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH MOTOR ARE AT RISK FOR STALLING OR WHATEVER ELSE BECAUSE WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED ABOUT PROBLEMS. I'M THANKFUL MY CAR DIDN'T DIE ON CROSSING HIGHWAY/ INTERSTATE WITH TRAFFIC . MY PROBLEMS WITH MOTOR THAT THEY KNEW WAS FAULTY JUST STARTED AT 127,000 MILES OR SO. PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THESE ISSUES, HYUNDAI I FEEL ARE TRYING TO COVER UP OR REFUSE A RECALL TO SAVE THEM MONEY.
CAR STALLS WHEN STOPPING OR IDLING IF YOU DO NOT KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GAS. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST 10 MINS OF WARMING UP THE CAR BUT THEN HAPPENS FOR THE REMAINING TIME. I HAVE HAD A TUNE UP, THROTTLE BODY SERVICED, CRANKSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED, AND FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS FIXED FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AND NOTHING HAS HELPED.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IT STARTED MAKING A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE AREA AROUND THE ENGINE. THIS NOISE EVENTUALLY GREW TO A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. THE KNOCKING NOISE CONTINUED AND I BEGAN TO FEEL IT VIBRATING IN MY STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN GRAND JUNCTION, CO TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN CAME OUT AND AS SOON AS I DESCRIBED IT HE SAID HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN RECEIVING A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND INSPECTING IT HE ASSURED ME THAT THE CONNECTION RODS AND BEARINGS WERE GOING OUT AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY ENGINE THAT HAD 50,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS ALSO GIVEN THE OPTION TO ONLY REPLACE THE LOWER HALF OF MY ENGINE FOR HALF THE PRICE BUT THAT PRICE WOULD POSSIBLY EVEN OUT TO AN ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THE COST OF LABOR WOULD GO UP. I DECIDED TO RESEARCH THIS ISSUE FURTHER AND HAVE FOUND THAT RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND ISSUE BUT MY VEHICLE HAS YET TO BE PART OF THE RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR MY FAMILY AND I AS I HAVE NOT USED THIS VEHICLE SINCE MAY 2020 AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN OR WILL DO TO HELP ME BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR MY VEHICLE.
I HAVE A 2015 ELANTRA THAT DEVELOPED AN ENGINE NOISE AT 135,000 MILES. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AT A SPEED OF 65, THE ENGINE BECAME EXTREMELY LOUD. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY VEHICLE. I PULLED OUT THE DIPSTICK AND IT HAD METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL. THE CAR LOST ALL ABILITY TO MOVE. THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT WORK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD REV ON ITS OWN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A HYAUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 1 QUART OF OIL. THE ISSUE WITH THAT, IS MY LOW OIL LIGHT NEVER CAME ON IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP RAN THE CODES, AND IT SHOWED NOTHING ON THE SCANNER.
THE VEHICLE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AROUND 80,000 MILES. AT 101000 MILES THE ENGINE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD TERRIBLE LOUD KNOCKING AND CRUNCHING NOISES WITH VERY LITTLE POWER. THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 70MPH. THE KNOCKING ISSUE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP SEVERAL TIMES TO ALLEN TURNER HYUNDAI IN PENSACOLA, FL AND IGNORES. THE SERVICE STAFF TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS NOT GETTING THE OIL CHANGED (I STOPPED GOING TO THEM BECAUSE OF THEIR TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE). ONCE I PRODUCED RECEIPTS PROVING THEM WRONG THEY SAID THAT I WASN'T GETTING IT CHANGED OFTEN ENOUGH EVEN THOUGH I GOT IT CHANGED ACCORDING TO THE TIME FRAME THEY TOLD AND WHAT WAS STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. THEY EVENTUALLY AGREED TO FIX IT FOR $500 AFTER HAVING TO GET LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS WITH EVERYONE UP TO THE GENERAL MANAGER. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST STRESSFUL SITUATIONS I'VE EVER HAD. THE VEHICLE STILL HAD $10,000 OWED ON THE LOAN. EVEN AFTER THE ISSUE WAS CORRECTED THE CAR NEVER GOT BACK TO WORKING WELL AT ALL. TO GET RID OF IT I HAD TO LEASE A VEHICLE FOR NEARLY $600 A MONTH TO RID MYSELF OF THE NEGATIVE EQUITY. BUYER BEWARE
I HAVE REPEATEDLY EXPERIENCED STICKING CALIPERS (EVIDENCED BY PARKING BREAK NOT DISENGAGING AT 20,000 MILES AND AGAIN AT 38,000) AND EXTREME WEARING OF THE ROTORS. FRONT ROTORS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 20,000 MILES, 39,000 MILES. REAR ROTORS REQUIRED RESURFACING AT 20,000 MILES, 39,000 MILES. REAR AND FRONT ROTORS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AT 65,000 MILES. EXPERIENCE SHUDDERING WHILE BRAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO ROTORD.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 68 MILES PER HOUR I NOTICED AN ODD SKIPPING IN THE STEERING. EVENTUALLY THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE AND A STEERING WARNING LIGHT AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. WE DROVE TO A GAS STATION, TURNED IT OFF AND WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. THE SKIPPING CONTINUED AND WE HAVE HAD 2 MORE INSTANCES OF THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT, BOTH TIMES AT SLOW SPEEDS WHICH MADE IT INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT I NEED TO TAKE THE CAR TO GET LOOKED AT BY A CERTIFIED HYUNDAI SERVICE TECHNICIAN. WHEN I REACHED OUT TO THEM, THEY EXPLAINED THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC PAYMENT AS WELL AS ANY REPAIR COSTS SINCE MY WARRANTY JUST EXPIRED AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE ON THIS MODEL.
WHEN MY TURNING LIGHT SIGNAL LIGHT COMES ON IT I'M THINKING IT TIME TO CHANGE THE LIGHT I DID THAT AND THE LIGHT STAYS ON. NOW I REALIZE THIS THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD LAST YEAR WITH MY CAR AND THEY SAID IT'S A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM NOW IT'S DOING IT AGAIN. NOW BOTH OF MY TURNING SIGNAL LIGHT ARE NOT WORKING WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON. BUT ONCE THE LIGHTS GO OFF THE TURNING SIGNAL WORKS AGAIN.
ELECTRIC PROBLEM : WHEN CAR COOLS OFF ,SITS IN HARD RAIN FOR NUMEROUS HOURS OR OVERNIGHT ,THERE IS A PROBLEM AFTER RESTARTING. NEITHER THE HEADLIGHTS NOR WINDSHIELD WIPERS OR AIR BLOWER WORKS UNTIL THE CAR IS FULLY WARMED UP AND DRIVEN FOR ABOUT HALF AN HOUR ALL ARE ONGOING. SUSPENSION PROBLEM : A WHILE BACK THERE WAS A RECALL ABOUT A FRONT SPRING , NO DETAILS,INCLUDING 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA'S WHEN THE CAR SITS OVERNIGHT, IS STARTED, IT WILL EMIT A CREAKING / RATTLING SOUND FROM THE FRONT , TRAVELING OVER A SERIES OF BUMPS , THEN DISAPPEARS . *TR
ENGINE HAD A CLICKING NOISE, CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING. BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL DID NOT OPERATE. CAR ROLLED UNTIL IT GOT SLOW ENOUGH TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, ESPECIALLY IF THE ENGINE IS STILL COLD, I WILL SUDDENLY NOT BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE IS STILL RUNNING. THEN WHEN I SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE LIKE IT'S ALMOST GOING TO DIE ALTOGETHER. THEN IF I TRY TO ACCELERATE AGAIN, IT'S ALMOST LIKE THERE IS NO POWER TO DRIVE,OR THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLS, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGINS TO FLASH AND THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON. THE ONLY WAY THEN TO BE ABLE TO KEEP DRIVING IS IF I COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE AND TURN THE IGNITION COMPLETELY OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT WILL USUALLY TAKE 3-5 TRIES TO GET THE CAR TO START AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS NEARLY 1-3 TIMES A WEEK, AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT'S NOT RELATED TO THE ENGINE RECALL THAT THEY ISSUED, EVEN THOUGH IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME EXACT ISSUES THAT IS AFFECTING THE OTHER VEHICLES. THERE HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 20 OCCASIONS WHERE I WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY AND THEN MY VEHICLE DIES OR LOSES POWER AND THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE.
I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT TODAY. I WAS HIT BY A TRANSPORT TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY DOING AT LEAST 60 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS HIT 3 TIMES, TWICE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE (DOOR AND BACK TIRE AREA) THEN CAR WAS SPUN AROUND AND HIT HEAD ON. THE CAR HAD TO BE DRAGGED IF THE HIGHWAY, EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD WAS ON THE ROAD AND WINDSHIELD CRACKED. THE HOOD WAS LIFTED RIGHT UP AT WINDSHIELD. I AM MORE THAN CONCERNED THE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHY DID OUR AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOY??? AFTER SPINNING ACROSS HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A STOP FACING ON COMING TRAFFIC. WE WERE APPALLED AND VERY SCARED. WHY DIDN'T THAT SAFETY FEATURE HELP KEEP US SAFE?
I JUST NEED CHECK CAR ABS OIL
2015 ELANTRA-ENGINE KNOCK/TICKING ON STARTUP. CURRENTLY WITH EVERY START. VEHICLE HAS 53000 MILES. QUIETS DOWN SLIGHTLY WHEN NORMAL OPERATING TEMP IS REACHED. MORE PRONOUNCED UPON ACCELERATION AND LESS WHEN COASTING.
WHENEVER IT RAINS MY TRUNK FILLS UP WITH WATER. I THROUGH THAT MAYBE IT WAS THE LINING ON MY VEHICLE BUT IT IS INTACT. WHEN THE TRUNKS FILLS UP IT GETS SO HIGH THAT IT FLOWS TO THE BACKS SEATS AND SOAKING THEM. IF NOT MAINTAINED PROPERLY IT WILL CAUSE A VERY BAD ODOR AND MOLD. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN MY DRIVEWAY.
PAINT IS PEELING, FIRST TIME WAS ON THE FRONT ROOF AND THE MOST RECENT WAS ON THE TOP OF THE DECKLID SEE PHOTO ATTACHED. LOCAL DEALER IS UNSURE IF IT FALLS UNDER WARRANTY SO I HAD TO TAKE IT TO A PAINTSHOP OUTSIDE THE DEALER TO GET IT REPAINT. THE PAINT REPAIR TECHNICIAN SAID THAT HAPPENS WHEN SHEETMETAL GETS CONTAMINATED PRIOR TO GETTING PAINTED. SEE PHOTO ATTACHED. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN PAINT PEELED OFF. IT STARTS LIKE A BLISTER THEN PEELS OFF.
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER BACK TO COLLEGE THIS JANUARY (2020) MY HUSBAND AND I BOTH NOTICED THAT THE STEERING ON HER 2015 ELANTRA WAS STICKING. WE ONLY NOTICED IT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT SEEMED TO BE FINE AT LOWER SPEEDS AND WHILE WE WERE DRIVING IN TOWN ONCE WE GOT TO HER SCHOOL. BUT IT WAS REALLY BAD ON THE HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY ONCE THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN FOR 10 MINUTES OR SO. IT WOULD DRIVE STRAIGHT, BUT AS SOON AS THERE WAS ANY KIND OF GRADUAL CURVE IN THE ROAD IT WOULD STICK IN THE STRAIGHT POSITION AND NEED EXTRA FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO FOLLOW THE ROAD. THAT WOULD RESULT IN OVER TURNING THAT NEEDED CORRECTING BACK. THIS SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS. I CANNOT BELIEVE WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN ONLINE THAT THIS ISSUE DOES NOT AT LEAST HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN ATTACHED TO IT.
ON NOV 8TH 2019 I WAS T-BONED ON MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE, BY A DRIVER THAT RAN THEIR RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. MY LIGHT WAS GREEN AND I WAS IN MOTION THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE TIME OF IMPACT. I HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN AN AMBULANCE BECAUSE OF INJURIES. AS I READ COMPLAINTS THOUGH, I SEE PEOPLE AIRBAGS ARE DEPLOYING WITHOUT IMPACT.
THE PAINT HAS STARTED TO CHIP ON MULTIPLES OF THIS VEHICLE. IN THE SAME EXACT SPOTS.
SMALL CONNECTER, BETWEEN THE BRAKES AND THE BREAK LIGHT SWITCH INDICATOR, MADE OF PLASTIC WORE AWAY. RESULTED IN THE BREAKS GOING ALL THE WAY AND CAUSING THE BREAK LIGHTS TO STAY ON, EVEN WHEN CAR IS OFF.
AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING WITH OUT IMPACT.
THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS STATIONARY AND HOOKED UP TO JUMPER CABLES TO JUMP A DEAD CAR. THE ELANTRA WAS RUNNING TO ALLOW THE OTHER CAR TO CHARGE. THE FUSE BOX ON THE ELANTRA CAUGHT FIRE WHICH SPREAD TO THE JUMPER CABLES AND TO THE OTHER CAR. THERE WAS MUCH MORE DAMAGE TO THE INTERIOR OF THE ELANTRA THAN THERE WAS TO THE OTHER CAR, WHICH ONLY HAD MINOR COSMETIC BURNING. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ELANTRA AND THE DAMAGE HAS NOT YET BEEN ASSESSED.
THE ENGINE ON MY CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND GET IT STARTED AGAIN. I TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME AND IT STARTED KNOCKING AND STALLED AGAIN. AFTER THAT, IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO SAID THE ENGINE WAS SEIZED. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN BUT IT WAS KNOCKING LOUDLY. I ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WHICH COST CLOSE TO $6000 FOR A USED ENGINE. I HAD CLOSE TO 127,000 MILES ON THE CAR (I DRIVE 100 MILES PER DAY FOR WORK) AND HYUNDAI WOULD NOT HELP SINCE I AM OUT OF THE WARRANTY MILEAGE.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH TRYING TO KEEP THE CAR DRIVING STRAIGHT DOWN THE HIGHWAY. AT "IN TOWN SPEEDS" IT SEEMS FINE. IT FEELS AS IF THE STEERING WHEEL GETS STUCK IN PLACE OR LOCKED UP. THE CAR WANTS TO ALWAYS GO EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT, WHICHEVER WAY THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO SLIGHTLY. I THOUGHT THAT IT MAY BE THE TIRES SO I HAD THEM ROTATED, NO CHANGE. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES, STILL NO CHANGE. I HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED AND ALL STEERING AND SUSPENSION ITEMS VISUALLY INSPECTED AND ALL WAS FINE. IT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, AND NOW IS TO THE POINT WHERE I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH TODAY TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD RUN INTO THIS ISSUE FOR A POSSIBLE SOLUTION. WOW WAS I SURPRISED TO SEE HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. I THEN CAME TO YOUR SITE AND ENTERED MY VIN AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. AS I WAS READING ON I FOUND WHERE TO ENTER A COMPLAINT HERE SO I AM DOING SO IN HOPES TO HAVE A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM THAT MANY ARE HAVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR STARTED TO FLICKER AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED AND THE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER WERE CHANGED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. SOUTH BAY HYUNDAI (20433 HAWTHORNE BLVD, TORRANCE, CA 90503, (310) 974-8180) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,659.
I STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND WENT TO MOVE UP A FEW FEET. I TOUCHED THE GAS PETAL AND THE CAR FLEW INTO THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WITH THIS FRONT END COLLISION. I WAS ON A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY IN 5 O'CLOCK TRAFFIC. NO RAIN. I AM UNSURE IF IT WAS THE GAS PETAL OR SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE GAS LINE ITSELF
WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR TWO MONTHS AGO FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP. MY SON WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE CAR AND THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A CAR DEALERSHIP NEARBY AND THEY LOOKED AT THE ENGINE AND SAID THAT THE ENGINE LOCKED. ALSO, WHEN YOU OPEN UP THE HOOD OF THE CAR THERE'S ALSO OIL ON THE INSIDE OF THE HOOD OF THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND NOTICED AN OIL LEAK. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,103.
WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
I T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE WHO TURNED ACROSS MY LANE IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 TO 35 MPH AND HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR WITH THE FRONT END OF MINE. NONE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I INJURED MY NECK DUE TO THAT CRASH. ALSO MY CHILD AND HUSBAND WERE INJURED AS WELL. I AM REPORTING A FAULTY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA AIRBAG. IT DID NOT DEPLOY IN MY CRASH. WE WERE INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT.
I WAS ON A CITY STREET AND A DRIVER BEHIND ME INFORMED ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT ILLUMINATE. I CHECKED AT HOME AND THEY DID NOT LIGHT UP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE VEHICLE IS MALFUNCTIONING.
CAR BURNS OIL WHICH HAS NOW DESTROYED CATALYTIC CONVERTER. DEALER REFUSES TO CORRECT
CAR USED TO RUN WELL , BUT LAST WEEK STARTED TO MAKE A VERY LOUSY NOISE FROM THE ENGINE , I DONT FEEL SAFE TO USE IT ANYMORE ,ALSO THE CAR DONT HAVE THE SAME PUSH TO MAKE IT RUN I HAVE TO PUSH THE PEDAL ALMOST COMPLETELY BUT STILL IT DONT .IT DONT WORK AS IT USED TO BE
ENGINE BEGAN KNOCKING AT VERY LOW MILEAGE. KNOCK WAS APPARENT WHILE STATIONARY, DRIVING, ACCELERATING. ENGINE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. IF ENGINE HAD FAILED DURING OPERATION IT WOULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION.
SEEKING TO ACCELERATE AS I MERGED ONTO A HIGHWAY, VEHICLE RPM EXCEEDED 6,000 WITHOUT ACCELERATION. DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR, TRIED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE BACKFIRED. RESULT: BLOWN HEAD GASKET ON VEHICLE WITH ONLY 62,000 KM. I CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 8,500 KM AND HYUNDAI IS DEBATING THE WARRANTY.
I WAS IN MOTION ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE AN AWFUL TICKING AND GRINDING NOISE AND THEN STALL. I LOSE STEERING AND BRAKES AND HAVE BEEN IN TOO MANY CLOSE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS. I HAVE KIDS AND THIS IS NOT SAFE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THERE ARE NO DASH INDICATORS ON NOR ANY CODES COMING UP WHEN SCANNED. I READ ABOUT THIS FROM OTHER PEOPLE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. THE SCARIEST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL, CARS IN FRONT AND BACK OF ME. MY CAR STALLED AND WITH NO POWER STEERING AND NO BRAKES I BARELY MANAGED TO SWERVE AROUND THE CAR IN FRONT, DODGE THE ONCOMING CAR IN OTHER LANE, I THEN HAD TO GO INTO AN INTERSECTION PRAYING TO GOD THAT NO OTHER CARS WERE COMING THRU AT THE SAME TIME AND THEN MANAGED TO PULL OVER. DID I MENTION MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR!!!! PLEASE RECALL THESE CARS FOR STALLING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
ITS A LOUD CRACKLING TICKING NOISE THAT COMES FROM MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRAS ENGINE. WHEN I DRIVE THE THE TICKING TURNS INTO KNOCKING AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY IN MOTION. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE WHAT THIS ISSUE COULD BE. I'VE READ COUNTLESS STATEMENTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A URGENT MANUFACTURING ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO FIXED IMMEDIATELY.
CAR IS STALLING AND ENGINE TURNS OFF WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS HEAVY TRAFFIC. HAVE TO PUT CAR IN PARK AND RESTART. ALL INDICATORS ON DASH TURN ON SUDDENLY AND ENGINE SHUTS OFF. THIS HAS OCCURRED REPEATIDLY WHENEVER I AM IN TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY
I BOUGHT MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA FROM THE CARMAX IN OAK LAWN ILLINOIS IN SEPTEMBER OF 2018 AND SINCE THEN I'VE EXPERIENCED A FEW PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE AND CARMAX IS ONLY TELLING ME THAT IT WAS A PLASTIC BAG ON THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THAT IT WILL BURN OFF ON ITS OWN. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THEM ON APRIL 17, 2019 AND TODAY IS MAY 14, 2019 AND I'M ALMOST POSITIVE THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE A WHOLE MONTH FOR A BAG TO BURN OFF AN EXHAUST PIPE. ALSO I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY BRAKE SYSTEM, WHEN I BRAKE THE CAR ACTS LIKE IT'S STALLING AND IT MAKES A CLICKING NOISE AS IF THE CAR IS ON ICE AND THE EXTRA BRAKE IS HELPING THE VEHICLE TO STOP. I KNOW THIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN THIS WAY. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN THAT TRAVEL IN THIS VEHICLE EVERYDAY AND I CAN'T DRIVE A FAULTY VEHICLE AND SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THEM WHILE DRIVING IT.
I WAS ON THE WAY TO TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO HER SISTER'S HOUSE, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE WE WERE STOPPED BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY. SO, I HAD TO PUT IT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL, AND TURNOVER THE CAR ONCE I TURNED IT OFF FOR A MOMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START INTERMITTENTLY AND WOULD STALL. THE FAILURE LEFT THE CONTACT STRANDED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. WALSER HYUNDAI (8100 LAKELAND AVE N, BROOKLYN PARK, MN 55445, (651) 705-0151) WAS NOTIFIED AND REPLACED THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE ASSEMBLIES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ASKED FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
THE ISSUE IS RELATED TO AIR VENTILATION IN THE CAR IF I SET THE OPTIONS CORRECTLY TO GET OUTSIDE FRESH AIR WITH NO A/C RUNNING, AFTER SOME TIME I FEEL LIKE I AM INHALING ENGINE EXHAUST. MADE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS BUT EACH TIME I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S WORKING AS DESIGNED. AIR VENTS HAVE SOME ISSUE WHICH LETS THE ENGINE EXHAUST GET INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN.
VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP WITH FOOT STILL DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDDLE. BRAKES RELEASED AND CAR SURGED FORWARD HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED BEFORE LUNGING FORWARD ON SOUTHBOUD EXIT 185 OF I95 IN BANGOR MAINE04401
VERY LOUD TICKING NOISE FROM ENGINE. WOULD NOT STOP WHEN CAR WAS WARMED UP AS I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD BY THE DEALER IN THE FALL OR 2018. CONTINUALLY GOT LOUDER AND LOUDER AND I KNEW IT WAS NOT RIGHT. TOOK TO DEALER HAVE BEEN TOLD NEEDS A BRAND NEW ENGINE. FAULTY PISTONS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD ABNORMAL NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. BILLION AUTO HYUNDAI (3401 W 41ST ST, SIOUX FALLS, SD 57106) DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WAS MAKING A "TICKING" SOUND. GETS LOUDER AS YOU ACCELERATE. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC - ADVISED PISTONS/ENGINE ARE CAUSING SOUND TO CONTACT HYUNDAI DEALER AS THERE HAS BEEN MANY ISSUES WITH THE CARS ENGINES. CAN DRIVE THE CAR AT THIS TIME, WAITING ON DEALER TO RESPOND AND HOPE ENGINE DOESN'T BLOW UP ON ME. CAR ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES.
MY ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A CLICKING NOISE IN JANUARY 2019. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT ALL WOULD START FLASHING WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND MY ENGINE WOULD DIE. I TOOK IT TO MY CAR DEALERSHIP, WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT, BUT THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY SO THEY ARE REPLACING IT. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS BUT I DO KNOW THAT AN ENGINE TOTALLY DYING AT 58,000 IS NOT GOOD. THEY DID MENTION THAT THEY WOULD CHECK THE OIL FOR METAL SHAVINGS. I LOOKED THAT UP ONLINE, WHICH HAPPENS WHEN AN ENGINE IS POORLY MADE AND THE MOTORS ARE SCRAPING AGAINST EACH OTHER, PRODUCING METAL SHAVINGS, WHICH THEN GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE ENGINE THROUGH THE OIL. EVERY TIME THE ENGINE DIED I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET, GOING ABOUT 30 MPH.
I WAS RETURNING HOME THIS AFTERNOON AND MY WIFE'S HYUNDAI ELANTRA WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE BRAKE LIGHTS LIT. I FIGURED MY WIFE HAD LEFT HER LIGHTS ON AND LOOKED IN THE CAR TO SEE THEY WERE OFF. I STARTED THE CAR AND PRESSED THE BRAKE A FEW TIMES BUT THE LIGHTS REMAINED ON SO I THOUGHT THE SWITCH HAD GONE BAD. MY WIFE WATCHED AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH MANUALLY AND THE SWITCH WORKED BUT THE PEDAL DID NOT COME FAR ENOUGH BACK TO DEPRESS THE SWITCH AND I SAW ONLINE THAT A PAD WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PRESENT BUT WAS MISSING. I FOUND RECALLS FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS MENTIONING AN ISSUE WITH PAD DETERIORATION AND FIGURE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT MIGHT BE HAPPENING TO THIS MODEL AS WELL.
2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WITH 43,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR VIBRATES AND SHAKES WHILE IN THE DRIVE OR REVERSE WHEN STOPPED WITH THE DRIVER'S FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE VIBRATION AND SHAKING VARY IN INTENSITY. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED DUE TO ROUGH IDLE. I HAD THE SERVICE PERFORMED AND IT HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HYUNDIA NEEDS TO ADDRESS.
"TAKATA RECALL". NOTICE WHEN PRESSING THE BREAKS AND HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR MAN HOLE COVER THE BRAKES SEEM TO RELEASE AND SKIP FORWARD LOSING CONTROL TO SOME DEGREE. I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE FIX AFTER INSTALLING BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS BUT IT STILL CONTINUES. I'M CONCERNED WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN DURING THE WINTER IN ICEY ROAD OR SNOW COVERED ROAD CONDITIONS.
STEERING BINDS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS REQUIRING EXTRA EFFORT TO MOVE STEERING WHEEL. THIS ADDED EFFORT RESULTS IN OVER COMPENSATION ONCE BINDING IS OVERCOME. THIS IS EXPERIENCED WHILE ADJUSTING TO MAINTAIN FORWARD DIRECTION, AS WELL AS TURNING. IT IS NOT QUITE AS NOTICEABLE AT LOWER SPEEDS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW.
WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR FOR YEARS NOW. 2 OF THE ISSUES THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT EVEN FIX THE PROBLEM. ON 11/15/2016 WITH 12185 MILES ON THE CAR, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY ON THE CAR. ON 05/22/2017 WITH 15516 MILES ON THE CAR, WE HAD TO REPLACE (2) TIRES ON THE CAR BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE BALD. ON 11/03/2017 WITH 18268 ON THE CAR, WE HAD TO REPLACE THE OTHER (2) TIRES ON THE CAR BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE BALD. WE HAD PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STALLING. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR.ON 01/18/2018 WITH 20747 MILES ON THE CAR. WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SOUND WHEN THE CAR STARTS. WHEN THE CAR STARTS IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL CLINKING. IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE CAR IS COLD IN THE MORNING OR ANYTIME OF THE DAY. WHEN I START THE CAR, IT MAKES THIS SOUND. I HAD TO TAPE THE SOUND SO THE SERVICE ADVISOR COULD HEAR THE SOUND. THE TECH COULD NOT HEAR IT. 02/08/2018 WITH 20749 MILES ON THE CAR. WE STILL HAD THE PROBLEM WITH A SOUND WHEN THE CAR STARTED. WHEN THE CAR STARTS IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL CLINKING.THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT. THE NEXT DAY THE TECH DID HEAR THE SOUND. THEY TESTED THE ALTERNATOR AND IT WAS BAD. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR ON THE CAR. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR I STILL HAD THE SAME SOUND AS BEFORE. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ALTERNATOR DID NOT STOP THE SOUND. 03/20/2018 WITH 20802 MILES ON THE CAR. WE ARE STILL HAVING THE SAME SOUND WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT TIME OF THE DAY THE CAR IS STARTED, THE SAME SOUND HAPPENS. IT SOUNDS LIKE A METAL CLINKING. I HAD A TAPE OF THE SOUND, THE TECH DID NOT HEAR A THING. WE ARE STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SOUND WHEN THE CAR STARTS. I AM SCARED TO START THE CAR BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. I AM SCARED IT MIGHT BLOW UP WHEN THE CAR STARTS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, AN ODOR OF FUEL ENTERED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ABC HYUNDAI (6825 REDWOOD ST, LAS VEGAS, NV 89118, (702) 475-8698) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT A FAILURE COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO ABC HYUNDAI, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,900. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I'M WRITING TO INFORM YOU THAT THE SUNROOF EXPLODED I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM SEATTLE, WA TO BELLEVUE, WA TODAY AFTER DROPPING OFF A FRIEND. I WAS SOMEWHERE ON I-90 EASTBOUND IN BETWEEN W MERCER WAY AND THE I-405 INTERCHANGE WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND ABOVE MY HEAD THAT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR. NOT WANTING TO STOP ON THE FREEWAY, I CAME HOME AND STOPPED THE CAR. AFTER GETTING OUT, I NOTICED THAT THE SUNROOF ON THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED AND THERE WAS A BIG HOLE IN IT. BITS OF BROKEN GLASS ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE SLIDING INTERIOR COVER ON THE SUNROOF. LUCKILY THE COVER WAS CLOSED OR THE GLASS WOULD HAVE FALLEN ON ME AS I WAS DRIVING. I WAS VERY TIRED AFTER MY TRIP, SO I WENT TO SLEEP AND TOOK PHOTOS IN THE EVENING. I HAVE TRIED MY BEST TO SHOW HOW THE GLASS HAS EXPLODED UPWARD FROM THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THIS SHOWS THAT IT WAS NOT DUE TO A STONE OR OTHER PROJECTILE LANDING ON THE SUNROOF, AS THAT WOULD HAVE LED TO THE GLASS BEING PUSHED IN NEAR THE CENTER OF THE IMPACT. AFTER DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE OTHER REPORTS OF SUNROOFS EXPLODING SPONTANEOUSLY. I SAW THAT HYUNDAI AND KIA AUTOMOBILES HAD MANY REPORTS OF THIS, AND DECIDED TO REPORT THIS TO YOU. I HAVE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE DAMAGE AND SHARED MORE PICTURES HERE: HTTPS://1DRV.MS/F/S!AQD1R2WKHCN6IKUNUVI3NVNRMWNGHW
MY ELANTRA 2015 ( 70 K) SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES ON IT, AND SINCE THAT TIME, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THERE IS A BRIEF LACK OF RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GET UP TO SPEED WHEN MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, OR EVEN WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN ROLLING, AND WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL THERE IS A 2-3 SECOND HESITATION FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE IN A WHILE. DUE TO IT NOT HAPPENING EVERY TIME, IT IS HARD TO DUPLICATE AT THE MECHANIC SHOP FOR TESTING.
THE CAR STALLS WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP AFTER THE ENGINE HAS WARMED UP FROM DRIVING. STALLS EVERY TIME THE CAR IDLES AFTER WARM UP. CAR IS DRIVE BY WIRE WITH ALL ELECTRONIC GAS PEDAL AND THROTTLE BODY. NO MEANS OF INCREASING THE IDLE SETTING. STALLING CAN BE AVERTED BY KEEPING RIGHT FOOT ON THE GAS AND BRAKING WITH LEFT FOOT. NOT A SAFE WAY TO DRIVE.

ON SUNDAY, APRIL 15,2018, I WAS PREPARING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON MERRIMAC AVENUE IN NORFOLK VA , ON MY WAY TO CHURCH,WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE AND LOSS OF STEERING. A CAR WITHOUT AN OCCUPANT WAS SITTING TWO CAR SPACES FROM THE CORNER,MY CAR HAD STRUCK THIS CAR. I GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND SAW MY FRONT RIGHT TIRE LAYING FLAT ON THE GROUND AND MY RIGHT FENDER WAS SMASHED. THE POLICE AND AAA WERE CALLED. WHEN THE AAA DRIVER CAME HE STATED THAT MY AXLE WAS BENT. MY AIR BAG DID NOT IMPLOD.THE POLICE CAME AND NO SUMMONS WAS ISSUED. I WAS GIVEN A COPY OT THE POLICE REPORT THAT STATED THAT THE EVENT WAS A NON-REPORTABLE INCIDENT >THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER SAID THAT THE AXLE WAS BENT.THEY ORDERED ANOTHER AXLE AND THE ONE SENT BY THE MANUFACTURE WAS DAMAGED! . I FEEL THAT THIS CAR MAY BE , THOUGH REPAIRED MAY BE UNSAFE( THE SUSPENSION WAS DAMAGED ALSO I HAVE A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND THE COPY OF THE REPAIR WOK=RK DONE WHICH TOOK OVER 20 DAYS. AM I SAFE IN THIS CAR? I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD , SO I AM GOING TO SEND THIS REPORT IN THE MAIL TO YOU. I HAD SENT A REPORT EARLIER , BUT MY COMPUTER CRASHED AND HAVE NOT BEEN TO USE IT TO SEND ANOTHER FORM ,. SHOULD I CONTACT HYUNDAI? I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO! I AM SENDING THIS REPORT AGAIN BECAUSE I LOST ALL OF MY EMAILS *JS
1ST TIME THIS HAPPENED 3/15/18 AROUND 2:30-3:00 WE TOOK RIDE TO DAIRY QUEEN IN N L R , HUSBAND DROVE HOME WHEN WE GOT TO THE PARKING LOT IN OUR COMPLEX RIGHT BEFORE PARKING LOT IN FRONT OF OUR BUILDING AFTER TURNING THE CORNER LEFT WHEN THE CAR TOTALLY SHUT OFF. ALL LIGHTS LIT UP ON DASH, AFTER PUTTING IN PARK IT RESTARTED AGAIN AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET TO OUR APARTMENT PARKING AREA. 2ND TIME THIS HAPPENED WE WERE AT THE LIGHT TO TURN LEFT INTO PROMINADE! 5/13/18 AT 4:20-4:30 WE WERE TURNING INTO THE CHENAL PROMINADE AT THE RED LIGHT WHEN IT STALLED WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND US. MY HUSBAND PUT IT IN PARK RESTARTED THEN LEFT US DRIVE AGAIN.
ON SUNDAY, APRIL 15, 2018, I WAS PREPARING TI MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON MERRIMAC AVE IN NORFOLK VA, ON MY WAY TO CHURCH,, WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE AND LOSS OF STEERING. A CAR WITH NO OCCUPANT WAS SITTING TO CAR SPACES FROM THE CORNER AND MY CAR STRUCK THE CAR. I GOT OUT OF MY CAR AND SAW MY RIGHT FRONT WHEEL LAYING ON THE GROUND AND MY RIGHT FRONT FENDER WAS SMASHED. I CALLED THE POLICE AND AAA. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN A COLLISION SHOP SINCE THAT DAY. THE SHOP CALLED AND SAID THERE WOULD BE A DELAY BECAUSE THE AXLE THE MANUFACTURE SENT WAS DAMAGED!! THE SHOP HAD TO ORDER ANOTHER AXLE . I WENT ON LINE TO DETERMINE IF THIS MODEL HAS HAD OTHER REPORT OF AXLE AND SUSPENSION DEFECTS AND THERE WAS ONE REPORT THAT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS MINE. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS MODEL MAY BE A DEFECTED ? I DID NOT TAKE ANY PICTURES I HAD LOST MY CELL PHONE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED DURING ACCELERATION. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED BEFORE OR AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FITZGERALD GAITHERSBURG HYUNDAI (905 N FREDERICK AVE, GAITHERSBURG, MD 20879), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
CAR STALLS WHEN EVER IDLING OR COMING TO A STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE ENGINE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER (STEW HANSEN HYUNDAI, 11344 HICKMAN RD, CLIVE, IA 50325, (515) 253-3000) WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE SHORT BLOCK. HELLO PURCHASED 2015 ELANTRA USED WITH 29,000 MILES HAD STEERING ISSUES ALONG WITH BAD TIRES,WE EXPERIENCE A SITUATION IN THE STEERING LIKE THE CAR CANNOT DRIVE STRAIGHT WITHOUT MAKING CONSTANT LEFT OR RIGHT ADJUSTMENTS IN THE WHEEL TO KEEP IN THE LANE, ALMOST LIKE A BICYCLE CHAIN SLIPPING ON THE SPROCKET AS AN EXAMPLE, WE DID TAKE IN FOR VEHICLE INSPECTION 3 TIMES,THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG FIRST TIME AND JUST TIGHTENED STEERING COLUMN, STILL WAS FAULTY, SO SCHEDULED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT, THIS TIME A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND NEW TIRES WOULD SOLVE THIS ISSUE,DID PUT 4 NEW TIRES AND SKIPPED THE ALIGNMENT AND HAD CALLED HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA CORPORATE, THEY CALLED SERVICE MANAGER OF CAR DEALERSHIP DIRECTLY TO DO COMPLETE VEHICLE INSPECTION, NOTHING WAS WRONG ACCORDING TO THE MASTER TECHNICIAN, SO EVIDENTLY IT WAS GOING TO BE FAULTY AND IT IS STILL HAVING STEERING ISSUE, AS IT IS THE DESIGN OF THE CAR FOR THIS YEAR AS MENTIONED BY SERVICE MANAGER. THE CORPORATE PERSON I CONTACTED IS VERY SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE, BUT DEALERSHIP IS DE SENSITIZED I THINK TO THE SITUATION, THIS IS MY LAST ATTEMPT FOR POSSIBLE CONSIDERATION,ALONG WITH FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE FTC WITH THE ISSUE AND SALES NEVER PROVIDED THE MONRONEY WINDOW STICKER, I HAVE NO COMPARISON OF THE WINDOW STICKER QUOTED SALES PRICE VERSUS CONTRACT SALES PRICE AND OPTIONAL AND STANDARD EQUIPMENT. AS THIS ISSUE IS SERIOUS IN MY CONCERN IS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THIS SITUATION, WE DO NOTICE AS WELL DRIVING IN TOWN, AT THE PRESENT TIME WE HAVE TO MUCH INVESTED IN THE CAR OTHERWISE WOULD TRADE FOR A NEWER MODEL OF THE CAR AS WE DID RENT THE 2017 ELANTRA SE MODEL AND THIS ISSUE IS NOT APPARENT IN THE NEW VEHICLE, A NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE CAN BE FELT IN THE NEWER CAR. PERHAPS SOMETHING IN THE STEERING IN THE 2015 IS FAULTY OR JUST WEARS OUT PREMATURELY, THANKS FOR ACCEPTING THIS COMPLAINT
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BACK IN 2015. SINCE THEN, I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO BE SERVICED BECAUSE MY AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. MY AIRBAG HAS NOT HAD ANY MAJOR ACCIDENTS.THIS HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. EVERY TIME I GET THE PROBLEM FIXED, THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON AFTER A FEW MONTHS. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TO THE SERVICES CENTER EACH TIME AND IT SEEMS AS IF THE ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS NOT BEING RESOLVED. ALSO, I RECEIVED SOMETHING IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE WHICH HEIGHTENS MY CONCERN ABOUT THE AIRBAGS SINCE I WAS HAVING THIS ISSUE BEFORE RECEIVING THIS NOTICE. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT A WEEK AGO.
MY 2015 ELANTRA STARTED TO MAKE A TICKING NOISE WHILE PARKED AND WHILE ACCELERATING AT 50,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN DRIVING PERFORMANCE AND NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS TURNED ON. WITHIN A WEEK I BROUGHT IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TO DIAGNOSE THE NOISE. I WAS TOLD THE OIL HAD METAL SHAVINGS IN IT AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES PRIOR TO THIS.
DON'T BUY HYUNDAI CAR. I WAS SO PROUD OF BEING HYUNDAI CAR OWNER WHO HAVE TWO HYUNDAI VEHICLES. HOWEVER, I STARTED TO DISLIKE HYUNDAI. THE REASON IS THE NAVIGATING SYSTEM THAT I GOT INTO. IT POINTED WRONG LOCATION WHILE I AM DRIVING TO GO TO GOLF COURSE WHERE I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO GET THERE. I GOT PANIC IN THE FREEWAY. WHAT IF IT WAS NIGHT TIME IN THE MIDDLE OF FREEWAY? WHAT IF I WAS DRIVING FOR THE VERY IMPORTANT MEETING? I COULD STOP ON THE RAIL ROAD OR THE DANGEROUS PLACE. EVEN MORE I HAD TO DRIVE ONE HAND BECAUSE I HAD TO USE ONE HAND HOLDING THE HANDPHONE WITH MAP APP DIRECTING ME TO THE PLACE. I HAD TO STOP IN THE SIDE ROAD OF FREEWAY. IT WAS SO DANGEROUS. 2015 YEAR ELANTRA WHICH IS KIND BRAND NEW. DEALER SAID NO WARRANTY, HYUNDAI AMERICA SAID NO WARRANTY OR RECALL. I FOUND MANY OWNERS OF HYUNDAI VEHECLE DRIVERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM LIKE ME. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO RESPONSIBLITY FROM HYUNDAI. JUST PAY AND FIX IN THE DEALER. THEY SHOULD COVER THIS BY RECALLING. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT MAY BE MORE DANGEROUS THAN BROKEN BREAK. DON'T BUY HYUNDAI THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE MANUFACTURER. THEY SHOULD GO OUT OF U.S.A IF THEY DO NOT DO ANYTHING FOR THIS PROBLEM. LOVE THE CAR. DIDN'T BOTHER TO TRY THE NAV UNIT ON THE TEST DRIVE. THE HYUNDAI-FORUMS.COM
ON A RECENT TRIP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS I NOTICED A BINDING IN THE STEERING WHEEL.WHEN TRYING TO MAKE CORRECTIONS TO THE VEHICLE TRACKING THE STEERING WHEEL TOOK EXCESSIVE FORCE TO MAKE THESES CORRECTIONS.THIS EXCESSIVE FORCE OCCURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS EXCLUSIVELY.THE STEERING IN NORMAL IN TAKE OFF AND CITY DRIVING CONDITIONS.
ONE MORNING I STARTED MY CAR LIKE ANY NORMAL DAY AND THERE WAS A TICKING SOUND. IT WAS COLD OUT THAT MORNING SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT BUT I TOOK IT TO GET ITS OIL CHANGED THE NEXT DAY AND THATS THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS SOMETHING INTERNAL AND I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A DEALER. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS AN ENGINE KNOCK AND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT WAS TO BASICALLY GET A NEW ENGINE.
I WAS ON THE BELTWAY AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS BRAKING AND I PRESSED MY BRAKES TO THE FLOOR AND UPON IMPACT IT WAS STILL ROLLING. WE PULLED OVER AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR. I HAD TO PULL UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO FINALLY STOP THE VEHICLE.
STARTING A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAKING A RATTLING NOISE WHILE IN PARK AND WHILE IN DRIVE (ESPECIALLY WITH ACCELERATING). NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE METALLIC SHAVINGS IN THE OIL TO SUPPORT THAT THERE IS LOWER ENGINE FAILURE (CRANKSHAFT WITH TOO MUCH CLEARANCE) AND THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WENT TO OTHER AUTO SHOPS AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 76,000 MILES AND HAS RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE WITH OIL CHANGES EVERY 5,000 MILES.
ENGINE STARTED MAKING A TICKING NOISE WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. RAN FINE AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL, CAUSED FROM EITHER A BAD MAIN OR ROD BEARING. CAR HAD 37,000 MILES AND THE OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES.
CAR CUT OFF. WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. MY CAR IS A 2015 AND ONLY HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT.
HIGH OIL PRESSURE CAUSED OIL FILTER TO FAIL
ISSUE BEGAN 12MO W 2 NEW CARS. NON ADJUSTABLE REAR SUSPENSION DETERMINED THRU MD-BBB HEARING TO BE FAULT OF POOR HANDLING AND EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. DETERMINED BY BBB TO BE CAUSED BY BENT SUSPENSION PARTS. OWNER WAS FOUND NOT NEGLIGENT FOR FOR PARTS BENDING IMPLYING THAT NORMAL DRIVING DYNAMIC FORCES ARE CAUSING PARTS TO WARP. DUE TO AN INABILITY TO DIAGNOSE ROOT CAUSE FOR WARPED PARTS - NO ONE WANTS TO ASSESS THE ISSUE TO THAT EXTENT - TOE/CAMBER SETTINGS CAN AS SUGGESTED BY HYUNDAI CORPORATE WARP AT WILL. ISSUE IS THIS DYNAMIC CONDITION CAUSING A 'SELF STEERING' CONDITION WITH EITHER TOE/CAMPER/BOTH. HYUNDAI WANTS OWNER TO PAY THEM TO HAVE THEIR DESIGN MISTAKE GO AWAY AND THIS ISSUE GO AWAY - WHICH SEEMS STRANGE IN AND OF ITSELF. IF HYUNDAI TAKES THIS VEHICLE THEY MIGHT CONCEAL IT FROM NHTSA INVESTIGATION. I HAVE TO BEGIN FINAL NEGOTIATIONS WITH THEM BY NOV 17TH. NO ONE WISHES TO INVESTIGATE WHY PARTS ARE BENDING. DOES NHTSA WANT TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT BEFORE BEING CONCERNED. THE BBB OF MD AND HYUNDAI CORPORATE ARE DEFINITELY NOT CONCERNED.
2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. 2 YEARS OLD. DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE (AND PASSENGER'S SIDE, BUT NOT AS MUCH) STARTS THUMPING WHEN DRIVEN OVER 60 MPH, OR WILL INCONSISTENTLY START THUMPING RANDOMLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. FEELS VERY UNSAFE AS IT FEELS LIKE I AM DRIVING ON A FLAT TIRE. EACH TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY TO CHECK IF I ACTUALLY HAD A FLAT TIRE, BUT DID NOT. FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS WAS A FEW MONTHS AGO. I DISMISSED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS JUST A BUMPY HIGHWAY, AS THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED AFTER EXITING. FROM THERE ON, THE CAR DROVE SMOOTHLY UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION. I DID NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM AGAIN UNTIL A FEW MONTHS LATER. THE THUMPING STARTED HAPPENING RANDOMLY ON ROADS THAT I DROVE SMOOTH ON BEFORE, SO I KNEW IT WAS NOT A BAD ROAD ISSUE. THIS CAR NEEDS A RECALL AS IT IS ALREADY CAUSING ME LIFE THREATENING PROBLEMS ONLY AT 2 YEARS OLD. I AM ALSO HAVING ISSUES WITH BRAKES AND STEERING, BUT THEY APPEAR MINOR TO THE TIRE PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA EQUIPPED WITH HANKOOK OPTIMO H426 TIRES, SIZE: P195/65R/15 (NA). THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE MIDDLE TREAD ON THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS SEPARATED. THE TIRE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BELT SEPARATED FROM THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT NOTICED A HOLE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BAND WAS FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REVIEWED BY THEIR INVESTIGATORS. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
JULY 18, 2015 RETURNING FROM A 350 MILE TRIP TO MIAMI FROM ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. ON I-75N, EXPERIENCED A HARROWING DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE EXPLOSION IN ALLIGATOR ALLEY ABOUT 11:30AM. HYUNDAI ELANTRA HAS NO SPARE TIRE ON A LEASED CAR. TIRES ARE HANKOOK OMNIPRO H-426. MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FILED ABOUT THESE PARTICULAR TIRES AFTER RESEARCHING. MILEAGE IS LESS THAN 10K MILES AND CAR IS ONLY 2 YRS. OLD AND WAS LEASED BRAND NEW. HAVE 'HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE THAT ONLY TOWS TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP', PER CSR AFTER CALL TO REPORT,REQUIRING A TRIP BACK 30 MILES. AFTER EXPLAINING ORDEAL, TIRE EXPLOSION, REAR BUMPER TORN OFF, BACK LIGHT DAMAGE FROM TIRE BEING COMPLETELY RIPPED APART AND MAJOR BACKSIDE DAMAGE FROM SAID INCIDENT, DAVIE FLORIDA HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP DID CHANGE AND REPLACE TIRE THAT I HAD TO PURCHASE. THEY ASSURED US THAT CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. RECEIPT SHOWED MULTI-POINT INSPECTION PROVIDED AS WELL AS WHEEL BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT. BACK ON ROAD AT APPROX. 3:30PM, I-75N ALMOST TO SAME SPOT, (ALLIGATOR ALLEY) SECOND TIRE EXPLODES ON DRIVER SIDE FRONT MAKING CAR INOPERABLE; WAITED FOR 2ND TOW(8PM) ALL THE WAY HOME, ARRIVED ABOUT 12 MIDNIGHT. I AM CURRENTLY TERRIFIED OF DRIVING WITH OTHER TWO TIRES ON PASSENGER SIDE. WAITING TO HEAR FROM HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE ABOUT RESOLUTION,
THE REMOTE CONTROL ON ALL HYUNDAI'S WILL WITHIN A CERTAIN RANGE WILL CAUSE MY TRUNK TO OPEN. JUST THE TRUNK. I CAN LOCK MY CAR AND COME OUT AT THE MALL OR OUT OF MY HOME IN THE MORING AND FIND MY DOORS STILL LOCKED AND MY TRUNK OPENED! I DISCOVERED THE CULPRIT ONE DAY WHEN I WAS PARKED NEAR ANOTHER HYUNDAI AND THEY HIT THEIR REMOTE BEFORE I DID TO UNLOCK THEIR CAR, MY TRUNK FLEW OPEN!
THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICING. THE HYUNDAI SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT IT WAS RELATED TO THE BRAKES. WHEN I WAS READY TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND SAID THE BRAKE RELAY (WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED) CAUSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO SHORT AND NOW I HAVE TO GET THEM REPLACED AS WELL.
I HAVE A SET OF 4 PRIMEWELL VALERA TOURING II TIRES ON MY CARD, TWO OF WHICH FAILED DUE TO THE PRIOR RECALL ISSUE ON THE INSIDE LOWER SIDEWALK. MY TIRES ARE NOT LISTED AS PART OF THE RECALL, HOWEVER THE ISSUE IS IDENTICAL. I PURCHASED TWO NEW TIRES TODAY AS THE OTHERS FAILED WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON I95 IN DUVAL COUNTY, FL . I WILL PURCHASE TWO ADDITIONAL TIRES THIS WEEKEND AS I DO NOT WANT THE TIRES ON THE CAR TO FAIL AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, OR WORSE. WHAT IS GITI TIRE AND/OR CONTINENTAL TIRE GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS?
MY CAR HAS 43000 MILES AND THE CLUTCH HAS GONE OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME AND DRIVING DOWN AN COUNTRY HIGHWAY. I COULD NOT SHIFT GEARS AND ALMOST HAD A WRECK FROM THE CAR BEHIND ME.
SEIZED REAR BRAKE CALIPER. STARTED VEHICLE, BRAKES REMAINED ENGAGED AFTER RELEASING PARKING BRAKE. CALIPER SUDDENLY RELEASED AFTER APPLICATION OF ACCELERATOR.
WHEN I TRY TO CLOSE THE SUNROOF IT WILL NOT CLOSE. I HAVE TO TRY IT 3 TO 4 TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY CLOSES.
STEERING WHEEL HAS WHAT FEELS LIKE A NOTCH IN IT. IT SITS RIGHT WHERE YOU HAVE TO ADJUST THE STEERING AS YOU DRIVE. YOU HAVE TO CONSTANTLY COMPENSATE FOR THIS. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER THEY RESET SOMETHING BUT IT IS BACK AGAIN.
THE STEERING SYSTEM DEVELOPS A STICKY/DEAD ZONE THAT FEELS LIKE A NOTCH IN THE STEERING, RESULTING IN THE INABILITY TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY. IT REQUIRES A BIT OF FORCE TO MAKE MICRO CORRECTIONS OR TO GET PAST THAT HARD RESISTANCE. IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY.
ON JANUARY 18, 2016 I WAS EXISTING A PARKED HYUNDAI ELANTRA AND MY RIGHT THUMP GOT JAMMED IN THE DOOR OF THE DRIVER SIDE, I TRIED TO THE OPEN THE DOOR TO RELEASE MY FINGER IT WAS SHUT TIGHT AND DID NOT RELEASE. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES IT FINALLY OPENED CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY FINGER. I WASN'T AWARE THAT THIS MODEL HAS SUCH A PROBLEM, OTHERWISE WILL NOT HAVE RENTED IT FOR ENTERPRISE. THERE IS DOCUMENTATION OF THE PROBLEM FROM OTHER PEOPLE THAT THIS MODEL HAS A FAULTY DOOR BUT HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA REFUSES TO BEAR THE BLAME FOR THEIR MALFUNCTIONED CAR.
MOVING SLOWLY TO RIGHT LANE & AIRBAG DEPLOYED.
COMING OUT OF LEFT HAND TURN, AIR BAG DEPLOYED, CAUSING CUTS & CHAFFS ON BOTH ARMS AND CAUSING ME TO HIT A CONCRETE MEDIUM BLOWING OUT 3 TIRES.
THE ELANTRA THAT HAD 18000 MILES ON IT BURST INTO FLAMES AFTER SETTING OVERNIGHT. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE THE NIGHT BEFORE AND IT BURST INTO FLAMES IN MY DRIVEWAY AND COMPLETELY BURNED UP. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO COME OUT AND PUT THE CAR OUT. THEY INVESTIGATED THE FIRE AND FOUND THERE WAS NO FOUL PLAY. IT IS UNKNOWN TO US WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE BUT WE FEEL IT HAD TO BE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL.
I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHERE I WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 2-5MPH TURNING LEFT AND STRUCK DIRECTLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, THE VEHICLE THAT STRUCK ME WAS GOING ABOUT 40MPH AND WAS TRAVELING STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD. BOTH VEHICLES WERE TOWED AWAY FROM THE SCENE. NONE OF MY AIR BAGS, EVEN THE DRIVER DOOR AIR BAGS DESIGNED TO GO OFF IN THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT WERE DEPLOYED. I SMASHED THE LEFT SIDE OF MY HEAD INTO THE WINDOW OF MY CAR , A CUT ACROSS MY LEFT CLAVICLE, RECEIVED FACIAL BRUISING, A CONCUSSION, AND AM HAVING ONGOING MEDICAL ISSUES RELATED TO WHIPLASH AND THE DISPLACEMENT OF MY NECK SPINE AND SHOULDERS. I ALSO HAD A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE WHO IS ALSO HAVING ON GOING MEDICAL ISSUES. THE DRIVER DOOR ON THIS CAR WAS COMPLETELY CAVED IN AND WOULD NOT OPEN, AND THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE BACK DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE ALSO. THE AIRBAGS NOT BEING DEPLOYED WHEN THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS IN THIS CAR. OVER $7500 OF DAMAGES WERE MADE TO THIS 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING IN A RURAL AREA, THE HEADLAMPS FAILED TO OFFER ADEQUATE VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADLAMPS MET THE MANUFACTURER ALIGNMENT STANDARDS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 9,000. UDATED 08/02/16*LJ *CN
THIS IS OUR SECOND NEW HYUNDAI ELANTRA, MODEL YEAR 2015. AFTER ABOUT 16,000 MILES, WE NOTICED A "GLITCH" THAT SEEMED TO BE OCCURRING AT HIGHER, BUT MODEST SPEEDS (40-65 MPH). THE SMOOTH STEERING-WHEEL RANGE OF MOTION THAT WE ARE NORMALLY USED TO SEEMED TO CHANGE AT ROAD SPEEDS, EXHIBITING A POINT WHERE MINOR L-R STEERING-WHEEL ADJUSTMENTS WERE STIFF, ALMOST LIKE A "DETENT" IN A NORMAL SMOOTH RANGE OF MOTION. RESEARCHING THIS BEHAVIOR, I ALSO FOUND COMMENTS ON THE NET THAT WERE DESCRIBED AS "STICKY" STEERING WITH 2012 MODEL ELANTRAS...SEEMED LIKE A GOOD DESCRIPTIVE TERM. THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED BY AN WHEEL ALIGNMENT LAST WEEK, BUT A RE-VISIT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND DISCUSSION WITH THEIR SERVICE MANAGER, SUGGESTED THAT THERE MAY BE A STEERING ASSIST-PUMP SERVO ISSUE WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE SYMPTOMS. THERE WAS A DISCUSSION WITH THE SVC MANGER OF A REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT THAT ACTION WILL SOLVE THE MATTER.
WHEN VEHICLE IS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ABOVE 40 MPH THE STEERING STICKS AT CENTER POSITION. NEED TO OVER STEER TO GET VEHICLE BACK INTO A STRAIGHT LINE ON HIGHWAY. TOLD THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY BRUSHED IT OFF AS A NO DEFECT. THIS PROBLEM IS MORE THAN JUST A NUISANCE ESPECIALLY DRIVING ON SNOW AND ICE. DEFINITELY A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED ASAP. PROBLEM SEEMS TO GET WORSE AS THE ENGINE WARMS UP. POSSIBLE STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAILURE, UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.
HYUNDAI ELENTRA SUNROOF RECALL. MY SUNROOF EXPLODED AND HYUNDAI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE OR DO THE REPAIRS.
I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT AT THE INTERSECTION OF J MONEY AND PASS ROAD IN BILOXI, MS. ON 10/15/2015. I WAS TRAVELLING ON PASS ROAD APPROACHING A SIGNAL LIGHT, GOING ABOUT 30 MPH,I NOTICED IT CHANGED TO GREEN AND I ACCELERATED; A CAR PULLED IN FRONT OF MY CAR AND I HIT IT BROADSIDE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE GOING ABOUT 35-40 MPH. I WAS ALONE THE OTHER DRIVER HAD A FRIEND/WITNESS CLAIMED I RAN THE RED LITE..NO CITATIONS WERE GIVEN. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED....I WAS INJURED HAD A BLEEDING SUBDURAL HEMATOMA, HOSPITALIZED, HIT MY FACE LOOSENED AND LATER MY FRONTAL DENTAL BRIDGE BROKE OF REQUIRING IMPLANTS. I SUFFERED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO MY SHOULDER, STRAINED LIGAMENTS, DAMAGE TO MY ROTATOR CUP. UNDER GOING THERAPY. SUFFERING FROM MEMORY LOSS, IMBALANCED WALKING, HEADACHES. REPAIR SHOP OWNER MARVELLED THAT THE AIRBAGS HADN'T DEPLOYED BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF THE CAR; NOTED ON HIS INVOICE THAT THE AIRBAGS HAD NOT DEPLOYED. HYUNDAI DENIES THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS FAULTY AFTER THEY DOWNLOAD THE COMPUTER; AM ATTACHING THEIR LETTER OF DENIAL, ALONG WITH PICTURES SHOWING DAMAGE TO THE CAR...UPDATED 03/22/16 *BF *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH OR LESS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED OFTEN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE RPMS IDLED HIGH AND LOW AT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
I WAS DRIVING ON A ROAD AT 45 MPH AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SWERVED SO I STARTED TO SWERVE AS WELL ASSUMING THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. HE THEN JAMMED ON HIS BREAKS IN THE SWERVE AND SO DID I BUT I ENDED UP HITTING THE BACK OF THE OTHER CAR. HE HAD A NEWER HYUNDAI SONATA AND I HAD A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA SE. I THINK THE ROAD WAS SLICK AS WELL AS WE HAD RECENTLY HAD A SNOWSTORM THAT ENDED THE DAY BEFORE WITH ABOUT A FOOT OF SNOW. THE DAMAGE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS REAR BUMPER DAMAGE ON THE LEFT SIDE. MY DAMAGE WAS MOSTLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE BUMPER OF MY CAR TO THE MIDDLE OF MY CAR. THE RADIATOR WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE ENGINE. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT ALL AND MY CHEST HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS GOING WEST BOUND ON A A TWO-LANE ROAD. AFTERWARDS MY CAR OBVIOUSLY WOULD NOT ENGAGE TO DRIVE TO TRY AND GET IT OUT OF THE ROAD WAY. I HAD SOME WHIPLASH AND SOME DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT CHEEK FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL INTACT AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I SHOWED A PICTURE TO THE ER AND THEY WERE SHOCKED THAT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THE OFFICER ON THE SCENE WAS EQUALLY DISTURBED THAT THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AS WELL. I WILL ATTACH A PICTURE OF THE FRONT END OF MY CAR.
THE CAR WAS ON HIGHWAY AND AS I WAS GETTING OFF THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND IN FACT AS I TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT CRASHED,
THE TIRE ON THE BACK DRIVER SIDE EXPLODED ON THE HIGHWAY WITH A 70MPH SPEED LIMIT. A WEEK AND HALF AFTER THAT TIRE WAS REPLACED THE FRONT TIRE IN THE FRONT SIDE OF THE DRIVER HAD ITS TREAD SEPARATING FROM THE CASING. THIS COULD HAVE HAD A BLOWOUT AND POTENTIALLY BEEN HARMING.
I BEGAN MY LEASE ON MY ELANTRA IN SEPT OF 2014. AT MY YEAR ANNIVERSARY I HAD IT SERVICED BY THE DEALER OF THE LEASE AND WAS GIVEN A CLEAN BILL OF CAR HEALTH. HOWEVER, ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE CAR HAD, AS I CALLED IT, "A MIND OF ITS OWN" MEANING THAT WHILE I WAS DRIVING, USUALLY SOMEWHERE AROUND 40-55 MPH WITHOUT ME PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. IT WOULD STOP AS SOON AS I COMPLETELY LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT HAPPENED ENOUGH TO BE CONSIDERED STRANGE. I WAS PLANNING TO ASK THE DEALER ABOUT IT AT MY NEXT OIL CHANGE. NOT NECESSARY NOW! SUNDAY AFTERNOON 10/18/15, I WENT TO START THE CAR AND IT SPUTTERED AND STALLED OUT. I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AGAIN AND IT REPEATED. AFTER THE 3RD TIME AND GIVING IT SOME GAS THE CAR STARTED AND RAN OK. I HAD 3 STOPS THAT I MADE, EACH TIME THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON WITH NO ISSUE. I RETURNED HOME AND NOT EVEN 5 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF, THERE WERE FLAMES SHOOTING OUT BETWEEN THE HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. I HIT THE FIRE EMERGENCY ON MY HOUSE ALARM SYSTEM TO SIGNAL FOR THE FIRE DEPT AND THEN RAN OUTSIDE WITH MY HUSBAND AND 2 FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, EMPTYING ONE AND HAVING ZERO EFFECT ON THE FIRE. MY HUSBAND THEN TURNED THE HOSE ON AND WAS TRYING TO CONTAIN THE FIRE WITH THE HOSE WATER. IN THE 10 MINUTES IT TOOK FOR THE FIRE DEPT TO GET THERE, THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS LITERALLY A SHELL OF REMAINING METAL AND DRIPPING MELTED PLASTIC. THE ENTIRE WINDSHEILD EXPLODED FROM THE HEAT OF THE FIRE AND WAS INSIDE THE CAR. INSURANCE INSPECTOR SAYS THE SOURCE CAME FROM BEHIND THE BATTERY - WHICH HE SAID WAS EITHER THE ELECTRIC OR COMPUTER PANEL. EITHER WAY.. IT WAS A SCARY SITUATION. 10 MINUTES IS NOT A VERY LONG TIME TO HAVE THE ENTIRE FRONT END DISINTEGRATE FROM FIRE
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED CAUSING MAJOR INJURIES TO THE DRIVER. DRIVER SIDE AND STEERING WHEEL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. RIGHT SIDE OF THE DRIVERS BODY (PASSENGER SIDE) WAS SEVERELY INJURED CAUSING BROKEN RIBS A PUNCTURED LUNG AND PUNCTURED HEART LEFT SIDE INJURY TO HEAD FROM IMPACT.
I REAR ENDED SOMEONE GOING 35 MILES AN HOUR IN CITY. I HADN'T NOTICED TRAFFIC AHEAD WAS STOPPED AND HAD NO TIME TO REACT. .THE IMPACT WAS SO SEVERE THAT CHEST HIT STEERING WHEEL AND MY HEAD HIT THE DASH. AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED.MY IN TIRE FRONT END CRUMBLED CAUSING THE RADIATOR DAMAGE AND THE FRAME OF CAR TO BE BENT ALONG WITH ME COMING IN CONTACT WITH STEERING WHEEL. THANK GO FOR SEAT BELT OR I MIGHT HAVE HIT WINDSHIELD.SINCE NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED I HAVE BROKEN RIB AND 2 FRACTURES IN MY FACE. .

ON THE EVENING OF 4/7/2015 I RENTED A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA FROM ENTERPRISE. THE NEXT EVENING, 4/8/2015 AT ABOUT 10:30PM, I WAS DRIVING OUT OF THE RV PARK WHERE WE WERE STAYING. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 15 MPH AND HAD JUST DRIVEN OVER A SMALL BRIDGE THAT HAD A VERY SLIGHT BUMP AT THE END BEFORE THE ROAD CURVED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT. AS I WENT OVER THE BUMP THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I FOUND MYSELF HEADING STRAIGHT INTO THE WOODEN WALL ALONG THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. I COULD NOT GET THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN TO THE LEFT, AWAY FROM THE WALL, AND CRASHED THROUGH IT. LUCKILY, BECAUSE I WAS GOING SO SLOW, I DID NOT WIND UP GOING INTO THE CONCRETE AND STEEL RETAINER WALL BEHIND THE WOODEN WALL, AND NO ONE WAS HURT. THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND THE WOODEN WALL, HOWEVER, WERE BADLY DAMAGED. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ALSO HAD PROBLEMS GETTING THE STEERING TO RESPOND WHEN HE WAS BACKING THE CAR OUT OF THE WALL. IT FINALLY UNLOCKED AFTER HE KEPT AT IT FOR A FEW MINUTES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHEN DRIVING OVER AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE SWAYED BACK AND FORTH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100. UPDATED 5/12/15*CN
THE CAR SWAYS BACK AND FORTH WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TIRES AND ALIGNMENT, WERE CHECKED AND EVERYTHING IS GOOD. CAN NOT STAY IN A STRAIGHT LINE FOR VERY LONG. SWITCHED FROM COMFORT, SPORT, NORMAL AND NO DIFFERENCE. IF THERE IS LITTLE WIND OUT THE CAR GETS EVEN WORSE AND DOES NOT STAY STRAIGHT. NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP CAN EXPLAIN AND SEEMS THEY DON'T CARE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA ON NOVEMBER 26TH, 2014. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW WHEN I PURCHASED IT. ON DECEMBER 23RD I NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF AFTER HAVING PARKED AND REMOVED THE KEY. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF, BUT I HAD A TRIP SCHEDULED TO VISIT FAMILY DURING THE HOLIDAYS. I WAS FORCED TO LEAVE THE CAR AT MY HOUSE IN ITS PRESENT STATE. WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION ON DECEMBER 24TH I CALLED HYUNDAI (LITHIA SPRINGS) TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE ISSUES AND TO ASK THEM HOW THEY WANTED TO HANDLE THIS ISSUE. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN ON JANUARY 3RD. WHEN I RETURNED TO GEORGIA I BROUGHT THE CAR TO HYUNDAI. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE I COULD SMELL A STRONG ODOR REMINISCENT OF SPOILED MILK. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY EXAMINED THE CAR AND INITIALLY TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE BRAKE CLUTCH NOT DEPRESSING PROPERLY. AFTER THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THIS PART HE RETURNED TO TELL METHAT HE WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE AND THAT HE SUSPECTED IT TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. HE REQUESTED THAT I LEAVE THE CAR WITH HIM SO THAT IT COULD BE WORKED ON AND PLACED ME IN A LOANER VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A CALL TODAY (JANUARY 6TH, 2015) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE HAD BEEN ISOLATED AND THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND WATER HAD CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES I WAS HAVING. [XXX]. TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REMOVED, CARPET REMOVED, DRIED, AND RESEALED. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERN WITH THIS AND LET HIM KNOW THAT I WANTED THE CAR REPLACED IMMEDIATELY, TO WHICH HE DID NOT REPLY. HE TOLD ME THAT HYUNDAI MANUFACTURING WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT REPLACE MY BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND THAT ALL HE COULD DO WAS TRY TO FIX THE ISSUES. I AM TRULY UNHAPPY AND WANT MY MONEY BACK OR A BRAND NEW CAR. I HAVEN'T EVEN DRIVEN THIS CAR 1,000 MILES AND NOT ONLY AM I WITHOUT A CAR. ▸ Valve and piston damage — timing chain/belt failure causes immediate catastrophic engine damage at any speed
▸ Engine stalling at speed — fuel delivery failure can cause sudden loss of power in traffic or on highways
▸ Loss of brake assist and ABS in emergency — can significantly extend stopping distances
The blue line shows 256 total NHTSA complaints filed over 13 years, with the worst year being 2023 (49 complaints, including 4 crash reports).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 22/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
Notably, despite 256 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.
Red dots on the amber line flag 8 years (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
Nu (2.0L) and Gamma (1.6L) GDI engines share similar connecting rod bearing failure modes as the Theta II engine. Hyundai and Kia extended warranty coverage following additional NHTSA investigations.
Coverage eligibility depends on your VIN, original sale date, and current mileage. Always verify with an authorized dealer or manufacturer customer service — programs may have been updated since this database was compiled.
Estimated 5-year cost of ownership: $53,139 (~$886/mo). Repair risk buffer is standard due to vehicle risk profile.
5% baseline recall probability — no strong indicators of an imminent recall.
Maintenance intervals vary significantly by make, model, year, engine, and driving conditions. Always follow the manufacturer's official schedule — not generic industry estimates.
Tip: Request the seller's service records and compare against the manufacturer schedule. Missing intervals are a negotiation point.
