The seat belts are much slower to retract than with other cars, including our 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander we also own. My wife has had the front passenger seat belt get stuck in the door at least 3 times (likely more) which has required us to make multiple stops at the dealership to fix it. This is certainly a safety risk since the door remains partially open this certainly is something that should be recalled and fixed. Most recent day was today 5/7/26 but has happened many times.

Automatic Emergency Breaking sometimes occurs while driving in rainy weather even when there are no obstructions in the front of the vehicle. This causes spinouts and exccessive wear and tear on break pads and rotors. Also, many shops and dealerships are having issues with putting 2022 year model outlanders in "maintenance mode" to be able to change rear ebs brakes. Due to this you cannot drive your vehicle and/or rish not having proper break functions. THIS IS URGENT!!!

After an afternoon driving in the rain most of the previous day my vehicle started to produce a clunking noise from the rear and front of the vehicle. I was able to stop at my mechanic near by and have them check the problem. My mechanic was able to diagnose the issue as a rear end differential coupler issue and said a bulletin had been posted about the issue. He was unable to work on the problem due to the specific equipment needed for the vehicle. I was able to call the closest dealership where they confirmed this was an issue they have been seeing more of this problem lately. So much so they had stocked that part and run out of that part. As I turned out into traffic I could have easily caused someone to rear end my vehicle due to the lack of engagement from the drive-train. Had I been on a busy road this would have caused an accident. The problem was reproduced and confirmed by my local mechanic in Shepherd, Michigan at 1st Street Auto. The vehicle is currently located at a Showcase Mitsubishi in Bay City, Michigan scheduled for repair on Tuesday September 9th where the part will be replaced. No warning lamps, messages were displayed. No other symptoms occurred before this incident.

While driving down the highway at 70 mph, my 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SEL suddenly shut off without warning, causing the entire dashboard and instrument cluster to go dark. In a matter of seconds, the vehicle unexpectedly braked on its own, decelerating from 70 to 0 mph in an extremely short distance. This abrupt stop nearly caused an 18-wheeler behind me to rear-end my vehicle. Thankfully, the truck driver was able to swerve just in time, narrowly avoiding a catastrophic collision. The situation could have resulted in severe injuries or fatalities. During the incident, all power to the vehicle was lost. The brakes became unresponsive and impossible to press, and the steering became extremely difficult to control, making it nearly impossible to maneuver the vehicle safely. This is the fifth time my vehicle has experienced this issue, with the past three instances almost ending in serious accidents due to the car’s complete failure to respond. After a few seconds of total power loss, the vehicle inexplicably starts back up on its own and operates as if nothing had happened. Despite this recurring and life-threatening malfunction, the dealership has been unable to identify or fix the problem after four repair attempts. Each time, they’ve tried different fixes: 1. Initially, a software update was performed. 2. Next, the ADAS controller was replaced. 3. Then, the body computer was swapped out. 4. Now, they are attempting to replace a power distribution system. Even after these numerous interventions, the problem persists, and the dealership has no clear understanding of the underlying cause. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander that I financed through your bank. Since purchasing the vehicle brand new in 2022, I have encountered numerous issues that have caused significant inconvenience and concern for my safety. In the past two years, my vehicle has experienced multiple problems, including: 1.Randomly Shutting Off: Last year, my car began randomly shutting off. The dealership attributed this to sensor issues and claimed it was due to me pumping gas while the car was on. Despite this explanation, the problem persisted, and the mechanic only reset the computer system without fixing the underlying issue. 2.Fuel Pump Issues: Recently, on August 11, 2024, my car stopped working for several hours while I was with my daughter. I replaced the battery at a cost of $300, but the problem recurred the next day in traffic. After extensive delays and towing, the dealership identified a fuel pump issue, which is covered under the powertrain warranty but not the connecting parts, costing $1500 each. 3.Safety Recalls: I discovered that the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander has several recalls related to faulty fuel pump wiring. Although I was initially told my model was not affected, the dealership later confirmed the fuel pump issue. Additionally, the hood of my vehicle was not welded correctly, causing it to flutter and posing a safety hazard. Despite bringing my car to the dealership last year under the original warranty, no effective repairs were made. I have been without a reliable vehicle and have faced significant inconvenience and safety concerns. Given these ongoing issues and the lack of resolution, I am requesting a voluntary repossession of the vehicle. I believe this is the only viable option given the circumstances.

The issue with the car involves a problem with the steering gear box. The grease between the rack and support yoke seat has thinned, leading to increased friction during steering. This causes the support yoke to drag along with the motion of the rack, resulting in contact with the rack housing. As a result, a clunk sound and vibration are felt when turning the steering wheel, especially after the car has been stationary for a while. This issue is causing a loss of power and control while driving, making the vehicle unsafe. The recommended fix involves replacing the steering gear box assembly and recalibrating the steering system. The service report ID is: TSB-24-37-001

Persistent issue where the vehicle will loose all power to brakes, engine, instrument cluster and infotainment. This issue has almost caused 2 crashes out of the 3 occasions in which it has occurred. When the issue happens all power is lost as if the car were rolling in neutral while off, no indication of what is wrong or anything of the sort. It happened on the highway going about 65 mph, was able to steer (without power steering support) into the emergency lane as the car dramatically dropped speed. The brakes were also not being supported by the booster so it was extremely difficult to push the pedal, thankfully it was on a bit of an uphill. Put the car manually into park after it stopped, and by itself the car restarted, although some of the cluster components and infotainment components were very slow to restart. The next time this happened was in slow traffic, once again the car shut off with no warning of any kind. Once I managed to get the brake pedal pushed far enough for the brakes to engage, I managed to stop the car within a foot or so of the person in front of me. Once again, I put the car in park and it was able to restart on its own. Both times it has been to the dealer, Don Herring of Plano, and as helpful as the service advisor is, there is still no solution in sight as they keep changing electrical components left and right. I am worried about the car becoming a rolling ball of metal that I cannot stop one day. I hope Mitsubishi figures this problem out, otherwise its a fatality waiting to happen.

After 3 days Mitsubishi called me and told by according pictures it was a rock that hit my glass and broken and they dont have nothing to do. Don Herring Dealer in Texas and Sport Mitsubishi in Orlando both of them assume that dont have any real evidence that was a rock because the glass exploded direction it was to up - showing that happened from inside to outside. I went to Safelite Glass company too and they told the same. As it is tempered glass must be broken in small pieces completely or total fallen inside the car. The hood has fluttered since I bought the car on 7/29/21. I brought the issue to the dealership's attention, but they denied hearing any other complaints. While I was waiting at the dealership for an oil change, I was talking to other outlander owners, and they expressed the same concern. I also have an issue with the front Collison senor. Since day one, the sensor will disengage in direct sunlight, fog, and rain, making the feature useless. Once again, when brought up to the dealership, I was informed the case this was a one-off and they had not heard or seen any issues reported to Mitsubishi. And as of today, it appears my alternator has gone out.

Since May 2023, I've been to two different dealerships with the same issue. It started with a whistling sound form air vents, buring smell, increased has consumption, loss of power going up hill, gas smell inside cabin, no air, loud noise from right side of car under hood, and engine malfunction warning. Finally, 12/12/23 the car, without warning, instantly stalled, shut-off in traffic. Several vehicles behind me had to swerve to avoid rear end collision at it was it happened in front of a school with heavy traffic! The car would not restart and had to be towed to dealership. I contacted Mitsubishi corporate office in Aug/Sept, and was assigned Bernedette, who, constantly confused and incoherent, dismissed my complaints as dealerships wouldn't fix bc Mitsubishi wouldn't reimburse. She stated if there was no code, the car could NOT be fixed! In total, both dealerships have had my car for 30 days or more. Currently, Edwards Mitsubishi, has had my car since 12/11 as back ordered part was hard to obtain. I want to go to mediation for Lemon Law in IA, as this car poses a serious threat to myself and other drivers. Mitsubishi is negligent and duplicitous by issuing erroneous and loose guidelines regarding repairs/recalls when vehicles owners present with problems known to Mitsubishi, especially 2022 Outlanders having fuel pump issues. I still can not get any assistance on the shaking hood!!!!

I have a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander that I purchased July 26, 2023, from Ciocca Subaru of Philadelphia with a 100,000 mile/24-Month Dealership Warranty, an Extended Warranty in addition to the Manufacturer's Warranty, Ciocca Dealership Promise Warranty, Tire Warranty , Service, and Collision Care Program Warranties. The control arm broke as I was coasting in the parking lot of the supermarket on Wednesday, November 22nd, right before Thanksgiving. I was told on Friday by the Ciocca Subaru Dealer of purchase that the repairs had to be completed at a Mitsubishi Dealer, and told that it would not be covered in any of the warranties. Previous Mitsubishi Outlander's have had faulty/recalled control arms also. The vehicle was towed to Montgomeryville Mitsubishi at 1011 Bethlehem Pike, Montgomeryville, PA18936. To date, no one has looked at or egun repair and they refuse to provide a loaner vehicle. In the 4 months that I have had the vehicle, it seems that the fuel system is faulty also. I purchased a brand new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander on March 3rd 2022, and 25k miles in I am experiencing rear braking issues. I took my Outlander in to the local dealership at 247 El Cajon, CA 92020 on 9/6/22 for an inspection, because my vehicle was making very loud screeching noise every time the vehicle went into reverse (without even touching on the brakes). Initially I thought something was wrong with the wheels, because the noise was happening without having to press on the brakes. Upon inspection, I was told that my rear brakes were at 2mm and needed to be replaced, along with resurfaced rotors. My front brakes are good, but my rear brakes have worn down, and causing a screeching noise. According to the service manager at the dealership, the noise is not exactly the brakes itself, it is a sensor pin that begins to scratch along the rotors once the brake pads start to ware down and needing to be replaced. This vehicle has never been driven out of state! This vehicle is driven in town taking my kids to and from school, and for pleasure and errands. I am not a heavy driver or braker. There is absolutely no reason why a brand new vehicle is already needing rear brakes at only 25k miles. I have done some research both online and by calling around to a few different Mitsubishi dealerships, and I spoke to Joseph in the service department at Victorville Mitsubishi; I told him my issue, he asked how many miles I had and he quote on quote told me, "You are one of the lucky ones, because customers have been coming in at 15k miles needing to replace their rear brakes." This is pure insanity, 15k-25k rear brakes need replacing? This is NOT normal wear and tear; this is absolutely a manufacturer defect that needs serious attention and a recall.

This letter is about a recent use car purchase, the car is a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. I purchase the car on 19 April 2023 at Mitsubishi Dealer located in Commerce California, I paid cash. The sale went OK until I ask for a second key-fob as my wife will be the second driver. I was told they didn't have a second key-fob and one would not be supplied because the vehicle is sold as is. I was not pleased about this as I paid more than $38609.00 cash for the vehicle. I pushed back, the dealer would not relent. I purchased a key-fob at Mitsubishi Redondo Beach California, I was told that the key-fob would have to be paired to the vehicle and that would be billable. I was really angry when told this, but had it be done anyway. My feeling was I paid a lot of money cash and I was being treated like my money didn't mean anything now that they have it. I spend four hours at Mitsubishi Redondo, I was told that that could not pair the key-fob because they didn't have the updated software. I was told to go back to Mitsubishi Commerce and have it done there. I return Mitsubishi Dealer located in Commerce California to have the key-fob paired. I spent more than four hours waiting for the repair. I was told that the newly purchase key-fob was defective, and to return the original dealer for replacement. I went back to Mitsubishi Redondo Beach California for replacement key. I was told that it would take about a week. I waited two weeks and never got a response, I called the dealer to get an update, I was told the key had arrived. I asked why I was not informed, I got a runaround about being busy. This the typical response I got when trying to communicate with Mitsubishi. They started the repair three hour later I was told that it couldn't be done because they didn't have the latest software. I ask when would it be available, I was told it could be tomorrow or the next day or next week. They said they would keep me updated. They never call with an update.

I am only told that I am on a waiting list for a repair, and that many people are complaining of this problem. Where I live in Yuma Arizona, the summers get to 114°, and while this may exacerbate the issue it is not the cause and the smell of raw gas can be noted Even in the winter months. I purchased this vehicle in March, 2022. As of January 23, 2023, this vehicle has 15,700 miles. I first noticed a problem approximately four months ago. Whenever I go over a dirt road, it feels like the back end of my vehicle is flailing out of control, as if there is nothing to hold it to the road. Because I very rarely travel a dirt road, I just figured this is how this vehicle handles, and I will just need to get used to it. Then I noticed when I would hit certain bumps or uneven spots in the road, I would rock back and forth. Again, just figured it was something I would have to get used to. I had already noticed that it hydroplaned worse than any vehicle I had ever driven, but blamed it on the type of tire which it had, and became hyper aware of any water on the roads. Even the tiniest puddle. Then winter arrived!!!! I am absolutely terrified of this vehicle on any kind of snow covered road, even if the road is barely dusted with snow. I constantly feel like I am going out of control. Whenever I have to cross a bridge in freezing weather, it literally feels as if I am actually sliding on ice the entire way across, no matter how short the bridge is. Driving in snow almost feels like you are trying to drive with a flat tire. You can not drive this car over 40mph on any road condition other than dry. In every instance I have mentioned, I feel like I have control over the steering and front tires, but nothing at all behind the front seats. Just recently, on January 22,2022, I noticed my one back tire is completely bald, and the other rear tire is not much better. I had never really looked at the tires, because, why would I on a nine months old vehicle with 15,000 miles?? I immediately, the next day took it to my Mitsubishi dealer. We were there for an hour and a half. They could find nothing. I was shocked when I looked closer at my paper work after getting home. It stated right on there that excessive wear on the rr tire has been a common issue on these vehicles.

It had to be drug onto a wrecker truck because everything was locked up. It was this incident that I learned about the recall. We had no vehicle for 4 days but the problem was “fixed”. Then a month later I was driving on the interstate and the vehicle just stopped driving again! It again completely locked up and nothing worked and had to be drug onto a wrecker. I went another few days with no vehicle and the dealership said they could not find anything. They suggested that I not let the gas go below 100 miles to empty that they thought the angle of the fuel line or something might be the issue. It’s scary driving knowing it could stop at any moment with no warning. I live in Louisiana and I drive the causeway often. It’s the longest bridge over a body of water in the world. No shoulders, no way off. Just 24 miles over a lake. I’m scared to death every time I get on it. And after the last incident my HUD and some other electrical things are no longer working. I have an appointment next week to have those things looked at.

Somewhere around 9K or 10K miles, the car would wildly react to road imperfections, especially the irregularities at bridges that are not in perfect alignment with the road. When I had the car to the dealer with about 12K miles to have the hood replaced due to excessive flutter (per a TSB vs. a recall), I reported the issue. The dealer found a leaking rear shock absorber. They ordered a new one (part 4162A504) but it was on backorder. I determined that the warehouse was doing a "controlled release" of these shock absorbers because so many are bad. One online seller told me at least 3,000 other people had this issue. I belong to several Mitsubishi Outlander groups on Facebook and see many other owners asking why their cars go all over the place when hitting bumps in the road - - they too are having issues with shock absorbers although some also report front strut issues (same parts supplier?). There is no way shock absorbers should totally fail at such low mileage, and when they do, the vehicles are truly unsafe to drive. The date under "additional details" is the date of the work order to fix the issue - but it began several months earlier.

The hood of the vehicle vibrates and lifts while driving, especially at higher speeds, causing alarm to driver and passengers. The dealership did not disclose the known issue when we purchased and was subsequently contacted within days of purchasing regarding the problem. We presented personally and was told rather than replacing the latch and seals like some dealers, our entire hood would be replaced as the manufacturer suggested. It took multiple unanswered calls to ascertain the status so the vehicle could be dropped off, ultimately we had to visit in-person to sort it out due to short staffing. After having the vehicle for 19 days to replace the hood, the new one has been painted twice as a result of defects in workmanship (paint) and is still experiencing the vibration and lift while driving. The dealership has requested we return the vehicle for further evaluation of the new hood’s issues. This is visible and upsetting from a driver or passenger viewpoint. My first impression was that the hood was made of too thin metal and that certain wind dynamics at highway speeds causes this shocking flexing and shaking. This was a brand new vehicle with under 100 miles on it. The next day I returned the vehicle to the dealer and they returned my down payment check that I had given then two days earlier, thus cancelling the deal. It seems they had heard of this issue before.

The vehicles hood shakes and flutters when traveling above approximately 45mph and gets worse the faster vehicle travels. I fear this is causing excess wear on the hood latch and the hood will eventually fly up causing driver to be unable to see. Been like this since new. Has been back go dealership twice with no fix.

When this vechile reaches speed over 45 miles per hour..the front hood .flutters and shakes as if it’s going to fly open blocking the driver from seeing the road..also over time the vibration will crack the latch.making it a deadly dangerous situation..thanks

Bought this New 2022 Outlander 10/01/2021, but on 11/07/2021, the car's software suddenly disabled the Adaptive Cruise Control function and Forwad Collsion Warning when i driving on the highway. I tried to drive to a safe place, stop the car and restart it, and the warnings disappeared. But after driving for a few dozen miles, the warning suddenly reappeared. Then the following function and collision prevention function are all disabled, if the front vehicles suddenly brakes and slows down on the highway, my car will probably crash directly into it. I will go to the car store today to ask the problem and hope to get a reply. For the time being, I have not produced an accident, but the car software keeps failing, which is scary. This car's warning lights keep popping up every few dozen miles of driving with the radar safety system these fail, restarting and then getting better, then getting same problem over and over again. And if there is a car in front, the radar does not detect the vehicle in front, the car system or continue to drive, and will not slow down with the car in front.

Good morning. Mitsubishi attempted fix at my hood flutter recall in July 2021 and problem still active. Hood bounces and flutters and is very distracting. There is no permanent fix at this time. Also, the forward collision included in the MiPilot is not active. When looking at the manual, the image of a “car” appears when system is engaged. For my vehicle, this is not showing as active. Again, no fix or remedy from dealer and Mitsubishi tech support. Very unsettling as this would really assist with distracted driving while the hood is bouncing around.

CAR ENGINE HOOD SHAKES VIOLENTLY AT SPEEDS HIGHER THAN 45 MILES PER HOUR. THE HIGHER THE SPEEND THE MORE IT SHAKES. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING OF SAME ISSUE AND HAVE TAKEN OUTLANDER IN FOR SERVICE WITHOUT FAVORORABLE RESULTS. ISSUE STILL PERSISTS. I WILL TAKE MY OUTLANDER FOR SERVICE AS SOON AS I AM ABLE.

Hood has a flutter when reaching certain speeds and hitting bumps.

At higher highway speeds the hood gets air under it, causing the hood to “flutter” or “bounce”. At higher speeds it looks like the hood could almost fly up. I feel very unsafe driving with this, i’ve been told it can’t make my hood fly up, but i worry about it everytime i drive.

The hood shakes during operation of the vehicle. It seems to be latched but it seems like it is going to open at anytime driving at higher speeds.

ODI #11435338FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The vehicle shows a check engine light after refueling. After some troubleshooting, I found that the issue is the cap-less fuel fill system. After some time, the check engine goes away. Or in some cases never does. This creates an issue because the vehicle does not remote start due to the present check engine light.

My 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander hood vibrates during drives. The vibration starts when the car is moving around 35 - 40 mph or more. I confirmed that it was properly closed, but it concerns me because this repetitive movement may loosen the hood locking system during any future drive. This problem may cause a potentially fatal accident.

I have taken my SUV for to updates in regaurds to repairing the hood that shakes and bounces. It moves up and down when going down the road fast or slow. Its not only the wind that causes this it is also bumps in the road. It oftem seams the hood will fly up and can be pretty scarry. I fewel something needs to be done to help support the hood and make it samefer. If it keeps moving metal fatigue could occure and cause a safety issue that could lead to a death.

At 45mph and above the hood flutters violently.
ODI #11427249STRUCTURE
The front hood is structurally weak, causing flexing, bouncing, and fluttering. When driving over 55 mph, you feel as though the hood is going to open up while driving. It is a very unsettling and unsafe feeling when driving on the highway. You feel as though the hood is going to open up and smash against the windshield. When driving on surface streets where there are bumps in the road, the hood moves a lot. The technical bulletin by Mitsubishi Motors: TSB-21-42A-001 references a hood latch and bumper height adjustment to alleviate the hood fluttering. In reality, the complete hood assembly is unstable. The hood needs to have internal bracing, as well as under hood cross member strength and adhesion, and/or thicker gauge metal for the hood's strength. I was driving on the freeway from the dealership and noticed this. I went back to the dealership to inquire about returning the vehicle. I was informed of my rights, that they had expired after the contract and financing went through and I drove it off the sales lot. Since I am unable to return this vehicle due to this safety issue, I want to make a formal request for a solution. A flimsy hood does not seem reasonable for insurance obligation purposes. What could possibly happen after a while is metal stress fatigue cracking due to movement. A serious injury could occur if the hood was to break loose. The weather strip seal cushion gasket does not alleviate the flutter. I included photos to show where the flex occurs.

I just bought a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander and I noticed while driving on the highway around 60 to 70 MPH the hood is fluttering. I checked the hood just to make sure it was not unlatched and it was secured but the hood continues to flutter looking like it wants to open during highway driving.
