Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.

The vehicle has suffered a total failure of the audio output system/amplifier. While the central infotainment screen visually illuminates and functions correctly, there is zero audio output across all speakers and inputs. The failed component is currently in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. Because there is no audio output, all voice-activated, hands-free Bluetooth calling and audible turn-by-turn GPS navigation cues are non-functional. Operating the vehicle safely over long distances or in traffic is compromised because utilizing navigation now forces the driver to physically look away from the road to read visual maps on the screen, creating an immediate, severe driver distraction that puts my family and other motorists at risk. The total audio failure was officially diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized Kia dealership service center. The dealership verified that the system outputs zero sound and stated that the entire multimedia/audio control assembly requires a complete replacement. The component has been inspected and diagnosed directly by authorized Kia dealership service technicians, and an official corporate case has been opened with Kia America for a goodwill escalation. There were no warning lamps, error messages, or preliminary symptoms prior to the incident. The audio output system failed suddenly and completely without warning, while the visual dashboard screen remained active.
I belive the manual of the Graco Extend2fit 3-in-1 Trueshield and possibly other Extend2fit models is in need of revision-specifically in the section that instructs how to measure for one inch of appropriate head clearance within the shell. I will attach two photos. One photo is a graphic from the manual, the other is a photo of my carseat, on which I drew two lines, one blue and one red. The graphic in the manual seems to show that one should measure for one inch of head clearance starting from the blue line I drew onto my photo. If you compare the fabric stitching in the graphic to the fabric stitching in the photo and identify the line relative to the stitching, the part you measure from appears to match the blue line I drew in my photo. I have always measured from the blue line I drew and I've owned the seat for 6 years. But according to Graco, I have been measuring wrong all this time, which means my child has been unsafe all this time. After talking with CPSTs at Graco, they are insisting that you are supposed to measure from the red line I drew onto my photo. This doesn't make sense because: 1.) That does not match the graphic provided in the manual. 2.) The red line's only physical marker is the fabric cover. The cover can shift, as mine does, exposing more of the headrest adjustment handle underneath, which would alter the measurement point since, according to Graco, the only point of reference is apparently the fabric cover. This will lead to inaccurate measurements everywhere. Fabric covers are not consistent reference points. I have spoken with many respected CPSTs outside of Graco, and none of them know for sure which line to measure from, the red or the blue line I drew. Many are convinced it is the blue line, as I am. If CPSTs are confused, I can guarantee most people are confused. Which means many people are measuring from the blue line, and according to Graco, that is incorrect. Incorrect fits lead to unsafe children, so this needs to be addressed.

The vehicle experiences a recurring mechanical failure where the electronic AWD coupling/rear axle locks up and binds when accelerating through turns. This creates an immediate safety hazard by altering steering dynamics and causing vehicle hesitation or severe wheel hop in intersection turns. A certified Kia dealership has already fully replaced the entire factory AWD Coupling assembly twice: first under the original warranty on July 16, 2024 at 48,054 miles, and again under warranty on May 2, 2025 at 59,350 miles. Following a preliminary check-in for the same symptom on April 9, 2025, this identical component failure has now recurred for a third time at approximately 77,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the side view mirror's blind-spot system generated phantom alerts while there was no object nearby. Additionally, the headlights inadvertently fluctuated between dim (low beam) and extremely bright (high beam) settings. The instrument cluster displayed that the vehicle unintendedly switched to Smart Drive Mode but failed to display the transmission gears. The trunk button intermittently failed to operate as needed. The back over prevention sensing system failed to alert that there was an object behind the vehicle while reversing. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure, but twenty-six history trouble codes were retrieved, indicating the power steering, ABS, air bags, blind spot collision, front radar, and Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) malfunctions. The contact stated that prior to the failure, a Voluntary Emissions Service Campaign: SC357 Engine Control Unit (ECU) was performed on the vehicle; however, the dealer informed the contact that the failure was not related. The dealer recalibrated the front radar, but the failure recurred at night while driving. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.
Sunroof exploded while driving in the 540 expressway.
While attempting to operate the sunroof on my Kia Telluride, the sunroof mechanism failed and became completely stuck in the open position. The sunroof will not close, bypass, or reset, leaving the cabin fully exposed. Upon inspection, it appears the internal mechanism arms or wind deflector components have failed/broken, which prevents the glass from sliding forward back into its sealed, closed position.

The vehicle began showing serious safety related symptoms before the engine failed. These included engine knocking, repeated sensor failures, the speedometer and odometer blacking out while driving, the navigation screen going dark, and the entire instrument cluster malfunctioning. These issues caused loss of speed information, loss of vehicle status, and loss of navigation visibility, creating unsafe driving conditions. Despite these warning signs, the engine later failed suddenly at around 71,399 miles with no warning lights, no oil pressure alerts, and no overheating indicators. The sudden loss of power created a highway safety hazard due to loss of propulsion and reduced steering and braking assist. The manufacturer and dealership also provided conflicting and misleading information about warranty coverage, including a claim of “no warranty on engine,” which contradicts the official warranty coverage documents. This has delayed proper repair of a safety related defect.
While operating my Kia vehicle, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of braking capability and loss of acceleration/power while traveling downhill. Multiple warning lights reportedly illuminated during the event, including the battery light, oil light, and check engine light. The incident created a serious safety concern due to inability to properly control vehicle speed and operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Kia dealership for inspection. However, the dealership has refused to provide written confirmation that the vehicle is safe to drive and stated they would not assume liability regarding operation of the vehicle. The dealership further recommended towing the vehicle if I feel unsafe operating it. I am requesting investigation into the safety-related condition involving braking/drivability failure and related warning systems.
I was driving the vehicle and came to a stop sign. When I accelerated to turn and drive what was a steep windy downhill Road my car jerked some and the check engine light battery light and oil light came on the dash when I went to push the brakes they went all the way to the floor and the car did not stop. I continued to try the brakes and had to use the emergency break to pull up and down to stop and drive up on a hill to not crash into other vehicles I have my vehicle at Kia and they are claiming there is absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle and I am to pick it up and leave the lot. They have not offered a loaner car or shown any concerns of my safety leaving the lot. I have asked for it to be in writing, but my car is safe to leave and they are not doing so this has caused major anxiety and PTSD to even begin to drive myself and my children are very shook up over this.
On three different occasions this car’s engine shuts off on me sometimes at highway speeds. It is terrifying being in the left lane and losing all propulsion and power steering. I have to quickly put the car in park (in the middle of the highway) and then restart the car to go again. When it starts failing it keeps shutting off when we come to a stop in stop and go traffic. It’s like the auto shutoff option shuts off the car abut won’t turn it back on. I took it to DCH Kia of Temecula to get to the bottom of this issue. They are saying because there are no check engine lights and they cannot replicate the problem they can’t do anything and want to return the car to us. We fought that and they started a techline report for engineering to help troubleshooting. Kia customer care was involved, but I was told I had 48 hours to pick my car up as is. Driving this car on long trips is now terrifying for me and my family, if you look online, nationwide Kia tellurides are having this same issue I’ve seen from the 2020 models to 2026. I am not the only person having this issue with a Kia telluride. Something needs to be done NATION WIDE before loss of life happens. I would venture to use the fall of the “Saturn” car company as an example of knowing there’s an issue and not fixing it. I want a solution to this issue and I do not feel that “just trade it in” is an acceptable answer.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while driving at 66 MPH, the sunroof unexpectedly exploded. There was no impact on the sunroof to cause the failure. The sunroof cover was closed during the failure. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,178.
Standard opening of sunroof, the a part of the wind deflector snapped, without any abnormal incident or misuse. This caused the glass to be misaligned and other damage to the sunroof track. Estimated cost $6000. No warning and no prior damage for causation.
This is a follow up to the above referenced case #XXX This has been reported to the Attorney General’s Office and they have requested that I send along the following information to your office. I purchased a 2022 Kia Telluride approximately 2 years ago. At the time, I also purchased a 100,000 mile extended warranty from KIA. The cost was $3,200. Since owning the vehicle, I have had a problem with the heating system. I contacted the Balise KIA dealership, West Springfield, MA where the car was purchased to have the heating system checked out. It is still not working correctly! The most recent attempt by KIA to fix the heat was 2/2/26 and was not successful. KIA stated “there is no fix”. Please refer to invoice #XXX. Driving a car with little or no heat is unacceptable. I was told that if there ever was a fix, the warranty would cover it. I was also charged a diagnostic fee of $159.95 which I paid, but did not agree with. This fee is charged if a customer decides against having the work done, which I agree with, but in this case, I wanted the work done, but they couldn’t do the work because there is no fix. If there was a fix, the warranty would have covered it. I feel this problem greatly reduces the value of this vehicle and some kind of resolution should be reached. I am [XXX] old and driving a vehicle that has little or no heat is not only uncomfortable, but unhealthy. I’ve been paying close attention to the heat when I’m in the car. It seems to work ok above 30 degrees, but below 30 degrees it doesn’t work properly. Thank you for your time and I await your response [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Windshield cracks so easily, slightest road debris creates a chip then crack
I was driving down the highway at 73 MPH and the sunroof shattered sending glass into the interior of the car, onto me, and into my clothes. It sounded like a gunshot and was terrifying.
After a long winter in northern ILLINOIS, we had a 70’ afternoon and I tried to open my sunroof and it stopped working. I heard a crunching sound and tried to reverse it and that may have made it worse. It had been working fine in the fall months September and October when I last used it. It did not cause a safety issue. No one was at risk. I’ve taken the car to the closest KIA dealer to me . Castle KIA in McHenry IL. The Kia dealer gave me an estimate on cost . There was no warning signs of it being broken until it actually happened.
Catastrophic rear differential failure at highway speed following recent warranty repair. Vehicle previously brought to Kia dealership for rear differential knocking noise. Warranty repair performed and vehicle returned. Within one week, original noise returned with additional whirling/ grinding sound. While traveling approximately 70 mph on the highway, vehicle experienced a sudden loud bang and immediate abrupt stop in traffic. At the time of failure, wife and two children were in the vehicle. Incident posed a severe and life-threatening safety risk.Visual inspection indicates complete rear differential mechanical failure, with fluid and component debris present underneath vehicle. Vehicle is currently unsafe to operate.Failure occurred immediately following manufacturer-authorized warranty repair.
We were driving in the left hand lane on i75 south about 15 miles south of [XXX] and about 10 miles from [XXX] . We were traveling about 75 mph with air conditioning on low. We heard a loud bang and pulled off at exit 328 to investigate. We pulled over at Myers carpet on dug gap road. We looked at the sunroof and it looked like it had exploded upward. 1/3 of the glass was gone and a cone like upward shattering appears in the edges of the blowout area. We had to go to the nearby tractor supply to find duct tape and plastic sheeting to tape over the whole sunroof to drive home to [XXX] . It just happened on 3/15/2026 at approximately 4pm. We have not yet been to a Kia dealer or called consumer affairs at Kia corporate yet. I am filing a ticket with Kia now. Child safety lock is failing. I get a failure message every day and the doors are not being locked. Causing a safety problem for families with children.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that while entering the vehicle, the front passenger's seat had a burned spot, and the front passenger side visor was melted. In addition, the contact noticed brown residue throughout the interior of the vehicle. The fire had appeared to self-extinguish. No warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was unoccupied. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the inspection had not been completed. The fire department was scheduled to inspect the vehicle within the next few days. The contact stated that the inspection was ongoing. In addition, the contact stated that the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V407000 (Seats) was completed on 10/15/2024. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
Subject: Safety Concern – Backup Camera Failure Causing Complete Safety System Malfunction (2022 Kia Telluride) I am reporting a safety concern regarding a 2022 Kia Telluride related to the rear backup camera assembly. The backup camera failed due to water infiltration through the camera seal, which entered the camera housing and caused an electrical short. When this occurred, the failure did not only disable the backup camera but caused the entire vehicle safety system to malfunction, disabling multiple safety features until the issue was repaired. When we brought the vehicle to the dealership, they stated that this was not the first Kia Telluride they had seen with the same issue. The quoted repair cost from the dealership was approximately $1,200. I ultimately replaced the camera myself, which restored the safety systems to normal operation. I have retained the failed camera assembly, which clearly shows the location where the seal failed and water entered the unit. Because the failure of this component disables multiple vehicle safety systems, I believe this may represent a broader safety concern if it is occurring in other vehicles. I am submitting this report so the issue can be reviewed for potential defects affecting other vehicles. Vehicle information and additional details can be provided if needed. Thank you. The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the steering wheel failed to turn in the intended direction. The auto cold error message was displayed. The contact stated that the steering wheel violently jerked back and forth three times. The vehicle was driven to the shoulder of the road and turned off. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle started. The contact stated that the error code "Auto Cold" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle remained at the dealer for three weeks for a diagnostic test. The contact stated that in 2024, there was an unknown recall for the front drive shaft. The recall repair was performed in 2024, and the vehicle was inspected at the time and passed the inspection. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
The windshield cracked for no apparent reason. The crack was on the driver's side, about 16 inches long, starting near the top and curving around the driver's view to the middle of the windshield.
Front sunroof suddenly shattered while going down highway. Remaining glass was pushed outward and no sign of impact was seen.
On January 28, 2026, I brought my vehicle to Kia of Fayetteville for brake pads, rotor replacement, and brake fluid service. I paid approximately $900 for these services and was provided a dealership loaner vehicle. Upon entering the loaner vehicle, I discovered a loaded firearm inside the vehicle as I was gathering my items. The firearm’s serial numbers appeared to be scratched off. Law enforcement was immediately notified. No apology, acknowledgment, or remedial action was taken by dealership management. During this incident, the service manager, Alex Prat, acted in an aggressive, disrespectful, and unprofessional manner. Shortly after retrieving my vehicle, my husband who was driving the vehicle experienced a complete loss of braking ability. The vehicle was towed to another authorized Kia dealership, Southern Pines Kia, where technicians documented that multiple brake system components were improperly installed and/or unsecured, including missing or improperly fastened hardware. The vehicle was deemed unsafe to operate.
Sunroof suddenly exploded while driving.
Infotainment screen is blank most of the time. Backup camera works intermittently. Dealer confirmed head unit failure and stated software updates cannot be performed. Quoted approximately $7,500 for full replacement. Issue has been occurring for over two years, beginning while vehicle was still relatively new. Creates unsafe reversing conditions due to unreliable federally required backup camera display. Dealer classified as infotainment module failure. No recall issued despite widespread owner reports of similar failures.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the front driver's side seat belt buckle failed latch immediately, causing the seat belt warning to activate. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver’s side seat belt buckle unlatched unintendedly, causing the seat belt warning to activate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the seat belt buckle was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.
Our Kia Telluride caught fire after sitting for about 3 hours. My husband had driven it that day with no issue. After it sat in our driveway for 3 hours, we noticed that it was on fire. The fire started in the back/underneath part of the vehicle. It was a complete loss.
Driver LCD screen went blank
Upon starting car, digital odometer cluster is blank. While the cluster is down, the gas tank cap is also unable to be opened. In researching on Google/kia forums, the fix has been to turn off the car, lock the doors and then unlock and restart the car. This is a 2022 and has happened approximately six times since purchase, the most recent time being today’s date again, the Kia forum suggested fix worked to remedy the problem today. Unable to “log these” with the dealership, unless it is brought in for service, but as the online remedy works, no service appointment is needed and therefore cannot on the spot replicate the issue as it randomly occurs. Unaware that these incidents could be logged on this site to establish potential patterns outside previous recalls for same issue.
Was driving heard a noise and then lost power to gas peddle and bunch of smoke and then flames coming from front of car got out and there were flames coming from hood eventually flames died down and was just smoking police &fire department were called. Piston blew through engine block these engine have a known oil consumption issue and I have kept up with oil .
My wife must use a cushion or pillow to sit in the passenger seat. This causes the Passenger Occupancy Seat Sensor to fail. The seat does not recognize that she is there. The seat belt alert does not chime and the air bag is turned off. I have called KIA and they have no fix. I have talked to the dealer and they have no fix. I can not override the air bag and turn it on manually. We have tried multiple cushions and pillows. It does work without the cushion but this is not an option for her body. How can this be safe??
I am reporting a safety issue with my vehicle’s electronic door locking system. Vehicle: 2022 Kia Telluride SX Prestige with Nightfall Edition Issue: The door locks randomly unlock on their own multiple times without any input. This behavior happens specifically when the child safety lock is enabled. While driving or after locking the vehicle, the locks will unexpectedly unlock, creating a serious safety and security concern. Safety Concern: This issue poses a risk to passengers, especially children, because doors may unlock unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. It also creates a security risk when the vehicle is parked, as the car cannot be reliably kept locked. Additional Notes: I have seen multiple similar complaints from other Telluride owners reporting the same behavior. This appears to be a recurring defect rather than an isolated incident. I am requesting that this issue be investigated for a potential defect and safety recall.
The infotainment system, which also allows for use of backup cameras and safety alerts went black and has ceased working. Despite a technician diagnosing it to see if it was a simple fix. It looks like a complete malfunction of the unit.
The oil filter housing cracked on the car, causing all the oil to leak out. In researching this, I have found that this is a common problem with the Kia Telluride and Kia Sorrento. The problem is that the oil filter housing is made of cheap plastic and not durable material such as aluminum or steel. This allows the oil filter housing to easily crack under stress. In speaking with the dealership, this is not an uncommon problem. I feel that this should be covered under the Powertrain warranty or through a recall. A quick Google search will show that the problem is widespread in the Sorrento and Telluride models. This repair cost me a total of $425. If I had not replaced or repaired oil filter housing, the engine would have locked up as all the oil at escaped onto the pavement.
While driving our 2022 Kia Telluride under normal operating conditions, the panoramic sunroof glass suddenly and spontaneously shattered outward with a loud explosion-like noise. The sunroof was fully closed at the time of the explosion. There was no impact with any object, no debris strike, no road hazard, and no external cause observed. Weather conditions were clear, traffic was normal, and the vehicle was traveling at a normal speed. The failure occurred without warning. There were no prior cracks, chips, noises, warning lights, or messages before the incident. A large hole immediately formed in the sunroof glass, and glass fragments fell into the vehicle and were caught by the shade. The sudden shattering and loud noise scared the driver and passengers and created an immediate safety hazard, requiring us to pull over right away. Occupants were placed at risk of injury from falling glass and sudden driver distraction. For safety reasons, loose and hanging glass was removed after stopping the vehicle. At the time of this report, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by a Kia dealer, manufacturer representative, or independent service center, as the incident occurred recently (we have an appointment in two days). The remaining sunroof components and vehicle are available for inspection upon request. This appears to be a sudden and spontaneous glass failure occurring during normal vehicle operation.
I had noticed a 1" wide crack had formed in the center of the windshield after first night of cold weather (~10°F). There was no prior damage to the windshield before the crack formed. I'm concerned that the crack will continue to spread as we progress into the winter in the upper Midwest, ultimately shattering while I'm driving.
Plastic oil filter housing cracked after oil change around 100k miles.
Noise over bumps from the rear
This is a very well known issue among all model years of the Kia Telluride. The plastic filter housing is made out of plastic and over time it ends up failing causing an oil leak. I ended up having to pay out of pocket for a aftermarket housing that was metal and not plastic that won’t fail.
My 2022 Kia Telluride is experiencing several serious safety-related defects. The backup camera does not work, the second-row bucket seats fold up on their own while driving, and the electronic parking brake becomes stuck on and will not disengage. The transmission hesitates and shifts harshly, creating a risk during acceleration and lane changes. The engine is consuming oil between changes. The heating and air conditioning stop working when the vehicle is idling at stoplights, and electrical components including the front phone charger and heated passenger seat have failed. The exterior window trim is deteriorating. These issues are ongoing and have not been resolved by Kia. Several of these failures match known defect and recall categories. These create a significant crash and safety risk for my family. I am requesting investigation and manufacturer action.
The vehicle intermittently fails to shift gears and loses acceleration without warning, creating a serious safety hazard. The problem began in October 2024 when the check-engine light first appeared and has continued since. Despite multiple repair attempts by the Kia dealership—including replacement of the fuel pump, fuel pressure sensors, and ECU—the root cause remains undiagnosed, and the defect persists. When the vehicle was brought back in August 2025, the dealer’s latest recommendation on 9/30/25 was to replace the injector harnesses and front wire assembly, but they cannot guarantee this will resolve the issue.
My daughter was trying to get into the backseat of our Kia Telluride. She had one leg raised with her knee resting on the stepping area inside the rear passenger door. While in this position, she pressed the handle to fold the rear seat. The lower portion of the seat suddenly swung forward and closed with fast, strong force onto her folded knee joint, pinning it between the moving seat and the vehicle floor. She screamed immediately in pain and could not free her leg. I had to run around to the opposite side of the vehicle (the rear passenger side) and physically lift the seat off her knee to release her. The impact left a noticeable bruise just above her left knee. The folding seat mechanism appeared to move too quickly and with excessive force, and it did not stop or slow down once it encountered her knee. This presents a potential safety hazard, especially for children or passengers entering the vehicle who may accidentally activate the seat handle.
Borescope inspection of the engine shows multiple signs of internal mechanical failure involving oil control, piston ring integrity, coolant intrusion, and cylinder wall damage. Excessive oil buildup is visible above the oil control ring, far beyond what is expected at 59k miles. Cylinder walls show heavy polishing where cross-hatching should be visible, indicating loss of lubrication and abnormal wear. Carbon deposits are extremely thick; in several areas carbon has flaked off and been pulled downward into the cylinder, creating scoring. Straight vertical scoring marks cut through the normal diagonal honing pattern, confirming blow-by and damage to the cylinder sleeves. Evidence of coolant intrusion is present, including orange discoloration consistent with rust/coolant contamination, excessive moisture, and steam-cleaned areas of the combustion chamber. The intake valve and combustion surfaces appear abnormally clean, consistent with coolant steam-washing. This suggests head-gasket failure, a block or head casting defect, or ring damage (possible cracked scraper ring). Coolant in the cylinders can wash away oil from the bore, leading to rusted pistons and accelerated scoring. Multiple pictures show severe scoring and loss of lubrication. This compromises the ability of new pistons or rings to seal, meaning the cylinder walls would continue to allow blow-by, oil burning, coolant intrusion, and friction. Even attempting to polish or recondition these bores would enlarge them, causing piston flutter, noise, and long-term failure. Based on the level of damage, the engine is no longer safe or reliable. A seized piston could cause sudden loss of power at highway speeds, creating a safety risk. The observed defects indicate a potential manufacturing or casting issue that may affect other engines. The dealership and KIA Consumer Affairs have been notified but there has been no replacement or resolution after 3 months of ongoing issues, and 8 weeks of holding my vehicle.
The passenger side headlight randomly goes off. An alert comes on on the dashboard to check the headlight. The headlight comes back on randomly. I made several appointments to get it checked, but would be back on again when at the appointment. Diagnostic check showed no issues. The dealer replaced the bulb (not under warranty) and it worked for 1 year. The issue started again, another diagnostic was done, and a found no issues because the headlight came back on. A few weeks later it was out again and the whole lamp assembly was replaced. Not covered by warranty.
Sunroof glass exploded
2022 Kia Telluride Issues: 1. **Sunroof:** Completely broken. 2. **Exterior Window Moldings:** Fading and discoloration. 3. **Axel Boots:** Need replacement with less than 60,000 miles on the odometer. 4. **Child Lock:** Malfunctioning. -
PAINT IS FLAKING ON HOOD
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the infotainment system and instrument panel displayed black screens. A dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the middle rear passenger’s seat independently folded with or without a passenger seated in the seat. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the instrument panel and infotainment system needed to be replaced. The instrument panel and infotainment system were replaced on several occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that no additional assistance would be provided. The approximate failure mileage was 83,000.
White Paint Chipping prematurely
The Telluride has developed a shimmy. At first, the shimmy was noted at lower speeds, around 35 to 45 mph while under minimal load such as going uphill and slightly accelerating. The car was taken to the dealership. The tires were balanced. We were told no other problems. A month later, same thing, same result. We just took a 2700 mile trip. The shimmy is apparent at higher speeds and in all transmission modes of operation.
We went to get the vehicle serviced at a dealership we did not buy the vehicle from. we told them to knock out the open decals and when we came to pick up the vehicle they said that the recalls had already been completed. We have owned the vehicle for over 2 years and not had any of the completed. They printed off a form with all of the recalls and it showed the dealership we bought the vehicle from in Missouri as completing the recalls. It’s not possible for them to complete them as we have lived in Texas for the last 2 years. I called the dealership multiple times with no reply. I contacted Kia corporate and they were told by the dealership in Missouri that they had completed them on a different vehicle but marked them as complete on ours. After months of not hearing back with a way forward from the dealership or corporate. I do not know where else to go to get this corrected. It is in very poor taste to have to fight to get an error on the dealerships side fixed. The recalls are for safety issues with the vehicle.
⸻ The issue I’m experiencing is with the power windows. The problem comes and goes—sometimes none of the windows in the car will roll down at all. When this happens, there is nothing I can do to get them to work. Other times, the windows work normally. This is a safety concern because if the windows won’t roll down, we have no emergency exit from the car besides the sunroof. The sunroof has not had any issues. There have been times when only the driver’s side window will work, but none of the other windows will, even though each seat can normally operate its own window without a problem. I have not had the car inspected yet by a dealer or service center. I was first checking to see if there were any recalls or other complaints, and I did notice other people reporting the same issue. No warning lights, messages, or other symptoms appeared before the problem started. It just happens randomly.
Engine seized while driving down the road.
The vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure due to burning oil. At no point did warning lights or alerts appear on the dash. This failure occurred well within the terms of Kia’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. I was informed by the dealer that warranty coverage is being denied because I do not have every oil change or service record available. I want to emphasize that under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Kia cannot deny warranty coverage solely due to lack of receipts unless Kia can prove that the absence of maintenance directly caused the failure. Premature engine failure due to excessive oil consumption is a known defect and not the result of neglect. Kia is refusing to replace the engine, the vehicle has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now with no resolution.
Back seat locks repeatedly engage and disengage when activating childproof lock. This is intermittent and since dealership couldn't get it to occur they wouldn't fix it. Today it happened again. There are multiple reports online regarding this issue with 2020-2022 Palisades and Telluride. This is a huge safety issue and makes the childproof locks completely unreliable.
vehicle has been exhausting small amounts of smoke since 20,000 miles. between recommended oil changes, car will lose a quart or more of oil in its reservoir. there is every indication that the vehicle is burning oil. painted trim around windows is fading, failing. some areas are completely without paint.
For months I had been having issues with the vehicles oil consumption and the vehicle not keeping oil in it and it just buring out and having to get oil changes every month or month in a half my car begin stalling and shutting off in the middle of traffic due to the issue and now I need a new engine and the car is fairly new, I’ve kept up on my oil changes regularly and KIA refuses to fix the issues because the mileage is outside of the warranty allowance. This has been told to me that this is a common issues for tellurides
Windshield cracked for no reason. Developed a crack from the edge to the center of the windshield about 2 ft long.
We are replacing a second windshield in less than 2 years. Small pebbles start a chip, and the window companies try to fill the chip, but it cracks anyway. In both instances, the crack spanned from one side toward the top and affected my line of sight. The glass companies say they fix a lot of these cars. I'm afraid to go through the car wash with the high speed dryers for fear that the windshields strength is compromised and something can happen. Kind of makes my car wash membership useless...... That's over $2000 for 2 windshields and even then I have no guarantee that it will last. I'm seriously thinking of selling it as soon as I get it fixed. I'll definitely check the newer models to see if they are still having a problem. Maybe they can do us a favor and at least manufacture a better quality window for our next installation?
vehicle oil change recommendation is 7500 miles. my car has burned through oil through past 4 oil changes to a very low level (almost empty) at less than 5000 miles. there was never any low oil alert sensor warning. as a result the transmission began jumping and gear slipping upon acceleration to the point of mechanics saying it needs a new transmission. On one occasion my vehicle actually froze/ ceased up in middle of rush hour traffic. I pressed the gas pedal and it had zero acceleration. the car completely shut off. Kia blamed me for having oil changes done outside of Kia service center as reason for the problem.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a clanking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.
My windshield had a light crack and it ran pretty easily. It should not have done this so quickly. The crack should have been isolated and given me time to get it repaired before I have to replace the whole windshield. I can feel the break. I wouldn't think with a laminated windshield that all US cars are required to have, that I could actually feel the sharpness of the broken glass.
The door locks will continually cycle to unlock on their own for up-to 90 seconds and then an error reads in the dashboard "child safety lock failure." Once that error occurs, the rear doors can be opened from the inside or outside of the vehicle when the child safety lock should be properly functioning. This error has been occurring for more than two years, and we have video of it occurring on many occasions. The dealership will not resolve the error unless they witness the error occurring. We've had it at service at least six times and they claim they cannot duplicate the error. The error occurs daily when the car is in our possession. I have researched this and found many Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade owners who have experienced the same problem and it is always traced to the rear door lock actuators being faulty.
Vehicle Information • Make: Kia • Model: Telluride • Year: 2022 • Approx. Mileage: 30k 2. System Involved • Component/System: Forward Collision Avoidance, Automatic Emergency Braking, Brakes, or Electronic Stability Control 3. Incident Description On 6/7/25 while driving my 2022 Kia Telluride on neighborhood street in Windsor Park austin Texas at approximately 25-30 mph the vehicle suddenly and forcefully braked on its own with no warning and no visible obstacle or vehicle in front of me. This unexpected braking occurred under normal driving conditions, with clear weather and dry pavement, and almost caused a collision with the vehicle behind me. No warning lights appeared on the dashboard, and no manual braking was applied by me. I believe this may be related to known technical service bulletins SC243 and SC252 concerning faulty automatic braking logic and the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU). This is a serious safety concern, and I am submitting this complaint in the hope that Kia will address this potential defect through recall or repair. There are reports similar to mine at highway speeds which would be deadly. 4. What Happened Next? I have contacted my local Kia dealership for inspection and plan to request that they document and diagnose the incident fully. Their online scheduler is showing next service appt not for over a week out which is not soon enough. I will call them first thing in the morning. I am also submitting this report to NHTSA to ensure that this is recorded as part of any ongoing safety investigation. Our vehicle was serviced within the last few months and we were assured there were no safety recalls on our vehicle. We would like this reevaluated.
Sunroof glass exploded while traveling down the interstate at 75 MPH. All occupants were covered in broken glass but there were no injuries. All of the windows were closed at the time, and the sunroof was not struck by a foreign object or anything. Definitely could have caused an eye injury or triggered an accident. It sounded like a shot gun blast. The vehicle is out of warranty so I'm going to report it myself and not waste time with Kia.
I was driving my 2022 Kia Telluride and my windshield crack, on the road and the crackline still running across my windshield. I think is dangerous to drive, but I don't if Kia will replace or do I need to pay my self
My Kia Telluride backup camera and screen has become unusable with random colors, screen dark spots, blacking out, and pixelation. This is becoming a widespread problem according to multiple message board posts for Tellurides. I cannot use the backup camera. Most users are reporting Kia refuses to cover as a safety issues and is charging over $8000 to replace the entire infotainment system. There were no warnings, just starting happening randomly and is now seemingly permanent.
The paint on the front of vehicle is peeling on both sides under the hood. The color is Glacial white
—-Engine problem, I was driving then dash board screen show up the red light of overheat suddenly, I pullover my car to see what’s going on, I don’t see no smoke no fire or leak. Very strange issue. I keep driving the car and everything is fine for the moment. This happens in the other Kia telluride that I had, that’s why I change it for this one 2022. And did the same thing of over heating. I took the car to the dealer but they prefer to sell me this 2022 Kia telluride like I said it did have the same problem. No solution. —-Suspension, the car bounce too much and it hit the floor hard, The car feels like don’t have suspension, I have to change the road system to get comfortable way and dont feel that situation, when I park the car move side to side that happen when a another car pass in certain speed, very uncomfortable situation.
I have an ongoing problem with this vehicle that KIA will not address. My alternator was replaced under warranty last April 30 and when I got it back, the CV boot was leaking grease all over the underside of the car. It took 6 weeks to get them to replace the cv boot (June 14). After that it continued to spray grease all over the underside of my car and there is an increasing amount of vibration going down the road. KIA said they didn't notice a problem when I took it back in August. I took my vehicle to an independent shop who said that at a minimum the front passenger cv axle needed replacement but that there is also a lot of play with the lower center motor mount. KIA did ended up replacing both cv axles when I took it back because at that point I had a significant wobble in the front end when I drive at speeds of 40-60mph. When I got my car back from cv axle replacement the problem was improved but there was still a vibration that has been increasingly worse. I returned my vehicle to KIA in January and they said they don't feel anything in the drive train but that now my tires have worn unevenly and need replacement. My tires were rotated every 6,000 miles and the vibration/wobble contributed to their uneven wear. I have replaced the tires and an alignment has been done, but it the symptoms are worse. Searching through social media and various sources show that the front passenger cv axles are a common issue for the Tellurides and a lot of people are experiencing similar problems. My suspension checks out. All of the obvious things have been ruled out and the required maintenance has been performed. I have had 3 occasions where there was a noise that sounded like something coming apart going down the road. I have concerns that this vehicle is unsafe to drive. I feel that KIA is not going to address this problem unless there is a recall requiring them to do it.
As part of the fix to address a recall related to a a drivetrain defect and potential rolling issues, Kia installed software that would automatically apply the emergency brake when the car was put into park and the door was opened, and/or turned off. The problem with this fix is that once the car is off, the driver can not disengage the parking brake, thus creating an issue related to towing or moving the vehicle out of the road after an accident. This also makes it impossible to perform a rear brake replacement as the parking brake cannot be released. This software update needs to be amended so the the driver can disengage the parking brake when needed.
22May2023: 2022 Kia Telluride had a complete brake failure while exiting an elementary school garage, leading to a collision with the closed gate. ABS warning lights came on and witnesses heard ABS sounds despite dry pavement and slow speed. Driver stopped car by throwing into park. CCTV captured the incident. Can send higher res but your site won't allow large files. Inspections (22-24 May 2023): Multiple ABS and electronic stability control (ESC) errors were detected by local repair shops and a Kia dealer. Other Reports: Owner found other Facebook with similar ABS-related brake failure. They claimed they had contact with about 7 others with same issue - allegedly signed secrecy agreements with Kia to receive compensation/buy back. Dealer Inspection Blocked (30Nov2023): Kia scheduled another brake inspection at dealer, but a regional Kia executive intervened and canceled it last minute. No explanation given. Kia's Refusal (8Apr2024): Kia denied ABS issues could cause brake failure, despite evidence. 20May2024 Recall: Kia recalled a wheel sensor linked to ABS malfunctions but claimed it does not affect braking ability. Settlement Offer: Kia offered compensation but required a secrecy agreement and other terms not acceptable to owner. I have documentation for all.
I cranked my vehicle and it sounded very loud. Almost a knocking sound. After I turned it off I checked the oil. There was no oil showing on the dip stick. I had no oil in my driveway or had no signs of oil burning at any time. I added 3 qts of oil and took it to a local Firestone auto and had the oil change. The mechanic said he saw no leaks. He mentioned to me that several people have had an issue similar to mine with this make and year model. He said he thought Kia would have issued a recall for this by now. I was basically told by a mechanic that this will keep happening unless Kia fixes the problem and replaces the engine. It's not a problem they can fix, it is a defect with the model of car itself
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that after his wife had parked the vehicle and left the front driver's side door opened while there were two passengers in the rear seats. The contact stated that his wife unloaded the vehicle and walked towards the front door. The contact's mother-in-law and daughter who were in the residence noticed that the vehicle was rolling back and alerted the contact's wife, who turned around and ran after the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into the rear passenger's side of another parked unoccupied vehicle. The vehicle continued to roll back until it crashed into a palm tree. The contact stated that none of the passengers occupying the rear seats sustained injuries. The vehicle was driven back to the driveway. The contact stated that the front driver's side door which was opened at the time of the incident, became bent and damaged. Additionally, the rear of the vehicle was damaged. The contact stated that the incident was recorded by his front door camera. No police report was filed. The vehicle was then towed to an autobody repair shop to be repaired. The contact stated that the recall of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V214000(Power Train) was previously completed on the vehicle; however, the recall remedy failed to fix the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The contact sent a recording of the incident to the manufacturer, but the manufacturer denied assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
Went to the carwash and the sunroof exploded
Recall repairs done at original dealership(bought new). Passenger seat components that were repaired started an electrical fire under the passenger seat while vehicle was driving. There was a horrible smell inside the car and coming thru the air vents so I turned the ac off and smoke started billowing from under the seat. Immediately pulled over and removed children from car. Vehicle is available. Incident happened with 1 adult 3 kids in car driving. Dealership towed from side of road and kept in service for 54 days(rental provided) and returned with over 1600 new miles on it with no usage of the vehicle told to me and now the affected seat is not connected into the electrical system of the vehicle. Manufacturer did not choose to inspect. No warnings prior.
While driving approximately 40mph down straight roadway without anything around, the vehicle has unexpectedly slammed on the brakes. This has happened four times to date (11/13/24 - 12/25/24). During two of the instance's lights flashed on the dashboard and indicated the front right corner sensor of vehicle. During the other two occurrences, lights flashed on the dashboard and indicated the sensor at the rear right corner of vehicle, even though the vehicle was again traveling forward at approx. 40mph. In each case the brakes were unexpectedly applied very hard for several seconds before returning to normal. There were no other vehicles around and no dirt or other obstructions to the sensors. Vehicle was brought into dealer for diagnostics and was told they could not duplicate the concern. I asked the dealership to contact Kia for support and they refused. I then contacted Kia directly asking for assistance in getting this resolved. They responded that they rely on diagnostics from the dealership and only if the dealership can duplicate the issue will anything be done. This is an extremely dangerous drivability issue of which the dealer agrees. But since they have not witnessed it firsthand, no further action is being taken to attempt to find and/or replace whatever part is malfunctioning. In searching the NHTSA website, I see several complaints where individuals have experienced strikingly similar complaints (NHTSA # 11538285, 11485486, 11457515, 11457281, 11589381) with this vehicle.
My Wife was driving 37mph in town at 1:40pm on a 31* afternoon. When she hears an apparent "gunshot", it was not a gunshot. Her forward sunroof had exploded. She had the sunshade closed thankfully so she did not get hit with any glass. Her vehicle was not hit by anything. The glass looks like it was forced from the inside, blowing the glass outwards. We took her vehicle to our local dealership. They vacuumed up the glass shards, and then taped the remaining glass on both sides, and also covered the roof until repairs can be made. Dealership is filing for warranty, but awaiting approval.
I was rear ended at a high rate of speed, causing me to fly down a 15 foot embankment, where I sideswiped a telephone pole. The latter causing damage to the passenger side front quarter panel. The airbag did not deploy after either impact, nor did the seatbelt stop me from hitting the steering wheel multiple times.
Description of the Problem: I noticed a crack suddenly appearing on my car’s windshield without any external impact, such as a rock or debris. The crack seems to have formed spontaneously, starting from the bottom edge and growing through the center of the glass, and there are no visible signs of external damage or impact points. This raises concerns about the quality or structural integrity of the windshield. It started early in the morning at about 6 inches but now has more than 12 inches and two ramifications. The car was parked in front of our garage and there were no extreme temperature changes. Concerns: I am worried that the windshield may have a manufacturing defect or material issue that could compromise the safety of the vehicle. This could pose a risk if the crack spreads or the windshield fails under stress.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear windshield inadvertently shattered. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of the issue. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 37,000.
Subject: Urgent Safety Complaint Regarding Recall Delays for My Kia Vehicle Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am reaching out to file a safety complaint regarding an ongoing recall issue with my Kia vehicle that has not been addressed, despite multiple attempts to have it resolved. Kia has been aware of the necessary recall for several months, and I recently scheduled an appointment with my local dealership to address these recalls. Unfortunately, the dealership canceled my appointment the day before, citing that they still do not have the necessary parts to complete the repair. This situation has escalated to a serious safety hazard, not only for my family and me but for others around us. Recently, while my vehicle was parked at my child’s school, I experienced a malfunction that caused the vehicle to roll forward while still in park. I was momentarily unaware of the movement and was horrified to realize it almost struck a mother and her child who were exiting the school. This has been a frightening and deeply disappointing experience, and I am concerned about the lack of urgency from Kia in addressing this issue. I urge NHTSA to look into this matter and take action as needed to ensure that Kia expedites the resolution of these critical safety recalls. This issue cannot wait any longer, as it poses a serious risk to public safety. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [XXX] Phone: [XXX] Email: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
A deer ran into my vehicle while I’m traveling at 55MPH and my airbags did not deploy. My vehicle is leaking fluids and smoking.
Sunroof is stuck in an open position unable to be closed. Upon attempting to open the sunroof, the deflector snapped off the assembly and the sunroof track broke. Took car to dealership (Raceway Kia, 4044 US-9, Freehold, NJ 07728) for service. Dealership indicated the sunroof is beyond repair and requires installation of an entirely brand new sunroof assembly at a cost of $5730 because it occurred outside the warranty (warranty expired at 60,000 miles and the car had 70,463 miles when sunroof broke). They were unable to manually close the sunroof as a temporary solution. Therefore, the sunroof remains open due to the broken track and is covered with plastic to avoid the elements. There were no prior symptoms indicating that the sunroof would break in this way. In fact, in three years of ownership, the sunroof was rarely used and only opened a handful of times before breaking. At this time of this writing, the sunroof is available for inspection while I look for more economical means of repair versus the dealership's plan to replace the entire assembly.
The sunroof broke while being opened which required immediate repair since it was propped open. The only fix according to the dealer was to replace the entire unit which cost more than $5k with parts and labor
Received a software "fix" that engages my parking brake every time I turn off the engine. I don't want the parking brake engaged each time I stop - the potential for freezing in place due to cold or rust is too much. Not even sure what this "fix" was supposed to resolve.
The sunroof glass of the Kia Telluride EXPLODED while driving on the freeway. It sounded like a gun fired off inside the vehicle. NOTHING hit the glass to cause this to happen.
The sunroof in my 2022 Kia Telluride will not slide backwards to be completely open. It will slide about an inch then stop. Yesterday I took it to the local Kia dealership who tried to clean the tracks. They told me that didn’t work and that I would need to bring it back, leave it all day and pay close to $400 JUST to find the problem. Today I was taking a look again myself and noticed the deflector is broken. The cheap plastic has just broken right off and the piece is laying there lifeless. Because I travel for work, I am no longer under warranty. An estimate just for parts to fix everything is close to $4000! Without labor!! And, I did all of that research in 10 minutes which would have cost me $400 and a whole day without my car if I had done as they wanted. This is outrageous. My car is TWO years old and already things are breaking. I see in forums that this is NOT a new issue. Why isn’t Kia doing something about this? People don’t have thousands of dollars to just throw around when we already pay an arm and a leg for the car anyway! I am now stuck with a sunroof that doesn’t work properly unless Kia will PUT OUT A RECALL!!!!
Windshield had a small chip and then spidered next day across entire windshield. Dealer said, “So sorry, but can’t help or repair.” The 2020 Telluride had a recall and they fixed my first one after repeated calls.
The contact owns a 2020 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while reversing, after releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated to 4 MPH. While driving, after releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle independently accelerated. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed the contact that the vehicle was working as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 38,300.
Description of Problem: Component/System: Windshield Failure/Malfunction: The windshield on my 2022 KIA Telluride developed a 6-inch crack that rapidly expanded to approximately 27 inches over the course of one night while the vehicle was parked in my garage. The crack appeared without any visible external impact or cause. Safety Risk: The sudden and significant expansion of the crack compromises the structural integrity of the windshield, posing potential safety risks for the driver and passengers, including impaired visibility and reduced impact protection. Confirmation/Reproduction: While the issue has not yet been confirmed or reproduced by a dealer or independent service center, I have found numerous online complaints from other KIA Telluride owners experiencing similar issues with their windshields cracking without apparent reason or after minor impacts such as small stones. Inspection: The vehicle and component have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or any other parties at this time. Warning Symptoms: There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the crack’s appearance.
A small rock hit my windshield on my way to work but did not initially appear to cause damage. Upon arriving at work I made no notice of any visible cracks or damage. Went in to the office, worked 8 hours, proceeding to get in my Telluride, removed my sunshade and noticed about an 18" to 24" long crack in my winshield running right down the middle. It was mindblowing how bad the crack was after a day that was not extremely hot or cold.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V407000 (Seats); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact noticed that the front power seat became inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the power seat slide knob had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the parts not being available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The vigils when turning left or right makes a grumbling sound from the rear or transmission. Took the car to Kia in Huntsville. Al and they keep saying they don’t hear anything. You can clearly hear it. I have video recording. Seem like they don’t want to cover what is broken. It could possibly be the transmission case/ coupler because it’s an AWD. Next I will be filing a law suite.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idle and in park(P) in the driveway, the vehicle jerked forward while his wife was in the front driver seat. As the contact's wife checked the gear shifter, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into the contact's garage door without warning. The garage door, garage rail, and garage opener were all damaged as a result of the crash. The air bags did not deploy upon impact; there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The manufacturer was immediately notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.
Rear windshield spontaneously shattered. Turned on vehicle and shifted from park and as I pulled forward I heard a pop a noticed my whole back windshield just completely shattered. Didn't hit anything or nothing was thrown. Initially looked thought someone may have hit with something or thrown a rock when parked to explain the damage, but security footage does not indicate any such activity and confirmed with police.
I have a 2022 Kia Telluride with 3 "urgent" recalls. Unfortunately, I am in the military and stationed overseas. The local Kia dealer cannot view the recalls in their system. We contacted a Kia dealer in our US home state, and they told us they cannot provide the parts or work to be conducted without the vehicle being in the US. As it stands, we cannot ship the vehicle back to the US when we move as there are recalls on the vehicle. We have an expensive paperweight and no clear path to fix the issues.
The rear sunroof exploded. Just happy the screen was closed or it would have rained glass down on my kids.
While driving at low speed through neighborhood streets, the front sunroof exploded out of nowhere. Safety was put at risk because of tempered glass falling on driver and passengers. Luckily the shade was closed. Has not yet been inspected by anyone. No warnings of the failure. Kia said they would not cover under warranty.
Sunroof wind deflector snapped and made the whole sunroof off track. Unable to open or close.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that the tailgate safety sensor failed causing an inadvertent closing of a liftgate on the contact. As a result, the contact received a head concussion and injuries to the neck and spine. The contact received medical attention was the Emergency Room and currently visits a spine interventional pain doctor for neck injections. A dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The sunroof basically exploded and shattered out of nowhere. We were driving on the freeway with no one else around else when we heard a loud POP like we got hit. It was so loud it woke up the 2 kids and the [XXX]. We heard air coming through the closed sunroof and immediately pulled over and got out of the car. When we looked at it, the glass was shattered. Nothing hit us, there was no one around (had just passed through Pueblo CO head to Albuquerque.) The load pop surprised my spouse that was driving which could have caused an accident. The 2yr old car set was situated in the middle seat which was right under the sunroof. The glass could have gotten into all our eyes or cut us. I called the extended Warranty and it does not cover broken glass. He said he heard of this happening before. I did a quick search online and it seems like it’s happened to many people. The sunroof just exploding for no reason. Will have to go through insurance to get it fixed. I added pictures (I couldn’t really reach to get the whole view) we have duct tape on it now. The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that after parking in the driveway and exiting the vehicle, moments later the vehicle erroneously rolled backwards and struck the side of the residence. During the failure the front and rear driver's side doors and residence were damaged. The cause of the failure was not determined. The contact was informed of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V214000 (Power Train). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 37,600.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the local dealer for a software update of the electronic braking system (EBS). The contact stated that while shifted to drive(D), the parking brake warning light illuminated and engaged. The brake light illuminated while reversing. While idling at a stop, the symbol was yellow. There was an abnormal zooming noise detected, and an unknown message was displayed. The contact's son, who is an engineer, informed her that there was a glitch in the system. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 27,258.
I took the car to the selling dealer for an oil change and two recalls. When i picked the car up I was told requested work was performed. I was also told they updated the radio. I did not request this and It was not mentioned prior to receiving the car. The safety issue; practically all systems connected to "Kia Connect" have changed. This is a major safety issue and distraction. 1. The screen intermittently does not turn on or is slow to respond when the car is started. 2. The touch screen sensitivity has changed. Doesn't always respond to commands requiring several attempts . 3.The entire on-screen radio format layout has changed from horizontal to vertical. 3.The GPS has added unnecessary commands 4. The voice activated phone commands have changed with additional unnecessary commands required to complete a call. The phone Bluetooth system, unknown to me, now switches to my wife's phone when I get out of the car and return, preventing me from making or receiving hands free calls while driving the car, defeating the whole purpose of a hands free system. Having sold car phones in the eighties, and being one of the first to have hands free in my car, I feel I know the systems better than most. Entire Bluetooth voice command and on screen displays have changed. On a recent trip on [XXX] in Chester, Pa there was debris blocking one lane of the three lane road. I attempted to notify PA State Police, When I said "Call Police" it displayed a number of 911 related phone numbers associated with 911 on the right portion of the screen from which I was required to respond to. Prior to this update the system would simply call "911" as programmed by me. Another distraction when attempting to making an emergency call. The car is over two years old with 51,000 miles. Obviously I have become familiar with all the systems in this time. I called "Kia Connect" which representative basically told me that was the change and to live with it. Windshield cracked under normal driving conditions. The crack was not caused by a strike or impact of any kind.
Cross bar key covers keep coming loose and flapping around while driving. They do not stay engaged. I note this was an issue in 2020 models. Please require another technical service bulletin requiring them to fix this. It is dangerous if it flies off while driving and hits other vehicles.
The dashboard display went blank while driving down the highway. I could not see my speed, fuel level, or and engine performance indicator lights. I called Kia and found there was a recall for this problem but NOT FOR MY VIN. Well, I have the same dangerous issue as those included in the recall, so I think my vehicle should be recalled immediately. Thank you.
Windshield crack developed from the lower left driver side, up and across to the middle of the glass right in the field of view of the driver. There was no chip, no strike of any kind. Simply pulled the car out of the garage where it is kept daily and went 1 mile to the mail box. The crack appeared on my return and is getting larger. Did my research and found out about the class action lawsuit. I've seen where it is very much a known issue. I will contact KIA customer care next and then the dealership.
While idling there is no heat. This is very dangerous in states where it drops below freezing. If I should be able to rely on getting heat but I can not. They called it a “design flaw”
Battery indicator began intermittently flashing on the dash. Then the car shut off mid turn in an intersection with my young kids in the car. Everything shut off without warning including power steering, ABS and so on. Luckily no one crashed into the car
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that the client's vehicle was parked in the driveway and turned off, while the client was reaching into the rear driver-side seat area the vehicle began to erroneously roll backward causing the rear door to make contact with the client, and the client was knocked to the ground. The EMS was called to the scene and the client was transported to the hospital. A police report was taken at the scene. During the incident, the client sustained an injured left leg, injured left side, neck, and back injuries. The client also suffered emotional distress due to the incident. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The client was recently informed of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V214000(Power Train). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced that same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
Car sways between 60-80 mph and the shocks didn’t fix it
On two occasions, so far, I have experienced a blank instrument cluster display screen that did not show critical information, including the odometer, transmission gear position, and digital speedometer which could increase the risk of a crash and fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101 The first picture is of the first incident which occurred on [XXX] which shows the blank screen. The second picture was taken on the same date after the screen came back on after driving a short distance and shutting off and restarting the vehicle. The third picture was taken earlier this month on [XXX] showing a new occurrence of a blank screen. Both incidents were reported, including the dates and pictures, when the vehicle was taken to the dealer (Destination Kia in Albany, NY) but the dealer stated that they could do nothing as the problem was not present at the times the vehicle has been there for service and the manufacturer (Kia) indicates that there is no applicable repair or recall to this vehicle. Three pages of a post to a Kia Telluride Owners Facebook page in which an owner posted a picture of a black screen an owner posted yesterday [XXX] showing a picture of the black screen she experienced on her 2022 Telluride and asking if others have experienced this problem. Other forum members responded with their experiences with some saying a cluster replacement was necessary as called for in Recall [XXX] which another responded that a software update resolved the problem per Recall [XXX]. Driving home on highway moving 50-60 mph when suddenly loud noise from roof of vehicle, pulled over and found sun roof glass blown out and appearing like it blew upward, sun roof was in closed mode at time
The LCD screen in the instrument cluster/combimeter went blank. The LCD display contains information such as digital speedometer, gear selection, odometer, distance-to-empty, and all ADAS information. Problem cannot be reproduced. The phenomena has only presented itseld twice (11/2023 and 3/2024). Certified Kia dealer stated there weren't any signs of failure. Service proceeded to perform a hard restart on the system. There is a similar recall for this phenomena (21V577000).
The driver's side high beam headlight has stopped working. I am told it is because a baffle, a movable reflector, inside the headlight assembly has stopped functioning. In addition, the cost of replacing the headlight assembly is $1300. I know you have received some complaints about the 2020 Telluride. The same assembly in the 2022 Telluride.
My windshield has cracked spontaneously and now I have a crack that is the length of a quarter of the windshield.
FRONT SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED
About a year ago I was having issues with my windshield wiper fluid working. When I took my car in for repair they told me a rodent had chewed though it and needed to be replace. This was not going to be covered under warranty. About 2 months ago my engine light turned on. I took it to the dealership and they said rodents has chewed through my knock sensor wiring. This is also not covered under warranty. Replacement is going to cost about $900.00. While researching his on online seems like this is a big issues with thousands reporting the same thing. Kia North Austin knows this is a problem and works on many cars a day with these same issues. This needs to be looked into and the car companies need to take responsibility. I never had this issues with my Ford Explorer which I had for 10 years parked in the same spot as my Telluride. I did not have a big rodent problem at my house. Any help would be appreciated.
A blank instrument cluster display will not show critical information, such as tire pressure, warning messages, and warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash. Same as the 2023 Telluride recall affecting my 2022 (NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V298000)
Vehicle struck drivers side rear passenger door going at least 30mph and side air bags did not deploy. Upon inspection and door removal for repair, it was found that in the crash, the air bag sensor was struck and broke. The door and everything in it has to be replaced as well as the unibody sections surrounding each side door. This was a significant impact where the side air bags should have deployed.
Engine has been knocking since I purchased the vehicle new. Brought it into the dealership and they couldn't hear the noise. Based on the keoporum it could either be a bad fan motor or blend door accurator. Scheduling another appointment for them to figure out why it's still doing this when the vehicle only has 24k miles on it.
Our windshield spontaneously cracked despite striking nothing.
The driver sunroof glass exploded while driving. The shade was closed. It looks as if it exploded inward to outward and may have been a defect in glass. Due to safety, with possible glass shards falling into cabin area, the vehicle has been sitting while I've been dealing with the Kia dealership. I see online reviews where it's happened to multiple Kia owners. This should definitely be a recall.
In preparation for winter driving operations that include clearing the windshield of snow and ice, "before entering the vehicle"; both windshield wiper arm assemblies are not able to be lifted away or disentangled from the windshield glass due to the specific design interference of the hood. ************* Without properly clearing the wiper arms, wiper blades and windshield of ice and snow, operating the vehicle is not safe. *************
Screens remain black on start up. Unable to read USB
ESC check failure.
A Kia dealership documented they performed the voluntary service recall SC252 HECU Inspection and determined my vehicle was within the guidelines and did not need replacement. 6 months later my vehicle experienced the symptoms of the HECU issue. The EPB, Auto Hold, and the ABS lights appeared on the console. We took the vehicle in for service, we were told they didn't have someone available to look at the issue and told us to reschedule, that is a separate issue. Weeks later when we took it and asked someone to look at it, since their next appointment wasn't for almost a month. The mechanic said immediately we can't let you leave with this car it is not safe. The brake fluid had leaked into the HECU box. So either the voluntary recall is inadequate or dealerships are not properly doing the inspection. I can not find detailed information on the risk associated with this but this is similar to the fire risk Kia has had in the past. In any case leaking brake fluid into the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit can't be safe. If this is a know issue why is this still a voluntary recall. My family was put in danger and Kia continues to ignore this is an issue.
Instrument Cluster A blank LCD display may be missing information, such as the digital speedometer, gear selection indicator, and odometer, which may increase the risk of a crash.
Problem started 4-5 months ago and was very intermittent; about 2-3 occurences per month. Problem has become more frequent and become much more severe. When foot is on brake and just coming to stop, engine races to around 6000 rpm. Originally would return to normal rpm in a second or two. Most recent occurences were on Oct. 10 2023, problem manifested 9 times. At stop, engine raced to 6000 rpm and remained there. Some times returned to normal rpm after few seconds, other times shifting to neutral and back to drive caused rpm to normal; 3 times I had to turn off engine. Once when restarting, engine immediately raced back to 6000 rpm and I had to stop engine again. Problem is intermittent so dealer says cannot tackle problem until they can experience problem themselves despite my very detailed description. Vehicle is unsafe to drive. Fortunately so far problem occured with foot on brake pedal so instantly increased brake pressure prevented vehicle from lurching forward into an accident.
Small pebble was kicked up onto the Front Windshield on normal 35 mph street driving. I have read up on many instances that the Kia Telluride has had many issues with thin or defective glass that is not able to withstand simple small rocks.. This is a MAJOR safety issue and concern that KIA must acknowledge for 2021 and 2022 Telluride owners.. Apparently they noted issues on the 2020 when they were released. In many cases creating a small chip that becomes a major crack once it starts running.. Ours was attempted to be repaired by Safelite AutoGlass.. But still a few months later the crack expanded and began getting longer. KIA must begin to extend warranties for Telluride Owners as this glass is NOT meeting safety standards in protecting passengers.. It may become more evident if someone eventually gets seriously injured if the cracking / shattering glass enters the cabin injuring passengers / children.
Driver side wiper gets stuck and won’t wipe in intermittent mode. Sporadically stops in auto mode.
Driving on highway in Dallas in high heat with no cars in front of me. Nothing appeared to hit Windshield or fly up but windshield cracked at very edge of drivers side and cracked at least 12 inches across within 5-10 minutes.
I have been having issues with the instrument display panel freezing. This has occurred about seven times this year. I have five of the times documented. Here are videos from the five most recent occurrences; March 18th, June 19th, July 18th, August 9th, and August 22nd. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11_if2oi5RqXpzH5K93916IbPniEG59Gv?usp=drive_link The July 18th occurrence was particularly concerning because I was low on fuel and had no distance estimate. When the panel freezes I am unable to see import information including the backup camera, turn signal camera, and cruise control information. Turning the car off and on does not resolve the issue.
The gauge center behind the steering wheel will freeze every couple of weeks and will stay frozen until the car is shut off. After a few hours I can turn the car back on and it will work correctly. The speedometer analogue gauge will work but the digital screen will freeze. For instance, yesterday it was frozen on 23 MPH and I was in park! The issue this causes is that I cannot use the cruise control, change the display to view other info, the blind spot cameras don't work, or any other info displayed there. I have video and pics.
This is the 3rd time my 2022 Telluride windshield will have to be replaced because of a crack from a small pebble on freeway. There is a defect of the windshield being thinner than most brands. There should be a recall to replace the windshield with a proper thickness one that doesn't crack so easily causing dangerous driving .
While puling down our gravel driveway at a low rate of speed, a small gravel rock hit the passenger side lower corner of our windshield causing a very small circular chip in the glass. Day 0 - We pulled into our garage immediately evaluating what we knew happened because we heard it... and we couldn't find ANYTHING. Day 1 - The next morning we looked again and found the tiniest dot (and I mean dot sized) and felt SO glad that it wasn't bigger than that. Day 3 - The indented "dot" became a full blown cracked line about 5 inches long and continued to grow in size a little more each day... until we had no choice but to replace the windshield entirely as it expanded across the entire windshield, from passenger side bottom corner to the driver's side upper corner! This is not normal. I've had several gravel rocks hit my windshield (from our driveway) and this has never happened. The fact that it did cause a small chip, I'm certain it would have stayed as a small chip in any other vehicle.
I’ve had numerous incidents where we were driving with adaptive cruise on and the vehicle will inexplicably engage the FCA system and slam on the brakes. This has occurred with no vehicles in front of me in clear conditions And had nearly caused a rear end collision.
The car smells like vinegar when it’s first turned on. I believe it’s something to do with the air conditioner.
While driving in August 2022 some normal road dust or sand hit my car and chipped my windshield in several places. I called my ResistAll company and they sent a guy out in September 2022 and he said he couldn’t repair it because it wasn’t “bad enough” Do not have a good picture. In March 2023, I was passing a vehicle going the same direction on the interstate and a small rock hit my windshield and instantly cracked it 6+ inches. I again contacted the ResistAll company and they informed me they couldn’t help because the crack was over 6 inches already, which it was instantly. Picture directly after incident attached. Red circle is where the rock hit. I, like many others, believe the windshields being installed on brand new Tellurides are defective and should be replaced at the manufacturers expense. Not to mention the ResistAll package the dealership insisted I purchase is pointless. Lessons learned but I’d hope to recoup some of that money back as well. In addition to my windshield, the finish on the trim on my windows is coming off so very discolored and looks terrible. They look like water spots but are not. Picture attached.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated while driving with the Lane Keep Assist activated in the Cruise Control mode, the vehicle inadvertently attempted to access the nearest exit independently. The contact also stated that while driving in manual mode at 55 MPH, the Lane Keep Assist jerked the steering wheel out of the driver's grip causing the vehicle to drift to the extreme left. The contact regained control by jerking the steering wheel in the opposite direction with excessive force. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who failed to accurately diagnose the vehicle. The contact was advised to disengage the cruise control feature while driving. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,500.
The vehicle is available for inspection. The vehicle windshield just cracked while the vehicle was parked in a driveway. Something must be defective in the manufacturing process. Windshield that just crack for no reason can cause safety concerns while driving for the passengers and other vehicles. The car was not being driven but simply the windshield cracked. We have not yet got it inspected by the dealer or other party/agency. The issue has not been recreated yet. Since it was parked it is unknown if any indicator lights or other warning occurred. This happened in the City of Orange California July 1, 2023. I would like a response from your agency about if others have reported this problem because Kia Motors was not very helpful. Where else can I get information about this issue? What else should we do? Please help.
My windshield cracked in March 2023 from a small stone on passenger side. In June 2023 I had the windshield replaced by Kia. 2 weeks later, windshield cracked from under the A post on the driver side. Kia dealership has said it was an outside source of impact, but it broke while driving, normal conditions and only vehicle on roadway. Kia is refusing to replace windshield again. 1st windshield was $1200. 2nd windshield the dealership offered not to charge labor, windshield will still cost $950.
Windshield cracked unexpectedly.
These windshields are paper-thin. Numerous cracks.
While waiting at signal, there are no visual or audible warnings when seatbelts disengage in the front. I'm concerned this might occur with the rear seats, which is haphazard for little ones in car seats.
2 cracked windshields that spidered out after a small pebble.
The contact owned a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the odometer became inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 60 MPH in the rain, the front and side sensors started beeping and the automatic headlights turned off. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be rewired. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was traded for another vehicle. The contact related the failure NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V344000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
IAfter recognizing some problems with suspension, I went to an independent auto repair shop. Mechanic discovered that axle on front passenger side was falling apart. He took pictures of it. I turned it into a nearest Kia dealer in Garden Grove, CA. They said that they would repair it under manufacturer's warranty after receiving parts. Dealer did not provide a copy of work oder. It was so dangerous to drive on the freeway with 2 toddlers on car seats. It occurred on approx. 11,000 milesage. This is a significant safety issue that needs to be officially investigated for safety. Mechanic stated that it almost fell out that may have caused fatal accidents
Saturday July 8 2023 heard crackling sounds like static coming from approximately 3/4 across the front console. Turned off radio, disconnected phone. Sounds continued, with no connection to road conditions or speed. Sunday July 9 2023 sounds continued intermittently. Monday July 10 2023 crackling sounds continued until a loud pop was heard. Windshield cracked at approximately 3/4 across the front and center of vertical (mid passenger vision). Very small center dot with three lines - looks like a bowtie or cat whiskers - intersecting at the dot, with a horizontal and two diagonal lines. Crackling sounds have since ceased. No impact to the windshield was detected prior to the crackling sound beginning.
Engine stopped suddenly while driving. Warning light (I believe check engine) came on simultaneous with failure. Had seconds to coast to side of road before car came to full stop. Injuries avoided because not on highway, no car immediately behind and on road with ability to pull over. Could not be restarted. Initial repair at dealership failed, had to replace entire engine.
Small rock hit windshield at normal driving speeds. The next day it was like a spiderweb and hardly a chip the day before. Kias have a class action lawsuit in regards to windshield quality.
The windshield is fragile. A small rock hit the windshield at highway speed and started to crack. This is the 2nd time this has happened. 11,000 miles on the vehicle and getting the windshield replaced for a seconded time. KIA needs to make the glass alot stronger to hold up to a minor rock chip.
A minor rock hit the windshield and caused a 1 inch crack approximately. It would have been small enough to fill in, however, the next day it spread to more than half the windshield after being in the sun. There is an existing letter referencing this exact issue from 2019 and looks like this is still an ongoing issue with the Telluride models and has not been remedied. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10168561-0001.pdf
Backed out of my driveway went about 100 yards down the street to make a left turn. I pushed on the brake and every possible warning went off. ABS light, traction control, collision warning, error messages kept coming on. The brake pedal went to the floor. I continued to pump the brakes. Tried to put the transmission into manual mode and downshift. That didn't slow us down. Still continued to pump the brakes. Had to make a right turn or jump the curb into a park. The steering was hard to turn. Pulled the adaptive electric parking brake. Nothing. We were going slightly down hill so had a little speed, but the car came to a rest and the brakes worked. All the other warning lights and error messages kept going off. Turned off the car and started it again. Drove home and it has set there for 3 days. The dealership is always closed on the weekends. I have lost complete trust in this vehicle and in the manufacture.
Was on highway driving and all of a sudden my sun roof exploded. I did have my visor closed, so that protected me from glass coming into vehicle. Stopped at nearest dealership (out of town) and had to be covered with a covering to prevent rain coming inside. Nothing was on road or anything that hit the sunroof. This was relayed and also seen when I took to dealership about 30 minutes after incident. When I returned back to my city 2 days later, I took to dealership in my area. I also notified KIA corp. as well. My insurance covered repairs but KIA dealerhip said they wouldn't because they felt as if it wasn't due to a malfunction of the product. Which I totally disagreed with since I was in vehicle and knew exactly what occured. I did file a claim and report with KIA corp. but they said dealership said they couldn't say it was the product that was faulty. They kept my vehicle for close to a month before it was repaired. Time ran out for my rental because dealership said they had part but no one to repair it and thus we had to oay out of pocket for car rental for a few more days. My vehicle was purchased brand new and had no wrecks or any damage until this issue. And when we took to dealership some of employees said they had had others come in with same issue.
windshield cracks without visible reasons on highway
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated there was knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. There were no warning lights illuminated. While driving approximately 50 MPH, the vehicle felt as if it had shifted into neutral. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed to provide accurate information while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Windshield cracked without even being hit by debris. Large crack. Less than 9k miles on the car
A small rock hit my window recently causing a small indent. The next morning three other cracks (each over a foot long), appeared. The new cracks didn’t come from the rock indent. Just started at random spots and within a couple hours connected. Doesn’t seem very safe and seems like the glass wouldn’t protect my family and I in a collision. Seems like it would just collapse in on us. It also makes it unsafe to drive by impeding our vision. Vehicle component has not been inspected but is available to upon request. No warning signs have been transmitted. Problem with faulty windshields has not been confirmed by dealer.
Instrument cluster, not working or intermittently working
Front sunroof exploded while driving, no foreign impact of any kind. Glass is bowed up and outward.
Windshield Crack
The windshield easily cracked during standstill and parked. The vehicle was relatively new at 8000miles. There was no visible evidence as to debris coming from outside.
Minimal impact caused immediate massive cracking across majority of front windshield. Spoke with others who own the same vehicle have had similar issues with fragile windshield glass
While driving, a small rock hit the the windshield. This caused a circular Crack in the windshield. The crack seemed excessive given the low rare of speed (approximately 25mph). My concern is that if the windshield cracks easily from a small rock at a low speed, it won't hold up at higher speeds or to an average sized piece of road debris.
Brake pedal will sometime become a “brick” after the car sits for a little while. Could be an hour, could be overnight. Not able to press down the brake pedal easily to crank the car. Has happened at least a dozen times over the last 4 months. Have not brought up the issue to the dealership yet. No lights on the dash to indicate an issue.
Vehicle does not blow hot air while in idle/parked when Vehicle is turned on or use remote start. Kia dealership could not find issues. Heat works while driving but once but into parked vehicle instantly goes lukewarm. Not ideal at bus stop with kids in the car nor if stranded on the road in Michigan winters; could be fatal.
The windshield has cracked in our vehicle. I cannot see any impact that would have caused a crack to form. It appears to be potential defect if the glass or type of glass used.
Windshield cracked fully 3 times in a year. Each time needed full replacement and there is no guarantee it will not happen again. I hate the car for this and am thinking about selling it off even though I love the drive of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated while driving 3-5MPH and making a left turn, the brake pedal was depressed but bounced back immediately and failed to respond. The traction control, the Auto Hold feature, and the forward collision avoidance warning lights were illuminated. The message "Forward Collision Sensor" was displayed. The contact depressed the brake pedal for a second time but the failure persisted, causing the vehicle to hit the rear of another vehicle. The contact stated it was a fender-bender. The air bags did not deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The contact was unsure whether the occupants of the other vehicle sustained injuries. There was no police report filed. The contact was able to drive to his nearby residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that no issues were found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would send an investigation team to investigate the failure. However, the investigation team investigated the failure remotely. The dealer later informed the contact that the rear wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
1. Windshield. Yes. Pics have been taken. 2. Windshield cracked just sitting in driveway having not been driven at all the day before it was noticed. Has increased in size drastically over only 2 days 3. Car has a svc appt for 2/17/23 for inspection. 4. No to any. 5. None. Does not apply. When windshield cracked was bounced, the vehicle was not driven at all the day before. 2 days prior, there was no visible Crack or chip of any kind. Sunshade is used every day. The size of the Crack grew immensely over the course of just 2 days.
Rear driver's side wheel speed sensor began to fail intermittently at 10K miles (confirmed and replaced under warranty by dealership, no longer have access to the failed part but can provide dealer contact info). This failure resulted in braking not working correctly – presumably ABS system would read a 0 RPM reading from the one wheel, which then led to ABS triggering at maximum strength for all wheels. The first time this occurred I was approaching a stop sign at approximately 20 MPH on dry pavement and was entirely unable to stop, rolling approximately 50 feet before the computer disabled ABS entirely and I was able to use mechanical brakes to stop. (In subsequent incidents I triggered the same failure in my driveway at extremely low speeds before getting onto a public road.) The following dashboard lights came on after each incident: Auto Hold, Auto Stop-Start, Forward Collision Assist, ABS, Traction Control, and Master Warning. No lights were on prior to brake failure. While the computer registered that the wheel speed sensor was not working mechanical brakes worked correctly (albeit with no stability control or ABS). However, occasionally the system would reset (after turning off / on the vehicle enough times or driving enough distance) at which point dashboard warning lights would turn off and brakes would again stop working reliably (ABS would trigger prematurely). My experience appears to not be an isolated incident: https://www.kiatelluride.org/threads/brakes-failing.1653/. Proposed fix: If wheel speed sensor is sending no data, ABS computer should fail open (assume the wheel is turning unless data from the sensor explicitly indicates otherwise). If the sensor is unable to differentiate between no signal and 0 RPM it should be re-engineered.
We have taken the vehicle in to Zeigler kia twice to complain about a clicking noise athat sounds like it around the tire area. Neither time has the issue been resolved. We have also taken the vehicle in for a recall that possibly could be related to the sensors being inoperable. This issue has yet to be resolved as well. They are quite unhelpful even making us stay on hold for over 30 minutes to try and speak to a representative. I would like to get the issue resolved as it sometimes sounds like a tire may disconnect.
Driving on the freeway and my sunroof window exploded. It was mid thirty degrees, so the sunroof window was not in use. There was no traffic on the freeway or overpasses, No cars directly in front. We were startled and looked around and heard the noise of broken glass above us. I am planning on taking it into the dealer on Monday. No warning lights or sounds were seen or heard.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed the vehicle lost power, and smoke started coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact was able to pull over and shut down the vehicle and the smoke stopped. The contact noticed that the brake control that was added to the vehicle for the tow hitch had melted and burned. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis, and they stated that the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board caused an electrical short. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and they stated there was nothing they could do because the tow hitch and brake control installed in the vehicle was an aftermarket part. The failure mileage was 7,968.
After a short trip to the neighborhood with my toddler son in his car seat, I parked my 2022 Kia Telluride and turned off the engine, got out of the car and took my son out of his car seat. While I was trying to collect my items to get to our home, (my toddler standing waiting for me next to the driver door of the car) the car started to move backwards making a very loud noise. I was stuck in between the driver door but luckily I run with car till it came to a full stop after hitting my neighbor’s mail box. The car is only 6 mths old with about 6500 miles. The car was towed the dealerships (Capital Kia) where we bought the car from and is being examined for default.
Driving slowly after just pulling onto a small road and a passing truck kicked up a very small pebble, it cracked the windshield with almost no impact mark, just left large cracks running across the windshield that spread another 5 inches or so having to drive the car to its destination since there was no one in that remote area to call, no cell service either. I have had many cars get their windshields hit much harder and have never gotten a crack ever, the Telluride windshield is known to be prone to cracking and Kia wont do anything about it. They claimed it was fixed when I asked before buying the car and it is definitely not since I see post after post on the telluride forums of other owners getting cracks sometimes on their first day of ownership.
Dashboard Center LCD screen blacked out right after starting the vehicle. Tried restating the engine but the LCD screen remained blank. I drove 10 miles and after a second restart, the screen came back. The LCD displays important information like the speed and fuel consuption, but I like to use it to display the speed I am driving at as it is more readable than the speedometer. I have scheduled an appointment to have it checked by the dealership.
I was traveling on a local road at approximately 35 mph, with only 1 other vehicle near me. I heard a crack, but did not see any rock hit the windshield. I immediately saw a spider crack form on the driver's side. The car is less than a month old and the windshield has no previous wear.
On 12/09/22, the center lcd instrument cluster went blank 2 different times while my wife was driving. Vehicle has 2200 miles on it. Kia issued a recall in May 2022 for this exact issue but only covered roughly 2700 vehicles. This vehicle does not have an active recall and was produced after the issue was supposedly fixed at the kia factory. Obvious safety issue and clearly affects more than the 2700 vehicles already recalled.
The windows are very loose, if they are down or cracked while driving 60mph+ they shake and rattle seeming like they are going to bust. I only have video proof. The dealership wasn’t able to test drive the vehicle at the speed the problem occurs
Since the purchase of my vehicle 7 30 2022 & after driving the first several times in the darkness/evening hours & since I have had safety concerns that the headlamps in my vehicle are insufficient/inadequate - not just the normal headlights illumination but also the high beams. When the high beams are activated the additional effect is negligible/deliver inferior performance. I have continued to reach out to Kia & thus far they have not been helpful. I believe driving at night time is putting me at a safety risk. The dealership did/does not have a way to test the headlamps in any sort of calibration or measuring means other than to turn on the headlights while in the service area and shine them on a wall. When driving during the night time hours I keep my speed on rural roads typically below the speed limit as I do not feel I could brake/stop the vehicle in the field of vision that the headlight illumination provides. I have reached out repeatedly to the Kia Assistance number & thus far there has been no action or contact made by any positive measures taken to address my concerns. I have even contacted my insurance agent twice to express my frustration of Kia's inadequacy to provide a solution or address my concerns. I ask please for any assistance that you may be able to help remedy this safety/risk concern.
Windshield has cracked and required replacement twice since I purchased the vehicle in Nov 2021.
Windshield cracked. Also oxidation on trim on both sides of windshield.
Rear passenger window spontaneously imploded while driving on a freeway. I took photos immediately upon arrival at home. No one was harmed, but had it been one of the front seat windows or someone seated in the back seat, they would have been harmed. Has not been inspected. Have appointment at the Kia dealership. They have not seen it yet. They resisted repairing it until we told them of other reports of KIA windows and sunroofs shattering without cause. I now have some fear of driving it and it occurring again. No warning or indication of the event.
Sunroof suddenly exploded an hour ago while driving on the interstate at 70mph. It was loud, startling both the driver and passenger. It could have caused an accident. Fortunately, the sun shield was closed which prevented glass from entering the passenger compartment. There were no cars in our path. I have not taken it to the dealer yet or called insurance. There was no warning prior to the glass exploding.
Headlights are NOT bright enough for night driving.
1st crack in windshield was a pebble, the 2nd was a bug that hit windshield.
245/50 R20 Tire exploded no rubber left on wheel I was on the freeway doing 70, and there wasn't a secure place to pull completely over. no I got 5 second warning my tire was at 26 all others at 30... then BAM
Blank instrument cluster same as NHTSA Campaign # 22V344000. This issue started happening about 2 weeks ago and has happened approximately 5 times so far.
At 13,500 miles I started hearing a clunking noise in the rear of the vehicle. There is also a strong burning rubber smell after I have been driving. The Kia dealer confirmed that my rear self leveling shocks need to be replaced. I'm not sure if the melting rubber smell is a fire concern. I am concerned that the reduced braking and cornering ability with the defective shocks would make it harder to avoid an accident. I'm currently waiting for the parts to arrive for repair but was instructed to continue to drive it. These shocks are specific to Tellurides with the tow package and it seems to be a known issue from the response I've gotten at both the dealer I purchased from and the dealer where I took it for service.
Electronic speedometer cluster goes out sporadically. Back up camera glitches out randomly and says No camera signal received. At least 4-5 times in a year. Kia service won’t do anything about it unless the can “duplicate the issues”.
Windshield cracked with less than 5,000 miles on the vehicle. I noticed it after picking it up from the dealership for an oil change.
While driving down the highway, the sunroof exploded. There were not cars in front of us or beside us at the time, and we have no indicators of any debris hitting the roof. The sunroof exploded upwards based on the curve of the remaining glass. We were going around 70mph on an 80 degree day. Most of the glass was caught but the visor but some did land on us. We have reached out to Kia and they have stated they have never heard of this before despite many other owners on Kia Complaint forums experiencing the same thing. This occurred on 10/3/2022 at approximately 4pm. We were not seriously injured and maintained control of the vehicle at the time.
On a 200 mile Drive My serpentine belt shredded causing my car too Overheat Ac to stop working and leaving me stranded
I was driving on the highway at a speed of 55MPH when a small rock hit my windshield. It was not a large rock, probably closer to a pebble. My Telluride’s front Windshield cracked immediately to a length of almost 20 inches long, horizontally.
Okay so, I noticed my windshield was cracked on my way home from work. It had been parked in front of my work and I live in a small town. I immediately notified Kia and asked for the pictures of my car before and after it left the service center because there are 3 visible chips on the lower passenger side of the windshield. Maybe not enough to notice had it not been for my windshield literally splitting. The Kia dealership I bought my car from 2 months ago told me it looked like a rock chipped my windshield. I don’t believe this is what happened, I think they set something on my car and chipped the windshield. Regardless the windshield crack has spread half way across my windshield in 24 hours. For arguments sake, If a rock had hit my windshield it shouldn’t crack completely in half. That’s literally insane. I’m beyond upset that my brand new $52,000 car already has to have the windshield be replaced. My biggest concern with this purchase was safety and I was assured that it was one of, if not the safest car on the market. It doesn’t seem safe to me that a small chip the size of a ballpoint pin cracked my whole windshield in half.
I was driving and a small pebble hit my windshield from a truck traveling in the opposite direction. The crack spidered out slightly. After 1 hour it traveled halfway across the windshield in my line of vision. I believe this is a defect with the Tellurides thin windshield glass as a normal car windshield that was hit by a small pebble could have been repaired instead of having to be replaced due to traveling through the window.
Windshield is a safety hazard, I have not had the car for 3 months and have already had to repair it due to it having multiple cracks and chips.
Small rock hit windshield on very edge, the initial impact only produced a chip not much larger than the tip of a ballpoint pen but within minutes a large crack has spread at least 18" across the windshield. Based on research online this is unfortunately a very common issue and has been going on since at least 2019 when the company acknowledged the issue with a "goodwill" customer service initiative to replace damaged windshields for this exact issue. Still waiting to hear from dealer on potential resolution.
I have a 2022 Telluride I purchased from the dealer in May/22 and after 3 months the windshield cracked starting from the bottom corner of driver side almost across the entire windshield. The crack happened while the car was parked in the garage overnight, I found later a small chip maybe caused by a pebble. I did some reasearch online and this same problem has been reported multiple times on Kia forums. I talked to the dealer and they said this is not covered by manufacturing warranty.
The forward collision-avoidance assist, FCA is the main component that failed on me numerous times before inevitably ending in a car accident. The car is currently with my insurance company StateFarm, to assess the damage and to see if it was a total loss or not. They have had it since the accident that occurred back on August 20, 2022. The car had multiple electrical issues that unfortunately were temperamental as to when they would happen so because of that I started to take video on my phone when ever they did happen to show the dealership of the malfunction when it happened so they could see with their own eyes that there was a problem. I attempted to have the dealership fix it but the GM nicely said, "if it doesn't happen with us then it then it didn't really happen and we don't care if you have video or not! That's our policy so sorry about your luck!!!" it was the FCA and the lane keeping assistance that were the 2 main parts that malfunctioned that risked my safety and the safety of others. The FCA is what malfunctioned during the accident. It would randomly slam on the brakes as if I was about to hit something and the lights would flash and the beeping would sound each time it did this even though there was nothing around me. The other times it had done this to me prior it would only happen 1 time and then it would go back to normal but the date of the accident it continued to malfunction over and over again. There were sensors broken on the car from the moment i drove it off the lot back in April of 2022 and have had replaced. The FCA had been malfunctioning Since early June and I first reported it to Kia back on June 22nd 2022. Kia just sent me a letter confirming the FCA does malfunction but its to late now! I have so much more to report but not enough space to tell you everything! They could of helped me when I showed them proof but they didn't care. Their negligence risked my life and my children's lives!!!
1. Speedometer displayed 0 mph on the display screen and odometer. It took 2 days for it to start working again. 2. Backup camera displayed a green screen with a error message for 4 hours.
The instrument panel that displays the mileage, and other things you can select with the mode such as tire pressure, fuel economy, range remaining on the tank of gas goes blank. The main instrument panel display randomly goes out from the moment it starts to the end of that drive, most of the time it works but some drives it's completely blank the entire time, rather you restart several times or not.
While driving at approximately 35 MPH, with no vehicles, pedestrians, lawnmowers, trees, road hazards, etc., near, the windshield spontaneously cracked near the passenger side pillar. The initial crack was circular with spider-webbing, the longest of which was approximately 6 inches (not exact due to being measured with a hand as reference). The vehicle was immediately parked, and upon return to the vehicle 1 hour and 45 minutes later, the spider-webbing had spread to approximately half the length of the windshield from the initial crack at the passenger side, to the driver side. My wife confirmed that there were no vehicles traveling the opposite direction, no pedestrians, overpasses, trees, vehicles, or other logical causes near the vehicle immediately following the initial crack. It seemed to occur spontaneously, my wife stated she heard what she could best describe as "the sound of glass cracking like in a horror movie" and observed the initial crack. Due to the rate of the spreading, and fear of further integrity failures, the vehicle is parked. I contacted Kia due to the 2020 good will letter concerning windshields, and was told this did not apply to the 2022 due to it not being the appropriate year, and would have to cover the replacement of the window out of pocket or through insurance. No warnings, no noise indicative of something striking the windshield, no damage to any other components including the paint, etc. It just seemingly cracked, the only reason I could deduce is due to the temperature today being approximately 85 degrees, and the vehicle was parked in the sunlight due to the parking not being shaded. Perhaps the exposure resulted in the initial failure and subsequent spider-webbing. This vehicle was purchased brand new on 12 June, 2022.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated while placing the tongue of the seat belt into the receiver, the driver’s side front seat belt assembly separated from the body of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the seat belt assembly was torqued to the manufacturer specs. The other seat belt assemblies were checked. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was 4,040.
Driver assistance causing car to slow down or come to a complete stop on freeway when another car cut in front of me. Also, slowed down when car approaching me getting in turning lane. It is not operating correctly can lead to someone hitting you!
Crack on the inside section of windshield. Top left corner sitting against the roof. Looks to be failure at install.
3 days after receipt of my brand new 2022 Kia telluride I noticed a crack in the top of my winshield. After inspecting there was no visible chip and it started right at the top of the glass. A month the crack took over almost my entire windshield. Disappointed in the quality is an understatement.
Windshield is cracked and only after 3 weeks of purchasing. The crack is in the top middle of the windshield and is spreading very rapidly across the passenger side. Very disappointing considering the price of the vehical!
On July 20th, 2020 while driving our 2022 KIA Telluride at freeway speeds with A/C operating we noticed a change in humidity in the cabin. Immediately looked at the engine temperature gauge and it appeared normal. A few minutes later checked engine temperature again and once more temperature looked normal. Shortly thereafter came to a stoplight and glanced at the instrument cluster and noticed the engine temperature needle was pegged to the far right side of the gauge - indicating a extremely hot engine - and a "Engine Overtemp" message appeared in the message portion of the instrument cluster. The alternator warning symbol was also lit. Immediately pulled off the road into a service station and shut down the engine. Upon opening the hood noticed that the electric fan was running and observed no coolant leaks. Contacted our KIA dealer and upon explaining the problem to their service manager was asked to check the serpentine drive belt. I did so, and found that the belt was shredded and wrapped around the AC compressor pulley. We arranged to have the vehicle towed 100 miles back to our Kia dealer while we arranged transportation for ourselves. At the time of this belt failure this vehicle had approximately 3,600 miles on the odometer. The failed serpentine belt is KIA PN 25212 3LAC0. It is now August 23, 2022 and a replacement belt has been on backorder since July 20, 2022 and the dealer can provide no information as to when the new belt will arrive. We have had no use of this vehicle since the incident occurred and it has been sitting at the dealership.
Display for the backup camera went blank. Has only happen once so far.
Vehicle was parked on level ground in the garage with the transmission in park. Parking brake was not set. I returned home in a different vehicle and checked the clearance on the garage door prior to closing it. It was at this point that I noticed that the garage door (which was previously closed) would not be able to close without hitting the Telluride. The Telluride was not driven, moved, touched or occupied during this brief period. Somewhere between opening the garage door and parking my other vehicle, the Telluride rolled back 1-2 feet. I tried pushing it and confirmed it wouldn't move, but it would have been impossible for the garage door to have opened or closed with the Telluride in the current position. As the garage was closed just before I opened it, and there were not any scratches on the Telluride or garage door, there is no explanation other than the Telluride rolled back. Since that incident, we have been setting the parking brake (manually). I understand the EV6 has a recall for a similar issue. Seems like the Telluride may have a similar problem.
Crack appeared in center of windshield after being parked in my driveway overnight. The crack is approximately one inch in diameter and circular.
I have experienced 3 windshield cracks within the visual field since purchasing the vehicle new. Each time the pebbles are small and the crack is requiring complete windshield replacements
We were driving down the freeway and the car overheated and power stopped. Turn our the drive belt was shredded and most of it missing. This was verified by the dealership once it was taken to them. This is a known problem through the community who owns these cars.
Exploding Sunroof At approx. 6:45am on July 29th, while driving on highway with no other cars in sight the Sunroof exploded. Sunshade was closed therefore glass did not fall onto us while we were driving. The sound was extremely load, we heard a load pop and then the shattering of glass. We all jumped inside the vehicle but thankfully no cars were in sight around us as we did swerve. We were approx. 2 miles from the dealer's exit so we drove directly to the dealer. Manufacture is not taking any responsibility as they say it was due to impact but there was absolutely nothing that hit our car. No other vehicles around or debris on highway.
I was the first car in line stopped at a traffic light - no vehicles in front of me - and I heard a loud pop. Immediately, I noticed a curved crack in the upper center of the windshield that wrapped below the rear view mirror area. There was no impact to the glass at the time - the windshield just simply popped for seemingly no reason whatsoever. This has been an issue on 2020 and 2021 Kia Tellurides, and Kia has been aware of this issue for a while, blaming it on a "windshield bonding problem" at the factory.
I was driving on the interstate and my sunroof just exploded, nothing hit it.
Purchased a brand new 2022 Kia Telluride. After less than 5K miles, engine overheated and I had to stop the car in order to let the engine cool down. The coolant level was fine, I did not see any leaks, and I did not notice an smoke from the engine compartment. After 30min of letting the car cool down, I started the car and checked to make sure the radiator fan was working - and it was working fine. The car's temperature gauge showed normal temp. I turned on the heater full blast as I drove home, just in case. Temperature remained normal. I am unsure why the engine temperature reached critical levels causing the warning and beeping from the car's computer. I am still looking for a dealership to schedule diagnostic of the car to figure out the problem. All Kia dealerships are booked until Nov 2022!
Instrument cluster goes blank. “Data error” message displays. Speedometer stops working. Fuel gauge goes to “empty”. Compass displays the opposite of what is true (says I’m going north when actually traveling south). Warning message (voice and display on map) giving me a dangerous warning that I’m traveling north while in a southbound lane. No speedometer puts me and others at risk. Problem has been reproduced at dealership on 7/20/2022. No prior symptoms or warning lights when problem first occurred with 300 miles on the odometer. Created a case number with KIA on 6/23/2022 (14889564). This problem seems very similar if not exactly like NHTSA campaign number 22V344000 and KIA recall number SC237. KIA seems to be dragging their feet in fixing this dangerous problem. It’s been very difficult getting any answers on when they will fix the problem. I could use your help. This issue has occurred 9 times in 8 weeks.
Front windshield developed hairline crack on lower driver side. Crack measures approximately 12 inches in length. No evidence of any impact. Crack noticed by owner at roughly 7AM CDT on Tuesday, Jul 5, 2022. Vehicle had been driven the previous evening by same driver. At that time no crack was noted. Vehicle was garaged overnight. As previously stated, there are no signs of impact or other abnormal stress to the windshield. Vehicle purchased new in July 2021. Dealer to inspect week of July 25, 2022.
I was hit on the front driver side of my car by someone who flew through a red light. The impact was so hard that my head slammed against the driver side window and shattered the glass. No airbags in my car deployed. The other drivers airbag deployed. I had to crawl out of the passenger side door because her car was slammed into mine. I sustained a concussion and injury to my arm from the impact. I’m 5’10” and was wearing a seatbelt
Small rock hit windshield which caused the windshield to crack. Never seen a windshield crack so easily.
We have had the vehicle for less than a year and the windshield has already broken twice from very small/light pebbles. The star caused by the most recent one was so small we didn't even hear it and has now spread to a 30"+ crack across windshield. We learned through researching that the windshields on these cars are becoming notorious for easy breakage and we do not feel safe having such a weak windshield.I have been driving for 18 years and have only ever once before had a windshield need replacement. The crack is so large I am afraid the glass will fall through while driving and it distorts the view. Should not have to keep replacing the windshield for every grain of sand that strikes it!
Windshield crack developed 6 inches above from bottom from drive side when driving on highway after 2 hours of drive. No one near my vehicle and not related to any Collison. Crack increased from 3 inch to half of the screen on parked car. Not inspected by police or insurance company as of now. Went to dealer in Norwood, MA and person at dealership reviewed and confirmed it happed without any specific external hit.
Windshield cracking on a brand new 2022 telluride. This could cause severe issues at high speeds.
Cracked windshield developed within hours and it was sitting in the driveway. I have not had this vehicle for more than 30 days only to find out this is a MAJOR issue I have to jump through hoops to fix. I was sold Ownershield (and sent them photos for review) and was told when sold that product that I could get the KIA windsheild replaced with KIA parts (they knew this would happen). But today I was informed by Ownershield that if I were to use Safelite my claim may not be covered...what a SCAM! It is like a sideways J, right in the middle of the windshield so it is messing with my visibility and is unsafe. No warning of anykind given even after starting up the car. KIA needs accountability on fixing these issues especially with theybare tacking on additional fees for 'shortages'.
My 13 year old son went to smack a bug off the windshield in the inside and it shattered.
I brought my 2022 Kia Telluride with only 12 miles on it in February 12, 2022. Less than 4 months old and only 4177 miles and my transmission has gone out. The dealership I bought has had it for 20 days now. I am told my vehicle is not safe to drive so it has to at the dealership. I have contacted Kia Customer Service they are advising me that the transmission is on back order and not ETA for it.
Upon starting my vehicle morning of 6/16/22 the LCD CLUSTER DISPLAY showed “system check” with the scan of the picture of the SUV then screen went to black. I attempted to restart the vehicle and it did the same thing. I took the vehicle directly to dealer and rep saw the blank display. In addition apple car play stopped working. On 6/20 rep informed me that everything was working and tech was unable to duplicate the problem. There’s obviously something faulty with the vehicle. The car has less than 5500 miles and dealer said since they were unable to duplicate the problem there’s nothing to repair but if it happens again to take it back in. This issue prevents me from being able to see odometer and if I have to wait for a tech to get around to looking at it I risk the chance of the problem temporarily fixing itself before the tech looks at it.
Driver’s (left front) Seatbelt Tongue is sometimes difficult to fully insert into the Seatbelt Buckle. Even worse, sometimes it appears to be inserted, but it is not fully engaged/locked. I’ve inspected buckle and there does not appear to be any debris. Fully pressing the release button on the buckle BEFORE inserting the tongue seems to alleviate the issue. Next time I bring car to dealer, I will have them inspect/diagnose/replace.
Windshield. Windshield was chipped by a flying rock or piece of debris on the right side just at the edge on February 14, 2022. Within one to two weeks a crack had formed and went two-thirds of the way across the windshield in the view of the driver. Windshield was repaired on March 31, 2022. On April 13, 2022, less than two weeks from the replacement, a flying rock hit the windshield and caused a chip at the very bottom of the middle of the windshield. Within two weeks the chip had formed a crack and went half way up the windshield, turned, and went almost all the way across the passenger side of the windshield - in the view of the passenger. it appears many Kia owners have had the same issue with small chips causing extreme cracks in the windshield which resulted in having to replace the windshields numerous times.
Sunroof exploded
Completely random windshield crack with unknown cause. Doesn't appear to be from impact, discovered after vehicle had been sitting undisturbed in private driveway, no wear near other persons, vehicles, or poor weather.
Purchased 2022 Telluride Nightfall EX end of August and at the beginning of March and within about 6000 miles a small rock kicked up from a car caused a chip which spread to a large crack the next day. Dealership would not replace due to chip that wasn’t even visible as it was in lower passenger corner of black area. Glad I purchased all the extra coverages offered by the dealer and paid more than MSRP due to an unsolicited dealer fee!
Instrument panel is not functioning, vehicle is currently at service center waiting for replacement part to determine if this will correct all issues which includes gear shift light indicator not working, voice command stating “turn around you are entering the wrong way” randomly while driving and the instrument panel. Initially the instrument panel screen would alternate between working fine to intermittently being partly or fully snowy before it would go completely dark. This pattern continued until mid May when it went completely dark and has stayed this way. Although there is no recall at this time on my specific vehicle I’m concerned that this ongoing issue could potentially caused me harm while driving.
While driving the car, the speedometer on the car read 0, the entire drive. It would not register how fast or slow I was going. I tried turning off the car and turned it back on, it continued to not read my speed. I have video of the entire incident, but it looks like I can't download video to this site.
Windshield has a long crack with nothing impacting the glass
After taking my car back to the dealership and speaking to KIA USA about my instrument panel going blank randomly, now my blinker arrow lights have stopped working randomly. This is a safety issue even more than the instrument panel because my blinker can be on without me being aware, which could lead to another car pulling out in front of me if they assume I am turning. I was driving for a while today before I realized that my blinker panel lights had turned off and I had been driving with the blinker on. This occurrence has happened twice now within the last week.
Sunroof, available for inspection but scheduled for repair. Sunroof exploded spontaneously, no vehicle in front and no foreign object found that could have caused explosion damage. I calmly move vehicle off road into parking lot. Explosion was so loud that someone else could have reacted differently and caused an accident. I've read and heard of other incidents where people report the same situation. Insurance has been active in resolving this incident. I've also contacted the Kia dealership and Kia USA. No warning was given before this happened. I do not have at this time have an insurance claim number, response from manufacturer or repair invoice.
Was traveling on the interstate when a small pebble hit my windshield creating half dollar size shatter. This car is only 4 months old and I was only traveling about 35 mph at the time and do not feel the impact should have been sufficient to create this type of shattering.
Outside Temperature: 72 degrees PHILADELPHIA, PA No other traffic around. The sunroof seems to have just exploded in the center and the environmental conditions were just fine. There was no road debris and or other traffic around to cause such. The damage fortunately did not injure anybody in the car.
Windshield is so thin. I have 2 cracks within 2 months. One is right in my line of vision. Dealership won’t fix it even though I’m reading this is a common problem.
I have owned this vehicle since July 2021. In that time I have had to have two different windshields put in due to large unexpected cracks.
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason. Vehicle is 2 months old
I've had the car for less than 6 months, and have been driving in typical situations that are not any different than how I have been driving other cars (regular driver) for over 20 years. I have 3 separate chips in the front windshield from pebbles or unknown causes. One has extended cracks. I've never had a chip in a windshield on another car before this, let alone 3 within the space of a few months.
Windshield Cracked from passenger side to driver side. There were no cars or vehicles in front of me.
Windshield hit with small pebble and Crack immediately across Windshield never have had happen so easily. Seems to be default in Windshield
I have owned this car for two months. Today, I noticed a crack in my windshield. I haven't had anything hit my windshield. I've contacted Kia and am awaiting a call back, but I see online where there are many more complaints about the glass being faulty and cracking for little or no reason.
Front windshield small crack completely spread across entire windshield.
The windshield has chipped and shattered three times in the less than 6 months I have owned it. All times, I was driving at or below the speed limit. A pebble sized rock shattered the windshield and the other two times, it wasn’t even noticeably hit, it just cracked. A windshield that is this fragile is not safe in a brand new vehicle.
Purchased vehicle on 2/18/22 and within two weeks, windshield easily cracked with a small rock/pebble kick up in the snow. Several small chips (at least 100) in the windshield causing low visibility in a car that we've only had for 2 months. Several groups of telluride owners report the same problem on 2020-2022 models but Kia is not acknowledging the issue in the 2021/2022 models. Trying to get Kia consumer affairs to show me a statement that proves that Kia has upgraded their 2020 windshield glass (which has been recalled / a part of a class action lawsuit).
I don’t think the windshield is strong enough and it makes me scared to drive in the highways. I’ve had for less than 4 months and a small rock left a big crack after going 50mph. Already had another small chip since then. These are made terribly and have had other owners tell me the same.
Small rock struck windshield causing it to develop at 10-12” crack. The vehicle has less than 100 miles on it.
I was driving down hwy 25 no vehicles around us and when all of of a sudden our vehicles windshield literally just started cracking across the front, nothing hit our windshield, the incident happened on 04/11/2022.
2022 Telluride is undriveable due to safety alarms/warnings. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was purchased (Findlay Kia). It's been 19 days and they have not been unable to find the cause and correct the safety alarms/warnings. After Driving on highway noticed a 6” vertical crack in the middle of the windshield . Never noticed anything hitting windshield
I have owned my kia teuride for about 7 months and in those months I have had to bring the car to the dealer 3 separate times for a vibration problem. For each time car was in service for a few weeks. First was told I needed tires balanced and they balanced. 2nd time was told I needed a new driveshaft and they replaced. 3rd time wad told I needed a new awd coupler and it was replaced. I am a disabled father of 3 kids and cannot go back and forth to the dealer all the time when they tell me I can't have a rental car or loaner and then strand me at the dealer 14 miles away from my house. There has to be a better way to help people cause it seems that kia consumer affairs is not even helping
DRIVING 2022 TELLURIDE ON HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVE. FORWARD COLLISION WARNING ACTIVATED, INITIATED THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, WITHOUT ANY OBJECTS OR TRAFFIC AROUND. THE ACTIVATION WAS UNEXPECTED, WITHOUT ANY INDICATION OF REASON, SO MUCH SO I INSTINCTIVELY PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD WAY AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND FRONT BUMPER. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, AND HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP AND WAS SCHEDULED TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. UNFORTUNATELY, THE SUDDEN PLUNGE OFF THE ROAD WAY ENDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN A SEVERE ANGLED DITCH AND I RAN OVER A METAL POST OR SOME OTHER OBJECTS IN THE DITCH WAY AND NOW THE VEHICLE IS INOPERABLE.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHEN THE TELLURIDE CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVE, THE FORWARD COLLISION WARNING WILL ACTIVATE THE AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM, WITHOUT ANY OBJECTS IN THE ROAD. WHEN TAKING THE VEHICLE TO ITS FIRST OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED (2.15.2022). THE SECOND TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY A WEEK LATER. THE THIRD THIS PAST WEEK (3.18.2022) EACH TIME IT OCCURRED, IT WOULD ALARM, BREAK, AND RETURN TO CRUISE SPEED OVER AND OVER UNTIL THE CRUISE WAS DISABLED. APPOINTMENT FOR WARRANTY CHECK SET FOR (3.23.2022) KIA WAS INFORMED, CUSTOMER REP SAID TO TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP WITH NO OTHER EXPLANATION OR HELP.
STARTED TELLURIDE AND PUT IN REVERSE, INSTEAD OF MY BACK-UP CAMERA COMING ON, THE LCD SCREEN BEGAN BLICKING FROM BLANK SCREEN TO HOME SCREEN TO BLANK SCREEN. I BACKED UP A COUPLE FEET AND THE CAMERA CAME ON, THEN IT BEGAN BLINKING AGAIN.
Brand new vehicle with 14 miles on it. Drove an hour home from the dealership. There's an issue with the transmission. Transmission will slip / skip gears while both accelerating and braking. Verified in all drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, Auto). Burning smell coming from vehicle. Buzzing noise coming from engine bay. Our safety was put at risk because when it shifts gears suddenly the car leaps forward, can even happen during turns. Vehicle has not been inspected by dealership yet as it's about an hour away and we do not feel safe driving the vehicle. No warning lights have appeared. Read others with similar transmission issues needing to be resolved.
We had a rock hit our windshield and a crack happened. I know this is possible, but of all the cars I’ve driven in my 25 years of driving this has never happened with a simple rock hit. I am in a group for Telluride owners on Facebook. This is a fairly common complaint that is made by owners. I was in a Tiguan group prior to trading that in and never once saw a post for rocks causing cracks. Kia is clearly not using the best glass. This can be very dangerous.
After parking, I tryed to retrieve an item that fell between the console and the right side of the Driver's seat . To my horror my arm got stuck. There was nothing I could do and since I am a nurse realized that time was of the essence so I would not lose circulation to my dominant hand. I was able to retrieve my cell phone with my left hand and call 911. It took 3 EMTs to extricate my arm from this terrible design. I currently sustain a bad contussion. During the emergency, my husband also confessed to have gotten his arm stuck with resulting scrapes, bruising and bleeding and our daughter who is a Medical Doctor who borrowed this car also got her arm stuck. This console is too big and too dangerous.
The contact's wife owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated while his wife was reversing, the instrument panel became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that as his wife turned off and restarted the vehicle, the instrument panel lights illuminated; however, the failure returned after a while. The contact stated that the failure had been occurring intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that no issues were found. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that they could not repair the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V577000 (Electrical System) since the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,200.
Sunroof spontaneously exploded while driving on the highway at around 65 mph. Fortunately, the shade underneath it was closed so the glass did not get in my car and fortunately, my children were not with me.
Sunroof exploded while driving at 65 miles per hour on I 65 Interstate. We heard an extremely large explosive type sound and saw that the sunroof cover was retracting. Small pieces of glass and rain began falling into the vehicle. It was determined later, that most of the glass was blown outside. It is unknown if the glass pieces made contact with any vehicles behind us. KIA roadside assistance was automatically activated and we requested the address of the nearest KIA dealership. We drove approximately 10 miles to a KIA dealership who placed “crash film” over the gaping hole. The sunroof had been closed before this incident. There were no warning lamps/messages prior to the sunroof exploding.
Purchased on February 10, 2022 after driving a week windshield cracked, traveling at 40mph on city street.
Purchased 2022 Telluride SX on 02/14/2022. Today(2/19/2022) noticed a chip/crack on windshield in driver sight. I believe chip/crack happened for no reason. Crack is in drivers sight and it will be a safety concern.
The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that the rear backup camera would intermittently remain in operation while in the drive which caused a distraction to her while driving at various speeds. The contact also mentioned that other electrical delays would occur with the infotainment screen. The contact stated that her vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V577000 (Electrical System) and that upon arrival to the dealer; she mentioned the failure to the dealer. The dealer informed her that the recall would repair the failure; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 0.
While driving I noticed my windshield cracking from the lower drivers side. The crack has grown bigger. Nothing hit the windshield to cause it to start cracking
The car is one week old and developed a crack in the windshield overnight in mild weather. The crack is over two feet long and growing.
Windshield keeps getting chips and cracks
My new AWD 2022 Kia Telluride vibration/ humming at 65 mph and above from day 1. It’s been in service 5 times and they are not able to fix the problem. The dealership we bought it from didn’t even admit there is a problem so we had to take it to another dealership which actually admitted there is a problem. They just changed the drive shaft and rear differential and the problem is still there . It’s been in service longer than it’s been with me. Very frustrating.
Windshield easily cracked with a small small kick up in snow. Several small chips in the windshield for low visibility in a car with less than 1500miles on it. Several groups of telluride owners report the same problem on 2020-2022 models
Windshield broke by itself
Unable to put the seatbelt latch in the buckle with a booster seat in place.
Windshield already has a 'rock chip' on the driver's side. We've only had our 22 telluride for 1 week and only has 200 miles.
The windshield has cracked on my new vehicle with 3,000 miles. I have investigated this and it seems to be a common problem with this make and model.
I got a Brand New 2022 Kia Telluride. Same day a rock or a piece of debris hit my windshield it was around 3:30 PM, while I was in the last lane to take my exit, so I was going at a very low speed. The impact was not that loud but caused a crack in the windshield, it quickly continue to expand by the time I got home the crack was several inches wide. It is concerning to me that at such low speed the windshield would crack, my previous vehicles had been hit before but never cracked.
The door locks on the car will start cycling locked/unlocked very rapidly. Sometimes in only last 10-15 seconds, other times it will not stop until I manually click the lock or unlock button. It does this when it is parked and it does this when the vehicle is in motion. I do have a video on my phone of this. Kia is being of no assistance in getting this resolved. Online there are multiple reports of the exact same scenario and everybody is reporting Kia is not fixing the issue.
Had car 5 days. Heard pebble hit windshield - immediate crack - windshield is in terrible shape. No way this should happen, just cracked immediately
I just recently bought a 2022 Kia Telluride 7 days ago and while driving on the freeway the windshield shattered in the lower corner of driver side. There was no car in front of me (not a close distance) or near me for that matter and there was no overpass for a rock to have fallen from. My windshield shattered and glass landed in my face, eyes, and mouth, and all over the inside of my car. Luckily I was able to maintain some control as there were no other vehicles in close proximity. I’ve had rocks hit my windshield before but never to the point of causing this kind of damage. There have been recalls on previous Kia Telluride model and others with 2022 models have been experiencing this issue as well. This is ridiculous and of course the windshield is on back order and KIA expects me to continue driving around with my windshield like this because they don’t know when they’ll have a windshield available. At the dealership they were adamant that a rock hit the windshield however, myself and the passenger did not see a rock and the level of damage that occurred should not have been this high which is concerning as well. There is no way it is safe for me to continue driving like this especially when KIA doesn’t even have an estimated date for me to get this repaired.
This 2022 Telluride EX was purchased on 7/10 and has about 1015 miles. While driving in a 35 mph zone beside a shopping center, I heard a click and then noticed that I had a chip in the windshield directly in front of the driver side. I never saw a rock or anything hit the windshield and there were no cars in front of me or passing me at the time so I don't believe a rock hit the windshield. I am not exactly positive what happened during this low speed incident but I have never had this with any previous vehicle I have owned. I believe there is a safety issue with the glass on this windshield if it can chip or crack this easily.
Bought a new 2022 Kia telluride July 26, 2021. on July 27 the LCD instrument cluster went black. I only had the car one day. Came back from the store started the car and it worked. A new car should not have this problem. In the Kia forums many have also had this same problem.
Day 1 of ownership of brand new vehicle. At less than 100 miles on odometer, the center part of the instrument panel goes completely black and does not display pertinent driving information, potentially information necessary for safety purposes. Problem is intermittent. Dealer is unable to fix and unable to determine cause of problem.
Instrument panel located between the speedometer and tachometer which shows information such as MPH, tire pressure, miles remaining, etc. intermittently goes blank. When you start the car, it shows a system check then goes blank. This does not happen every time but it happens frequently (once per day). If you shut the car off and open the door, it usually fixes the issue the next time you start the car. This issue began the day after I purchased the car new.
12 hours after departing the dealership with my new car the windshield cracked. I was driving on the freeway and a small pebble size object hit the windshield. Immediately there was a crack and within hours it spread. The object was very tiny. The impact of the object was not strong since I actually assumed it was bird dropping that hit the car. I contacted the dealership and was informed no replacement is available at this time because the car is so new. It is also not under warranty. They have no estimated time as to when I can replace it. I am worried about the safety of my family as the crack continues to spread impacting my visibility. I am concerned it will shatter causing harm to passengers. This problem has been reported by consumers of 2020 model Tellurides and two models later it appears the issue continues with the 2022s.
UNKNOWN: LCD Cluster Instrument Display went black after purchasing the car for 1 day.
Center cluster screen on dash is not turning on with vehicle. It is as safety concern as none of my safety alerts are working. Lane assist, emergency braking, cruise, etc. I have reported to Kia America and have not heard back.
Dash screen randomly goes blank.
I just purchased my car on 7/15/21. While driving today my lcd screen on the dashboard goes black after the system check. I can not see any function on my vehicle ie, miles…system setting, fuel etc. this screen is a necessity to Operate this vehicle. While looking online many telluride customers are experiencing the same issue and there has been no remediation from Kia
The component is called the information cluster which sits between the odometer and the speedometer. It was been inspected and they flashed the firmware but the problem continues to persist. With out the I can not view my mileage I can’t turn on safer features like the alert if a child is left in the back seat etc. I called back to report it still wasn’t working and was told their engineers are working on it. The car is only a week old with I’m not sure how many miles maybe 250 miles but there was zero warning it wasn’t going to work, it just started
The LCD display in the instrument cluster that gives information about many ADAS features stays Off. The screen just remains blank on most starts. Restarting after opening and closing the doors helps some times to bring the display back. But since there is no feedback about many ADAS features because of no display, it is indeed a safety issue.
LCD instrument cluster display does not always appear when starting vehicle. This is used to provide a display of the digital speedometer,, fuel economy, and options to enable various driving vehicle warning messages and driver assistance settings.
The instrumentation screen in front of the drivers wheel goes out all black periodically on some startups. With it black, cannot tell what MPH / Gear / distance to empty / drivers mode, and none of the advanced drivers assist features work. One time it happened while on cruise control and just kept accelerating as if it didn't know what speed I was going. 2022 kia telluride. Many others same issue in the forums I'm in.
screen in cluster randomly does not turn on, missing critical information while driving the vehicle.
The instrumentation cluster screen goes black about 50% of time vehicle is turned on.

Complaint & Reliability Timeline
Annual complaints (blue) vs. composite reliability score (amber) — recall years marked in red
The blue line shows 305 total NHTSA complaints filed over 6 years, with the worst year being 2022 (96 complaints, including 3 crash reports).
The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 80/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.
The red dashed line marks recall issuance — the first recall came 3 years after owners began filing complaints, a lag that indicates the manufacturer was slow to formally acknowledge these problems.
Red dots on the amber line flag 4 years (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
