I have a 2007 Honda Pilot. While just taking off again from a stoplight, the passenger side, "curtain-side" airbags randomly deployed. The airbag light had been flickering on and off - it would then be on for a few moments, and turn back off, flicker again, and remain off, for about a day and a half, two days prior to this happening. There was no collision. There was no pothole. There was no harsh breaking or takeoff. There was no agitation to the vehicle to demand this deploy. It happened out of nowhere and for no reason. I have called my insurance company to total out the vehicle as the repairs will cost more than the vehicle is worth. I am waiting for a call back, though they were extremely hesitant and said that they most likely will not cover because there was no collision. The Pilot was in perfect working condition prior to this event. I had my 12 year old dog in the backseat at the time, who was laying with his head next to the back passenger door. He hasn't been acting normal since the incident. He's been acting subdued and despondent ever since. He nosed my arm during the seven minute ride back to the house, after the airbags randomly deployed. I didn't want him in the front seat, as I was afraid that the passenger dash airbag would also randomly deploy. I had to put my seat further back and hold my head against the head rest as I was also afraid of the steering wheel airbag randomly deploying before I got home as well. After it happened, I immediately rolled the windows down due to the chemical smell, and stayed in the right lane in case I had to quickly pull over. Which is no way to safely drive. I have not driven it since. Since the passenger side window was covered with an airbag I was "blind" on that side for the rest of the drive home. I stayed in the right hand lane, and luckily the only left turn I had to make was at a light with a left turn signal and light. After the airbag deployed the airbag light remained on for the rest of the ride home.

The 2007 Honda Pilots rear subframe suspension mounting points and the driver side rear sping and shock support rusted away so bad that the driver side wheel collapsed, fortunately it was discovered just in time before there was an major accident, had this happened at full highway speeds it would have been a disaster, this unfortunately seems to be a common problem on the 2003-2008 Honda Pilots according to online forums. Everything else on the Pilot was working great at the time, was quoted $5000 to fix from a local body shop which is way too much so the vehical needed to be sent to the salvage yard at a great financial loss. Like most people I did not think to look under the vehical when I purchased it used in 2022, everything seemed solid, just had a rusty look like a lot of older MN vehicals so it gave a false sence of safety, I feel that the 2003 to 2008 Honda Pilot needs to be recalled or provide a manufacturer buyback and taken off the roads ASAP if they are in any of the salt belt states.

My airbags have been recalled. This is an American (MPH on the dashboard) car and Honda Canada said they cannot fix it here. I will have to drive to America to fix it.

Lamont was contacted on multiple times through calls/text msgs, and voice mails and as of today none of my calls were answered. Lamont then blocked my number and continued to avoid me and the car situation he put me through. I've been trying to reach him every day since the last time he gave me the vehicles documents. I am filing this report to the best of my knowledge with the information he gave me for the vehicle. Dealer sold me a lemon car with broken and rotten parts on the car. Dealer never stated the car was messed up or needed the major work it needs now. Dealer at one point took the car to go get inspected at a shop located on 705 Jefferson Ave , "and hour later he came back with the car and parked it. I called the dealer back multiple times and sent msgs to the dealer regarding the vehicle dealer then blocked my number and the mechanics phone I used to call him after he blocked my number. As of now I am trying to figure out a way to get this car fix and filing a complaint report against this dealer to at lease get justices from this dealer and for him to get his business SHUT DOWN due to selling people as in myself broken lemon cars.

In mid 2023 while driving I excellerated and the driver seat fell backwards and to the right about 5 inches. I pulled over and discovered something under the left hand front side of driver seat had broke. I had a box and other stuff in the trunk and put it in the backseat to prop it up while I drove home. Discilovered a week later the side bracket had broke. And it was a part riveted onto the main seat. I had it welded but didn't trust the weld alone. I started fabrication of a bracket overlay (Honda wanted a fortune for the one part). After months of it being parked over the winter I bought another 2007 Honda Pilot for parts. Sad that Hondas quality has declined. Very dangerous, and the same thing had happened to a lot of other owners. Not something that should happen at any mileage. Ours had about 176k on it.

While driving with six on board (car holds up to 8) I hit a moderate bump. The car made a loud bang, and felt unstable. At the same time, ABS, VTM-4, and stabilty warning lights came on. I was in a construction zone with no place to stop, so I kept going. The instabilty seemed manageable, so I kept going to an exit. On the ramp, while cornering even slightly, there was a rubbing sound from the rear wheel area. In a straight line, it sounded okay, but didn't feel right. When we were able to park and get out, the rear wheels were splayed out (extreme negative camber) as if the car was grossly overloaded, even though if was empty. Upon inspection, I found that the two rear mounts for the subframe had completely pulled out of the unibody. The subframe had rusted from the inside, so there was no appearance of structurally significant rust until it failed. When the suspension subframe pulled away, it pulled apart the wiring for the ABS, etc. This is a very unsafe condition that appeared with no warning. A quick internet search shows that it's also quite common.

THE MECHANIC CONTACTED THE CLOSEST HONDA DEALER (APPROXIMATELY 70MILES AWAY) WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RAPAIRED BY THE MECHANIC AND NOT DRIVEN TO THE DEALER DUE TO THE LIKELIHOOD OF F ULL BRAKE LOCK UP OR FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. THEY STATED THAT THE PART ORDERED FOR ME BACK IN MAY 2015 HAD NOT YET BEEN RECEIVED AND ASKED ME TO CALL BACK IN ANOTHER WEEK TO CHECK ON IT. THE DEALER TOLD US THE 2 STEERING BOLTS WERE SHEARED OFF. THEY DO NOT KNOW THE CAUSE. THEY NOTE: THE BOLTS ARE NOT VISIBLE DURING INSPECTIONS. THE STEERING AND SUBFRAME MUST BE REPLACED. THE VSA ETC. THIS FIRE BURNT UP ALL THE WIRING FOR SEVERAL FEET AND DISABLED THE A/C, FRONT LIGHTS AND AIR BAG SYSTEMS. IF WE HAD NOT CAUGHT THIS ISSUE WHEN WE DID, THE ENGINE COULD HAVE HAD A FIRE EVEN WHEN NOT DRIVING (I.E. IN THE GARAGE AT NIGHT). OUR REPAIRMAN ALSO REMARKED THAT THE AIRBAGS COULD HAVE DEPLOYED AT ANYTIME WHEN ON THE ROAD. OBVIOUSLY SERIOUS INJURY COULD HAVE OCCURRED! I HAD TAKEN MY 2007 HONDA PILOT EX 4WD TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THE A/C UNIT LOOKED AT BECAUSE MY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WAS BLOWING HOT AIR. THE HONDA SERVICE TECHNICIAN HAD CALLED ME BACK A FEW HOURS LATER TO REPORT A HOLE ON MY CONDENSER THAT WAS NOT REPAIRABLE AND REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR BY HONDA IS APPARENTLY NOT COVERED UNDER HONDA CARE WARRANTY. ON THE HONDA CARE WEBSITE, IT CLEARLY SHOWS THAT THE CONDENSER IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY REPAIR. THERE IS NO "FINE PRINT" INDICATING OTHERWISE. HONDA CLAIMS THAT THE DAMAGE WAS DUE TO A "FOREIGN OBJECT" LIKE A ROCK OR PEBBLE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FRONT GRILL IS AN OPEN DESIGN THAT EXPOSES THE RADIATOR AND A/C CONDENSER UNIT. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THERE IS THE STRONG POSSIBILITY THAT ANY "FOREIGN OBJECT" CAN HIT THAT ARE. HONDA HAD QUOTED ME AT $700+ DOLLARS ON THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS THAT THE REPAIR COST MUST FALL ON THE CONSUMER TO PAY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES ON A REPAIR THAT IS CLEARLY NOT AT FAULT OF ANY DRIVER AND IS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW ON THE VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. ALTHOUGH, THE GAUGES DID NOT INDICATE OVERHEATING AND I DID NOT OBSERVE ANTIFREEZE COOLANT LEAKING, THE ODOR WAS BECOMING EXTREMELY STRONG. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SO I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A BIG O TIRE STORE TO INSPECT THE COOLANT SYSTEM. IT WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED AS A CORE ENGINE HEATER PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AFTER DISASSEMBLING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A HOSE LEADING TO THE REAR AC/HEATING SYSTEM WAS LEAKING. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, THE FACTORY PLACED THE CLAMP OVER THE HOSE AND NOT OVER THE NOZZLE. THIS DIRECTLY LED TO THE PUNCTURE OF THE HOSE AND SUBSEQUENT LEAKAGE OF ANTIFREEZE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FLOORING OF MY VEHICLE. A REQUEST TO AMERICAN HONDA TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR WAS DISMISSED SINCE I DID NOT BRING MY VEHICLE INTO A HONDA DEALER.
