Ever since taking delivery of my vehicle, we notice a strong machinery/oily smell lingering on ourselves (clothes/hair) and our children’s car seats and strollers that are in the vehicle when it is warm outside and the ac is being used. Additionally, since taking delivery of the vehicle, I started experiencing health issues which worsened in the warmer weather when we were using the AC more. The biggest symptom is severe skin rashes which we realized are in the areas that the air vents blow on me/where they hit the steering wheel and I touch the steering wheel. In order to manage my symptoms I needed to start biologic injectables and even with them the rash was still lingering. I was documenting the rash for my doctors and we recently realized that my symptoms align with owning the van. I believe vapors are entering the cabin through the HVAC system in the car. The smell that lingers on us/our things is specific only to this vehicle, and we did not experience it with my previous vehicle, which was a 2023 odyssey touring, or my husbands 2024 Honda prologue, or the loaners that the dealer has had us in that are also all Hondas. The vehicle has been with the dealer in the service department currently for about 55 consecutive days as they continue to look into the issue. Eventually during this period they agreed to replace the evaporator core—Honda did not approve it through the warranty, but the service manager was at a loss on what else it could be causing it. At this point the repair is still not complete and I am unsure if that is truly the solve. I truly believe this is a defect of the vehicle causing vapors to enter the cabin and cause my health issues because in this time of not being in the van for an extended amount of time my skin issues have cleared up fully, even without the use of biologics. I also wanted to note I never had these skin issues before having this vehicle, they started 2 weeks after purchase and resolved within weeks of being out of it.

When on a stop either stoplight or stopsign the vehicle will completely shutoff. I will need to manually start the car

I was driving on a road around 30 mph when the engine cut off and shifted itself into park. No warning, no power, no movement. Car was dead in the road and I was unable to move it to the curb. I tried to press the drive button. Nothing. i pressed the starter button. Nothing. Parkway Honda said they could find nothing wrong other than replacing the battery. Car is brand new. Bought used at 6,000 miles and have only driven it 4,000 additional miles in roughly one year. Very dangerous defect for which they have no explanation.

Internal starter failure.

The transmission slips and misses constantly, ive taken it to the dealership repeatedly they say they feel it then they dont, its getting progressively worse

The contact stated that on four occasions while stopped at an intersection with the engine idling, the idle stop feature activated, and the vehicle unexpectedly shut off. The mechanic was able to restart the vehicle. There were other drivers behind the vehicle who started honking their horns. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the battery and starter needed to be repaired. The battery was replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

When the van is turned off it does not want to start easily again. This has now happened approximatly 5 times. I had the battery checked at O'reilly's and the battery was fine but the starter was not.

Idle stop and restart problem: After stopping , the engine shut off and won't be able to restart. Happened multiple times even after the Honda services department re-programmed it.

Auto idle system shuts down and stalled vehicle on intersections twice. Had battery replaced. Continued. Replaced starter (around 15,000 miles) Now at 34,000 miles it is starting to do it all over again. Stalled at intersection, battery sluggish. I turn off the auto idle system as soon as I start the car, but cannot remember to do so every time. Extreme safety issue where I live in major stop and go traffic with multiple children in my vehicle at all times. They are currently checking battery and starter again. No codes ever came on to indicate issues. Vehicle just stopped when auto idle engaged.

The vehicles auto start/stop system has failed to restart the vehicle at stop lights multiple times, requiring a full system reset. At least 2 of those times it has failed and would not restart with a the button press reset.

This is at lesat the second time that our Odessey has failed to restart at an interesction following the start-stop system turning off the engine the when stopped at a red light. After a couple of moments of trying to restart, it started again.

My 2025 Honda Oddessy with only about 31,000 has stalled in the last 2-3 months about 5 times at stop signs/stop lights. It throws itself in park and doesn't recognize that I'm pushing any buttons. On the dash it only says "press the brake" which I am doing. I called Victory City Honda in Michigan City, IN [XXX]) and arranged a diagnostics check on XXX. They said it wasn't throwing codes and didn't replicate when they test drove the vehicle. If I turn off the auto start/stop it doesn't seem to happen but if I forget to push this button each and every drive - it stalls and won't start for up to 10 minutes. Once we were parking at home and it would not allow us to shut the vehicle off. Upon research I found NHTSA investigation ID#XXX with the exact problem I am experiencing. I called my Honda dealor to report and they stated they are not able to do any software updates without a Honda recall. I have another appointment with them on XXX to check the battery and possibly the brake pedal sensor. Please help. With idle start/stop enabled, there have been multiple occasions where the system has not restarted, causing my wife to almost get into an accident with my two young daughters in the car. Honda has looked at it on two occasions and claims there is no issue. However when researching this online, it has let me to find a NHTSA investigation, as well as hundreds of complaints about this are found online.

While the vehicle’s idle stop feature was engaged at a stop light, I took my foot off the brake to start moving again, but instead of starting again, the engine hard stopped and the van turned off completely. It told me to push the brake and start button to start it again but it took trying that several times and eventually holding the brake and start button down before it actually turned back on. Meanwhile, drivers stuck behind me were becoming increasingly irate and people were trying to get around me, despite heavy traffic. This is the second time it’s happened to me in this car. The first was about a month ago.

The two most recent incidents occurred on XXX. During one incident, we were stopped at a red light on a road with a 55-mph speed limit. The vehicle shut off and did not restart normally when traffic began moving. We were left immobilized in an active traffic lane while vehicles approached and passed us at approximately 55 mph. We had difficulty getting the vehicle restarted and moving again. This presents a serious rear-end collision risk because approaching drivers expect traffic to move when the light changes. Four children regularly ride in this vehicle, and we do not believe it is safe to continue driving. We contacted the Honda dealership again after the battery replacement failed to correct the problem. We were told that unless technicians could duplicate the issue, there was nothing further they could do. After AIS engaged, the engine wouldn’t come back on. This has been at intersections, etc where it was dangerous to have no engine. It is ridiculous that the feature has not been removed after problems going back to the 2018 model. All to game an emission standard. Shameful.

2025 Honda Odyssey with approximately 22,000 miles. On multiple occasions while stopped at traffic lights or stop signs, the vehicle's Auto Idle Stop feature shut the engine off normally. When I attempted to accelerate, the engine failed to restart, leaving the vehicle disabled in the travel lane. The battery warning light illuminated, and on one earlier occurrence I believe a "Shift to Park" message may also have appeared. I was able to restart the vehicle by pressing the Start button, shifting back into Drive, and continuing normally. The most recent incident occurred while stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green and I pressed the accelerator, the vehicle did not restart or move. I had to manually restart the engine while stopped in the intersection before I could proceed. This created a safety concern because the vehicle unexpectedly became disabled in active traffic. The vehicle has never exhibited difficulty starting during normal operation, either when cold or warm. The problem has only occurred after the Auto Idle Stop system shut the engine off at a stop. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a Honda dealer, but an appointment will be scheduled.

2025 Honda Odyssey. When the auto start/stop engaged, the engine failed to turn back on when the brake was released. It left my family stranded at a stoplight for multiple minutes before my wife could get it going again. After going rounds with the dealership and Honda not being able to 'recreate the problem', they finally put in a new starter and the van worked for the next year. Fast forward one year later and it did the same thing. Now the dealership cannot recreate it again, and I am concerned for the safety of my wife and kids. Brand new vehicle should not do this and Honda is not doing anything to rectify the situation. I have read there are over 2 million complaints on this issue on this website but don't understand how a recall has not been implemented.

I was stopped a stop light and the auto start/stop engaged. When I let go of the brakes when the light turned green, the engine did not restart and an ERROR message came on the dashboard. The Parking Brake light on the dashboard came on too.

The vehicle was turned off and restarted, and the vehicle then operated as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the diagnostic result was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The insurance company had not been contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 26,000.

Waiting at traffic light to turn left onto Dixie Hwy from Kyles Lane in Ft. Wright, KY. After taking foot off brake, car went into park by itself. Unable to put into drive or put on hazard lights. After calling 911, turned car off, then it restarted. Cars behind were honking. Thankfully an accident did not occur. Will take to Honda dealer on July 20, 2026 to check it out

When stopped at a red light today, our minivan's Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system stopped the engine with the brakes depressed (as advertised). Once the light turned green, the driver released the brake to re-engage the motor, but the starter did no restart the minivan and a battery light flashed on. The start button had to be pressed several (~4) times to get the motor to restart and to turn the battery light off.

The vehicle experiences dangerous, unexpected engine stalling immediately following an Auto Idle Stop event. Upon coming to a complete stop at intersections, the engine shuts off as designed, but fails to automatically restart when the brake pedal is released. The vehicle completely locks up, leaving my family stranded in live traffic and requiring a manual reset of the ignition, which takes time to restart several minutes or longer. The local Honda dealership states they cannot duplicate the intermittent issue, posing a severe ongoing safety hazard. Honda has a ticket open for the year of my Honda but has yet to approve or make a fix. It's happened several times first notice it back on XXX and Honda dealer could not duplicate the issue so they did nothing. It has happened several additional times before now but this last time it happened XXX we were on a highway at night and it almost caused us to be rear-ended. The first times it happened back in XXX I sent them a photo of the dashboard light up when it was stalled, but they said they couldn't duplicate the issue and did not fix anything. This has been addressed by the dealer once before and the starter was replaced, however the problem is happening again. The auto start/idle feature will not start the car back up while stopped on occasion. For instance, yesterday while stopped at a red light the auto idle/start feature kicked in, as expected. When releasing the brake to drive when the light turned green the car beeped and would not start again. We had to power the whole van down at a busy intersection and restart. Thankfully it started. We didn’t catch what warning lights flashed when the van beeped, but no warning lights were present before the issue. As mentioned, this has happened before to the point the dealership replaced the starter. But unfortunately, it is happening again. The van often has a rough start as well when using it, but not every time.

My vehicle has experienced repeated unexpected engine shutdown/no-start events, creating a significant safety hazard. The engine has unexpectedly shut off or failed to restart while stopped in traffic and while entering traffic, resulting in a sudden loss of propulsion. On one occasion, the vehicle would not restart for approximately one minute. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealership, and the starter was replaced under warranty in July 2025. The repair did not correct the problem. Since that repair, the same failure has occurred multiple additional times. The issue has now occurred at least six times over approximately one year. Because the condition is intermittent, the dealership has not permanently identified the root cause. The vehicle is currently being returned to the dealership for further diagnosis, and I have requested that the matter be escalated to Honda Technical Assistance (Tech Line) and Honda Engineering. This defect creates a serious safety concern because the vehicle can unexpectedly lose power while in or entering traffic, increasing the risk of a collision. There were no consistent warning lights or messages before the failures, and the condition occurs intermittently without warning. The vehicle remains available for inspection.

I bought a brand­new vehicle 1/31/2025 and it was a White Honda Odyssey 2025. I was in search of a bigger and safer car for my family of 5. Within months I had major issues with the vehicle. I would bring my car in and it would get returned unfixed. My vehicle has now gone in for a 6th time (twice in a week) for service for shutting off while the vehicle was IN MOTION (on the highway , busy rotary and roads) I have spent hours and hours and hours speaking to people and James Brown at Parkway Honda. I have been lied to about how much my vehicle was driven and tested with them not knowing I had tracked the mileage on there at dropoff and checked at pickup. I feel very small in this situation as Parkway Honda keeps brushing me off and not fully getting that a vehicle shutting off while in motion on a highway or in a busy rotary is wildly unsafe. My kids and I have been SOO lucky that this has not been fatal. Honda keeps saying it's the battery, etc. My car was in there for over 3 weeks last Summer for this issue and has been in and out multiple times and it was brand new. This is criminal on their part and they know they are bigger than I am and im sick of it.

The idle restart does not always restart the car following an automatic idle engine shutdown. The result is that the car is stalled at an intersection or other areas where the brake is applied, the engine shuts off, but the car is still in drive. Only fix found is to shut off the car systems and hit the ignition to get the car started again.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey intermittently fails to restart after the Auto Idle Stop system shuts the engine off at traffic lights or stop signs. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealer, but because the condition could not be reproduced during the visit, no repairs were made. The issue continues to occur. I am reporting this because the failure of the Auto Idle Stop system to restart the engine presents a serious safety concern and appears consistent with reports from other Honda owners.

There is an idle function on the engine that shuts the engine off when at rest, the engine has failed to restart and the car dies in the middle of the street, without warning, as if the battery is dead. The handful of times this has happened the car has been able to start back up within two or three tries. Honda acknowledges the issue as far as I know. The dealership let me know this is a known issue. It is unacceptable that there is no fix to this problem.

The contact stated that the failure became persistent. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who diagnosed that excessive heat caused a starter seal failure, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 16,598.

The vehicle suffers from an intermittent electrical/charging and starting system failure tied to the Auto Idle-Stop feature. While driving and coming to a stop at active traffic lights, the engine stutters and completely shuts down. It then fails to automatically restart, requiring multiple manual attempts to crank the engine back over. This creates a severe safety hazard, leaving my family suddenly stranded and vulnerable to being rear-ended in live traffic. The vehicle also intermittently struggles or takes multiple attempts to start after being parked in lots. ​The issue has been brought to two separate authorized Honda dealerships within a 30-day window. The first dealership diagnosed a failed battery and replaced it under warranty, but the stalling recurred. The second dealership held the vehicle for five days for diagnostic testing but stated they could not replicate the defect, returning it with no repairs made. Immediately upon picking the vehicle up from the second dealer, it suffered another starting failure in a parking lot. No warning lamps or error messages appeared on the dashboard prior to these failures. The components are intact on the vehicle and available for inspection upon request.

Stopped in heavy traffic in a four lane highway. Auto start/stop shut the engine down as expected. Traffic ahead cleared. I took my foot off of the brake to step on the gas. The engine didn't start up, and the radio and all lights inside went blank. Traffic behind me approached at about 45 mph. and were swerving around to avoid hitting my dead vehicle from the rear. I pushed the start button. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Several times more with my foot on the brake, or off the brake. Nothing. I put it in park and kept trying the start button. Finally it started, the radio and dash display came on, and from then on it operated as usual. Scared the hell out of us. There was no warning that anything in the car was malfunctioning before this happened. Took it to the dealer. They looked it over, kept it overnight. Told me the next day that the battery can get drained too much if the air/cond is on max and the start/stop feature doesn't like that. They used a machine to drain the battery and recharge it and they tell me now that it should be good. I don't believe one has to be aware not to use the air on max while the start/stop is enabled. I'm afraid to drive the car now! Our lives were in danger.

When stopped at a stop light, the car went into idle stop. Upon taking my foot off the brake to accelerate, the car stalled and required me to push the brake and ignition button to shut it off completely and then restart the car. This has happened on 8 separate occasions. It seems to happen more frequently when we have the AC on on a hot day. It's scary to be at a light with cars waiting to go around you sometimes in the middle of a busy road and your car just stops. I feel anxious when driving on the highway that the car will just stop, though I think that is unlikely given how this happens. We have gotten into the habit of turning off the automatic idle stop feature when we drive and that gets around it, but you have to shut this off every time you start the car, so we forget sometimes. No warning lights before the failures occur nor after. We are going to visit the dealership, but this is a known issue that is already under investigation and so I am just adding our report to the pile of others as additional evidence.

1st concern- while in an intersection the van powered off after lights on dashboard said something about a system failure. I tried restarting vehicle several times as I was really nervous being in an intersection and it finally started after a few tries. This same thing happened l, to my husband, while parked in our garage about to leave. 2 nd concern- last week on XXXI drove to [XXX] for a short vacation and while at a stop the dashboard had multiple warnings going off 1) electrical power steering system problem 2) Hill start assist problem. Vehicle may roll upon brake release 3) adaptive cruise control problem 4);power steering system problem. I called Roadside assistance and we waited about an hour and a half. He used a tester and said all was coming back fine but to take van to a dealer the next day. We took it to Egg Harbor Honda dealership and they said if the codes have cleared, which they had, then there is nothing they can do and to just take it to our dealer when we return home. I have an appointment for tomorrow at XXX at 915 am at [XXX] of Honda in Abington, PA. I have pictures of all the "2nd concern" warnings. During the 1st concern I was driving and did not feel comfortable capturing the warning lights with my phone camera. When I am stopped at a red light, the auto shutoff is activated, and when I lift off the brake and try to accelerate forward at the green light, the vehicle stalls for about 15 seconds, leaving the driver and passengers vulnerable to a car accident. One of the passenger seatbelts triggers the "no seatbelt" alarm, even when the passenger is buckled. If no one is seated there, there is no alarm. This only happens when someone is seated there. In order to bypass the alarm sound, the passenger has to unbuckle and re-buckle so that the car knows that the passenger is seated. Once the car shifts after a turn or curved road, the alarm will sound again. During an average 20 minute car ride, it'll probably do this 5-6 times, depending on how many turns or curves there are on the route.

We purchased a brand new 2025 Honda Odyyssey in Nov. 2024. Within a couple months of owning our new vehicle we began having issues with the Auto Idle Stop system. The vehicle will not turn back on at random when stopped at any time when driving. This is a huge safety risk as this has often happened while stopped at a light. It’s also happened when in the drive through. Essentially any time stopped to then go from the brake to the gas. There are times I can get the vehicle restarted quickly and other times it just won’t turn back on for about 30 seconds. The battery light flashes at times when this happens, but not consistently every time. The screen also shuts off and all power to vehicle until I get it restarted. I have had moments where I thought someone was going to rear end me. This issue occurred three or more times prior to our vehicle being outside the warranty and prior to the mileage being outside the warranty. The dealership has since given us an issue now that we are outside the warranty saying that any repairs now fall on us even though this is a recurring issue. They “attempted several repairs” to which none have fixed the problem. We have spent more time in a rental vehicle and switching back and forth to different vehicles waiting for the vehicle to repaired then any family should deal with a brand new vehicle. We are a family of 7 and in no way have time to be completely jerked around and in a manner that the dealership is now trying to wash their hands of. They essentially promised a resolve till we got outside of our warranty window and now it’s no longer their responsibility. We feel completely strung along as now they informed us we don’t qualify for lemon law even though we absolutely did. We were also informed by Janelle the service manager that our vehicle isn’t made for short trips. We have videos of the vehicle having these moments and we have everything documented through text with the manager and service manager of Honda Checkered Flag.

The malfunction involves the Auto Idle Stop / Auto Start-Stop restart system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey, including related battery, charging, starter, starter relay, brake switch, and Power Distribution Module components. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle has shut off while stopped in traffic, usually at a red light, and failed to restart normally. This has happened four separate times. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk because the vehicle can become disabled in an active traffic lane or intersection, creating a rear-end collision hazard and blocking traffic. I took the vehicle to Hill Country Honda in San Antonio, Texas. I told the dealership the vehicle had stopped and failed to restart normally multiple times, and I provided video and pictures to the service advisor. The dealership stated the battery had run down because of the Auto Idle Stop system and charged the battery for approximately two hours. I was also told that if it happens again, the procedure may be to charge the battery again before moving forward with further diagnosis or repair. As far as I know, the dealer has not reproduced the failure while in possession of the vehicle. However, they were made aware of the repeated failures and reviewed the video/pictures I provided. I do not know whether American Honda has inspected the vehicle. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. Warning messages appeared during the failure, including “System problem detected. Shift to Park” and “To continue to drive, depress brake pedal and push switch.” These appeared when the Auto Idle Stop system had shut the engine off and the vehicle did not restart normally. I had no clear warning before the first incident.

Once the vehicle's auto idle stop system engaged at a traffic light, and the engine failed to restart automatically leaving us stranded in active traffic. We usually disable the system but forgot that time. It has also required multiple manual push-button attempts to start from a parked position at home and in public parking lots. The vehicle was brought to an authorized Honda dealership for this issue. The dealer stated they could not replicate the symptom, diagnosed it as a low battery, and charged the battery. The issue persists. Failing to restart at a traffic light creates an immediate rear-end collision hazard and leaves occupants vulnerable in the middle of active intersections.

On multiple occasions, after the engine auto start/stop has turned the engine off at a stop, the engine fails to restart. This leaves the car stalled in the roadway. This has led to multiple unsafe situations as traffic flow is disrupted must divert around the stalled car in the middle of the roadway. There have been no other warning signs or symptoms leading up to this issue. The vehicle has not yet been inspected, a inspection at a Honda service center is scheduled for next week

Mother single , sole support 4 babies and going through divorce needed a vehicle right away . Carvana rated this car 94 after its 150 pt inspection . It was noted that it was in an accident. Driving the babies on interstate the Pilar flew off, later on still on interstate , ck engine light came on, then steering warning, brake warning and sudden loss of speed . Car would not accelerate beyond 40 miles per hour . Day 32 car was taken to Honda where she found she could not open the hood. Car was then sent to Gerber A very quick look found upper tie bar was “buckled” the dipstick bent and radiator “floating” also impact bar was missing or bent … read Gerber report for clarification , told with hood misaligned and latch bent way back hood could possibly fly up and no front end protection in a collision. I am horrified and begging for emergency swap… they are claiming cosmetic … BUCKLED upper tie bar?? They are waiting on a more detailed report gambling with 5 lives or more ! I loaned this child7000 to help lower payments . I wanted her to have a safe vehicle to drive. This is undrivable yet she cannot afford rental.. why are they waiting for detailed when we know it was wrecked January 13 2026 and obviously NOT a 94 and safety inspection 150 was clearly fraud I would never have let her and those babies buy a wrecked piece of junk! I am scared EVERYTIME she gets behind the wheel. The amount of time is taking away from her new job. She is sole support please help emergency swap now

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has experienced the same problem 4 times when stopped at a light. The engine shuts off when stopped at a light but then fails to restart and instead the vehicle automatically shifts to park and stalls; the battery light illuminates and the whole vehicle has to be shut off before the vehicle will restart and be able to shift into drive. It appears this is a problem with the "Auto Idle Stop feature." It happened twice a few weeks apart and then happened twice during the same 30-minute drive. The vehicle also jumps/jerks forward occasionally when my foot is removed from the break at a stop sign or light in a way that doesn't seem normal.

While the start stop feature is active, there have been several times where the van will not restart at a stoplight. In some cases, I have had to turn off the A/C, or other electrical systems to allow the car to restart. This has happened in traffic and caused several backups while I tried to restart the car. Took this van to the dealer and while they checked the systems they did not find any issued. As we progress through summer and into fall/winter, I do not want to have to worry about this in poor weather.

The vehicle has an Auto Idle Stop no-restart/stalling issue. While stopped at a traffic light/intersection, Auto Idle Stop engaged. When attempting to proceed, the vehicle did not resume driving normally, shifted itself into Park, dashboard warning lights flashed, and the only way to move again was to turn the vehicle completely off and restart it. This left the vehicle disabled in traffic and created a serious rear-end collision/intersection hazard. The issue was confirmed by a Honda dealer on 06/26/2026 at approximately 11,804 miles. The repair order states that code P07AF was stored and that a snapshot showed a drop in cranking voltage due to a failing starter. The dealer advised that the starter must be replaced, but stated the starter is on severe backorder. The vehicle remains unrepaired. Honda customer service case #16464445. The vehicle is a low-mileage 2025 Honda Odyssey purchased new in April 2025 and used as a family vehicle to transport children. Prior Honda service records show maintenance was performed at approximately 9,800 miles, including a multi-point inspection, and the battery terminals/cables/mountings and battery condition were checked OK at that time. This appears related to NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25004, “No Restart After Auto Start/Stop Engages,” involving 2018–2025 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The failed starter/vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

I was waiting at a stop light. The idle system kicked and the vehicle turned off, as expected. Upon lifting my foot off the brake, the vehicle failed to start and the car went into park. I was unable to restart the car after holding the brake pedal down and pressing the start button multiple times. After many failed attempts, I shut off the power to the vehicle, waited a min or so and restarted the vehicle. I then put the car in drive and continued thru the intersection. This was in a busy intersection and could have easily caused an accident, but thankfully it did not. This is the 3 time this has occurred with this vehicle.

The contact restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle resumed normal operation. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,600.

2025 Odyssey with 19k miles; Starter failure; After running/ driving vehicle continuously for 45 minutes in 80(f) degree weather, stopped and turned off vehicle completely. Tried restarting after 5 minutes, engine turned over twice, but did not start, and auxiliary features stayed on as if vehicle was running. Attempted again, heard click, as if engine attempted to turn, but no start. Checked engine visually, noticed engine bay was hot, but fluid levels all were within recommended ranges based on container-marked levels. After turning vehicle off, waiting 10 minutes and using battery jumper, engine started and stayed running. This is concerning as the vehicle features an auto-start feature that can turn off my vehicle in traffic, and leave me stranded at an intersection or worse if the starter fails.

Vehicle on numerous occasions has had a complete electrical failure during an auto stop that has caused the engine to turn off and needed manual reboot several times for the car to restart.

With the auto start engaged, the car has stalled several times in the middle of intersections with my family in the car. Over the course of 12 months, this has happened 5-6 times. In each case, we have to shut the car off and try to frantically turn it back on. Sometimes this takes a few tries to get it to start. It’s frustrating that there is no option to permanently turn off the auto start feature. However, within the past 2 months, there have been 3 times that the car won’t start right away from an off position. It takes a few tries to get the engine started. The van is less than a year and a half old and only has 18,000 miles on it. This shouldn’t be happening, particularly in the middle of an intersection if I forget to turn the auto start off. Honda has not replied to my inquiries and the dealership can’t/won’t do anything about it because they can’t replicate this issue.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has experienced an intermittent failure of the Auto Idle Stop system on four separate occasions. While stopped at a traffic light, the Auto Idle Stop system shuts the engine off as designed. When I release the brake pedal to proceed after the light turns green, the engine fails to restart automatically. Instead, the dashboard lights illuminate and flash, and the vehicle displays the message "Press brake and START button." Pressing the START button once does not restart the engine. I have had to repeatedly press or hold the START button before the vehicle eventually restarts. During these events, the vehicle is completely disabled in active traffic and cannot be driven until it restarts. This has occurred four times, including while stopped at busy multi-lane intersections. The vehicle remained stationary after the traffic signal turned green while surrounding traffic expected it to move. This created a safety hazard because the vehicle unexpectedly became immobilized in an active traffic lane. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership. The service advisor acknowledged they are aware of similar complaints from other 2025 Odyssey owners but indicated Honda has not provided a definitive repair or service procedure. A diagnostic appointment has been scheduled. I have also found numerous reports from other 2025 Honda Odyssey owners describing the same Auto Idle Stop failure. In many of those cases, dealerships ultimately replaced the starter under warranty after diagnosis. The consistency of these reports suggests this may not be an isolated incident. I am submitting this complaint because this is a safety issue. A vehicle that unexpectedly cannot move when traffic begins to flow creates a risk of a rear-end or other collision.

When I came to a stop at a traffic light, the car shut off as expected. However, when I took my foot off the brake the car did not start up. I had to manually start the car. This happened 3 times earlier so I had the car in to Curtis Ryan Honda for service one week prior and they claimed the battery was defective and put a new one in. However, even after the new battery, it did it again yesterday. Each time it happens, the cars behind me get anxious and start beeping. I am afraid that I may be rear ended at some point if this keeps happening. I dropped the car off at the dealer again for them to take another look at it.

The auto start and stop feature failed on numerous occasions. So when I am in the middle of a road stopped waiting for a car to turn my van will autostop but then it fails to restart. This has caused me on numerous occasion to be stalled out in the middle of busy roads and intersections. I almost was involved in an accident that was a near miss luckily. I have young children and I fear for their safety in our van as this issue can cause a serious accident if not corrected.

When I come to a full stop and the Idle Stop feature engages, sometimes the engine will not restart. I get a message saying to press the button to start the engine, but it does not start after doing that either, so I have to shut the car off and restart it. There are a bunch of lights that flash when this happens.

Van has repeatedly stalled during the idle stop restart process when stopped at a stoplight. The van will stall and the dashboard lights up with many symbols. To briefly include, a red exclamation, check engine and battery symbol among others. The car has to be completely shut down and restarted to turn over and function. Obviously an unexpected stalled vehicle in traffic is a significant and potentially injurious or deadly problem. This has been happening periodically since Jan 2026 on a 1 year old van with approximately 12k miles. I have asked the dealer to investigate and they claim no error codes and the battery is ok. I suspect either a starter, brake pedal issues, or software update is needed. I would encourage the NHTSA to issue a recall or service bulletin as a quick google search reveals this is a common issue on newer Odyssey vans. This vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

Our 2025 Honda Odyssey has now experienced three failures for the same defect, including two starter replacements within two weeks, without resolution. The most recent repair, overseen by Honda Tech Line, happened after the vehicle died June 2 while in traffic and it had to be towed to the local dealership using our insurance. On June 15 the vehicle died again, just five days after I picked it up with assurance that this issue was resolved, and it is was towed back to the dealership by Honda Towing. The repeated part swaps, without root‑cause diagnosis, clearly have not resolved the issue and have left us with a one‑year‑old vehicle that is unreliable and unsafe to operate. My minivan has failed in the middle lane of a major road while idling at a stoplight twice and in a parking lot once. All incidents were within 15 minutes of driving and 5 miles from my home. This is a critical safety defect and the repeated failures place this vehicle within the criteria that may qualify under Kentucky’s lemon law. We have not made that claim yet, but we are formally documenting the repair history and escalation. ———- -Starter failed and was replaced twice. The van has intermittent warm-start slow cranking and occasional Auto Idle Stop restart failures. The van fails to start intermittently during auto idle stops. This puts the driver and passengers at risk by failing to drive right away. It causes a potential collision from the rear. It has not been reproducible by the dealer and was inspected by the dealer. No warnings were present prior to failure. This started happening about 2-3 months ago.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey fails to restart after the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system engages at a complete stop at traffic lights and intersections. When I release the brake, the engine does not restart as designed. I am forced to shift into Park and manually restart the vehicle using the ignition button. This has occurred multiple times and is intermittent. I am aware of NHTSA engineering analysis EA25004 covering this exact issue on 2018-2025 Honda Odysseys. Honda TSBs A23-008 and A23-010 have not yet been applied to my vehicle. This defect creates a safety hazard as the vehicle is unable to proceed through an intersection when traffic clears. Additionally, after driving for 20+ minutes, if I stop the vehicle and then try to restart within 5-10 minutes, the restart is very slow, almost sounding like the battery is not strong enough to turn over. I have to turn off the vehicle and then press start a couple of times to get it to work. If i then proceed for another 5 or so minutes, turn it off for just a couple of minutes and restart, it is dead with no sound on the initial restart atempt and I need to try a couple of times. You ask for a date below. This has been recurring since purchased the car in September of 2024

While in traffic, the van goes into idle and then will not restart. This has happened to us at least 5 times. The frequency has increased and now occurs at least once a week. We are very much worried about how unsafe this is because we could be hit from any direction while in active traffic. When the engine shuts off while braking at a light/stop sign etc occasionally the car will fail to turn the engine back on and the car will go in to park and the only way to get in to drive is to restart the car. This happens once or twice a month.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite repeatedly shuts off completely while stopped, with the Auto Idle Stop feature engaged, and fails to restart on its own. The engine dies at a complete stop and will not restart until I shift the vehicle into Park and manually restart it. This has happened more than six times. It occurs only at complete stops such as traffic lights and stop signs. No warning light illuminates. This creates a safety hazard because the vehicle is dead and immovable in active traffic until I can restart it, exposing me and my passengers to rear-end collision risk. This matches the known Auto Idle Stop defect already under federal investigation for this vehicle.

Auto Idle Stop feature has caused the vehicle to stall / shut down at a stop light on several occasions causing hazard when we can't drive. Entire engine has to be stopped and restarted which is scary in heavy traffic.

-Defective Starter. -Starter randomly fails to restart vehicle after being warmed up. -When the DC motor internal copper windings get heat soaked after being driven and warmed up, the motor's internal resistance gets too high to draw sufficient current to turn over engine properly. This happens when intentionally shutting off motor (ie. getting gas, going into a store then coming out in a few minutes), the engine either will not crank at all, or cranks about two engine revolutions, will not start and then stops trying and remains in full accessory mode. It will not attempt a restart either. The only remedy is to fully shut down the vehicle, then try a fresh start after a few seconds. Sometimes it will start the engine, sometimes it will repeat the issue and you have to try again. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS when this problem occurs when the vehicle is at an intersection or traffic light, shuts itself off due to the auto-start/stop, then fails to restart the engine when expected when the light turns green. Especially at traffic lights if you're the first car in line., and especially if you're the first car to go with traffic behind and in a single lane of traffic. Having to totally shut the car down, then do a fresh restart while blocking an intersection with tons of cars behind and all waiting on your car to decide if it wants to re-start with cars flying around you into the shoulder or ditch to get around is an extremely dangerous position to be in, forcing other drivers into doing ridiculous things to get around you and WILL if not already cause major accidents. I believe Honda knows this is an issue. They are blaming bad batteries and alternators which can easily be ruled out with independent battery and alternator testing in the vehicle, while the problem of no/slow cranking remains. The problem IS defective starters, that have or will absolutely cause accidents by stranding vehicles in intersections because of failures to restart.

When at a stop, the van is supposed to start again. There have been at least 4 times now that it did not automatically restart. After the 3rd time, I was at the dealer for routine maintenance and mentioned it. He said if it does it again to let them know and they will need a full day to look at it. The most recent time I was at a major intersection in town at a red light. Light turned green and the van would not go. My adult son was with me and said it took about 30 seconds for me to get the van going again. It is scary because I live in a busy town. The service advisor said he has the same van and ALWAYS turns the idle stop to off when he drives. I try to remember to do it, but sometimes I forget. I am calling the dealer now but really don't want time without a vehicle.

After approximately 60 miles of highway driving, I was stopped at a stop light and the auto engine off feature automatically shut the engine off. When I lifted my foot from the brake pedal in attempt to accelerate forward, the van did not turn back on and a battery warning light showed on the dash. I attempted to restart the van without success x 2, it was not turning over. My van was stalled in the middle of the road, cars passed around on both sides. Upon my third attempt to restart the van, it did restart and I have had no further issues since. Though, I have been shutting off the auto engine off feature since that time. I understand there is a well known issue with the auto engine off feature of Honda Odysseys in this generation. I am respectfully advocating for a formal recall as a stalled van in the middle of traffic poses significant risk to the public.

This was an auto stop-start system failure. The Honda dealership in Frisco inspected and attributed this to battery life but did not guarantee this was the cause of the issue. There were no other signs of failure prior to the incident. A description of the incident is below. While turning right departing a parking lot, the vehicle auto stop-start enabled during the brief stop and the feature turned off the vehicle. When accelerator was pushed to proceed, the car started flashing lights with a warning message on the dashboard, the car was then automatically put into park by the system, and would not proceed to move without turning the vehicle off and back on. If this had occurred in another location, it would have been extremely dangerous as it took some time to turn the vehicle back on.

The contact opened the driver’s side door and press the start button to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted and operated normally. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two separate occasions. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure, and a service appointment was scheduled. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 8,000.

While driving straight on the highway on a sunny day the car left the lane on it's own, resisted attempts to get it back into the lane, and crashed into the concrete barrier after we swerved around and the car bounced around. Lane keeping assistance and automatic cruise control were active. The lane lines looked perfectly fine. A couple minutes before the accident the car left the lane unexpectedly but we were able to get back into it. Before going on the trip we took the car to the dealer and complained about issues with the car not starting after it shut off while idle at stop lights, or not starting properly, like engaging the parking brake and getting stuck, or starting and rocketing forward even when I only pressed lightly on the gas, leading to loss of traction. They checked the car and said everything looks fine and the tires have 5mm of tread and don't need to be replaced, and they rotated the tires and changed the engine oil. I'm not sure if the issue was with the power steering failing, or traction being lost, or the sensors having an issue causing the car to think the lane was somewhere else and not letting us leave where it thought the lane was. Driver has tons of bruises still and it's been over a week. The other 4 passengers seem ok. The insurance company said the car is totaled and is taking possession of the car. The only warnings lights or messages the car gave us before the accident were about the car having an issue starting back up when all the cars were beeping behind us when the light turned green, and messages about loss of traction, mainly after the engine started back up.

Engine fails to restart after the Auto Idle System shuts it down, leaving vehicle stranded in traffic. The issue is sudden and unpredictable, and may not appear in inspection. A stalled car in live traffic is a safety concern. The vehicle is at a dealer for diagnosis and repair. No warning appeared before the problem began happening. (About 5 times in 2.5 months.) Sometimes when it occurs, a brief error message seems to appear on the dash, but quickly disappears. It usually takes cycling through restarting the car to get going again. Not a good environment to stop and take video, although it's almost impossible to record.

Engine will fail to start when shut off to stop light or when shut off at anytime when engine is hot. Very dangerous situation. Acts like starter is dragging. There is a clunking in the steering column when making a turn mainly to the left that can be felt in the steering wheel. Driver seat is splitting open on the side. Keeps setting code p0441 for evap system..

I am reporting a critical safety issue regarding the auto-start-stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey. On June 15, 2026, the vehicle's engine shut off at an intersection as designed but failed to restart, stranding the driver in active traffic and presenting a severe safety hazard. I previously brought the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership approximately two weeks prior to this incident after noticing early symptoms of this failure. At that time, the dealership diagnosed the issue as low battery voltage and replaced the battery; however, this repair did not resolve the underlying fault. The vehicle continues to unexpectedly stall during traffic stops due to the auto-start-stop failure, representing an ongoing and significant danger to the vehicle occupants and other motorists.

while running in expressway, van lost it's power and went to parking mode while driving x 3, have to turn on and off the engine in order to restart in the middle of expressway. this put myself, 2 toddlers, and other family member in the car to get hit by the vehicle that is with us especially in the express way, and could have resulted to death at worst. Luckily able to take to the dealer and they said that the battery was dead and not holding any charge at all, this happened 6/10/26, we bought the car 4/2025 brand new, and currently have 8500miles on it. Dealer replaced the battery the same day. there was no warnings on the dashboard that was telling us that the battery was getting low or having any issue. this incident could have killed us in an instant with no warning at all. this is very dangerous.

2025 Honda Odyssey has completely shut down at a traffic light and stop signs. This has now happened multiple times. When waiting at a red light the car fails to restart the car when I take my foot off the brake and I get a message “to continue to drive depress brake pedal and push switch” . The red battery light comes on and the car puts it self in park. The car fails to turn on or turn all the way off. The car is stuck in park in the middle of traffic.

This event has happened multiple times in various situations. While sitting at a red light the auto idle stop feature was engaged and the engine turned off as normal. Upon lifting my foot off the brake, the car fails to restart leaving me stranded in the middle of the intersection. This caused an unsafe situation as I was unable to restart the vehicle until after a few tries, leaving cars having to navigate around me in busy intersections. I have also had situations where I was unable to start the car while in park. It would start after the second try. This car was purchased in Fall 2024 and started showing this issue less than 1 year after purchase. Given the age of the vehicle, it should not have battery or starter issues this early on in the lifecycle of the vehicle. Looking online, other 2025 Honda odyssey drivers have posted similar issues. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but lately I have been having more frequent occurrences. A recall must be issued on the battery/starter to prevent future accident that is just waiting to happen. Being stranded in an intersection is incredibly unsafe.

Electrical restart feature failures, battery dash indicator comes on and the restart feature won’t engage. This has happened on several occasions on busy roads with lights vehicle won’t move without manually turning off vehicle and putting into park to restart. Was almost rear ended by large truck after being unable to restart vehicle after being stopped at a red light.

While having the idle-stop system in use our van had shut off three times at a red light when we took our foot off the brake to press the accelerator. This left us at an intersection with a dead engine. Not knowing what was going on it took us a few moments to get the van turned back on and into drive. I had the van in for routine service and asked them to look at it with no issued found. It will go in again next week for additional checks. The only warning light is the battery icon comes on. Battery was checked at the dealer with no issues found.

Bad starter. When utilizing auto start/stop, the engine would fail to restart at stop. The car would need to be shifted back to park, turned all the way off, and then back on to restart, resulting in a delay - an unsafe practice at an intersection.

Sitting at a stop light. The car stopped the engine with the auto start stop system. When I released my foot off the brake. The engine didn’t start back up. I had to put it in park. Press the start button multiple times and it finally barely started. This was in traffic right while the light turned green.

Had the starter & battery replaced November 2025. It’s now June 2026 and it still is having trouble starting. It will sometimes not start and then just make a clicking noise and all the lights in the dash come on and air, but engine won’t well start. Then you take foot off break, then turn it off and try again it will start. The dealership ran tests and said everything was fine. When we first had this problem the car would stall out and shut off in traffic.

On multiple occasions, we have been unable to move due to severe traffic congestion, leaving us vulnerable to aggressive and hostile behavior from other drivers. The resulting situation is both stressful and unsafe, particularly when traveling with young children. -Issue has happened several times -No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure -Reported the issue to the dealership as the vehicle is still under warranty. Per service technician, there is not alarms or issues with the vehicle. Nothing is being done by Honda to address this issue. Please help

Auto Idle Stop system engages (turning the engine off in highway traffic and at a red light or stop sign), the engine occasionally fails to restart on its own. I have to put in park and restart. Almost causing accident started when van had 25k now I have 46k on the odometer and Honda said no longer covered.

Engine start/stop feature is not working properly and it nearly caused a few accidents. I am getting rid of this car and going to purchase a Toyota Sienna. Android Auto doesn't work either which is a known issue as well and it is a basic safety feature to keep driver's attention on the road and not on their phones.

The vehicle’s auto stop-start randomly does not start the engine when releasing the brake. The vehicle is temporarily disabled on the roadway and it puts itself into Park. The vehicle requires intervention to restart the engine and the delay takes several seconds and poses a safety risk by blocking the roadway.

While the van is at a complete stop at the intersection it shuts off and behaves as if it needs to be restarted. A message appears instructing me to press the brake and push the start button to start the van. I took it to Honda, but they were unable to find the issue. They replaced the battery to see if that would fix the problem, but about a month later, it happened again.

Idle Stop issue- We were at a stop light and the engine idle stopped. When the light turned green and the foot was taken off the brake, the engine did not turn back on. We had to turn hazards on and turn van completely off. We tried several times to restart the vehicle and the engine did not respond. We finally got it to turn on a couple minutes later but the engine sounded as if it was struggling to turn on.

On three separate occasions — May 17, May 20, and May 29, 2026 — the vehicle's Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) / Collision Mitigation Braking System activated without cause while traveling at highway speed (one of these occasions was on an interstate). On each occasion, no vehicles, pedestrians, or obstructions were present ahead of or around the vehicle. The road was clear. The activation produced a large bright yellow dash notification and the vehicle's brakes activated. Minor children were passengers in the vehicle during these events. The vehicle has an active Florida Lemon Law case with multiple prior documented electrical nonconformities. When I attempted to schedule yet another service appointment to have THIS defect diagnosed, the dealer, who sold me the vehicle, refused to service the vehicle due to the pending lemon law status and directed me to contact Honda Corporate. When I asked the dealer to provide their refusal and the requirement for Corporate authorization in writing, they declined to do so. Honda Corporate has not responded in over 72 hours. Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system fail to restart: The engine fails to restart on its own after a complete stop at a traffic light or intersection with the Auto Start/Stop function engaged, putting the driver in dangerous and panic situation.

Noise coming from front driver side suspension or steering column/components. The noise is very light, but sounds like a clunking/rattle and can be felt through the steering wheel. It is intermittent. Because I am unsure what is actually causing the noise, I cannot state whether it is actually part of the suspension system or steering column area. The dealership cannot replicate the noise, so it has been turned away twice now. Does not feel safe. Searching other odyssey forums, it is something that is reproduced by others who have bought a 2025-2026 Honda odyssey.

The Auto Idle Stop has failed to restart the car when stopped at a traffic light. This has happened twice now, and has caused me to become a road hazard as I am not able to get the car turned back on before the light turns green. This has happened twice in the past month (May 7 2026 and June 1 2026). Have not yet taken the car back to the dealer. No warning lights or anything came on prior to the incident. Just stopped at a light and the engine stopped, then did not turn back on when the brake pedal was lifted.

Car completely turns off when I’m stopped and idle stop has engaged. Seems to happen when the AC is running hard. Sometimes, the car turns back on by itself in seconds. Other times, I have to turn the car back on myself by pressing the “engine on” button, and I struggle to get the car to turn back on. Very dangerous to be obstructing traffic at busy intersections or on a busy highway when stopped while another car ahead is making a turn. I’m scared to drive this car with my children in it. It is a minivan! I understand this is a known issue under investigation by NHTSA, but I’m struggling to get my local Honda dealer to acknowledge and address it. This issue happens at least 1x a day when I’m running the AC.

While stopped at a red light the engine turned off with the engine restart function. When I released the brake the engine attempted to start and then completely stalled. I had to get the vehicle in park and restart the engine with took it a few attempts of pressing the start button. The has happened a few times with this vehicle. Dealers have been unable to replicate the issue to try to solve the problem.

The starter is failing and with automatic dial shut off it caused an issue while in middle of intersection waiting to turn. The car would not start and had issues. Took it into the dealership Wyatt Johnson in Clarksville, TN they said they could get it to show an 8volt which is a reduction and shows that it is failing, but said Honda would not replace until it fails in the dealership. This is a safety concern an [XXX] iles [XXX] rning of more electrical issues that a safety concern the sensors go off all the time in the rain and sometimes when in reverse in an empty parking lot. The doors do not always lock like they should and these are all electrical issues. Honda refuses to replace even though it shows signs of failure! The Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system malfunctions during normal driving. When coming to a stop, the AIS shuts off the engine as designed, but the vehicle then fails to restart when the brake is released. The vehicle shifts itself into Park automatically without driver input, either before or at the same time as a dashboard message appears instructing the driver to depress the brake pedal and press the start button. When the start button is pressed, the dash resets but the engine does not start. The only way to recover is to fully power the vehicle off and restart it, which is difficult and unsafe at a busy intersection or red light. This puts the driver and others at serious risk. The vehicle becomes immobilized in traffic with no ability to move it out of the path of oncoming or following vehicles, creating a risk of being rear-ended. The unexpected automatic shift into Park is also a vehicle control concern, as the driver does not initiate it. The problem is intermittent. The vehicle has been taken to an authorized dealer twice. On the first visit the dealer kept the vehicle several days with a loaner and attempted to replicate the issue but could not. On the second visit the dealer kept the vehicle one day and again could not reproduce it. A third diagnostic visit is scheduled, during which the service manager intends to drive the vehicle to attempt replication. As of now the failure has not been confirmed or reproduced by the dealer. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. No warning lamps appear prior to the failure. The only symptom is the automatic shift into Park and the dashboard message to depress the brake and restart, which appear at the moment of the malfunction. The first occurrence was at approximately 25,000 miles. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives.

The vehicle turned off at a red light and would not start up again.

The idle stop on my 2025 Odyssey sometimes does not turn back on when it turns off at a red light. I have to then completely turn off my vehicle and turn it back on in order for the vehicle to work again. Also, when first turning on my car sometimes It’s very laggy in fully starting. This is a great safety concern, especially when at a red light or at a stop sign when trying to apply gas and it doesn’t turn back on. This is a problem we’ve heard is being experienced by 2025 Odysseys. The dealership we took it to could not replicate the problem they said the battery was totally fine.

AIS system causes the 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite to stop and fail to restart when stopped at traffic light intersections—the car will not restart which is very scary in traffic with kids in the car. I had starter replaced at a Honda dealership, but the dealer could not say whether it was same part or upgraded part, which means the starter may overheat and shut down again because Auto Idle Stop. The vehicle was scheduled for diagnostic testing within the next few days. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100.

Vehicle has stopped running multiple times while at stop signs or traffic lights when engine is at idle and not running. The vehicle has to be restarted to go after shutting off while in traffic. It is very concerning when this happens in live traffic. The dealer has had the vehicle for days and were not able to replicate what happened. Asked me for more information on what was being used when it happened. They say they ran tests and were unable to get any codes to show what might have happened. The only thing I have seen was reports that the idle stop feature was unavailable previously. Not sure when that happened? This has happened at least 6 different times, last time being May 8th 2026.

CMBS error again now having lane assist error

I have encountered several instances where the vehicle goes idle at a spot light as expected. However the vehicle fails to restart when letting off the brake. Instead, the vehicle shifts into park. Once the vehicle shifts into park, I am unable to shift into drive. I must restart the vehicle and try en shift into drive. This is extremely dangerous and has happened multiple times. This vehicle is one year old and has 9k miles.

The screen goes black, doesn't turn on, or it stalls out and will not let you do anything and has a hard time connecting to phones at all

After taking it for the who knows how many times for the popping sound they deemed the steering column unsafe to drive and replaced that and they had the vehicle for almost a month because they couldn't get the parts, in that time they even admitted they felt the transmission issues 9. Starter was replaced after complaining for months about it dying at lights or stops and it being rough to start 10. Popping sound from the axle when you go over anything or turn the wheel 11. Back passenger door wont shut it just keeps popping back open 12. Doors dont lock when you walk away 13. Passenger doors will unlock but driver side doesn't 14. The passenger door got stuck and we had to crawl through and push it open 15. Transmission gets stuck and wont go over 30 and the rpms go up but the speed doesn't move, it shifts hard and makes a thud sound, and the engine is crazy loud 16. The idle stop system frequently fails to restart the car after shutting down the engine at a stop light. In some cases the car is difficult to restart using the starter button. In other instances the car restarts and then dangerously lurches forward.

We've been experiencing issues with the Auto Idle Stop feature (the auto restart in particular). On multiple occasions, the vehicle will automatically turn off the engine while stopped in traffic, but will fail to start back up, requiring the driverto manually turn the vehicle off and back on via push button starter (sometimes multiple restarts is necessary to get it moving again). This seems VERY similar to the investigation referenced under - EA25004.

Auto start stop not working. This is happening quite a lot where there auto stop in activated and then the car wont start back. Resulting in the car having to be completely restarted.

Engine would not restart after the idle stop at a traffic light. I needed to put the car in park and turn the engine off and restart it. Shortly after this, at another traffic light, the idle stop caused a delayed restart of the engine and caused the vehicle to lurch forward suddenly. This has happened once before as well.

Back passenger side window broke while driving with no evident cause. Speed was between 25 and 35 mph, no other vehicles were present nearby, and no pedestrians were in the area.

While waiting at a red light with foot on the brake, the auto idle stop system shuts off the engine but fails to restart it when the foot is lifted off the brake, causing stalling. The vehicle has to be put in park and turned off completely and restarted before it will drive. This has happened twice, once on 5/1/26 and today on 5/7/26.

I was driving on the street about 15 miles per hour when the car sensor sensed something in front of my car and stopped automatically when there was nothing in front of me. Almost caused a rear-end accident, luckily, the car behind was able to stop

The vehicle's Auto Idle Stop system shuts off the engine at stop lights and other low-speed stops and, on multiple occasions, fails to restart, and the AIS disable button is sticking. We disable AIS every single time we drive the vehicle, and on multiple occasions the button has re-engaged itself mid-drive, meaning the safety hazard cannot reliably be avoided even with the workaround Honda recommends.

There is suspension noise coming from driver side when driving in low speed (10-30mph). You can feel it when turning and accelerating slowly. It started around 9000 miles after first service of the car. There was no noticeable noise before. Reported to dealer but they cannot fix it and told me everything looks normal.

When I am stopped at an intersection, my 2025 Honda Odyssey will often automatically stop the engine as part of its auto idle feature. The engine shuts off completely when at a stop after releasing the break pedal. This occurs when the idle auto start is on forcing me to restart the car multiple times with the engine button until it turns on and I am able to continue driving. This is a SAFETY hazard because it happens during traffic and an accident can occur. I have taken it multiple times to the dealer with no replication being able to be done.

The vehicle's auto idle stop system is malfunctioning, resulting in the engine failing to restart from a complete stop. This total failure has occurred on five separate occasions, including while stopped in active traffic intersections. Prior to these total restart failures, the vehicle showed the following symptoms: 1) Initially, the vehicle experienced rough engine idling, abnormal vibrations, and a raw gasoline odor after driving. 2) This progressed to a noticeable delay between releasing the brake pedal and the engine attempting to ignite, during which the starter sometimes sounded strained. 3) This has culminated in the current defect where the engine shuts off normally when stopped at an intersection, but completely fails to immediately restart when the brake is released. This defect completely immobilizes the vehicle in active traffic lanes, exposing us to an immediate and severe risk of a rear-end collision. When the engine fails to restart, the vehicle locks the transmission out of drive and triggers a warning on the dashboard. It is a highly hazardous situation, especially with a lot of distracted drivers on the roadways.

The auto-idle off feature - yes The stall happened in a situation where cars behind me would have expected me to start moving and could have resulted in a rear-end collision. The vehicle has stalled like this three times. The other two times were not in public or traffic situations. It has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. It has not been inspected by anyone else. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure, only after.

I've had several incidents of my car stalling occur since the purchase of the vehicle over the span of 16 months, probably around a dozen times or so. I will stop at a stop light and the vehicle's idle-stop system does not function properly. The vehicle shuts off but does not auto-restart. When I try to manually restart, nothing happens. There have been times where it took several times before the vehicle started back up. Even more seriously, I've stopped in the middle of traffic and the same thing happened. We have had a couple of very scary incidents of cars having to move over a lane to pass our idle vehicle. Thankfully no car hit us due to our idled vehicle. We have owned this vehicle for less than 1.5 years and have had two battery replacements. I've also had the vehicle not start from my garage or parking lot. When I try to start the vehicle a second time, there are times where the start button feels very firm and doesn't push down easily. I have to push the start button several times before the vehicle starts. I'm grateful there have not been any major accidents occur but this is an extremely unsafe situation for the driver and their passengers.

Many, many times vehicle stop/start feature has failed to start car. Have been stranded at busy intersection having to put car in park and restart car. Extremely dangerous. Took car to dealer and they deny there are any problems.

Issue with the idle auto star stop. I was driving on the freeway traffic stoped and I press fully down on the brakes and the turned of in stop and go traffic. Took about 5 minutes press and depress the brake pedal for the system to active again.

Starter failed to resume engine operation when auto start/stop disengaged motor at a stop light. This resulted in the vehicle being briefly inoperable after the light turned green, requiring other motorists to go around and leaving the vehicle stalled until engine functionality was resumed. Issue was reproduced by dealership, starter motor was deemed defective and was replaced under warranty. Vehicle had rough starts when resuming from auto stop for at least a week leading up to this incident.

On multiple occasions our vehicle has turned off at a stop (auto start/stop) and failed to restart upon pressing the accelerator. It then takes several seconds to be able to restart and get moving.

On April 19, 2026, I submitted an initial complaint to Honda concerning what appears to be a spontaneous breakage of the rear side (fixed quarter) glass. The vehicle was parked overnight in driveway when the glass shattered without any known impact, external force, or evidence of vandalism. The fracture pattern is consistent with spontaneous tempered glass failure originating from the edge, which raises concerns of a potential manufacturing defect or internal stress within the material. On April 20, 2026, I presented the vehicle in person at my local Honda dealership for inspection and assistance. To date, no action has been taken, nor has any resolution been provided. This lack of response is unacceptable given the safety implications. Due to safety concerns, the vehicle is currently not in use and remains parked. I am unwilling to operate the vehicle in its present condition out of concern for further damage or risk. As a result, I am experiencing a significant disruption to my daily activities and mobility. Accordingly, I respectfully request the following: 1. Immediate review and approval of this issue under Honda’s warranty as a case of spontaneous glass breakage. 2. Idle start stop system was engaged at stop light. When I released the brake the van engine should have restarted - however the van completely died at this point. I had to wait about 10 seconds and then restart the entire car while sitting at the stop light. Very dangerous - the vehicle has also done this when at a stop light but cut off after I started to make a turn - leaving me in a dead vehicle in traffic's way -

I purchased a new 2025 Honda Odyssey XLE in February 2025 and soon noticed a clunking noise coming from the front suspension whenever I hit bumps. However, when I left the dealership, the noise was still there. The issue has since gotten worse. The clunking noise can now be heard when starting the engine, during transmission downshifts, and over even small bumps in the road. It feels like something in the suspension is loose, and I believe it is unsafe to drive. I am requesting that the vehicle be bought back. The dealership where I purchased the vehicle is 380 miles away, and I am currently on military orders, which makes it difficult for me to return to that location.

On 4/4/2026, my child sustained a serious finger injury involving the power sliding door. The child activated the power sliding door using the interior door button. While the door was closing, the child’s hand remained on the front (leading) edge of the sliding door where it meets the door frame (B-pillar). The child’s finger became caught between the closing door and the frame. The power sliding door continued to close completely and latched shut on the child’s finger. I’m experiencing issues with the Auto Idle Stop system. The engine fails to restart on its own after a complete stop. I get an error message and I have to manually restart. This has happed at stoplights and in the middle of an intersection during heavy traffic which is a big safety issue.

After a drive, shut it off, walk back to car within 2 minutes, car wont start. It cranked but failed. Never happen in cold start, but always after a drive. Happen about 8times in 9,000 miles and is more and more frequent now.

During the stall itself, a red exclamation point warning appeared on the dashboard.

I see the NHTSA is aware of the issue with Honda Odyssey AutoStart failing to restart the engine which causes the car to need to be restarted fully while stopped in the middle of traffic. I had this issue many times, my car was serviced with a new battery and 2 months laters its starting again. As an aside one of the front parking sensors will randomly go off which can often cause me to turn off the array. Cleaning didnt help.

With adaptive cruise control engaged and set on any of the four options, my odyssey’s speed slows down for a short time period then speeds up again as I approach the vehicle I intend to pass. This happens when my odyssey is about a car length behind the vehicle I intend to pass. This happens when I’m passing a vehicle on the left or right side. This doesn’t happen every time I pass a vehicle with adaptive cruse control engaged. I had this odyssey in a Honda dealership shop today, February 26, 2026, to hopefully fix this issue. I can’t confirm this but was told by the service agent at the dealership that when this happens, the brake lights will turn on. The fix the dealership service recommended was to set the adaptive cruse control to the minimum following distance setting. I’m going to quote the service technician’s written comment word for word. “Have found this to be a pretty normal symptom of the adaptive cruse system.” I take that as meaning, the service technician has seen this before and it is normal for this vehicle. If this is “normal”, there is a major safety issue with this odyssey. On the way home from the appointment at the dealership service department I had the adaptive cruse control at it’s closest following setting. I passed a vehicle on the left and this issue happened again. When I got home, I called the service manager and told him my odyssey did have the same issue of slowing down even though the adaptive cruse control was set to the closest following distance setting. One more thing to note, the service technician did take my odyssey for a test drive and did experience and there for confirm the above stated issue with the vehicle slowing down. I did speak with the service manager at the Honda dealership about this issue. He was unaware of any other vehicle with this issue and said he would check into it and get back to me. I purchased this odyssey new on January 16, 2025. This problem existed since the day I have owned it.

i bought this van brand new for over $53000 and it has been hesitating to start for months. i had the battery tested and came back good. Since purchasing this vehicle brand new off the truck, we have had it back at the dealership multiple times ,we've taken it for the plug in console not working for firesticks, a sensor not working on the passenger side door and claiming it to be open, the sliding door not working correctly, the doors locking and refusing to unlock, battery draining, ac not working, stalling, dying at lights, slamming on its own brakes with nothing around, transmission acting weird, it putting itself in to sport mode, transmission sticking, doors not unlocking or not locking, sensors going off, random errors on dash, screens not working, Car play not working, suspension popping, steering being wiggly and loose, brakes squeeling. Today we were told by the dealership "he saw the damage that is resulting in needing to replace the steering column. With that being said, it is considered a safety hazard to drive this vehicle with the condition the steering column is in." This is after multiple times of saying nothing is wrong to we have to charge the battery to you need a new starter to this.

I brought my van in for service because, when stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle enters automatic shutdown as designed; however, when I release the brake, the engine does not restart. Instead of restarting automatically, the vehicle remains off, and I have had to perform a hard start because it will not crank on its own. The van is a brand-new 2025 Honda that was purchased new. After inspection, I was informed that the battery would need to be replaced. During the same visit, I also reported a vibration issue. After checking this, I was told that the vehicle needs new shocks and that the tires show wear. I was further informed that the tires will not be covered. Given the age of the vehicle and the fact that it was purchased brand new, I am concerned about the need for a battery replacement, suspension repairs, and tire wear at this stage, as well as the decision not to cover the tires.

The CMBS braking system is completely faulty. It regularly brakes for shadows on the ground, going up hills, or for no reason at all. There have been SEVERAL near misses where cars behind me have almost rear ended me because of this cars erratic braking. I have a neck injury from this most recent episode of the car slamming the brakes for no reason.

The vehicle completely stalled, we believe it’s related to the engine in reference to the idol on and off mechanism. We began to drive forward and the auto on off starter caused the car to completely shut down and freeze in an intersection.

Idle Stop Failure. This has occurred many times. Presents itself as: Failure to restart upon releasing the brake. Rough restart. Sometimes have to completely turn off car and restart.

My Odyssey has a no-restart issue related to Auto Idle Stop. Engineer did not restart at red light and I had to push the button twice. We were caught in traffic and was not safe.

The car stopped while driving in the middle of the street and would not turn off or on.

The vehicle experiences abnormal vibration and shaking felt from the rear during braking at moderate to highway speeds. The condition does not occur during steady driving and is isolated to braking events. An authorized dealership inspected the vehicle and documented rear brake rotor thickness variation but no repair was performed. The issue has continued and raises concerns about braking stability and safety, especially at higher speeds.

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the contact released the brake pedal and depressed the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact believed that the failure was related to the gas saving feature. The vehicle then stalled, but was able to be restarted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 11,390.

When the Auto Idle Stop is engaged, I have now had 3 instances of the engine completely stalling when at a stop. Not only has the engine stalled, but I have difficulty getting the engine to restart. It has been very scary, as it has left me disabled at busy intersections while I struggle to get my van to start so I can move and pray nobody hits me while I sit there. I've even had to open the driver's door to get the van to restart. We've made a habit of manually turning the auto idle stop feature off every time we drive it. This problem has not occurred when the feature is turned off. The first incident of this was several months ago, and I already took it to my local dealer but they couldn't replicate the issue and did nothing about it.

Over the past month, I have experienced several incidents where my 2025 Honda Odyssey’s Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system failed to restart the engine after stopping at traffic lights. Each time, the engine did not turn back on when I released the brake, leaving me stalled in traffic and prompting error messages on the dashboard. There is currently no way for owners to permanently turn off this feature. When I took my vehicle to the dealership, I was told my starter was already having issues despite the car having less than 10,000 miles on it. This ongoing problem has made me concerned for my safety and the reliability of my vehicle.

My van is a 25 Odyssey Elite with 18K miles. On several occasions, when I have been stopped at a stoplight and the idle function is activated, the vehicle doesn't auto restart and often it must ben put back into park and restarted. This has worked with a bit of effort. It typically is not just a push of the button but rather some sputtering, several attempts at pushing the ignition button and then and eventual start. Today I had it happen again and had a challenge getting it restarted and this time I noticed that the battery red light came on along with some other warning lights (I don't remember which ones as I was panicking to get going an not hold up the line of cars behind me.

In January 2025, we drove to Florida from Michigan. When I started my car every signal light came on. It would not allow me to shut down. We drove it to Orlando Honda and they said the sensor light was covered with road salt. It was very scary. In November 2025 we were driving home in a snowstorm. The sensor in the front got covered and shut down the speed control, warning lights of crossing lane, detecting cars on right or left. I get told every time can’t duplicate. The automatic bright lights got stuck on after only a month of having this car. Dealership says it was off. Well it wasn’t and they still do not work. Speed limit sign on dashboard will go up to 85 miles per hour this is in a 25 mile area. Again they say can’t duplicate. Brakes feel mushy to myself and husband. Again we’re told there is nothing wrong with it. When the speed controls are set there is at least 2 miles difference with my Waze speed and the vehicles speed. I’m told this is normal. Well it’s not. Something is wrong with the electrical system. I owned a Honda Odyssey before and I never had any issues with that one. We’re getting ready to drive to Florida and I’m terrified the system will shut down again. I was told that having road salt on a sensor is not a warranty issue. Well, it is because of poor design. I’m also afraid once this vehicle is no longer under warranty I will be paying $ for this poor design. I’m not happy and now wish I had my old one back.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has been completely shutting off after the stop-start shuts the engine off. When the car actually “stalls” is when I let off the brake and it’s time to start going. Then I hear a ding, the dash lights come on, and I have to frantically hit the ignition button. This is happening at stop lights where there is the risk for other cars to safely go when the light turns green. I have to completely shut off the car and restart the engine while traffic is going on green.

Vehicle shuts down and will not restart. So far this has happened three times. After a long delay, took foot off gas, held brake and pushed start and would not start. On third attempt vehicle was very labored on start

I stopped at a stoplight and the auto shut off took place, when i tried to take my foot off the brake to start the car, the car did not restart. I stalled at the light with cars behind me and my children, the dash displayed a message saying system problem and flashed I did not get a photo . I shut the car off with the brake and the start button and tried starting it twice, Finally the car restarted and I drove home. Something is wrong with the AIS and it put us in danger

Idle stop engine turned engine off at a stop light. When the foot was removed from the brake pedal the engine struggled to start up. It took several attempts to get the engine to start up. This has occurred before and the dealer replaced the battery. However, it is now happening again. There were no warnings .

My wife and I purchased a new 2025 Honda Odyssey Van as it currently has about 11,000 miles and we both have noticed a front end vibration/rattle/noise that can be heard and felt in the steering wheel at varying speeds in the front suspension which leads me to believe as an engineer there are issues with sway bar end links, bad strut mounts, or loose control arm bushings that are especially noticeable over any bumps. This issue could pose a serious safety issues in dealing with failed suspension or steering that could cause a potential wreck or loss of control of a vehicle and result in a product liability suit for all parties involved especially given suspension and steering are considered critical auto parts in nature. The problem has been reproduced with my making an appointment at Watermark Honda located at 3201 Park Ave, Paducah, KY 42001 on November 19th, 2025 with the Master Service Tech Caleb Buchanan and Service Advisor Harley Littrell both driving the vehicle and acknowledging the noise and vibration. I also have any recorded video while driving at 5-10 mph in the parking lot of Watermark Honda that was shared and viewed by Harley Littrell. The vehicle was inspected with some strut bolts and other front end component bolts being torqued down the same day with the issue not being resolved. Harley/Caleb noted that they were dealing with the same issue on another 2025 Honda Odyssey on the lot to be sold and they were trying to address issues. As of follow-up appointment on 12/11/25, Harley noted this van had several front end parts replaced and it still made noise with this van not being able to be sold to the public. I was advised by Harley to contact American Honda and to file this report. See uploaded video below.

Dear NHTSA, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2025 Honda Odyssey, which has been diagnosed with a transmission failure requiring full replacement due to faulty internal seals. The vehicle is less than one year old, and this type of premature failure raises serious safety concerns. I first became aware that something might be wrong during a routine oil change on November 11, when technicians noticed signs that the transmission might be leaking or malfunctioning. I continued to monitor the vehicle, and on November 28, I was informed that the entire transmission must be replaced due to faulty seals inside the transmission assembly. A critical component like the transmission should not fail this early in the life of the vehicle, and a structural defect such as faulty seals may indicate a manufacturing issue that could affect other vehicles of the same model and year. Information from the dealership: SHEEHY HONDA OF ALEXANDRIA Diagnosed transmission failure caused by faulty seals Recommended repair: Complete transmission replacement Explanation: Premature failure of internal transmission seals leading to fluid loss and unsafe operation Repairs completed so far: Diagnostic inspections confirming failure This vehicle is used to transport children, and a sudden transmission failure presents a significant safety risk. For a new vehicle to require a full transmission replacement within its first year of use is highly concerning. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue to determine whether other 2025 Honda Odyssey vehicles may also be experiencing similar premature transmission failures. . When auto start/stop engages at stoplights and fails to restart radomaly but not always, the vehicle remains stationary and blocks traffic lanes when battery light turns on. This creates hazardous conditions where other vehicles must maneuver around a stalled vehicle in intersections, risking rear-end collisions and traffic disruptions. Dealer was not able to replicate Issue as this, i expeted this becouse happens randon times maybe based on weater or after driving for longer peroids . Dealership's only recommendation was to manually disable auto start/stop every time the vehicle is operated. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle and defeats the purpose of this safety

Stopped at red light. Auto start/stop engaged. Light turned green let off of brake and pressed gas. Engine did not start. Couple seconds later engine started.

Blind Spot Monitoring System does not register vehicles sometimes. Sometimes when passing a vehicle, light does not illuminate. Sometimes cars will pass the vehicle and light does not illuminate.

When the vehicle is stopped, and the auto-shut off engages, the vehicle will turn off, and the vehicle has to be restarted. Quite dangerous when in traffic and the vehicle is dead due to the auto-shut off not starting again. The fix is believed to be an updated starter engine computer and starter motor.

Category: Structure / Water Leak / Electrical System Risk Vehicle: 2025 Honda Odyssey Description of the Problem: My 2025 Honda Odyssey has a repeated and serious water leak issue that affects the driver-side floor area. I first discovered the leak on October 30, 2025, with the driver-side carpet and foam padding completely soaked. The dealership (Sloane Honda in Philadelphia) kept the vehicle for two days but claimed they could not find any leak. On November 19, 2025, the same leak occurred again, with even more water present under the driver-side carpet and foam. I have photos and videos showing significant water accumulation. This presents multiple safety hazards: Potential electrical short circuits in wiring under the carpet Mold growth affecting occupant health Floorboard corrosion Impaired vehicle operation The vehicle is currently back at the dealership, and Honda has not provided a proper resolution. This is a recurring structural defect that poses a safety risk and should be investigated.

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The contact turned on the hazard lights. The contact waited to restart the vehicle and after several attempts the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal and pushing the Start button, the brake pedal was stiff while the start button made an abnormal beeping sound. The message "Press the Brake Pedal and Push the Start Button," was displayed. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The failure had occurred four times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle remained at the dealer undiagnosed and unrepaired. The contact no longer felt safe driving the vehicle and left the vehicle at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 18,886.

The vehicle intermittently fails to restart after the auto start/stop stopped the engine. This happened several times when stopped at a traffic signal, nearly causing an accident when cars behind expected to move after the traffic signal turned green. There were no warnings or indications prior to the failure to start. Multiple attempts to restart the vehicle failed until at least a minute or so had elapsed. The vehicle has also intermittently failed to start after being parked for a few minutes after being driven for 20 minutes or so. The starter has generally sounded weak when starting, and when it fails to start it sounds like the engine tries to start turning for a fraction of a second before it stops trying to crank the engine. It almost seems like the start duration is too short or the ECU thinks the engine has successfully started when it hasn't. I brought the vehicle into the dealership to have this checked, and they replaced the battery saying it was bad. However, the failures to start continued to happen shortly after. I returned the vehicle to the dealership to be checked again. They have not yet identified anything that could be causing the issue. They claim the battery and starter test good. Based on similar complaints, it seems that this is an issue with many of these vehicles. Honda needs to identify the root cause of this failure to start issue.

COMPLAINT: 2025 HONDA ODYSSEY AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM FAILURE Component Failed: Auto start/stop system fails to restart engine after automatic shutdown. Vehicle available for inspection. Appears related to investigation INOA-EA25004-10033. Safety Risk: Vehicle has failed to restart approximately 12 times since May 2025, all at intersections with active traffic. When auto start/stop engages at stoplights and fails to restart, the vehicle remains stationary and blocks traffic lanes when lights turn green. This creates hazardous conditions where other vehicles must maneuver around a stalled vehicle in intersections, risking rear-end collisions and traffic disruptions. Dealer Confirmation: Yes. Authorized Honda dealership tested battery (good), contacted Honda customer support directly. Honda acknowledged the issue but provided no diagnostic solution or repair procedure. Dealership's only recommendation was to manually disable auto start/stop every time the vehicle is operated. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle and defeats the purpose of this factory system. Manufacturer Inspection: Authorized Honda dealership consulted with Honda customer support. No fix or remedy provided. Warning Symptoms: None. No warning lamps or dashboard messages appear before or during failure. Auto start/stop system operates normally until restart phase, then engine fails to restart. First occurrence May 2025. Problem occurs intermittently.

When’s stopping the vehicle it shut off and stall to come back on or cut off completely and when i try to restart the vehicle it take several attempts before coming back on. It happens often if i dont turn off the the auto feature

With vehicle auto start/stop feature enabled, vehicle just shuts off when attempting to start back up after shutting off at a stop light. It has happened multiple times and recently it even happened with the auto start/stop feature turned off. Took it to the dealership and they tested everything to include the battery and they weren’t able to duplicate it. A review of forums showed other people with the same issue and it is pointing to a faulty starter, but no recall has been issued yet.

When car is stopped it completely shuts off, goes into park and does not restart. This has happened 3 times, twice at an intersection and once as I slowed to a stop sign. The car didn’t restart and I had to push the engine start to restart the car. This was dangerously because it has happened while I stopped but also while I was slowing down at an intersection, the car would abruptly shut off. When this happens warning lights on the dash appear but go away once I restart the engine.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has been completely shutting off after the stop-start shuts the engine off. When the car actually “stalls” is when I let off the brake and it’s time to start going. Honda does not allow the start/stop to be disabled by default. It has to be disabled, manually, by the driver, every single time the car is restarted. So you can't just ignore this problem by shutting off the feature when the feature won't allow itself to be shut off by default.

The Idle Stop feature failed to restart the engine when I released the brake after having stopped at a traffic light. Eventually restarted after more than a minute of manually pressing the ignition button.

I came to a stop at a stop sign. Then "auto off" shut off the engine. Next, the vehicle went into park. A message came on screen telling me to press the brake and the start button. Doing so had no effect. Cars behind me started honking. After repeatedly stabbing the start button and opening and closing my driver's door, the vehicle eventually rebooted, and the engine started as normal. This caused a dangerous situation where other cars went into opposing traffic to get around me.

Auto start/stop functionality has resulted in vehicle stalling mid traffic as vehicle does not start and shutdowns. This has occurred in multiple occasions and most recently almost caused an accident with my family. We sent to dealer who checked battery and stated to issues. There were no warnings and dealer was unable to reproduce as they didn’t drive the vehicle. I have concerns with this new vehicle after finding other reports of this issue.

The car stalled then stopped when I was at a traffic light, I had to press the start engine button multiple times to restart the car. This issue has occurred 3 times within the last two months.

My car has been dying when I stop at stoplights. We took it into the dealership and they said the battery was sending error messages. So we replaced the battery. It is doing it again. Sometimes it starts but it is getting progressively harder to restart it. It is dangerous to be stalled at an intersection. The car is not even a year old.

I am having issues with my auto start/stop, also, occasionally has issues starting from a cold start! I was at a red traffic light, and once the light turned green I went to go and my car died. I had to put it in park and try and restart it and it took me three times for it to restart. Everybody was honking at me. This is a safety issue.

Hand control device for disabled drivers is correctly installed under the stearing wheel and works as intended. However, device has several very sharp right angle and corner points that, in the event of a collision, the sharp (not rounded) areas would severely damage driver's knees.

The idle stop system is malfunctioning. I had it inspected once previously and now trying to get it inspected again for the same occurring issue. The dealership continues to tell me to turn off the idle stop feature on the vehicle. My safety was put at risk because of the vehicle stalling and not kicking back on while being stopped at a redlight on a busy 4 lane highway multiple times now. The first time, I was by myself. The second time, my 8-month-old was in the vehicle with me. This causes a lot of panic as there are impatient drivers around me since I am unable to move my vehicle. I fear that this could happen on a freeway if there was construction, an accident or even while trying to turn in an intersection and getting hit because I can’t move my vehicle and often have my two small children with me. The first time the idle stop stalled, it occurred twice in a week. The first time was rather quick, and the engine kicked over quickly so I did not think anything more of it. The second time which happened a few days later (9/17/25), took about 5 minutes to get the engine going again and moving on the road (4 lane highway). I took it back to my local Honda dealership where they performed a diagnostic test and discovered the battery had dipped down to 7.22V when trying to restart, the battery failed the battery test and ended up being replaced with a new battery. The idle stop issue has now happened for a third time (10/21/25), with the same issues occurring and I am waiting to be able to get back into Honda. The vehicle has only been looked at by my local Honda dealership. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other notifications prior to the failure. I received a warning on the dashboard after the events occurred on how to start the vehicle. This is very disappointing as a new Honda owner. My husband and I decided on Honda over other car companies due to their reliability and this has now become a constant worry.

Honda Odyssey EX-L sport 2025 has been facing the issue of idle stop not working causing engine to stall, engine failing to restart, shutting off completely during mid traffic especially during adaptive cruise control operation. This is causing an unsafe driving situation. While this issue was reported to Scott Clark Honda multiple times and they have claimed to fix this issue in Aug 2025, the issue continues to exist and root cause hasn't been fixed. This seems to be related towards the on-going investigation by NHTSA. Please help to resolve at the earliest since no further support is being received from Honda.

Since July 4, 2025, this can has intermittently shut off and stalled on me, my wife and my family and has refused to start. It has now been back to the service department of Trust Honda of Palmdale 4 different times for the same problem and the battery has been replaced on this van back in July. Most recently, it stalled just two days ago in rush hour morning traffic on the 405 Freeway going South in the San Fernando Valley. The display on the dash read “dead battery “. It took over 20 minutes for the van to start and my wife was able to move it off of the freeway to a safe location.

2025 Honda Odyssey EX-L My concern and issue is that the 2025 Honda. On 18 October 2025 the Honda Odyssey shuts down by its self after stopping at a red light. I believe it has something to do with the feature of auto start/stop system. This has happened multiple times. The  vehicle sporadically fails to restart after coming to a complete stop. The engine shuts off as expected at a stoplight, but when I release the brake, the vehicle hesitates to crank over or start which has left me stalled in traffic numerous times. No warning lights or messages ever appear prior to the issue. This issued has left me in the middle of the road numerous time with traffic behind me. This takes a couple of minutes to restart the engine because the vehicle lights are turned on and it appears that the Odyssey doesn't have enough power to turn on the vehicle. But after multiple tries the Odyssey finally turns on. This is extremely dangerous because it can cause another car rear ending us and injuring my family.

Description of the Problem I am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety concern and poor quality repair on my 2025 Honda Odyssey, which I purchased new less than one year ago. 1. Engine Auto Idle Stop / Starter Failure Issue The vehicle suddenly shut down when the “Auto Idle Stop” feature was activated. This incident occurred multiple times, and I was unable to restart the engine until several attempts later. This creates a dangerous situation, especially in traffic or intersections. When I contacted the dealer, they confirmed that the issue is caused by a starter motor failure, and the replacement part will not be available until early November — meaning I must drive for over a month with this feature turned off. Many other owners have reported similar problems online, which strongly suggests a potential defect that should qualify for a safety recall. 2. Water Leak and Poor Quality Repair My vehicle also experienced a water leak from the roof area. The dealer attempted to fix it by simply applying sealing material on the roof molding (see attached photos). The repair looks extremely unprofessional, and I requested them to properly replace or reinstall the roof molding, but they refused. This type of repair is unacceptable for a new vehicle of this class and price. 3. Honda’s Unsatisfactory Response I contacted Honda Customer Service (1-800-999-1009) and spoke directly with a representative. However, I was told that: They cannot extend the warranty. They cannot offer any compensation or goodwill service. They cannot provide me with a record or copy of our phone conversation (even though they recorded it). They will only repair the starter once parts arrive. I explained that I have already spent time, fuel, and lost work hours visiting the dealer multiple times, yet they refused any support. When I stop, they start stop, turns the engine off, but when I release the brake, the engine struggles to turn over and sometimes doesn’t and I have to put it in park to restart it. I have taken it to the dealership already once, but they said they weren’t able to reproduce it. I will be taking it back to the dealer to try again.

The issue involves the auto start/stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey Touring. When the feature is turned on, the vehicle intermittently fails to restart after coming to a complete stop. The problem does not occur when the start/stop system is disabled. During normal driving, the engine shuts off as expected at a stoplight, but when I release the brake, the vehicle hesitates or fails to crank, leaving it stalled in traffic. The Honda dealership confirmed the issue and stated that the starter motor needs to be replaced. The van has approximately 9,300 miles. No warning lights or messages appear before the failure. The problem occurs only when the start/stop system is active. This presents a safety concern, as the vehicle can lose power and fail to move when traffic lights change or when merging, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or blocking intersections. The vehicle is currently being inspected and repaired by the Honda dealer and is available for inspection upon request.

Two concerning and dangerous malfunctions are occurring. 1.)When car is stopped at a light for more than 45 seconds the car engine shuts off, when I press on the gas the dashboard lights up and displays a battery light and advises me to restart the car. The car struggles to turn over. 2.) The car struggles to start on initial start as well. The dealership replaced the battery and it continues to happen, they advised me to disengage idol stop every time I start my vehicle to save the starter and prevent the car from stalling. This is obviously a problem with the Honda idol start that needs to be addressed. There are multiple threads in online forums about this issue with Honda.

If the car is standing in sun on a very hot day, upon starting the engine it will start beeping with all these errors blinking and disabling these controls. Once the engine runs for 15,20 minutes and the car cools down, the warnings disappear too.

Three times now since buying my van about 6 months ago brand new, I come to a stop light, the engine turns off, but then it won't come back on when the light turns green. I have had to put my hazards on while I frantically push the start button multiple times. Eventually it will start up but takes 1-2 minutes. I brought it into the dealer the first time and they blamed it on a weak battery. After it happened 2 more times, they are replacing the starter but I'm afraid that's not going to fix it. While I wait, i just have to turn off the idle start/stop button every time I start my van.

THE AUTO STOP/START OR AUTO IDLES FEATURE ON THE CAR keeps stalling after the car stops AT THE RED LIGHT. It can cause a rear collision.

The idle engine feature is defective. Often, when stopped and the engine goes idle, it will not restart when the driver releases the brake. The van stalls, and the driver is forced to move the vehicle into park and start the engine again. This is dangerous and stressful because the driver behind you expects you to go, especially when the light turns green, but you are stalled, potentially leading to rear-end accidents.

Vehicle stalled on a highway after an idle stop event at a stop light. Vehicle went to PARK. Required a full restart by operator to go when light changed and traffic was flowing in other lanes. Dealership examined next day and indicated battery was good. Voltage dropping to 8V to 10V when starting. Recommended to disable idle stop each time vehicle is started. The moonroof on my 2025 Honda Odyssey spontaneously exploded while I was driving it on [XXX] between New Orleans and Slidell, LA. The date of the incident was [XXX]. I was traveling at about 65 mph, the outside temperature was 93 deg F and the sky was clear. The highway was smooth and there was no construction in the area which would have produced loose pebbles or rocks. The explosion was like an artillery piece had fired overhead. I was lucky to have maintained control of the vehicle and the moonroof sliding cover was closed preventing broken glass from showering down on my wife and me. The next day I brought the car to the dealership (Royal Honda, Metairie, LA)to report the defect and to have the car repaired. I was told by the dealer that the manufacturer does not inspect failures such as this one and that Honda declined to repair the damage under warranty even though the minivan had less that 4,000 miles on it and 3 months old. My wife was driving our 2025 Honda Odyssey on [XXX] on a neighborhood road around [XXX]. She came to a stop sign and stopped to turn right. Upon accelerating to turn right, the emergency braking system activated slamming on the brakes and bringing the vehicle to an immediate stop. There were no other cars, pedestrians or other obstacles with any line of sight. The sudden stop caused her to whiplash hurting her shoulder. We brought the vehicle to Joyce Koons Honda of Manassas. They downloaded the data and confirmed that the emergency braking system had activated but there were no reason codes given. They couldn't find any other issue and test drove the vehicle for 10 miles with no incident. My wife was really shaken up by the incident and refuses to drive the car until an actual cause is found and fixed. At a stop, the fuel save system shut the car off. When you take your foot off the brake the van fails to restart. If you try to restart using the push button the car will still not start because the transmission is still in drive. Then it takes awhile to get the transmission into park/neutral and then the van will start. The problem is intermittent 3 times in the last 2 months. No accidents just blocking traffic. My wife doesn't like that.

After going into Auto-idle at a traffic light. The engine did not turn back on when accelerator was pressed. Even after a restart. It took about 30 seconds.

I think there is a problem with the Auto Idle Stop system that has resulted in the starter needing to be replaced. But, the dealership says nothing is wrong. The Auto Idle Stop malfunction lights up when I let off the brake. I have gotten in the habit of turning off the AIS every time I started the car. However, it still is hesitating to start, which leads me to believe the AIS has killed the starter.

Normal speed of 25mph on a clear warm day with no road obstructions when the BRAKE System Indicator (Red) illuminated. I pressed on the brake and had severe resistance and was barely able to stop the car. Two more indicators illuminated. One I believe was the Vehicle Stability Assist and the other I don't recall. The screen flashed "Call your Dealer". The Owners Manual states "Have your vehicle repaired immediately." The vehicle was hauled to Southeast Honda. Codes UO416-680416-F8, U0418-68, U3000-49I. The Brake Booster was replaced. I am concerned that an in-experienced driver traveling at interstate speeds might have a fatal issue.

I am reporting a recurring issue with my 2025 Honda Odyssey, which exhibits difficulty starting the engine. Approximately two months after purchasing the vehicle in Dec 2024, the original battery failed and was replaced under warranty. However, the vehicle continues to experience problems when attempting to start. When I press the start button, the engine hesitates, cranks slowly, or feels as though it nearly fails to start. This issue occurs intermittently, regardless of weather conditions or the duration the vehicle has been parked. No warning lights or error messages have appeared on the dashboard The problem has occurred multiple times, most recently on Friday August 15th 2025, and creates a safety concern, as the vehicle’s unreliable starting could leave me stranded in potentially hazardous situations, such as remote locations or adverse weather. I have not yet had the vehicle inspected by a dealer for this specific issue, but I plan to schedule a service appointment to diagnose the problem. The prior battery replacement suggests potential issues with the electrical system, starter, or related components, possibly linked to the auto start/stop system currently under NHTSA investigation for 2018–2025 Honda Odyssey models. Additionally when driving down the road especially at low speeds the engine hesitates as if it’s not getting enough gasoline. Lastly the AppleCarplay screen and all other associated screens randomly go out. I have been to the dealership 3 times for repairs and they give me the run around saying they don’t notice anything so Honda won’t pay for anything and send me on my way.

On two separate occasions the vehicle’s engine has turned off when stopped as part of the Auto Idle Stop feature and then did not restart when I took my foot off the brake and pushed on the gas pedal. I was stuck in traffic frantically trying to get the van to restart and eventually was able to get it. This is a new van I’ve had less than a year. I took it to the dealer after the first incident and described the problem. They kept it for more than a day troubleshooting and didn’t find a solution. Verbally they recommended using the button that turns off the Auto Idle Stop feature that must be pressed each time the van is started to turn the off the feature. I’ve done that most of the time since, but I happened to forget this week and then it happened a second time where I was unexpectedly stuck in traffic with the engine not coming back on.

We get a warning light saying "Adaptive Cruise Control System Problem". Van has 4200 miles and it happens during hot days, usually at lunch time. I took it to dealer "Honda Cars of Rock Hill, SC" but they told me there is no code showing up in the Van. I emailed honda America with video but so far no response. The system just goes crazy, beeping and the cruise control is no responsive to cancel button or anything. We are not even using the adaptive cruise control when this happens. After you drive for a while, it goes away, like nothing happened. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicles emergency avoidance system activated and applied the brakes very heavily. We were nearly hit by a vehicle behind us, which nearly caused multiple accidents. There was nothing in front of us, and the road was co.pletely clear in front of us.

The auto on/off while idling will randomly fail. The car stalls, all emergency lights turn on and the car won’t start for a few minutes. This has occurred at stop lights and in traffic after coming to a complete stop and the car turns off when idling. The car is only 6 months old. The first occurrence happened at the 3 month mark and has become more persistent. I’ve had my battery checked and that was not an issue.

On two differed occasions the AIS system failed and left my car disabled at an intersection. I was sitting at a traffic light and the car died when I took my foot off the break and attempted to proceed through the intersection. Additionally, I have a faulty seat/seat belt. The seat does not register an occupant or indicates the occupant is not buckled in when they actually have fastened their seat belt.

On June 14th 2025, I reversed up my driveway, uphill, shifted to neutral to allow the vehicle to roll downhill a bit so I could straighten it out. While rolling forward, the transmission was jammed into park with no warning or interaction from me, causing my head to sling forwards in a whiplash fashion from the abrupt change in inertia. This was both harmful to me, to the transmission, and is a major defect. Engaging a transmission into park while moving is reckless, harmful and extremely dangerous. The failing component is most likely the transmission control unit and is available for inspection upon request, but has not been inspected by anyone other than myself. The problem is reproducible by me.

I am an engineer and my respect of the laws of probability makes me a cautious driver. I've had m+y 2025 Honda Odyssey for six months, but only driven it 500 miles since it cannot be trusted. I stopped at a light waiting to safely make a left hand turn. I began my turn with enough time for two vehicles to follow me. After pressing the accelerator the vehicle slowly responded. The stall left me in the intersection, so I accelerated hard to avoid being killed. The sudden acceleration was difficult to control and almost resulted in me going off the road. I've come to learn this resulted from a Honda design decision. They have a feature called "Auto Idle Stop" that is ON BY DEFAULT. I was never informed of this feature and believe this was a reckless, or should we say reckmore, decision. This was clearly a deadly design decision. The USG must fix this. In addition, the USG should charge the engineers, and their management, for reckless endangerment.

No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that a musty odor was emitting from the vehicle. No cause for the failure was found. While driving in a construction zone, the vehicle's lane departure system jerked the wheel and almost made me leave the lane Very dangerous. Same vehicle, the A'C was found not operating and a dealer diagnosis found that the system was overfilled and that an electrical connection was not hooked up from the factory. Same vehicle, body panels are not properly aligned from the sliding door to the passenger side door, gap is almost 1/2 inch.

While driving vehicle, the sunroof exploded. I had to fabric inner aspect closed so glass did not enter the vehicle. My [XXX] was in the 2nd row and would have had glass in her face if I had been driving with the fabric part open. Honda is fixing the sunroof currently but I feel unsafe driving with it now. I was on a side street with no overpass near, no cars around and no other vehicle to throw rocks. It simply exploded.
