ODI #11731689ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the idle stop feature turned off. The contact stated that the parking brake unexpectedly engaged, and the vehicle shut off with the message “Idle Stop Not Available” displayed. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. Additionally, shifting the vehicle out of park became difficult, and the contact had to wait an extended period before the vehicle could be restarted. The contact stated the failure would not occur while the idle stop feature was engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was advised to return the vehicle if the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, and the dealer refused to disengage the idle stop feature. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

ODI #11731298ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Multiple times since purchasing the vehicle, the engine fails to restart after the automatic idle stop feature engages at red lights or stop signs. When I release the brake to resume driving, the vehicle attempts to restart but makes a struggling or grinding noise and then stalls completely, similar to a dead battery. The vehicle becomes unresponsive and does not restart immediately. I am forced to turn the car off and attempt to restart it multiple times, often waiting several minutes before the engine turns back on. This has occurred in traffic, creating a safety hazard due to vehicles behind me and my inability to move the car. The issue appears to be related to the automatic idle stop/start system and may involve the starter or battery failing to properly restart the engine.

ODI #11731069ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, the Auto START/STOP feature engaged, causing the vehicle to idle, the transmission shifted to park(P), and the engine failed to restart independently, and the vehicle turned off unexpectedly. The battery warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted. Additionally, the vehicle made a clanking sound while driving over a bump or while making a turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was determined that the battery had low voltage, and the contact was advised to deactivate the Auto START/STOP feature. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

ODI #11731160ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

Engine Shutoff/Idle Stop Failure: The vehicle fails to restart after the automatic idle stop engages in traffic, requiring a manual restart. Electrical System Malfunctions: car dying at stoplights, loss of power, and, in some cases had to restart in "limp mode" where the vehicle is restricted to 1st gear, not very safe on major highways. Reported this to Honda during service on 3-16-26, they didn’t find anything? Has happened 7 times since it was serviced.

ODI #11730916UNKNOWN OR OTHER

This is the fifth time the auto engine shutoff failed to restart after I stopped my car at a stoplight or traffic. This results in potential rear ended accident as one time it stopped in the middle of traffic on the freeway, another time the car behind me at a right turn light that turned from red to green almost rear ended me. No, I brought the car to Honda dealership and they said no problems. But this auto engine shutoff that failed to restart has occurred fifth times. Vehicle has been inspected by dealer and unable to reproduce because they didn’t drive it and step on the brake and have it stopped in middle of traffic. There was an engine warning light that occurred twice but disappeared after 1-2 days before my scheduled dealership appointment. I mention this to dealer. The failure happens suddenly without warning once I step on brake without turning off the auto engine shutoff which I sometimes forget because it is every single time I turn the engine off the auto shutoff would reset. I called Honda America back in January 2026 when I had this problem. I changed my car battery already and so it is not a car battery issue.

ODI #11730525ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My van seems to struggle when traveling longer than 80 miles. I stopped on a trip at a rest stop and it would not restart. I had to get jumped and I purchased a new battery. I took my van into Honda and both batteries tested fine. No code is being produced though the dealership was able to replicate the issue once. After longer trips while using the air conditioner also have an issue with the auto/stop start not reengaging after being at a stop light. The dealership told me nothing is wrong a battery terminal was loose after they kept it for a week which I do not believe.

ODI #11729892UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The issue involves a malfunction of the auto start/stop system in my 2025 Honda Odyssey, where the engine fails to automatically restart after coming to a stop. The vehicle instead requires a manual push‑button start to regain engine function. The vehicle and all related components are available for inspection upon request. This failure created a significant safety risk, as the vehicle became unexpectedly inoperative in active traffic. Losing propulsion at intersections or stop‑and‑go conditions exposes occupants and surrounding drivers to the risk of a rear‑end collision or being stranded in a hazardous location. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center, but it has occurred during normal operation. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other third parties regarding this specific failure. There were no warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure occurred. The issue first appeared without any advance indication.

ODI #11729443UNKNOWN OR OTHER1 INJURY

On 4/4/2026, my child sustained a serious finger injury involving the power sliding door. The child activated the power sliding door using the interior door button. While the door was closing, the child’s hand remained on the front (leading) edge of the sliding door where it meets the door frame (B-pillar). The child’s finger became caught between the closing door and the frame. The power sliding door continued to close completely and latched shut on the child’s finger. At no point did the door stop or auto-reverse, and there was no noticeable slowing, hesitation, or warning indicating obstruction detection. The door operation sounded normal during closing. The child’s finger remained trapped until an adult manually opened the sliding door to release it. The injury involved a finger amputation involving the distal portion of the finger with an open fracture and nail involvement, requiring emergency room treatment. Emergency department records document a diagnosis of fingertip amputation, with radiology findings noting a soft tissue amputation defect and concern for distal phalanx (tuft) fracture of the affected finger. Follow-up evaluation on 04/06/2026 confirmed the severity of the injury and resulted in an urgent same-day referral for orthopedic/hand surgical evaluation.

2025 Honda Odyssey has been stalling due to Auto Idle Stop (AIS) failure to restart at traffic lights or stop signs. Engine fails to restart automatically and car needs to be manually restarted with push-button off/on switch. No apparent fix issued by Honda.

ODI #11729519ENGINE

Upon coming to a complete stop, the engine has failed to reengage causing the car to stall in traffic. The car has restarted after being turned off and restarting but with traffic moving all around us and cars behind honking because they think we are failing to go. If we happened to stop in an intersection it could be even more dangerous. This has happened 3 times so far I. The past couple of months. At first I thought we accidentally pressed a wrong button or did something that caused the engine to stall, but upon research and talking to others with Hondas this appears to be a known issue. I am taking the car to the dealership on 4/10/26 to get looked at. There was no warning light or error messages prior to to happening. We bought the car new and it has only 10,000 miles on it.

ODI #11728735VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The Auto Idle Stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey fails to restart the engine when the brake pedal is released quickly after a full stop. When this occurs, the vehicle stalls completely in traffic and must be manually restarted by the driver. This has happened multiple times and is reproducible. The failed component is the Auto Idle Stop/engine restart system. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others has been put at risk multiple times because the vehicle stalled at traffic lights in active traffic, leaving me unable to accelerate through an intersection. The problem has been confirmed by Honda Marysville dealership. The dealer stated they could not repair the issue and advised me to modify my driving behavior as a workaround. No repair was performed. The vehicle has been inspected by the selling dealership. A message appears during the failure telling me to restart the car. The problem first appeared within the first year of ownership on a brand new vehicle with basically zero miles at purchase. The cause appears to be a defect in the Auto Idle Stop restart system that fails under specific braking conditions.

ODI #11728188UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE

When stopped at a red light, the vehicle’s auto off system turned the engine off. When the light turned green and I removed my foot from the brake, the engine stalled and would not restart. I pushed the start button several times, put the vehicle in park, pushed the start button a few more times, and finally got it to restart. Luckily, this happened leaving my neighborhood and not in a more precarious situation. This has happened approximately 20 times now. I’ve had the vehicle inspected by the dealer. They could not replicate the issue, but acknowledged that Honda knows it is an issue. They aren’t willing to fix it until there is a recall on the vehicles. In the meantime, I have a one year old vehicle that sputters and struggles to restart more often than not. I have had the vehicle stall like this after the auto off system turned the engine off when trying to merge into traffic on the interstate. I had a near miss to an accident at that time because the vehicle stalled and would not restart.

ODI #11727396ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

This vehicle comes with idle stop. Many times especially at red light, the idle stop switches off the engine but then it does not restart automatically. We have to switch off the car and then restart it again. This takes some time. In the meantime, it is the panic with cars honking behind us.

ODI #11727491ENGINE

I was stopped at a stop light and the idle stop function activated, turning off the engine, as designed. However, when the light turned green and I released the brake, the vehicle stalled out. I had to completely turn off the vehicle and restart it.

ODI #11726996ENGINE

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has had trouble turning on since it has been about 9 months old. It doesn't always turn on from being off. It doesn't always turn on when the vehicle is already on and the auto-start-stop system turns the engine off. More often than not it struggles to start but eventually does. I took it in for service and the dealership replaced the battery. It continued to not start. The new battery did not improve the symptoms. I scheduled another appointment for service and the dealership kept lying and gaslighting me into believing that they did something to improve the symptoms. They claimed to have updated the computer system software/firmware versions. I asked which ones were updated and they said that none were, it was all up to date. They claimed to have "reset" the auto-start-stop system. I asked how that would improve performance when the vehicle doesn't start from being off as well. The vehicle is unsafe to drive. It turns off at stop lights, stop signs, in medians when I am trying to make turns. The engine not restarting in parking lots from a complete stop is also very concerning. I hate and fear my Honda and I am scared to drive it. I have taken it to multiple dealerships to get it fixed and none will do anything. I have a video recorded after this occurred at a red light. The video shows the status of the vehicle and attempts to restart it. This was recorded February 19th 2026.

ODI #11726604ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

Vehicle failed to restart after Auto Idle Stop engaged while stopped in traffic. The engine shut off as expected but did not restart when releasing the brake pedal. A warning message appeared briefly on the dashboard but could not be fully read due to traffic conditions. The vehicle remained unresponsive until I shifted into Park and manually restarted the engine. This has occurred intermittently. The vehicle was previously evaluated by a dealer for the same issue, and the battery was replaced at approximately 15,000 miles. The problem has continued to occur after battery replacement. This creates a safety concern due to inability to move the vehicle in active traffic.

ODI #11726229ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has failed multiple times in the middle of the road when coming to a complete stop. Auto idle engages and when I try to press the gas the car malfunctions. I have to turn off the car and turn it back on again for it to start. Also at times the interior of the car will start to smell like gas.

ODI #11726062ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

At a stoplight vehicle turned off and gave a battery light and vehicle lost all power and placed vehicle in park. A warning message came up very quickly about something wrong with the auto start/stop system on display. Vehicle remained off until after opening door and pressing engine start stop button multiple times along with depressing and releasing brake pedal multiple times. This occurred the first time in late February 2026 then again on 3/21/26. Vehicle has 46,880 miles currently.

Auto off system malfunctioning at stoplights. Happened 4 times in 10 days. Remove brake to accelerate and van is no longer in drive. Dash says to depressed brake to engage drive. Do this and will not go into drive. Need to turn vehicle off and back on to be able to place van in drive. One time it would not engage in drive and was able to depress brake and get back in drive but dash kept flashing “brake.” Afraid I will get rear ended at a stoplight

Auto Idle Stop has malfunctioned several times causing me to get stuck at an intersection with warning lights flashing causing me to manually shift to “park” or shut down entirely to get it to restart. I was in the vehicle with my three kids and the light turned green and I could not move in heavy traffic. We took the vehicle into the Honda for service and they replaced my battery and did a full system check and battery reload test. Since replacing the battery, it has happened three times in 2 months. The remote start will not start when I try to get vehicle to start when outside the vehicle.

When stopped, my 2025 Honda Odyssey often fails to restart after the auto-idle stop engages. The engine stops, and fails to restart, and lights flash on the screen. I have to then turn the car all the way off, and on again, a process that can take upwards of 15 seconds. The issue happens daily. It will happen on the highway. Additionally, the button to disable the auto-idle engine stop is unreliable and sometimes doesnt work

ODI #11722359ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

This vehicle is a 1 year old (2025) Honda Odyssey with roughly 11,000 miles. On two separate occasions now, the auto start-stop feature has caused the engine to die altogether. On both occasions, the vehicle stopped at a red light in a busy intersection, the auto start-stop feature turned off the engine (intentionally), but when the light turned green and my foot came off the brake and onto the gas pedal, the vehicle died entirely. A number of lights and an error message illuminated on the dash board. From my online searches, it seems as though this is a very common issue. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Auto start-stop / engine. No not available. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Having your vehicle die at a busy intersection or stop sign is a huge risk. It can cause others to try and swerve around you, or it can cause someone not paying attention to rear end you. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The vehicle will be brought to the dealer in the coming days. Unfortunately this is my only vehicle and I cannot afford to lose it for an extended amount of time, therefore I have to prolong inspection and servicing. The issue has happened to me twice, and has happened to countless others online. According to others on the internet, the dealers are typically slow to address this issue, and even when "addressed" the issues seem to continue. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, see #3. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warnings prior to the engine cutting out altogether. Only a message after the failures. In both cases I do not remember what the messages said because I was scrambling to restart my car in a busy intersection.

ODI #11722045STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES

What happened? While driving my 2025 Honda Odyssey, the engine failed to restart during an Auto Idle Stop event at a 4-way stop/intersection. When releasing the brake to take my right-of-way, the engine stalled completely. The vehicle became immobilized, the power steering went heavy/stiff, and the brake pedal became difficult to depress. I had to manually cycle the ignition by shifting to "Park" and pressing the "Start" button multiple times to regain power while traffic was waiting. This has occurred twice. What component or system failed or malfunctioned? The Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system and the Starter/Charging System. A service technician recently documented a "slow crank" during routine maintenance, suggesting the battery is unable to handle the restart load. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle stalled during a right-of-way transition (green light/4-way stop). This created an immediate risk. The loss of power steering and the stiffened brake pedal could have made the vehicle nearly impossible to maneuver manually on an incline during the failure. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? A dealership technician confirmed a "slow crank" symptom during a multi-point inspection, though they could not reproduce an issue. The battery tested good. Were there any warning lamps or symptoms before failure? Yes. A "slow crank" was noted by a technician when attempting to start my vehicle to check my vehicle mileage. During the stall itself, a red exclamation point warning appeared on the dashboard.

ODI #11720903ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION

I see the NHTSA is aware of the issue with Honda Odyssey AutoStart failing to restart the engine which causes the car to need to be restarted fully while stopped in the middle of traffic. I had this issue many times, my car was serviced with a new battery and 2 months laters its starting again. As an aside one of the front parking sensors will randomly go off which can often cause me to turn off the array. Cleaning didnt help.

ODI #11720930ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE

Vehicle stalled and shut down in traffic after the Auto Idle Stop function engaged at a red light turning the vehicle off and attempting to turn back on. All warning lights flashed. Vehicle would not turn on until after multiple attempts pressing ignition. This has happened multiple (3-4) times over a few months period. Honda dealership was unable to recreate incident but did identify difficulty with engine starting (i.e. slow crank) when manually turning on ignition; however, diagnostics found no issues.

ODI #11720825FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

With adaptive cruise control engaged and set on any of the four options, my odyssey’s speed slows down for a short time period then speeds up again as I approach the vehicle I intend to pass. This happens when my odyssey is about a car length behind the vehicle I intend to pass. This happens when I’m passing a vehicle on the left or right side. This doesn’t happen every time I pass a vehicle with adaptive cruse control engaged. I had this odyssey in a Honda dealership shop today, February 26, 2026, to hopefully fix this issue. I can’t confirm this but was told by the service agent at the dealership that when this happens, the brake lights will turn on. The fix the dealership service recommended was to set the adaptive cruse control to the minimum following distance setting. I’m going to quote the service technician’s written comment word for word. “Have found this to be a pretty normal symptom of the adaptive cruse system.” I take that as meaning, the service technician has seen this before and it is normal for this vehicle. If this is “normal”, there is a major safety issue with this odyssey. On the way home from the appointment at the dealership service department I had the adaptive cruse control at it’s closest following setting. I passed a vehicle on the left and this issue happened again. When I got home, I called the service manager and told him my odyssey did have the same issue of slowing down even though the adaptive cruse control was set to the closest following distance setting. One more thing to note, the service technician did take my odyssey for a test drive and did experience and there for confirm the above stated issue with the vehicle slowing down. I did speak with the service manager at the Honda dealership about this issue. He was unaware of any other vehicle with this issue and said he would check into it and get back to me. I purchased this odyssey new on January 16, 2025. This problem existed since the day I have owned it.

Yesterday, 02/23/2026 the van left myself and the kids stranded at walmart. it would not start for anything yet the lights and radio work and acted like it was not the battery. i had to call my husband to come get us. we went back hours later to jump it and it started. something is faulty with the started or electrical system to start it. i have another appointment to test the battery and i know its going to test good because i just had this done a month ago and it still hesitates to start. i am not impressed at all and readying online that i am not the only one having this problem. it needs looked into.

Over a period of the last several months when the auto idle stop engages at intersections (red lights, stop signs, etc) the vehicle will intermittently fail to restart. The vehicle stalls entirely and goes into a state where you are unable to restart the vehicle for anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes. This is a very dangerous situation and each time have had other motorists honking and frustrated that the vehicle is not going when the light turns green. The vehicle is currently at the Honda dealership for the third time to attempt to repair this issue. The first time it was returned to me and I was told no issues found, the second time (after multiple more failures on road) was told the battery was faulty. The battery was replaced but the failures to restart continue. I can see that there are many claims of this same issue with Honda, however in our experience with this vehicle, very little has been done by Honda to solve this major safety issue.

The idle stop feature sometimes fails to reengage / restart the engine. One time, the van failed to restart and the vehicle completely locked up while I was in an exit ramp to the freeway. I had to turn the van off and turn it back on to get it to shift into drive and go. Similar events have happened a number of times, since the summer of 2025. We have taken it to the dealer twice now, and have been told to "monitor" it. We found the NHTSA report #EA25004 and believe this is the issue we are experiencing. Occasionally, the idle stop will restart, but it's a very violent restart (car sputters and chokes in restart, sounds like it might stall). The car will make a warning light flash and give an error message, but it always clears too quickly to read it.

Complaint Description: While driving my 2025 Honda Odyssey, the Auto Idle‑Stop system engaged in the middle of an intersection at a traffic light, shutting the engine off as designed. When I released the brake pedal, the engine failed to restart, leaving the vehicle stalled in traffic. The dashboard displayed warning indicators including the battery light, and the only way to move the vehicle was to turn off the car completely several time and try to manually restart the engine. This issue has occurred multiple times and poses a serious safety risk, especially when it happens in intersections or heavy traffic. I almost got hit by an oncoming car! On each occasion, surrounding traffic was forced to maneuver around my vehicle, creating the potential for a rear‑end or a side collision. this has been happening for a long time now and these instances are occurring almost weekly at this point. They are increasing. I have seen that other 2025 Odyssey owners are reporting the same issue — engine shuts off after Auto Idle‑Stop activates and will not restart — sometimes requiring a full restart and causing dangerous traffic situations on carfax.com. Based on similar NHTSA‑documented complaints and investigations into Honda Auto Idle‑Stop restart failures, this appears consistent with a known defect pattern involving stalled engines and failure to restart after idle‑stop engagement. (lawinfo.com and edmunds.com) The dealership has already replaced my low pressure fuel pump and state that they are fulkly aware of the issue and have not provided a permanent fix, and the problem continues to occur unpredictably. My wife and 4 children are in this car all the time. This defect could easily lead to an accident if the vehicle becomes immobilized in moving traffic. I am reporting this to ensure it is documented as a potential safety defect requiring investigation and mitigation.

Since purchasing this vehicle brand new off the truck, we have had it back at the dealership multiple times ,we've taken it for the plug in console not working for firesticks, a sensor not working on the passenger side door and claiming it to be open, the sliding door not working correctly, the doors locking and refusing to unlock, battery draining, ac not working, stalling, dying at lights, slamming on its own brakes with nothing around, transmission acting weird, it putting itself in to sport mode, transmission sticking, doors not unlocking or not locking, sensors going off, random errors on dash, screens not working, Car play not working, suspension popping, steering being wiggly and loose, brakes squeeling. Today we were told by the dealership "he saw the damage that is resulting in needing to replace the steering column. With that being said, it is considered a safety hazard to drive this vehicle with the condition the steering column is in." This is after multiple times of saying nothing is wrong to we have to charge the battery to you need a new starter to this.

I brought my van in for service because, when stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle enters automatic shutdown as designed; however, when I release the brake, the engine does not restart. Instead of restarting automatically, the vehicle remains off, and I have had to perform a hard start because it will not crank on its own. The van is a brand-new 2025 Honda that was purchased new. After inspection, I was informed that the battery would need to be replaced. During the same visit, I also reported a vibration issue. After checking this, I was told that the vehicle needs new shocks and that the tires show wear. I was further informed that the tires will not be covered. Given the age of the vehicle and the fact that it was purchased brand new, I am concerned about the need for a battery replacement, suspension repairs, and tire wear at this stage, as well as the decision not to cover the tires.

The sensor in the front got covered and shut down the speed control, warning lights of crossing lane, detecting cars on right or left. I get told every time can’t duplicate. The automatic bright lights got stuck on after only a month of having this car. Dealership says it was off. Well it wasn’t and they still do not work. Speed limit sign on dashboard will go up to 85 miles per hour this is in a 25 mile area. Again they say can’t duplicate. Brakes feel mushy to myself and husband. Again we’re told there is nothing wrong with it. When the speed controls are set there is at least 2 miles difference with my Waze speed and the vehicles speed. I’m told this is normal. Well it’s not. Something is wrong with the electrical system. I owned a Honda Odyssey before and I never had any issues with that one. We’re getting ready to drive to Florida and I’m terrified the system will shut down again. I was told that having road salt on a sensor is not a warranty issue. Well, it is because of poor design. My wife and I purchased a new 2025 Honda Odyssey Van as it currently has about 11,000 miles and we both have noticed a front end vibration/rattle/noise that can be heard and felt in the steering wheel at varying speeds in the front suspension which leads me to believe as an engineer there are issues with sway bar end links, bad strut mounts, or loose control arm bushings that are especially noticeable over any bumps. This issue could pose a serious safety issues in dealing with failed suspension or steering that could cause a potential wreck or loss of control of a vehicle and result in a product liability suit for all parties involved especially given suspension and steering are considered critical auto parts in nature. The problem has been reproduced with my making an appointment at Watermark Honda located at 3201 Park Ave, Paducah, KY 42001 on November 19th, 2025 with the Master Service Tech Caleb Buchanan and Service Advisor Harley Littrell both driving the vehicle and acknowledging the noise and vibration. I also have any recorded video while driving at 5-10 mph in the parking lot of Watermark Honda that was shared and viewed by Harley Littrell. The vehicle was inspected with some strut bolts and other front end component bolts being torqued down the same day with the issue not being resolved. Harley/Caleb noted that they were dealing with the same issue on another 2025 Honda Odyssey on the lot to be sold and they were trying to address issues. As of follow-up appointment on 12/11/25, Harley noted this van had several front end parts replaced and it still made noise with this van not being able to be sold to the public. I was advised by Harley to contact American Honda and to file this report. See uploaded video below.

Dear NHTSA, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2025 Honda Odyssey, which has been diagnosed with a transmission failure requiring full replacement due to faulty internal seals. The vehicle is less than one year old, and this type of premature failure raises serious safety concerns. I first became aware that something might be wrong during a routine oil change on November 11, when technicians noticed signs that the transmission might be leaking or malfunctioning. I continued to monitor the vehicle, and on November 28, I was informed that the entire transmission must be replaced due to faulty seals inside the transmission assembly. A critical component like the transmission should not fail this early in the life of the vehicle, and a structural defect such as faulty seals may indicate a manufacturing issue that could affect other vehicles of the same model and year. Information from the dealership: SHEEHY HONDA OF ALEXANDRIA Diagnosed transmission failure caused by faulty seals Recommended repair: Complete transmission replacement Explanation: Premature failure of internal transmission seals leading to fluid loss and unsafe operation Repairs completed so far: Diagnostic inspections confirming failure This vehicle is used to transport children, and a sudden transmission failure presents a significant safety risk. For a new vehicle to require a full transmission replacement within its first year of use is highly concerning. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue to determine whether other 2025 Honda Odyssey vehicles may also be experiencing similar premature transmission failures. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I can provide repair documentation, inspection notes, photos, or any additional information upon request. The vehicle intermittently fails to restart after the auto start/stop stopped the engine. This happened several times when stopped at a traffic signal, nearly causing an accident when cars behind expected to move after the traffic signal turned green. There were no warnings or indications prior to the failure to start. Multiple attempts to restart the vehicle failed until at least a minute or so had elapsed. The vehicle has also intermittently failed to start after being parked for a few minutes after being driven for 20 minutes or so. The starter has generally sounded weak when starting, and when it fails to start it sounds like the engine tries to start turning for a fraction of a second before it stops trying to crank the engine. It almost seems like the start duration is too short or the ECU thinks the engine has successfully started when it hasn't. I brought the vehicle into the dealership to have this checked, and they replaced the battery saying it was bad. However, the failures to start continued to happen shortly after. I returned the vehicle to the dealership to be checked again. They have not yet identified anything that could be causing the issue. They claim the battery and starter test good. Based on similar complaints, it seems that this is an issue with many of these vehicles. Honda needs to identify the root cause of this failure to start issue.

The idle stop system is malfunctioning. I had it inspected once previously and now trying to get it inspected again for the same occurring issue. The dealership continues to tell me to turn off the idle stop feature on the vehicle. My safety was put at risk because of the vehicle stalling and not kicking back on while being stopped at a redlight on a busy 4 lane highway multiple times now. The first time, I was by myself. The second time, my 8-month-old was in the vehicle with me. This causes a lot of panic as there are impatient drivers around me since I am unable to move my vehicle. I fear that this could happen on a freeway if there was construction, an accident or even while trying to turn in an intersection and getting hit because I can’t move my vehicle and often have my two small children with me. The first time the idle stop stalled, it occurred twice in a week. The first time was rather quick, and the engine kicked over quickly so I did not think anything more of it. The second time which happened a few days later (9/17/25), took about 5 minutes to get the engine going again and moving on the road (4 lane highway). I took it back to my local Honda dealership where they performed a diagnostic test and discovered the battery had dipped down to 7.22V when trying to restart, the battery failed the battery test and ended up being replaced with a new battery. The idle stop issue has now happened for a third time (10/21/25), with the same issues occurring and I am waiting to be able to get back into Honda. The vehicle has only been looked at by my local Honda dealership. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other notifications prior to the failure. I received a warning on the dashboard after the events occurred on how to start the vehicle. This is very disappointing as a new Honda owner. My husband and I decided on Honda over other car companies due to their reliability and this has now become a constant worry.

Description of the Problem I am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety concern and poor quality repair on my 2025 Honda Odyssey, which I purchased new less than one year ago. 1. Engine Auto Idle Stop / Starter Failure Issue The vehicle suddenly shut down when the “Auto Idle Stop” feature was activated. This incident occurred multiple times, and I was unable to restart the engine until several attempts later. This creates a dangerous situation, especially in traffic or intersections. When I contacted the dealer, they confirmed that the issue is caused by a starter motor failure, and the replacement part will not be available until early November — meaning I must drive for over a month with this feature turned off. Many other owners have reported similar problems online, which strongly suggests a potential defect that should qualify for a safety recall. 2. Water Leak and Poor Quality Repair My vehicle also experienced a water leak from the roof area. The dealer attempted to fix it by simply applying sealing material on the roof molding (see attached photos). The repair looks extremely unprofessional, and I requested them to properly replace or reinstall the roof molding, but they refused. This type of repair is unacceptable for a new vehicle of this class and price. 3. Honda’s Unsatisfactory Response I contacted Honda Customer Service (1-800-999-1009) and spoke directly with a representative. However, I was told that: They cannot extend the warranty. They cannot offer any compensation or goodwill service. They cannot provide me with a record or copy of our phone conversation (even though they recorded it). I have taken it to the dealership already once, but they said they weren’t able to reproduce it. I will be taking it back to the dealer to try again.

The issue involves the auto start/stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey Touring. When the feature is turned on, the vehicle intermittently fails to restart after coming to a complete stop. The problem does not occur when the start/stop system is disabled. During normal driving, the engine shuts off as expected at a stoplight, but when I release the brake, the vehicle hesitates or fails to crank, leaving it stalled in traffic. The Honda dealership confirmed the issue and stated that the starter motor needs to be replaced. The van has approximately 9,300 miles. No warning lights or messages appear before the failure. The problem occurs only when the start/stop system is active. This presents a safety concern, as the vehicle can lose power and fail to move when traffic lights change or when merging, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or blocking intersections. The vehicle is currently being inspected and repaired by the Honda dealer and is available for inspection upon request.

Two concerning and dangerous malfunctions are occurring. 1.)When car is stopped at a light for more than 45 seconds the car engine shuts off, when I press on the gas the dashboard lights up and displays a battery light and advises me to restart the car. The car struggles to turn over. 2.) The car struggles to start on initial start as well. The dealership replaced the battery and it continues to happen, they advised me to disengage idol stop every time I start my vehicle to save the starter and prevent the car from stalling. This is obviously a problem with the Honda idol start that needs to be addressed. There are multiple threads in online forums about this issue with Honda.

Three times now since buying my van about 6 months ago brand new, I come to a stop light, the engine turns off, but then it won't come back on when the light turns green. I have had to put my hazards on while I frantically push the start button multiple times. Eventually it will start up but takes 1-2 minutes. I brought it into the dealer the first time and they blamed it on a weak battery. After it happened 2 more times, they are replacing the starter but I'm afraid that's not going to fix it. While I wait, i just have to turn off the idle start/stop button every time I start my van.

The idle engine feature is defective. Often, when stopped and the engine goes idle, it will not restart when the driver releases the brake. The van stalls, and the driver is forced to move the vehicle into park and start the engine again. This is dangerous and stressful because the driver behind you expects you to go, especially when the light turns green, but you are stalled, potentially leading to rear-end accidents.

I was traveling at about 65 mph, the outside temperature was 93 deg F and the sky was clear. The highway was smooth and there was no construction in the area which would have produced loose pebbles or rocks. The explosion was like an artillery piece had fired overhead. I was lucky to have maintained control of the vehicle and the moonroof sliding cover was closed preventing broken glass from showering down on my wife and me. The next day I brought the car to the dealership (Royal Honda, Metairie, LA)to report the defect and to have the car repaired. I was told by the dealer that the manufacturer does not inspect failures such as this one and that Honda declined to repair the damage under warranty even though the minivan had less that 4,000 miles on it and 3 months old. I am reporting a recurring issue with my 2025 Honda Odyssey, which exhibits difficulty starting the engine. Approximately two months after purchasing the vehicle in Dec 2024, the original battery failed and was replaced under warranty. However, the vehicle continues to experience problems when attempting to start. When I press the start button, the engine hesitates, cranks slowly, or feels as though it nearly fails to start. This issue occurs intermittently, regardless of weather conditions or the duration the vehicle has been parked. No warning lights or error messages have appeared on the dashboard The problem has occurred multiple times, most recently on Friday August 15th 2025, and creates a safety concern, as the vehicle’s unreliable starting could leave me stranded in potentially hazardous situations, such as remote locations or adverse weather. I have not yet had the vehicle inspected by a dealer for this specific issue, but I plan to schedule a service appointment to diagnose the problem. The prior battery replacement suggests potential issues with the electrical system, starter, or related components, possibly linked to the auto start/stop system currently under NHTSA investigation for 2018–2025 Honda Odyssey models. Additionally when driving down the road especially at low speeds the engine hesitates as if it’s not getting enough gasoline. Lastly the AppleCarplay screen and all other associated screens randomly go out. I have been to the dealership 3 times for repairs and they give me the run around saying they don’t notice anything so Honda won’t pay for anything and send me on my way.

I was stuck in traffic frantically trying to get the van to restart and eventually was able to get it. This is a new van I’ve had less than a year. I took it to the dealer after the first incident and described the problem. They kept it for more than a day troubleshooting and didn’t find a solution. Verbally they recommended using the button that turns off the Auto Idle Stop feature that must be pressed each time the van is started to turn the off the feature. I’ve done that most of the time since, but I happened to forget this week and then it happened a second time where I was unexpectedly stuck in traffic with the engine not coming back on.

On June 14th 2025, I reversed up my driveway, uphill, shifted to neutral to allow the vehicle to roll downhill a bit so I could straighten it out. While rolling forward, the transmission was jammed into park with no warning or interaction from me, causing my head to sling forwards in a whiplash fashion from the abrupt change in inertia. This was both harmful to me, to the transmission, and is a major defect. Engaging a transmission into park while moving is reckless, harmful and extremely dangerous. The failing component is most likely the transmission control unit and is available for inspection upon request, but has not been inspected by anyone other than myself. The problem is reproducible by me.

I am an engineer and my respect of the laws of probability makes me a cautious driver. I've had m+y 2025 Honda Odyssey for six months, but only driven it 500 miles since it cannot be trusted. I stopped at a light waiting to safely make a left hand turn. I began my turn with enough time for two vehicles to follow me. After pressing the accelerator the vehicle slowly responded. The stall left me in the intersection, so I accelerated hard to avoid being killed. The sudden acceleration was difficult to control and almost resulted in me going off the road. I've come to learn this resulted from a Honda design decision. They have a feature called "Auto Idle Stop" that is ON BY DEFAULT. I was never informed of this feature and believe this was a reckless, or should we say reckmore, decision. This was clearly a deadly design decision. The USG must fix this. In addition, the USG should charge the engineers, and their management, for reckless endangerment.
