In February of 2025 I was driving on the highway and my car stopped accelerating and the “ASC system required” light turned on. The RPM stayed at 4,000-5,000 and my car dropped from 60MPH to 20MPH. I had to drive on the side of the highway 20 minutes home like this. I took the car into a shop and they said the exhaust and catalytic converter was clogged and replaced it. It ran okay after that for about 3 weeks and then the same thing started to happen again. I have had to pull onto the side of the highway about 10-15 times as of writing this to restart my car/drive home going 20-30MPH. I brought it to the Mitsubishi dealership last week and they said I will need a whole new exhaust manifold, muffler, and catalytic converter due to it “being clogged” and quoted me just over 6,000 for it to be fixed even though I just replaced all of this in February. They did not give me an explanation as to why this is happening or explaining what is causing the “ASC system service required” light to go off.

Airbags should never fail, nor should brakes. no matter miles or salt on road. if salt corodes a certain part than it must be an aloy that will not corrode. also brake lines should not ever rust they too should be coated with epoxy or alloy metals that are impervious to salt...

The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven to a nearby independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the PCM needed to be updated. The contact stated that the failure was related to TSB Number: 13−13−008. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at her own expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 110,400.

The traction control warning light and an unknown warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the map sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the vehicle was not covered under Mitsubishi Campaign Number: SR−16−006. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was unavailable.

I was on the freeway and all of the sudden the transmission stopped working and I was unable to get to the side of the road safely do to loss of power and traffic conditions. There was transmission warning light that came on and right after that when I pressed on the acceleration the engine would rev, but there was no reaction to the gears. This resulted in me being stuck in an active lane of traffic and nearly being hit several times. I called the police and informed them because I didn’t want to cause an accident but do to another accident I was stranded for 50 minutes in the active lane of traffic. Apparently this is a known issue with this transmission but the manufacturer is not responding and issued a recall like it needs to. Something like this could get someone seriously injured or killed! I’m lucky no one was injured in my situation but on a very busy freeway something like this could cause a huge pile up if a car all of the sudden is just stopped in the middle of the road. Who knows how many people could be hurt or die in a situation like that happening.

Transmission has filled me twice now. The first time the transmission out was when the car is at approximately 42,000 miles. The first time it went out we were able to pull over safely, but it just gave out while going high speeds on the highway. The second time was luckily in my neighborhood where we were able to coast it back home. Both times not much warning was given. The first time was the one that put us and others at risk being on a road with 60+ speed limits.

I rear-ended a car after they came to a complete stop at a green light on a road with a 50mph speed limit. I attempted to stop but in the rain my car hydroplaned, and I hit them. Upon impact my seatbelt did not lock up and my airbags didn't deploy despite the fact that I was going at least 20mph. I ended up hitting the steering wheel pretty hard and still have pain, spasms, and soreness.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,000.

ONE FORUM MEMBER STATES AN ETACS CODING ENTRY CALLED 'REAR_CMR_PRST' SAYS IT IS 'NOT PRESENT.' I FEEL THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE, PARTICULARLY WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PUBLIC PARKING SPOT. I REALIZE THIS IS A CONVENIENCE ITEM FOR MY YEAR OF VEHICLE (2014), BUT SINCE THE CAMERON GULBRANSEN KIDS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ACT OF 2007 BECAME LAW AS OF MAY 1, 2018, THESE ITEMS ARE STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON ALL NEW VEHICLES. FROM READING THE FORUM, ANY REPAIRS ARE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONSUMER, AND MY LOCAL MITSUBISHI SHOPS HAVE NO IDEA OF WHAT IS WRONG AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. MANY IN THE FORUM MENTION 'VEHICLE SIGNAL CHECK' MENU, ETACS PROGRAMMING, CAN COMMUNICATIONS, CODING DATA, AND OTHER WIRING INFORMATION THE AVERAGE CONSUMER IS OBLIVIOUS OF. IF REARVIEW CAMERAS ARE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT DUE TO PASSAGE OF THE ABOVE LAW, SHOULDN'T THIS ISSUE BE A SAFETY RECALL FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECT AT MANUFACTURER EXPENSE? I HAVE SOME HISTORY IN THE PAST THAT THE FOLLOWING DAY THAT I GOT THE CAR FROM THE DEALER I RETURNED IT TO THEM BECAUSE I HEARED A POPPING SOUND ON THE ENGINE PART WHEN I STOP THE ENGINE, THEY SAID ITS JUST NORMAL BUT WITH ALL THE CARS THAT I HAD I NEVER EXPERIENCE THIS SO UNUSUAL AND THE STATIC ON THE CAR SEAT EVERYTIME I COME OUT OF THE CAR I EVEN TRANSFER THE STATIC FEEL WHEN SOMEBODY TOUCH ME I AND AFTER A WEEK THEY PUT LEATHER SEAT IT IS STILL THE SAME WHAT I DID I PUT A RUG ON MY SEAT THAT LESSEN THE STATIC. EVERYTIME I BRING THE CAR ON ALL THE COMPLAINTS THEY JUST IGNORE IT AND TELLING ME ITS JUST NORMAL AND BECAUSE I NEVER BOUGHT ANY BRAND NEW CAR EXCEPT MITSUBISHI SINCE 1997 SO MY TRUST IS STILL THERE UNTIL THIS CRASH HAPPEND TO ME AND FIRST TIME IN MY ENTIRE LIFE ITS GOOD THING IT HAPPENS WITH IN MY PROPERTY WHAT IF THIS MALFUNCTION HAPPENS OUTSIDE AND I HURT SOMEBODY THAT ACCIDENT WAS TRAUMATIC TO ME I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THAT CAR ANYMORE I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY DIAGNOSED THE ECU GOING BAD. NOW, WHEN A LIGHT COMES ON, WHICH IS OFTEN, I DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA IF SOMETHING IS REALLY NOT WORKING. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE A WEEK TO GET THE PART, TODAY THEY TOLD ME THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT HAVING THIS PROBLEM WITH A SIX MONTH OLD CAR.
