I have been trying to get the recall fixed since I purchased my vehicle in July 2023. For nearly two years, I have received repeated letters from Volkswagen urging me to have the recall addressed. However, despite calling every two months to schedule an appointment, I am always told that the part is unavailable and that they have no estimated date for its arrival. I'm continually advised to call back in another two months. Last month, after calling dealerships more than ten times since purchasing the vehicle, I contacted VW Customer Service directly. They referred me to the Macon dealership, assuring me that they would assist in booking an appointment. Unfortunately, after speaking with Macon, I was once again told to call back—this time in October—when they might receive the necessary part. I am moving back to Canada at the end of August, and despite nearly two years of effort, my vehicle remains unrepaired. I am extremely dissatisfied with this situation, especially considering the severity of the issue. I live in Georgia, where the climate is hot and humid, and I avoid driving the vehicle out of fear that the airbag could deploy dangerously. Volkswagen has failed to support me through this process, and I am left with a potentially unsafe vehicle and no resolution in sight.

My car is subject to the Takata Air Bag recall. Due to the age of the vehicle, and the hot climate where I live (California), I am in fear for my safety especially with summer around the corner. "The Old Farmer's Almanac forecasts a "scorcher" with hotter-than-normal temperatures across most of the U.S., including California." Originally, I had a service appointment for 2024 but there was a shortage of parts. I showed up for my next appointment 6/4/25 to have the service done and was told that the parts are on back order nationally until at least September. Due to the nature of my situation, my case was escalated to their RCM where I was told that nothing could be done. I asked about a loaner vehicle or a rental reimbursement until the parts arrive and they told me it was not possible. I find this to be extremely unreasonable given the severity of the recall. There are deaths and serious injuries linked to this defect and I am in constant fear when I drive my vehicle. No one should have to knowingly take this kind of risk every time they commute to work. I have spoken to multiple agents and have reached a dead end. I hope that a solution can be found for my case.

The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle was in a minor accident that was rear-ended by another vehicle. No one was injured. The other party claimed responsibility and the vehicle was repaired and the other party paid for the repairs. The problem is with Volkswagen not having the OEM safety equipment available to complete the repairs. The specific part is a spoiler attached to the rear trunk lid that increases the visibility of the brake light built into the rear trunk lid. In traffic this vehicle has only two brake lights within the rear fenders lower to the ground. The spoiler attached above the brake light that is attached at the top of the rear trunk lid, sits above the tail lights and the brake light can be seen by the driver in the vehicle behind the VW. VW claims that this part is on backorder. It is not available within the United States. I believe Volkswagen is refusing to manufacture this critical safety part for repairs of their vehicle. I have been told by several dealers that this part is not available and is on back order. I have tried to locate this part from VW dealers in Texas and out of state also. They all tell me the same thing. Its on back order. I understand this vehicle model is out of production but is being reintroduced again in 2025. Volkswagen should be responsible for providing original parts, especially critical safety parts. Hopefully the NTSA can bring this problem to Volkswagens attention and they will make the responsible safety decision and provide a critical safety component of this vehicle to the customers of their company. Thank you.

Component or System Failure: The specific component that failed or malfunctioned in my 2015 VW Beetle 1.8T Classic PZEV is the timing belt, which caused bent valves resulting in the engine seizing up, rendering it inoperable. It is available for inspection upon request. Safety Implications: The failure of the engine posed a significant risk to my safety and the safety of others. When the engine failed while I was driving on the freeway, it resulted in a sudden loss of power and alarming knocking sounds. This sudden loss of power on a busy highway endangered my life and the lives of other drivers around me. Confirmation by Dealer or Service Center: The problem has been confirmed by a Volkswagen dealership. I had the vehicle towed to Bill marines Volkswagen dealership for diagnosis, and they assessed that the engine had "jumped time" and the valves were bent, rendering the car undrivable. Inspections by Manufacturer, Authorities, or Others: The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any other relevant authorities at this point. However, I have sought assistance and evaluation from a Volkswagen dealership, which is an authorized service center for the brand. They were the first to diagnose the catastrophic engine failure. Warning Lamps, Messages, or Symptoms: Prior to the engine failure, there were no warning lamps or messages indicating a problem. There were no noticeable symptoms or signs of an impending failure. The failure occurred suddenly while driving on the freeway, without any prior indication of trouble. Please let me know if there is any additional information or documentation required to assist with the investigation. I am committed to providing accurate and reliable information to support the resolution of this matter.

This is a dangerous issue but VW is doing nothing but telling us, as required. So, what are we supposed to do? Drive an unsafe car or wait indefinitely for VW to get around to having a remedy? Neither seems reasonable nor acceptable. It's supposedly related to humidity and/or heat, and my car has lived most of its life in Hawaii and Arizona, so ... How can they just say, "Your car has a safety defect that may kill you, but we aren't prepared to do anything about it" and nothing else? Shouldn't they owe us all at least a rental until the car can be made safe? Furthermore, in the recall notice they sent today, dated February 2023, despite the recall actually being from 1/5/23, they say in the same paragraph, "Don't call the dealer, they can't help" and "As always, call the dealer for help." What? Insult to possibly severe injury or death, CARFAX notified us over a month ago, and LoJack did yesterday, and when I contacted the dealer over a month ago, they claimed there was NO RECALL, despite my giving them the recall info from your site (Manufacturer Recall Number 69EM / NHTSA Recall Number 22V945), and today they said there's only a PENDING recall. So, please, tell me what we are to do, let my son drive this car or just not have a car? Also, they say it can explode, sending metal fragments flying, but is this if and when it deploys (and fails) in an accident or just randomly, whenever, just driving along? Thank you for any information, guidance, and prodding of VW. This if not fixed very quickly will certainly end our long relationship with VW.

This vehicle experiences faults with the camshaft advance system randomly. At 70,000 miles this seems to be abnormal. At times upon start up or slow speed operation the vehicle will stumble, misfire and the engine may stall if the rpms arent increased. Fault codes indicate a faulty camshaft sensor or solenoid valve. VW tells me this isn't covered by any emissions warranty and could be caused by dirty oil. My own searches on the internet have found multiple complaints about this issue with the 1.8 and 2.0 engine. Camshaft timing most certainly effects emissions and this part in my opinion would be able to function properly between oil changes. A slow speed engine stall could be dangerous due to the lack of power steering .

Key was unable to move to turn engine off, and was stuck in ignition of my 2015 VW Beetle with under 60,000 miles on odometer. I sat in a parking lot for 15-20 minutes Googling recommendations about how to turn off my car! I am scheduled 7/27/21 at Cochran VW for an assessment of this issue. I have read online that there are numerous complaints of this issue and for many years now. There is currently a warranty extension for the steering lock assembly, but I am not sure that this will cover my issue. If this is a continuous issue over many years, how has there not been a recall? Thank goodness for Google and the numerous complaints about this issue (with numerous suggestions to shut engine off), or I’d still be in the parking lot at the grocery store. Sorry, I don’t have photos or documentation of my endlessly running car. I’ll have more information after the VW dealership diagnostics.

KEEP CHECKING BACK WITH STATUS AFTER TURNING IT IN AND FOUND OUT PARTS WEREN'T EVEN ON ORDER TILL 2 WEEKS AFTER TURNING CAR IN FOR PROBLEM. IT'S BEEN 2 1/2 MONTHS AND NO STATUS AS OF YET FOR PARTS. THEY SAY THEY CHECKED AROUND THE COUNTRY FOR PARTS AND THERES NONE. I FOUND A SYSTEM ON THE INTERNET THAT CAN BE PURCHASED TO FIX THE PROBLEM..THEY WILL NOT GO THAT WAY.

THE IGNITION KEY WILL NOT TURN OFF THE CAR AND IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. IT WILL NOT TURN BACK AS YOU NORMALLY WOULD TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND REMOVE THE KEY. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT THE CAR OFF IS TO PULL THE FUEL PUMP RELAY/FUSE. THE CAR CAN BE LOCKED MANUALLY USING THE OTHER KEY IN THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE. THAN THE BATTERY MUST BE DISCONNECTED IN ORDER TO PREVENT DRAIN FROM THE ACCESSORIES.

RANDOMLY YOU CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAR. YOU TRY AND TURN THE KEY AND IT IS STUCK IN THE ON POSITION. YOU CAN TURN TOWARD START, BUT NOT OFF. YOU MAY HAVE TO PUT IT IN GEAR AND DRIVE AROUND FOR A FEW MINUTES FOR IT TO TURN OFF. HAVE TRIED TO PUT IN GEAR, AND BACK OUT WITHOUT ANY LUCK, HAVE ALSO TRIED TO FORCE, BUT DO NOT WANT TO BREAK THE KEY. I GUESS IT IS THE SAME AS THE JETTA ISSUE, WHICH THEY HAVE CONFIRMED, AND ARE RESOLVING. IF YOU HAD TO SHUT OFF IN EMERGENCY YOU WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS. NOW HAPPENING A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK.

LUCKILY, AFTER DOING A FULL 360 I WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR AND PULLED OVER. I HAD TO THE CAR TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER IN WHICH THEY TOLD ME I HAD BROKE THE TIE ROD WHEN I WENT OUT OF CONTROL. THE REASON I WENT OUT OF CONTROL IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY TIE ROD THAT HAD BROKEN FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. THE WEATHER THAT DAY WAS 50 DEGREES AND HAD BEEN 57 THE DAY BEFORE MEANING ABSOLUTELY NO BLACK ICE. THE ROADS WERE FRESHLY PAVED SO THERE WERE NO POT HOLES. I WAS CHARGED $875.00 TO FIX THE CAR IN ORDER TO GET IT HOME TO MY FATHER WHOM THE CAR BELONGS TO. I AM CONCERNED FOR ANYONE IF THE FUTURE THAT MAY EXPERIENCE THIS AND HOPE THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN. SAFETY RECALL 23R1 WAS RECEIVED YET VW AND LOCAL DEALERSHIP WILL NOT MAKE REPAIRS STATING THAT THEIR NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION AND/OR I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL I HAVE ISSUES. THE NOTICE STATES THAT IT CAN "LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING". HOWEVER, THEY INSIST THAT I CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR THEY HAVE DETERMINED TO BE UNSAFE. THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE RECALL AND VW REFUSES TO SEND PARTS TO MY LOCAL SHOP TO HAVE IT FIXED STATING AGAIN THAT I NEED TO WAIT UNTIL I HAVE AN ISSUE. WE HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE TRYING TO GET THIS RESOLVED AND VW CONTINUES TO BRUSH US OFF AND TELLING US THEY WILL RESOLVE IT TOMORROW. I DRIVE 200-500 MILES A DAY FOR WORK AROUND THE STATE AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR THAT COULD UNKNOWINGLY CRASH AT ANY MOMENT. IF THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN, VW WOULD NOT HAVE ISSUED A SAFETY RECALL. PER THEIR DOCUMENTS SENT TO NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION: THE CAMSHAFT LOBE THAT CAN BREAK OFF DRIVES THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, AND IF THE PROBLEM OCCURS DRIVERS WOULD LOSE POWER ASSISTANCE AND SUFFER REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

THE BACKUP CAMERA ON MY VW BEETLE CONVERTIBLE IS SO DARK THAT IS IS VIRTUALLY USELESS. WE HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE MANAGER AGREED THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG. HE REPLACED THE CAMERA AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THEN THE MANAGER LEFT AND ANOTHER ONE CAME ON BOARD WE REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO VW AND THEY SPOKE WITH THE MANAGER ONSITE. HE TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS OK BECAUSE ALL OF THE CAMERAS WERE LIKE THAT. WE HAVE OWNED CARS PREVIOUSLY WITH BACK UP CAMERAS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. THE CAMERAS WITH GPS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I KNOW THAT 2018 THAT ALL CARS ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE A BACK UP CAMERA, BUT IF A CAR ALREADY HAS THE SAFETY FEATURE SHOULD IT NOT WORK PROPERLY?
