Deferred Failure Risk
Components and defects approaching or past their known service milestones
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

ongoing electrical and ECM communication issues with my 2018 Nissan NV2500. The vehicle is experiencing serious fault codes involving loss of communication with the ECM/PCM and transmission control systems, creating a potential safety concern and reliability issue. The diagnostic scan produced the following active codes: U0100 – Lost Communication With ECM/PCM A U1000 – CAN Communication Circuit P1815 – Manual Mode Switch/Circuit / Computer Supply Voltage These faults indicate a failure in the vehicle’s electronic communication network and engine control communication system. The issue affects drivability and raises concerns about unexpected stalling, transmission malfunction, loss of power, and overall vehicle safety. The problems appear related to defective ECM communication circuitry, CAN bus communication failure, or associated wiring/electrical components. I understand similar Nissan vehicles have experienced communication and electrical system issues, and I am requesting that Nissan investigate whether this defect qualifies for recall coverage, warranty extension, or manufacturer assistance. Example. When im on the interstate and there's a slight incline the vehicle just shuts down it's still running but loses everything like it's in limp mode.
Engine developed a knock and associated power issues as per Nissan technical bulletin NTB 19-057a. Nissan did not make owners of the affected VIN numbers aware of the issue.
The airbag light is flashing and I have had it checked with a dealer-level scan tool, but it has no codes. I have deduced that there is an issue with one of the weight sensors under the passenger seat and it is not sending a signal. I have confirmed this by noting that the Airbag Off light is luminated when I am sitting in the seat or driving with an adult passenger, so basically it is not sensing that the seat is occupied and therefore the passenger airbag would not go off in a crash even though the seat IS occupied. Is that something that a warranty or a recall should cover, since it is a safety concern involving the airbag system?
The sliding door continually gets stuck and won’t open from the inside or outside often.
Side window leaks and dealer is unable to get the replacement glass nor fix the issue in 4 months already. The leak is causing me to have to replace the window myself, likely with plexiglass, though it’s under warranty. This is unsafe and should be properly handled by the dealer in a timely manner.
OUR COMPANY HAS A 2018 NV 200, A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE WITH 100,000 MILE BUMPER-TO-BUMPER COMMERCIAL NISSAN WARRANTY. THERE ARE ABOUT 58,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. ON JANUARY, 26, 2021 WHILE DRIVING ON A SMALL RESIDENTIAL ROAD AT 5 MILES AN HOUR, THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN DEPLOYED. THE TRUCK DID NOT HIT ANYTHING AT ALL. OUR TECHNICIAN SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN WENT OFF. HE COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, HE CERTAINLY WOULD'VE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, POSSIBLY FATAL. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO WORK WITH NISSAN TO HAVE THEM SIMPLY GIVE US A LOANER TRUCK FOR THE EIGHT WEEKS THAT WILL BE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO DO A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION. I'M NOT TRYING TO CAUSE THEM TROUBLE BUT THEY TOLD ME I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF ANY LOANER TRUCK!!!!!!!. THIS IS THE WORST HANDLING OF A HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE SITUATION (NO PUN INTENDED) THAT I CAN IMAGINE. THEY ALSO SAID IT'S UP TO THEIR DISCRETION TO DECIDE IF I WOULD GET REIMBURSED. FURTHERMORE, THEY SAID I MAY BE SUBJECT TO STORAGE CHARGES AT THE LOCAL DEALER UNTIL THIS IS SETTLED. IS THIS INCREDIBLE? DAKOTA FROM THEIR ARBITRATION GROUP HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO ME. NO PERSON COULD HAVE LESS SKILLS GIVEN THE SEVERITY OF THIS INCIDENT. I ASKED FOR JUST TWO THINGS: A LOANER TRUCK AND COMMITMENT TO MAKE SURE THAT ANY DEFECTS BE NOT HIDDEN FROM THE PUBLIC. DISGRACEFUL. WHO IS SAFE IN THEIR VEHICLES????? HERE'S THE WORST PART. WHEN I TOLD THEM I DEMANDED A LOANER VEHICLE, THEY SAID THE CASE WAS CLOSED!!!!!, MR/MRS DAKOTA CALLED THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM THE CASE WAS CLOSED AND SETTLED. THEY WANT TO BURY IT. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED
