Lemon law eligibility depends on state law, number of repair attempts, and days out of service. Consult an attorney for actual eligibility.
The same components appear in both official NHTSA recalls and owner-filed complaints — a double-confirmed failure signal.
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.
One failed component has created stress on connected systems. Repair costs compound quickly — a $500 fix can become $3,000+ if cascade damage is ignored.
NHTSA VIN-specific recall lookup returned no data for this VIN. The 3 recalls below are model-wide and may or may not apply to this exact vehicle depending on production date. Verify at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
Average repair completion across 3 recalls is ~74%. Always ask the seller for dealer service records confirming each repair.

Kia has common problems on the airbags even tho my air bags is good but I want to still check it
The headlights and dashboard lose power intermittently while driving at highway speeds, specifically triggered by using the turn signal. This is ongoing since January when I started having to take it for a recalls.More things kept happening. I kept having to have more repairs. Every time I went, I told them about this and it just keeps going on. Today I took a huge list of things they should check to see why it’s doing this. This is the following list that I gave them -2017 Kia Forte - Service Request: •Issue: Headlights/dash icons flicker specifically when using turn signals. •Issue: Average MPG keeps resetting (Computer Brownout). •Mandatory Checks: 1Multi-Function Switch (internal short). 2Manual Voltage Drop Test on the G01 Ground Point. 3Alternator Ripple Test (check for "dirty" power). Last night on my way home from my daughter’s house which is a 50 minute drive, it was in the dark pouring rain and no longer than I had got started going home, I used the turn signal and my lights flickered a little which that’s what they’ve done before. Then the icon inside the car for headlights flashed on and off, lights inside got very dim and then my headlights got so dim that I had to follow other cars that had LED headlights down an interstate at 65 mph or less safely just to get to my exit to get home for over 45 minutes. I have mentioned this to them repeatedly, but I gave this list to them this morning. I called a little bit ago just to check on things and I was told “well we’ve been driving it for over an hour and we can’t seem to get it to act up”. I said are you not going to do the things that I stated and actually physically touch and look and not just sticking it on a computer. He rudely asked- what are you talking about? It’s all computer. That’s what we do.I’ve had to deal with this since pretty much the middle of January 2026. We are now here at May 7 and it got at its worst last night and horrified me and my safety. When I have car will upload docs

Failure of the engine oil pump pertaining to the exact situation covered in NHTSA campaign 21V-260, but vehicle is not covered. The campaign covered vehicles manufactured from June 5, 2017 to July 24, 2017. Vehicle was manufactured in Mexico, is equipped with the 2.0 Nu MPI engine. The loss of motive power in the vehicle has increased the risk of crash and driver injury.
The vehicle went into Tasca Kia for a cam shaft replacement, this did not fix the issue and the vehicle needed an entire engine replacement under power train warranty. Since then, the vehicle has continuously stalled. The vehicle is not indicating a reason for stalling, it is documented in video, and I have continued to inform the dealership where the vehicle is. This vehicle has shut off on me at rates of speed of 60 mph, comes to a complete stop, and is a HUGE safety concern. I have reported it to the dealer every time, I have provided video, and I have left the vehicle with them, they have continued to ask me to pick up the vehicle and return the rental because they cannot recreate the problem and cannot continue to lose money on the rental. There are no prior issues, there were no warning lights or lights remaining on the dash when the stall happens.

Had to replace a P0014 Exhaust camshaft position timing VCT solenoid - over advanced (Bank1) last year on October 1,2024. Now 2025 December 8,2025 need a nothing camshaft position timing VCT solenoid and also says I need replace my engine. I think something is not right about the engine or something on the engine. Not sure but something is definitely wrong. Never had this kind of problem before , but no cars i've ever had.
About three years ago the clear paint on my car started to peel on the mirrors and car handles. It's progressively gotten worse and now the roof and side mirrors only have patches left and driver side door has started peeling.
My vehicle caught fire while driving also before fire vehicle started popping and stuttering rattling sound. I was on highway.

I have 2 problems with my 2017 Kia Forte sedan: 1) They have put an "environmentally friendly" coating on the wire harnesses under the front hood of the engine which emits a vanilla scent when warm and attracts rats that eat the wire harness when the vehicle is parked. They need to revert back to the original jacket material on the wire harnesses that don't attract rodents. I've spent hundreds of dollars repairing the wire harness, and it's an ongoing problem on wires I haven't replaced. The ones I've already replaced were with "original" materials that don't have the environmentally-friendly coating. 2) Paint (or clear coat?) peeling on the roof and door handles in less than 100,000 miles. I'm told this could be due to a faulty primer, but Kia won't do anything about it, as they say their paint warranty is only for 3 years or 36,000 miles, which is subpar.
Engine light came on around 81k miles and I've replaced several components and it fixed then light would come back on. I kept up on oil changes frequently. I had the spark plugs, o2 sensors replaced twice. It would idle low and or stall. The engine started knocking at 135k I still owe 9k on loan and it's the 2.0L NU MPI M/T ENGINE. PLEASE RECALL IT ALREADY SO MANY OWNERS ARE BEING SCREWED ON THIS VEHICLE.

Saludos cordiales.

Overconsumption of oil, led to engine damage and stalling. Car struggles to start and there is an engine knock. Mechanic advised that the car is not drivable as it will stall while driving as it has done previously and there was a noticeable burning smell when the car was running. Car is under 100,000 miles
I am the original owner of this car and get all my oil changes and regular maintenance on time. The car has 123k miles. I was getting into the freeway evening of 10/3 and my car stopped accelerating was making a loud noise so I pulled off to the side of the road. Per the Kia dealership service department my engine completely failed. This is a known issue with this year and model but Kia is not helping me in any way with the replacement of my engine. Please help.
About September 6th I was driving my vehicle. It is a blue Kia forte 2017. I just had cleaned it at a local car wash. Prior to this 1-2 weeks before my ac had just started to blow hot air. So I recharged it with some recharge that I purchased a recharge can and my buddy Scott helped me put it into my low pressure air conditioning valve area. Soon after like I said when I was leaving a car wash. And I drove down to a gas station and as I start braking my car started running a lot slower. Then finally it almost halted and all the dash lights all illuminated everywhere. And I had to turn the wheel super slow as I approached the left turn into the gas station. And then I noticed my car had shut off completely. I screamed to the men that were at a gas pump feet away to help me push the car into the station. They finally ran over and pushed it into the station. Soon after we attempted with one car, and one truck we tried to jump start my car with the batteries. It didn’t start or turn the engine over fully either few times we attempted jumping it. I finally called it quits and took a ride home. The next day my buddy tried to “ fix it “ he said it didn’t really work as properly and the battery isn’t probably the problem. He said it might be the ac compressor due to my air going out weeks before. But he was afraid to tell me it wasn’t gonna be a cheap or easy fix. He suggested I go to a mechanic. Months prior I received a few notices in the mail that stated my name and my vehicle info. I never really paid them any mind until now but I am thinking I should open them soon. I’m assuming that this info would be in there about a recall. I hope that this will be a substantial amount of evidence for my recall. The websites I reviewed and researched say the there’s a lawsuit and recalls involving my Kia forte 2017 as well. But the vin didn’t match it up fully? So I’m not completely sure why. But I am sure it only had 96k miles. Which was below the Kia 100k mile warranty too? Thanks
I am submitting this formal complaint regarding a serious safety issue I experienced with my 2017 Kia Forte. While driving, my steering wheel suddenly locked up & I was unable to turn left or right. This failure occurred in the middle of the road & put my life at serious risk. Thankfully, I was not involved in an accident. I was able to activate my hazard lights & safely maneuver to a stop before calling for assistance. My vehicle had to be towed to a repair shop, where I was informed that this is a known issue related to the MDPS (Motor Driven Power Steering) & ECU (Electronic Control Unit). The technician noted that Kia has issued a Product Improvement Campaign for some 2017–2018 Kia Forte models equipped with the 2.0L engine due to this very defect. However, my vehicle’s VIN was not included in the campaign, & the dealer has refused to provide assistance, stating that it is not their responsibility regardless of any service bulletins or improvement campaigns issued. This is deeply concerning, as it shows a clear disconnect between known safety issues and the manufacturer's accountability. There are numerous reports from other consumers experiencing the exact same failure outside the limited VIN range, indicating this issue may be much more widespread than Kia is acknowledging. It is unacceptable that a potentially fatal defect is being selectively addressed, especially when the manufacturer is aware of the problem. How many more incidents or near-accidents need to occur before a full recall is issued? This is not just a matter of inconvenience—it's a critical safety issue. The fact that Kia has already acknowledged the defect by issuing a product improvement campaign proves the problem exists. It is the responsibility of both the manufacturer and its dealerships to protect consumers by ensuring that all affected vehicles are repaired, not just those within an arbitrarily limited VIN range. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further. Thank you.
my life was unsafe by being put in this vehicle whos engine was damaged and caught on fire while driving it as a MILITARY soldier.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where a scanner determined that there was a failure with the crankshaft. The contact replaced the spark plugs and crankshaft; however, the failure returned. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic ,where a defect with the timing belt was found, and the mechanic discovered metal shavings inside the oil pump. The contact stated that an oil change was performed on the vehicle, but the failure persisted. The contact was then informed by the mechanic that the failure was possibly linked to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
I am writing to you today regarding a persistent issue I'm experiencing with my 2017 Kia Forte. On several occasions, while driving at various speeds and coming to a stop, the vehicle has stalled. Each time, I was able to restart the vehicle after the stall. I took the car to an independent mechanic, who discovered debris from the skirt in the oil and informed me that the engine would need to be replaced. Additionally 2 days upon purchase the coils were replaced and about 5 times after that I am concerned that this issue may be related to an unknown recalls for both the coil and the engine, as I've seen similar reports. The current mileage on the vehicle is 134,071. I have already notified the manufacturer about this failure but they stated they couldn't do anything even through this started 2 days after my purchase I would appreciate any assistance you can provide in resolving this matter.
Car steers to tilting directions. Doesn't drive straight especially on the highway. Headlights are horrible.
On [XXX] at [XXX], I was driving on [XXX] , when I noticed smoke come from the left side of the interior of the car near the fuse box. Within seconds, the fuse box exploded, and a fire developed. The fire engulfed the entire left side of the interior of the car. the car shut down and I was able to pull over to the side of the road. I tried to put the fire out with my left foot, but couldn't stop the fire. Luckily, I had 5 bottles of water with me in the car. I put all of the 5 water bottles on the fire and eventually put out the fire. But the smoke was so severe that it filled the entire car. I couldn't breath. I fell out of the car and hurt my knees. I noticed that my left toes were burnt and my new shoes that I had bought were ruined. I tried to call 911 but my phone was not working. Again I tried to call 911 and succeeded. The NJ State Police arrive 15 minutes later. I was towed to a KIA dealership in Burlington NJ. They declared the car a total loss with over $18,000 worth of damage. Every wire in the car was destroyed INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am submitting this safety complaint to request an investigation into the adequacy of Kia Motors’ recall coverage for oil pump failures in the 2017 Kia Forte. My vehicle recently experienced a complete oil pump failure, creating a serious risk of sudden engine seizure and potential loss of vehicle control. This type of failure poses an immediate danger to both occupants and other motorists. While Kia has issued recalls and service campaigns addressing oil pump defects in certain models and production ranges, my vehicle identification number (VIN) is not included—despite my case matching the symptoms, mechanical failures, and safety concerns described in those campaigns. This raises concern that the current recall scope is too limited and does not adequately protect all affected owners. Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, manufacturers are required to address safety-related defects in all affected vehicles at no cost to the consumer. If the recall scope is incomplete, other Kia Forte owners remain at risk of sudden mechanical failure, which could lead to crashes or injuries. I respectfully request that NHTSA review Kia’s recall parameters for this defect and determine whether additional VIN ranges should be included. I am prepared to provide detailed service records, diagnostic findings, and photographic evidence of the oil pump failure in my vehicle to assist with this review. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and inform me of the next steps in your investigation. I appreciate your attention to this urgent safety matter.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that while his son was driving 35 MPH, the timing chain tensioner snapped, causing the vehicle to lose automotive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the timing chain tensioner, and timing chain were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Car started hesitating the RED OIL LIGHT came on on the dash it flickered on and off for a few days but and still goes on and off now but 90% of the time it stays on while car is in use. I don't have an oil leak and I'm not low on fluid. I believe foreign particles are getting clogged in oil pump and or filter. Most 2017 kia fortes already have a recall for this. I don't understand why mine isn't recalled also. Plz help. If I have engine damage and car stalls it could be a safety hazard for me and others. I have small children. Please help.

My car is experiencing signs of the Kia Oil Pump recall that my VIN was not included in. However, I believe that needs to be reevaluated, as my car is having those same issues, as in engine failure due to oil pump issues. My car is now currently unable to turn on due to this issue.
Unknown vehicle just went dead while driving
There is high oil consumption in my catalytic converter due to a failed oil pump or piston ring. I've just got this car in march haven't even put 10,000 miles on it. Kept up with maintenance oil changes. And currently undrivable.

I have been financing this vehicle since [XXX], I was driving to Tucson, AZ from Flagstaff, AZ. About 30 minutes into my drive my car made a loud noise, the engine and oil lights came on at the same time, my car started shaking and the engine was smoking. I have never experienced anything like that and I was extremely fearful for my life. I was alone on the interstate for some hours before I could figure out how to get back to Flagstaff… I got my car towed to a mechanic, they ran diagnostics and said my car has catastrophic engine failure, one of the rods shot through the engine. They found a used engine to replace my engine with, but the quote is nearly $8,000. The car itself is about $11,000. I am making minimum wage, I am already struggling to make ends meet as is, I poured a lot of money into that vehicle and I really trusted Camelback Subaru to help get me into a safe, reliable car to help me get to work and live my life, I just never imagined something like this would happen. At ~84,000 miles the car started to ride rough. The engine would stall out while driving 55mph. I would have to roll off to the side of the road and try to restart the car. I took it to the dealership. They found metal flakes in the oil pan and now the engine is totaled. When googling 2017 Kia forte, this was a common manufacturer defect that resulted in a large class action lawsuit. My VIN isnt covered for any of these repairs.

The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact pulled over, but the steering wheel and the brake pedal was stiff and almost unresponsive. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and observed that the check engine warning light was flashing. The contact stated that the failure had occurred several times. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,185.
I am writing to formally request reconsideration for including my 2017 Kia Forte in the existing recall (NHTSA Recall No. 21V-260, Manufacturer Recall No. SC210) affecting similar 2017-2018 Kia Forte models. Despite my vehicle not being initially included, I believe it should be reconsidered due to the following reasons: 1. Similar Engine Issues: The recall pertains to certain 2017-2018 Kia Forte models manufactured at the Kia Mexico plant between June 5, 2017, and July 24, 2017, equipped with 2.0L Nu MPI engines. My vehicle, manufactured at the Kia Mexico plant, is equipped with the same 2.0L Nu MPI engine and has experienced similar issues as described in the recall, including abnormal engine noise and warning lamp illumination prior to engine failure . 2. Consistent Maintenance Record: I have maintained my vehicle consistently, adhering to the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. The Carfax records demonstrate regular oil changes, brake inspections, tire rotations, and other necessary maintenance performed both at authorized Kia service centers and independent shops. The most recent maintenance was conducted at 112,530 miles, just before the engine failure occurred . This demonstrates that the failure was not due to neglect or lack of proper maintenance. 3. Premature Engine Failure: My vehicle’s engine failed before reaching 116,000 miles, which is significantly premature for a well-maintained engine of this type. Given the similar defect characteristics — oil pressure issues caused by foreign particles in the oil pump variable relief plunger — I strongly believe that my vehicle’s failure aligns with the recall conditions described . 4. Safety Concerns: The defect described in the recall poses a significant safety risk due to the potential for loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion. My experience aligns with this risk, as the engine failure occurred without sufficient warning, putting me and others at risk.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle lost power with an abnormal ratting sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle into a parking lot and then had the vehicle towed to the residence. The contact later towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The mechanic called several dealers and other independent mechanics and was informed that the engine was no longer in production, and that the engine was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Unknown, can’t see the road at night due to the headlights not aimed towards the right direction they seem to be pointed down and at different angles. I have ran into a ditch because of this safety hazard I also have to use my high beam in order to drive which is unsafe for other drivers on the road I am very concerned And frustrated because I have tried to adjust the lights, but they just don’t seem to be able to be corrected
My car has been stalling when coming to a stop while driving in and around town Before stalling on the oil light flickers and the sometimes after I restart it the motor makes a clattering sound and if I press down on the accelerator pedal the noise fades off and then the motor runs for a while and then flickering oil light and stalls. I have 90,000+ miles and have used amsoil full synthetic with their oil filter and change the oil religiously. I flushed the vehicle oil system with a motor flush and changed the oil and since it seems ok. I am very concerned that my vehicle should have been included in the recall as my vehicle did exactly what it sounds like what has happened with the ones recalled. I'm concerned that something inside is inferior and needs to be replaced ASAP
I purchased a 2017 Kia Forte from a used car dealer. Two weeks after I picked up the car, the car stalled at intersections. I checked it out at a Midas and they found that oil was not getting to the engine and it needed a new engine. I towed it back to the dealer because it was within the Lemon law, under 75,000 miles. He said he fixed it, and replaced the engine, but after I picked it up, the same thing happened. I towed it back again and printed a list of mechanical things to check that was online. The second time, he said they cleaned the engine. I am concerned that there is a serious problem with the car and it is not safe to drive. I would have to restart the car and it would stall again. I have not picked up the car a third time again.
Engine knocking due to engine recall
Break lights, running lights and headlights go out at least every three months at different times. Apparently it’s a common problem with these cars when I go to online forums and I have recently been contacted by a class action attorney that wants to investigate. I have had to replace rear bulb sockets due to corrosion and the bulbs still burn out. We purchased the 2017 car used around 2021 and have probably replaced the headlights alone 6 times and an un countable amount on the running and break lights.
I purchased this vehicle from Carvana, used, with 58000 miles. I have had all the oil changes and regular maintenance performed. However, this car has been very unreliable. One time in November 2023, all the electrical went out while I was driving down the highway going 50 mph. The power steering and all dashboard lights turned off and the car shut down. Were it not for the fact the road was straight and I could veer off slightly to stop on the side of the road, I could have experienced a crash. Others have pointed this out about KIA cars. More recently, I had to replace the entire transmission at 90,000 miles. I have never had a car that needed a totally new transmission under 100,000 miles or at all. The cost of all the unexpected repairs, design incompetencies, and consequences, including having to get a rental car, was around $4,500. The KIA cars from 2010 - 2021 also were not equipped with an engine mobilizer, which increased their rate of theft. This cost me a higher auto insurance bill as a result. It is clear KIA throws their cars together and puts anything they can on the market, then deny any responsibility and just say, "Oh, you don't have a warranty?" As if it's your fault for wanting a basic car to do basic things. Not having a car in the dead of winter with a big storm was pretty scary. That was me in Mississippi in January of 2025. The KIA dealership there in Brandon was almost incapable of repairing it, returning it to me three times and saying it was fine, with me driving off and a warning light coming on or the car saying the engine was now overheating. These are bad cars. They should not be sold to US consumers. This is a scam operation. I have the receipts for repairs and having to get a rental car, if needed.
-Airbags did not deploy. -The car is available for inspection. -The driver was put at significant risk after the vehicle accidentally slid on ice while navigating a sharp curve, causing it to veer off the road and crash into trees. The impact resulted in the car being totaled from the front bumper to the back. Despite the severity of the crash, the airbags failed to deploy, making the driver's seatbelt the only factor that ultimately saved his life. -Insurance agent still needs to look at the car. Police office was present, along with tow driver. -No warnings
Rear combination lights (taillights) housing developed issue with condensation after developing cracks. This caused brake lights to burn out. This is a known issue with many Fortes and needs to be extended to additional production years.
My car's acceleration pedal stopped responding while driving, and the oil warning light turned on in the dashboard. Gradually, the check engine light came on, and the car stopped moving. After researching, I found that a common issue with the 2017 Kia Forte is a potential problem with the oil pump, where foreign particles can become trapped inside, leading to oil pump failure and possible engine damage.
Car is continuously running out of oil, after looking here it seems to be an ongoing issue yet no recall sent out.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the catalytic converter was clogged. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under a class-action lawsuit extended warranty coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.
On November 23, 2024, the brakes gave out on my 2017 Kia Forte5 EX. I found several recalls for my car regarding the brakes, trunk, engine and airbags. However, my son was in an accident and I was unaware of any recalls, as the car was purchased used. Would I still be able to get my car repaired under these recalls, or do I need to contact Kia?
92,000 miles - check engine light flashing Dealership mechanic says “leaking oil” Oil level barely touching dipstick. Right at 5,000 miles since synthetic oil change. Have a concrete driveway and car has not leaked oil at all. Mechanic suggested replacing oil pan gasket. There is an oil pan recall on 2017 & 2018 Kia Forte but supposedly my car isn’t covered. Still under warranty but dealership claims it’s not covered under that either. I think all 2017 & 2018 Kia Fortes should be covered under the recall if we are also having the same issues. Having my lawyer friend look into this for me.
Was driving and vehicle started to stall and slow in traffic with no warning lights at all. Discovered that oil was empty after we had checked it before a trip. No oil warning lights came on to tell us that was no oil. In turn this damaged our vehicles timing chain and it needs repaired. I spoke with dealership and wanted them to do an oil consumption test because there was a problem and should not be using oil and not warning you of a low or no oil. They advised that was not an issue and could not do it. There are recalls on Kias for this exact thing but not my model. This is a safety issue because could case an accident without any warning.
The engine failed. Transmission wouldn’t switch. No prior warning but oil lamp. Was on Freeway when it happened. Problem has been confirmed but not with my vin. Lamp didn’t come on until It started to fail
Both of my tail lights have the water leaking problem that other 2017 Fortes were recalled for. My VIN was not on the list, but both of them have to be fixed at my expense and are burning out my tail light and turn signal bulbs prematurely because of the water condensed in them.
Once coming home, my airbag from steering wheel deployed. I did not get into an accident, just as i closed my door it went off. I worried about my safety especially because i have a baby. Any airbag could’ve gone off for no reason. I don’t feel safe in my car. After taking it to Viva Kia here in El Paso, they did not offer any inspections just a number to call. I was scared when they sent me off in a car like that with no diagnostics done. No lights were on prior to this incident so I definitely was not warned about it.
Unknown I dropped my car off at the Kia dealership for them to do some recalls kia say the only re calls they had seen were 22V031000 and 21V622000.That they couldn’t do it cause it don’t show on the computer at the Hutchinson Kia of Albany
Error code B1620 is registering on my 2017 KIA Forte. The current recall for this issue only covers some 2017 KIA Forte vehicles.
The hood latch doesn't always work and the hood could fly up and obstruct vision and cause a wreck, the gas door sticks and won't open on the first try, engine is slow on excelleration some times. Not sure when it all started
I was driving on a road, then the car just died out of know where after driving for about a hour. I got the car to the side of the road to be somewhat more safe. I started the car back up then started hearing a knocking. then had it towed to the dealer. they said they cant do anything.
The vehicle consumes excessive oil, requiring to top-off oil every ~1k miles to prevent engine damage and seizing. The owner of the vehicle first observed oil consumption at 90k miles oil change. Dealership performed oil consumption test, measured 0.5qt oil burned in 1k miles. At 95k mile oil change, owner requested to record oil consumption, but dealership did not measure it. At 99k miles, owner again requested to record oil consumption, and dealership measured 1.5qt oil burned in 3k miles (0.5qt / 1k miles). After 99k miles, owner began topping off oil every time the oil was measured to be 1qt low. Measured adding 1qt every ~2k miles. Oil change performed at 105k miles with no additional notes. At 108k miles, dealership began second oil consumption test, and measured 1.5qt oil burned in 1k miles (3x increase in oil consumption from 99k miles to 109k miles). Dealership recommending "Hail Mary" attempt to break up carbon build up in cylinders or recommending engine replacement. Manufacturer and Dealership claim that even though the problem began while under warranty, it only became "bad enough" after warranty ended, so the owner must cover all costs himself.
The light that marks the low oil of the engine, never turned on and the engine’s time belt was damaged as a result of this, and one of the valves too, and the car just consumed the synthetic oil in just about 7 months, and this is a factory defect because the low oil light inside the car never turned on. And I need that the company replace my engine as a result of this manufacturing defect. My car after that incident has a code P0011.
My engine has an oil consumption problem. I already had to replace one catalytic converter due to this. It is still happening and now multiple mechanics have confirmed that this is ultimately an engine problem. Not even 1,000 miles after an oil change, it starts making noises and the oil light will flicker on and off. The mechanics all say this is a known issue with Kia engines, but when I looked it up, there is no recall for this part.
I have 2 complaints with my Kia Forte. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Yes it can be inspected. 1st complaint-The component or system that malfunctioned was the brakes, possibly caused from the entire braking system, the electronic parking brake software and any damaged intermediate shafts. The problem is like the Telluride SUV KIA. 2nd complaint is an intermittent burning smell mostly in the rear area after I get out of the car to park in the garage for the night. It does not occur all the time. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? After I was outside of the parked car on a level road, I saw my car rolling. I had to open the door and jump in to pull the emergency brake on with it moving. I was not able to get my left leg into the car with it moving so my left leg was dragging outside on the rough pavement and ruined my brand new shoes and hurt my left leg and big toe. I was shook up. Ever since, I always pull on my emergency brake when parked. 2nd issue- I am not sure of the safety issue with the burning smell. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, I did not know what to do. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning and no symptoms prior to the issues. The 1st issue with the brakes occurred this past Dec. 2023 and was then only occurrence. The 2nd issue has occurred several intermittent times in the past 2 years with the burning smell.
I keep taking my call to the Kia dealership they say my oils is burning and could mess up my engine. They say it’s a recall for issue like this for 2017 Kia forte and I don’t understand why my car is not in that recall if the recalls is the same thing that’s happening to my car
I got a code P1326. I looked online and saw this was a common Kia issue. My engine light is flashing and car went into limp mode while driving. I can’t got more than 60 mph. There is occasional knocking as well.
Engine light came on and off intermittently and then stayed on. Idle was rough and engine almost stalled. When scanned a P0301 code was thrown (misfire on cylinder 1).
I keep having issues with the crankshaft pulley and the drive belt.
Hello, my name is [XXX] , i just had a 2017 kia forte car accident on [XXX]. I was hit by the driver's side in my door and in the door behind me. the airbag are supposed to be released upon impact. The would have to open because i was going over 25 miles per hour the airbags supposedly release when you go over 25 miles this caused me to break my wrist of my left hand I hit my knees and hurt my face this caused my injuries the malfunction of the airbags conclusion that the car was a total loss i need you to answer for my damages to me because as a consumer i have the right to complain I am waiting for a formal response thank you very much INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the low oil pressure and the battery warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, due to the warranty being expired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage approximately 135,000.
Experienced temporary loss of electronic power steering (EPS) on 10FEB24. After driving about 15 miles returning from across town, my wife experienced a momentary loss of the EPS while slowing to make a left turn into our subdivision. She was able to wrestle the wheel through the turn with difficulty but then stopped the car to decide whether she should keep driving. After just a moment, she decided to try and when she pulled forward found that the power steering was working again. She made two more left turns over the two blocks to our house and had no trouble. She doesn't recall any dashboard warning lights coming on but was too flustered to have really noticed. I verified the drive belt looks fine and there are no saved fault codes. The car has about 116k miles on it and the drive belt was changed at 110k miles. Car was inspected two days later by my local repair shop including the suspension system. No fault codes or other anomalies were found and they could not duplicate a problem with the EPS.
The engine light came on and vehicle started stalling. It was cutting in and out as if it was going to die, so I had to simultaneously break and give it gas. It was taken to the mechanic and an ignition coil was replaced. A month later on the highway, the car began the same process but with no engine light coming on. It was again taken to the mechanic and kept for two weeks with nothing showing on the diagnostic machine. A week after taking it home, the light was on again. Same scenario, of not finding anything wrong with it. The issue began at 100,000 miles. The car is almost paid off and I don't feel comfortable driving it. I have small children and don't feel safe driving around. I have contacted Kia about a possible recall which was denied. It is available for inspection upon request. I'm so disappointed that Kia won't address the issue because I have seen so many reviews saying the same thing. The vehicle is seven years old and has had several recalls already. I will NOT purchase another Kia because of the lack of responsibility and refusal to fix the situation. I believe it's the oil lubrication pump because the reviews stating the same issues are spot on what is happening. The cost of replacing the pump is almost what the car is worth.
I purchased a used Kia forte at a dealership 43,000 miles, at 50,000 the car started having issues out in shop multiple times for oil consumption and battery issues. Then my engine stalled out and my car is sitting at a repair shop for over 6 mths now with a bad engine, the original owner did not get the software update so Kia won’t cover my engine replacement/reimbursement. The dealership did not inform me of the product campaign/recall when I purchased the vehicle. I’ve lost 2 jobs now and my apartment, I’m only [XXX] and now no car either. Kia, the dealership and the mechanic all failed me. My life is hard enough as a young female with no help now this, what a mess, what can I even do now. Everything [XXX] for me now and I have lost everything. Idk what to do anymore. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was getting on the interstate gradually got up to 60 miles per hour when my car started to rev high an then lost all power an stalled it almost got me hit by a tractor trailer the car has ran ok up until then an Kia claims there not a recall for this but I’ve read the stories of the same situation it’s crazy to think they won’t cover to fix this issue my car only has 82k on it an it’s basically totaled an still have payments on it
The speedometer does not work. The car will not accelerate. I always have belt problems.
Engine failure-yes its available for inspection While driving home from work on the interstate following flow of traffic, check engine light came on, car started smoking, and shut down almost causing a accident because it was hard to attempt to pull over due to it smoking and shutting down while driving at 55 mph. The problem has been reproduced by Kia Dealership, this is a known issue with Kia's, however, Kia is not working with me on trying to resolve the engine issue It's been inspected by the manufacturer, open recalls on Kia Fortes the engine needs replacement The check engine light came on a few weeks prior, took to get a oil change & full inspection because I had to keep putting oil & coolant in it. However, was informed by mechanic Kia's were known to have oil issues with the oil pump something with foreign particles getting into the pump causing engine failure which was a open recall. In informed the mechanic I had to keep putting oil into it along with coolant, mechanic couldn't find any leaks in radiator, hoses, nor any oil messes on & around engine. I reached out to Kia to discuss that the engine light came on, but the mechanic was unable to find any issue, at that time Kia customer service stated my specific Kia didn't have any open recalls other than the trunk latch. Then 2 weeks later while driving home from work on the interstate, the engine light came on and car started smoking and shut down almost without warning, almost causing a crash on the interstate that could have ended in a tragic situation. Kia continues to give me the run around with a replacement engine on a Kia Forte LX 2.0 MPI engine.
My car started sounding like a diesel truck. The car didn’t want to changes gears right. It was shutting off randomly. I got on the freeway and it wouldn’t shift out of 3rd gear the way it was suppose to, the car speedometer was reading 60-70 mph but when I switched it to manual it was only in 3rd gear. I almost got rear ended by a diesel truck with a trailer due to it not wanting to shift. I had a mechanic look at it and put it in the code reader. It came up just the cam sensor which were replaced. Went to drive off and it sounded way worse than before. Reput it on the code reader and it said something about the oil pump. Got a second opinion and this mechanic said that it was the bearings in the motor. And now it’s going to be a problem and that’s I’m better off getting a new car.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 165,000.
Starting around 50k mileage, the engine experienced misfire-like issues: rough idling & transitory reduction of power during acceleration and cruising. This was brought to the dealership multiple times, but the check engine light had never come on, nor were there any error codes saved in the OBD system. After 60k mileage, the check engine light did come on temporarily, but would automatically clear, still without any error codes saved in OBD. Around 65k mileage, the vehicle could not accelerate to highway speeds, so I had it towed to the dealer and refused to take it back until they found the issue. They then observed an error saved in OBD showing a misfire on cylinder 3. Replaced all spark plugs + coil packs, which seems to have corrected the problem. After 70k mileage, I observed that the engine burns oil, about 1 quart per 3k miles. This rate has stayed consistent up to the current 100k mileage.
The airbags did not deploy when a large jeep turned into the driver side door.
My engine shutoff/misfired while I was driving. The rest of my vehicle maintained power, dashboard headlights, radio. I took it to an autoshop where the issue was replicated. When my engine shut off the I had three check lights come on eps, oil, and battery. There was no warning prior to the engine shutting off.
I take my car to kia dealership for my oil changes.they put the $45.00 oil,not sure if conventional or semi.apprx.4mos ago they told me kia no longer use the $45.00 oil so needed to upgrade to full synthetic oil.so i did, approx 2mos after, engine light came on flasing.with the oil light flashing aswell.i needed to add 4quarts.from that day foward the car does not have power.no more than 60mph.ps.added another 2 quarts adout 3weeks ago
1. The knock sensor failed. As a consequence the vehicle will not run properly. 2. The vehicle has been at Fred Beans KIA of Langhorne for several weeks. I assume that it is available for inspection. 3. The vehicle will not run properly. It will not accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed and the engine often stops running. Very dangerous on highways and heavily traveled roadways. 4. Yes the problem has been confirmed by Ciocca KIA of Trenton, NJ. Frank's Service Center 645 Knowles Ave., South Hampton, PA 18966 and Fred Beans KIA of Langhorne, PA 19047. 5. Yes. See attached report. 6. Yes there was an engine warning light and a message on the screen.
Came outside to back windshield shattered. Cars all around me were perfectly fine and mine had a huge hole and was completely shattered. After googling, this is apparently a common problem with kias
Headlights started to flicker off and on after using the blinkers. Just randomly. The alarm won't arm or disarm unless I put the key into the ignition, the alarm (and horn) is set off, I have to take the key out and disarm the alarm it with the remote. The car still starts, all the alarm does is make noise. The dashboard displays FUSE and the clock is always displayed at 1:00 when I start my car. They couldn't diagnose my car when I Took the car in for a recall software update, after the update hours later the headlights and dashboard lights turned off while I was on the freeway-no blinkers used when this happened. It happened several times after that. The dealer said they would need to keep my car and though it is under the extended warranty I pay for, there wouldn't be a rental car until it was diagnosed and if it is covered then they would reimburse me or my car rental. I had to wait several weeks until I could get an appointment, and my own car rental. Now the dealer said they couldn't find anything wrong. They kept the car because they had not addressed the inside fuse display on dashboard, clock, or alarm issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the oil warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic test was performed but no errors were found. Out of an abundance of precaution, the oil pressure sensor was replaced; however, the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he linked to the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Car does not turn off. Put car in park, remove key, still running. Change gears, step on brake, park, remove key while still on brake pedal, still running. Had to remove two components from fuse box to turn off car & electrical (dashboard was still on when first component was removed, which stopped engine). Key fob doesn’t work either, have to manually lock/unlock. Car is available for inspection. *trying* to set up an appt with the dealership to get it serviced, but it’s a holiday weekend. This is dangerous, bc it’ll kill battery, and if ppl don’t figure out how to manually turn car off from fuse, the fumes can be dangerous. I was at work & in a parking garage. I had to run inside for a few min & the smell was strong afterwards. No warning signs/codes on car. Has not been inspected yet by anyone.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds, the vehicle stalled, with the battery and oil level warning lights flashing on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not yet diagnosed. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, and informed the contact that VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 100,007.
It happened on July 29th 2023. Coming home from visiting my son my engine started to make a loud knocking noise. There have been no warnings, no light indicators came on, just nothing. Luckily made it home safely. Car has just a Lil over 97,000 miles on it. The coolant, oil, transmission fluid all are good. Took to a shop on August 2nd and said the motor is blown. With low miles and only 6years old the car should not have a blown motor already. I belive the recall should be extended to All 2017 KIA FORTES.
I purchased this vehicle second hand at 43k miles. The issue began around 50k miles and would rough idle when coming to a stop and a check engine light appeared. At 55k miles it was taken to a Kia dealership where they were unable to diagnose the issue. They ran a diagnostic and found nothing. Shorty after, the issue persisted. I took it back to the Kia dealership where they were able to run another diagnostic on the check engine light, and they told me it was the spark plugs. I did not believe this as my father has been a technician for over 40 years and said that the issue seems to be an ignition coil issue. I never took the vehicle back to any Kia or IRF since. I’ve replaced 1 coil and the issue smoothed out. Some time after, the issue began to worsen and continue to intermittently over the course of months, rough idle, shoot up in rpms, stall while accelerating, and once or twice it has shut off completely while at a stop light. Unfortunately, I have so far replaced 2 coils and the issue is moderate but not to the point of shutting off. The vehicle is eligible for inspection upon request. I do NOT feel safe driving this vehicle, and it’s unfortunate for me as it is my first vehicle.
The head light turn off occasionally when the turn signal is used and does not always come back on with out playing with it or jiggle it. It has put mine and others safety at risk at dark. The dealer recommends replacing the multifunction switch. Part is on a national back order.
My 2017 Kia Forte was stalling during driving with no warning. Engine light would come on periodically and then go off again. It stalled numerous times on busy roads and at busy intersections. I'm blessed I was never rear ended. It finally died after parking it one day and wouldn't start again. It is at the Kia dealership where they tell me... for lack of mechanical terms, it has jumped time and they need me to pay $2200 to have it fixed. My tech told me, "this may fix your problems but we will not know until that is fixed because we can not further diagnose it until that gets fixed". In my 47 years of life I've never had a mechanic tell me to pay that much but we aren't sure if this will fix it. Kia knows these engines are junk and are trying to get out of replacing/fixing what is wrong for so many! This is so wrong! These car/engines are dangerous and a ticking time bomb!
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact state that while her niece was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact’s niece was able to restart the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the crank shaft sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, after the vehicle was retrieved, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the oil pan failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced the NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the mechanic retrieved DTC codes: P0017 and P0014. Additionally, metal shavings were found inside the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed, but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 103,000.
The engine failed similar to all the other recalls I see on other kia models.
Engine is siezed
At 86575 miles after routine check ups at the dealership and routine maintenance being done regularly my check engine light came on I tried to put gas in my car and it sprayed all over me and the car and the gas tank I can’t put gas in my car and the dealership is expecting me to cover this costs and I’ve seen many other documented incidents with the same complaints
My 2017 Kia forte with less than 100,000 miles on it started stalling and consuming excess amounts of oil. I was still paying on it. I made sure to keep oil in my car and always did my oil changes. No receipts for those because my father changed my oil for me. One day it stalled on the highway out of nowhere. It stopped stalling and nobody could figure out why it had done that even when taken into the shop. One day I went out to start my car and it wouldn’t start. My husband had it towed to the dealership and it was a blown engine. I was still paying on this car. I had only had it for 2 years. Now, this make, model, and year are included in a recall for catastrophic engine failure and stalling, yet, when I look it up online my VIN isn’t included… in fact my manufacturing date is only a week out from what they would include. This has been traumatizing to me considering I cared for my mother for ten years and she had just passed unexpectedly after a surgery, and I wasn’t working because of this… now my husband has to now take me to work, if I can find a job that works around his schedule… and I have to pay 7,000 which is what is left of what I owe on my loan. I am unhappy to say the least.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle, but no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the engine oil level was low. The contact stated that the oil was topped off; however, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and referred the contact to the local dealer. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while making a right turn, the oil warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the vehicle was experiencing a failure like NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) and advised to contact the dealer. The dealer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 91,150.
Repeated engine failure. 10/1/2022 "internal problem required engine teardown found exhaust cvvt dowel pin had sheared off inside of exhaust camshaft causing excessive play. Replaced exhaust cvvt exhaust camshaft valve cover gasket rtv exhaust cvvt bolt timing chain tensioner timing chain and ocv. Replaced gaskets as needed." Paid $2877.01 to repair. Then on 5/15/2023, loud knocking in engine (sounds like a loose bolt knocking around). Took to dealer and got this quote. "•Exhaust system (Loose Parts, Visible Damage, Leaks) OBD 2 PERMANENT CODE FOR P0420- RECOMMEND CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT $10,106.27 •REPLACE ENGINE - NON ISG $4,232.81" Only has 127k miles and cannot pay this much... $14+k for a car that is worth $4k? Crazy! I question the work that was done in Oct 2022 and also question why it had to be done in the first place. Something is very wrong with this engine. It is available for inspections upon request. My daughter's safety was compromised as she commuted with a car that has a serious engine defects. Problem was diagnosed at dealership. It has been inspected by the Kia dealership. Engine light warning was on which is why my daughter took it to them in Oct. 2022. Came on again in May 2023 and she took it to dealership again as soon as she saw it which was when the knocking began. Link to outrageous quote on May 16, 2024. https://triage-america.superservice.com/home/en-us/customer-authorisation/#/A3zAAy&n2azet;VVM=&sms
My car was stolen on 4-17. They tore up the steering column . KIA knows what's going on with the TICK TICK challenge and is doing nothing about it. They quoted me $800 for labor only!!! This is unacceptable. I had to replace my window, my insurance won't cover, I had to purchase a club. I feel violated. I don't know if my car was used in the commission of a crime or will be stolen again. Why isn't KIA recalling or fixing these vehicles. I qualify for the starter immobilizer kit, but they should fix their problem first. I am livid!!!! Its all over the media in 17 states on the rise of these thefts. When is someone going to make them accountable, when someone has to die first.
The contact owns a 2015 Charmac Outlaw Trailer hauled by a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V838000 (Suspension). The contact stated that while towing the trailer at an unknown speed, the splines on the axle fractured and the two wheels separated from the axle. Additionally, the contact stated that the trailer was towed to the residence. The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure but was advised to contact the axle manufacturer. The trailer had not been repaired. The contact stated that the axle manufacturer denied fault of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Engine burns oil quickly. No leaks reported after each oil change. I have to add a quart of oil every week and sometimes I have to add 2 quarts. Mechanic states he has had multiple Kia Forte's have complete engine failure because engine will burn all of the oil until there is no oil at all.
My vehicle has under 70,000 miles. A few weeks ago it keep stopping. This is what the Kia dealer is telling me : INTERNAL ROD BEARING FAILURE METAL IN OIL CAR IS KNOCKING AND WONT STAY RUNNING DUE TO OIL CONTROL VALVES BEING AFFECTED BY METAL IN OIL. I feel as a customer this is a bad engine and now I am being asked to pay about $5700 to replace an engine. I bought this car about almost two years ago; and I was assured by a car fax and Kia dealership this car was fine. I would like for Kia to look into this and reimburse me and other customers.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle inadvertently stalled while slowing down. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the camshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The contact stated that while changing the oil, the independent mechanic became aware of metal shavings in the oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.
I have a 2017 kia forte that I believe was made in Mexico (12/16) in December of 2016. I have an airbag fault illuminated. I used a scan tool to read the fault. Its 10 faults including DTC B1620, the airbag SRSCM is not communicating. I made an appointment at local KIA dealer for recall. I downloaded the SC226 RECALL. The recall affects a production range for 2017-2018 MY Forte from March 2, 2017 to July 27, 2018. My kia was manufactured 3 months before and has the same defect. I used the NHTSA website to search the VIN and returned the same results. I want to register a complaint that there are more affected vehicles than covered by this recall. I am sure that if the NHTSA were to collect data on vehicles being repaired for this identical defect would find that a greater number of vehicles were affected and many may be operating unsafely without repair.
When I arrived at my destination after driving through rain my paint peeled back on my hood.
Load engine "ticking/knocking" noise at 83,200 miles. Vehicle engine maintenance is up to date and serviced by Kia. Noise diagnosed as coming from valve train and/or pistons. Was informed engine replacement is necessary.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that the ESC warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where unknown sensors were replaced. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop immediately. Additionally, the ABS warning light and the check engine warning light were illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Hi there, I got my 2017 Kia Forte brand new. Over the past 6 years, I’ve had to replace the ENGINE IGNITION COILS half a dozen times. Kia refuses to recall this vehicle for this problem, which is very common among other drivers. Just go online and search “2017 Kia Ignition Coil problem” and you will find thousands of people reporting on the same issue with a multitude of the same symptoms: rough idling, shaking vehicle, RPM jumps, check engine light on, etc. The irony is, when I first took my vehicle to a Kia dealership for service, they were fully aware of the issue and alleged recall (their words, not mine). In fact, THE MECHANIC is the one who informed me about the recall 5+ years ago when my first coil misfired. He said the part was recalled, and they would fix free of charge. This was the first time I heard about the recall. NO ONE from Kia had contacted me. No call, email, text, snail mail. Nothing. When an engine ignition coil fails, you run the risk of having your vehicle caught on fire and explode. How on Earth is Kia getting away with keeping this information secret from its customers?? The 2017 Kia Forte has 6 engine ignition coils. I’ve since replaced nearly all of mine - and note, Kia dealerships REFUSE to replace them all at once as they need proof they’re officially “bad” before replacing. Thousands of other customers have also reported going back to the shop over, and over, and over again to get these coils fixed. Kia needs to be held accountable for the safety of these vehicles. Kia needs to recall these cars, and refund customers who have already fixed their cars. In 2020, NHTSA announced civil penalties for Kia for NOT recalling vehicles in a timely manner. We need to keep Kia in check, and hold them accountable for the unacceptable and incredibly dangerous position they continue to put their customers in.
Had total loss of oil causing engine to fail on February 7th 2023! This after just receiving oil change in January! Car locked up while driving barely making it safely off the road! Had trouble with it going into the new year! Oil was constantly a problem! Just paid off car in October! This engine failure was severe and life threatening considering where I was at the time and all the traffic that was surround! I’ve had friends with Kia’s suffer same engine loss as well! Can’t just be a coincidence!
I've had it looked at by a Kia dealership and they said I let it run out of oil and burned up my engine. My ASC warranty won't cover it. I had no idea. I've got proof from Valvoline where I always get my oil changes and proves I did it regularly. I had no oil leak signs on the pavement. Your recall #SC210 which I just found out about talks about exactly what happened to me. I really don't think it was my fault and it should be covered. I had no indication that something was wrong till this happened. I've had no problems since I bought the car in November 2021till now.
My car was parked in the car port. The rear back light on the driver side caught on fire. The police and fire department were called. I was not at home at the time, my neighbors used a plastic container to put out by time the fire department got there. The firs department stated that is was faulty wiring. I am waiting for the report from police, fire department, and insurance representative. The car was parked and there was no waring lamp. Fire department had to disarm my car alarm. I will be calling the dealer after this.
Driving at night and low beam headlights both went out at the same time. The only way to drive safely was to use high beams. Opened hood and passenger's side light came back on, very dimly, and then went out again as soon as the left turn signal was initiated. Even the high beam lights flicker when the left turn signal is used. This is completely unsafe because there is no way to see without blinding everyone else on the road with high beams. Headlight bulbs were replaced less than 6 months ago.
I was driving home one night. Nothing out of the norm. Suddenly I felt a slight tug in my car and something like a “rattling” sound. I thought it was my tire so I pulled over and checked but the noise was coming from the engine. I popped the hood and found it was the engine knocking. I towed the car to the nearest KIA dealer and found out it was a “Long Block” issue.
Unknown. My 2017 Kia Forte LX turns off while I’m driving. The entire car dies but the electric works. I have to put in park and sit a minute before my car will start again.
Currently at 80k miles and roughly at 50k miles started hearing metal clanking when accelerating and smelling burning metal and hints of electric fire when driving, I've been adding oil / changing the oil every week because it's barely any oil on the dipstick and noticed that there are shiny metal flakes in the oil and filter every time, I have an hour commute to and from work and this motor is a ticking time bomb and I have to put 4.3 quarts every week. The motor is burning oil and when I first start it it barley stays running and shakes tremendously also sometimes it has revved up to 3k rpms but after about 30 seconds to a minute it drops under 1k rpm and idles rough, I've had it checked for leaks and there are none. I took it to the kia dealership and they said that it was not a recall and they couldn't help.I went as well for the trunk latch and Forward Collision recall. Latch was broken and they didn't fix it I had to order one offline, only thing that was done was the coolant flush service and the fuel system and forward collision, also was told that one of the motor mounts was bad and paid for it but never received it. I'm spending boo koodles on oil and filters I could have purchased a used vehicle for what I've spent on that. Please help me out with this. I've been considering just taking it back to the bank and ruin my credit because I'm scared that it will catch on fire or leave me stranded or even getting in an accident. I'm terrified to continue driving it but unfortunately it's my only transportation but everyday I take a risk. I just don't understand these motors I've changed the oil every 3k miles since I got it. For it to only have 80k miles there shouldn't be metal flakes in the oil and filter every time I change it. The only other issue is sometimes while on the highway it just acts like it's loosing power and it cuts out accelerating here and there not sure if the motor is close to locking up. I don't have photos at the moment but have videos.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated the vehicle failed to immediately start up as needed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to start the vehicle after several attempts. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that coolant was leaking into the engine and that the engine needed to be replaced. The independent mechanic associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
The trunk seal is not functioning properly. Water gets into lighting and causes mold in truck.
The contact's daughter owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle started making an abnormally loud noise. The driver pulled off the roadway and safely stopped. The contact stated that her daughter had not noticed any warning lights being illuminated. The contact stated that her daughter saw a puddle of oil underneath the vehicle. The contact's daughter had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the mechanic determined that the vehicle had thrown a connecting rod and that engine oil was sprayed on the engine support and frame. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V750000 (Engine). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Son purchased his first car and like the 17 forte. Bought it for around 12k and drove it for 8k miles and he had the engine start knocking. No indication lights nothing. Checked the oil thinking it could be that but it wasn’t low on oil. Had it towed to our mechanic he said the motor was blown. Kia would not do anything after it sat in the dealership ship for 21 days. Just received an estimate of $7800 to replace a motor with a used motor with 42k on it!! Are you kidding me! These motors are horrible and there service is the same. Stand behind your product if you ever want to be successful. He could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere with a car having less then 100k miles on it. Needs to be recalled.
Cylinder 2 is misfiring and causing the engine to get out of rhythm. The car begins shaking and the engine struggles to keep running. The car feels like it will stop running at any given point of when it happens. The check engine light only appears when at a complete stop or when my foot is on the gas. When I take my foot off the gas and the car cruises, the check engine light goes away, making it extremely difficult to catch/code.
Engine #1 failure @ 50,475 miles Driving 70mph on the interstate my check engine light would come on only when pressing the gas pedal. Within 30 seconds while driving on a 10° uphill slope trying to change 4 lanes of traffic to be near the shoulder, I heard clanking, knocking, and a bang. 0rpms. Connecting rod through the block. One dealership did nothing but lock my car in their fence for 2 months before another Kia dealership replaced the engine. Then 680.3 miles later, engine #2 failure. Driving on unfamiliar country roads at dusk. 5 miles from the next pull off parking area. I had extreme loss of power. The check engine light appeared. A few seconds later it sounded like a shotgun went off in my engine. Engine died, there was only a few inches of dirt before the ditch. My battery died from my flashers before the tow truck came. This time the connecting rod went through the block and damaged my starter. Dealership replaced the engine. Engine #3 @ 52343 check engine light appears when pressing the gas pedal. 7 Cincinnati Kia dealerships are 5+ weeks from diagnosing engine troubles. I'm ashamed at Kia for allowing THIS. I've jumped out of airplanes without fear, but I am scared to drive my own vehicle. Kia has put me in financial stress due to rental vehicles, unexpected hotel costs, and not reimbursing me thus far.
The engine stalls , when I try to give it gas, it will stall sometimes to the point of shutting off. It will also cut it off if I am sitting and the engine is running, it will shut off and it takes several minutes for me to be able to get it back running. It seems like it is something with fuel injectors. I know there was a recall with this very same issue on models of 2017 that was made in a different month, but I have been told numerous times mine isn’t a recall when it seems to have same issue. This hasn’t been a one time occurrence, it occurs almost every time I drive my vehicle.
Failed/Malfunctioned component: Engine. Safety risk: Engine makes noises and stalls for no apparent reason. Reproduction/confirmation: I'm contacting the dealers&manufacturers. A third party mechanic said the engine noise was a knocking sound. Warning lamps/symptoms: Suddenly a noise started when the engine was working 3,000 rpm or more. After ~10 miles of driving, a louder noise started. After <10 miles more of driving (to visit a third party mechanic) from that, it had an engine oil lamp turned on, while the engine has enough engine oil. After ~1 mile, the engine failed.
I as at work and received a message that there was a large oil spot where my car had been parked overnight at home. I checked my oil and it was not low. After work I was on my way to get my oil changed/checked and after 13 miles I heard a light knocking sound. I pulled over and checked my oil. My oil level was still good. I started my car and the noise was gone. I only had a few miles to the oil/lube express. Just as I pulled in the driveway of the business, the noise started again. The problem was the Oil Pressure Sender Unit was bad. The mechanic pushed it back on and I made it home without any noise. I called the dealership and the earliest they could make me an appt was 3 weeks out. No loaner car, my car had just ran out of warranty, and my car did not come up on recall for the list of Engine recalls. I bought the part and a recently retired certified KIA mechanic replaced it. Fast forward 4,000 the issue of the gas pump clicking off when my tank isn’t full has happened again. It started at aprox 36,000 when the engine light came on and it was impossible to put gas in. The car was checked out but nothing showed to be wrong. The code sensor was reset and I was able to fill up. Well this time, nothing is working. After a few seconds , gas spits out. This car has been a. issue for the last 45,000 miles and my dealership was always booked. I’ve always had the oil changed on time as well as the other maintenance. None of my other vehicles have been so unreliable. I don’t feel I should have to pay for these things when 80,000 miles is not very many in 5 years.
MY 2017 KIA FORTE HAS MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS AFTER ONLY 130,000 MILES. THE CAR JUST DIED ON MY SON GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND AFTER IT STARTED MAKE LOUD KNOCKING NOISE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ON AT ALL. THE ENGINE IS DONE FOR. I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THIS CAR AND HAVE KEPT IT MAINTANCED WELL. I HAVE REALIZED AFTER READING ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE WITH ISSUES THAT THE OIL PUMP ON THE CAR HAVE CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE AND KIA HAS REPLACED ENGINES. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS WHAT HAS CAUSED MY TROUBLES
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that the ABS warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power and the engine was sputtering. The contact stated she pulled off the road and turned the vehicle off and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the ignition coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not taken back to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,258.
Ongoing acceleration and shaking issues. Lose power randomly and has stalled randomly. Now is frequent. I was told it is normal for cars to have some shaking however this is not normal. I try to accelorate and cannot, I had my own diagnostic test done and asked for the coil to be replaced. Kia said it was the spark plugs. Took the car back the next day because I again couldn't accelerate. Over a week later and no communication and I called and left a message. Now kia said it is the coil. Car now at approx 71K miles.
In mid July 2022, the engine light was flickering on and off and my car started shaking. The KIA dealership told me the car needed the spark plugs to be replaced so I replaced the ones that they recommended. Then 2 weeks after that service the engine light came on again and my car began to shake so I took it in and they found a recall on the the ignition coils. They replaced those and then the next day the engine light came on and my car started shaking but this time, I started loosing acceleration in the car and the engine light stayed on. The KIA dealership tried to charge me $364.55 per ignition coil. It is scary to drive because I still have to go to work and church.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while making a stop the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump, but the failure occurred several times. On a different occasion the vehicle stalled and shut down completely. The vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to a repair facility where they replaced the vapor canister purge valve and the canister solenoid, but it did not repair the vehicle. The vehicle then was towed to a Kia dealer where they did a fuel injector service and clear codes and a transmission fluid flush on the vehicle, but the failure reoccurred. The dealer was not able to determine the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 94,777.
Powertrain, engine light on, losing power
While son was driving on I10 at 65-70 mph engine died. Was able to restart to pull off the side of the highway. Car driven to Kia dealership with loud knocking noise, using side roads with another driver following. Kia confirmed that engine needs replacement and is a known issue. Our vehicle was in the Kia system under a different owner's name/address so we did not receive the 'courtesy notification' to have a fix that would extend warranty to cover engine problem. Many calls to Kia have not resulted in an agreement to fix or acknowledge severity of issue as far as engine failing while driving at a high rate of speed with an issue that is known to them.
My car stalled in the middle of a busy rotary …no lights or warning…never had an issue with the car until that day …I always was on top of all maintenance…was very dangerous as I was in traffic and it just stopped working..,was luckily not rearended…when brought to a mechanic he inspected it and stated it was the engine and that it was no good anymore…I did some research and found a lot of other Kia Forte of this year have had same issue but dealership said it’s not recalled and they would not replace until the government recalls it..This is a major safety issue as there was no warning at all that the engine had an issue, and this has happened to my last Kia …that was a 2015 optima and that engine was recalled so was able to get it replaced by dealership and I still have the car …I love my Kia but this is unexceptionable and DANGEROUS The car is currently at a mechanic waiting for a new engine to be installed at my expense…extremely expensive …do not have invoice yet as it’s not a completed job but I will be keeping in the event that this does become a recall as it is a hazard as there is no warning at all
The engine is malfunction. My car is shaking feally bad, as well as while driving it seems like it wants to shutdown. My engine warning indicator stays lit.
I was driving in the highway in front of a semi truck and the car engine failed. I couldn’t accelerate or slow down and I could barely turn the wheel. The semi just barely missed me. This is the second engine failure in a year. Kia replaced my engine with a brand new one in January of 2022 but have not added my vin number to the engine recall.
I started my car on Friday July 29th@9:45 am. The car sounded like it backfired. Then i attempted to drive to work thinking it was a fluke.. but a mile away the engine sputtered and then stopped. I had no warning lights come on in my car ever. I had the car towed to the local dealer kia(cherry hill nj) and they havent done anything for me yet. They keep telling me there are open recalls on the car… but I can not fine this recall info anywhere. I was never notified of a recall, via, mail, phone, email. I dont understand. My car has 51k miles on it, and it was purchased in late september of 2017. So i an within the warranty, and dont understand why this even happened!
In or around July 10th, 2022, the vehicle’s engine began making knocking sounds on several occasions while my wife was driving. On July 20th, 2022, I brought it into the dealership (Dick Hannah Kia, Vancouver, WA) where it was diagnosed as a problem with a bearing of a piston rod within the engine. On my drive to the dealership, I experience a loss of power, knocking sounds from the engine, and the oil light come on indicating a loss of oil pressure. Vehicle has 70,xxx miles. Dealership has advised me that the vehicle is unsafe to drive, but is failing to cover this under powertrain warranty. Seeing that this an engine similar to those noted in a NHTSA as related to Flaherty et al. v. Hyundai Motor Company et al., I wanted to file a safety report so that others are aware of the potential safety issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that the trunk release failed to open the trunk as designed. The contact was able to use the key fob to open the trunk. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V622000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Rod bearing has failed, as I was driving my car jolted and die as I was on the highway and almost got hit in the rear due to my car not being able to move. Unknown, unknown.i did not have any warning lights prior or after this happen
Coil pack failed - car died with no warning driving down interstate. My mechanic found a code for a cylinder and replaced the coil pack. The car started acting the same as it did in the days prior to the engine dying while driving. I took it back to the mechanic and it showed no code. Started researching and saw a recall on coil packs on a third party website. Took it to dealership and they verified this but said they could not replace because one of the coil packs was after market and would not be reimbursed by manufacturer for any of them if all four were not returned. The manufacturer tells me there is no recall except for the trunk latch and that there is a service action they are not required to cover because it isn’t a safety issue. Seeing as how I nearly got ran over by an 18 wheeler, I’d say that it is a safety issue and my mechanic assures me it is not normal to have to replace coil packs this early. Since the problems are intermittent and no code shows up until the could pack fails, it is unsafe to drive. I’ve also noticed many people having the same problem on several complaint web sites. Someone is going to get hurt or killed.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 58 MPH, he heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. While the contact was pulling over to the side of the roadway to see where the sound was coming from, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the engine failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unable to speak with a representative at the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 98,200.
Fuel door latch does not release properly preventing me from filling the vehicle and possibly running out of fuel while in traffic
MY 2017 KIA FORTE IS A EASY TARGET FOR THE " KIA BOYS" HERE IN COLUMBUS OHIO.. MY CAR WAS A VICTIM OF THEFT WHERE MY PASSENGER GLASS WAS SHATTERED AND MY STEERING COLUMN WAS TAKEN APART AND MY IGNITION WAS JAMED IN BY A SCREWDRIVER. KIA HAS MADE THIS CAR susceptible TO THEFT AND HAS NOTHING TO DO ABOUT IT. I WANT RELIEF FROM THIS HAZARD.
The 2017 Kia was parked in the attached garage of a private residence when a fire broke out. The building was fully involved by the time first responders arrived shortly after midnight on May 19, 2022. Both residents of the home were deceased at the scene, in separate bedrooms. The point of origin of the fire was determined to be at the Kia, which was heavily damaged in the fire. The individual making this report is the attorney representing the estates of the decedents.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, smoke was coming in through the A/C vents. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact drove to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a lack of engine oil caused the vehicle to overheat as there was no engine lubricant. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to two other independent mechanics where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to excessive oil consumption however, the contact had been completing oil changes every 3,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the engine replacement however, the dealer informed the contact that he would be responsible for the cost of the repair due to the vehicle mileage. The vehicle was then taken to a second dealer Greenway Kia West Palm Beach (735 S Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415) who completed an engine update and informed the contact that he did not need an engine replacement; however, the failure recurred increasingly. The vehicle was taken back to the second dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 144,200.
Engine can stall at lower speeds (10-30 mph) after being on the highway for an extended amount of time. Can also happen after being on the highway, parking and waiting for some time (30 min), and start driving again at lower speeds. Issue becomes more prominent when going uphill slowly (little to no pressure on gas pedal). A rumble can sometimes be felt through the gas pedal too, but not always. Usually the engine starts making some noise ('gurgling') to indicate that the engine is in this state and it usually stall after coasting for some time or pressing very little on the gas (noise may become louder when doing this). I've seen the engine stall around 1000 rpm when doing this. Sometimes the oil light will also start appearing and it seems that the engine is not being responsive when pressing on the gas pedal. Car can stall in these cases or may recover and eventually stall. I've had this issue since the beginning of the year, but an engine check light has not come on for it since then (other than one for a spark plug and coil, but this was addressed in February 2022). Safety concern is mostly when driving in cities or at lower speeds and making unprotected left/right turns where the car may possible stall. Mechanic was able to reproduce this in February but suggested that I take the car to the dealer after difficulty finding the cause . Dealer was unable to solve it in April and suggested waiting for a check engine light.
On June 5, 2022 at approx. 45 miles per hour, my 2017 Kia Forte just without warning shut off. Luckily there were no cars on the usually busy road so I immediately pulled over to the side of the road and put my emergency flashers on. Was able to start the car and drove another 3 miles home. In my driveway, I opened the hood and smelled a burning smell and a slight coolant smell ( although the operating temp gauge read normal) , and I heard a knocking sound at the bottom of the engine. I turned the engine off, checked the oil level (normal) and coolant level (normal). I scanned the OBD and NO CODES came up. Called Kia dealership (the car is still under warranty with 76000 miles but they cannot look at the car until July 1.
My car is stalling. Stalled on the highway. Has knocking sound. And if i let up off the gas at all it stalls. Will stall in neutral as well. Was involved in an accident last year and airbags did not deploy even though they should have. My car started stalling at 86,000 miles with regular oil changes. I’ve only had the vehicle about a year and a half. My lights also are shorted out due to the trunk not closing all the way and rain water getting in. I’m still making payments. I do not know what to do. I’m a sole caregiver to my terminally Ill mother. I need this car. I do not make very much money.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated that while an independent mechanic was performing an inspection, the contact was informed that the passenger’s side rear taillight was faulty and needed to be replaced. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was informed that the failure was due to water intrusion into the taillight housing. Additionally, the contact stated that the wheels were rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
I have only had the car about a year. Bought it used and within 7-10 months I’ve had to get spark plugs replaced, and ignition coil replaced as well. I’m having this issue once again after getting the things about fixed in January of 2022. It is now may of 2022 and I’m still having the same issue. I’ve read online that this is a recurring theme with this model.
When it rain, both rear taillight accumulate water inside of taillight lenses causing lights to blow. Dealership has replaced gaskets and it still happens. lights go out and no warning light indication on dash. Concerned this might contribute to rear end accident. This is a one owner car and no know accident to vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The front and rear windshields has some kind of defect when oncoming headlights are approaching there is a snowburst type of glare affect that is not clear but blurry. Can't see oncoming objects or street signs clearly.
I was driving and the oil light came up on the dash blinking at first and then solid then the acceleration went down and then the battery light came on and my car didn’t accelerate anymore. It also smelled like burning gas or oil and then I turned it off and had it towed. My car won’t even start anymore after turning it off.

The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V622000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the dealer informed the contact that the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the trunk was making rattling sounds. The contact veered to the side of the road and manually closed the trunk and the trunk engaged and locked securely. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving and he was unable to close the trunk using the key fob or by manually closing the trunk. The contact drove to a parking lot and was able to close the truck with tape. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and suggested that the contact repair the vehicle at his own expense and he might be reimbursed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000. VIN tool confirms parts are not available.
1st incident, 10/09/20 water intail lights smells of mildew 2nd " 11/1/20 water is leaking in trunk installed new gaskets to the tail lights 3rd " 6/9/21 removed drivers seat and gas/trunk latch lever and fuel door lever cable cable was found to be stretched and needs replaced. Parts were ordered 01/10/22 parts never came in because according to Kia they don't know how to fix it. I'am so sorry I bought this car with 2,992.31 still owed you should compensate by paying this off
My car is constantly stalling and I have nearly gotten into several accidents because it would stall at red lights, or while driving, turning it stalls. In order to keep it from stalling have to keep putting it into neutral. I can't get a proper scan on it because the engine light isn't on. This has been happening for about 2 months and it is getting worse. I have under 50,000 miles on it.
The trunk of my 2017 Kia Forte wouldn’t open in the morning. I checked for a solution online and saw there was an active recall (SC216) on the latching mechanism of the trunk which was causing it to get stuck. Took it to the dealership to get it fixed. They fixed it but then told me I needed to pay for it. When I told them it was a recall issue they took the new part off and told me to leave. Now my trunk doesn’t close and it’s being held in place with a piece of string.

Both low beams stopped working. High beams and all other lights work I replaced the bulbs and the low beams don't work at all and there's no relay or fuse and I can't find the problem
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while reversing out of a parking spot with the vehicle in reverse, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle inadvertently drove forward speedily. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond and crashed into a tree. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no warning lights illuminated. A police report was filed. The contact sustained neck, shoulder, and back injuries and sought medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Trunk latch on my vehicle gets stuck can only open after jumping down on hood while pulling lever at the same time intermittently happens. Lately been happening more often than not.
I’ve been having problems with my 2017 forte5 Lx for the last few months. The brake calipers tend to lock up from time to time causing my pads to smoke like crazy. I’ve had my brakes serviced 6 times within the last year. Nothing seemed to help and I’ve barely used the vehicle out of concern for safety. Recently, I spoke with a tech at my local dealership. He informed me that my forte has rubber bushings on one of the caliper pins that swells and gets stuck. His solution was to replace the defective pin with another pin that doesn’t include the bushing. Since I followed his advice, my brakes haven’t locked up at all. The original intent for the bushing was to reduce caliper noise but it does not help, instead hindering performance. The reason for my complaint is that this can cause the brakes to overheat and start a fire, while decreasing the ability to brake.
Leaving work last week and noticed my trunk was open. Thought maybe I had accidentally pressed the release button and went to close but trunk latch wouldn not latch down and close. Had to fold the back seats down and crawl into the trunk while a coworker held the trunk shit and use a flathead screwdriver to manually lock the latch. After doing so now the trunk will not open.
My head lights keep shutting off and stop working, they have replace it twice already and again today Oct 7th 2021ir stopped working again, now I just replaced the bulbs on Sept 15th 2021 there shouldn't be any reason to change it out this soon. I keep calling the dealership about it and nothing back from them. Today I ended up not seeing and hit into a curb and smashed up the side by my tire on the passenger side, I'm very upset with kia they are putting my family in danger by not fixing it correctly.
I got this car in January, it's only October and my speed doesn't accelerate. When I step on the gas pedal there is a huge kick and my RPM goes from under one to 4 or 5 to get to 20mph. I noticed that I could change the drive to D1 and D2 but when driving and going over 30mph my car is in D6. I have yet to find a solution. No warning lights have come on yet but I don't want it to get to that point before having the car for a year.
Coils are repeatedly breaking despite being replaced. Seems to be a common issue with this make/model but hasnt been recalled.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving at 30 MPH, when the contact heard a loud popping noise coming from the vehicle, the contact noticed that when depressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact saw the check engine light warning light illuminated on the vehicle. The contact had to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and attempted to restart the vehicle which it did and contact smelled something burning from the interior of the vehicle and noticed smoke coming from the front hood of the vehicle. The contact was able to continue to drive to their work. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after work and continue drive to their destination, however, the failure persisted, The contact check the vehicle later that day and noticed the there was no oil in the engine and a major oil leak underneath vehicle undercarriage. The contact had the vehicle towed to the local dealer to have inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the failure engine sensor was damaged and the fuel pump was damage on the vehicle as well failure where the trunk latch will not open on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage approximately 75,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while attempting to open the rear trunk door lid, it was discovered that the trunk door lid could not be opened while using the key fob, the trunk release, or the emergency trunk release. Later while driving approximately 70 MPH, the trunk lid suddenly opened and could no longer be closed or secured. A cell phone cord was used to secure the trunk door lid. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number 21V622000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 44,300.
THE ENGINE FAILED DURING EVENING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE CAR STALLED IN TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT CUT BACK ON. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED OUT OF THE ROAD AND TOWED HOME. PREVIOUSLY THE ENGINE LIGHT DID APPEAR ON IN THE CAR BUT A RECENT OIL CHANGE WAS DONE ON THE CAR WHICH CAUSED THE LIGHT TO GO AWAY. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FROM THE SHOP AFTER OIL CHANGE WAS DONE AND CAR STALLED ONCE ON THE WAY HOME. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR RECALLS AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR (RECALL NO. 21V260000)CAR WAS TAKEN TO KIA DEALERSHIP A DAY OR 2 LATER AND A DIAGNOSTICS WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE BY THE KIA DEALERSHIP. THE KIA DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE ENGINE OF THE CAR. THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE CAR DESPITE ME SHOWING THEM THE RECALL NUMBER THE KIA DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CAN FIX IT FOR $7600 OR I CAN GET ANOTHER CAR AND PUT DOWN BETWEEN $5000-6000. THEY ALSO SAID BEING THAT MY CAR WASN'T APART OF THE RECALL THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS SHOWING SIGNS THAT WAS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY PARKED IN MY BACKYARD AND CURRENTLY NOT DRIVEABLE.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the check engine and oil warning lights illuminated and then the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to pull over and park the vehicle in a parking lot where the vehicle remained. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not associated with any recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
While driving normal 35 mph speed engine started knocking loudly, pulled into parking lot shut it off. Called dad, an ASE Master Mechanic, told him what happened. He told me to start it so he could hear it, bang, bang BOOM! stench, smoke car died. He told me it sounded like the rod bearing . Got towed home. Towed to Kia dealer near home, they diagnosed blown rod bearing engine toast. This is probably the SAME engine the lawsuits were about with the SAME PROBLEM. I am thrilled that no-one was hurt, there had been fires, explosions etc. If it happened on the freeway it could have been BAD!
Trunk latch apparently broke and trunk popped opened on it's own while driving. We have not been able to tie it down due to broken latch. Obscures view and cannot be driven safely at this time. Has not been seen or confirmed by a repair shop yet
My vehicle is stalling out while I am driving. Also I have to at times try too start it twice wont turnover on first try.Has been reported to dealer they dont seem to know what the problem is. I called 2 months ahead of April 2021 and Kia told me they were so booked up they couldn't see me till almost 2 months later. Car is still doin the same.
My car has gone in twice to the dealer for “engine missfire” both times coils were replaced under warranty, now the car just hit 60212 milles and engine missfire code again, this time not covered under warranty. Car has a bad shake at start up and moderate speeds. Third time in the past year.
The contact owns a 2017 KIA Forte. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power with an abnormal clicking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle eventually stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and coast to the side of the highway as the engine ceased. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact saw oil leaking in the engine compartment. The contact left the vehicle on the highway and walked home. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. Two weeks later, the vehicle was initially towed to her grandfather's home where he discovered debris in the oil pump which he linked to the vehicle failure. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where they informed her that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V260000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
My vehicle is at 60,116 miles. While driving down the interstate, it started making a slight rattling noise. Then not even 5 minutes later it made this awful sound, smoke was going everywhere and it was pouring oil out. The traction control light, engine light, and oil light all came on. It had thrown a rod through the engine. Prior to this, there were no issues at all. No engine light. No rattling. Nothing. It just happened all at once within 5 minutes.
The contact owns a 2017 Kia Forte. The contact stated while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with the engine needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 21V260000 (Engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and informed the contact that the issue falls on the driver due to improper maintenance. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
The car keeps giving a misfire code. Kia says the only recall is for the coil boots. They replaced the coil boots and the car is still giving the misfire code. I see lots of people having to replace the coils to fix the problem. I asked kia about this and they say there is no problem with my coils. At this point my car isnt usable and kia says theres nothing they can do. The car loses power and stalls while driving along. It also does the same thing while at an idle.
2017 KIA FORTE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND WAS HEADING TO MECHANIC. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR COMPLETELY DIED WHILE DRIVING AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. OIL PAN FLASHED ON SO OIL CHANGE WAS DONE ON SPOT. THE CAR DROVE FINE THEN DAYS LATER SAME ISSUE OCCURRED. GOT CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC FOR THE MECHANIC TO TELL ME THERE WERE FOREIGN PARTICLES STUCK IN BOTH THE OIL PUMP AND OIL PAN THAT LED TO ENGINE DAMAGE NOW NEEDING A NEW ENGINE. TAKE MY CAR TO KIA DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL THAT I SEEN ONLINE FOR POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO FAULTY OIL PUMP AND KIA IS NOT HONORING THE RECALL SINCE IT HAS A DATE POSTED FOR LATER THIS YEAR IN JUNE.
THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT. I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS 3 TIMES. I WAS DRIVING ONE NIGHT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THAT WAS VERY DANGEROUS. THAT WAS MY SECOND SET OF HEADLIGHTS NOW I'M ON MY 3RD SET AND THE DRIVERS SIDE WENT OUT. I PAID EXTRA FOR THE BEST SET OF HEADLIGHTS AUTOZONE HAD TO OFFER AT THE TIME AS I WAS IN DESPERATE NEED SO I COULD DRIVE HOME AND IT STILL LASTED THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, PURCHASED ON 1/22/2021. ALSO, THEY'RE ALWAYS DIM. FOR THE MOST EXPENSIVE SET OF LIGHTS I EXPECTED MORE. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND SEEN THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE. WHY IS THIS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE? SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT. PLEASE RESEARCH THIS AND SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE. HEADLIGHTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. I HAVE TWO OTHER VEHICLES. A 2017 DODGE JOURNEY THAT HAS NEVER NEEDED A HEADLIGHT CHANGE AND A 2007 FORD ESCAPE THAT HAS ONLY NEEDED A FEW HEADLIGHTS IN ITS ENTIRE EXISTENCE. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. THE DATE LISTED BELOW IS THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT.
I ALREADY FILED A COMPLAINT ON THIS PREVIOUSLY, HOWEVER IN 2020 MY ENGINE FAILED STOP WORKING. AND I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE IT OR FIX IT. I LOST MY JOB, I HAD TO GET A RENTAL CAR. THE CAR LOST SPEED WHILE DRIVING AND WOULD NOT GO ANYMORE..
AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN VEHICLE CRASH AT ABOVE 30 MPH
I WAS DRIVING DOWN 84TH ST AND CAME TO THE LIGHT ON 84TH AND PACIFIC AVE AND THE ENGINE WANTED TO DIE OUT AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT RUNNING AND THEN TURNED RIGHT ONTO PACIFIC AVE AND WENT TO 80TH AND PACIFIC AVE AND THE CAR DIED OUT TOWED IT TO THE HOUSE AND CHECKED THE OIL AND EVERYTHING AND THERE WAS NO OIL THE OIL INDICATOR LIGHT DID NOT TURN ON AT ANY POINT OF TIME SO I ADDED OIL AND STARTED THE ENGINE BACK UP AND NOW IT HAS A ENGINE KNOCK LIKE THE ROD BEARING WENT OUT I AM GOING TO CONTACT THE KIA DEALER IN THE MORNING AND SEE WHAT'S THE PROBLEM AND EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING HAPPENED ON CITY STREETS
ENGINE COILS KEEP GOING BAD. FIRST ENGINE COIL WENT BAD AT 60,000 MILES AND NOW MY SECOND ENGINE COIL HAS GONE UP AT 67,000 MILES.
TRUNK OF CAR WILL NOT CLOSE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE ONE DAY IT CLOSES THE NEXT DAY IT WON'T
TRUNK LID OPENS WHILE DRIVING
MY CAR KEEPS SHUTTING DOWN...STOPS RUNNING, HAVE TO START IT AGAIN TO KEEP GOING
ON 3/9/2021 I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT AND MY KIA WAS HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT WAS HIT SO HARD THAT THE IT LEFT A HOLE IN THE DOOR AND MY TODDLER WAS SITTING IN HIS CAR SEAT. WHEN THE FORE DEPT ARRIVED THEY NOTICED THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY AIR BAGS SHOULD'VE DEPLOYED. I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON A CITY STREET AT ABOUT 35 MILES AND HOUR WHEN I WAS HIT.*DT*DT*JB*JB
I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AT THE END OF 2017. I HAVE TAKEN EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF THE CAR. A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO, I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET SOMETHING COSMETIC FIXED ON THE INTERIOR. I PICKED UP MY CAR AND WHEN I GOT HOME I REALIZED BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND ONE BRAKE LIGHT WERE NOT WORKING. I TOOK MY CAR BACK IN AND THEY INSISTED THAT WHEN ONE LIGHT GOES OUT, THEY ALL GO OUT WHICH ISN'T TRUE. I INSISTED THAT THERE MUST BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND THAT I WANTED A TECHNICIAN TO CHECK IT SINCE MY LIGHTS WERE WORKING JUST FINE WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN. AFTER MANY DIFFERENT APPOINTMENTS AND INSPECTIONS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS MY WIRING HARNESS THAT WAS BROKEN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER IT. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER SAME THING HAPPENED ON THE LEFT SIDE, WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER IT. THE TECHNICIAN EVEN STATED THAT THE ENGINE GOT TOO HOT AND MELTED THE WIRES. HE WAS SURPRISED WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THIS ISSUE SINCE IT HAPPENED ON BOTH SIDES WITHIN A YEAR TO A CAR THAT IS FAIRLY NEW AND REALLY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. HAVING BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHT NOT WORKING IS VERY DANGEROUS. ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING IN A DARK AND RAINY AREA. HOW HAS THIS HAPPENED TO SO MANY PEOPLE AND THIS VEHICLE HASN'T BEEN RECALLED? I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN KIA AND THINK THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OR RECOURSE. AFTER READING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINS THAT ARE THE SAME, I AM SHOCKED KIA HAS NOT TAKEN CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START-UP. NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO KIA AUTOSPORT OF PENSACOLA (6637 PENSACOLA BLVD, PENSACOLA, FL 32505). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED WITH NO PROBLEM. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG MAY HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO START OR MISFIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY GOING 70. 2017 KIA STARTED MAKING TICKING NOISE NO OIL LIGHT ON OR ANY WARNINGS AFTER FEW MILES ROD WENT THROUGH SIDE OF BLOCK THEN INTO STARTER DAMAGING IT LEAVING CAR DISABLED. REMOVED ENGINE FROM CAR TO REPLACE OPENED THE ENGINE UP AND FOUND TO BE A RESULT OF A RECALL ISSUE CAR HAS 104000 ON IT. FOUND SUMP FILTER CLOGGED WITH BEARING MATERIAL RESTRICTTING OIL FLOW. THE DEALER OR KIA WONT DO ANYTHING REFUSING TO FIX IT. I NOW HAVE A NEW ENGINE ORDERED AND GETTING IT WENSDAY, THE CAR IS NOT EVEN PAID OFF AND AS A RESULT I CAN NOT MAKE IT TO WORK TO MAKE A LIVING TILL I GET THE ENGINE INSTALLED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 4 MONTHS.
THE TRUNK OF MY VEHICLE JUST OPENS ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THEN WHEN I PULL OVER TO CLOSE IT WON'T. THE LATCH IS NOT ENGAGING, ONCE I GET THE LATCH TO CATCH THEN I CAN'T GET MY TRUNK TO RE-OPEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 30, 2021.
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. MY VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE SO I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE UP AND MY VEHICLE STOPPED, THANKFULLY I DID NOTHING HIT ANYONE OR ANYTHING. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I DROVE FORWARD AND MY ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON; AFTER NO MORE THAN 30 SECONDS, THE LIGHT TURNED OFF. ALL HAS BEEN FINE SINCE, HOWEVER I LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY KIA HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH CARS LUNGING FORWARD AND CAUSING MAJOR ACCIDENTS. I HONESTLY AM TERRIFIED FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TO ME.
2.0 HAS 73K MILES ON IT. ENGINE NOISY WHEN COLD START, LIKE A RATTLE AND KNOCK FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS. OIL IS GOOD AND NO CODES. EVEN WHEN WARMED UP, THE ENGINE ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE THE MULTI PORT ENGINES MADE IN THE 80'S AND 90S WHEN ACCELERATING. KIND OF A 'WA WA WA WA WA' SOUND. TO ME, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS READY TO 'CHECK OUT'. SOMEONE TOLD ME IT COULD BE ROD BEARINGS.
MY CAR ENGINE STARTS TO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY FOR NO REASON AND IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON SOMETIMES WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS IDLE AND DRIVING ON STREETS AND/OR HIGHWAYS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES TO SEE IF IT STOPPED TO HEAD BACK HOME OR IT DOESN'T STOP AND I HAVE TO GET HOME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND I WAS ADVISED THAT MY COIL PACK WAS BAD.I ASKED WHAT CAN I DO TO PREVENT THIS AND THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME 'THIS IS JUST SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS WITH CARS'. I'VE GOTTEN MY CAR FIXED AT A KIA DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THE PROBLEM CAME BACK LESS THAN A WEEK LATER EACH TIME. IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN AND I HAVE TO GO GET IT REPAIRED AGAIN. THIS BEGAN ABOUT A YEAR INTO HAVING THE CAR. EACH TIME I GET THIS REPAIR IT'S ABOUT $600. I ALWAYS GET ALL MAINTENANCE ON MY CAR, IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, I AM THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER OF THE CAR AND THE EXPLANATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP OF 'THIS IS SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS' IS UNACCEPTABLE WHEN I TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLE. THANK YOU. I TRIED TO TAKE A VIDEO BUT IT DOESN'T SHOW THE SHAKING WELL, I CAN DEFINITELY FEEL IT THOUGH.
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HID HAVE GONE IN AND OUT WHILE DIVING AT NIGHT..THEN THEY HAVE NOW BLOWN OUT TWICE.AT $100 DOLLARS A PIECE..THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE..!! THERE SEEMS TO BE A SHOT CIRCUIT IN THE LIGHT SWITCH ITSELF..IT HAS BLINKED OFF WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNAL AS WELL WHICH LEADS ME TO COME TO THIS CONCLUSION..
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD, THE HEADLIGHT WORKED AS DESIGNED. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE USING THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAD LIGHT BECAME INOPERABLE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WATER WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE FROM THE TRUNK AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT AND REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KARP BUICK (400 SUNRISE HWY, ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY 11570) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TWICE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 39,400.
THE AUTOMATIC TRUNK LATCH WILL NO LONGER WORKS , SO THE TRUNK OF MY CAR IS OPENED. THE BUTTON ON THE KEY PAD WORKS FINE BUT THE LATCH WILL NOT LOCK . MY CAR WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX.
HEADLIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN AFTER REPLACEMENT WITH NEW HEADLIGHT BULBS. THERE HAS BEEN ONE OCCASION WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A BUSY ROAD. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS AT LEAST EVERY 6 MONTHS BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. *WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN* DATE IS THE MOST RECENT OF ALL OCCURRENCES. HEADLIGHTS ARE ALSO ALWAYS VERY DIM EVEN WITH NEW BULBS.
FRONT WINDSHIELD SMEARS EVERYTIME I USE WINDSHIELD WIPER. I NOTICED THIS WHEN I FIRST GOT THE CAR BUT THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT, AND IT WOULD GO AWAY EVENTUALLY. NOW, I TRY TO AVOID DRIVING WHEN IT RAINS BECAUSE IT SEEMS THE WIPERS JUST MAKES IT WORSE. ALSO, MY HEADLIGHTS DO NOT DO ANY JUSTICE. SOMETIMES I THINK I DO NOT HAVE THEM ON BECAUSE OF HOW DIM THEY ARE. AT NIGHT, I WOULD HAVE TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS ON THE HIGHWAY OR REGULAR ROADS SOMETIMES TO AVOID SHARP TURNS OR JUST TO SEE THE STREET LINES.
MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE BARELY ON. I CAN NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT WITHOUT USING MY HIGH BEAMS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A VEY COMMON PROBLEM THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED BECAUSE IT HAS NOT CAUSED ANY SERIOUS HARM TO PEOPLE. KIA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND DO A SAFETY RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE ENGINE THAT NEEDED A RESET OR UPDATE. THEY FIXED IT WITH NO CHARGE AND TOLD ME TO COME BACK IF IT CAME ON AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT BACK AND WAS TOLD ONE OF MY CYLINDERS WAS MISFIRING SO THEY FIXED IT AND I WAS CHARGED. 3-4 MONTHS LATER MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS AN OLD CODE STORED IN THE CAR. THEY CLEARED THE CODE AND TOLD ME IF THE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN TO BRING IT BACK. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON LESS THAN 48 HOURS LATER. THIS IS FRIDAY AUGUST 21, 2020, I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON AUGUST 29TH TO CHECK MY CAR. WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON MY CAR HESITATES WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS. THE CHECK COMES ON AND GOES OFF. WHEN THE LIGHT IS OFF I DON'T EXPERIENCE THE HESITATION IN THE ACCELERATION. IT MAY COME ON AND STAY ON FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL GO OFF AND REMAIN OFF FOR 1 TO 2 DAYS. THIS WILL BE MY 4TH TIME TAKING MY CAR IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE.
I TOOKEN MY 2017 KIA FORTE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP COUNTLESS OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND STILL WITH NO AVAIL. AS I'M DRIVING THE CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTS SHAKING THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON THEN THE CAR EITHER SHUTS OFF ON ITS OWN THEN GOT TO WAIT IT OUT FOR IT TO START. IF I GO TO TURN ON THE AC THE CAR ALSO SHUTS OFF. I'VE ALMOST GOTTEN HIT DUE TO THE CAR UN RELIABILITY.
ROUGH IDLING. ROUGH GEAR SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND SRUTTER ON 3RD. LOSS OF POWER DURING TAKE OFFS. CAR IS ONLY 20,800 MILES. CHECKED TWICE ON DEALER. ONLY WIPED CODE AND RESET COMPUTER. CLAIM NOT TO BE ABLE TO REPLICATE. ISSUE COMES BACK WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT 30 MINS AFTER DRIVING AWAY.
ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO AGO WHILE GOING UP A HILL I NOTICED THE CAR TRYING TO STALL OUT. IT HAS BEGUN TO DO MORE FREQUENTLY NOW WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE IN IDLE AND/OR PARK ALSO. YOU CANNOT HEAR THE CAR 'KNOCK' BUT IT'S AS IF YOU CAN FEEL IT TRYING TOO. ONE INSTANCE I WAS IN A TURNING LANE AND THE CAR LITERARILY TRIED TO CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. THE RPM'S DROPPED AND CAR JUST FELT REAL SHAKY AND JUMPY. TOTAL EPISODES APPROXIMATELY IN ABOUT 2 WEEEKS I WOULD SAY ARE CLOSE TO MAYBE 10? THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME IN AT FIRST INSTANCE WHEN I WAS GOING UP A HILL AND HAS NEVER GONE OFF. BUT THE PROBLE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED BUT SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN WORSE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND GO OUT COMPLETELY. I HAVE TO FLIP THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH OR TAP THE COLUMN TO GET THEM TO TURN BACK ON . IT HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES ON MY 32 MILE TRIP HOME FROM WORK AT NIGHT . IT HAPPENS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. MAINLY WHEN I USE A TURN SIGNAL OR HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD .
MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE FOR SOME TIME NOW I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR 3 YEARS AND AT FIRST THE HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT AFTER REPLACING THE BULBS I NO LONGER HAVE ENOUGH POWER SOURCE GOING TO THE HEADLIGHTS TO USE MY LOW BEAMS ANYMORE. I TOOK IT TO KIA AND THEY TOLD ME JUST THE LIGHT BULB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND MY WHOLE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHTING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS SOUNDS SO WRONG BECAUSE BOTH THE LIGHTS WORK BUT THEY ARE SO DIM THEY ARE NOT USEABLE. THE DRIVER SIDE WENT OUT FIRST THE CAR WAS STATIONARY THEN A MONTH LATER THE PASSENGER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH DARK GREY SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST TIPS. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CARMAX LOCATED AT 1975 BEAVER RUIN RD, NORCROSS, GA 30071, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
I HAVEN'T EVEN OWNED THIS CAR FOR 7 MONTHS YET AND I HAVE CHANGED THE LIGHTS 20 TIMES! AS SOON AS I CHANGE ONE THE NEXT ONE BLOWS AND THE PREVIOUS ONE WILL BLOW THE FOLLOWING THE WEEK. I'M TIRED OF MAKING PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT KEEPS ACTING CRAZY WITH THE LIGHTS.
MY CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE LIKE IT ALWAYS IS. WENT FOR A WALK AND WHEN I CAME BACK, MY CAR HAD BEEN ON FIRE. AFTER FIRE DEPARTMENT DID THEIR INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DEEMED ELECTRICAL. THE LIGHT IN MY VISOR OR THE WIRING TO IT HAD GONE WRONG. MY WHOLE FRONT OF THE SEATS IS TOTALED.
THE 2017 KIA FORTE MY CLIENT WAS DRIVING WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH RESULTED IN MODERATE TO HEAVY FRONT END DAMAGE, APPROXIMATE SPEED OF IMPACT WAS 20-25MPH, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, OR SLOWING DOWN, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE CAR WILL DIE SUDDENLY. AT FIRST IT WOULD CRANK RIGHT BACK UP, BUT NOW IT IS GETTING MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO GET STARTED AGAIN. VEHICLE ALSO TAKES AWHILE TO GET GOING, EVEN PUSHING ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE GAS, AFTER GETTING IT RESTARTED. *TR
CAR DRIVEN 300 MILES ON ONE TANK OF GAS, TIME TO GET GAS, GAS WON'T GO IN AND WHEN I TRY TO PUT GAS IN MY CAR , IT SPRAYED OUT ALL OVER ME AND THE CAR. VERY SCARY. I CAN'T GET GAS INTO MY CAR. THIS JUST HAPPENED TODAY. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE AND I FILLED UP FINE LAST WEEK. CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE IT'S EMPTY AND WON'T FILL UP. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT EVERY 2-3 MONTHS, ONE AFTER THE OTHER. SOMETIMES ONE WILL GO OUT AND BE OUT FOR A COUPLE DAYS AND THEN COME BACK ON, BUT USUALLY THEY GO OUT AND STAY OUT UNTIL THE BULB IS REPLACED. *TR
WHEN I CAN TO A STOP WHILE CAR IS RUNNING MOST OF THE TIME THE CAR IS SPUTTERING AND WHEN I GO TO ACCELERATE IT SPUTTERS AND IT DOEST TAKE OFF NORMALLY UNLESS I PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL 1/2 TO FULL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS..... *TR
MY CAR HAS BEEN PARKED AND EVERY TIME I GO OUTSIDE MY LIGHTS ARE ON. THE HAS BEEN GOING FOR A MONTH. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS OUT OF MY HEADLIGHTS EVERY SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR THIS HAS GOTTEN TO BE COSTLY. WHEN I?M DRIVING SOMETIMES THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL GO OUT. THESE LIGHTS HAVE HAD ME BUYING BATTERIES AND BULBS . *TR
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE DEC. 2017 WITH 318 MILES. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER WHEN TRYING TO START. FIRST TIME, TOWED IN WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. WENT HOME, NEXT MORNING THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED TO START. AFTER 3RD TRY & LOUD SOUNDING, I POPPED THE HOOD & THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS SHAKING IN ITS CRADLE. TOWED IN AGAIN, DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED COILS MISFIRE & REPLACED. VEHICLE DUPLICATED THE SAME PROBLEM A WEEK LATER. I REPLACED THE BATTERY. VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. THIRD TIME, DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED FUEL PUMP BUT ENDED UP REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM BECAUSE REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP DID NOT FIX THE MATTER. THEY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 2 FULL WEEKS. HAD THE VEHICLE BACK 2 DAYS, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BUT CONTINUED TO SPUTTER. DEALERSHIP HAS NOW HAD MY VEHICLE 5 WEEKS, FIRST SAID THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT KEPT MY VEHICLE ANYWAY. THEN SAID COILS WERE BAD EVEN THOUGH THEY JUST REPLACED THEM 3 MONTHS AGO SOMETHING IS CAUSING THE COILS TO MISFIRE. I HAVE NO ANSWERS. EVEN WITH KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS INVOLVED, NO ONE HAS AN ANSWER. AT ONE POINT KIA CONSUMER AFFAIRS CALLED TO ASK ME HOW THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THEM THEY DID NOT EVEN HAVE MY VEHICLE ANYMORE. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE A REPORT TO MY INSURANCE CARRIER. MY VEHICLE HAS 30,000. I'VE MAINTAINED REGULAR OIL CHANGES & OTHER REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AS SUGGESTED, FAITHFULLY.
BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. I CHECKED THE BULBS WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE FINE. IT SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE IN THE WIRING. I HAVE RESEARCHED IT AND IT IS FAIRLY COMMON. UPON CONTACTING KIA THEY CLAIM IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
I WAS PULLING OUT ONTO A MAIN ROAD. MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND ALMOST STALLED. THE CAR BARELY MOVED FORWARD AND TBE RPMS WERE ERRATIC. I ALMOST GOT HIT BY A TRACTOR TRAILER. WHEN I FINALLY SPUTTERED INTO WORK, THE RPMS IN PARK WERE JUMPING BETWEEN 1000 AND 2000 RPMS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR.. IT ONLY HAS 8,700 MILES...
WHILE DRIVING SMOKE STARTED TO COME FROM UNDER THE HOOD.... I STOPPED AND HAD A PERSON STOP AND HE LOOKED UNDER HOOD TO SEE A GAS LINE BROKE AND WAS MAKING ITS WAY ON THE MOTOR
HAD THIS CAR FROM THE END OF 2017. AFTER ONE YEAR THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON IT FOR THE SPARK PLUGS AND COIL. NOT EVEN 7 MONTHS AFTER GET IT DONE THE NEXT SET THEY ADD IN THE CAR ALMOST BOTTOM OUT ON ME WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR AND SOMEONE ALMOST RAN IN THE BACK OF ME. THEY FIX IT TOOK A WEEK TO GET MY CAR BACK. AND NOW I FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION I ASK THE DEALERSHIP IS IT TIME FOR SERVICE AND THEY SAID NO. I AM A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT THAT. I SAY ON TOP OF ALL MY SERVICE TO THE VEHICLE.
WHEN I BRAKE, THE BRAKING LIGHTS DON'T TURN ON. I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSES AND THE LIGHTS BULBS AND THEY ARE FINE. YET WHEN I BRAKE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T TURN ON.
THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD SEVERAL INCIDENCE OF BEING "LOCKED" AT ONE SPEED. WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE GAS THE CAR WILL SPEED UP UNTIL REACHING 30-35MPH AND WILL NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THE GAS PEDAL COULD BE TOUCHING THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE PAST 35MPH. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED AT OUR LOCAL KIA DEALER IN THE EARLY FALL OF 2019. IT WAS SAID TO BE REPAIRED NOW LESS THAN 6 MONTHS LATER THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS SOMETIMES ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS.
THE CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND IT WOULD START INTERMITTENLY. SOMETIMES IT WOULD START WITH NO PROBLEM BUT SOMETIMES IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I TURN THE IGNITION KEY AND I COULD BARELY HEAR CLICKING SOUND AND NOTHING. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN AND WHERE I WILL BE STRANDED IF THIS HAPPENS. I HAVE LITTLE OVER 80000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND DEALER SAID THIS IS NOT COVER UNDER 100000 MILE WARRANTY. I THINK MANY OTHER KIA OWNERS HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND THIS HAS TO BE A RECALL ISSUE.
3 WEEKS AGO MY VEHICLE WENT THROUGH ITS ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION HERE IN MASSACHUSETTS AND IT FAILED. THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH MY REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WHICH WERE NOT WORKING. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE ELECTRICAL WIRING WAS BURNED OUT DUE TO WATER GETTING INTO THE LINES. HE INDICATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD PROBABLY BE COVERED UNDER KIA'S 10 YEAR WARRANTY. I PLAN TO REACH OUT TO MY LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM INVESTIGATE, AND HOPEFULLY REPAIR THIS DEFECT ON THEIR DIME. ANY INPUT OR RELATED ISSUES BROUGHT TO YOUR ATTENTION WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS WELL AS IF YOUR ORGANIZATION HAS ISSUED A RECALL ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE.
ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD THE TIRES BLOWOUT ON MY VEHICLE. ONCE WHILE DRIVING AND THE OTHER OCCASION WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND HAD NOT BEEN MOVED FOR THREE DAYS. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 27,000 MILES AND HARDLY ANY THREAD WEAR. THE TIRES ARE KUMHO 205/R16 55
WHILE DRIVING MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN INCREASED VIBRATION. THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF WHEN COASTING AND TURN BACK ON WHEN ACCELERATING. BY THE TIME I GOT HOME THE VIBRATIONS CONTINUED EVEN WHEN IN PARK AS WELL AS NOT ACCELERAING. ENGINE CODE P0303 WAS READ FROM THE ENGINE LIGHT. I HAVE NOW REPLACED THE SECOND COIL PACK ON A CYLINDER IN THE PAST 5 MONTHS.
I WAS DRIVING MY KIA FORTE 2016 IN A REGULAR STREET WHEN IT STARTED JERKING BEFORE IT STALLED. LUCKILY I PULLED UP QUICKLY ENOUGH TO AVOID BEING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAITED FEW MINUTES THEN I STARTED IT AGAIN AND I DROVE OFF. I DID NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT I STARTED LOOKING INTO IT ONLINE WHEN I REALIZED OTHER KIA MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE.
INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE ANOTHER DRIVER FAILED TO YIELD AND CAUSED THE IMPACT ON 3 LANE ROAD GOING AT ABOUT 40MPH. AT THE POINT OF IMPACT, I WAS THROWN INTO THE STEERING COLUMN. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE SEATBELT LOCK TO KEEP ME FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. MINOR INJURIES SUSTAINED BECAUSE OF LACK OF PROTECTION. THE POLICE OFFICER ON SCENE NOTED THAT NEITHER SAFETY DEVICE WORKED IN MY VEHICLE. THE OFFICER EXAMINED THE BELT. BASED ON THE FACT MY CHEST WAS HIT BY THE STEERING WHEEL THE OFFICER IMMEDIATELY ASSUMED I WAS NOT WEARING A BELT AND ASKED ABOUT IT, BUT I HAD TO CORRECT THE OFFICER'S ASSUMPTION, INDICATING THAT I WAS WEARING MY BELT AND REPORTED TO THE OFFICER THAT THE BELT DID NOT LOCK. THE OFFICER ASKED ABOUT MY SPEED AND I REPORTED THAT MY SPEED WAS BETWEEN 35 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR. THE OFFICER OBSERVED THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND NOTED THIS AS WELL. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AT TIME OF REPAIR BUT NO INDICATION OF A FAULTY AIRBAG OR SEATBELT OTHER THAN NOTING PRODUCT LIABILITY AND TO CONTACT MANUFACTURER.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN MY CAR LOST POWER. I TRIED GIVING IT GAS AND IT JUST WOULD SPUTTER, STILL BARELY MOVING. I HAD PEOPLE ALMOST HITTING ME. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND I JUST HAD BOUGHT IT 60 SOMETHING DAYS AGO. THE CAR WILL JUST LOOSE POWER NO MATTER HOW FAST YOU GOING. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
HAD A SMALL SCRATCH TO FRONT OF VEHICLE STOPPED AEB SYSTEM FROM WORKING. HUTCHINSON KIA, ALBANY, GA CAN'T REPAIR IT BACK TO ORIGINAL AND WON'T REPLACE CAR OR REFUND MY INSURANCE MONEY, GOT TO CLOSE TO A STATIONARY OBJECT AT NIGHT HITTING IT WITH A SCRATCH ON FRONT GRILL
ON 11/10/2019 IN N.C. THE TEMP DROPPED DOWN TO 29 DEGREES THE NEXT MORNING I GET UP TO START MY CAR AND THE BATTERY DRAGGED SO I HAD TO GET A BOOST. IT RAN ALL THAT DAY, THEN SUNDAY THE SAME THING APPENED AGAIN I HAD TO GET A BOOST. I WENT TO BUY A BATTERY AND ONCE THE BATTERY WAS TAKEN OUT WE NOTICED THE POSITIVE SIDE BOX (BOTTOM) HAD MELTED ONTO THE TOP OF THE BATTERY, SO MY BATTERY WAS DAMAGED BY THE BATTERY CABLE BOX.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS 2 TIMES IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THE KEEP GOING OUT.
GOT IN MY CAR TONIGHT TO GO TO THE STORE AND MY HEADLIGHTS WOULDN'T COME ON. CHECL HIGH BEAM IT WORKED. I WAS IN MY DRIVE WAY AND JUST STARTED MY CAR TURNED ON LIGHTS AND NOTHING HAPPEN PARKING LIGHTS AND HIGHBEAM WPRKED.
2017 KIA FORTE [XXX], WHEN I HIT A BUMP, THE REAR END GOES TO THE RIGHT OF LEFT OUT OF CONTROL, ALSO I LOOSE POWER BETWEEN 40- 50 MPH. AT TIMES THE CAR WOULD SHAKE. AFTER ABOUT 60, 000 MILES THE NUMBER 3 CYLINDER MISFIRED. I REPLACED THE COIL PACK AND SPARK PLUG, HOWEVER I'M STILL LOOSING POWER, INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED FAILURES STARTING ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE VEHICLE COULD TAKE UP TO THIRTY MINUTES TO FINALLY CRANK UP AND START. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE PAST YEAR. WEST BROAD KIA (9001 W BROAD ST, RICHMOND, VA 23294, 804-270-9000) WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE IF THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
THE TRUNK LOCK LATCH BROKE, WHEN I WENT TO KIA ABOUT THE PART THEY KNEW THE MAKE MAKE AND MODEL SAYING IT'S BEEN HAPPENING TO A LOT OF THOSE CARS .
IT STARTED WITH THE HEADLIGHTS BURNING OUT REGULARLY AND THEN I NOTICED WATER STARTED ACCUMULATING IN THE HEADLIGHTS AND THEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS AND I CANNOT KEEP MY LIGHTS WORKING I HAVE RECEIVED TICKETS FOR LIGHTNING ISSUES AND I HAVE SPENT A FORTUNE ON BULBS ALREADY AND IT STARTED WITHIN 2-3 MONTHS OF BUYING THIS CAR BRAND NEW
EVERY TIME I HOT A BUMP THE REAR END GOES ALL OVER THE PLACE. ALSO AT A SPEED OF 40 TO 50 MPH THE VEHICLE HESITATE, FOR 10 TO 15 SECONDS FOR NO APARENT REASON. WHILE I'M DRIVING, ESPECIALLY GOING UP A HILL.
IN THE LAST 1 1/2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH LIGHTS GOING OUT. FIRST BOTH BREAK LIGHTS WENT OUT AND I REPLACED THEM. THEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT KEPT GOING IN AND OUT. THE DRIVER'S SIDE BREAK LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN SO I REPLACED IT AGAIN. NEXT THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT COMPLETELY AND I REPLACED IT. AFTER THAT BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE FINE. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT STARTED GOING IN AND OUT AGAIN. I REPLACED IT AND IT WAS FINE. THEN THE PASSENGER SIDE BREAK LIGHT WENT OUT. 7 WEEKS AFTER I HAD BOTH HEADLIGHTS REPLACED AND IN GOOD WORKING ORDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. 4 DAYS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT.
MY HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING BURNING OUT. I HAVE REPLACED THEM AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LIGHT WAS OUT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED ON AUGUST 13, 2019 BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE AT LEAST FIFTEEN TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON NOVEMBER 18, 2017. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,729.
HAS GONE THROUGH 5 SETS OF HEADLAMPS IN THE FIRST YEAR AND A HALF OF CARS LIFE. USUALLY A ELECTRICAL BURNING SMELL OCCURS WHEN BULBS BURN OUT. HAVE ASKED DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH EVERY OIL CHANGE ONLY TO GET CONFUSED LOOKS OR INSURED EXCUSES. ONLY SEEMS TO EFFECT THE FRONT HEADLAMPS AND LED LIGHTS STILL ON ORIGINAL FACTORY REAR LAMPS. HAVE LEFT 6 MESSAGES WITH DEALERSHIP AFTER LAST INCIDENT WITH NO CALL BACK.
REAR BREAK LIGHTS DON'T WORK WHEN LIGHTS ARE OFF, BUT THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT DOES. WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON THE REAR BREAK LIGHTS ARE ON, BUT DON'T GET BRIGHTER WHEN THE BRAKE IS USED. ONLY THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT WORKS LIGHTS ON OR OFF.
CAR WILL RANDOMLY HESITATE AND SHAKE WITH POWERLOSS MAYBE ONCE EVERY FEW DAYS. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHEN COMING TO A STOP THEN ACCELERATING AGAIN AFTER DRIVING FOR 30 MINUTES OR SO .CEL WILL EITHER NOT DISPLAY OR BLINK A FEW TIMES BUT GO AWAY (AND NOT SHOW UP ON THE HISTORY) MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DIAGNOSE. TOOK IT TO 2 KIA DEALERS, BOTH SAID THAT THEY'VE SEEN THIS ON A LOT KIA FORTES., THEY HAVE MADE THE RECOMMENDED REPAIRS BUT STILL HAVE THE ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE AND THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OUT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. SHAWNEE MISSION FORD (11501 SHAWNEE MISSION PKWY, SHAWNEE, KS 66203) WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND REPLACED THE LIGHTS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE OR SWITCH GEARS, THE ENGINE HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. - LOW MILES AND STILL UNDER ALL MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTIES. - ENGINE WILL IDLE ROUGH, VIBRATING THE WHOLE CAR WHILE STATIONARY. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE. - ENGINE ACCELERATION IS POOR FROM STANDING, DANGEROUS IN CITY TRAFFIC. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE. - ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF WHILE TURNING LEFT IN LOS ANGELES CITY TRAFFIC, CAR IS COMPLETELY WITHOUT POWER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS IN CITY TRAFFIC. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM. INSTEAD, DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT ENGINE IS LEAKING OIL. BS. THERE ARE NO OIL DRIPS IN MY PARKING SPACE. ANOTHER MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT MY CAR IS NOT LEAKING OIL. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY 'WILL WORK WITH ME'. MEANING THEY WILL LET ME PAY FOR EACH VISIT BUT THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. ENGINE BURNS OIL. ENGINE BURNS OIL. A NEW CAR SHOULD NOT BURN OIL. - ENGINE WILL SOUND LIKE A SEWING MACHINE WHEN DRIVING FROM STANDING AND TURNING THE WHEEL. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM. (THIS WAS LIKELY DUE TO ENGINE BURNING OIL, OIL LOW; AFTER REFILLING OIL, ENGINE WILL NOT MAKE THIS SOUND.) - I NOW MUST CHECK MY OIL LEVEL AT ALL TIMES BEFORE DRIVING AND REFILL OIL TO FULL MARK ON OIL DIP STICK. HATE KIA. - CAR CABIN IS TOO HOT TO DRIVE IN. METAL ECU AT BOTTOM OF STEERING COLUMN INSIDE CABIN IS 180 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HATE KIA.
IN AUGUST 2018, MY SON STARTED THE CAR AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS NOT OPERATIONAL AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT. CAR STILL DRIVES. (SEE PIC). IN NOVEMBER 2018, WE TOOK THE CAR TO KIA. AFTER 2-3 DAYS, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE, AND SAID TO BRING IT IN WHEN IT OCCURS. UNFORTUNATELY, IT ALWAYS OCCURS AFTER HIS PRACTICE (@6PM), HOTTEST TIME IN S. TEXAS AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS CLOSED. FROM 31MAY-7JUN2019, MY SON SENT ME VIDEOS OF IT HAPPENING (5 DIFFERENT DAYS). SUMMARY: PROBLEM OCCURS DURING HOT DAYS AT START UP (TURNING CAR OFF/ON WILL NOT RESET), VEHICLE WILL OPERATE BUT WITHOUT INSTRUMENTATION, AND IT EVENTUALLY RESETS ITSELF WHEN HE STARTS IT UP AFTER WORK OR THE NEXT DAY. DURING ONE EPISODE IN JUNE, HE HEADED TO KIA; DURING THE DRIVE THE DOOR LOCKS STARTED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING AND HE HEARD CLICKING NOISES. WHEN ALL THIS STOPPED, THE TACHOMETER STARTED WORKING BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS STILL INOP. HE PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF THE CAR, (TO INSPECT IT) AND WHEN HE STARTED THE CAR AGAIN EVERYTHING WORKED. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON OR ABOUT JULY 2017. LESS THAN 2-YEARS OLD AND UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR WAS DROPPED OFF ON 10JUNE2019 AND AS OF TODAY 13JUN2019, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. CONCERNS: PROBLEM IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT, THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT UNTIL IT CAN BE REPLICATED, THEY WILL NOT OFFER A LOANER OR RENTAL; NOR CAN THEY TELL ME IF THE PROBLEM AFFECTS OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR, OR IF IT IS SAFE TO OPERATE DURING THESE EPISODES. IN ADDITION, MY SON HEADS TO COLLEGE (250M AWAY) ON 13AUG2019. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT WORLD CAR KIA, NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS.
CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING HAVE TO KIDS DEALERSHIP WONT DO ANYTHING BEEN GOING ON FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HUNTSVILLE KIA (6519 UNIVERSITY DR NW, HUNTSVILLE, AL 35806 (256) 217-1700) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND A NEW ENGINE SPRING AND IGNITION CORD NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 90,000.
I WAS GOING 65MPH ON HIGHWAY, WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN, I HEARD A LOUD POP ANF CAR STARTED SHAKING. THE HAZARD LIGHT CAME ON AND LOW TIRE PRESSURE AS I WAS TRYING TO CAREFULLY EXIT HWY. MY DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY BUSTED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIRE THAT HAS BLOWN. LAST YEAR IT WAS MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND IT ONLY HAD 12MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASED. MY CAR CURRENY HAD LESS THAN 20 000 MILES ON IT. ..IN BOTH EVENTS, I DID NOT RUN OVER ANYYTHING NOR OBSERVED ANY POTHOLES OR UNEVEN ROAD.
THE FINGER PRESS FAILS TO START WHEN PARKED IN HOT SUN. IT WILL THEN START WITH PRESSING THE KEY ON BUTTON- THEN A NOTICE APPEARS THAT THE KEY IS NOT PRESENT. BUT, CAR THEN RUNS FINE. WHEN I STOP ENGINE A NOTICE SAYS THE KEY BATTERY IS WEAK (BATTERY WAS REPLACED 4 DAYS AGO). LAST YEAR THIS HAPPENED AND SHOP FOUND AN INTERNAL SHORT IN THE SMART KEY ANTENNA. IT DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN THEN TILL ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS AGO.
LEAKING OIL IN THE IN THE OIL PAN GASKET, ALSO A NOTORIOUS CORROSION IN THE ALUMINUM ENGINE BLOCK, THE KIA HAVE LESS THAN YEAR, WHEN I TAKE INTO THE OIL CHANGE, THE DEALER DID A INSPECTION IN THE CAR, BUT NEVER MENTIONED THE LEAKING OIL FROM THE OIL GASKET PAN. THE SECOND PROBLEMS THE BREAK LIGHTS BULBS CONSTANTLY KEEP BURNING IN THE BACK DRIVER SIDE A THE PASSENGERS SIDE. IN ONE YEAR I REPLACED 5 LIGHT BULBS.
KIA FORTE DRIVERSIDE FRONT HEAD LIGHT ON LOW BEAMS WILL NOT COME ON. DEALER STATES PART IS ON BACK ORDER WHEN HAVING OIL CHANGE DONE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. IN THREE WEEKS WILL NEED CAR TO DRIVE POSSIBLE AT NIGHT TO CHILD COLLEGE GRADUATION THROUGH MOUNTAINS. DO NOT KNOW IF OTHER HEAD LAMP WILL MALFUNCTION AND STOP WORKING. THE DRIVERSIDE WAS GOING AND OUT NOW STAYS OFF. VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY.
WHEN DRIVING THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON CAUSES CAR TO LOSE POWER AND STARTS TO SHAKE I WAS COMING UP A HILL AND ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED HAVE TAKEN TO KIA PLACE TWICE NOW AND I WAS TOLD CAN'T BE FIXED UNTIL A RECALL COMES OUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME TO BE DRIVING WITH MY KIDS I PAY A GOOD PENNY FOR MY VEHICLE NOW CAN'T DRIVE IT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE IT'S CONSTANT
THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN FOR OVER 300 MILES ONE THIS PARTICULAR TANK OF GAS, SO I'M CERTAIN THAT THE FUEL GAUGE IS CORRECT; THE GAS LIGHT IS ALSO ON. I PARKED AT A GAS STATION AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. I ATTEMPTED TO FILL THE TANK, BUT THE FUEL WILL NOT GO IN. THE FUEL SPLASHES BACK OUT AND WILL NOT GO INTO THE TANK.
THE FUEL DOOR WILL NOT OPEN WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. PULLING THE LATCH THE FIRST TIME WILL NOT OPEN THE FUEL DOOR. I MUST INSERT SOMETHING SUCH AS A CREDIT CARD, OR TRY TO PRY THE FUEL DOOR WITH MY FINGERS, AND THEN TRY THE LATCH AGAIN BEFORE THE FUEL DOOR WILL OPEN. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR MORE THAN 12 MONTHS.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, WITHOUT ANY OBVIOUS CAUSE, ACCELERATION IS DELAYED FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THEN THE ENGINE WILL SUDDENLY REV HIGH WITHOUT SHIFTING UP. THE PROBLEM BEGAN ABOUT ONE YEAR OR 5000 MILES INTO OWNERSHIP OF THE NEW VEHICLE.
IGNITIONS COIL SPRINGS PART KIA 27303 2E601QQK WAS REPLACED BY KIA DELALER AS PART OF A RECALL ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP. WHEN I ARRIVED , SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT I WAS THERE FOR OIL CHANGE AND TWO RECALLS. I SET APPT. FOR OIL CHANGE, WAS UNAWARE OF RECALL TILL DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR MENTIONED. WHEN I CHECKED WITH NHTSA NO RECALL IS LISTED. KIA NEVER SENT LETTER REQUESTING WE BRING IN CAR FOR RECALL PARTS. IN ADDITION THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO 2ND PART REPLACEMENT DUE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. YDM REAR COMBINATION LAMP.
MY BATTERY HAS FAILED TO START MY CAR TWICE IN A MONTH. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER; THEY RAN IT THROUGH THE COMPUTER; THE BATTERY CAME BACK 'FUNCTIONAL'. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT ALL LAST YEAR! THEIR REMEDY WAS TO DRIVE MORE OR INSTALL A 'TRICKLE CHARGER' ON THE BATTERY. (THIS CAR IS A LEASE; I HAVE HAD IT FOR 1.5 YEARS--PUTTING 3,600 MILES ON IT.) I HAD MY PREVIOUS CAR FOR TWENTY YEARS WITHOUT EVER HAVING THIS KIND OF ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING VERY LOW MILES FOR YEARS WITHOUT A BATTERY ISSUE. THOUGHTS?
ACCELERATING BETWEEN 35MPH AND 45MPH, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE. DRIVER LET OFF GAS AND ATTEMPTED BRAKES WHICH DID NOT ENGAGE. VEHICLE STRUCK GUARDRAIL ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. VEHICLE THEN DID A 180, DRIVER SIDE DOOR THEN COLLIDED WITH THE GUARDRAIL. DRIVER SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES INCLUDING WHIPLASH AND HEAD INJURY. VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING DOWN A 2 LANE CITY ROAD. VEHICLE HAD 46,000 MILES AND WAS JUST SERVICED BY KIA DEALER.
THERE WERE SOME PARTS RECALLED, WHICH I HAS REPLACED AT 20,000 MILES. AT 23,000 MILES ON A TRIP THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AS IF NOT GETTING ENOUGH GAS OR AS IF THE TIMING WAS OFF. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, EVEN AFTER RETURNING CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR 4 DAYS AFTER WHICH THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. WHILE OUT OF TOWN ON A TRIP THE ENGINE LIGHT AND SPUTTERING CONTINUES. I HAVE ALWAYS BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 5,000 MILES OF OIL CHANGE/MAINTENANCE. NOW AT 24,400 MILES I'M HESITANT ABOUT DRIVING A CAR I PURCHASED BRAND NEW.

WHILE SITTING IDLE FOR OVER 45 MINUTES THE CAR STARTED TO VIBRATE. WHEN I BEGAN TO DRIVE IT SHOOK AND DID NOT PICK UP AS IT SHOULD WHEN DRIVING. WHEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IT VIBRATES WORSE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SCHEFULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR JANUARY 4,2019 BUT RECEIVED A CALL TODAY (DECEMBER 31, 3018)TO RESCHEDULE FOR JANUARY 18,2019. I'VE RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM A LITTLE LEERY IN DRIVING THE CAR SINCE THE DEALERSHIP DOESN'T HAVE LOANERS AND I MUST CONTINUE WITH MY DAY TO DAY LIVING. I AM NOT DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WITH THIS PROBLEM. STATED EARLIER
2017 KIA FORTE I BUY THIS CAR BRAND NEW BACK IN DECEMBER 22, 2017 AND LAST MONTH THE CAR START TO SHAKE WHILE I'M DRIVING THEN IT START TO JERK AS IF ITS GETTING READY TO TURN OFF. 3 DAYS A GO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I ONLY DRIVE THIS CAR TO WORK CHURCH NO LONG DISTANCE TRIPS OR ANYTHING I HAVE BEEN GETTING MY OIL CHANGE AND EVERYTHING THAT TO HELP WITH UP KEEP OF MY CAR SO WAS THINKING MY CAR IS A LEMON.
I EXPERIENCED 2 SPONTANEOUS TIRE BLOWOUTS, ON 8/25/18 AND 10/4/18. I HAD HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND CHECKED ON 8/23/18. NEXEN HAS NOT RESPONDED TO MY NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO GET THIS RESOLVED.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 55 IN NJ AND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE POPPED AND SHE PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO THE SHOULDER. A DRIVER FOR NJDOT ARRIVED AND TOLD US THE TIRE WAS DRY ROTTED. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD US THE TIRE WASNT DEFECTIVE. I'M NOT AN EXPERT BUT I FEEL THE TIRE MAY BE DEFECTIVE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 20,00 MILES AND WE HAD THE CAR IN A WEEK PRIOR AND THE TIRES WERE WRITTEN UP AS HAVING 8/32".NEXEN TIRE. PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES ENCLOSED. PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE THE DEFECTIVE TIRE IN OUR POSSESSION ALONG WITH A ANOTHER TIRE FROM THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OEM FACTORY WIPER FAILED TO FUNCTION. AS A RESULT, IT IMPACTED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE DEALER (DESTINATION KIA, 760 CENTRAL AVENUE, ALBANY, NEW YORK 12206, 518-482-0500) STATED THAT THE WIPERS FUNCTIONED NORMALLY; HOWEVER, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WIPER MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER MENTIONED A BUY BACK OFFER, BUT DID NOT ASSIST WITH REPLACING THE FRONT PASSENGER WIPER. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE PART WAS NOT REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5.
ON MARCH 1, VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 10 MIN ON A COLD DAY AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR A FEW HOURS AND 'ENGINE OVEHEATED' CAME UP ON THE DISPLAY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE FOLLOWING DAY TO CABLE DAHMER KIA WHERE THEY SAID THE CAUSE WAS AN ELECTRICAL GLITCH AND THAT THE CAR WAS FINE. ON AUGUST 3RD, I CONTACTED CABLE DAHMER KIA BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IDLING EXTREMELY LOW/STALLING. DEALER STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A LOANER CAR BUT THEY WOULD LET ME KNOW WHEN ONE BECAUSE AVAILABLE. WAS DRIVING ON AUGUST 7TH WHEN CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF WHILE GOING 45MPH DOWN THE ROAD. ALL FUNCTIONALITY WAS LOST. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ROADSIDE WAS DISPATCHED. DEALER PROVIDED LOANER AND HAD THE CAR UNTIL AUGUST 23RD. DEALERSHIP UNABLE TO DUPLICATE CONCERN AND CORPORATE ASKED THAT I PICK THE VEHICLE UP. CORPORATE STATED TO ME THAT CAR WAS FUNCTIONAL AND I DID NOT HAVE A LEGITIMATE CONCERN, EVEN WITH MY VIDEO PROOF OF THE ISSUE. SEPTEMBER 4TH ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN DRIVING AT 60 MPH AND HAD VIDEO FOOTAGE. DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT CORPORATE UNWILLING TO EXCHANGE VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I EXPERIENCED A SPONTANEOUS REAR RIGHT TIRE BLOWOUT. THERE WERE NO POTHOLES. I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP COULD FIND NO CAUSE. THEY SAID IT WAS A "FLUKE".
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, SMELLED SOMETHING "OFF", WITHIN SECONDS ENGINE BURST INTO FLAMES. ENTIRE VEHICLE GUTTED. KIA LITERALLY JUST INSTALLED A NEW ENGINE, STARTER, BATTERY, AND INTAKE 2 DAYS PRIOR DUE TO ENGINE LOCKING UP - WITH 22000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR PEDALS, THEIR FOOT WAS BLOCKED BY SOME KIND OF PARTITION ON THE FLOOR. THE PARTITION WAS LOCATED BETWEEN THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS AND PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM BRAKING OR ACCELERATING IN A TIMELY MANOR. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTO EXPRESS KIA (10320 WATTSBURG RD, ERIE, PA 16509, (814) 825-4747), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,600. *TT CONSUMER STATED YOU AGENT COULD NOT HAVE TAKEN MY REPORT ANY MORE INCORRECT. THE PROBLEM AND DANGER IS ABOVE THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS. WHEN CHANGING FROM GAS TO BRAKES MY FOOT (TOES) IS COMING IN CONTACT WITH AN AIR BAFFLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS GANG FROM GAS TO BREAKS. THIS NEEDS LOOKED INTO BY YOUR AGENCY AND CORRECTED. WAS GOING OVER A SET OF RR TRACKS AND THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW. HAD CAR TOWED TO KIA DEALER THAT I PURCHASED VEHICLE FROM IN MARCH OF 2017. AFTER INSPECTION I LEARN FROM THE KIA DEALER THE WHEEL/RIM HAD CRACKS IN IT, THEY TELL ME THEY BELIEVE THE CAR WAS SOLD TO ME THIS WAY. I DO HAVE WHEEL AND TIRE WARRANTY PACKAGE. KIA IS FLAT REFUSING TO FIX OTHER DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE. PLASTIC LINER IN FENDER WELL, A TPMS SENSOR AND ONE OTHER THING I FORGET WHAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID TO ME IT WAS. THEY WANT ME TO CLAIM ON MY INSURANCE I SAID NO YOUR FAILED WHEEL WITH THE CRACK DAMAGED THE CAR YOU FIX IT. KIA CORPORATE IS FLAT OUT REFUSING TO FIX THE CAR EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER CAN PROVE THE CAR WAS SOLD NEW WITH A FAILED WHEEL/RIM ON IT.
THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY INFORMED THE LIENHOLDER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS POSSIBLY A TOTAL LOSS AND THE LIENHOLDER IGNORED THEM AND SOLD THE VEHICLE TO A PUBLIC AUCTION WITHOUT CONTACTING THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR TO PAY ON THE VEHICLE EITHER. THE OWNER OF THE CAR WAS INJURED IN THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION AS WELL AS A PASSENGER AND THE LIENHOLDER IS AWARE AND STILL SOLD WITHOUT PROPER NOTICE AND THEY CHANGED THE LOCKS OF THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT THE INSURANCE COMPANY FROM DOING A PROPER INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN ON A HIGHWAY AND SHAKES AT 30 MILES AT AN IN LESS THAN 10 MINS. THE VEHICLE ALSO OPERATES ON ITS OWN. THE LIENHOLDER HAD BEEN AWARE OF THE ISSUE SINCE APRIL 2018. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AFTER THE ACCIDENT.
IGNITION RECOIL PROBLEMS THE ENGINE HAS LOW POWER. HAD IT SERVICED AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM
MY CAR BEGINS RANDOMLY SHAKING. I HAVE HAD ALL MAINTENANCE DONE AT THE KIA DEALERSHIP AS PER MY WARRANTY SPECIFIES. THE LAST 4 WEEKS, MY CAR WILL RANDOMLY SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHILE IDLE, ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE IN THE DIFFERENT DRIVE MODES. YESTERDAY, JUNE 21ST, 2018, MY CAR STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AS I WAS PARKED AT THE FOOD CITY IN CHATTANOOGA ON OOLTEWAH RINGGOLD ROAD.I WAS ON FACEBOOK VIDEO MESSENGER WITH MY FRIEND EATING A MCCHICKEN. I DROPPED MY SANDWICH AND IMMEDIATELY POPPED THE HOOD. UPON OPENING, I SEE THE ENGINE SHAKING VIOLENTLY AS BEFORE. MY FRIEND WITNESSED IT AS WELL. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED KIA MOTORS CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY CALLED ROADSIDE SERVICE TO TOW THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN CLEVELAND, TN. TODAY, 6/22/2018, KIA CLAIMED THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND BLAMED BAD GAS. EVEN THOUGH THE SHAKING HAPPENED UPON RETURNING HOME. MY CAR HAS CONTINUALLY DONE THIS EVEN WITH ME USING SHELL, BP, OR 100%GASOLINE. KIA REFUSES TO GIVE ME A FAIR PRICE FOR TRADING TO ANOTHER CAR. THE ENGINE ALSO TICKS. I ASKED ABOUT THIS AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE ON JAN 13TH, 2017 BY THE SALES ASSOCIATE MATT HAKE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL, EVEN THOUGH THE TICKING AS INTENSIFIED.

MY CAR THE GAS SHOOTS OUT ,I HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL THIS WITH A NEW CAR MY ENGINE LIGHT BEEN ON FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT IT THIS CAR GAVE ME PROBLEMS EVERY TIME I BRING IT BACK THEY SAID JUST DROP IT OFF SO WE CAN TRY FIXING IT IT TAKE UP TO THREE DAYS ARE MORE PLUS THEY DON'T GIVE OUT LOANER CAR AT ALL SO HOW I SUPPOSE TO GET TO WORK SO I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT LIKE THAT.I DON'T KNOW WHY I BROUGHT THIS CAR. IT WASTED MY MONEY AND TIME.
THE AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING (AEB) AND FORWARD COLLISION WARNING (FCW) SYSTEMS ON MY VEHICLE NEVER ACTIVATE WHEN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS ARE OBVIOUS FOR THE AEB AND FCW TO ACTIVATE. EVEN HOME-SPUN SYSTEM TESTS DON'T SHOW THE SYSTEMS TO BE OPERATIONAL. THE LOCAL KIA DEALERSHIP AND REPAIR CENTER CANNOT VALIDATE THE SYSTEM'S INTEGRITY BECAUSE THEY CANNOT ACCOMPLISH DEFINITIVE TESTS TO VERIFY THE SYSTEM. THEY SAY "WE DON'T KNOW." THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MUST BE RESOLVED. THIS ISSUE IS ONGOING.
I WAS PARKING MY CAR YESTERDAY AT 7/11 AND THE CAR ACCELERATED ON IT'S OWN AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT PILLAR. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I HAVE SEEN A BLOG WHERE DOZENS OF FORTE OWNERS COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE, SOMETIMES MORE THAN ONCE. I WAS INJURED AND THE CAR NEEDS $9000 IN REPAIRS, ALSO I AM SURE MY INSURANCE WILL INCREASE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DUE TO THE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD, SHE WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE ROAD CLEARLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVERYTHING FROM THE DASHBOARD REFLECTED ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (GRIECO KIA OF DELRAY BEACH, 2255 S FEDERAL HWY, DELRAY BEACH, FL, 33483) WHO STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO THE WINDSHIELD. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED THE CONTACT A COVER FOR THE DASHBOARD, BUT THE COVER DID NOT FIT AND ALSO COVERED THE AIR BAGS. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 KIA FORTE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE JERKED RIGHT AND LEFT RANDOMLY. THE FAILURE PERSISTED WHILE DRIVING ON CURVY ROADS. THE DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 12402933. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,200.
THE VEHICLE IS THE S MODEL, NEW FOR 2017, I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 2,000 MILES SINCE LEASING IT IN SEPTEMBER 2016. THE CAR HAS POOR ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY GOING UP HILLS AND MERGING INTO TRAFFIC (MOVING, CITY). IT HESITATES AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS (FROM A DEAD STOP). THE VEHICLE TENDS TO SWAY SIDE TO SIDE FROM TIME TO TIME (MOVING, CITY), THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY AND HAS BEEN LOOKED AT BY TWO DIFFERENT KIA DEALERS. A TECHNICIAN HAS RODE ALONG WITH ME; FELT MY CONCERNS, BUT CANNOT DUPLICATE IT. I WAS TOLD IN MARCH 2017 THAT THE COMPUTER HAD BEEN "TWEAKED", BUT NO FURTHER INFORMATION.
MY 2017 KIA FORTE S HAS FORWARD COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM (FCWS) AND AUTONOMOUS EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM. THE FCWS DOES NOT WORK IN THAT IT DOES NOT WARN ME OF IMPENDING COLLISION HAZZARDS. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THE AEBS WORKS AS THE FCWS TRIGGERS THAT SYSTEM. KIA TECHS HAVE NOT SHOWN ME THAT IT WORKS; I.E. WARNING AUDIBLE NOR WARNING IMAGE ON LCD DISPLAY. I HAVE TRIED RUNNING UP ON A CAR IN FRONT OF ME UNTIL ABOUT 10 FEET BACK AT 50-60 MPH WITH NO WARNING THEN I MANUALLY APPLIED THE BRAKES.
VOLUME BUTTONS ON STEERING WHEEL VOLUME UP TURNS VOLUME DOWN, MUTE BUTTON TURNS VOLUME UP.
I HAVE HAD MY 2017 KIA FORTE FOR 3 MONTHS AND IN THE VEEY BEGINNING IT DROVE FINE. RECENTLY THE CAR HAS BECOME VERY SLUGGISH AND BECAME INCREASINGLY HARD TO ACCELERATE. I NOTICED IT BUT BRUSHED IT OFF. THIS PAST WEEKEND I LET SOMEONE DRIVE MY CAR AND THEY COMPLAINED ABOUT HOW HARD IT WAS TO ACCELERATE. THAT'S WHEN I KNEW THAT IT WASN'T JUST ME. TODAY, AS I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE AN UNPROTECTED LEFT TURN THE CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE LIKE IT SHOULD FROM A STOPPED POSITION AND I WAS CAUGHT IN THE INTERSECTION LONGER THAN I NEEDED TO BE. NEEDLESS TO SAY IT COULD HAVE ENDED BADLY. I THINK THIS PROBLEM NEEDS LOOKING INTO. I SHOULD NOT BE HOLDING UP TRAFFIC BECAUSE MY CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE LIKE IT SHOULD WHEN I AM FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY.
▸ Head gasket failure and engine overheating — EGR cooler failure is the leading cause of catastrophic engine failure on diesel engines
▸ Valve and piston damage — timing chain/belt failure causes immediate catastrophic engine damage at any speed
The blue line shows 299 total NHTSA complaints filed over 10 years, with the worst year being 2025 (43 complaints, including 3 crash reports).
The amber reliability line averaged 18/100 across the vehicle's life — dropping as low as 10 in 2018 when complaint severity peaked.
The red dashed line marks recall issuance — the first recall came 4 years after owners began filing complaints, a lag that indicates the manufacturer was slow to formally acknowledge these problems.
Red dots on the amber line flag 8 years (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
Nu (2.0L) and Gamma (1.6L) GDI engines share similar connecting rod bearing failure modes as the Theta II engine. Hyundai and Kia extended warranty coverage following additional NHTSA investigations.
