When driving vehicle, alert sounded lowered speed detection and my engine light came on. My vehicle then lagged power and it smelled like something was burning. Called dealer i bought vehicle from and i drove it in to them. I just bought the vehicle 8 months ago. I was just in to same dealer for a GPS tracker that was in my vehicle unknown to me that the Onstar stopped working and the dealer had stating they missed it in the pre certified inspection and they had to replace the telemax module do to the unknown GPS Tracker. My vehicle is now in for the lowered speed detection problem which my GM app stated it was an air induction system problem. I do not have paper work for the air induction system yet but i have sent photo of what my GM app produced.

My wife was driving down the road and all of a sudden the car just shut off and wouldn’t start back up. She called me and I went to her and tried to get the started with no progress so I called a tow truck to come pick it up and come to the mechanic shop to have it fixed. They run a diagnostic test on it and it was the fuel module. Called the gmc in my town and the said it was not covered under warranty or there wasn’t a recall on it either. W needed my car fixed so I called around to find a fuel module and finally found one in north Myrtle Beach. I had to go and pick it up around 75 miles from where I live and bought it back to the mechanic. He put in on and that fixed the problem. A lot of the 22 Terrian’s has a recall but mine doesn’t. I would like to know why mine doesn’t and it only has 53,000 miles and mine falls in the same category as all the others. I think I should be reimbursed having to pay to have mine repaired.

The car was at a red light so it automatically stopped. when the lights turned green, I removed my foot from the break and the car would not move. I had to call OnStar for roadside assistance and they called the police to make sure I was safe and that traffic flowed safely. My car was towed to the dealership after they tried to start the car by the key and my jumper cables. The car would not start. The dealership is unable to start the car as well and they are saying that the issue with the fuel pump is not under the most recent recall for my VIN number. I was able to locate the recall for the same exact issue that I’m having under my VIN number on the GMC website. I have filed a report with the GMC manufacturer to try and get this issue fixed. I have brought this car in multiple times to the dealership I purchased from and an additional dealership to show them the issues that I have been having with this car starting and stopping, I could have been ran over by a public transportation bus today.

My GMC Terrain started, but then stalled as I tried to pull away from the curb & drive. When I tried to restart it, it turned over but would not start. My AAA Autoclub servicemember used his "check engine" interface machine to determine that the fuel pump module was not communicating with the car, though there was half a tank of gas. This issue has been a well published problem with this year, make & model online, but GMC is not including my VIN# in the recall. I had the car towed to my mechanic & his diagnostic tests revealed the same problem - fuel system module. I would have been in danger if there had been any traffic on my residential street. If the car had driven a few blocks & then stalled, I would have been on a busy boulevard. There were no warning signs prior to the stall. There is a "check engine" icon lit up now because it is going to require service. My mechanic can't fix it, so I need to arrange another tow to get it to a dealership service department. Thank you

I went to start my vehicle up my two days ago (8-25-25) It made a horrible sound and just shut off. The lights on the dashboard would not go out when I turn it off. I also couldn't put in gear. It had to be towed using a dollie to the repair shop. I was told that the module fuel pump power control had to be replaced. The shop owner then went on to tell me that this very same brand (GMC), has been entering his shop at a shockingly alarming rate with this same problem. I'm not very pleased with having to have this repair done as my vehicle is no longer under warranty. It cost me $432.18. I'm not rich and am living in a time as many others are that don't have a bunch a money laying around to throw away. I find this very distressing as well as unfair to my family and I to have to have this replaced on a relatively newer vehicle. If you are aware of this problem, it out to be addressed. I as well as others should have been made aware as well. At the least, I think that I am entitled to a refund for the cost of the repairs.

The backup camera on my vehicle stopped working completely, displaying a blank screen. All other cameras and sensors continue to function normally. The dealership identified the issue as the camera having “shorted out” and is replacing it with a completely new unit. The faulty camera is currently with the dealership, and I assume it would be available for inspection upon request. It is being replaced and I will receive a bill in a few days (Wednesday March 10, 2025). The backup camera is a critical safety feature designed to prevent collisions with pedestrians, objects, and other vehicles when reversing. Without a functioning camera, visibility is significantly reduced, increasing the risk of an accident, especially in crowded parking lots or areas with low visibility. The sudden and unexplained failure of this system is a serious safety concern. Yes, the dealership confirmed the issue when I brought my vehicle in for inspection. They determined that the camera had “shorted out” and ordered a full replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, which is handling the replacement. To my knowledge, no manufacturer representatives, police, or insurance agents have examined the issue. There were no warning lights, error messages, or other indications before the failure. The backup camera was functioning normally, then suddenly stopped working, displaying a blank screen. I have heard that Cadillac and GMC Acadia models have experienced similar backup camera issues, leading to recalls due to sudden failures. Given that my vehicle’s camera “shorted out” without warning, I believe this may be part of a broader issue affecting GM vehicles. If this is a recurring problem, it poses a serious safety risk and should be investigated further.

My check engine light came on and I got it hooked up to get the code of P0171 - Upon checking it was different things like O2 sensor the Mass Airflow sensor, fuel pump issue etc. I have been having issues with slight hesitation during acceleration, some jerking when slowing down (not hitting the brakes). Now the check engine light was on for one day the next day it was off. I did some research and found an article that stated that GM is issuing a safety recall for 2021 and 2022 GMC terrain due to a problem with the fuel pump module failing, not enough fuel to the engine and creating stalling risk. This was from January of 2023. It also said GM notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the upcoming recall on Jan 19th 2023 and was still pending as of Feb 2023. Also stated that GM has not yet conducted actual repairs to correct the issue. My truck, I bought it brand new on Jan 20th 2022, only 23,450 miles on it. The problem literally came out of no where a week ago. The hesitation, not being able to accelerate is very dangerous when I'm on the road, I could not get the check engine light checked out professionally because the next day it was off and I was informed that they could not do a proper diagnostic if there is no light on. Obviously there is an issue with the fuel system and I really want this checked out and possibly replaced. Not to mention my gas is also going very fast now.

Fuel pump power control module failure. Part number 13554821. On [XXX], my trip home from South Carolina to Alabama was interrupted when I stopped to get something to eat. The car would not start and I had to call AAA to tow me to Superior GMC dealership in Anniston, Al. They knew what was wrong as soon as I told them it would not start. They already replaced three fuel pump control modules that day on the same model as mine. The service department said it was a persistent problem in GMC automobile's. I am [XXX] who had confidence enough in your automobile to take a trip by myself. I could have gotten stranded far away from home. I believe that this should be a recall because this is an ongoing issue with this model. I am sure that GMC is aware of this problem. The fuel indicator indicated that there were 34 miles to empty. The contact called Roadside Assistance, who added additional fuel. The fuel indicator showed 64 miles to empty; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.

While driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and would not accelerate. I was able to pull over onto the shoulder and turn the vehicle off. The engine would not turn over and the brake pedal locked into position, rendering the vehicle immobile. The check engine light also came on at this point. The vehicle was towed and ultimately repaired at the local GMC dealership, where the fuel pump was replaced. The 2022 GMC Terrain already has a recall in place due to the fuel pump module not providing sufficient fuel to the engine, resulting in an engine stall (23V013000), the effects of which sound very similar to what occurred. However, this vehicle’s VIN was not included in the recall. We are very lucky that this failure did not result in a crash, and that no further incident occurred while we were stranded on the side of the highway during the night, waiting for a tow.

A Service ESC error appeared on the dashboard. The T/C light came on as well. I drove it home. The error was gone the next time I started the vehicle. The service code kept coming on intermittently. Appointment scheduled on 11/10/23. GMC service dept stated they wouldn't be checking the vehicle until next Monday, so I could take it home. I rescheduled and took it back on 11/13/23. My vehicle was there for 32 days. While driving my 2022 1.5L Turbo GMC Terrain at 65 mph with the air temperature at -2 degrees below zero Fahrenheit the check engine light came on with the error message "Engine Power is reduced." I coasted to the side of the road and put the car into park. I was 200 miles from home and after working with my insurance roadside assistance, I wasn't able to get a tow truck after 3 hours of waiting in sub zero temperatures. I called the local GM dealership in my home town to ask if I could drive the SUV and they said I could at less than 35mph. I drove 100 miles to a town where a tow truck was available. I brought the SUV to the GM dealership and they said the issue is ice and condensation in the inner cooler CAC system. They said my SUV wasn't updated for the cold weather package. I was told my engine needed a cold weather package in order to drive it in sub zero temperatures. After reviewing this issue online, I found there was a recall for 2018-2022 1.5L Turbo GMC Terrain vehicles that experience these issues but my VIN number wasn't included in the recall. I called GMC to report the issue with my SUV and after speaking with multiple people was told that it wouldn't be covered under the recall due to the "numerous factors" that determine what VIN numbers fall into a recall. My SUV has the same engine, is the correct year, and has the same engine problem as the GMC Terrains that were included in the recall. I now have to pay out of pocket for repairs and the engine fix of installing a cold weather package that is covered under the recall. I believe the recall needs to be expanded to additional VIN numbers.

April of 2022 I purchased this car brand new. January of 2023 this car started to have a musty/mold smell. I took it into the dealership in late February and inquired if this was a reported problem. I did as they dealership said and replaced the cabin filter. The cabin filter was black at 9,700 miles. It smelled horrible. On April 6, 2023, I took my car into the dealership to resolve this smell. It was discovered that the the cowl inside the firewall on the drivers side firewall had several holes and an incorrectly applied seam. It was also discovered that the drivers side sunroof drain was also disconnected. This was was full of mold. They replaced the entire interior of my car which took until June 28th. I expressed I did not want this car back for fear of mold, I had already been sick and had no idea why. Once I got into a dealer car, I quit coughing. The dealership cannot guarantee me that they got all of the mold in the car, it still has an odor in it. I have went through the claims process with GM and they have refused to buy back my car, based on my claim I am worried about my health. This car had $12,000 in repairs to it. I was promised verbally by the District Manager of After Market Sales that my car would be bought back. They backed out on the deal and told me they cannot buy it back for destruction. I have great concerns about my cars safety with the mold being so large. They cannot guarantee me the mold is completely gone as told me to by the Service Manager. Therefore, this would include the safety of others that travel in my car, to include children and older adults. This problem started in manufacturing and was acknowledged by the dealership as such. It was a defective car when it arrived on the lot.

Vehicle started stalling back in February 2023, service engine light started coming on and then we started getting a message that the SD memory card had been removed and this message has stayed on constantly along with the service engine light. I made an appointment to get the recalls fixed with the dealership that we purchased it from which is 50 miles away but was told the parts for the fuel pump and child restraints were not available at that time. They looked at the memory sensor card but could not find anything wrong and was told if the error message came back up to call them back, I know more got home and the message came back up so I called them back and they set me up with another appointment the following week. This time because the message only comes up randomly and it did not come up while I was there I was told nothing could be done but to call back when the message comes back and as soon as I got home it came up so I called them back, they made another appointment for the following week and this time the message came on when the tech drove it so they took out the sensor card and cleaned it and everything around it and said everything looks fine now but it still comes on, but was told due to them not having the parts for the fuel pump that we should take it to our closest dealership. On 6/15/2023 we took it to our local dealership and I was told they would need to order parts and the eta on it was 4 days out, they said they would call me when the parts came in, I waited until 6/22/23 and no one ever called me back so I called to check and the parts were still not in but would check on it and call me back, no one ever called and I still have not heard from anyone. The last time we took it up there the vehicle stalled, we almost got hit from behind and it kept dying and would barely start, it is now setting under my carport, we are afraid to drive it and I still have not heard from anyone. This all started in February 2023 and it is June now.

The infotainment center has a tendency to freeze upon starting the car. Subsequently, when the car is put in reverse the back up camera will remain on for several minutes after putting the car back into drive causing a distraction to the driver. The freezing of the infotainment screen will often stay frozen even after turning the car off. When the car is off and the door is closed and locked, the screen stays on and music stays blasting, unable to turn the music down or off even though the car is off and locked with no one inside. The screen has stayed on for over an hour and upon returning to the vehicle, the car took several tries to start. I can only assume that the freezing is beginning to cause the battery to drain. This is causing a safety concern as loud blaring music is distracting and the possibility of being stranded without being able to start my car is a scary thought. This problem has been occurring since I purchased the car and has not been able to be reproduced by the dealer as it only happens randomly a few times a month.

Leased a 2002 GMC Terrain/Denali on 12/30/2022. 34 miles on car. Loved driving it. I have put on additional 210 miles. On 01/20/2023 after dropping a 'CT' disc at my Oncologist I got back in car and was driving home. Still love my car. In doctor's parking lot the 'Parking' light would not go out when put in reverse. Same issue two times until I went into drive and car moved a bit. Then reverse, all ok. At stop light just beyond MD office I turned left. Initially I crossed intersection (yellow engine light went on) and gave gas pedal a push to go 45 MPH (legal speed on a 2 lane West bound). Two lanes on opposite side head East. All of the sudden foot still on gas speed drops to 25 MPH but Tachometer now reads 4000! Scared looking rear view mirror and 3-4 cars behind close to my bumper now and before slowing down hit their bakes. I being panicked took foot of gas and tried to go slowly forward again to get out of way. Same issue with 25 MPH only and now tachometer reading between 3500-4000. Really panicked as those 45 MPH (or more) cars slammed on their brakes. Were not so nice, but of course! Now went to side of road and stopped. Waited a couple of minutes started again but went no more than 25 MPH with a burning smell. Got to a parking lot and hit 'SOS'. 2 sets of 2 hours each no tow arrived. Talked to 'SOS' a number of times. Finally called wife she behind me with flashers and me with flashers drove home. No more than 20-25 MPH. Tow arrived and driver could not get car in reverse so pushed into street in our complex. Finally pushed enough to use winch to get car aboard. Took to dealer in FT Lauderdale (Sheehan) been there one week today and thy called at 5:00PM car finished. Admits transmission problem. Me what could I do? Dealer says to pick car up. One week for repair of this brand new car? My wife is petrified as to what happened. Doesn't want to take a chance to ride in it. Scary ride that day for certain. This all seems so one sided to me. That hurts.

The blue line shows 69 total NHTSA complaints filed over 5 years, with the worst year being 2025 (28 complaints).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 30/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

The recall (red dashed line) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.
