Deferred Failure Risk

Components and defects approaching or past their known service milestones

70/100
Critical Deferred Risk
Critical deferred failure risk — 4 safety-critical or high-cost components are past their service interval. Without immediate attention, repair costs will compound significantly.
No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~108,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
DUE SOONCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~108,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Timing Chain Tensioner service before 120,000 mi
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
EST. OVERDUECriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 8 yr · Vehicle age: 9 yr · Past due by age
Service Water Pump immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 8 yr interval
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 9 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighDifferential / Transfer Case Fluid
Service interval: 4 yr · Vehicle age: 9 yr · Past due by age
Service Differential / Transfer Case Fluid immediately — already past the 50,000 mi / 4 yr interval
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 9 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
EST. OVERDUEModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Service interval: 8 yr · Vehicle age: 9 yr · Past due by age
Service Spark Plugs (iridium/platinum) immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 8 yr interval
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
DUE SOONModerateFuel Injectors
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~108,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Fuel Injectors service before 120,000 mi
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

This is the 2nd failure of the thermostat. We had the car towed to the same Chrysler dealer that fixed the first incident. We have an extended warranty that covered the first failure. This second failure is not covered due to the failed part is a mopar part and Chrysler is going to pay for everything, trouble is they have had my wife’s car for two weeks already and the part isn’t coming in until February 17, I am a 34 year retired Chrysler employee. The dealer doesn’t offer rentals, and my extended warranty people offer rentals at $35 a day and only one week. Nowhere rents cars at that price. We have no choice but to wait on that part, but I am wondering how many chrysler products have had this problem, should be investigated for recall.

Center console with touch screen delaminating screen cover causing random and continuous malfunctions to navigation, heating/cooling climate controls, media (radio, hands-free telephone, and numerous uconnect software applications), and rear backup camera function. Potential for serious distraction and loss of multiple safety components like change lane warning systems, anti swerve technology, etc.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that the infotainment system screen had delaminated, causing the screen touch pad to engage vehicle functions independently while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the infotainment system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,233.

ODI #11603073ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The control screen in the front center of the vehicle is not working. Backup camera, radio, AC/heat, Blutooth, navigation, nothing works and the screen will black out. It is a safety hazard driving as the screen will click and make loud noises.

ODI #11598373ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The uconnect 8.4 radio navigation can't find a satellite to operate properly. Also the screen is delaminating and making it so selected buttons don't work. Since this is an information and entertainment system that controls everything, including radio, navigation, and hand-free phoning, temperature of the seating, it causes a huge distraction while driving. And the gps not working causes location problems. I believe this also is how the company can find the vehicle if lost. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership and they can do an update but also state that the this could cause the entire system might not work at all afterwards. Not guarantee that this won't cause more harm than good. As many of these systems that have this problem, there should be a recall to fix this.

ODI #11592015UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The vehicle's LCD screen has become delaminated which causes the control of the radio, air conditioning, navigation, and other features controlled by the "radio" portion of the car to become dysfunctional. The car will randomly beep, change air temperatures, start navigation, cause the loss of hands-free communication. This is a safety hazard as it causes the driver to be distracted in order to attend to the incessant beeping and issues related to AC/heat, navigation or radio (volume, etc.). This appears from Chrysler Forums to be an issue among a large group of Chrysler 300 Year Model 2018 owners. I am encouraging them to file a concern with your group and to ask for a recall of the car for this reason.

ODI #11576309ENGINE

The oil cooler is plastic why when it holds oil and when it heats up that makes plastic expand then cools and makes it decompress. This is done over and over again, of coarse this will cause a major repair job. That the owner should not have to expense out of pocket because we did not design the car. Also this defect is not aware until you years into owning the vehicle. This is crazy and we need a recall. I was at Firestone getting alignment and was told i have a issuse brewing.

ODI #11574617STEERING

The steering alert when off, The steering locked up in mid drive on interstate on several occasions. We took to dealer and to Haigler Automotive and no one could find out why the power steering locked up. The code only reads communication error. We have paid $2000. For diagnostic and repairs that they thought was related but it still losing communication to the car. We have less than 88000 miles on auto. We have owned the auto for three years. My UConnect system periodically goes berserk and the radio changes from FM to AM, flashing on the screen between the radio and navigation system. Bluetooth won't work. My heat control settings do what they want. My backup camera sometimes stays on. The whole system sometimes shuts down than comes back on. The back up camera issue started about a year ago and is sporadic. The radio/navigation/heating issues just started about a month ago. This too is sporadic. I never know when it is going to happen. It is extremely distracting!!!! I can take the vehicle to the local dealer for inspection upon request. I will actually need to call to get this fixed, but I am hoping to receive a recall as I have read that there is/was a class action lawsuit for UConnect problems. These issues just happen right out of the blue, there is no warning of any kind. Needless to say I am not happy!

This is a known issue since 2015. Class action lawsuits have been filed. This is a huge safety hazard and a recall should be done. This is going to cause many crashes!

ODI #11485932UNKNOWN OR OTHER

My 2017 Chrysler 300s has a screen that is delaminating which started about a year ago and now it's causing horrible issues. Just the other day on a trip home, I had my car play going and all of a sudden the screen was just clicking on icons randomly everywhere. And then it started making calls to both my son and daughter. There was nothing I could do as I was driving home on the freeway. When I got to my garage it took sometime for me to get it to stop. Even after I turned off the car and turned it back on it kept clicking on the icons. And then today it kept switching the radio stations as well as switching from FM to SIRRUS radio. This is a safety hazard as you become distracted by what is happening. I have not taken it in to a dealer and there is no warning when the screen will start doing whatever it wants. This is not a new problem for this model and beyond.

THE SCREEN ON THE VEHICLE IS SEPARATING FROM THE BACK SIDE OF THE SCREEN CREATING A STREAKING EFFECT THAT WILL AUTOMATICALLY PUSH BUTTONS WHILE DRIVING OR TURN THE RADIO ON AND OFF. THIS IS THE MAIN SYSTEM FOR THE CAR CONTROLS AND CAN CAUSE DRIVER SAFETY ISSUES.

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 82 total NHTSA complaints filed over 10 years, with the worst year being 2021 (18 complaints, including 1 crash report).

The amber reliability line averaged 94/100 across the vehicle's life — relatively stable, with the lowest point of 86/100 in 2026.

Notably, despite 82 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.

Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2021, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
