Due to General Motors AFM lifter defect and oil consumption issues that have been proven faulty, #4 AFM gave out on us in February of 2026 costing us approximately 5,000 in Engine repairs on our 2013 Chevrolet Silverado plus several tow bills and the inconvenience of not having a vehicle for weeks. GM Recently lost a class action lawsuit for this issue that they have failed to fix but the lawsuit didnt pay enough to fix the issues. GM knew about the oil consumption issues and lifter failures with these vehicles since 2007 and didnt do anything. To this day, there are still issues including on new vehicles.

No warning lights were illuminated. The contact was adding engine oil every 3,000 miles. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact was informed by the dealer that the oil consumption was normal due to the mileage on the vehicle. A year prior to the failure, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the steering wheel while turning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The truck lost power, starred sputtering and misfiring. I shut the engine down, restarted and was able to drive it home. This same issue occurred a couple more times but each time it was restarted it drove okay. I started doing research and found a history of this same issue being reported by other owners and upon complaining to GM, nothing was done. I stopped driving the truck and it has been sitting for 3 years now. On April 22 2024 I had the truck towed to Stingray Chevrolet to have the issue checked. I was informed that the engine was would need to be replaced at a cost estimated to be 18K. I had the truck towed back to my home and it has been sitting, until I decide what I am going to do. I have continued investigating and I have found where GM acknowledged there were engine issues that dated back from 2013/2014 more than 10 years where the same problems were reported. Several law suits were found to have been filed with some wins and some losses including class action suits. I wrote GM and asked them to step up, do the right thing and replace the engine. They refused naturally so I have been waiting, contemplating my actions but the fact still remains. GM built and sold defective engines back into the early 2000's and replaced these 5.3L V8's with another engine that there are still defects being reported. I would like for GM to fully replace the engine including all components and Auxiliary devices on my truck, at no cost to me. Give it another 100K mile guarantee and compensate me for the 3 years I have not been able to use my truck.

Front end, yes it is available for inspection upon my request. My safety wasn’t very safe the truck felt like the front wheels and back wheels were going to come out from underneath me. The frame is completely rusted My mechanic said it is paper thin and is in danger of falling GM is not offering to fix this even though it is a TSB It is very dangerous to drive

I was sold a vehicle by a dealership with a completely unsafe frame. The frame is very rotted and has multiple holes and as well as a split open portion on the drivers side that extends down most of the frame. This issue was undisclosed by the dealer. There was also a discovery of rotted suspension components making the vehicle extremely dangerous to myself and others. Another undisclosed issue would be that this vehicles engine does not match the vin number.
Driving down the road and motor died, like when you run out of gas. Would not restart. Had it towed. Engine had to be rebuilt, cost over 5k. Was told by a mechanic who makes a living rebuilding 5.3 motors that motors with active fuel mgmt. and displacement on demand will fail unless your lucky. Valve springs bad, push rods bent, lifters, oil pump, exhaust and intake valves, VVT delete kit, DOD cam, etc….. I researched this problem and it is common and videos all over the internet. Chevy has known this for over 15 years yet still sells these and no recalls. I will NEVER BUY A CHEVY AS LONG AS I LIVE AND I TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THIS. Lucky I was on a country road or it would have been disaster if I was on the freeway. This caused me MAJOR HARDSHIP with my wife disabled and us both seniors, having to spend money we didn’t have.
Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to register the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. 2013 Silverado has sustained extensive corrosion damage to frame making vehicle unusable. Obviously, extremely widespread problem that GM has acknowledged was caused by improperly treated frames in a technical service bulletin but no recall has been forced upon them like was done to Toyota years ago for the exact same malfeasance. The truck was always cared for. Severe safety hazard being caused by GM’s poor choices.
The frame on my truck will not pass inspection do to the frame being unsafe to operate. Gm knows about their failing frames but won’t acknowledge. Like decorating my frame will repair the the missing metal on my frame
FRAME RUST THROUGH
Rear wheels lock up while driving. This happened several times and to get it to move again I had to unplug battery for 10 mins. This happened while driving at all speeds and it is so unsafe to drive that I do not feel comfortable driving the vehicle for my safety and the safety of others. I had it towed to the dealership, and they said transmission needed to be replaced and it was not under warranty. I called GM and they told me they could not help and to hire an attorney over some class action lawsuit. I just want my truck fixed!
10s of thousands of these vehicles have the frame rotted thru and crack in the same location. it is unheard of that a frame would rot long before the body panels of the vehicle creating a nationwide road hazard.
2013 Silverado LT 100k miles can't inspect due to frame rot state doesn't allow frame repairing keeps saying to repair the frame. I'm in a northern state with a failed frame costing. I just purchased this vehicle for 11,500 it's worth 15k until the company's negligence to fix the frame issues. Frame swap is upwards of 10k. If the frames were properly coated they wouldn't rot. Also warranty states if you use aftermarket undercoating the warranty is void. I haul a trailer for a living to have a truck with frame rot is unsafe but I have no options. Gpm needs to starts fixing this I've seen 2018s in the junk yard for this reason

Just bought this truck 6 months ago and found out frame is rotted out. After further research it seems this is a very common issue and may be alot of these trucks on the road with people also not knowing this issue. 100% safety issue!
Main frame rails have rusted completely through on both sides. Inside by fuel tank. Many other GM owners have reported this issue online. Truck only has 136k and will not pass inspection. Known defect for the factory undercoating was dealer fixed three times prior to the 6 year warranty being expired. It was noted and fixed on the date of purchase in 2013.

Rocker arm on left (as you are facing engine from outside vehicle) back rear left is making a cherping noise when engine gets warmed up. Dealership & 2 separate mechanics say the cam shaft and lifters need replaced, or the whole engine should be replaced. Vehicle has 162500 miles on it. Noise started about a week after my last oil change on 6/11/24.
Due to a failure to properly prepare the frame (GM Service Bulletin 19-NA-255), the frame of my 2013 Chevrolet Silverado has rusted and cracked due to the extensive rusting. I was made aware of this issue by my mechanic while repairing another unrelated issue. Had I not taken my vehicle in for service, I may not have been made aware and the damage could have gotten detrimental to safely operate. My vehicle only has 122,109 miles on it. This rusting jeopardizes the entire structure of my vehicle and all of the components attached to the frame. GM is aware that this is an issue for model years 2011-2024 and has yet to recall the vehicles to remedy the problem.

Frame rusted just about in to !!!!!
I’m not completely aware of the issue but at about 68,000 miles my GM LC9 engine has started ticking. I know GM has been sued in the past for the failure of LC9 engine and wondered if I need to join the lawsuit or if there will be a recall issued?
108k miles and complete frame rusted to the point of not being road safe
On [XXX] pursuant to an appointment, I arrived at Riverside Chevrolet Buick GMC located at 100 Hwy 411 E in Rome Ga 30161 @ [XXX], to have the recalled Takata airbag replaced in our Chevrolet Silverado 1500. At that time, the Dealer failed and refused to replace the defective airbag, without giving a sufficient reason, and I left the dealership. The frame of my 2013 Silverado has rusted through and the car is no longer safe to drive. It has 94K miles and is otherwise in perfect condition. Last year I had the cross members of the frame replaced because they were totally rotted through. My truck was the 24th Chevy that Amherst Welding had repaired that year. I traded my 2000 Silverado in 2013 to buy my current truck, and the frame on the 2000, was totally sound, and had a lot of life left in it at over 1000K. Toyota replaced the Rusting frames on their trucks, and so should Chevy. I could provide photos if necessary ... I saw the rotted frame when the truck was on a lift.
An independent service center noted the integrity of my frame is compromised due to severe rust. The rear passenger side area of the frame near the gas tank is falling off and holes can be poked thru it. My safety is put at risk if I were to get in an accident or even minor collision. Potential for parts to abruptly break due to the rust/corrosion. No warning lamps or messages have appeared.

2013 Chevy Silverado undercoated every year since new..(2 owners)... and the frame is rotted. This is disgusting!!! There is a technical service bulletin for frame rust/ rot but not a full recall. The frame on my truck rusted through. 52519 miles. There is no rust anywhere else on the truck. The frame could break causing an accident. Frame has been inspected by 2 different body shops. My frame has been repaired by a qualified repair shop. Needed to be replaced but was told by GM there are no new frames for this truck. Could not find a good used one either. My rusty frame was discovered by a technician at Discount Tire when having a tire rotation. As of [XXX] I had no idea the frame was rusted through. I took my 2013 Silverado to my local mechanic for an airconditioning repair. While the mechanic was checking the undercarriage he discovered the frame had cracked due to corrosion on the passenger side just behind the cab. My truck has 144k miles and I am apalled that this has happened so soon. This level of corrosion seems very advanced for a 11 year old truck with below average mileage.

In June 2023 I was doing some minor work and inspection on my 2013 Silverado, while under the truck looking for possible issues before taking a trip to Colorado I noticed the frame had a hole in it, after further inspection of the complete frame and undercarriage I found holes all throughout the frame and also cracks in 2 locations. The truck had 85k, the body is solid, and in great condition, kept in a heated garage. In June I went to a Chevrolet dealer to have an air bag recall repair done, at that time the mechanic did a complete inspection of the undercarriage and never mentioned the safety issue with the rusting frame. I decided to go back to the dealer to question a possible frame recall, in my discussion with 3 service writers they assured me there was no recalls or safety bulletins regarding this. Being highly upset about the frame I started looking for possible issues on the frame. I found hundreds of complaints regarding rusting frames and safety incidents, and a service bulletin that came out in 2014 which has been revised to cover up to 2019 Silverados. This bulletin stated the wax protection to prevent the frame from rusting was pealing off and should be repaired, the dealers were cleaning and sealing the rust locations as the bulletin stated. My complaint is, I never received a notice of the bulletin from GM. If I did I could have tried to take precautions to help prevent the rust from spreading. The Chevy dealership said there was never any frame bulletin or recall. Now my truck is not reliable and definitely not safe! The body and mechanical parts are in great shape. It’s unbelievable that a $40,000 vehicle is unsafe to drive, 10 years old, 85k miles and now worth nothing due to the bad frame. Not sure, but if you have read some of these experiences with other owners, I think you would not want any of these on the road. GM should be held accountable for knowing the frames are failing do to a sealer that wouldn’t stay on the frames.
The frame has completely rotted through and the truck is not driveable as the mechanic has said the frame is likely to crack and that there is severe frame deterioration near the fuel tank putting it at risk of catching fire.
The frame has completely rusted out and the vehicle is no longer roadworthy. Mechanic was shocked it didn’t snap while on the road. Only has 113k miles. Apparently this is a known major issue with these vehicles and costing owners thousands of dollars due to incorrect manufacturing of the frames. Please hold the manufacturer accountable for this defect before someone does get hurt.
My dashboard is cracking and I am concerned that it may be dangerous during a collision if the the airbag deploys and creates a shrapnel situation.
Purchased the Silverado 1500 new in 2013 and was going be my last truck before I retired. Had the truck under coated/rust proofed after the purchase and had it touched up yearly. Went to have it touched up again in 2020 and the shop said they would not do it because the frame was rotting from the inside out. They said it was a GM flaw in there rust proofing system for their truck frames. I also talked to Ziebart about this and they said the same thing. Zeibart will not under coat any GM truck from 2006 to 2018 because they have seen too many frames rotting out. I only have 70,000 miles on the truck and this is totally UNACCEPTABLE. From what I have seen on the internet it also includes GM's mid sized trucks, Canyon and Colorado. I have read stories of owners having vehicle cracks rendering the vehicle dangerous. Right now there are alot of unhappy GM truck owners that are looking for a class action suit. When trucks where built right it was the bodies that rusted out and not the frames. Pictures included. My 2013 Chevy Silverado's frame is rotten and cracked on both sides to the point where it may be unrepairable. I originally pulled the bed and dropped the fuel tank due to a broken cross member. That is when I found that all three cross members under the bed were completely rotten out and both the main frame rails were cracked. The driver side has a crack over 6 feet long and has began rotting at the crack. The passenger has a crack about 3 foot long. It is clear that the crack on the driver side has been there for years while the dealership continued to inspect the truck. I have driven this truck over 20,000 miles from coast to coast this year and the body is rot free. This broken frame could have caused a catastrophic accident had it let loose on the interstate. I have done my research and found hundreds, possibly thousands of individuals on different forums and other websites that have similar experiences. And in fact was told by a salesperson at the local dealership that they continue to see these same issues in the 2019 and even 2020 models. This is horrible, Chevrolet knows they have a problem and has not taken any recourse to fix the problem. My truck is currently sitting in my driveway with the bed and gas tank removed and the frame is able to be easily inspected.

The service tech told me the frames on this model traps water. I was referred to another garage for a possible repair. This truck is ten years old with 120k miles on it. It has always been service at a Chevy dealership. I am filing this complaint because GM refuses to do anything about a problem they caused. If this vehicle or others like are involved in collisions this defect can cause serious injury or death. How many vehicles are on the highways operating in this condition? How many are running around in states where they do not conduct safety inspections? Please help!

When driving sometimes, the ABS light is illuminated along with the traction control and Stabilitrak lights. The DIC says Service Traction Control and Stabilitrak. This issue needs to be fixed immediately as this is a safety issue.

Frame is extremely rusted. Integrity of the frame is compromised making vehicle unsafe to drive. Vehicle is available for inspection. If the frame breaks, I and others involved in the possible resulting crash would be injured and/or killed. The independent service center inspected the frame and confirmed the damage due to the manufacturing defect. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer that sold me the vehicle: Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet, 833-699-0792, 3900 West Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43228, before they sold it to me and they claimed it passed their thorough inspection. I purchased the truck on 6/28/21, 28 months ago, and have driven it 7,044 miles. The truck has been driven 92,971 total miles. The frame should not be rusted to the extent it is now and should not have passed the dealer inspection until it was repaired. The rusted frame IS the warning prior to the failure and the rust first appeared years ago on this truck and on many other Chevrolet and GM trucks. General Motors and Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet likely know about this frame defect and should be made responsible to fix it or refund the $20,000 I paid for the truck or other agreed upon compensation.

Throughout this truck's lifespan, it's had multiple problems with the engine and fuel system. Around 70k miles, the engine had to be completely rebuilt because of the issues with oil consumption; well known GM 5.3 liter V8 issue. The oil consumption issue then started back up around 140k miles. Once the vehicle hit 100k miles, it started throwing codes for running to lean and too rich, plus it showed the alcohol (ethanol) content at 40%. I've never used E85/20/15/10, but did use 3.5% blended fuel for the first 100K miles. Since then I've switched to 91 premium which does not contain ethanol. However, me readings continue to be over 40% ethanol. All physical parts of the system, that could lead to this issue have been replaced. Recently, my mechanic happened upon Bulletin PIP4792D, which speaks directly to the issue I among countless others are having. In contacting my local dealership and GM, both declined to help unless I paid to have them correct the software issue that is causing this problem. It seems strange to me that a company would expect a consumer to pay for an update to software, when the company is the one who is the cause for the software being bad.

2013 silverado was in for a fuel leak, which turned out to be a rusted out fuel pump and gas line. However the mechanic found that the frame on either side of the gas tank was severely rusted and recomended to NOT do the repair because the truck was now worthless and would not pass a safety inspection. The truck has only 53500 miles and has been frequently washed underneath and stored mostly inside. A frame repair shop can weld a steel cap over the frame in the affected areas at a cost of over $2000. Seems like GM should bear some responsibility for such poor quality.

We put our truck into a dealership recall for passenger airbag. Next day while driving truck started to buck in middle of traffic had to pull over. No reverse or forward. Waited and then the problem left. Truck is not repaired brought it to a transmission shop has Converter damage.

On my 2013 Chevy Silverado with only 70000 miles I noticed a clunk noise when driving. After bringing it to the dealer I was told the frame was rusted beyond repair. It is not safe to drive at this point. The frame was treated with a wax coating by GM that basically covered the rust for years. It was only till now the wax coating is flaking off exposing holes in the frame. The rear shock mount is barely hanging on to the cross support which is crumbling away. After doing some research I found others silverado owners are experiencing the same thing. I was told by the dealer that it would cost $7000 to put a new frame on. They also told me GM doesn't make that frame anymore and they can't even find any salvage frames. I was planning on towing my travel trailer for many camping trips this year. I can't even imagine what might have happened if I'd never heard the clunk and took it out on the highway. I suspect there are numerous other drivers on the road that don't realize they have the same issue. How a 10 year old vehicle with only 70000 miles on it can have such a rusted out frame is beyond me. This is a junk frame rusted so bad it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Frame of truck is completely rusted out, truck has only 88,000 miles. The body of the truck is in perfect condition with no rust but the frame is shot! This will be over 4,500 dollars to repair, this seems to be a common issue in the Chevy and GMC trucks. I did see on a web site GM had issues on application of a wax sealer on the frames that was thought to be discoverd in 2020. On two occasions the vehicle has been parked in our drive way and has rolled away approximately 15 ft until being stopping at a snowbank. There have been no warning lights that would indicate an issue prior to this happening. Searching open recalls, I found that although my specific VIN is not affected by a safety recall, there is a recall for this issue on other 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. I believe my vehicle should be included in this recall. If this were to have happened in another location, it could have resulted in a crash and major damage to bystanders or other vehicles.

My truck frame has rusted completely through. I have holes in my truck frame. I also have my rear shocks have broke free from my frame. I went back to the dealer the first week i had the truck to have my bed liner installed. At this time i pointed the rust and undercoating that was falling off. The told me they would take care of the problem. I assumed they would, my mistake. I had to go back 2 other times for warranty work on my drive train. Both times I complained about the rust. Each time I returned it was getting exponentially worse. Both times they told me Chevrolet would do nothing about it. That the rust was "normal" Now I have a truck that is not even 10 years old with my frame falling apart.
The vehicle is unsafe to operate around pedestrians and other roadside objects because of the poor visibility, especially at critical moments where visual confirmation is needed like crosswalks, intersections, and parking lots. The A pillars, side mirrors, and tall front profile, block the driver from visually confirming hazards and pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections. While driving, I made a right hand turn and attempted to park roadside. The vehicle was blocking my view of cement barriers placed in the parking space before mine, and the vehicle collided with the barriers. Also, many times I have had to stop just after entering an intersection to keep from hitting a pedestrian, because the vehicle blocked my view.
I bought a 2013 silverado truck with 30,000 miles. I paid $30,000. A year and half later the engine blew. It was 3 months after warranty and I had to pay $8000 to replace. 2 yrs later I heard a very disturbing noise. Mechanic assess and said frame is rusted through. Tubing, gas tank following off. Suspension so rusted it was a miracle it didn’t just fall apart. I again bring it to Chevy (now a 3rd owner in 5yrs) and they tell me they will give me $1000. I still own almost $6000 on the loan due to the engine. There are major issues with this truck. The wax coating they used and poor steel excelled the rust at a rapid pace. If you recoated this with rust resistive spray it would void all warranties. I am now 5 years in with a blown engine and rusted through frame. Chevy has no other solution except to add my balance of that truck into a new loan and buy another. They knew this issue and had multiple opportunities to fix and /or notify. The engine also has class action in a few states because if faulty oil consumption doing damage and blowing engines. There should be some major recalls. I see hundreds upon hundred of people complaining of the same thing. Now I’m out a truck with no value. Cannot work etc. Very financially devastating. GM is incredibly dishonest and knowingly selling defective trucks.

I was told from a mechanic that the header where my spark plugs go is wrapped do to the manufacturer and is causing the spark plugs to misfire. The truck has died at a stop, is causing the truck to run horrible. I am sorry if I am not explaining it all properly. My dad bought this truck brand new in 2013 and he passed away in 2015 and I paid of the car so I could have the memory. So I have had it and been in the truck pretty much off the lot. its has only 95 thousand miles and has had this issue always, but I was always told problems with spark plugs and coils until now. please help
at least once a month gives a false trailer braking error and the truck brakes itself, dash dies, driver loses control over the vehicle. It is a risk of crashing or being hit because the truck stops itself in the middle of driving without brake lights coming on to alert other drivers. No way to overcome this - can't hit the gas pedal, etc. It seems to think that you are hauling a trailer and it thinks the trailer is swaying... problem is this truck has never towed a trailer even one time... it's completely false. But also very dangerous.

I experienced a failure of the BOSCH 4.2 fuel rail pump while driving on Interstate 65 North near Louisville KY at night and my truck had a dead pedal and was unable to accelerate any and I was in the right lane going over a bridge and two tractor trailers were in each lane behind me and having been on the bridge I was unable to leave the lane of travel until I had completely transversed the bridge I was traveling over. I did engage my emergency flashers immediately but having the trucks side by side and the truck in my lane traveling at highway speeds I was almost struck from behind as the tractor trailer applied his brakes and was able to avoid the collision luckily. I took my truck to the local dealership and was told what the issue was and I had it fixed immediately. The price of the repair was $10,362.64 give or take a few dollars. I had a warranty but that company refused to pay since it's not considered part of the engine. Dodge has issued a Recall for the exact same part as far as I am understanding but yet Chevrolet/GMC has not. Active fuel management caused my 5.3 liter v8 valve train to fail and lost compression in a few cylinders.had to replace complete motor at 120,000 miles.at mechanics now getting a new non afm jasper engine to the tune of 8000 dollars.even with impeccable maintenance.myself being the only owner.
The parking pin in my parking shifter broke I had no idea that it did, lucky me I was in a parking lot but my truck just started rolling found out it was a pin that keeps it park broke.
I ow n a 2013 Silverado that I purchased new. I received a recall notice February 2021 which I believe is the second one. I have not been contacted and when I call Chevrolet customer assistance center, my calls are dropped after putting on hold. How long is this to take ? I don't feel safe when I have a passenger with me.

I was notified of the air bag recall in February 2021. To date, I have not heard anything from anyone about replacement of the passenger-side airbag. When I check the recall on line I see that the "remedy is not available". How long do I need to wait to get this resolved?

Dash in my truck has experienced substantial cracking. I understand that lawsuit filed by owners for factory / dealer replacement was dismissed, I believe the materials used in manufacture of this item is substandard and should be replaced at no cost the owners of these vehicles. I have also been informed that replacement parts purchased at Chevrolet have also failed.

My 2013 Chevrolet Silverado frame broke when I was driving it down my road with my small kids in tow. When I got home and inspected I noticed my spare tire was not secure and corrosion in the rear of my frame. I had the frame inspected by my dealership and it was confirmed the frame was defective, severely corroded in the mid and rear section. The front was in almost new condition. The stickers still intact. They suggested I contact GM. There were no warning lamps. GM has committed to repairing the vehicle due to the wax coating defect. Now they are not cooperating due to no availability of frame. I have not had a vehicle for almost 5 months. Had I been driving at a high rate of speed when the frame broke or someone hit me there could have been an entirely different outcome as the frame has no integrity. The truck would have crumpled. There are many trucks left on the road with this HAZARDOUS issue. Please see attached photos of well cared for truck and defective frame.

The service stabilitrak/traction control come on (ABS) at random times when driving. The truck begins to shift hard and lose power as I am driving making it very dangerous on the road especially at close proximity to other vehicles. I have taken it in and nothing can be found or done because they can't seem to find the problem. The truck has 73,000 miles on it. I am beyond frustrated and scared to drive it on the freeway because I never know when it will come up; it has been happening once a week (sometimes two) since June 2021. I just don't understand how GM allows this to happen and not fix the problem; it is clearly a danger on the road for myself, family, and others. Please look into this as I have read so many situations of other owners of GM models dealing with this disaster!
bought this truck from Granger DCJR in Orange, tx on 7/20/21. upon further inspection of vehicle on 7/25/21 found that there are no bushings in the rear shocks and that when you steer the truck at low speeds from a stop sign the rack and pinion locks up and you can not steer the truck. the steering issue almost caused me to hit 3 cars and almost run in a ditch. dealer states that they have spent to much money on this truck and refuses to do the repairs. now im stuck with a truck that cant be driven. also this truck supposedly passed a 172 point inspection but i dont see how with these issues.
The manufacturer has known about the problem with the passenger air bag for years and waited until February 2021to issue a recall. When the manufacturer was asked on 7-22-2021 when this problem would be fixed they responded that they do not have a remedy for the problem. It seems to me that they are dragging tier feet in the hope that the problem will fix itself through attrition of the affected vehicles. unless the government pressures the manufacturer by the use of fines or sanctions, they don't have any real reason to fix this problem in a timely manner.

Airbag was repaired under Takata recall on 6/15/21, 24,122 miles on vehicle. Service airbag warning comes on the next day. Back to dealer and they said warning light is not related to what they did and just a coincidence. Hard to believe. Are there any other complaints of this happening ? Thanks

I WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK IT STARTED SHAKING, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THAT THERE IS CARBON BUILD UP ON THE ENGINE. THERE IS ONLY SIXTY THOUSAND MILES ON THE VEHICLE. GMC SENT OUT A BULLETIN TO DEALERS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED THE SERVICE DEPT FLUSH THE ENGINE, BUT THEY CAN NOT PROMISE ANYTHING. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT I DID NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK ENOUGH, SO THAT'S WHAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS A VERY CLEAN RUNNING TRUCK, NOT AS MUCH POLLUTION. SO INSTEAD OF THE CARBON BLOWING OUT THE TAILPIPE IS IT STAYING IN THE ENGINE? I DO NOT THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT ALL THIS MONEY FOR SOMETHING GMC OVER LOOKED. TRUCK WAS PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED IN JUNE 2017, IN JUNE 2018 PROBLEMS AROSE INCLUDING ROUGH IDLING, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ACTIVATION, AND STABILITRAK OFF MESSAGE ACTIVATION ON THE DASH READOUT. GENERAL MOTORS (GM) TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) #10-06-01-008M WAS ISSUED DECEMBER, 2014 TO ADDRESS THE REPAIR FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE ISSUE WAS MOTOR OIL REACHING THE #1 AND #7 CYLINDERS THUS FOULING THOSE TWO SPARK PLUGS.THE TRUCK WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE SAME SYMPTOMS APPEARED AGAIN IN AUGUST 2020 AND THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE SAME ISSUE (MIS-FIRE IN THE #7 CYLINDER) AS DESCRIBED IN THE TSB. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, GM WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I CHOSE TO DEAL WITH THE SYMPTOMS MYSELF WHICH INVOLVED INSTALLING NEW SPARK PLUGS IN THE TWO CYLINDERS. IN MID-MARCH OF THIS YEAR (2021), THE SYMPTOMS APPEARED AGAIN AND AGAIN THE #1 AND #7 SPARK PLUGS WERE FOULED WITH MOTOR OIL. IN EACH CASE, THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE SYMPTOMS PRESENTED. IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT STABILITRAK IS DESIGNED TO HELP PREVENT ACCIDENTS BY GIVING THE DRIVER BETTER CONTROL OF THE SILVERADO. DASH CRACKED ACROSS TOP OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND ABOVE THE AIRBAG. TOOK TRUCK IN FOR AIRBAG RECALL. WENT TO PICK UP TRUCK FROM RECALL AND FOUND A BIG HOLE ABOUT 3 INCHES IN THE TOP OF MY DASH BESIDE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. I WAS NOT WARNED BY SERVICE DESK OF POSSIBLE DAMAGE FORM AIR BAG REPLACEMENT NOR WAS I INFORMED BY SERVICE DESK WHEN THE DAMAGE WAS DONE. NOTHING WAS SAID WHEN I PICKED UP MY TRUCK. I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE DAMAGE A WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO UV RAYS. TRUCK HAS 60,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN KEPT IN GARAGE. THEY DID NOT EVEN CLEAN UP THE DASH WHEN THEY WERE DONE. I CAN;T DRIVE THE TRUCK WITH FAMILY MEMBERS IN IT BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO PUT IN A NEW DASH JUST TO BE ABLE TO TRADE IT OFF. IT IS JUST NOT RIGHT. ANOTHER ISSUE WAS WITH THE ENGINE AND WAS TURNED INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN IT HAS 36,000 MILES. THE ENGINE HAS A MISS WHEN IN PARK OR SETTING AT A LIGHT. THE RPM DROPS 150- 200 RPMS CONTINUOUSLY. AFTER THEY HAD THE TRUCK FOR 3 DAYS I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. IT WAS THE COMPUTER ADJUSTING FOR EMISSIONS. MAYBE BUT WHY DID THEY GIVE ME A GM STORE VOUCHER FOR 500 DOLLARS? TO BUY ME OFF, SHUT ME UP. WHO KNOWS. IT JUST AIN'T RIGHT.

APPEARS ENTIRE FRAME SHOULD BE REPLACED OR EXTENSIVE WELDING OF NEW METAL ONTO EXISTING FRAME. THE REAR PASSENGER SHOCH BROKE OFF AND FELL ONTO THE HIGHWAY PRIOR TO THIS. IMY 2013 CHEVY Z21 HAS STARTED LEAKING SROUND THE LIGHT ON TOP AND BACK LIGHT ON THE HOOD OF THE TRUCK. I NOTICED WET SPOT ON BACK PART OF HEADLINER AND SOME MOLD IN THE AREA. EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS IS THAT AFTER IT WAS REPLACED THE FIRST TIME THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT THEY NEW IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH ALL OF THE BLACK INTERIOR VEHICLES THAT HAD THE GRAY DASH AND THAT IT WILL CRACK AGAIN. AFTER A VISIT TO MY USUAL SERVICE GARAGE AND SUBSEQUENTLY A CERTIFIED DEALER., THE PROBLEM WAS ACKNOWLEDGED. I CALLED CHEVROLET USA AND OPENED A FILE BASED ON MY INFORMATION. AT ONE POINT MY TRUCK COMPUTER WARNED TO PULL OVER AND NOT DRIVE ANY FURTHER DUE TO LOW OIL. UPON INSPECTION THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL REASON FOR THE FACT THAT THE OIL WAS LOW. THE VEHICLE HAS REGULAR OIL CHANGES WITH MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC. AFTER CHECKING CHEVROLET 5.3 LITER ENGINE ISSUES I FOUND THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WAS FILED REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE AS MINE. THE SUIT DID NOT GO ANYWHERE BUT THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE THE SAME THAT MY TRUCK IS EXPERIENCING. IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANY LONGER BUT HAD ONLY 71,453 MILES AT THE TIME OF ISSUE RECOGNITION. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE BASICALLY DISMISSED MY COMPLAINT SAYING THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO BECAUSE THERE'S NO RECALL OR GM BULLETIN. THE DEALER SOLUTION IS A PISTON AND RING REPLACEMENT FOR $ 6,999.95 WHICH IS BASICALLY AN ENGINE REBUILD (BUT NOT A COMPLETE ONE). IN ADDITION, THEY WILL INSTALL WHAT WAS REFERRED TO AS A BALLAST WHICH WOULD SOLVE THE CONSUMPTION ISSUE SUPPOSEDLY. IF THIS IS TRUE THEN I ASSUME THAT THERE IS AN INHERENT ISSUE. ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE IS TO CHECK YOUR OIL EVERY 1000 MILES AND IF YOU ARE LOW THEN ADD IT. NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE WITH A VEHICLE THAT COST OVER $40,000 WITH 71,000 PLUS MILES. MY 2013 HAS DEVELOPED THE NOTORIOUS LIFTER TICK FROM A COLLAPSED LIFTER (THIS AFFECTS MANY 5.3L V8 ENGINES OF THIS ERA). THIS WILL LEAD TO EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING, AND CLOGGED EXHAUST SYSTEMS OVER TIME DUE TO THE OIL BURNING. THIS ALSO DAMAGES/DESTROYS THE CAM SHAFT OVER TIME AND REQUIRES FREQUENT SPARK PLUG CHANGES. I SUSPECT THIS PROBLEM STARTED AS EARLY AS 60,000 MILES (WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY) HOWEVER BECAUSE THE TRUCK WASN'T CONSUMING 1 QT / 1000 MILES GM REFUSED TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE FURTHER. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE ON THESE VEHICLES OVER TIME, THIS CAN LEAD TO STALLS OR BREAKDOWNS WHICH CAN BE A HAZARD. IT ALSO SERVERELY DIMINISHES THE RESALE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE AS THE REQUIRED REPAIRS ARE QUITE EXPENSIVE (ABOUT $2000 - $3500).

THE REPAIR SHOP SHOWED ME A SMALL POT METAL ARM THAT BROKE INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL AND CAUSED THE PROBLEM. WHILE NOT AN ISSUE BY ITSELF, IF THE AUTO WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, THIS WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED THE DRIVER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, DEPENDING ON THE FINAL RESTING POSITION. FURTHER ADDING TO THIS IS THAT THE ISSUE APPEARED FOR A DAY, THEN THE DOOR WORKED FINE FOR 2 MORE DAYS BEFORE BECOMING PERMANENTLY NON-FUNCTIONING.

ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED THERE WILL BE PICTURES OF DASH BOARD SHARDS FIYING THROUGH THE AIR AND POSSIBLY INTO THE OCCUPANTS WITH FORCE FROM THE AIRBAG.

HAD TO ACTUALLY PULL THE FUSE BLOCK OUT OF THE TRUCK TO GET IT TO TURN OFF AND STOP IT FROM BURNING. SITTING AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP NOW WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM. SHOULD HAVE TAKEN PICTURES.

WHILE DRIVING ON A COOL MORNING (55 F) THE DRIVER SIDE DEFOGGED, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD DEFOG. I TURNED THE TEMP WARMER AND THE AIRFLOW UP, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS STILL VERY SLOW TO DEFOG. THERE WAS VERY LOW AIRFLOW COMING FROM THE VENT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. AFTER THE TEMP/AIRFLOW WAS ADJUSTED TO A REASONABLE SETTING, THE PASSENGER SIDE SUDDENLY FOGGED UP AGAIN, IMMEDIATELY IMPEDING VISIBILITY OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND THE PASSENGER WINDOW, ALSO BLOCKING VISIBILITY OF THE PASSENGER MIRROR. WAS ADVISED BY DEALER THAT THE CAUSE WAS AN IMPROPERLY INSTALLED SEAL ADJACENT TO THE HEATER CORE, BUT NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL OR WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED, AS SUDDEN FOGGING AND LOSS OF VISIBILITY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD LIKELY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

SINCE WE HAVE REPLACED THE AIR BAG MODULE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AGAIN TO HAVE IT PROGRAMMED AND SERVICE STATED THAT THE NEW MODULE WOULD NOT ACCEPT PROGRAMMING AND THEY ARE STILL NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THERE IS A CRACK IN THE DASHBOARD ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. IT RUNS FROM THE CORNER OF THE AIRBAG COVER TO THE EDGE OF THE DASHBOARD PIECE. THE DASHBOARD PIECE IS ELEVATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CRACK. THERE IS ALSO A SECOND CRACK FORMING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SAME DASHBOARD PIECE NEAR THE DRIVER INSTRUMENT PANEL HOOD.
I HAVE HAD A VIBRATION ISSUE SINCE GETTING MY SECOND SET OF REPLACEMENT RIMS. I AM ON MY THIRD SET OF WHEELS AND THE VIBRATION IS WORSE. THE FOGGING CONTINUES EVEN AFTER THE HEATER IS WARMED UP AND BLOWING HOT AIR OUT THE DEFROSTER DUCTS ESPECIALLY IF THE PASSENGERS ARE WET OR SNOWY WHEN THEY GET IN. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT GM IS TRYING PREVENT THE A/C EVAPORATOR FROM BEING BLOCKED BY FREEZING CONDENSATION, BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS SITUATION COULD BE HELPED BY RECIRCULATION OF CABIN AIR PLUS BLEEDING SOME HOT AIR FROM THE HEATER CORE BACK TO THE A/C EVAPORATOR. THE 2013 SILVERADO TRUCK I OWN HAS A LOUD POPPING NOISE IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WHEN THE TRUCK IS TURNED OFF. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS NORMAL, BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT DIDN'T SOUND RIGHT TO HIM. ON THE WAY TO WORK ON MONDAY MORNING, SEPT 1ST, 2014 AS MY HUSBAND APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT HE NOTICED THE VEHICLE AT THE LIGHT BACKUP LIGHTS COME ON. THE SEATBELT WAS IN THE EXTENDED POSITION AND WOULD NOT EXTEND FURTHER OR RETRACT. ON THE DISPLAY PANEL IT HAD AN 'AIRBAG DEPLOYED' ICON AND MESSAGE 'SERVICE AIRBAG'. MY INSURANCE COMPANY GAVE ME A AUTO REPAIR SHOP TO GO TO FOR AN ESTIMATE, HOWEVER, THE SHOP TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH THE VEHICLE UNTIL A GM REPRESENTATIVE INVESTIGATED THE SYSTEM FIRST AS THEY FELT THE SEATBELT SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED ME FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. I CALLED GM AND SPOKE WITH WALTER IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. HE ARRANGED TO HAVE A 'THIRD PARTY' INVESTIGATOR COME AND DO A INTERROGATION OF THE SYSTEM AND ARRANGED FOR A LOANER VEHICLE. RAYTHEON REPRESENTATIVE 'JEFF" CALLED ME SUNDAY MARCH 20 AND STATED HE WAS TO INTERROGATE THE SYSTEM AND WOULD CONTACT ME FROM THE AIRPORT WHEN HE GOT TO TOWN ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 23. ON WEDNESDAY MARCH 23 I CALLED JEFF TO SEE IF HE WAS IN TOWN AND HE STATED HE WAS AT THE AIRPORT 'LEAVING' TOWN, HE HAD DONE HIS INVESTIGATION AND DETERMINED EVERYTHING WORKED LIKE IT SHOULD. I ASKED HIM IF I WAS SUPPOSED TO HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND HE STATED HE DID NOT AGREE OR DISAGREE. *TR
MY WIPER BLADE WAS DAMAGED FROM ICE AND ROAD SPRAY DURING A STORM. I TRIED TO BUY A REPLACEMENT. FOUND WIPER USES AN ODD VEHICLE SPECIFIC MOUNT. WIPER BLADE SEEMS TO BE ONLY AVAILABLE FROM CHEVY. NOT EVEN A DELCO BLADE IS AVAILABLE. THERE IS NO REASON TO USE A NEW STYLE MOUNT, THE BASIC ARM AND BLADE ARE THE SAME AS ALWAYS. NOT HAVING THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY REPLACE A DAMAGED BLADE DURING BAD WEATHER CREATES A REAL SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS WHEN CHEVY DEALERS ARE CLOSED. *TR
THE PASSENGER WINDSHIELD WIPER DOES NOT TOUCH THE WINDSHIELD TO THE EXTREME RIGHT IN THE LOWER POSITION. THIS CAUSES A STREAKED WINDSHIELD AND ICE BUILD UP IN THE WINTER. IT MAKES IT HARD TO SO A CAR APPROACHING FROM THE RIGHT IN RAIN AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE IN THE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE BLADE BUT THE NEW BLADE STILL DOESN'T WIPE THE FULL WINDSHIELD. I'VE CALLED GM AND THEY SIAD THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO SINCE IT MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW IN THE WIPER SYSTEM. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE AT NIGHT IN A RAIN AND IN THE WINTER WHEN THERE IS ANY ICE OR SNOW. TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTS MULTIPLE GEARS WHEN I DECELERATE. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED AT 70 MPH CAUSING A VERY HARD DECELERATION AND NEAR LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. I HAVE HAD THREE OTHER LIKE INCIDENCES AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45 AND 70 MPH. THESE HAPPENED ON DRY PAVEMENT AND I WAS ABLE TO SLOW SAFELY. HAD THIS OCCURRED ON WET OR SNOW COVERED ROADS, I HAVE NO DOUBT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. 2 . AT TIMES WHEN I ACCELERATE THERE IS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. WHEN THE ENGINE DOES RESPOND, THE TRUCK ACCELERATES AS IF I HAVE THE THROTTLE FLOORED. AGAIN THIS HAS HAPPENED ON DRY PAVEMENT. SLICK CONDITIONS WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SPIN OUT. 3. VEHICLE SURGES BETWEEN 20 AND 45 MPH. ENGINE RPM CONTINUALLY JUMPS 200-300 RPM CAUSING CONSTANT SURGING. BESIDES BEING VERY ANNOYING, IT WOULD BE DANGEROUS ON ICY ROADS.

JUNE, 2013 - A TROPICAL STORM SWEPT THROUGH THE AREA, DUMPING TONS OF RAIN; CAUSING THE HUMIDITY TO RISE A FEW HOURS LATER AS WELL AS CAUSING EVERYTHING TO BE MOIST/WET. BOTH EVENTS WERE EITHER IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OR IN THE EVENING AFTER THE SUN WENT DOWN, AND INVOLVE WETNESS/MOISTURE, HUMIDITY, AND THE INABILITY TO "DRY" THE WINDSHIELD. PROBLEM: THERE IS A "CONDENSATION FILM" THAT FORMS ON THE WINDSHIELD DUE TO THE OUTSIDE ELEMENTS BEING MORE MOIST AND HUMID THAN THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. USUALLY, WHEN TURNING ON THE DEFROSTER, THIS WILL "DRY" THE WINDSHIELD AND MAKE THE CONDENSATION FILM GO AWAY. HOWEVER, THE DEFROSTER ON THIS MODEL DOES NOT "DRY" THE WINDSHIELD ON THE RIGHT SIDE (PASSENGER) OF THE VEHICLE. THE AIR COMING OUT OF THE DEFROSTER ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS NOT AS STRONG AS THE LEFT. THERE IS A CONSTANT CONDENSATION FILM THAT FORMS AND REMAINS. THE WIPERS WILL CLEAR THE WETNESS/MOISTURE AWAY, TEMPORARILY, BUT THE FILM REMAINS AND THE MOISTURE/WETNESS RETURNS. RECENTLY PURCHASED SILVERADO 3500HD TRUCK, I HAD NO IDEA IT DID NOT HAVE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM UNTIL I GOT HOME AND WAS GOING THROUGH THE VEHICLE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. I THOUGHT ALL CONSUMER VEHICLES HAS THIS SAFETY FEATURE. AS IT TURNS OUT EVERYONE AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALSO SURPRISED. I RELAYED THIS INFORMATION TO THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST INCIDENT BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING IT HAPPENS AT SPEED WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING.
