5 maintenance items are approaching or past their service milestones. Address these before purchase or negotiate the cost into the sale price.
No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~84,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
MONITORCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Timing Chain Tensioner service before 120,000 mi
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
DUE SOONCriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 100,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Water Pump service before 100,000 mi
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighDifferential / Transfer Case Fluid
Service interval: 4 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Differential / Transfer Case Fluid immediately — already past the 50,000 mi / 4 yr interval
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval

In and out of the shop for the last 3.5 years (Warranty is expired now) with multiple engin codes (CEL). Most having to do with the fuel delivery systems. Most common P026D, and P1089. It has been in the shop at least 6 or more times. GM won't stand by their product. Since the warranty ended I've put mor than $4,000 in to repairs for this and now I'm told it will cost me anouther $6000 to $7000 to repair. I bout this truck used with 60,000 miles on it and paid cash $50,000 to the dealer the originally sold it to the previous owner. I just want them to fix the issue once and for all. To date they have just thrown parts at it but it never fixes the problem. They have changed the MAP sensor, the fuel rail and pressure regulator, the injectors, and they've re-wired part of the wiring harness. None of this has solved the issues.

I experienced shuttering when accelerating, leaving Treasure Island garage. I got on the freeway and drove 11 miles. I experienced shuttering again after waiting at a red light. I experienced final shuttering after reaching another red light. Had it towed to the dealership and was told that the transmission was no longer operational. Truck was 5.5 years old with a little over 60k miles. I was on the way to pick up my daughter and thankfully, she was not in the truck when this occurred. Truck did routine maintenance at Chevy dealerships only. Fairway for the majority and Findlay the final year of its life.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while reversing, the rearview camera image was blank, and the message "Service Camera" was displayed. The contact noticed that upon closing the tailgate with the key, the rearview camera image failed to display while reversing. The contact stated that the failure was initially occurring intermittently, but the rearview camera later became inoperable. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

ODI #11690756ENGINEFIRE

The contact's husband owned a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while her husband was driving and she was a passenger, their vehicle shuddered and then lost power at approximately 55 MPH. The vehicle was guided to the side of the road, where the contact and her husband noticed smoke emerging near the gear shift. For safety reasons, they both exited the vehicle and moved away from it. The contact then observed flames appearing between the driver's side of the cab and the bed of the vehicle, which quickly burst into flames. Another motorist attempted to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher, but it ran out before the fire could be contained, and the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. Although the police were called, a formal report was not filed. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact saw oil on the ground underneath the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a leaking valve cover gasket. The contact was informed that the valve cover gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent where it was diagnosed with a failed CAM shaft carrier gasket. The contact was informed that the CAM shaft carrier gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

Transmission Component: M5T: TRANSMISSION AUTO 8 SPD, 8L45 available for inspection. The vehicle shakes badly and shudders during acceleration and causes a brief inability to accelerate, often at higher speeds and with a great deal of rumbling and vibration. No other warning lamps, messages, or symptoms. The problem first appeared about 2 months ago. I recognized it as a persistent problem, and I was no longer comfortable driving the vehicle and feared that it would shut down while driving. I took my vehicle for diagnostic and maintenance at a local service center who also noticed that the transfer case "is making an unusual squeaking noise when driving". I was then notified that this is a known problem with this vehicle make and model for 2019 and referred here to file a complaint. Having less than 60K miles on this vehicle, I was referred to the dealership for possible next steps.

The infotainment center goes out, then comes on on a frequent basis causing the loss of navigation system through CarPlay and now will not even connect to CarPlay also loses backup camera. In addition I have noted that when the blinker is on to signal a turn, it will stop the blinker system when the infotainment center goes out, which is a safety concern with the use of blinkers to signal approaching rear traffic to the vehicle. I have contacted the dealer and also see there’s an infotainment bulletin out. I have not had a response from the dealership as of this report. I am also a certified safety professional, and the loss of turn signal in conjunction with the infotainment center outage raises a safety concern in my opinion. This has been an ongoing issue with the system for the last year or so and has progressively gotten worse to the point that the screen now goes out every minute or so for 5 to 30 seconds and now CarPlay will no longer connect to phone for navigation. The constant screen going black started within the last 30 days of June 2025.

My 2019 Chevrolet Colorado, equipped with the 3.6L LGZ engine, recently triggered a P0024 diagnostic trouble code. This code indicates a failure of the Bank 2 exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid, a critical part of the variable valve timing (VVT) system. After researching, I discovered that General Motors has issued Special Coverage N232430470 for this exact issue on the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado, which uses the same LGZ engine and solenoid system. Despite the identical failure and engine design, my vehicle is not currently included in the coverage. I believe this reflects a systemic defect that affects multiple model years — not just 2020 — and that GM is choosing to limit coverage unfairly. This failure can result in check engine warnings, drivability issues, reduced fuel economy, and possibly emissions system non-compliance. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate whether this VVT solenoid issue warrants a broader recall or special coverage extension across model years with the LGZ engine (including 2019).

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact's husband stated that while driving 20 MPH, while attempting to turn into a parking lot, and another vehicle was attempting to exit the same parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's husband depressed the brake pedal, the brake pedal seized, and the contact had to veer and downshift to first gear to avoid crashing into the other vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with vacuum pump failure and a fractured part from the vacuum camshaft. The vehicle was not fully repaired. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired by the dealer because the vehicle was not under recall and parts were on back order, as per the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I was driving around 60mph on a highway with cruise control. Heavy traffic resulted in a major accident in front of me. I slammed my brakes, which prevented me from getting involved in the altercation. However, the vacuum pump on the Colorado shattered, and I was forced to drive on the highway with a limited ability to brake. I recall the brake pedal being flushed against the floor. Luckily, I am young and strong. However, if any elderly person were driving, they would not be able to brake the car due to the excessive force I had to apply. Furthermore, after pulling off the highway, my engine leaked oil. To empathize, after slamming my brakes, my brakes stopped working.

Had vehicle towed to Chevrolet Dealership was told high pressure fuel pump mounting bolts had broken and fuel pump was loose. Dealer replace fuel pump and one fuel pipe (part #12627128). I paid full price repair ($ 1,775.21) and contacted Chevrolet to see if they would offer any assistance I was under the power-train mileage but over on time. They offered and I accepted 50% of the repair cost but no towing. After some research I discovered there was a recall (18V358000) for an erlier model for a similar problem . The recall was for the fuel pump separating from the base which could damage the fuel line and create a fire hazard. In my case the entire pump came loose which leads to the same result as the pump separating from the mounting plate.

I purchased my 2019 Chevy Colorado Z71 new in Feb 2019 from a dealership. About two years ago I began having shifting issues from 1st to 2nd gear, it would shudder and seem almost stuck, this would only occur infrequently. Right after I hit 100,000 miles (about a year ago) I have had nothing but issues with the 8 speed transmission, my vehicle is unable to shift from 1st to 2nd without having the shudder occur, it feels like the whole truck is shaking and loses power at acceleration. I took it in for their recommended "service bulletin" which was something that I had to locate myself because GM has not once communicated about there being any kind of shudder issue and they performed a simple flush of the transmission, not the service bulletin recommendation of three flushes and a different fluid. My truck is now in the shop because I am unable to drive it due to this ongoing issue that GM fails to recognize and so far have spent $1,000 attempting to rectify this issue and being told that in order for them to actually perform the service bulletin, it will be another $225 to diagnose the problem, around $500-$700 to perform the service bulletin, and then if that "does not fix the problem", I will have to spend another $900 on a torque converter because that "could" be the issue, the dealership "doesn't know". Then the third fix would be to replace the transmission ($5500-$8500) This has been a known issue since manufacturing and GM is failing to provide adequate assistance to fix a known problem with their 8 speed transmissions. I no longer feel safe to operate my chevy colorado in fear that it could cause serious injury to myself and others due to GM not being able to provide a safe fix to their ongoing issue.

My vehicle has only 70,000 miles on it. My transmission began to shimmy and is getting worse and worse and several technicians have told me the transmission will have to be replaced. The parts are not available anywhere in the country to rebuild the parts of the transmission that are defective. Secondly I was told I could replace the transmission but there are no transmissions available in the entire country to repair my vehicle with. After investigation on the internet this is a massive problem with this model vehicle and Chevy has been well aware of it for years. A few months ago I had the same problem with them air conditioner compressor. There were no air conditioner compressors available anywhere in the country for my four and a half year old vehicle.

This truck has roughly 41000 miles on it. As I was driving home from work on [XXX], I heard a faint noise and then my truck just lost power and died on the freeway. There were no engine warning lights on and did not want to restart and stay running. After a few times of starting and dying the message on the dash said keep driving engine is in regen. This is a diesel truck and the newer ones have a regeneration that is done with DEF. I was unable to get it off onto the exit, but did get it off the roadway. The vehicle was towed into the shop on February 3rd, 2024. The shop had to order parts and said that it was just a faulty part. I received the truck back on March 14th. I drove it home from the shop and to work for two days putting roughly 100 miles on the truck. On my way home on [XXX] , the truck died again with no warning at all. Same symptoms, just no power and no warning. The truck was towed back to the shop where it still sits today. The problem is there is an issue with this thing dying without any warning at all. The dealer and Chevrolet techs have been unsuccessful in finding the problem. It has been almost 6 months in the shop with literally no idea of what is wrong. I feel this is a serious safety issue that could leave people or families stranded without any warning or idea of how to repair. I feel this should be investigated and brought to someone's attention. I have contacted Chevrolet, but unfortunately they have left everything up to the dealership. The dealer is Auburn Chevrolet in Auburn, WA. I cannot remove the key from the ignition switch after shutting it off. The engine will shut down but the key stays on the accessories position eventually causing the battery to go dead. It doesn't do it all the time, but it at some point in time it will become permanent. I consider this a very serious safety issue as I cannot lock the vehicle therefore it can be very easily stolen. Since I cannot lock it, a child could get in the vehicle and start it up and who knows what would happen after that. I also owned another GM vehicle with the same issue the key could not be removed from the ignition switch. Because an injury was involved a GM Rep came to check it out. After working several hours, he told us he could not find anything wrong with the ignition. It seems funny we never had an issue with it after he had checked it out. Lawsuit averted! I firmly believe this is a serious safety issue must be investigated!!

February 2023 my son was driving 40 mph (approx) and the power steering became disabled. We took the truck to Landers McLarty Chevrolet. They never mentioned a known recall for this issue on previous year models. The Truck only had 27,000 miles but was out of warranty for the 3 years had expired in August. They gave an initial estimate and repair of $750. Picked up the vehicle and on the way home same thing happens again - lost power steering and then had warning lights on dash after it went out. Took it directly back to dealership. 3 attempts and 5 weeks later including +-$5K cost for 3 different repairs - issue seemed to be resolved. The issue returned today as my son was driving 55 mph (approx) lost power steering in extremely heavy traffic. Knowing what had happened before he was able to navigate to an exit without having an accident. There seems to be a known issue with the power steering on the Colorado. There was a previous recall on earlier year. I had made complaints and spoke to GM multiple times and they said it needed to go through the dealer. The mechanic also stated that AUL service warranty (protective asset protection) denied the claim to repair as it is a known issue.... Currently attempting to speak with them to appeal the decision. The warranty company is also not above board as well as they have worded their contract to be misleading with provisions to deny claims due to common causes of failure. Realistically if Chevrolet did not address the problem of the 2015 model year the recall should be expanded.

When I put the truck in park it goes into park fine. I can turn the engine off but I can't remove the key because the ignition switch won't go all the way forward. The lights stay on and also the radio. I had to repeatedly start and stop the truck and move the gear shift selector to remove key. I had the same problem in February 2022. The dealer fixed it by replacing gear shift selector while under warranty. The problem was remedied. Said this was happening and there was a TSB about this problem. This problem was never consistent. Now in Aug. 2023 I am having the same problem. The truck is no longer under warranty and the dealer says that I must pay to have it diagnosed and fixed. Chevrolet is aware they have this problem with several different models and don't want to acknowledge it and take responsibility. There are several class action lawsuits filed about this. This is a safety issue because I just can't leave the truck with the key in the ignition. I looked online and have seen that Chevrolet has this problem with several models of different years. They should find a solution and have a recall to address this problem. The dealer also told me my truck was actually worth less if I were to trade it in because of this problem. Should have said something in 2019 as they knew about this problem since at least 2016. They fix the problem by replacing faulty parts with the same faulty parts.

We purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado December 2022. Beginning in January 2023 to current month July 2023 the vehicle has been at the dealership 4 times for the same occurrence: SERVICE STABILITRAK and ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED A warning “ding” sounds (the same noise as seatbelt, door ajar, etc) simultaneously with the messages “SERVICE STABILITRAK” and “ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED” The vehicle immediately is jerking or lurching, the engine no longer runs smoothly and is misfiring. The engine power reduced does not allow safe acceleration, and the vehicle is unstable (as it moves it feels like driving over a thousand speed bumps over and over), the engine misfiring is heard from the exhaust and the vehicle is visibly vibrating, on acceleration the maximum speed is 20 mph. All 4 times this has happened while driving the vehicle on highways in traffic. We are left unable to get out of the way of moving traffic, unable to accelerate, change lanes or make turns safely. Three of the four times we had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The last time the vehicle did this fortunately I was near our local dealership and drove it less than a mile so the service people could “witness” what I had been trying to explain what’s been happening with this vehicle. This is a very serious issue! My husband is 75 and very ill. I have to drive him 100+ miles for treatments on a regular basis. We cannot continue to be put in danger because of this vehicle default. We need this problem fixed not only for ourselves but for the safety of others, including unsuspecting drivers and innocent passengers, young, elderly, disabled, some simply misunderstanding our vehicles “failures to perform” in traffic on the roads. A trusted vehicle is very important. A stabile vehicle with sufficient engine power is a must if we are going to put it on the roads. “SERVICE STABILITRAK” and “ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED” is not new. General Motors needs to take action to correct this problem and educate dealers.

Twice now I've had to have the powering steering replaced due to water penetration. After approx 25000 miles both times I've had failure. The power steering will momentarily stop causing you to apply pressure to the steering wheel causing an over steer condition. This also happens in slow turns to when you try to straighten the wheel, it's almost like a magnet keeps you from turning and when it releases, you over steer causing the vehicle to cross over the lane your traveling in. Several other people have had this same issue as I've researched it online. It's a very dangerous situation, and now a costly one if this keeps happening.

When talking, my audio will echo me at a loud volume for a brief second and then cut out for 3-5 seconds. When it comes back the audio will not always be at the volume it was previously. Sometimes louder sometimes very quiet, either way I have no control to change it. This will regularly happen 2-5 times during a 30 min phone call. Usually when I hang up after this happens the problems will persist. Sometimes all audio goes out, sometimes I will lose the ability to control the volume, and sometimes the volume will adjust after a 5-10 second delay. The display will sometimes blackout or reset. These problems are system wide across all audio functions including FM radio, Bluetooth audio, and apple carplay. I CAME UP TO A TWO LANE CITY STREET, FOUR WAY STOP INTERSECTION AND STOPPED. I TURNED MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT (IN ORDER TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN) AND STEPPED ON THE GAS. THE VEHICLE TURNED TO THE LEFT, OUT INTO THE INTERSECTION, INSTEAD OF RIGHT. THE STEERING STAYED LOCKED TO THE LEFT AND WOULD NOT TURN IN IN EITHER DIRECTION. I HAD JUST CAME OFF THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. HAD THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. THE DEALER SAID, THERE WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE IN THE STEERING MOTOR. I UNDERSTAND THAT PARTS CAN FAIL, BUT THE FACT THAT THERE WAS NO FAIL SAFE MODE, IS DISCONCERTING. I LOST ALL CONTROL OF MY STEERING. I HATE TO THINK OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS AT SPEED INSTEAD OF STOPPED.

THE TRANSMISSION HAS A DELAYED DOWNSHIFT, CAUSING THE TRUCK JUMP FORWARD DURING A STOP. WHEN COMING TO A STOP, IT FEELS LIKE THE TRUCK IS BEING HIT FROM BEHIND, AT THE SAME TIME, MAKING A LOUD MECHANICAL NOISE. SOMETIMES IT HITS SO HARD, IT WILL CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BE THROWN PAST MY DRIVEWAY, WHILE PREPARING TO TURN INTO THE DRIVEWAY. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE FACTORY TRANSMISSION FLUID BE REPLACED WITH A THICKER FLUID, SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD THAT DONE. ALTHOUGH IT FIXED THE PREVIOUS ISSUE OF VIBRATION, CAUSED FROM THE TRANSMISSION SWITCHING BACK AND FOURTH BETWEEN GEARS RAPIDLY, BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE HARD AND DELAYED DOWNSHIFT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FROM THE MOMENT I PULLED IT OFF THE LOT, WITH ONLY 4 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE TRUCK WAS IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP, IN WHICH THEY SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. *TR

THE "SECOND" OCCURRENCE-THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER, AND THEY STATED THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE "THIRD" OCCURRENCE-THE GAUGE WENT TO "E", WHILE DRIVING, THE DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS NOW A CORD/WIRE THAT ATTACHED TO THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR RUNNING THE LENGTH OF THE VEHICLE UNDER THE TRUCK. SINCE IT "APPEARS" THE RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE IS QUESTIONABLE, AND THE DEALER(S) HAVE NOT FULLY CORRECTED THE ISSUE, HOW CAN I BE CONFIDENT THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY HAS FUEL? ALSO, THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE BLUE TOOTH LINKING TO "I-PHONES/IOS SYSTEMS (ONLY), NOT ANDROID PHONE/SYSTEMS,AS CALL/TEXT NOTIFICATIONS MAY NOT ALWAYS ALERT WHILE YOU ARE IN THE VEHICLE. Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 141 total NHTSA complaints filed over 8 years, with the worst year being 2019 (26 complaints, including 3 crash reports).

The amber reliability line shows an improving trend — scores have risen from the earlier years toward 27/100 more recently, suggesting the most serious issues are older and may have been addressed through repairs or recalls.

Notably, despite 141 complaints on file, no recall has been issued — either the defect pattern has not met NHTSA's threshold for a formal campaign, or a recall may be forthcoming.

Red dots on the amber line flag 3 years (2019, 2024, 2025) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.

GM 8-Speed Transmission Shudder Special Coverage
Transmission – 8L90 / 8L45 8-Speed Automatic
COVERAGE:7 years / 100,000 miles from original sale date

8-speed automatic transmissions (8L90 and 8L45) exhibit a shuddering or shaking sensation during light acceleration, especially at highway speeds. GM issued multiple TSBs and extended coverage programs. The fix involves a fluid exchange with a revised fluid formulation and, in persistent cases, torque converter replacement.

HOW TO CLAIM: Contact your GM dealer with your VIN. Multiple TSBs address this (PIP5353, PIP5555, etc.). If the fluid exchange does not resolve the shudder, the torque converter should be replaced under warranty.

Coverage eligibility depends on your VIN, original sale date, and current mileage. Always verify with an authorized dealer or manufacturer customer service — programs may have been updated since this database was compiled.
