No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~72,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
MONITORCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~72,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Timing Chain Tensioner service before 120,000 mi
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
MONITORCriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 100,000 mi · Est. ~72,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Water Pump service before 100,000 mi
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 6 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighDifferential / Transfer Case Fluid
Service interval: 4 yr · Vehicle age: 6 yr · Past due by age
Service Differential / Transfer Case Fluid immediately — already past the 50,000 mi / 4 yr interval
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 6 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval

The contact owns a 2020 Cadillac CT5. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and experienced hard shifts intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure progressively worsened, and the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound while driving. The check engine warning light and the traction control warning light were illuminated. The contact determined that the transmission needed to be replaced; however, it was an extensive repair. The contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V148000 (Power Train); however, the recall repair only involved the transmission control module monitoring software installation. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the transmission repair was not covered under the recall. The contact stated that the recall remedy was inadequate to correct the failure. The electronic exterior door handle on my CT5 has failed and raises a concern of what if there was an accident and nobody was able to open the door if I was unconscious. I believe that having a key access is not enough and there should be a mechanical exterior door handle instead of an electronic handle that fails and is costly to repair.

While slowing down vehicle felt as if it was put into park momentarily, which cause car to slide on ice. After reading the recall, I am certain that the transmission failed. Car was towed to Ray Skillman cheverolet on south post road in Indianapolis, to which they already ran the vin and agreed to perform the recall. After they realized it was a more serious problem than software, they refused to work on the vehicle. So they worked on it long enough to find out they would have to cover it, then denied that they would do any work. They stated that the title is branded. The BMV has no brands listed on title. The service guy Ryan laughed at me today when I stated that it was dangerous, and told me good luck getting some one to help if I filed a complaint. Regardless they won’t touch the car

While key FOB is operational, next to car door and under moderate temperature conditions, the exterior door handle(s) wont open the car door. The doors freeze, remain latched in place from the outside. The interior door handle on the same door remains operational. This makes it difficult to get into the vehicle to remove people from inside the car should dangerous conditions be present while they are unable to operate the interior handle themselves and/or its difficult to enter the vehicle for safety should dangerous conditions be present outside the vehicle. The doors are jammed, we cant get to you!! There are reports of this happening to all four doors. The dealership says the exterior door handle must be replaced for the door to open from the outside again and it is uncertain if the replacement handle has the defect corrected or not. The latch freeze could occur again, anytime unless the replacement is improved. My vehicle had only 8500 miles on it and the exterior handle failed on the front drivers side. How many times will this condition repeat itself without warning during the lifetime of the car. CadillacForum has discussion on the matter including how some with the problem are disassembling the part and “repairing” the handle defect from the inside. This unnecessary risk could develop into an event that contributed to injuries. A reliable part must be installed asap though many cannot afford the $480 expense to replace it at the dealership. I had a 2000 Cadillac CTS for 20 years and didn’t have a problem with doors locking up from the outside - door handles not responding to efforts to open the door with a correct and operational key fob present. The contact received an alert from OnStar pertaining to the critically low battery. Additionally, the contact noticed that there was an abnormal squishing sound coming from the dashboard, and the contact believed that the sound was coming from an animal that had intruded into the vehicle. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to a tire center where all four TPMS sensors were replaced. The contact stated that the message "Reduced Power" was displayed on the instrument cluster. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate above 10 MPH. The contact was able to drive the vehicle off the highway and then to the residence. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and saw several warning lights illuminated on the instrument cluster. The contact was able to clear the codes, and then the vehicle was driven to a dealer. The dealer checked and saw that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V148000 (Power Train) and proceeded to reflash the Power Control Module and install the transmission monitoring software. The vehicle was repaired. The contact informed the dealer that the rear wheels had locked up and which indicated transmission damage. The dealer performed the recall repair and informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact was advised that the engine was leaking engine oil. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired for the oil leak failure. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the contact that there was no assistance that could be provided. For no apparent reason my vehicle is shifting itself into Neutral while driving. The car will suddenly completely slow down to a stop and in order to restart the car, I have to put it in park. It doesn't matter what speed or the road condition, it simply comes to a slow stop because it is no longer in driving mode, it has shifted itself into Neutral. The recall has been serviced and after more than 10 days of being in 2 different Cadillac service centers, I am advised they are unable to simulate the issue, thus the issue is not resolved. It is most definitely a safety issue because the vehicle will just stop moving with the flow of traffic. My concern is being rear-ended or having any type of accident since the car abruptly stops without warning.

Major safety Concern Faulty valve body and transmission dealership failed to disclose. Service manager drove vehicle with bent wheels. That is how the bent wheels were discovered. Not from inspection. Wheels evidently bent under dealership possession. 2020 Cadillac CT5 Vehicle financed at 12K Miles with certified pre owned, bumper to bumper, and powertrain warranties in February 2024 showed poor driving, shifting, acceleration and abnormal behaviors such as slow and delayed shifting/acceleration, loud shifting, jerking, and strange noises from the vehicle and low power. There were very suspicious mechanical issues wrong with the car in which the dealership told me that there isn’t anything wrong with the car, with the understanding that if anything was ever wrong with the vehicle it has been fixed. I was ensured and promised that the car does not have anything wrong with it and that it goes through inspection and diagnostics, that the vehicle cannot be sold without being tested, fixed of any problems and brought to standard. I brought this to the attention of the salesman, owner, financial advisor, service advisor, service manager. I requested a full buyback and replacement of my 2020 CT5. My dealership let me know that they still want me to pay for the valve body, battery, ambient air temperature sensor and rear parking brake motor. I had to call Cadillac corporate/General Motors to have the valve body covered & rear bumper covered/replaced. I was brought into the dealership office and was told that the buyback and replacement was denied by General Motors even though my car was showing symptoms of a defective valve body ever since I financed the car. These things were being ignored by the dealership service department. Laggy and rough acceleration as well as shifting. Strange vibrations and noises coming from the car. Slow moving and the shifting was very jerky and abnormal. The shifting was also very loud and took long times to shift 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 gears.

ODI #11681133POWER TRAIN,WHEELS,ENGINE

Two separate issues: One is being sold a vehicle with a Certified vehicle at 12K miles with a defective, faulty transmission which is a manufacturer defect from General Motors. 10-speed automatic transmission 10L90 model. Misrepresentation of a product. False advertisement of a product. Failure to disclose. Gross negligence. Unethical & Illegal business practices. Dealer & manufacturer fraud. Second issue: When Valve body was replaced on the vehicle, the service manager of the dealership test drove the vehicle with me in the passenger seat on the highway. The vehicle was still not shifting or accelerating correctly even after the valve body replacement. The vehicle began to shake, jerk and rumble on the test drive. The vehicle drove worse. The service manager and I took the vehicle back to the dealership and he found that two of the wheels, on the passenger side, are now bent. That is how the bent wheels were discovered. Not from inspection. Previous multipoint inspection and diagnosis shows the wheels were not bent before I brought the car into the dealership for mechanical work. I can attest to the fact that my wheels were not bent before service and this obvious shaking of the car was not previously existent. The dealership denies liability for this issue and is now refusing to replace the wheels after I have offered to pay. Dealership service manager told me it was safe to drive the vehicle with two bent wheels and I strongly disagree with that statement and so has my insurance company. It is very questionable as to why the service manager would make such a statement. The dealership told me to call other GM dealerships to have the wheels replaced. They refused to do the work as well. I am seeking the proper resolution in this situation.

Regarding NHTSA Campaign ID 25V148, GM recall N242480630. The recall was for a potential transmission control valve issue where some vehicles may be susceptible to excess wear over time, resulting in gradual loss of pressure within the valve that can cause harsh shifting. With the recall we finally knew what was wrong with the vehicle. We have a defective transmission control valve. The transmission was replaced in 2022 and now needs to be replaced again. At the appointment for the recall we expressed that the transmission control valve has already caused damage and it needs to be replaced. We also requested that the damage the defective valve caused, the failing transmission, also needs to be replaced under this recall. We were told to contact Cadillac customer support at 800-333-4223 and filed a case on 5/27/25, case [XXX]. I have yet to receive a call back. I call everyday and leave a message and nobody calls back. The vehicle can not be driven and they will not provide a loaner car. Safety Concerns and Defects: I am reporting several safety-related defects in my 2020 Cadillac CT5, which have posed serious risks to me and my family: ⸻ 1. Transmission Pump Failure: •The transmission pump failed, causing loss of power and jerking while driving at highway speeds. This occurred on[XXX] in Georgia with my two small children in the car, putting us at high risk of a crash. •No warning lights appeared, and the failure was diagnosed by the dealer (Hennessey Cadillac). 2. EVAP System Failure (P0451): •A fuel tank pressure sensor malfunctioned, triggering a check engine light shortly after purchase. This affects emissions and presents a fire risk due to potential fuel vapor leaks. •The issue was confirmed by the dealer. 3. Camshaft Solenoid Failure (P0027): •A camshaft solenoid failure was repaired by the dealer, but was not disclosed to me at purchase. •This could have caused engine stalling or hesitation. ⸻ Has the Issue Been Confirmed? •Yes, all issues have been confirmed by the dealership. The vehicle has been returned for repairs, and I can provide diagnostic and repair records. ⸻ Safety Risk and Urgency: The transmission failure almost caused a serious accident on a highway. These defects present imminent safety risks that need investigation. I believe other owners may face similar issues. ⸻ Request for NHTSA Action: Please investigate these defects in the 2020 Cadillac CT5, particularly the transmission pump failure, EVAP system, and engine stalling risks. I had it serviced again in October for the same issue it was at the dealership for 20 days all they did was clear the code and drove it 38 miles, including the technician driving it home to see if the issue could be duplicated. After the 20th day they advised me to pick up my vehicle and return it when the light were actively on. I expressed to them as well as GM that I felt unsafe driving my vehicle this way as it is a great danger to my safety when the car looses power. Cameras not displaying. Backup or surround. Instead, we get a blue screen with message "service camera system). This has happened every other day or so since purchased new in March 2020. In May 2021 it would continually occur (never function correctly). Dealer had it for 2 weeks replacing different components. The radio, the video processing unit, a communication harness, 2 cameras. Finally got it back to us where it would once again work 80% of the time. Then in Feb 2023 it would continually occur again (always blue screen). Dealer had it for 2 1/2 weeks. Replaced again multiple components this time at the direction of GM corporate techs and a field engineer. Replaced coaxs, cameras, video processing unit. Finally got it back to us where it would once again work 80% of the time. Now just 5 months later, it's continually occuring again.

I have had many issues with Onstar failing. I bought the 2020 Cadillac CT5 AWD 10/2020. It took Onstar over a month to connect to my car to provide AT&T internet plan (via Onstar). On 4/22/21 I was hit in my driver front & wheel, Onstar failed- never contacted us & the airbags did not deploy. I noticed my Onstar light was red. Onstar was repaired during the body shop repair. Soon after I picked up the car (approximately 1 month) the SRS light came on & Onstar turned red again on 7/31/21. Dropped off the car to be repaired 8/13/21. After repair, SRS light came on again on 8/29/21. Then 10/4/21 the entire CUE system malfunctioned, could not use Carplay, Car Internet would not work, & Navigation would not load. 10/30/21 I cranked my car & left keys in car, the doors locked- which it should not have done. My Onstar app could not unlock the car. I called Onstar to unlock the vehicle & was told they were receiving a "busy signal, spinning sign" when trying to reach my car. My car finally shut off after idling for so long, and it unlocked the doors. I dropped off for service again 11/4/21. GM & Onstar both investigated car for the failures following the accident that occurred 4/22/21-both companies said no issue was found. GM downloaded data from wreck data, I received the report and it was missing data.

There are multiple issues with the electrical / electronics The dealer has never found any data in the systems that shows issues. Driver speedometer screen disappears and will be gone for hours or a trip. Restarting car does not fix. Center console screen that shows camera information disappears and you have no camera. Can be one or multiple trips and restarting car does not fix Dealer says the previous two issues are known but no fix or recall has have been implemented as far as we are are aware. This has been a year approx. Drivers assist package threw the car into a curb creating minor damage to divers side wheels. Cadillac found no issues in recent service. When backing car up it has engaged the parking brake When driving the car it has shifted itself into neutral. The last 3 items the dealer spent weeks going thru the car with Cadillac and found nothing. No parts have ever been replaced in multiple visits The last 3 are huge safety issues

PURCHASED MY 2020 CT5 IN APRIL 2020. SINCE THEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME SERVICE DRIVER ASSIST AND FORWARD COLLISION SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE. GM HAS DISPATCHED A SENIOR ADVISOR TO TEST THE VEHICLE AND EVEN LEFT A CODE READER IN THE VEHICLE TO TRACK ITS PERFORMANCE. MESSAGES CAME ON AGAIN. I RECORDED IT AS INSTRUCTED AND THE DEVICE WAS SENT BACK TO THE GM ENGINEERS. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH TODAY 18 SEPTEMBER AND STILL NO UPDATE AS TO WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS CAR. THEY'VE REPLACED AND REINSTALLED CAMERAS AND DEVICES AND IT STILL DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE. I GET A CALL TODAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THE RECALL CAME OUT. I'M EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED AND I KNOW THEY STILL CAN'T FIX THE ISSUE AFTER MY CAR HAS BEEN THE FIRST CASE AND GUINEA PIG OF RESEARCH. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. IT'S INTERMITTENT AND AT ANY TIME OF DAY

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING OVER 50 MPH, AND TAKES SWEEPING TURNS / GRADUAL BENDS ON THE HIGHWAY, IT BECOMES APPARENT THAT TURNING RIGHT IS MUCH HARDER THAN TURNING LEFT. THE STEERING WHEEL IS MUCH STIFFER AND FEELS HEAVIER WHEN MAKING RIGHT TURNS AT SPEED, ALMOST LIKE IT'S PERMANENTLY STUCK IN SPORT MODE WHEN THE WHEEL IS TURNED RIGHT. IT IS CONSTANTLY FIGHTING TO GET BACK TO CENTER WHEN TAKING THOSE RIGHT TURNS AT SPEED. LEFT TURNS ARE FINE. ON TWO OCCASIONS, THE WHEEL SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY JERKED LEFT, TRYING TO GET BACK TO CENTER AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN/GRADUAL BEND ON THE HIGHWAY. I ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN, AND THE OTHER TWO TIMES, ALMOST RAN SIDEWAYS INTO THE CARS TO MY LEFT. THE DEALER "CANNOT DUPLICATE" HAS NOT CHECKED ALIGNMENT, OR TAKEN OTHER STEPS TO INVESTIGATE. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, AND HAVE OWNED IT FOR LESS THAN TWO WEEKS.

Chart Analysis

The blue line shows 31 total NHTSA complaints filed over 6 years, with the worst year being 2025 (15 complaints).

The amber reliability line is declining — recent years score around 59/100, lower than earlier in the vehicle's life. This pattern indicates issues are accumulating over time rather than being resolved, which is a concern for used buyers.

The recalls (red dashed lines) followed the first complaints by 1 year — a typical response window; neither unusually fast nor a pattern of denial.

Red dots on the amber line flag 2 years (2021, 2026) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.

GM AFM/DoD Lifter Special Coverage
Engine – Active Fuel Management Lifters (5.3L / 6.2L V8)
COVERAGE:10 years / 150,000 miles from original sale date

Active Fuel Management (AFM) lifters on 5.3L EcoTec3 and 6.2L V8 engines collapse prematurely, causing a metallic ticking noise, oil consumption, and potential engine damage. GM issued Special Coverage #N202338470 and related programs for affected vehicles.

HOW TO CLAIM: Visit any authorized Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, or Cadillac dealer. Provide your VIN — the dealer will confirm coverage via GM's warranty system. Repair includes lifter replacement and sometimes oil consumption correction.

Coverage eligibility depends on your VIN, original sale date, and current mileage. Always verify with an authorized dealer or manufacturer customer service — programs may have been updated since this database was compiled.
