5 maintenance items are approaching or past their service milestones. Address these before purchase or negotiate the cost into the sale price.
No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~84,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
MONITORCriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Timing Chain Tensioner service before 120,000 mi
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
DUE SOONCriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 100,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Water Pump service before 100,000 mi
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighDifferential / Transfer Case Fluid
Service interval: 4 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Differential / Transfer Case Fluid immediately — already past the 50,000 mi / 4 yr interval
On 4WD/AWD vehicles, neglected differential or transfer case fluid causes metal-on-metal wear. Replacement costs $1,500–$4,000.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 7 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
DUE SOONModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Service interval: 100,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Spark Plugs (iridium/platinum) service before 100,000 mi
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
MONITORModerateFuel Injectors
Service interval: 120,000 mi · Est. ~84,000 mi (no odometer on record)
Schedule Fuel Injectors service before 120,000 mi
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

My 2019 Ford Ranger is equipped with the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission that experiences hard/erratic shifting (as if it can't decide what gear it wants to be in), jerking/lunging especially in 1-2 gear when making a brief stop-and-go (stop sign or a crosswalk). The first couple time it happened, it felt like I got rearended or hit a curb.

The brakes failed within hours of owning the Certified, WARRANTIED VEHICLE. ALMOST had an accident. Within <5 weeks of owning this warrantied certified vehicle, was stranded on Rine Ridge Indian Reservation and on the highway. Engine jerk so bad feels like I a derby car. Then just stalls. The dont comply with their own 172 point certified inspection. They claim two keys for specified vehicle. They gave me two 1 starts the vehicle the other errors no key in ignition when you insert into ignition. NOW I have to pay bills to get a warrantied certified vehicle repaired plus loaner car because Ford McKie k owing sold an Unsafe vehicle under deceptive pretense. Multiple engine and brake failures which was supposedly certified inspected.

Mileage is at 86980. I have been having issues for a good 10k miles that are slowly getting worse. Transmission is slamming into reverse from park. Shifting is slow from 1st to 2nd gear. Has begun revving engine but not engaging. I have had the transmission fluid changed 3x and flushed and changed the last time. No leakage or overheating. I do not drive her hard, off road or tow. She always gets warmed up before driving. My mechanic believes it is the PCM.

Rear rear leaf spring broken/cracked completely and disconnected from vehicle. The vehicle was unsafe to drive as the axle was not not connected to the vehicle on one side. The defective component was inspected by Firestone Auto and submitted and approved by SilverRock automotive for warranty replacement and is currently at a Ford Dealership completing repairs because Firestone Auto failed to complete the repair properly. There were no warning lamps or messages and it the problem was only noticeable when the vehicle was on a lift or floor jack. The incident is unknown and it the broken part was poor design/materials.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated, and the transmission was shifting hard. Additionally, the vehicle vibrated abnormally while shifting from 1st to 3rd gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the TCM was reprogrammed, and various fluids were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 951.

On friday, march 27th, 2026. My 2019 ford ranger began shaking before the engine stalled. Warning lights for an engine check came on and my vehicle would not go above 20 mph after restarting. When pressing on the accelerator the engine would rev but the vehicle would not accelerate. I took the 2019 ford Ranger to a local Ford Dealership service center and they diagnosed the following problems (listed in full below). The cooling fan was at issue and multiple wires connecting my engine to the rest of the vehicle were melted off. The ford dealership said that this issue is extremely rare and they have never seen it before. After receiving this information from the dealership I discovered that the 2019 ford ranger has had several recalls with the areas at issue in my vehicle. The recalls are under number 25V685000 (Engine block heater), and 20V137000 (Fan). Here is the full diagnosis from the ford dealership attached below: VERIFIED CUSTOMER CONCERN FOUND VEHICLE TO HAVE CEL LIGHT ON, AND MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS PERFORMED DIAG AND FOUND SHORT CIRCUIT PRESENT. TRACED SHORT FOUND COOLING FAN CLUTCH FAILED AND HARNESS RUBBING IN CLUCH ASSEMBLY FOR COOLING FAN The fan lowers the temperature of the engine. The cooling fan motor is an electric motor that turns the fan blades. When the vehicle is in traffic or under heavy load, the engine relies on the fan to cool itself. Some vehicles may use multiple electric fans for better control of the cooling system. For the most part, electric cooling fans are controlled by the same computer that controls the engine. However, in some engines, the fans are turned on and off by a temperature-sensitive switch mounted in either the radiator or elsewhere in the cooling system. The transmission failed prematurely (my point-of-view) at around 115,000 miles. A Ford dealer diagnosed and determined the transmission needed replaced. The vehicle was a 2019 Ford Ranger XL with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The transmission would get stuck in 2 gear, sometimes upshifting and sometimes downshifting. Driving highway speeds the speed needle would also drop to zero even though I was moving. They noted that solenoids were bad but replacement was needed. I had the transmission replaced with a new warrantied transmission but it was very expensive at 9,650. It did come with a 2-year warranty. That is half the value of the truck! This is the fourth Ford truck I have owned. I do use it as a truck and haul a few things around as projects dictate but do little towing, drive it reasonably, and do not take it off-roading. I have never had a transmission fail before. The Ford dealer, and three area shops, noted they see "a lot of 10-speeds" come in for transmission rebuild or replacement. As a now review many Ford forums I see many people with issues surrounding the durability of the 10-speed transmission.

ODI #11724320POWER TRAIN

Since owning the vehicle, I have experienced a range of serious transmission issues. These include harsh or delayed gear shifts, inconsistent downshifts, and transmission slipping. The vehicle also frequently jerks or lurches during gear changes. Of particular concern is the vehicle’s behavior during downshifting. At times, the transmission downshifts abruptly and causes the vehicle to lunge forward unexpectedly. This unpredictable behavior presents a significant safety concern, particularly in traffic situations where smooth and predictable vehicle response is essential. These transmission issues negatively affect the safety, drivability, and reliability of the vehicle and are not consistent with normal operation.

ODI #11724035POWER TRAIN

My transmission has failed at 131,000 miles on my vehicle. It roughly shifts into reverse and harshly shifts while in drive and the vehicle is in motion. My truck shakes while the transmission searches for gears and shifts slowly requiring extra power to move in normal operating conditions.

Vehicle has around 50K miles and driver rear leaf spring corroded and broke, review of right rear leaf spring also showed corrosion and metal thinning. Truck has no off road time nor heavy loads in bed. I had to replce both springs at my cost even though Ford is aware of the 2019-2020 Ranger spring issues and refused to replace the springs. This is a serious safety issue that places the occupants and other drivers at risk. The mechanic said he’s replaced over a dozen broken leaf springs on model years 2019 and 2020. The manufacturer is being intentionally negligent and even the dealer parts counter agreed the springs are faulty, saying they sell quite a few regularly.

ODI #11720076POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

My truck experienced a P0302 misfire on the freeway, which caused it to shake immediately and made it very difficult to drive. I had it towed to the dealership, and they told me there was water in the spark‑plug wells, which was surprising since I live in Las Vegas, NV, where it rarely rains. My spark plugs were rusted as well as the cylinder head. After looking into it online, I discovered that Ford issued TSB‑23‑2011 for the Ford Ranger due to a windshield cowl leak that allows water to drip directly onto the engine. Their proposed fix is to install an engine cover, but that clearly doesn’t solve the issue since my truck already has the engine cover installed. Now I’m stuck paying for repairs caused by a design flaw that Ford never properly addressed.

This is a known issue with the early production model of the Ranger, hence the service bulletin SSM 51313. ODI #11713793POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

The vehicle is experiencing a severe power train failure involving erratic and violent gear selection. The transmission unexpectedly jumps from 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear directly up to 7th or 8th gear, resulting in a total loss of acceleration. This is immediately followed by the transmission "slamming" down into lower gears, usually 1st or 2nd gear without driver input. This behavior is accompanied by a strong burning smell and a dashboard "wrench" warning light. The symptoms match the manufacturing defect documented in Ford TSB 24-2101 (CDF clutch drum). Diagnosis & Manufacturer Response: The issue began in October 2025 with a noticeable transmission shudder. I paid for two transmission flushes at Big O Tires to attempt to resolve the issue, but the mechanical failure has since escalated. When the "wrench" light appeared, an independent diagnostic computer was unable to retrieve an error code, as the light is a proprietary Ford powertrain indicator. Furthermore, the wrench light clears upon restarting the vehicle, despite the violent shifting and burning smell remaining. Ford Corporate agents claim there are "no known issues" and have refused to assist with towing, despite an active NHTSA Engineering Analysis (PE 24-001) regarding this exact 10R80 transmission. Safety Risk: This defect creates an extreme safety hazard. Violent downshifting into low gears at highway speeds can cause a loss of vehicle control or a rear-end collision. The burning smell indicates internal friction and fluid oxidation, posing an immediate fire risk or the potential for a catastrophic mechanical lock-up.

The transmission stutters at sustained modest speed (25-45 mph). It was taken to the dealer, who determined it was affected by tsb 25-2134. This is a widely known issue and the dealer refused any servicing without payment. This should have been a recall, since hundreds of known issues in and out of warranty have occurred.

The automatic transmission and related transmission control system malfunctioned. The vehicle experienced improper shifting and loss of gears, including a condition in which 4th gear is disabled due to a failsafe logic triggered by the transmission control module. The vehicle and all affected components are currently available for inspection upon request and are at a Ford-authorized dealership. This malfunction posed a safety risk because the vehicle was unable to shift normally or maintain consistent acceleration. The unpredictable shifting and loss of gears could create hazardous situations when merging, accelerating, or driving at highway speeds, potentially endangering the driver and others. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a Ford dealership. After inspection and diagnostic testing, the dealership advised that the transmission requires replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by a Ford-authorized dealer. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives (UNKNOWN). Prior to the failure, warning messages and drivability symptoms were present. Specifically, the transmission control module detected an issue when attempting to shift into 4th gear, triggering a failsafe mode that disabled 4th gear for the remainder of the key cycle. These symptoms appeared before the full transmission failure and progressively worsened over time.

The climate control system on my 2019 Ford Ranger has a recurring failure that prevents the vehicle from properly adjusting temperature or directing air through the vents. The failure causes a constant clicking/snapping noise behind the dashboard, and the blend door does not move when the temperature is changed. This malfunction matches Ford’s published SSM 49264, which identifies a known defect in 2019–2020 Rangers built on or before 7/30/2020 and states that the entire HVAC housing assembly must be replaced. This issue creates a safety hazard because the truck cannot reliably defrost the windshield in cold or wet weather. Loss of defrosting capability severely limits visibility and makes safe operation of the vehicle difficult. The issue is reproducible every time the temperature is adjusted. The problem began when the vehicle was still within the original mileage window of the factory warranty, but the dealership did not repair it. Ford has confirmed the malfunction is caused by the blend door system, yet they have refused goodwill coverage for a repair that requires full dash removal and replacement of a known defective part. There were no warning lights, but the clicking noise and loss of temperature control began well before the warranty expired. The vehicle continues to experience the defect, and it poses an ongoing visibility and safety risk. Ford has acknowledged this exact failure mode in writing (SSM 49264), but has not issued a recall or safety campaign.

I have had my 2019 Ford Ranger in for service to address issues with the transmission on 3 different occasions starting in Fall of 2023. Each time paying $106 for the deductible on the warranty to service a "Technical Service Bulletin" (TSB). Each time, being told of a different TSB that they would be addressing. Never addressing them all at the same time. In May of 2025, still experiencing the same/similar issues, I brought in in again only to be told that there was a TSB that they did not service, that my warranty had expired. Upon searching the internet, there are many people reporting similar issues with a similar response from Ford. Repeated failure of HVAC system, even after repairs, leads to not only a very cold truck in January in Maine, but inability to defrost the windshield and keep it defrosted. Repairs have been made in January 2025, April 2025, and now has to be repaired again in December 2025. My independent service provider who subscribes to OEM Ford subscriptions, was not made aware of an "internal" service memo until now. Neither from the subscription services or from contacts at a Ford dealer where he resourced parts and repair info. SSM 51313 indicates a different repair than was made on the previous two attempts. These repairs require the disassembly and reassembly of the instrument panel and are very expensive - especially when not apprised of correct. Now the SSM indicates a complete housing replacement to correct the defective part. See attached forms.

He stated that he is shocked that I did not wreak the truck by loosing control because it should have caused my rear to be bouncing all over. Hood/cowling along the windshield allows water to leak under the hood of the vehicle and wets the coils and plugs causing the engine to mis fire and shutter violently. This engine mis fire and sudden lack of power can cause the vehicle to obstruct the flow of traffic resulting in an accident. Problem was reproduced by the dealer and they replace coils, plugs, and installed an accessory engine cover to prevent the issue in the future. All at my cost. The problem remains that there are many Ford Rangers on the road unaware of this problem. This problem is documented in a Ford TSB but a more aggressive approaching is needed to resolve this issue.

The transmission in my truck has worked excellently with no sign of wear or degredation in performance, that was until the transmission suddenly began hesitating and slamming into gear. This is a common problem with this vehicle and is reported online incredibly frequently, while this may seem like a simple mechanical issue it did cause a completely lost of power when making a left hand turn which nearly caused me to be T-bone'd by oncoming traffic, and the hard shifting makes throttle response incredibly unpredictable. Please help us with this, there are recalls on the transmission in these trucks in multiple other countries with the chance of death as a consequence being openly stated. Me and my loved ones were almost killed because of this transmission which has widespread problems and NEEDS to be recalled before someone does lose their life. Ford has claimed this to be due to the adaptive learning software in the truck, but coincidentally has also redesigned a critical component in the transmission that causes these types issues three times now, but with zero effort to notify the customer of the risk or to openly address the problem.

This is in relation to an existing recall on the 2019 Ford Ranger, NHTSA Recall no. 19V-839 This recall was for improperly connected inline electrical connectors from the Ford factory causing issues with rear brake lamps. The 10R80 10 speed transmission in my truck has failed, due to the steel to aluminum drum being different materials it cause pre mature catastrophic failure. the damaged components resulted in needing a full overhaul/rebuild of my transmission at my full expense. my ford dealer stated there is a known tech service bulletin about this exact failure which means ford knows there's a problem but will not fix it. the resulting damage was the sun gear has failed, the drum has failed, and there are chunks missing from gears 5,6 and 7, which also resulted in needing a new valve body, and new torque converter. i opted to take my ranger to a independent shop as i no longer trusted ford to rebuild the transmission correctly and i do also have the failed components. The safety issues were losing all drive train function randomly when in operation, on several occasions this happened on the freeway at freeway speeds, or sitting in stop and go traffic and the the truck would just rev but not go anywhere, both scenarios have happened with my kids in the vehicle putting there lives in danger. Yes the problem has been confirmed by both the ford dealer and the independent transmission shop. yes i brought the parts to the ford dealer to look at, but they do remain in my possession. no, there were lights or indicators that a failure was happening, ive done all the ford recommended maintenance at the time it was due, the hard shift had always been there but i was told that's just how it was on multiple occasions. this is a known issue and i have spoken with several other 2019-2023 ford ranger owners and majority have had the exact same issues occur.

Transmission 10R80, 10 speed. Had HARD shifting, 1st to 2nd gear, excessive engine RPM in 1st gear then dropping hard into 2nd causing tire squawk. Hesitation in power after hard shift causing loss of acceleration, dangerous in heavy traffic. No warning lights and no fault codes produced. Warranty time period expired mid June 2024. Vehicle was taken to independent Certified Mechanic who verified the problems. Mechanic followed Ford Technical Bulletins to make repairs. Three separate steps in the repair process produced no favorable results. Transmission had to be removed and rebuilt with Ford factory OEM parts. Several parts replaced were of new design, indicating Ford knows of the problems and is attempting to redesign the transmission, but NOT supporting customers out of warranty. Since this was our only vehicle a rental was needed for two weeks while the repair process was followed per Ford Technical Bulletins. Total cost of repairs $7301.82 for vehicle 2 months out of warranty with less than 53000 miles. Also having problems with the Sync System that the dealership also refused to even test at no charge. I took this vehicle in on 5-19-2020 for recall (19543/NSTSA Recall 19V-839). Local dealership removed skid plate, inspection/pass. Over the next 3 yrs. the p/u was taken in because of battery drainage & then battery replacement. May 2024 it was taken in as all the rear lights stopped working (exactly what was stated in the recall letter would happen). Was told at the time that the topper, which a very reputable dealer put on, did the wiring wrong so I was charged over $1300 for repairing the wiring. The topper was put on in 2019, recall was 2020, and nothing was found then. An inspection was done and not replacement of rear lights wiring. I came very close to several rear-end collisions as I hadn't realized no rear lights in May 2024. Now, I'm getting "System Off to save battery. Please turn ignition off or start engine" again on the console. I've contacted Ford at Dearborn and was referred back to local dealership and they have given me the run around. I was in a week and half ago to show them all the paperwork, was told they'd look it over and give me a call. I've heard nothing. I'm upset that the recall work wasn't done in 2020 but had to pay for the same work to be done in 2024. Since the work done in May 2024 really didn't handle the battery being drained, I'd like a new pickup as this one seems to be a lemon, or the dealership isn't doing what they said they did. I have paperwork, but it wouldn't scan onto document.

In the past 3 months, my 2019 Ford ranger has had a multitude of issues come up all at once. First, my transmission destroyed a gear and needed to be rebuilt. Next was an engine misfire code that Ford detected, and ended up being spark plugs at 66k miles. The current issue is that my fan clutch failed, causing it to rip off the wiring harness that was nearby that led to the oil pressure sensor. This caused an instant loss in power on the highway and almost caused an accident. This truck has been given servicing on every mileage checkpoint that it was suppose to.

Apparently the heater box in the 2019 Ranger is prone to warping. This leads to malfunctions in the heat/ac in the cabin. They tell me if I don’t get it replaced I could wind up getting ac instead of heat. This would be a real problem in winter weather, as I may not be able to keep the windshield clear without heat. I saw many complaints about this happening to owners of the 2019 Ford Ranger. The fix is to remove the dashboard to install a new box at a cost of 2200.00, according to the Ford dealership I bought the truck from.

There is insufficient shielding to prevent water from reaching the top of the engine. This results in water dripping on the coil packs and also entering the spark plug wells, causing loss of spark and reduced engine output. Over time, this issue also leads to rust in the engine head, potentially resulting in engine failure. Additionally, water can reach the EGR DPFE sensor, causing the engine to hesitate and shutter at various speeds. Both of these issues together cause a misfire when applying the accelerator and will cause the vehicle to initially hesitate then surge forward. Even with the engine cover, the venting at the base of the windshield allows water to drip down on the engine head, causing the above issues. Ford does recognize that there is an issue and have written several TSBs on the it.

The check engine light illuminated after leaving residence and traveling less than 5 miles. Had the vehicle check by a certified ASE mechanic, He stated that my vehicle had a misfire code (PO300), if it was a PO301 OR PO302 or etc, it would indicate a specific coil was misfiring, but the PO300 is a general misfire code. Vehicle is jerking, pulling, bogging down as if doesn't want to go forward or is losing power, mechanic changed the spark pulls the first time thinking it was time due to mileage of the vehicle, and cleared the code. One week later check engine light is back on with the same PO300 code, he says we can try changing the coils next to see if this fixes the problem. I called my local ford dealer, who says the will charge me $167 dollars to diagnose the problem, and tell me whats wrong. After I have already told them what the problem is and what the code is for the problem. Which is the same code i got from my $40 code reader is the same code he got from his $1500 code reader, so what can the tell me for $ 167 that i dont already know and have told them, and from further research on recalls for this vehicle, I have found that they already know this problem exist. 2019 Ford Rangers were shipped without an engine cover to protect the engine from water intrusion.  This, along with the design of the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield being a 2 piece design with a seam directly over the engine bay, allows water to drain into the engine bay during periods of heavy rain. Water will drain from the windshield into the top of the engine, and begin filling the spark plug wells under the ignition coil boots and into the engine head.  This water intrusion can cause engine misfire codes as well as a loss of power while driving, and on multiple instances while merging into traffic, the engine would bog down.  It wasn't until the most recent occurrence that a check engine light came on.  I immediately pulled into a shop and they found the plug wells were rusted, corroded and full of water from this happening since the day it rolled off the lot in 2019.  I have had an independent mechanic assess the damage as well as had the vehicle towed to a local Ford dealer and they found the same condition- with the only solution to replace the engine head as they are unable to remove the plugs due to the damage caused by the water intrusion. An owner should not have to be concerned with parking or driving a vehicle in the rain and whether it will suddenly lose power while driving at highway speeds.  This is a safety issue that Ford should be forced to take care of.  They are aware of the issue and have been as they have issued multiple service bulletins with a solution for misfires to change plugs and install an engine cover.  An engine cover has no bearing on an engine misfire but it shows Ford knows water is getting into engines and causing these problems. Engine/plugs/coils failed, it is available for inspection. Mine and public safety was at risk when driving as it lost power merging into traffic.   Problem has been confirmed by dealer and independent mechanic.   Last instance (2/9/24) was first time a CEL came on while driving

My seat belt buckle stopped working (part number KB3Z-2161203-AB) and despite the fact that my truck is less than 5 years old and has less than 60K miles on it Ford's service system says this part is not covered under the 5 year 60K mile Safety Restraint System nor the Premium Care extended warranties I have on the truck. Documentation for the warranties suggests it does but the system the Ford service techs use says no. When I've escalated to Customer Care, they claim "there is nothing they can do." Ford Protect (warranty department) says the same thing. A helpful Ford tech on the internet claims he looked into it and says the problem is that the Ford service system has the part misclassified as a "trim" part and not a "safety" part so it only recognizes it as something covered by the 3 year 36K mile bumper to bumper warranty. When I pressed and they sent me to Ford Financial Assistance for a "Goodwill Repair" I was told they would only cover 40%. I have presented pictures to Ford of their own warranty documentation that clearly states the seat belt buckles are covered and they repeatedly have pushed back saying "there is nothing we can do, it's denied." Bringing it to your attention in the hopes you can help me find the right folks at Ford to remedy this issue as anyone who has a Ford with this same base part number (2161203) is going to have this problem. I'm attaching a copy of the Ford Warranty Safety Section and a copy of the online listing for the Seat Belt Buckle.

My 2019 Ford Ranger for around 9 months occasionally has a significant loss of power and acceleration from 2nd to 3rd gear. It has become dangerous to drive due to the aforementioned. My vehicle has 54019 and is under the factory power train warranty still. The dealership told me that water had entered the EGR and damaged the sensor. They already knew by their diagnostics test it wasn’t a negligence based issue. The dealership told me at least 5 other Ford Rangers have come in with the same problem and Ford will not recall it even tho they know it’s an issue. I called Ford customer satisfaction. They stated although they say powertrain and related parts in their factory warranty and this is affecting the transmission they could not get authorization to fix the known issue. I was driving over a bridge at 65 mph on a foggy morning a couple weeks ago and my windshield fogged over. I turned on the defroster and it only blew cold air. I could not see and I couldn't clear it. I had to slow down and find a safe spot to pull over. I had to try to wipe down the windshield and then start driving. It did it again and i had to pull over again and wipe and wait for it to clear to be able to drive. It was foggy the next morning and I had to do the same thing all over again. I stopped by a ford dealer and spoke to someone. He told me, oh yeah we know all about it and so does ford. The ac heater chamber in the dash breaks. Costs about 2 grand to fix. All the new rangers do it. This is a safety defect and needs to be recalled by ford. Thank you.

My Vehicle transmission skips second gear going from gear 1 to gear 3 when accelerating from a stopped position. Issue cause jerking and a clunk when gear catches. When this happens, vehicle will temporarily stall until gear catches putting driver and passengers at risk of collision if turning at intersection, proceeding through 2-way stop intersection, or on hills/ on train tracks. My vehicle has never displayed warning lights on the dash. I had the vehicle inspected at a Ford Dealer. Dealership was able to replicate the issue. Owner, who had bought the truck new approx. 3 1/2 years earlier, had driven about three miles on dry, paved, residential, hilly, roads and was returning to where he was staying when he came upon a waiting line of cars. He turned around to go a different way. Coming to a slight curve the power steering (EPAS) went out. Struggling to make the curve, the power assist kicked in and jolted him off the right side of the road. Had the curve been to the left, the truck may have been thrust into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Owner then slowly soldiered on, with the truck making an intermittent noise as if trying to activate the power steering, which it sometimes did, causing the truck to swerve side to side. Owner did not mention any warning sign or alarm or message occurring during this episode. At his destination he called for help and the truck was towed to the dealer. The repair order (RO) indicates diagnostics first being done on 6-8-23, which verified the lack of power steering, and showed DTCs C1B00, U0415, and U3003. My research showed the first pertains to a steering angle sensor in the steering column, and the next two having to do with the ABS. The tech notes indicate he did pinpoint test BC1 (NO), BC2 (YES), and BC3 (YES). Next, the tech reported that the steering gear assembly had a malfunction and needed to be replaced. He added that he retrieved RVC code RA5VUMN131GXQ. Not having the steering gear assembly KB3Z3504A in stock, the replacement was not made until July. The RO said nothing about the battery, but it was learned that it had also been replaced under separate RO, which dealer has yet to provide. The dealer service rep said that even after they charged the old battery, it did not have enough power to activate an essential component; probably the new part, but I can't recall for sure. With the new battery, the DTCs, none of which I believe went to the steering gear, disappeared and the power steering apparently works. Truck is still with dealer.

See related steering problem report. After Electronic Power Steering Assist went out on vehicle without warning of any kind to owner, dealer's service department diagnostics as best as I can determine did NOT indicate a problem with the parts that were replaced. The parts replaced were: 1. steering gear/rack and pinion/EPAS (which seems to go by various names), and, when installing this new, expensive, and long-in-coming part didn't get the power steering to work, 2. the battery. The scenario suggests that the root problem was the battery, not the steering gear. A representative of another dealer has advised that the first thing they check in cases involving electronic components is the battery. He also advised that Ford does not have a standard operating procedure or service bulletin that says this is something that is to be done. Can this be? Apparently, at least for this vehicle, there was/is no system to check for adequate battery voltage or to warn that electronic components like the power steering may fail if the battery is not replaced. If my research results are correct, the Diagnostic Trouble Codes the Ford dealer repair tech found went to a steering angle sensor in the steering column, and things having to do with the anti-lock brake system. They weren't fixed, but the codes disappeared after the new battery was installed. The diagnostic tools seem to give more misdirection than direction. With so many critical electrical components in today's vehicles, the warning and diagnostic systems seem woefully inadequate. I have read about Fords limiting battery recharging to about 75% and have noted that one of the DTCs involved here, U3003, sets on-demand if the voltage supplies to the ABS module falls below 10 volts. I'm a layman, but these things suggest to me that some of the electronic components require substantial minimum operating voltage which an older battery would not supply, and the recharging cap could exacerbate the problem.

The actuator motor is not working. This is a common complaint of the 2019 Ford Ranger and is noted in Ford's SSM 49264. It looks like on some 2019 Ford Rangers (mine included), there is a faulty blend door in the heater box assembly. Note this issue is not present in other model years due to Ford correcting the defective part. This defective part causes the switch between hot and cold air to fail. My truck got stuck on hot and the dealer replaced it under warranty. The replacement has now failed 6 months (3000) miles later. This issue can prevent the heat from functioning properly in cold weather, which means the defrost is ineffective - requiring the driver to manually clear the windshield. The issue is that Ford A) knows there is a defect that can impact the safe operation of the vehicle B) These vehicles would likely be covered under the manufacturer warranty due to low miles from 2020 (COVID) but has not made efforts to notify owners of the defect C) will gladly charge $3,000-$4,000 for this repair once the warranty expires (which has happened for many 2019 vehicles by this point). I then had to continue my drive by wiping my windshield from the inside with a rag every 15 seconds or so to maintain visibility enough to drive. As the snow was coming down and it was getting dark, I needed to keep going as it would have been too cold to stay in the vehicle and wait out the storm. The sensor is designed in a way where it inserts into the axle and sits close enough to the gears that it can be hit by the gears during bumps/potholes/etc. The issue puts myself and others at risk as when the sensor malfunctions or breaks, it disables multiple safety features of the truck including: Antilock brakes, traction control, power steering, hill assist, and collision avoidance system. Other systems affected include cruise control. The problem has been reproduced with three separate speed sensors, two OEM sensors and one after market. I have had the vehicle inspected by a Ford dealership for the issue. Issues prior to the first replaced sensor was the sensors have issues with cold climate. When snow or ice is on the roadway, the sensors have issues and disable all the above features. Appears the design cannot withstand the cold weather.

As I was driving down the road I began I started to smell something unusual - in a way it smelled like burning plastic and/or anti-freeze. I then began to feel quite a bit more heat than usual on my lower back, so much I knew something was wrong. I pulled my truck over, got out and as soon as I got out my heated seat started producing smoke where I believe the main heated seat coil is. Within seconds a flame burst out from the seat. I luckily had a drink in my cup holder that I reached over to grab & pour out on the flame. It kept smoking after I dumped the liquid on it. I then grabbed a water bottle from my back seat & was able to put the fire out completely. In conclusion, my 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat Crew Cab heated seat caught fire while it was turned on, on 9/15/2022 at approx. 9:00a.

The 10r80 10 speed Transmission will slip, shutter, stall, jump in and out of gear, slam into gear, and often times will wait till you are at a complete stop to downshift into 1st gear which makes the entire truck lunge forward almost like you’ve been rear ended. I’ve been to 2 different ford dealerships, had my truck in the shop multiple times and all I hear is them telling me that it’s normal and they get these complaints a lot. Long Lewis ford of prattville Alabama will play dumb and hold my truck in their parking lot for a few days then say they found nothing wrong. Collier ford of wetumpka Alabama told me over the phone that the symptoms I’m experiencing are normal and they they will not touch my truck unless it has a wrench light on. A $36,000 truck should not have these issues and it be deemed “normal” or even “acceptable”.

ODI #11452789FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

This is not the first time, but I will randomly get a collision warning while I am driving my car. The last incident happened on a 2 lane road with no traffic within visible distance in front of me. It was early in the morning with the sun ahead of the vehicle (approx 7am) and the collision warning indicator came on for no reason. This has happened before. Another incident occurred when I was turning right onto an on ramp and there was a car traveling next to me (who would continue straight) and the warning was going off for no reason. These incidents are extremely dangerous as the flashing and chiming from the alert system is very distracting and causes someone to react to this as opposed to focusing on driving the vehicle. For some people this could lead to a crash by itself as there is no training on what your vehicle will do in one of these situations (ie, like a push to test in an aircraft to know what is making the noise).

I was slowly pulling forward, parking my vehicle. I pressed the brakes and they did not engage. I pumped my brakes and my foot was down to the floor with no brake activity and an involuntary acceleration occurred causing me to crash into a brick wall. Fortunately, I was the only person injured in the crash. The police were called and my vehicle was towed to be repaired. It was inspected by my insurance company. I called Ford several times to ask that the vehicle be inspected by a Ford investigator to determine why the brakes failed and the involuntary acceleration occurred. They misdirected me at least 10 times. I informed that there were 12 reports of the identical problem happening to other 2019 Ford Ranger owners. They ignored my requests. Upon recommendation by Ford Customer Service, my car was towed from a body shop to a Ford dealer where they informed by that there was at least one instance that the diagnostics showed a sensor failure. At no time did any warning light appear on my dash signaling me there was an issue of a sensor failure. In spite of this problem, Ford continues to ignore my request for an inspection of the vehicle. I went to a Doctor as I had a very bad headache and pain throughout my body. I had a concussion and soft tissue damage along my right side, both hands and elbows.

Possible Drivers side seat belt problem on 2019 Ford Ranger. Incident occurred on Monday 12/20/202, ABOUT 9:20 AM. After rounding a corner at low speed I hit a patch of ice and, spinning about 90 degrees, ran head on into a very tall power pole, anchored to its concrete base with many very large bolts. This stopped me. No damage to the post. Air bags did not deploy, but I was thrust forward, hitting the steering wheel hard. I bruised my chest, not visibly, in the sternum area. I think my seat belt must have failed. The force on the belt ripped the plastic paneling covering it from the sidewalls. My truck is now in the body shop being evaluated. I pointed out the seat belt problem and they said they can give me a new one if there is a problem.

I have only had this vehicle for about 5 months. When the start stop feature is off the vehicle still acts as if its on. I have read blogs of many people having similar transmission issues. The spare tire is held tight against the under body of the pickup bed with a chain crank. The gear mechanism that raises and lowers the tire slowly released the tire to the point that edge of the tire (presumably due to bumps in the road) contacted the pavement. The tire became almost vertical and at a right angle to the direction of the vehicle. An estimated 4 miles was drive before the driver became aware of the problem when an observant motorcyclist motioned the vehicle over. The tire was very hot where it contacted the pavement but had not yet ignited. The tire was roped to the frame to keep it off the pavement to safely drive to a service center. The photo of the tire under the truck shows its approximate position during the incident. The actual position was almost vertical. The photo of the tire chain clamp bracket shows it's position without the tire. The crank mechanism was damaged to the point that the chain could not raise or lower the bracket. A tire fire would have resulted if the vehicle was driven much further. The manufacturer will be contacted.

ON WEDNESDAY OCT. 14, 2020 ON A TRIP FROM GAINESVILLE, GA TO PENSACOLA, FL I EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT I WOULD CLASSIFY AS POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE (I-85), I USED THE CRUISE CONTROL SEVERAL TIMES AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 60 -70 MPH. IN MONTGOMERY, AL, I EXITED OFF THE INTERSTATE AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ACCELERATION INCREASED WHERE I HAD TO PUT MAXIMUM PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES TO PREVENT THE TRUCK FROM CRASHING INTO PASSING TRAFFIC. I THEN MOVED THE SELECT SHIFT FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND THEN TO PARK, WHICH STOPPED THE ACCELERATION. THE ACCELERATION WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE REAR WHEELS WERE SPINNING. AGAIN WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE MORE ON OUR WAY TO PENSACOLA AT VARIOUS STOP LIGHTS. THAT DAY I HAD NOT YET DETERMINED THAT THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE OPERATION OF CRUISE CONTROL. THE NEXT MORNING THURSDAY, OCT. 15, I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO WORLD FORD IN PENSACOLA, FL. FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOOK THE TRUCK OUT ON THE HIGHWAY BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHEN HE USED THE DIAGNOSIS MACHINE HE DETECTED A GLITCH IN TEST A4 WHICH INDICATED AN INTERMITTENT INOPERATIVE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH. HE WAS NOT 100% SURE THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM BUT HE CHANGED THE SWITCH. HE WAS VERY CONCERNED OF THE POTENTIAL SERIOUSNESS OF THE SITUATION. WE NEVER HAD ANOTHER ISSUE WHILE IN PENSACOLA OR ON THE WAY HOME, BUT I NEVER TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, AS MY CONFIDENCE LEVEL WAS STILL VERY LOW.

LEASED THE RANGER IN OCTOBER OF 2019. FROM THEN UNTIL NOW THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 6 INSTANCES WHERE THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER HAS BEEN PLACED IN PARK, BUT THE TRUCK HAS FREELY ROLLED AWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN MY DRIVEWAY, WHILE PARKED ON A BUSY STREET, IN A CROWDED PARKING GARAGE IN DENVER, AND A COUPLE OF OTHER PLACES. I'VE BEEN LUCKY EACH TIME IT ROLLED AWAY IN AN AREA CROWDED WITH PEDESTRIANS OR TRAFFIC HEAVY BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND JUMP BACK IN AND PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WITHOUT SOMEONE GETTING RUN OVER. IN THE PARKING GARAGE A FRIEND OF MINE WOULD HAVE BEEN PINNED BETWEEN THE TRUCK AND A CONCRETE WALL IF SHE HAD BEEN JUST ONE SECOND SLOWER WALKING AROUND THE TRUCK. WE HAD JUST PARKED AND WERE GOING TO WALK TO THE ELEVATOR AND WERE TOO BUSY TALKING TO NOTICE THE TRUCK WAS ROLLING TOWARD US. RIGHT AFTER SHE WAS OUT OF THE PATH WE HEARD SOMETHING BEHIND US AND TURNED TO SEE IT HAD HIT THE WALL, ABOUT 3 INCHES AWAY FROM THE BACK OF HER LEGS. I'VE TAKEN THE TRUCK INTO 2 DEALERSHIPS TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS WITNESSES THAT HAVE SEEN ME PLACE THE TRUCK IN PARK, ONLY TO HAVE IT MOVE ON ITS OWN, BUT LUTHER FAMILY FORD IN FARGO, ND AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER CARE HAVE TOLD ME THAT THEY DO NOT ACCEPT WITNESS ACCOUNTS FOR ANY ISSUE ON THEIR VEHICLES. THEY HAVE SAID THAT IF A WARNING LIGHT DOESN'T ILLUMINATE OR AN ERROR CODE ISN'T RECORDED IN THE DIAGNOSTICS THEN A PROBLEM DOES NOT EXIST. BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND MAY END UP KILLING SOMEONE THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS. I'M A DISABLED VETERAN AND HAVE SOME MOBILITY ISSUES, THE NEXT TIME I MAY NOT BE FAST ENOUGH TO GET TO THE TRUCK TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, OR I MAY NOT BE FAST ENOUGH TO MOVE IF I'M IN THE PATH OF THE TRUCK , AND THEN I'LL BE THE ONE CRUSHED UNDERNEATH THE RUNAWAY POS.

I CALLED FORD AND THEY WERE LIKE WE CAN GET YOU IN NEXT TUESDAY . I BROUGHT IT IN THE NEXT MORNING AND SAID THIS IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL BUT INFORMED ME FORD NOW HAS MORE STRINGENT TESTS THAT WOULD PREVENT THIS. THOUSANDS OF TINY SPECS IN WINDSHIELD OBSCURE VISIBILITY IN CERTAIN LIGHT - MORNING, LATE AFTERNOON. HAPPENS SUDDENLY AND COULD CAUSE INABILITY TO SEE INCOMING CAR OR PEDESTRIAN, BICYCLES!! VERY FRIGHTENING. RESEARCH ONLINE REVEALS MANY HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH WINDSHIELDS. THIS IS A BRAND NEW TRUCK. I BELIEVE IT IS A DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELD ON THIS VEHICLE AND OTHERS. COULD CAUSE LOSS OF LIFE AS VISIBILITY IS GREATLY REDUCED AND IT HAPPENS SUDDENLY IN THE LIGHT CONDITIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE DURING ROUTINE DRIVING. THESE SPECKS CAN ALSO BE SEEN WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY IN THE CONDITIONS NOTED. IT IS ESPECIALLY FRIGHTENING IF IT HAPPENS IN AN INTERSECTION, WHILE TURNING, ETC.

WE BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2019 FORD RANGER FROM EPIC FORD AND AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR OUR FORD APP SAID WE HAD A RECALL. WE ASKED THE SALES PEOPLE ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID WE NEEDED TO COME BACK THE NEXT DAY TO GET IT FIXED AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE A FEW MINUTES. WE THEN WERE TOLD THE PART WOULD BE IN THE NEXT DAY AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL US. THEN WE WERE TOLD THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THAT IT WOULD BE A WEEK. I CALLED SERVICE TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY UPDATE AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE PART WOULD NOT BE IN FOR UP TO A MONTH AND THAT WE COULD NOT TAKE THE TRUCK TO DRIVE IN THE MEAN TIME BECAUSE IT COULD LIGHT ON FIRE. (AND THIS WAS AFTER THEY LET US LEAVE THE LOT WITH THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT HOME WITH OUR TWO WEEK OLD INFANT) THE SERVICE TOLD US THEY WOULD KEEP US UPDATED WEEKLY. WE WENT INTO FORD A FEW DAYS LATER TO TALK TO THE GENERAL MANAGER SO WE COULD GET SOME ANSWERS. I WAS LIED TO AND TALKED TO SOMEONE WHO TOLD ME THEY WERE THE MANAGER BUT AFTER MENTIONING LEGALITIES HE ADMITTED TO NOT BEING THE MANAGER. THE GENERAL MANAGER CAME IN AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO BUT THAT HE COULD PAY OUR FIRST BILL AND GIVE US A LONER AND THAT HE WOULD CONTACT ME FOR UPDATES. HE THEN IGNORED MY CALLS AND EMAILS ABOUT OUR FIRST BILL AND WOULD NOT GIVE ME AN UPDATE. AFTER A MONTH I CALLED SERVICE AND ASKED FOR AN UPDATE, SHE SAID THAT THE GENERAL MANAGER GAVE HER SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS TO NOT CONTACT US AT ALL. WE CONTINUED TO WAIT FOR THE PART AND MORE THAN TWO MONTHS WENT BY AND WE FINALLY GOT THE CALL WE COULD COME GET OUR TRUCK. THEY ILLEGALLY SOLD US A NEW CAR WITH AN ACTIVE RECALL AND LIED TO US THE ENTIRE TIME, AVOIDING THE TRUTH AND DID THE LITTLEST POSSIBLE FOR US TO TRY AND MAKE IT RIGHT.

SOMETIMES TRUCK STAYS IN GEAR AFTER SHIFTING INTO PARK. HAS ROLLED FORWARD AFTER I EXITED THE VEHICLE. LANE KEEP ASSIST HAS MISJUDGED LANE & TURNED THE WHEELS SHARPLY CAUSING UNWANTED LANE CHANGE. PRE COLLISION WARNING OFTEN SOUNDS ALARMS & SHOWS VISUAL WARNINGS WITH NO TRAFFIC NEARBY, THE SYSTEM HAS EMERGENCY BRAKING & I'M AFRAID OF IT APPLYING BRAKES WHEN I'M ON THE INTERSTATE. CRASH DETECTED AUDIBLE & VISUAL WARNINGS OFTEN APPEAR WHEN THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A CRASH. DRIVER'S DOOR MIRROR IS NOT SECURE, VIBRATES/RATTLES WHEN TRUCK IS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. FRONT & REAR DIFFERENTIALS MAKE GRINDING NOISES & FRONT END JUMPS, WHEELS LOCK UP WHEN USING 4X4L. DOES NOT ALWAYS SHIFT INTO 4X4H. VEHICLE HAS OVERHEATED & STALLED WHILE IN TRAFFIC. PEDESTRIAN DETECTION SYSTEM IS NON-FUNCTIONAL. A MAN STEPPED OFF THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF MY TRUCK ON MONDAY, JAN 06 2020, I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 15-20 MPH. LUCKILY I SAW HIM IN TIME AND PUT THE BRAKES ON, WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THE MAN WAS A MERE 2" FROM THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK & WE WERE BOTH EXTREMELY SHAKEN. HAD I APPLIED THE BRAKES 1 SECOND LATER THE MAN WOULD BE DEAD. THE PEDESTRIAN DETECTION SYSTEM NEVER ALERTED ME TO THE PEDESTRIAN WITH ANY TYPE OF WARNING, AUDIBLE OR VISUAL. THE SYSTEM NEVER ASSISTED WITH EMERGENCY BRAKING AS A RESULT. THE PARKING & CROSS TRAFFIC SENSORS RARELY WORK CORRECTLY, ALMOST NEVER DETECT CROSS TRAFFIC WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I CAN PULL UP TO A VEHICLE, WITH MY FRONT LICENSE PLATE TOUCHING THE RECEIVER BAR ON THE HITCH OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BEFORE THE SENSORS DETECT THE VEHICLE. AS A DISABLED VETERAN I'M MORE CAUTIOUS THAN MOST, BUT ALL OF THESE ISSUES, OF WHICH THERE ARE MORE, MAKE THIS TRUCK A SEVERE HAZARD, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. THE TRUCK WILL DISPLAY A WARNING ON THE DASH AS WELL AS MAKE AUDIBLE WARNINGS SAYING THAT A CAMERA IN THE GRILLE IS BLOCKED OR MALFUNCTIONING. ANOTHER WARNING THAT ALSO HAPPENS A LOT IS SOMETHING SAYING THAT A CRASH HAS BEEN DETECTED, IT HAS LOUD CHIMES THAT GO OFF AS WELL AS A FLASHING RED DISPLAY ON DASH. THE PRE COLLISION WARNING ALSO FREQUENTLY ALERTS WITH VISUAL AND AUDIBLE WARNINGS. ALL OF THESE WILL HAPPEN AT ANY RANDOM TIME, AND OF ALL THE COUPLE DOZEN TIMES THESE WARNINGS HAVE HAPPENED THERE HASN'T BEEN A SINGLE TIME THAT THERE WAS ANY TRAFFIC NEARBY, NOR WAS THERE ANYTHING BLOCKING ANY CAMERA OR SENSOR. THE VEHICLE IS BARELY MORE THAN A MONTH OLD AND HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES TO FIX BODY ALIGNMENT ISSUES AND PROGRAMMING ISSUES WITH THE ECU, PCM AND TCU. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THE PRE COLLISION SYSTEM ONLY WORKS IF YOU ALSO HAVE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH MY TRUCK DOES NOT. THEY SAID THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THE SYSTEM TO GET IT TO STOP GIVING FALSE WARNINGS UNLESS THEY ADD THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE AND OTHER COMPONENTS. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO ADD THE ADDITIONAL PARTS AND ALSO REFUSING TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE WITH ONE THAT DOES. THEY TOLD ME FORD IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND ADMITS THAT A FALSE WARNING MAY ACTIVATE THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON ITS OWN, WHICH CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, BUT THEY STATED THAT FORD WILL NOT PAY CORRECT THE ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THEIR FAULTY, AND DANGEROUS, COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM. THEY NEED TO INSTALL ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL IN VEHICLES WITHOUT IF THAT'S ALL IT WOULD TAKE TO FIX THE ISSUE AND MAKE VEHICLES SAFE TO DRIVE.

ODI #11287662FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

EXTREME FUEL DILUTION IN THE OIL. LIKELY FROM LEAKING HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE ATTACHED THE RESULTS FROM OIL ANALYSIS AT 1860 MILES. THE TEST ONLY INDICATES THAT FUEL DILUTION IS ABOVE 5%, WHICH ITSELF LEADS TO SEVERE OIL DEGRADATION. WHEN I CHANGED THE OIL, I DRAINED 7.5 QUARTS OUT OF AN ENGINE WITH A 6.2 QUART CAPACITY. THIS WOULD INDICATE A 21% FUEL DILUTION, NOT INCLUDING FUEL THAT HAS EVAPORATED FROM THE CRANKCASE AND RETURNED TO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER VIA THE PCV SYSTEM. IF I ABIDED BY THE MANUAL'S RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE INTERVAL, I HAVE LITTLE DOUBT THE ENGINE WOULD EVENTUALLY CATCH FIRE, BASED ON THE RESULTS OF SEVERAL TESTS COMPARING FUEL DILUTION TO AN OIL'S FLASHPOINT. AFTER CHANGING THE OIL, IT SMELLED FINE FOR THE FIRST 20 MILES OR SO. AFTER THAT, THE OIL BEGAN TO FEEL OF GASOLINE AGAIN. AFTER GOING THROUGH FORD'S SERVICE MANUALS, I HAVE ASCERTAINED THAT THE PROBLEM MUST LIE IN THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. IT RUNS OFF THE CAMSHAFT, WHERE LEAKING FUEL COULD THEN MAKE IT INTO THE ENGINE AND MIX WITH OIL. THERE WOULD BE NO WARNING OR INDICATION, BESIDES RISING OIL LEVELS ACCOMPANIED BY THE SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE OIL. IT DOES NOT MAKE ME HAPPY THAT MY DEALER IS NOT TAKING THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE A FUEL LEAK OF ANY KIND ALWAYS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO LEAD TO A FIRE OR EXPLOSION IN THE HOT ENGINE BAY. I PAID OVER $40K FOR THIS TRUCK, AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 500 MILES TO KEEP IT FROM SELF DESTRUCTING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP IN THE RESOLUTION OF THIS ISSUE. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY FAMILY IN THIS VEHICLE, AND FORD HAS REPEATEDLY CHOSEN NOT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. I FIRST DETECTED THE ISSUE ON OCTOBER 20TH, BUT I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT IT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE TRUCK ROLLED OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON AUGUST 30TH OF THIS YEAR.
