Critical Deferred Risk
Critical deferred failure risk — 4 safety-critical or high-cost components are past their service interval. Without immediate attention, repair costs will compound significantly.
No odometer data on record. Mileage is estimated at ~132,000 mi based on average annual driving. Items marked EST. OVERDUE may already be due — verify service history with the seller. Items marked OVERDUE are confirmed past-due based on vehicle age alone.
EST. OVERDUECriticalTiming Chain Tensioner
Service interval: 10 yr · Vehicle age: 11 yr · Past due by age
Service Timing Chain Tensioner immediately — already past the 120,000 mi / 10 yr interval
Worn chain tensioners cause timing chain skip or snap — common on GM 5.3L/6.2L, Ford EcoBoost, VW/Audi EA888, BMW N47/N63. Listen for cold-start rattles.
EST. OVERDUECriticalWater Pump
Service interval: 8 yr · Vehicle age: 11 yr · Past due by age
Service Water Pump immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 8 yr interval
Water pump failure causes rapid overheating. If the engine overheats even once, head gasket damage is likely — turning a $400 part into a $3,000+ repair.
EST. OVERDUEHighTransmission Fluid / Service
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 11 yr · Past due by age
Service Transmission Fluid / Service immediately — already past the 60,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded transmission fluid destroys clutch packs and solenoids. CVT transmissions are especially sensitive — neglected fluid can result in a $4,000–$8,000 replacement.
EST. OVERDUEHighCoolant Flush
Service interval: 5 yr · Vehicle age: 11 yr · Past due by age
Service Coolant Flush immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 5 yr interval
Degraded coolant loses corrosion inhibitors and attacks aluminum engine components. Can cause head gasket failure and water pump corrosion.
EST. OVERDUEModerateSpark Plugs (iridium/platinum)
Service interval: 8 yr · Vehicle age: 11 yr · Past due by age
Service Spark Plugs (iridium/platinum) immediately — already past the 100,000 mi / 8 yr interval
Worn spark plugs cause misfires that can foul and crack catalytic converters. A $150 tune-up can prevent a $1,200 catalytic converter replacement.
EST. OVERDUEModerateFuel Injectors
Service interval: 10 yr · Vehicle age: 11 yr · Past due by age
Service Fuel Injectors immediately — already past the 120,000 mi / 10 yr interval
Dirty or failing injectors cause rough idle, reduced fuel economy, and increased emissions. Cleaning costs $100–$200; replacement $800–$1,600.

Issue I’m having with my 2015 Ford expedition Limited, is on multiple occasions when I’m at highway speeds my vehicle downshifts and decelerates. While im driving through the city streets, my vehicle downshifts randomly and does not upshift. On these occasions I’ve had to safely pull over and turn my vehicle off and on. Doing so resolves the problem for about 10 miles, and then back to the same issue.

Purchased 12/2023 2015 Ford Expedition April of 2024 we began to have issues with the Sync System and Climate Control. We took it back to the original dealer and a second Ford dealer and neither was able to diagnose the issue. As they could not get it to duplicate while there. However it has happened numerous times since. The symptoms seem to have no rhyme or reason as to when they will happen, but they do follow the same pattern each time. The Sync screen will turn itself off completely and randomly. Screen goes Black System shuts down as if the power button was pushed. When you do push the power button to turn the system back on the temperature display in the left hand corner will no longer be displayed. This is the indication the system is still not working properly. The Air Conditioner will then turn itself off. Then the blower will switch to defrost and high heat, all in its own. You cannot adjust the setting or turn the heat off. It continues to blow on high heat in defrost mode until it decides to switch back to AC. This could last 2 seconds could be 20 minutes It will also read the gas gauge wrong, registering 20 miles left of gas even if you just filled up. This has all happened in the summer months causing extreme heat in the vehicle even with all the windows down. We replaced the Blower motor resistor and its wiring harness. Checked the blower at the same time, it is running smoothly. We also replaced the relay #3 responsible for climate control. We attempted the replace the intake manifold temperature sensor, but have been sent the wrong sensor twice, and it does not fit correctly. Now we have a fan running so loudly it sounds like out engine is idling high when it is not. We also now have no heat at all in the vehicle. When I checked the recalls the dates for the 2023 (22S56) are within the recall years but our vin says it's not. Manufactured 9/2014 Recall is for 1/2014-6/2017 No heat in the winter and extreme uncontrollable heat in the summer

My 2015 Ford Expedition needs to added to the recall 22S56. I just paid $1,200 to have that part fixed cause it burnt up. Replaced the front blower motor assembly. My husband burnt his hand on the wire exposed under the dash then the mechanic said the blower motor has burnt up the components around it. The fan, motor, control, and wire assembly all was burnt up. Ford needs to be made to include my vehicle in their recall as that vehicle year, model, plant made in and date made all match.

Current recall reference# 22S56 front blower motor on some 2015–2017 Expedition SUVs and have issued a recall for affected vehicles. The front blower motor in certain vehicles may experience overheating and risk of interior fire. So my vehicle has gone thru 2 fixes for recall. But the issue caused by the blower motor was the actual risk of fire were the Wiring Harness. Which were burnt and original from the first repair that were already defaulted. So brand new motor and modular install but no new wiring harness that are already burnt. They just went ahead and plugged them back in with notice or even a heads up that you are still in danger of potential fire

Recall - There is a recall for 2015 Ford Expeditions for a coolant leak due to faulty water pump and or other related issues, recall was called in 2017. I just had my 2015 Ford Expedition in the shop for a coolant leak (same issue as recall) and paid $1800 plus $2300 to have it repaired. I had the dealership check my vin to see about the recall and they said my vehicle is not included. I was driving and going around 45mph when the wrench warning light came on and I lost the ability to accelerate. The car could only coast. I was able to coast to a parking lot. I turned off the car and restarted it. It seemed fine so I drove home. The same thing happened again a couple of days later. We checked the codes and it had a p2112 error code. We replaced the throttle body and it seems fine now. However this is the second time we have had to replace the throttle body. The same thing happened in 2018 with about 74000 miles on the car. We replaced the throttle body then also. From internet searches this seems to be a common problem. It is a big safety issue since the car loses the ability to accelerate unexpectedly. I was lucky I was able to coast out of the way each time without causing an accident.

I had parked the vehicle in grocery store lot. I had been shopping for 20-30 minutes when I was called to the service desk and was told to go to the parking lot. My car had rolled back across the parking lot aisle and had hit another vehicle. I verified that the car was in park. No one was in the vehicle at the time. It just slipped out of park and rolled. I called Ford Motor Company and they are not going to do anything about it, even though this is a documented problem they have had, just not on my particular year and model combination. They are the ones who suggested I file this report.

I was towing a trailer on a freeway when I suddenly got a "wrench" light stating my engine was cutting power due to heat and before I knew what to do there my vehicle was coasting, and so I quickly as I could changed lanes and came to a stop just a foot from the white line on the right. Cars and trucks are whizzing by me at highway speeds and was luckily off the road enough not to get hit. I had three other passengers at the time in my vehicle. what failed: after getting my passengers safely in other vehicles at the next rest stop, the trailer that I was towing was hooked up by another person on the same trip, I had my vehicle brought home on a flatbed. Fast forward to this week when it was finally diagnosed at a transmission shop. I was informed a transmission cooling line had ruptured, sending all the transmission oil out of the case and bringing me to an abrupt end on the freeway. Had I not been able to get over I would have come to a halt on the freeway, putting myself and my passengers as well as others behind me at risk. The transmission shop confirmed the issue. Since we were going at highway speeds when the transmission coolant line ruptures the oil gushes out and i have very little time before the transmission will not work. The only warning was from the engine as the transmission oil got pumped out, I'm assuming the engine revved to compensate, creating more heat, then the warning light which only happened seconds before I had no way to move. I was pretty scared, but I had other passengers in the vehicle, so I had to remain calm. At the time I had no idea what happened. I asked the transmission shop manager if that was a serviceable item (I'm pretty sure it's not) and he confirmed transmission coolant lines should last the life of the vehicle. My vehicle is only 8 years old--that is a catastrophic failure of a non-moving part leading to almost instant transmission failure. I asked if debris could have broken the line--he said no.

Called local dealership as soon as we received recall notice in September 2022. Because we were already having issues. They said probably March for the blower motors to come in that they were on back order. Here we are now in May and still nothing. I’ve called the dealership and they said that they were going to see where they could locate a blower and call me right back. They have not yet called back and I’ve called last week and today also called the Ford customer relationship center and all they could tell me was that they were gonna put it in the books and I should receive another notice that maybe April, May or June and that they would let me know my blower motor is not blowing any air. The wires are exposed. The plastic is melted. NOT SAFE AT ALL! Blower in front of Expedition worked intermittently - recall issued for Blower Motor to be replaced because it could "cause damage to surrounding components". Called on 2/20/23 to schedule recall work to be done. 2/22/23 We started to smell a burning smell right before recall was performed (Scheduled for 2/28/23) so called the dealer and asked if we needed to bring it right in or if it would be ok to wait til 2/28. We opted to wait but I was nervous to turn on the heat so tried not to use the car during the snow storms. If I smelled the burning I immediately turned off the heater because didn't want a fire to start(which also poses a safety risk as well as it was blizzards that week and it made it so the defroster wouldn't work). When they did the recall they only replaced the Blower Motor. They called at 2:47 on 2/28 to tell us the issue was resolved and when we picked up the automobile the blower still wasn't working. They took it back and determined the Blower Motor Resistor and Pigtail wires had melted but it wasn't covered under the recall even though the burning/melting wires and burning smell could result in a fire which puts my family at risk.

It seems as this comes in as a common issue with heated seats. The wiring harness Carrie’s only 1 ground wire to transmit connection to the heated seat module. This causes the wire to over heat after time and create a short and burn the wiring. Research has shown this issue has melted plastic harness to the module to where consumers have to pry the connector off the module. Consumers are rewiring the connector to include 2 grounds which allows the wiring to stay cool. This seems to be a high safety issue as when an electrical component shorts and causes connectors to burn and even melt can lead to fires. Melting plastic takes high heat and is a for sure sign of safety issue.

ODI #11503980ENGINE

The mechanic assessing my vehicle stated that the vehicle has a coolant leak which cause the vehicle to run hot and ruin the head gaskets and requiring a new engine to repair at a significantly high cost. I explained to him that a check engine light only came on a day before and he stated that he has seen this a common problem in Ford Truck (F150 and expedition engines) with the 3.5 L turbo. The coolant sensor doesn’t pick up the leak because the coolant evaporates before the sensor can detect and only has cooler air passing over it thus not notifying the driver of the vehicle. I have maintained this vehicle properly since purchased in 2018. The risk was the engine could’ve overheated potentially causing fire or harm at high speeds.

I started my vehicle and the brake warning light and alarm came on. I checked to see if the E-brake was disengaged, which it was not engaged. I pressed the brake pedal and it immediately went to the floor. I checked under the hood for leaks and found the brake fluid level as extremely low. There were no leaks present. I refilled the brake fluid reservoir and checked the brake pedal. The pedal held, but it would slowly press down to the floorboard again. As I researched this issue, it was apparent the same issue was present that caused me to crash and total a 2015 Ford Edge. The 2015 and above Ford Eco-Boost engines either has a faulty brake line, or the brake fluid disappears into the Master Cylinder. To say this issue is a huge safety issue is big understatement. To crash and total a 2015 Ford Edge because Ford does not have the necessary parts available is just dangerous. To have a different Ford vehicle with the same dangerous issue is negligent in an extremely dangerous form. This is a known issue with Ford and yet Ford does not feel the need to cover such dangerous matters before someone is seriously injured or killed. How can I proceed with a complaint against Ford for the brakes failing on my 2015 Ford Edge, and causing a crash that totaled my vehicle? And, for the brakes failing on my 2015 Ford Expedition? Somehow this has to be stopped before someone really gets injured.

The driver received second degree burns to his fingertips on his right hand while inspecting the vehicle. The fire was extinguished and the car was towed to Maxwell Ford in Austin, Texas for repair. Ford Motor Company was notified of the incident. The cause of the fire is believed to be related to the air conditioner blower motor, but the cause is still unknown. The car has received routine maintenance and servicing from Ford.

While driving through a busy intersection, the vehicle seemed as if it had shifted into neutral rendering the accelerator powerless. I was able to coast into a parking lot and noticed the wrench warning light being on. The engine was also shaking very noticeably. I turned off the engine and read up on the warning light to learn it indicated a powertrain failure. Called a mechanic who stated it could be the throttle body and/or throttle body actuator. It was suggested the engine should be turned off (already done) and restarted. I did as instructed and the engine began running smoothly again. Wrench warning light was no longer on. Without having control of the powertrain, this situation could have caused an accident as I had no ability to control the vehicle's power and could not navigate through the intersection in a safe manner. I feel like my safety and others was put at risk. I have taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who is also an Auto Mechanic Instructor at the local high school. I await his diagnostic result. There were no earlier symptoms or wrench warning light previous to this incident.

Dealer has diagnosed Throttle Body Failure which is well documented with these vehicles and known the the NHTSA even though there is no recall and no extended warranty for this particular vehicle (though there is for others). This a major safety issue as the vehicle looses all throttle response and puts its occupants at risk for a collision.

SHUT TRUCK OFF, RESTARTED AND RAN NORMALLY FOR 6-10 MILES THEN WOULD SHUT DOWN AGAIN. AFTER THE 3RD TIME A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DROVE TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. THEY ENDED UP CHANGING THE THROTTLE BODY ASSY DUE TO A FAILURE OF A INTERNAL COMPONENT.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STEEP GRADE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO JERK AND SHAKE, THE WRENCH SYMBOL POPPED UP AS WELL AS A WARNING SEE OWNERS MANUAL. AS I SAFELY GOT OFF THE ROAD I HAD WAITED FOR CARS TO PASS BY BEFORE I TRIED TO RE EMERGE ONTO THE ROAD AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE TO A FULL PRESS OF THE GAS PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO APPROX. 1 MILE HR. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAS ABOUT TO CALL A TOW TRUCK AND I DECIDED TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND IT LET ME DRIVE WITH NO ISSUES. AFTER MY INCIDENT I WENT HOME TO GOOGLE THE SYMPTOMS IT APPEARED TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD VEHICLES. HOW EVER UNDER THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM MY VEHICLE WAS NOT LISTED BUT YET HAS THE SAME ISSUES. I WOULD LIKE TO START AN INVESTIGATION IN THIS MATTER AS SAME OTHER CONSUMERS MIGHT NOT BE AS SKILLFULLY OF A DRIVER AS MYSELF AND POSSIBLY CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH OVER THIS ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH SUNROOF AND ALL WINDOWS CLOSED, HEARD A LOUD BANG OVERHEAD AS SUNROOF EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE OUT WITH A LARGE PORTION OF THE SUNROOF MISSING. NOT CLOSE TO OTHER VEHICLES AT THIS TIME AND NO EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE ON ROOFTOP TOP TO INDICATE ANY OBJECT AS THE CAUSE.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70 MPH), WENT TO PASS TRAFFIC, TRUCK DOWNSHIFTED, SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND TRUCK LOST ALL POWER. TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK IN 4TH GEAR AND ENGINE WOULD NOT REV ABOVE IDLE. PULLED OVER AND SHUT OFF TRUCK. RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. A FEW DAYS LATER SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME WAS ON A CITY STREET (20MPH) AND TRANS WAS STUCK IN 3RD GEAR.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2015 FORD EXPEDITION HOME FROM WORK, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL GAS POWER TO THE VEHICLE. MY STEERING STILL WORKED AND POWER WAS STILL ON BUT I HAD NO GAS. I PULLED OVER, TURNED MY ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED AND COULD GO AGAIN. IT TOOK 6 TIMES TO RESTART TO GET 2 MILES TO SAFE POINT. WHERE I THEN HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. TURNS OUT IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. WHICH IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR THE FORD ENGINE, THE NHTSA HAD ENOUGH COMPLAINTS THAT FORD ISSUED A MANDATORY EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 4 OTHER TYPE FORD VEHICLES BUT NOT THE EXPEDITION, WHICH HAS THE SAME TYPE OF ENGINE. I HAD TO PAY $560.00 TO HAVE THIS PART REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE WHEN IT'S A KNOWN FORD ISSUE. MY VEHICLE HAD 50,700 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURRENCE. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WILL LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND HAVE FORD EXPAND THEIR MAKE AND MODEL WARRANTY AS WELL AS REIMBURSE ME FOR MY EXPENSES FOR THIS REPLACEMENT.

VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREET. NO WARNING PRIOR TO LOSING POWER. HAD A "WRENCH" LIGHT APPEAR ON DASH. I HAD TO COAST TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, MERGING, OR TURNING IN FRONT OF APPROACHING VEHICLES, THERE IS A HIGH PROBABILITY THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. I ATTACHED A TESTER ON THE VEHICLE AND P2112 DEFECT CODE APPEARED INDICATING A STUCK THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL. THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES AND WAS JUST IN FOR A MAJOR MILESTONE VEHICLE INSPECTION.

1/28/17 DRIVING 65 MPH ON A FLORIDA HIGHWAY (NOT ON CRUISE CONTROL) THE THROTTLE/GAS PEDDLE SENSOR (THROTTLE BODY) SHUTS OFF THE GAS TO THE ENGINE AND THE CAR SLOWS TO A STOP. THIS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. WE MANAGE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AND THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS FOR ANOTHER 50 MILES WE DRIVE THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY FOR $500. I AM . OUT OF WARRANTY = OVER 36,000 MILES I TELL MY STORY TO 2 ST LOUIS FRIENDS, ALSO OWN FORDS (2006 EXPLORER, 2008 EDGE) AND THEY SAY THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE AND NECESSARY REPAIR. I JUST NOTIFIED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE 800-392-3673 AND THEY SAY THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE A RECALL OR ISSUE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HAS BEEN IGNORED BY FORD FOR YEARS. I ALSO OWNED A TOYOTA DURING THEIR SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO AND THIS SEEMS WORSE

OUR 2015 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 20,000 MILES IN CALIFORNIA HAS ALUMINUM BODY CORROSION ON THE FRONT HOOD AND REAR TAILGATE DOOR. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS "IRON CONTAMINATION" PROBLEM SINCE THE YEAR 2000 AND HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT, DOCUMENTED IN THREE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS 2004 TSB 04-25-1, 2006 TSB 06-25-15 AND 2016 TSB 16-0028. DEALERSHIPS ARE AWARE, BUT DO NOT DISCLOSE THE FACTORY DEFECT PRIOR TO SALE AND IS "NOT" COVERED UNDER THE CORROSION WARRANTY.

2015 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 20,000 MILES HAS GALVANIC CORROSION ON ALUMINUM HOOD AND ALUMINUM REAR HATCH DOOR AND ROOF WELD CRACKS. FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE THE YEAR 2000 NOTED IN TSB 16-0028. DEALERS ARE AWARE, BUT DO NOT DISCLOSE MANUFACTURING DEFECT PRIOR TO SALE, WHICH IS FRAUD. NOT PROPERLY SEPARATING THE OUTER ALUMINUM FROM THE STEEL INSIDE CAUSES EXTREME CORROSION. THIS LEADS TO HOOD AND DOOR LATCH METAL FAILING WITH HOODS OR DOORS OPENING DURING DRIVING CAUSING ACCIDENTS OR DEATH.

I WAS SITTING IN A WAL-MART PARKING LOT WITHOUT THE CAR RUNNING. THE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROX 35-40 DEGREES WITH LIGHT RAIN/SNOW. WHILE SITTING THERE I HEARD A REALLY LOUD POP. AFTER LOOKING OUTSIDE AND AROUND THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHAT WAS OVERHEAD (NOTHING), I NOTICED THAT THE MOONROOF HAD SHATTER AND MADE THE BACK PART OF THE GLASS BUBBLE UPWARD TOWARD THE SKY WITH A SMALL HOLE AND THE ENTIRE GLASS SHATTERED. OF COURSE I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME (APPROX 22 MILES) AND THEN TO THE DEALER (ANOTHER 25 MILES). AT THIS POINT MOST OF THE GLASS FELL INTO THE MOONROOF SLIDE COVER AND THUS DID NOT SHOW THE BUBBLE IN THE GLASS. FORD WILL NOT COVER STATING IT WAS BROKE BY FORCE. WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS (PURCHASED ON 8/22/15 - DAY BROKE 10/18/15) AND THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 3,700 MILES ON IT. ALL PICTURES TAKEN WERE DONE BY THE DEALER.

The blue line shows 163 total NHTSA complaints filed over 12 years, with the worst year being 2023 (30 complaints, including 1 crash report).

The amber reliability line averaged 27/100 across the vehicle's life — dropping as low as 10 in 2017 when complaint severity peaked.

The red dashed line marks recall issuance — the first recall came 10 years after owners began filing complaints, a lag that indicates the manufacturer was slow to formally acknowledge these problems.

Red dots on the amber line flag 6 years (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024) where complaints included crash events — these are the highest-severity incidents in the dataset.
