Recent Owner Complaints
Direct reports filed with NHTSA by Hyundai IONIQ 6 owners — 2023–2026 model years.
I was driving at 60mph. I heard a sudden pop that felt like it came from behind me / under the car. While I glanced to see if I ran over something (I did not), the car suddenly felt like it was about to stall. It was slowing down quickly and dramatically. My safety was in danger as I quickly dropped speeds in heavy traffic on a freeway without warning. I was able to maintain control, and I turned my hazards on. I noticed that I was maintaining speed around 35-40 mph (no matter how heavy I hit the accelerator), and I moved to the right lane and continued while wondering if my car would survive all the way home. Luckily I was only about 1 mile from my house at that point, so I proceeded at a low rate of speed and ultimately made it home. It was scary, sudden, and put me and others on the road in danger. A couple of warnings popped up saying "Electrical System issue" and something else that was related to electronics. The vehicle was towed to the dealership that night, and diagnostics and repairs began the following day. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer to be an ICCU failure that needs to be replaced. There were zero warnings prior to the failure--the car was working perfectly up until that moment. Anything is available for inspection, but as I mentioned it's being replaced as we speak so the broken / malfunctioning part wouldn't be there anymore if someone looked at it.
The windshield cracked from using the defroster to defrost the windshield. On a cold morning.
I was pulling into a parking spot and my vehicle suddenly lurch forward, and I had to slam on the brakes quickly, scraping the front of the curb. I checked there was no warning lights. I checked the floor mat, and this was not impeding the accelerator pedal I am certainly I did not accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
On March 19, 2026 my Hyundai Ioniq 6 broke. It was clearly the ICCU problem. The car went into turtle mode with a maximum speed of 22 miles an hour and told me to get to a safe area , stop the car and have it brought in. It was brought to my local Hyundai dealer and a few days later they confirmed it was the ICCU problem. This is a safety issue. Fortunately I was 1 mile from my house and did not get stranded. Hyundai has had four years to fix the problem and obviously they have not done so. The car was a 2023 with about 23,000 miles on it.
I WAS DRIVING AND MY ELECTRICAL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A YEAR. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ICCU LAST YEAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS FIXED AND WOULDNT HAVE A PROBLEM AGAIN. I HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS. THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN WITH THE ICCU HAPPENED ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND THEY STILL HAVE MY CAR. IN A ANOTHER GAS RENTAL CAR.
On April 10,2026 I heard a pop while driving and a check electrical system light came on, my vehicle lost power while driving. This appears to be a common problem with ioniq5 and 6 going back years. Also failure in their ICCU and 12 volt batteries.A veh. Losing power unexpectedly could lead to a collision, injury or worse.my Ioniq 6 was recently serviced and only has 14,794 miles.I respectfully urge the national highway traffic safety administration to: 1.continue and expand investigation into electrical system failures in the Hyundai ioniq 6 and 5. Also 2. Ensure that affected vehicles are properly repaired with permanent solutions or the company should have to buy back the unsafe defective vehicles. Also 3. Require clearer and more immediate warnings to drivers regarding the risk of sudden power loss. Drivers should not have to keep experiencing this safety risk, after all these years of it being reported.
I was parking my car a Hyundai Ioniq 6, in an easy parking space when I briefly removed my foot, which was lightly depressed on the gas pedal to hit the brake pedal, the car suddenly accelerated jumped the curb hit another car and hit a tree. The airbag did not deploy I am uninjured. The other car was parked, but was damaged. My car was damaged. It all happened in about two or three seconds and my foot was no longer on the gas pedal. Moreover, the automated systems for parking collision warning, and for automatic stopping did not work. This is what came up when I googled it. Reports suggest some Hyundai Ioniq models, including potential Ioniq 6 instances, may exhibit unexpected, brief acceleration following a software update meant to address a separate braking recall. This issue is often linked to the "N-shift" mode, where the car may accelerate for 2-3 seconds after the driver lifts their foot. I had that software update

"While traveling in fast-moving traffic, my 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 suffered a catastrophic electrical system failure and an immediate loss of motive power. The vehicle instantly entered a 'limp mode' and dropped to a maximum speed of 11 mph, creating a life-threatening hazard for myself and surrounding drivers. There were no warning lamps or symptoms prior to this sudden failure. The vehicle was towed to a certified Hyundai dealer (Ricart Hyundai), where a diagnostic scan confirmed a failure of the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) with error code DTC P1A9096. This failure is directly related to the known issues in Recall 257. The dealer has confirmed that the replacement ICCU is currently on indefinite backorder with no estimated time of arrival (ETA). The vehicle and failed component are currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request."
I was driving on the highway, 65mph when I had a sudden loss of power, check electrical system warning and a battery picture came on. I was reduced to approx 10mph suddenly in rush hour traffic, in the left lane, with no shoulder to pull over to. I was able, with the kindness of other drivers slowing down, able to move to the right lane, then to the shoulder. Called AAA for tow to dealership. 12v battery and ICCU damage.
The fuel door/charge door would not open. Conditions were such that I was safe and had sufficient range without charging, but were I farther from home this could have left me stranded. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer, other service center, manufacturer, police, or insurance representative, though a friend was not able to open it either/confirmed the issue was not "user error". There were no warnings. The incident occurred after rain in the prior evening, followed by below freezing temperatures. The fuel/plug door opened in the afternoon when temperatures were warmer.
Vehicle steering wheel was off-center and the vehicle wandered whenever the road changed camber or had rough sections. The vehicle was purchased used from Carvana,. I took it in for 4-wheel alignment and the tech reported that "All adjustment hardware at rear were pretty loose", and stated that it probably left the factory this way as he saw no evidence of prior adjustments. The left rear tire is badly worn on the outside and he recommended immediate replacement, which is awaiting warranty claim processing. Possible safety issues: Rear tire blowout, rear suspension alignment failure with loss of control.
